you're champion Jordan Harper or Jordan Walker. Jordan Harper is
an author book. I was just talking about. Jordan Walker
wins it with a big walk off home run over
Kyle Schwarber down to that final swing. Yeah, come on,

(01:09):
and I'll tell you what to give credit where credits due, right,
people are going to talk about this and what's it
like on Netflix? In this whole thing. They changed the
format this year. Right, there was no time or no out.
You had twenty swings, you had fifteen swings, you had
fifteen swings in the finals. Right, it was all done.
And it was an overdue change because what have we
seen previously in the home runner boy, someone would have

(01:30):
an incredible second round where they hit like twenty nine
home runs. I got nothing left for the third round
and I'm done, Right, You want to build towards a
moment that you know, just like anything, Hey, the end
can be exciting, okay, And it just so happened. It
came down to the final swing for Walker. He needed
to homer in his last tooth, his last two or

(01:53):
three swings, and he did and it was a walk off.
It was exciting, even though Schwarber didn't win. This format
worked well. However, you want to cut it up for
the home run derby format, having it come down to
two players and you get a walk off from one
of them, that's a strict change of this format. You

(02:14):
saw players still that were hitting at a high level.
Light both of them hit, you know, eleven home runs
twelve twel eleven to twelve home runs in the final round,
limiting the swings early, nobody got really tired. You can
see that they were able to have something left for
the end. This new format worked. Yeah, I like that
they get ditched the clock and then you just decide
your pace, how many pitches you're gonna take, does it

(02:35):
gotta be perfect? Whatever, And we watched you know, your
first two hitters, Contreras and Walker to get things started.
They they went at their own pace. It was nearly
eight minutes each that they they swung, and then you
had cag leone and and Murakami that worked at you know,
a much faster pace, which is good for TV, right

(02:57):
keep the line moving. But certainly they got them into
a bit of a funk both that it would have
been fun if maybe they'd stretched it out, paused a second,
maybe took a picture to let the situation and calm down.
That maybe we would have gotten some more juice out
of them. But all in, I mean, we got some
big blasts. We saw home runs launched to the second

(03:18):
and third decks with regularity, and then they still had
plenty of juice at the end. Yeah, I mean look,
you want, you can't control winning. I think if MLB
would say, okay, they could do one thing, they would
have shremer win. But this is as good as you
could hope for.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
Right.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
I mean still, you had Walker down to he was
trailing by three with one swing left. He had to
keep homering, and he did. And it's an awesome ending
for an event that's made to just entertain you and
give you a few minutes here to just watch home
runs and enjoy home runs. It was an awesome thing
that this worked about as perfect as baseball could hope was.

(03:52):
This is gonna be the form and I'm sure for
next year and from now on because everything they hoped
it would do did and I'm sure going in going
well if it can do like we wanted to do
these five things right. We want to keep the players fresh,
want how to come down to a walk off. We
want to make sure we're building towards something. We want
to make sure that the players are hitting a lot
of home runs, that there's nobody that's faltering. If we

(04:13):
get three of those things, we'll be happy. But they
got all of them, like this was a This was
from from the format, from putting on this event. This
was a huge success. Well, and you had Schwarber at
the end, who's been one of the great stories the
last several years. I mean he's in a decade, but
certainly what he put up last year, and in his
home park, you know, he hits as well there as

(04:35):
as anybody in the game does in their their home venue.
And the crowd just absolutely insane throughout this entire process, right,
because while some of these guys, like I mentioned with Kagalon,
he didn't hit a lot of home runs, but every
one of them was just a monster blast where it's like,
all right, crowd is juice, crowd is into it. Unfortunately,

(04:56):
you and I being in the studio, I love being
on the air. I'm gonna to go back and I'm
gonna watch the clips that they had with Bonds and Pools.
Why if they're gonna talk about hitting and talk about
these players now, I want to hear it, right, I mean,
especially Bonds being around the game more. It's fantastic Pool
hosts with the aspirations to do more managing and do

(05:16):
all that going forward. But you look at a guy
like Walker twenty two home run, seventy four RBI and
two ninety four average at the break one of the
game's breakout starts. All right, came on to the scene.
He was one of those prospects that we watched in
the background the last couple of years. But suddenly he's
in the forefront. So his participation. And that's the other
thing is that you got a bunch of players to

