basketball story today, Bakers star Austin Reeves talk to the

moves this offseason, saying goodbye to Lebron James, Hello to
all his new teammates, all seventeen new players that everybot

those new moneies.

And now why is this a big deal? Well? Here
he was today talking about how excited he is about
the new pieces coming into the Lakers.

Yeah, I think they're good. I mean obviously, you know,
being with the guys that are leaving for you know,
a couple of years, and then you know, Bron for
you know, five years, you know you hate to see
you guys, let that go. But you know the pieces
that are coming in, very excited about and you know,
happy to get started kind of today and see where
it goes.

Okay, So now all right, well here's Austin Reeves talking
about this. Why is this a big deal? There is
no two on a team that has more pressure on
him this year than Austin Reeves with the Lakers. All Right,
the stars of this stll like Brunson, Wemby, Cade, Cunningham,
all the stars.

But there's no there's no there's no sidekick, there's no second,
there's no two on a team that has more pressure
than Austin Reeves. And now you are seeing that when
he talks, he makes headlines. Right, this is this is
the big basketball headline of the day. Austin Reeves speaking,
like last year at this time, Austin Reeves speaking, but
it's being played on national television, on radio, on TV

because Austin Reeves has been elevated by the Lakers into
the Scottie Pipen' roll to Luka, doncig and forget about
this team being built around Luca, which, of course you're
going to Luca is the big star, but there's big
stars across the league, right, Yeah, the the Nuggets are
built around Jokis, right, The Knicks are built around Brunson,
kind of all the teams. The Celtics are built around Tatum.

We've seen this.

But the Lakers built this team and they went out
and signed a lot of supplementary players because they thought
and they have the confidence that we're paying Austin Reeves.
He's the second best player on this team. This is
a huge risk that the Lakers are taking. Not that
I don't think he's up for usin the last Reeves
is the hell of a player, but he's got to
understand by just by days like today, when he says

something and it becomes headlines, you have taken that step
up in the hierarchy. Now now you're not just Hey,
I'm the third guy and I'm able to just hoop
and le Bron will bail us out and Luke will
bail me out. The Lakers were built, yes, around Luca,
but they built the team the way they did because
you are gonna be that second big star, not just
a nice player who makes money and hits some shots,

but you are that second best player and the Lakers'
fortunes will go as he goes. If he has a
terrific year, Lakers will be fantastic. They'll be like they
were during that run last year. But if he's not,
Lakers are gonna be a team that struggles to get
in the playing round. Like there is no second best players,
no two on a team with more pressure on him.
Where the season go either way than Austin Reeves. Yeah,
because that old undrafted highest earning non drafted player thing

that's gone. That's gone. That's a nice little footnote, and
it's something at the end of his career. It's like, ah,
you over two great At this point, the expectations are
great because it's tied to Lebron James. Right, That's the
the part of it is how much was real imagined
in terms of retention of Lebron James. That's always gonna
be there. They forced him out, said they didn't need

him back, and you got this massive deal. Now you
doing the old Pippin to Jordan things like Luca Doncis
ain't won a damn thing, so I he got to one.

He's also looking over. Hey, you guys gave weather Hold
a lot of money. You guys just gave him one
hundred and twelve million dollars.

The funny thing is is, uh, we mentioned a few
minutes ago he had We had a fun one liner
involving Francisco Lindor of the Mets and Tim Healy, who
is a Mets insider for a long time, put out
a big tweet tonight saying that you'll be surprised at
the players the Mets are willing to move and talk
to other teams about going towards a trade deadline, and
(08:49):
when you hear surprising, the top two names you're gonna hear,
obviously are Lindora and Juan Soda. Right, those are the
names you're going to hear. And there would be no
one bigger at the trade deadline than either of these players.
I'm gonna tell you because the Lindor thing is really surprising,
But the Mets have to look to trade him. I
(09:12):
hate to say it, but this is one of those
conversations where both things can be true. He'd be the
best player you could get to the deadline. Yes, he's
doing a lot of money, but yes he can be
a Mets legend for being the player he was the
run to the NLCS, the big home runs in twenty
twenty four, but also this year for whatever reason, maybe
him and Soto don't get along, Maybe he misses the
(09:33):
guys that got traded, although I doubt he misses some
of them. But for whatever reason, just watching he looks
like he is unplugged. He looked like he looks like
his head and heart aren't into it. He made an
incredibly bad error yesterday, a game ending double play ball
that he biffs and instead the Mets lose to the
Red Sox. Red Sox finished their trip nine to zero
first nine and oh roach it for the Red Sox
in like seventy years, whatever it was. For whatever reason,

