(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Hello, Welcome inside our
two of The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmen. Things getting interesting right now in Chevez Ravine.
The Dodgers have gone to Blake Trin and here in
the top of the seventh inning to preserve the one
one tie Dodgers and Cardinals. Top of the seventh inning,

(00:47):
Cardinals have three hits, Dodgers have four hits. It wasn't
a great night for Max Scherzer, but he goes four
and the third he only gives up the one run
that scored via while pitch in the first inning, Adam
Waynewright is able to go just over five and pitches
not been a lot of offense tonight. The Cardinals found
a way to get uh into a big situation, putting

(01:09):
runners at first and second in the fifth inning with
one out, sure as their departs, Joe Kelly comes in
shuts the door. It was a great effort by Kelly. Meanwhile,
earlier in the game, Waynewright gets out of a bas
is loaded, one out, full count situation against Trey Turner,
saws off his bat and gets turned to hit a
groundball to a spot on the field where you can
double him up, which you talk about living right. That

(01:32):
was the Cardinals, right, And not that Tray Turner doesn't
in the double plays, because he does. But the guy
is the fastest player in the league. You really gotta
do something. And he gets a curveball on three and
two and he lines it up the middle, but it
breaks his bat and it's able to be uh fielded
right at the point where you can step on second
and throw to first, and the Dodgers could have had

(01:52):
a big inning there and instead it ends one one.
That was the biggest moment of the game by far. Uh.
This is where we are right now, one a piece
in the top of the seven. Well, you like chaos.
You love the fact that both starting pitchers, even though
they knew they were done, neither wanted to give an inch,
and you saw the fact that Dave Roberts had to
take the ball out of Scherzer's glove as he shook

(02:14):
his hand. Uh, and you know it looked salty. And
then Waynewright was none too pleased when he exited after
all of the social media second guessing about him batting
for himself. Uh, last time around. So all of it
comes down to u three inning battle at this point,
which is all all you could ever want in a
one game playoff. Dodger fans wanted attend one laugher sorry folks,

(02:38):
Uh not showing up at least early on. Who knows
the damn can always break, that's the beauty of these games.
But all the stars in attendance. Uh, there's Mary Hard
again already mentioned Lou Adler, that's the guy you always
see a Laker games and stuff. Uh, we'll see if
we can pick anybody else out there. We know Marlin's
man not able to travel right now. Uh, he's got

(03:00):
some health stuff he's dealing with. But we'll be ready
for the World Series if uh if and when it
gets here to Dodger Stadium. So we know that uh
in full effect. But yeah, it's it's one of those
games as much as at least on the Max Scherzer
side of it, it didn't look pretty in the end,
bullpen holding up, bullpen getting their job done. Uh, and

(03:21):
bringing us to the seventh where we now uh, unbated
breath with every pitch man. It's it's just that intensity
ratcheting it up to a whole other level now. The
only thing that brings the intensity down was the video
earlier in the game of whoever it was dressed up
in a giant head behind home played at the game,
and it looked like Mr met on vacation, uh, scouting

(03:44):
the teams for a GM. Like maybe that's why I'm
scouting the Dodgers and the Cardinals for potential. Looked like
he lost some weight, a smaller head, so like based
on stress, maybe he wasn't eating well and kind of
anxiety had kind of taken over. But he's got He
had the print shirt on, the vacation shirt, didn't have
his METS hat on, so I'm kind of going incognito.
It was kind of fun seeing it looked like this

(04:06):
is Mr Mett Hay. I'm just I'm just trying to
enjoy the game, right, I'm just here just you know,
I look, I'm with my kids. I don't want to
do interviews or anything else. Just trying to enjoy the game.
Might leave me alone. I'm here, I'm not wearing my hat.
If I had my head on, that means I'm here
an official capacity. I can do interviews and all kinds
of But no hat, that means I'm not really here. Well,
I just think in in the end, if he'd added

(04:27):
a little curly hue on the top of his head
or a yellow shirt, he would have been Chuck Brown.
So he would have been left alone for the baseball acumen.
But he might have been asked why he kept falling
for Lucy's tricks all those years. Yeah, you think at
some point Charlie Brown would know Lucy's just gonna pull
the football out. No, no, he's he's a dope. Although
we did get some good news, uh in that those

(04:48):
are gonna be aired on PBS, those uh holiday classics
this year because they weren't on TV a year ago.
A bunch of rights kind of discussions, and you really
buried the lead today. I mean, they figured out who
a grew of uh you know, super Sluice figured out
who the Zodiac Killer was I really thought you were
gonna lead with that today, and I thought we already knew.
I thought they already figured out like three years ago.

