there's hope for thee. I mean, Mike Tonight was so bad, man.
Sometimes some stuff is just so bad. It's just wow.

no other reliever? You trust the ninth inning. That's what
Dave Roberts wants to tell us in trying to stand
up for Edwin Diaz. There's nobody else he can trust
the ninth inning. Really, if I'm Tanner Scott, I'm like, dude, seriously,
come on, man, I mean, really, this is what you
got me for. I get you like me in the
multi inning role, the high leverage role, because that's really
what Tanner Scott Scott does now for the Dodgers is

he comes in. Hey, if it's the eighth inning, one out,
first and second, that's when Tanner Scott comes in. Sixth inning,
bases loaded, nobody out, Tanner Scott comes in. But you know,
you need some sort of uh of order to things,
and people know where the ninth inning's going to go,
and you know Scott the ninth inning. Sure, why not?
You know, eventually Robuski might be a ninth inning guy
because he's going to hit his innings limit and you

could already see that. Maybe it's affecting him, so maybe
maybe he goes to the bullpen and he's a guy
that closes. Why not, right, I mean, it's you gotta
try something else. Can't just say oh, we have nobody else,
nobody else on the team. You can pitch a ninth inning.
There's not one person you could Nope, can't put anybody
else out there. And I'm not saying go put geeky
Hernandez out there. He'd be the first guy raising his
club coach. I got it, Skip, I got him, and
I go out, Yeah, give me that, give me somebody else,

of baseball games got got a second for us. But
even with all the yeah, we're blocking the door so
you can't leave, Dave, we're gonna talk to you about
this ninth inning.

But we were talking about it with all the struggles, even
the end of last week. Coming out of the weekend,
it's like they were still top ten and TV ERA
despite the the struggles. It wasn't the pitching fault. I mean,
obviously Diaz blowing a couple of games. Yes, it's the
red blinking light. But overall they've pitched pretty well. They

just have not scored runs down though Mookie Betts suddenly,
hey he's got he's starting to hit a little bit.

I mean, so we'll keep an eye on this game again,
big game, Brewers, Dodgers. You know, if if edwin DS pitches,
probably not. But this football, this NFL and college football
story has bridged the entire week. It was a big
story on Monday, and it's just a biggest story on Friday,

mainly because nobody is budging from their stances. Right we
open up this week by finding out boy Jade and
Daniels is really upset that LSU, where he won the
Heisman Trophy, is giving his jersey number to another player,
DJ Pickett, who was a really good, uh defensive back
his first year with LSU. He's always wanted number five.
(07:28):
He's worn number five his whole life. He said it
the other day, and Daniels wants a cease and desist.
You can't use my number, can't make any money on
NI l for it, whatever it is. And here we
are on Friday, and Jayden Daniels is still upset and
LSU is still saying, yeah, uh, he's wearing number five.
Lane Kiffin shrugging his shoulders, right, you had uh the
DJ Pickett basically saying, yeah, hey, Jayden was good when

he was here. But that's it. That's that's where I'm at.
I've worn this my whole life. The best part of
this though, now and because we're gonna get to we'll
get to a big part of big take on this
is I kind of love how involved his dad is now.
Right Like his dad gave these quotes yesterday that are
just like these are so LeVar Ball esque quotes that
(08:13):
we just have to talk about it because they're so fun.
So all this controversy goes on, Jayden Daniel says they
can't wear it. DJ Pickett wants to wear it. That
they're going back and forth on it, and this has
become a whole story now because he started wearing it
last week, it practice now becomes a big deal this week,
his dad told The Advocate on Thursday, quote, Honestly, man,
(08:35):
this right here makes us want to wear the number more. Okay,
Lsu has not said anything to us about the number,
about us being able to wear the number. My boy's
been wearing number five his whole life. He's been put
in the middle of something that has nothing to do
with him. So okay, But I love the fact that
here he is throwing us in there. Wait wait us,
(08:58):
I'm pretty sure you're not playing. I think it's your
son who's playing. He's a guy wearing five. But no, no, no,
this is now team DJ Pickett. This right here makes
us want to wear the number more. They've not said
anything to us about the number, about being able to
wear the number us. That's like wow, Like he just
right to that LeVar Ball playbook and said, yep, I mean,
I'm part of this man here. I am anything to us.

