mean he wins even though Tyler Harrow was all, you know,
giggles and saying how everything was all fine and good

things in his interview.

is not without fireworks. As we found out today the
fight one punch fight. I guess it's kind of like
an octagon fight. I guess a one punch fight. Former
Heat teammates bam ade Bio and Tyler Herrow got into
a physical altercation in Vegas earlier today in which ada

Bio threw a punch and struck Tyler Herrow in the
head area of This was first reported by ESPN Shaans Gerania. Now,
why did this happen? Why is Tyler Hero trending? This
is not some random night in the middle of the
NBA season where he's got twenty five through three quarters, right.
Why guys like him and and and and Alex Caruso
trend all the time? Why are they trending? I can't

believe you, guy, Zach Levine. Why is Zach Lavine trending?
Apparently this goes back to the big trade that brought
Giannis in to the Miami Heat a week and a
half ago, where Tyler Hero shared a on social media
and social media is going to be the downfall of
Tyer Hero. On the story about players with the worst
mid range jumper conversion rates of the past year, Number

one on that list was Giannis. Number ten in the
list was maam At a Bio, his former teammate, who
we spent all kinds of time with, you know, Finals
team there in Miami a few years ago, and all
of a sudden, now okay, now they're not teammates anymore.
So if that was it, that would kind of be okay. Well,
he shared this a little bit of shade. You don't know,
is this kind of fun thing like usually the Knicks

like to do with each other or is this a
serious thing? It turned serious when, according to reports, a
fan that Tyler Hero had been dming with over the
course of the past few months, a guy who I
think he identified himself as this guy who lives in
Canada or something that he was talking smack about at
a Bio and the money that he that he's getting
and he shouldn't be getting sixty million dollars a year,
(03:55):
you know about, you know, for a guy that doesn't
play defense as often as he does. Basically there's a
big back and forth Hero saying stuff about at a
bio that you know is not flattering. The guy publishes
the dms, right, well, this is a story that's kind
of been in the periphery the last few days. Okay,
and at a bio confronted Tyler Herro at it earlier
today at a gym and walked up to him and

hit him once. Heroes got a little bit of a
tag under the eye and had to be broken up.
There was some stuff being yelled back and forth. And
now we have the great Miami Heat Milwaukee Bucks rivalry.
We didn't know we wanted Mike Harmon, but we're getting.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
It just because he said, you guys can't hit a
mid range jumper.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
You take you guys, what'd you guys fight over? He
took my girlfriend out on a date. What'd you guys
fight over? I stole my car and didn't tell me.
What'd you guys fight over? He made fun of my
mid range jump shot ability and that is not gonna happen. Man,
you do not cross that rubicon.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
He didn't show up at this basketball camp. He didn't.
I mean, there's a million other things, like he shared
a graphic that had some unflattering business. I e. It
exposed the fact that I can only score in the
low post.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Oh no, oh no.

I mean I'd like to think there were some other
transgressions in chaos that would get you to come to blows.
But uh hey, look if this gets people excited about
Summer League. I mean, we really haven't cared about Summer
League other than these stars, right, Caleb Wilson with a
big game. We talked about aj debonsa a little bit yesterday.
I mean, we haven't been this excited since Lonzo Ball
(05:29):
and his band of Merriman were taking over Summer League
a decade ago.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Yeah, I mean, really, this is we're gonna, We're gonna,
We're getting into this where now. I mean I think
that's just an easy thing, like oh yeah, okay, Lonzo
Ball's that LeVar Ball saying stuff about the Aaron Fox
and all. That's cool. Oh we need something a little
bit more, uh, a little bit more subtle, little bit more.
Twenty twenty six. Yeah, let's let's kick things off with
that mid range jump shot percentages list. Let's get now.

I gotta say, are all the guys in the top
ten now look at looking at Getty what Tyler hero
on this is it just Bama of bio or since
he's tenth, does he now have to watch out that
number nine? Number eight? And it's gonna end with the
honest right, Like, is he gonna watch out? Now? Is
this like you know, Billy Madison or something. I don't know, man,
I don't know. No, it's pretty much a hitless there's
no question about it. He's gonna go Jim to Jim

in the wee hours of the morning and he's gonna
find you.

I mean, look what happens in Vegas. Was supposed to
stay in Vegas? Nope, jumps jumps. These guys don't like
each other, these former teammates at Beef. I mean, really
this this, I mean, nobody walked out with a black
eye or no.

Tyler Harroll was doing interviews after Bam threw a punch
at me. Now here's the thing. So there's two big
takeaways from this, right, because this is just so silly.
Number one, And I was thinking about this because it
used to be. Right, you go back like twenty years
whatever it was if two people had a physical altercation

and you know, or I had an argument, whether it
was over you know, finances or mid range jump shot percentages.
The guy that threw the punch was always the guy
you walked away the winner, right, like, well, he threw
the punch, he was mad, and the other guy backed away,
and ah you you cowered away and he threw a punch.
You didn't throw a punch back. Oh yeah, that's the way.
You know, Bam, out of bios what he's the winner.

But I kind of like the fact that here we
are in twenty twenty six where when this happened today,
the first reaction I think everybody has and this shows
you I think that we're growing at least a little
bit as a nation. Is that Oh man, here's here's
a guy that couldn't control his emotions. And when years ago,
when when that would be something that would just get

swept under the rug. Here's something where now out of
bio's the guy that seems like, dude, what are you doing?
Speaker 3 (07:47):
Man?

Really you're arguing over stuff you guys yell at you other,
and you throw a punch at him. I mean, really,
you're arguing over stuff on the internet. You throw a punch.
You are not in control of your emotions, right, Like?
I like that. This is what my first reaction was man.
This is more embarrassing for at a bio than than
it is for Tyler hero even though heroes the guy.
We'll get to him in a second, because he doesn't
escape nearly unscathed, but the whole physical confrontation of it.

