You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Greetings, Welcome inside, Happy Halloween, The Jason Smith Show with
my bas friend Mike Harmon. Let's get it going where
today is kind of like I feel like, you know, yes,
Jason the Friday the third time, I'm like the cousin
of Halloween. Like it's like, Okay, hey, my cousin's in town,
and all right, Michael Myers is hosting everybody and that.
(00:51):
That's kind of so I'm kind of have a little
bit of ownership of Halloween. But I'm like like a
cousin in town rather than hey, it's my day, Like
if it was Friday the thirteenth, I would say that. Well,
I mean you should still be a big host.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
I mean make sure there's enough food and beverages and
all of that fun stuff as your Syracuse. Orange are
now getting worked by Bill Belichick. As we watched World
Series and Bulls Nicks, all of these things, trick or treating, candy, stress, eating.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
All of it. There's too much, man, There's too much hot,
there's too much sports, man, there's to it. You want
to give me college football, you want to give me
the World Series, you want to give me the NBA.
But don't give me all of them. Man, come on,
it's Halloween, after all. Would you like a little bit
of hockey over the top. It's waffer thin. I spent
most of the day that our favorite things to do
on Halloween, my wife and I we drive around doing errands.
(01:39):
And this is the first time able to do it
with Zoe is that we have this really great Michael
Myers mask. And every time we're driving around, like I'll
just wear it in the car and like we'll stop
at a light and I will just turn really slow
and look at the people next to me, and then
they look at you, and they can't they can't not
look at you. And it's it's really really fun. You're
really into risky. Man's really fun that we mean, that
(02:01):
tells me a lot about you. Oh, it's fun like
I like, it's like okay, like and and I take
a measured approach to it, like along if there's a
couple of bits, if there's a couple of people in
their eighties who are driving, I'm not gonna do that.
I don't want to scare. But if there's you know,
someone listening to music or whatever, we're stopped at a light,
(02:23):
you know, I'll stand over and stare at them. No,
it's kind of fun. And they always look back like
they can't not look because they feel like if I
look away, I lose. It's like if I'm looking at it,
So they got it. Just keep staring and you just
keep staring at you and and all you gotta do
is have really big eyes because in that mask, it
doesn't matter. It looks really really scary. Then sometimes I'll
let them off the hook while I just really slowly
(02:45):
move my arm like I'm moving to get something, and
then I'll just bring my Starbucks to my mouth and drink,
and then the people will laugh and then the light
will turn green and will go. So sometimes I'll do
that once in a while and yeah, yeah, uh that's
and really Halloween today, And we'll get to the World Series.
In a second, by way of this, everybody today is
(03:10):
a different kind of energy because it's Halloween. When you're
driving around during the day, when you're out at night,
it is Halloween. The energy in Los Angeles today was
just weird because you had people who are already who
were dressing up for Halloween and are festive, and then
every other person that's not in a costume is wearing
something Dodgers, and they you could tell they are just
(03:32):
nervous as hell, and they don't understand how the World
Series is still going and how they're one game away
from losing. Like every Dodger fan just oohs that out
of their pores, Like I'm nervous and I don't know
why why this has happening the way it is, and
I don't have any answers, and I just have no
idea what else to do right now. But this is
what I do every day. So this is what I'm
(03:53):
doing every day. That's every single Dodger fan I saw today,
Ohzad walking.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
The dog this morning and then again this afternoon. You're
running into a bunch of people and Dodger gear that
you know from the neighborhood, and every one of them
started the same way. It's like, what is this, Like,
you know, a funny thing happens on the way to
a world championship. The other team shows up. I mean what,
I don't know, what do you want? My team's been
home a month.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
The other side's trying to right doing story. Everybody gets
pay to the other side's trying to Eventually, you need
to make a hit. You need to make a pitch.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
You need to I mean, all all of these things
play and and the beauty of it is, you know,
for us, I mean certainly for Fox. The longer you
extend a series, uh, the better for everybody involved. It's
not just about the Dodger fans. Good for the Globe
and relations with Cannon, I mean, because we have some
of those dopey Mayer bets that are out there for
(04:45):
maple syrup and stuff like that. Although I don't really
know what you give them from California.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
Avocado or some wine, avocados, cheese, cheese, avocados uh yeah,
oh yeah, from that from that restaurant. The wine that
he had when we were all locked away. Yeah no,
I mean all over that might have been a but
all of that to say, I want a gallon of poutine.
I just want to drink it. I don't you, don't
(05:12):
ever put anything else on it. Just give me like
I get like, instead of a gallon of milk, just
clean it out and give me a gallon of poutine
and I'm just gonna chug it and a straw. Oh no,
I don't want no, no, no, I want the full poutine.
