Let's give this parties.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Hello, Welcome in side hour two the Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon. If you like offense,
well you like what's going on right now between Minnesota
and Denver. We're livethtireck dot com studios, tyrec dot com.
I'll help you get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,
free road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers.
(00:50):
Tirack dot com is the way tire buying should be
eight forty eight to go in the third. Again, eight
forty eight to go in the third. Minnesota and the
Nuggets are tied at seventy two apiece.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
How great is this?
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Anthony Edwards has twenty one. Gordon's got twenty five already
for the Nuggets. Meanwhile, Jokic twelve, ten assists, six rebounds,
well on his way to a triple double. This has
been a really fun game to watch. I mean, this
kid get's gonna get to be one thirty one to
twenty five by the time it's over.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Like the old school.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
I mean, we're going back to the early eighties Denver
Nuggets when we start talking about this Boe Dannissel.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
Sure, team shooting over fifty percent in this one. You'll
get the t Wolves all the way up at fifty
five percent, fifty percent from three point range. And what's
great is clean basketball. There's only been to this point
eighteen free throws. Let him play, get up and down
the court, hit shots. Let's go.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
So we'll keep you posting on this game again.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Seventy two, seventy two, nine minutes to go in the
third quarter. But we got Beete feu Tech coming up
in about twenty minutes. All the latest in college football.
Will take a look at the game of the week,
the big noon kickoff Ohio State and Penn State. What
a game it's gonna be, but a couple of big
NFL games to get to. We're gonna get to the
game of the week in a second. But you know,
(02:10):
we talked about the Cowboys last hour and how Jerry
Jones went on the radio today and said how surprised
he was that the start has been rougher than he anticipated.
I didn't know, not going out and signing guys is
gonna be difficult. I thought, just bring the same guys back.
You know, got to start back in Dorset, and we
got a new house, a bunch of guys, and you know,
(02:31):
Lillian Martin, Brandy White, you having pretty good.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Uh, he's surprise, surprise.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
This is gonna be another difficult game for Cowboys and
the Cowboys fans to stomach on Sunday, I told you
we talked about this for a while after the second
week when they lost to the Saints, and suddenly it
was all, look how good the Saints are, because nobody
could believe the Cowboys would get pasted like that. Now
look at that game. Now look at that game. Man,
(02:57):
New Orleans is terrible. And what did I tell you
the Cowboys might just stink too, and be telling you
that for a month. The Cowboys just might stink. They're
not gonna get well against this team. There's no fixes
for them. The game against San Francisco is who they
are from the beginning. Don't get into a shootout with
the Cowboys. If you can find your way away from
(03:18):
getting into a shootout, you're gonna win going away, right
Because what was the only reason the Cowboys are able
to stay in that game? Because for some reason the
forty nine has forgot to cover CD Lamb repeatedly. I
don't know how you forget to cover CDN Kelsey effect.
It has been transferred like the Smile and Smile one
in two, they got transferred over to CD Lamb.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Nobody wants touch them is we don't cover the guy.
They won't expect that.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
I mean, that's the only reason the cowboy, the Cowboy
is able to make that any game, the score being
as respectable as it was. But this is who the
Cowboys are. Their defense is hurt, its leaky, They can't
run the football at all. Just stay out of a
shootout and you will beat them. They're not a good
football team and you're gonna see that on Sunday because
(04:03):
Atlanta is too deep. Offensively, they've really started to get it.
They have two running backs that can hurt you. B.
John Robinson has now taken on a much bigger load. Finally,
you know, a year and a half in oh Or,
you're gonna be John Robinson now. But you look, now,
Kyle Pitts had a big game last week. You're hoping
he will break out at some point. But Drake London
is terrific and Kirk Cousins looks like he's figured things out.
(04:25):
Now he's gonna keep this job for a while. They
will put up big numbers across the board and we're
gonna be talking on Monday about the it's gonna be
the Cowboys funeral at three and five. How good can
they be? Look how far they are back in the
NFC East. That's what's gonna happen. They're not just gonna
get well and win because they're the Cowboys. They're gonna
go win. And you're gonna see the numbers that the
Falcons put up in this game.
