You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Greetings, Welcome inside, Happy Friday. It's the Bow Baschett Show
with my bass friend and dad, Donte bischett. Today is
Friday and at former bassist hair Metal Greg Bissonette and
at a Bishan Friese. I'm out of Bichett's that quickly,
Mike Harmon, I have petered out of Bischetts just like that.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
Yeah, you know what I thought I had could run though.
Speaker 4 (00:54):
Well, the fact that you got into multiple means you
are already one. And you got Greg Bissonette and part
of Ringo Stars All Star band, nicely done.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
And Jacqueline Bissett.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
I forgot about Jacqueline, but of course I got to
explained to millennials who Jacqueline Bissett is.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
But okay, but there were okay, now I'm out. They've
seen her movies.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
They just Josie Bissitt, Josie Bissitt from Melrose Place. Oh
and Charles in Charge. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, see. Okay,
maybe we follow.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
Each other like on Twitter or something.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
Are you really wow, dude?
Speaker 1 (01:25):
If this was the nineties and I was single, I
would I would completely overcome your your Twitter account so
I could meet her.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
There you go. But it's not the nineties, and and
I'm married, and so you know, well.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
It's a swing in Friday night.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
I mean that is we we got both shot today.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
I had to send multiple takes of a video because
I kept cursing too much excited utterances, and Elija's like, damn,
that's too far.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Yeah, that's a bridge too far, even for you, Mike Carmen.
So when I woke when I woke up today, right,
I always know when something big happens with one of
my teams because I wake up because I always turned
my phone off because so many people my family just
you know, don't understand that. Oh yes, I forgot, I'm
three hours ahead. So I'm getting on a group family
text at six in the morning. Because so I always
(02:14):
turned my phone off. So I turned my phone on
and it's I'm going, oh, this is everybody who woke
up this morning and found out that Kyle Tucker is
a Dodger because that happened late last night, right like right,
And we went on the air ten o'clock on the
East coast for a lot of my family, you know,
they're in bed by then, so they're just finding out.
And here come the ha ha has and all I
(02:34):
see from the first couple of as you know, your
text go and you just see him as they they
they as they as they file in, I just see
Bo Bo, and I go, we got Bobashett, Like right away,
I knew It's like all I needed to see was
his name. His first day, he said, we got Bobashet
or Bo Jackson's coming out of retirement to play.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
For the Mets. One of those two that we got bobashev.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
And my hands are cramping and they're and they're shaking
as I'm typing into sea.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
And when I saw the deal, I've sat back at
I said.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
We did better off the day after missing out on
Kyle Tucker than the Dodgers did getting Kyle Tucker. And
I thought, Wow, Now that's something that doesn't really happen.
We just kind of lucked into that because I'll tell
you what you tell any MLB team owner, fan, salary,
luxury taxologist, whatever, to say, Okay, what's the contract and
(03:24):
player you'd rather have? Kyle Tucker who's terrific player right,
multiple All Star but didn't have a great year last year.
Gotta make sure he's healthy. Do you want Kyle Tucker
for that four years and sixty million a year because
it's going to cut into luxury tax and whatever changes
are coming with Major League Baseball? You know, Rob Manford's
going to have to do something. The lockout is coming.
(03:45):
Or wo'd you rather have Boba Shad for three years
and one hundred million? Terrific player right, really down year
two years ago, great year last year, but you got
him for three years and just over one hundred with
a couple of opt outs, Like okay, if it works great,
If it doesn't, everybody moves on. You tell me which
contract everybody would rather have. I'm like the Mets failed
and won. It was like to pulling the Homer Simpson
(04:05):
to succeed despite yourself.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
Mike Carman, Well, in the end, the Tucker contract. After
two years, everybody can decide whether they like the world
or not. Right, and if Tucker's the guy that he
thinks he is, then great. Same thing with Bo Baschett,
the fact that it's a three year deal. Look, I'll
always take the shortstop. Yeah I wish he hit from
the left side, but that's okay. But I'll always take
(04:28):
the shortstop over even a gold glove corner outfielder or
an eventual DH which Bishett certainly has done his time
there as well. But all that in in three years,
it resets. Everybody wins in this scenario because of the
short term deal. He gets paid pretty good, top of
(04:49):
top of market money and he's only entering what twenty eight,
so you're looking at your power prime and all of
that fun stuff. Proof of concept. Now he goes to
New York Will team would and you start getting all
excited about the heart of your lineup reconstituted and loaded
for bear. Remember all the money that comes on and
off books for everybody that got all upset about Kyle
(05:12):
Tucker a night ago. But in three years you'all reset
and decide, hey, do we want to re up? I
mean a lot of folks say that they should do
this with the relationships. Contracts are usually three to four years.
