Speaker 1 (00:29):
Greetings, Welcome in side. Happy Wednesday Jason Smith Show with
my base friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Now let's go as we are.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
On a day after the All Star Game, waiting for
the second half begin Tomorrow night. The Phillies have a
junior varsity scrimmage scheduled with the New York Too soon,
Too soon to kick?

Speaker 3 (00:52):
What are you doing?

Speaker 4 (00:52):
I mean, you're gonna try to hype up the Nets
are gonna.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
Show up at a fast great.

Speaker 4 (01:01):
Oh here, Karl Anthony Towns made friends with Dan Housen.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
It acknowledged him.

Speaker 4 (01:06):
Great, trying to show me that the Mets matter for
a only game.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
It's I didn't say. I said it was a JV
game against It's the only game. It's the only game.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
I'll go down to the blacktop here in Santa Monica
and go watch some basketball before I'll sit and watch that.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Yeah, Fox Sports Radio, Jason and Mike Hey trained to
push past the pay. Not athletes, just people trafficked every
day right here in the United States, sometimes by someone
they trusted. During the World Cup, help us break the silence.
Visit Blue campaign dot gov slash World Cup. That's Blue
Campaign dot gov slash World Cup to learn more. And yes,

(01:43):
the World Cup is where we begins today and there
is no real better place to start. Let's start with
start with a bank, right, Let's start with the bank.
Let's give you the play of the day. And I
knew when this happened, I said, Man, I can't wait
to see what this sounds like. On Telemundo Argentina, once
again proving that the New York Knicks don't own a

(02:03):
patent on big crazy comebacks. At the end of games.
They score two in the final moments to eliminate England
and move on to the World Cup Final, where we're
gonna get pictures of Messi bathing Jamal for the next
five days. Whether you want to or not, that's gonna
be everywhere. Man twoed on people's backs all over glob really.

(02:24):
I mean, I mean, you know, I look at that
picture and now I think what other stars has Messi
hidden his corse cruxes in? Is it just Jamal? Is
it Bape? Where do you have to go if you're
really gonna slay Messi on Sunday? Do you have to
find where all the other Horkruxes are? It's not Jamal
might be the final Horkcrux, like Harry was the final Horkrux,
but there may be other people. If he's drive, if

(02:46):
he comes the game with a big snake next to him,
there's something up my carbon.

Speaker 4 (02:49):
Someone say we could see if he's got like a
signature on his forehead like Harry Potter. But there's been
a lot of questions of authenticity, of whether he's got
a ball boy that signs a bunch of his autographs.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
So I can't even do it that way.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Come Polisic, it's time to keep you safe.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
It's not taking him off the pitch for a half.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
I mean, well, he wouldn't be saying he wouldn't get hurt.
We know that you would not get hurt if that happened.
But yes, we got big stuff coming up here. But
the Play of the Day is brought to by tire Rack.
For over forty years, Tirerack's been helping customers find the
right tires for how, what and where they drive. Shipped
fast and free, backed by free road hazard protection with
convenient installation options like mobile tire installation. Tirerack dot comy

(03:33):
is the way tire buying should be. Well, you want
Martinez's goal with a minute long goal call from Andre's
canter on Telemundo. You got it messy and gonn tip
you don't.

Speaker 5 (04:20):
Go Catino BOSSI tends the other nail it yaas dot.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
There it is in all its glory on Telemundo your
play of the day, Martinez's goal. Look. A substitute who
came in said he had a dream right that I
scored the game winner, and that you know, Fernandez, you
were going to score the first one, and you were there,
and you were there, and you were a scarecrow and
you were then I was gonna score the game winner.
That is your game winning goal. And I gotta tell

(05:04):
you there is no more scarier, more nerve racking time
in sports than if you are a fan of the
opposing team and you hear andres kantor shout messy like no, no, no,
it's going in the no no, no, what he does
that like, you know it's going in that. He gives
you that messy like it's just gonna be in the
back of the bet and we're gonna lose. And that's

(05:25):
exactly what that sounded like.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
This is gonna end badly for us. He took four
or five breaths during that. So, I mean, you know
he's older now, man, he's in his sixties. You know,
got it, got on the cardio and got it John.
I mean, but I can't do it. I can't even
pretend to the fact that his voice holds up reasonably
well through all of that even more impressive.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Man, Yeah, you know, a full minute.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
We got to see how long he does his longest
one for and then see if we can beat it. Well,
I don't know, we have we have Sunday, right yeah, no, no, no,
I mean, well we have the rest of the week
to do that. I mean, but I we gotta do that,
see if we can beat on because I know that
I could have beat him back in the nineties when
he first came around, right, Like, I mean, come on,
like I remember when he used to be on Letterman
after like the ninety four World Cup, when he became

