over of let's go. So let's make that sale and
then if you could flip something for that kind of
return that fast? I mean, come on, two point five billion.
Oh yeah, uh now two different takes on this right

that we you know, we we did we did the
lebron aspect of it last hour and talked about how
really do you think it was like that Mark Walter
bought the Lakers to flip them in a year, Like
it's a house and you got you know, people from
trading spaces are here and they're doing rooms and you time, No,
I got.

Well, I mean there were a lot of promises about
these operational efficiencies and and the word that I hated
most that was used all the time when I was
getting my mba synergy between the Dodgers and their organizational
structure to what the Lakers could become.

Nah, forget it. I'm taking my two point five billion
and I'm going home. Listen, I can't put the wainscoting on,
like wanted, We're gonna have to do something different with
this room. If if we're gonna flip it, we're gonna
have to.

Do or the the tropes, like, look, we had these
plans for the extra development of a training facility, but
like the little old Man and up Carl, he I
want to sell his house. So we're trying to build
around it, but it's not working quite so well.

Hello, my name is Russell. I mean but uh, the
fact that the Lakers are sold for two point five
billion dollars over what they were sold for nine months
ago when Mark Walter bought the team tells you two things.
Number one is again you see all these sports say,
we need a salary cap, We need a salary cap,

we need a salary cap. Your valuations have gone through
the roof just in the last seven or eight years,
the geometric way in which values of franchises are up.
If you really need the money, sell the team. If
you're if you really can't find a way to balance
your budget, you can't find a way to figure things out,
then sell the team, and sell the team and make

a lot of money on it and move out. But
like when you this is why you see all the
owners they want they want to cry that were so poor,
we don't have money. The concessions come in here and
here and here's the parking. No, when you see a
team like the Lakers over the course of the past decade,
went from because when the Clippers were sold, right when
the Clippers were sold, they were sold for two billion
dollars that was like, well, if the number two team

in LA is sold for two billion dollars, Lakers got
to be worth at least four billion. But that's what
jump started everything in sports that got professional football to
LA because finally Roger Goodell in the NFL said, well,
if we could do that, that's gonna be a big
trickle down effect where other teams are gonna be worth
even more money. All the owners said, yes, let's move
these teams. Right, It's okay. The Rams want to go back, Yes,

Chargers want to go Yes, we're gonna do it. But
just think when the Laker. When when the Clippers were
sold two billion dollars, the Lakers probably would have went.
You would have said a four billion, might have said,
ooh that might be a little high. I mean three
and a half four billion. Sure, Now twelve billion, right,
the value has gone up three hundred percent, which is correct, math,

it's gone up three hundred percent. When I could do
like that, you know, man, I could broke your deals.
Now me, I'm a businessman. I make moos. I'm best.
I'm like Betty Murphy, I make moves. I'm a businessman.
I make moos. You No, I could do that, but
you and I, I mean, some of the genesis of
our work here at Fox Sports Radio was the hold
Donald Sterling viv the Steviano chaos, right that happened on

our watch, that started to break and in the ensuing
months we get the Balmber deal and to rewind it,
people thought it was insane. And it's like, how often
does a franchise, even if it's the number two franchise,
even if it's the beleaguered Clippers franchise. How often do
teams in giant media markets become available? How many teams
(04:52):
were spot and sold in the decade prior at all
in the four major sports. It doesn't happen that often.
So to say I'm coming over the top with two
billion dollars, like at the time, we said it made sense,
and that was not the industry consensus.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
Right, it was like, wow, that was a gross overpass.
Like no, no, no, no, no again, remember live entertainment. A guy
who has enough money to eventually build his own spot
to bring in concerts, siphon off all of those other
revenue pieces. It just made sense.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Likewise, when we talk about the buzz, right, my Chicago
beloved Chicago Bears, what do they keep looking now, how
do we get an infusion of cash, How do we
change the metrics of what we've been doing, How do
we get to northwest Indiana as quietly as possible?
Speaker 4 (05:40):
Well that too, but just that idea of the mom
and pop business is great, and the nostalgy of it
is great, but recognizing how much was being left on
the table, and hear what you see that multiplier going through,
go back to when the Dodgers got sold and all
of that math, and you mentioned the NFL coming back in. Yeah,
(06:00):
it's it's it's a much different world just in a decade.
I mean, we saw the Seattle Seahawks sell for nearly
ten billion dollars. Yeah, right, you realize where where the
cash flow goes, and that number just keeps getting higher.
But yeah, crying poor. This is when your players' unions,
your associations have to be that much stronger, which is
(06:22):
why you'd be more fearful of the baseball pending lockout
situation and that the players will have to stand strong
to make sure they get their share of those human moneies.
So the other part of this is the fun part, right,
fun part. This is the fun part of.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
The story because with the Lakers being sold for twelve
point five billion dollars, right, whoah oh, you think about
some of the other teams sold, what their valuations would be.
Doing the mount Rushmore topics is always kind of fun
once in a great while. I mean, not like a
lot of shows that do it all the time. What's
the mount Rushmore of candy? The mount Rushmore of Halloween candy?
What's the mount Rushmore of Easter candy? I shouldn't keep

going to candy. What's the mount Rushmore of Scorsese movies?
Mount Rushmore, mount Rushmore? Hush hey, that's the next month
of Fridays. What are you doing giving it away? You're
supposed to tease that, sure, but if you did the
mount Rushmore of money money, it was like whoa whoa
mount Rushmore rush money. I'm in. You got four spots,
you have four you have four franchises. Who would be

worth the most month?