It's a US thing. Oh okay, I did when I
saw that, I said, oh, here's a guy saying I
do know how to see his the live light here
a little bit. Yeah, I'll give you some quotes on this. Yeah.
No one said anything to us about the story.

I know it's it's good.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
It's a good evolution of this story that it keeps
giving us more and more. What's great is I found
a clip from a little over a year ago where.

Uh no, yeah, yeah, yeah, which is why you know
Jane Daniels is number five with the Washington Commanders because
a nine year veteran heard the story of Jade and
Daniels saying, get this, wait for it. My pop since
I was a kid, he was number five. So I
wear it for my dad and then I don't know,

same thing are It's always been my favorite number.
Speaker 5 (10:14):
This is what I've always worn. Like you know, you
don't see that the connection here.
Speaker 4 (10:19):
That's the way this generally works with numbers like rare
do you have like my daughter, I think every year
has had a different number going through it and say
all right, whatever. I know you want me to be
what this year? Fine, I don't care.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
But look, this is the thing is that that's where
we're at now. And you've seen the last couple of
days and the general consensus of it's just a number.
What do you care about? Jayde And Daniels isn't even
there anymore? What does he care about his number? Why
does DJ Pickett care so much about you? I get
you wearing your whole life, but what what does it matter?
It's a number? Now? For Daniels, it's more about what
(10:53):
he's feeling is the lack of respect towards him because
they didn't give nine to anybody after Joe Burrow won
the Heisman Trophy, didn't give number twenty to anybody after
Billy Cannon wore it, you know, seventy five years ago.
So I get that Pickett is more. Five is my number.
I want my whole life. And you can say it's
just number, is just a number, but I get it.
There are certain diva esque things in sports that I
(11:16):
can tell you, yeah, I know this is ridiculous, and
other things that you have I will tell you Yep,
you just gotta go along with it. Numbers mean a
big deal to people. It's hard to quantify, but someone
wearing a number that you know, the old Brady papinga
line former linebacker joined us on the show for many years,
would say, look, when you look good, you play good.
If you're happy with your number, whatever puts you in
(11:36):
a great frame of mind to play. People can be
very specific and very very into the number they are
wearing it. I don't mean just from a numerology kind
of thing, where you know, if I wear number seventeen,
that's not the stars don't align for it. No, it's
just hey, five is my number. I wear it. I
feel good about it. I love it. I have a
special relationship. I like seeing that. Whatever it is, that's
(11:58):
something you sort of just have to nod your head
and go okay. Creative types, right, like like when somebody else,
like an actor on a movie set, makes these crazy demands,
you go, well, we're gonna get this big stunt we want.
He's gonna jump over the mountain in a motorcycle, So okay.
If he wants a glass of water at specifically seventy
two degrees, give him a glass of water at seventy
two degrees before he makes this jump on the motorcycle
(12:19):
right or or or in a car whatever it is, like, like,
h and I'm not making a Tom Cruise reference. I
was just pulling that out there. I'm just thinking about
Tom Cruise. As far as I know, he has never
requested a glass of water at seventy two degrees on
a movie set. But like I said, but that's where
you go. You say, Okay, if the guy that's gonna
do this wants a glass of water at seventy two degrees,
get him a glass of water. But that's ridiculous, I know,
(12:40):
but we kind of have to put up with it
because that's part of a part of what goes into
making them who they are. And this is part of
what goes into Jayden Daniels and DJ Pickett because they
care so deeply about their numbers. And uh, and I
get it. I mean, look, I understand. I was never
really specific about my number growth. There were numbers I
liked more than others. And my main numbnumbers were ten
(13:01):
and twenty two. I like that. My daughter Zoe fifteen
in softball and and you know ten in soccer, but
fifteen and softball that was her real number. She loved
for a long time, but it didn't matter. She could
have different numbers, so she were eighteen sixteen. You tell
me your daughter's got a different number every year. Like
some people they don't care, others they care deeply. And
I understand it because that's just part of what goes
(13:22):
along with it. So yeah, I get why this is
a big thing, and I understand why it's not just
let's just get rid of it. It's a number. Why
can't somebody wear a different number? Doesn't work that way. Somebody.
Everybody has their quirks and what they're specific about, and
this is something that is unique or special rather to
a lot of athletes where they have a relationship with
(13:42):
the number that you might not understand. But I sort
of get that this is something you just have to
deal with.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
Well, it's the idiosyncrasies, it's the the traditions, the whatever
whatever else you want to a term you want to
put on it. Right, Guys have their their habits and
the they approach things, and if something gets taken out
of out of order or disrupted, then it throws the
whole day off.
Speaker 5 (14:07):
And people are like that with your every other day jobs.
Whatever you do right.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
If something you're you're late getting in and you walk
into a meeting, you know, five minutes but before, but
you planned on getting in a half hour before. Guess
what it's It's probably gonna affect at least the early
part of your day and maybe make you a little
cross with the people in the meeting. Maybe you're not
as generous to the ideas being proffered. Oh wait, I'm
(14:33):
speaking from experience, but it's it's just that idea, Jason
of you know, all of those things superstitions, uh, the
other word that you can throw in. And the number
is part of the identity too. When we look at
at a football field, when people is like watching number five,
they don't necessarily know who the player is, right, I mean,
and we see that in sports a lot. It's like, oh,
(14:54):
number five, he's really good. Okay, So that's becomes part
of the identity that you have when you have the
level of success that he has. I mean, I understand
it to a point. And if there's agreements with the
former administration again we're talking about Brian Kelly in the
lane Kiffen, I take whatever they were telling me with
a grain of sault. In terms of promises about legacy,

