Discover offers helpful US based reps. Available twenty four seven.
Discover exceptionally common Sense. Now, a little bit on the
Lakers before we get into a big FM pick story. Uh,
the Lakers lose tonight and it was never a contest
against the Mavericks, and now they are technically out of
the tenth position in the Western Conference because they are
(01:05):
tied with the Spurs, but the Spurs have the tiebreaker.
The Lakers are trending in the wrong direction. The Spurs
are trending in the right direction. And you know, last
hour we talked about Lebron and how many games he's
probably gonna play the rest of the way because he
doesn't want to get blamed for not making the playoffs.
So let's see how available he is the rest of
the games. Let's see if he plays more than two,
I'll be surprised. But Frank Vogel talked after the game tonight,
(01:30):
and I feel like I don't know that it's actually
really Frank Vogel because he says the same thing after
every game the Lakers don't play well. It may be
a recording of him that they just keep playing out there,
but this was Frank Vogel following the laws of the
Mavericks tonight. We just did next you well enough and
play with enough and toughness, i Q, intelligence, focus and
(01:50):
fighting you know in that half. So not acceptable and um,
you know, just a poor performance across the board, Coaches, players, everybody.
How many times are you gonna say that every time
the Lakers lose. It's it's a poor performance. It's not acceptable.
We don't it's the same thing, he said. It's kind
of like when I watch a quarterback every week talk
(02:12):
about the interceptions that he through and he takes, he
takes responsibility for it, says, you know what, that pick
that was my fault, even if it kind of wasn't. Look,
that was my fault. I didn't read the defensive back
ride right, I didn't recognize the coverage. And it's great
because I like to see quarterbacks take responsibility. But eventually
you say, okay, after a few weeks of this, this
quarterback's gotta be bench. It's nice he takes responsibility, but
(02:33):
we can't keep throwing these interceptions. I mean, it's it's
great after that he's not blaming anybody and throw anybody
under the bus, but we kind of need some production here.
I feel that way with Frank Vogel. Dude, you've been
saying this for months now, Okay, so clearly, clearly this
team is not responding to you. All right, there's That's
what I mean when you're saying the same thing over
(02:54):
and over again. The team is not responding to you.
Professional athletes, they do this for a little You're getting
paid a lot of money to do this, right. This
is this is not coaching a bunch of kids, and
you know they're twelve and thirteen that that listen to
you half the time and the other time they're thinking about,
oh I gotta get that TikTok video. What no, no no,
that this is professional sports. It's a big deal. When
they tune you out. Okay, it's time for something new.
(03:17):
And when I said last hour, the best thing for
the Lakers to do if they missed the playoffs, you
blow up the roster. The only one who should be
left on it going into free agency is Lebron James.
If you want to keep Malik Monk, that's fine, but
someone's gonna want to pay him a lot of money
after this too it because none of this has worked.
The roster hasn't worked, The players haven't worked. You know,
Lebron's not going anywhere, so okay, you kind of you're
(03:38):
kind of going forward with him. But the same thing
with coaching because clearly they're not responding. So it's gotta
be new coach. It's gotta be new. But it's gotta
be new everything. No more mellow, no more a d obviously,
no Westbrook everybody. You need an entirely new invention of
this team with new leadership and new voices, because this
is what happens when coaches keep saying the same thing
(03:58):
over and over again. It means a players aren't listening
to him. No, no, we we've hit that that point, right,
and it's been that way a while, right, And let's
not sugarcoat this isn't the last couple of games going.
Oh man, I just don't know. He's been banging his
head against the wall with the same speech. Now, I
Q focus and fight is a is a nice uh?
(04:19):
I mean I got to write a song with that
as the title. I mean I kind of dig that,
but no, or you know, that's my six man tag
team champion and treat to any future tournament in the
w W E or n X T or uh go
over to any a E W or whatever promotion will
have me. But it's just that that at this point,
(04:42):
what else is he gonna say? I guess because he's
not gonna go after an individual. Hey, we're not getting
good enough play from player blank. Now we got Russell
Westbrook fighting with reporters, not not to uh to where
it doesn't end with a handshake and a hug, but
certainly again it's like, you know, what can you do?
