I don't know if I've ever heard with Pattinson with

biggest movie buff anymore.

nerd again. Now that my kids are leaving. Hey have time,
so I'm gonna have a lot of time. So now
I'm gonna catch up on all those shows that everybody
told me were so great. I mean we went and
saw The Odyssey a week ago and enjoyed that.

Oh wow, Roger bladder do I'm a little worried I
was going to make it through that was I was
pretty good, holding up well in my old age.

But you know, I will say this.

You know, there once upon a time was an app
that would tell you the perfect time to pause and
and skip out of the movie theater.

I know, Oh that's a really useful app. I didn't
know there was that was an app learning so much that.

I I try to add value to America and the
world overall. But I can tell you this. In the Odyssey,
there are several scenes where if you disappeared and went
and he filled your so soda cup after you know
you you hit the facilities, I think it'll be okay, Alex,

would you agree? I mean, you went za right, I
mean I did yeah, I mean you have the opportunity.
I mean, it's a fantastic film starts.

There's only one theater in Vegas with a seventy millimeter IMAX.
It's at the Palms, and there's a very long wait
for tickets. But I do want to see it. I
just feel like I want to see it, right.

No, I get that.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
I went and saw it with the Doobey sound on
what was still a big screen. I didn't wait for
the seventy miliwere I think Alex did, though I did,
you did?
Speaker 5 (04:34):
He went? He went super sized it. Yeah, I had to.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
I mean, I've seen the difference. It's the way it's
supposed to be watched.
Speaker 7 (04:40):
It's definitely a better enjoyable experience, like, for example, it's
writing in a Hana Civic or a BMW. It feels better,
tractions better, It's built to have more like that performance.
But the thing is what Mike said, I had to
dip out for a fifteen minute concession line to get
Mike that's drink.

But see, there's good. But that's the thing we've been
talking about here a lot. Jared and the guys like
we're all we're all movie people. Mons everybody tries to
get out a little bit, right. The fact that these
places are packed again, the fact that people are standing
in line to get their popcorn bucket. Maybe by the
forty nine ninety nine or I think it was the

seventy nine to ninety nine Trojan Horse one, but like
the point people, yeah.

No, huge, Oh it's huge.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Like I've seen people that have fashioned it to where
they've drilled into the head, made it a lamp.

Unbelievable.

And then it's also a storage container too for like
keys and stuff like.

It's brilliant.

But the fact goodyear for movies.

But that's the thing, right, you got a bunch of blockbusters,
you got a bunch of uh even like.

The horror movies. All of these.

Things are bringing people back to a theater and it
just warms my heart.

It's great. It started with Obsession. It's a seven hundred
and fifty thousand budget movie made over six hundred million dollars.
They extended the theatrical run. It took me two months
to watch it streaming, and that again came into Odyssey.
What I could argue Chris Rehn Nolan's most recent best
movie he's made. It's like and then Spider Man. It's insane.
My theater was so packed, Mike. There was overflowing trash cans.

The parking lot was packed. I had to park at Costco,
so ed walk across.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
I mean, that's the best, right, because you've got multiple screens,
and then theater has been very creative bringing back the
eighties and nineties movies on the smaller screens, and those
are selling out. My daughter and I went and watched
Too Long Fu Thanks for everything, Julie Newman. Wow on
a Sunday after but a Sunday afternoon, right, Swayzy Snipes

and Legazamo.

It was packed.

There were one hundred people in that theater on a
Sunday afternoon. So I mean, it's just cool to see
an obsession. You know, my daughter's seen it twice with
her friends and her sister. She jokes she's seen it
enough for all of us. So I haven't even watched
it streaming. But it's filled up the bar, right, So
you got folks post those movies going and having a

drink at Mcguffin's not that this to make this a movie.

Public service announcement or whatever.

I just like when people get excited and there they
want to gather together that something's big intough there's a
reason that.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
I mean, those are my best memories to be bad. Like,
I grew up in South Florida and in the nineties,
and that's when Sawgrass Mills Mall. For those who are
from that area, you know what that is. That was
when it was just being built. And I remember going
to the movies. This is the late nineties. I remember
it was Star Wars Episode one, Phantom Menace, and I

was thirteen years old, nineteen ninety nine, and I remember
that opening at the Sawgrass Mills Theater. It was like
the coolest place to be on a Friday night. And
I feel like that culture has gone a little bit
in our society because there's just so many other ways
to watch movies now. Well especially you can get this
year's brought it back a little bit, the biggest movie
in the business. Streaming off your pirated sites. Make sure

to run your Yeah, I know you feel bad, but
to be fair, I did watch it in theaters first,
and then I watched it again for free because I
felt like it wasn't one of those movies that I
needed to pay for twice. Okay, one ticket la la la,
la la la.