(05:39):
participate in this. What's one of the things you cry
about for the NBA every year is like, none of
these guys want to participate in the dunk contest or
the three point shootout. Yeah, you might get one or
two guys, but it's not Star Layden like you had here.
I mean Cavinira and kaman Aro having the year that
he is down in Tampa and what they've begun, and

(06:00):
as we look towards a labor dispute and floors and
spending floors and all of these kinds of things like
raise do it? Okay? Yeah, and so it begets all
these other conversations. But when you can get the stars
to participate, we all win. Now. The other part of
this that was really great was there was no way

(06:22):
you would tune into this if someone didn't really know baseball.
But you just knew geography, and you knew cities, and
he said, I don't know where this is. Where are
they having the home run Derby? Well, when you saw
Ben Rice bat Yankee star Ben Rice, you kind of
knew exactly where the derby was. Let's hear a little
bit of Ben Rice from.

Speaker 4 (06:40):
The New York Yankees with twenty nine homers all the seasons.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Gotta love Philadelphia, Gotta love Philadelphia. Now booing's now a thing.
Yeah you get They've made booing a thing in the
Home Runner. It's good. I'm pretty get the Michael Buffer introduction.
Oh yeah, yeah yeah, and the booze yeah, Lustily, let's
get ready for dingerss right, like I mean you, he
was not just booed. This is like when they introduced

(07:18):
the opposing team at a World Series game. This is
how you get booed, right when they introduced the Knicks
in San Antonio and played the Benny hillsong whenever they
played like that. This is the reaction that Ben Rice
got for a home run derby, not for the World Series,
not a guy that hit four home runs in the
series already against them. That is a home run Derby,

(07:38):
and Ben Rice gets announced they booth. Hell there you
got a little yak Andy Sacks. Yeah, the Spurs whatever
they tried to do that the Knicks did not work.
Now it did two seventy nine, twenty nine home run,
sixty eight RBI for Rice coming in and one of
the big stories would judge out right, he's helped keep
them somewhat afloat and all of this process. But I mean,
he only hit seven home runs, so was he rattled

(08:00):
by the Oh, he's done, He's not He's done, he's done,
He's that's it the second half. Then you just watch.
It's just seven home runs, a bunch of dirt. You know,
Hill hit a buck seventy nine. The Aankors will be
ten games out. Yeah, just watch. Is Aaron Boon's still
gonna keep his job well because he will trade for
Francisco Lindor, so he'll be all said, because you know,
he has been photoshopped into the man in the yellow

(08:21):
hat outfit as if he were managing the bananas. Bananas,
by the way, sent an All Star in Goorge White
Sox White Sox All Star Peters with the cycle and
a big finish to the first half. He's now an
All Star. So with the booing of the players, you
would think, Okay, well that's Philadelphia. They mowed the players Gorge.

(08:42):
You know, it wouldn't just George. Uh, the booze didn't
just and they weren't reserved only for players that Philadelphia
fans hate, which is basically everybody that doesn't wear a
phillip of course. Uh. There was this play, and I
say played during the home run that starting to get
a lot of attention on social media. Staying short compacts,

(09:05):
trying to keep his hands above the ball, really really good.
I think that's the first time he kind of.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
Like it was just labor.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
It wasn't so much he overswung. He was just a
little bit later. But he's kicking the barrel above the ball.
He's doing calm. What Barry Bonds is saying was irrelevant.
It was. It was a kid dropped it, you know,
because the kids are all in the field fielding the
home run. Derby kid dropped it and got booed by
the fan. Kid dropped the ball, not a home just

(09:32):
not a home run, just in the field. No one's
even paying attention around Indian You know, he could have
put my kid out there. He'd have caught that not like,
get this kid off of here. He's terrible. Get this
guy out. He's he could never play for the Phillies.
He's probably he put him in the field for the match.
He could play outfield. One shots, just DH. Now, just
get him over there, get me to New York. They're
gonna trade all their guys away anyway. But I can't

(09:53):
believe it. Booooo boo, like the kid gets booed because
he doesn't catch the ball. Pel La Delphia, pel La Delpiae,
La Delphia. Whenever you feel like you've started to drift
into a hateful state of mind in your respective lives,
and this is for all of you across the country

(10:14):
and the globe listening on the iHeartRadio app, just remember
you don't have as much hate in your heart as
the people of Philadelphia. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, the city
of brotherly love, lauded for all of its treatment of
folks as they came through for the World Cup. And
the positivity now, I mean it was gone. It was

