(00:52):
tonight where we began last night Freeway series. This time
it's show Heyo Tani on the mound, trying out for
twenty nine, hoping to continue the Angels season as it
doesn't look like he's going to be traded. But you know, hey,
the Dodgers and Mets I'm sure watching him very closely.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
With Now, if he gets through six innings, does Dave
Roberts come to take him out. Evidently there were some
heated discussion yesterday. We talked about it about to take
him out now. Hey, listen, he's too good. Let's I'm
gonnake him out now. But we joked about it yesterday
with with Dave Roberts and Clayton Kershaw, And evidently it
comes to pass that there were a number of conversations
before he hit the mound again for the seven, a

(01:30):
lot of Mike and then today because of the short
staff waiting on guys to get healthy.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
The your bullpend game with Bruce Dark.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Graderol versus Otani. Do you think he gets to steal
the lineup card? If your grad all yet?

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Can I have this, dude, I'm show what what I
did exactly. I'm telling you Oral's gonna pitch the third inning.
Fernando's gonna pitch the fourth inning. That's how it's gonna go.
It's unbelievable, that's what's gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
But the other thing I was laughing right Driving in
traffic today Southern California was just a mess, as as
it often is.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Cofax is on like a taxi guy. Hey, can you
a taxi squad. He can get down to the ballpark
really really fast, can drive down I live somewhere down
and throw a little bit.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
You're laughing as the the Angels side of the broadcast, like,
don't worry. Uh, it's gonna be busy because the Dodgers
are here. You'll get plenty of parking, plenty of parking.
They'll get your parked as soon as they can. But
we got you, We got like just desperation, like you're
gonna turn us off and you're gonna turn away because
there's actually people at the ballpark.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Yeah, but it's it's packed tonight. It's like you can't,
you can't Dodgers. Yeah, I'm gonna drive right up at
five to seven park, right and there's gonna be a
guy standing there with a sandwich waiting.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
What was the giveaway tonight, Mike get food walk in?

Speaker 1 (02:50):
What did they give away tonight?

Speaker 2 (02:51):
I know Friday they got a like a floppy hat
kind of promotion going on.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Hat. No, you know, I said, I was for the clarification.
Everything's got to be how do you not have everything?
Nothing else?

Speaker 2 (03:03):
You should hand a sticker of otani. Whatever the giveaway is,
it may not officially be one. But here's a sticker
to make it one.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
Here's your Anthony Rendon transactions giveaway where we h l
that's what that's what you're saying. Uh So we'll keep
you updated on this game. Nothing nothing, as the Angels
come to bat in the bottom of the second thing
so far Shotani, no trouble through the first two for

(03:31):
the Angels. Meanwhile, it's been it's been so long. It's
been year. It's been it's been it's been years since
we were able to say Christaps Porzingis is a big
enough story to do at the very beginning of the show.
But here's where we are. Does it get his song back?
Jus big enough for that? I don't know. It could

(03:54):
be a song story. No, it's the Celtics. But we
are on the proper veto's celebrate because it's the Celtics.
Right that said it's gonna be the Celtics. Doesn't matter
as there is a big three team trade that is
being work done now, and depending on who you listen to,
there's varying degrees of whether or not it's done. The Celtics, Clippers,
and Wizards are working on a three team trade. It

(04:15):
would see the Celtics get Christops Porzingis, the Clippers would
get Malcolm Brognen, Marcus Morris and a couple other players
would then head to the Wizards. But the big deal
in this is Porzingis. And look, we told you a
week and a half ago. Last year's Wizards team owns
the future of the NBA. They are the story this offseason.