I didn't hear that at Jared smith Bett's where you
find and find me over at Swollen Dumb. Let's turn
our attention back to the other thing that brings people
together in that sporting events. We've watched it all summer long,
as people are filling up baseball stadiums watching the Cubs
Dodgers from from Wrigley earlier today, absolutely insane across the league,
great numbers, but tomorrow we welcome back the National Football League.

On one side, you got Carson Beck gonna get the
ride for Arizona. Jacoby Brissett's there, but he's one of
those guys that I would not be surprised if he's
spun off and dealt when it's all said and done. Yeah,
you got your one year deal in the mid teens.
That's I'll find it good. You were not our future,
but perform well enough that we've got you here. Jeremiah
(08:53):
Love will not play, so we won't get to evaluate him.
On the other side, Bryce Young's not gonna play either,
so we get some of the fun and excitement of
Kenny Pickett out on the grid iron, which is always good.
But the Bryce Young story that's swirling in the background, though,
is you know, dude, has he shown you enough that
(09:14):
he can make that elevation to where he's worthy of
the top dollar.
Speaker 5 (09:19):
Of whatever the market will bear. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
I've been pretty staunchly in the corner of I don't
pay a guy in the NFL until I have to,
because especially now that we're guaranteeing more and more money
as signing bonuses and everything. At the time, it may
make you feel good moment, but it's, you know, like
a late night meal. Insert your favorite fast food place here,
(09:45):
You're gonna pay for it in most cases by the
end of that deal. And I'm not even talking the
ten year deals when we're looking at these three to
five year deals. But we've got action tomorrow and we've
got the Cardinals plus one and a half.
Speaker 4 (09:59):
Yeah, So I'll say this about the preseason. If you
are willing to do your work, and when I say
do your work, I mean you are watching and listening
to every interview and scraping every piece of news that
comes from camp, and you know who the quarterbacks are,
how many series they are getting. If the market is
(10:20):
accounting for the fact that maybe this quarterback is getting
more so there's a lot of mental gymnastics involved with betting.
The preseason, you are doing significantly more work than in
the regular season. In the regular season, you're handicapping one
quarterback for each team, you're handicapping one set of starters
for each team. In the preseason, you're multiplying that by
three because you're usually seeing a first team in some cases,
(10:41):
and then the second team and then the third team.
Reps are i would say, the bulk of the work,
and it's a lot harder to price what a third
team guy is worth in the market, So it's more work.
But if you are a really big news hound and
you are really engaged in a lot of these teams.
If let's say you're a Carolina Panthers expert, you're from Charlotte,
(11:03):
you know every player inside and out, all ninety on
the roster, there is money and opportunities. In the preseason,
there's a lot of I would say, less eyeballs on it.
And if there's less eyeballs on it, if there's less
people betting it, that means the sports books aren't paying
as close attention to the numbers, and they might move
something that shouldn't be moved or they open something that
(11:24):
is a bad number, and then usually it'll get beaten
to submission. Like I bet in the preseason. I bet
games that are at minus two and a half and
they close three and a half in the end. In
the regular season, that never happens, like unless a quarterback
gets hurt for it to hop through a key number
like that, the key number of three. So I think
you want to keep your ears perked up, you want
(11:45):
to be engaged because you might get some opportunities to
bet the preseason. This specific game is really tough because
it's the first game and you it's like that fomo
element just grabs you in I will say this, Carson
Beck at from all accounts, look fantastic. He's gonna get
the start tomorrow night for Arizona.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
Right, you're not gonna see like I said, Brissett, probably
not gonna see Gardner Minshew either. So it's gonna see
a lot of reps. Because I was going to ask
you over under of one hundred yards, it's got a
sixty three percent probability.
Speaker 4 (12:14):
I think they're gonna let Carson Beck cook. So my
handicap on Carson Beck coming into the draft the consensus
coming into the draft was obviously Fernanda Mendoza one, Ty
Simpson two, and then kind of a hodgepodge as the
third quarterback in the draft. We saw some odds for
nus Meyer, We saw Jueler get a little bit of love.
We saw a couple of other guys get some love.
(12:36):
Carson Beck, in terms of the draft position rankings, was
like the fifth quarterback on the board, and I'd actually
I did a film study on him. Go back, go
to my sub stack and go watch the film study
I did where I said, that's wrong. Carson Beck's the
third best quarterback in this draft, and it's because of
his ability to I would say, deliver the football into
tight windows, and his mechanics and his experience. I mean,
(12:58):
this is the guy that played in the SEC for
number of years, went to Miami and was a breath
away from the national championship, and they covered that game,
and frankly, I think Beck played really well in the
entire season, and I think he's a guy that can compete.
And I wouldn't be shocked if Brissett struggles or gets
hurt and Carson Beck comes in and has success this year,
because I do think his mechanics and his maturity, his
(13:18):
experience is pro ready. So I think if you're competing
against the threes and Carson Beck, who I think is
kind of a two, maybe a one and a half
in terms of has a chance to be a starter,
but probably as a backup, I think that's pro Arizona.
So I would say Arizona early, Arizona first quarter, you know, like,
(13:38):
that's kind of the way I would look at it,
because I do think Carson Beck is a little bit
more ahead of where the market thinks he might be.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
Yeah, Mike, Mike Laflor also probably wanting to show, hey,
I've now got the keys to the kingdom. You gotta
set three and a half for the over under. I
know it doesn't count in the standings overall, but we
want to make a good showing of it. Get folks
a little bit excited for a squad that outside of
saying we drafted love, love and hope. See how it
all comes together. Hope is part of that trade deal.

