off today right the first of the of the quarterfinal
games in France's booked a spot in the in the semifinals. Boy,
I it's really hard at this point in the tournament

to see another team beating France. I know that we
talked about them being the overwhelming favorite all the way through,
and but yes, there's a lot of soccer to happen.
A lot of things can happen. Not a lot's gonna happen.
There's only two more games for France, and of the
likely teams that are going to advance, they all have problems. Right, England,
their offense looks pretty good. Defensively talked about how shaky

they look. Argentina, Hey, they needed everything they could and
and and and fortuitous officiating just to beat Egypt. You know,
the other day that was a good way to say it.
The Egyptian coach would have come a little stronger. Is
Spain can't score and you won't score against them. But
they can't score. They all have problems. France has none,

right France, France that you're seeing, this is the most
complete team and there's a reason why we talked about
them as being the overwhelming favorite. But again remember as
games go on, things happen. You have no idea how
this is gonna play it, this is gonna play out.
But there's no weakness and Embape is simply going to
score at least a goal every game, no matter why.
He could have a brace against Spain and I wouldn't

be surprised Pain went out a goal in the World Cup.
But France is just overall, it's the best roster top
to bottom. They are playing the best they are. They
have peaked from the beginning of the World Cup. It's
not like they played difficult at first, and no, they've
been playing peak performance since the beginning of the World Cup.
Morocco is a terrific team, right, they blew out Canada.
Canada was was you know, it was a feel good story,

but they in Canada is not a bad team, but
they blew them off the pitch. Hey, Jesse marsh And
is still defending his nation, and kenyat team they're doing
a podcast yes about what Yes, and Mitch Johnson, Yeah,
they're all on the same podcast together. But you know,
this is this Morocco team that just blew Canada off
the pitch and they looked like they didn't even belong
on the same They managed five shots. The one shot

on goal came very late in the game, although they
started getting possession towards the end. I'm like, all it
takes is one of these set pieces and all of
a sudden we got a little bit of chaos. It
never came, of course, but you know, you look at
just the one sided nature of it twenty two to five.
But defensively they stood strong.

I mean, because you thought it was gonna get out
of or it's pretty fast the way France started their attack.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Yeah, but watching this game and seeing how it unfolds.
You see the speed of France and the speed of Imbappe,
and just forget Morocco looked like a team that you
forget this is a top ten team in the world.
They looked like they looked like the United States playing Belgium,
where it's like, okay, we're just wow, we just have problems.

That's what France is able to do to a top
ten team overall in the World Cup. Like I go,
it's it'll be great theater. Whatever the matchup's gonna wind
up being. France beats spaint. France and England insane, France
and Argentina insane, and in the end, France will win
both of those games, probably to nothing. Like that's how
good they're playing.

But you watch the offense right and obviously imbape is
gonna be the record setter in so many ways, tied
for the Golden Boot, all those things. But you got
Dimballe who's been fantastic, and we were passing around the
note Earliers Laton with the over over praise, the over
the top on Michael Michael Olise who's got five assists. Yeah,

and it is just like watching a point guard play
in the NBA. Well, he said he was like the
Tom Brady of he gave him the Tom Brady. I
took it back to the piece of the point guard.

know what you're saying. But but just that idea of
how he sees, anticipates, and you just go into the
space because the ball is going to be waiting. It's

and it's very much the Tom. Look, he's got to
give his teammate Tom Brady a little bit of love. Yeah,
to where if you're the running back out of the backfield,
wide receiver, tight end, run your route, it's gonna hit
you in the face. So I mean, it's perfect. And
this is the way this offense runs. And you saw
what they were able to do in a dominant form today.

Now I do have to give you a hot take
as we're going on, cause you men name Jets to
the super Come on, he did that the last couple. No,
three years ago, Man, three years ago, Nix and five

disappointed in slots. Why is that much? Okay? Now, because

quite honestly, I didn't expect him to give this much
credit to teams playing well or individual players playing well

in the World Cup, because I always expected to say, hey,
what do you think of him? Bape's a lot of
time he is good, he is no oh but but wow,
but look at the record he has goal I mean,
he's been only a couple of World Cups. He's gonna
finish with thirty five goals when it's all said and done. Yes,
but he has not alat Ton like okay, all right,
hey how about uh, what about Jude Bellingham? What? He's
been terrific player for England. There's a lot tone he's

better player. Like I mean, I really, I really, every
time somebody plays well, I really, I'm hoping and expecting
him to tell this guy's not that good. It's not
me just to you know, how many goals? What do
you think about that goal that Messi scored? How about
that second goal to give them the lead? How many goals?
Has a lot Ton scored that way in his career.
I can't even count. I can't even count how many.

