Speaker 1 (00:32):
Greetings, Welcome inside, Happy All Star Tuesday. Yes, this show

what and where they drive. Shipped fast and free, backed

(00:53):
mobile tire installation ti Raq dot com is the way
tire buying should be. We are headed to the top
of the sixth inning in the Midsummer Classic. American League
leads the National League three nothing, all three runs played
it in the first inning, back to back garby I
hits by a pair of New York Yankees. Yay they
can hit here. Yeah, oh yeah that hey all their
problems have been solved. All the problems are solved. Now, Hey,
(01:15):
the All Star Game is great. Christopher Sanchez, who what
do you have one hundred and fifty straight scoreless inning
streak this season? Yeah, apparently his kryptonite is the American League.
He gives up three in the first inning and that
is all of your run so far, the only hit
for the National League Juan Soto before departing the game
for Corbyn Carroll. Uh. Now, we'll get to the big
(01:37):
drama from this game in a couple Yeah, we got
a couple of games. I mean, Sanchez threw seemingly one
hundred and fifty pitches. It's a lot, man, It's at
one hundred and fifty innings. That's a lot. Like he
just kept going, and the shots of Dave robers just pained.
Look on his first second, right, Like Dave Roberts is
sitting there going, Okay, it's the All Star Game. Everybody
is cool, Everybody is playing a cool We're all good. Yeah,
(01:59):
everybody's here to have fun. Don't worry, I'm not gonna
overuse anybody. Everything's good. Nope, top of the first inning.
Here you go, hometown Philly starter. He's over thirty pitches.
What do you do? Yeah, because you got nobody in
the mad right. Come on, none of your other starting
pitchers are available for the National League, right, all because
of where they pitched in the rotation or guys that
(02:20):
needed time off, right, like the miz and whatever else, Like, yeah,
he's gotta finish this inning. Huh yo. Everything was going
great for we were gonna catch the Braves, and then
they over used Sanchez in the All Star Game, and
then he had a dead arm and the rest of
the second half was unusable. His rera was five point ninees.
Like you pitch for the Mets. Here's nothing we could do.
(02:40):
Dave Roberts killed us. Dave right, it's Dave roberts fault.
He likes to take pictures out of games all the
time on the West Coast. I see those late night highlights.
Guys have no hitters into the ninth inning at forty
seven pitches, and here comes some bullpend guys. They blow
the lead. Oh no, I see it, and they walk
it off at the end. No, this is this is
absolute chaos for us. This is where our season fell apart.
(03:00):
Was the All Star Game when Dave Roberts left Sanchez
in there so long he was. It's a nefarious act, right,
I mean, because normally he does it's what he did.
I couldn't take him out. He couldn't take his way out. No,
could his way out. No, you're in the middle of
the rant. And then you just keep yelling wiz win
it whiz went out. No, No, you could go whiz
weed wit doesn't maut you go go get a hogy.
(03:21):
Doesn't matter if you go to wah wah, no all
these different things. I went. I went to wahwah, got
a HOGI came back, had it, went back, got another one,
came back. It was still the top of the first inning.
Sanchez was still pitching very difficult, very long ass inning,
no question about it. But yeah, Dave Roberts, if this
goes badly for Sanchez, he's gonna be blamed for it again.
(03:42):
I like the contrast that you did because that's immediately
where my head went as I was watching it go down.
This guy normally pulls guys really fast, and now he's
sitting there going to wait for it, wait for it,
and trying to manage a game because he doesn't have
all of those other starters at it as a disposal.
Could he have walked out there, you know, after giving
up the runs at thirty pitches and said, hey, I'm
(04:04):
gonna get you innovation walking off the field. So I'm
gonna take you out of the game now, and good job.
Who's coming in the pitch? Key k A Hernandez. Don't worry,
he's the guy that's I don't know if you know,
he's on my suball star list. He's gonna come in
and finish standing for you. Well, you know what, they
did have a Ky Hernandez pitching bobblehead giveaway, because they
have a lot of giveaways. Yeah, yeah, yeah, so uh
(04:25):
you know, look, obviously, you know, a very big deal.
Thirty four pitches for Christopher Sanchez in the first and
we were doing great. We were going to catch the Braves. Yeah,
we were good. They were playing seven hundred ball. We
didn't have a good manager. We fired him and we
were gonna catch you know, all of a sudden, No Sanchez,
he's got a dead army's throwing the ball. His top
fastball topped out at fifty four miles an hour. It
was terrible. It's bad because as we get towards the
(04:45):
trade deadline. It's hey, what do the Phillies do to
chase down the Dodgers? I don't know. They might need
another arm now. No, now, we're not gonna get Lebron
and Ed. Did Jalen hurt? His job is in jeopardy.