Lindor just looks like he's not into it. And if
that's the case, it's time to move on. And and
I I it's it's hard to never thought I'd be
I said, he's gonna be a guy, He's gonna stay
till the end, mister smile, all the stuff he's done.
But this is where both things can be true. You
can't well, you gotta hold on to a guy. No,
you gotta get rid of him. You can love him
for what he's accomplished so far. You can love him

for that. And the rest of his contract isn't completely
it's not like it's it's it's it's a downar because
he's already gone through a lot of his contract with
the Mets. But both things can be true in that
just he's a different player this year. Again, he just
doesn't seem like he's he's been injured. He doesn't. Maybe
he's upset that Steve Cohen didn't name him the captain
when he said there's never gonna be a captain as
far as I'm running the team, which Steve Cohen sometimes.

Dude, you just have to be quiet. But really he's
I'm not gonna be surprised if his name is out
there as the biggest name at the trade deadline is
gonna be Francisco Lindor. Yeah, I mean, you look at it.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
The other big question is whether Detroit does something with
school wel But Lindor has the no trade con claus
in his contract and he was asked about it over
the weekend and just gave a terse no comment.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
So I mean, well, first, what do you expect him
to say? But also no.
Speaker 1 (11:09):
But but it also becomes the conversations that need to
be brought up over the course of a long period
of time.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
You don't want to say I want to stay, I
want to stay here. I love it here. I've been
here for a while, but it's my home.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
But that's just it, right, it is it in the moment,
it becomes the did you catch him when he's at
you know, in his fields about the series that just had.
I mean, you've got your gestation period, a little cooling off, whatever,
But the right recognition of this team's not going anywhere.
You did lose a number of your your key component parts,
(11:41):
the prospects that you thought were going to be or
the team thought we're going to be the guys to
break through have failed at every measure, right, And you
look around and going, all right, these are the best
years of my career in theory, and we're sputtering at best. Yeah,
I mean, and like every day is a conversation about missteps, mismanagement.

What can you do to augment the team? Yet, well,
you're not gonna be able to spackle this, oh no,
and create anything meaningful. And you're looking over at Philly
and we talked about it in the first hour, right,
You've always they made the move with their manager to
go get Don Mattingly, and it's worked. And part of
it you could just say, well, they had the horses
(12:27):
and it was just a matter of them getting out
and running. But for the Mets, you kept Mendoza a
lot longer than you should have. And now it's Stearn's
keeps getting votes of confidence, which nobody buys. No, No,
I mean, I really thought he's gonna get a chance
to do it again in the off season. But look,
(12:48):
the Mets are gonna be the team that sells the most,
because that's the one thing where at least the trade
deadline is working in their favor. Because all these other
teams you thought are gonna sell, You thought the Tigers
would sell at school, well, the Red Sox would sell. No,
they're all winning. Red Sox finished the first half on
a tear. The Mets have a great chance to say,
come get all our guys, right, come get it. We're
gonna start over again in the offseason. Come get all
(13:08):
our guys. And there's a lot of talent out there.
People go out and get Freddie Peralta. Maybe they'll say, hey,
we'll take a chance on making Bobashett happy. You know,
he seems like he's heating up the last month and
a half. Like of all the teams that you're looking like,
they're gonna go through the Mets roster like, hey, like
the guy in your fantasy league that's in last place, going, Hey,
I'm ready, I'm I'm trading my guys, give me some
(13:30):
draft picks for next year. Yeah, I'm gonna go through
that roster and see what I want. I'll dump some
guys off on you. Like that's what's gonna happen. At
least the Mets have lost the right way where now
they're one of the worst teams, but they have the
most to offer to other teams. But for the deadline,
only team worse than them in the National League you're
Colorado Rockies, who are just a game behind them. And yeah, hey,
(13:50):
we'll got that number one pick. We're gonna get arch Manning.
You just watch next year, We'll get arch Manning even
with all of the salary. And this is where we
get into the fun part of how you can grossly
mismanage and misappropriate not only your funds, but your draft
picks and your prospects failing you your two games above

the the Angels and the wind. Yeah, the Angel the
laughing stock.

