six minutes left to go. We just watched Wemby on

the sideline, very emphatic, yelling to his team, exhorting them on.
And I don't know, it's okay. Now, maybe Wenby thinks
they're in trouble.

He's been activated.

I mean, I don't know, Like I mean, after game one,
Wenby said, hey, we got all kinds of time. Everything
is cool. We don't worry about it. We got all
kinds of time. Now maybe there's not time. I mean,
I don't know. I mean, maybe Wemby's just realized, oh
we could go down to is it? But I thought
they had so much time. Well they did it and
then three quarters and three and a half quarters slipped
away like sands in the hour glass, and suddenly that

sense of urgency. But I mean, you look at the
contributions and that pass, that pass leading to the og
dunk cross cord passed by your guy Cat.

Yeah, he has crying over the top like it was
a like he was playing long toss.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Yeah, I mean he he has been the MVP of
the finals so far. We are one game and three quarters,
you know, a little more than three quarters in he
has been the knicks best player. Look, Jalen Brunson had
a terrific fourth quarter. He's been playing very well in
the last few minutes, not turning the ball over, getting
the ball out, not trying to force too many shots,

and getting his guys in position for big buckets. But
Karl Anthony Towns has been doing everything for this team.
Twenty one thirteen and three time out on the floor
right now. A three from the Spurs has cut the
lead to ninety seven eighty eight. But again the Knicks
still with a nine point lead here and six minutes
left to go. A big three by Daron Fox who

comes through. So this is this is it now. This
is where you hitch up your belt and understand, if
you're the Knicks, this is the last great punch the
Spurs are gonna throw and you have to be able
to contain it. This is it now, you know. Now
here we are five and a half to go. It's
everything you can. You know, Steph Castle is gonna be
punching at that ball and not gonna let Jalen Brunson
get anywhere. If you can have your grace under pressure

and hit a couple of shots. Everything's gonna be okay
and you're going back to MSG for a garden party.

But still the Spurs.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
This is a team that relies on energy and big plays,
and it becomes a flowing down the mountain kind of
thing for the Spurs because that's been who they are.
You know, their youth, their energy, their defense, that makes
everything happen. You give them a little bit of runway
here and this can suddenly become a close game, really
really fast. Sixth Man in the Year Caldon Johnson's had
(03:53):
another miserable slog Tonight's sixteen minutes, just three points and Champannee,
who hit a couple of shots early eight points for them.
Pretty fast, he still has eight points. He's played thirty
one minutes. I mean, Kelvin Johnson's had six points in
the first two games so far for the six Man
of the Year. Yeah, I mean the goack go back
to the last series. He showed up in Game seven,
but otherwise was pretty quiet throughout. So yeah, looking to

see some more urgency, right dearon Fox up to eighteen
on the night when min Yama at least taking shots
this second half He's now eight of fifteen for the night,
twenty two points seven boards. But can't say enough about
what Bridges and Shamit and of course Kat, but we
did a lot of superlatives for Cat after game one.

So let's give the others their shine.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Yeah, I mean, look what the Knicks have done tonight
is this is showing you just how well they're playing
and how good of a team they are. It's been
Karl Anthony Towns all night. Carl Anthony Town's goes to
the bench with four fouls. What happens? Mcal Bridges starts
hitting shots, right, a guy that will have a big
game one out of every three games. It just so happens,
this is the game, starts hitting shots. Landry Shaman, who

has been in every other game great player for the Knicks,
tonight another night where he's hitting threes and continuing to
give them the lead and playing crunch minutes like the
Knicks are seeing their support players step up, where the
Spurs are kind of still looking for their guys to
step up, you know, hoping Dearon Fox is going to
carry the ball most of the time the rest of
the way, hoping he's able to be that next guy,
(05:22):
and he and Wemby can be a great one to
two punch here in the final four and a half minutes.
But you've seen the Knick support players play really well.
They just need to close now in the last few
minutes where support players are great and Karl Anthony Towns
has been and Landry Shammitt's been great and mccal bridges
has been great, but this is going to have to
be Jalen Brunson time. Here is the Spurs cut the
(05:43):
lead to five ninety seven to ninety two with four
minutes left. Yeah, he's waiting on that turbo time for
Jalen Brunson. The other thing we haven't mentioned it in
this particular block, Josh Hart sixteen minutes tonight, oh for
four from the field, five boards, for assists, five files
has been played out of sorts and not impacting the
scoring column, and really you watch the defense bogged down
(06:07):
in the minutes he's there right, just seems it's one
of those nights I think would be the easiest way
to categorize it because he never got into a flow, no,
and he's one of those guys where a bad game
from him, I know the next game is going to
be great, right, and he's had a bad night all night.
And it was really punctuated by his flagrant foul in
(06:28):
the first half when a ball was getting kicked out
of bounds and he put his hand out, he hooked
him to trip one of the series going after the ball.
They went and looked at it and then turned it
into a flagrant one. Like you can tell, it's just
not been his night. But that's the thing is where okay,
it's not Josh Hart's knight, but this is where Shanmit's
got thirteen off the bench, or Mitch Robinson comes in
when Karl Anthony Towns is sitting with four fouls and
(06:50):
suddenly he gives you a really good fourteen minutes, right,
even made a couple of free throws.

Tonight, ye Robinson.

Yeah, at one point you had in the first half
when Mitchell Robinson came in and they did hack a Mitch.
They put him on the free throw line three times.
The third time up there, he hit both free throws
and you can see Mitch Johnson telling this guys, don't
follo him anymore, don't tell him anymore, don't follo him.
And he's found the radar and he's now battled up
Jalen Brunson five of eighteen from the floor. But it's

it is that time where we have those grand expectations
of him trying to carry this himself. Yeah, look, the
first two games the Spurs have done a grand for
Jalen Brunson. For a second has as great plaudits as
he has had and as great a player as he is.
The clothes that he had in game one takes away
from the other three and a half quarters where he
has struggled. He struggles when you look with Steph Castle
(07:40):
on him right away, you can tell their strategy the
beginning of the game was we're gonna make Jalen Brunson
work bringing the ball up and Steph Castle is bigger,
he's more athletic and allowing him to get away with
a lot of hand checks. That certainly helps. But you
can see Brunson's had a really bad final so far
and he's one.

You know, that's kind of sad him so far, but
I mean, really like if he can't close at the end,
which is where the Knicks really need to be, and
he's the guy they rely on, Like I could see
the Spurs coming from behind him and making this a
series like this final three and a half minutes has
to be Jalen Brunson time got to be able to
get to get his shot off, and as you say that,
he misses a three to the side of the rim,

Spurs coming back the other way. But it's curious, like
go back to game one, right, he had that thirteen
point close out fourth finishes with thirty on the night,
and if you were just box score reading, you would
have thought both he and web Ben Yama had great games.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
Yeah, oh yeah, yeah.