who last year was all about staying in shape, and
here he is training and everything else all through the
off season and here we are just waiting for the day,
waiting for the notice and the Michael Jordan like facts

steal Fax things. I'm back.

But for Aaron Donald, he showed up and Sean McVay

the Rams today, which I guess.

It did come across at this tryout that we've ever had. Okay,
you think you could make the team. I think he
could make the tea. Yeah, that was honestly our way
of being able to get a workout with him within
the parameters of what's necessary. But give Smith said it's
the greatest tryout he's ever had.

Ever, I think before that the best tryout ever was
in the dark night when the joker said, hey, there's
only one spot right open right now, so we're gonna
have a cressive expanse snapped the pool que tryouts. Now

Aaron Donald on one end, we have plenty of time
to unpack that potential impact. They are the Super Bowl favorites,
as we get ready heard it. Miles Garrett missed a
couple of days because of lower body soreness. He's back

describe it. We have a Detroit G League squad. Yes,

the cruise that had an open tryout two hundred and
fifty bucks to participate, and video started circulating. Of course,
I had descended to our friend, the resident basketball expert,
Ernie Spaniard, to.

Say, Hey, you've got a shot.

You only have to pay two fifty to go play
in this, and you can't be any worse than what
I saw. Guys that made me look like mister America
running around on the court trying.

But for two hundred and fifty bucks, you want to
talk about a cash ground, Hey you want to shot
at a professional contract.

It's one of the greatest things. Ever, this is.

saw circulating Jared than most wise blacktops and anything around
these greater United States.

So fun fact, I work out at Lifetime Fitness here
in Summerlin pretty much him every day, and I work
out with a seventy one year old man who is
one of the bike leads. He does a lot of
the bike rides. His name is Bruce. Shot out Bruce.
He's not listening. He's probably with his wife enjoying his evening.
But we shoot hoops sometimes before or after our workouts.
That's what it looked like it looked like me, a

forty year old man, relatively in shape man, and a
seventy one year old man running up and down the
court trying to hit jumpers. That that's what it looked like.
The pickup game at your you know la fitness at
your you know gym. It was, for lack of a
better word, embarrassing, the fact that an NBA team even

considered doing this.

I don't know how.

Desperate you have to be, Mike. I mean, I'm single
in Vegas, so I guess desperation kind of reeks. It
kind of comes with the territory sometimes. But that's even
more desperate than me.

Fifty, now you get to go to the bar and say,
you know, I try it out for a professional team.

What do you think they did with that money? As
the question, it's like going to you know, five figures?

I mean, you know, your guys that actually make the
team will eat a little bit better, maybe staying a
little bit better of a hotel. Maybe you go and
fix some of what ails you on the bus that's
taking you up and down the highways. Oh man, nothing
else or maybe someone just absconds with the you have
the metal box, I want it all payable in cash.

Eagles in the NFC East and another year of changes
in the coaching realm Jalen Hurts, you know, always the

guy people like to watch him play until they don't
in Philadelphia. Is did that echo and reflect what the
national narrative is. Is he more beloved or is it
still as vexing Locally?

I think for the most part, he is absolutely beloved.
They remember he brought a Super Bowl, right so you know,
the fact is he went to one and one another.
And I think most fans have They're an incredibly loyal
fans when you win. And most fans they just hate

all the rankings and the fact that they see him
and they're you know, he's seventeen in this list and
nineteen in that list, and so they blanche at that
and they don't understand it.