(05:09):
It's like then they figured it out again, Like I
thought that happened already. Well, they cold case Squad claims
it now, but I really did I thought they I
thought they figured that out. I thought they caught the
guy like like three years ago, and it was like
they caught him with d n A. It was kind
of I was, It's it's a story that I admit
was confusing to me a little bit. Okay, well the
other way, Uh, it's one of those I'm trying to

(05:30):
get my kids to go do a c S I
kind of instead of an escape room, they got c
S I things. Uh they think. They kind of laughed
at me, and then I said, look, I know it's
not catching the Zodiac Killer guys, but which they both understood,
like like that was a good joke. Dad. I saw
the Jill in Hall movie. Yes, yes, I I remember seeing,

(05:52):
uh the Jason Smith Joe with Mike carbon More on
Dodges in the Cardinals as it unfolds right now, Dodgers
have Cardinals rather have a runner at second two outs,
Arnaudo batting in at the top of the seventh inning. So,
as I mentioned a few minutes ago, the quarterback change
we all thought was going to come, but then thought
maybe maybe not. Justin Fields is now the Bear starting

(06:14):
quarterback for this week and going forward, Bears head coach
Matt Naggy making the announcement earlier today. The last couple
of weeks, we've had some some good conversations internally. It's
led to making a decision to move with Justin as
a starter. We've grown with him. We're proud of Justin.
He's been a great teammate from the very beginning. I
think what needs to be understood is that had a

(06:36):
plan in the process that we had going into this,
and then when Andy unfortunately got hurt with his with
his knee, that sped the process up. Oh just stop,
just shut up, just stop, just stop stop stop. This
is how it should have been all along. Andy Dalton
starts the season, he plays a couple of games, he
gets hurt. Justin Fields comes in. He plays shaky his

(06:57):
first week, much much better a second week, and he
gets the job. Matt Naggie had to make it so hard.
Why do you have to make it so hard. This
is exactly how it should I said. You should have
given him the job from the beginning, got him ready
in the beginning of the scene. This is why you
get your quarterback ready when you draft. If you draft
your quarterback of the future, you get him ready the
day after the draft, not wait and give him limited

(07:19):
reps in camp and say, oh, this other guy is
our quarterback, because here you are three weeks or four
weeks into the season and guess what, now he's your guy.
Now you look back and go, boy, wish i'd give
him all those reps in the summer in the spring,
maybe be a different place right now, maybe things would
be different for our team. But everybody learns that lesson,
and no matter what I say, I can't convince people
of it. When you draft that guy in the first round,

(07:41):
you get him ready all summer long into the fall,
and you fail forward faster, Thank you, Randy Mueller. And
that's what the Bears needed to do. But instead, no,
we're gonna wait, You're gonna give all these reps to Dalton.
We're gonna let Justin Field get his feet wet, and now,
oh well, we need to move the game plan around
around just in fields. We've gotta do so many things. Now, Oh,

(08:02):
I hope he's ready. Now we gotta get him more reps. Yeah,
this is why you do that in the beginning, because
here's where we are, and the calendar has just turned
to October, and now the Bears have their guy. But
you know what, do I know, my carm and I'm
only a guy that said this from the beginning and
said that this is how it's gonna go, and all
these great plans in the in the spring of we
have our quarterback for the year, and maybe our our
our first round guy plays, or maybe he doesn't. But

(08:24):
we know that's always a load of crap because when
the footballs fly for real, that first round quarterback gets
in there sooner rather than later. It happens every year,
and it's like every NFL front office executive it gets
amnesia at the end of the year and they said, well,
we gotta have our veteran and then we have to go.
We had then we'll we'll draft our our quarterback of
the future and we'll bring him along really slow, and