I mean all of these things. Let's reevaluate things and
see where we're at.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Yeah, I mean, look, you have so much flexibility. Look,
it's flexibility that's built into this one. Maybe you get
it with Kyle Tucker, maybe you don't.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
It depends if the guy stinks he's not out the
out of sixty million, he's staying, you're stuck like this
is this is a much better contracts. I remember talking
last night in the final hour of the show where
I said my big fear now for teams as what
I mean, not just the Mets but other teams, is
that now that Kyle Tucker is off the board and
off the board of the Dodgers, teams are gonna panic.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
They're gonna panic and overpay.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
And we said Boba Schett and for Cody Bellinger and
other players, and they're gonna overpay and it's gonna be
really bad. I was stunned when I saw, Okay, what's
the deal three years and and just over one hundred
million and it forty two. Wow, that's that's the deal.
That's incredible.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
That's incredible.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
And not only that we took him away from the Phillies,
who it's like, wow, I mean the Phillies really, I
this is this has been just a downward spiral for
them the last last few months, from the end of
the season where they couldn't win again. And Bryce Harper
is being called just a good player by his GM
and they're losing players, They're losing relievers and starting pitchers,
and now the guy they had earmarked to come in
(06:33):
for seven years and two hundred million dollars is going
to the Mets like this is the I mean, I
don't I don't get this kind of luck, which means
now something really bad is going to happen to the Jets,
and and RVL Reese is going to decide, Hey, I'm
going back to school because I don't want to go
to the Jets either. At number two, like the nixt
we're gonna find out Jalen Brunson is taking some time
away to go on a darkness retreat because he heard
(06:54):
it was really good. And I'm gonna rehab my ankle
that I mean, I know that this is too much
luck for something good, so I know I'm gonna have
to pay somewhere else well, but at Jalen Brunson takes
some time away. As long as he's back by the
middle of April, you're fine, because they're not gonna fill
out of the ten seed. The Eastern Conference stinks at
the back end. Those those teeings.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
You know, no matter what they do, they're not they
can't get out of their own way. I mean they're
trying as best they can, and it's just futility left
and right. I mean, look at the standings as we
as we sit here today. I mean, your knicks can
fall and the Pacers have ten wins, the Wizards have
ten wins, Charlotte got its fifteenth ah, and then you
(07:35):
got the Bucks and whatever it becomes of the Bucks
with their seventeen wins, just outside all of it. No,
but like I saw this come down and immediately just
had to grumble, going, we didn't even get twenty four
hours of mocking you before you walked in. Now, it
would be nice if Baschett maybe drew an extra walk
now and again and was more active on the base paths.
(07:57):
I mean, those are things that we can all wish
and hope for. Those are where you get a little
better off from Kyle Tucker. But when you talk about
the value of a three year deal for a middle
infielder with the All Star pedigree, that you got four
straight MVP votes when one top five finish for him.
So you've got a guy who's really coming into his
(08:19):
own And for Steve Cohen, he was able to put
out his own white puff of smoke.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
And you know the funny thing is, you want to
really go I almost gonna call you a this story today,
but I decided to wait to tell you now. So
so I get up, and I'm starting my day and
I'm going to the store to get to get coffee. Right,
So I'm driving, I got my mets hat on and
listen to music. I'm Blair, and I'm excited. I'm stoked.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
I'm like, yeah, I feel like the sheriff, right, I'm
walking around. Yeah, I get out of my way.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
You guys have paid two hundred and forty million dollars
a Kyle Tucker.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
We got a guy just as good for half price. Yeah, yeah,
I get out of my way.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
So I go in to get coffee, and I got
my mets hat on and and and the guy comes
up and says, oh, that's fan, huh.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
I said yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
And he goes, oh, don't see a lot of those
hats around here. And I said, you know, I said,
give me a break. I said, you know, what, are
you a big Dodger fan? Like I was just kind
of I go, what are you a Dodge fan? He goes, no,
I'm actually a White Sox fan. I said, oh, my
best friend is a white Sox fan. He goes really
go yeah, he's as miserable as you are. And the
guy said, but we got that big slugger from Japan.
(09:20):
I said sure, yeah, and you got the number one
pick in the draft.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
He goes yeah. I said, but your team stinks. You
have nothing to worry about. You're gonna be bad for
a long time. The guy goes, you know, I'm making
you your coffee, right. I said, no, you're right, you're right,
you're right, you're right.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
Could end man fun.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
But I tipped him very well, and I tipped him
before I got the coffee, so he knew about the coffee.