(06:08):
this big star because he all the goal calls. That's
when Andre's Canter became this big global legend, and David
Letterman would just bring him out like for a couple
of shows, like for a random time. Go before we
introduce our next guest. Here's Andre's cantor to announce a goal,
and everybody claps. He comes out and holds his hand
over his ear and he gives you a fake goal
call and just yells goal. The audience goes crazy and

(06:29):
he just walks off stage like that. That's brilliant. That
is just brilliant.

Speaker 4 (06:33):
Unpopular opinion. After thirty seconds, you can gap it for me.
Oh come on, His voice starts, you.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
Did you bet England? I told you not to bet.
I sound like you bet England even met the over.
I think you bet England's bitter and upset man, No,
not bitter and upset at all, and just say a
little bit like I'm happy for him.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
Yeah cause the claim and that's great.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
My favorite call of the game was there was a
point where Messi had the ball and tried to go
between two guys and you know my rudimentary, uh elemental
Spanish understanding, I got context.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
I'm good.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
And then he says the word sandwich in the middle
of all of it. MESSI sandwich, And then back here.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
If you're paying attention? Is anybody really paying attention? What
if I just say sandwich in the middle for no reason? Yeah,
go ahead, just say it? Why not?

Speaker 4 (07:26):
I felt like I was going to open an app
and order order lunch, but I didn't. I was able
to give myself great restraint.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
Frio sandwich. No, Like, you know, just say a whole
bunch of things in Spanish and throw sandwich in the
I would get me.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
I turned around, Afe you said, so, it's a Pavlovian response.
There's no question about it.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
Like you could say a lot of things, man, And
I'm just gonna sit back and go yeah whatever, I'm
really not paying attention. Oh say you said sandwich, sandwich?
I like Joey and Friends. Is that a sandwich? Is
that a sandwich? It's we got sandwiches? Is there swich
my sandwich. Now I'm gonna say this, and I'm gonna
upset a lot of people, and I'm going to make

(08:07):
a lot of people nod their head and they're gonna go.
But you really, you can't ignore what I'm gonna say
coming off of this game. England blows this lead late, right,
a completely, a complete disruption of their play. They decide
to protect a one nothing lead in the final moments. Look,

(08:29):
goal scorer comes off, right, Anthony Gordon comes off. They
try to go defensively to try to hold off Argentina
and win the World Cup. Right, this is Thomas Tuckle.
This was his strategy here going in. And what happens.
Argentina absolutely overwhelms England and scores two goals in the
last few minutes and wins the game. Now, I don't know.

(08:51):
I'm not coaching the game. I'm watching it from three
thousand miles away, and I know, do you really think
you can stop Argentina's onslaught when you are okay and
you invite pressure in, Like I mean, we just watched
a game against Egypt, right, we watched that game. We
saw what happened when you decided, hey, we're up two goals,
we're just gonna go into a defensive shell and put
eleven guys behind the ball, which is exactly what Tuckle did.

(09:12):
Like You're not gonna Argentina's offense is too good. You
were playing terrific, and you decided, let me really start
to overthink this and and really try to coach the
hell out of this when you just saw what happens
when go defensive and you go and do a shell.
Argentina's pressure is relentless. I'm not surprised they scored two goals.

(09:33):
They had They had way more time to do it here.
I thought they could get four goals. Yeah, the last
ten minutes against even just last twenty minutes, like what
are you doing? And especially had two of Argentina's top
offensive players were on yellow cards, Like what do you do?
We've seen this movie, You've seen what Argentina does late,
and you still decide, let's go do this. Let's make
this incredibly bad tactical error in the final minutes of

(09:55):
the semi final of the World Cup. Right, So I
say that, and I say this again, I'm gonna have
to ducks. People are gonna swing at me. Understand, the
United States problems in soccer aren't as bad as you
think they are. Look at all of these teams that
were supposed to go to the final and win the
World Cup. England's got all kinds of questions their head coach,

(10:18):
their strategy. They completely biffed it and they melted down
in the final fifteen minutes or twenty minutes of the
of the semifinal game. Right, England's got problems. Man France,
they Inmbape. I can't believe he hasn't named himself the coach.
He was upset with how the team played. They played
flat in their semi final yesterday. They were terrible. Their
best players were not good. They played nervous. And this