So we're doing this over over the major four sports?
Is that what we're doing here?
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Well, if you're putting, you're putting the Lakers out there
because they're they're sold for twelve point five billion dollars. Okay,
so you know that's the money. You know, that's the
money if you did the biggest one from each sport
and then you threw in a wild card. Okay, okay,
biggest one from each sport and a wild card. So
in the NBA, I got news for you. It ain't
(07:54):
the Lakers, No, it ain't okay, No, the Knicks would
go for a couple of billion more and maybe three
billion over that. If MSG was included three billion, All
of a sudden, you're getting clased now up to three billions.
The Knicks would go for about fifteen billion easy. And
if Dolan included MSG, I mean twenty billion, right, that

would be so you have. The Knicks are ahead of
the Lakers on that list. In Major League Baseball, the Yankees,
the Yankees would be worth the most. They would go
for about twelve billion, twelve to twelve to fourteen billion, right.
The Dodgers worth a lot of money, we know what
they are, But the Yankees would go for a little
(08:36):
bit more. Yankee Yank because the Yankees, with all of
the agreements they have, the TV the Yankees would get
there would be a bigger bidding war for the yank
mainly because there would be a bigger bidding war for
the Yankees, then there would be for the Dodgers, because
if you're bidding on the Dodge, you're going, I'm on
this team. Yeah, guess what you're gonna be paying? Show
hey a tony tons of money when he's forty five
years old. So there would be a bigger rush because

the Dodgers, they've come up, They've been bought and sold
three times, but they come up again.

I mean Otani Hobert tonight trying to show off for
prospective new owners after the Lakers news earlier today.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
The Yankees would be the number one team in baseball,
the biggest team in the NFL. And this is where
you get to your big money. If Jerry Jones sold
the Dallas Cowboys, Okay, which I want to think eventually
maybe Jerry Jones wants to do that, just because again
(09:31):
he can't count Super Bowls to win, He's got to
count money to win.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
Well.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
He started bringing up the Cuban thing about a week ago,
Mark Cuban and potentially some marriage there.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
Right exactly, So you got to think that at some point,
maybe when he's done, Jerry Jones, I'm selling this team
and I'm setting a record and it's not going to
be broken because this is the Dallas Cowboys. If the
Dallas Cowboys were sold because of the bidding war, and
again it's about how often these teams can open again.
That's why the Yankees would be more than the Dodgers,
(10:02):
because the Yankees have not been opened for fifty years,
the Dodgers three times. They've been bought and sold in
the past in the past twenty years. If Jerry Jones
sold the Cowboys, there would be such a bidding war
for it, it would he They would go for twenty
billion dollar easy, they would get. They would get that
first number would be a two in front of it.
If Jerry Jones decided, I'm selling the Cowboys everything that

went along with it. I'm gonna sell every everything I have,
all my Jerry Bucks go with it, everything else, Cowboy bees,
cowboy bees, go with it, everything, twenty billion dollars for
the Dallas County.

Would this uh take some of the oomph of the
crusade by Jason cole our steam colleague and guest here
he tried on Fox Sports Trader, Would he would he
would lessen his intensity towards d enshrining.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
Yeah, Cowboys players yeah, we're gonnakay take you out. But
but I'm I was sold. Yeah, I know you were sold. Okay,
everybody we sold everything. Hall of Fame has sold everything.

I mean, think about the events you hold there, and
it's one hundred thousand people that party deck.

You can do mass things. I mean, think about to
all of the monster truck rallies you can add on
off days. Yeah, get really inventive as a new owner there.
But yeah, twenty twenty billion, easy Cowboys would be that.
Now you're looking for your wild card, right, what would
your wild card be on that we didn't get to
the NHL yet? Well that's the thing. Yeah, okay, the

Montreal Canadians. It would start with a b, it would
start with a billion. But it's not gonna be that.
It's not gonna be that much, is it? Not the Rangers.
I don't think it's the Rangers. I would think that
the next best team that would come open that would
be the most. Again, you're talking about a bidding war
for this in I think it's coming from football, even

though you know it's it's it's a like the Bulls.
I don't think are going for twelve to fifteen billion, dollars.
But I think it's a it's a fight between the
Rams and the Giants, and I would say the Giants
would get more money simply because again, the Giants are
never up for sale and it's your chance to own
a team that you know, tried and true, like the

Dallas Cowboys is synonymous with the NFL. If the Giants
came up for sale, that would probably get close to
fifteen billion. So I would say they'd be the wild
card team on Mount Mount rushmore of teams that are
worth the most money, Cowboys, Knicks, Yankees, and probably the Giants. Yeah,
I'd ram it all day.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
Yeah, I mean yeah, I mean now we're splitting hairs, right,
We're just talking about mega stadiums and megacities and media markets.
I would think what you have here at so far
my trumpet just based on the extra dates that you
have for all the extra events and the fact that
(12:51):
weather won't dissuade anybody or anything from coming to town
at any point during a year. But yeah, I think
you know, again, we're we're splitting hairs over this one.
And maybe it's just the the SOFI bias of all
the different events that have rolled through here. And I'm
thinking about the human monies that have been trafficked through.