I watched ESPN and they said that to you. I
don't know what's going on. I don't know what to
root for now, maybe the Union, I don't know. I
don't know. I don't think so. I don't know. You
called Rob mcaleney, I know he's robbed Mack. He didn't
go by mcalene anymore, just Rob Mack. Is that right? Oh? Yeah,
(05:08):
changed his name now he's officially Rob Mack. The guy's
fifty years old and I'm changing my name for some
reason joining a boy band. No, I don't think he
just wanted people to mess his name like mcal I mean,
just be a weightlifting he now chased a fifties fifty
years old, I'm changing my name to Rob mac. That
makes me sad. Yeah, that's what he did though. That's
(05:30):
why you hear that. Uh Now. Two other things about
this game is because nobody watched the last season of
Wrexham Wrexham see Wrexham's Tough now Man, because everybody knows
what happens right way before the show hits. And now
it's like all and now it's all players that you
know you invest in Mullen and Ollie Palmer and all
these guys and Jordan Davies, And after like the third season,
it's like, yeah, we just keep trading guys out as
(05:52):
we move up the ladder. Don't don't get too attached
to any of these any of these players, because they're
gonna be gone after a season. Oh that's funny is
I was working a deal on a couple of trading
cards on a guy and he tried to throw in
a Welsh Pool okay autograph card of Mullen. I'm like,
I have no use for that. What if I throw
a Paul Mullen card for I'm good? Thank you? Uh Now,
(06:14):
the other big topic of this game and this is
I know it sucks and it's under the category of
occupational hazard. My mom is pissed. H yeah, y, So
I got a text immediately going, what the hell do
you think? Maybe we put it out there in the
universe last night we did the caminar. I think we
might have done that, just like the Phillies fans are
(06:36):
gonna blame Dave Roberts if their season goes then smells
like a steak. In Seats thirty five, Junior Camanaro leaves
tonight's game after getting hit by a pitch in the hand,
a runaway fastball, and who knows what if you're on
social media, now it's it's a broken wrist. It's a
broken finger. He's gonna he's gonna lose his entire palm.
(06:58):
The ball went through his palm. There's a big hole
in his hand right now. But it did you know,
haveing like the seeing eye on his palm, the eye
of alcohol? Yeah? Yeah, you know what was what movie
was that? Where the where you didn't know if if
the creature was a good guy or a bad guy.
He had his hands he would put over his eyes
because it was yeah, yeah, what was it? He would
(07:19):
put his hands over his eyes. Yes, Pans Labyrinth. Yeah,
very good way to crowdsource that. But uh, I mean,
kemen Arow is having an incredible year this year for
the rais Ops is near nine point fifty. Last home run,
I mean, I look, he had a home run streak
and now who knows what it is for him, who
knows when he's gonna come come back to play? And
(07:41):
this is now everybody's worst nightmare than in an All
Star game or some kind of game that doesn't mean anything.
World Baseball Classic. This child, one of your players, Edwin
has somebody else could get hurt and wind up missing
a bunch of time. This is again, well I saw
that happen if it gets hit, if he gets hurt
in the the cont the game versus jumping around and
(08:02):
celebrating two different things. Can't trust you to jump in
the air. How far are you jumping? Just like six inches?
Like I'm just jumping straight sheets of paper. Yeah, so
now we're waiting to find out what the result on
Caminara is like one of the most exciting players in
the game. Right now, you know, twenty oh right away, immediate,
right away, do not pass, go, do not collected, go
(08:22):
straight to the locker room. And I guess this this
is I don't know now because this this is I'm
actually spending some time because this is where I'm getting
to on this is that driving into work, right I'm
sitting here going okay, so I'm fifty five and I
think about the All Star Game, and you know, everybody's
everybody's tired topic about the All Star Game. You know,
it's not like the All Star Game when I was
(08:42):
a kid, when it was about this. When I remember
when I was seven, and I would take my nightly bath,
coming out in my tidy white underwear, and I got
to stay up till nine thirty, and then I had
to go to bed, and I missed the last five
innings of the game. But boy, those first four innings
were wondrous. The players seem like gods. You never got
to see them. They were always on the West Coast
at night. That was what baseball was like. If I
hear another topic like that, oh my god. But this
(09:05):
is where I'm at now when it comes to All
Star games. I don't know if this means I'm jaded.