He has been pretty effusive with the praise, there's no question.
But really I thought, like the only place where he's
gotten a little bit negative but even then it was
the snark as we talked about the gone fishing kind
of things as teams exit the stage.

He'd be a little more barkley in that I'll give
you praise, but when somebody does something poor, they play badly,
I'm going to really just rip into.

he generally it's the coverage just focused on the positivity
of all of us surround really right.

And I hate to say this because you know me
something when we've talked about World Cup coverage of the
past and whether it's Fox or anywhere else, it just
is inherently negative, you know, mainly because Team USA doesn't win.
But like I really I feel like I feel like
it's too positive, Like lot tons too positive. Man, I
love positivity. It's a positivity Thursday, But like I feel
like he's lot he's been too positive over all the

two big NBA stories from today and two stories where
I get to tell a bunch of people to go

and both stories involve everybody's favorite players that have been
egressing from Los Angeles. It's a good line. That's a

Raptors trade that was going to see Toronto reacquire Kawhi
Leonard in a deal in which basically the Clippers are
getting a bunch of guys and they're starting over. Now
that trade is on hold. Why well, because the Clippers
put a statement out today saying that this trade with
the Raptors which sees the Raptors trade a couple of

dudes by you know, the brandon Ingram's first round, A
couple of pick swap goes out there. Grady Dick also
coming to Los Angeles, Grady who the Clippers say the
trade quote can only be finalized if the Raptors ownership
group assumes the risk of penalties related to Kawhi's contract
(16:30):
that could theoretically result from this ongoing investigation. Remember, Pablo
Tory finds out, hey, all of this stuff, Kawhi was
planting trees, getting a lot of money, and they circumvented
the salary cap by giving him this whatever job. Like
let's back in college. So now this is being investigated
by the NBA. This is where if I'm the Raptors,

I see the statement by the Clippers and I say, yeah,
you guys can go blank yourselves. Do you want us
to be on the hook for you guys trying to
circumvent the salary cap and pay money to Kawhi? Blank
you blank you blank you, like all of you could
go blank yourself. Now, I'm why should they be on
the You didn't get anything back, I mean, you didn't
get really you got you gotta be on the hook

about how that would work in the United States. If hey,

trade can only go through if you know, if the
cops catch me for this crime I committed, you can

you have to assume whatever happens to me. So you're

sudden we get this hiccup because you're gonna assume all
of the risk on all of this, which we all
laugh because it's another one of those examples in I

you know, a bunch of teams are kind of doing

similar things with handshake agreements and people they're gonna meet
and investments they're gonna make and whatever.

So why would we make an example here? Now, the
fact that the dude from Aspiration did go to jail
for defrauding people of nearly a quarter billion dollars is
part of it, because, I mean, for Kui Man, it's
only ten percent. I mean, it's not like the TV shows,

two guys committed a crime, they get him in separate rooms,
and you get the one guy to flip on the
other guy, right like that'd be one thing, but they

to my heart. Let's let's go to law and order

can't find the trees nor any evidence of it. There's

no paper trail. But don't worry, we got your buddy
in the other room. I'm sure he's gonna tell my
partner exactly what happened, and so okay, but whoever flips
first gets the deal. But this is like at the
episode of NYPD Blueher, It's all right, well we have
the two guys in. One guy's completely innocent and the
other guy's completely guilty. And they go, yeah, we know
the other guy's innocent. Oh no, no, no, no, it's

his fault and he's gonna do it. Ya, I'll blame,
I'll turn I'll turn evidence on him. Yeah, all right,
we'll go arrest the guy who's innocent and make him
pay for your crime. Like, I can't believe that this
is that this is a lot of guts man for
the Clippers to say this goes through. If you assume
the risk that happened something completely further as far away
from you as positive, you had absolutely zero responsibility and culpability.

on the notion that he was hoodwinked in bamboozled to

like this. When I saw this, I said, yeah, I
don't care how much I wanted Lebron James. If this

is what they told me, this is what you have
to do. I understand that there's certain ways to do
busines in the NBA, and certain guys you have to,
you know, do go a little bit further forward, sometimes
go way further than you have to. But this is
a Lebron James that Rich Paul is trying to create
interest in for Lebron outside of just one or two teams.
This is where, no matter what kind of interest I had,
I would say, you know what, we're not doing it.