Jalen comes with his flaws, but he's an incredible winner.
I think his biggest gene, he's got the winning gene.
He knows how to He may not be six four

And I think this is a fascinating time for Jalen
Hurts because Mike this is it like his contract, it's
up after next year, right, So this is when you
start to talking about extension. The Eagles are have a
dramatic new offense. Sean Mannion comes in from the Packers
and they're gonna run this you know, Ben Johnson this
(24:12):
uh you know under center offense, play action. They're gonna
roll the pocket there. He's gonna have to make you know, uh,
different reads, different progressions, and it's it's a change, right.
You know, he's so used to running the spread. He's
in shotgun.

You know for years when he was really good, it
was the RPO offense, right and because he had such
great legs, great mobility, he was dangerous. But last year
you saw it like got listen, I don't care if
we saw Lamar last year. At some point you got
to become a pocket guy. That's just how the league works.
Like you lose half a step, you gotta be a

pocket guy. So the evolution of this offense, so it
comes Manion and to run this offense and hurts has
been great man like.

This whole you know from Minnie camp On.

I think aj Brown leaving has has gave him a
little breath.
Speaker 10 (25:12):
He seems a lot more. He seems a lot happier.

He seems a lot more like engaged with everybody. And
I know he's taking it serious, like he's putting a
lot of work into it. You know, he was saying
the other day, you know, he's trying to relearn this
position from under center, Like he's working on thrown with
his feet and you know quarterbacks right like everything's your feet,

Like he didn't last year. His three step drop was
two and a half steps, his five step drop was
five and a half steps.

The minute there was a pressure, he bolted from.

The pocket and and you know, I think he frustrated
you a line a little bit. I think the OC
was a train wreck. So all that conspired to a
really bad offensive year for them, including Saquon. This year's
it feels like, you know, he wants to kind of
reinvent himself.

Yeah, as you look at the roster as assembled, and
I always wonder with number one receivers, I don't want
to use the diva tag, but let's call what it is.
A lot of the oxygen gets sucked out of the
room because you feel like you need to force the
ball there even if it's not there, because they're chirping
in your ear fan. You're hearing it from the fans,
(26:26):
you're hearing it from fantasy football owners, and folks will
dismiss it. The gamblers. All of that cacophony of voices
becomes a very large thing. So sometimes you end up
squeezing a little tighter and trying to make a throw
that isn't there. So part of that is just being
judicious and recognizing, hey, you may have to wear it
from that guy, but that guy's not there anymore. AJ

Brown is gone, and you look around the league and
you can point here, point there, whatever, you know, you're
talking about the work in the pocket. That's one of
the Caleb Williams, you know, points of em assisted year two.

All Right, be more resolved.

In how you're moving in the influid in the pocket,
but recognize when you need to check down. You don't
need to extend everything and taking a ton of hints
to where that's added up.
Speaker 10 (27:16):
Exactly. That's right.

No, A lot of pounded man, Well, dudes, get pounded
like that, you're just gonna lose a step you were
to lose, and he also half a step. Last year
he was not He did not have that burst that
he that he usually had which allowed him to run
away from trouble. And the idea like what Ben Johnson's
talking about, which is going to add years on the
on the other side of Caleb's career, which is stepping
(27:40):
up in the pocket right, not just bouncing it out
the minute you see any kind of trouble, you're gonna
bounce it out wide, step up, slide step, you know
that what like the masterful of of Brady's feet. Go
back to watch like I love quarterback play right watching
him play quarterback and the subtle movements, the subtle step
(28:05):
to the right, right, the subtle duck under and move
up into the pocket. That's all the stuff that that
Jalen's now going to be, you know, kind of working.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
With blessed to do it last fall. Hopefully we get
it back together again. But every Sunday morning I got
to have a nice extended two hour chat with Greg
Cosell here on Radio right, and a lot of what
we were talking about when it comes to Williams and
Jalen Hurts and a handful of quarterbacks. That stood out
(28:34):
to him in this regard was the recognizing what's real
pressure versus perceived in terms of your own acceleration of
moving up into the pocket before you need to and
thereby closing your outs. You can't escape and extend plays
anymore because you've gotten into no man's land around the
big guys, and you're not throwing over the big guys, right,

so you.

All right, like Jalen, who's a little on their side,
isn't going to do that.