If you didn't see the field goal in a percentage
and you didn't see some of the possessions that were
quizzical at best, that you would have thought they'd both
just dominated.

But now we got.

Ourselves a game here Smith a fourteen to zho run
by the Spurs. Dylan Harper, who's the guy told you
I was most afraid of on the Spurs was? Dylan
Harper punctuates this run to tie the game at ninety seven.
The Knicks had a steal and Jalen Brunson had his
wide open a three as you could ever expect him
to get, and he missed it and the rebound goes
(09:07):
right down the floor and the Spurs go in for
a bucket, and now it's tied in ninety seven apiece.
The Knicks have not been able to break the seal
the last couple of minutes, and it has been a
big comeback by the Spurs so far. Two and a
half left to go, ninety seven ninety seven the Spurs there.
I mean, look, they I told you you got to
with stand a big punch, and so far their Nicks
(09:27):
are notwithstanding that punch spurt ability fourteen. Oh run, Now
you got a play that looks like it may be challenged.
Here looking for a fall out on an Obi went
up getting banged, banged up a little bit, but it's
off him like if it's just an out of bounds question,
there's no quotes out about it.

Now it looks like he got fired.

If they're looking at this, it looks like the Knicks
will get free throws because he got his arm hit
and that's how the ball got knocked out one out
of bounds. But you know, Tony Brothers, you never know
Tony gets here to know you hate all referees. But no,
but it's look and it's not like the referee. The
officiating tonight has been fine. They've let both sides play, Okay,
(10:08):
I get it. You know Cat's been in foul trouble, Okay,
but you know this is one of those plays where
you see it. He gets hit on the arm and
the ball winds up going out of bounds and og
knocks out of bounds. The foul obviously is gonna predate
the ball going out of bounds. So this should be
three free throws for ogan Unobi. Again they went to commercial.
(10:28):
Look at it right now, So it should be the
knicks on the free throw line coming back from break
should be the knicks of the free throw I was
just gonna make sure you triple under the score. That
one should along the way knicks with a ten point
margin in terms of fast break points. Meanwhile, forty two
to thirty four your points in the paint, as you
would expect a little more from the Spurs in that regard.

Ten extra trips for the Spurs in this one, but
they've missed eight of them. Yeah, they missed eight. They're
eighteen of twenty six. So comes down to the end
of this game. I'm circling that and just pointing that out. Yeah,
it's getting getting your free throw line. It's hard to
look at anybody and say, boy, they've shot well, they've
like it's not been that way. I mean, look, the
games have been close and games have been fun, but

you can't look and say, well, outside of Karl Anthony Towns,
you can't say, boy, this guy's shot great for two games.
This guy hasn't done. But again, you can't ask for
more ninety seven. I mean I want to ask for
I want to win every game by twelve. I mean,
you liked it when they had that fourteen point lead. Ah,
but upon further review, it is a foul. Ogn Nunobi
at the free throw line for three shots with two

thirty seven to go in the fourth quarter to potentially
give the Knicks the lead, put them.

point lead, don't you put that out there? Come on, man,
still two and a half left, saying that I always
said it once. No, you said it once all you
need to say it. That's enough, man, that's enough. O
Gianunobi hits all three free throws, so it's a three
point lead for the Knicks again, two and a half

left to go. Uh, coming down to it, this game
has been an absolute classic so far, the Spurs blowing
a big lead, the Knicks blowing a big league both
teams coming down to it. Wemby's been playing great the
last few minutes. Really, you know, since the time Mallory
started yelling at his team, he has been Hulk wembyb
don't care. Yeah, he has been Hulk Wemby. That that's
(12:45):
been what you what I was afraid of. I said,
as long as you can stop him from being Hulk Wemby,
I think you'll be okay. But he's been Hulk Wemby.
He gets tired fast though. It's like grogu. Yeah he
could use the power, but he gets tired.

The Knicks get the basketball and Brunson is fouled. He's
at the free throw line. He has made the first.
What a meltdown by San Antonio. Wemby's dribbling up and
somehow chucks it up the floor to and he's on
the sideline and he tries to get the ball up
the floor except Castle's not even turned around. He is

not even turned around, and the ball bounces off of him.
Brunson gets it foul at the free throw line. It
is a one oh five, one oh four lead for
the Nicks, seven and a half seconds left to go
on regulation. Jalen Brunston made the first and missed the second.
The Spurs get the ball off the rebound and they
call a time out. So we are coming down to
(16:12):
one play seven and a half seconds left, where somebody's
gonna win this thing or somebody's gonna lose this unbelievable
like we're.

De Seger shot out of his chair of the arms
up guys on the other side of the last What

Cause he get the the rebound from Wemby.

It's like, all right, twelve seconds left, go in, get it,
get a good shot, get that last shot, and instead
he tries to go up to Castle, who turned back.
He'd looked back at him for a second, but then
it turned to start running up the court and he
had him squarely in between the number like.

He he throws it to him and he's not.

It's not like Castle had turned saw Wemby with the
ball and turned back around. It's Castle saw Wenby with
the Webby brings the ball up. Yeah, So I mean
it's like he was just running and had no idea
the ball was coming and Wemby was gonna bring it up.
He was gonna run to a spot going up with
hinds and instead you get the turnover. Brunson hits one
of two free throws. Now we got a a time

out on the court with seven point five remaining. Yeah,
Brunson kind of needed those both those free throws there, Buddy,
kind of needed both of those free throws.

Talk about free throws a lot on this show. Kind
of needed both of them there.

Man, it seems like that's kind of a I'm just saying,
you need punctuation mark there.

I needed for the year. What's his free.

Free throw percent pretty good. Yeah, it's usually like like
like seventy five percent, you know, like that. But man,
I needed both from there. Man really needed both of them.
I I I gotta tell you, that was where when
I thought, Okay, we're gonna get to And now the
Spurs have to decide whether they're going for the tie
or the win. So one o five, one oh four,
seven and a half seconds left to go. H the Spurs,

obviously they could get to the free throw line, potentially
hit one two, potentially tie the game.

Wemby missus go New York, New York. Goat go New York,
New York. Go. Wemby misses a mid range jumper.

Clyde Fraser and John Stark's got their hands in the air,
and the Knicks are up two games to none in
the NBA Finals. Oh give me jay Z and Alicia

The Knicks win it in San Antonio. Wow, I'm shaking.

What made that happen? They show him going back to
the locker room. To your point, when they showed John.

Starks what it is in the hand immediately, do he
just put those fours up like we do going into
the fourth hour of.

He gets a pretty good look again, a little further
off than I want him to be, but Robinson gets
a hand in it in the way and the second
last second reheave after rebound is is short and the
Knicks win. The inbound comes out from Castle to de
Aaron Fox, who controls the ball near the top of

the arc, gets it to Wemby. Wemby a mid range
jumper of fifteen footer and bounces out. The rebound is loose.
The clock hit zero, and now the Knicks go back home.
I can't mike Harmon then my card. I'm gonna watch
the Knicks win the championship.