and everything else. But you know this is one that
doesn't look like it's gonna die anytime soon, which is going.

No, no, no, everybody's dug in on it. Now that's
the best part. They're all dug in. We're gonna do this. No,
you want that, you could have that number when you
pry it out of my cold, nil shaking hand.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
Now, two questions, I gonna give it to me. I mean,
you're telling me nobody there was a big fan of
Ed Reed, Brian Dawkins, mel renfro Rendez Barber or Barry
Sanders that wanted to wear twenty. No, I have to
ask that question quite obviously. The other is Zoe soccer
number ten Polisic.

No, she just liked ten.

Okay, she just liked ten.

Fifteen. Fifteen was for Rapino, Like that's the whole Oh
I thought it was the thirty ninth birthday of Tim Tebow. Yeah,
it was for No. Ten she liked honestly because when
she said, she asked me what numbers I wore when
I was a kid, and I said, well, I was
like ten and twenty two five in the beginning. Then
I was ten, and then I like twenty two and
those are one. So she were telling, like, okay, great Danio.

Ten's a pretty good, uh soccer number with a lot
of history on I'm like, okay, that's great. But when
I say why she is she wearing ten, like for
Pele or something. No, she's kind of wearing ten because
she likes the number and I wore it. But fifteen
in softball she wears for Rapino because I'm like, Okay,
that's a number. That's all it is. It's just that's
what That's what she's done. That's the number. Exit out

away people need to understand how to watch preseason football
and what it actually means, and like the ball shouldn't
hit the ground because this is a they're basically elaborate practice, right,

And it's a laborate practice against teams that are playing
guys on defense primarily who a lot of won't be
in the league and those things. And they're also really
vanilla because you're not working on a lot of stuff
that's really really complicated yet with the young guys, you
just want to see how they react. Do they line
up in the right spots, do they react correct with
things like that. So, just like preseason Twiss, it means

something when guys are really really bad or really really good.
If they're really really good, it's like, Okay, they perform
well into the lights for young guys, and that's that's
a good time. If they're really really bad, you get
some serious concerns. Like when yours, you know, of the Dolphins,
that's really concerning. When he's that bad, okay, or Tua

going out and not playing well for Atlanta speaking of
guys who shouldn't be wearing numbers of Atlanta organization. You know, like,
you know, two straight funds playing that poorly for an
established veteran guy. That's not good. Like that's really really
not good. Other than that, you just don't I remember

what a coach wants telling me. It was Mike west
Off after the Dolphins got just slacked in again against
the Falcons, funny funny enough, and the Dolphins just went
up and it was a preseason game. We all kind
of wrote it off and thought, this doesn't mean anything,
and he goes when you're that uncompetitive, You're really that
should be a concern to you. And that was that

was a year of the Dolphins. Like anyway, it went
what none Evan snuck in a playoffs? They you know, eventually,
you know, Sheila got fired after they gave up the
most rushing yards in an NFL playoff game, you know
against Buffalo, some some crazy stab like that. That was
the end of the Shoela era. But those are the

types of things you look for to draw conclusions. Other
than that, again, this is just practice. So like just
I refer to all Alan iverson things. It's just practice.