(04:36):
Bradley Beal's going to the Suns, Christops Porzingis potentially likely
to the Celtics. And then Kyle Kuzman is a free agent.
What's he going to do? Last year's now you go, boy,
last year's Wizards team really stunk. They yeah they should
have been. But I gotta say, and and I know,
and I've fallen for Porzingis before, and I've fallen for
this part of it, and then before I realize, Okay,

(04:58):
he just he just isn't that guy. But I really
like this trade for the Celtics. Yes, they're losing Brogden,
but they're gaining a guy who when he plays, is
incredibly dynamic. And I know, when he plays is a
big caveat to have, but he has been healthy and
now enough to play in sixty ish games a year,
which is how many games your star is playing. Now
they play in sixty ish games a year. I don't

(05:19):
know that he's a unicorn anymore, but when he is
your third or fourth best player, that's terrific. Because we
saw he melted in the spotlight of New York. He
either didn't want it or was too was too young
and naive to know what it meant to be a
big star. They wanted to make him the biggest star
in the league, and Chris Tocksporzenk has found a way
to get out go to Dallas where things didn't work out,

(05:40):
try to reinvent himself in Washington. If he's one of
those guys that I want to make money and stay
out of the spot light and play, that's it. That's
what he wants to do, and this will allow him
to do that because at best he is the third
best player for the Celtics, maybe the fourth depending on
how things go. You know how White is going to
continue to move on and impressing his NBA career. But

(06:02):
you're talking about a guy who's coming in that is
a big that can hit threes, that can stretch the floor,
that defensively is pretty good. So you see this deal
and go, Man, that's a team that had to get Porzingis.
Not where hey, we're gonna team up with somebody and suddenly, no,
it's not NBA jam where you can go Porzinga. Now
it's not gonna work. But when Porzingis is your third
or fourth best guy, that works. I hate to say

(06:23):
it because it sucks for the Knicks. I gotta watch
them play, But this is gonna work. This is a
big move. The Celtics get this done. It's a great
day for them.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Well else, I gotta say for porzingis also kind of
a big deal. I mean, first questions that you want
to ask him is he had the opportunity to opt
out and hit free agency instead opts in for the
thirty six million. He said, well, where's he getting thirty
six million? It's like, do you see them the money
that's being the ideas of contract sizes for guys that

(06:51):
don't do what he does, that art of his stature,
that can't play both ends of the court. I mean,
the money is going to be there, so to opt
in and allow this trade to be facilitated, that's that's
question number one for him, but for the Celtics, you
get a guy went healthy twenty three points a game,
eight boards, one point five blocks last year. Can he

(07:12):
stay healthy? Maybe maybe not. Maybe he can keep his
minutes down. It's not that, but that's the thing.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
He need to play thirty five minute. You can keep
his minutes down and that will help him continue to achieve.
Remember the guy still Yeah, he's still on the right
side of thirty.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
Well, because that's the other thing, right you you brought
up the Knicks and because well, we have to do
it here. It's like, not only was it his immaturity, right,
his brother was chirpy around him. You had a Knicks
organization that, God love him, they didn't know what they
were doing, and.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
They were doing when they drafted on.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
But even Phil Jackson, right, and in his tenure there,
it didn't go according to plan. Right, we look at
it and best laid plans and all of that, and
he moves on and he's bounced now. But you go
to Boston where you can be one of those secondary
guys and still be able to stretch the floor and
open things up. I find it funny that once again,

(08:09):
uh the Clippers become the home of the sixth Man
of the Year, I don't know if their guys up
top are gonna be able to give you any substance
of minutes, but damn it, there's always the sixth man
of the Year at the ready for the Clippers in
Brogden showing up, so you know that's going on.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
Hey guys, look here, I mean Lou Williams just for
a time.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
It's like, you know, we really could use on this
roster the guy that was kind of like Lou Williams.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
Great, Hey, we can go get the actual raining sixth
man of the year. Let's go. You know what this
is like, This is like when okay, Brogen's showing up
with the Clippers. Is like in college when something happened
and you didn't go out with all your friends the
night before because you had to study for it. That's
whatever it is. And you're like all excited and you
show up at in you know, in the in the

(08:55):
in their room at like ten thirty in the morning,
excited for Saturday. Hey we're going, we're going, We're going,
and you've opened the door going, hey i'm here, and
they're all just like passed out, going yeah whatever, Yeah,
I'm sorry, that's everybody. I'm here.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
He shows up. Meanwhile, he's asking questions at me. It
was like, Hey, is Paul George gonna be back?