You know, Brady with that stature could do that, sure,
but Jalen is not going to do it.

see like Caleb's arm. You see Jaden Daniel's arm right

stands out to me is your bookends where they're at

They need Lane right like, no, exactly right, Like Lane's
been there, guy, Hall of Famer, one of the best.

But Lane Johnson, you know, is important. He's miscamp last
few days with a personal thing, but he'll be back.

You're right that they need those tackles. The good thing
for them is that two things. One, their defense is
going to be special. Their defense is scary. It's scary good.
And I think that division is a two team division.

mean I did yeah, I mean you have the opportunity.
I mean, it's a fantastic film starts.

There's only one theater in Vegas with a seventy millimeter IMAX.
It's at the Palms, and there's a very long wait
for tickets. But I do want to see it. I
just feel like I want to see it, right.

No, I get that.

I went and saw it with the Doobey sound on
what was still a big screen. I didn't wait for
the seventy miliwere I think Alex did, though I did,
you did?

He went? He went super sized it. Yeah, I had to.

I mean, I've seen the difference. It's the way it's
supposed to be watched.
Speaker 7 (04:40):
It's definitely a better enjoyable experience, like, for example, it's
writing in a Hana Civic or a BMW. It feels better,
tractions better, It's built to have more like that performance.
But the thing is what Mike said, I had to
dip out for a fifteen minute concession line to get
Mike that's drink.

But see, there's good. But that's the thing we've been
talking about here a lot. Jared and the guys like
we're all we're all movie people. Mons everybody tries to
get out a little bit, right. The fact that these
places are packed again, the fact that people are standing
in line to get their popcorn bucket. Maybe by the
forty nine ninety nine or I think it was the

seventy nine to ninety nine Trojan Horse one, but like
the point people, yeah.

No, huge, Oh it's huge.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Like I've seen people that have fashioned it to where
they've drilled into the head, made it a lamp.

Unbelievable.

And then it's also a storage container too for like
keys and stuff like.

It's brilliant.

But the fact goodyear for movies.

But that's the thing, right, you got a bunch of blockbusters,
you got a bunch of uh even like.

The horror movies. All of these.

Things are bringing people back to a theater and it
just warms my heart.

It's great. It started with Obsession. It's a seven hundred
and fifty thousand budget movie made over six hundred million dollars.
They extended the theatrical run. It took me two months
to watch it streaming, and that again came into Odyssey.
What I could argue Chris Rehn Nolan's most recent best
movie he's made. It's like and then Spider Man. It's insane.
My theater was so packed, Mike. There was overflowing trash cans.

The parking lot was packed. I had to park at Costco,
so ed walk across.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
I mean, that's the best, right, because you've got multiple screens,
and then theater has been very creative bringing back the
eighties and nineties movies on the smaller screens, and those
are selling out. My daughter and I went and watched
Too Long Fu Thanks for everything, Julie Newman. Wow on
a Sunday after but a Sunday afternoon, right, Swayzy Snipes

and Legazamo.

It was packed.

There were one hundred people in that theater on a
Sunday afternoon. So I mean, it's just cool to see
an obsession. You know, my daughter's seen it twice with
her friends and her sister. She jokes she's seen it
enough for all of us. So I haven't even watched
it streaming. But it's filled up the bar, right, So
you got folks post those movies going and having a

drink at Mcguffin's not that this to make this a movie.

I just like when people get excited and there they
want to gather together that something's big intough there's a
reason that.

I mean, those are my best memories to be bad. Like,
I grew up in South Florida and in the nineties,
and that's when Sawgrass Mills Mall. For those who are
from that area, you know what that is. That was
when it was just being built. And I remember going
to the movies. This is the late nineties. I remember
it was Star Wars Episode one, Phantom Menace, and I

was thirteen years old, nineteen ninety nine, and I remember
that opening at the Sawgrass Mills Theater. It was like
the coolest place to be on a Friday night. And
I feel like that culture has gone a little bit
in our society because there's just so many other ways
to watch movies now. Well especially you can get this
year's brought it back a little bit, the biggest movie
in the business. Streaming off your pirated sites. Make sure

to run your Yeah, I know you feel bad, but
to be fair, I did watch it in theaters first,
and then I watched it again for free because I
felt like it wasn't one of those movies that I
needed to pay for twice. Okay, one ticket la la la,
la la la.