When he knew that he was getting a good tip
before he made me stop.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
No, no, no, he didn't.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
I watch him make it the whole time, right, did
you watch all the time he put like a thumbs
thumb in there, and then you had to decide whether
it was thumbs up or thumbs down depending on how
you spun the coffee cup around.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
I kind of feel like this, if you're gonna put
your thumb in a piping hot cup of coffee.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
I I kind of no, No, I didn't mean an
actual much thought that was, you know, Fomart Man Fomart
with the thumb and then he turns it to you
like it's like it's a thumbs down, not like you
have a picture of you know, some some cartoon creature
or something in there.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
But hey, can you put mister Metton there? Can you
make mister Metta? Do you have that to make that happen?
Speaker 5 (10:16):
Ye?
Speaker 3 (10:16):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
Arista is all over the place, no doubt about it.
But yeah, Bashett sixty three extra base hits here, sixteenth
MVP voting all of that off is what three eleven
batting average two ninety four for his career. So that's
one of those big wins to all of this. But yeah,
we didn't even get twenty four hours of you trying
(10:37):
to rationalize why everything was okay and convincing yourself and
trying to convince the world that it was because look,
I had read off some of Tucker's stuff and you
got some big finishes right these last couple of years
between his run in Houston to the year in Chicago,
even though the second half was injury plagued and a
(10:58):
bit abysmal, But you get the w because they rallied nicely.
They did not fold, and they had something else behind
door number two.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
There was no folding. There was no folding left. Last night,
I was like, well, what are you gonna do? The Dodgers,
just the the evil Empire, continue to add and now
they have like what two billion dollars of salary that
is due to you know, their entire team, Like how
are you gonna pay it off? And you know, fans
across the country are all upset, and I'm going, what
are you gonna do? And now I'm like, yeah, Boba Schet,
(11:28):
I'll see you in the NLCS, I'll see you this ship.
One day, I had a beer, I took a shower
because that's how we do it in the NBA.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
And now I'm ready to go again.
Speaker 4 (11:37):
But that's just it, right. You start going through and
new your debits and credits like you're you're doing an
accounting class. Uh, Clayton Kershaw comes off the books. Other
guys come off the books, and the Dodgers side he
adds some back and yes, it's it's a very large
number out there. Guess what, they make a lot of revenue.
They've got their own revenue deal that was agreed to
(11:59):
that and a bunch of owners are now mad that
they did, and so that'll get revisited as part of
the inevitable work stoppage or eleventh hour deal that has
to happen to have baseball in twenty twenty seven. But
as it stands shows other teams are ready to go
spend some money because three for one twenty six, while
it ain't what Kyle Tucker got ain't exactly peanuts. Yeah,
(12:22):
but like you like to say, it's not my money.
You no, no, no, But but that's I'm speaking to
the folks that aren't you me Frostburg tight Shirt, Steve
de Sager and others that recognize there's a lot of
money being transacted and you know what, yeah, it is
ours when we pay for parking and for our MLB
TV accounts and everything else. But in the end, if
(12:45):
an owner wants to compete, you can't be the White Sox.
You can't be the Rockies and these teams that take
their one hundred plus million dollars from the national deals
and just say, well, you know what, we're gonna put
half of it back on the field. They're not even
putting it in those vending machines like you love to
say so much.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
Yeah, but look, but here's the thing. All right, we've
been talking about this for nine minutes, right, nine minutes.
In the last nine minutes, Steve Cohen has made one
hundred and twenty six million dollars. So it's okay, in
nine minutes at ten at ten o'clock on a Friday night,
he has just made one hundred and twenty five million.
And wait till Thatt Casino opens and said, forget about it, man,
(13:24):
Then it's gonna be Hey, what's your salary cap that yo,
We're gonna try to keep it under eight hundred million. Uh,
you know, we got a lot of guys coming, we
got we've got some holes to fill. We're gonna try
to keep it under eight hundred million. Oh okay, great,
it's exciting, exciting, it's exciting.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
Time Friday night, because you got the CounterPunch and now
we'll see who else jumps in counter punch my ace.

The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon.
A big football Friday, getting set for the Divisional round tomorrow,
the National Championship on Monday. We'll pick the National title
game coming up in about twenty minutes. But before we
pick our games on Saturday, you know, I was thinking
about this today.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
Uh, looking at the games this weekend.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
Mike, it certainly feels like and again we have to
wait and see how things play out this weekend, but
it certainly feels like its last roundup time for two
NFL teams before you could see some big changes. Now
if they win this weekend, okay, but like if the
Rams and the Bills lose this weekend, it kind of
(15:51):
feels like you're gonna see some big changes.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
For both of these teams. Right.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
Like the Rams, we thought they would continue to get better.
They're kind of been in a holding pattern the last
couple of years, or they're really really strong, Like I
still think they're the best team overall in the NFC,
But are they overwhelming of the best team And they
got to play in negative fifty degree weather on Sunday
night in Chicago. I kind of feel like they should
be more dominant, and it kind of feels like, again
(16:16):
they're in a holding pattern. Hey with Stafford, what are
we going to do? Are we going after a new quarterback?