Just thinking about how this this this story is consumed
now and how what we think about it than what
we would think about it twenty some odd years ago,
where now, hey, it's not too much to ask guys
to be control of your emotions and not throw punches
when when something like this happens to you, guys are
disagreeing over something.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Well, but that's it. All those years ago, those stories
got buried because you didn't have access, you didn't have
social media, and people and people run into guys like Cham's.
The guys that were the beat reporters city to city.
They knew they got no access and the free meals
were all gonna be turned off if they said a word.
Whereas now it's like, eh, here you go go running
(08:49):
in and say, hey, there was an altercation. How much
of an altercation? It's like, what are you doing? I
don't know, Okay, that was an altercation. Yeah, you know
the security guard Hey, Stu, Yeah, what's going on? A
couple guys are fighting? Who is it?
Speaker 1 (09:01):
Well, it's a guy in a bucket hat and that
guy that scored eighty four points last year. Wait bam
mata bio and Tyler Harrow? Are you sure?
Speaker 3 (09:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (09:08):
I think those are the guys. I gotta get out
there and go, oh, it's over already, Okay, all right, Well,
I mean really, like, you know, I get you're arguing
about this or whatever is said back and forth, but
the guy I mean to throw a punch in a
situation like this, I mean, come on, man, Like, I
gotta say that. The stupidity angle of that is only
topped by the stupidity angle of Tyler Harrow, who decided

I'm gonna DM some random dude about my teammate and
about stuff going on, and I'm gonna dm. I mean, really,
I see this and I go, well, I don't understand
what goes through people's mind sometimes, like you're gonna DM
a guy, a total stranger that you don't know about
your teammate, And that's just insane to me. I can't

get people that have this addiction and think social media
is their friend and man, and this is not even
a guy that was saying, hey, I love your game,
You're awesome. This is the guy that he was out
of Hero was kind of feuding with right over the
course of the story, and you got, I'm dming this
guy my stuff about bamaa bio. You know, will you
talk about the scales of stupidity. It's like, yeah, okay,

BAM's here. But then wow, man, Tyler Hero, he's way
you can't even see how high up he is on
that well.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
But you get into gaming rooms or whatever, all of
a sudden, those are your buddies on the headset. Think
about I mean so many others. Blake Snow He's had
his issues in the the gaming rooms, right, I mean
all these guys. So yeah, it's not that far down
down the road to be like, you know, the enemy

what the friend of my enemy and all those kind
of things where you go through the paces and you
get the Spider Man meme when it's all said and done.
But yeah, Tyler Hero, I was surprised that bam Adebayo
and company didn't just figure out what the graphic would
be to show how weak he was defensively and just
put that up. I don't know that he's bottom ten

in the league, but he's gotta be pretty damn close.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
Yeah, sure, sure, sure right, So.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
I mean if you're Yannis and bam Annabay, you can
at least say we're tops on this list.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
Now, yeah, I mean we're number one. We're number one.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
But I mean you were watching what's the Tatiana Maslani.
I mean like you got people on the interwebs.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
Oh sure, yeah, to hell. You know, listen, just want
to tell you, as I learned from Maximum Pleasure, Guaranteed,
camboys are not your friends, just so you know, I
just had that Tatiana Muslani learned that lesson, and now
Tyler here is learning that random people want to do
you have a belt by teammate? Right? Like? Oh, what
what goes through your mind about stuff like that? Man? Seriously,

I can't. I can't understand the devotion and the sense
of responsibility or the just the non thinking of it
that people feel on social media where I can do
this like social media is your friend, it's not. It's
a social media and Twitter is a venus fly trap. Man,
Oh that smells so sweeten their there's nectar in there.
But boy, those look like really sharp leaves coming. Oh,
(12:08):
that's just decoration. They don't move or anything. It's a plant,
come on, and if it's a plant, it's gonna move
so slow. I'm getting get out of there. I'm not
worried about that. I'm going in there and getting that
nectar and suddenly oh wow, yeah, this is how it
enswered me. Okay, I'm the I'm the guy inside the whale.
I'm Jonah. Jonah was inside the whale, right, was it, Jonah? Yeah?
I just said, you know what with holding up that lantern,
going yeah, this is just not going well. This is now,
(12:30):
this is how it ends. This is you know, I
I don't understand that you think that I can I
can send direct message to a guy I don't even
know about my teammate that I live with, that I've
been a teammate with for the past seven or eight years.
And this is what this is not well, but this
is not after the trade. Is that this is before.
I don't understand. I don't get I really don't, man,

I really don't I and I don't know if I'm
alone on this, but but I feel like, you know,
obviously the younger generation and gen Z and and you know,
the real lower end of millennials, you know, grew up
with social media being prevalented in their lives. Like you know,
they like gen Z especially doesn't know a life without
social media. But still, I mean to I don't know

if I feel like, hey, I should be teaching lessons
on this or or just I mean, people just walk
into stuff like this blind and I go, this is
this is how you This is now what you're known
for because you decided to DM somebody who was then says, well,
I had to make sure this got out. You know,
people need to know this. This is news. Uh, you know,
because of that, this is what you're known for. Like everything,
Tyler Harro, forget about the bucket hat, forget.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
About the hat the guy with a good sweet jump shot,
and forget about six.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
Man of the Year and all that stuff and being
the main guy being traded for Giannis. No no, no,
no no, that's what you're known for, right, Jordan Pool,
what do you think about Jordan Poole Bam punch by
Draymond Green. That's that's what you think of, man, That's
what you think of.

He's a pretty good scorer too. He's an NBA champion,
but he's will always be the guy that got punched
in the face by Draymond and exiled.

I mean, but I really am thinking of this, Like,
you know, when when when when john Wick had the
bounty put out on him right in the in john
Wick and john Wick three and the john Wick four
when and they you know, they gave him till midnight
that all the hit men were coming after him. Like
I wonder, like if that, if we could do a
movie where now, you know, Tyler Herroll puts that thing
up about the mid range jumpers, and now slowly everybody

from ten all the way to one on that list
like approaches him in the next few days and there's
like some sort of confrontation or involvement, and we can
make a movie out of it, Like, no, make a
movie like that like five minutes if I if.

I type it in, yeah, I think it would. But
I think we could probably get someone to green lighted
for a limited series that goes eleven episodes, one to
set it up and the countdown and all of the
scenarios by by which they run into each other and
settle their beef, or maybe they don't, and maybe it
becomes the end like it's a nineteen sixty six Batman

movie or all the super villains are together for sure
and it's on a ship.

Oh, then it's like that scene in Karate Kid when
they're all beating him up in the skeleton constance. Is

take coming out of what we saw today in the
quarterfinal between Spain and Belgium, in which Spain escapes two
to one to move on to the semifinal against France,
the final numbers are out and I think I should
be an odds maker. I should be the guy that
sets the over underline in Vegas, because boy was I
right on it. Going into the USA Belgium game this week,

we had the previous high for most watched soccer game
earlier in this tournament, United States game was at twenty
six million viewers, and I said, this is probably gonna
double it. If you put the over under at fifty million,
I'll take the over. Well, the first numbers came in
for Fox thirty five thirty six million. That was really good.
And I remember talking about this with Alex Tyshert and

he was like, that's pretty good. Yeah, but more people
watched England Mexico. I go, yeah, but wait till all
the numbers come in and you tell me Telemundo and
everything else would still wind up going to be that.
The numbers have come in and now USA Belgium officially
the most watched soccer program in the history of the
United States at just over fifty million viewers. More people
(18:31):
watched that than watched England Mexico. It is the most
watched soccer game in the history of our country.
Speaker 3 (18:37):
Mike Carmen, that does not shock me with the number
of people that came on board as the groundswell, especially
when you can wrap all the numbers up into one
big pile. Well, we talk about the Telemundo numbers and
thinking about, you know, the largess of what Monday became
(19:00):
viewing parties, and the numbers have gotten better. It's something
we've talked about with Steve Disager for years, right, the
ability to corral this stuff and really get your arms
around it, as opposed to guessing based on a couple
of folks with a electronic device at their house or
filling out you know, the old books, the log books
(19:21):
of what did you watch this week? And were you
being truthful because you might have been watching you know,
some really bad infomercials late at night instead of the
comedy you were telling me you did. So, Yeah, it's
but it's great because you take those numbers going forward,
and it's good and bad for Fox because they've enjoyed
the groundswell of the monies and the hydration brakes and

everything else here. But it just means the price of
poker for the next iteration has gone through the roof.