I didn't hear that at Jared smith Bett's where you
find and find me over at Swollen Dumb. Let's turn
our attention back to the other thing that brings people
together in that sporting events. We've watched it all summer long,
as people are filling up baseball stadiums watching the Cubs
Dodgers from from Wrigley earlier today, absolutely insane across the league,
great numbers, but tomorrow we welcome back the National Football League.

ride for Arizona. Jacoby Brissett's there, but he's one of
those guys that I would not be surprised if he's
spun off and dealt when it's all said and done. Yeah,
you got your one year deal in the mid teens.
That's I'll find it good. You were not our future,
but perform well enough that we've got you here. Jeremiah

Love will not play, so we won't get to evaluate him.
On the other side, Bryce Young's not gonna play either,
so we get some of the fun and excitement of
Kenny Pickett out on the grid iron, which is always good.
But the Bryce Young story that's swirling in the background, though,
is you know, dude, has he shown you enough that

he can make that elevation to where he's worthy of
the top dollar.

Of whatever the market will bear. I don't know.

I've been pretty staunchly in the corner of I don't
pay a guy in the NFL until I have to,
because especially now that we're guaranteeing more and more money
as signing bonuses and everything. At the time, it may
make you feel good moment, but it's, you know, like
a late night meal. Insert your favorite fast food place here,
(09:45):
You're gonna pay for it in most cases by the
end of that deal. And I'm not even talking the
ten year deals when we're looking at these three to
five year deals. But we've got action tomorrow and we've
got the Cardinals plus one and a half.
Speaker 4 (09:59):
Yeah, So I'll say this about the preseason. If you
are willing to do your work, and when I say
do your work, I mean you are watching and listening
to every interview and scraping every piece of news that
comes from camp, and you know who the quarterbacks are,
how many series they are getting. If the market is
(10:20):
accounting for the fact that maybe this quarterback is getting
more so there's a lot of mental gymnastics involved with betting.
The preseason, you are doing significantly more work than in
the regular season. In the regular season, you're handicapping one
quarterback for each team, you're handicapping one set of starters
for each team. In the preseason, you're multiplying that by
three because you're usually seeing a first team in some cases,
(10:41):
and then the second team and then the third team.
Reps are i would say, the bulk of the work,
and it's a lot harder to price what a third
team guy is worth in the market, So it's more work.
But if you are a really big news hound and
you are really engaged in a lot of these teams.
If let's say you're a Carolina Panthers expert, you're from Charlotte,
(11:03):
you know every player inside and out, all ninety on
the roster, there is money and opportunities. In the preseason,
there's a lot of I would say, less eyeballs on it.
And if there's less eyeballs on it, if there's less
people betting it, that means the sports books aren't paying
as close attention to the numbers, and they might move
something that shouldn't be moved or they open something that
(11:24):
is a bad number, and then usually it'll get beaten
to submission. Like I bet in the preseason. I bet
games that are at minus two and a half and
they close three and a half in the end. In
the regular season, that never happens, like unless a quarterback
gets hurt for it to hop through a key number
like that, the key number of three. So I think
you want to keep your ears perked up, you want
(11:45):
to be engaged because you might get some opportunities to
bet the preseason. This specific game is really tough because
it's the first game and you it's like that fomo
element just grabs you in I will say this, Carson
Beck at from all accounts, look fantastic. He's gonna get
the start tomorrow night for Arizona.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
Right, you're not gonna see like I said, Brissett, probably
not gonna see Gardner Minshew either. So it's gonna see
a lot of reps. Because I was going to ask
you over under of one hundred yards, it's got a
sixty three percent probability.
Speaker 4 (12:14):
I think they're gonna let Carson Beck cook. So my
handicap on Carson Beck coming into the draft the consensus
coming into the draft was obviously Fernanda Mendoza one, Ty
Simpson two, and then kind of a hodgepodge as the
third quarterback in the draft. We saw some odds for
nus Meyer, We saw Jueler get a little bit of love.
We saw a couple of other guys get some love.
(12:36):
Carson Beck, in terms of the draft position rankings, was
like the fifth quarterback on the board, and I'd actually
I did a film study on him. Go back, go
to my sub stack and go watch the film study
I did where I said, that's wrong. Carson Beck's the
third best quarterback in this draft, and it's because of
his ability to I would say, deliver the football into
tight windows, and his mechanics and his experience. I mean,
(12:58):
this is the guy that played in the SEC for
number of years, went to Miami and was a breath
away from the national championship, and they covered that game,
and frankly, I think Beck played really well in the
entire season, and I think he's a guy that can compete.
And I wouldn't be shocked if Brissett struggles or gets
hurt and Carson Beck comes in and has success this year,
because I do think his mechanics and his maturity, his
(13:18):
experience is pro ready. So I think if you're competing
against the threes and Carson Beck, who I think is
kind of a two, maybe a one and a half
in terms of has a chance to be a starter,
but probably as a backup, I think that's pro Arizona.
So I would say Arizona early, Arizona first quarter, you know, like,
(13:38):
that's kind of the way I would look at it,
because I do think Carson Beck is a little bit
more ahead of where the market thinks he might be.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
Yeah, Mike, Mike Laflor also probably wanting to show, hey,
I've now got the keys to the kingdom. You gotta
set three and a half for the over under. I
know it doesn't count in the standings overall, but we
want to make a good showing of it. Get folks
a little bit excited for a squad that outside of
saying we drafted love, love and hope. See how it
all comes together. Hope is part of that trade deal.

