Speaker 2 (00:23):
If you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Greetings, Welcome inside hour two The Jason Smith Show with
my bes friend Mike Harmon, live from the Fox Sports
Radio dot Com studios, where the United States for run
lead now trying to hold on against Brazil. That's gotten
big outings from Jose Contreras's son and Manny Ramirez is Jason.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
If America loses this game, you you can't live in
this country anymore.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Uh, listen. I can make yourself out. I can make
fun of Aaron Judge grounding into a double play against
a seventeen year old pitcher.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
If I wanted that four unanswered.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Excuves.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
Guy made up for that earlier debacle and left field
with a two run homer. It's and now we're looking
at an eight to five game.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
So eight five, right, now top of the ninth inning,
the United States trying to put a couple more runs
on the board here, uh before they head to the
bottom of the ninth but again three run lead for
the United States. Here they're opening game in the World
Baseball Classic. Will have more from John Paul Morosi from
Houston following this game and not quite how I thought
it was gonna go. And it's honestly, this game should
(01:41):
be this should be the United States winning this game,
like fourteen to five, Like that's the square that I
mean the United States they have I think what thirteen
walks and and had bases loaded and judge it's into
a double play against a kid in high school.
Speaker 5 (01:55):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
And I'm not saying that, like, oh, I'm being a no, no, no,
the kid actually is in high school. Like this should
be a game where the United States went wins this
game by ten runs, and instead it's a three run
game in the top of the ninth inning.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
Tonal was set in fourteen and a half nine and
a half run line.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
There you go, you went right to the gambling again.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
Well, I mean you went out of your way to
talk about all the walks that they didn't capitalize on.
It would only be smart of me to inform our
audience nationwide, globally, intergalactically of what that means if say
you had backed your country like you wouldn't do.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
All I am saying is that Aaron Judge hit into
a double play against a kid who is a high
school you're saying, That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Man, he did some social status homework earlier.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Today, I was not rooting for Aaron Judge to hit
into a double play with the bases loaded against a
kid in high school. But when the best player in baseball,
coming off a big error in the World Series a
couple of years ago, hits into a double play against
a kid in high school, we have to talk about it.
It's something that happened.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
Yeah, he did his social studies homework earlier. He had
math on Thursday, so he's getting it done.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
You know what else, You're not an athlete. You know
what else you're not gonna see in the in the
ninth inning of this game, who's that Clayton Kershaw? Because
it's too close? How's that? Frostburg? How's that? How's that?
How do you like that? Apples?
Speaker 3 (03:19):
Anti America? It's literally like in the words of the dude.
This aggression will not stand man.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Just your homework, Frostburg, Just your homework, Frostburg.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
Show on American Radio.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Jason, This is your homework, Frostburg. Is your homework, Frostburg. Yes,
I'm going to Brazil radio after this. Yes, me be
talking about the topless beaches, the killer spiders. Uh, the
Olympics in Rio a few years ago. Fine, you just.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
Spoiled the forty five. I had all worked up.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
Sorry, what topless beaches.
Speaker 4 (03:49):
And spiders was gonna have interesting factors about Brazil?
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Okay, all right? Uh so again, United States leading Brazil
eight five, top of the ninth inning. But the big
story this broke about twenty minutes before we came on
the air tonight. Max Crosby has been traded. This week
long drama with the Raiders is now at an end.
The Baltimore Ravens get Max Crosby in exchange for a
first round pick this year end next year. And this
(04:19):
is we talked about it last hour. An incredible win
for the Ravens. You go out and get an all
Pro player like Max Crosby that has another three or
four years of peak football left in him. He is
a plug and play guy, his motor, his desire. This
is not someone that gets paid or gets paid money
and says, yeah, I'm mailing it in. He's not made
(04:39):
that way. There are very few players you can make
a trade for and give a lot of money to
and not have a lot of questions. And this is it.
I can't believe the Raiders couldn't get more I made.
Maybe Tom Brady's got a you know, I don't know
what he's doing. I mean, I know, you know, he's
living in Florida, he's running the Raiders, broadcasting all these
different things, flag football, you know, talking saw all this
(05:00):
different stuff. Maybe he wants to fight Jake Paul. I
don't know. But man, you gotta get more for Max
Crosby than that. I mean, really, the Jets got more
for Sauce Gardner. Just think about that, right, I mean
you see some of the other players what they were
going for, Like Max Crosby is a Micah Parsons type
situation where this is where you absolutely load up and
(05:21):
and and get and get more for and two first
round picks. I mean, it's it's it's a it's a
hefty price, but you gotta push this you. You could
have got another first round pick, maybe a second and
a third, or a player. You could have got more
from that. I mean, I'm not saying he had to
keep him because it was untenable. Max Crosby wanted out.
