(00:54):
is yours. So the second half Major League Baseball season
kicks off tonight. Oh yeah, it probably the best day
the Mets have had all year. They had the news
cycle to themselves. They beat the Phillies. Look at this
all of a sudden, horrendous first half, and look at

(01:15):
the Mets.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Well there are a million stories coming out of Fanatics
Fest in the Greater New York area, people opening cards
and people questioning about loaded boxes for influencers and celebrities.
So it distracted. Oh and that other guy, that free
agent guy. Yeah, a lot swirling. So the Mets get
to work in relative anonymity. But I gotta ask you,

(01:36):
this is this the jumping off point for one of
the greatest rebounds in baseball?

Speaker 1 (01:40):
No, no, no, no, this is seat before the game started tonight, right,
this first game of the second half the Major League
baseball season, the only game tonight now moved up an
hour because of air quality. Yes, yeah, the fires in
Canada getting down into the United.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Chicago Fire game tonight, A lot, a lot of activities
postponed ports out of New York that the Mets are
ready to sell.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
And everybody except for benj and Ewing, Sodo obviously, McLain
and Christian Scott.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
Yeah, five guys.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Everybody's availed. And that means Francisco Lindora is on that list.
Everybody else what tonight was like? I think the Mets
did this on purpose, because this is like when you
get a flyer in the mail, and because you're a
subscriber or you belong here. Hey, here's a sneak preview
of the big sale we have just for for subscribers
only coming up in a month, and you get to

(02:34):
see all the pill Like I could get that waffle iron.
Oh I could get that. I get that set of
golf Club, so I can get that outdoor set.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
Right.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Because you're a subscriber or you're a member, Hey, here's
a sneak preview at the sale that we're gonna have
this or liquidation sale.

Speaker 3 (02:47):
Like that's it was tonight, Like the story breaks, guys
spinning a sign out in front of the store. The
Mets are listening on everybody, and so what do we
get tonight? The only game involving the Mets. Everybody who
is starved for Major League Baseball game of some kind
because you haven't had one in a few days. Right, Hey,
everybody gets to watch the Mets night and teams go, oh,
i'd like that guy. Oh I'd like that guy. That

(03:08):
guy's pretty good. Oh I forgot about that guy. Oh
let's get that guy. They're gonna talk about that. Oh
I like that guy. Like that guy. That's what it's like.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
It's like all the baseball teams, all their fans. Oh,
I'm getting this preview of all these players that could
be out, that could go get Brett Bady guy at
a big hit tonight. I'm sure the Mets want to
get rid of it. Yeah, everybody's available.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
Tonight was the big the first of the big selloff
days for the Mets. Hey, come on in, We're gonna
give you the big, big discounts because.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
They're really the only team to think about the trade deadline,
where like just a couple of weeks ago, we thought, wow,
there's a lot of big market teams are gonna be selling,
like the Mets are gonna sell, the Red Sox are
gonna sell, the Tigers are gonna sell. School's gonna get dealt.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
And what happened? These teams that we thought were going
to sell all got back in a Red Sox had
a big nine game win streak on the road to close.
The Tigers have been really good the last few weeks
fourteen since June first.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
So the Mets are the only team with these big marks,
with these big salary guys either headed to free agency
or guys I want to start over again. So they're
the only team they're your big sellers, like everybody's going
to be shopping in the mets aisle of their grocery
store at the desk.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
And if you're Sternsey, the leakage of the five guys
list is strategic, not only to say hey, you know
everybody's here. It's like an old Hollywood audition before a pandemic,
wherever you get to actually watch it on a field.
But leaving Lindor's name off of that list, you're hoping

(04:32):
he creates some chaos behind the seats because he didn't
do it on the field. Ozho for four did not
audition well tonight, oh for four down to two ten
on the season. You're also hoping that the rest of
those squads and a few others that are in that eh,
I don't know kind of phase, I have some really
fantastic weeks coming out, because then they'll be buyers instead

(04:57):
of joining you in the sellers aisle.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Now, Lindor and that's the big sexy name right the
three hundred million dollar contract, he's halfway through it.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
After this year. It's a three hundred million dollar contract.
There's only sexy to him. One hundred and.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
Eighty millions is what's owed to him for the next
five or six years, right, and his is the big name.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
It's stunning, Lant Lindor is out there.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
This guy was such a big deal and I'll be honest,
all the other guys, look, it's gonna be very difficult
to trade this contract at the deadline. I don't think
it's impossible for them to trade him in the off season,
but at the deadline, it's really tough. There's a lot
of money. Are the Mets really going to eat all
that money?

Speaker 3 (05:34):
But this decision at the end of the year as
to what future money is Now, we know the contracts
will be grandfathered, but if you're starting in a new
world order after a new CBA workstop, it's whatever, is
that a contract that you want on your books going? Yes,
we're convinced we'll be able to restart our squad with
this guy as a foundational piece.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Yeah, it's gonna be really hard and and and I
think they know this, and I think this story is
out there for a reason. And just you know, tell listen,
when he wanted something about the Mets, ask me, Lindor
is a different guy this year. Last year was terrific.
Twenty twenty four he was unbelievable. But both things can
be true. He can be an incredibly great player for

(06:15):
the Mets who has done so many things, just as
recently as a couple years ago. Even last year was
a great year, and this year he just doesn't seem
like he's into it right. His head, in his heart
don't seem like it's into it.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
He was hurt.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
He just seems like he's kind of going through the motions.
He's terrible defensively. I wonder, and I'm thinking this is
his name was not put there as the untouchable to
try to get him going. They want to see, Okay,
we're halfway through this deal. Let's say, are you gonna
pick it up in the second half or are you
gonna stay this guy? If you stay this guy that

(06:47):
seems like he's a little detached from the Mets, that
we're gonna do everything we can and we're gonna trade
you in the offseason, Steve Cohens, it's my money.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
I don't care.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
He'll eat money to move on from Lindor if he
doesn't think Lindor is going to age well. I don't
know that he ages well. I think, honestly, he's got
to move to second base because he doesn't have the
range at shortstop anymore, and you want to do that
sooner rather than later. But I think more so than
saying he's available, is that this is it, like this
is we want to see the guy you are you committed?
Are you going to be the same guy you were

