the great unknown uh forever linked and with plenty of
negative ink because of the where he was drafted, how
he was drafted, all of that with captain Kirk in
place down there. But I'm looking at that roster. You've
already lost one defensive end to an ACL. The other
guy is probably gonna get suspended for his off field stuff.

You've got two great skill position players and two quarterbacks
that I don't think anybody trusts the cobble together anywhere
close to a seventeen game schedule, even if we voltron them,
I don't think we're getting there.

And now I just don't my Hagard and I love Kevin.
He's a really bright, offensive guy. He knows offense really well.
He came from quarterback hell in Cleveland, and this is
like one level towards purgatory. I mean, my god, I've
felt bad. I'm like, dude, you had a deal with

Deshaun Watson and then all the other fallout from their
shit door and everything else, and now you go to
Atlanta and you're looking at those two guys. I mean, Mike, God,
give the guy a quarterback, please.

So in your tell All book, years after these guys
are all retired, you'll give us some of the uh,
the lowdown from the couple of years there with Cleveland
and Deshaun Watson. I'm sure, there are plenty of stories
that that didn't make airwaves when you guys met up.

Oh yeah, oh my, he's a pro, like you know,
you could see the beauty of like those those coaches.
Has been around the game and everything. And and Kevin's
dad is Ed Stefanski, who's an NBA executive, right, so
he's been. He grew up in that world of Omerta,

So she says to me, you know, we've been dated

All right, no problem, right, So we go to the
corner bar in that neighborhood, Bridgeport was the name.

Oh absolutely there we you know, right.

So we go to the bar. I don't my thinking.
I'm you know, yes, their notes st type of thing,
right until the guy gets punched in his face. Right,
somebody somebody comes over and I don't know what was
going on. They knew each other. The guy lamps him right.
The next thing you know, there's like five dudes like

wanting to pound this guy. So what am I supposed
to do? I can't leave the guy, you know, I
have to come in.

Benny, My god, I'm there.

I swear was there for like thirty minutes, and I'm
getting I'm getting hitting the head and kicked and I'm like,
what the how? What is up with your father? Man?
He's like, what's going on? I got, I got jumped
five minutes of their half hour to the night. Crazy.

I just want to go home. Hey, my White Sox.

I mean they're giving me a thrill this this summer,
and my brothers are still their extended family, all the friends. Hey,
it's fun. He's gonna be their first one hundred million
dollar player.

Yeah. I love that team. I actually look cols of
Montgomery and Vargas and I mean they could rake.

It's a fun squad. A lot of a lot of
like youthful power and the fact that they bought at
the deadline. Now were they headlined bys No, but they
were active and not sending guys out, which is something
I have not seen in a very very long time.
Speaker 5 (05:38):
Plenty of time to get into all of that.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
Seven to six White Socks with a lead going into
the ninth trying to stave off that sweep uh there
against the Red Sox, so keeping an eye on that.
We got the Hall of Fame game winding through into
the fourth quarter. Again, we've hit the over and football
is back, so we celebrate in grand order.
Speaker 4 (05:58):
He doesn't look good, seriously, Yeah, it doesn't even look normal. Absolutely,
Oh my god, I freaking love it.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
The grad. You know, the field looks a little greener,
the the uniforms even though they're wearing the uh, the
inkpen red like you're about to get a bunch of
things wrong on a test.
Speaker 5 (06:17):
Welcome back to school kids. There it is watched the Cardinals.
What's that mean for you?
Speaker 4 (06:23):
But I was arguing with a buddy by today, uh
on my show, and because I was like all geeked
up for the game tonight and they're like, oh, Hall
of Fame game and it's Caraliva Arizona, and I go, dude,
it's Carson Back. Man, you like what you look for
to watch Carson Back? I mean, just watch the champion,
the whole thing. Come on. And everybody loves to mock
(06:49):
the preseason in the Hall of Fame game, and yet
they're they're all watching it. When you go to the
NFL last for five months, all right, that's why we're NBA.
It's a ten month season, MLB is a ten month season,
NHL is a ten month season, NFL's five months. Football's
(07:10):
five months. Can we get soaking every bit of it
without mocking it?

Well, that's the running joke on the show is Jason
laughs at me all the time, Anthony, it's like, I
celebrate all two hundred and seventy two of them.