Square gone. You gotta take one game at a time.

Oh my goodness, you gotta pace yourself. Can't get ahead
of yourself here. It's one point win.

Why doesn't win?

Doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. This might have crushed their souls,
it doesn't matter.

We're two one win closer to going two more thirteen
straight to win these playoffs for the Knicks. Karl Anthony
Towns doing the postgame interview and getting the love he
so richly deserves. But you know, Johnny on the spot,
Jalen Brunson for everything we said about it. Yes, he
missed one of those free throws, but you know what
made the other one margin to victory one one. I mean, really,
(20:21):
we was there when the ball he'd Castle in the back.
That's all that mattered. Yeah, yeah, And really, this is
what it's gonna come down to. And you know all
the different angles we have with this game. The play
of this game happened before Jalen Brunson got to the
free throw line, all right. The Knicks had the ball
with a chance for a two point lead, and the
(20:42):
Spurs would have last possession because there were thirty seconds
left on the clock. When the Knicks had the ball,
Brunson misses a shot, Wemby gets the rebound and dribbling
up court, he tries to pass to Steph Castle, who
is not even facing Wemby. Castle is running up court
because there's ten seconds left and okay, we got to
(21:03):
get up there and get a shot. And for some
reason Wenby decides I'm going to pass the castle and
the ball hits him in the back, hits him in
the numbers, like Wemby, what are you doing? What is
happening Wemby? And so the ball is now loose. Jalen
Brunson picks it up. The Spurs have no choice but
to foul. Brunson gets the line, hits one out of
(21:24):
two and then Wenby misses the shot there from fifteen
feet away. But that is a cataclysmic mistake by Wemby
who brings the ball up.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
It's not like, hey, I need you to come get
the ball.
Speaker 2 (21:34):
We've seen Wenby bring the ball up, see it all
the time. Absolutely. I mean the.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
Spurs are a team and this is where you talk
about youth and inexperience and what can happen. They've never
felt like this series so far. They've been in sync.
They've had runs and spurts. They had a spurt there
midway through the fourth quarter where they came back to
tie the game. But this is one of those grace
under pressure moments in the final ten seconds, Wenby throws
the ball off the back of his teammate. I think
(22:00):
that's one of the great I think that's a great
way to describe these two games, though. I mean, it's
been two games of ridiculous runs, right Nixon Game one,
we saw that a bunch. We saw that tonight, and
then you saw the Spurs battle back from fourteen down
to make it a game, to give themselves a chance.
And then that play man that's on the sports flicks
(22:21):
card man. You want to see all the images of that,
just one of the most improbable circumstances and change of events.
To your point, Wenby brings the ball up all the
time and Jalen Brunson just happens to be there. I
think Cas will look like he wanted to just be
a sprinter and go sprint past Brunson, maybe to get
himself an easy layup or a dunk, and instead he
(22:42):
gets hit in the back. But I mean, but that's
when you when you see the two teams, right. And
we talked coming in when I said why do I
want the Spurs over the Thunder And the one reason
I gave you was because I thought, okay, the Spurs
are going to get tired. Spurs are a tired team.
You can see them.
Speaker 3 (22:59):
They were tired with the the series against Oklahoma City.
Speaker 1 (23:01):
Okay, that's one thing, but the other part was this
is a young team and you could say, you know,
you got to you win when you're young, right, this
is how you get through the big playoffs.
Speaker 3 (23:08):
It's a it's a marathon. You have a young team.
But the pressure.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
I don't think teams and players understand the pressure that
goes from the Conference finals to the NBA Finals. Everybody think, well,
I played big games all the time, big playoff games,
national TV all the time. I get it, I get it.
But that pressure from the conference finals to the NBA
Finals is immense. And the Knicks, even though they haven't
been there, they've been close. Right Whereas if they go
(23:35):
into that series against the Thunder, all of a sudden,
the Knicks look like they're they're the newbies right there. Boy, Hey,
the Thunder just did it all year last year. It's
the same crew, it's the same guys, the same everything. Hey,
this is the Knicks are going to be in a
definite year because they haven't gone through it. But now
you compare them to the Spurs team, and the Knicks
look like the veteran team, and they have made all
the veteran plays. They have made all the you know,
(23:56):
Brunson being Johnny on the spot being able to grab
the ball, and the Spurs Faulum rather than give him
a breakaway path to the who the Spurs youth they
have struggled, and they have struggled with not only what
to do in certain situations, but when it comes down
to the end of the game, it's where do you
want to go with the ball? Right, Wenby? Why did
Wenby want the ball in his hands? Why didn't Wemby
(24:16):
want to take the ball all the way up the court?
No one's stopping to try to foul Wenby in the
back court. Wemby, you could take the ball all the
way up and figure something out. Why is Wenby looking
to pass? But you get a situation where the Spurs
don't have a closer and you get jittery because hey,
you're you're a rhythm team. You play off your defense
and off your energy, and when you're not quite there,
mistakes like this happen. And now you're looking at the
(24:39):
Knicks going home with two games potentially win the NBA Championship,
and we'll look back and say what were the biggest
plays of this series? And right now, the biggest play
is Wemby throwing the ball off of Stephan Castay back.
We almost had two and a half hours here on
a Friday night of how the Knicks gacked away a game,
and instead it's Wemby hitting Steph Castle in the back
(25:02):
and Jalen Brunson, who looked like he was at least
going to challenge when min Yama in the back court,
I just flash in front of him for a second.
Instead he ends up with the steal, and here we
are talking about a two to zero Knicks lead. But yeah,
the point of trying to find that closer, right, Darren
Fox played a much better game in Game two than
he did in most of a disappearing act for Game one.
(25:24):
Once again, Keldon Johnson didn't offer you much sixth Man
of the Year, but really didn't offer you anything offensively
over the course of the night. But for the Knicks,
big spots, big big shots from these secondary players all
having their moments.
Speaker 3 (25:39):
I mean, really, this was.
Speaker 1 (25:41):
An unbelievable end to a game, and how we reacted
in the studio when Wemby threw the ball off of
Steph Castle, was just we all throw arms up, going
did we really just see that? Did he really just
throw the ball off of Steph Castle's back? And not
that they would have gotten a hoop, but you're out
on a fast break and you're getting he's going to
get a play and you have the basketball, so at.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
The very least it's you're getting the last.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
Shot before overtime.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
Right, there's ten seconds left, Wemby's got the ball, Castle's
running up looking like he wants to dust Jalen Brunson.
All right, we're gonna get some action and instead square
in the back. But instead it is again a cataclysmic
mistake for Wemby, who now is going to have to
wear that for however long. Right now, now, if you're
the Spurs, the only silver lining you're taking away from
(26:28):
this is that, well, maybe now we get Hulk Wemby
for the rest of the series because he feels responsible
after throwing the ball off his teammates back. Right, he
made a couple of bad mistakes, couple of bad shots
in the fourth quarter, but he also willed them all
the way back. But that's the thing all right, you
got the good and the bad with the fourth because
he finally got aggressive, finishes the game eleven of twenty
one from the field. He'd only taken four shots in
(26:49):
the first half. We started the show, I went off
on the lack of production, the lack of effort. There's
a viral clip of Barkley saying, you know, I don't
think he's used to getting his ass detly hasn't happened
in a while, right, because you're getting bodied up by
Robinson and Kat. Everybody getting a dunk on right, Og
got one and Cat got one. So those will be
(27:11):
poster dunks and maybe posters for the little boys and
girls of New York City and those folks living in
their parents' basements. But all of them will celebrate it
just the same. But yeah, Wemby did some magnificent things
in the fourth quarter, but still also had two really
curious looks at the basket right, being as far out
(27:31):
as he was, and he'd found the stroke a little
bit from mid and deep late, but that the decision.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
To try to pass the ball to Castle there.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
I can't wait for the post game.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
Now, look what you ad because you want to get
into And that's what I mean when I say young
teams not being ready for the moment. Because Wemby didn't
know where the ball should go. Who should have the ball?
Should I have the ball? Steph Castle should have the ball.
He's the point guard. But there's ten seconds to go
and you're dribbling up court and I'm throwing the ball
because I'm nervous, and I throw the ball to with
(28:05):
teammates back like that. Again, this is a young team
that is not ready to handle the pressure moments at
the end of games. The Knicks have been there closest
to anybody. Look, they have the pressure of conference finals
and big games and their veterans and Brunton's been around
a while, and so is Karl Anthony Towns, so is
hard so is Anunobi. The Knicks understand the moment. And
(28:25):
I know the Knicks understand the moment because they've closed
these first two games as well as you possibly could.
The Spurs don't get the moment because that's a pass
you make when you are unsure of what to do
with the basketball. You're unsure of what the final moment
should be. Because if you're the Spurs and you're saying,
we have the ball with ten seconds left in a
tie game. What do we do? Is it to Aaron
Fox because he's hot, but you want to give it
(28:46):
to Wemby? But okay, how do we get the ball
to Wemby? Well, Wemby's got the ball in the back court,
but now Wenby didn't want the ball, so I'm gonna
give it to Steph Cassel, who's not even turned around
looking for the ball. Like this is a young team
that completely blew it and mentally, I don't know where
they are at the end of games, and I don't
know that they're ready for the moment, because that should
have been a much easier final possession, or at the
(29:08):
very least, let's get it and call time out. They
could have called time out. We got the rebound, let's
call time out because we have ten seconds. It's not
like to have two seconds. We call time out and
we can None of those things happened. None of those
things happen. So again, I don't know how ready for
the moment the Spurs are. I don't know how ready
Wenby is. I don't know how, but I know the
Knicks are because I watched them make the plays they
(29:29):
need to.