(10:40):
is a team that was rolling through the World Cup Norway.
And as much as we say about Earling Holland, the
guy just said, yeah, I'm coming off the field. It's
it's it's are you kidding? We're gear ready to go
to penalty. It's tied, it's the one hundred and fifth minute. Yeah,
I can't do it anymore. Well, are you okay? Now?
I'm just gonna sit. I'm just gonna say I can't
do it. What do you mean you can't do it?
What do you mean you can't play? You are the
guy that's getting us here and Brazil they fall apart

(11:02):
every single World Cup way before you think Brazil is
gonna fall out of things. When you look at all
the totality of all these best teams in the world,
and you see that the United States had a bad game.
They had one day, had a bad game after having
a really good tournament, and all the mistakes we made,
all the goals in the back, and then against Belgium

(11:22):
they were all our fault. This doesn't mean that the
United States doesn't need some kind of change, But it
doesn't mean break it all up and start over again
and go all the way back to the beginning and
get rid of you know, put all new youth leagues in,
get new coaches. I mean it. More evidence goes on.
You see the best teams in the World Cup don't
know how to handle situations so sudden. Yes, when it

(11:44):
happened in the United States lost a while, they came
out flat. How terrible is that? Boy, that's inexcusable. Other
teams don't do that in the World Cup. Ah, yes
they do. Yeah, I just watch England do it? Just
watch France? Do it? Just watch Norway? Do it? Just
watch Brazil do it? I watch them all do it?
They all did. These are the top five six to
seven teams in the These are two of the these
are four or five of the top seven teams of
the country in the world. That's how it goes. So, yes,

(12:07):
there's nothing more than just natural change for the United States.
We won our group, we made it to the knockout round.
We want a knockout round game. We had a bad
game and we have to adjust off of that. But
to think that all of a sudden, the United States
is just oh, we're on an island with all our problems. No,
everybody else has them too. We can go a little
bit lighter on the criticism and just get that, Okay,

(12:27):
it's about evolving and getting to what's next and building
on what we have now rather than just oh, I've
seen this movie a million times before, break it down,
start over.

Speaker 4 (12:35):
Well, it's like everything else. We talk about how miserable
everything is, and that we look.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
Around and say, well, the rest of the world they
ate so great.

Speaker 4 (12:42):
Right, So yeah, when we look at this particular game, right,
going into a prevent defense against this squad, bad job,
great aggressiveness early on, Harry Kane on the side of
a milk carton wasn't involved in a whole bunch. The
fact that our Argentina in theory, as you go back
through the Subruta film, should have been playing with ten

(13:04):
men for the entirety of the game after a third
minute punched to the back of the head by the
guy that eventually scored the equalizer.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
How about that.

Speaker 4 (13:13):
If you want to go deep deep dive there for you, Fernandez,
go look it up. You can find the video everywhere
it's rolled through. And then Messi steps on the guy's
foot before retreating to the ball before just one of
the great killer crosses that we've seen. I do like
the fact that you are really just becoming Captain America.
Here you are dressing up like Ddrich Bader in Napoleon Dynamite.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
This week, I wish I could get a pair of
those pants. Would We could probably get you one by
the end of the weekend. If I go down to
Venice Beach, I bet you I could find him, even
if I have a guy.

Speaker 3 (13:47):
Him off, a guy walking down the boulevard.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
You think someone's gonna come after you when I'm wearing
these bad boys, Come on, That's.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
What I mean.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
We could go find that friend of mine.

Speaker 4 (13:56):
In the larger Twitter verse kind of thing we've had
some great back and forth about his role as batman
and of course me forever trying to get American Housewife
another season.

Speaker 3 (14:06):
But all of that for England. Yeah yeah, you saw
the papers right.

Speaker 4 (14:12):
Everything about Harry Kane and calling him out, and certainly
coach say, well, you only blame my strategy because we lost. Like, yeah, coach,
that's usually how it works if in the end you
fail and melt down horribly. It happens in the knockout round.
Goals by Argentina before the seventy ninth minute, two goals

(14:35):
after the seventy ninth minute. Want to guess how big
that number is? Oh yeah, forty seven goals after the
seventh that's pretty good, fuzzy math. But number nine, number nine, Yeah,
that's it. Nine goals after seventy ninth minute. So you
might have looked into your scouting reports and kind of scene.
As long as that little guy still around and working

(14:55):
on the on the ball, you're in trouble.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
Period.