The only thing they've got going for them is I
saw someone posted the Mets are a laughing stock too.

able to avoid what really should be a finger pointing session. Yeah,
And part of that is I think the fact that

forty two, they've been seen as grossly underachieving. Sure, let

Judge hasn't played in six weeks. But there's more heat
on them, yeah than the Mets. Like the Mets have
just been cast off. How does it feel that you're

you get the derision is us. Well, well, I say

You can only I can claim that for the rest
of my life. Man, the long I have to dine
out on this, are you kidding? Man? And I'm like,
this is like if if the world turned into the
zombie apocalypse and I'm like the strongest zombie, I'm gonna
dine out for a long time. Because we had the
conversation and the last hour talking about Austin Reeves. Like,
the only other number two that had that amount of
pressure on him was the guy you wanted to kill

off who started his trading card journey again today. Yea,
because you're got big Bodega. Yeah sure, but they won. Yeah,
so it doesn't matter. Like I said, like all the
fact that the people of New York to a man
wanted to trade him at the trade dead That's okay.

a big name out there at the depth. That'd be
a fun, fun, theoretical exercise. What does that bring bring
you in return?

You like to say, I like to say, we like
to say we're ahead of the curve. And it was
the very beginning of the World Cup and we said, okay,
one of two things is gonna happen. This World Cup
is such a huge success. They added teams this year

turned out great. Oh the way the event has been
run in the United States and Canada and Mexico. Said,
one of two things is gonna happen next World Cup's
can expand teams or eventually maybe after twenty thirty. It's
every three years, right, why would you have it every
four years. You're gonna have it every three years. It's
still a great tournament. You could still do that. One
of those things is happening. Well, FIFA Bass said yesterday

we're looking into a sixty four team World Cup again
ahead of the curve. Right, So, first of all, take
about United States, Canada, Mexico. This is not happening without
the overwhelming success this has been both in person for
people coming to the World Cup, for the fan experience,

for what they've been able to get on television, were
they able to watch it for free stream it what.
This has been a huge across the board's success, to
the point where Fox is even doing favors by putting
the semi final games on instead of for us here
in the United States.

Let's put them on in primetime so we can all
see them. No, no, no, to help the rest of
the globe.

We got the games on middle of the day, middle
of the week, like it's englais Premier League.

States in Canada and Mexico, we're not going to be
playing in these round Yeah.

we're doing that for them. Why should they do.

if our team was playing Let's say our team was
playing and if we were good in Germany or space.
You think they're doing that for us? Going, oh, because
the United States is planning, we'll move the tible bit

it here, blank U USA. We're doing it for that.
It's the assumption that we're not making those rounds. But
what I'm saying, just if it is, if it happened,

they're not doing that for us, and we're doing it
for them. So it's okay. But there's already been I've
already seen the backlash to it. Oh, sixty four teams,
it's watered down. It's not gonna be the same tournament. Sorry,
it's a again. It's every four years.

Making a miracle run through the World Cup to get
to the semi finals of the final. What do we
see The top four teams have gone there, and you
know what, if you get in and you win your
way past Spain and France and Belgium and England, yeah,
you know you deserve you deserve to be there, right,
I don't know, I feel like so many, so many
countries go, well, we have a bye basically into the
(19:23):
World Cup, so we want to be able to you know,
keep that sixty four teams is gonna be fine. It's
not the end of the World Cup. It's not that
we're not cheapening the tournament. You're gonna add teams to
come in. You're gonna make the knockout round a little
bit longer. It's good for the sport. This is how
sports evolve. I know that, and I know that in

the evolution of sports, the one that evolves the slow
as you thought, baseball evolved slowly. Man, baseball looks like
who boy college football compared to soccer the way they evolved.
College football change every five minutes, baseball does it. But man,
baseball looks like we're doing something every time you turn
your head, compared to soccer.

And for all the laughing at baseball, they were the
first to really embrace the streaming model. Yeah, and letting
you watch your team if you were out of market,
so you were able to watch your mets out here.
I was able to watch the White Sox when I

Look, the best teams will make it through. They always do. Yes,
you saw the fun stories like a Cape Verde their
fair fun story. They deserved everything they had in this tournament.
They nearly pulled, you know, a big upside off Spain,
they pulled the upset against Argentina like they were a
great story.

They helped. Right.