So while everybody is stuck because we got to listen,
today should be a day you feel really good about
the United States and they're lost to Belgium. But first
we're gonna have the play of the day. And the

But this is why you should feel great about the
United States losing the Belgium.

Rebound. Look, well, here's the thing. Everybody knows it. It
was an awful goal, right, you got to be able
to corral that ball and not let the rebound just
pop right back out. However, this is Belgium's backup keeper
who comes into the game in the seventieth minute. He's
not had a lot of touches. He's not had a
lot of chances to get comfortable. Right, That's why you
(21:32):
warm up before a game. And but you know this
is a guy that hasn't played and suddenly go in
and it's not surprising that, hey, the first time he
touches the ball on a really big play something there
because he hasn't had the reps, doesn't feel warmed up,
doesn't feel comfortable. Instead of being able to corral the ball,
it kind of bounces around, it bounces right back out
and it's put right put right by him for the
(21:53):
game winning goal. Right, So it's it's an awful goal.
He's got to save it. But I understand why it happened.
I understand all that because of the situation that sucks
that you have to go in and there's no warm
up time and you're in there cold. Right, But think
about this, this was a game that was likely headed
to overtime. Maybe the penalties Belgium played Spain really tough.
(22:17):
Spain has had to escape in the last couple of
games with goals from subs that are coming into the
game and scoring in the eighty fifth minute or later. Right,
this is a Spain is like the Knicks of of soccer,
except they score way less points. But like this, they've
been able to They've had to escape because they're really
not scoring. Their best players are not putting the ball
(22:37):
in the net. I mean, we've heard so much about
this yet if I got to see the video of
Lionel Messi giving a bath again, but I mean they're
not scoring, right, They're doing a lot of talking for
a team that's barely putting the ball in the net.
But Spain is still a pretty good I mean, you
know how good. They're one of the top four teams
in the country. And Belgium might have been a backup
keeper in the game away from may be getting to
(23:00):
the semi finals. All of a sudden. Now you look
at this loss to Belgium and you go, well, we
really did it to ourselves in that game, right, We
really did it to ourselves on all three of those goals,
they were all preventable. They were not plays where Belgium
ran circles around us. They were all plays that Tim
reen was either directly or indirectly responsible for, that Matt
Freeze was directly or indirectly responsible for. So understand that
(23:24):
you look back now that you have a little bit
of distance between us and the game, and go, man,
we just had a bad game, right, because Belgium's really
good and if we if we come out, if we
come out like you should come out for World Cup,
and again we lost. Right, I'm not saying that all
these things are different, but we came out flat and
we played poorly. Right, As I said before the game
(23:44):
was even over, we picked a bad time to have
a bad game. That's not the team we saw the
first four games in the tournament, we just had a
bad game, And now now I can see there being
it's a it's a lot of overreaction to a game where, hey,
if we play a normal game, if we're not overwhelmed
by the moment, if if we come out with the
fire we're supposed to come out in the first five
minutes of a bleep and elimination game in the World Cup,
(24:06):
like we've done so far, we play better. But again,
like I said, the Golden Generation, that's been their problem
has been coming out flat for games, which is why
I'm done right, build around a couple of guys and
find better players who are more mentally focused and and
and that's what you need. You don't need. It's not
about talent. It's not about the academies. It's not about
getting guys that can dribble like you watch passing drills
(24:27):
with German academies. It's about being mentally tough. And those
are the guys you gotta find. And there's plenty of
guys like that, plenty of kids like that in the
United States. The Golden Generation has not been mentally tough,
and that's really what it was. So knowing all of
this and after seeing the result today, I think you
can end the week with a little bit of an
uptick of oh okay, So maybe it's not so bad
(24:50):
in the United States with soccer. Maybe we're not so
completely lost where we we threw up on ourselves in
a game against a team that looks like they're about
as good as the one of the top three or
four teams in the world. Like I honestly saw this
game today, Mike and said the loss looks a little
bit better in hindsight after today.

I'm glad you could take that approach because you ain't
get me on board with that because the physical and
we can argue where the gap is and all of that,
but when you come out and mentally that is what
you do each and every big tournament when there's a
step up in class, and that's the thing, right. It's
one thing to say, hey, we played down to an opponent.
(25:31):
I could hear that to a degree, but when you
have the chance to be that breakthrough when the country
is behind you to the level that you were when
you had the coach, right, because that's all we kept saying,
we've got the coach, We've got the mentality in the mindset,
and then we came out miserable and you have to
start from scratch. You got to start from scratch, right,
(25:54):
And that's thing Belgium for today's game. They didn't con see.
The goalie did a hell of a job over the
course of the game as best he could, right big
moments he goes out with an injury, second goalie comes in,
gives up that goal. I got to ask on the
defenders as well. You know, you got a fresh goalie
in there. You need to be crashing equally as hard
(26:17):
to where this guy can't walk in on the ball
as he did. But percentage of possession was decidedly the
Spanish squad and all the way through. So yeah, you
got beat by what was a pretty good team. So
you could take, I guess some comfort in that, but
it doesn't excuse the years of prep and run up
(26:40):
to this and the four games that you had prior
that suddenly got it evaporated in a matter of a
mere minute of game time, and then the ninety plus
of just eviscerating your soul.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
Yeah, I mean, look, I mean Belgium. Belgium was the
underdog coming into this game, not everybody can control possession, right, Like,
I think that that's the thing that that people don't get.
You see the possession and go, wow, this team is
dominating the game. Okay, And in absolute you're right, because
you have a better chance of scoring goals the more
you have the ball. You have a better chance of
not giving up goals the more you don't have.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
But we know how false that is based on you know,
the US possession in the game they got smoked.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
Yeah, look, I mean, but I mean because yeah, because
after Belgium got the lead, all of a sudden, you know,
we had the ball and Belgium sat back with it
with it with a one goal lead and the two
goal lead. But but understand that a lot of teams
are made to play without the ball. Hey, we understand
that this is how we're going to compete, and this
is what we're going to have to put on the
field and be okay with not having more than thirty
(27:38):
five percent possession. Now, it's it's a little bit you have.
You have a little bit more onus on bearing your
chances when you get them. But it's not like everybody
has one way to play, all right, So some teams, yeah,
I know we're not going to control the possession against Spain,
So how do we put this game out there where
we can potentially beat them? And you saw Belgium's able
to do that. There's no reason why the United States
can't do that. I mean really, it's it's really about
(28:00):
finding the mentally strong enough players. And that's I mean it.
That's something we can find. That's not about academies or
travel or club it's let's find that group. Because the
one common bond that they have all had, that the
Golden Generation and Polisic and all these other players have had,
is that they've come out flat and made mistakes in
(28:21):
games where they shouldn't. This shouldn't be something that happens.
And whether it was, and and and if you want
to blame the coaching, well, this happened with Klinsman at
the end of Cleinsman, it happened all through the burholter
E error. Now it happens with po Chattino. How many
coaches can you blame? Right? How many coaches can you
blame before you say, okay, the thing that was the
common bond and all this was the players. So if
if you look at it from that perspective. It really
(28:43):
shows you that, Okay, we're a little bit closer than
you think. I'm not saying suddenly in the next World
Cup gonna be a top five team in the world,
but maybe winning a game against Belgium with stronger players mentally, yeah, okay,
I mean I could see us winning that. Maybe we're
getting ready to play We're getting ready to play Spain today.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
I like you, Perry positive. I've seen too much. I've
seen too many of these lackluster efforts, and systemically there's
still a lot of problems there. Look the slap fighting
that's gone on in our larger media thing and the
growing thing of hey, that guy said something I don't like,
(29:20):
so let's just attack him and fight back and forth
and that'll be my content production for the day.