I mean, so I feel pretty good about that list. Yeah,
I feel pretty good that that that's where we're at again.
Could you split hairs between the Giants and the Rams? Yeah,
but I feel like, boy, the chance to own the Giant,
it's about exclusivity. No, that's club that has thirty two people,
and it's like, boy, would you rather own the Giants
or the Ram? Whoa, whoa, whoa why why? I'd rather
own the Giants. But that's it.

I mean, but you have the longevity and the fact
that you do have location, location, location, right, It's not
just another NFL franchise coming up for sale.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
So I I mean, there's your Mount rushmore of my
I love the Mount RUSHMO like that. We just put
nearly one hundred billion dollars of money on there right there.
That's that conversation right there.

So all these guys are there and they're all like

I showed up to work carrying my baseball glove in

are are welcome in terms of your authentic love of
the game. I also it was funny as I was
referencing what my colleague asked me, said, John, we're doing
some social media, would you like to quote your favorite

I've got half of the movie memorized. But I'm wearing
the Doc Graham gear here, so I better I should
do the Doc Graham quote. And so I just started
then doing the his speech to Ray in his office, which,
by the way, I visited his office yesterday, which is
in Galina, Illinois. So the Chisholm, Minnesota stand in. Now

I'm getting into the bit of dreams. I mean, you're
now like, if you watch the movie, you know what
I'm talking about the town of Chisholm, Minnesota, where Moonlight
Graham is from. It's actually Galina, Illinois, where the scenes
were filmed. So naturally, I am such a nerd and
aficionado of this movie that I actually visited the place

where it was filmed, the other place, the one that
was in Illinois. And so I actually sat outside of
Doc Bram's office in Galina, and and so I did
the speech which was and I'll do the abridge version here.
I never got a chance to stare down a big
league picture and just when he goes into his wind up,
wink at him, make him think that you know something

he doesn't. And so I did the whole you know,
the whole thing. So I don't know how it turned out.
We'll see how The old social posting is but a
little bit of a behind the behind the scenes where
basically the question came, John, can you give us one
of your favorite lines. And I basically said, well, which
of the Doc graham favorite lines do you want me
to give? The one about I better get home? Or

Alicia's gonna think I've got a girlfriend, all these different things. Right,
It's this movie. I could talk about it all day,
and so I'm full of nostalgia and passion right now
here in the great state of Iowa.

All right, So I give you a challenge for tomorrow
night's game. Great. I want you to get in my
favorite line from Field of Dreams. Oh tell me, okay,
my favorite because no matter how many times you have
seen this movie, whether it is the twelfth time or
the first time or the fiftieth time, you bust out
belly laughing, I want you to. I want you to say,

so we told him to stick it. I want to
line get to ty Kalbin. None of us can stand
the SLB when he was alive, so he told him
to stick it.

That is such and that that Raleioda laugh. You could see.
It's similar, of course to the I Believe to the
Good Fellows laugh as well, very very similar. Raleioda. What
an amazing, amazing actor. I mean all the lines I
mean and by the way, this is the other thing,
uh act And I did not know this, and this

might be part of my field trip tomorrow, but there
is a a a few blocks of Dubuque where they
didn't actually in this like completely boxed my mind when
I learned this. Is that the the like the whole
scene where he's trying to find where Terrence Man lived,
that was actually all shot in Dubuque and not Boston

where where he finally finds someone. He pays the guy
cash to say, yeah, it's the it's his door. Is
the first one without the chicken in the window? Remember that? Yeah,
So that was actually a couple of blocks that were
that were blocked off in Dubuque, So that that might
be my my road trip tomorrow.