I'm sorry if you want to buy into the semifinals,
but I could just tell the way the way fans
general fans generally talked about the Tripleow, we're gonna have
to play this. We don't have this path of this
path like everybody wants to buy to get into the
semifinals and the finals of the World Cup. Ton of
sports work, right, And like I said, soccer revolves the
slowest out of all the other sports. You gotta get

every you gotta get all the nations on board to
do this. But adding Team sixty four, it's just gonna
be more fun. There will be more games, The tournament
will be a bigger deal. There's more money to be had,
more teams can make it, more teams can take part
in the World Cup. And again, you could you could
have put sixty four teams in this World Cup. We're
still coming out with these four teams we have right now,
we're still kind of you're talking about one more game

potentially for some of the teams. Okay, I don't think
that's I don't think that's suddenly cheapening the sport or
ruining the World Cup. You want to get to sixty
four teams, get sixty four teams. It will be fine.
People will love it, they will embrace it, they will
let it will be the same World Cup. Yeah, the
ruining the sanctity of the sport thing, you could lose
me with that, right because we had that argument when
(21:31):
batting and got reinstated, and you have the controversy and
scannedal lot of that. But look, if FIFA has been
embroiled in so many scandals, it's got you know, subplots
in the Wikipedia page. Don't forget to go to part
two on this other scandal, and then part three and
so on. The only team that kind of gotta buy
is you look at Argentina twenty eighth, twenty fourth, sixty third,
(21:52):
sixty seven to twenty ninths nineteenth. Those are the rankings
globally of their opponents throughout this tournament. But all of
that to say the amount of money that flows in
and we we've talked about it here for the US
and what it's meant the only the only people that
probably won't get to participate in the same level a

future tournament. Stub Hub, another class action lawsuit, and some
really bad things discovered in terms of ticket scalping, side
gigs and whatever for their executives. That's that's a whole
other mess that that was the one downside to this
tournament where the people that were having problems getting their

tickets ye seeing them taken back and resold like that,
that's a whole problem you need to figure out. But
all of it for these teams. I mean, you watched
how everybody embraced the United States, right from Holland on
Downey showed up with that beer drinking raccoon. Yeah you

And when I saw Chris Berman's name trendy because you know,
I always say, you know, ESPN could always just just
let him out of ESPN jail and let him do
the home run Derby. I mean, you know, let him

You could probably get a pretty good price for a
rental fee. Yeah, I want to rent Chris Berman's contract, Yeah,
or just loan him out to Netflix. Let let him
do it tonight, right, Let him do the home run
Derby right like Berman. And but the thing is like
to see full circle for Berman tonight was kind of
fun because look, the guy built ESPN. He was the

most popular star ESPN had for years. Then the advent
of social media. People have seen him do his act
for a long time. All the negativity, Ah, I kevi,
we gotta watch Berman do the nickname thing again.

It's so old.

I've seen this, you know, ESPN Oh, people say any
things on social media. We got to do something about this. Uh.
And now you know, Berman basically had been off the
air and not doing anything. Now they let him back
a little bit and he's doing a little bit of
prime Time with Booger McFarlane, which has gotten you know,
a lot of attention over the past couple of years,
which is great because Primetime was the gold standard for

football shows for a long time. But like you know, Berman,
for the for the last few years, since you know,
ESPN decided Okay, we're gonna we're not gonna have you
on a lot. Uh, has been really difficult seeing that,
Oh yeah, we don't like Burnie, we don't like Berman.
Then when I see him trending tonight, I'm like, oh,
this is gonna be a lot of people just are
gonna say, oh, so glad he's gone.

So LA's out there.

But by and large, the majority of the comments I'm
looking through, like, oh man, Netflix really makes me miss
Chris Berman. Not like Netflix did a horrible job. We
told you, we told you it was fine, everything was,
everything was gonnay got a great out come. But just
I really like the fact that now it's gone so
much for Berman, where he's gone from big Star and
then everybody all of a sudden, we're sick of him,

and now they haven't seen him in a long time.
So now, oh I really miss Chris Berman, right, I
want that nostalgia back again and to bring Berman back
to be doing home run Derby. And I kind of
like that a bit for him at least, because you know,
it's it's really sad to see someone like just like
an athlete, where you see an athlete who's so good
for so long that you watch him kind of play

at the end of their career and they're not the
same person they were. And this is nothing any more
than just ESPN deciding yeah, we're gonna put other people
on the air. So but I kind of like the
fact that Berman was good. You know, people wanted to
see him come back and do the home run derby
again because it.