(08:46):
then we'll throw him in because we have to in
the beginning of October and he's not ready. Every team
does that, guy. I can at least say for the
Jets on the Jaguars, two of the biggest blank shows
in the NFL, they got it right. Hey, you got
we drafted our quarterbacks one two. They're gonna be our guys.
We're putting them in the lineup and they're failing forward faster.
They did it the right way. But no matter what happens,

(09:07):
no matter how many times we see it, teams are
doomed to continue on to do this over and over
and over again. I'm continuing to say, I don't like it.
I don't You had a couple of scripted players earlier
that accounted for most of Justin Fields big plays against
the Detroit Lions the past to Darnell Mooney, that was
in the script. Good job, Bill Laser. Once you got
past the script, not so much. Uh. David Montgomery in

(09:31):
the run game with twenty three carries, he's now hurt
up to Damian Williams and Herbert and whoever else will
carry the ball, including Justin Fields three carries uh nine
yards against the Lions. For those that are expecting their
sixty yards a week, scrambling for fields like Matt Naggi
even two days ago said that Andy Dalton was still

(09:51):
going to be the guy, and now he practices fully today.
Because that's the that's the most unreported part of this
was the fact that Dalton did pry just fully today,
and all of a sudden, there's Naggie pushing this whole
other narrative, which is a bunch of crap, because, as
I've said all along, and I will fly, it flies
in the face of what you say, Uh is you
knew the Jets and the Jaguars were. You know, we're

(10:14):
on the radio, so I can't say what they really were.
But blank shows you know the password is or whatever
fill in the blank as it were, which means when
you draft your guy, yeah, you're building from scratch, saying
it's time and we'll take our lumps, and he will
take his lumps under center. Then you have both the

(10:34):
Bears and the forty niners, two teams expecting to compete,
and the Bears not not that they were going to
go and run away and hide in the division, or
or certainly, uh, you know that the Packers were going
to disappear suddenly, but you thought you'd be competitive you've
been to the playoffs two of the last three years. Oh,
by the way, you did that with Mitchell Robinski, who

(10:55):
you dumped in the trash as fast as you could. Uh.
And even when we saw that attempt to replace him
with Nick Foles, that was an abject failure at every turn. Uh,
nobody cared because it was still beat up Mitchell Robinsky
until all of a sudden it became in vogue to
go after Matt Nagge many powerful voices in our industry

(11:17):
on radio and television, So I'm on both. Uh where
when and and declared Matt Naggy some sort of genius.
And I wondered if they'd seen any game tape along
the way to to figure that out, because you know,
if he was such a genius, that meant that Mitchell
Robinsky was a far better quarterback than anybody gave him
credit for. Oh wait, maybe he was. And Andy Dalton

(11:39):
is a pretty good career quarterback. Is he a world
beat or no? But you brought him in to steerership
with a decent defense, a decent running game, and the
opportunity to try to run back to the plus which
meant bringing in justin fields after you'd already committed to Dalton,
and obviously all the dopiness of hey he's our QB
one and all the memes and everything, you know, he's

(11:59):
your guy. Ory not if you keep telling me is
eventually that means you're kicking him to the curb. And
that's exactly what happened today. Wherever that order came from
Ryan Pace, from management, or the ground swell of people
complaining in the local media's and fish wraps, and when
Matt Naggie went to get a cup of coffee, that
suddenly he changes his mind, just like that. So I'm

(12:22):
not in full agreement with the move. I think there's
still a lot of work to be done. To your point, yes,
if you would have gone to him from day one,
maybe he'd be that much further along, maybe wishing, wanting, hoping.
But you brought in Matt Andy Dalton to be the guy,
and then all of a sudden, Justin Fields was there
for you, and so you decided that's the way to go.
You're not the Jets, you're not the Jaguars. You're a

(12:43):
team that's actually competitive. Now, I'll tell you exactly why
he made the move. This is exactly why after just
two days ago, and he's our guy. The one thing
Matt Naggie was able to do right here was read
the room. And that's the most important thing you can
do as a leader. When you want to leave, you
have to be able to read the room. Because what
Matt Naggi has found out over the course of the