(07:14):
up until last year, because for whatever reason, you're not
the same dude anymore.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
You're not.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Whether it was Sodo coming in, the other players getting traded, whatever,
for whatever reason, he's a different guy than he was
a year ago, and the Mets want to see something different.
If not, yeah, they'll trade him in the offseason.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
You look at the last three years thirty one, ninety eight,
thirty three, ninety one, thirty one, eighty six, high of
two seventy three batting average, which is right in line
with his career totals twelve years in the league, but
just absolutely scuffling this year. And it goes back to
a lot of the questions, like we're asking about the
English team as they get ready to fight for the

(07:54):
third place crown in this year's FEFA World Cup, how
much starts coming out in the wash as to what
was going on behind the scenes, Right, We talked about
how fractured it all looked, and the waiting game before
you fired your manager, What was that play, what was
in the background and swirling that led to that, because

(08:16):
let's face it, as a squad, you don't have a
lot of standouts. I mean, even the five guys that
get held up is untradeable. They've had their moments, right McLain.
There are times where he looks great. There are times
like he looks like he could use some more seasoning, right,
and it goes back and that pendulum swings. But for Lindora,

(08:36):
it's at that contracts just so prohibitive as you look
at it, particularly if he's no longer a shortstop, right,
if that's got to be one of the considerations. And
like everybody has stuff that swirls in the background, there's
plenty of guys you and I have been in this
game long enough you can point to the outlier season
where someone had a really bad year, and you can

(08:58):
usually find a root cause, oftentimes not in the clubhouse,
not having anything to do with baseball, personal problems, financial problems,
family illnesses, whatever else that come into it. But right
now you've got a guy that he's a distressed property,
except he comes with the bloated sign.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
So get ready. This kicks off the trade season. Everybody,
get ready your first looking at you guys. You want
Bishett Peralta, your left handed reliever. We got a couple
of those guys. Whenever you want man, you want underachieving
guys who are big quad A players like Baby and Venta.

Speaker 3 (09:35):
Oh, we got quad at you. Gotta wait for him
to come. You got anything you want? Did you spin
the sign like the guy out in front of the
rental place.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
We we have something for every team. We have big
we have big front line starting pitchers, we have high
profile veterans, we have younger played got you got it
for you Now it's the best car lot on.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
Time.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
Now for the play of the day. The Play the Day,
of course, is brought to you by tire raqantirack dot Com.

good of a call. It's going to be the play

(10:23):
of the day again. And also something really fun we're
gonna do tonight. Let's go back to less than twenty
four hours ago, when Telemundo legend andres Canter gave us
the call of calls as Argentina booked its place in
the World Cup final.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
Messy, can gon tell you you don't call it?

Speaker 3 (11:06):
Get the dancer, go.

Speaker 5 (11:24):
Go.

Speaker 4 (11:26):
I'm starting to contineo.

Speaker 6 (11:29):
Foscy tends the other nail to it?

Speaker 7 (11:38):
Do?

Speaker 1 (11:40):
I think he said he drank milk there at the
end he was Homelander, I need some milk. So soon
we talked, well, Homelander was his own worst enemy. He
did he did it to this is true?

Speaker 4 (11:52):
Whoa well?

Speaker 3 (11:55):
Yeah Homeland man.

Speaker 7 (11:56):
I didn't say good run.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
Yeah he had a run. Yeah, I didn't say was
a good run for well, but I mean it's it vacillates. Yeah,
but uh, last night we got to talking about this
and Andres Canter. Look, the guy just gets more and
more famous every World Cup of his goal call. He's
been doing it now for like twenty twenty five years.
And his call there that that we've known about him,

(12:19):
he's been in there in the public conscious for the
last twenty twenty five years. His goal call there forty seconds, yeah,
from the first goal to the end of the l
of the last goal. All right, So we talked about out. No, no,
I was a villain. Now you let him go. You
got like I got to let him go?

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Man, nah, fade out. Just they know it's a goal.

Speaker 3 (12:39):
Just describe it. What happened, he said, it describe he
set goal for twenty five seconds. But it's my thing
to say goal. I don't care set goal. They know
it's a goal. Just talk about it.

Speaker 7 (12:49):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (12:50):
We we got him in this last night, and I
wondered if I could eat a hot dog from beginning
to end, from the beag from when he starts first
goal until the last l in his call, I said,
I would be questioning whether you can get to two
just to well, see here's the thing though, now we
well we could, well, let's like baby steps baby Okay,

(13:12):
So we said, let's say just a regular hot dog,
regular hot dog, hot dog, bun mustard, like that's it.
Could I eat one hot dog in the span of
time it takes andres Cantor to make that call. Mike's
in my mouth Mike Harmon stopped to get a hot
dog on the way and tonight, so in forty five

(13:32):
minutes we are going to do the Great andres Canter
hot Dog Challenge forty seconds seconds. We're gonna play the
call and I'm gonna start eating right when the when
the goal comes.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
And you don't have to stare straight into that camera right.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
And now do I When I finished you, I have
to say done like that means I'm done, like if
I finished done, and that's the official met being done
rather than just saying, oh no, I finished.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
You do that? You slap a table A slap slap
slap a table? How WI if I slap you just slap?
You just do that? Just slap it open? I finished?
Whatever happened to those competitions where they were supposed to
be growing. I mean I heard a commercial today for
for for Bigfoot. Okay is evidently a monster truck thing going. Oh,

(14:15):
I thought you meant like that They found big Okay? Alright?

Speaker 1 (14:18):
Their commercial for Bigfoot coming up at Fanatics Fest. We're
interviewing Bigfoot. Friday suddenly just rolled up in there. Bigfoot.
Oh my god, you're real. He's at the top, smooth
and he says, Lebron is going to the heat.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
Bigfoot.

Speaker 4 (14:35):
What are you doing?

Speaker 3 (14:35):
Man, You're ruined it if you got the guts.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
So I got a fig and I'll be honest. I
think it's gonna be close.