Are we sticking with him? He's gonna win the MVP?
Like I feel like if they fall short this week,
if they lose to the Bears, who are young and
up and coming, this is a signal to say, hey,
you know what we you know, we need to do
something a little bit different. And I feel like the
same thing for the Bills, where this is not the
(16:37):
strongest Bills team in the world, but here they are
on the road. I talked about how maybe the road
is the best path for them to try to get
over the top this year.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
And it doesn't matter that.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
There's no Mahomes, there's no you know, Burrow, there's no Hey,
you still have good teams to beat on the road.
Speaker 3 (16:51):
All the way through.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
But I feel like they're squeezing every drop out of
this squad before they make big splashes in the offseason.
Right their weapons at wide receiver and tight end just
aren't there, and Josh Allen can't keep carrying the Bills
like he has been. Dalton Kin Kid hasn't worked out
to be a star. He's been in and out of
the lineup, and he's not been the next Travis Kelcey
(17:13):
Kean Coleman getting bench during games. He's not been great.
Nobody knows who these receivers are. The defense is not
quite as good as it has been in years past,
so I feel like this is like the last hurrah
for them and for both the Rams and the Bills. Boy,
they lose this week and it's gonna be okay. We've
been up at the top of the league for the
last few years and everything's been great, and we're still
(17:33):
gonna stay up there because we're still really talented. But boy,
we need some big moves in this offseason.
Speaker 4 (17:38):
Yeah, we'll start with the Rams. You know, the big question,
how hurt was Matthew Stafford really this offseason versus I
just don't want to show up until I have to
and you're never gonna convince me it's not the latter,
not to say that he's not banged up and old. Right,
he is thirty eight, but had a fantastic season. They
(17:59):
got younger these last couple of years. Clearly need some
work in the defensive secondary, but that defensive front can
terrorize you a bit. Special teams needs a bit of
re constitution, the thicker kicker, you get rid of the coordinator.
But you're trying to make sense of that, no question
about it. Offensively, everybody can use an extra offensive lineman.
(18:23):
You look at the way they're currently rostered for next
year in terms of where the money is spent. Stafford
Adams lead the charge. Then you've got two offensive linemen
before you get to Quentin lank Kyron Williams, etc. So
you do have some ability to move things around and
change it up, whether you rework Stafford as you go forward.
(18:47):
He's got about a forty nine million dollar cap hit
on you there. I do agree on the buffalo side
of things, because you got a lot of pending free agents,
particularly on the defense where you've had a top ten unit.
It doesn't look like it week week to week, and
you've seen them get run on on occasion. The only
stat that matters for me is how many points a
(19:09):
game are you giving up? And they've been very good
a year after year under Sean McDermott closing things out.
But to your point on the offense, yeah, Knox and
kincaid have been solid in spots, but not week to week.
Khalil Shakir is fantastic to move the chain six to
eight yards at a pop. That's great long protracted drives.
(19:32):
What usually happens along the way, there's at least a
penalty or two that beset them and force you out
of field goal range, force you out of any kind
of scoring opportunity, and eventually, Josh Allen, yeah, we'll start
seeing and we did a little bit this season, Jason, right,
where is the foot injury? We started doing? You know,
as we've always joked about the the old operation game
(19:54):
of all the things that light up on the big
CBS board when they say, hey, here's your injury tracker,
brought to you by Yeah. Yeah, Eventually, Josh Allen, you're
gonna see a little bit more of a pullback there,
even on the tush push and whatever things that they've done.
The last couple of weeks. He certainly doesn't look comfortable
doing it. He's making it work, but he's not getting
(20:16):
to the edge. He's not taking over games with his
legs as he has done in years past. Right in
the mirror image of his classmate in the twenty eighteen draft,
Lamar Jackson. Two guys that after eight years, all right,
it's the next evolution.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
What do you need to do to do that?
Speaker 4 (20:33):
Stop laughing and chuckling it up when you go on
a radio spot, mister buffalo GM and actually go get
him some damn wide receivers. I love Brandon Cooks as
much as the next guy, but we you know, like
when we talk with Todd Furman yesterday, he made the
one liner about Keon Coleman. That was a guy that
they sat down multiple times for being a I don't
(20:54):
even know what to say. You know, what term do
you want to throw on it. Whether he's just know,
a guy that couldn't learn the playbook, a guy didn't
show up on time. We never got a full answer,
but he was a healthy scratch multiple times. Now they're
desperate and and sending up flares like they're trying to
get a rescue boat on Jurassic Park.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
Well, you need the flares. I mean, you don't want
the dinosaurs to see him. You gotta be able to
get rescued. You gotta you gotta hear you, gotta guy
get out there. To Richard Attenborough, he's gotta be able.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
To make the play.