Speaker 1 (14:58):
If I thought for a second and it's like people
forget that this is how the World Cup went, like
like it's like I think people have that fuzzy memory
now like going, wait, the memories changed. It's a science
fiction movie. Yeah, we played terrible. No, we played great
in the In group play, we played terrific. In group play.
We had one of the top offenses in all the world,
but we're better played top We played a great game

(15:22):
to get to the sixty. We're a top fifteen team
and we're looking to get in the top ten, which
puts US in position to win the World Cup. That's
not impossible. It's it's it's it's we weren't at the
place where it's all melted down, you know, tear it
down and start over. I get that we thought we
were there, and people thought they were after the game
against Belgium, because there were expectations and and and we
expected things, and mentally the team wasn't there. I'm not

(15:43):
saying they didn't throw up on themselves. They did, But
it's not like those problems are just isolated to us.
I mean, look, I mean again, England and France and
Norway and Brazil are gonna say they're gonna be talking
about this World Cup and ruining their chances. Are are
we going forward? Do we have the right players, do
we have the right coach? Like all of these problems
are still gonna happen, man. I mean, it's not like

(16:05):
we're alone with this. So get that. Hey, we're a
top fifteen team. We're looking to move up into the
top ten. And it's not like, hey, I'm seeing every
four years we're playing a little bit worse, a little
bit worse. We did things we haven't normally done in
this World Cup, right, So get that when you see
the best teams in the world do this that, Oh,
maybe we're not as bad off as you think we are.

(16:25):
I mean that's not saying you don't need more, right,
But what do I say, Baaligan and Tillman and Freeman.
You build around those guys them and everything else is open,
right because the Golden Generation hasn't come through it we expect.
But okay, it's normal evolving of what is next. Keep Poachattino, right,
give him whatever you need to. He got the team
in the right spot. Look at where they were. Yeah,

(16:46):
I get that we were all disappointed. But when you
look at the results of this World Cup and you
take everything into account, yeah, oh, all of a suddenly
maybe it's not as bad as we thought it was.

Speaker 4 (16:56):
If we work really hard, maybe people will fall back
into us. Look as we always do TV movies music.
I'll give you a quote from a legend to really
make this punctuate the statement. Quote, always going to be
an uphill battle. Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose. Ain't
about how fast I get there. It's all about it.

(17:17):
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side. It's the climb.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
That's right. Miley cyrus everybody.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
That's oh there you go, way to go, man. You
throw in some Miley races. Yea very good. And you
read that very I was very dramatic. Well, I mean
that it's dramatic.

Speaker 4 (17:33):
I mean it's really a song that when I'm on
a run or or on a workout, I mean, and
it comes on, it pushes you through that next four minutes.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
I thought you're gonna give me a little, very very
very dramatically of I hopped off the plane at Lax
with my jeans and a cardigan. Welcome to the land
of fame, excess.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
It's good.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
How can I ever fit in spaw why spa?

Speaker 4 (17:58):
Yeah, I don't have the one about get off a
plane with a raccoon, but I'm working on it.

Speaker 1 (18:03):
Ah. I'm telling you Guardians of the Galaxy four, they
were shooting that and Hollin's gonna be in it. That's
what you know.

Speaker 4 (18:08):
That place sold out of raccoons and they shipped a
bunch in Norway after this showed up.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
We're all sold out.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
We got out fund of the Dornk and raccoon anymore.

Speaker 1 (18:16):
Someone to walk in going I gotta get when the
sign says we're all out of raccoon.

Speaker 3 (18:19):
Sorry, management, We're working curates some more.

Speaker 1 (18:24):

slash disclosures. So uh, we have a really big basketball
hot take coming your way next hour. But I would
be remiss if I didn't bring you the biggest basketball
new of the day today, and that is that Jalen
Brunson has dominated the twenty twenty six SB Awards, winning

(20:06):
Best Male Athlete, Best NBA Player, and Best Championship Performance.
I mean that that is about as dominant as you
could get.

Speaker 4 (20:14):
Now.

Speaker 1 (20:14):
I realize, Mike Harmon, that maybe Victor Webbin Yama and
the Spurs thought that baby, Oh, they would win the
award all the way up until they got to the
point where I had to walk on stage to get it.
And you know, the Knicks just did it at the
very end. So but he won these awards, and he
gets all of them. So there you go.

Speaker 4 (20:30):
All right, I'll give you the NBA player, sure best performance,
sure performance, his performance. Are we not talking about USA?

Speaker 3 (20:40):
USA?