So since we're talking chicken, we're talking bones, we're talking structure,
all of that stuff. Bryce Harper, how concerned are they
about his knee?
Speaker 3 (22:37):
Tell you what? The Phillies do not need this news
right now on Harper, And I think it is concerning.
Still TBD exactly how concerning it is, but I think
they're they're a little worried, and obviously we'll see how
things play out. Tomorrow with the game here in Iowa,
if he might potentially be in the lineup still, but
this is the time of year where we really thought
(22:58):
the Phillies were gonna get going and really maybe catch fire.
They got Luisa Rais, but part of the issue is
how many different players had to move around as a result,
including now Bryce Harper. So this is obviously a concern
for the Phillies. On the flip side, the Twins newly
optimistic that Byron Buxton could be back tomorrow. So wouldn't
(23:22):
it be sort of an interesting dynamic there if Harper
is not available, But Buxton is so staying tuned on that.
But that is certainly one of the many stories we're
watching carefully here as we get ready for the Field
of Dreams game tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
All right, So now two teams that since the deadline
have gotten all sorts of attention for reasons they'd rather not.
We'll start with the Yankees, who, hey, I thought they
had a pretty good deadline. I thought they added what
they needed to add. Obviously it's a big deal waiting
for Aaron Judge to come back. But here they are
now even further back of the Rays, who have been
red hot winning nine in a row. How much trouble
(23:56):
are the Yankees in right now?
Speaker 3 (23:59):
Well, there, to me, I will say that now, I
would never concede it. We're still at a fairly early
stage of the season, at least in terms of deciding races.
But I don't see them winning the American League East.
I mean they are so they're a wild card team,
and that means that they're going to be in a
(24:19):
pretty stressful situation, especially when you consider how well the
Red Sox have played. So they're pitching, I think when
you look at Cam Schlitzer, he might win the cy Young.
They've obviously got freedback, they've got coal, But it seems
to me that their offense still now obviously accepting the
win tonight a nice ten run out burst for the Yankees.
(24:41):
I just don't think that we're seeing enough top to
bottom consistency. And the reasons are pretty clear the Belgier
injury and most importantly the Judge injury. So yes, they
had a pretty productive deadline, but I just I look
at this lineup and I don't see the same depth
as what the Red Sox have, And I don't even
think the same depth of what the Rays have, So
(25:02):
if the Rays have the deepest lineup in the division
and the Red Sox are probably gonna be second, I
put the Yankees third. So they might not only just
be a wild card team, but they might be a
wild card team that opens on the road and has
to deal with either the division rival Red Sox or
one of the hot teams that's coming up now behind
(25:22):
them in the American League wild card standings. These are very,
very concerning times. Indeed, for the New York Yankees.
Speaker 4 (25:28):
Still a lot of handwringing here in Los Angeles, even
though twenty four games over five hundred, best run differential
in all of Major League Baseball. But we know the
offense has added struggles for the Dodgers JP. But they
get Blake Snell back last night, pitches a Jem Lawer
currently winning against Casey Long.
Speaker 1 (25:49):
And the short of it is it just ride it
out and wait till October, or should the Dodgers be
concerned about what's waiting for them come playoff time.
Speaker 3 (25:59):
I'm a little less worried about the Dodgers than I
am worried about the Yankees, and part of this has
to do with the way that I agree Blake Snell
coming back. It's huge, gives the Dodgers a boost. Scooble
will eventually pick it up to where you start winning.
You'll start winning games every time he's going out there,
or something close to it. Obviously, it hasn't necessarily been
(26:20):
the most auspicious beginning for schoobl in a Dodger uniform.
They they don't need they I really believe this. They
don't need Otani to be a starting pitcher for them
to win, for them to win the World Series. They
I believe they have got enough right now with that group.
When you think about Yamamoto, when you think about schoobl
(26:42):
I am a little bit worried about Robleski, But again,
these things are mitigated because the rest of the rotation
is getting a little bit healthier and in the lineup
I am. I asked, I suppose I am a little
bit worried about Kyle Tucker because although he has been
a bit a bit better of late in the last
week or so, but there will be enough run scoring
(27:02):
by this lineup, I believe down the stretch to hold
off the competitors right now in the National League West.
Although I do look at the overall n L playoff pictures,
and the team that concerns me the most from their
standpoint is Chicago. I think the Cubs with that lineup depth.
I also look at the Braves as being a formidable opponent.
All that is. All that's true. The Dodgers, though, I

believe when you talk about that group and the way
that they get smell back and who knows how Otani
will do, it, sounds like there's still some optimism that
he'll be able to get back on the mount of pitch,
even if it's not in a full starting capacity, even
if he's just an opener. I do think he gives
them value in that role. So less worried right now
about the Dodgers than I am worried about the Yankee.

let's understand this is one play in training camp. I'm
pretty sure Jalen Hurts doesn't give a crap, and I'm
pretty sure the Eagles can move past putting out a
video on social media of him throwing an interception in
team drills in training camp. I don't think this is
quite the decline and fall of the Philadelphi Eels. I'm
pretty sure this is a really overrated thing.

that we you know, we we did we did the
lebron aspect of it last hour and talked about how
really do you think it was like that Mark Walter
bought the Lakers to flip them in a year, Like
it's a house and you got you know, people from
trading spaces are here and they're doing rooms and you time, No,
I got.

Well, I mean there were a lot of promises about
these operational efficiencies and and the word that I hated
most that was used all the time when I was
getting my mba synergy between the Dodgers and their organizational
structure to what the Lakers could become.

Nah, forget it. I'm taking my two point five billion
and I'm going home. Listen, I can't put the wainscoting on,
like wanted, We're gonna have to do something different with
this room. If if we're gonna flip it, we're gonna
have to.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
Do or the the tropes, like, look, we had these
plans for the extra development of a training facility, but
like the little old Man and up Carl, he I
want to sell his house. So we're trying to build
around it, but it's not working quite so well.