(13:04):
past few days is that his executive decision making, the
power he has in the Bears organization is down near zero,
just like Urban Meyer is finding I got I got
no power in the Jacksonville After all, what's going on
in that video that got out. I shouldn't have gone
to that bar. Oh, I got no power. The same
thing as going on from Matt Naggie, right, because the
one thing that he's always been able to try to

(13:26):
do is say, I'm going with Andy Dalton because this
is the way I'm going to keep my job. If
I tell you and he's our guy and he plays well,
that's the only way I'm gonna stay because it's gonna
be somebody else coaching Justin Fields next year. Right, Justin
Fields was drafted for the next guy to come in.
So if I stick with Dalton, he's he's the only
way I can stay. Hey, Andy Dalton was good. Now

(13:47):
we'll move on and I can sneak back in the
playoffs again. I'll get another year with Justin Fields. So
I can extend this to two years. If I do
this year with Andy Dalton and then we somehow find
a way to go nine and eight and get in
the layoffs. Things are still looking good. But we're gonna
turn the page to Justin Fields. I'll get two years
instead of one. Where if I go to Justin Fields
and we stink, I'm getting fired and somebody else is

(14:09):
coming into coach Justin Fields. Right, so he gets that
he can read the room. But the reason he went
to Justin Fields is that he knows if he went
back to Andy Dalton after last week, he'd get fired.
In a week he would be he would be out. Look.
You mentioned Bill Laser, who called a pretty good game
for the for the Bears on Sunday. Right. You had
a lot of play action, You ran the football a lot.

(14:30):
It was a game plan that at least looked like, Hey,
we want to put this team in a position to
where Justin Fields is skill set can be best used,
not just hey, we're gonna throw him in like we
did a week ago. When Matt Nagy was calling the
place right, Bill Laser calls the plays and hey, look
what happens. Hey, look at this. Hey, we put some
points on the board. We look good in the very
beginning of the game, we win a game, things look good.

(14:52):
Matt Naggi has no cashet anymore, and he knows if
he's still after this game went back to Andy Dalton,
he'd get hired and Bill Lazer would take over and
it would be his offense and that so he knew
how to read the room and say, all right, I
get it now, I really can't go back to Andy Dalton. Now,
I just got to hope that Justin Fields is great
right away and we win and we get to the

(15:12):
playoffs and I get another year this way. So at
least I give him credit for that. But that's the
only reason he made that move, because you know, if
he after winning last week and all right, just right,
Justin Fields is our guy, you still go back to
Andy Dalton. Yeah you're getting fired. Yeah, I I still
and everything I've heard about Justin Fields, everything I've seen,
uh in terms of work ethic and and want to write.

(15:34):
He told his parents to beat it when they came
in for a victory dinner that he wanted to watch
film with his dog. That's great, all good things on
the fields. I don't know that I saw enough to
suddenly you know, I'm saying on Monday, Uh, dudes are
starter when he's healthy, and then Wednesday he's healthy that
I mention him. Yeah, that that's they They literally will

(15:56):
fire me just because as oppoched to what actually transpired
on thee because I still think there's he's gonna take
his lumps and I think your short term win options
would have been better. I think he gets feasted upon
by that Oakland now Las Vegas defensive line on Sunday,

It just snuck it right in there. I'm saying a
tight shirt. You know. There there is very few new
things on the music scene today, right, but I there
is a market. There is a market for remixed songs
with fun drops in them. Like there's a market like

(17:24):
if you were able to find us all you dropped
that stuff in. There's a big market for that. People
would pay a lot of money for those mixes. Not
just hey I got the marshmallow mix of this. This
song is like a leather that dude, you you'd make
so much money. Man, People say, I gotta have the tighter.
It's like, who's the guy that has the sneakers? He
puts out like twenty pairs of sneakers and they're like,
uh stuff you no, no, no entourage right where Turtle

(17:47):
was wanted to get the pace, waited online to get
the pair of sneakers. That's what. Yes, it's big, it's
big baller bread. Yeah, it's a big baller bread. Uh No,
you can make a lot of money at that tie ship.
I'm serious, you can do that. There'll be a big
market for that. I'll make a song and playing for us.
How it sounds all right? Very good? See there you go. Say, look,