Speaker 5 (14:42):
Now.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
I don't know if there's any action on this on Calshi,
but I think it's gonna be close. Would you probably
get a market opened. I'm not gonna do the dip
the bun in water and do it. I'm just gonna
can I eat a hot dog in for regular size
in forty seconds? I really think it's gonna be close. Yeah, Yeah,
I think I think it's gonna be close unless you're
milking it. Yeah, and and and and bream Euro who's

(15:04):
in doing updates? And I said, what did you do
to plan for this? And I said, what do you
mean to how did you prepare? You said I didn't
really eat dinner. I said, you're gonna get hot dogs?

Speaker 4 (15:13):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (15:13):
I said, I'd eat a hot dog. I'm drinking a zero. Shit,
you will buy me a coke zero. You will get
me at cokesaid, I'm drinking a coke zero before.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
I mean, I just didn't really eat dinner. Okay, So
I feel like that way.

Speaker 3 (15:24):
If I just miss I could say, oh, let's try
it again, and I, well, there's a second hot dog?
Is there something there's actually you gotta you had a
backup hot dog? We have three hot dogs? Okay? Okay?
And then I selfishly wanted a chicken bake. Chicken, I
can't do a whole chi dog, especially because they're bigger
if you get them at the food court than what
you get in the box.

Speaker 1 (15:45):
Yes, Costco chicken bakes are monstrous. Man, It's like remember
the old commerce. This one seems like the little shrink
flations hit here too. Don't tell anybody, but but it's
still three ninety nine. Yeah, no, exactly is a Costco?

Speaker 8 (15:57):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (15:57):
God, I just love you go eat like a cat.
You know, Costco the one place not been really racked
by inflation.

Speaker 3 (16:03):
Well, you could still get a dessert like drink, You
get a hot dog, anisoda for a dollar fifty buck
fifty right, so you get that.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
You could get chicken bake is two ninety nine, or
you could. I mean Costco is like age eat there
every day, man, I mean that's a pretty cool place.

Speaker 3 (16:17):
How do you how do you get your steps in
if you really want the warehouse?

Speaker 1 (16:20):
It's one of those things. How do you do such
and such a city on eighteen dollars a day? Well,
you make sure you go eat at Costco and that's
gonna be one of your meals. And then you eat
at Costco again. That's another dollar fifty and you're done.
Your meal for the day is two cokes and two
hot dogs?

Speaker 3 (16:33):
Can you get a discount if you don't need the
cup for the aisda the second time? Like if you
were to say, go to a local established that you've
already eaten. You want to rob Parker your way and
then get Yeah, I think you get. I think you cat?
I mean, will they sell me the hot dog for
a buck?

Speaker 1 (16:49):

Speaker 3 (18:42):
I can tell you this will already be described by
Joe Buck as a disgusting act. What a disgusting act.
So here we are.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
Yeah, we are now moments away, moments from the Andres
Cantor goal hot Dog Challenge. What is the hot dog challenge?
Forty seconds to So we got into this conversation yesterday
after the play of the day was Andres Cantor's goal
call of Argentina's second goal, the game winner against him
when it puts him in the final of the World Cup.

(19:10):
And Andres Cantor has been doing this for a long time, uh,
you know, like he rose to fame in the mid
nineties with his famous goal calls, and his best one
of the tournament was yesterday, so we started to decide, like, wow,
that's a long His goal call was long, from the
beginning of his first goal to the last L. Beginning
of his first GM goal to his last L. It's

(19:32):
a long time. At least I wonder if I could
like eat a hot dog from the beginning of his
I start when he starts his goal call and I
finished before he ends.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
Yeah, I mean, I wanted to do a Guinness or
a tall Boy, but since we're on national radio, that's
probably not the best idea now too.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
Yeah, no, I think I think that's also legally, I
don't think that's yeah. No, yeah, I don't think we
can do that. I think that it's also a family show,
you know, wh I mean, you gotta keep it nice
for the people. So to give you before we do this,
to give you a to give you a bas of understanding.
Here's the andres Canter goal call from yesterday again, from
the beginning the first G and gold to his last L.

(20:10):
Can I eat an entire hot dog in that time?
Here it is just so you can listen here, what
it's gonna.

Speaker 4 (20:16):
Be MESSI can gonna tell you if you don't for
no at it job.

Speaker 6 (20:27):
God, I'm starting to all right.

Speaker 1 (21:05):
So from the G his first G to the last L,
which is about forty seconds.

Speaker 3 (21:12):
Yeah, you can hear his soul leaving his body at
the end there. Now I'm envisioning this hot dog that's
sitting in front of me right now, Hot Costco hot
is a band. Yeah Costco hot Dogs at long. Yeah,
it is a little bigger than I thought. But okay,
I mean you gotta be able to see it outside
the bun right, he's got a you know, it's that
forced perspective.

Speaker 1 (21:31):
Let me help ty shirt out. Boy, it's a little
bigger than I thought it would be. Is that clean
enough for you to grab?

Speaker 3 (21:36):
All right? Very good? How you got? Okay? Very good.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
So when I'm listening to this and I'm envisioning, like
I'm doing the power of positive thinking and envisioning myself
doing that. Yeah, that's what you've been doing in the beginning,
I said, well, I don't know, man, I don't know.
But then through it, I'm like, oh maybe maybe I
think it's I feel good, but I think it's going
to be close.

Speaker 3 (21:57):
An empty is stomach I think it's gonna be close.
You had lunch, Tysier doesn't think he's taking the under
my My preparation for this was just to not really
eat dinner. Not gonna work. Yeah, that's my preparation was,
not gonna eat dinner.

Speaker 1 (22:11):
I'm only eating one. I'm not like I got no,
I'm not throwing up.

Speaker 3 (22:15):
I know you you know, no, you don't do good
under pressure. I get you know you don't you think
I eat under pressure? United States Men's national team defender.
How dare you? You think I'm the tim ream of eating?
You think you think Harmon's gonna jump over me and
head the ball into the next man.

Speaker 1 (22:34):
So, uh, that's my preparation was. I didn't really eat
dinner because I so, I'm really hungry right now, and
I've had half of a Pepsi zero.