I want it like pouring down my face onto my shirt.
Oh yeah, no, that's I want poutin Ye. That was disgusting.
That's a disgusting act. But as we sit right now,
(05:34):
Game six of the World Series, already in the top
of the seventh inning, this is what happens when not
a lot of runs are scored. But I could tell
you a couple of things for certain about the World Series.
First of all, maybe Mookie Bets should have been hitting
clean up all along. Finally, Mookie Betts has a hit tonight,
the biggest hit of the game for the Dodgers. He
drove in two runs with an RBI single to give
(05:56):
the Dodgers a three to one lead. Dodgers and Dave
Roberts dropped him to fourth in the batting order, so
he's gone from second to third to fourth. The lower
he gets, the more he hits, I would by it
put him ninth. So the changes so far to the Dodgers'
batting order. They did get three runs in the third inning. Uh,
but still it's not been a great night against Kevin Gossman,
who struck out seven of the first nine batters, and
(06:17):
now Varlins in in relief. So I think if you're Toronto,
you're saying to yourself, well, okay, it's still there for us.
It's not something that got out of control. So yeah,
the Dodgers hit a little bit more than expected. And
this is where we are right now, which brings me
into my second point, which is I could tell you
for certain right now, and this is absolutely my carmon,
(06:40):
And you can say, oh no, no, how do you know?
The World Series is not over yet. I can tell
you who's going to win World Series MVP. I could
tell you. You can tell me right now, top of the
seventh inning. I could top of the seventh inning, a
game six, Everything in balance, everything in flux, I can
tell you who's gonna win you ready, okay, all right?
If the Dodgers win the World Series, Yamamoto's the MVP. Yeah. Yeah.
(07:03):
If the Blue Jays win the World Series, it's Vlad Junior.
That's it. That's how it goes. Right now, I think
it hard to not give it to you, savage, no
matter what his name's you savage, Come on right, you savage,
classy bougie savage. But I mean, look, it's it's hard
to not give it. Very head. I know Mary loved
(07:28):
that though. She just sat back in the chair and
just the head started going back and forth very slowly.
You savage, classy bougie. Uh but really, I mean, look,
because if you're the Dodgers and you win this game,
it's because Yamamoto gets you there. Here he is through
six innings, and he has pitched terrific. He gets out
of the jam in the in the in the bottom
(07:49):
of the sixth inning with first and second and two outs,
he struck out six. Maybe he's got another inning. He
is at ninety six pitches. If you're Dave Roberts, you
don't want to go there and until you absolutely have to.
And Chojo Tani's not warming up, so it looks like
he's gonna stay in as a batter. But if they
win the World Series. It's all right, Freddie Freeman hit
(08:10):
the big walk off home run in Game three, But
what Yamoto did in game two and what he's doing tonight,
if he goes fifteen or sixteen innings total and gives
up one run, he's gonna win. The MVP doesn't matter.
Otani or Freeman would have to three home runs in games.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
Well, but that's the thing you get with caveat of
something crazy going on in Game seven. But the Yamamodo
pitch that he just made to varshow right he walks
bashett It's first and second, Guerrero's on second base gets
the punch out. I did a minifist bump right because
the emotion, Like I love to watch pitchers dominate. I
know you and Oral Herscheizer still have some hashing out
(08:49):
to be not starting pitching, but you know, I love
the normally reserved newsman that he is. Steve Desager. I
saw him half out of his chair the fist pump
as well on that pitch. So I love when the
emotion flows through and you see it and you watch
the crowd just all just it took the air right,
(09:11):
like that was a balloon that just started sailing off
as he walked off the mound like that was a
massive moment, you know.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
And and here's here's the thing is that with that
sequence right, like two out's nobody on Vlad Junior doubles
Bishett walks. That was a great at bat, by the way,
was fantastic, right, But Schette back was fantastic. But I'm
gonna go here. I wonder Yamamoto if his attitude wasn't. Okay,
I'm gonna be really careful with Guerrero. Guerrero gets a double,
(09:42):
I'm not giving into Bishette. If I walk him, that's
fine because I know I can get Dalton var Show, right,
Like Bishett has come back from being it. Look, he's
a great player, but he was injured. He's finding his
his his stick now. He's hitting pretty well since he's
come back from the injured list. So I wonder if
this was more Hey, I'm gonna be really here for
with Guerrero and Bishett probably throwing a few more pitches
(10:03):
to Bishett than he would have liked to. But okay,
and but because I know first and second two outs,
I feel fine because I know I'm gonna get var Show.