I don't know if this means I'm realistic. I don't
know if this means I'm a real fan. I don't
know what. But when it comes to All Star games
or events like an All Star Game, World Baseball, Classic,
flag football, Pro Bowl, whatever, it was like, I used
to think, Okay, this is fun. I watched this and
(09:25):
then and and certainly, there's certain things you want to
think about. Is just being fun. Home run Derby is
fun to watch. It's a fun it's a popcorn and
it was fun yesterday everybody came back. Yeah, to the
other side. The pendulum swung back. I mean, I know
that there's some play. Some fans like to say, I
just hope this guy doesn't screw up his swing for
the rest of the year trying to hit all these
holm runs Like that's like, okay, come on, but.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
I kind of going mad dog a little bit. When
I don't tell you, Mikey, I tell you I don't
like it. I don't like it, mike I don't like
to w I have to play in this game, Mikey, Mikey,
Mikey let me tell you, Mikey. Mikey wants I was
a guy They paid him seven out and fifty five
million dollars again paid to go watch the same dog, Mikey.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
I gotta calm back. I can't like, I can't. I'm
just watching wat Tonto. I think the Mets aren't gonna
happen now. I don't know it's gonna I'm gonna but
like as a fan, as a as a fan. When
I watch an All Star game now, of in any
any anything, my first thought is like, I don't really
(10:20):
care about any look, I want to see something fun.
I want to have something fun for it. But my
number one thought is don't have anybody on my team
get hurt. Like that's what when I come to All
Star games. Instead of the pageantry, it's a little bit Yeah,
that's great. Don't get hurt. That's awesome. Don't get hurt.
Don't get hurt. Like, I don't know if this is
what a twenty twenty six fan should be, Like, I
don't know if this is me stuck in a rut.
(10:41):
I don't know if this is me being realistic, Like
I don't know what kind of fan this makes me.
But I'm driving in going now. I just I don't know,
am I older? Because now you just think about the
bad thing. But like when it comes to an All
Star game, like I can, I can compartmentalize it with
the home run derby and it's like, okay, if if
you know Peter A. Lonza won the home run derby,
I wasn't worried about his swing the rest of the year, Like, oh,
I know all those home runs in the trip. She's
(11:02):
gonna try to keep hitting home runs second half. That
nothing else I could do. It's just gonna keep trying
to hit tingers. Like okay, that that I'm like, all right,
But when it comes to also like that's what I
think of. That's my first thing is Okay, when the
Mets just had won Soto, Like if you know, if
the Mets how we're having a good season, Like let's
say the Mets having a big season, there were four
guys down going okay, nobody get hurt. Nobody get hurt
in this game. Nobody turn an ankle, nobody doing, Nobody
(11:22):
get hit by a line drive, nobody get hit by
a pitch. Now, but like wan so, all right, played,
he's out of the game. Okay, great, all right now.
Obviously the stakes are not that big this year because
the Mets are terrible and it's gonna be all about
the the trade deadline. But like overall, like that's the
kind of fan I am right now when it comes
to All Star Games, is okay, the number one thing,
don't get hurt. After that, I don't care what else happens.
Hopefully it's fun, gives us something fun to talk about.
(11:44):
You know, I'm not gonna sit here and default to
the Here are the changes that need to be made
to the All Star Game every all the tired topics
you get around the All Star Game every year by
lazy radio hosts that don't know what to do. The
shrug their shoulders and go, I don't know, let's talk
about changing this. Let's talk about it. But like I'm
at that point now where the number one thing is okay,
no injuries, then whatever else happens, I'm okay with. It's
(12:05):
always singing in the back of your mind, everyone meet
the Fates. Uh? Is that a song that's part of Hadestown?
Is it really? There's lots of lines in Hadestown that
I that I don't know. Yeah, No, it's part of
the road to Hell. Oh, it's part of the Roadell.
And he's starting to introduce everybody, oh oh, when Hermes
is going around her with everybody, So before the song starts,
(12:27):
oh yeah, okay, okay, got it, got it, everybody meets yeah, Okay,
that's hot. Yeah, but yeah, it's it's just that idea
of I want this, I want I want it to
be played hard, and from from the opening gun to
the end. Whatever the sport is, I think I'm with you,
like it's always there, It's in the back of your mind,
(12:48):
going all right, let's get out of here unscathed, Let's
have a good time, Let's put on a good show,
and nobody get hurt. Breaking light. It's like a Broadway show.