Hello, my name is Russell. I mean but uh, the
fact that the Lakers are sold for two point five
billion dollars over what they were sold for nine months
ago when Mark Walter bought the team tells you two things.
Number one is again you see all these sports say,
we need a salary cap, We need a salary cap,
(02:41):
we need a salary cap. Your valuations have gone through
the roof just in the last seven or eight years,
the geometric way in which values of franchises are up.
If you really need the money, sell the team. If
you're if you really can't find a way to balance
your budget, you can't find a way to figure things out,
then sell the team, and sell the team and make
(03:02):
a lot of money on it and move out. But
like when you this is why you see all the
owners they want they want to cry that were so poor,
we don't have money. The concessions come in here and
here and here's the parking. No, when you see a
team like the Lakers over the course of the past decade,
went from because when the Clippers were sold, right when
the Clippers were sold, they were sold for two billion
dollars that was like, well, if the number two team
(03:23):
in LA is sold for two billion dollars, Lakers got
to be worth at least four billion. But that's what
jump started everything in sports that got professional football to
LA because finally Roger Goodell in the NFL said, well,
if we could do that, that's gonna be a big
trickle down effect where other teams are gonna be worth
even more money. All the owners said, yes, let's move
these teams. Right, It's okay. The Rams want to go back, Yes,
(03:43):
Chargers want to go Yes, we're gonna do it. But
just think when the Laker. When when the Clippers were
sold two billion dollars, the Lakers probably would have went.
You would have said a four billion, might have said,
ooh that might be a little high. I mean three
and a half four billion. Sure, Now twelve billion, right,
the value has gone up three hundred percent, which is correct, math,
(04:04):
it's gone up three hundred percent. When I could do
like that, you know, man, I could broke your deals.
Now me, I'm a businessman. I make moos. I'm best.
I'm like Betty Murphy, I make moves. I'm a businessman.
I make moos. You No, I could do that, but
you and I, I mean, some of the genesis of
our work here at Fox Sports Radio was the hold
Donald Sterling viv the Steviano chaos, right that happened on
(04:28):
our watch, that started to break and in the ensuing
months we get the Balmber deal and to rewind it,
people thought it was insane. And it's like, how often
does a franchise, even if it's the number two franchise,
even if it's the beleaguered Clippers franchise. How often do
teams in giant media markets become available? How many teams
(04:52):
were spot and sold in the decade prior at all
in the four major sports. It doesn't happen that often.
So to say I'm coming over the top with two
billion dollars, like at the time, we said it made sense,
and that was not the industry consensus.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
Right, it was like, wow, that was a gross overpass.
Like no, no, no, no, no again, remember live entertainment. A guy
who has enough money to eventually build his own spot
to bring in concerts, siphon off all of those other
revenue pieces. It just made sense.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Likewise, when we talk about the buzz, right, my Chicago
beloved Chicago Bears, what do they keep looking now, how
do we get an infusion of cash, How do we
change the metrics of what we've been doing, How do
we get to northwest Indiana as quietly as possible?
Speaker 4 (05:40):
Well that too, but just that idea of the mom
and pop business is great, and the nostalgy of it
is great, but recognizing how much was being left on
the table, and hear what you see that multiplier going through,
go back to when the Dodgers got sold and all
of that math, and you mentioned the NFL coming back in. Yeah,
(06:00):
it's it's it's a much different world just in a decade.
I mean, we saw the Seattle Seahawks sell for nearly
ten billion dollars. Yeah, right, you realize where where the
cash flow goes, and that number just keeps getting higher.
But yeah, crying poor. This is when your players' unions,
your associations have to be that much stronger, which is
(06:22):
why you'd be more fearful of the baseball pending lockout
situation and that the players will have to stand strong
to make sure they get their share of those human moneies.
So the other part of this is the fun part, right,
fun part. This is the fun part of.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
The story because with the Lakers being sold for twelve
point five billion dollars, right, whoah oh, you think about
some of the other teams sold, what their valuations would be.
Doing the mount Rushmore topics is always kind of fun
once in a great while. I mean, not like a
lot of shows that do it all the time. What's
the mount Rushmore of candy? The mount Rushmore of Halloween candy?
What's the mount Rushmore of Easter candy? I shouldn't keep
(07:01):
going to candy. What's the mount Rushmore of Scorsese movies?
Mount Rushmore, mount Rushmore? Hush hey, that's the next month
of Fridays. What are you doing giving it away? You're
supposed to tease that, sure, but if you did the
mount Rushmore of money money, it was like whoa whoa
mount Rushmore rush money. I'm in. You got four spots,
you have four you have four franchises. Who would be
(07:25):
worth the most month?
Speaker 4 (07:27):
So we're doing this over over the major four sports?
Is that what we're doing here?
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Well, if you're putting, you're putting the Lakers out there
because they're they're sold for twelve point five billion dollars. Okay,
so you know that's the money. You know, that's the
money if you did the biggest one from each sport
and then you threw in a wild card. Okay, okay,
biggest one from each sport and a wild card. So
in the NBA, I got news for you. It ain't
(07:54):
the Lakers, No, it ain't okay, No, the Knicks would
go for a couple of billion more and maybe three
billion over that. If MSG was included three billion, All
of a sudden, you're getting clased now up to three billions.
The Knicks would go for about fifteen billion easy. And
if Dolan included MSG, I mean twenty billion, right, that
(08:16):
would be so you have. The Knicks are ahead of
the Lakers on that list. In Major League Baseball, the Yankees,
the Yankees would be worth the most. They would go
for about twelve billion, twelve to twelve to fourteen billion, right.
The Dodgers worth a lot of money, we know what
they are, But the Yankees would go for a little
(08:36):
bit more. Yankee Yank because the Yankees, with all of
the agreements they have, the TV the Yankees would get
there would be a bigger bidding war for the yank
mainly because there would be a bigger bidding war for
the Yankees, then there would be for the Dodgers, because
if you're bidding on the Dodge, you're going, I'm on
this team. Yeah, guess what you're gonna be paying? Show
hey a tony tons of money when he's forty five
years old. So there would be a bigger rush because
(08:58):
the Dodgers, they've come up, They've been bought and sold
three times, but they come up again.
Speaker 4 (09:03):
I mean Otani Hobert tonight trying to show off for
prospective new owners after the Lakers news earlier today.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
The Yankees would be the number one team in baseball,
the biggest team in the NFL. And this is where
you get to your big money. If Jerry Jones sold
the Dallas Cowboys, Okay, which I want to think eventually
maybe Jerry Jones wants to do that, just because again
(09:31):
he can't count Super Bowls to win, He's got to
count money to win.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
Well.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
He started bringing up the Cuban thing about a week ago,
Mark Cuban and potentially some marriage there.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
Right exactly, So you got to think that at some point,
maybe when he's done, Jerry Jones, I'm selling this team
and I'm setting a record and it's not going to
be broken because this is the Dallas Cowboys. If the
Dallas Cowboys were sold because of the bidding war, and
again it's about how often these teams can open again.
That's why the Yankees would be more than the Dodgers,
(10:02):
because the Yankees have not been opened for fifty years,
the Dodgers three times. They've been bought and sold in
the past in the past twenty years. If Jerry Jones
sold the Cowboys, there would be such a bidding war
for it, it would he They would go for twenty
billion dollar easy, they would get. They would get that
first number would be a two in front of it.
If Jerry Jones decided, I'm selling the Cowboys everything that
(10:23):
went along with it. I'm gonna sell every everything I have,
all my Jerry Bucks go with it, everything else, Cowboy bees,
cowboy bees, go with it, everything, twenty billion dollars for
the Dallas County.
Speaker 4 (10:34):
Would this uh take some of the oomph of the
crusade by Jason cole our steam colleague and guest here
he tried on Fox Sports Trader, Would he would he
would lessen his intensity towards d enshrining.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
Yeah, Cowboys players yeah, we're gonnakay take you out. But
but I'm I was sold. Yeah, I know you were sold. Okay,
everybody we sold everything. Hall of Fame has sold everything.