I'm not saying the Raiders had to hold on to
him because when a guy wants out, guy wants out
(05:43):
and there's a big market for him. But there should
have been more. I mean, really, I mean, you should
have gotten more for a guy that's this productive, that
is this good, that averages ten sacks a year and
was on paced. If you know, until he got hurt
last year, he might have had his best season sack
wise overall. So I mean, this is the guy. If
you're saying in the off season we try to focus
(06:05):
on players to go get who do you want to try?
You go get the all pros? Man Less Sneed had
it right when he said it the other day. First thing,
are there any all pros we can go get? They
went out and got Trent McDuffie. Hey what all pros
can we go get? The Ravens said, let's go get
Max Crosby. They have already won the off season with
what they did tonight.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
Yeah, I look at this trade, and you know, we
long used the analogy of distressed properties right through whatever
convergence of circumstance in your neighborhood. All of a sudden,
the house comes up for sets. Like I thought everything
was going great. You have no idea what's going on
behind closed doors? Right, family strife, the job market being
(06:43):
what it is, all those things. Suddenly someone needs to
get out of that property. Job change, right, I need
to leave the state, the city, whatever. In this case,
you might have a distressed property and we know that
Max Crosby has a bunch of issues with the team.
And decide on your giant pie chart how big they were.
The operation shut down at the end of last year,
(07:04):
the stuff with Guerrero and the trainer, just overall organizational
instability and direction, which he's been part of for several years,
several coaching changes and coordinators and regimes and everything else
or whatever you want to ascribe it to. It was
an untenable situation to where he decided he was done
(07:24):
and they weren't crossing that crossing back that that chasm,
and so you decide you're gonna get rid of them.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
That's fine.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
You are not under the gun to do so today
or tomorrow, or until Fernando Mendoza is gonna walk up
and announce the second pick. Hey, we trained it for
this pick, and here I am. I'm back to announce it.
It's the You had plenty of time to let this marinate,
unless you're just deciding that, all right, we're absolutely done.
(07:52):
We're gonna take what the market offers us and be
done with it. It seems to me you'd have enough
contenders trying to outdo each other, and that's fine if
you don't want to consider the Cowboys a contender or
some of these other teams that were coming to the
table that you didn't like it to some degree, maybe
you did Max Crosby a solid by sending him to
a contender. All right, all right, we're gonna you know,
(08:14):
we hampered your career for long enough, We're gonna get
our two picks and you get to go play meaningful football.
Good luck, go terrorize Joe Burrow and the members of
the AFC North. But for the Raiders, as you're trying
to reconstruct this thing, you got a lot of cap space.
Right what they did with Gino and all the other
moves that they're making. We're talking one hundred million dollars
(08:34):
to go spend plus the number one overall pick. That yeah,
you want to go and you want to maximize. This
just seems to me the thing I'm holding out for.
I don't want a third draft pick like that. That
means I gotta hit on all of them, not a
be two great draft picks and one legitimate I can
plug this guy in because guess what, you got a
lot of x'es up on the board right now or
(08:56):
question marks that are waiting to fill in with a
guy's face on your depth chart. Here was an opportunity,
whether it be the Ravens or somebody else, to solidify
one of those spaces.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
Well here. But here's the thing though, Remember with the
draft picks, it not that you have to use them all.
If you could have got like another second and a third,
well that helps you get somebody else from another team
like that. That's you know, it's it's not like the
NBA where hey, first round picks, we just give him
out like candy. But you know, hey, okay, we can
we can now give you a second and a third.
So now suddenly that trade turns into two first round
(09:28):
picks and a number one receiver or a uh you know,
or or a middle linebacker or whatever whatever you feel
you need because we can go get this guy now
because we have these extra trade uh draft picks.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
For Yeah, it's it's just interesting that you know, I'm
not a the you know, the draft compensation. Then I'll
leave that to Jimmy Johnson's chart of all all those
years ago and trying to figure out, you know, how
it grades and valuations and whatever else. Boy, as we
look at the board when you're trying to find impact,
(10:02):
you mentioned the Rams trade like, and the free agent
class is deep. There's guys everywhere. Are they all difference makers? No,
there's there's very few of them, particularly at this position.