Good for you. But the idea that we're that close,
even physically to these squads, I still think there's a
bigger gap. But I like that you can take something
positive from Belgium because they did play even for a
long stretch of this game, and I'm sure plenty in
the attendance, what nearly seventy three thousand people there at

Los Angeles Stadium where the shuttle service to and from
was working exquisitely from what I understand. But yeah, the
takeaway is Spain moves on and let's see what they
can do in this next round.

to the Lake Tahoe Golf Tournament, as it does every year,
and you know, Dan gets the biggest people in sports
to come sit down with him fun conversations. Middle of

the summer, he was set to talk to Kathy Engelbert,
the commission of the WNBA today and right before the
show the interview got canceled. The WNBA pulled her from
the interview. And I thought it was really fun. How
when Dan's talking about her getting pulled that they are
are showing video of her on the golf course.
Speaker 3 (31:31):
That was pretty good. Yeah, pract stuff, Yeah, that was great.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
She's not here. And you know, Dan had a great
point when he said, listen, you want to be treated
as a serious league. This is what happens. These are
gonna be tough questions because obviously all the questions would
be about Caitlin Clark and going forward and her treatment.
But Dan said, look, this is a fair platform. I'll
treat you with respect. I completely get that, right, because
that's something I'm sure that you know, and as fans
(31:58):
would see that and go, yeah, Kathy, Anna, we're coming
on to talk about Kaitlyn Clark, Like you know, what,
what what What's gonna happen in these interviews. But the
thing is, I'm wondering if it's something more, I'll give
you a hot take on this. She's the commissioner of
the w NBA and her interview got canceled the commission
the com missioner had her interview canceled. Okay, Now, no
(32:24):
matter what, this is an interview that was already agreed upon, right,
it was agreed upon. They know what's going on. They
know she knows what the she knows the topics gonna be.
She would know what the topics would have been eight
months ago Kaylyn Clark in her treatment WNBA. What makes
sense here, because yes, Dan is known as one of
the best interviewers in sports. He's been doing it for
so long and he is. I'm gonna throw this out
(32:46):
there because this is what makes sense to me. She
has been absolutely invisible since this, the latest Caitlin Clark
treatment referees players in the league has really gotten to
the next level. She's been absolutely invisible. Why is that?
I wonder how much longer she has as WNBA commissioner.
(33:11):
I wonder if it's maybe And I'm just saying this, right,
I'm just saying what makes sense is that if you're
gonna tell me in a week they have a new
commissioner or they're starting the machinations and in a month
they're gonna have a new commissioner. I would say, Okay,
that's what would make sense. Why would you want Kathy
Engelbert talking if you're gonna replace it. You don't want
her talking for the league when you have somebody else
(33:32):
coming in. So maybe it's happening, maybe that, but that's
what would make sense. And I'm not saying I have
any inside knowledge on this, I'm just saying what would
make sense. And I see that she has been absolutely
missing an action when it comes to everything, and she's
gotta be a strong commissioner. She's gotta come out and
say things and say, look, this is how we're doing it.
You need strong leadership. Instead, it's absolutely nothing from her.
(33:53):
How is a commissioner say nothing? It makes sense if
she's not gonna be commissioner for that much longer, and
they're gonna wait and put their message out there. They
got through the collective bargaining, that's all that, all the
big business is done, and now they're gonna go get
their David Stern because that's really where the WNBA is
right now. There at the point where when magic and
(34:14):
Larry came into the league. What do we need? This
is the biggest thing the league has had happen to them.
How do we handle it? And they realize very quickly
we need a commissioner with foresight that can handle problems,
that can push the league forward. David Stern comes in
and he's on the mount rushmore commissioners all time because
he brought the NBA to where it continues to enjoy
a level of success. Right now, the WNBA needs their
David Stern. And I'm wondering if if that would make
(34:37):
sense that, Okay, this is what the search is out
there for right now, because they know what we have
right now isn't enough because it's not because again, being
invisible is not ot commissioner at this point, and it's
somebody else that's gonna come in that's gonna be there.
David Stern.
Speaker 3 (34:51):
Yeah, just a difficult look when you know Dan Patrick's
reputation history and not just because he's affiliate with us
and is our first thing in the morning go to,
is that you know the history and anybody that works
around the league office would know this. And for the
(35:15):
commissioner herself, she've been in she's the first League commissioner
twenty nineteen. All of that that, you've got all the
business wrapped up, and you've made no statements to all
of this. Right, you had the suspension of Ales Thomas.
Other than that, and based on what Alyssa Thomas had
to say about some of the threats and things, there
(35:38):
was a statement issued, But otherwise it's been radio silence,
like you've had every opportunity. I don't know if you're
waiting for the All Star Game, you're waiting for your
break and going to do a big media thing there.
But seems like you have an opportunity and you said yes.
So I'd love to know the reasons why you step
(36:00):
back from it. And I like the idea of hey,
passing the torch uh and moving into the next era
with all these extra business partners, the the different responsibilities
as the league has changed, evolved and grown. Perhaps that's
the other area they need and recognize the need and
this is their one of their partners, and you know,
(36:22):
one of their big patrons being the NBA and seeing
how their league evolved in parallel. So yeah, of course
then that would require Adam Silver to do something. Yes,
so well home on Adam Silver, doesn't We didn't need
to get that swipe right now. No, we did, because
I mean, if she's getting pressured to be out, wouldn't
(36:43):
the NBA be part of that pressuring?