Make to win this game.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
They did let these Spurs back into this one up
fourteen and you saw the big run. But yeah, when
you needed a play, when you needed to stop, you
needed a shot. The Knicks time and again come away
with one, and then they're going to replay that Wenby
tossed to Castle's back a million times. Right. I don't
(29:51):
know what the timeout situation was, but I certainly know
that there was the panic in the eye, right, and
you're trying to get out on the break, and maybe
you're not calling a time out thinking you've got an
advantage Wemby being able to look over the top and
find find someone going up the court. But I also
don't think he expected him to not dribble it up, yeah,
and try to create a play. And you know what
(30:14):
I like the most now now to make it. Then
they get the final shot with a chance to win.
Wemby absolutely flops on this shot. Again, this is a
shot to win the game, and Wemby flops coming down.
The Knicks do the right thing and they don't get
close to him. Well, it was Mitchell Robinson and he
was in his vicinity. He doesn't Yeah, he doesn't get
(30:34):
close to Wemby, and Wemby flops on the final shot. Now, yes,
flopping is a great strategy. You're looking for that, but
you're looking for the flop if hey, there's there's tight
coverage and I'm getting body to body and because there's
there's a big part of me that that gets that
when you go up there and you try to flop
on the way down? Is your follow through where it
(30:56):
should be? Is your confidence where it should be? Where
I'm just shoot and then try to fall to the floor, right, Like,
it's kind of how you look at it when when
you're playing golf, right, there's a school of thought that
when you hit a drive and oh you have a
bad follow through, how much do you really put into
the follow through? Because once you hit the ball, the
ball's gone. So is the follow through a big deal
(31:18):
if you slice it or if you hook it? But
I really you know in the NBA, when when I
see a guy go up for a shot and you're
looking for a flop, I see a guy that is
looking for you got to bail me out. I don't
know that I can make this. And if you're Wemby,
you want to expect to say I have a wide
open fifteen footer, I'm gonna bury it. I'm not touched
the Knicks to even try to get that was a
great space. And that was a great decision by Mitchell
(31:40):
Robinson because he didn't. Yeah, he decided, if you're gonna
take this jumper from fifteen foot, we're going to give
it to you. If you try to get close, then
I then I then I got to do my thing.
But if you take the shot, I'm going to give
it to you. And he wasn't even close, and Wemby
flops falls and the ball is long and the Knicks
wind up.

this positively about in the NBA Finals. Through two games,
your NBA Finals MVP is Carly Anthony Towns and it's

not particularly close. Jalen Brunson had a great fourth quarter
of Game one, and he had a big shot at
the end of the end of the fourth quarter. Tonight
made one of the two free throws to give them
the winning margin. But Cat has been the difference both
offensively and defensively in game won the best game of
his career on both ends of the floor. Cat has
never had a better game. I mean, maybe you want
(34:22):
to show me something. He did great in Minnesota, but
not with those kind of stakes, not on both ends
of the floor. And Tonight twenty one points, thirteen rebounds,
four assists while spending most of the night in foul trouble.
His aggressiveness and his attitude, and his willingness to get
in front of Wembin Yama and stop him or slow
(34:43):
him down as much as he can. Webbin Yama was
a non factor in the first half of this game.

A guy I.

Wanted to drive to the airport a few months ago, Like, Okay, yeah,
you wanted him gone at the trade, I say, cat
and Cat and bridges for your honest But in the
middle of.

But he has been the MVP of the NBA Finals.
I I can't get over how he has been the
one to step up and grab the team by its
throat and say, yes, follow me, whereas they've been following.
Jalen Brunson still following, obviously, But Karl Anthony Towns being
this good, I didn't expect. I expect him to have
his moments, and I knew that him and he was

a bad matchup for Wemby.