And for Max Crosby what we've looked at for these
years of domination, when they're generally they're behind, it's like, wait,
if he actually gets to pin his ears back when
they've got a lead.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
I haven't had a lead since twenty twenty one. That's
the last time in the playoffs. Now. It's funny because
you mentioned the other person that was involved in We
thought the big Raider headline today was that they were
gonna let Geno Smith go. Right when next week when
it's official, Uh, they are saying goodbye to both Max
Crosby and Geno Smith. Only one player. Raider fans will
(10:47):
be really upset.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
Only one of those Jets.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
But I'll tell you this about Geno Smith. Okay, this pick,
he sucks, right if somebody signs him to be their
starting quarterback for next season. Okay, and there's our rumors
the Jets could be The Jets are gonna apparently get everybody.
We're gonna get Geno Smith. We're gonna have Derek Carr,
We're gonna get too, well, we're gonna have all these guys. Right,
(11:12):
They're gonna get everybody whoever signs Geno Smith to be
their starting quarterback next year. You know they are all
in on tanking for next season because that's what it is,
because g Geno Smith is the easy guy that you
can sign where your team can defend it by putting
their arms out wide saying, well, you know, Geno Smith's
(11:33):
been an okay start in the league for a while. Now,
we're looking for a bridge guy. Now, clearly, you can't
expect us to go crazy for a quarterback this year.
It's gotta be somebody developmental wise, of course we're going out.
Geno Smith is gonna commit and solidify the position for us. Meanwhile,
knowing full well, he's gonna come in and throw interception
after interception and the team is gonna stink because Gino
(11:53):
thirty five years old and he really has had one
good year, one really good year is a quarterback in
the NFL. You know, whoever signs Geno Smith is all
in on tanking for twenty twenty seven because they go, well,
we're gonna have Geno Smith, So okay, we're gonna go
three and fourteen. Hopefully that's enough to pick number one,
to get Arch Manning or number two and get Dante
(12:14):
more or whoever else. If you go get Gino Smith
number one, you know that team is in for the time.
Welcome back to the Jets. It look good.
Speaker 4 (12:21):
I could must out all those twenty thirteen rookie cards
once again. But yeah, he's If you have the long,
long list of quarterbacks that are available, including those that
you're waiting for the new year, and the cat hits
to come in, I mean, what is he twelve? Maybe,
by the way, your guy Charles Woodson has already weighed
(12:41):
in on the Max Crosby deal. He's not really Jason's guy. Well,
I said, yeah, but he wouldn't have let go of
your hand if we didn't separate you fifty three angry
orange face emojis in response to which someone replied, it's
just business Charles, to which he replied, so what, Kirk Morrison.
(13:08):
A number of our friends that have been part and
affiliated with the Raider organization all these years going, really, really,
that's hit saying goodbye to Max because they all love Max.
But at the same point, looking at the organization, going.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
Now what exit out bout a Fresca exit? Swollen down
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Comer

Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. United States putting a couple more runs
on the board here still batting in the top of
the ninth inning against Brazil. Another walk has brought home
the eleventh run of the night for the United States.
They continue to bat one out. They lead Brazil eleven
(14:54):
to five. Here, still in the top of the ninth inning.
We'll have more on this coming up with What's tr
Nigla Steve Disager in a few moments. But now it's
time to talk all the latest news in the NFL.
Why are bow Knicks Justin Herbert and Patrick Mahomes having
a big party tonight because they don't have to worry
about Max Crosby anymore. Two first round picks head to
(15:18):
the Raiders, Max Crosby to the Ravens. What's to make
of this? Joining us now in the hotline? Nobody better
than longtime NFL insider thirty third team Pro Football Hall
of Fame voter on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two.
It is Jason Cole. Ja Cole, what's happening? Man?
Speaker 5 (15:39):
Love is beautiful? Said, I just want to know that
the biggest news is not Max Crosby, but it's the
chance that the New York Jets could bring back Gino Smith.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
Okay, first, first of all, First of all, let me
just say this. Geno Smith is going to be cut
by the rate. Of course, every quarterback is on the
Jets list. But I had to see today Frank Reich say,
you know, she reports that, you know Frank Wright, new
Jets offensive courter, who of course was out of football
(16:15):
last year, say that me. He was not.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
He was not out of football last year. He was not.
He was the coach of the Stanford Cardinals.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
He was out of the NFL. Sorry, he was out
of here, thank you, out of the NFL. I was
I was gonna say something funny. Of course, he's out
of football. He's the coach of Stanford. But I want
to be nice to you.