What do you think we should do? No, I'm asking
(05:04):
you you're the player that wasn't rhetorical. Oh, I'm sorry,
I didn't get that's what you're asking me that look,
I mean that. That's how this has been such a
an absolute tire fire for the Lakers this year that
you can't. Sometimes things get so bad that, no matter what,
you can't just try to pick and choose from the
(05:25):
rubble and say, all right, we're gonna come back with
this next year and we're gonna try to make it
work and fill in pieces. No, sometimes it's just this
was just such a just an epic failure. You need
to get all the remembrances of it out. You need
to just start over and say this is new, this
is who we are, and we're going forward to Lakers
are still a destination. We're gonna continue to build around
Lebron and he's got another couple of years left. Whether
(05:47):
whether you want him here or not, Lebron is gonna
be here. He's gonna stay till Braunie gets the league,
and all these things are gonna happen and we're gonna
adjust to it. Sometimes you can't. This season is such
a spectacular failure for the Lakers to try to come
back with anything resembling the same roster next year. That's
just gonna be defeated. Energy before the season begins. The
(06:08):
fans are gonna be defeated. The team is gonna be
defeated because they're gonna because they're gonna say, okay, well
last year was awful. We look up at everybody fair
about the best teams. We could even beat the really
awful teams. We would have fifteen twenty point leads against
them and blow these leads. Now we're gonna be okay,
coming back with ten of the same guys, and we're
gonna replace Russell Westbrook and Taylor Horton Tucker. That's gonna
be the difference for us something. Now we're gonna go
(06:28):
from finishing eleventh of finishing third in the West. No,
it's not happening. You can't do it. Sometimes seasons are
just you need to move on from them entirely. And
this is the case of the Lakers. Yeah, I mean,
and as we've we've discussed a bunch, you know, when
it comes down to it, Look, I hope Lebron's leg
is fine, right, nobody's wishing Ill Will and anybody misconstruing
(06:49):
any earlier comments or yesterday's discussions on this. It's the
just the idea that if he doesn't play that you know,
he's not at least somewhat response us before the roster
that was put together and the season they've had is
just asinine. Right, he doesn't get a free pass. Even
with great, gaudy stats and some brilliant performances mixed, they're
(07:11):
in right, and Vogel wants to throw him in the
m v P consideration. Uh, if for nothing else to say, Look,
I got your back, don't get me fired. We can
we can do this again. Remember just I mean, it
seems like a lifetime ago that they won that title, right,
Oh yeah that And I think that's the interesting part
of all of this is just you know, you got
the Bucks before their title, but it seems like that
(07:33):
was five years ago because you haven't seen the same
team now. Obviously players are gonna come and go. You
mentioned Malik Monk, you know, with Lebron out, who else
is gonna score? Russ had had a pretty good game
today and Monk had twenty eight. He's gonna have a
nice string of highlights to show prospective bidders for his
services after this year, so that that that'll be a
(07:57):
tough uh, you know, resigning and retention. But otherwise, now
it becomes the all right, how do we spin off
and sell any pieces left to try to rebuild it
while Lebron is still in this mode. That's a really
hard thing for that front office to do. Uh. We
were watching it play out live once again, right, all
(08:17):
of those playoff mrs before Lebron came in and you
got to the promised land, and now it's the alright,
sustained success. Obviously it was a a moment in time
where it all worked, but you made two big name
acquisitions and and neither of them are giving you what
you want. Again. We we've talked about Westbrook all season
(08:37):
long that you should have let him be the guy
that he's been for over a decade if you're gonna
bring him in instead of hey, you go stand around
and occasionally, you know, you'll take a spot up shot,
which is not his game. And Anthony Davis, who you
were banking on being able to pass the baton from
Lebron to him as your franchise guy, well that that's
(08:58):
no longer a sir, d in any way, shape or form. Right,
How how are you suddenly gonna believe this guy is
gonna be your leader for seventy five regular season games
and the playoffs. It's not, man, it's that that's fictitious.