We talked about it, the fact that hey, this isn't
gonna be Wemby and chet right, this is this, this
is this galley. And plus you have you have Kat
who's gonna play a little bit further away from the
basket of times. This was a bad matchup. I did
not expect it to be this bad of a matchup,
and it expect him to be the most dominant player
on the floor for the Knicks. Offensively, he's making these
(35:44):
heat check passes, double teamed in the corner and he
and he finds and Hunobi open where I'm like, I
would not have made that pass. But when kat is
making those heat check plays, whether it's a heat check
three or a pass like that across the court, I
know the confidence level he is playing with. I can't
get over how good he has been. I love that
cross courd paths that gave us the o g Onanoma
(36:07):
Nobi slow motion dunk on Victor Webbin Yama. Twenty one
points tonight, eight of twelve from the field, three to
five from three point range, thirteen boards, four assists, just
two turnovers, A plus eleven on the night. He's been magnificent.
Last I saw he's the third favorite for Series MVP,
behind Brunson and Wemby at eleven to one. Got to
(36:29):
imagine we'll see a little bit of shuffling as that goes.
But for Karl Anthony Towns, the reputation was small in
big games when they needed him in Minnesota, right, that.

Was the thing.

Couldn't play defense, wouldn't commit to playing defense, and offensively
would shrink away. We're trading you for Julius Randall, that's
what we think. We're trading you for Julius Randall. Yeah,
whatever it is, we did the You know, he had
some great quotes talking about his late mom, you know,
in the post game of Game one, a little bit
of that tonight. But we're just seeing a different, more

complete player and knowing he's got that physical matchup where
he can dominate in the low post. Right, Cornett can't
stay with him for the minutes that they try to
steal there. Wemby Yama getting pushed around at Mitchell Robinson.
You know, he got a tag team two on one
match there against Wemby. Speaking of Wemby, he has hit

the sideline, very emphatic, yelling to his team, exhorting them on.
And I don't know, it's okay. Now, maybe Wenby thinks
they're in trouble.

I mean, I don't know, Like I mean, after game one,
Wenby said, hey, we got all kinds of time. Everything
is cool. We don't worry about it. We got all
kinds of time. Now maybe there's not time. I mean,
I don't know. I mean, maybe Wemby's just realized, oh
we could go down to is it? But I thought
they had so much time. Well they did it and
then three quarters and three and a half quarters slipped
away like sands in the hour glass, and suddenly that

sense of urgency. But I mean, you look at the
contributions and that pass, that pass leading to the og
dunk cross cord passed by your guy Cat.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
Yeah, he has crying over the top like it was
a like he was playing long toss.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Yeah, I mean he he has been the MVP of
the finals so far. We are one game and three quarters,
you know, a little more than three quarters in he
has been the knicks best player. Look, Jalen Brunson had
a terrific fourth quarter. He's been playing very well in
the last few minutes, not turning the ball over, getting
the ball out, not trying to force too many shots,
(02:41):
and getting his guys in position for big buckets. But
Karl Anthony Towns has been doing everything for this team.
Twenty one thirteen and three time out on the floor
right now. A three from the Spurs has cut the
lead to ninety seven eighty eight. But again the Knicks
still with a nine point lead here and six minutes
left to go. A big three by Daron Fox who
(03:04):
comes through. So this is this is it now. This
is where you hitch up your belt and understand, if
you're the Knicks, this is the last great punch the
Spurs are gonna throw and you have to be able
to contain it. This is it now, you know. Now
here we are five and a half to go. It's
everything you can. You know, Steph Castle is gonna be
punching at that ball and not gonna let Jalen Brunson
get anywhere. If you can have your grace under pressure
(03:26):
and hit a couple of shots. Everything's gonna be okay
and you're going back to MSG for a garden party.