But we shoot hoops sometimes before or after our workouts.

Desperate you have to be, Mike. I mean, I'm single
in Vegas, so I guess desperation kind of reeks. It

you know, I try it out for a professional team.

team will eat a little bit better, maybe staying a

guy people like to watch him play until they don't
in Philadelphia. Is did that echo and reflect what the
national narrative is. Is he more beloved or is it
still as vexing Locally?

I think for the most part, he is absolutely beloved.
They remember he brought a Super Bowl, right so you know,
the fact is he went to one and one another.
And I think most fans have They're an incredibly loyal
fans when you win. And most fans they just hate

all the rankings and the fact that they see him
and they're you know, he's seventeen in this list and
nineteen in that list, and so they blanche at that
and they don't understand it.

Look, I think.
Speaker 8 (23:17):
Jalen comes with his flaws, but he's an incredible winner.
I think his biggest gene, he's got the winning gene.
He knows how to He may not be six four
and could throw dimes, but he throws a really nice
deep ball. He's got a great feel for the game.
You know, he's always always had that. He's a coach's

kid Alabama Oklahoma.

He will He's a hard worker, wants to win.

And I think this is a fascinating time for Jalen
Hurts because Mike this is it like his contract, it's
up after next year, right, So this is when you
start to talking about extension. The Eagles are have a
dramatic new offense. Sean Mannion comes in from the Packers
and they're gonna run this you know, Ben Johnson this

uh you know under center offense, play action. They're gonna
roll the pocket there. He's gonna have to make you know, uh,
different reads, different progressions, and it's it's a change, right.
You know, he's so used to running the spread. He's
in shotgun.

Uh.

You know for years when he was really good, it
was the RPO offense, right and because he had such
great legs, great mobility, he was dangerous. But last year
you saw it like got listen, I don't care if
we saw Lamar last year. At some point you got
to become a pocket guy. That's just how the league works.
Like you lose half a step, you gotta be a
(24:54):
pocket guy. So the evolution of this offense, so it
comes Manion and to run this offense and hurts has
been great man like.
Speaker 10 (25:03):
This whole you know from Minnie camp On.
Speaker 8 (25:06):
I think aj Brown leaving has has gave him a
little breath.
Speaker 10 (25:12):
He seems a lot more. He seems a lot happier.
Speaker 8 (25:15):
He seems a lot more like engaged with everybody. And
I know he's taking it serious, like he's putting a
lot of work into it. You know, he was saying
the other day, you know, he's trying to relearn this
position from under center, Like he's working on thrown with
his feet and you know quarterbacks right like everything's your feet,