Speaker 5 (16:38):
You missed the opportunity. You should have gone for the juggler,
because I did with Gino Smith. That you're going to
be buying another Geno Smith jersey because I wear it
on Saturday. There we go, No, no, no, no, Gan.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
First of all, we're getting well, First of all, we're
getting Derek Carr. And if we're not getting Derek Carr,
we're getting Tua. And if we're not getting Tua, hey,
guess what. According to reports today, Frank Reich might want
Carson Wentz to run his system because he knows it
so well, which means we're fully tanking in twenty twenty seven.
So I'm actually okay with that. But I could have
(17:18):
to watch Carson Wentz play quarterbacks.
Speaker 5 (17:22):
Last year?
Speaker 7 (17:25):
Yeah, and it got how many straight?
Speaker 5 (17:28):
How many straight years do you have? Like this is
the whole point of why you don't trade your good players,
which is now we get to the Max Crosby part
of this, Like you can rebuild the team fairly quickly
in the NFL. You don't have to suck every year.
Now that Jets and you're run by Woody Johnson.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
Yeah, yeah, there's no lies there.
Speaker 5 (17:51):
You know, Gina, Geno, Gene.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
Can you imagine when we have a three way quarterback
competition next year between Wentz and Geno and how great
is that going to be?
Speaker 5 (18:04):
Let's talk about Max Krosby. The first time I've ever
wanted to talked about something serious. I can't. I can't,
I can't, I can't. I can't talk about I can't
talk about the Jets in their quarterback situation. That's that's
(18:24):
too vulgar.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
So okay, Ja Cole am I the only one you
know we're talking about this. I would have given up
more for Max Crosby than two first round picks like
this guy is the the ultimate plug and play. You
got him for three or four more great years like this.
He's an absolute terror and a lunatic in the best
way possible.
Speaker 5 (18:45):
Yeah, I'm surprised the prices. It is cheap. I really am.
Olympics are decent, you know, for this year. I would
have thought you could have gotten to you could have
gotten one more thing out of that of like I said,
und pick or a second round pick. You could have
waited it out a little bit longer. I don't know
(19:07):
what the rush is for the for the Raiders and
the other side is. And I said this, you know,
in response to the story that Mike Silver wrote this
week about Alex Guero and for the lack of leadership
within the Raiders organization and what's going on. I think
(19:27):
somebody needs to have a heart heart talk with Tom
Brady and say, look, if you really want to turn
this organization around it and run and run it, you
have to be there. Well. I like Tom a lot,
and you know, obviously a great football mind and all
these other things, but either you're the owner or you're not.
(19:49):
Either you're involved in changing this or you're not. Because
the one thing that is important about ownership is that
you're there in the building on a regular basis and
that people understand that this is important to you and
that you're forcing them to, you know, to like be
at the top of their game all the time when
they're working. And what's happened is, you know, Mark Davis
(20:14):
is you know, I mean, look, Mark Davis is a
clown and you know cares more about the Aces at
this point because they don't embarrass him on a regular
bas It's like the Raiders do but you know, Mark
Davis doesn't know what he's doing. He doesn't know how
to hold people accountable. He just screams at the coach
all the time because he thinks that that's the way
(20:36):
the best way to do business. He doesn't understand what
it takes to actually be good in football. So like
you got to start all over from the top to
try and fix this thing. And that's what Tom presumably
wanted to do when he got involved in this. But
he's off doing all these other things, like you know
this game that was supposed to be in Saudi Arabia
(20:56):
that that was actually getting moved into the whole TV career,
and all the other things that Tom is doing. You know,
he's on social media more than more than ever, Like
go up and run the team.
Speaker 4 (21:11):
On the other side, we get the the ravens Lamar
Jackson in that next phase of his career. Still need
some offensive help. They'll need to replace the center. But
defensively that was the big missing component all season long.
I mean, where do you put him in the Panthe
end of the AFC now and is Joe Burrow looking
for greener pastures to get out of the AFC North?
Speaker 5 (21:35):
It was just a matter of time before Joe Burrow
realized he's, oh, yeah, I'm in Cincinnati. Oh yeah, this
is bad. Yeah, this is not good. I want to win.
Like maybe I could go to the Jets that might
actually be better.
Speaker 4 (21:54):
I don't know, best joke you've ever told. I don't
know that.