Speaker 1 (09:19):
Paul George is the greatest player. Wow, that's a whole
others don't work man. Yeah, but look, I can't believe
I'm saying this, and I feel like I'm getting you
know again, anytime I say I can't belive I'm saying this,
I know this person is just one step away from
being on my never again list. No, sure, because this
is the last chance for Porzingis. This is last chance
hotel for him. I can say that you did that
he is. I know I did. But this is the

(09:41):
last because now that I haven't.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
To your point about Washington though, when he showed up
and you look at what that roster was on paper
and what that starting lineup looked like, they should be
able to compete in the East and they yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
No, look it's uh. Now that I have the never
again list, Yeah, now it's easy for me to put
somebody almost to it. I have like seven or eight seven. Yeah,
but this is a Porzingis. This is the last time
he's on it. But I mean it, Look, the Celtics need,
they need leadership. They need that what that extra, that
extra bit of intangibles that they're missing because they're talented enough,

(10:15):
they're good enough, but they're just missing that little bit.
And if Porzingis is not somebody coming and saying, hey,
follow me, but he's someone that's going to say, hey,
I'm gonna sit here and just show you that you can.
You You don't have to worry about doing too much
on the court because I will stretch, I will hit
a three, I will play well defensively, I'll be up

(10:36):
and down. I am that big option that you need.
And teams won't be able to just hey, Blanket League
say hey it's Tatum and Brown and that's it. Right.
Anybody else comes in, but Tatum and Brown, Tatum and Brown,
that's what we got. They won't be able to do that,
and that's going to help them. Now. The Celtics need
that maturity and they need Joe Mizulaa to kind of,
you know, go from year one to year two and
show that I actually know what I'm doing sometimes during games.

(10:58):
But the Celtics, along with that breed of maturity, now
bring in Porzingis, and I mean it when you slot
him in there and say Okay, he's our third or
fourth best guy. That's a big deal. Man. I'm scared
of the Celtics now. I was ready to I wrote
them off. I'm like, ah, let's us screw them. Man,
Wait what look how one? Because they're going they're running
it back with the same group that they fell short
with that they obviously had a lot of problems between

(11:21):
the years, right, that's what it was mentally with them. Yeah. Fine,
now they say, oh, now we have a little bit
more excitement, and we got a player who can come
in and do things and has shown that I can
still be that guy. And if it's sixty games a year,
that's the new seventy five games a year. So that's why.
And I'm talking about this now and I'm mad because
now the Celtics now I'm scared of them again. Now
the Knicks are gonna have competition in the East. They

(11:42):
gotta make a big trade and they're gonna have to
go get somebody, which they will. But now I'm scared
of the Celtics again. Now they're gonna be good. I
like this, I'm getting this done. Would be an unbelievable day.
And just real quick, Brad Stevens has made some pretty
good trades he has traded. He every trade he has
made so far has been a ooh, I don't know
all that really worked out? Ooh I don't know. Oh,

(12:04):
hey that worked out. So he has the cachet to say,
all right, hey you trust me, Well yeah, because the
deals you have made have really worked. And in an
NBA where you need to continue every year to evolve
and get better and change the rot, you can't keep
staying the same all the moves he has made. Let
me look where they are. The Celtics are still really good.
Look how far they got this year. Almost they were

(12:25):
going a game of the NBA Final. So he's been
able to keep that going. I gotta give him a
lot of credit.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
To no no question, consistency and continuity in teams. We
talk about it all the time. It's rarefied air. We're
always looking and reacting at a breakneck pace, team to team,
league the league. As things are found to be winning
ways right, everybody wants to adopt without really restructuring their

(12:51):
offices and everything all the way down. I thought Brad
steven should have gone back to the sideline. But we'll
get more Missoulla. The big question is will they be
able to keep Grant Williams in the process, a guy
who's a restricted free agent and will probably run ten
twelve million or so on the open market. So curiosity
there as you look to the depth and whether you're

(13:12):
able to keep key cogs around.