(10:34):
during a Jordan Walker you know, Jordan Walker run, and
the kid comes running in from left field all the
way into centerfield to try to make the play. He
sticks his gloveout doesn't catch it, and that's what the
fans all decide to pull. It's like they were having
flashbacks to some of the fielding efforts of some of
their favorite player. Yeah, I mean really, I mean look,

(10:55):
because he did look like a met player out there.
He did look like Juan Soto this past weekend a
little bit. But still, I mean, still to boo the kid,
I mean, come on, man, I mean really, yeah, no,
it's I mean, it's some next level of hate. But
I mean, if you but if you can let it
out there, I mean, and that kid will probably go
home with a bunch of autograph merch. They'll probably show
them some love. Uh, but just the idea that if

(11:17):
you need that much, and it's part of the bit
to a degree, But there's a lot of anger under that.
Yeah right. It's like the comic always says, like you
might tell a joke and might have a story on stage,
but behind there there's a lot of sadness. Like like
what a lot of anger and sadness that shows up
in that comics word Like do you think Okay, would

(11:37):
Philly fans still boo Let's just say they get all
the kids that are out there, Okay, are all in
Mets jerseys, Sodo lindor all in Mets jerseys, and they
tell them whenever the ball is hit, to you drop it. Now,
would the fans boo? Or would they cheer and laugh?
Because here's all these people in Mets jerseys dropping the ball.

(12:01):
Would they would boo them all?

Speaker 3 (12:02):
You think so?

Speaker 1 (12:03):
Because now they're projecting as if they are one soda
and they are the different members of your beloved Metropolitans.
Is what it would be if we had him in
our field here. You couldn't exactly just like this dropping
all these fly balls like this, either that they put
them all in jerseys and on the back it says Hample,
or just gritty runs around and does something that trips

(12:23):
them with a cane or something, or you know, guy
you're talking, Go get the guy in the Sodo jersey.
What if they all fanatic and and gritty get after it. Okay,
what if they all wore Sodo jerseys and they all
drop the fly balls? Would they still get booed? Well,
it's a major league event. It's not a Philadelphia Phillies event,
but they could It doesn't Phillies are putting all these
kids out. These are all probably local kids, but they're

(12:45):
trying to be nice to the kids, right, Hey for
the bite. I mean you're gonna have to put a
Mets jersey. You put a Mets jersey and drop a
couple of balls. Trust me, fans will love you. They'll
throw money at you. I think they would love that.
I think they would cheer. And they talk about throwing
coin because that would hurt. Oh no, no, I don't
mean in it. No, no, no, I mean you want
to say, hey, you're gonna need some batteries, come over here,

(13:09):
I'm gonna make your rain for you, and then all
of a sudden you get a bunch of one. I
don't mean like they're one of those little guns that
you Yeah, this is flying all over the place. Yeah no, no, no,
I mean like not like I'm gonna throw, you know,
a nickel or dimes or pennies at you and and
and try to injure you. No, I mean like I'll
throw them up like this is really fun, Like watching
all these guys in Sodo jerseys drop fly balls Like

(13:30):
I think that'd be fun for films. This is an
extended version of the old bits that the Million Dollar
Man used to do. If you could dribble that ball
ten times and then the ninth time you would kick
it out. It's like I said ten, you didn't get
to ten. No, And another drop by a kid in
a Sodo jersey, TJ my good. Another drop? Oh, another drop,
another drop by Soto. Another and then they just start

(13:52):
like juxtaposing the play from last weekend with Sodo dropping
the fly ball on the scoreboard. That just keep showing
that over and over it. I mean, that is really
a way to get those Philadelphia fans. I mean, everything
they could want more. I had the greatest time. I
was in the stands. I always watch everybody cheered every
time the Sodo kid dropped the ball, kept making fun
of the Mets, which was fantastic. Oh, it was great.

(14:12):
It was wonderful. It was wonderful. I kind of did that.
I would be fun. I mean, those kids would have
to give up some of those values saying I'll put
on that Mets jersey. Yeah. I mean that's like I
would say, listen, like would you put on a Willingly
put on? But understand this, If I say, okay, put
on a jersey, go out there and try to catch

(14:34):
a major league fly ball. Know that if you drop it,
they're gonna boo you. It's gonna be the worst moment
of your life. But try to go out there catch
a fly ball like a major leaguer. If you miss it,
the fans are gonna cheer and yell and be happy
because you're wearing a Sodo jersey. I think that's a choice.
I think that's a tough choice.