Speaker 5 (21:57):
I don't know, as I I wasn't really being serious
in case you didn't realize that. But I am serious
about Joe Burrow realizing Oh yeah, Mike Brown, yeah that's
not gonna work. I'll say, yeah, Look, I think Max
(22:17):
Crosby is a really great first step and obviously improves
their pass rush significantly. And they and they got over
this idea that you can, oh, we're just going to
have like five really good pass rushers and then Bloks
a lot and use you know, you know, Kyle Hamilton
a lot and all these other things to fake it
(22:40):
so that we don't have to have a guy whose
tours to drink. Now, you generally have to have a
guy who tos to drink. You have to have a
guy who's really great at it, and you're really better
off if you have two of them. And I don't
think that the Ravens yet have the other guy that
they got to get. Crosby's a great first move. Give
them a lot credit for that. I think they need
to get another guy, either intoior guy or guy and side,
(23:01):
who can be a complimentary piece. He doesn't have to
be a guy who gets fifteen sacks this season, but
this guy gets some. He's a guy freeates opportunities for
other people. Probably get somewhere in the area of you know, eight, nine, ten.
So I don't think that they're quite done with what
they're trying to do, but at least they broke out
of that idea of trying to fake it until you
(23:23):
make it, Yeah, by getting Crosby. So that's our first
really good move. Ester lamar Man like he just wasn't
right after September, and like we all know that the
wheels eventually come off when you're running quarterback. I want
(23:45):
to see him healthy again. I want to see him.
He's got to be able to run to set up
all the other things that he wants to do.
Speaker 6 (23:51):
Now.
Speaker 5 (23:51):
He doesn't have to be a guy who runs fell
times a game, but he has to be when he
picks his spots to run, he has to be really
affected because the defense had to account for it so
that you can open up some other chances. I mean,
I give Lamar Jackson an incredible amount of credit for
what he's done in his career to make himself a
much better passer than I ever thought he was going
(24:13):
to become. You know, he really really worked hard in
his craft, but still there is a fundamental part of
his game that is dependent upon his legs setting up
his ability to throw.
Speaker 1 (24:28):
You weren't kidding sudden, You're like I wanted just as
serious you've ever been with us that when we're not, okay,
most serious. You weren't. Even this series we talked about
not voting for Belichick for the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 7 (24:46):
You still had more time.
Speaker 5 (24:47):
I didn't vote Belichick. Don't do that to me. I
voted for Belichick.
Speaker 1 (24:53):
I mean, I mean the colloquial you. I mean you
Hall of Fame didn't vote for Belichick.
Speaker 5 (24:58):
Jack Other people didn' vote.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
He can't speak for Tony dungeye leave him alone.
Speaker 7 (25:02):
For him.
Speaker 5 (25:03):
I voted for him, and I voted for his girlfriend
to make the Hall of Fame too. Yes, there you go.
Speaker 1 (25:11):
I had I had all kinds of Belichicks and Hudson's
all down.
Speaker 5 (25:13):
My les. Yeah, Belichick, his daughter who's a lacrosse coach.
She's in the Hall of Fame too. I voted for
every Belichick he could possibly find him. His ex wife, Debbie.
I don't even think she called himself Belichick anymore. She
goes in like that.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
All of them nice.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
But still, despite your efforts, you couldn't get Bill Belichick
into the Hall of Fame. Other players with lesser careers
you put in right away. Hey, let let's let's back
it up to let other guys in. Sure, Let's let
Terrell Davison, the guy at two and a half great seasons,
let's put him in the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 5 (25:54):
That's fine, thanks, thanks. Tarrell Davis does not have two
and a half great seasons. He had four threeasons. He
had three great seasons and one very good season. And
and look at the postseason. The man had twelve hundred
and fifty yards in eight postseason games. So let's not
(26:15):
go there with Trell Davis. The man was on pace
for to set an NFL record rushing record in the
in playoff game situations.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
But I can't, But I can't put it. My pamp
put a guy in for stuff. He didn't do or
if he was on he was on pace.
Speaker 5 (26:30):
To do.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
Well.
Speaker 5 (26:33):
The things that he just did, the twelve hundred and
fifty yards and however many touchdowns in eight playoff games
and the seven and one record, I can put him
in with that. Okay, thank you, mister. I want to
find a way to night at me a little bit
more and blame me for Belichick. I'm not the reason
Belichick didn't get in. Don't blame me.
Speaker 1 (26:55):
See, I figured you didn't vote for him, but you
switched your ballot with Tony Dungee, and he's getting all
this flak right now. I think that's what happened you.