He bet that's one of them's got to be last.

twenty game, you know, one of my favorite things of
the preseason, and Anthony is going through as guys score,

make big plays, big gaffes, whatever. Is trying to recall
where they went to college. Yes, the older I get,
I'm not as good at it anymore. It's kind of
like you know a broadcaster that that's been doing games.
You know, former player who knew the coordinators and coaches
and whatever, and once they cycle out, they don't know
them quite the same way. Big ten, I'm pretty pretty
(10:25):
locked in on rest of college football because of guys
bouncing around. It's a little harder and keep them keep tabs.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
Well, you know, it's funny. We should do the same
thing that we would my front all my buddies would
get together and we'd always give you the college game.
Where'd he go? Where'd he go? But you're right with
the portal. It's it's completely wild, how it is. Like
you know now now that game is can you name
the four schools that treated that Chamblet's went to? No?
Speaker 3 (10:56):
But that's it, right, Like I'm a big in my
spare time, I'm a big trading card memorabilia kind of guy.
Speaker 4 (11:02):
Right.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
I love love the trading. I like it since I
was a kid. Today is a big release day. We've
got a Mavericks bounty out for a card that we'll
talk about a little bit later on.
Speaker 5 (11:12):
But athletes are in the I gotta hear about it.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
It's good. It's this is like multimillion dollar kind of
thing in the collector's world. The Mavericks put up a
whole suite of things that they'd like to offer you
if you pull this off. So we'll get into that
coming up in about twenty twenty minutes or though. But
the last couple of years they've had the ability to
make college cards, and it's just funny. As you know,
(11:36):
you're ripping a pack of say the collegiate cards from
two years ago, it's like, yeah, that guy's moved three
schools already. It's not even close to being accurates, like, wait,
he's And you'll watch people doing the breaks like yeah,
there's a quarterback and they'll read off whatever the team
is like yeah, no, not only did he move, he's
moved again. Yeah, and just trying to explain. It's fuzzy
(12:00):
math at this point when you get down to it.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
So yeah, yeah, it's it's really wild. It's amazing, which
is why when you look at like Oregon bringing back
more and then look at his backup, So Dante Moor
is there and his backup is Dylan Reyola, who was
that you know, five star recruit for Nebraska.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
Was supposed to be that guy. Yeah exactly. But you know,
strange circumstance, the opportunity to go in and rehab something,
maybe in your throwing motion, whatever the case may be.
Go to a big school, take a bag, take as
many bags as you can get, as we well know,
in whatever industry you're in, out there listening as part
(12:46):
of our extended family. Set yourself up as best you
can and try to reset where things are. When you
look at the quarterback market going into the next year.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
Well, when you stay in school, I mean seriously sure,
yeah at this point, Yeah, I don't blame any that's
my advice to any kid. Stay in school and get
that NI on money.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
Yeah, once upon a time, you know, and I used
to get a lot of hate mail for it. I
was very much on the hey, if you can register
to vote, you should be able to go and pursue
your chosen path. Right, Yes, teams would have to be
protected from themselves, and that was kind of the ruling. So, hey,
you have to go to college for football for three
years and whatever else. But look, colleges aren't closing. I
(13:31):
can go home tonight and work on a doctorate degree
in my underpants if I feel like it. But in
this case, we're talking about adding a couple of million
dollars instead of going to the pros where there's no guarantees, right,
especially once you get out of the first first round
and a half or so. Right after that, it's a
roll down. And if you're a basketball player, forget it.
(13:52):
I'm playing every minute unless you guarantee me ironclad. I'm
top fifteen and I'm not falling out of the I
guess that's fourteen. But either way, at the point being like,
if I'm a first rounder, I get my guaranteed money,
but it's going to be smaller than a lot of
the bags I'm getting at these colleges at this point.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
Well, and the other aspect is you're also your bodies
maturing and your game is becoming well rounded. Right, Like
one of the issues that the NBA, this college world
is doing wonders for the NBA because now kids come
out and then know how to play, They're smarter, their
(14:32):
bodies are more mature. When it was the one and
done world, I mean, so all guys that their bodies
weren't were still frail, they were still young. They were
like half baked pies coming out of school. And now
they're fully baked and coming out and you make a difference.
Speaker 5 (14:50):
No, that's it, and that's the decision that we see.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
I mean, still a lot of those first picks this
time around, we were one and donees and that's gonna
be be the case. But you're gonna get contributors and
guys through the back end of the first round.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
Well that's why the dress, that's why the drifts deep. Now, yeah, right,