Was his best thing, right. I mean even you know
him just midway through when he's describing home runs, he's
got no voice left and it's.

moves this offseason, saying goodbye to Lebron James, Hello to

those new moneies.

And now why is this a big deal? Well? Here
he was today talking about how excited he is about
the new pieces coming into the Lakers.

Yeah, I think they're good. I mean obviously, you know,
being with the guys that are leaving for you know,
a couple of years, and then you know, Bron for
you know, five years, you know you hate to see
you guys, let that go. But you know the pieces
that are coming in, very excited about and you know,
happy to get started kind of today and see where
it goes.

Okay, So now all right, well here's Austin Reeves talking
about this. Why is this a big deal? There is
no two on a team that has more pressure on
him this year than Austin Reeves with the Lakers. All Right,
the stars of this stll like Brunson, Wemby, Cade, Cunningham,
all the stars.

But there's no there's no there's no sidekick, there's no second,
there's no two on a team that has more pressure
than Austin Reeves. And now you are seeing that when
he talks, he makes headlines. Right, this is this is
the big basketball headline of the day. Austin Reeves speaking,
like last year at this time, Austin Reeves speaking, but
it's being played on national television, on radio, on TV
(03:20):
because Austin Reeves has been elevated by the Lakers into
the Scottie Pipen' roll to Luka, doncig and forget about
this team being built around Luca, which, of course you're
going to Luca is the big star, but there's big
stars across the league, right, Yeah, the the Nuggets are
built around Jokis, right, The Knicks are built around Brunson,
kind of all the teams. The Celtics are built around Tatum.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
We've seen this.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
But the Lakers built this team and they went out
and signed a lot of supplementary players because they thought
and they have the confidence that we're paying Austin Reeves.
He's the second best player on this team. This is
a huge risk that the Lakers are taking. Not that
I don't think he's up for usin the last Reeves
is the hell of a player, but he's got to
understand by just by days like today, when he says
(04:05):
something and it becomes headlines, you have taken that step
up in the hierarchy. Now now you're not just Hey,
I'm the third guy and I'm able to just hoop
and le Bron will bail us out and Luke will
bail me out. The Lakers were built, yes, around Luca,
but they built the team the way they did because
you are gonna be that second big star, not just
a nice player who makes money and hits some shots,
(04:27):
but you are that second best player and the Lakers'
fortunes will go as he goes. If he has a
terrific year, Lakers will be fantastic. They'll be like they
were during that run last year. But if he's not,
Lakers are gonna be a team that struggles to get
in the playing round. Like there is no second best players,
no two on a team with more pressure on him.
Where the season go either way than Austin Reeves. Yeah,
because that old undrafted highest earning non drafted player thing
(04:53):
that's gone. That's gone. That's a nice little footnote, and
it's something at the end of his career. It's like, ah,
you over two great At this point, the expectations are
great because it's tied to Lebron James. Right, That's the
the part of it is how much was real imagined
in terms of retention of Lebron James. That's always gonna
be there. They forced him out, said they didn't need
(05:16):
him back, and you got this massive deal. Now you
doing the old Pippin to Jordan things like Luca Doncis
ain't won a damn thing, so I he got to one.

Yeah, oh no, no he didn't.

And whether he'll ever be healthy enough and ready enough,
you know, because it's the ten weeks. I'm surprised you're
not walking around with that shirt. I just got my

I mean, as we broadcast from Los Angeles, plenty of

Laker fans here who were all excited that Lebron went away,
and we'll see what you asked for. You got two
guys at the head that don't play any defense. Walker
Kessler's great, but he can't fill up that much space. Yeah,
I mean really, he he is the co the co
star here there again. This Laker season, how It's gonna
go is more about him than anything else. I can't

He's also looking over. Hey, you guys gave weather Hold
a lot of money. You guys just gave him one
hundred and twelve million dollars.
Speaker 2 (08:25):