Speaker 4 (20:41):
If we're gonna promote everything going on and keep wringing
our hands or trying to put some sav and a
soothing bomb on what was the United.

Speaker 3 (20:51):
States men's national team in soccer? What about Jack Hughes?
You know that was It's better than Jalen Brunton by
a million miles. Yeah, well, he captivated a nation, It
captivated a globe.

Speaker 4 (21:03):
Nah, you just got New York and the Rats and
the Pizza Rats.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
Brunson did the same thing. He did, not Brunson. You
need Dan Housen.

Speaker 4 (21:12):
Hey, Hey, Hey, the men's national team did it without
Hey Karl Anthony Towns acknowledged it earlier today. That's the
guy that got us the chip.

Speaker 1 (21:20):
You'd think Dan Housen didn't uh, didn't curse Canada along
the way. Yeah, of course, he did, of course.

Speaker 4 (21:25):
But I mean between acknowledging Dan Housen there and then
Jalen Brunson acknowledging Roman reigns, I mean it's it's kind
of a triangle.

Speaker 1 (21:34):
Listen, people didn't need to wake up at four o'clock
in the morning and watch United States win a gold
medal Jalen Brunson. The Knicks were in prime time for
everybody to see. Man, that's a performance.

Speaker 4 (21:43):
Well maybe you just need to want it more if
you wanted to get up and watch the US mentioned
a national team on the ice, which I know you
did not do. No.

Speaker 3 (21:54):
I was here. The gold was entertaining, captivating America.

Speaker 1 (21:59):
I woke up an hour and a half after it
started and I watched it, able to go through the
commercials and almost catch up. So, so what you're saying,
you're a better fan than I am just because you
happen to be up and working. Okay, sure, okay, yeah, one, okay, yeah, okay, okay, sure,
all right. Whatever whatever gets you through the night, Mike,

(22:20):
whatever he gets you through there. Jalen Brunson won three
SB Awards tonight and you and you getting up as
a fan, you couldn't bring with you being the greatest
sports fan in the world, couldn't bring a bigger championship
in the SB to the US men's hockey team.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
Who cares about this award?

Speaker 1 (22:41):
It's the biggest award out there. Man, are you wed
in July? When Jalen Brunson's winning awards? It matters greatly
when nobody works when taller than him, It doesn't whoa whoa,
whoa whoa. See now, now you sound like the Spurs
where you just sound like you're bitter and you refuse
to acknowledge it. And that's their ex coaches south bitter Man,

(23:02):
you out better. That's the best part of this story, right,
is that you look, Yes, Jalen Brunson winning the SP's
it's awesome. But the best basketball story the day. Actually,
there's two great basketball stories today. The first one involves
Sean Sweeney, who was just dayning the new head coach
of the Orlando Magic. He does a podcast interview and
he talks about the NBA Finals because he was just

(23:24):
the associate head coach of the Spurs when they lost
to the Knicks. And when he was asked the podcast
believe was Ryan Roussello's podcast was asked, Hey, what happened?
He said that, you know what, it was bad luck
that if the games were forty six minutes long, the
Spurs would have won in five.

Speaker 4 (23:45):
Well, the White Sox when they had the record breaking losses,
you know, and they if the games ended after six innings,
they were world beaters.

Speaker 1 (23:53):
I mean, I mean, come on, man, I mean, really,
you if the games were forty six minutes long, we
would one. We just had bad luck. Hey, you know what,
let me you know, I'm full of positivity because we
won the championship and the Knicks just clowned the Spurs.

Speaker 4 (24:07):
Well, your positivity that we're just that close to all
these other heavyweights in soccer.

Speaker 3 (24:12):
So let's continue.

Speaker 1 (24:14):
Let me let me just let me just help the
Spurs here. Let me just let me just help Spurs
fans and the Spurs players who want to make lists
and talk about, Hey, here's the top five toughest players
that I've guarded, and Jalen Brunson is not one of them.
The guy dropped forty five on you in a closeout
game and you lost in five. And he's the MVP
for all the Spurs when they didn't want to shake
hands when they want to talk about other players when

(24:36):
they want to say things like, hey, most of the
games we won. I want to say this, and I'm
being really positive when I say this, look at your
enemy in the eye. Acknowledge that you blew it and
that you lost. You have to acknowledge that you blew
huge leads and the biggest lead in NBA Finals history,