That's a pipe dream at this point. And if you're
able to, you know, somehow get one of those the
rest of his career, I think you'd probably have pretty
(09:20):
good odds that you can cash in on in Vegas
or wherever your sports book is. So it's a tough
task for the Lakers right now to try to figure
out how to navigate going forward, because to to get
rid of those contracts. If you do decide to trade,
you know, a d Or or Westbrook, I mean, what
are you getting back expiring contracts and maybe a lottery ticket?
(09:43):
And I don't mean a lottery pick. I mean a
guy that just hasn't fit in and his roster and
young enough to where you say, well, maybe Lebron can
make him into whatever he was projected to be in
draft scouting and stuff. It's it's really a very difficult
position in a loaded conference. Well what do I always say?
(10:04):
If I have the choice between X and Y, and
I know X isn't working. You have to pick why,
because you know you know that that you know that
X doesn't work, So you have to pick why. Why
may not be a greater future for the Lakers. It
might not work all right, because clearly the Lakers have
existed on you know for all this all the Lakers
(10:24):
great front office, great front office. Let's look at their
big acquisitions, right, Chack wanted to come to l a
because he wanted the Lakers brand. Oh okay, great, So
now we become a championship team because Shack wanted the Lakers.
Don't anything they did? Right? How did the Lakers then
win titles with Kobe Bryant because Jerry West, Hey, here
take pal Gasol. Oh great, now we're going to three
finals in a row. And it was a trade that
(10:45):
it was all, if you're gonna hand him to us,
you're gonna hand him to us. That's great. Anthony Davis
wanted the Lakers, and so he really going to the Lakers.
We're going no place else. Lebron wanted the Lakers for
the Lakers like the Lakers and tons of great moves
that are so savvy where you you point your head
and go hah, say you see, look at a lot
of guys, they've like blossomed in other places all across
the NBA. But you have to try, you have to
(11:06):
try something else because you know this isn't gonna work. Well,
every one of those young actors all became pretty good
players once they got a chance to get out of
the the shadow of all those jerseys up in the
rafters and the grand expectations. Well, in a way from
Lebron and in a way for you know, because not
everybody can play when you're playing for Lebron, And make
no mistake, when you're playing, you're playing for Lebron. So
(11:29):
but that's it. It's also people, can't we when we
talk about it all the time, the standing around effect.
You know, if you say that out loud, you might
get yelled at. But with with the superstars, we've seen
that in the NBA forever. Right, Oh, he's got the ball.
I can take the rest of the possession off, right,
that was part of winning time the other day. Stop
standing around? Well, you're not gonna pass it to me? Right,
(11:53):
he goes skyhook two points, Like we keep the ball moving,
we stay active. The Reeve's got it, I'm go on
backup court because I I I get well, No, I'm
gonna stand and I'm gonna watch him go to work
at one on one McKinney making him run suicide. What
a what an episode it was? Yeah, like Julius Randall
last night, just watching the Knicks play the final three
(12:15):
and half minutes. He was just pissed he was benched
in the fourth quarter. I'm just gonna stand in the
quarter and him. I'm really mad. You hate him? So
that's a trade? Hey, Like, hey, you want Julius Randall.
Lakers would love to get Julius random back? Not right?
Why not? Yeah, you can take that contract and we'll
take um uh boy, I'm trying to think what I
would want. We'll figure it out. Well, don't worry, Well,
(12:36):
we'll figure it out. You want, you gonna have Julius
Randall backs and make that work. You gotta do something,
and it's gotta be a clean break. It's gotta be
clean break. You can't. You can't come back with the
same the same leadership, the same place. You just this
is just a season that's not well. One or two
things didn't go right, So we can run it back. No,
this is everybody has not worked. To a man, this
is incredibly disappointing. We can't even beat bad teams with
(13:00):
Lebron and a D in the lineup at the same time,
or Lebron and Westbrook in the lineup at the same time,
or Westbrook and and a D. We can't beat bad
teams with this when we we have the two best
players on the floor every single game and we wind
up blowing leads or not beating teams we should beat. Yeah,
you kind of have to start over. And look, A
D was terrific, right he at the Big Three against
(13:20):
the Nuggets, and he proved to have that little bit
of spurt after time was off for so long in
the bubble, and they won the championship. And that's kind
of it. And now A D kind of exists on
on on being a D and and and his and
the and the athletic gifts that he has. He's someone
who stays healthy, No he can't. Does he work on
his bodies, but you shouldn't know he can. Does he
(13:40):
care about being a dominant player? No he doesn't. So okay,
you got what you can out and he won a championship.