A dude, The NIXT just won the title. He's thinking,
every this is the greatest the league has ever been.

is not without fireworks. As we found out today the
fight one punch fight. I guess it's kind of like
an octagon fight. I guess a one punch fight. Former
Heat teammates bam ade Bio and Tyler Herrow got into
a physical altercation in Vegas earlier today in which ada

Bio threw a punch and struck Tyler Herrow in the
head area of This was first reported by ESPN Shaans Gerania. Now,
why did this happen? Why is Tyler Hero trending? This
is not some random night in the middle of the
NBA season where he's got twenty five through three quarters, right.
Why guys like him and and and and Alex Caruso
trend all the time? Why are they trending? I can't
(02:47):
believe you, guy, Zach Levine. Why is Zach Lavine trending?
Apparently this goes back to the big trade that brought
Giannis in to the Miami Heat a week and a
half ago, where Tyler Hero shared a on social media
and social media is going to be the downfall of
Tyer Hero. On the story about players with the worst
mid range jumper conversion rates of the past year, Number
(03:10):
one on that list was Giannis. Number ten in the
list was maam At a Bio, his former teammate, who
we spent all kinds of time with, you know, Finals
team there in Miami a few years ago, and all
of a sudden, now okay, now they're not teammates anymore.
So if that was it, that would kind of be okay. Well,
he shared this a little bit of shade. You don't know,
is this kind of fun thing like usually the Knicks
(03:32):
like to do with each other or is this a
serious thing? It turned serious when, according to reports, a
fan that Tyler Hero had been dming with over the
course of the past few months, a guy who I
think he identified himself as this guy who lives in
Canada or something that he was talking smack about at
a Bio and the money that he that he's getting
and he shouldn't be getting sixty million dollars a year,
(03:55):
you know about, you know, for a guy that doesn't
play defense as often as he does. Basically there's a
big back and forth Hero saying stuff about at a
bio that you know is not flattering. The guy publishes
the dms, right, well, this is a story that's kind
of been in the periphery the last few days. Okay,
and at a bio confronted Tyler Herro at it earlier
today at a gym and walked up to him and
(04:17):
hit him once. Heroes got a little bit of a
tag under the eye and had to be broken up.
There was some stuff being yelled back and forth. And
now we have the great Miami Heat Milwaukee Bucks rivalry.
We didn't know we wanted Mike Harmon, but we're getting.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
It just because he said, you guys can't hit a
mid range jumper.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
You take you guys, what'd you guys fight over? He
took my girlfriend out on a date. What'd you guys
fight over? I stole my car and didn't tell me.
What'd you guys fight over? He made fun of my
mid range jump shot ability and that is not gonna happen. Man,
you do not cross that rubicon.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
He didn't show up at this basketball camp. He didn't.
I mean, there's a million other things, like he shared
a graphic that had some unflattering business. I e. It
exposed the fact that I can only score in the
low post.

Oh no, oh no.

I mean I'd like to think there were some other
transgressions in chaos that would get you to come to blows.
But uh hey, look if this gets people excited about
Summer League. I mean, we really haven't cared about Summer
League other than these stars, right, Caleb Wilson with a
big game. We talked about aj debonsa a little bit yesterday.
I mean, we haven't been this excited since Lonzo Ball
(05:29):
and his band of Merriman were taking over Summer League
a decade ago.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Yeah, I mean, really, this is we're gonna, We're gonna,
We're getting into this where now. I mean I think
that's just an easy thing, like oh yeah, okay, Lonzo
Ball's that LeVar Ball saying stuff about the Aaron Fox
and all. That's cool. Oh we need something a little
bit more, uh, a little bit more subtle, little bit more.
Twenty twenty six. Yeah, let's let's kick things off with
that mid range jump shot percentages list. Let's get now.

I gotta say, are all the guys in the top
ten now look at looking at Getty what Tyler hero
on this is it just Bama of bio or since
he's tenth, does he now have to watch out that
number nine? Number eight? And it's gonna end with the
honest right, Like, is he gonna watch out? Now? Is
this like you know, Billy Madison or something. I don't know, man,
I don't know. No, it's pretty much a hitless there's
no question about it. He's gonna go Jim to Jim
(06:16):
in the wee hours of the morning and he's gonna
find you.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
I mean, look what happens in Vegas. Was supposed to
stay in Vegas? Nope, jumps jumps. These guys don't like
each other, these former teammates at Beef. I mean, really
this this, I mean, nobody walked out with a black
eye or no.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
Tyler Harroll was doing interviews after Bam threw a punch
at me. Now here's the thing. So there's two big
takeaways from this, right, because this is just so silly.
Number one, And I was thinking about this because it
used to be. Right, you go back like twenty years
whatever it was if two people had a physical altercation
(07:00):
and you know, or I had an argument, whether it
was over you know, finances or mid range jump shot percentages.
The guy that threw the punch was always the guy
you walked away the winner, right, like, well, he threw
the punch, he was mad, and the other guy backed away,
and ah you you cowered away and he threw a punch.
You didn't throw a punch back. Oh yeah, that's the way.
You know, Bam, out of bios what he's the winner.
(07:22):
But I kind of like the fact that here we
are in twenty twenty six where when this happened today,
the first reaction I think everybody has and this shows
you I think that we're growing at least a little
bit as a nation. Is that Oh man, here's here's
a guy that couldn't control his emotions. And when years ago,
when when that would be something that would just get
(07:42):
swept under the rug. Here's something where now out of
bio's the guy that seems like, dude, what are you doing?
Speaker 3 (07:47):
Man?
Speaker 1 (07:47):
Really you're arguing over stuff you guys yell at you other,
and you throw a punch at him. I mean, really,
you're arguing over stuff on the internet. You throw a punch.
You are not in control of your emotions, right, Like?
I like that. This is what my first reaction was man.
This is more embarrassing for at a bio than than
it is for Tyler hero even though heroes the guy.
We'll get to him in a second, because he doesn't
escape nearly unscathed, but the whole physical confrontation of it.
(08:10):
Just thinking about how this this this story is consumed
now and how what we think about it than what
we would think about it twenty some odd years ago,
where now, hey, it's not too much to ask guys
to be control of your emotions and not throw punches
when when something like this happens to you, guys are
disagreeing over something.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Well, but that's it. All those years ago, those stories
got buried because you didn't have access, you didn't have
social media, and people and people run into guys like Cham's.
The guys that were the beat reporters city to city.
They knew they got no access and the free meals
were all gonna be turned off if they said a word.
Whereas now it's like, eh, here you go go running
(08:49):
in and say, hey, there was an altercation. How much
of an altercation? It's like, what are you doing? I
don't know, Okay, that was an altercation. Yeah, you know
the security guard Hey, Stu, Yeah, what's going on? A
couple guys are fighting? Who is it?
Speaker 1 (09:01):
Well, it's a guy in a bucket hat and that
guy that scored eighty four points last year. Wait bam
mata bio and Tyler Harrow? Are you sure?
Speaker 3 (09:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (09:08):
I think those are the guys. I gotta get out
there and go, oh, it's over already, Okay, all right, Well,
I mean really, like, you know, I get you're arguing
about this or whatever is said back and forth, but
the guy I mean to throw a punch in a
situation like this, I mean, come on, man, Like, I
gotta say that. The stupidity angle of that is only
topped by the stupidity angle of Tyler Harrow, who decided