So you're mostly so you're really concerned about to uh,
You're okay with Mendoza, how the quarterback, you love, how
Drew Aller played. So those guys at the really top
level of playing well or at that bottomlel But would
two be the guy and the Falcons you're most concerned about?
Would that be your number one thing?

That's one of that that jumps off a page. It's
like like, really, this is you know, this is what
you're this is how you're prepping for the season. Like
that's just a really bad indicator to me. I mean, Quinn,
yourer is going one for eight and I saw a
couple I didn't see that entire thing that you know,

a lot of it. Again, the ball just should not
hit the ground in in games like this when you're
an experienced, good quarterback. If you're not experience and not going, okay,
we make some exceptions for you. It's like a couple
of years ago, Trey Lance went into Houston and he

I just remember watching him and like everything was behind guys.
It was hot, you know, it was off target, Like
there wasn't a single really clean throw that he made
and this and I was like, this guy's done, like
he and it was early in prese it was early
in preseason. It might have been the first or second game.
I can't remember, but you know, he went in and

he really stunk it up in this game. I was like,
they're gonna They're gonna let him go, and they did.
You know, they trade him too. I think they traded
him to Dallas if I remember correctly, because he you know,
it was just like it was so bad that so
like this is unplayable. And I know he's still hanging
around right now.

It's just never gonna be good enough. It's sort of like,
when I saw this guy wearing an Anthony Richardson jersey today, was.

thinking about all the different topics. We've had the last
couple of days to talk about all the quarterbacks. It's
fun to talk about Mendoza and Aler and Klubnik and
all this stuff, and you think about what's coming up
this weekend. A story today made me think about how
really this is the first time I can ever remember
(35:21):
not talking about a specific team as much as we have. Okay,
the story today involving the Seahawks decide to sign dB
Terry and Arnold. Remember he's the guy that was let
go by the Lions because he's facing a felony charge
over kidnapping. A lot of bad things that could be
coming his way. We saw this from a couple of
(35:41):
weeks ago. The Lions let him go. He had a
lot of visits, and he agreed to a one year
minimum salary deal with Seattle. Now it's not known when
he's going to come play for the team, but right
now he's facing eight felony charges sending from a kidnapping
and robbery in Tampa, Florida in February. He was arrested
in June turned self in. I mean, look forget about
(36:02):
the part of like what are we doing really? You
know that that he can have a he can have
a free agent tour after this goes on, and he
can still sign. Like with what's going on. But like
when I saw this today, I said, Wow, this is
the first time I think we've said anything about the
Seahawks the entire preseason. I mean from the draft leading
up to now. Like I can't ever remember talking less
(36:26):
about a defending champion in the NFL than about the Seahawks. Well,
and I'm on board with it, right, I'm on board
with it like that. I think in ten years, we're
gonna look back and go, wow, man, remember that outlier
year in the Seahawks one and Darnold won, Like, how
weird was that? Just remember they played the Patriots and
they made it all the way to the Super Bowl.
Out nuts. We're gonna look back and that was the
(36:47):
kind of year and I'm on board with it. But
it really still is shocking. That doesn't matter. There's still
the champs and we're not talking about them. We're talking
about other teams in their division more than we're told.
We're talking about the Cardinals more than we're talking about
the Seattle Seahawks and other teams, and they're just not
part of it. Whether it's still yeah, I so don't
believe in Sam Donald. The guy just won the Super Bowl,
he had two great years in a row. The Seahawks

just won it all. But still there is zero talk,
zero buzz, zero conversation about the defending champions in the NFL.
I have not seen that. I don't know the last
time this has happened.
Speaker 4 (37:21):
No, and that is fair. I mean, you don't have
a lot of big personalities. We do have Hard Knocks
circling in the in the background. We've seen some of
the headlines. I mean Sam Donald talking about Lebron James
going to Philly was the biggest headline to come out.
As I've said, hard Knocks has done.