Speaker 3 (14:49):
Man.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
Do I want to try to go be it? Or
do I want to go Hey, I don't want people.
I don't want I don't want fifty thousand people to
boom me. I got algebra tomorrow morning at eight in
the morning. I got, I got summer school, psychological, I
got some kind of college class. I got stuff going
on tomorrow. But that's it. You might crush their souls forever.
You don't know. I got I gotta shift at the
supermarket at nine point thirty. You might screw with their
headspace just by telling them to put on the Mets jersey. No,

(15:14):
not gonna do up. Put something else on, and you
get a jersey to wear on the field. And then
all of a sudden, it's a bunch of Sodo jersey.
We are all one soda. We are all one soda.

(16:56):
get off the air. So congratulations to Jordan Walker. You're
our home run derby champion. As you mentioned a few
minutes ago, his salary this year eight hundred thousand dollars. Yep,
his salary for what he did tonight. Mike Harmon one
million dollars. So not a bad day, not a bad day.
He's also looking over. Hey, you guys gave weather Hold
a lot of money. You guys just gave him one

(17:18):
hundred and twelve million dollars. You can sign me early too.
I'm ready for that now. The funny thing is is, uh,
we mentioned a few minutes ago he had we had
a fun one liner involving Francisco Lindor of the Mets
and Tim Healy, who is a Mets insider for a
long time, put out a big tweet tonight saying that
you'll be surprised at the players the Mets are willing

(17:40):
to move and talk to other teams about going towards
a trade deadline. And when you hear surprising, the top
two names you're gonna hear, obviously are Lindor and Juan Soda. Right,
those are the names you're going to hear. And there
would be no one bigger at the trade deadline than
either of these players. I'm gonna tell you because the
Lindor thing is really surprising, But the Mets have to

(18:05):
look to trade him. I hate to say it, but
this is one of those conversations where both things can
be true. He'd be the best player you could get
the deadline. Yes, he's doing a lot of money, but
yes he can be a Mets legend for being the
player he was the run to the NLCS, the big
home runs in twenty twenty four, but also this year
for whatever reason, maybe him and Soto don't get along,

(18:27):
maybe he misses the guys that got traded, although I
doubt he misses some of them. But for whatever reason,
just watching he looks like he is unplugged. He looked
like he looks like his head and heart aren't into it.
He made an incredibly bad error yesterday, a game ending
double play ball that he biffs, and instead the Mets
lose to the Red Sox. Red Sox finished their trip
nine to zero, first nine and oh roach it for

(18:47):
the Red Sox in like seventy years, whatever it was.
For whatever reason, Lindor just looks like he's not into it.
And if that's the case, it's time to move on.
And and it's it's hard. I can never thought it'd be.
I said, he's gonna be a guy, He's gonna stay
till the end, mister smile, all the stuff he's done.
But this is where both things can be true. You can't, well,
you gotta hold on to a guy. No, you gotta

(19:08):
get rid of him. You can love him for what
he's accomplished so far. You can love him for that.
And the rest of his contract isn't completely It's not
like it's it's it's it's a downar because he's already
gone through a lot of his contract with the Mets.
But both things can be true in that just he's
a different player this year. Again, he just doesn't seem
like he's he's been injured. He doesn't. Maybe he's upset

(19:29):
that Steve Cohen didn't name him the captain when he
said there's never gonna be a captain as far as
I'm running the team, which Steve Cohen sometimes, dude, you
just have to be quiet. But really he's I'm not
gonna be surprised if his name is out there as
the biggest name at the trade deadline is gonna be
Francisco Lindor. Yeah, I mean, you look at it. The
other big question is whether Detroit does something with school

(19:50):
wel But Lindor has the no trade con claus in
his contract and he was asked about it over the
weekend and just gave a terse no comment. So I mean, well, first,
what do you expect him to say? But also no,
But but it also becomes the conversations that need to
be brought up over the course of a long period

(20:10):
of time. You don't want to say I want to stay,
I want to stay here. I love it here, I've
been here for a while, but it's my home. But
but that's just it, right, it is it in the moment,
it becomes the did you catch him when he's at
you know, in his fields about the series that just had.
I mean, you've got your gestation period, a little cooling off, whatever,
but the right recognition of this team's not going anywhere.