I'm gonna DM some random dude about my teammate and
about stuff going on, and I'm gonna dm. I mean, really,
I see this and I go, well, I don't understand
what goes through people's mind sometimes, like you're gonna DM
a guy, a total stranger that you don't know about
your teammate, And that's just insane to me. I can't
(09:50):
get people that have this addiction and think social media
is their friend and man, and this is not even
a guy that was saying, hey, I love your game,
You're awesome. This is the guy that he was out
of Hero was kind of feuding with right over the
course of the story, and you got, I'm dming this
guy my stuff about bamaa bio. You know, will you
talk about the scales of stupidity. It's like, yeah, okay,
(10:12):
BAM's here. But then wow, man, Tyler Hero, he's way
you can't even see how high up he is on
that well.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
But you get into gaming rooms or whatever, all of
a sudden, those are your buddies on the headset. Think
about I mean so many others. Blake Snow He's had
his issues in the the gaming rooms, right, I mean
all these guys. So yeah, it's not that far down
down the road to be like, you know, the enemy
(10:38):
what the friend of my enemy and all those kind
of things where you go through the paces and you
get the Spider Man meme when it's all said and done.
But yeah, Tyler Hero, I was surprised that bam Adebayo
and company didn't just figure out what the graphic would
be to show how weak he was defensively and just
put that up. I don't know that he's bottom ten

in the league, but he's gotta be pretty damn close.

Yeah, sure, sure, sure right, So.

I mean if you're Yannis and bam Annabay, you can
at least say we're tops on this list.

Now, yeah, I mean we're number one. We're number one.

But I mean you were watching what's the Tatiana Maslani.
I mean like you got people on the interwebs.

Oh sure, yeah, to hell. You know, listen, just want
to tell you, as I learned from Maximum Pleasure, Guaranteed,

just had that Tatiana Muslani learned that lesson, and now
Tyler here is learning that random people want to do
you have a belt by teammate? Right? Like? Oh, what
what goes through your mind about stuff like that? Man? Seriously,

I can't. I can't understand the devotion and the sense
of responsibility or the just the non thinking of it
that people feel on social media where I can do
this like social media is your friend, it's not. It's
a social media and Twitter is a venus fly trap. Man,
Oh that smells so sweeten their there's nectar in there.
But boy, those look like really sharp leaves coming. Oh,

that's just decoration. They don't move or anything. It's a plant,
come on, and if it's a plant, it's gonna move
so slow. I'm getting get out of there. I'm not
worried about that. I'm going in there and getting that
nectar and suddenly oh wow, yeah, this is how it
enswered me. Okay, I'm the I'm the guy inside the whale.
I'm Jonah. Jonah was inside the whale, right, was it, Jonah? Yeah?
I just said, you know what with holding up that lantern,
going yeah, this is just not going well. This is now,

this is how it ends. This is you know, I
I don't understand that you think that I can I
can send direct message to a guy I don't even
know about my teammate that I live with, that I've
been a teammate with for the past seven or eight years.
And this is what this is not well, but this
is not after the trade. Is that this is before.
I don't understand. I don't get I really don't, man,

I really don't I and I don't know if I'm
alone on this, but but I feel like, you know,
obviously the younger generation and gen Z and and you know,
the real lower end of millennials, you know, grew up
with social media being prevalented in their lives. Like you know,
they like gen Z especially doesn't know a life without
social media. But still, I mean to I don't know

if I feel like, hey, I should be teaching lessons
on this or or just I mean, people just walk
into stuff like this blind and I go, this is
this is how you This is now what you're known
for because you decided to DM somebody who was then says, well,
I had to make sure this got out. You know,
people need to know this. This is news. Uh, you know,
because of that, this is what you're known for. Like everything,
Tyler Harro, forget about the bucket hat, forget.

About the hat the guy with a good sweet jump shot,
and forget about six.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
Man of the Year and all that stuff and being
the main guy being traded for Giannis. No no, no,
no no, that's what you're known for, right, Jordan Pool,
what do you think about Jordan Poole Bam punch by
Draymond Green. That's that's what you think of, man, That's
what you think of.

He's a pretty good scorer too. He's an NBA champion,
but he's will always be the guy that got punched
in the face by Draymond and exiled.

I mean, but I really am thinking of this, Like,
you know, when when when when john Wick had the

when and they you know, they gave him till midnight
that all the hit men were coming after him. Like

take coming out of what we saw today in the
quarterfinal between Spain and Belgium, in which Spain escapes two
to one to move on to the semifinal against France,
the final numbers are out and I think I should
be an odds maker. I should be the guy that
sets the over underline in Vegas, because boy was I
right on it. Going into the USA Belgium game this week,
(17:47):
we had the previous high for most watched soccer game
earlier in this tournament, United States game was at twenty
six million viewers, and I said, this is probably gonna
double it. If you put the over under at fifty million,
I'll take the over. Well, the first numbers came in
for Fox thirty five thirty six million. That was really good.
And I remember talking about this with Alex Tyshert and
(18:08):
he was like, that's pretty good. Yeah, but more people
watched England Mexico. I go, yeah, but wait till all
the numbers come in and you tell me Telemundo and
everything else would still wind up going to be that.
The numbers have come in and now USA Belgium officially
the most watched soccer program in the history of the
United States at just over fifty million viewers. More people
(18:31):
watched that than watched England Mexico. It is the most
watched soccer game in the history of our country.
Speaker 3 (18:37):
Mike Carmen, that does not shock me with the number
of people that came on board as the groundswell, especially
when you can wrap all the numbers up into one
big pile. Well, we talk about the Telemundo numbers and
thinking about, you know, the largess of what Monday became
(19:00):
viewing parties, and the numbers have gotten better. It's something
we've talked about with Steve Disager for years, right, the
ability to corral this stuff and really get your arms
around it, as opposed to guessing based on a couple
of folks with a electronic device at their house or
filling out you know, the old books, the log books
(19:21):
of what did you watch this week? And were you
being truthful because you might have been watching you know,
some really bad infomercials late at night instead of the
comedy you were telling me you did. So, Yeah, it's
but it's great because you take those numbers going forward,
and it's good and bad for Fox because they've enjoyed
the groundswell of the monies and the hydration brakes and
(19:46):
everything else here. But it just means the price of
poker for the next iteration has gone through the roof.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
So while everybody is stuck because we got to listen,
today should be a day you feel really good about
the United States and they're lost to Belgium. But first
we're gonna have the play of the day. And the

I just know it's coming now anticipation of tomorrow's big.