I mean in a lot of ways, like all right,
let's uh, let's have some fun. We know, we've got
a couple of people that are down their their throats
are not one hundred percent, they're not feeling great, but
we're gonna do the best we can. Hopefully everybody goes home.
(13:11):
I'm happy. Let's not get hurt then, And that's kind
of where we're at with these All Star games, right,
you want your people to participate. And look, I'm a
White Sox fan, right, Marikami just came back from injury.
He missed one almost two months. Team went sub five
hundred in his absence. Some great games, some great series, right,
(13:33):
helps to play the A's. But he immediately comes back
and he's in the home run derby and he's playing
for his you know, little waveer cap tonight, meeting up
with Kevin Durant and all that. It's all fine and good,
making everybody excited by singing the Clarence Carter classic stroking
that's good. Don't get hurt, that's all. Don't get hurt
(13:55):
running to first, that's all. I mean, like we have
hope in a beleaguered, eery, chaotic American league that if
he can stay healthy and be some semblance of the
player he was for the first two plus months, White
Sox are suddenly a legitimate darling, dark horse darling to go.
Come out of the al. Don't get hurt. I mean,
(14:16):
look in the All Star Game. I mean, maybe you
don't reinjury yourself, maybe becoming a parent a right, don't
get hurt, all right, don't get hurt. Don't get it.
But I remember what I never thought about guys going
to the All Star Game and getting hurt. I never
thought about that. Non play about that. Yeah, I love guys.
I'm my guy. Not get invited, right, I'm still my
favorite is I'm still upset Lee Mazzilly didn't win All
Star A VP and seventy nine in the Kingdome in Seattle.
(14:39):
I'm still upset about nineteen seventy nine, you were eight,
eight years old, because my favorite is you were talking
about the tired tropes of the All Star Game like
it used to be, you know, like when Pete Rose
took down Ray Fosse.
Speaker 4 (14:52):
You aren't even porn doesn't matter. That's when the game
was a game. It's a mad world we live, and
I tell you, I'll tell you man. I do feel
bad for Caminero though, yeah. Oh, I mean he's okay,
and it's our fault. Caminer Road, Caminer Road.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
You're smacking driving machine. Still three nothing. The American League
leads the National League again. National League is one Jan
Soto hit away from being no hit yea. And he
also just caught that flyout though. My guy Peters for
the White Sox former Savannah Banana. There you go, There
you go, works out man, he is the man with
the yellow hat. Just be around long enough and you
(15:32):
can go from the Savanna banandas into the Major League.
Baby All Star. I think we've learned anything in the
in this country in the last twenty years. It's whatever
you want to do, don't think you can't. You get
at it. Wherever you are right now, doesn't matter your ass.
Your opportunity may present itself. Exit outbout a fresco exit swollen.
Speaker 2 (15:51):

Speaker 1 (16:28):
Or wherever you get your podcasts. Wow, you know this
song was always it starts out way more sinister than
the song is. Like the difference between when the song
and the lyrics start. You're like, oh, I get it okay,
but it just starts out like really foreboding and sinister
(16:50):
live it is. Maybe that's a sweet emotion thing, man,
No the sweet Well you listen to the lyrics, Mary
mac it's a little bit different, not quite as sinister.
If there's one thing I can tell you Aerosmith lyrics
are not sinister. They're not deep, they're not email, they're
not like you know, every my Chemical Romance song, which
is just you know about the worst things that can
happen in the world, right Like, it's just it's it's, hey, okay,
(17:13):
we're where and are the things that nobody wears. Gotta
make clear, can't say baby, we're I'll be in a year,
you know, it's all those things that's sinister. It's not sinister.
Like they drag this out and and they really build
it up for about seven eight minutes. No, I think
this is this is where this is where Steven Tyler,
(17:33):
playing the lead character, is saying, hey, can't make promises
for a relationship. Got to be honest, I don't know
where I'm going to be in a year. That sounds
like a nightmare. That's sinister. That's that's not that's that's
being upfront. Imagine someone tells you that, Okay, they're at
least sinister. Okay, no, okay. So when I was oh, boy, okay,
so I had graduated where we have glory days or
(17:55):
I graduated college and I was living in Syracuse trying
to get it, trying to a job in radio start everything,
and I started through that speedball. By yeah, I started
started dating this girl. And usually most of my life,
like my relationships went one of two ways. Either I
was really into her and she wasn't that into me,
or she was really into me and I was never
(18:17):
really that into her. Right. It was kind of like
peanut peanut butter never met chocolate, you know, like that.