You didn't vote and you crossed off his name and
wrote in your name.
Speaker 5 (27:07):
Oh yeah, that's that's that's one of the most believable
arguments you've ever made.
Speaker 1 (27:13):
I don't know you guys didn't put Belichick in the
Hall of Fame.
Speaker 5 (27:16):
I don't know the guy who maybe is a little
suspicious that they'll Cheateadh cheated a little bit during his game.
Maybe that guy didn't him. I don't know that for
a fact. Tony has not said what he did or
didn't do, but it's much more likely in this discussion
that I'm the one telling the truths here. Let's just
say that and not you with your you know, Fox
(27:39):
Space reporting.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
Right now, Tony Dungee's listening to the show going. Now,
I know why col said, Hey, Tony, give me your ballot.
I'll just I'll walk up there and turn it in
for you. Now, why he did that? Okay, all right, Yeah,
that's what I did. That's why And why did he
ask me for? Why did he ask me for an eraser? Now?
I know?
Speaker 7 (27:56):
Okay, with me keep it out and they would look
at it and it would like be like an arrested development.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
They would see why why is Tony Tony spelled t
O N I okay, I guess so hard.
Speaker 5 (28:14):
Yeah, the famous singing group whatever, Lo, there we go, TJ.
Speaker 1 (28:24):
Clearly Tony Tony, Tony has done it again. Not putting
Belichick in the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 5 (28:29):
Oh maybe Tony Mortson didn't do any either, either. So
with Tony, let's they'll check out any other Tonys.
Speaker 1 (28:42):
Tony Danza, the TJ clearly knock three times on the
ceiling if you want to vote for him for the
Hall of Fame.
Speaker 4 (28:56):
Hey, Toma Hopkins had a good run.
Speaker 1 (28:58):
After that, he's on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two.
That is, at Jason Cole sixty two. Check him out
on thirty thirteen and whatever other famous Tonys you want
to hit m up. Tell you easy, buddy. Now, I'm
(29:27):
just thinking of the Simpsons. You might remember me from
such specials as Let's Save Tony Orlando's House.
Speaker 8 (29:33):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
Time now to find out what's trending in the wide
world of sports from special delivery Steve to Sager, who
has the latest on the biggest blowout of the night.
Of course, it is the Knicks beating the Nuggets by
sixty despite Jalen Brunson not even getting the double digits
for the next night, Steve de Sager take it away.
Speaker 8 (29:52):
You know, on a normal night that would have a
chance to lead you score one against a good team
that's nowhere in the top five so much as going
on tonight. First off, the Raiders trading edge rusher Max
Crosby to Baltimore for two first rounds, and the Raiders
are cutting quarterback Gino Smith. And then there's Team USA's
opener of the World Baseball Classic in Houston, leading Brazil
(30:15):
in the bottom of the nine fifteen to five. Brazil's
pitching staff tonight, in nine innings, issued seventeen walks, hit
two batters, balked in a run in the nines, walked
in three in the nine three pitchclock violations as well.
Aaron Judge, the US captain, with a two run homer
in the first he did ground into a double play
(30:37):
in the second inning against a high schooler with bases loaded.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
See were you sure that.
Speaker 3 (30:41):
Wasn't the Mets bullpen stadt?
Speaker 8 (30:43):
A lot is going on, by the way, the former.
Speaker 1 (30:45):
Watching this game tonight, Steve, see what you just said
about the pitching. This is like a ten U baseball
or softball game where the kids are pitching for the
first time. Hi, everybody, everybody's gonna be twelve walks in
the inning, and then we're gonna go off in twelve
more walks and twelve more walks. You know, how do
we get tonight from Brazil?
Speaker 8 (31:03):
I feel for the home plate umpire in this going
on and on, and I think it crossed his mind
at one point, can we just put the ball on
a tee like the ten and under and just keep
this over with? At some point, so it's fifteen to
five with one out, in the night. The American second
game of the tournament is Saturday night in Houston against
Great Britain on Fox TV. Great Britain was actually tied
(31:26):
with Mexico one to one in the eighth Today Mexico
won a eight to two Jonathan Rondo the Rays a
three run homer in the eighth inning. Former Mets closer
Edwin Diaz now a Dodger, struck out three in the
ninth is. Puerto Rico won five nothing against Columbia, getting
the five runs in the fifth. The Dominican Republic, with
a star studded lineup, was tied with Nicaragua three to
(31:49):
three in the sixth twelve three. The final three RBIs
apiece for Julio Rodriguez and Vladimir Guerrero Junior. Venezuela six
to two over Netherlands. Cuba beat Panama three to one.