Like so you're still gonna have your anomalies, your anomalies.
The kids that are ready, you know, like Jeremiah Smith
doesn't need to like he didn't he came into Ohio
stated at seventeen years old, right, he didn't need to
go reclass Like I have two two athletes, and in fact,
(15:26):
my little one's going to reclass Like that's the I
tried to get my big one to do. But he
was he wasn't and he didn't feel like it, right,
which is which is fine.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
Which is a whole other Uh yeah, I mean that's
a doctor.
Speaker 4 (15:37):
That was his decision. Yeah. But and he's key's on
the older side, whereas my little ones on the younger side.
And like that that's athletes now after reclass and you
want to be older going into college. But like Jeremiah
Smith is an anomaly. Right. So the the early top
of the draft, whether it's the NBA or NFL, I mean,
(15:59):
those guys are nice such of the NBA, those guys
are anomalies. But you know, four through the rest of
the first round, the old the yard at better yard.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
Get those the wear and tear the extra miles on
the body. It's funny because on one of the monitors,
as we are in the Hall of Fame game and
celebrating the guys going in Larry Fitzgerald, that was always
one of the big deals when he came out of
Pitt was, you know, the three years beyond his high
school graduation date because of the change of schools and
(16:30):
what he did heading into Pitt before. So there was
the debate of is he even eligible for that two
thousand and four draft, and he was and went on
and dominated. And now we're watching the Cardinals and we're
thinking about the over under three and a half wins,
a far cry from the teams he played with for
a while there with Kurt Warner and Kwan Bolden, et cetera.
(16:51):
But yeah, it's just the changing face of the game.
And while we're talking about it getting older as you
entered the draft, either for football or for basketball, the
fact that we're going back to three yards and a
cloud of dust, okay in ninety dump off passes, making
the running back maybe not King again, Anthony, but at
(17:11):
least having a seat at the table where they'd kind
of been pushed aside, saying all right, your interchangeable parts,
this will fit make and model, and it's like, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 5 (17:21):
It's like when you change out a printer cartridge.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
And it's they're smart enough now where they can read
that it's not factory direct, like, no, no, no, you got
some bootleg version. You're trying to skim a couple of bucks.
That's what we've done with the running back position in
a lot of cities and a lot of towns for
many a year. And all of you out there, your
fan bases, you're looking around going, yeah, we had those
three guys. They did not combine to be one good
(17:48):
running back. And now we're seeing guys get paid. Jonathan Taylor,
Jamiir Gibbs. Today we had the Bijon Robinson. Here's your
combat pay for the four hundred. Is gonna break James
Wilder's record? That's the question I asked coming into the season.
Speaker 4 (18:04):
Now, wow, it's a great bust out four.
Speaker 5 (18:06):
Ninety two in nineteen eighty four.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
Yeah, yeah, I mean, imagine what touches he's going to get, Like,
it's going to be ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
The dump offs from either pandas or two all day
long bus.
Speaker 4 (18:20):
Thumpoff is that? Do you remember eight Chan last year?
This that's what it's going to be. He's going to
get all kinds of touches. There's no alchiers behind them.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
Now, yeah, he's off and pacing as part of this
new look squad over here. So now looking at thinking
about e Chan's contract, because that's uh, let's say he
got his four year extension for sixty four million, which
seems like a pittance compared to what the rest of
these guys are now trucking home with the Jonathan Taylor
(18:51):
one is interesting to me, just a little bit of
a different back, not that he doesn't catch the ball
out of the backfield, but the question of how many
miles of tread are left on those tires. Cause as
we've gone into the fantasy football universe the last couple
of years, that's been one of the questions, and in
terms of draft status and certainly historically what's happened to
(19:13):
running backs, but the curiosity. Now you've got Indianapolis trying
to make that push. We talked a little bit about
the NFC South, AFC South. It's there to go to
go fight the Texans for it. Uh. And a lot
of that's going to be on the legs of Taylor.
But just for me, you know.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
Something might they're still underpaid though for what for how
important they are? Look go look at Zay Flowers contract, right,
go look at some of the receiver contract.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
I did a bit in Baltimore earlier today then, and
I just said, so you guys got thoughts like, yeah,
we're not spending your segment on this. Yeah, there's too much.
Speaker 5 (19:52):
You want to come hang out for a day, you
can do that.
Speaker 4 (19:54):
I'm like, all right, I mean it's true, right, Like,
look get that, look a look at those rics. They're
still getting paid the back I I you know, listen,
I always will pour one out for running back man
because they earn their.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
Money standing out between twenty to twenty five touches, maybe
more depending on your squad.
Speaker 4 (20:18):
Uh.

