in the first quarter, but the night he is having
tonight twenty four points, fourteen rebounds, four assists, two blocks,

got out to a big lead. But oh he was
well rested after getting ejected. Yeah, you got Johnson off
the bench for sixteen, right, Fox has fourteen Castle with thirteen.
This has been a This has been a typical San
Antonio Spurs basketball game. And you look, we're going to
the fourth quarter at ninety one seventy three. It looks
like it's gonna be a Spurs three to two lead
going back to Minnesota. But the thing is watching Wemby

and and I'm I'm ready to fully take the blame
for Wemby getting suspended because what did I say, Hey,
I like the pissed went right, Like then the pisted
Wemby comes back, Okay, man, Yeah, he's got he's got
an edge to him. Well, he got an edge and
he got kicked out, So I'll wear that that was
on me.

But like, oh, I mean it only cost him the
rest of that game because the NBA didn't bother to,
you know, adjudicate things with any level of excitement. I mean, again,
we talked about it yesterday of hey, if he'd actually
thrown that elbow with about a minute left in the
first half or on the other side of the break,
he said, yeah, is it? Is it a different animal.
And I still question whether Adam Silver would have had

the stones to suspend him. But here he is coming
out like a house of fire. Adam Silver would have said, please, no,
make it not the first minute of the third quarter.
That's half the game. But kind of it's in the
first half and they lost. I could get away with
not suspending him, but now I can't because it's the
third quarter. But had he played more than fourteen or
fifteen minutes, because he averages twenty nine minutes a game,
I mean.

Once you get past that, is that the threshold? I
mean I don't know, but I mean forget about stats,
forget about numbers. You know, you get inundated with them
all the time. It's again, we've talked about this. This
is the year that Victor wembin Yama becomes the best
player in the NBA and all you have to do
is watch him just just for like three offensive sets

and you just say, what am I supposed to do
with that? Defensively, how am I supposed to do anything?
I mean, sometimes I go, I don't know how the
Spurs lose a game when Wemby can back somebody down
and then everybody draws, they kick it to they kick
it to a guy that's open for a three. The
defense just just frantically tries to close. Wemby comes back

out behind a three point line, gets it and of
course hits it over whoever it's on him defensively, and
you go, what are.

You supposed to do with that? I mean, what are
you supposed to do with that?

The guy? I mean, really his skill level, like we
talk about Yan as well, we never saw someone like Giannis. Yeah,
Wemby makes Giannis look like a shooting guard. That yeahs
a guy who's gonna score twenty a game like that.
That's that's what Wemby has done. And that's where we're
at right now, where it's that switch is getting Flipper
going yep, yep. Now you know who the best player
in the NBA. Oh, we know he's the most watchable.
Whether he's the best or not, we can still always

have that fight, right because he an't win an MVP
Hendry Shammit may be the most watchable player in the NBA.

Well, I think Dylan Brooks because you were waiting for
him to come off the front row and create a
w DWE like event last night.

Hand up going. Even when I'm not having a good game,
I can still make things happen. And we've seen Webbin
Yama at times where the offensive game has had an
issue and then certainly you get yourself thrown out defending yourself.

But watching this game, I mean that dominated the points

can do it again, much like they took Yokic off
his game and first series. But when he's on and

this thing's cooking, and you talk about the youthful squad
that's around him, right, Kellen Johnson's been in in the
league a minute, sixth man and making hay over time
and having a big game here that they're just getting started,
Like that's the fun thing. But you know, we wait
on the matchup against the Thunder, assuming they finished this

series off, and seeing when Ben Yamba take that next
step and everybody getting to see him, because that was
one of the keys as.