But you know, just real quickly, in terms of the
signing of this going, oh yeah, we knew him through
the pre draft process and all these people said great
things like he's got a bunch of felony charges hanging
over his head here, he may be a great guy
in the locker room, and on this, on this one
that doesn't concern you, and that you have to make

this this move, and I go, that's how the rich
keep getting richer. Is being bold but I mean, come on,
Sam Darnold, number twenty one on your top one hundred
NFL players, What do you think of that? You got that,
but you don't have those same characters like you had
with the Lege of the Boom. You know, the only
thing I've been asked about with the Seahawks' Jadarian Price

and how high he should go in fantasy drafts now
that he takes over for Kenth Walker the third Yeah,
I mean.

Look, I know that it's not a sexy team. It
wasn't the Chiefs, it wasn't the Patriots with Brady Like
you go down well, I mean, really, you're going back
to like two thousand you go back before then to say, hey,
here's a team we're talking about. Let's going into the
next seas, maybe back back to Tampa in two thousand
and two, Like, are we going back that far?

multi inning role, the high leverage role, because that's really
what Tanner Scott Scott does now for the Dodgers is

he comes in. Hey, if it's the eighth inning, one out,
first and second, that's when Tanner Scott comes in. Sixth inning,
bases loaded, nobody out, Tanner Scott comes in. But you know,
you need some sort of uh of order to things,
and people know where the ninth inning's going to go,
and you know Scott the ninth inning. Sure, why not?
You know, eventually Robuski might be a ninth inning guy
because he's going to hit his innings limit and you

could already see that. Maybe it's affecting him, so maybe
maybe he goes to the bullpen and he's a guy
that closes. Why not, right, I mean, it's you gotta
try something else. Can't just say oh, we have nobody else,
nobody else on the team. You can pitch a ninth inning.

else out there. And I'm not saying go put geeky
Hernandez out there. He'd be the first guy raising his

But we were talking about it with all the struggles, even
the end of last week. Coming out of the weekend,
it's like they were still top ten and TV ERA
despite the the struggles. It wasn't the pitching fault. I mean,
obviously Diaz blowing a couple of games. Yes, it's the
red blinking light. But overall they've pitched pretty well. They

just have not scored runs down though Mookie Betts suddenly,
hey he's got he's starting to hit a little bit.

I mean, so we'll keep an eye on this game again,
big game, Brewers, Dodgers. You know, if if edwin DS pitches,
probably not. But this football, this NFL and college football
story has bridged the entire week. It was a big
story on Monday, and it's just a biggest story on Friday,

mainly because nobody is budging from their stances. Right we
open up this week by finding out boy Jade and
Daniels is really upset that LSU, where he won the
Heisman Trophy, is giving his jersey number to another player,
DJ Pickett, who was a really good, uh defensive back
his first year with LSU. He's always wanted number five.
(07:28):
He's worn number five his whole life. He said it
the other day, and Daniels wants a cease and desist.
You can't use my number, can't make any money on
NI l for it, whatever it is. And here we
are on Friday, and Jayden Daniels is still upset and
LSU is still saying, yeah, uh, he's wearing number five.
Lane Kiffin shrugging his shoulders, right, you had uh the
DJ Pickett basically saying, yeah, hey, Jayden was good when

he was here. But that's it. That's that's where I'm at.
I've worn this my whole life. The best part of
this though, now and because we're gonna get to we'll
get to a big part of big take on this
is I kind of love how involved his dad is now.
Right Like his dad gave these quotes yesterday that are
just like these are so LeVar Ball esque quotes that

we just have to talk about it because they're so fun.
So all this controversy goes on, Jayden Daniel says they
can't wear it. DJ Pickett wants to wear it. That
they're going back and forth on it, and this has
become a whole story now because he started wearing it
last week, it practice now becomes a big deal this week,
his dad told The Advocate on Thursday, quote, Honestly, man,

this right here makes us want to wear the number more. Okay,
Lsu has not said anything to us about the number,
about us being able to wear the number. My boy's
been wearing number five his whole life. He's been put
in the middle of something that has nothing to do
with him. So okay, But I love the fact that
here he is throwing us in there. Wait wait us,

I'm pretty sure you're not playing. I think it's your
son who's playing. He's a guy wearing five. But no, no, no,
this is now team DJ Pickett. This right here makes
us want to wear the number more. They've not said
anything to us about the number, about being able to
wear the number us. That's like wow, Like he just
right to that LeVar Ball playbook and said, yep, I mean,
I'm part of this man here. I am anything to us.