But still the Spurs.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
This is a team that relies on energy and big plays,
and it becomes a flowing down the mountain kind of
thing for the Spurs because that's been who they are.
You know, their youth, their energy, their defense, that makes
everything happen. You give them a little bit of runway
here and this can suddenly become a close game, really
really fast. Sixth Man in the Year Caldon Johnson's had
(03:53):
another miserable slog Tonight's sixteen minutes, just three points and Champannee,
who hit a couple of shots early eight points for them.
Pretty fast, he still has eight points. He's played thirty
one minutes. I mean, Kelvin Johnson's had six points in
the first two games so far for the six Man
of the Year. Yeah, I mean the goack go back
to the last series. He showed up in Game seven,
but otherwise was pretty quiet throughout. So yeah, looking to
(04:16):
see some more urgency, right dearon Fox up to eighteen
on the night when min Yama at least taking shots
this second half He's now eight of fifteen for the night,
twenty two points seven boards. But can't say enough about
what Bridges and Shamit and of course Kat, but we
did a lot of superlatives for Cat after game one.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
So let's give the others their shine.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Yeah, I mean, look what the Knicks have done tonight
is this is showing you just how well they're playing
and how good of a team they are. It's been
Karl Anthony Towns all night. Carl Anthony Town's goes to
the bench with four fouls. What happens? Mcal Bridges starts
hitting shots, right, a guy that will have a big
game one out of every three games. It just so happens,
this is the game, starts hitting shots. Landry Shaman, who
(05:02):
has been in every other game great player for the Knicks,
tonight another night where he's hitting threes and continuing to
give them the lead and playing crunch minutes like the
Knicks are seeing their support players step up, where the
Spurs are kind of still looking for their guys to
step up, you know, hoping Dearon Fox is going to
carry the ball most of the time the rest of
the way, hoping he's able to be that next guy,
(05:22):
and he and Wemby can be a great one to
two punch here in the final four and a half minutes.
But you've seen the Knick support players play really well.
They just need to close now in the last few
minutes where support players are great and Karl Anthony Towns
has been and Landry Shammitt's been great and mccal bridges
has been great, but this is going to have to
be Jalen Brunson time. Here is the Spurs cut the
(05:43):
lead to five ninety seven to ninety two with four
minutes left. Yeah, he's waiting on that turbo time for
Jalen Brunson. The other thing we haven't mentioned it in
this particular block, Josh Hart sixteen minutes tonight, oh for
four from the field, five boards, for assists, five files
has been played out of sorts and not impacting the
scoring column, and really you watch the defense bogged down
(06:07):
in the minutes he's there right, just seems it's one
of those nights I think would be the easiest way
to categorize it because he never got into a flow, no,
and he's one of those guys where a bad game
from him, I know the next game is going to
be great, right, and he's had a bad night all night.
And it was really punctuated by his flagrant foul in
(06:28):
the first half when a ball was getting kicked out
of bounds and he put his hand out, he hooked
him to trip one of the series going after the ball.
They went and looked at it and then turned it
into a flagrant one. Like you can tell, it's just
not been his night. But that's the thing is where okay,
it's not Josh Hart's knight, but this is where Shanmit's
got thirteen off the bench, or Mitch Robinson comes in
when Karl Anthony Towns is sitting with four fouls and
(06:50):
suddenly he gives you a really good fourteen minutes, right,
even made a couple of free throws.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Tonight, ye Robinson.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
Yeah, at one point you had in the first half
when Mitchell Robinson came in and they did hack a Mitch.
They put him on the free throw line three times.
The third time up there, he hit both free throws
and you can see Mitch Johnson telling this guys, don't
follo him anymore, don't tell him anymore, don't follo him.
And he's found the radar and he's now battled up
Jalen Brunson five of eighteen from the floor. But it's
(07:17):
it is that time where we have those grand expectations
of him trying to carry this himself. Yeah, look, the
first two games the Spurs have done a grand for
Jalen Brunson. For a second has as great plaudits as
he has had and as great a player as he is.
The clothes that he had in game one takes away
from the other three and a half quarters where he
has struggled. He struggles when you look with Steph Castle
(07:40):
on him right away, you can tell their strategy the
beginning of the game was we're gonna make Jalen Brunson
work bringing the ball up and Steph Castle is bigger,
he's more athletic and allowing him to get away with
a lot of hand checks. That certainly helps. But you
can see Brunson's had a really bad final so far
and he's one.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
Quarter of clutch quarter.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
You know, that's kind of sad him so far, but
I mean, really like if he can't close at the end,
which is where the Knicks really need to be, and
he's the guy they rely on, Like I could see
the Spurs coming from behind him and making this a
series like this final three and a half minutes has
to be Jalen Brunson time got to be able to
get to get his shot off, and as you say that,
he misses a three to the side of the rim,
(08:20):
Spurs coming back the other way. But it's curious, like
go back to game one, right, he had that thirteen
point close out fourth finishes with thirty on the night,
and if you were just box score reading, you would
have thought both he and web Ben Yama had great games.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
Yeah, oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
If you didn't see the field goal in a percentage
and you didn't see some of the possessions that were
quizzical at best, that you would have thought they'd both
just dominated.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
But now we got.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
Ourselves a game here Smith a fourteen to zho run
by the Spurs. Dylan Harper, who's the guy told you
I was most afraid of on the Spurs was? Dylan
Harper punctuates this run to tie the game at ninety seven.
The Knicks had a steal and Jalen Brunson had his
wide open a three as you could ever expect him
to get, and he missed it and the rebound goes
(09:07):
right down the floor and the Spurs go in for
a bucket, and now it's tied in ninety seven apiece.
The Knicks have not been able to break the seal
the last couple of minutes, and it has been a
big comeback by the Spurs so far. Two and a
half left to go, ninety seven ninety seven the Spurs there.
I mean, look, they I told you you got to
with stand a big punch, and so far their Nicks
(09:27):
are notwithstanding that punch spurt ability fourteen. Oh run, Now
you got a play that looks like it may be challenged.
Here looking for a fall out on an Obi went
up getting banged, banged up a little bit, but it's
off him like if it's just an out of bounds question,
there's no quotes out about it.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Now it looks like he got fired.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
If they're looking at this, it looks like the Knicks
will get free throws because he got his arm hit
and that's how the ball got knocked out one out
of bounds. But you know, Tony Brothers, you never know
Tony gets here to know you hate all referees. But no,
but it's look and it's not like the referee. The
officiating tonight has been fine. They've let both sides play, Okay,
(10:08):
I get it. You know Cat's been in foul trouble, Okay,
but you know this is one of those plays where
you see it. He gets hit on the arm and
the ball winds up going out of bounds and og
knocks out of bounds. The foul obviously is gonna predate
the ball going out of bounds. So this should be
three free throws for ogan Unobi. Again they went to commercial.
(10:28):
Look at it right now, So it should be the
knicks on the free throw line coming back from break
should be the knicks of the free throw I was
just gonna make sure you triple under the score. That
one should along the way knicks with a ten point
margin in terms of fast break points. Meanwhile, forty two
to thirty four your points in the paint, as you
would expect a little more from the Spurs in that regard.

Ten extra trips for the Spurs in this one, but
they've missed eight of them. Yeah, they missed eight. They're
eighteen of twenty six. So comes down to the end
of this game. I'm circling that and just pointing that out. Yeah,
it's getting getting your free throw line. It's hard to
look at anybody and say, boy, they've shot well, they've
like it's not been that way. I mean, look, the
games have been close and games have been fun, but

you can't look and say, well, outside of Karl Anthony Towns,
you can't say, boy, this guy's shot great for two games.
This guy hasn't done. But again, you can't ask for
more ninety seven. I mean I want to ask for
I want to win every game by twelve. I mean,
you liked it when they had that fourteen point lead. Ah,
but upon further review, it is a foul. Ogn Nunobi

left to go. Uh, coming down to it, this game
has been an absolute classic so far, the Spurs blowing
a big lead, the Knicks blowing a big league both
teams coming down to it. Wemby's been playing great the
last few minutes. Really, you know, since the time Mallory
started yelling at his team, he has been Hulk wembyb
don't care. Yeah, he has been Hulk Wemby. That that's

been what you what I was afraid of. I said,
as long as you can stop him from being Hulk Wemby,
I think you'll be okay. But he's been Hulk Wemby.
He gets tired fast though. It's like grogu. Yeah he
could use the power, but he gets tired.

The Knicks get the basketball and Brunson is fouled. He's
at the free throw line. He has made the first.
What a meltdown by San Antonio. Wemby's dribbling up and
somehow chucks it up the floor to and he's on
the sideline and he tries to get the ball up
the floor except Castle's not even turned around. He is

not even turned around, and the ball bounces off of him.
Brunson gets it foul at the free throw line. It
is a one oh five, one oh four lead for
the Nicks, seven and a half seconds left to go
on regulation. Jalen Brunston made the first and missed the second.
The Spurs get the ball off the rebound and they
call a time out. So we are coming down to

one play seven and a half seconds left, where somebody's
gonna win this thing or somebody's gonna lose this unbelievable
like we're.

he tries to go up to Castle, who turned back.

It's not like Castle had turned saw Wemby with the
ball and turned back around. It's Castle saw Wenby with
the Webby brings the ball up. Yeah, So I mean
it's like he was just running and had no idea
the ball was coming and Wemby was gonna bring it up.
He was gonna run to a spot going up with
hinds and instead you get the turnover. Brunson hits one
of two free throws. Now we got a a time

out on the court with seven point five remaining. Yeah,
Brunson kind of needed those both those free throws there, Buddy,
kind of needed both of those free throws.

Talk about free throws a lot on this show. Kind
of needed both of them there.

Man, it seems like that's kind of a I'm just saying,

obviously they could get to the free throw line, potentially
hit one two, potentially tie the game.

the fourth hour of.