We were like, hey, what channel is it on? Is
it on Peacock?

the third quarter on a thirty to twelve run, so again,
barring a big collapse, looks like they'll be up three
to two going to Game six. Meanwhile, today has been
a big day for Lebron James and I cannot believe,
Like I love my media breathren some of them, but

when I see the overwhelming the overwhelming story being is
Lebron's era with the Lakers a success or a failure?
And I want to say, Okay, there's a time for
that conversation, But do you really think he's not coming
back next year? Where the hell else is the guy
gonna go? I mean, we talked about it last night.
He has shown I can assimilate. I'm okay being the

number three guy. I'm okay filling a lot of different roles.
You saw the way the team was playing when it
was the big three there and Luca was healthy the
last twenty five games of the season. Yes, you're gonna
lose to the thunder when you don't have Luka Doncic
to one of the top three players in the NBA,
it's going to happen. But all of a sudden ago
the Lebron era is over. I mean, where else is
he going to go? I mean where else is he going?
At this point in Cleveland may say, yeah, you think

we're pretty good without you. We're two two with the Pistons,
We're feeling pretty good. Where else is he going to go? Now?
Unless he does something crazy like demand fifty million dollars,
the Lakers are gonna say, okay, well then you're gonna go.
But like, as long as he is okay with taking
a little bit less money so they can improve their roster,
because you heard some of the comments today coming off
of the Lakers moratorium, at one unnamed player saying, we

just don't have the overall talent. As long as the
Lakers have money to go out and get the couple
of players, they need a three and D player, another
guy to run up and down the floor, another big
Like the Lakers will be a championship team next year
and Lebron is coming back, He's not gonna go throw
cast in his lot with another team that maybe he
doesn't know how they're gonna play, or maybe they're a contender,
maybe they're not the only other place he can go

is home. The only other place he can go, and
if he doesn't win, put a cherry on top of
his NBA careers Cleveland and I don't know that that's
a mix for either of them. At this point, he's
shown that as much as I don't like being the
number three guy, I'm okay with that. At this point,
I can still shine. He still was enough to single
handedly get the Lakers past the Rockets. Like, I don't know,
how do people think? Why do people think it's over?

The Lebron era is gonna continue for at least another year.

is today. The season ended last night, which means let's
evaluated for what it is right now.

it with Lebron, We've done it with so many other

and the season finishes. That all right, let's evaluate so

Really do you know? Do you know that he's not
coming back? Like I like, I've not heard any of that,

now you just needed to add the final data from

In the the bigger part is what's next, and you're
trying to evaluate that because really the only place that
it makes complete sense is, as you say, stay in
Los Angeles and they've got a lot of decisions, and
we chronicled it last night. You can go to the

it in in as succinct terms, You've got Hachimura, you

got Canard, you got Austin Reeves, you got a lot
of guys. You got to figure out what the hell
you're doing with them in terms of reconstituting this roster.
And from Lebron James, he's got to look inward. And
it's easy to say, hey, he accepted being the third guy.
Problem is he didn't have to do that very often
because these guys weren't in the lineup right. He had
to be the guy, so all of a sudden he

got to put on the cape, put on the crown,
and say, hey, I'm the gig.

You still have to bow to my knee because none
of these guys are available to play. That guy's in
a sweater while you're that guy's so mad, You're angry?

I'm still in charge here next year if those guys
are healthy, and what's to say that they are. If
those guys are healthy, is he suddenly happy in game

has to accept that role? Because I know he mentioned
that in his postgame comments and he and he threw
that out there. It's like, look at me, I did
something I never had to do. JJ Reddick went and

He don't forget really extole the virtues of how he
stepped up as the third guy for a very limited