It was just like, now, peanut butter's over here, chocolate's
over here. You know what, can't can't do it. We're
like more Jason, You're like oil and water. It's like
pouring the oil in the water and chocolate. And I
was dating this girl and I could tell that that
she wanted to get a little more serious, and I
was okay with that. But I knew that I was
(18:37):
going to be leaving Syracuse at at some point in
the next few months. And I told her, I said, listen,
I said, I can't. I get it. I get it,
but I'm gonna be leaving to go somewhere, and I'm like,
I'm not I don't want to have to deal with
you know, I don't know what the relationship is going
to be, Like, I don't know where it is. I
feel like it's just hanging over me. So we had
the conversation and everything was okay. It was one of
(18:58):
the few times where when I was like, okay, I
was dating someone and we were breaking up. I'm like, oh,
I kind of felt like I did the adult thing there.
Now Mary Mack is telling me that I didn't do
the adult thing I want. I should have just go
to it. I'm not going to eat and do the
adult thing. I just said it was sinister. That's not sinister.
It's me being truth to hey, Okay, before things get
really crazy, I'm gonna leave. I don't know that I
want to go through a relationship. I like you, and
(19:18):
we can date and see what happens. But I can
just tell that that things are going a little bit more.
And and I felt like I felt like I done,
Like wow, I feel like an adult. I think it
would have been more sinister, Mary, if you would have
had someone in the background playing a bass line and
he had the voice box and going wow, because it
kind of just left it ambiguous. It's kind of just
(19:40):
like a like a saw, you know, like do you
want to play a game? Do you want to keep
dating me? And are you gonna leave? Yes, that's what
it is. I would yes, because now don't make, don't
make that's my relationships. And having someone being tied up
enough to cut their arm off to get out of it.
Although I mean you're you might have had one or two. Yeah, listen,
whatever limb I got to cut off to get away
from Jason, I will do it. Whatever I'll cut off
(20:02):
to about taking off a limb to get away from Uh,
I'll be like, I'll be like the night from Monty Python.
Come on, it's only a flesh wound. Come on, come on,
come on, you've got no arms left. Come on, check out.
We got chick. Come on, come on, I got you. Uh.
Time now for the Play of the Day. Play the
Day brought to you by tire Rack. For over forty years,
(20:22):
tire Acts been uping customers find the right tires for how,
what and where they drive. Ship Fast and Free backed
by free Road, has a protection with convenient installation options
like mobile tire installation. Tire Ac dot Com is the
way tire buying should be. So when you punch your
ticket into the World Cup Final, you get to be
the play of the day. Pit Ruiz, Who's never lost
(20:44):
a game he's played for Spain. The retired the Poro
goal call on Big Fox, giving Spain a you nothing lead.
That was your final. They eliminate France and all of
(21:05):
a sudden, boy, Spain looks like the big bad bully
on the block, having given up just one goal in
the World Cup. They completely dominated France today. But my guy, key, yes,
your your guy not making play this game. Did he
get the call? He did? No? No, he did. He
definitely sg ate his way into that call today. Uh, Jamal,
(21:29):
who has not had a great World Cup, he's had
a great World Cup for talking like he's talking like, yeah, dude,
you have one goal in the entire world of stuff
that doesn't show up in the score, just like this. Well, yes,
draws a penalty in the first half that Spain burries
to give him a one nothing lead and France never
really recovers from this. I get that it's a penalty.
(21:51):
I get it. I get it. It was you know,
he got it was a high kick in the box
and Jamal gets kicked and I get that it's a penalty.
I still hated that call Number one in soccer especially,
I'm not one of those one of those people who
believes that a penalty is always a penalty in any situation.
There's certain times where okay, this, especially when it's such
(22:12):
a huge advantage, you really have to you really have
to go, okay, am I am? I really am. I
putting my fingers on this game, and my finger I'm
not putting my thumb on the scale. I'm putting a
whole brick on the scale because here's a penalty, and
I get it. You know, he kicked jam All and
Jamal makes a great play coming in. But I hated
the penalty because the ball's coming down. You see the replay,
(22:35):
it's all over all over the internet. Now, Like Jamal
comes from behind and so there's no way the defender
can see him. You know, kicks out at the ball
and he doesn't make a play on the way he
goes in, goes in to draw the foul, to draw
the contact right like Like That's why I said he
sgaated his way into it, because how many times you
see sga at the end of big game. I'm not
(22:56):
going in for a layup. I have no chance of
making this shot. I'm just going in for the contact.