It's a US thing. Oh okay, I did when I
saw that, I said, oh, here's a guy saying I

has had a different number going through it and say
all right, whatever. I know you want me to be
what this year? Fine, I don't care.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
But look, this is the thing is that that's where
we're at now. And you've seen the last couple of
days and the general consensus of it's just a number.
What do you care about? Jayde And Daniels isn't even
there anymore? What does he care about his number? Why
does DJ Pickett care so much about you? I get
you wearing your whole life, but what what does it matter?
It's a number? Now? For Daniels, it's more about what
(10:53):
he's feeling is the lack of respect towards him because
they didn't give nine to anybody after Joe Burrow won
the Heisman Trophy, didn't give number twenty to anybody after
Billy Cannon wore it, you know, seventy five years ago.
So I get that Pickett is more. Five is my number.
I want my whole life. And you can say it's
just number, is just a number, but I get it.
There are certain diva esque things in sports that I
(11:16):
can tell you, yeah, I know this is ridiculous, and
other things that you have I will tell you Yep,
you just gotta go along with it. Numbers mean a
big deal to people. It's hard to quantify, but someone
wearing a number that you know, the old Brady papinga
line former linebacker joined us on the show for many years,
would say, look, when you look good, you play good.
If you're happy with your number, whatever puts you in
(11:36):
a great frame of mind to play. People can be
very specific and very very into the number they are
wearing it. I don't mean just from a numerology kind
of thing, where you know, if I wear number seventeen,
that's not the stars don't align for it. No, it's
just hey, five is my number. I wear it. I
feel good about it. I love it. I have a
special relationship. I like seeing that. Whatever it is, that's
(11:58):
something you sort of just have to nod your head
and go okay. Creative types, right, like like when somebody else,
like an actor on a movie set, makes these crazy demands,
you go, well, we're gonna get this big stunt we want.
He's gonna jump over the mountain in a motorcycle, So okay.
If he wants a glass of water at specifically seventy
two degrees, give him a glass of water at seventy
two degrees before he makes this jump on the motorcycle
(12:19):
right or or or in a car whatever it is, like, like,
h and I'm not making a Tom Cruise reference. I
was just pulling that out there. I'm just thinking about
Tom Cruise. As far as I know, he has never
requested a glass of water at seventy two degrees on
a movie set. But like I said, but that's where
you go. You say, Okay, if the guy that's gonna
do this wants a glass of water at seventy two degrees,
get him a glass of water. But that's ridiculous, I know,
(12:40):
but we kind of have to put up with it
because that's part of a part of what goes into
making them who they are. And this is part of
what goes into Jayden Daniels and DJ Pickett because they
care so deeply about their numbers. And uh, and I
get it. I mean, look, I understand. I was never
really specific about my number growth. There were numbers I
liked more than others. And my main numbnumbers were ten
(13:01):
and twenty two. I like that. My daughter Zoe fifteen
in softball and and you know ten in soccer, but
fifteen and softball that was her real number. She loved
for a long time, but it didn't matter. She could
have different numbers, so she were eighteen sixteen. You tell
me your daughter's got a different number every year. Like
some people they don't care, others they care deeply. And
I understand it because that's just part of what goes
(13:22):
along with it. So yeah, I get why this is
a big thing, and I understand why it's not just
let's just get rid of it. It's a number. Why
can't somebody wear a different number? Doesn't work that way. Somebody.
Everybody has their quirks and what they're specific about, and
this is something that is unique or special rather to
a lot of athletes where they have a relationship with
(13:42):
the number that you might not understand. But I sort
of get that this is something you just have to
deal with.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
Well, it's the idiosyncrasies, it's the the traditions, the whatever
whatever else you want to a term you want to
put on it. Right, Guys have their their habits and
the they approach things, and if something gets taken out
of out of order or disrupted, then it throws the
whole day off.
Speaker 5 (14:07):
And people are like that with your every other day jobs.
Whatever you do right.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
If something you're you're late getting in and you walk
into a meeting, you know, five minutes but before, but
you planned on getting in a half hour before. Guess
what it's It's probably gonna affect at least the early
part of your day and maybe make you a little
cross with the people in the meeting. Maybe you're not
as generous to the ideas being proffered. Oh wait, I'm
(14:33):
speaking from experience, but it's it's just that idea, Jason
of you know, all of those things superstitions, uh, the
other word that you can throw in. And the number
is part of the identity too. When we look at
at a football field, when people is like watching number five,
they don't necessarily know who the player is, right, I mean,
and we see that in sports a lot. It's like, oh,
(14:54):
number five, he's really good. Okay, So that's becomes part
of the identity that you have when you have the
level of success that he has. I mean, I understand
it to a point. And if there's agreements with the
former administration again we're talking about Brian Kelly in the
lane Kiffen, I take whatever they were telling me with
a grain of sault. In terms of promises about legacy,
(15:18):
and everything else. But you know this is one that
doesn't look like it's gonna die anytime soon, which is going.