(18:08):
I've started you on your new career path already. You're welcome.
Three percent. That's all three okay, alright, we we got
a deal at two point five. I'm cool with that
negotiator too. I have a talent for it. That's that's
exactly exactly. It's what it is. Eight seven, seven ninety

(18:30):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmen.
Right now St. Louis and the Dodgers. One one in
the top for the Dodgers. Uh, the only run for
l A and then courtesy Eastern turner home run. St.
Louis gets a run on a wild pitch in the
first inning and that's been it. Uh Country Joe West
behind the plate waiting to see his impact of this

(18:53):
game when when it gets felt at the most inopportune
time for one of these two teams. I can't wait,
Mike Carmen, you know Joe West to say, look, this
is last year and Joe West is retiring. This is it.
He's got to go out in a blaze of glory. Man,
you gotta give me something really really huge that really
pisces off one of these teams, but not putting up
the normal here's the box of the strike zone. So

(19:14):
it's did not embarrass him tonight. So we have that
going trending sends what the second pitch of the game
even maybe no, there he is as the game began,
the wild pitch, I know. Uh my brother texted me
from Chicago listening to the Cardinals broadcast. John Rooney, former
White Sox announcer, with the huge call of it, uh

(19:35):
said he I hadn't heard him that excited since uh
the early days of black Jack mcdowelland such. Uh So
the excitement there, well, he just wanted to get black
Jack McDowell in. But as we watched this game, now
they're in a review, uh there. There have been some
curiosities in terms of strike zone calls. It's like, all right,
I know it's supposed to be letters dense, but we

(19:56):
don't call that unless sometimes we do so. So so
for Joe s like you know what, what is it?
What was the Billy Crystal line in Forget Paris? And
this is my farewell game? Well, let me be the
first to say farewell. Okay, all right, twitter At, how

(20:17):
about a frescup? Mike gets swollen down the Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Uh, there's a
big controversy right now that just went on on the field,
and it looks like the Cardinals are going to escape here.
They have a runner at first with one out in
the top of the eighth inning. Molina just flew out
to left field. However, here's where things get a little weird.

(20:39):
And I didn't see anything on the replay that told
me that second base was touched. Okay, Carlson singles to
left to open the inning, Molina flies out, Carlson gets
all the way to second base, goes past second base,
goes back to first, and it's really impossible to see
if he touched second base on way back. I don't

(21:01):
know that he did, but I couldn't see one replay
of what they've seen so far. And again, you know,
you and I are doing the show together. I'm trying
to talk and at the same time, I didn't see
one replay. How do you not have one replay that says,
oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah he touched second base. He
didn't touch second base. I'll tell you what, that's the
number one topic that will be trending globally on Twitter

(21:23):
because I've got like fifteen straight people going so there's
not really an angle to prove this, and a couple
of folks that just fire back with the old, well
he touch it or not he whatever, he moved on.
It's like, no, no, no, that's remember the neighborhood play
when they started to fight about that a little more
that they wanted a little better enforcement of that same

(21:44):
kind of thing. And you've got cameras all over the place.
You don't have a few more it's going on TVs.
I mean, I mean, no idea how there wasn't a
good camera angle on that. I mean, how do you
not have it? Really? I don't, I don't get it.
I feel like I just need to quote gas on here.
I'm sorry, but the Dodgers may have gotten out of it.

(22:06):
You've got Chris Taylor with a great diving catch just
seconds ago for the second out of the inning, and
now the Dodgers are going to the bullpen. Maybe training
his pitch a little bit too much. He had a
ballhood on the button right there. But a great diving
catch by Taylor who is coming the game. Uh and
in left field to two outs. Now, top of the
eighth inning. The Cardinals are still batting and there is

(22:29):
a pitching change. I believe Sandy Kofax is coming into
trying to close the eighth inning for the Dodgers. Well,
so the what the sixteen player coming into the game. Now, yeah,
that's a lot. You're gonna get a lot. You're gonna
get a lot of players. Everybody. Everybody's available, everybody's available.
Eric Ganja is warming up in the bullpen. Nicely done.

(22:50):
I think he can. I bet you could still throw
a little bit like he didn't. He pitch in the
uh the World Baseball Classic a couple of years ago. GYA,
well for Canada. He's like forty seven years old. He
was still throwing babies. A yeah, but there there's some questions. Yeah,
seen World Baseball Classic. He was forty one years old.