I feel really good about what's there with that, with
with him and Kirk coming up. Uh so if we
get we get away from them, I feel really good
about that. And then if I'm one more inning bottom
of the order, like what is he he's got the
bottom of the order coming up? If he's if he's
(10:23):
gonna pitch in the seventh inning, right, he's got Kirk
and Barjur and Clement and him and Az. So I
wonder if that was part of it for Yamamoto. Yeah,
no question right.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
I mean, look, you gotta be judicious with your pitches
and be selective, be be smart about your biggest threats.
And so he decided to go after son of Gary
Varshow Son.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
I'm going after son of Varshow. I don't care what
you have to.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
Say, son of Varshow Varshow's son. If we're in the
uh you know, the Viking world, now the other the
other thing? You like that, don't you?
Speaker 1 (10:54):
I like? No, the Viking world is great. Yeah, so
you're Donald Logan Vikings. Uh my guy, I'll see him
AT's next win show. By the way, I'll tell him,
you say, hi, we think so? Yeah, ask him why
did he leave sons of anarchy. Man, Come on, he
should have stayed on. He was really good? Uh? Is that?
You know? We spend so much time thinking about starting pitching, right,
and then you think about Yamamoto and the Dodgers and
loading up and Blake Snell and yeah, and how important
(11:16):
it is oral hershey is gonna hate me more after
what I say? After women say? But like, you think
all about this and how important it is to have
guys in an ace that can do that, and then
you watch things like Kevin Gossman starting Game six of
the World Series at thirty four. Who has been good
the last few years? Right, he's been a good pitcher.
(11:38):
Has he ever been great? No, he's ever been great?
But he has been good, like with a question mark,
like he's not He's not someone ever gonna anchor the
top of a rotation. But is he someone that will
always give you innings? Yeah? Like the guys the last
five years, he's certain eighty plus innings every single year, right,
six years with double digit wins, which are hard to
(12:00):
come by these days. The way we play Major League,
you know, every year is between ten and fourteen wins,
you know, between ten and fourteen losses. His era is
around three and a half. Yep, and he pitches around
one hundred and seventy one hundred and eighty innings. Like okay,
like that. That that's the baseball I grew up. That's it.
I mean that. I mean, you think we gotta have ases. No,
but you can have a guy like Kevin Gosman starting
(12:22):
Game six of the World Series, you would say, well,
it's a huge advenge for the Dodgers. Okay, Gospeb struck out,
so I thought he's gonna strike out twenty tonight. Crazy.
He was striking everybody out.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
I know, it was incredible. I'm just stuck in a
little bit of traffic. For the most part, the roads
were vacant. Everybody making their way to a television to
either go to a bar and watch the football and
baseball and the amalgam of stuff partying, or well, they
just decided not to go into work on a Friday.
You know, maybe the kids head it's Halloween.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
Yeah people, yeah, not everybody wants to go to work
on a Friday. It's Halloween, one of my five anyway,
so people, you know, people have kids, they take the night.
Oh no, when I used to do that. I'm not
saying and now say beating. I'm going to a party. Okay,
that's great, that's fine. No, that's what they do, and
that's fine. But my daughter came into my room today
and stole a tie from me. I said, just she goes.
(13:15):
I just wanted to ask Greg, go, when's the last
time I wore a tie? You could just take it?
Just yeah, you know the question I got, Hey, Dad,
do you have a red bow tie? And I looked
at her. I said, yes, I do. She goes. I
don't know why, but you have a red bow tie.
I go, yeah, I do. I'm going as orvile Reddenbacker
to the to my house. They were doing Sherman and Peabody,
(13:41):
so they did something else earlier. I now have a
cool sticker off of something she did with one of
her teammates yesterday. But all that to say, wherever you
were heading in terms of getting to these games, the
gravity toss, but listening on the radio, it was like, wow,
another strikeout, another great bat, like they were really starting
(14:01):
to get sarcastic in the Dodgers radio booth. And then
once betts Head is his two run hit, Stephen Nelson channeled,
he goes as Hawk. Harrelson, the Great White Sox announcer
would say, don't stout now, boys. I'm like, yeah, there
you go, Steven Nelson, I now like you a lot
more so where we are right now, bottom of the
(14:24):
seventh inning. Rableski is in for the Dodgers. The night
is over for Yamamoto. Six innings, one run, first battery faces.