And what that split.

Look at Gibbs. What's good Gibbs? They like touches. Gibbs
going to get this year?
Speaker 3 (20:23):
Well, I mean Montgomery's gone right mentioned the Houston Texans,
so he's not there anymore.

Checko was behind him.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
Yeah, that's a lot of gibbs, right, which I mean, look,
you've had him for a couple of years where he
didn't use him a ton. I remember John Robinson Like
that was the running joke was they basically kept him
in a box for that first year with Tyler all
year being there, right, and then all of a sudden
he's like, Hey, maybe maybe this guy can be that
every down. It's like he's a running back and I
(20:53):
love the position. Right, I'm a Chicago kid. So give
me Matt Suey blocking for Walter Payton and I'm good
to go. H Neil Anderson after that and keep on
going on down the line. Brad Muster, how about that?
How's the ultra back Raymond Harris? I could do this?
Speaker 4 (21:09):
How's it feel that you actually have a quarterback though?
That's what I want to know, after all those years
of the worst collection of the quarterbacks in the history
of the league, what's it like that you have a
quarterback right now?
Speaker 3 (21:22):
Well, remember we had a blip on the radar where
there was some downfield passing with Eric Kramer way back
in the day. There was a lot of weeks want
wanting and hoping with the j Cutler era. Uh, you
know where receivers were going to die and Cutler like
folks had a liking problem with him. Uh And now
(21:44):
with Caleb Williams, there's still that level of curiosity and
folks will point to the completion percentage a lot, Anthony
and I say, until as soon as he learns how
to do the dump off pass, which has not been
part of his mo whether it's at USC or the
first couple of years in Chicago, completion percentage, you can
bump that five percent pretty fast, right. It's the.
Speaker 4 (22:09):
Ben Johnson is a great coach, just a great coach,
and so much of it and you know this, right,
so much of when it comes to the quarterback is
where you're going, what's the system moving? That's exactly it.
And your Caleb got saved. Caleb got saved the fact
(22:33):
that he's got Ben Johnson. And you you follow that
team closely, you saw right from the beginning of just
the evolution of him from the beginning of the season
from training camp on and what he was at the
end of July to January and the strides he made.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
But I mean the fact that they let Eberflus come
back to the sideline to start the twenty four season
had many online therapy sessions about this this way, you
needed a guy to just get in and let him jump,
not a guy who was a lame duck coach, and
you watched it unfold to where they quit. And then
(23:16):
you've got Caleb talking about sitting in the meeting room
by himself because that's how disconnected and confused that whole
situation was. How Poles came kept his job is still
beyond me. But that you know, now you've got Ben Johnson,
it's an era of goodwill. Yeah, will there be? And
this was one of my favorite stories of the week
(23:38):
was the fight about the regression that Liam Cohen felt disrespected,
that they weren't disrespected by being on the regression list,
and that it was all about the Bears, like sorry,
you're in Jacksonville, Bears. And so for Caleb and company,
perhaps you don't need the spectacular finishes. Perhaps it's more
(24:00):
operationally efficient. You know, in year two preach about the
coaches GM and everything. Continuity means a lot.

Maybe we'll talk about that in Philly as you've got
another offensive coordinator once again.

Yeah, the revolving OC. I think this one's sharp. That
the offense that they're putting in is completely different.

Yeah, they are. They're an interesting squad and I'm hoping
it runs through the first three plus months now have
been fantastic. Mindrop, the former Red Sox prospect, doing some

Chapman's one of those guys that is like, all right,
you respect the talent. But yeah, we'll leave it at

that for folks. You can go and hit the Google
machine for the rest of it. But nine to nine games, look,
we'll take him offense is good for everybody here across
Major League Baseball. Certainly some teams looking to get rid
of some of the power outages that they've had. But yeah,
the White Sox getting a little bit of help earlier today,
So yeah, some opportunity, I mean they got help from

the Mets, who scored thirteen runs for crying out loud,
So that might be as much as they've scored in
a week's time. Yeah, over the goods. You know, it's
kind of a crazy time, but we'll keep it on
that game Hall of Fame. We just had Roger Craig
running around. They showed him going onto the field. Does
he get a cut of anything these running backs are making?
Speaker 4 (26:55):
He should? He was the original catch the ball out
of the backfield back. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
I used to years, you know, doing my stump speeches
of how's this guy not in the Hall of Fame.
But when you play with the squad replete with Hall
of Fame or someone's got to be last, I guess.
Speaker 4 (27:11):
So there you have it, real quick, real quick, and
then I want to hear the story, but real quick.
We grew up, you know, during that era, watched that stuff.
Doesn't it feel like prehistoric times?
Speaker 5 (27:22):

No, there's no question the game is bigger, faster, stronger.
Just the way offenses are run. It's light years. I mean,
I I just remember the Big ten that I went
to Northwestern, right and what I watched there and then
Joe Tiller showed up with Drew Brees, who you know,
was just smiling and waving as he gets ready for
Canton as well, and that offense was unlike anything you'd seen.

And then teams started to replicate that and we started
spreading the ball and doing all these things.
Speaker 5 (27:53):
It's like, yeah, we're not in Kansas anymore.
Speaker 3 (27:56):
So I love my plotting running backs, and any team
that still employs a full back, damn it, you're gonna
get my vote of confidence and my support along the way,
guys sticking their helmet in and just getting to work
in between the tackles. But yeah, it's it's light years
from the game. We we watched some of the old
tape and you just start laughings like wow, that's you
(28:18):
know how thin some of the the linemen were, or
the exact opposite. It's like those guys are gonna run
right past him. In today's NFL with with the bohemas that.
Speaker 4 (28:29):
Are running right like when you watch like old games
and all the speed. Now it's it's just wild.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
Yeah, you watch cornerbacks or certainly the safeties coming up
for big hits, it's it's a different animal, all right.
So here you go Cooper Flag one of one debut
patch autograph card out of a new Tops Chrome update,
and I'm watching on my stream. I've got a big
MODEGA cards, which is Karl Anthony Towns. He and his

team are ripping one hundred cases of this, trying to
pull these big cards. But you get so. You know,
there was a no TAWI card for frame of reference
for folks that had logo patches and a Kang autograph
and a regular autograph that went for over twelve million
dollars about two weeks ago. So to put things in perspective,
here Flag not quite to that level, but certainly enough
(29:15):
bounties out here. But here's what the Mavericks said. They
want part of it, Unlike when Paul Skeens had his
logo patch and the Pirates didn't bother and then eventually
they looked silly because it only went for a million bucks.
And I say only because of where the market is
right now. But two Mavericks season premium lower level tickets
for thirty two years, a signed game warn Cooper Flag

jersey rookie jersey that is a postgame photo op with
Cooper Flag, private photo shoot with the Rookie of the
Year Trophy and the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy. Okay, the
one that they want or the one on loan for
the Knicks VIP tour of the Mavericks practice facility with
a team meet and greet. I had basketball experience for

up to ten guests at American Airlines Center. You could
be like those guys that were trying out for that
G League. How great was that?