Speaker 3 (22:42):
In the in the last carbonation may affect some of
your but again, it's it's only one hot dog, and
it's you know, I look, everybody makes choices.

Speaker 1 (22:51):
Yeah, you know I made I made choices, and that's
kind of where I'm at. Boy, it's a little bigger
than I thought it would.

Speaker 4 (22:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (22:58):
I didn't even know if we were going to run
the bit because you know, like we didn't talk about
that really at all. Exchanged a couple of stories, and
then I started getting people on Instagram. Hi, guys, I
ask you, so, what time?

Speaker 4 (23:10):
What time?

Speaker 3 (23:11):
What hot dog?

Speaker 7 (23:12):
Yeah, just take your own advice.

Speaker 3 (23:14):
Gotta get to at least eight nine inches then it's
gonna be good. It is now, so you can see
that's true. I'm showing. I'm showing you there response to
the hot dog. This is this is the hot dog
right here? All right, there you go, there's the Costco
hot dog.

Speaker 1 (23:24):
So again, I got forty seconds from the beginning of
the call, Yeah, to eat it. I'll tell you, man,
I felt I didn't feel good. Then I felt good.
Now I don't feel as good.

Speaker 3 (23:35):
Everybody with rapt attention, I mean, you can see the
excited nature of the The crew is fully assembled. I
mean Julian has popcorn. Yeah right, get your popcorn ready.
So we'll start this now. To win, I either have
to say done or slam the table. When I don't,
I'll try to say done. You collapse, I'll just start

(23:56):
talking over you. I'll try to say done. Wow, Why
that hurt? Take that for days?

Speaker 2 (24:01):
That hurt?

Speaker 3 (24:04):
Now? Now I got that. Now, I got that. That
that adrenaline running for Fizdale Hammer.

Speaker 1 (24:08):
I'll try to say done, okay, so that would be
the official. But if sometimes if I'm done, I slap,
that's the same thing, all right, slap all right now
Now I don't really need breathing exercises. I just need
to get ready to go. And uh, when I say
to play that, when I say play it, you play it.
I'll start eating when he starts with his goal, Give
me fav play the beginning of it for me so

(24:29):
I know when I'm expecting him to say goal, just
so I know and expecting me. Okay, all right, very good,
I got it now, Okay, I got it. Okay, all right,
so here we go, so I hang on. All right,
this is perfect all right. The temperature again, the temperature
is good enough. This is heated up in the microwave. Okay, uh,

(24:51):
this is a much more chewier.

Speaker 3 (24:53):
But but okay, you know what.

Speaker 1 (24:54):
Look I'm gonna see and see how.

Speaker 3 (24:55):
Far we get. All right, now, you're excuse making. Let
me cut a couple of deep breaths. Hang on, boy,
it's a little bigger than I thought it would be.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
A couple of deep breaths. Ready, just remember you're hungry.
You've eaten hot dogs this fast before. I'm gonna eat
that ass up. Okay, I got it, Tysher, you can't.
I'm hyping you up. I gotta I gotta get in
the right frame of mind. Man, I got or team
USA and I show up flat against Belgium.

Speaker 3 (25:17):
Come on, man, I can't have that. I can't have
that now.

Speaker 1 (25:19):
I'm not gonna do the whole dip the bun in
the water like Joey Chestnut does. It's not really eating
a hot dog. That's just finding a way to put
a hot dog bun in your body.

Speaker 3 (25:28):
Okay, all right, here we go. All right, hang on,
give me three deep breaths two? All right, ty Shirt, play.

Speaker 4 (25:39):
It messy, can gonna tell you off? You don't.

Speaker 3 (26:06):
Thinking about it too much? Thinking about the Knicks.

Speaker 8 (26:25):
I was starting to curtain.

Speaker 3 (26:29):
Things, alright.

Speaker 10 (26:30):
He was able to shovel it into his gullet, but
couldn't finish those last two plus bites your selfish bath
to where he kind of looked like a chipmunk at
the end.

Speaker 3 (26:41):
As the end moments of Cantor's call came. So in
the fourth hour, we will.

Speaker 7 (26:50):
Try it again. Boy, that was Jason. Yeah, you chewed
way too much.

Speaker 3 (26:56):
A lot of ponderous moments there, like you really try
to savor and enjoy the base hot dog. Yeah, yeah
it was. This was not a gourmet sausage that you
found at you know, some farm you were staying at
and they had the you know, the picture of the
the animal that it was processed from. No, this was
just a standard hot dog. It was a It was

(27:19):
a bigger hot dog than I thought. The bun was
a little bigger than I thought it would be. The
bun was a little bit bit chewier.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
Like I think if I think instead of a Costco
hot dog, if I had one of those like ballpark
hot dogs that are like nine dollars but they're really
tiny like that, it might have been able.

Speaker 3 (27:34):
To give mean the ones that I you know, the
bread isn't really bread like. This actually has a little
bit of haf to. Yeah like that, you know, if
this might actually be a you know a little more
of a pure bread like product. I think it was
good on them. It was a sesame seeds on the bread.
I would have been okay with that. Yeah, but I did.
I think I felt like I had to chew a

(27:56):
lot because the bun was really difficult. Well, I mean also.

Speaker 7 (28:01):
A little bit, Jason. Yeah, you even started with the
hot dog in your mouth.

Speaker 3 (28:09):
I did.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
I had my mouth completely down the hot dog.

Speaker 7 (28:12):
You were too much in your head. That was why
I could tell.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
I was giving myself an extra second, And it turns
out I needed I probably, you know, if it was
a minute, I probably could have done it.

Speaker 8 (28:20):
Well.

Speaker 3 (28:21):
Since you guys probably were also recording doing a Mystery
Science Theater three thousand commentary between the three of you,
I think he might have been a fearful of what
kind of visual he was presenting you.

Speaker 7 (28:31):
Jason, everybody believe in you. In your I said, he's
not doing it. Wow, thanks everybody. I just tell you
appreciate it. You don't eat for freaking like fast. You
eat for pleasure. You've never been like that.