It's a it's a it's already things again. Hey, the
bullpen's out. We get nervous. Miguel Rojas fields a high
chop bouncer off of Barger's bat that if he doesn't
(14:46):
bare hand it, and it's not one of those running
in bare handed, scoop two up the first base for
the second out of you sorry, And if he doesn't
run in, it's not like one of those where I'm
running in. It's a little dribbler and I grab it
with my bare hand and I flip it to first. No, well,
he goes in and it's a high hop and he
grabs it above his head with his bare hands, throws
the runner out at first, which turns out to be
(15:07):
a huge out because a two out double has put
a runner at second for the Blue Jays with two
outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Clement off
the wall and left center field. So now the Blue
Jays threatening with two outs in the bottom of the
seventh and boy, that Miguel Rojas play looks so huge
(15:28):
just thirty seconds ago and now that play looks so
incredibly huge for the Dodgers.
Speaker 3 (15:32):
I'm just gonna say this, that was one of the
greatest visuals of this World Series and the playoffs. Whenever
you got all these big home runs four hundred and
sixty nine feet. Dude's gonna get a million dollars for
that ball. That guy that got it from his nachos,
all of that stuff. That's all fine and good. That
Rojas play where we've been waiting to see Rojas on
the field. Here's a big, big time play that he
has to make it second, Couzy Cucumber. That glove never
(15:55):
he never entered his mind.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
He use his glove. That was fantastic. H stole gold
killer right there. Exit out bout of Fresca, Exit swollen Dome.

Dodgers continue to lead the Toronto Blue Jays three to
one as they bat trying to even the World Series
at three games apiece. More in this game in a
few minutes with Steve Desager and What's trending but now
joining us on the hotline for another big week of
college football. The owner, editor, proprietor grand puba of College
(19:06):
Footballnews dot com. All the previews, all the prognostications, all
the analysis you could possibly want. He is on Twitter
at Pete Futech. He is currently watching the signature win
of the Bill Belichick era in North Carolina and he
joins us now in the hot line to break it
all down. What's happened to Pete.
Speaker 5 (19:24):
I'm trying to watch it, you know, me and you
know other people don't have it on the regular TV,
so it doesn't actually exist. So yeah, but yeah, all
of a sudden, you know the car Hills became the
greatest show on turf. I mean, what's you know for
(19:45):
a game that, for the love of God should be
going to the under and all of a sudden he
decided to score a lot in this game and just
not pretty for the Orange.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
Well, I'll tell you this, I could really, really, and
I'm being serious, I could really, really, really make a
great art ligument that Steve Vangeli is your Heisman Trophy
winner this year. I have a difference in the leading
passer in the country. Syracuse beats Clemson. Now North Carolina,
which has beaten Charlotte and Richmond, has limited Syracuse to
one hundred and twenty yards of offense in the middle
(20:14):
of the fourth quarter.
Speaker 5 (20:15):
Well, here's the defense has actually been great. It's been
in all everyone's thunder dunking on Belichick because this isn't
working out great in the first six games in a rebuild,
and everyone's expecting Dion part two and craziness and Michael
Jordan and fun.
Speaker 6 (20:31):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (20:32):
But you know, it's the offense that's the problem. The
defense has been absolutely terrific, especially as the year has
gone on. Against the run. It's just this this he
has figured it out, but the offense had created new
and exciting ways not to score, and then all of
a sudden they get Syracuse and well that's that. Cures
that be for right.
Speaker 1 (20:52):
Now, Cucia. Jason's got at least enough distractions with the
you know, the bulls and thens and you know that
pesky World Series thing, Pete, he's very pesky.
Speaker 5 (21:05):
Yeah, it's good, you know, thank goodness for it for tonight,
you know, because it's on, you know, for some of us.
But yeah, it's entertaining. Okay, it's baseball. We'll forget it,
you know, when it's over, but you know, for now, Yeah,
this is this is fun to be had by lots
of people. The pretty good World Series. It's pretty entertaining.
Speaker 1 (21:24):
Highly if only my team could play past October first,
But that's a story for another time. Let's get into.
Speaker 5 (21:31):
Who I'm a Twins from Minneapolis, a place that has
not had a team in one of the Core four
sports championships since the Twins won and off from Jack Morris.
Speaker 1 (21:41):
You hired, you hired a guy that got fired by
the Pirates because they were losing too much in June. Oh,
that's our guy. That's the guy that's going to be
the Twins manager. Great, see what you did now? You
took Pete down a deep, dark highway. All right, Pete,
let's do this before we get to the games of
(22:01):
the weekend. The coaching carousel.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
Some reports that Lastly is going to get an extension
through thirty two and make a lot of money. It
seems like it'd be a nice time to be an
agent for some of these coaches, with the carousel spinning
as it did in the post Brian Kelly being the
latest to join the unemployment line.