Speaker 4 (13:14):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven

songs every night and anybody could do better. Come down
to the studio now, we'll hire you. At midnight, Hey, are.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
We gonna go to that Cavalcade of Stars by Tears
for Fear?

Speaker 1 (13:45):
Stop all of you saying, are we going to a
concert with Tears for Fears in it?

Speaker 5 (13:49):
No?

Speaker 1 (13:49):
Not doing it. But there's like thirty acts. It's a
cavalcade of stars. Not doing it, not doing it, not happening,
not happening. Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with
My best friend Mike Harmon live from the Tirak dot
Com studios. This out of the show brought to you

So I I never say this. I never say this
because I just I just never say it. But you
need to disregard everything I've said for the last twelve minutes. Well,

(14:35):
it was good at Nowaitch, which I'm okay with because
this means.

Speaker 6 (14:38):
Hey, the next don't have to worry about the Celtics anymore.

Speaker 2 (14:42):
Yeah, well they're not Nicksnicks, but yes, it does get
you excitable.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
Well I'm excited. I don't care.

Speaker 2 (14:50):
But that's what we do. We red react and we
get right back into it.

Speaker 6 (14:54):
Because according to Age, I mean, I put out this tweet,
we talked about this like it was it. Oh it's
grade seven minutes, so fantastic analysis. But it was all
prefaced by the fact that it can't become finalized.

Speaker 1 (15:07):
So the first it was a three time about six
minute abs. It was a three team trade. Right, big
NBA news on the the NBA Draft, Chris tops Porzingis
was going to the Celtics. Right, Malcolm Brogden was going
to the Clippers. Marcus Morris, a couple other players. Draft
pick was gonna go to the Wizards. This is a
big deal, right the Wizard, Nailo Gallinari. That's part of it,
just so we could say his name. Last year's Wizards

(15:29):
hold the key to the offseason. This was happening. The
Celtics would scare me if they got Porzingis because he
needs to be the third or fourth best kind of team.
All these things we said, And now here's Adrian wal
Jerowski ESPN, NBA inside one minute ago, one minute, one minute,
one minute ago, while you were crying and complaining about

(15:52):
the entry. Well, I was really upset, and I'm gonna
worry about the Celtics and Porzingis and he's gonna just
make plays and are gonna make me go, tom? Why
couldn't he do this? Why couldn't be comfortablehen he's playing
with us all as crap? Well, the Knicks will still suck,
stop stop the nip. According to WOJ, the three team
trade that would center around a Porzingis Brogden deal with

(16:15):
the Celtics, Wizards, and Clippers have fallen apart. Sources tell
ESPN the sides are moving on. So now there will
be no porzingis brogged in trade involving the Celtics, the
Wizards of the Clippers. It's all gone. He could have
tweeted it out like like, I don't know, like five
minutes before that, so we didn't spend all that time

(16:37):
talking about But again, I'm.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
Analysis, yeah, but it was good analysis of what Poorzingis
is as a player and what his role could be
for a team where he doesn't have to be the
number one guy. I got my sixth Man of the
Year joke in on all those Clipper fans out there,
So we got that in.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
I mean, it was good.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
Astute analysis with the information that was presented to us
at the time that the big voice guy told us
it was time to yell at each other. It's not
my fault that fifteen minutes later. You know what, things change,
We learned anything from draft day. We live in a
different world than we did thirty seconds ago. I mean,
this is I we just did it. We just did it.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
And now, hey, hey, trades falling apart? Well, how's fall
how's allfulling apart?