Why I go Because I'm not calling leaving a bleeping
voicemail for the guy's agent. I'm not doing that. That's not.
I'm sorry, and I would tell the owner you want

As soon as I saw this, I said, there is

I'd have a tough time doing it because certain things

part to a potential winner, but clearly not the driver.
And no matter what you want to tell me about

mean they were dancing in the streets. I don't know
if those were World Cup watch parties or celebrating that
Lebron James was no longer a member of the Lakers

here in LA might have been a little bit of both.
But this whole voicemail thing just smacks of more of
a movie.

What you know it's reminded me of is that there
was a time at ESPN when there was a big
push from them to get people outside. Like every six months,
ESPN would talk to focus groups and they would change
how ESPN radio. Uh would go like that whatever, ten
people are in a room with a dial in their hands,

programmed ESPN Radio, right, doesn't matter what they did matter,
They just just people show, Hey, I'm here, what do
you want me to do? So every six months something changed.
It went from tell personal stories, yes, people love that. No,
no more personal stories. People don't like that. But you
just told me months ago, tell person no, don't tell
Perth stories. Okay uh. And then they would change. There
was a big push to say we think we you know,
(27:07):
people like hearing people outside of sports that are stars
come on and talk sports. So people who weren't athletes,
but like comedians, entertainers, actors, whoever it was. And I
don't want to I don't want to say who this
actor was because they turned out were actually did some
stuff with him. He's a pretty good dude. But like
there was this we got a a an offer saying, hey,
(27:31):
so and so has a movie coming out, and uh,
you know, we'd like to get him on ESPN to
talk about uh tell, you know, talk sports in the movie.
You know, let me know if if you'd like him.
And So I was like, yeah, great, I mean I'm
in LA. This person, he's in LA. It'll be easy
for him to calling because it's a little bit earlier. Great.
So we so we put in, said yes, we'd liked it,
we'd like to talk to him. And apparently every show
(27:53):
put in for him, cause he's you know, he's a
name to people know. And the email that came back
to everybody from this person's agent, PR person whoever it
was that was handling them just said, hey, guys, thanks
for getting back to me. Uh hey, a lot of
stuff here. Don't overwhelm me. Don't worry. Everybody will get him.
Just everybody calmed down, and I'm like, okay, you know what.
(28:15):
And I told my producer, I said, do not follow
up with this person. Do not fin she this. She
came on and she said, everybody calmed down. You asked
for who was we won? And we just said yes,
we'd like to talk about a month, and she does
everybody calm down, and I was like, you know what,
don't don't ask for them, don't. And then it came
back to the end and somebody actually said to me,
you know he's doing all these shows. How come he's
(28:35):
not on your show? I said, because I didn't get
back because I was not happy with what she wrote,
so I didn't have him on the show. I wound
up doing stuff with him later on. Uh you know
yeah NFL no, no, no, no, no, Uh you should
have She'll got that person working for it.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (28:49):
Yeah, this this email that she wrote about stuff. Basically
every call, everybody calmed down. What do you mean calm down?
Like that hit me wrong? And I just said, you know,
and I could have just said whatever, she's doing the
Hollywood thing, Yeah, yeah, just say fun. Whenever they reach
back out about it, said no, I'm not. You're not
dealing with this person again. I told my producer, you're
not dealing with this person again. Done. They can, you
can go on other shows if they want.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
They find out that all those other shows were given
a pre uh suggested list of topics and questions. Because
that's not far off because we've had laminated sheets put
in front of you and I before.
Speaker 1 (29:21):
We can and can't talk about people. There's interviews that
hit the floor that we never put on. Wait, we
can't talk about those are the only three things people
want to hear about you from the Okay, that's great.

Yeah, the off the off uh well off recorded stuff
was pretty fun. But that is like, wait, we can't
talk about no, can't go I mean.