No, no, no, everybody's dug in on it. Now that's
the best part. They're all dug in. We're gonna do this. No,
you want that, you could have that number when you
pry it out of my cold, nil shaking hand.

Now, two questions, I gonna give it to me. I mean,
you're telling me nobody there was a big fan of
Ed Reed, Brian Dawkins, mel renfro Rendez Barber or Barry
Sanders that wanted to wear twenty. No, I have to
ask that question quite obviously. The other is Zoe soccer

Fifteen. Fifteen was for Rapino, Like that's the whole Oh

she said, she asked me what numbers I wore when
I was a kid, and I said, well, I was
like ten and twenty two five in the beginning. Then
I was ten, and then I like twenty two and
those are one. So she were telling, like, okay, great Danio.

Ten's a pretty good, uh soccer number with a lot
of history on I'm like, okay, that's great. But when
I say why she is she wearing ten, like for

she likes the number and I wore it. But fifteen

that's a number. That's all it is. It's just that's

away people need to understand how to watch preseason football
and what it actually means, and like the ball shouldn't
hit the ground because this is a they're basically elaborate practice, right,

And it's a laborate practice against teams that are playing
guys on defense primarily who a lot of won't be
in the league and those things. And they're also really
vanilla because you're not working on a lot of stuff
that's really really complicated yet with the young guys, you
just want to see how they react. Do they line
up in the right spots, do they react correct with
things like that. So, just like preseason Twiss, it means
(23:42):
something when guys are really really bad or really really good.
If they're really really good, it's like, Okay, they perform
well into the lights for young guys, and that's that's
a good time. If they're really really bad, you get
some serious concerns. Like when yours, you know, of the Dolphins,
that's really concerning. When he's that bad, okay, or Tua
(24:05):
going out and not playing well for Atlanta speaking of
guys who shouldn't be wearing numbers of Atlanta organization. You know, like,
you know, two straight funds playing that poorly for an
established veteran guy. That's not good. Like that's really really
not good. Other than that, you just don't I remember
(24:32):
what a coach wants telling me. It was Mike west
Off after the Dolphins got just slacked in again against
the Falcons, funny funny enough, and the Dolphins just went
up and it was a preseason game. We all kind
of wrote it off and thought, this doesn't mean anything,
and he goes when you're that uncompetitive, You're really that
should be a concern to you. And that was that

was a year of the Dolphins. Like anyway, it went
what none Evan snuck in a playoffs? They you know, eventually,
you know, Sheila got fired after they gave up the
most rushing yards in an NFL playoff game, you know
against Buffalo, some some crazy stab like that. That was
the end of the Shoela era. But those are the

types of things you look for to draw conclusions. Other
than that, again, this is just practice. So like just
I refer to all Alan iverson things. It's just practice.