Speaker 2 (17:23):
Well, that's the thing. At this point, WOJ gives us
no details. It's just falling over. And now tor Zingis
realized he wasn't getting more than thirty six million dollars
somewhere else.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
Well, now you're going to get more teams that are
jumping in on Porzingis because now, okay, now he's out,
Lakers could jump in on Poard. There's a lot of
teams that want Porzingo.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
But it still requires him to opt in, yeah, yeah,
to his contract to make that happen.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
Right, But he had talked about wanting to do that,
like I'm I'm going to opt in because he wants
to make something happen. He wants to get someplace else.
So I don't think he was going to get some
replace anyway. Right, it was a player option, so it
could have gone be a free agency or which is
why I had the question that I did was, well,
you opted in to help them facilitate things. Why do

(18:05):
you feel like you need to help them because I
can't keep envisioning him in a Warriors uniform. It could Yeah,
I'll tell you it's gonna be wide open for him
because again, another team where he would be that, well,
if it's the Warriors, he'd probably be their second best player,
So that would be a bit of a question, but
no teams are gonna jump back in, and hopefully it's
a Western Conference team. And now I feel better about

(18:26):
the next than I did five minutes ago, because yeah,
it's okay. The other piece is to take it.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
Kuzma is reportedly going to opt out, so he will
be a free agent, and whether there's a reunion somehow
with making the money work with the Lakers or wherever
he ends up. You get a capable shooter and a
guy who's grown quite a bit. So again the Wizards
keeping things moving. But you know, woj, this is information

(18:50):
that would have been useful to us. I don't know
about thirty one minutes ago.

Speaker 1 (18:54):
Yeah, yeah, no, you're right. I mean I would have
liked to know that he had, because then we would
have been looking like bills up, like he was listening,
going and I'll wait and they're done and now tweet
out not happening. Take that, Jason and Mike wout.

Speaker 2 (19:07):
But he really enjoyed the analysis, so he was riveted,
which is why he didn't release that. While we were
making that that cojin argument and discussion.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
Point and he's not tipping picks anymore, so we had
to get this one out.

Speaker 1 (19:19):
Yeah, I really this trade that everybody spent all day
talking about this and that we're waiting game on that
and now no trade, no trae.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
Now we just start throwing stuff against the wall of
guys who could be traded, because that's the other favorite
past time in these finals. Twenty two hours before the draft,
let's go.

Speaker 1 (19:38):
So there you go. We had that news coming in,
so we wanted to bring that to you first. Again,
noborz ingots traits great, great analysis. The first time we've
opened a show with porzingis in like six years. We
got the song in and everything you got got you
got got. Hey, I'm glad we got that song in before.

Speaker 3 (19:54):
The trade got Yeah, that song's been deleted.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
But it doesn't matter. I mean we got leave.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
Look in the next four hours, might be affiliated with
six or seven more teams.

Speaker 1 (20:02):
Oh man, I could be back to the Celtics MIC
in about five minutes. You never know, you never know.
This not the team to get involved. It could work out.

Speaker 2 (20:09):
I really wanted brogged into the Clippers though, and that
the jokes right themselves.

Speaker 1 (20:13):
Yeah, but we did, but we we did. We you know,
we got a few minutes. Sometimes you only get to
be on top of the mountain for a certain amount
of time, then you gonna climb back up again.

Speaker 2 (20:22):
We're going Sisyphis, Wait, Sisyphus or Cerberus? Who put is
the three headed dog?

Speaker 5 (20:28):
No?

Speaker 1 (20:29):
Okay, now, who's the one? Icarus is too close to
the sun Flight of Iron Maiden.

Speaker 2 (20:37):
That was the troop erection A couple of lines of
the Great Gutter Twins song as well.

Speaker 1 (20:43):
Okay, so Icarus too close to the sun? Cerberus three
headed dog? Sure was a dog? A dog? Really? Okay?
And now yeah, basically Fluffy, it's Fluffy, okay, very good?
No or fang? No, Fluffy was three headed dog? Fang? Right, right, guy?

Speaker 3 (20:58):
Yeah, Jalen Bronson could got traded the night.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
We're gonna get PF Changs for dinner and there's none
for you. Now, if you say that again, there's none
for you zero zero will not be getting traded. There
we go. See that's how you do it tonight. I
should have said it like Ryan Secrets. When you do
is commercials at PF Chanks. Try to be first thing
in the morning though, uh not happening.