We'll circle back to that because it was the best
road trip experience to see the Mavericks versus the Celtics. Airfare, hotel,
game tickets. I will have to do the math on
what tickets in the Lower Bowl are for the Mavericks.
That's pretty good package. I'll still take the cash.

Yeah, it's gonna be a couple of million. And I
don't have to fly in or out of or move

guy is probably gonna get suspended for his off field stuff.

You've got two great skill position players and two quarterbacks
that I don't think anybody trusts the cobble together anywhere
close to a seventeen game schedule, even if we voltron them,
I don't think we're getting there.

And now I just don't my Hagard and I love Kevin.
He's a really bright, offensive guy. He knows offense really well.
He came from quarterback hell in Cleveland, and this is
like one level towards purgatory. I mean, my god, I've
felt bad. I'm like, dude, you had a deal with

Deshaun Watson and then all the other fallout from their
shit door and everything else, and now you go to
Atlanta and you're looking at those two guys. I mean, Mike, God,
give the guy a quarterback, please.

So in your tell All book, years after these guys
are all retired, you'll give us some of the uh,
the lowdown from the couple of years there with Cleveland
and Deshaun Watson. I'm sure, there are plenty of stories
that that didn't make airwaves when you guys met up.

you could see the beauty of like those those coaches.

right until the guy gets punched in his face. Right,

to do? I can't leave the guy, you know, I
have to come in.

I swear was there for like thirty minutes, and I'm

I mean they're giving me a thrill this this summer,

Montgomery and Vargas and I mean they could rake.

It's a fun squad. A lot of a lot of
like youthful power and the fact that they bought at
the deadline. Now were they headlined bys No, but they
were active and not sending guys out, which is something
I have not seen in a very very long time.

Plenty of time to get into all of that.

Seven to six White Socks with a lead going into
the ninth trying to stave off that sweep uh there
against the Red Sox, so keeping an eye on that.
We got the Hall of Fame game winding through into
the fourth quarter. Again, we've hit the over and football
is back, so we celebrate in grand order.

He doesn't look good, seriously, Yeah, it doesn't even look normal. Absolutely,
Oh my god, I freaking love it.

The grad. You know, the field looks a little greener,
the the uniforms even though they're wearing the uh, the
inkpen red like you're about to get a bunch of
things wrong on a test.

What's that mean for you?

But I was arguing with a buddy by today, uh
on my show, and because I was like all geeked
up for the game tonight and they're like, oh, Hall
of Fame game and it's Caraliva Arizona, and I go, dude,
it's Carson Back. Man, you like what you look for
to watch Carson Back? I mean, just watch the champion,
the whole thing. Come on. And everybody loves to mock

the preseason in the Hall of Fame game, and yet
they're they're all watching it. When you go to the
NFL last for five months, all right, that's why we're NBA.
It's a ten month season, MLB is a ten month season,
NHL is a ten month season, NFL's five months. Football's

five months. Can we get soaking every bit of it
without mocking it?

Well, that's the running joke on the show is Jason
laughs at me all the time, Anthony, it's like, I
celebrate all two hundred and seventy two of them.