Speaker 3 (28:40):
Yeah no, no, no, no no, no, he goes fast
in here this way? This was it was from there.

Speaker 1 (28:48):
I got the whole hot dog in my mouth. I
got all of it in my mouth. Oh wow, there
you go there. Yeah, there's a freebie. Everybody else got
the whole world in his hands. This gay I got.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
The whole thing in my but it was just too
It was just too much. Definitely in a minute, I
could have done it. And maybe a smaller hot dog.

Speaker 1 (29:07):
Maybe like you know, like little like like like like
pigs in a blanket, just how many can eat?

Speaker 3 (29:11):
Well, I mean, if we did that, I mean, now
we're getting a true over under kind of amount.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
I mean Costco hot dog. That was I mean, that
was big again, and I wasn't psyched out by it.
I just knew it was a little bit more of
a challenge. But in the end, I got the I
got all of it in my mouth. I just couldn't finish.
It took me a little bit longer than that.

Speaker 3 (29:29):
And that's one to grow up.

Speaker 1 (29:30):
But the good news is I'm still hungry, so we
can maybe try it again, because I you know, maybe
I'll eat a little bit differently whatever it is. Maybe
I don't know, maybe I won't chew as much. Maybe
I will, I don't know. Maybe I'll try it. Okay,
uh oh, that's that's not really safe. I mean again,
I'm still hungry, so I'll have another hot dog at
some point, so maybe we'll try it again, all right, Yeah,
I mean there's I mean I gotta get points for that, right. Oh,

(29:52):
well he did work the first time with the competitive
you could have tried it again.

Speaker 3 (29:55):
Well, I mean, look, as long as you again, we
don't have a reversal. Yeah, no, an opportunity to try again.
I mean, you did look like you enjoyed the hot dog,
and that was the thing. Yeah, that's what I thought.
After the first bite, as you started chewing, it was like,
pretty good. You liked the hot talk too much for
the challenge you had accepted. It was that it became
a that's pretty good, and now you're savoring the hot

(30:16):
dog instead of just shoving it down your gullet.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (30:19):
I mean that's the one thing. It did taste good,
and I was like, oh, I'm enjoying this. I didn't
go mindless to it, where I'm sure all the other
competitive eaters.

Speaker 3 (30:24):
You got to be a mindless eating machine. Have you
not watched Jaws nine thousand times? That was good?

Speaker 1 (30:30):
And and here and here's where I'm at right now,
quite honestly, like I could go for another one right now.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
Yeah, just shakes his head. I I could have another
hot dog right now. I think I think I could.

Speaker 7 (30:40):
You were just too into it.

Speaker 3 (30:42):
In fact, I think I will I have another hot
dog in like two minutes on one more.

Speaker 7 (30:45):
Jason, you weren't eating to win?

Speaker 1 (30:46):
What do you mean?

Speaker 4 (30:47):
I was?

Speaker 3 (30:47):
Of course I was eating to win. Yes, I was.

Speaker 7 (30:49):
You chewed way too much.

Speaker 1 (30:50):
I was trying to chew because I didn't want to choke. Oh,
by the way, food I am, I'm a professional. Do
not try this at home. This was this was for
entertainment purpose. This was eating a hot dog on a
pass fail scale. Maybe my maybe my mouth isn't big enough. Yeah,
maybe my jaw doesn't give me. Maybe my jaw doesn't
move like the competitive eaters do. Did you record You're

(31:11):
part of that conversation too. I mean league as are
throwing one liners back and forth. I mean they're all,
you know, working bloom.

Speaker 3 (31:18):
But you see somebody you know in the NFL or
the like, well, they're really built.

Speaker 1 (31:22):
I could see why.

Speaker 3 (31:23):
And other guys like, ah, they don't have the bill,
they didn't you know, God didn't bless their body. They
didn't work hard enough, working out or anything else like that.
Like maybe my jaw just isn't that kind of jo
Sanchez finished his sideline hot dog in less than forty seconds.
But did he have all the bun though? Did he
have the bun or did he just use the bun
as a as a a vehicle as a Because I

(31:45):
could have done the hot dog without the bun, that's easy.
I could have easily done the hot dog without the
bun like that's there's no doubt my money, I could
have done that. We don't have the staff to pixel late.

Speaker 4 (31:55):
No.

Speaker 1 (31:56):
Oh yeah, that would have been a really bad. I
got the whole thing in my mouth, but it was
just too much.

Speaker 3 (32:01):
Yeah, oh yeah, yeah I sounded man. Yeah, No, it's okay.
I mean, I mean, look, I tell it like it is. Yeah.
I can't lie, No shame, camera doesn't lie.

Speaker 7 (32:09):
I just can't believe everyone believed you that you would
do it.

Speaker 3 (32:11):
I was I got the I got the whole thing
in my mouth.

Speaker 8 (32:14):
Tight shirt.

Speaker 3 (32:14):
What can't you understand about that?

Speaker 7 (32:16):
Pause? No, I feel like I'm just doing it on perp. No,
absolutely you are, Jason. You were just too much in
your head. I could say after that first bite, well.

Speaker 3 (32:25):
But I but I thought he really was enjoying it,
like he hadn't had a So I think he had
the bite and was like, that's not bad and then
he chewed, and then he chewed s and he chewed
three or four times.

Speaker 7 (32:36):
We'll go back hungry. Yeah, yeah, that's why you didn't
win this. You're supposed to do this to win, but
you're hungry, so you wanted to enjoy the food.

Speaker 3 (32:42):
No, I wanted to fill my stomach. No. Yeah, like
I said, I can have another hot dog, right, Oh gosh,
I really can. As like I'm the devil pushing pushing
another hot dog in your general direction. Yeah, I said
I could have another one, And all of a sudden,
Harmon's got it right, and it's on a play here,
it is here, it is first one's free. Here's your

(33:03):
second one again.

Speaker 7 (33:03):
Right, now, here's your second one.

Speaker 3 (33:04):
I'm gonna go warm it up and eat it. Another challenge.
He watched the challenge again. I was good.