Speaker 4 (21:24):
Come on you, sir, Richard Attenborough in Yeah, yeah, And.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
I do want to say because I heard you say somebody,
but I believe you misspoke. And you know, I don't
like to correct you. But when you said, hey, sometimes
there's penalties that beset the bills, I think you meant
to say there are penalties that beshet the bills.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
I think that's what you had to say that.
Speaker 4 (21:43):
Yeah, you're not sitting next to me right now.
Speaker 3 (21:49):
You mean that's gonna be shit everybody. It's gonna be
shut the bills, bes shut the ball.
Speaker 4 (21:55):
Uh. You know his old man was one of my
favorite players ever, by the way. Yeah, that lineup and Collado,
they were fantastic.
Speaker 1 (22:01):
Well, the thing is that with signing Bobashett, Dante is
now gonna hit seventh and play left field. Oh sweet,
I know if you know that, it's we're getting both
of them and he's gonna play left.
Speaker 4 (22:10):
He did not realize it was a tag team bout.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
Yeah, I mean, he's sixty, so I'm just hoping to
get a hundred games out of him. But he's gonna play.
He's gonna play left field. Okay, Well we'll take a
look at that. I mean, we'll see what the over
under is. Maybe he can play a little short center field.
Speaker 4 (22:24):
I don't know. I mean maybe maybe we keep talking, Hey,
we keep talking about the rules of the game changing,
and maybe they could just sneak a guy out there
without people knowing.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
Hey, wait a minute, I think you have ten on
the field. What are you talking about? No, no, hey, quick,
stand behind stand behind that guy. Oh what are you
talking Now, I know what you're talking about. We only
are right.
Speaker 4 (22:43):
It looked like he's got a cloak of invisibility until
he runs to chase down a fly ball.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
That guy didn't move to catch that pop up that
fell in the middle of short center field. Now I
know what you're talking about, man, I have no idea.
Uh now, So, speaking of the Bills, let's give you
picks for this weekend. Let's start with Saturday's games Buffalo
and Denver. This to me honestly, was the hardest game
to pick, because, like I said, I like the fact
(23:10):
the Bills are on the on the road.
Speaker 3 (23:12):
It may be the best thing for them.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
Josh Allen's the best player left in the playoffs, and
and and clearly this is going to be a game
with Buffalo type weather. And you know the Bills have
shown you they can run the football. However, two things.
Number One, I picked Denver to go to the AFC
Championship game in the preseason, so I'm not gonna ditch
the mal And two, I think people are forgetting how
(23:35):
good Denver is just because they didn't play last week.
Speaker 3 (23:37):
There's a reason why they're the number one seed in
the AFC. Right. The defense is lights out. It's a
top three defense.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
Right, take your pick there between after the Texans, between
the Broncos and the Seahawks. You throw the Rams in
there too. Even as opportunistic as the Bears defense is
not quite the shutdown defense that these other teams are,
but the way they get turnovers, Like, people forget this
is how good Denver is. Right, Denver is a bad
matchup for the Buffalo offense. I know that everybody wants
(24:06):
to see Josh Allen win and they want but I
think wanting a storyline to happen and it actually happening
are two different things. In a matchup of one great
player against a great team, I'll always take the great team,
especially since the Bills have not shown they can consistently
run the football when they have to. They have a
game where, wow, they look unstoppable because Josh Allen has
(24:27):
a big game and James Cook goes for one and
two touchdowns and it's man, they don't even need to
throw the football once. Then they have many weeks where
it's how does James Cook have thirteen carries for twenty
nine yards? What is happening here? Denver is at home.
They're gonna find enough way Buffalo trouble running the football.
Josh Allen's not enough. Denver's the better team everywhere. I'll
(24:47):
take the Broncos. In a theme for this weekend, I
like the under in just about every single game. I'll
take the Broncos twenty four to seventeen.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (24:55):
My big curiosity is how Buffalo comes out in attacks
because they're missing several members in that secondary. Right, Poyers
out and you just go down the line there's a
lot of red ink on that injury report and missing
bodies for the Bills. That said, I'm not the biggest
fan of the Denver offense, and we've certainly seen them
(25:16):
sputter at times. It's a lot of wishyguaning hoping. You know,
I am the original Josh Allen apologist, long before Hailey
Steinfeld converted from being a Broncos fan. You saw that
meme this week and all of those things that roll
up into it. It's just a can they make one
more play? Denver on the year minus three in turnover
differential Buffalo plus one, But do they have enough receivers
(25:41):
to make a play and can you find separation against
that Buffalo against their wings right when you're talking about
certain and what they bring to bear in the secondary. So,
as much as it pains me to say it, Denver
wins this one. It's a low scoring game though. Twenty thirteen, your.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
Final Seahawks and the forty nine ers. Now, the Seahawks
have all said they are optimistic. They hope Sam Donald plays.