I mean, think about the events you hold there, and
it's one hundred thousand people that party deck.

You can do mass things. I mean, think about to
all of the monster truck rallies you can add on
off days. Yeah, get really inventive as a new owner there.
But yeah, twenty twenty billion, easy Cowboys would be that.
Now you're looking for your wild card, right, what would
your wild card be on that we didn't get to
the NHL yet? Well that's the thing. Yeah, okay, the

Montreal Canadians. It would start with a b, it would
start with a billion. But it's not gonna be that.
It's not gonna be that much, is it? Not the Rangers.
I don't think it's the Rangers. I would think that
the next best team that would come open that would
be the most. Again, you're talking about a bidding war
for this in I think it's coming from football, even

though you know it's it's it's a like the Bulls.
I don't think are going for twelve to fifteen billion, dollars.
But I think it's a it's a fight between the
Rams and the Giants, and I would say the Giants
would get more money simply because again, the Giants are
never up for sale and it's your chance to own
a team that you know, tried and true, like the

Dallas Cowboys is synonymous with the NFL. If the Giants
came up for sale, that would probably get close to
fifteen billion. So I would say they'd be the wild
card team on Mount Mount rushmore of teams that are
worth the most money, Cowboys, Knicks, Yankees, and probably the Giants. Yeah,
I'd ram it all day.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
Yeah, I mean yeah, I mean now we're splitting hairs, right,
We're just talking about mega stadiums and megacities and media markets.
I would think what you have here at so far
my trumpet just based on the extra dates that you
have for all the extra events and the fact that

weather won't dissuade anybody or anything from coming to town
at any point during a year. But yeah, I think
you know, again, we're we're splitting hairs over this one.
And maybe it's just the the SOFI bias of all
the different events that have rolled through here. And I'm
thinking about the human monies that have been trafficked through.

I mean, so I feel pretty good about that list. Yeah,
I feel pretty good that that that's where we're at again.
Could you split hairs between the Giants and the Rams? Yeah,
but I feel like, boy, the chance to own the Giant,
it's about exclusivity. No, that's club that has thirty two people,
and it's like, boy, would you rather own the Giants
or the Ram? Whoa, whoa, whoa why why? I'd rather
own the Giants. But that's it.