He gets a pretty good look again, a little further
off than I want him to be, but Robinson gets
a hand in it in the way and the second
last second reheave after rebound is is short and the
Knicks win. The inbound comes out from Castle to de
Aaron Fox, who controls the ball near the top of

the arc, gets it to Wemby. Wemby a mid range
jumper of fifteen footer and bounces out. The rebound is loose.
The clock hit zero, and now the Knicks go back home.
I can't mike Harmon then my card. I'm gonna watch
the Knicks win the championship.

Square gone. You gotta take one game at a time.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
Oh my goodness, you gotta pace yourself. Can't get ahead
of yourself here. It's one point win.

Why doesn't win?

Doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. This might have crushed their souls,
it doesn't matter.

We're two one win closer to going two more thirteen
straight to win these playoffs for the Knicks. Karl Anthony
Towns doing the postgame interview and getting the love he
so richly deserves. But you know, Johnny on the spot,
Jalen Brunson for everything we said about it. Yes, he
missed one of those free throws, but you know what
made the other one margin to victory one one. I mean, really,
(20:21):
we was there when the ball he'd Castle in the back.
That's all that mattered. Yeah, yeah, And really, this is
what it's gonna come down to. And you know all
the different angles we have with this game. The play
of this game happened before Jalen Brunson got to the
free throw line, all right. The Knicks had the ball
with a chance for a two point lead, and the
(20:42):
Spurs would have last possession because there were thirty seconds
left on the clock. When the Knicks had the ball,
Brunson misses a shot, Wemby gets the rebound and dribbling
up court, he tries to pass to Steph Castle, who
is not even facing Wemby. Castle is running up court
because there's ten seconds left and okay, we got to
(21:03):
get up there and get a shot. And for some
reason Wenby decides I'm going to pass the castle and
the ball hits him in the back, hits him in
the numbers, like Wemby, what are you doing? What is
happening Wemby? And so the ball is now loose. Jalen
Brunson picks it up. The Spurs have no choice but
to foul. Brunson gets the line, hits one out of
(21:24):
two and then Wenby misses the shot there from fifteen
feet away. But that is a cataclysmic mistake by Wemby
who brings the ball up.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
It's not like, hey, I need you to come get
the ball.
Speaker 2 (21:34):
We've seen Wenby bring the ball up, see it all
the time. Absolutely. I mean the.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
Spurs are a team and this is where you talk
about youth and inexperience and what can happen. They've never
felt like this series so far. They've been in sync.
They've had runs and spurts. They had a spurt there
midway through the fourth quarter where they came back to
tie the game. But this is one of those grace
under pressure moments in the final ten seconds, Wenby throws
the ball off the back of his teammate. I think
(22:00):
that's one of the great I think that's a great
way to describe these two games, though. I mean, it's
been two games of ridiculous runs, right Nixon Game one,
we saw that a bunch. We saw that tonight, and
then you saw the Spurs battle back from fourteen down
to make it a game, to give themselves a chance.
And then that play man that's on the sports flicks
(22:21):
card man. You want to see all the images of that,
just one of the most improbable circumstances and change of events.
To your point, Wenby brings the ball up all the
time and Jalen Brunson just happens to be there. I
think Cas will look like he wanted to just be
a sprinter and go sprint past Brunson, maybe to get
himself an easy layup or a dunk, and instead he
(22:42):
gets hit in the back. But I mean, but that's
when you when you see the two teams, right. And
we talked coming in when I said why do I
want the Spurs over the Thunder And the one reason
I gave you was because I thought, okay, the Spurs
are going to get tired. Spurs are a tired team.
You can see them.
Speaker 3 (22:59):
They were tired with the the series against Oklahoma City.
Speaker 1 (23:01):
Okay, that's one thing, but the other part was this
is a young team and you could say, you know,
you got to you win when you're young, right, this
is how you get through the big playoffs.
Speaker 3 (23:08):
It's a it's a marathon. You have a young team.
But the pressure.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
I don't think teams and players understand the pressure that
goes from the Conference finals to the NBA Finals. Everybody think, well,
I played big games all the time, big playoff games,
national TV all the time. I get it, I get it.
But that pressure from the conference finals to the NBA
Finals is immense. And the Knicks, even though they haven't
been there, they've been close. Right Whereas if they go
(23:35):
into that series against the Thunder, all of a sudden,
the Knicks look like they're they're the newbies right there. Boy, Hey,
the Thunder just did it all year last year. It's
the same crew, it's the same guys, the same everything. Hey,
this is the Knicks are going to be in a
definite year because they haven't gone through it. But now
you compare them to the Spurs team, and the Knicks
look like the veteran team, and they have made all
the veteran plays. They have made all the you know,
(23:56):
Brunson being Johnny on the spot being able to grab
the ball, and the Spurs Faulum rather than give him
a breakaway path to the who the Spurs youth they
have struggled, and they have struggled with not only what
to do in certain situations, but when it comes down
to the end of the game, it's where do you
want to go with the ball? Right, Wenby? Why did
Wenby want the ball in his hands? Why didn't Wemby
(24:16):
want to take the ball all the way up the court?
No one's stopping to try to foul Wenby in the
back court. Wemby, you could take the ball all the
way up and figure something out. Why is Wenby looking
to pass? But you get a situation where the Spurs
don't have a closer and you get jittery because hey,
you're you're a rhythm team. You play off your defense
and off your energy, and when you're not quite there,
mistakes like this happen. And now you're looking at the
(24:39):
Knicks going home with two games potentially win the NBA Championship,
and we'll look back and say what were the biggest
plays of this series? And right now, the biggest play
is Wemby throwing the ball off of Stephan Castay back.
We almost had two and a half hours here on
a Friday night of how the Knicks gacked away a game,
and instead it's Wemby hitting Steph Castle in the back
(25:02):
and Jalen Brunson, who looked like he was at least
going to challenge when min Yama in the back court,
I just flash in front of him for a second.
Instead he ends up with the steal, and here we
are talking about a two to zero Knicks lead. But yeah,
the point of trying to find that closer, right, Darren
Fox played a much better game in Game two than
he did in most of a disappearing act for Game one.
(25:24):
Once again, Keldon Johnson didn't offer you much sixth Man
of the Year, but really didn't offer you anything offensively
over the course of the night. But for the Knicks,
big spots, big big shots from these secondary players all
having their moments.
Speaker 3 (25:39):
I mean, really, this was.
Speaker 1 (25:41):
An unbelievable end to a game, and how we reacted
in the studio when Wemby threw the ball off of
Steph Castle, was just we all throw arms up, going
did we really just see that? Did he really just
throw the ball off of Steph Castle's back? And not
that they would have gotten a hoop, but you're out
on a fast break and you're getting he's going to
get a play and you have the basketball, so at.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
The very least it's you're getting the last.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
Shot before overtime.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
Right, there's ten seconds left, Wemby's got the ball, Castle's