(20:32):
You did lose a number of your your key component parts.
The prospects that you thought were going to be or
the team thought we're going to be the guys to
break through have failed at every measure, right, And you
look around and going, all right, these are the best
years of my career in theory, and we're sputtering at best. Yeah,

(20:54):
I mean like every day is a conversation about missteps, mismanagement,
what can you do to augment the team? Yet, well,
you're not gonna be able to spackle this, oh no,
and create anything meaningful. And you're looking over at Philly
and we talked about it in the first hour, right,
You've always they made the move with their manager to

(21:14):
go get Don Mattingly and it's worked. And part of
it you could just say, well, they had the horses
and it was just a matter of them getting out
and running. But for the Mets, you kept Mendoza a
lot longer than you should have, and now it's Stearn's
keeps getting votes of confidence, which nobody buys. No, No,

(21:38):
I mean I really thought he's gonna get a chance
to do it again in the off season. But look,
the Mets are gonna be the team that sells the
most because that's the one thing where at least the
trade deadline is working in their favor. Because all these
other teams you thought are gonna sell. You thought the
Tigers would sell its school ball, the Red Sox would sell. No,
they're all winning. Red Sox finished the first half on
a tear. The Mets have a great chance to say,

(21:58):
come get all our guys, right, come get it. We're
gonna start over again in the offseason, Come get all
our guys. And there's a lot of talent out there.
People go out and get Freddie Peralta. Maybe they'll say, hey,
we'll take a chance on making Bobashett happy. You know,
he seems like he's heating up the last month and
a half. Like of all the teams that you're looking
like they're gonna go through, the Mets roster like, Hey,

(22:19):
like the guy in your fantasy league that's in last place, going, Hey,
I'm ready, I'm I'm trading my guys. Give me some
draft picks for next year. Yeah, I'm gonna go through
that roster and see what I want. I'll dump some
guys off on you. Like, that's what's gonna happen. At
least the Mets have lost the right way where now
they're one of the worst teams, but they have the
most to offer to other teams. But for the deadline,
only team worse than them in the National League you're

(22:40):
Colorado Rockies, who are just a game behind them, And yeah, hey,
we'll got that number one pick. We're gonna get arch Manning.
You just watch next year even We'll get arch Manning,
even with all of this salary. And this is where
we get into the fun part of how you can
grossly mismanage and misappropriate not only yours, but your draft

(23:01):
picks and your prospects failing you, you're two games above
the the Angels and the wind Yeah. The Angel yeah, yeah,
the laughing stock. Yeah. The only thing they've got going
for them is I saw someone posted the Mets are
a laughing stock too. I mean, don't no, no, no, no,
don't sugarcoat that, like, oh, you're you're with the laughing stocks. No,

(23:22):
you're with the laughing stocks because you're a laughing stock.
It's like, it's okay, laughing Stocks over here, Mets, Angels, Rockies,
let's go over here, over here, Royals over here over here.

Speaker 3 (23:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (23:30):
But to a large degree, the Mets have been able
to avoid what really should be a finger pointing session. Yeah.
And part of that is I think the fact that
though the Yankees are sitting there at fifty four and
forty two, they've been seen as grossly underachieving. Sure, let
that sink in for a second, but uge. Yeah, and

(23:50):
Judge hasn't played in six weeks. But there's more heat
on them than the Mets, Like the Mets have just
been cast off. How does it feel that you're you're
a cast and the only point that nationally you get
the derision is us. Well, well, I say I say
this to anybody that says that to me, I go
the knixt one. What's what's your shirt I'm wearing today?
Nixon five, Right, the nixt one. That's what matters. You

(24:12):
can only claim that for the rest of my life,
man long, I have to dine out on this. Are
you kidding?

Speaker 2 (24:19):
Man?