Speaker 4 (21:19):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
Well, I promised you. Hey, you want a hot take,
I got it for you. But it has to do
with play here gets now, there's no there's no PF
chanks for you now and now it's out. Cancel the order,
cancel the order, cancel everything just left. You're out. Frostburg's out.
Harmon has no money. I'm just getting it for myself.

(21:49):
That's it. I'm the only one getting it now. That's
like kings of it. That's right. I'm gonna eat everybody's
food and I'm only gonna pay. So yeah, here's your
hot take. It's got to do with the hottest team
in Major League Baseball.

Speaker 5 (21:59):
The pitch down swinging a line drive, caught on it
first by Spencer Steer and that's it. Reds win it.
Make it eleven straight for the Red Legs, but the
Reds hold on. They win it five to three over
the Rockies. Eleven straight wins for this magic goal Reds team.

Speaker 1 (22:19):
There it is Reds Radio Network on the call. They've
won eleven in a row in first place in the
NL Central. And here's your hot here's your hot take.
You ready, let's go all right, there's been a lot
of talk. You look at the teams that are surprising
playing so much right now in the National League, a
lot of talk about Ronald Lacunya. Hey, what a great

(22:40):
hear he's has like people forty let's give yeah, oh,
you only use twenty five more home runs? An okay,
just let's let's just but he projects, yes, I know,
I know a one hundred and seventy eight home runs.
And it's like people have wanted to give him something
for the last Let's give him. He's so good, Let's
give him something. Let's give him in a war, Let's
give him anything. Right, so I get a kunya. But
how about this hot take? Elie de la Cruz National

(23:02):
League Most Valuable Player, Most valuable playing about it straight,
think about it, think about we've seen it before, right,
We've seen it happened before him, Rookie the Year, an MVP.
He hasn't been up that long, but you can trace
the Reds rise to bringing him up right there, eleven
and two. Since he came up. He is as exciting

(23:23):
a player as there is in Major League Baseball. He's
got a lot of buzz about him, so he's trading
gear with Patrick Mahomes. He has that it factor about him.
The Reds are a great story. There, a heritage team
in Major League Baseball who suddenly now could be good
again for the first time in a while. That's gonna
gain a lot of attention. He's hitting three hundred, he's
the fastest player. He beat out a routine grounder on

(23:45):
Monday Night. He is incredibly excited. He's got an ops
of eight hundred. The Reds keep winning. I know he's
just up now. But you talk about MVP if it's
a year where hey, we're kind of waiting for people
to cut through this nobody who's jumped to the forefront. Hey,
this guy's going at sixty five home runs and knocking
hundred fifty runs. Elie de la Cruz National League MVP.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
Well, I'd like to think, well, I mean, you're gonna
get some massive odds right now, So I mean we
might want to make a run to the desert and
just say, what do I get? What kind of odds
gonna get on this? Because it is such a new phenomenon.
Now you get Joey Vado back as a squad. The
bullpen's been fantastic. Top ten in TV era. Your closer
has been perfect twenty for twenty thus far. So all

(24:27):
of those things checking boxes, I'll be curious to see
what else they add to their rotation. They're gonna need
a little more help and fortification there, relying on some
young arms. So like we talk about with the back
end of the Dodgers rotation, guys like Bobby Miller, whatever,
where you're like, all right, we're gonna need to have
someone else because they're gonna approach that innings threshold. And

(24:48):
we look at the Reds actually playing some meaningful baseball
in a bad division. Go and take advantage of a
down year from Saint Louis where the Cubs have got
a couple of top performers but overall a middling squad.
Go on down the line. Pittsburgh just had another massive
losing streak. All of that opportunity and opportunity Knox take
down Milwaukee and if he performs any kind of level,

(25:13):
I mean, there's there's sex appeal to it because he's
one of those touted prospects for the last couple of years,
you know, me Owing to my love of the prospecting
world as it comes to collectibles, trading cards or whatever.
Dela Cruz as soon as he came up, the market
just blew up before he'd even taken it back. So