(23:11):
But you know he's a guy. That's one of those
you get a little angsty about, right and start wringing
your hands. When you start talking about performance, his performance,
He's hit his performance. But uh so coming up in
ninety seconds, we have a basketball sto. I'm gonna throw
open the biggest basketball question and the answer is going

(23:32):
to give you. I wouldn't say pause may make your
palm sweat a little bit, but yeah, that's what it's
gonna be. But first, be sure to catch live editions
of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at

(24:20):
Speaking of Kyrie Irving and the Nets, Kevin Durant addressed
Kyrie Irving situation, which is right now, they have no
idea if the Nets are gonna have him whenever they're
gonna have him, because he's not vaccinated, doesn't have plans
to get the COVID vaccine. He won't be able to
play in home games in New York. The team has said,
we're not going to practice in New Jersey. Uh And

(24:40):
if he's gonna be a part time player, we have
to figure out if we even want that. You can
see the nets are drawing a line in the sand
and they are getting ready to be without Kyrie Irving,
both for COVID and then at some point they're going
to cut ties with him a right. Kevin Durant was
asked about the situation with Kyrie Irving today k D
who said, I'm going to Brooklyn with him and this

(25:05):
is gonna be great. And Kyrie said, I'm going to
Brooklyn with him and it's gonna be great. And Katie
was asked today, what do you think about Kyrie Irving
and he said, quote, I'm envisioning Kyrie being a part
of our team. Maybe I'm just naive, maybe, but that's
just how I feel. But I think everybody here has
that confidence in themselves and our group that if we

(25:26):
keep building, we can do something special. So this is
not he's gonna be here. I'm gonna go talk to him,
I'm gonna make sure this is I'm envisioning Kyrie being
part of our team. And for a guy that decided
I'm gonna cast my lot with Kyrie to go to Brooklyn,
this is a far cry from we're gonna all do
this together. This is maybe he's here. I hope he's here.

(25:50):
If he's not, we're moving on. At this point, I
will ask you how long until the Nets cut ties
with Kyrie Irving? How long will the US go on
before the Nets say, you know what, we're moving on.
Whether it's a buyout, or it's a trade, or it's
something else that allows him to resume his basketball career. List,
I don't have to worry about him. We're not gonna
We're not gonna trade you to Golden State, which would

(26:12):
be pretty Funnyeah, we'll trade you to Golden States. You
can't play there either. How long I mean, what is it?
A week, a month, two months, the beginning of the year.
If kyr Iring doesn't get vaccinated, he's not just gonna
sit there. He's not gonna sit there. He's not gonna
want to not get paid, He's not gonna want to
He's not gonna want to be that guy that says,
I'm just gonna sit here until something is no something's

(26:32):
going to happen, and the Nets are going to move on.
Kevin Durant saying, I'm envisioning him being a part of
what we do, not him, not not me. Him and
James don't need head coaches because that's when he was
like a couple of years ago. Oh, one of us
can be the head coach. We don't need a head
coach now. It's Kyrie is a part of the team
when he comes back. Yeah, k D is ready to

(26:53):
move on. The Nets are ready to move on. How
much longer will it be Opening night? Will it be
the end of the year, well, the beginning of two,
but it's it's coming. Like I feel the same way
about that, and I felt about urban Meyer that the
end is coming. It's just a matter of when. And
I still say probably a month from now. And the
Jags are O and eight and things are awful. It's
we can't give this season away. We're gonna move on

(27:15):
and get him out because he's got to figure out
his own life path and we have to move on.
So we'll figure out a way to have a decision
made where it looks mutual, the same thing I feel
for the nets? What what? How are they going to
move on? The nets seem like and everything of their
body language is we are ready to move on. We're
not gonna do anything crazy to get him and keep
him on the team. So once that happens, how much

(27:39):
long can it really be? Right? I mean, if I
gave you the over under of if Kyrie is not vaccinated,
and I gave you the over under of January one,
would you take the over or the under that when
when Kyrie Irving is no longer a Brooklyn Net? Alright,
two things I'll want. I'll take the over there, But
I'll get back to that in a second. With urban Meyer,
you're skillfully set it up that Uh, no matter when