meet them in the next round after the way the
last couple of games, when I thought the Pistons had
a really good shot at Game three, and now we
got ourselves a series there between the Pistons and the Cavs.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
All right, so before we get your prediction for the
final three games of that series, the Dodgers again winning
tonight so far against the Giants, so the game is
starting out well. But they have not been good. They
have lost a lot of games, they've fallen out of
first place. All these things. If what scale of one
to ten, If one is not at all everything is fine,
and ten is hey, they got some serious issues. Where
(23:18):
are you on the scale of concern for the Dodgers?
Speaker 3 (23:22):
I am.
Speaker 9 (23:23):
I am not terribly concerned. I'm a little bit south
of My concern is there, but it's not quite to
fifty percent. I'm gonna give it a four on the
level of ten being complete, panic one being all is perfect.
They're probably at about a four. And the reason I
say that is first of all, that they're still in
(23:45):
a playoff position as we speak right now. In terms
of the way they've played this season, You're right, no
longer in first place, they're not an offensive juggernaut, and
yet their pitching has been stable enough it will likely
get better and show Freddie Mookie they're not gonna play
like this for the whole season. It's You're right, it's
(24:05):
It is, though, a little bit jarring when you look
at their lineup and you see the average is just
not at all lining up to what you've come to
expect from this team. Two thirty eight for Otani, one
to seventy six for Bets, to seventy seven for Freddy,
which is not common. Tucker, by the way, it's amazing
how we really haven't talked that much about him this year.
(24:27):
He's had just such a a a mediocre start. I mean,
there's you look at his overall numbers, four homers, seven
thirty nine ops a two point fifty average on base
thirty four percent of the time. There's a lot of
outfielders that can do that. That's not really one of
the richest contracts in the history of the game that
you'd expect based on those numbers. So I think Tucker
(24:50):
is at least as surprising in a negative way as
anyone else on this roster. So uh, it's again, these
are all reasons to be a little worried, but I'm
not panicked. This remains a team that is in the
top five of Major League Baseball in both runs scored
and runs allowed, so they're still by and large doing
(25:12):
the things that elite teams do in aggregate, even though
the individual numbers just don't seem to add up. And
Otani's not often hitting on days that he pitches any longer,
so they just look a little bit less special than
they did a year ago. But they're still pretty good
baseball team.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
Well, it's the beauty of if you're Tucker you come
into the Dodgers, everybody's going to be looking at other
big names, right Sasaki and his struggles, although he's pitched
better last couple times out, but certainly everything with Otani
magnified to the umpteenth degree, will allow you to just
kind of hide in the background a little bit.
Speaker 9 (25:45):
Well, that's right, And you think about it, if Tucker
had signed with a number of other teams that have
maybe struggled to this point, or hypothetically if he ends
up signing that mega deal with the Cubs, and if
they were having a bit of a home starter, if
he can signed with the Mets, for example, or or
the Blue Jays. And and I notice how I just

led the Mets in there.

Speaker 9 (26:08):
I made a Mets sandwich, Jason. I just put the
Mets right in there.

But if if that's where that's good, force feed to

Yeah, yeah, I know, I got to talk a bit
about that. But but you're you're right, by the way,
this is what we're having this conversation at exactly the
right time. Justin basically said, you know what, Morosi, Uh,
Jason wants to move up a little bit earlier than
usual for this conversation on Tuesday. And I'm like, well,
why why is that? It's because he wants it to
be like a live a live narration of the Mets
(26:42):
dominance over the Tigers, that he wants it all happen
in real time. That was what I what I concluded here.
But be that as it may. It's a family show
where a family and so happy to do it. But
but I say that because Tucker is a little bit
he is he's a little bit insulated from the criticism
and right, wrong and different. That's just the reality right now.

I would imagine that Boba Schet's probably hearing a bit
more than than Tucker is right now. Any number of
other players that have changed addresses might be as well.
It's just the Dodgers and the number of superstars there
does tend to insulate a player from criticism a little
bit because there are just so many different players to
talk about in Dodger Blue.

All right, let me follow. Let's go to the AL
in the Al East Tampa Bay. Twenty six is the
run down or twenty three is the run differential?

The Rays are for real. They've got really good pitching
and they they have the kind of team that wins
close games. They've got a really good bullpen. It may
not be guys that we know by name all that often,
but Baker's been good closing games out Sulcer as well.
Hunter Bickie is an amazing story. Remember he was hit
by a fall ball in the last year in the
(28:01):
dugout and it ended his year. That happened in the
middle of the season and they missed the rest of
the year, and so to see him back and having
a really good season at two point four five ERA
just really nice story to see. The healthy return of
McLanahan changes the whole calculus of that team. Martinez has
been really good. Rasmussen is having one of his better
(28:21):
years too, So they have enough depth, I believe, to
then transition someone like a Griffin Jackson to a starting
role if they need him to be. They're just really good.
And then I think on the opposite side of things,
offensively around a leading the league in RBI, Simpson got
three triples already, He's on base a bunch and with
what he's able to do, so I just I think
(28:43):
they're a hard team to play against. They've gotten back
to the DNA, they had when they were really good
in the Madden years and early in the Kevin Cashiers,
which was they did little things well and they could
run the bases. They had a good bullpen, they had
a bunch of pitchers that could throw change up. It's
it's a fun team to watch play, and I believe
(29:04):
when you look at this group, they're gonna be a
force for the full season. And I think this is
why the Rays and the Yankees together. That's why it
seems like the Red Sox the Blue Jays, I don't
see them coming back in that division because the teams
at the top are good in a very sustainable way.