Speaker 4 (04:45):
Three and a half point road dogs, fifty one and
a half year total for this one. Jason Smith, all
of that with the Atlanta offense clicking Kyle Pitts, Fantasy owners,
you gifted an extra touchdown. You should have put an
extra dollar in the tip jar somewhere as thanks for
the football Gods blessing you with that touchdown, But it
(05:08):
all counts just the same, and right now they're moving
at a different pace, better balance. Algiers still has a
role of Bijon Robinson. The touchcount is up, Drake London,
Darnell Mooney, all of these weapons that they've got to deploy,
and Kirk Cousins a different guy than he was three
four weeks ago. And we expected a little bit of,
you know, growing pains with a new offense, not to
(05:31):
where it was, certainly not to where it was. But
as you look at it right now, everything that the Cowboys,
all their problems will be exploited defensively because you're not
gonna be able to stop the run game whatsoever, and
you don't have enough defensive backs. This would be an
absolute shocker for me. If Dallas is in range in
this one. I think the three and a half is
(05:53):
is begging me to bet the Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Oh I'm looking, I'm to this saying I think if
it was ten points, I would still take the Falcons.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
I mean, right, I think that that far.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
But when this is double digits with the Falcons, But
that's that's your precursor to what the game of the
week is and again three years ago, if we had
been saying hey in twenty twenty one, if you said
to me, hey, Jason, in three years, you're gonna be
saying weekly, how the Lions are playing in the game
of the week. I would say, come on, man, but
the Lions and the Packers is the absolute game of
(06:28):
the week this week. And just a little bit on
the Lions before we get to the game. The only
question about them, right Look, I told you the best
team in the NFL, but telling you that for a
couple of weeks right when I said, we said it
last week there was a question we talked to Todd Furman,
our Vegas Insider. He said, if the Lions were playing
the Chiefs right now in a neutral field, the Lions
would be favored. It would be a couple of points,
(06:51):
a touchdown. It would be a one or two point
thing on on a neutral field. That's how good the
Lions are playing right now. The only question I have
for them, there's only one thing wrong though. The only question,
the only question I have for the Lions is, and
this is the time, and this is legit, is that
are they peaking too early? Because they are absolutely steam
rolling teams right now, but the calendar just turned to November.
(07:14):
Are they still gonna be this good at the end
of the year, they're still gonna be in this groove,
this unstoppable groove, or team's gonna find a way to say, well,
we just watched the Lions do X, Y and Z.
You know, now we've had some time to look at
what this is now with the ascension of Jamiir Gibbs
and how they're able to move the football no matter
who plays wide receiver. So that's my only question is, hey,
(07:34):
are they peaking early right now? Because if not, it's
gonna be a boring playoffs because the Lions have the
best record in the AFC, and if they wind up
with the best record, they're going to the super Bowl.
They're gonna play two games at home, and that's gonna
be in. It's gonna be lights out forever comes in.
You're not gonna come into Detroit and expect to go
out with a win. And again things I didn't think
(07:55):
i'd say a few years ago. But if they play
at home, I know the question this week, Oh they're
playing out doors, gonna be such.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
But if they get to play at home, who's.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Gonna go in there and beat them. There's not a
team that's gonna go in there and win that game.
So this is a big fight to make sure the
Lions don't get home field. You don't want any team
to get home field, but specifically this Lions team at home.
You do not want them playing indoors at the end
of January where everything is awesome. You want them on
the road, playing in the ice and the snow and
(08:24):
if the and But right now it doesn't like that's
gonna happen, and we can have a pretty boring NFC playoff.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
Yeah, when we look at the NFC title game, yeah,
you would say, given the issues that you've seen with
San Francisco, Uh, the injury bug is just come by
and bud and bludgeon them. Absolutely decimated that squad. And
that's the one thing with Detroit. I certainly don't want
the transference to another locker room. It's one thing I
(08:49):
hate about the long road of the NFL season. I mean,
it means you earn it, but the attrition rate and
when we look to go down the the final weeks
as to what person of your all twenty two are
you actually starting hell Look with the Giants, they got
to go to another kicker again, right, kicker gets hurt
in practice. Not to put them on the same level,
but it's just the the idea of, you know, practice
(09:12):
to practice, you don't know who's pulling up with an injury,
and certainly Detroit to this point they more or less
avoided a lot of it. Right. So that's the one
thing that I would be the cautionary tale of the
whole thing is, you know, in some of these blowouts,
how do you figure out a way to hide guys
so you're not you know, leaving them to chance? Right?