Really, even if my team was a championship, a Lebron

these big PowerPoint presentations. Okay, I kind of get it there,
but like this, now, hey he's forty one yet. No,
I'm not even going to talk to you. Leave me
a voicemail.

But at least that's still a business. Let's talk about
it from a grandiose perspective. Other guys took the tour, right,
Carmelo Anthony went to Chicago and they did the signage

all that thing trying to pitch him this.

of July when teams start reporting and we get into football.
But today I just love this story that Yahoo made
this big announcement that they are doing college fantasy football.
So you can sign up and do college fantasy football. Now,
(31:37):
there's been some sites you could do it on if
you really wanted to be boy, that's for diehard.
Speaker 3 (31:41):
We tried when I was at Yahoo back at the
flip of the century. Yeah, and we were told, in
no uncertain terms by every layer of lawyer that has
ever lawyered up in this great state of California, don't
even start development.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
But now you can do it. Obviously it's a different
right now, so you can. And they've hired fantasy football,
college football analysts.
Speaker 2 (32:06):
And all of this.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
The one caveat to this is that they are you
are not restricted, but it's going to be just from
the power for conferences of Notre Dame. Right, you can't
get outside and get all these crazy teams to throw
the ball seventy five times a game on the West
Coast that nobody knows who the hell these kids are.
But yeah, look at that. Yeah games, but damn it,
(32:28):
look at his stats. Who's your quarterback? Who is that?
He plays for Nevada? Yep, I'm gonna kill you, you can.
The guy's got thirty six touchdowns in the first three games.
They throw the ball eighty five times a game. Man,
there's no defense out here, and it's like the winning teams,
you know, generally would then be all these players that
you never heard of, all that run whatever kind of
(32:51):
spread offense, throwing the football a bunch like those. That's everybody.
So you are limited to the Big Four, which it's
not really limited because you know, these conferences now are
huge because they're all your sixteen to twenty teams and
Notre Dame. And I'm honestly okay with that because the
one because I did college fantasy football once when I
would do the stats by hand, right, this is back
turn of the century. He oh, it's too college football.
(33:12):
I remember I had Champ Bailey on my team, right,
it's gonna be awesome. And like the first five or
six weeks I had these I had had the best
players in college football, and I was getting my ass
kicked because everybody had all these players from the whack.
It's all players from Utah and BYU, and I'm going,
what the hell? So middle of the season, I'm starting
to wave the best mind I waved whoever. I forget
(33:33):
it was, but I remember they go, you waved the
guy that's gonna win the Heisman Trophy. Yes, because he
wasn't giving me. And then I started doing okay because that,
But but I wound up getting buried, said because my
record wasn't good enough. Because the first five or six
family I got these these are the best players in
college football.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
Man.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
But yeah, but you know Champ Bailey playing both asides
of the football for Georgia. Hey, you had two touchdowns
and he had sixty yards receiving. That's great.
Speaker 2 (33:57):
Yeah. Uh.