Speaker 1 (33:10):
I I mean really, I mean at the very end,
I didn't win. I gave it my best shot and
I ate a hot dog, but you gave us great content.
We'll turn the video around.

Speaker 3 (33:20):
I got about five minutes of great and script good,
and then it started getting a little weird, so I
cut it out. Yeah, so you know, it's just make sure, hey,
you know, because you were getting really in.

Speaker 1 (33:31):
Your head about let me just let me just let
me just say this because I be serious for a second.

Speaker 3 (33:35):
Okay, Oh no, it's a very serious matter. There's no
question about it.

Speaker 4 (33:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (33:39):
Again, clearly entertainment purposes.

Speaker 3 (33:41):
All I am not. I'm not condoning this. No, I'm
just saying, uh, when you edit this, edit it smartly. Okay,
just just edit, just edit it smartly. Okay, All right. Well,
I mean the fact that I got the first minute
of the conversation and food part in slow motions. So
whenever it'll be great, Well, I don't want it to
be like whenever I get quoted on the inner because
of something I said. That's the picture they use, like

(34:02):
me shoving a hot dog man. Okay, that's like I
don't want I don't want that.

Speaker 8 (34:07):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (34:07):
I don't want that. You're gonna get it. I'd rather
you don't want it. No, no, you do, I don't.
I don't want that.

Speaker 7 (34:13):
You know who you are in soccer players for that
eating contests. You were early Holland right there, you were great,
great hype up. You performed beginning, couldn't finish.

Speaker 3 (34:20):
I didn't just stop and say you can't do anymore.
I ate the whole hot dog. I ate the whole
hot dog. Well it was I mean it was shoved indo.
I ate the whole thing. Eventually, I didn't walk out
with a stuffed raccoon. He didn't spit it back out
on the plate. And now, could you eat a whole
raccoon over there over a four hour show like the

(34:40):
old ninety sixer challenges, Yeah, if it's prepared properly.

Speaker 1 (34:45):
I don't know, man, I don't think I've ever had
a little part of it.

Speaker 3 (34:49):
I would just say this, because that tax is Dervious
down in Texas is gonna have a lot of raccoons.
I don't think that. I don't think there's a lot
of meat on raccoon. No, that's what I mean. Thinking
a four hour period, you could probably take it down.

Speaker 1 (35:00):
Like alligator wings.

Speaker 3 (35:00):
I don't think there's a lot of meat on the
on the alligator wings.

Speaker 1 (35:02):
I don't think there is.

Speaker 3 (35:03):
It's not like you know, ordering buffalo wild wings or wings.
You could do that too, if you want to do
that challenge, come on what you do wing?

Speaker 8 (35:12):
Hey?

Speaker 1 (35:12):
Any food challenge? Because I get to eat like, I'm
okay with that all right, get that ordering, But I
really am gonna eat that other Oh, I know, I know,
I'm gonna eat another hot dog. There we go, exit
out about a fresca, exit swollen down The Jason Smith

Greetings, Welcome in side our three The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 4 (36:49):
Well dressed Hobo, Big day in the NBA.

Speaker 3 (36:52):
At Fanatics Fest today, Lebron James said, you're all gonna
have to wait a little bit longer before I make
my decision. Pat in the heat say, hey, we landed
one big plane in Yannis.

Speaker 1 (37:03):
We got to land another one. Maybe it's Lebron. Steve
Kerr is a traffic stop saying yeah, go ahead, we
got him.

Speaker 3 (37:08):
Put it out there. On social media, go get it?

Speaker 1 (37:11):
So what is next for Lebron James? Joining us now
on the hotline? Nobody better than a man who has
been going through summer league with a fine tooth comb
in attendance. He's on Twitter at Rick Buker. It is
at Rick Buker.

Speaker 3 (37:26):
It is the aforementioned Rick Buker. Rick happy summer league man.
How's it going?

Speaker 5 (37:31):
It is going? Well. How are you, gentlemen in this
period where if you're doing sports radio, you are working
over time trying to find those similating topics I know,
so I'm here to help.

Speaker 1 (37:45):
I always say, this is what they pay me for,
Like hey, during the nflc like this, What's what they
pay me for? But again, I'm also booied by the
fact that I can still find new Nicks Playoffs content
on social media every day that I've never seen before.

Speaker 5 (38:00):
It's just fantastic as long as you're keeping it to yourself,
because I know what we said July won.

Speaker 3 (38:05):
No no, no, no.

Speaker 1 (38:07):
I made you a deal and you said you didn't
want to do it.

Speaker 3 (38:11):
That was not a deal that I said you had to.

Speaker 1 (38:15):
Have on your on the Ball podcast. You have to
have everybody who showed up for the Jalen Brunson lookalike
contest one a week until all thirty guys were on.
And if you did that, we would never talk about
the Knicks again.

Speaker 5 (38:28):
You said, Noah, And I'm glad that you repeated exactly
what the terms of that offer was so that everybody
listening can go okay.

Speaker 3 (38:36):
That's why Rick didn't take it.

Speaker 5 (38:38):
Understood, Yeah, no, uh, okay, whatever.

Speaker 10 (38:43):
Go ahead.

Speaker 1 (38:44):
I got it because I assume it's summer league. All
everybody was talking about was the Knicks championship.

Speaker 3 (38:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (38:50):
No, no, it was amazing, it was surprising, It was
not surprising at all. No, we moved on.

Speaker 3 (38:57):
I did.

Speaker 5 (38:57):
I did watch. I did watch the Nick play, but
they weren't first and foremost on my list. I did
get to see just about every uh every quality. I
don't know if I saw every first round pick. I
certainly saw like the first ten, eleven, the first dozen,

(39:19):
I'd say, the lottery picks. And this is supposed to
be a generational draft, so I was really curious. And
we know what's funny is in looking at the top
day four picks, certainly, which which was the first tier
of talent? Right, We're talking to Aj Debontso we're talking
Darren Peterson, Cam Boozer and Caleb Wilson, and that was

(39:41):
the top tier. And the feeling was like, you can't
go wrong. And as I'm watching them play and I'm
thinking about the teams that they're with, Uh, it could
go it could go wrong for every single one of them.