The funny thing is is, uh, we mentioned a few
minutes ago he had We had a fun one liner
involving Francisco Lindor of the Mets and Tim Healy, who
is a Mets insider for a long time, put out
a big tweet tonight saying that you'll be surprised at
the players the Mets are willing to move and talk
to other teams about going towards a trade deadline, and
(08:49):
when you hear surprising, the top two names you're gonna hear,
obviously are Lindora and Juan Soda. Right, those are the
names you're going to hear. And there would be no
one bigger at the trade deadline than either of these players.
I'm gonna tell you because the Lindor thing is really surprising,
But the Mets have to look to trade him. I
(09:12):
hate to say it, but this is one of those
conversations where both things can be true. He'd be the
best player you could get to the deadline. Yes, he's
doing a lot of money, but yes he can be
a Mets legend for being the player he was the
run to the NLCS, the big home runs in twenty
twenty four, but also this year for whatever reason, maybe
him and Soto don't get along, Maybe he misses the
(09:33):
guys that got traded, although I doubt he misses some
of them. But for whatever reason, just watching he looks
like he is unplugged. He looked like he looks like
his head and heart aren't into it. He made an
incredibly bad error yesterday, a game ending double play ball
that he biffs and instead the Mets lose to the
Red Sox. Red Sox finished their trip nine to zero
first nine and oh roach it for the Red Sox
in like seventy years, whatever it was. For whatever reason,
(09:57):
Lindor just looks like he's not into it. And if
that's the case, it's time to move on. And and
I I it's it's hard to never thought I'd be
I said, he's gonna be a guy, He's gonna stay
till the end, mister smile, all the stuff he's done.
But this is where both things can be true. You
can't well, you gotta hold on to a guy. No,
you gotta get rid of him. You can love him
for what he's accomplished so far. You can love him
(10:18):
for that. And the rest of his contract isn't completely
it's not like it's it's it's it's a downar because
he's already gone through a lot of his contract with
the Mets. But both things can be true in that
just he's a different player this year. Again, he just
doesn't seem like he's he's been injured. He doesn't. Maybe
he's upset that Steve Cohen didn't name him the captain
when he said there's never gonna be a captain as
far as I'm running the team, which Steve Cohen sometimes.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Dude, you just have to be quiet. But really he's
I'm not gonna be surprised if his name is out
there as the biggest name at the trade deadline is
gonna be Francisco Lindor. Yeah, I mean, you look at it.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
The other big question is whether Detroit does something with
school wel But Lindor has the no trade con claus
in his contract and he was asked about it over
the weekend and just gave a terse no comment.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
So I mean, well, first, what do you expect him
to say? But also no.
Speaker 1 (11:09):
But but it also becomes the conversations that need to
be brought up over the course of a long period
of time.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
You don't want to say I want to stay, I
want to stay here. I love it here. I've been
here for a while, but it's my home.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
But that's just it, right, it is it in the moment,
it becomes the did you catch him when he's at
you know, in his fields about the series that just had.
I mean, you've got your gestation period, a little cooling off, whatever,
But the right recognition of this team's not going anywhere.
You did lose a number of your your key component parts,
(11:41):
the prospects that you thought were going to be or
the team thought we're going to be the guys to
break through have failed at every measure, right, And you
look around and going, all right, these are the best
years of my career in theory, and we're sputtering at best. Yeah,
I mean, and like every day is a conversation about missteps, mismanagement.
(12:05):
What can you do to augment the team? Yet, well,
you're not gonna be able to spackle this, oh no,
and create anything meaningful. And you're looking over at Philly
and we talked about it in the first hour, right,
You've always they made the move with their manager to
go get Don Mattingly, and it's worked. And part of
it you could just say, well, they had the horses
(12:27):
and it was just a matter of them getting out
and running. But for the Mets, you kept Mendoza a
lot longer than you should have. And now it's Stearn's
keeps getting votes of confidence, which nobody buys. No, No,
I mean, I really thought he's gonna get a chance
to do it again in the off season. But look,
(12:48):
the Mets are gonna be the team that sells the most,
because that's the one thing where at least the trade
deadline is working in their favor. Because all these other
teams you thought are gonna sell, You thought the Tigers
would sell at school, well, the Red Sox would sell. No,
they're all winning. Red Sox finished the first half on
a tear. The Mets have a great chance to say,
come get all our guys, right, come get it. We're
gonna start over again in the offseason. Come get all
(13:08):
our guys. And there's a lot of talent out there.
People go out and get Freddie Peralta. Maybe they'll say, hey,
we'll take a chance on making Bobashett happy. You know,
he seems like he's heating up the last month and
a half. Like of all the teams that you're looking like,
they're gonna go through the Mets roster like, hey, like
the guy in your fantasy league that's in last place, going, Hey,
I'm ready, I'm I'm trading my guys, give me some
(13:30):
draft picks for next year. Yeah, I'm gonna go through
that roster and see what I want. I'll dump some
guys off on you. Like that's what's gonna happen. At
least the Mets have lost the right way where now
they're one of the worst teams, but they have the
most to offer to other teams. But for the deadline,
only team worse than them in the National League you're
Colorado Rockies, who are just a game behind them. And yeah, hey,
(13:50):
we'll got that number one pick. We're gonna get arch Manning.
You just watch next year, We'll get arch Manning even
with all of the salary. And this is where we
get into the fun part of how you can grossly
mismanage and misappropriate not only your funds, but your draft
picks and your prospects failing you your two games above
(14:11):
the the Angels and the wind. Yeah, the Angel the
laughing stock.