The number one receiver on the other team is the
big is the big wide receiver for Utah our Utah State,
and he caught fourteen passes for two hundred and fourteen
yards and six touchdowns last night against Alcoa State. Oh
why I missed that on Saturday night? I missed that.
So finally, when I knew the guys I had to
go get, I did. Okay, but the first five reason,
(34:18):
like I got the best players in the world that
I'm getting killed?
Speaker 3 (34:20):
Why did jas to keep fighting for the roster deadlines? Like, well,
he wants you to consider the mac.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
Well he's okay, he's waving Eric Crouch and instead he's
picking up Okay, but I mean, but that's kind of
what it was. He's picking up Timmy Chang and he's
waving Eric Crouch, right like like that's kind of what
it was like. But I and the whole thing about
college fantasy football, you know again, it falls under my
my in the pantheon of things that are fun for
(34:48):
five minutes, Well, I'd be fun to do college for
five but then after five minutes, you go, yeah, but
is that something I really want to do? Like cause
I have a feeling that it's been a while and
his fan see crazy as we are, and every year,
you know, you know, sales comes to us, and sales
is looking out going any new ideas for fantasy football
NFL wise, Like when guilleteam came up a few years ago,
(35:10):
it was so different people started doing it. I got
to think that if there was a big market for
college foot fantasy college football, we would have had it
by now. It would have blown up in the South,
obviously in certain pockets of the way, in the Midwest
where college football is king, and in the Northeast and
you know, Big ten Country, like all of these places
where everybody would want to do it because that's what
they watch, that's what they that's what they do. But
(35:32):
the fact that this is such a big deal that
Yeaho's doing this for the first time, like, yeah, it
is the market really out there for people to do
college fantasy football.
Speaker 3 (35:39):
No, I think it'll be big, right because you're looking
at that first blush opportunity, and it may may be
short lived by week six. People might give up because
they don't want to stay up and watch Hawaii games.
I don't know, but look, it's another opportunity and forty
six points in my quarterback and the game starts at
four am, I gonna cut up and watch. You know,
(36:01):
as much as we're looking at the good, the bad,
the ugly that comes with the gaming side of things,
it's another opportunity for a full slate of Saturday plus
all the other secondary games spread across the week that
folks can dial into bet et cetera.
Speaker 1 (36:20):
So it's no surprise. So I think it'll catch on I.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
The reason it hasn't gone further is I think goes
back to just what I experienced at Yahoo all those
years ago. Just say, all right, where's the potential new
game slash, revenue slash whatever, and it's like, Nope, the
legal challenge has been too great. Now these might have
been done on.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
A smaller scale the last couple of years. I can't
say that I'm as dialed in as I once was
to the innovations in the fantasy universe outside of Guillotine,
which is one of our buddies that came up with
the concept and popularized it.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
But for this yeah, I mean, you'll do your conference.
You might do drafts, just conference specific, right, so you
got an SEC league, Big ten league, whatever Syracuse is
doing now.
Speaker 1 (37:07):
Man, it would be if I had an Angelly last
year and I lost him in the third week. Oh
come on, that's all I had. I at least knew
I had a Fantasy Star. Damn it. Exit about a

the perfect games like, really, who would ever send a
kid up there? Yeah, go up there and wreck a

it's awesome. Yeah, it all all ties together. It's a
very very strange world. I'd like to go explore it

I'm messy, Okay, I bathe. But the big conversation coming
off today right the first of the of the quarterfinal
games in France's booked a spot in the in the semifinals. Boy,
I it's really hard at this point in the tournament

to see another team beating France. I know that we
talked about them being the overwhelming favorite all the way through,
and but yes, there's a lot of soccer to happen.
A lot of things can happen. Not a lot's gonna happen.
There's only two more games for France, and of the
likely teams that are going to advance, they all have problems. Right, England,
their offense looks pretty good. Defensively talked about how shaky
(06:13):
they look. Argentina, Hey, they needed everything they could and
and and and fortuitous officiating just to beat Egypt. You know,
the other day that was a good way to say it.
The Egyptian coach would have come a little stronger. Is
Spain can't score and you won't score against them. But
they can't score. They all have problems. France has none,
(06:34):
right France, France that you're seeing, this is the most
complete team and there's a reason why we talked about
them as being the overwhelming favorite. But again remember as
games go on, things happen. You have no idea how
this is gonna play it, this is gonna play out.
But there's no weakness and Embape is simply going to
score at least a goal every game, no matter why.
He could have a brace against Spain and I wouldn't
(06:54):
be surprised Pain went out a goal in the World Cup.
But France is just overall, it's the best roster top
to bottom. They are playing the best they are. They
have peaked from the beginning of the World Cup. It's
not like they played difficult at first, and no, they've
been playing peak performance since the beginning of the World Cup.
Morocco is a terrific team, right, they blew out Canada.
Canada was was you know, it was a feel good story,
(07:16):
but they in Canada is not a bad team, but
they blew them off the pitch. Hey, Jesse marsh And
is still defending his nation, and kenyat team they're doing
a podcast yes about what Yes, and Mitch Johnson, Yeah,
they're all on the same podcast together. But you know,
this is this Morocco team that just blew Canada off
the pitch and they looked like they didn't even belong
on the same They managed five shots. The one shot
(07:38):
on goal came very late in the game, although they
started getting possession towards the end. I'm like, all it
takes is one of these set pieces and all of
a sudden we got a little bit of chaos. It
never came, of course, but you know, you look at
just the one sided nature of it twenty two to five.
But defensively they stood strong.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
I mean, because you thought it was gonna get out
of or it's pretty fast the way France started their attack.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Yeah, but watching this game and seeing how it unfolds.
You see the speed of France and the speed of Imbappe,
and just forget Morocco looked like a team that you
forget this is a top ten team in the world.
They looked like they looked like the United States playing Belgium,
where it's like, okay, we're just wow, we just have problems.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
Man.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
That's what France is able to do to a top
ten team overall in the World Cup. Like I go,
it's it'll be great theater. Whatever the matchup's gonna wind
up being. France beats spaint. France and England insane, France
and Argentina insane, and in the end, France will win
both of those games, probably to nothing. Like that's how
good they're playing.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
But you watch the offense right and obviously imbape is
gonna be the record setter in so many ways, tied
for the Golden Boot, all those things. But you got
Dimballe who's been fantastic, and we were passing around the
note Earliers Laton with the over over praise, the over
the top on Michael Michael Olise who's got five assists. Yeah,