Speaker 1 (24:19):
And I'm like, this is like if if the world
turned into the zombie apocalypse and I'm like the strongest zombie,
I'm going to dine out for a long time because
we had the conversation and the last hour talking about
Austin Reeves, Like, the only other Number two that had
that amount of pressure on him was the guy you
wanted to kill off who started his trading card journey
again today. Yeah, you're got big Bodega. Yeah sure, but
they won. Yeah, so it doesn't matter, Like I said,

(24:41):
like all the fact that the people of New York
to a man wanted to trade him at the Trade
Dead that's okay now in the early part of in
that talk series doesn't matter. You would have driven him,
but it doesn't The other foreign territory doesn't matter. If
we won the title. It's like, boy, how quickly you
forget I'm dining out. I'm like that big strong zombie

(25:02):
the twenty eight years later where I'm just ripping spinal
cords out and Bram just I'm eating out forever on
this man, I'm the biggest strongest zombie in the World
It was a really I'm good man, we're a good
voice of analogy. Yeah, well, I'm just thinking about who's
the big I did a zombie things. Who was the
biggest strong a zombie? Okay, that guy was the biggest
strong a zombie zombie. Sampson. Sampson, my friend. And then
you had six six sixth number of the Beast and

(25:22):
all that did today. So that was a pretty good scene.
I gotta give you that. So I'll tell you watch
Lindor be a big name out there at the dead.
That'd be a fun, fun theoretical exercise. What does that
bring bring you in return? Meanwhile? An exercise that sounds theoretical,
But you know what's happening. You like to say, I
like to say, we like to say we're ahead of
the curve. And it was the very beginning of the

(25:45):
World Cup and we said, okay, one of two things
is gonna happen. This World Cup is such a huge success.
They added teams. This year turned out great, the way
the the the event has been run in the United
States and Canada and Mexico. Said, one of two things
is going to happen next World Cup's can expand teams

(26:05):
or eventually maybe after twenty thirty. It's every three years, right,
why would you have it every four years. You're gonna
have it every three years. It's still a great tournament.
You could still do that. One of those things is happening. Well,
FIFA boss said yesterday we're looking into a sixty four
team World Cup again ahead of the curve. Right, So

(26:26):
first of all, take about United States, Canada, Mexico. This
is not happening without the overwhelming success this has been
both in person for people coming to the World Cup,
for the fan experience, for what they've been able to
get on television, were they able to watch it for
free stream it what. This has been a huge across

(26:47):
the board's success, to the point where Fox is even
doing favors by putting the semi final games on instead
of for us here in the United States, let's put
them on in primetime so we can all see him. No, no, no,
to help the rest of the globe. We got the
game on middle of the day, middle of the week,
like it's English Premier League. Right, We're doing that for everybody, right,
So this has been so thank you glob event, global event,

(27:07):
and they recognized the United States in Canada and Mexico.
We're not going to be playing in these rounds. Yeah,
I mean, the country's doing that for us, but we're
doing that for them. Why should they do it for us?
We're not participating in those times. What I'm saying is
if our team was playing. Let's say our team was playing,
and if we were good in Germany or space, you
think they're doing that for us? Going, Oh, because the

(27:27):
United States is planned, we'll move the tible bit so
everybody can watch it. No, they're saying we're doing it here,
blank U USA. We're doing it for that. It's the
assumption that we're not making those rounds. But what I'm saying,
just if it is, if it happened, they're not doing
that for us, and we're doing it for them. So
it's okay. But there's already been I've already seen the
backlash to it. Oh, sixty four teams, it's watered down.

(27:48):
It's not gonna be the same tournament. Sorry, it's a again.
It's every four years. No team is making a miracle
run through the World Cup to get to the semi finals.
Are the final? What do we see? The top four
teams have gone there and you know what if you
get in and you win your way past Spain and
France and Belgium and England. Yeah, you know you deserve

(28:10):
you deserve to be there, right, Yeah, I don't know.
I feel like so many, so many countries that go, well,
we have a bye basically into the World Cup. So
we want to be able to you know, keep that
sixty four teams is gonna be fine. It's not the
end of the World Cup. It's not. It's not that
we're not cheapening the tournament. You're gonna add teams to
come in. You're gonna make the knockout round a little

(28:32):
bit longer. It's good for the sport. This is how
sports evolve. I know that. And I know that the
in the evolution of sports, the one that evolves the slowest.
You thought baseball evolve slowly. Man, baseball looks like who
boy college football compared to soccer the way they evolvedge
football changed every five minutes, baseball does it. But man,
baseball looks like we're doing something every time you turn