There's been nothing in the last couple of days that
has indicated that Donald is not going to play. Just
think about this two years ago. If I said, hey,
one of the big the biggest injury we're talking about
for the playoffs is going to be.
Speaker 3 (26:17):
Will Sam Darnald play or not?
Speaker 4 (26:18):
Right?
Speaker 3 (26:18):
Okay, you're crazy, No, this is the NFL.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
It doesn't matter because the Seahawks defense when they played
the Niners a couple of weeks ago, I feared for
brock Perdy's life in the fourth quarter. It was every
single play was they are teeing off on him. The
forty nine Ers just don't have the horses right Kittle
out for the year. It's basically Christian McCaffrey and good luck.
They don't need Donald to play great. They will run
(26:43):
the football well enough, the offense will eventually get into
groove at home, their defense will run the day and
I'll take the Seahawks by double digits. I'll take them
by two touchdowns in this game, twenty seven to thirteen,
and the fraudulent Sam Francisco forty nine Ers finally go home.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
Yeah, part of me is hating my just for picking
against Allen and company, because you know, I have a
liking problem with Sean Payton. I don't and all of that,
But for this particular game that week, eighteen really just
stands out right because we have very few of those
games that really mattered. And this was still for the path, right,
(27:20):
you heard it all week. Hey, they have the opportunity
to run all the way playing at home there in
Santa Clara, and then they got absolutely dominated. We talk
about swarm tackling, and we've joked about, hey, let's superimpose
some of the National Geographic and Nature films over the
top as to how those defenders went after San Francisco players.
(27:40):
The thing for me is George Kittle's absence, not just
as a receiver but as a blocker in the run game.
And even if Williams is good to go and you
can get Pierce all back, on some degree, you're not
there for Fred Warner, I know, And people are trying
to reuse that as a rallying he could be back
the following week. Well he's not there, you know, and
then the hey, this guy's spirit only gets you so far.
(28:02):
So fearing the swarming of the Seahawks, Look they can
go get Sam now he and Brock Perdy. Who's gonna
make more mistakes? Who's gonna put the ball in harm's
way more frequently? I think is the big mantra here?
Can can they find DeMarcus Robinson? Is he gonna be
wide open as he was a couple of times last
week and weaving his way down through a secondary against Philadelphia?
(28:25):
The answer is probably not quite as easily here. I
would love to do nothing more than to see an
upset and create some chaos here, but I just can't
see it. The domination won't be there though. San Francisco
will hang around. Robert Salo'll have some special tricks for
your guys. Sam Darnold and he's got a bleak, So
(28:45):
who knows. You might see Drew Locke before it's all done.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
At it An Sali he's gonna be doing interviews to
be a head coach on the sideline during the game.
Come on, man, he's Hey, don't worry about the jet stuff.
Don't ask me about that. Just hey, just look at
what I've done with the forty nine ers.
Speaker 3 (28:58):
I could be great.
Speaker 4 (28:59):
Hey, I go back a week ago, Remember how well
Jesse Minter when he was interviewing from the sideline. His
defense came up big. Hey, he did a great job.
The offense did nothing. But what am I gonna do?
Speaker 3 (29:11):
Exit out about a Fresca exit Swallen' Dome.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
So there's our picks for Saturday, Broncos, Bill Seahawks, forty
nine ers.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
We got more coming up in ninety seconds.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
But first time, how to find out what's trending in
the wide world of sports From a guy who's been
called the Bobaschett of Fox Sports.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
Radio because he makes just as much money as he does.
It's Steve Desteger.
Speaker 6 (29:30):
I have started just many games as third base as
bomashett has. Just for the record, I think there was
a great item because they I was reading that Jorge
Polanco might be starting at first. He has one career
game at first base. Bobaschetz literally never played at third
base major or minor leagues in his career. Those could
be the opening day guys at the corners. So the
(29:51):
great Sarah Langs points out that in the last one
hundred years, only one team has started infielders on opening
day with that little experience at those positions, and that
was the nineteen forty eight Dodgers with Jackie Robinson at
second Billy Cox at third. But yes, shortstop Bo Baschett
from the Blue Jays agrees to a three year deal
(30:13):
with the Mets, reportedly worth over one hundred and twenty
five million dollars. It does include two opt outs. He'll
reportedly play third. Last season, Boshett hit three to eleven
eighteen homers, ninety four RBIs his career batting averages two
ninety four. After a sprain knee, he returned to play
in the World Series last year against La home run
in Game seven, hit three forty eight for the series.
(30:35):
The Phillies are resigning catcher j. T Rale Mutto to
a three year contract. Philadelphia already resigned Kyle Forber this offseason,
the Twins agreed to a two year deal with catcher
Victor Caratini. He'd been with Houston and can also play
first base Baseball's Hall of Fame announcement comes on Tuesday.