(25:33):
the expectations out of there and you're gonna get that
residual run is what I'm trying to say. Become just
like the Akunya Junior. People want to see x y
Z de la Cruz is one of those guys as well.
In the story of how he worked his contract and
got through the minor leagues or whatever, is also the
curiosity to write, well, we give you a higher percentage

(25:54):
of future earnings because you're helping feed me. Now get
a lot of blowbacks, So some xtra juice to his
story as well.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
You know when you have and the thing is, when
you have that it factor, it's different and you don't
need to play in a big market that now everybody
gets found. It doesn't matter where he comes. But he
came in with that it factor. And when you come
in with that already and you gain our attention, you
become a bigger story right away. If he was just
a prospect who came up and has been playing pretty well,
the reds okay, he's not gaining any attention but here

(26:25):
he is after a handful of games, right fifty five
at bats and suddenly look at what he is. Look
how good the Reds are. You can trace their rise
to bringing him up. That's a really big deal. You
you hit the ground running, he came up and started playing. Well,
look at all the Anthony Volpi could have won MVP
if he came in and showed that, Hey, I can
hit at least two hundred because of all the hype

(26:47):
long run. I mean, look at all the chances he got. Yes,
he was a Yankee, he's a Yankee shortstop. He all,
I'm gonna take over for Jeter. This is gonna be
our answer. So but you look at when players come
up with that hype, what they can wind up happen,
and when when everything goes your way, and for the
Reds it's it's going your way with there's no runaway

(27:08):
player for MVP right now in the National League. Your
team is the story. You are legitimate, and here's we
can trace back your rise to this guy. He's got
everything you need everything. It's a good story.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
He's right, and he's six y five and yeah, towers
over guys. There was a great photo that made the
rounds of him after a double standing there and you
have the second baseman and shortstop standing next to him,
and he's a good nine inches over.

Speaker 1 (27:34):
He looks like they're older brother. My older brother just
hit a double off one of those things.

Speaker 2 (27:37):
Kind of like when min Yama was walking around yesterday,
I's like, do you realize the guy standing next to
him is six ' five?

Speaker 1 (27:43):
So Counya Jr.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
As we sit here tonight is the slight favorite Corbyn Carroll,
who's had a monster season. Who's going to fight him
for Rookie of the Year and MVP. He's five to one.
Freddie Freeman who homered earlier tonight off Otani at seven
to one and Arays at twenty five to one.

Speaker 1 (28:01):
Well the guy it's four hundred issue, but that's probably
not gonna for a while.

Speaker 2 (28:04):
But hitting right, yeah, So and then you get into
mookie bats. Tatis Junior hit his fifteenth yesterday. Juan Soto,
he of the I'm late to get back into the
field is at thirty five hundred.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
I had to go to the bank. Wait a while,
is that thirty five to one? And then you started
drifting from there. But the thing is dey la Cruz
is also made for to see the highlights every Hey,
did you see this? Did you see what de la
Cruz did last night? Did you see this? Did you
see that? I said when he beat out an average
routine grounder on Monday, it became a big thing, like just.

Speaker 2 (28:36):
Make sazy stride and the swing is so I mean,
it's it's just, you know, it's one of those that
you put up with the images of some of those
great So that's what's been pretty cool between Alrice uh
and you know this story where we're starting to talk
about hitters again as opposed to just power guys, and

(28:57):
I think that's good.

Speaker 4 (28:58):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (29:08):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. Jason, you like the song? No why?
Right away? I don't why. I don't know what song
is it? Do you like how it sounds? Is it
a trick? I want to find out who it is.
It's Cold War kids? Okay? You dig the vibe? Are
they the kids of the people who are in Tears
for Fears. No, they're like a like a poor man's

(29:31):
cold Play. I'd say, what's the name of the band.
They're called Cold War Kids, So cold War Kids is
kind of a one level down from Coldplay. So I
would like the poppy version. I just want to see
if you like them, because they're opening up four Tiers
for Fears. That's a pretty good double bill. Then I
don't know that i'd want to even see Coldplay. Wow,
they're depressing too. You want to go see cold Playing?