where they went to college. Yes, the older I get,
I'm not as good at it anymore. It's kind of
like you know a broadcaster that that's been doing games.
You know, former player who knew the coordinators and coaches
and whatever, and once they cycle out, they don't know
them quite the same way. Big ten, I'm pretty pretty
(10:25):
locked in on rest of college football because of guys
bouncing around. It's a little harder and keep them keep tabs.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
Well, you know, it's funny. We should do the same
thing that we would my front all my buddies would
get together and we'd always give you the college game.
Where'd he go? Where'd he go? But you're right with
the portal. It's it's completely wild, how it is. Like
you know now now that game is can you name
the four schools that treated that Chamblet's went to? No?
Speaker 3 (10:56):
But that's it, right, Like I'm a big in my
spare time, I'm a big trading card memorabilia kind of guy.
Speaker 4 (11:02):
Right.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
I love love the trading. I like it since I
was a kid. Today is a big release day. We've
got a Mavericks bounty out for a card that we'll
talk about a little bit later on.
Speaker 5 (11:12):
But athletes are in the I gotta hear about it.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
It's good. It's this is like multimillion dollar kind of
thing in the collector's world. The Mavericks put up a
whole suite of things that they'd like to offer you
if you pull this off. So we'll get into that
coming up in about twenty twenty minutes or though. But
the last couple of years they've had the ability to
make college cards, and it's just funny. As you know,
(11:36):
you're ripping a pack of say the collegiate cards from
two years ago, it's like, yeah, that guy's moved three
schools already. It's not even close to being accurates, like, wait,
he's And you'll watch people doing the breaks like yeah,
there's a quarterback and they'll read off whatever the team
is like yeah, no, not only did he move, he's
moved again. Yeah, and just trying to explain. It's fuzzy
(12:00):
math at this point when you get down to it.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
So yeah, yeah, it's it's really wild. It's amazing, which
is why when you look at like Oregon bringing back
more and then look at his backup, So Dante Moor
is there and his backup is Dylan Reyola, who was
that you know, five star recruit for Nebraska.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
Was supposed to be that guy. Yeah exactly. But you know,
strange circumstance, the opportunity to go in and rehab something,
maybe in your throwing motion, whatever the case may be.
Go to a big school, take a bag, take as
many bags as you can get, as we well know,
in whatever industry you're in, out there listening as part
(12:46):
of our extended family. Set yourself up as best you
can and try to reset where things are. When you
look at the quarterback market going into the next year.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
Well, when you stay in school, I mean seriously sure,
yeah at this point, Yeah, I don't blame any that's
my advice to any kid. Stay in school and get
that NI on money.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
Yeah, once upon a time, you know, and I used
to get a lot of hate mail for it. I
was very much on the hey, if you can register
to vote, you should be able to go and pursue
your chosen path. Right, Yes, teams would have to be
protected from themselves, and that was kind of the ruling. So, hey,
you have to go to college for football for three
years and whatever else. But look, colleges aren't closing. I
(13:31):
can go home tonight and work on a doctorate degree
in my underpants if I feel like it. But in
this case, we're talking about adding a couple of million
dollars instead of going to the pros where there's no guarantees, right,
especially once you get out of the first first round
and a half or so. Right after that, it's a
roll down. And if you're a basketball player, forget it.
(13:52):
I'm playing every minute unless you guarantee me ironclad. I'm
top fifteen and I'm not falling out of the I
guess that's fourteen. But either way, at the point being like,
if I'm a first rounder, I get my guaranteed money,
but it's going to be smaller than a lot of
the bags I'm getting at these colleges at this point.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
Well, and the other aspect is you're also your bodies
maturing and your game is becoming well rounded. Right, Like
one of the issues that the NBA, this college world
is doing wonders for the NBA because now kids come
out and then know how to play, They're smarter, their
(14:32):
bodies are more mature. When it was the one and
done world, I mean, so all guys that their bodies
weren't were still frail, they were still young. They were
like half baked pies coming out of school. And now
they're fully baked and coming out and you make a difference.
Speaker 5 (14:50):
No, that's it, and that's the decision that we see.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
I mean, still a lot of those first picks this
time around, we were one and donees and that's gonna
be be the case. But you're gonna get contributors and
guys through the back end of the first round.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
Well that's why the dress, that's why the drifts deep. Now, yeah, right,
Like so you're still gonna have your anomalies, your anomalies.
The kids that are ready, you know, like Jeremiah Smith
doesn't need to like he didn't he came into Ohio
stated at seventeen years old, right, he didn't need to
go reclass Like I have two two athletes, and in fact,
(15:26):
my little one's going to reclass Like that's the I
tried to get my big one to do. But he
was he wasn't and he didn't feel like it, right,
which is which is fine.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
Which is a whole other Uh yeah, I mean that's
a doctor.
Speaker 4 (15:37):
That was his decision. Yeah. But and he's key's on
the older side, whereas my little ones on the younger side.
And like that that's athletes now after reclass and you
want to be older going into college. But like Jeremiah
Smith is an anomaly. Right. So the the early top
of the draft, whether it's the NBA or NFL, I mean,
(15:59):
those guys are nice such of the NBA, those guys
are anomalies. But you know, four through the rest of
the first round, the old the yard at better yard.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
Get those the wear and tear the extra miles on
the body. It's funny because on one of the monitors,
as we are in the Hall of Fame game and
celebrating the guys going in Larry Fitzgerald, that was always
one of the big deals when he came out of
Pitt was, you know, the three years beyond his high
school graduation date because of the change of schools and
(16:30):
what he did heading into Pitt before. So there was
the debate of is he even eligible for that two
thousand and four draft, and he was and went on
and dominated. And now we're watching the Cardinals and we're
thinking about the over under three and a half wins,
a far cry from the teams he played with for
a while there with Kurt Warner and Kwan Bolden, et cetera.
(16:51):
But yeah, it's just the changing face of the game.
And while we're talking about it getting older as you
entered the draft, either for football or for basketball, the
fact that we're going back to three yards and a
cloud of dust, okay in ninety dump off passes, making
the running back maybe not King again, Anthony, but at
(17:11):
least having a seat at the table where they'd kind
of been pushed aside, saying all right, your interchangeable parts,
this will fit make and model, and it's like, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 5 (17:21):
It's like when you change out a printer cartridge.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
And it's they're smart enough now where they can read
that it's not factory direct, like, no, no, no, you got
some bootleg version. You're trying to skim a couple of bucks.
That's what we've done with the running back position in
a lot of cities and a lot of towns for
many a year. And all of you out there, your
fan bases, you're looking around going, yeah, we had those
three guys. They did not combine to be one good
(17:48):
running back. And now we're seeing guys get paid. Jonathan Taylor,
Jamiir Gibbs. Today we had the Bijon Robinson. Here's your
combat pay for the four hundred. Is gonna break James
Wilder's record? That's the question I asked coming into the season.
Speaker 4 (18:04):
Now, wow, it's a great bust out four.
Speaker 5 (18:06):
Ninety two in nineteen eighty four.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
Yeah, yeah, I mean, imagine what touches he's going to get, Like,
it's going to be ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
The dump offs from either pandas or two all day
long bus.
Speaker 4 (18:20):
Thumpoff is that? Do you remember eight Chan last year?
This that's what it's going to be. He's going to
get all kinds of touches. There's no alchiers behind them.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
Now, yeah, he's off and pacing as part of this
new look squad over here. So now looking at thinking
about e Chan's contract, because that's uh, let's say he
got his four year extension for sixty four million, which
seems like a pittance compared to what the rest of
these guys are now trucking home with the Jonathan Taylor
(18:51):
one is interesting to me, just a little bit of
a different back, not that he doesn't catch the ball
out of the backfield, but the question of how many
miles of tread are left on those tires. Cause as
we've gone into the fantasy football universe the last couple
of years, that's been one of the questions, and in
terms of draft status and certainly historically what's happened to
(19:13):
running backs, but the curiosity. Now you've got Indianapolis trying
to make that push. We talked a little bit about
the NFC South, AFC South. It's there to go to
go fight the Texans for it. Uh. And a lot
of that's going to be on the legs of Taylor.
But just for me, you know.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
Something might they're still underpaid though for what for how
important they are? Look go look at Zay Flowers contract, right,
go look at some of the receiver contract.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
I did a bit in Baltimore earlier today then, and
I just said, so you guys got thoughts like, yeah,
we're not spending your segment on this. Yeah, there's too much.
Speaker 5 (19:52):
You want to come hang out for a day, you
can do that.
Speaker 4 (19:54):
I'm like, all right, I mean it's true, right, Like,
look get that, look a look at those rics. They're
still getting paid the back I I you know, listen,
I always will pour one out for running back man
because they earn their.