You get to put it the free throw one like
he jumps into the kick hoping to get the call.
It's a ball that's coming down. It's a big fifty
to fifty ball. But he's gonna be there late. He's
not gonna be able to get there in time. He
jumps into the area where he knows the kick is
gonna be so I I look, you see it. Yes, absolutely,
(23:18):
it's a foul. The referee pointed for it right away.
I understand. I just hated that call because, like, what
do you expect the defender to do? The ball is
coming down, I'm trying to kick, and here comes about
making a great heady play where he runs into the
runs into the player. Okay, I could have gone with
that being a non call. I could have gone with
with that being something that it didn't stop the Spain attack.
(23:40):
It didn't. It wasn't advantage for anybody. This wasn't Spain
was able. You know that they had a scoring chance
taken away. I get there was a penalty. I still
absolutely hated it because obviously you see the result is won. Nothing.
Spain and France never recovered from that, and and that
was your game right there. I know they got they
got the they got the call at the end, they
got the goal. We was played for play of the
day and that's awesome. But if they don't get that,
(24:02):
they still win that game one nothing because of that penalty. Yeah,
I mean they dominated in every way, shape and form
in this game. Now, in this particular play, what really
incensed me. And normally I'm I'm a big fan and
I'll always go on the behalf of the defender. My
daughter's a defender. I look at the game that way
and always to have you know, whenever we talk football, whatever,
(24:23):
it's trying to see it from that point of view.
In this case, the guy makes no play at the ball,
like he's just gonna do this roadhouse roundhouse kick on
it instead of actually he's trying to get there. He's
trying to kick the ball right, but it's not a
ball that's on the ground. It's like, so Jamal has
every right to come in and he actually gets to
(24:43):
the ball first. You can say, well, he doesn't make
a play on the ball. While he does, you know,
he just jumps in the way. Hey I'm here, but
he jumps into the ball and some would then argue
it was a handball because of where it hits on
his body, but he actually makes a play to the ball,
whereas this guy's waiting around for the ball to come
down and just kind of kicking blindly into the area
(25:06):
which is now filled with all of the one hundred
and forty eight pounds of yamon. I mean rap, you
know what I mean? Like, yeah, because he's not really
staring down the ball, you know, bringing it, going to
pull it into his body, control it and then kick
it away. No, he goes for the roadhouse. Yeah kind
of kick and well instead of getting anywhere near the ball,
(25:29):
you get a whole lot of yamon. Well, yeah, it
was a big swing and miss. It was a big
but the fact that that you couldn't see it because
you'm all was coming from behind him, like if they
if they were jostling for the ball, if they were
shoulder to shoulder, or he was coming from the front
or the side. I get it, But he's coming from
behind knowing full well I'm gonna and again, it's a
(25:49):
great play. But it's his best play in the tournament, right,
it's his best ball. All the talking he has done,
that was his best play in the tournament because he
got them the penalty and I'm sure he was madie
thinking of the take shot. But you know, but but
you got them the penalty. It's a great heavy play
and of course you want to do that, but that
but it's it's such a it's it's not a play
that that gave advantage to either team. And and when
(26:12):
it's in the box, and it's such a big deal
that that when you you know that you give them
a penalty, you're deciding the game. And it's not a
play where they would have scored or they they they
would have been able to clear the ball out. It was,
it happened, and it's it's contact. And I think that's
something where a referee can say, yeah, we looked at
it and and we're able to say no foul or
(26:33):
or whatever you want to do, you not give them
a penalty on it like that. The penalties what we've
seen so far in the World Cup, like they're getting
more and more scrutiny as to with the officiating overall
and in general what you know where it's going, this
deserve a red card, this deserve a penalty. And you
see the wide swath of of difference on the UH
on the spectrum of what constitutes a penalty and what
(26:55):
constitutes something that the referees just don't call right, Like,
I get the contact was there. It was a big
deals in the box and everybody saw it. I'll go
back to some other plays during the World Cup where
I'm going, boy, nobody saw any of that. No, No
one sees Balligan getting his shirt pulled from behind on
a play where that's in the box. But okay, So
the fact that the officiating is not as consistent tells
(27:15):
me that, yeah, I think there were some wiggle room there,
and I just I just hate that that that decided
the game. Like you go all through the World Cup
and train for four years and all this, and I'm
gonna jump into a guy and just create contact and
that's gonna decide four years of preparation for a tournament
like that. That's that's something that was I was really
not happy. Here's the French coach on whether Barton from
(27:38):
L Salvador should have been the referee, changing the question
just when they thought they had all the answers and
just said, all right, coach, give us the little filler.