You can move on. Other teams would love to get him.
Other teams love to get some of these other players. Completely.
Move on, completely, move on. That's the way to go. Now,
we've been going through the Minnesota north Stars legends with
our our boss and and team here at Fox Sports Radio,
(14:01):
Scott Shapiro. He just gave us this nugget on Twitter
at Scott Shapiro. Thirty three Laggers with their five future
Hall of Famers. More games removed from the one seed
in the West, thirty games than the twenty and fifty
six Magic and Pistons are from the one seed in
the East. There are eight games out. Well, look at
it this, I thank Scott. If the Knicks were in
(14:23):
the Western Conference, they'd be in third place. So just
just understand where the where the East and the West
is Twitter, Well, they would they would be in the
nine nineth seed. They would be right, We're in the
playing round. Were firmly in the playing round in the
Western Conferencing. It just happens that way. Be sure to

(15:08):
Slash match limitations they do apply. Well, stop me if
you've heard this one before. Pete Carroll says, oh, I
can't imagine our team without player X. We have no
intention of trading player X. And then player X gets traded. Uh,
Pete Carroll just a few days, I feel like after
he said, look, we have no intention of trading Russell Wilson.
(15:31):
Will you know where you know? Russell Wilson's our quarterback.
He makes it better. We have no intention of trading
Russell Wilson. Russell Wilson got traded to the Denver Broncos.
Uh what about DK, Well we have that types let's let'
let's hear the Pete Carroll look ahead, lets let's hear it.
I had no intention of making a move at all
while we you know, got around of contract and we
were pleased with what was going on and all. I
fought for the logic of that for a good while
(15:53):
until it wasn't meaningful anymore, you know, to do to
stick with that? So so yeah, so no, no, no,
we we had no intention until we actually traded him that. Yeah,
well he put it all on Russ. Yeah, man, the
entire thing, we have no intention of trading kind of
kind of alluded to it there, but he was a
little more direct in part of his comments. But yeah,
now now we're back to intent, right How how loaded
(16:15):
is the word? I don't know in sports that there's
another word that says loaded as intend is. Right now,
intend is a pretty innocuous, right, I don't I'll intend
to do this. I intend to get that done. I
intend to make sure. But whatever you hear it in sports,
it's such a trigger word where we have no intention.
Wait a minute, you said the word. When you say
(16:36):
intend or intention, it means you're thinking about it. Yeah,
I mean it's supposed to be resolved or determined to
do something. Instead it seems like, I mean, that's really
what we want. But so today Pete Carroll was asked
about DK Metcalf, who suddenly is on the block as
(16:56):
is potentially Deebo, Samuel A. J. Brown, all guys are
gonna be doing a lot of money very soon. Are
the Seahawks gonna stick with DK Metcalf? Pete, what do
you say? I hope we intend for him to do
out this time of year to that topic, yet he says,
(17:17):
it's because you get some everything's going on and we'd
love to have there's no way to play without. Yeah,
we love. We don't intend to trade DK Metcalf is
what he said there at the very beginning. We don't
intend to try. I can't imagine our team without really,
you can imagine your team without Russell Wilson, but not
without DK Metcalf. This means call me, call me my like,
(17:39):
call me Annie any time. This means call me, call me,
call me. I will trade DK Metcalf. And look, clearly,
from just a sense standpoint, are the Seahawks starting over? Yeah,
when you're starting over, do you have room for a
receiver that you have to pay twenty million dollars a year? Two?