Money standing out between twenty to twenty five touches, maybe
more depending on your squad.

Uh.

And what that split.

Look at Gibbs. What's good Gibbs? They like touches. Gibbs
going to get this year?
Speaker 3 (20:23):
Well, I mean Montgomery's gone right mentioned the Houston Texans,
so he's not there anymore.

Checko was behind him.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
Yeah, that's a lot of gibbs, right, which I mean, look,
you've had him for a couple of years where he
didn't use him a ton. I remember John Robinson Like
that was the running joke was they basically kept him
in a box for that first year with Tyler all
year being there, right, and then all of a sudden
he's like, Hey, maybe maybe this guy can be that
every down. It's like he's a running back and I
(20:53):
love the position. Right, I'm a Chicago kid. So give
me Matt Suey blocking for Walter Payton and I'm good
to go. H Neil Anderson after that and keep on
going on down the line. Brad Muster, how about that?

How's it feel that you actually have a quarterback though?
That's what I want to know, after all those years
of the worst collection of the quarterbacks in the history
of the league, what's it like that you have a
quarterback right now?
Speaker 3 (21:22):
Well, remember we had a blip on the radar where
there was some downfield passing with Eric Kramer way back
in the day. There was a lot of weeks want
wanting and hoping with the j Cutler era. Uh, you
know where receivers were going to die and Cutler like
folks had a liking problem with him. Uh And now
(21:44):
with Caleb Williams, there's still that level of curiosity and
folks will point to the completion percentage a lot, Anthony
and I say, until as soon as he learns how
to do the dump off pass, which has not been
part of his mo whether it's at USC or the
first couple of years in Chicago, completion percentage, you can
bump that five percent pretty fast, right. It's the.
Speaker 4 (22:09):
Ben Johnson is a great coach, just a great coach,
and so much of it and you know this, right,
so much of when it comes to the quarterback is
where you're going, what's the system moving? That's exactly it.
And your Caleb got saved. Caleb got saved the fact
(22:33):
that he's got Ben Johnson. And you you follow that
team closely, you saw right from the beginning of just
the evolution of him from the beginning of the season
from training camp on and what he was at the
end of July to January and the strides he made.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
But I mean the fact that they let Eberflus come
back to the sideline to start the twenty four season
had many online therapy sessions about this this way, you
needed a guy to just get in and let him jump,
not a guy who was a lame duck coach, and
you watched it unfold to where they quit. And then
(23:16):
you've got Caleb talking about sitting in the meeting room
by himself because that's how disconnected and confused that whole
situation was. How Poles came kept his job is still
beyond me. But that you know, now you've got Ben Johnson,
it's an era of goodwill. Yeah, will there be? And
this was one of my favorite stories of the week
(23:38):
was the fight about the regression that Liam Cohen felt disrespected,
that they weren't disrespected by being on the regression list,
and that it was all about the Bears, like sorry,
you're in Jacksonville, Bears. And so for Caleb and company,
perhaps you don't need the spectacular finishes. Perhaps it's more
(24:00):
operationally efficient. You know, in year two preach about the
coaches GM and everything. Continuity means a lot.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (24:08):
Maybe we'll talk about that in Philly as you've got
another offensive coordinator once again.
Speaker 4 (24:14):
Yeah, the revolving OC. I think this one's sharp. That
the offense that they're putting in is completely different.