Japan early today when it's opener in Tokyo thirteen to
nothing over Chinese Taipei. Shoheo Tani hit a grand slam
(32:09):
in a ten run second inning. And then there's what's
going on in the NBA. The Lakers are currently hosting
and leading the Pacers at the half sixty four fifty one.
Luka Doncic in the first quarter had twenty two points,
which means just this season so far, he scored at
least twenty in a first quarter, five times, the most
(32:30):
by any NBA player for a full season since they
had the play by playlist as part of the stats
going back almost thirty years. In the first half, twenty
nine points for Doncic and again a Laker double digit lead.
Then there's the Clippers game. Believe it or not, they
were up twenty at the half at San Antonio. Oh
(32:51):
I believe it, blew that lead and the Clippers now
lead one oh three to one oh one against the
Spurs with under five minutes to go. Kawhi Leonard has
scored twenty a game for the fortieth straight game. He
has twenty eight in this one. Also in the NBA,
Jason Tatum returned to the court in Boston after a
torn achilles last May. In the playoffs. He becomes the
(33:14):
first player in NBA history to miss his team's first
fifty games of the season or more. But then in
his season debut, have at least fifteen points, ten rebounds,
and five assists. By the way, in baseball, it's just
gone Final, USA fifteen to five over Brazil. There are
other hoops items. It's just gone final and Miami Ohio
(33:39):
is thirty one in oher winning in overtime, won ten
to one oh eight at Ohio University. Also on FS
one earlier eighteenth ranks, Saint John survived at Seaton Hall
seventy two to sixty five. North Carolina freshman Caleb Wilson
is out for the year after thumb surgery. Regular season
(34:00):
winds up this weekend with selection Sunday for the NCAA
Men's Tournament. A week from Sunday, conference tourney's already going
for women's basketball. Ole Miss ranked twenty fourth, beat number
five Vanderbilt in an SEC quarterfinal, let him at the
half forty nine to seventeen, and held on eighty nine
seventy eight. Lsu ripped Oklahoma back to you.
Speaker 1 (34:22):
You know who the most upset person is in the
world right now, Steve the world?
Speaker 8 (34:26):
Yeah, Bruce Pearl, Yes, because they're undefeated and going to
the NCAA Tournament, Miami, Ohio.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
Thank you, Steve oh Jason Smith, Mike Harmon live from
the Fox Sports Radio Studios. Coming up next, we have
more big stuff from basketball and the NFL. Keep it here, Jack.
Speaker 2 (34:49):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (34:57):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with ma my
best friend Mike Harmon, where we almost had absolute chaos
in the NCAA Tournament. Miami, Ohio improved to thirty one
and zero on the season, but he threw for four
(35:17):
touchdowns tonight. Wally Serbiak had a big night. Ron Harper
had a big night. You and I think Gary Trent
had a big night.
Speaker 4 (35:26):
Anytime we get Wally in the show, we've won.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
Now I'm out of Miami of Ohio, Redza RedHawks.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
And who was the other quarterback legend that went there
besides Roethlisberger?
Speaker 1 (35:36):
Uh, legend that went to wasn't him?
Speaker 3 (35:39):
It was somebody else?
Speaker 1 (35:40):
Who was it? No? No, I think it was only Roethlisberger. No,
what was it? Marino? No, Marina went to Pitt Roethlisberger.
I think Roethlisberger was the only one. Yeah, I think
he was the only one. Uh yeah, No, I don't
think there was anybody else. I don't think anybody else.
(36:00):
We can you know what we can look it up.
Speaker 4 (36:02):
Zach Dysert. Yeah, Charlie Batch, he had a good runs.
Speaker 1 (36:08):
He said famous, you said famous.
Speaker 4 (36:09):
Charlie Batch was in the NFL forever.
Speaker 1 (36:12):
He's a good man. People still think he's a backup quarterback.
They still couldn't get back up. Isn't he the backup
at Pittsburgh to Rogers?