and it is just like watching a point guard play
in the NBA. Well, he said he was like the
Tom Brady of he gave him the Tom Brady. I
took it back to the piece of the point guard.
He's the Tom Brady. Okay, two different sports, not but
I get what you're saying is lot on. Okay, I
know what you're saying. But but just that idea of
how he sees, anticipates, and you just go into the
space because the ball is going to be waiting. It's
(09:20):
and it's very much the Tom. Look, he's got to
give his teammate Tom Brady a little bit of love. Yeah,
to where if you're the running back out of the backfield,
wide receiver, tight end, run your route, it's gonna hit
you in the face. So I mean, it's perfect. And
this is the way this offense runs. And you saw
what they were able to do in a dominant form today.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
Now I do have to give you a hot take
as we're going on, cause you men name Jets to
the super Come on, he did that the last couple. No,
three years ago, Man, three years ago, Nix and five
Nixon five, Just Nix and five. Uh, I'm a little
disappointed in slots. Why is that much? Okay? Now, because

he hasn't beaten up right now and LEXI, let's go
right now, right now. No, I'm a little I'm a
little disappointed a lot of time because quite really, because
quite honestly, I didn't expect him to give this much
credit to teams playing well or individual players playing well

in the World Cup, because I always expected to say, hey,
what do you think of him? Bape's a lot of
time he is good, he is no oh but but wow,
but look at the record he has goal I mean,
he's been only a couple of World Cups. He's gonna
finish with thirty five goals when it's all said and done. Yes,
but he has not alat Ton like okay, all right,
hey how about uh, what about Jude Bellingham? What? He's
been terrific player for England. There's a lot tone he's
(10:46):
better player. Like I mean, I really, I really, every
time somebody plays well, I really, I'm hoping and expecting
him to tell this guy's not that good. It's not
me just to you know, how many goals? What do
you think about that goal that Messi scored? How about
that second goal to give them the lead? How many goals?
Has a lot Ton scored that way in his career.
I can't even count. I can't even count how many.

He has been pretty effusive with the praise, there's no question.
But really I thought, like the only place where he's
gotten a little bit negative but even then it was
the snark as we talked about the gone fishing kind
of things as teams exit the stage.

But I thought it would go a little more barkley.
He'd be a little more barkley in that I'll give
you praise, but when somebody does something poor, they play badly,
I'm going to really just rip into.

Oh no, he's gotten after that a little bit, but
he generally it's the coverage just focused on the positivity
of all of us surround really right.

And I hate to say this because you know me
something when we've talked about World Cup coverage of the
past and whether it's Fox or anywhere else, it just
is inherently negative, you know, mainly because Team USA doesn't win.
But like I really I feel like I feel like
it's too positive, Like lot tons too positive. Man, I
love positivity. It's a positivity Thursday, But like I feel
like he's lot he's been too positive over all the

world You want to know, I can't agree with you. Yes,

Leonard in a deal in which basically the Clippers are
getting a bunch of guys and they're starting over. Now
that trade is on hold. Why well, because the Clippers
put a statement out today saying that this trade with
the Raptors which sees the Raptors trade a couple of

dudes by you know, the brandon Ingram's first round, A
couple of pick swap goes out there. Grady Dick also
coming to Los Angeles, Grady who the Clippers say the
trade quote can only be finalized if the Raptors ownership
group assumes the risk of penalties related to Kawhi's contract

that could theoretically result from this ongoing investigation. Remember, Pablo
Tory finds out, hey, all of this stuff, Kawhi was
planting trees, getting a lot of money, and they circumvented
the salary cap by giving him this whatever job. Like
let's back in college. So now this is being investigated
by the NBA. This is where if I'm the Raptors,