Of course not where you're starting you know, no, you don't.
(18:01):
So yeah, I would make an f them picks offer
right now. I would call Seattle and say, hey, I
gotta F them picks offer for you. Let's go do it,
because clearly we've seen that being the the mode as
operandi of many teams in the NFL. Now after the
Rams did it with such great results, Yeah, let's go.
Let's make an F them picks offer. I got an
(18:23):
f M picks off her right now? For DK Metcalf.
You could have more picks in the draft that you
got back. You have more picks the ones you got
for Russell Wilson that you had to get because you
traded away those picks for Jamal Adams. But still I
can get you more bigs now for DK Metcalf. Yes,
F them picks offers all for DK Metcalf, do it. Look,
you know me, receiver is a very replaceable position, right
(18:43):
and I get that. But DK Metcalf is twenty four
years old. And this is a guy that is not
twenty eight, not twenty nine. He is ascending. He led
the league in touchdowns last year. I mean he is
just that good a receiver and again twenty four years old. Yeah,
he's the guy you make a F them picks offer for. Yeah,
(19:03):
it just comes down and well to philosophical differences, right
of teams, And I know we've talked about it the
way the wide receiver role has changed these last couple
of years, because it used to be the all right,
we'll project a wide receiver. There's like, nah, the success
rate is really low. They hit rate on guys that
come in right away. Well, now the offenses are different. Right.
(19:24):
It used to be two years of growing and you're
hoping that in year three you'd have the breakout. Right.
I don't know how many of those columns I wrote
for fantasy purposes all those years ago. That's not the case.
Guys are coming in and making an impact. But we also,
on the other hand, have to be cognizant that assuming
you're going to get it right again, right with the
(19:45):
names you just mentioned, all stars, right, all guys who
have outperformed their contracts to this point and are now
in that position to get one of these big fat
deals that Davante Adams and Tyree Killed have gotten. Um,
especially the Seahawks, But like you said, they're in rebuild mode.
But certainly they haven't that those are DK Metcalf's one
(20:06):
of the only things they can hang their ad on
right now for the last five years. Otherwise it's been
pretty poor run of drafts for Carol and Schneider there
in Seattle, Tyler Lockett. For both those guys, i'd be
fielding offers. Yeah, we're we're just starting over. Give us
a couple of guys that can work on the interior
(20:26):
or a linebacker or something. Uh, and here take the
wide receivers. Will take our our shots in the draft
and see if we can't because we gotta go figure
out the quarterback position first, right, nothing happens without function
at that position. And while I made like Drew lock
a little bit, I don't I don't think he's the
number one right now. I mean, you know, certainly in Denver,
(20:50):
we we didn't see it consistently enough. So yeah, you
you trade out the wide receivers, grab picks, and move forward,
you know, trusting that current GM can get it right,
especially given I mean this draft class in particular, the
number of guys that look like they're gonna be able
to come in and make an impact right away, that
(21:10):
you can start that reload process and restart the clock
before you have to pay anybody any quote unquote real
money because I have to put that in quotes because
to you me Lieutenant Weinberg and all the millions and
millions of our adoring fans across this nation. I mean,
these guys are making real money the moment they you know,
(21:31):
get drafted and sign those first trading cards for these companies,
long before that first actual check clears anymore with N
I L and everything else. But it's the reality of
million dollars is the price of poker for for top
end receivers, and depending on where your situation is as
a team. Uh, you know, it's like flipping a house.
(21:53):
Let's go get the h g TV flip my roster. Alright,
So let's go over some teams that should and f
them picks offer. I know one already because we already
talked about. Well, I'll give you two. I'll give you
both of our teams should make an FM picks offer.