So you're mostly so you're really concerned about to uh,
You're okay with Mendoza, how the quarterback, you love, how
Drew Aller played. So those guys at the really top
level of playing well or at that bottomlel But would
two be the guy and the Falcons you're most concerned about?
Would that be your number one thing?
Speaker 3 (25:43):
That's one of that that jumps off a page. It's
like like, really, this is you know, this is what
you're this is how you're prepping for the season. Like
that's just a really bad indicator to me. I mean, Quinn,
yourer is going one for eight and I saw a
couple I didn't see that entire thing that you know,

a lot of it. Again, the ball just should not
hit the ground in in games like this when you're
an experienced, good quarterback. If you're not experience and not going, okay,
we make some exceptions for you. It's like a couple
of years ago, Trey Lance went into Houston and he

I just remember watching him and like everything was behind guys.
It was hot, you know, it was off target, Like
there wasn't a single really clean throw that he made
and this and I was like, this guy's done, like
he and it was early in prese it was early
in preseason. It might have been the first or second game.
I can't remember, but you know, he went in and

he really stunk it up in this game. I was like,
they're gonna They're gonna let him go, and they did.
You know, they trade him too. I think they traded
him to Dallas if I remember correctly, because he you know,
it was just like it was so bad that so
like this is unplayable. And I know he's still hanging
around right now.

But.

It's just never gonna be good enough. It's sort of like,
when I saw this guy wearing an Anthony Richardson jersey today, was.

I saw it. I was like, really Anthony Richardson. He goes,

have more guys on defense I can playing.

really this is the first time I can ever remember

not talking about a specific team as much as we have. Okay,
the story today involving the Seahawks decide to sign dB
Terry and Arnold. Remember he's the guy that was let
go by the Lions because he's facing a felony charge
over kidnapping. A lot of bad things that could be
coming his way. We saw this from a couple of
(35:41):
weeks ago. The Lions let him go. He had a
lot of visits, and he agreed to a one year
minimum salary deal with Seattle. Now it's not known when
he's going to come play for the team, but right
now he's facing eight felony charges sending from a kidnapping
and robbery in Tampa, Florida in February. He was arrested
in June turned self in. I mean, look forget about
(36:02):
the part of like what are we doing really? You
know that that he can have a he can have
a free agent tour after this goes on, and he
can still sign. Like with what's going on. But like
when I saw this today, I said, Wow, this is
the first time I think we've said anything about the
Seahawks the entire preseason. I mean from the draft leading
up to now. Like I can't ever remember talking less
(36:26):
about a defending champion in the NFL than about the Seahawks. Well,
and I'm on board with it, right, I'm on board
with it like that. I think in ten years, we're
gonna look back and go, wow, man, remember that outlier
year in the Seahawks one and Darnold won, Like, how
weird was that? Just remember they played the Patriots and
they made it all the way to the Super Bowl.
Out nuts. We're gonna look back and that was the

kind of year and I'm on board with it. But
it really still is shocking. That doesn't matter. There's still
the champs and we're not talking about them. We're talking
about other teams in their division more than we're told.
We're talking about the Cardinals more than we're talking about
the Seattle Seahawks and other teams, and they're just not
part of it. Whether it's still yeah, I so don't

zero buzz, zero conversation about the defending champions in the NFL.
I have not seen that. I don't know the last
time this has happened.

No, and that is fair. I mean, you don't have
a lot of big personalities. We do have Hard Knocks
circling in the in the background. We've seen some of
the headlines. I mean Sam Donald talking about Lebron James
going to Philly was the biggest headline to come out.
As I've said, hard Knocks has done.

But you know, just real quickly, in terms of the
signing of this going, oh yeah, we knew him through
the pre draft process and all these people said great
things like he's got a bunch of felony charges hanging
over his head here, he may be a great guy

this this move, and I go, that's how the rich
keep getting richer. Is being bold but I mean, come on,
Sam Darnold, number twenty one on your top one hundred
NFL players, What do you think of that? You got that,
but you don't have those same characters like you had
with the Lege of the Boom. You know, the only
thing I've been asked about with the Seahawks' Jadarian Price
(38:19):
and how high he should go in fantasy drafts now
that he takes over for Kenth Walker the third Yeah,
I mean.

Look, I know that it's not a sexy team. It
wasn't the Chiefs, it wasn't the Patriots with Brady Like
you go down well, I mean, really, you're going back
to like two thousand you go back before then to say, hey,
here's a team we're talking about. Let's going into the
next seas, maybe back back to Tampa in two thousand
and two, Like, are we going back that far?

I mean, that's really how how buzzless the Seahawks are
despite the I mean, they're almost like one of those
champs from the seventies where hey, they just did everything well.
They ran the football well, their quarterback played better than
we thought, their defense was fantastic, and they won the
Super Bowl like, that's kind of how we're treating the
Seahawks this this summer.