Speaker 5 (22:21):
You know what, You're never going to hear a positive
word from me about Brian Kelly for a full flew
of reasons. Sure, but the dude, look, I know, you're
supposed to win national championships at LSU. But in his
first two years he won ten games in each year
and finished in the top fifteen. Last year he won
nine games, and you know it was three for three
(22:45):
in bowl games. And this season, you know, his team
lost to Vanderbilt, who turns out to be pretty good,
and lost to a Texas A and M team that's
probably the best team in the SEC and definitely one
of the top three teams in America. And you know,
so like I get it, I get that, you know,
fans are grumbly, but it's it's kind of a it's
(23:08):
insane how this is working out because you know, I
there's only one Lane Kiffen to go around, you know,
so I'm not exactly sure who's who all these great
coaches are. I mean, think about Bran cos the winning
his coach in the history of Notre Dame. He did
take them to a BCS championship game. They have throttled
and you know, they did get them to another college
(23:29):
football playoff, and he's he as a football coach, He's
been pretty good this year. Okay, it didn't really work out,
but again, you know, who are these coaches who are
going to all of a sudden pop up and be
the next guy. I still think if if you want
to be a player, Lauria Lsu step up, Kurt taking
Netty's buyout, it's only fifteen million, that's you want to coach,
(23:52):
don't just go buy him out from Indiana and say, hey,
let's just give you more money.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
All right, So let's do this then, Pete. Let's make
the three big openings right now. We got Penn State,
we got Florida and we have LSU. Now take RTT
Lashley off the board because he's getting a two year
extension SMU. And he probably would have been up for
one of those jobs if I say we start with
Penn State, if you could match make Penn State the
best choice for them or who James Franklin.
Speaker 5 (24:20):
Okay, but but he's he's not going to be it.
He's probably to be at Virginia Tech. Is like the
douttle buck going. But the problem is it's I'm just
gonna say Lane Kiffin for all three jobs because he
is the best coach going. I'm not sold that he's
going to really be that hot as Florida as everyone
(24:42):
thinks he is in LSU. I don't know why people
would take that gig, because again, you can't if you're
not winning a national championship, you're whack. Now you're going
to be given fifty million dollars to leave. But it's
not a fun type of job. So unless you've got
some sort of you know, just you know, matchmaking thing
(25:04):
happening where you're gonna like take the next you know,
the hot shot guy, like you know Eric Morris of
North Texas or Alex Golish of South Florida. You know,
John Summrall's team didn't exactly show up last night for
Tulane on a game they should have won. But he's
probably the LSU guy, if you know, just because he's
in Louisiana. And the other guy to remember to watch
(25:24):
is Kans always have a way of loving the coach
who beat them for years. Alabama and the whole SEC
had a love affair with you Freeze because he beat
Dick Saban a couple of times. That's not working out
for Auburn. LSU fans just watched Clark Lee beat their
LSU team. Oh so he must be a good coach
because he beat our team. So he's going to be
(25:47):
front and center for a lot of these jobs. And
remember James Franklin did go from Vanderbilt to Penn State,
and it wouldn't be shocking if Pence they did that again.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
Double dip going down that road for Lane Tiffin.
Speaker 3 (25:58):
He's just an interesting case that I mean, obviously we
always want trade it all for a little bit more.
He got paid at a number of jobs. Can't he
just be king there and build a little fiefdom?
Speaker 5 (26:10):
No kind of but that's not really you know, why
would you want to necessarily just look, there is a
thing about this, like what is the best job? And
remember Old miss for being a big SEC school, So
it's not a great historical program. I have won a lot,
and the problem is they don't have the money. They
have roughly I want to say one hundred and fifty
(26:30):
million ish in revenue coming in, which is a lot
of money. You know, it's pocket change to most of us,
but that's okay. But like by comparison, you know, Texas
get brings in like three hundred and thirty million. You know,
Penn State's about two twenty ish, Florida is about two hundred.
L us use about two hundred. And this is only
going to go up for the big ten schools, you know,
(26:51):
once they do find a suitor to you know, give
them all this sort of hedge fund money that they're
trying to give away. So it's there's a lot of
money on the table for him to go some more,
not just for him, but for a program that because
you know, there where money's just gonna be no object whatsoever.
Speaker 1 (27:06):
Well, look at it this way, det after last week,
the whatever it is to get Jerry Newheiseel has probably
come down a bit, so he's probably gonna be easier again.