Yeah.

The only thing they've got going for them is I
saw someone posted the Mets are a laughing stock too.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
I mean, don't no, no, no, don't sugarcoat that, like, oh, you're.

With the laughing stocks. No, you're with the laughing stocks
because you're a laughing stock. It's like, okay, laughing stocks
over here, Mets, Angels, Rockies, let's go over here.

Over here, Royals over here, over here.

Yeah, but to a large degree, the Mets have been
able to avoid what really should be a finger pointing session. Yeah,
And part of that is I think the fact that
though the Yankees are sitting there at fifty four and
forty two, they've been seen as grossly underachieving. Sure, let
that sink in for a second, but uge. Yeah, and

Judge hasn't played in six weeks. But there's more heat

one of two things is gonna happen next World Cup's
can expand teams or eventually maybe after twenty thirty. It's
every three years, right, why would you have it every
four years. You're gonna have it every three years. It's
still a great tournament. You could still do that. One
of those things is happening. Well, FIFA Bass said yesterday

we're looking into a sixty four team World Cup again
ahead of the curve. Right, So, first of all, take
about United States, Canada, Mexico. This is not happening without
the overwhelming success this has been both in person for
people coming to the World Cup, for the fan experience,

for what they've been able to get on television, were
they able to watch it for free stream it what.
This has been a huge across the board's success, to
the point where Fox is even doing favors by putting
the semi final games on instead of for us here
in the United States.

Let's put them on in primetime so we can all
see them. No, no, no, to help the rest of
the globe.

We got the games on middle of the day, middle
of the week, like it's englais Premier League.

States in Canada and Mexico, we're not going to be
playing in these round Yeah.

if our team was playing Let's say our team was

the United States is planning, we'll move the tible bit

it here, blank U USA. We're doing it for that.
It's the assumption that we're not making those rounds. But
what I'm saying, just if it is, if it happened,

they're not doing that for us, and we're doing it
for them. So it's okay. But there's already been I've
already seen the backlash to it. Oh, sixty four teams,
it's watered down. It's not gonna be the same tournament. Sorry,
it's a again. It's every four years.

Making a miracle run through the World Cup to get
to the semi finals of the final. What do we
see The top four teams have gone there, and you
know what, if you get in and you win your
way past Spain and France and Belgium and England, yeah,
you know you deserve you deserve to be there, right,
I don't know, I feel like so many, so many
countries go, well, we have a bye basically into the

World Cup, so we want to be able to you know,
keep that sixty four teams is gonna be fine. It's
not the end of the World Cup. It's not that
we're not cheapening the tournament. You're gonna add teams to
come in. You're gonna make the knockout round a little
bit longer. It's good for the sport. This is how
sports evolve. I know that, and I know that in

the evolution of sports, the one that evolves the slow
as you thought, baseball evolved slowly. Man, baseball looks like
who boy college football compared to soccer the way they evolved.
College football change every five minutes, baseball does it. But man,
baseball looks like we're doing something every time you turn
your head, compared to soccer.

And for all the laughing at baseball, they were the
first to really embrace the streaming model. Yeah, and letting
you watch your team if you were out of market,
so you were able to watch your mets out here.

Look, the best teams will make it through. They always do. Yes,
you saw the fun stories like a Cape Verde their
fair fun story. They deserved everything they had in this tournament.
They nearly pulled, you know, a big upside off Spain,
they pulled the upset against Argentina like they were a
great story.