Speaker 3 (36:19):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (36:19):
Yeah, no, Charlie Batch still the backup. Uh. But Miami
of Ohio goes to thirty one and oh it takes
them over time to beat Ohio one ten, one oh eight,
but they keep the magic season alive. And there's been
so much attention on him this week after Bruce Pearl said, oh,
I can't take Miami of Ohio for the NCA Tournament
unless they win the MAC even though they're thirty one
(36:40):
and oh ranked in the top twenty. And this debate
has gotten bigger than I thought it would, simply because
you know, up until a few days ago, I'm like,
wait a minute, everybody loves the mid majors. They all
love the mid major teams and think they're awesome, and
think the mid major teams are great, and we gotta
let more mid major teams in Miami. Is why you
(37:03):
need to expand the NCAA tournament. And I know a
lot of people go, what do you mean, expelled? Why
do have to expand the NA tournament? Because the last
fifteen years since Butler went to back to back nca
championship games, all of a sudden, it's been well, boy,
we get fun mid major teams that maybe pull one
top twenty five upset and win the rest of their games. Oh,
we gotta let him in the NA tournament. The love
(37:25):
for mid major tournaments has gotten so far and so
big that now, how many teams are we seeing left out?
That are the big power five conference teams where you go, boy, hey,
you won twenty games in the ACC, or you won
twenty games in the Big Ten, and you don't even
sniff the NA turn you're not even one of the
first four out. Yeah, because they take too many mid
(37:46):
major teams. I'm not saying don't take Miami Ohio. This
is a team that whatever you want to look at
their record and they haven't played one top twenty five
team all year. But it doesn't matter. Thirty and oh
is thirty and oh right, okay, thirty one and oh
is thirty one? I understand that I'm not saying don't
take them, but if you take Miami of Ohio, okay,
you have to make sure you're taking all the Power
(38:07):
Conference teams because Miami is not playing the schedule that
everybody else is. How many games would the Miami win
if they were in the Big ten woul they even
be five hundred and they're not sniffing the NCAA tournament.
So it's it's kind of like if Major League Baseball decided, well,
when we have our big playoffs, it's gonna be all
the big MLB winners and we're gonna take the best
(38:27):
teams in triple A. Wait, why are we doing that?
They didn't play against the competition that the Major League Baha,
Now you see what I'm saying. They didn't play. They
don't play all year the MAC against what the Power
Conferences do. They don't have the they're not as good,
and we're rewarding them because we see them. They win
a couple of games and then they have a great
record and all of a sudden we get blinded by
(38:47):
their wins. If you're gonna do this right, and I
think Miami will, how I want to see them in
and see how they are right. This is a great,
great storyline from March. This is why you expand the
tournament because you got to let more of those Power
Conference teams in.
Speaker 4 (38:58):
Yeah, I mean the Grand scared, Well, don't you have
enough spaces? I mean, in reality, you got enough spaces
that you can fit them in. Without saying we got
to expand. I mean, you know, we get into this
time of year and it's always the who feels snubbed. Right,
we had to have that third top ten win by UCLA,
the dominance on their home court, continuing to say, okay,
(39:19):
now they're in, now they're It's like, no, they were
at nineteen wins and they were pretty good. Obviously one
disastrous game that was seen around the world with throwing
your own player out and everything. But for this, I
forget that the ad. I forget how many schools said
they tried to schedule that told them to beat it. Now,
what's real? What's imagining there? I don't know unless we
(39:40):
get a giant, well bound list of emails of here's
all the ads that told me to pound say and
when we tried to schedule. I just have to take
them at their word, but I'd want to see what
they can do. You know, the scheduling is what it is,
and sometimes you get lucky. You know, even in those
(40:01):
big conferences, sometimes you avoid the top two or three schools.
Are you playing better competition, yes, But do you necessarily
always play the best?
Speaker 1 (40:10):
No.
Speaker 4 (40:10):
I mean there's years in the Big Ten that you
avoid the the big heavyweights in the conference. So yeah,
let's let's see how they fare out and if they
go out and get boat raised well asked and answered.
Speaker 1 (40:21):
Yeah, And I'm okay with that. I mean, I want
to say they they have earned the right to go
out there and prove this is how good we are,
but at at but at the at the expense of
these other teams that are now because now these conferences
are so big, and it's how do we how do
we how do we let these twenty win teams not
get in? I mean really, it's it's a really difficult thing.
(40:41):
And I know it's hard to say expand the nca tournament,
but I kind of want to see those teams get in.
I kind of see if you can go five five
hundred or more in conference and you win twenty games,
you could get into the NCAA Tournament. I kinda think
UCLA deserves to get in the NCAA Tournament after the
season they've put out there, So I mean, I I
just think that's why you have to do it. Fascinating,
absolutely fascinating exit out about a Fresca exit swollen dome.
(41:04):
The Jason Smith Show.