On the ballot Carlos Beltron, Andrew Jones, Chase Uttley and others.
(30:57):
Former second baseman Jeff Kent was elected to the Baseball
Hall of Fame by a committee this offseason. He received
fourteen of the sixteen votes, needing twelve to get In
a reminder, college Football's National Title Game is Monday, Indiana
at Miami. The NBA All Star Game starters will be
announced on Monday. Voting just ended for the fans this
past Wednesday. Utah's Lowry markin And is out for Saturday's
(31:20):
game due to illness, and Cooper flag, young star of
the Mavericks, doubtful due to a sprained ankle. Luka Doncich
of the Lakers out Saturday with a groin injury. There
are two late games in the NBA. Tonight, final minute
of the first half at Houston, Minnesota leads the Rockets
fifty four forty eight, even though Anthony Edwards of the
Timberwolves is out again with a foot injury. Washington has
(31:40):
lost four in a row, and at Sacramento, the King's
late first quarter lead thirty seven to twenty two over
the Wizards. Demantus Sabonis of the Kings has returned, scoring
a couple of buckets off the bench tonight. He had
practiced fully yesterday. Sabonis had been ound since mid November.
Within the injury, wins for Indiana and Brooklyn at home,
but not Toronto. The Clippers came back for an overtime
(32:02):
win against the Raptors one twenty one, one seventeen, five
straight wins for the Clippers. James Harden thirty one points
from three point range. He was two of fifteen. Cleveland
won on a late dunk at Philadelphia one seventeen one fifteen.
Jalen Tyson of the Cavs thirty nine points. Duke quarterback
Darien Mensa decided to enter the transfer portal the Buffalo
(32:24):
Bills activated one.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
Steve waits, you know, you know, ifre was doing that story,
he would say, now, clearly, TJ. Pretty soon we'll find
out the Mensa candidates where he could end up being
their quarterback.
Speaker 6 (32:38):
For those unaware, that's like an extra intelligence group mensa. Unfortunately,
the word mensa in Spanish does mean idiot. Not kidding
Texan from Steve Seger just always found that odd. Texans
wide receiver Nico Collins is officially out this weekend with
a concussion. Houston's at New England on Sunday. Patriots defensive
(33:02):
back Christian Gonzalez was cleared to play after a concussion.
Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold said he's feeling better he'll play
Saturday night after the oblique injury, and in the NHL,
Carolina was a nine to one winner over Florida. Tampa
Bay has won eleven in a row. They're tied to two.
Layton regulation at Saint Louis.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve O. Yeah that that
Darien Men's' decision really screwed.
Speaker 1 (33:23):
Duke many Ds has to be banging his head again,
nobody less. Come on, man, this late in the portal process.
Has no quarterbacks out there, just alic spite.
Speaker 6 (33:32):
They should hold him to the nil contract and keep
all of his rights. Fine, go play somewhere else you
won't earn anything.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
Beg you, Steve.
Speaker 1 (33:42):

Speaker 1 (34:01):
When you're a twelve point per game scorer and you
score thirty nine and you help your team to win
in the last second hoop, you get to be the
play of the day. Beats Mobley Pow Mobly with the
dump four point eight to go.
Speaker 3 (34:14):
Philly's out of timeouts, Tavs by two.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
Maxie half Port shot, No Tavs win it, Tames win it.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
Evan Mobley with the dump.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
Cleveland Calves Radio Network on the call, Jalen Tyson thirty
nine points, but the dish to Mobili for the game
winning bucket gives the Calves the one seventeen.
Speaker 3 (34:37):
One point fifteen win over the seventy six ers.
Speaker 1 (34:40):
Maybe the Cavs don't need Lebron mate, man, Okay, we
got a guy. We got a guy that barely can
get on the court. Hey, wait a minute, he's got
thirty nine.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
Yeah, Lron, We're good. We don't need you.
Speaker 4 (34:49):
They kept listening to you, and they heard you trying
to speak it into existence, and they said, beat it.
Speaker 1 (34:56):
Coming up next. So we gave you the first two
games on Saturday in the NFL. How about we jumped
to Monday night and tell you who's walking away the
national champion in college football. That's coming up next, right here,
Jason and Mike, Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports Radio, The
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Now

Rhodes and Andy Furman, we have each made only one
incorrect pick. Visit Fox Sports Radio dot com to check
(35:41):
out the leaderboard. I'd be leading if I didn't pick Oregon,
so uh, just let you know. I mean, I'd be
leading Oregon. Yeah, that was the only thing. There's only
one reason why I'm not leading my one, very tiny one.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
I picked Oregon, very tiny one, very tired.