(24:58):
you blew a twenty nine point lead. You couldn't hold
onto it, and you blew it. And not only won't
you give the Knicks any credit, you act like you
act like you're still not in trouble. I mean, I
get the whole because you guys are in a horrible
place mentally for the NBA Finals, they never thought they
were in trouble. Down three to one, they never thought
they were in trouble against the Knicks. All their talk was, yeah,
we don't need to practice. What did d Aaron Fox

(25:19):
say we need to practice? We just needed to go
over stuff, and yeah, we're on the same page now,
Wenby saying we know we're gonna win it all, but
we gotta like they never thought they were in trouble.
And that's something during the series. Boy, this is something
where a month later your former associate head coach still
doesn't think you were in trouble they started. Oh yeah,
wait for forty six minutes. You know we would have
won those games. Wow, dude, you real understand you lost.

(25:40):
You're never gonna go forward if you don't realize and
deal with what happened and the meltdown you had, and
if you want to say you blew it and the
Knicks one because you blew it, okay, but you got
to take some responsibility. You lost this series, and there's
been no culpability or any responsibility from the Spurs at all.
It's almost like, yeah, we won the Western Conference finals
and we got there, but then what happened against the Knicks? Ah,

(26:01):
you know, a little hazy. I can't really remember. It's
like when someone's on the stand in a movie and
they suddenly can't remember when it. No, I don't know.
I don't know. Do you see the person in the
courtroom now? No, I can't see what we are you
talking about? We talked, we went over this. NOA No,
I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. When
I stem on your foot and say hello, mister Thompson,
say your name, uh, like there's zero zero culpability zero.

(26:24):
We blew it from the Spurs no recognizing that they
lost the NBA Finals. I mean, I thought I thought
Kenny Atkinson was living on Mars when he was like, yeah, analytically,
it's like we have a three to one series lead
in this. But man, when you're the Spurs and you
blew it, you just you just keep treating the finals
like it didn't happen. They just think, Hey, we're gonna
pick up the beginning of this season, it's gonna be

(26:45):
a continuational last year and we're going through and get oh, yes,
that's what happens, and you get right back and you
get right back to the finals. You're never gonna go
forward unless you understand what you did in how you
blew it. And now I'm not saying you got to
give the Knicks credit. I don't give a crap. I'll
give you the Knix credit, but at least understand that
you blew this, because it's just laughable when I hear
the Spurs players and coaches and say things like they

(27:07):
have about the NBA Finals, like yeah, stuff just happened
to us, dude, Stuff just doesn't happen to you in
the NBA finals. You blew it? Why did you blow it?
Was just gay? We needs a little bit more seasoning.
You were in the finals. There's no guarantee you're ever
gonna get back. As much as you have the best
player in the NBA and Wemby, a lot of things
have to go right. I'll be the first guy to
tell you. Do I expect the Knicks to be back

(27:27):
and win the championship next year? No, because nobody does
that anymore. Nobody repeats they'll be really good. Maybe they
win in two years. They're still a young team, they
still have all their core together. But I get the
reality of the NBA, and the Spurs just walk around like, yeah,
whatever happened. I don't know, Like my memory got erased
after the Western Conference finals and yeah I remember some
kind of playing, but it really didn't matter. And we're

(27:48):
gonna get back at it in the fall, realize and
accept what happened. Just like in life, when something bad happens,
you can't just sweep it under the rug forever. You
gotta deal with it emotionally if you're gonna move forward.
So there's my mess for the Spurs.

Speaker 4 (28:01):
They always say the first step is admitting you have
a problem, sure, and then moving forward, and then it
becomes a daily grind to remind yourself there are no
bad no more bad days. Look, it's just in parallel
to the whole thing, like you're talking about the men's
soccer squad, right, it's very much the same of all right,
there's a lot of good that came from this, but

(28:21):
in the end you blow it, which means you're still
miles away. You can have a lead for seventy two
percent of the time, doesn't mean the other twenty eight
didn't go catastrophically wrong. But if you want to focus
on the positive of the seventy two percent, I can't
kill you for it.

Speaker 3 (28:40):
Right, If that's how you have to deal with it.
And look, we talked about it.