(28:01):
he gets fired or leads, you'll you can say you
were right, because eventually everybody gets fired, you get hired
to get fired. I'm not gonna say that. Like, if
it happens in seven years and he wins three Super Bowls,
you'll you'll, you'll tell me about the Super Bowls and
then you'll conveniently forget about the calling for his head
every night for several weeks. See, you've played this skillfully,

(28:25):
uh and really well. As for Kyrie Irving, they're not
playing meaningful basketball until well after January one. So if
he's not around, all the better. As long as he's
up on his conditioning. Uh, he can step back in
at any point. And to some degree, I think you
start playing the the wishing, wanting, hoping of public policy
that you won't necessarily have it required by time it

(28:48):
comes the playoffs. Not saying it's a right way to
approach things, but certainly a guy of kyrie skill set
and what he means to your championship aspirations, I don't
think you're cutting bait quite then. Uh. Perhaps after that,
as you get closer towards the end of the regular season,
I would have to look up where the trade deadline is.

(29:08):
Maybe there's a place, uh suitor that would come knocking
on your door. But now I'll take the over on
January one. Look, it's if it wasn't for the fact
that things with the Nets. Situation with the Nets and
Kevin Durant in the NBA, one month is like six
months now because teams are built to win in a
short window. It's it's it's no longer alright, we we

(29:29):
got a first round draft pick. He's going to develop.
In a couple of years. We have a couple of
good free agent signings. They'll develop and in two or
three years. No, the NBA is a year to your
business now. And the Nets have a really talented core.
And I've said before Harden and Katie could work really
well together without the distraction of Kyrie Irving. They don't
really need Kyrie. They could still play well as long
as they're both healthy. This is not going to be

(29:52):
a will wait and let this whole thing play out.
They're gonna be sick and tired of this by the
time we get to the end of the year, and
they're gonna want to move on and find a way,
and it's gonna Kyrie is just every day. We can't
do this anymore. So, Kyrie, let's we either we buy
you out or you're accepting a trade someplace where you
can go, where you can go play and resume your
NBA career. And you kind of have to because he's

(30:12):
not getting any money back, he's not getting paid. That's
kind of what if he's not gonna get vaccinated. That's
where he is, and and there's no way to cut
around that after a month of this or a month
and a half of this, the Nets start out, they
don't start out great, this is gonna hang over the team.
They're gonna say whatever we need to do to move on.
They've already moved on mentally. And whenever they get Kyrie
it's like it's found money, Like all right, well Kyrie

(30:34):
is here, and all right he's here from But however
long he's here for, we'll enjoy it. They've already moved
on mentally, you can tell, and physically and d percent
they will move on at some point soon because it
will be it will get too much too soon for them.
I promise you that. Well, I would say, at least
in the moment, did say we need to get ready
for the season. We can't worry about that right now.

(30:54):
It doesn't mean it's not there. But is it occupying
a percent of their attention? No? No, because you know
what the rest of that squad is. You remember we
did it yesterday. There's a lot of veterans, and I
think if we were to match up ages, they ain't
much younger than the Lakers that everybody keeps saying are
old and decrepit say they're going to the finals and
winning it. So what does that tell you? We should

(31:15):
have asked to follow up? Did that include Kyrie Irving
on that squad or not? Oh? Hey, it's okay. Hey look,
I'm just gonna tell you about that big prediction that
I said, less than fifty games for all three of them.
Oh how excited am I gonna be when that? You know,
on game fifty one? Should if that ever happened. I'm
buying pizzas for everybody, I mean individual, large, deep dish pizzas. Okay,

(31:37):
that's good because I win that way too, would be everybody,
but you I have Why don't I get a pizza
because you're lost? Why why do you have to lose it?
You have to salivate while everybody else is enjoying their pie. Wow,
So that's who you are, right now? You you? You
said no, No, I'm gonna celebrate that you're wrong, and

(31:58):
I'm not even gonna give you pizza. Now I see
it now, I see who you are. That's I send
it to Pam and say Pam instructions for the consumption
of this piece. No, no, now, I see who you are. Now,
I see who you are? All right? Now I change everything.
Where is that I could growing? Okay, mustache better Beard?