(09:35):
That is the one thing. Blow outs are fun. Don't
get me wrong. What they've done statistically, I mean it's
historically just ridiculous these last couple of weeks. But that's
my one concern in the long term, two years of peaking.
But that the other part comes in to where, you know,
the interopportune sequence happens. I mean, go back to the Raiders.
(09:57):
Remember when Derek Carr was going to be the MVP
that year, they suffered no injuries, they basically had no
games missed due to injury, and then he was laid
out yelling it's broke. It's broke, and that was it.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
Oh well, obviously injuries are gonna affect that, but that
could be for any team an injury, but.
Speaker 4 (10:19):
A number of their main competitors, particularly in the NFC,
have been decimated by injury to this point. Again, you
play who's on the schedule, You have to play it out.
Next man up wins above replacement, blah blah blah blah blah.
But it's just there. We're at the midpoint and right
now they're steam rolling and it's it's a thing, it's
something interesting to watch. And then this week after the
(10:41):
Bears debacle, the idea that Johnson wanted to go to
the Bears.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Sure, how much do.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
You believe that? How much was you know, let's kick
them while they're down. Yeah, you think you're rising up.
You're in fighting with the coaching staff, your offensive coordinator,
your head coach. Guys are going to the podium and
back in a bus over both of those guys as
often as they can. Oh, let's get this out through. Hey, hey,
(11:09):
tell it, Tell your guy Rapaport, tell them, go ahead,
run a joke. There'll be a real, real funny joke
on the Bears. You think you're on the come, but
now you've got division, so push them off to the side.
One less team you have to worry about.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
So for the game, it's Look, it's a big game
on Sunday on Fox National Game Late. I know it's
at Green Bay, and it's all it's act green Bay.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
They're run there. Yeah, it's also early November, green Bay.
Speaker 4 (11:36):
That's fifty three degrees, ninety seven chance of rain and
wins out of the southeast at sixteen miles an hour.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
See, I was gonna make a joke and say it's
only gonna be zero degrees, it's gonna be warm, but
you wanted to be mister Hey, I actually have the
weather report right in front of me. I had a
better joke planned by saying it's only gonna be zero degrees.
But okay, what are the wins out of the Southwest?
Speaker 2 (11:54):
What are they?
Speaker 1 (11:55):
What are wins out of the Southwest? What's the five
day forecast? What's gonna be on Wednesday? It's gon green better,
Wed's gonna rain can be Wednesday days.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
It's are you making it up? You're really looking at you?
Speaker 4 (12:06):
Really I was, I was really looking at Greenway, green
Day weather. It's right now it is thirty five degrees
and looking at the ten day Wednesday, it's still gonna
be cloudy. You're down to a ten percent chance of precipitation.
But Sunday ninety seven, Monday, sixty five, Tuesday all the
(12:26):
way up to seventy eight percent, it is going to
be wet and wild and windy in Green Bay.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
November can be surly with bitter rain upon the world
and winter coming early. Uh, it doesn't matter if Jordan
Love plays quarterback Sunday or not. It looks like he's
trending that way, but again we're not gonna know till Sunday. Again, Hey,
we want to prepare for a couple of guys. Milik
will It's clearly has shown he can step in and
play well if he has to. So there's that. But
(12:54):
it doesn't matter because right now Detroit is an absolute machine,
even outdoors away. They are at a peak performance right now.
Jamison Williams plays doesn't matter. Khalif Raymond will probably have
a big game this week because he has big games
against the Packers. Jamiir Gibbs is the best running back
in the NFL right now. He is so incredibly dangerous.
Their offensive line is fantastic, which is just, which is
(13:17):
everything when it comes to protecting Jared Goff. I mean,
I don't think people understand the level that Detroit is
playing at. I watched them every Sunday, and they are scary.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
If they had Chiefs uniforms on, people be running and hiding.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
But it's Lions uniforms, so you go, eh, Honolulu Blue,
They're gonna turn back into the Lions right now. They
are playing at an unbelievably high level. Yes, it's its
Titanic matchup, but Detroit has too much. I'll take Detroit
thirty to twenty four. The Packers will still get their points,
but Detroit's gonna have enough. They're gonna put a lot
on the board because they're just better than everybody else
(13:52):
right now. Their skill position, guys are great, golf, is
playing great offensive line right they have everything rolling right now.