Speaker 5 (27:15):
You have to facture for hair care. He's going to
ask for his own farmer. I hope they stip stick
with Skipper. I mean, like I don't know to do that.
He saved him from an zer to twelve season, and
you know, I hope they kind of keep the guy
around as is and you know, keep no lecture make
for Jerry new Heidel. But that's UCLA should be a
(27:39):
premier job. That is one of those gigs that that
should should be amazing. Ucla should be great at college football,
and for whatever reason, the infrastructure there when it comes
to that just doesn't click.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
All right, So we got big news today. Arch Manning
cleared protocol. He's going to start tomorrow one of the
biggest games in college football. We have Texas and Vanderbilt.
Beginning of the season, you said stock up on arch Manning,
stock down on Texas. So far Texas has been kind
of stock down. Arch Manning is maybe getting stock up.
(28:12):
Where are you right now on both arch Manning and Texas?
Speaker 5 (28:15):
Texas they are who we thought they were. It's exactly
the team I thought it was going to be. I
predicted nine and three ish before the season that it
wasn't going to be as hot as everyone loved them
to be. Certainly not the number one team in the country.
I was expecting Arch to be a lot better. I mean,
he's fine, it's okay, but he's not getting any First
of all, he's not get any help whatsoever from his
(28:37):
offensive line. Last year's line was way better. This group
has a bunch of NFL talents, it's just not meshing.
There's a zero running game helping him out. The defense
is certainly there, and his receivers aren't giving him a
whole lot of help either, So I don't want to
say that he certainly hasn't made everyone better around him.
But again, he's just getting started. You get the tools
(29:00):
are there. I'm a little bit of an apologist, but man,
for a team that was supposed to be play for
the national championship, and it still could. I mean, if
it wins out, it's ten and two and going to
go to the College football playoffs, so there's still a shot.
I think they beat Vanderbilt tomorrow and they keep they
stay alive, but barely.
Speaker 3 (29:16):
Pete As we look at the rest of this light.
You got one other top twenty five matchup Oklahoma Tennessee,
any of the other top twenty five squads that you've
got an eye towards it up to upset.
Speaker 5 (29:26):
I don't have the big upset hanging out there for anybody.
I do want to see Maryland against Indiana. I still
keep waiting. I'm I'm not one of these people think, oh, well,
the bubble's gonna burst in Indiana soon. But I do
think that it is the type of team that's a
little bit overdue for more of a fight. Remember they
needed to have that quirky safety to get by Iowa.
Speaker 4 (29:47):
On the road.
Speaker 5 (29:48):
They did, you know, it's Oregon. Oregans are good, but
they did have to fight to get past them on
the road. Maryland is a desperate team and they do
a lot of things right. I don't think they're gonna
have enough and be tight enough to be able to
pull this up. But that'd be kind of a fun
shootout where the Turfs can at least make this interesting
and then the other team I really want to see.
It's not a Top twenty five games. You want to
(30:09):
talk about an existential moment? What is Colorado because if
anybody saw that first half last week, and it turns
out if you paid attention to social media, not a
lot of people did. If it was anybody else but
Dion Sanders at that job, we'd been kind of talking
this year three and that performance where that was probably
(30:32):
the worst performance in the first half by any Power
five program this season, and then they got completely annihilated.
They need to come out and just take down Arizona.
This is one of those moments where okay, coach Prime,
if you're good at this and you can fix the
glitches after that performance, you get that team up for
(30:52):
that game, and you've got to beat Arizona.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
He's on Twitter at peach f Tech. That is at
pt tech College Football News. You're one stop shopping for
everything you need college football. Pete, as always, buddy, appreciate
it man, and join the games. We'll talk to you
next week pretty much, Seepete. Thanks. All right, there goes
Pete Feutech again. We got more college football on the way,
but right now it's time to find out what's trending
(31:15):
in the wide world of sports. From someone who's been
called the taoscar Hernandez of Fox Sports.
Speaker 7 (31:21):
Radio, kind of an insult at the moment.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
Because he waves to you in the hallway, just like
TiO Oscar waved at that cutter to end the eighth inning.
Speaker 7 (31:30):
It's Steve Desager, Mookie Bett said, draw on a two
out walk in the top of the eighth to load
the bases. Taskar Hernandez struck out against relievers Sir Anthony Domingus,
so they're going to the bottom of the eighth and
Rochi Sasaki is coming on in relief in the eighth
inning for La to pitch to George Springer and the
top of the order. More details on this in a moment.
(31:51):
As we're talking college football, there is a game to update.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
You see.