running up looking like he wants to dust Jalen Brunson.
All right, we're gonna get some action and instead square
in the back. But instead it is again a cataclysmic
mistake for Wemby, who now is going to have to
wear that for however long. Right now, now, if you're
the Spurs, the only silver lining you're taking away from
(26:28):
this is that, well, maybe now we get Hulk Wemby
for the rest of the series because he feels responsible
after throwing the ball off his teammates back. Right, he
made a couple of bad mistakes, couple of bad shots
in the fourth quarter, but he also willed them all
the way back. But that's the thing all right, you
got the good and the bad with the fourth because
he finally got aggressive, finishes the game eleven of twenty
one from the field. He'd only taken four shots in
(26:49):
the first half. We started the show, I went off
on the lack of production, the lack of effort. There's
a viral clip of Barkley saying, you know, I don't
think he's used to getting his ass detly hasn't happened
in a while, right, because you're getting bodied up by
Robinson and Kat. Everybody getting a dunk on right, Og
got one and Cat got one. So those will be
(27:11):
poster dunks and maybe posters for the little boys and
girls of New York City and those folks living in
their parents' basements. But all of them will celebrate it
just the same. But yeah, Wemby did some magnificent things
in the fourth quarter, but still also had two really
curious looks at the basket right, being as far out
(27:31):
as he was, and he'd found the stroke a little
bit from mid and deep late, but that the decision.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
To try to pass the ball to Castle there.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
I can't wait for the post game.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
Now, look what you ad because you want to get
into And that's what I mean when I say young
teams not being ready for the moment. Because Wemby didn't
know where the ball should go. Who should have the ball?
Should I have the ball? Steph Castle should have the ball.
He's the point guard. But there's ten seconds to go
and you're dribbling up court and I'm throwing the ball
because I'm nervous, and I throw the ball to with
(28:05):
teammates back like that. Again, this is a young team
that is not ready to handle the pressure moments at
the end of games. The Knicks have been there closest
to anybody. Look, they have the pressure of conference finals
and big games and their veterans and Brunton's been around
a while, and so is Karl Anthony Towns, so is
hard so is Anunobi. The Knicks understand the moment. And
(28:25):
I know the Knicks understand the moment because they've closed
these first two games as well as you possibly could.
The Spurs don't get the moment because that's a pass
you make when you are unsure of what to do
with the basketball. You're unsure of what the final moment
should be. Because if you're the Spurs and you're saying,
we have the ball with ten seconds left in a
tie game. What do we do? Is it to Aaron
Fox because he's hot, but you want to give it
(28:46):
to Wemby? But okay, how do we get the ball
to Wemby? Well, Wemby's got the ball in the back court,
but now Wenby didn't want the ball, so I'm gonna
give it to Steph Cassel, who's not even turned around
looking for the ball. Like this is a young team
that completely blew it and mentally, I don't know where
they are at the end of games, and I don't
know that they're ready for the moment, because that should
have been a much easier final possession, or at the
(29:08):
very least, let's get it and call time out. They
could have called time out. We got the rebound, let's
call time out because we have ten seconds. It's not
like to have two seconds. We call time out and
we can None of those things happened. None of those
things happen. So again, I don't know how ready for
the moment the Spurs are. I don't know how ready
Wenby is. I don't know how, but I know the
Knicks are because I watched them make the plays they
(29:29):
need to.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
Make to win this game.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
They did let these Spurs back into this one up
fourteen and you saw the big run. But yeah, when
you needed a play, when you needed to stop, you
needed a shot. The Knicks time and again come away
with one, and then they're going to replay that Wenby
tossed to Castle's back a million times. Right. I don't
(29:51):
know what the timeout situation was, but I certainly know
that there was the panic in the eye, right, and
you're trying to get out on the break, and maybe
you're not calling a time out thinking you've got an
advantage Wemby being able to look over the top and
find find someone going up the court. But I also
don't think he expected him to not dribble it up, yeah,
and try to create a play. And you know what
(30:14):
I like the most now now to make it. Then
they get the final shot with a chance to win.
Wemby absolutely flops on this shot. Again, this is a
shot to win the game, and Wemby flops coming down.
The Knicks do the right thing and they don't get
close to him. Well, it was Mitchell Robinson and he
was in his vicinity. He doesn't Yeah, he doesn't get
(30:34):
close to Wemby, and Wemby flops on the final shot. Now, yes,
flopping is a great strategy. You're looking for that, but
you're looking for the flop if hey, there's there's tight
coverage and I'm getting body to body and because there's
there's a big part of me that that gets that
when you go up there and you try to flop
on the way down? Is your follow through where it
(30:56):
should be? Is your confidence where it should be? Where
I'm just shoot and then try to fall to the floor, right, Like,
it's kind of how you look at it when when
you're playing golf, right, there's a school of thought that
when you hit a drive and oh you have a
bad follow through, how much do you really put into
the follow through? Because once you hit the ball, the
ball's gone. So is the follow through a big deal
(31:18):
if you slice it or if you hook it? But
I really you know in the NBA, when when I
see a guy go up for a shot and you're
looking for a flop, I see a guy that is
looking for you got to bail me out. I don't
know that I can make this. And if you're Wemby,
you want to expect to say I have a wide
open fifteen footer, I'm gonna bury it. I'm not touched
the Knicks to even try to get that was a
great space. And that was a great decision by Mitchell
(31:40):
Robinson because he didn't. Yeah, he decided, if you're gonna
take this jumper from fifteen foot, we're going to give
it to you. If you try to get close, then
I then I then I got to do my thing.
But if you take the shot, I'm going to give
it to you. And he wasn't even close, and Wemby
flops falls and the ball is long and the Knicks
wind up.

Like really, I mean, everything I've seen from the Spurs
in these final ten seconds of the game tells you
why they're down to zip.

this positively about in the NBA Finals. Through two games,
your NBA Finals MVP is Carly Anthony Towns and it's

not particularly close. Jalen Brunson had a great fourth quarter
of Game one, and he had a big shot at
the end of the end of the fourth quarter. Tonight
made one of the two free throws to give them
the winning margin. But Cat has been the difference both
offensively and defensively in game won the best game of
his career on both ends of the floor. Cat has
never had a better game. I mean, maybe you want

to show me something. He did great in Minnesota, but
not with those kind of stakes, not on both ends
of the floor. And Tonight twenty one points, thirteen rebounds,
four assists while spending most of the night in foul trouble.
His aggressiveness and his attitude, and his willingness to get
in front of Wembin Yama and stop him or slow

him down as much as he can. Webbin Yama was
a non factor in the first half of this game.

Wanted to drive to the airport a few months ago, Like, Okay, yeah,

I I can't get over how he has been the
one to step up and grab the team by its

this good, I didn't expect. I expect him to have
his moments, and I knew that him and he was

a bad matchup for Wemby.