I see the statement by the Clippers and I say, yeah,
you guys can go blank yourselves. Do you want us
to be on the hook for you guys trying to
circumvent the salary cap and pay money to Kawhi? Blank

the other guy's innocent. Oh no, no, no, no, it's

his fault and he's gonna do it. Ya, I'll blame,
I'll turn I'll turn evidence on him. Yeah, all right,
we'll go arrest the guy who's innocent and make him
pay for your crime. Like, I can't believe that this
is that this is a lot of guts man for
the Clippers to say this goes through. If you assume
the risk that happened something completely further as far away
from you as positive, you had absolutely zero responsibility and culpability.

was a time at ESPN when there was a big
push from them to get people outside. Like every six months,
ESPN would talk to focus groups and they would change

programmed ESPN Radio, right, doesn't matter what they did matter,
They just just people show, Hey, I'm here, what do
you want me to do? So every six months something changed.
It went from tell personal stories, yes, people love that. No,
no more personal stories. People don't like that. But you
just told me months ago, tell person no, don't tell
Perth stories. Okay uh. And then they would change. There
was a big push to say we think we you know,

people like hearing people outside of sports that are stars
come on and talk sports. So people who weren't athletes,
but like comedians, entertainers, actors, whoever it was. And I
don't want to I don't want to say who this
actor was because they turned out were actually did some
stuff with him. He's a pretty good dude. But like
there was this we got a a an offer saying, hey,

so and so has a movie coming out, and uh,
you know, we'd like to get him on ESPN to
talk about uh tell, you know, talk sports in the movie.
You know, let me know if if you'd like him.
And So I was like, yeah, great, I mean I'm
in LA. This person, he's in LA. It'll be easy
for him to calling because it's a little bit earlier. Great.
So we so we put in, said yes, we'd liked it,
we'd like to talk to him. And apparently every show
(27:53):
put in for him, cause he's you know, he's a
name to people know. And the email that came back
to everybody from this person's agent, PR person whoever it
was that was handling them just said, hey, guys, thanks
for getting back to me. Uh hey, a lot of
stuff here. Don't overwhelm me. Don't worry. Everybody will get him.
Just everybody calmed down, and I'm like, okay, you know what.
(28:15):
And I told my producer, I said, do not follow
up with this person. Do not fin she this. She
came on and she said, everybody calmed down. You asked
for who was we won? And we just said yes,
we'd like to talk about a month, and she does
everybody calm down, and I was like, you know what,
don't don't ask for them, don't. And then it came
back to the end and somebody actually said to me,
you know he's doing all these shows. How come he's
(28:35):
not on your show? I said, because I didn't get
back because I was not happy with what she wrote,
so I didn't have him on the show. I wound
up doing stuff with him later on. Uh you know
yeah NFL no, no, no, no, no, Uh you should
have She'll got that person working for it.

Yeah, this this email that she wrote about stuff. Basically
every call, everybody calmed down. What do you mean calm down?
Like that hit me wrong? And I just said, you know,
and I could have just said whatever, she's doing the
Hollywood thing, Yeah, yeah, just say fun. Whenever they reach
back out about it, said no, I'm not. You're not
dealing with this person again. I told my producer, you're
not dealing with this person again. Done. They can, you
can go on other shows if they want.

They find out that all those other shows were given
a pre uh suggested list of topics and questions. Because
that's not far off because we've had laminated sheets put
in front of you and I before.

We can and can't talk about people. There's interviews that
hit the floor that we never put on. Wait, we

want to hear about you from the Okay, that's great.

this big announcement that they are doing college fantasy football.

We tried when I was at Yahoo back at the
flip of the century. Yeah, and we were told, in
no uncertain terms by every layer of lawyer that has
ever lawyered up in this great state of California, don't
even start development.

But now you can do it. Obviously it's a different
right now, so you can. And they've hired fantasy football,
college football analysts.

And all of this.