He changed the question. Now I'm asking you and I'm
not going to answer it. I don't want to come
across as a winer because we lost, But to tonight's referee,
(27:59):
have the left to officiate a World Cup semi final?
When asked to follow up, it's not just the penalty
in question, it's an accumulation of things. Yeah, now, and
that had been true throughout the tournament. Certainly Barton has
worn it. We've had a number of officials where you
start doing almost like not just hey, how many matches
(28:20):
has the guy officiated? Here are the number of questions
of things that he called during matches leading up to
this particular moment in time for the Spanish squad. I mean, look,
the goalie was on point. They controlled the game, very
few opportunities for him to have it. Even he got
(28:41):
hit in the face more times than he saved the
ball today. That's how this game went. He took more
incoming from French elbows, cleats and knees than he did
them actually shooting the ball on goal. That's how well
Spain defended. Yeh, Spain defensively. Spain has put on a
(29:02):
clinic throughout this World Cup and absolutely I mean again,
one goal, one goal by Belgium, oh, by the way,
one goal by Belgium. Oh by the way, by the way,
did you see him. BAP's reaction isolated off after the
second Yeah, yeah, he did that full on old man
throw my hand.
Speaker 4 (29:17):
It's like, what do you mean, It's another forty five
minutes before I get my sandwich.
Speaker 1 (29:21):
In a moment, Nah, you got. I got, Like I said,
I get all of it. I understand. It's just wow, Like,
was that really a penalty at that time in that situation? Again,
they're not all created equal, like the NFL has shown us. Yeah,
we'll call the game one way for fifty eight minutes,
but last two minutes of the Super Bowl, Hey, you
got to do it better and cleaner than everybody else.
This is the last two minutes of the bleeping Super Bowl.
Oh okay, okay, I just every time I've watched that player,
(29:43):
I'm just sitting there still thinking the defender thought he
was gonna have all that space to be able to
let the ball come all the way down and do
this roundhouse. And at no point was there a Spanish
player gonna suddenly be in his per Not that you
were necessarily gonna get the contact that you had with you, Maal,
but you thought you were gonna be able to get
that away so cleanly without a body getting in there.
(30:05):
It was so nonchalant, like yep, hey, I'm in the
box and here comes the ball. Yeah. It was this
random moment. It was this random moment where he thought,
I'm by myself and mainly he would And this is
why I look Jamaal. This is why at nineteen he's
playing on Spain's national team and is and and could
be one of the best strikers we ever see, depending
on how his career goes. Is that a lot of
(30:25):
players And this is what I really enjoy about soccer
is when I see players that are so heady that
they get what to do, that they get into How
many strikers in that kind of situation would see that
and they would just try to get in the way
of the ball, or they pull up a bit where
he says, I can get the contact and get us
a penalty. Like watching you know what, watching some of
(30:45):
the games over the weekend, I'm saying to myself, why
why are forwards in the box just stopped? Why are
they not moving when when you when you're looking for
a for a pass from the from from the wing
or or or something that that's coming down the side
where you see the you see breaking open, Like, why
are guys just standing there? And I said, man, just
the people that have that extra sense of what to
(31:07):
do in a situation. That's the difference between being a
star player and absolute superstar, Like, not many guys would
have done what Jamal did, right. I give him again
tons of credit for it because it won the game,
but boy, I still didn't like it. Yeah, I mean
that's the headliner play. And over the course of the
day he was called off sides and a number of
times had.
Speaker 2 (31:25):

(32:04):
We'll have more in this game coming up in a
few minutes, as well as an update on Junior Kamanaro
leaving the game with a big hit by pitch injury
earlier this game, Cam and Naro caam and Ero and
again the National League is one Juan Soto hit away
from being no hit in this game. Oh boy, look out,
(32:26):
But today we get word. As you know, Rich Paul
and Clutch Sports Lebron James doing as much as they
can to make Lebron James' free agent decision as much
like the decision in twenty ten as they can. Tyrese
Maxiy the seventy six Ers says that he and a
couple of his teammates have spoken to Lebron James about
joining the Sixers. Now this is actually speaking to him
(32:48):
and not leaving a voicemail. No no, no, no, no,
this is not the voicemail. Yeah, Rich Paul, I assume
certain players all the way to Lebron, And you don't
have to right like I like if Chris Finch wanted
to call, they would say, yeah, you're leaving a voicemail,
Tyre smatch, she's gonna call. Oh do you can get
right through him?