Speaker 4 (28:43):
When the Spurs finished off the thunder, it's like the
way they responded on the court was my god, that's it,
Like the and they let everything out emotionally at that moment,
like all right, they'd crowned themselves versus your guys, many
of whom we've had multiple stops in these nbas and

(29:03):
we're in this NBA world and we're trying to just
keep their jobs in some respects right, Landry Shammitt and
Alvarado and all these guys like rotational guys. There was
no guarantee they were coming back. And then they have
great series, great finishes and loan behold there they are
forever eating and drinking on someone else's dime. But it

(29:27):
was we still have more work to be done, right,
This is not it. This is the culmination of a
long road for the Spurs. Wasn't the case. So when
you have an ex assistant coach, when you have players
that are still just trying to acknowledge the good parts
of it, that means they've got a long offseason before
they get back at or maybe they just try to
bridge it to next year. They're like, all right, once

(29:49):
we get back on, we control this. Because there's no
controlling the narrative at this point. There's been too many parades,
there's too many people walking around and Nick Sure, I mean,
what the hell Victor webbin Yama gonna do this week?
And he's going back for Fanatics Fest in New York?
Is he gonna be blinders on? Are they gonna put
a sleep mask on him as he navigates New York City?

(30:09):
Because once he goes into that space. I don't know
if he knows this. He's gonna see a sea of
Nick's merch and guys are gonna be smuggling signs in
the mocking Yeah, they're gonna say the French and the French,
and there's gonna be a picture of Himpappe on there.

Speaker 3 (30:24):
They're gonna say stuff like, what are you talking about?

Speaker 1 (30:27):
Nixon five? What do you mean? Well, what Nixon five? No? No,
Spurs and four because that's the beginning of the series.
Now you know the five. No no, no, no, no no no,
Like it's it's really impressive, this collective amnesia. The Spurs
have decided to just say nope, nope, nope, not gonna
deal with it, Nope, nope. Just bad luck. Oh just
bad luck. Bad luck. You blew a twenty nine point lead, right,
bad luck, you blew two big lead. Bad luck that

(30:48):
you blew double digit leads after the first quarter in
every game in the NBA files. This is really impressive,
just ignoring of the facts. Man, oh boy, that's that's
really good. Man, that's really good. Now.

Speaker 4 (31:01):
One of my favorites is, uh, well, we go to
the fun and excitement of Seinfeld for this punctuation mark
and the great character that was Lloyd Braun in the
famous Serenity Now episode, and he finally turned.

Speaker 3 (31:14):
He said, you know that stuff doesn't work.

Speaker 4 (31:17):
You can bottle it up for a long time, but
eventually you're gonna blown.

Speaker 1 (31:22):
I'll tell you that's impressive, man. Yeah, no, just bad luck,
bad luck. And if there were forty six minutes all
of a sudden, if they were forty six minutes, I
don't know.

Speaker 4 (31:30):
Can we go back into zu Bruner film? Can we
make an Argentinian case for your boy?

Speaker 1 (31:35):
Oh? But hey, who's the better left handed, left footed
Jalen Brunson or Leonel Messi eight seven seven ninety nine
on Fox.

Speaker 3 (31:43):
Let's do that.

Speaker 4 (31:46):
The phone lines are now gonna start ringing. Mike's looking
at you like he wants to. I love it.

Speaker 1 (31:52):
I love that the Spur, I love that the Spurs
just can't handle reality. It's so awesome. Jason Smith Mike

a big hot take. Mike Carmon, I got a big
hot take for you.

Speaker 3 (32:48):
I'm always ready for a good hot take.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
Now tonight, WNBA, we had three games today. Caitlin Clark
and Indiana fall to Golden State eighty eight seventy five.
You have a poor night shot for Caitlin Clark. They
can't come all the way back. But the w NBA
All Star teams were announced today. Teresa Weatherspoon and Cynthia
Cooper will be coaching the teams, and here's your hot take.

(33:11):
For the next few years, the best All Star game
in sports will be the w NBA All Star Game
because of two things. Number one, there's zero level of
competition in all the other sports, right, zero level of
competition in the NBA. Zero level of competent unless you're
making it United States versus the World unit. But even then,

(33:33):
it's one game. Uh, generally it's it's a it's a
one trick pony. You're trying to figure stuff out all
Star games. Look at the game we had last night.
No one's gonna walk around. Go man, I remember that
game that Fame League one was great, right, Eager was
the MVP. What do you talk?

Speaker 4 (33:48):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (33:48):
Yeah, no, when you could hit a two hop ground
er up the middle and in the first inning, and
when MVP that's awesome.

Speaker 4 (33:53):
And even he's mouthed to everybody goes, I won with
a singer in.