The one caveat to this is that they are you
are not restricted, but it's going to be just from
the power for conferences of Notre Dame. Right, you can't
get outside and get all these crazy teams to throw
the ball seventy five times a game on the West
Coast that nobody knows who the hell these kids are.
But yeah, look at that. Yeah games, but damn it,

look at his stats. Who's your quarterback? Who is that?
He plays for Nevada? Yep, I'm gonna kill you, you can.
The guy's got thirty six touchdowns in the first three games.
They throw the ball eighty five times a game. Man,
there's no defense out here, and it's like the winning teams,
you know, generally would then be all these players that
you never heard of, all that run whatever kind of

spread offense, throwing the football a bunch like those. That's everybody.
So you are limited to the Big Four, which it's
not really limited because you know, these conferences now are
huge because they're all your sixteen to twenty teams and
Notre Dame. And I'm honestly okay with that because the
one because I did college fantasy football once when I
would do the stats by hand, right, this is back
turn of the century. He oh, it's too college football.

I remember I had Champ Bailey on my team, right,
it's gonna be awesome. And like the first five or
six weeks I had these I had had the best
players in college football, and I was getting my ass
kicked because everybody had all these players from the whack.
It's all players from Utah and BYU, and I'm going,
what the hell? So middle of the season, I'm starting
to wave the best mind I waved whoever. I forget
(33:33):
it was, but I remember they go, you waved the
guy that's gonna win the Heisman Trophy. Yes, because he
wasn't giving me. And then I started doing okay because that,
But but I wound up getting buried, said because my
record wasn't good enough. Because the first five or six
family I got these these are the best players in
college football.

But yeah, but you know Champ Bailey playing both asides
of the football for Georgia. Hey, you had two touchdowns
and he had sixty yards receiving. That's great.

The number one receiver on the other team is the
big is the big wide receiver for Utah our Utah State,
and he caught fourteen passes for two hundred and fourteen
yards and six touchdowns last night against Alcoa State. Oh

So finally, when I knew the guys I had to
go get, I did. Okay, but the first five reason,

like I got the best players in the world that
I'm getting killed?

Why did jas to keep fighting for the roster deadlines? Like, well,
he wants you to consider the mac.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
Well he's okay, he's waving Eric Crouch and instead he's
picking up Okay, but I mean, but that's kind of
what it was. He's picking up Timmy Chang and he's
waving Eric Crouch, right like like that's kind of what
it was like. But I and the whole thing about
college fantasy football, you know again, it falls under my
my in the pantheon of things that are fun for

five minutes, Well, I'd be fun to do college for
five but then after five minutes, you go, yeah, but
is that something I really want to do? Like cause
I have a feeling that it's been a while and
his fan see crazy as we are, and every year,
you know, you know, sales comes to us, and sales
is looking out going any new ideas for fantasy football
NFL wise, Like when guilleteam came up a few years ago,
(35:10):
it was so different people started doing it. I got
to think that if there was a big market for
college foot fantasy college football, we would have had it
by now. It would have blown up in the South,
obviously in certain pockets of the way, in the Midwest
where college football is king, and in the Northeast and
you know, Big ten Country, like all of these places
where everybody would want to do it because that's what
they watch, that's what they that's what they do. But
(35:32):
the fact that this is such a big deal that
Yeaho's doing this for the first time, like, yeah, it
is the market really out there for people to do
college fantasy football.
Speaker 3 (35:39):
No, I think it'll be big, right because you're looking
at that first blush opportunity, and it may may be
short lived by week six. People might give up because
they don't want to stay up and watch Hawaii games.
I don't know, but look, it's another opportunity and forty
six points in my quarterback and the game starts at
four am, I gonna cut up and watch. You know,
(36:01):
as much as we're looking at the good, the bad,
the ugly that comes with the gaming side of things,
it's another opportunity for a full slate of Saturday plus
all the other secondary games spread across the week that
folks can dial into bet et cetera.

So it's no surprise. So I think it'll catch on I.

The reason it hasn't gone further is I think goes
back to just what I experienced at Yahoo all those
years ago. Just say, all right, where's the potential new
game slash, revenue slash whatever, and it's like, Nope, the
legal challenge has been too great. Now these might have
been done on.

A smaller scale the last couple of years. I can't
say that I'm as dialed in as I once was