Speaker 7 (31:55):
The North Carolina tar Heels were the only team in
all of FBS yet to score twenty one points against
an FBS opponent. They're outscoring Syracuse twenty one to nothing
just in the second half tonight and leading with under
four minutes to go in the fourth twenty seven to ten.
Twenty fifth ran Memphis now eight and one. After a
win at Rice thirty eight to fourteen and Sam Houston's
(32:17):
zero to seven late third quarter, they're losing forty one
to fourteen at Louisiana tech Well, it's Game six of
the World Series on Fox TV. Right now, bottom of
the eighth inning, LA three, Toronto one.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
Now.
Speaker 7 (32:30):
Kevin Gosman was yet again good as the Blue Jays starter.
He struck out seven of the first nine LA batters
he faced to start this game, and yet he now
is the first pitcher at MLB history to in a
single postseason have four straight starts where he pitches at
least five innings, allows three runs or less, and doesn't
get a win. He went six innings, eight strikeouts, but
(32:54):
did allow the three key runs in the third, All
of them came after a two out intentional walk to
Shohey O'tani. The two starters, Yamamoto and Gosman were great tonight.
In fact, those two just in the first five innings
combined through seventy split finger fastballs. That is the most
in any game this year by two starting pitchers. Gosman
(33:16):
wound up throwing a splitter on over fifty percent of
his pitches, and he was getting one swing and miss
with it one after another in those first three innings.
When he came out, Louis Varland came in yet again
from the Toronto bullpen. The guys appeared in fourteen games
this postseason. That ties the most by any reliever in
(33:36):
a single postseason. We can update the George Springer, who
is the DH. Tonight he returned after having injured himself
on a swing earlier in the week. As an RBI
single in the third, he has just singled down the
right field line past to diving first baseman Freddie Freeman
to open the bottom of the eighth tension again in
Game six of the World Series Dodgers.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
You don't see that offen Steve, a right handed batter
the other singling down the line, not a line drive,
but a ball that grounds between the first basemen and
the right field line. Says it all to clumbs up,
like I don't know he did the Michael Jordan shrug.
Speaker 7 (34:17):
And it's late innings, so the first baseman's kind of
playing close to the line and it still got through. Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (34:23):
I mean, look, this is the World Series right here.
Roki Sasaki in for two innings, top at bottom of
the eighth against the top of the Jay's order. This
is the World Series right here, right now, Sasaki against
the top six hitters, and the Jays lineup.
Speaker 7 (34:36):
The Dodgers have actually turned a couple of double plays tonight.
I think they're gonna have to ask for yet another
one right now, because what they're asking is this horrendous
bullpen that we've seen for the last three months, blow
game after game, asking them to get the last nine
nine outs to be able to continue to a game seven.
Tomorrow night, the Dolphins parted ways with general manager Chris
(34:59):
geek Greer, but it's head coach Mike McDaniel will stay
for this year, at least. In the NBA, the New
York Knicks were beaten at Chicago Bulls one thirty five,
one twenty five. Toronto ended a four game losing streak
with a win at Cleveland. Atlanta one easily at Indianapolis.
Pacers or what's left of them have lost five in
a row, and it was a four and ozho start
(35:19):
for Philly, but they lost by a point at home
to the Boston Celtics one oh nine, one o eight.
Anthony Davis Dallas will miss at least two games with
straying calf.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve O, Jason Smith, Mike
Harmon Live from the Fox Sports Radio studios, we have
more on the moment. This is the moment of the
World Series right now, Game six, eighth inning, one out.
Nobody on Roki Sasaki into either get it to Game
seven or the Blue Jays are going to win the
World Series. We'll have more on this coming up next
(35:48):
as well as we continue our Big Football Friday preview
here on Halloween, another big week in the NFL, we
look at all the big games coming up next right
here Jason and Mike Fox.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox Sports.
Speaker 1 (36:09):
Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon.

you get to be the play of the day.
Speaker 6 (36:43):
Now we'll come from and pry on the far side
of the Florence. He's safe for the grinds Grimes two seconds,
Grimes has to pull up. Grimes finds embid. He launches
a three. It's no good, and the Celtics have won
the ball game.
Speaker 1 (36:54):
Celtics dav on the call. Yeah, uh, embiid hosting a three,
Mike Harmon, I think that's the shot you want in
that situation if you're the Sixers. Except not at all
the Sixers. They were unbeaten. It was another big night
for Tyres, Maxi and VJ edgecomb twenty six and seventeen
for each. Not enough, the Sixers suffered their first loss
of the season. Celtics win at one oh nine one eight.