I mean, but you have the longevity and the fact
that you do have location, location, location, right, It's not
just another NFL franchise coming up for sale.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
So I I mean, there's your Mount rushmore of my
I love the Mount RUSHMO like that. We just put
nearly one hundred billion dollars of money on there right there.
That's that conversation right there.

toe and it was great because I was there for
the high school All American Game, and all of the

Tory Hunter, Jim tolemy Rick Eckstein, Dougman, Kayevitch, Brad Penny.

So all these guys are there and they're all like
brosni like this is this is quite a get up man.
I mean, like like you were this to work before.
I said, well, it's and granted, this is the other
thing that I brought with me that I never bring
with me to work, and I mean never, and that
is my gloves. My glove in a baseball I brought

to work. So here I am wearing my media credential. Now,
if on any other day of the baseball year, if
I showed up to work carrying my baseball glove in
a ball, Hey guys, I'm going to cover baseball and
I'm I got my glove with me, it would it
would be a little bit a little bit unique, I

on this particular day, on this particular setting, all things
are are welcome in terms of your authentic love of
the game. I also it was funny as I was
referencing what my colleague asked me, said, John, we're doing
some social media, would you like to quote your favorite
line from the movie. And I said, I mean, basically,

I've got half of the movie memorized. But I'm wearing
the Doc Graham gear here, so I better I should
do the Doc Graham quote. And so I just started
then doing the his speech to Ray in his office, which,
by the way, I visited his office yesterday, which is
in Galina, Illinois. So the Chisholm, Minnesota stand in. Now

I'm getting into the bit of dreams. I mean, you're
now like, if you watch the movie, you know what
I'm talking about the town of Chisholm, Minnesota, where Moonlight
Graham is from. It's actually Galina, Illinois, where the scenes
were filmed. So naturally, I am such a nerd and
aficionado of this movie that I actually visited the place

where it was filmed, the other place, the one that
was in Illinois. And so I actually sat outside of
Doc Bram's office in Galina, and and so I did
the speech which was and I'll do the abridge version here.
I never got a chance to stare down a big
league picture and just when he goes into his wind up,
wink at him, make him think that you know something

he doesn't. And so I did the whole you know,
the whole thing. So I don't know how it turned out.
We'll see how The old social posting is but a
little bit of a behind the behind the scenes where
basically the question came, John, can you give us one
of your favorite lines. And I basically said, well, which
of the Doc graham favorite lines do you want me
to give? The one about I better get home? Or

Alicia's gonna think I've got a girlfriend, all these different things. Right,
It's this movie. I could talk about it all day,
and so I'm full of nostalgia and passion right now
here in the great state of Iowa.

All right, So I give you a challenge for tomorrow
night's game. Great. I want you to get in my
favorite line from Field of Dreams. Oh tell me, okay,
my favorite because no matter how many times you have
seen this movie, whether it is the twelfth time or
the first time or the fiftieth time, you bust out
belly laughing, I want you to. I want you to say,

line get to ty Kalbin. None of us can stand
the SLB when he was alive, so he told him

That is such and that that Raleioda laugh. You could see.
It's similar, of course to the I Believe to the

an amazing, amazing actor. I mean all the lines I
mean and by the way, this is the other thing,

might be part of my field trip tomorrow, but there
is a a a few blocks of Dubuque where they
didn't actually in this like completely boxed my mind when
I learned this. Is that the the like the whole
scene where he's trying to find where Terrence Man lived,
that was actually all shot in Dubuque and not Boston

where where he finally finds someone. He pays the guy
cash to say, yeah, it's the it's his door. Is
the first one without the chicken in the window? Remember that? Yeah,
So that was actually a couple of blocks that were
that were blocked off in Dubuque, So that that might
be my my road trip tomorrow.