(28:53):
your head compared to soccer. Well, and for all the
laughing at baseball, they were the first to really embrace
the streaming model. Yeah, letting you watch your team if
you were out of market, so you were able to
watch your mets out here. I was able to watch
the White Sox when I was living in upstate New York. Yeah. Look,
the best teams will make it through. They always do. Yes,
you saw the fun stories like a Cape Verde their

(29:14):
fair fun story. They deserved everything they had in this tournament.
They nearly pulled, you know, a big upside off Spain.
They're pulled the upset against Argentina like they were a
great story. They helped. Right. I'm sorry if you want
to buy into the semifinals, but I could just tell
the way the way fans general fans generally talked about
the turnpoil. We're gonna have to play this. We don't
have this path of this path like everybody wants to

(29:36):
buy to get into the semifinals and the finals of
the World Cup. It's not of sports work, right, And
like I said, soccer revolves the slowest out of all
the other sports. You gotta get every you gotta get
all the nations on board to do this. But adding
Team sixty four, it's just gonna be more fun. There
will be more games. The tournament will be a bigger deal.
There's more money to be had, more teams can make it,
more teams can take part in the World Cup. And

(29:58):
again you could you could have put sixty four teams
of this World Cup. We're still coming out with these
four teams we have right now, we're still kind of
you're talking about one more game potentially for some of
the teams. Okay, I don't think that's I don't think
that's suddenly cheapening the sport or ruining the World Cup.
You want to get to sixty four teams, get to
sixty four teams. It will be fine. People will love
it and they will embrace it. They will let it

(30:18):
will be the same World Cup. Yeah, the ruining the
sanctity of the sport thing, you could lose me with that,
right because we had that argument when batting and got reinstated,
and you have the controversy and scanned a lot of that.
But look, if FIFA's been embroiled in so many scandals,
it's got you know, subplots in the Wikipedia page. Don't
forget to go to part two on this other scandal,

(30:41):
and then part three and so on. The only team
that kind of gotta buy is you look at Argentina
twenty eight, twenty fourth, sixty third, sixty seven to twenty
ninths nineteenth. Those are the rankings globally of their opponents
throughout this tournament. But all of that to say, the
amount of money that flows in and we we've talked

(31:01):
about it here for the US and what it's meant
the only the only people that probably won't get to
participate in the same level a future tournament stub Hub,
another class action lawsuit, and some really bad things discovered
in terms of ticket scalping, side gigs and whatever for
their executives. That's that's a whole other mess that that

(31:24):
was the one downside to this tournament where the people
that were having problems getting their tickets seeing them taken
back and resold like that. That's a whole problem you
need to figure out. But all of it for these teams.
I mean, you watched how everybody embraced the United States,
right from Holland on Downey showed up with that beer
drinking raccoon. Yeah that you bought at that place the Galaxy,

(31:48):
No exactly watching I get that arm, but I think
I'll impress this. But no, no, no, no, no, But
I just think there's so much opportunity, and you see
the exposure for the players h and what it's meant
to their personal brands as they go back to their
respective clubs, and I think more games, everybody just wins,

(32:08):
just at every turn. Exit out about a Fresco exit

Speaker 1 (33:03):
Fox Sports Radio, the Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmony. Yeah, well, believe it or not, there's
a great, big conspiracy theory floating around online regarding the
home run derby, which was coming up in a few
I thought you were gonna say, which, Who's gonna lose
their job? Her Jackson? But yeah, look it up, people,

(33:27):
Today was a big day in the NFL, And you say, well, why,
I'm trying to think it was there big news? Dated,
someone signed somewhere. No, was there trade, no DoD something happened.

Speaker 2 (33:35):
No.

Speaker 1 (33:36):
When I got up this morning, and you know, the
first thing I do, I get there, checked the chuck.
The world is still there. Get ready, you know, topics
for the show. We started emailing and stuff and I
saw what I saw Lamar Jackson trending. I'm like, okay,
what happened? And I look and basically all the football
stuff Lamar Jackson was trending. Josh Allison, this is all
middle of the day, and I'm like, what is going

(33:57):
on ESPN put out a of their experts and it
was an aggregate list of the top ten quarterbacks in
the NFL. Their list of the top ten quarterbacks in
the NFL, and apparently there's one person that didn't have
Lamar Jackson their top ten whatever it was. And when
I saw this, you know what my reaction was. My

(34:18):
reaction wasn't oh, okay this because I mean, really, you're
talking about top ten lists of quarterbacks, Like what are
we doing? Really? Like you want to talk top five
quarterbacks in the NFL. Okay, that's a big deal. But
you're talking about you're arguing about who's in the top ten,
where they are in the top ten, who should be
in the top ten that's not in the top ten? Shit,
basically arguing who should be in the top half of
quarterbacks in the NFL. All right, it's a stupid top

(34:40):
ten list for this request is stupid, Right, it's just
done well, but it gets Tungu's wagon.