The Jets and the Bears. Right, the Jets, clearly they
need something for Zach Wilson again because he's twenty four,
(22:14):
and it's teams that have something in place. Not the
best teams are DK METC for obviously big time contenders
that have room. You know, you don't have to pay
the guy at some point, so you gotta have some
financial flexibility, but you also have to have your quarterback
position somewhat settled, and hey, let's get this guy a
shiny new toy. Right. So Jets and Bears, Yeah, you
think you have your quarterbacks, now go give them the
(22:36):
top flight asset to see if you can't make that
come to fruition. Absolutely. Yeah, the Jets clearly, and look
they were tried to be in on Tiree kill who
just used the Jets as leverage. But still that you
know they want to do it. The Bears, you gotta
get Justin Fields a guy because he's got such a
strong arm to get the ball down field. I mean
those are two yes. Is absolutely, I'm gonna say no.
(22:56):
On the Packers. I'm gonna say no because if you
if you give dk Metcalf that money, where are you.
You're the same place you were at the end of
last year. We're we're a good team. We got Aaron
Rodgers and we have one good wide receiver. And you've
just replaced Davanta Adams with DK metcalf, Um Dk Metcalf
(23:17):
and Alan Lazard Randall cop That's not gonna win. Right.
If I'm the Packers, I say, you know what, I
pick a twenty two, fifty three, and fifty nine. I
don't blink. I take four wide receivers. I take four
wide receivers in the first two rounds because you're gonna
get a couple of really good ones, and suddenly you're
a more dangerous team. You got wide receivers you can
(23:39):
keep for the next two or three years with Aaron Rodgers,
and you are a better football team. Don't blink. Don't think, oh,
we can solve a prop. No, take four wide receivers
because none of the ones you have right now are
any good. None of them are good. Take four, two
in the first round, two in the second round. Bring
him to camp and see what happens. That's how you
try to take that step back with losing Davontae Adams
and take that step forward. I kind of dig that.
(24:00):
I mean, it's really a play on your old Just
keep drafting a bunch of quarterbacks on Day three and
make them all fight for the job, fight club style. Uh.
You know you do have Jordan's love, so maybe you
can leverage that to where uh you know, Seattle gives
you Metcalfine. Here's Jordan love. Uh, and then you settle
out whatever the rest of it is. So you at
(24:20):
least have that a list guy. But but I I'd
look at a team in your division and go get
Mac Jones his number one. Yeah, Robert Kraft, you want
you want to have your shot, go take your shot.
I would. I would say that, But I don't know.
The Patriots have the money. They invested so much money
in wide receiver with Jags. How many times do we
(24:44):
bring up Nelson A You know we're gonna play a
bunch of Jags. Well, you're really gonna pay Aglare and
Kendrick born in two tight ends that kind of money.
At least gave you some production. At least he gave
you some production. And when when healthy, Hunter Henry did too.
But anew Smith was useless, right, he did nothing for
you and Nelson Aghilor. I mean, my goodness from day
(25:06):
one is like we're scratching our head on that, and
that certainly didn't change at any point. So yeah, it's, uh,
that's that's a difficult proposition. But you know, if Bob
Kraft wants to get out of woe was me is
um uh, that's one of the things you can do.
Go shake it up. Figure out how to make that
work because you certainly, I mean, as they always do.
They've got a ton of picks, and as you say,
(25:29):
blank those picks. I'm also gonna say no for the
Chiefs because you wouldn't pay Tyree Kill. Now you're gonna
pay Dk Metcalf when clearly you get you got your squad,
go out on the you got one or two other
free agents. Screw that. Yeah, but it also didn't work.
Your Big three didn't work before, and you're moving on
from the Big three to try to reinvent it a
(25:50):
different way. So okay, why would you do that? I
agree to do it. You just brought in these other players.
You brought in Ronald Jones, who's a hell of a
receiver out of the backfield when he healthy. So you've
got explosiveness there. You still have the there's the list
of guys that are available on the open market that
are secondary, tertiary guys. And again you've got a lot
(26:11):
of picks. They've got twelve picks, Jason twelve picks. So
even if we say f them picks, well, if you
use those picks, and what we know that Andy Reid
is able to do in that offense, and again, you know,
folks got all up and up just like well, he
didn't get to a Super Bowl without Tara Owens or Tyreek. Okay, fine,
but were they not in a lot of title games?