Speaker 3 (37:17):
Now I want to go back and look at how
many three point shots he's attempted in his career.
Speaker 1 (37:24):
It's amazing. I mean, you know, I gotta think there's
a little it's a little bit more than you think
it is. Yeah. No, he's averaging a career high five
point three a game. Right now, he's probably just bored. Yeah,
I'm just gonna tartaking three. Well, because remember last week
Star Ticket.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
He had that great quote of if I'm just gonna
play twenty minutes tonight, now I might as well just
stay home.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
Just give me the ball. I'm just gonna start shooting. Look,
he is going to he is going to continue to
talk his way to a trade by the deadline. One
hundred percent. That's absolutely what's gonna happen with him. Be
Look they the Sixers moved on. They lose tonight, Okay,
it happens. He has a short handed Celtics team. But
you're four and one. You figured out you are MAXI
and come driven. This is where you're going. Now you've
(38:02):
made it through the Joel embiid era. He's just gonna
talk and do stuff until they have They'll trade him
where he wants to go, and he'll be on a nut.
Maybe even before that. I can even see this being
like a Christmas thing where you know what, we're done.
We're done with this and we're done with whatever it is.
If he's being snarky, we're gonna move him early because
we just don't want him around anymore, and he'll wind
(38:22):
up being someplace maybe by Christmas. I can even forget
about the deadline. I can see before the calendar flips
of twenty twenty.
Speaker 3 (38:28):
Well I can say, is this You've got a contract
that goes through twenty eight twenty nine. That is not
the Christmas gift I want. If I'm an NBA fan
of another team.
Speaker 1 (38:37):
Now, of course you do. Just don't look at it.
You got Joel Embiid. Look at the back of his
basketball card. You'll be very excited. As long as when
are they leaving the games played notation off of there? Yeah, yeah,
just put they just have his averages on it, so
you can be really excited by it. Here you go.
Speaker 3 (38:55):
Update from the world. In college football, they're a kneel
down moade. There as Carolina twenties ten yearly classy by
Bill Belichick in the final couple of minutes.
Speaker 1 (39:04):
He could have run it up on on your ass
and didn't He already did twenty seven to ten.
Speaker 3 (39:08):
No, that wasn't running it up They could have. They
could have put another seven on you. This is Jenny said,
We're getting out of here.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
This is sowing about. Look, you know, I love Fran Brown,
but I mean when you see how sloppy Syracuse is.
They tried to kick a field goal, but they got
they got a delay of game. Pedal League which put
him out of field goal range. No matter who he
puts in a quarterback, he takes a former walk on
who's at Syracuse on a lacrosse scholarship as well, Like
(39:35):
it's lacrosse as his number one sport, and he leapfrogs everybody.
To start tonight, he completes four passes for thirty nine
yards like Fran Brown. Man, I don't know if he's
as great a head coach everybody says he is. Maybe
he's just a really great recruiter and I can get
the talent on the field. And that's what happened last
year and with Steve Aangelly till he got hurt. But man,
(39:55):
Syracuse is just non competitive and Jelly got hurt. They
are absolutely non competit.
Speaker 3 (40:00):
Hey, he was finding athletes, doesn't matter where they came from. Man,
I'll look, lacrosse is the off season sport for football.
Speaker 1 (40:07):
Players though, right, I mean so it works not in
Division one, not an FBS not that's not. Meanwhile, in
Major League Baseball, we are going to the ninth inning.
Roki Sasaki gets out of a two on two out jam,
so the Dodgers a three to one lead. They will
(40:29):
be batting in the ninth most likely Sasaki. Well, unless
Dave Roberts wants to have to run from people like
a horde of zombies is chasing after him, Sasaki is
gonna be out there in the ninth. But if we
had ABS in Major League Baseball, that would have been
a very less hectic inning for the Dodgers. Sasaki had
Vlad Junior struck out, uh, but the pitch was called
(40:51):
a ball went on replays, it was clearly in the box.
That's something that next year we're going to see it
differently because Lad Juni went on too, So now the
Blue Jays were threatening instead of what should have been
two out and a runner on first. ABS next year
can't get here soon.
Speaker 3 (41:07):
One of those old fun circumstance of where it goes
through the zone versus where the catcher nabs it right,
because that thing had some action on it.
Speaker 1 (41:17):
Yeah, that's Sasaki's just he's just throwing filthy stuff tonight.
So we have the ninth inning of the World Series
on the way next as well as a big Halloween
Football Friday preview night ahead. We got so many sports
just like Hulk, except it's sports instead of stairs. That's
next right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio. So
(41:38):
many stairs,