Speaker 3 (39:53):
Wow, not for them necessarily, but the teams they played
for right who impressed them? Though?

Speaker 5 (40:01):
Look, Aj Debounca, legitimately what had was should have been
number one, the number one pick. He showed an array
of skills. He outplayed Darren Peterson by a long stretch.
I'm just thinking that Aj Debantsa would be. He's a
great culture setter. He plays hard, he's spirited. Uh, they

(40:23):
had him playing point guard bringing it up and I thought, man,
they really got it right. And then I thought, he's
going to be playing with Trey Young and Anthony Davis.
How is that gonna work? The Jazz made a run
and the Bansa was like on his teammates, hey, we
got to play we got to play harder. He clearly

(40:45):
wants everybody to meet his energy and he is a feisty, spirited,
competitive guy. The Washington Wizards will love love having him
the Washington Wizards fans, But like Trey Young and Anthony Davis,
are they going to be okay with the BANTSA like
getting on them because they don't always play with that

(41:06):
that sort of intensity. I just I don't know how
that chemistry is going to work. And then Darren Peterson,
the whole idea was that they were he was going
to play point guard. He could not handle the physicality.
He struggled mightily, and this is Summer League where he
couldn't handle the physicality. He's a great shot maker. I
think he can be a quality two, but he's not

(41:28):
a one. And now that you're if he's not a one,
well you already have Cante George there, you got Ace Bailey,
you got you got to feed Lari Markinen, you got
Jaron Jackson like they need, they need him to be
a point guard, and I don't know that he is.
Cam Boozer was a lot better than I thought. I
think he was the most intelligent of the of the
four and the way he played, But how's he going

(41:50):
to play next to Zachie Edie those guys I could
see getting torched on the pick and roll, and then
finally Caleb Wilson was my was my guy who I thought.
You know what, I'm a little worried about Aaron Peterson
because of the Kansas issues. Cam Boozer is a safe pick,
but I don't know what his upside is. Caleb Wilson
is the guy after a Javan said that I would take,

(42:12):
and then I saw him play and I was like,
wildly talented, but place hard, place fast does not play smart,
and that will undercut everything else that he does. So
I had to back off, and I'm thinking Keaton Wagler
or Darius Acuff. There was four Kingston Flemings. There were

(42:36):
four of Michel Brown Junior. There were like four guards
taken after that, all of whom played a very composed game.
I went from thinking I would take Caleb Wilson number
two to thinking I might have taken one of those
guards number four if it was my choice. That's how
much my opinion of Caleb Wilson's flipped again. Wildly talented,

(42:57):
but man, his decision making incredibly suspect. And so I'm
looking at all four picks and I'm like, talent wise,
I'm not going to question what they have it's just
the fit with who took them. It'll be very interesting
to see how that plays out.

Speaker 3 (43:14):
Well. As I'm sitting here in a Bull's shirt, that
doesn't make me feel so great a bit, you know,
did Jim, But you know.

Speaker 5 (43:22):
Hey, like I've looked at the moves that the Bulls
have made, like Norman Powell, I liked that pick. They've
done it getting Claxton. I thought that was that was
a nice move. I liked their moves, and I thought
Caleb Wilson, man, that's another great one. I'm going to
reserve judgment for now. Let's let me let me do

(43:43):
that because it is one Summer League game. It's only
one game, but it's more where I had him versus
what I saw. I was over the moon on Caleb
Wilson and now I've backed off a little bit.

Speaker 3 (43:56):
So are you waiting with baited breath and hitting refresh
a million time times a minute like Adam Silver so
you can finish the schedule on Lebron James decision?

Speaker 5 (44:05):
No, well, no I'm not. I'm not, although I will
say when like Steve Kerr, you know, we had this
Steve Kerr episode that's classic Steve Kurb Oh yeah, we
got him, we got him.

Speaker 4 (44:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (44:17):
Put it up there like that's that's Steve Kerr poking
fun at the whole thing. I'm going to hold to
what I've said all along. I just I don't see
him in. I don't see Lebron's too smart to be
in the Western Conference. He wants, he wants to at
least think that he has a shot at getting to
the conference finals, maybe the finals. The only way he
does that if he stays in the East and and

(44:39):
and here it we talked. I think we talked about
it last time. And it only as this drags out,
it only deepens the wound if he doesn't go back
to Cleveland. Like I just if he goes back to Miami.
He picked Miami twice over Cleveland. Come on, Philadelphia. And
the biggest problem here is is everybody has spent their money,

(45:02):
and so we're looking at Lebron signing a minimum deal.
I think most of the teams have two s roster
spots left so they could fit Bronnie and Lebron in.
But this is like nobody has saved any money to
make an offer that is better than anybody else's. Golden

(45:25):
State and Cleveland because Harden and Draymond Green opted out
have some wiggle room. But those guys did that under
the assumption that they were going to be signed back
on longer term deals and they're not going to take
some massive steep discount. Draymond Green opted out of twenty

(45:49):
almost twenty eight million. I'm sure he's expecting that his
next deal is going to be twenty plus, which leads
very little room to make a notable off to Lebron.
And then you're going to be paying heavy tax and
some of your you know, you're you're you're moving into
the second apron. And same thing with James Harden. Jade
Harbin opted out of forty two million. I can't see

(46:13):
him taking anything less than thirty five on a new deal.
So it's there aren't a whole lot of you know,
for for as many teams are saying like, yeah, we
take we can fit Lebron in, we take Lebron and
guys coming out and saying it, they're saying it, but
they didn't, you know, financially, what they're doing is we'll

(46:34):
take him. We'll take him on our terms, which is
a which is a minimum deal. And you know how
how Lebron handles that what he decides is most worth
to him. I just I don't see as far as
a finish, like how anything beats going back to Cleveland.

Speaker 1 (46:52):
You know, Rick to look at this from a little
bit different side because we've had time now, because you know,
Lebron likes all this attention that he's going to have.

Speaker 5 (46:59):
Is that no, no, he don.