(26:34):
Were they not consistently winners? Again, appreciation for Donovan McNabb
uh has to be done. There no disrespect to the
career of James thrash, Twitter and out about a Fresca
Mike and Swollen on the Jason Smith Show with my
best friend Mike Carmen. All Right, a couple of teams
I would say yes to, including one that should do
it more than anybody. Okay, I'm gonna get click. Come on,
(26:57):
you you got a Mari Cooper. You're you can't pay
another twenty million? All right? Their guy? No, yeah, you can't,
you can't. It's not It's not Oceans eleven where you
can just add one more. Guy. No, there's you have
to worry about. If Oceans eleven had a salary captain
movie would be Oceans for you think more. We have
money for Clooney and Pit and maybe a little bit
of Damon and maybe Carl Reinner, but the rest of
(27:17):
those guys, we've got no money for him. I think
they all jumped in just to be part of the gang.
And certainly that nobody got paid on the second one
because all they did was play poker. That's the only
reason they got together to that sequel. Hey, that went over,
and we get to hang out again. Hey, let's make
it all on location in Lake Como, shall we. I'm
(27:37):
gonna say a big, fat yes for the Eagles and
the Jaguars, who both need big wide receivers to be
security blankets for their quarterbacks. Maybe they grow together, you know,
those are those are great destinations, right Jaguars going forward,
Trevor Lawrence. They need a guy because clearly everything they
did with their position players, their skill players hasn't worked.
(27:59):
Philadelphia and needs another big weapon for Jalen Hurts. But
the team that's got to go make an FM picks
offer and it and and it's if you gotta bite
the bullet on. This is the Colts. If you've gone
all in to think you're this great team, and we
won't get Matt Ryan. You know what, Matt Ryan is
a guy that needs weapons because he can only throw
the ball accurately about eight yards downfield. Hey, come on, now,
(28:22):
you'll see man it looks dare you he's just a guy? Now?
Is he a little bit better than Carson Palmer? Carson Palmer. Yes,
he's better than Carson Palm like you saw. So it
wasn't just what was going on, and we'll get there's
a whole other thing going on here sub text. He's
crazy if he thinks suddenly, now this is a super
(28:43):
Bowl team. But you went out and got Matt Ryan.
You need a better number one than Michael Pittman Jr.
You need, you need, you need to be a little
bit more dynamic outside and that's where you go. Make
an FM picks offer for DK Metcalf. So those teams, yes,
but the Colts the top of that, yes, make that
offer for DK Metcalf. Yeah, there's still according to the
(29:04):
old spoke track, spot track, I forget how we're pronouncing it.
This week, they have the second most available cap space. Uh.
And then obviously they can make some moves and move
some money around, but they need more help in that
receiving corps, no question about it. Be sure to catch

(30:14):
my bass friend Mike Harmon And oh boy, do we
have an I hate to say I told you so,
but wow moment coming your way in about ten minutes.
But first, oh, look, we've got great stuff from the
owners meetings in the NFL the past couple of days,
gotten great headlines. Talked about Pete Carroll a few minutes ago,
and maybe the Packers or hey, we really need wide receivers,
(30:37):
you think, But today Kyle Shanahan, forty Niners head coach
said that Trey Lance will start for the team sooner
rather than later. Another Jimmy Garoppolo story. Like we said
last night, Jimmy Garoppolo, nobody wants him. If somebody wanted him,
they would have traded for him. I feel like the Simpsons,
Uh Star Treks get the Klingons again with the Klingons,
(31:00):
Garoppolo again with Jimmy Garoppolo, but with all of this
murkiness which the Forts really are pushing themselves. I'll tell
you exactly how this is gonna end. It's really simple, Okay,
for all is always a Garoppolo, is it left? Jimmy
Garoppolo is not gonna be able to get on the
field until the beginning of July. Trey Lance is gonna
take all the off season reps. You're gonna get all
(31:23):
the the O t A reps and he's gonna look
pretty good. You're not going back to Garoppolo after this.