Speaker 3 (34:45):
No, yeah, right, right.

Speaker 1 (34:47):
But that's the thing is that it's a stupid list.
You're talking about top top ten. You're talking about arguing
over the third in the third of the league, Like
who the best third of the league is like, what
are we doing?

Speaker 3 (34:55):
Right?

Speaker 1 (34:55):
Like, how how deep we go for NBA MVP. Oh,
he's in the top ten for NBMF.

Speaker 3 (35:00):
Couple, what was it?

Speaker 1 (35:01):
It's top three? We go top three for this is
like really top ten list of quarterbacks? Right, that's just stupid.
But what this told me was seeing everybody melting down
on this. This was the official I'm ready for football day.
Like everything else has been fun. The summer's been fun.
We've had the World Cup, right, the baseball seats has
been entertaining, We're here for home Run Derby. All Star

(35:23):
Game is on Tuesday. But all this has been great.
But now I'm officially ready for football. This is the day.
Everything else has been yeah, yeah, well it's coming, it's coming. No,
I'm good. We had the draft, we had many camps.
We're going all right, it's great. And now most teams
are still on vacation for the next couple of weeks.
You know, a couple of weeks people they'll start coming back.
But this is the day I think where fans are

(35:44):
all okay, it hit everybody. Okay, all this stuff has
been great, but this is my I'm ready for football now.
Now I'm ready we still have the World Cup. We
saw the semi final final and that's great. A lot
of stuff to go the next few weeks, obviously, but
this is that day where I think people got up
and said, yeah, you know what, Yeah, now I'm ready
for football. So now I'm missing I'm ready. You got

(36:04):
through another weekend, and maybe your kids are taking some
summer school classes, maybe they're off at camps, whatever the case.
Maybe maybe you stumbled past the news stand or into
a bookstore and started to see all the preview magazines
front and center. Maybe you went to the grocery store
and they have a couple of those in Certainly I've
got a couple on order that should be arriving this week.

(36:26):
Very excited to get into my summer reading. One of
which I need and it's one of my always go
to during the summer. But I need a magnifying glass.
My eyes aren't great and the print's really small. So
you add that together. But I'll go to the top
ten list though, I mean, folks get excitable, right, We
love lists. We don't do a lot of lists here
for obvious purposes point, but it gets people a little

(36:49):
bit excited. Maybe you stand for your quarterback. But it
is better than that topic that they did have on ESPN.
Since you mentioned it was theirs lower third graphic was
whose job is more on the line, Hurts or Jackson.
The answers neither. By the way, the answer is let's
go in to commercial break. Yeah, I mean that's basically
what you were gonna do there. There's no discussing that,

(37:10):
there's no arguing that that's just stupid. Like top ten,
I can only say, okay, back to top ten. We
we might all have differing thoughts of how valuable and
how good some of these quarterbacks are. That other things
just I'm gonna argue from oh, you're nine and you
should be six. Yes, that's not it's just stupid. I
value you my ninth rank guy over your six stupid.

(37:31):
But I like the fact that this was the itch
when Okay, I didn't realize how much I missed it.
And now I'm ready for and now you want to
go start ranking for fantasy purposes. I had enough time
a dynasty draft coming up. I've had a great submit
on vacation or I'm going on vacation. Yeah, I'm ready
for football. Maybe you want to make sure you get
an order in for a jersey so it hits by
opening day. You're not waiting till twenty thirty. Exit up

(37:54):
o ochesca exit swollen dumb again. This is the beginning
of my next gear rollout, Like I'm where they forget
the sleeves Nixon five. No, I cut the sleeves off.
This is because it's made to be as sleeveless. This
is just it spoke to me as a sleeveless T
shirt spoke to me, though, we gonna hit to pull
up bar Nixon five. Let's get something in My arms
look pretty good, you know I am? How good my
triceps look? Come on, man, Coming up next. Conspiracy theory