That's half the game. But kind of it's in the
first half and they lost. I could get away with
not suspending him, but now I can't because it's the

series off, and seeing when Ben Yamba take that next
step and everybody getting to see him, because that was
one of the keys as.

Lebron's era with the Lakers a success or a failure?
And I want to say, Okay, there's a time for
that conversation, But do you really think he's not coming
back next year? Where the hell else is the guy

He has shown I can assimilate. I'm okay being the

number three guy. I'm okay filling a lot of different roles.
You saw the way the team was playing when it
was the big three there and Luca was healthy the
last twenty five games of the season. Yes, you're gonna
lose to the thunder when you don't have Luka Doncic
to one of the top three players in the NBA,
it's going to happen. But all of a sudden ago
the Lebron era is over. I mean, where else is
he going to go? I mean where else is he going?
At this point in Cleveland may say, yeah, you think

we're pretty good without you. We're two two with the Pistons,
We're feeling pretty good. Where else is he going to go? Now?
Unless he does something crazy like demand fifty million dollars,
the Lakers are gonna say, okay, well then you're gonna go.
But like, as long as he is okay with taking
a little bit less money so they can improve their roster,
because you heard some of the comments today coming off
of the Lakers moratorium, at one unnamed player saying, we

just don't have the overall talent. As long as the
Lakers have money to go out and get the couple
of players, they need a three and D player, another
guy to run up and down the floor, another big
Like the Lakers will be a championship team next year
and Lebron is coming back, He's not gonna go throw
cast in his lot with another team that maybe he
doesn't know how they're gonna play, or maybe they're a contender,
maybe they're not the only other place he can go

is home. The only other place he can go, and
if he doesn't win, put a cherry on top of
his NBA careers Cleveland and I don't know that that's
a mix for either of them. At this point, he's
shown that as much as I don't like being the
number three guy, I'm okay with that. At this point,
I can still shine. He still was enough to single
handedly get the Lakers past the Rockets. Like, I don't know,
how do people think? Why do people think it's over?

The Lebron era is gonna continue for at least another year.

As you know, all that is required for a New

Well, they got to wait till the Knicks got really hot.

So I think it's actually a very prudent move. Now
you've got to look for Starks and Oakley and got
you know, these the guys you got to bring up.