Yeah, they are. They're an interesting squad and I'm hoping

been fantastic. Mindrop, the former Red Sox prospect, doing some
damage off of Chatman too, which is good. You know.
Chapman's one of those guys that is like, all right,
you respect the talent. But yeah, we'll leave it at

that for folks. You can go and hit the Google
machine for the rest of it. But nine to nine games, look,
we'll take him offense is good for everybody here across
Major League Baseball. Certainly some teams looking to get rid
of some of the power outages that they've had. But yeah,
the White Sox getting a little bit of help earlier today,
So yeah, some opportunity, I mean they got help from

the Mets, who scored thirteen runs for crying out loud,
So that might be as much as they've scored in
a week's time. Yeah, over the goods. You know, it's
kind of a crazy time, but we'll keep it on
that game Hall of Fame. We just had Roger Craig
running around. They showed him going onto the field. Does
he get a cut of anything these running backs are making?
Speaker 4 (26:55):
He should? He was the original catch the ball out
of the backfield back. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
I used to years, you know, doing my stump speeches
of how's this guy not in the Hall of Fame.
But when you play with the squad replete with Hall
of Fame or someone's got to be last, I guess.
Speaker 4 (27:11):
So there you have it, real quick, real quick, and
then I want to hear the story, but real quick.
We grew up, you know, during that era, watched that stuff.
Doesn't it feel like prehistoric times?
Speaker 5 (27:22):
Yeah?

That's here to now.
Speaker 3 (27:25):
No, there's no question the game is bigger, faster, stronger.
Just the way offenses are run. It's light years. I mean,
I I just remember the Big ten that I went
to Northwestern, right and what I watched there and then
Joe Tiller showed up with Drew Brees, who you know,
was just smiling and waving as he gets ready for
Canton as well, and that offense was unlike anything you'd seen.
(27:48):
And then teams started to replicate that and we started
spreading the ball and doing all these things.
Speaker 5 (27:53):
It's like, yeah, we're not in Kansas anymore.
Speaker 3 (27:56):
So I love my plotting running backs, and any team
that still employs a full back, damn it, you're gonna
get my vote of confidence and my support along the way,
guys sticking their helmet in and just getting to work
in between the tackles. But yeah, it's it's light years
from the game. We we watched some of the old
tape and you just start laughings like wow, that's you
(28:18):
know how thin some of the the linemen were, or
the exact opposite. It's like those guys are gonna run
right past him. In today's NFL with with the bohemas that.
Speaker 4 (28:29):
Are running right like when you watch like old games
and all the speed. Now it's it's just wild.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
Yeah, you watch cornerbacks or certainly the safeties coming up
for big hits, it's it's a different animal, all right.
So here you go Cooper Flag one of one debut
patch autograph card out of a new Tops Chrome update,
and I'm watching on my stream. I've got a big
MODEGA cards, which is Karl Anthony Towns. He and his

team are ripping one hundred cases of this, trying to
pull these big cards. But you get so. You know,
there was a no TAWI card for frame of reference
for folks that had logo patches and a Kang autograph
and a regular autograph that went for over twelve million
dollars about two weeks ago. So to put things in perspective,
here Flag not quite to that level, but certainly enough
(29:15):
bounties out here. But here's what the Mavericks said. They
want part of it, Unlike when Paul Skeens had his
logo patch and the Pirates didn't bother and then eventually
they looked silly because it only went for a million bucks.
And I say only because of where the market is
right now. But two Mavericks season premium lower level tickets
for thirty two years, a signed game warn Cooper Flag
(29:39):
jersey rookie jersey that is a postgame photo op with
Cooper Flag, private photo shoot with the Rookie of the
Year Trophy and the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy. Okay, the
one that they want or the one on loan for
the Knicks VIP tour of the Mavericks practice facility with
a team meet and greet. I had basketball experience for

up to ten guests at American Airlines Center. You could
be like those guys that were trying out for that
G League. How great was that?
Speaker 4 (30:10):
Yah?
Speaker 3 (30:10):
We'll circle back to that because it was the best
road trip experience to see the Mavericks versus the Celtics. Airfare, hotel,
game tickets. I will have to do the math on
what tickets in the Lower Bowl are for the Mavericks.
That's pretty good package. I'll still take the cash.

Give me the money.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
Yeah, it's gonna be a couple of million. And I
don't have to fly in or out of or move
to Texas to make this thing happen. Not that I'm