But this is why you should feel great about the
United States losing the Belgium.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
Someone else has a goalie that can't.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
Rebound. Look, well, here's the thing. Everybody knows it. It
was an awful goal, right, you got to be able
to corral that ball and not let the rebound just
pop right back out. However, this is Belgium's backup keeper
who comes into the game in the seventieth minute. He's
not had a lot of touches. He's not had a
lot of chances to get comfortable. Right, That's why you
(21:32):
warm up before a game. And but you know this
is a guy that hasn't played and suddenly go in
and it's not surprising that, hey, the first time he
touches the ball on a really big play something there
because he hasn't had the reps, doesn't feel warmed up,
doesn't feel comfortable. Instead of being able to corral the ball,
it kind of bounces around, it bounces right back out
and it's put right put right by him for the
(21:53):
game winning goal. Right, So it's it's an awful goal.
He's got to save it. But I understand why it happened.
I understand all that because of the situation that sucks
that you have to go in and there's no warm
up time and you're in there cold. Right, But think
about this, this was a game that was likely headed
to overtime. Maybe the penalties Belgium played Spain really tough.
(22:17):
Spain has had to escape in the last couple of
games with goals from subs that are coming into the
game and scoring in the eighty fifth minute or later. Right,
this is a Spain is like the Knicks of of soccer,
except they score way less points. But like this, they've
been able to They've had to escape because they're really
not scoring. Their best players are not putting the ball
(22:37):
in the net. I mean, we've heard so much about
this yet if I got to see the video of
Lionel Messi giving a bath again, but I mean they're
not scoring, right, They're doing a lot of talking for
a team that's barely putting the ball in the net.
But Spain is still a pretty good I mean, you
know how good. They're one of the top four teams
in the country. And Belgium might have been a backup
keeper in the game away from may be getting to
(23:00):
the semi finals. All of a sudden. Now you look
at this loss to Belgium and you go, well, we
really did it to ourselves in that game, right, We
really did it to ourselves on all three of those goals,
they were all preventable. They were not plays where Belgium
ran circles around us. They were all plays that Tim
reen was either directly or indirectly responsible for, that Matt
Freeze was directly or indirectly responsible for. So understand that
(23:24):
you look back now that you have a little bit
of distance between us and the game, and go, man,
we just had a bad game, right, because Belgium's really
good and if we if we come out, if we
come out like you should come out for World Cup,
and again we lost. Right, I'm not saying that all
these things are different, but we came out flat and
we played poorly. Right, As I said before the game
(23:44):
was even over, we picked a bad time to have
a bad game. That's not the team we saw the
first four games in the tournament, we just had a
bad game, And now now I can see there being
it's a it's a lot of overreaction to a game where, hey,
if we play a normal game, if we're not overwhelmed
by the moment, if if we come out with the
fire we're supposed to come out in the first five
minutes of a bleep and elimination game in the World Cup,
(24:06):
like we've done so far, we play better. But again,
like I said, the Golden Generation, that's been their problem
has been coming out flat for games, which is why
I'm done right, build around a couple of guys and
find better players who are more mentally focused and and
and that's what you need. You don't need. It's not
about talent. It's not about the academies. It's not about
getting guys that can dribble like you watch passing drills
(24:27):
with German academies. It's about being mentally tough. And those
are the guys you gotta find. And there's plenty of
guys like that, plenty of kids like that in the
United States. The Golden Generation has not been mentally tough,
and that's really what it was. So knowing all of
this and after seeing the result today, I think you
can end the week with a little bit of an
uptick of oh okay, So maybe it's not so bad
(24:50):
in the United States with soccer. Maybe we're not so
completely lost where we we threw up on ourselves in
a game against a team that looks like they're about
as good as the one of the top three or
four teams in the world. Like I honestly saw this
game today, Mike and said the loss looks a little
bit better in hindsight after today.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
I'm glad you could take that approach because you ain't
get me on board with that because the physical and
we can argue where the gap is and all of that,
but when you come out and mentally that is what
you do each and every big tournament when there's a
step up in class, and that's the thing, right. It's
one thing to say, hey, we played down to an opponent.
(25:31):
I could hear that to a degree, but when you
have the chance to be that breakthrough when the country
is behind you to the level that you were when
you had the coach, right, because that's all we kept saying,
we've got the coach, We've got the mentality in the mindset,
and then we came out miserable and you have to
start from scratch. You got to start from scratch, right,
(25:54):
And that's thing Belgium for today's game. They didn't con see.
The goalie did a hell of a job over the
course of the game as best he could, right big
moments he goes out with an injury, second goalie comes in,
gives up that goal. I got to ask on the
defenders as well. You know, you got a fresh goalie
in there. You need to be crashing equally as hard
(26:17):
to where this guy can't walk in on the ball
as he did. But percentage of possession was decidedly the
Spanish squad and all the way through. So yeah, you
got beat by what was a pretty good team. So
you could take, I guess some comfort in that, but
it doesn't excuse the years of prep and run up
(26:40):
to this and the four games that you had prior
that suddenly got it evaporated in a matter of a
mere minute of game time, and then the ninety plus
of just eviscerating your soul.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
Yeah, I mean, look, I mean Belgium. Belgium was the
underdog coming into this game, not everybody can control possession, right, Like,
I think that that's the thing that that people don't get.
You see the possession and go, wow, this team is
dominating the game. Okay, And in absolute you're right, because
you have a better chance of scoring goals the more
you have the ball. You have a better chance of
not giving up goals the more you don't have.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
But we know how false that is based on you know,
the US possession in the game they got smoked.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
Yeah, look, I mean, but I mean because yeah, because
after Belgium got the lead, all of a sudden, you know,
we had the ball and Belgium sat back with it
with it with a one goal lead and the two
goal lead. But but understand that a lot of teams
are made to play without the ball. Hey, we understand
that this is how we're going to compete, and this
is what we're going to have to put on the
field and be okay with not having more than thirty
(27:38):
five percent possession. Now, it's it's a little bit you have.
You have a little bit more onus on bearing your
chances when you get them. But it's not like everybody
has one way to play, all right, So some teams, yeah,
I know we're not going to control the possession against Spain,
So how do we put this game out there where
we can potentially beat them? And you saw Belgium's able
to do that. There's no reason why the United States
can't do that. I mean really, it's it's really about
(28:00):
finding the mentally strong enough players. And that's I mean it.
That's something we can find. That's not about academies or
travel or club it's let's find that group. Because the
one common bond that they have all had, that the
Golden Generation and Polisic and all these other players have had,
is that they've come out flat and made mistakes in
(28:21):
games where they shouldn't. This shouldn't be something that happens.
And whether it was, and and and if you want
to blame the coaching, well, this happened with Klinsman at
the end of Cleinsman, it happened all through the burholter
E error. Now it happens with po Chattino. How many
coaches can you blame? Right? How many coaches can you
blame before you say, okay, the thing that was the
common bond and all this was the players. So if
if you look at it from that perspective. It really
(28:43):
shows you that, Okay, we're a little bit closer than
you think. I'm not saying suddenly in the next World
Cup gonna be a top five team in the world,
but maybe winning a game against Belgium with stronger players mentally, yeah, okay,
I mean I could see us winning that. Maybe we're
getting ready to play We're getting ready to play Spain today.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
I like you, Perry positive. I've seen too much. I've
seen too many of these lackluster efforts, and systemically there's
still a lot of problems there. Look the slap fighting
that's gone on in our larger media thing and the
growing thing of hey, that guy said something I don't like,
(29:20):
so let's just attack him and fight back and forth
and that'll be my content production for the day.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
Good.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
Good for you. But the idea that we're that close,
even physically to these squads, I still think there's a
bigger gap. But I like that you can take something
positive from Belgium because they did play even for a
long stretch of this game, and I'm sure plenty in
the attendance, what nearly seventy three thousand people there at
(29:47):
Los Angeles Stadium where the shuttle service to and from
was working exquisitely from what I understand. But yeah, the
takeaway is Spain moves on and let's see what they
can do in this next round.