That's right, that's right. Hey, the Knicks are looking good.
And now I'm all of a sudden a little concerned
about us. The Pistons are going to be able to
meet them in the next round after the way the
last couple of games, when I thought the Pistons had
a really good shot at Game three, and now we
got ourselves a series there between the Pistons and the Cavs.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
All right, so before we get your prediction for the
final three games of that series, the Dodgers again winning
tonight so far against the Giants, so the game is
starting out well. But they have not been good. They
have lost a lot of games, they've fallen out of
first place. All these things. If what scale of one
to ten, If one is not at all everything is fine,
and ten is hey, they got some serious issues. Where
(23:18):
are you on the scale of concern for the Dodgers?
Speaker 3 (23:22):
I am.
Speaker 9 (23:23):
I am not terribly concerned. I'm a little bit south
of My concern is there, but it's not quite to
fifty percent. I'm gonna give it a four on the
level of ten being complete, panic one being all is perfect.
They're probably at about a four. And the reason I
say that is first of all, that they're still in
(23:45):
a playoff position as we speak right now. In terms
of the way they've played this season, You're right, no
longer in first place, they're not an offensive juggernaut, and
yet their pitching has been stable enough it will likely
get better and show Freddie Mookie they're not gonna play
like this for the whole season. It's You're right, it's
(24:05):
It is, though, a little bit jarring when you look
at their lineup and you see the average is just
not at all lining up to what you've come to
expect from this team. Two thirty eight for Otani, one
to seventy six for Bets, to seventy seven for Freddy,
which is not common. Tucker, by the way, it's amazing
how we really haven't talked that much about him this year.
(24:27):
He's had just such a a a mediocre start. I mean,
there's you look at his overall numbers, four homers, seven
thirty nine ops a two point fifty average on base
thirty four percent of the time. There's a lot of
outfielders that can do that. That's not really one of
the richest contracts in the history of the game that
you'd expect based on those numbers. So I think Tucker
(24:50):
is at least as surprising in a negative way as
anyone else on this roster. So uh, it's again, these
are all reasons to be a little worried, but I'm
not panicked. This remains a team that is in the
top five of Major League Baseball in both runs scored
and runs allowed, so they're still by and large doing
(25:12):
the things that elite teams do in aggregate, even though
the individual numbers just don't seem to add up. And
Otani's not often hitting on days that he pitches any longer,
so they just look a little bit less special than
they did a year ago. But they're still pretty good
baseball team.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
Well, it's the beauty of if you're Tucker you come
into the Dodgers, everybody's going to be looking at other
big names, right Sasaki and his struggles, although he's pitched
better last couple times out, but certainly everything with Otani
magnified to the umpteenth degree, will allow you to just
kind of hide in the background a little bit.
Speaker 9 (25:45):
Well, that's right, And you think about it, if Tucker
had signed with a number of other teams that have
maybe struggled to this point, or hypothetically if he ends
up signing that mega deal with the Cubs, and if
they were having a bit of a home starter, if
he can signed with the Mets, for example, or or
the Blue Jays. And and I notice how I just
(26:06):
led the Mets in there.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
I made it.
Speaker 9 (26:08):
I made a Mets sandwich, Jason. I just put the
Mets right in there.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
But if if that's where that's good, force feed to
your dad, Force feed that doubt his throat as ten
to two tonight.
Speaker 9 (26:18):
Yeah, yeah, I know, I got to talk a bit
about that. But but you're you're right, by the way,
this is what we're having this conversation at exactly the
right time. Justin basically said, you know what, Morosi, Uh,
Jason wants to move up a little bit earlier than
usual for this conversation on Tuesday. And I'm like, well,
why why is that? It's because he wants it to
be like a live a live narration of the Mets
(26:42):
dominance over the Tigers, that he wants it all happen
in real time. That was what I what I concluded here.
But be that as it may. It's a family show
where a family and so happy to do it. But
but I say that because Tucker is a little bit
he is he's a little bit insulated from the criticism
and right, wrong and different. That's just the reality right now.
(27:02):
I would imagine that Boba Schet's probably hearing a bit
more than than Tucker is right now. Any number of
other players that have changed addresses might be as well.
It's just the Dodgers and the number of superstars there
does tend to insulate a player from criticism a little
bit because there are just so many different players to
talk about in Dodger Blue.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
All right, let me follow. Let's go to the AL
in the Al East Tampa Bay. Twenty six is the
run down or twenty three is the run differential?
Speaker 4 (27:31):
Right now?
Speaker 1 (27:31):
Nine to one in their last ten? Are they for real?
Speaker 3 (27:34):
Or is this something where the law of averages gets them?
Can they win this many close games?
Speaker 9 (27:39):
The Rays are for real. They've got really good pitching
and they they have the kind of team that wins
close games. They've got a really good bullpen. It may
not be guys that we know by name all that often,
but Baker's been good closing games out Sulcer as well.
Hunter Bickie is an amazing story. Remember he was hit
by a fall ball in the last year in the
(28:01):
dugout and it ended his year. That happened in the
middle of the season and they missed the rest of
the year, and so to see him back and having
a really good season at two point four five ERA
just really nice story to see. The healthy return of
McLanahan changes the whole calculus of that team. Martinez has
been really good. Rasmussen is having one of his better
(28:21):
years too, So they have enough depth, I believe, to
then transition someone like a Griffin Jackson to a starting
role if they need him to be. They're just really good.
And then I think on the opposite side of things,
offensively around a leading the league in RBI, Simpson got
three triples already, He's on base a bunch and with
what he's able to do, so I just I think
(28:43):
they're a hard team to play against. They've gotten back
to the DNA, they had when they were really good