They win it again Sunday, and suddenly next week is
gonna be well, wait a minute, maybe Detroit's better than
than Kansas City. Let's have that topic that Jason and
Mike talked about like three weeks ago. Let's do that
topic this week. That's what's gonna happen.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
More complete squad and certainly both sides of the ball,
even with hutch down a Hutchinson tried to figure out
how they cover for that to this point has not
been an issue against Green Bay. You've got Jacobs's on
the injury report. That's not help things, even if if
Jordan Love is available, because you need him for his
(14:31):
eighteen to twenty two touches for that offense to work,
regardless of who's under center. So that is a bit
concerning to me. Detroit doesn't really have games outdoors. This
is like, you know, one night, one night only, if
you want to see your your favorite band in a
weird venue. Right, normally it's a stadium show. Now they're
gonna play that little club down the street. Hey, look
(14:53):
they're out where you see natural sunlight. It's a crazy thing.
Watch them shrivel up. We'll see if they're vampires. We
don't know. Uh, but I'm gonna take the Packers to
win this one close one that the defense makes one play,
one more play twenty seven twenty four, green Bay wins
it all.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
So they go, there's our pick. All right, we're on
opposite sides of the game of the week. We'll have
more picks coming up in a little bit to give.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
You Packers to win a game. I know that's what's
wrong with me. Ay you look, come on, man, you
got listen. You can't go against that. You have to
understand you gotta be true to yourself.
Speaker 4 (15:27):
Well it shows that I'm a broadcast professional.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
Well, if that like they're playing the Bears, I mean,
if they were playing the Bears.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
Maybe either way, you still you're still not supposed to
pick them.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
But it's still the same division that somebody's gonna win
that game. And they're in the same division. You're gonna
have to pick a rival at some point and they
want to say, say a tie, but you know, uh
So we'll have our upset special Picks of the week
coming up later on this hour. But next Pete Futec
College Football Inside or Extraordinary stops by, we take a
(15:57):
look at the big action tomorrow. Can miss you can
pull the big upset against Oregon? No, can Michigan pull
the big upset against Oregon? How is Ohio State pen
staking a go the big big day that is just
hours away? Coming up next right here, Jason to Mike

Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven

Speaker 1 (17:15):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. Yes, Sir, Live from the Tirack dot
com studios. End of the third quarter Minnesota, Denver ninety
one point eighty five. So boy, do we have some
kind of fourth quarter coming your way in that one.
But time now to take a look at all the
(17:36):
big goings on in college football tomorrow. Nobody better to
talk to than longtime college football insider, the owner, editor,
proprietor of college.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
Footballnews dot com.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
You're one stop shopping for college football, all the previews,
all the picks, all the prognostications.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
He is on Twitter at Pete Futech.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
He is a man who has once been called the
chick Gandle of college football analysts.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
It is Pete fu Tech Pete, what's happening?
Speaker 5 (18:03):
But I'm assuming that's good. I just feel accept it.
I take all those sort of comparisons out here. Who
it is, this accept them at this point is positive?
Speaker 2 (18:13):
All right? So listen, we take a look at tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
There's no bigger game than Ohio State and Penn State
and you know, when I look at this game, Pete,
it's pretty simple for me. I have seen Ryan Day
and Ohio State win games like this, big regular season
games pretty regularly the last few years. I haven't seen
James Franklin Penn State do this in quite a long time.
I'm not picking Penn State until I see him do it.
Speaker 4 (18:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (18:40):
You know, first of all, the whining over your your
beloved stations play Oh dear god, they have to play
the game in noon. Oh no, you know this should
be weird. How do you disrespect us like this? It's
like the silliest thing ever. Like, Okay, yeah, we thought
there was gonna be another World Series game.
Speaker 4 (18:58):
There's not.
Speaker 5 (18:59):
So Sorry State, pend State, you're playing at noon, It'll
be fine.
Speaker 4 (19:03):
You know.