Speaker 1 (33:58):
The first inning. But uh, just seeing, you know, Weatherspoon
and Cooper drafting the All Star Game rosters tonight. Cooper
gets Paige Beckers because she was the top vote getter.
Weatherspoon picks Caitlin Clark, then goes with Asia Wilson Brianna
Stewart all down the row. This game is going to

(34:18):
be the biggest and the best because of two reasons.
Number one, our desire to see all of these people
that caused so many lips to flap over the course
of every single day with the treatment of Caitlyn Clark,
and is she really the best player in the game
and other players are better and there's eleven guards better

(34:38):
than her. There's so much built in drama every day
with the treatment of Kitlyn Clark, and is she making
it easier for other players as Page Becker is able
to come in and be a star because Caitlyn Clark
took all the arrows the first couple of years in
the league. The public's desire to see all it's like
seeing the Avengers get together for the first time, like, Wow,
we're gonna get to sing. Remember, Katelyn Clark got hurt
last year and it was very difficult, and it was

(35:00):
it was a rough season for the WNBA overall with
her being out. But now knowing that there's these rivalries
and the hatred that that players have for for these
other players on the teams, whether it's Caitlin Clark or
people hating Angel Reese or it doesn't matter, you're the people. People.
We want to see these games and the level of
competition is gonna be the best level of competition of

(35:22):
any All Star game because this is gonna be Okay,
everybody's watching now, I'm really going to show you a
little something something, right, whereas with NBA players and m
will be Yeah, it's great, but there's still a lot
of laughs. And in the end, a we're here, you know,
we're we're taking some time off. I got a couple
of days off coming up here. Right. The level of
competition isn't what it was. Yeah, you know, we want

(35:43):
to go back and watch the tired video. Here's Pete
Rose running over Ray Fawssey win an All Star game
fifty five years ago. Okay, great, But like those two things,
the public's interest in the star players in the w
NBA and the level of competition they're gonna have because
they're gonna want to pull each other's throats out. Uh yeah,
this is gonna be the best All Star game in
the world in the next few years.

Speaker 4 (36:04):
Well, just the way you kind of prefaced it, all
it's the uh, someone asked for a volunteer and they
stepped forward, or everybody else stepped backwards. You decide which
way you want to go, but certainly to build to
this point, we've had so many negative storylines. If I'd
tune in for a primetime interview where Engelbert just has

(36:27):
to sit in the middle of the court and answer
questions as much as anything from the w NBA right now,
I'd love to see that.

Speaker 1 (36:35):
Would you tune in to see or just sit there
and not answer questions, because that's what I'm like.

Speaker 4 (36:39):
Well, if she does some chipping okay from center court
and tries to ocky, I could hit this to the corner.

Speaker 1 (36:47):
Kind of like how Blake Snell would always answer sports
questions and baseball questions while he's playing on twitch. That's right,
Like she gets to chip and answer. Oh, I like okay,
I like the I'm down with that.

Speaker 4 (36:56):
I like, look, you you've coached and been on a
soccer and on the diamond with your daughter for years.
When do you get them most engaged in giving you
information about life in general when they're into their sport.
So maybe if she's chipping, she can start talking like
my daughter used to give me all of the information
I needed. Why we're just passing around to soccer ball

(37:18):
or she was trying to knock my head off from
the outside.

Speaker 3 (37:22):
Of the penalty area.

Speaker 4 (37:23):
I mean, we had all that, But this is a
game that I think will be interesting to see, right
because we've talked a lot about the officiating and the
hard falls, some of that again tonight with Caitlin Clark
on full display. So will they be on their best
behavior Saturday night when this game goes on a nationwide

(37:43):
spot in prime time? Because that's the other part, is
like trying to find where some of these games are.
Are they on Ion? Are they on Prime? If they're
not on Prime? Are they on USA? If they're not
on USA? I mean, we're playing pinball, man, mini schedules
telling me where to go?

Speaker 1 (38:00):
Finding the games is a thing, although I think that's
more of a thing where you can't really do the
ratings for the beginning of the game because people are
still finding it, right Like where is that? Okay, that's great,
but I think you know, later on as a game
goes on, you know, people are still gonna find that stuff.
But man, I'll tell you what, Oh it's page Becker
is the real thing? Is she gonna match up? You know,
she gonna match up with Caitlyn. Is Kitlyn gonna match

(38:22):
up with Kelsey Mitchell against Kelsey Mitchell like, there's so
much great stuff in this game. I'm telling you, as
long as Kaitlyn Clark's the WNBA, it's gonna be the
best All Star game everybody wants to. Man, let's go
telling you man, you get that level of competition that
is absent everywhere else, You're gonna get here. Exit out
about a Fresca exit swollen dome coming up next? Does