You're not because if you go back, you're admitting the
tray Lance is a real bust that's not gonna happen.
So he's gonna get all the off season reps. So
he's the starter right when Jimmy Garoppolo gets healthy, he'll
be traded now. Maybe a team makes a move post
(31:45):
draft and the Niners feel comfortable enough with it because
we can low ball the offer for the Niners a
little bit. And we didn't get what we wanted in
the NFL Draft, so we want to make sure we
strike now. We don't want to wait until the beginning
of July and then try to make a trade for Garoppolo.
We didn't get the guys we liked a quarterback, so hey,
let's make a move for Garoppolo. It could happen after
(32:06):
the draft, but it will happen when he gets back
on the field and gets a pretty good clean bill
of health in July. It's going to happen. The Niners
are gonna bring in another quarterback to be the backup
behind trade Lance, whether it's Baker Mayfield or somebody else,
and when Garoppolo is healthy, then he'll get traded. I mean,
that's it. That's how it goes. Lance takes the starters reps.
He's the starter. Either Garoppolo gets traded after the draft
(32:28):
or when he's healthy in July. You're not getting the
treasure trove you thought you were gonna get. You're not
getting a first, you're not getting a set. You're getting
whatever a team wants to give you because you played
the game of poker way too long with Garoppolo. So
that's how it's gonna go. But that's exactly how this
ends with the forty. You can't change any other part
of that. How this Lance is a starter, somebody else
will back up. Garoppolo is getting traded. That's how it
(32:49):
goes well and at least for this year, you're you're
not hamstrung, right because you're talking about guys like Deebo,
Samuel and others that have to get paid eventually, right,
So they're not killing you on the cap right now.
And Trey Lance costs you next to nothing. And who
was it Nate Sudfield that they brought in, right, So
it's not like you've got guys on the roster that
(33:12):
that eat up a ton of cap space. So you
can play the waiting game with Garoppolo, much like we've
talked about, you know, the game of Chicken that Cleveland's
trying to play of, Well, we'd love to get something
for Baker Mayfield. Now it's a matter of timing, right,
so we gotta wait around. Does somebody get hurt, does
a team not get the quarterback they wanted in the
draft or whatever to move things forward. We saw Andy
(33:34):
Dalton get a new job today. Good for him going down. Yeah,
it was. It was a year in a day right
from the QB one from the Bears. So there you go.
So you know, but it's the idea, you know, both
the Shanahan uh and John Lynch, you know, like what
we we don't have to do something right now. We're
(33:54):
in a good spot because we we can wait and
and hopefully with all the reps. As we talked to
out a little bit yesterday and and in past iterations
of you know, the latest rumor conjecture speculation coming out
of San Francisco is you know that that you have
the ability now to to get a lot more reps
and a lot more looks with Trey Lance to see
(34:15):
if he's making the strides that you're hoping for while
Jimmy Garoppolos getting himself back in shape. I thought one
thing that was kind of interesting that they were going
back on was, Yeah, we talk I talked to Tray
all the time. It's like, yeah, in the offseason, Jimmy
and I don't really talk much. I thought that was
kind of interesting, not just now but in the past
as well. So you got that, you know that you
(34:37):
kind of scratch your head and move on. But at
this point, yeah, that means more of an opportunity for
Lance to assert himself and and to try to win
out that number one roll right away and make Garoppolo
irrelevant and a guy that becomes a luxury to be
able to trade away. I mean, they're in a prime
power position right now. Twitter, And how about a Fresca
(34:57):
Mike gets Swollen down the Jason Smiths with Hi, Carmen,
what about Trailance? Oh god, we text all the time,
we talk all He's great. What about Jimmy? When's the
last time I texted with Jimmy? Jimmy said he liked
the Batman. That was good. His WiFi plan isn't the
best in the off season, so he doesn't return text
(35:18):
quite his office. He did send me a couple of
memes from the Oscars Twitter it out about a Fresca
Mike and Swollen dumb boy, do we have a great