Speaker 1 (47:06):
I mean going through free agency. I kind of I
kind of get the sense overall a lot of contending
teams are teams that think they're contenders have a little
bit of a cat that ate the Canary smile going on, like, hey,
there's still some big things that are gonna happen. And
maybe it's a Lebron James when he decides to sign,
But I get I get the sense that we're not

(47:29):
done with the big names moving and big and big
deals happening over the course of the rest of the summer,
just because I can't believe that some of these teams
that think, hey, we're this close to a championship are
done and they say, yes, we're done going in. This
what we're gonna this.

Speaker 3 (47:42):
Is what the Pistons are gonna look like, This is
what the Cavs are gonna look like, this is what
the Heat's gonna look like, This is what the Nuggets
are gonna look like, all the stuff. I just get
a sense that there's gonna be some big movement. And
I could throw in something like maybe the Spurs decide, hey,
we can't bring the Aaron Fox back. We have to
you know, hartburn Castle augh to get all the minutes,
and after the NBA Finals we got him. But I
just get the sense that maybe Lebron is the kickstart

(48:03):
of this, but I think there's going to be a
second phase of some big moves over the course of
the rest of the summer.

Speaker 5 (48:09):
Well, it's a fair point, and I'm not going to
say that there are teams. I mean, Detroit has Dylan
Duran restricted free agent out there, and you know how
that plays out. And I do think that they need
they need something. Benedict Matherin is out there restricted free agent.

(48:32):
But the but the great difficulty is that the combination
of the last two collective bargaining agreements have essentially created
a hard cap. And so while I think there, I
think you're right and that there are teams out there
that if they really want to put themselves firmly in

(48:53):
the title contender category need to make another move. Thinking
a big move is going to be so challenging because
you have to have the contracts match up perfectly, and
so that's where that's where it's going to be difficult

(49:14):
in those teams getting that done. And so I don't
know if I could see most still being made. I
don't know if it's going to be this summer. And
I really don't know that Lebron is a game changer
at this point. I know Jannis, you know there was
a clip of Yannis fearful that he was going to

(49:37):
Cleveland again. I just look at the contenders and how
they've approached this, and if they thought that Lebron was
really the game changer, then if you're Philadelphia, do you
go out and sign Dean Wade and Anthony Simon's and
basically leave yourself no wiggle room to make an offer.

(49:58):
I mean, if you wanted to go get Lebron, if
you really thought he was a piece, the last piece,
then why not save that what twenty thirty million that
they paid Dean Wade to give to dangle in front
of Lebron so that hey, you know what You're not
going to get fifty like you did last year, but

(50:19):
we can give you far more than anybody else can.
I just I haven't seen that happen, which is why
it makes me think that the teams at least are
not looking at him as the piece that puts them
over the top.

Speaker 3 (50:33):
Rick. Since we're talking a little bit on the business
of it, last week David Kelly was talking about it
and criticizing all of it and talking about the second
apron and how restrictive. Is there any chance they try
to go back and reopen the books to make create
a second a different system to alleviate these issues.

Speaker 5 (50:55):
Honestly, I think the owners love where this is.

Speaker 3 (50:59):
Sure.

Speaker 5 (50:59):
I think that I think I and my theory is
the combination of twenty seventeen where they introduced the Supermax
and this CBA which introduced the harsh Farst penalties for
going too far over the cap, the combination and I'm

(51:21):
spitballing here. I haven't talked to anybody about this theory,
but I don't think that the owners enjoyed twenty ten
the Summer of player empowerment, when they were dancing to
the tune of all those superstar players and the last
two cbas have effectively put the control, the financial control,

(51:42):
and the ability to say, hey, we'd love to pay
you more, but we simply can't. And if you want,
I mean because now we have look where we are.
Shane gilg Is, Alexander Jalen Brunson and now Victor Webbin
Yama have all taken less than they could have could
could make because if they do take the Max or

(52:03):
the Supermax, they know that their teams are going to
be hamstrung to build championship caliber teams around them. So
the owners have the players negotiating against the superstar players
negotiating against themselves, like, well, we can pay you the Supermax,
but we're not going to be able to give you

(52:24):
a whole lot of help. Or you take less and
we'll try to get you We'll try to get you
some help. It's I think the owners like I think
they're perfectly happy with the way things are right now
because they essentially have.

Speaker 3 (52:39):
A hard cap and the New York Knicks have changed
the NBA. I told you they screwed it all up
with their selflessness. Yea things Rick Buker never thought he
would say on the radio. Ever, in his life man. Yeah,
here we are.

Speaker 5 (52:53):
Yeah, the things that I have said, if you had
asked me a year ago, two years ago, if you
had said, yeah, you know what, Rick, your next next,
next spring and summer, You're going to be saying this
on the Jason Smith Show.

Speaker 3 (53:09):
But the Jason Smith Show, there is no way I
will be saying that on the show.

Speaker 5 (53:14):
And yeah, here we are, yet and yet here we are.

Speaker 10 (53:19):
Yo.

Speaker 3 (53:20):
Life is funny that way it is.

Speaker 5 (53:22):
It's just a it's a barrel full of laughs. Jason.
I'm just so amused at the things that I've had
to concede to you about the Knicks. A party are har.

Speaker 3 (53:38):
He's on Twitter at Rick Buker, Fox Sports one inside
of check out Beyond the Ball podcast, which will not
be featuring everyone who went to the Jalen Brunts and
Lookalike contest, so there will be more Knicks talk, Rick,
as always want to talk about Dylan Brunton. Very good, very.

Speaker 1 (53:53):
Good, And as much as you can get in there, Rick,
as much as you can.

Speaker 3 (53:58):
Like a photo, Jason for like a photo with him,
Rick nine and sixty seven dollars worth. There you go,
take it easy, buddy, see you about Hey, you guys,
love you by Rick.

Speaker 1 (54:10):
It's only nine hundred dollars going to a picture with
Jalen Bruns And oh, that's awesome, great stuff from Rick
as that was awesome, great stuff on the Summer League.
On what's going next for Lebron James. Coming up next, Yeah,
second half of the MLB season kicked off tonight. Some
shocking numbers in from the All Star festivities. That's next