Like he didn't last year. His three step drop was
two and a half steps, his five step drop was
five and a half steps.
Speaker 10 (25:44):
The minute there was a pressure, he bolted from.
Speaker 8 (25:46):
The pocket and and you know, I think he frustrated
you a line a little bit. I think the OC
was a train wreck. So all that conspired to a
really bad offensive year for them, including Saquon. This year's
it feels like, you know, he wants to kind of
reinvent himself.
Speaker 3 (26:06):
Yeah, as you look at the roster as assembled, and
I always wonder with number one receivers, I don't want
to use the diva tag, but let's call what it is.
A lot of the oxygen gets sucked out of the
room because you feel like you need to force the
ball there even if it's not there, because they're chirping
in your ear fan. You're hearing it from the fans,
(26:26):
you're hearing it from fantasy football owners, and folks will
dismiss it. The gamblers. All of that cacophony of voices
becomes a very large thing. So sometimes you end up
squeezing a little tighter and trying to make a throw
that isn't there. So part of that is just being
judicious and recognizing, hey, you may have to wear it
from that guy, but that guy's not there anymore. AJ
(26:49):
Brown is gone, and you look around the league and
you can point here, point there, whatever, you know, you're
talking about the work in the pocket. That's one of
the Caleb Williams, you know, points of em assisted year two.
Speaker 5 (27:01):
All Right, be more resolved.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
In how you're moving in the influid in the pocket,
but recognize when you need to check down. You don't
need to extend everything and taking a ton of hints
to where that's added up.
Speaker 10 (27:16):
Exactly. That's right.
Speaker 8 (27:18):
No, A lot of pounded man, Well, dudes, get pounded
like that, you're just gonna lose a step you were
to lose, and he also half a step. Last year
he was not He did not have that burst that
he that he usually had which allowed him to run
away from trouble. And the idea like what Ben Johnson's
talking about, which is going to add years on the
on the other side of Caleb's career, which is stepping
(27:40):
up in the pocket right, not just bouncing it out
the minute you see any kind of trouble, you're gonna
bounce it out wide, step up, slide step, you know
that what like the masterful of of Brady's feet. Go
back to watch like I love quarterback play right watching
him play quarterback and the subtle movements, the subtle step
(28:05):
to the right, right, the subtle duck under and move
up into the pocket. That's all the stuff that that
Jalen's now going to be, you know, kind of working.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
With blessed to do it last fall. Hopefully we get
it back together again. But every Sunday morning I got
to have a nice extended two hour chat with Greg
Cosell here on Radio right, and a lot of what
we were talking about when it comes to Williams and
Jalen Hurts and a handful of quarterbacks. That stood out
(28:34):
to him in this regard was the recognizing what's real
pressure versus perceived in terms of your own acceleration of
moving up into the pocket before you need to and
thereby closing your outs. You can't escape and extend plays
anymore because you've gotten into no man's land around the
big guys, and you're not throwing over the big guys, right,
(28:58):
so you.
Speaker 10 (28:59):
All right, like Jalen, who's a little on their side,
isn't going to do that.
Speaker 8 (29:03):
You know, Brady with that stature could do that, sure,
but Jalen is not going to do it.
Speaker 10 (29:07):
And Greg's right, Like, listen, he sees the tape.

I go over to the NFL films we were, I'm
thirty minutes away from there, so like I'm there all
the time.

Yeah, he's the best. And it's the truth like that
stuff like that doesn't lie.

Like when you're looking at that tape and you see
it and you know, now the difference with Caleb is
like he's just his arm talent istic.

That's why he's special.

And be with Luther Burden and if a Donz takes
that next step Award Loveland love scraping across the middle
and Crease I love that chaos right.

And I try not to try to be the voice
of Freezing as much as the fan, but I do.

I love Caleb the like again, the arm talent, forget
about forget the mobility stuff. His arm town that's what truthfully,
that's what. That's why Jalen hurts his rank where he
is now. I think he's ranked too low. But you

they rank him like that, you see uh ja you
see like Caleb's arm. You see Jaden Daniel's arm right
like you see those that you see that arm talent and.

It's just different.

Ball comes out different, It sounds different, you know, just
a little different.

Uh he was on soft tissue hammy and uh and
Minnie Camp and still that way now he's uh you
know again it's Earl but it's not early, right, you know.

Well, no, no, And I mean the kid's a baller.
I love him at SC. It's got a great attitude.
But you know he needs work, right, like he needs
a lot of work. And this whole offense is good.
There's gonna be a lot of ups and downs with
that offense because you know it's all they're installed.

It's going to be dramatically different.

Well, and with all of that, Anthony, the thing that
stands out to me is your bookends where they're at
in their respective careers. When we talk about my Alotta
and Johnson at you want to talk about Trent on
the tires.

Well Lane, yeah, I mean Lane, you know, and.
Speaker 8 (31:42):
They need Lane right like, no, exactly right, Like Lane's
been there, guy, Hall of Famer, one of the best.
I'm a big Lane Johnson guy, uh, gentleman, one of
the best. And may a lot is easy as prime.
But Lane Johnson, you know, is important. He's miscamp last
few days with a personal thing, but he'll be back.

You're right that they need those tackles. The good thing
for them is that two things. One, their defense is
going to be special. Their defense is scary. It's scary good.
And I think that division is a two team division.
I think it comes down to the Cowboys and Eagles.

the Saints last hour, the sexiness of the Commanders.

No, okay, no, no, I mean because you got Stefan Diggs.

the receiving Corps, mclaurin's good digs, what are you getting?
Game in, game out? And then you got McCaffrey and

a couple of guys that you're wishing, wanting, hope and
breakthrough where they didn't for teams past. Yeah, I mean again,
it's the I love Daniels and what he could be
and all of the good things that we saw in
twenty four. I think that's fool's goal thinking you're getting