They helped. Right.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
I'm sorry if you want to buy into the semifinals,
but I could just tell the way the way fans
general fans generally talked about the Tripleow, we're gonna have
to play this. We don't have this path of this
path like everybody wants to buy to get into the
semifinals and the finals of the World Cup. Ton of
sports work, right, And like I said, soccer revolves the
slowest out of all the other sports. You gotta get

every you gotta get all the nations on board to
do this. But adding Team sixty four, it's just gonna
be more fun. There will be more games, The tournament
will be a bigger deal. There's more money to be had,
more teams can make it, more teams can take part
in the World Cup. And again, you could you could
have put sixty four teams in this World Cup. We're
still coming out with these four teams we have right now,
we're still kind of you're talking about one more game
(21:11):
potentially for some of the teams. Okay, I don't think
that's I don't think that's suddenly cheapening the sport or
ruining the World Cup. You want to get to sixty
four teams, get sixty four teams. It will be fine.
People will love it, they will embrace it, they will
let it will be the same World Cup. Yeah, the
ruining the sanctity of the sport thing, you could lose
me with that, right because we had that argument when
(21:31):
batting and got reinstated, and you have the controversy and
scannedal lot of that. But look, if FIFA has been
embroiled in so many scandals, it's got you know, subplots
in the Wikipedia page. Don't forget to go to part
two on this other scandal, and then part three and
so on. The only team that kind of gotta buy
is you look at Argentina twenty eighth, twenty fourth, sixty third,

sixty seven to twenty ninths nineteenth. Those are the rankings
globally of their opponents throughout this tournament. But all of
that to say the amount of money that flows in
and we we've talked about it here for the US
and what it's meant the only the only people that
probably won't get to participate in the same level a

future tournament. Stub Hub, another class action lawsuit, and some
really bad things discovered in terms of ticket scalping, side
gigs and whatever for their executives. That's that's a whole
other mess that that was the one downside to this
tournament where the people that were having problems getting their

tickets ye seeing them taken back and resold like that,
that's a whole problem you need to figure out. But
all of it for these teams. I mean, you watched
how everybody embraced the United States, right from Holland on
Downey showed up with that beer drinking raccoon. Yeah you
bought at that place like Cardians of the Galaxy. No exactly.
Watch I get that arm, but I think, don't impress this.

But I just think there's so much opportunity, and you
see the exposure for the players and what it's meant
to their personal brands as they go back to their
respective clubs and I think more games everybody just wins,
just at every turn.

You could probably get a pretty good price for a
rental fee. Yeah, I want to rent Chris Berman's contract, Yeah,
or just loan him out to Netflix. Let let him
do it tonight, right, Let him do the home run
Derby right like Berman. And but the thing is like
to see full circle for Berman tonight was kind of
fun because look, the guy built ESPN. He was the

most popular star ESPN had for years. Then the advent
of social media. People have seen him do his act
for a long time. All the negativity, Ah, I kevi,
we gotta watch Berman do the nickname thing again.

It's so old.

I've seen this, you know, ESPN Oh, people say any
things on social media. We got to do something about this. Uh.
And now you know, Berman basically had been off the
air and not doing anything. Now they let him back
a little bit and he's doing a little bit of
prime Time with Booger McFarlane, which has gotten you know,
a lot of attention over the past couple of years,
which is great because Primetime was the gold standard for

football shows for a long time. But like you know, Berman,
for the for the last few years, since you know,
ESPN decided Okay, we're gonna we're not gonna have you
on a lot. Uh, has been really difficult seeing that,
Oh yeah, we don't like Burnie, we don't like Berman.
Then when I see him trending tonight, I'm like, oh,
this is gonna be a lot of people just are
gonna say, oh, so glad he's gone.

So LA's out there.

But by and large, the majority of the comments I'm
looking through, like, oh man, Netflix really makes me miss
Chris Berman. Not like Netflix did a horrible job. We
told you, we told you it was fine, everything was,
everything was gonnay got a great out come. But just
I really like the fact that now it's gone so
much for Berman, where he's gone from big Star and
then everybody all of a sudden, we're sick of him,

and now they haven't seen him in a long time.
So now, oh I really miss Chris Berman, right, I
want that nostalgia back again and to bring Berman back
to be doing home run Derby. And I kind of
like that a bit for him at least, because you know,
it's it's really sad to see someone like just like
an athlete, where you see an athlete who's so good
for so long that you watch him kind of play

at the end of their career and they're not the
same person they were. And this is nothing any more
than just ESPN deciding yeah, we're gonna put other people
on the air. So but I kind of like the
fact that Berman was good. You know, people wanted to
see him come back and do the home run derby
again because it.

Was his best thing, right. I mean even you know
him just midway through when he's describing home runs, he's
got no voice left and it's.