So since we're talking chicken, we're talking bones, we're talking structure,
all of that stuff. Bryce Harper, how concerned are they
about his knee?
Speaker 3 (22:37):
Tell you what? The Phillies do not need this news
right now on Harper, And I think it is concerning.
Still TBD exactly how concerning it is, but I think
they're they're a little worried, and obviously we'll see how
things play out. Tomorrow with the game here in Iowa,
if he might potentially be in the lineup still, but
this is the time of year where we really thought
(22:58):
the Phillies were gonna get going and really maybe catch fire.
They got Luisa Rais, but part of the issue is
how many different players had to move around as a result,
including now Bryce Harper. So this is obviously a concern
for the Phillies. On the flip side, the Twins newly
optimistic that Byron Buxton could be back tomorrow. So wouldn't
(23:22):
it be sort of an interesting dynamic there if Harper
is not available, But Buxton is so staying tuned on that.
But that is certainly one of the many stories we're
watching carefully here as we get ready for the Field
of Dreams game tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
All right, So now two teams that since the deadline
have gotten all sorts of attention for reasons they'd rather not.
We'll start with the Yankees, who, hey, I thought they
had a pretty good deadline. I thought they added what
they needed to add. Obviously it's a big deal waiting
for Aaron Judge to come back. But here they are
now even further back of the Rays, who have been
red hot winning nine in a row. How much trouble
(23:56):
are the Yankees in right now?
Speaker 3 (23:59):
Well, there, to me, I will say that now, I
would never concede it. We're still at a fairly early
stage of the season, at least in terms of deciding races.
But I don't see them winning the American League East.
I mean they are so they're a wild card team,
and that means that they're going to be in a
(24:19):
pretty stressful situation, especially when you consider how well the
Red Sox have played. So they're pitching, I think when
you look at Cam Schlitzer, he might win the cy Young.
They've obviously got freedback, they've got coal, But it seems
to me that their offense still now obviously accepting the
win tonight a nice ten run out burst for the Yankees.
(24:41):
I just don't think that we're seeing enough top to
bottom consistency. And the reasons are pretty clear the Belgier
injury and most importantly the Judge injury. So yes, they
had a pretty productive deadline, but I just I look
at this lineup and I don't see the same depth
as what the Red Sox have, And I don't even
think the same depth of what the Rays have, So
(25:02):
if the Rays have the deepest lineup in the division
and the Red Sox are probably gonna be second, I
put the Yankees third. So they might not only just
be a wild card team, but they might be a
wild card team that opens on the road and has
to deal with either the division rival Red Sox or
one of the hot teams that's coming up now behind
(25:22):
them in the American League wild card standings. These are very,
very concerning times. Indeed, for the New York Yankees.
Speaker 4 (25:28):
Still a lot of handwringing here in Los Angeles, even
though twenty four games over five hundred, best run differential
in all of Major League Baseball. But we know the
offense has added struggles for the Dodgers JP. But they
get Blake Snell back last night, pitches a Jem Lawer
currently winning against Casey Long.
Speaker 1 (25:49):
And the short of it is it just ride it
out and wait till October, or should the Dodgers be
concerned about what's waiting for them come playoff time.
Speaker 3 (25:59):
I'm a little less worried about the Dodgers than I
am worried about the Yankees, and part of this has
to do with the way that I agree Blake Snell
coming back. It's huge, gives the Dodgers a boost. Scooble
will eventually pick it up to where you start winning.
You'll start winning games every time he's going out there,
or something close to it. Obviously, it hasn't necessarily been
(26:20):
the most auspicious beginning for schoobl in a Dodger uniform.
They they don't need they I really believe this. They
don't need Otani to be a starting pitcher for them
to win, for them to win the World Series. They
I believe they have got enough right now with that group.
When you think about Yamamoto, when you think about schoobl
(26:42):
I am a little bit worried about Robleski, But again,
these things are mitigated because the rest of the rotation
is getting a little bit healthier and in the lineup
I am. I asked, I suppose I am a little
bit worried about Kyle Tucker because although he has been
a bit a bit better of late in the last
week or so, but there will be enough run scoring
(27:02):
by this lineup, I believe down the stretch to hold
off the competitors right now in the National League West.
Although I do look at the overall n L playoff pictures,
and the team that concerns me the most from their
standpoint is Chicago. I think the Cubs with that lineup depth.
I also look at the Braves as being a formidable opponent.
All that is. All that's true. The Dodgers, though, I
(27:25):
believe when you talk about that group and the way
that they get smell back and who knows how Otani
will do, it, sounds like there's still some optimism that
he'll be able to get back on the mount of pitch,
even if it's not in a full starting capacity, even
if he's just an opener. I do think he gives
them value in that role. So less worried right now
about the Dodgers than I am worried about the Yankee.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
Getting set for the field of dream games tomorrow. It
is John Paul Morose. See now I do have because
I spent the last week's thinking, maybe it's unfair to
just give you one option of favorite lines to get
it okay, right, to tell you to stick it. So
I want to give you another option, John Paul, all right,

what's in it for me? And then if someone is
smart enough, they will say, well, so what do you

That's one of the all time best ones. I I
we could do an entire pot podcast just about that
movie and why I will say this. I encourage all
of you out there. Watch the movie again. It's actually
on Netflix this week. Watch it again, because every time
you watch it it hits you differently. You're in a

different phase of your life. Your relationships are different, They've changed.
I get emotional thinking about this and talking about it,
like like I love this movie so much, and I
share it with my family too. Man, Just this is

really realize that we are part of one family that
loves this game and just share it with a sibling.

And and that's out there. And all I saw all

day was, Oh, people are gonna get fired for putting
this out there. How dare you put out Jalen Hurts
throwing an interception on your official Philadelphia Eagles account? Oh
my god, I get that. The Eagles bathe in controversy.
The soap they use is called controversy. That's the soap,
the shampoo, whatever it is, it's all named controversy. But

let's understand this is one play in training camp. I'm
pretty sure Jalen Hurts doesn't give a crap, and I'm
pretty sure the Eagles can move past putting out a
video on social media of him throwing an interception in
team drills in training camp. I don't think this is
quite the decline and fall of the Philadelphi Eels. I'm
pretty sure this is a really overrated thing.

Well, I think ultimately, isn't it Quinyon Mitchell that made
the catch?

Right? Yeah? Kind of a big deal for them. Yeah,
so you know as much as it could be to

see videos like this all the time. I think Jalen