(32:18):
Twitter it out about a fresca. Mike gets swollen dome.

Cardinals still tied at one apiece. The game will be
talking about tomorrow night, Mike and I will pick it
for you coming up next talks. Be sure to catch

(33:01):
live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon
weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app. Yeah. This
song goes out to Justin Turner, who should have been
swinging at a higher pitch. He strikes out on a
ball that bounces a foot in front of the plate.
So now two outs runner on first for the Dodgers.

(33:22):
Diegos is on the mound for the Cardinals, trying to
send this to the ninth inning at one a piece. Yeah,
but you know what's funny is he got Turner to
swing at the same thing. Yeah, that him the same
exact pitch bouncing in the dirt. I used to throw
a pitch like that when I was a kid. I
don't know how I did it, but I had one
that just dropped off. You just could reach the plate.
That's probably what it was. You just threw it as

(33:43):
far as you couldn't have bounced in front of the plate. Well,
you know what, sometimes maybe that wasn't wasn't necessarily wrong
at the end of and at the end of the game.
But I was a crafty south Puffies back then you
faced a lot of right handed pitching. Were any left
handers not crafty? Know, you have to say crafty. You
have to be crafty. I mean, not only is it

(34:03):
imp it's implied, but it must be pronounced, enunciated, and
shouted from the rooftops. I knew this lefty. He wasn't
crafty at all, man, he was he didn't know anything.
He didn't know which hand to throw with. You had
no idea. He had problems crafty. Uh. The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Carmen going to the ninth inning one

(34:25):
a piece Cardinals and the Dodgers. Things are getting really
tight right now at Chevez Ravine. But tomorrow night, at
this time, we'll be talking about the breakdown of the
Rams and the Seahawks, like a big game on Thursday
night with two teams that have big time Super Bowl dreams.
And even though I'm kind of down on Seattle right

(34:48):
now because clearly they're not quite the team we expected
them to be, Russell Wilson is playing other worldly right now.
It's Thursday night at home. I'm picking the Seahawks right there.
Real not that good there existing on Wilson doing it all.
Like I said that being said, they usually come up
with something big on national TV. Defenses are gonna get

(35:08):
tired early because you're having the short week, and the
Rams will wilt a little bit more being on the
road and the and the clearly the Rams rely on
their defense a little bit more than the Seahawks do.
Wilson's gonna like make life really hard for the Rams
getting out of the pocket. The Rams should score points
and it'll be fun. But Seattle wins late. I find
it hard to believe that the Rams are gonna come
in here and win this game in this short week.

(35:31):
I'm not gonna be any filled with less confidence about
the Rams going to the super Bowl. This is a
tough two week stretch back to back, and clearly the
NFC West is terrific. But I'm expecting the Seahawks to
come way and win this game tomorrow night. Look, man,
I've seen teams move the ball on this Rams defense.
You've got a couple of big standouts, but go back
to Week one, you still had more first downs on
a yardage that was nearly even you know by the

(35:53):
guy Andy Dalton that everybody hates so much. Uh, A
couple of big players change that game doesn't mean those
won't be there. Seattle's defense has been abysmal. Uh. If
you waiver Wire probably should have run in your fantasy leagues.
But Carson's got a neck injury, which means Alex Collins
will be showing up leagues for this week. But I'm

(36:13):
there with you. Seahawks getting two and a half at home,
give me that at the over under sitting at fifty
four and a half and softy ar guy kJ R
there in Seattle, UH is talking about to get in
is well under a hundred bucks for this one. If
you ever want to do UH, check out Seattle for
a game. I think this might be the cheapest you've
seen in a very long time. Even with the Rams,

(36:35):
the high paller Rams team coming in. I'd it's gonna
be tough for me to start Alex Collins on a
Thursday night against the Rams defense. That's gonna be a
tough one for me. Man's this is where you go
against the grain ten times forty four yards at the score.
In Week four against the Niners, I'm Dublin down. Let's

(36:57):
go Twitter and about a fresca. Mike, It's all and
don The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike
Harmen coming up next. The drama going on right now
between the Cardinals and the Dodgers is gonna be repeated.
We'll tell you where and when next. This is The