(29:54):
They would do a Viva Levin and then I'd want
to leave. Okay, I want to here Clocks or The
Scientist one more time. No, I'll hear Viva Lavina. I
just want to sing along to fix You. It's not
co play. It's not fix You. It's it's not The
Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon. Today, the US women's

(30:15):
national team was announced for the upcoming World Cup. Gonna
have all our attention coming up very very soon, World
Cup in New Zealand. Some surprises on the roster, but
to no one's surprised, the leaders are going to be well.
We have Megan Rapino and Alex Morgan will be upfront
like they normally are, and many familiar faces from the

(30:35):
previous World Cup the last couple of years Rose level,
Lindsey Horan, Julie Ertz also named you though she hadn't
played that much. Listen, there is the keeper, but they
have some young players on the roster, and there gave
a couple of spots to some players who hadn't really
eaten had any caps because they've got so many injuries
right now. But as this guy announced today, and there's

(30:56):
all the drug, what's gonna have? What's gonna happen? Look,
we go into this World Cup not the overwhelming favorite
for the first time I don't know twenty years or
you don't go in as the overwhelming favorite to win
long long time. And I can already see what the
issue is going to be, Like, I could already see
the biggest thing you look forget about the age. Eighteen
year olds can come up and play and do pretty well.

(31:17):
Women playing for the first time can do well. It's okay,
it'll work. But the big issue is gonna be scoring goals,
because how many minutes can Meghan Rapino really play? And
is Alex Morgan still an elite level scorer? I don't
know that she is. And the injury to Mattory Swanson
is huge because you know they're gonna lie on her
for a lot of offense. Maybe Sophia Smith can can

(31:38):
can handle a little bit of that, but I don't know.
It's almost like watching a burhol To team who's gonna score.
I mean, in theory you have a couple of play
boy But just because you see Megan Repina when Alex
Morgan doesn't mean it's the four years ago or eight
years ago Alex Morgan and Meghan Rapino. So that that's
gonna that the biggest issue is gonna be how are
they gonna put the ball in the net. That's gonna
be a huge deal for them.

Speaker 2 (31:59):
Well yeah, Thompson Youngster, the plays for Angel f C
watched that game against San Diego this past week, and
one thing Alex Morgan is still able to do, besides
being introduced to the squad by Taylor Swift today that
so you got that little bonus whatever you can add
Taylor Swift to the proceedings you've won, is that she's

(32:20):
been doing a really great job of setting people up
for that San Diego squad. So perhaps as a playmaker
for Smith, for Thompson, for Trinity Rodman. You got young legs, fast,
and someone who's a precision passer to maybe not only
still add to her own level of dominance in the

(32:40):
international play, but also to set up the stars of
the next generation. As we sit here tonight, United States
slight favorites over England and then Spain at six to one,
Germany seven to one, France at nine to one.

Speaker 1 (32:55):
So that's the bit, not that they can't win it.
I'm not being you know, negative now here. They can't
win it, but they're going in as not quite the
overwhelming favorite. They're gonna struggle a lot. This is gonna
be one of those can they piece it together because
they've yet to really embrace the new generation. This is
supposed to be. Hey, the old guard is gone, right,

(33:15):
Rapino's retired, and now all the other players and Alex
Morgan's the senior player who's gonna play probably you know,
twenty minutes a game. They've not been able to do that.
They've not been able to get to that next level,
which shows you how special the team has been for
the last ten years. We're longing the same players. But boy,
you thought by now, this was gonna be the changing
of the guard. This is now No, we have to
try to hold on for one more before we get
to the next. Well, that's just it right. You're also

(33:37):
in that transition. You mentioned the injuries Macario, who is
another big time player they were expecting to step forward.
She's got an injury alongside Swanson, and there's several others
we haven't even named. So you're you're going with a
younger squad trying to push forward. Twitter and how about
a Fresca Mike get swollen down the Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon phone number, say seven

(34:01):
seven ninety nine on Fox. Coming up next, we have
a big story out of the NFL. Again, keep it
right here. That's not coplay, it's at you. And they
were all yellow