Speaker 4 (35:55):
Okay, we just just that little thing. You can rebound
in the next contest.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
So we have more NFL on the way in a
few minutes.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
But National Championship game on Monday night, Miami and Indiana,
as we all drew it up. Now, call me a
Pollyanna and that I want to believe this, but I
honestly feel like we are about to get an all
time great playoff game between.
Speaker 3 (36:21):
These two teams.
Speaker 1 (36:22):
I kind of see this almost like now I'm going
back a bit and I gotta explained to millennials. But
the Bills Giants Super Bowl with the Norwood miss, like,
I kind of have a feeling that that's the kind
of game we're gonna get. Where Buffalo came in with
this high powered offense, the k gun offense that nobody
could stop. The Giants came in really solid all over
with a terrific physical defense.
Speaker 3 (36:42):
And what happened.
Speaker 1 (36:43):
The Giants were able to control the clock, they were
able to make enough plays, and they squeak by when Scott.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
Norwoods field goal attempt goes wide.
Speaker 1 (36:53):
It's weird and it's hard for me because I feel
like a lot of people are jumping the fence on
this and jumping away from Indian But I'll put my
money where my mouth is.
Speaker 3 (37:02):
When we saw Miami win, we told you how they
could beat Indiana.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
Look, this defense is fast and it's physical, and Indiana
has been a great front running team all year long.
What happens when they get punched in the mouth. They've
not had a ton of adversity. They've been able to
especially coming off a game last week where they just
rolled out and won by sixty. So it's gonna be
a little bit more difficult because it's gonna be tougher
(37:27):
from the jump. Miami's defense is gonna hit for Nano Mendoza.
It's gonna make them uncomfortable. And offensively, what does Miami
do the best, But you've seen him in the playoffs
over the course of the season, those thirteen plays sixty
five yard eight and a half minute drives and take
up most of a quarter and result in a touchdown
or a fieldal but mainly keeping the offense off the field.
(37:50):
I will take Miami an upset that's not quite an upset.
They win it twenty three seventeen, and again, I feel
like it's gonna be one of those all time great
games with big defensive plays. We're talking about defensive stands,
Mendoza standing up and trying to throw Indiana back in
it right, big trick plays. Signetty runs a trick play,
but Miami has enough. And we're talking about Mario Crystal
(38:11):
Ball and this tenth ranight Miami Hurricanes team winning the
national titles.
Speaker 4 (38:16):
Forty seven and a half is the total. It would
be a huge upset because right now Indiana is favored
by eight and a half points. You're get in for this,
soare if you want to go and buy yourself a
ticket thirty nine eighty five get in. Yeah, that's right,
But you know what, you only get there once in
(38:38):
theory if you're either of these squads. But you know,
we talked about Miami and their road and getting in
and all the crying that went on for them along
the way, you know, from the other schools that were
left out, you know what, And here they are. They
have their chance to really punch everybody in the mouth.
And I look at the defense and that's the curiosity
(39:01):
for me. But I picked Indiana. That's one thing I
had still in the bracket. They're smith so I'm not
going away from it. I'm gonna take Indiana to win
thirty one to twenty four. Miami does land inside that
eight and a half, but the defense does get pressure
on Mendoza, creates a little bit of chaos, and I
think daily missing for Indiana will actually come back on
(39:22):
them a little bit as they have to change up
their defensive rotations. Mind also, Miami missing one of their
cornerbacks for a half because of a targeting penalty back
against Oregon.
Speaker 1 (39:32):
So now, but the big thing is, does does Kurt
Signetti have Chipotle before, during, or after the game.
Speaker 4 (39:40):
Oh, I think all three? I think three? Okay, yeah,
well it is a national champion, nuts.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
Okay, it is the national title. If you're gonna do
it three times in a day, that's certainly the day
to do it.
Speaker 4 (39:50):
You rally in in in big form because you wanna
you wanna flex.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
Uh you know, I this is I know that it's
an eight and a half point spread, but this is
the difference between the number one team in the country
the number ten team in college football. This is not
like college basketball, right, Like, that's the one thing I
feel like, Okay, we're we're losing a little bit with
what we think the seedings are. There's no difference between
ten and four, between six and three, right, But it
(40:20):
seems like a lot because that's what we're used to.
And that's why I alady see this upset eight and
a half points. Yeah, it's that's not kind of how
it is when you look at a one seed versus
a ten seed, Like it's you know, we're in the
Elite eight, and boy can the ten seed pull a
big upset?
Speaker 4 (40:33):
Wow? But this would be monumental. Here you're plus eight
and a half smith you're going big.
Speaker 1 (40:39):
So we got Pete Futech coming up in a half
hour to give us his perspective of the National title game,
and and Dante More going back to school. But coming
up next, who are the other teams walking away with
big wins this weekend in the NFL our Big Football
Friday Picks continue next right here, Jason and Mike fuck