Speaker 2 (33:08):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (33:08):
Okay, great that works out, okay, okay. As long as
you can verify it's actually them, tylu is gonna call no, no, no,
You go right to voice. What if it's what if
it's someone pretending to be Joel Embiid is gonna call? Well, God, Joel,
you can go all the way and all of a
sudden it's Amie g or the Jerky Boys. So let
me give Lebron some free advice right here. Again, he's
(33:29):
gonna wind up going to Cleveland. But here's the story
with the seventy six ers. Run from the seventy six ers.
Run from this situation. Run from it. I get that
they brought in Jalen Brown. It was a great trade,
right You traded away a guy that seemingly was untradable
and you got a guy that probably should ran in
the top three for MVP last year. You are building
(33:52):
kind of the way the Knicks have done it right
with a with a strong starting five. We're gonna put
the strongest starting five weeken out there. We play a
couple of guys off the bench. But this is what
we're looking to do, right, Okay, but run from this,
do not you have no idea the seventy six ers again,
Philadelphia teams perennially have one foot on the banana peel
(34:14):
at all times, right, Like, whether it's the Eagles, the Phillies,
the Sixers, one foot on the banana peel. I could
take one step maybe, but I could take one step
and just slip and fall into the abyss. I can
fall like the Black Widow off that, off the top
of that. Oh oh well, well, I mean she ran,
Hawkeye tried to save her. I mean, you know, like that,
that's how a murderer you could fight. Well, he Hawkeye
(34:35):
had his demons. Here's a lot going on. Yeah, I'm
only an archer. What do you expect me to do?
How do we not get at least three movies or
another season of him going around as RONI? Yeah, I
think Rogers the musical was the was the That was
pretty good. I think that was the way. Hey, you
know what, let's end it right here. I'm really just
trying to figure out how we get an extra season
(34:56):
of Linda Cardellini. But that's okay. You're gonna get her
his pamfore he in The Fright of the Thirteenth prequel
comes out on my birthday. Spoiler alert, She's the one
killing Oh how dare you what are you doing? The
thing is she's dressing like Thelma from Scooby Doo when
she kills all win. Yeah. Yeah, oh look it's Thelma.
I'm here solving a mystery, like, uh, what's your face?
(35:20):
Lansbury hanging around on murders. She I'm gonna go back
to something Austin Reeves said about the Knicks when they
asked him, what did you see the Knicks winning the
championship this year? And he said, one of the best
things that we don't talk about as much for the Knicks,
and he said, those guys sure look like they love
playing with each other. Those guys sure look like they
all love playing together. And that's something you need to
(35:43):
we need to talk about more. The chemistry that guys
had the Knick starting five of the guys coming off
the bench. If you're trying to build, it's an app
comparison as you're trying to build this like the Knicks are.
Do you even know that these guys are gonna like
each other? There's there's one basketball there's a lot of mouths. Defeed,
you know that already. Jalen Brown and Joel Embiid they
didn't like each other on social media. Now there's there's
(36:04):
different reports. They haven't spoken, they've spoken. Do you really
think Philadelphia is worth the risk of jumping this could
this could be great. It could also be an absolute disaster. Yeah,
but he gets sing Shaggy's rous and meat the whole
time runs. He went from Filma to Shaggy like he
did this. They were here there. Yeah, it was Scoop scoop,
but not my first time. You don't know how this
(36:25):
is going. Like, it could be great, it could also
be terrible. You don't know how Joel Embid's going to play.
You don't know how Jalen Brown's gonnauddly fit in with
the team that you thought, Hey we're backcourt River with
Maxie and vj Edgecombe. No, no, no, how is this
going to goun Is a Beid gonna be available away
right away? Look, if your Lebron you just watched you
had to carry all the young guys in La. Let
(36:45):
the Sixers do their thing. Man, go back to Cleveland.
Cleveland thirty nine percent, Golden State at twenty seven percent,
Miami Philadelphia both fifteen to sixteen percent. Exit I about
a Fresca exit swalling down the Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Carmen coming up next. We got
more on the potential near no hitter in the All
Star Game and more on the biggest sporting result of