but here we are. Mike Carmon, Happy Friday. One of
the big stories today. Look, The Dan Patrick Show goes
to the Lake Tahoe Golf Tournament, as it does every year,
and you know, Dan gets the biggest people in sports
to come sit down with him fun conversations. Middle of
(31:11):
the summer, he was set to talk to Kathy Engelbert,
the commission of the WNBA today and right before the
show the interview got canceled. The WNBA pulled her from
the interview. And I thought it was really fun. How
when Dan's talking about her getting pulled that they are
are showing video of her on the golf course.
Speaker 3 (31:31):
That was pretty good. Yeah, pract stuff, Yeah, that was great.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
She's not here. And you know, Dan had a great
point when he said, listen, you want to be treated
as a serious league. This is what happens. These are
gonna be tough questions because obviously all the questions would
be about Caitlin Clark and going forward and her treatment.
But Dan said, look, this is a fair platform. I'll
treat you with respect. I completely get that, right, because
that's something I'm sure that you know, and as fans
(31:58):
would see that and go, yeah, Kathy, Anna, we're coming
on to talk about Kaitlyn Clark, Like you know, what,
what what What's gonna happen in these interviews. But the
thing is, I'm wondering if it's something more, I'll give
you a hot take on this. She's the commissioner of
the w NBA and her interview got canceled the commission
the com missioner had her interview canceled. Okay, Now, no
(32:24):
matter what, this is an interview that was already agreed upon, right,
it was agreed upon. They know what's going on. They
know she knows what the she knows the topics gonna be.
She would know what the topics would have been eight
months ago Kaylyn Clark in her treatment WNBA. What makes
sense here, because yes, Dan is known as one of
the best interviewers in sports. He's been doing it for
so long and he is. I'm gonna throw this out
(32:46):
there because this is what makes sense to me. She
has been absolutely invisible since this, the latest Caitlin Clark
treatment referees players in the league has really gotten to
the next level. She's been absolutely invisible. Why is that?
I wonder how much longer she has as WNBA commissioner.
(33:11):
I wonder if it's maybe And I'm just saying this, right,
I'm just saying what makes sense is that if you're
gonna tell me in a week they have a new
commissioner or they're starting the machinations and in a month
they're gonna have a new commissioner. I would say, Okay,
that's what would make sense. Why would you want Kathy
Engelbert talking if you're gonna replace it. You don't want
her talking for the league when you have somebody else
(33:32):
coming in. So maybe it's happening, maybe that, but that's
what would make sense. And I'm not saying I have
any inside knowledge on this, I'm just saying what would
make sense. And I see that she has been absolutely
missing an action when it comes to everything, and she's
gotta be a strong commissioner. She's gotta come out and
say things and say, look, this is how we're doing it.
You need strong leadership. Instead, it's absolutely nothing from her.
(33:53):
How is a commissioner say nothing? It makes sense if
she's not gonna be commissioner for that much longer, and
they're gonna wait and put their message out there. They
got through the collective bargaining, that's all that, all the
big business is done, and now they're gonna go get
their David Stern because that's really where the WNBA is
right now. There at the point where when magic and
(34:14):
Larry came into the league. What do we need? This
is the biggest thing the league has had happen to them.
How do we handle it? And they realize very quickly
we need a commissioner with foresight that can handle problems,
that can push the league forward. David Stern comes in
and he's on the mount rushmore commissioners all time because
he brought the NBA to where it continues to enjoy
a level of success. Right now, the WNBA needs their
David Stern. And I'm wondering if if that would make
(34:37):
sense that, Okay, this is what the search is out
there for right now, because they know what we have
right now isn't enough because it's not because again, being
invisible is not ot commissioner at this point, and it's
somebody else that's gonna come in that's gonna be there.
David Stern.
Speaker 3 (34:51):
Yeah, just a difficult look when you know Dan Patrick's
reputation history and not just because he's affiliate with us
and is our first thing in the morning go to,
is that you know the history and anybody that works
around the league office would know this. And for the
(35:15):
commissioner herself, she've been in she's the first League commissioner
twenty nineteen. All of that that, you've got all the
business wrapped up, and you've made no statements to all
of this. Right, you had the suspension of Ales Thomas.
Other than that, and based on what Alyssa Thomas had
to say about some of the threats and things, there
(35:38):
was a statement issued, But otherwise it's been radio silence,
like you've had every opportunity. I don't know if you're
waiting for the All Star Game, you're waiting for your
break and going to do a big media thing there.
But seems like you have an opportunity and you said yes.
So I'd love to know the reasons why you step
(36:00):
back from it. And I like the idea of hey,
passing the torch uh and moving into the next era
with all these extra business partners, the the different responsibilities
as the league has changed, evolved and grown. Perhaps that's
the other area they need and recognize the need and
this is their one of their partners, and you know,
(36:22):
one of their big patrons being the NBA and seeing
how their league evolved in parallel. So yeah, of course
then that would require Adam Silver to do something. Yes,
so well home on Adam Silver, doesn't We didn't need
to get that swipe right now. No, we did, because
I mean, if she's getting pressured to be out, wouldn't
(36:43):
the NBA be part of that pressuring?

A dude, The NIXT just won the title. He's thinking,
every this is the greatest the league has ever been.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
Come on, so maybe now he's feeling chesty.