Speaker 5 (19:04):
It's blame Aaron Judges. Aaron Judge's fault, you know, for
for all this, you know whatever. But here's the thing
about the James Franklin. I'm sort of a James Franklin apologist,
even though, you know, after everything that happened in the
last week or so, everything, but his biggest sin is
he can't beat Ohio State or National Championship, good Michigan.
(19:26):
That's you know, it's kind of like all those well
he couldn't beat Alabama, Well, yeah, because Alabama's really awesome,
you know so, but he's had a couple of those
over the years, but those were more in the urban
myrish eras. But you're right, if you look at it,
if you look at his resume, it's pretty good.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
You know, kick the.
Speaker 5 (19:45):
Bowl games out of the mix because those are always
fifty to fifty games and weird things. But he doesn't lose,
you know, tooth of my you know, my Ryan Derikan.
He doesn't lose to the you know, the Purdues of
the world. You know, they lose to the big shots.
And Ohio State's the best team in college foot and
so all of a sudden, they're going to come out
this week and move to Ohouse State. Oh James Franklin
can't be well, yeah, because Ohio State's really awesome. I mean,
(20:08):
Penn State isn't you know, they're gonna go to the
college football playoffs. But we'll see, they don't have they
don't have it. This is more of an indictment on
Ohio State if they don't win this by ten tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (20:19):
A lot of action going on in the Big Ten
with interest nationally, Indiana, any chance they get caught looking
past Sparty at the schedule.
Speaker 5 (20:28):
Ahead, how about getting looking past they do get Curtis
Rourke back their their quarterback. Look, there ain't no this.
It's kind of it's always funny as you know, you
think it just kind of assume that all programs have
you know, some season somewhere in nineteen five or something
where you know, they blew through a bunch of you know,
high school teams and you know, doctors colleges and head
(20:50):
an eleven win season. Indiana's never had a ten win season,
you know. So for all the you know, yes, they
have not played anybody. Michigan State's actually probably they're tough
this game yet, I mean they have not played the
Ohio States. They're Michigan their period depending states of the world.
They they not played Anyboddy, But what are you doing
against the schedule that's just not that great. You just
(21:12):
beat them up badly, and that's what Indiana's doing. So,
you know they for all the everyone's trying to knock
them a little bit, and I know I just did.
But eight nos, eight no, and it's it's Indiana football.
There's no yucking this young it's just that, Yeah, they
they lose this tomorrow, Okay, they're still really good. At
some point reality is gonna come to breakfast and they're
(21:33):
gonna play someone really awesome. But yeah, it'd be kind
of fun to see him, you know, going to the
Michigan game with a you know, the puck on their
stick and the chance to go uh you know, keen
and oh for the first time in program history.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
Oh sure, in all the video of Michael Pennix Junior
and Anthony Thompson, you know, the only two times Indiana
has been good the last thirty five years. It'll be
a very short segment, but it'll still be fun seeing
video of those.
Speaker 5 (21:56):
So you you put Antoine Randall Ell in your right.
Speaker 2 (22:02):
Sorry, it'll be twelve seconds long.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
It'll be one Michael Pennix play, one Anthony Thompson run
and an Antoine. Sorry, twelve second live. But it'll still
be fun to see one.
Speaker 5 (22:12):
Or two games here there or they just went off.
But I'm old enough to remember that Anthony Thompson Michigan game.
But you're right, this is not a program. What's what's
the famous story at the Leak Course? So when he
was coaching there, they scored first against Ohio State, and
he made the whole team come out there and you know,
pose in front of the scoreboard when they're up three
nothing and they look like three. I mean, that's that's
(22:36):
Indiana is used to doing that in basketball, but football,
you know, for a while.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
All right, now you mentioned Michigan. It looks like their
quarterback plan is in place. Now it's gonna be Davis
Warren with Org being sort of the change up guy,
which is probably what it should have been to begin the season.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
But this is a big task tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
Against Oregon, and I know that we're still sort of
believe in Oregon is great, but still a little bit.
I have a tough time even that, even though I'm
a little suspicious about Oregon, I have a tough time
seeing Michigan coming out and then pull and shock in
the world with an upset here.
Speaker 5 (23:08):
Yeah, we could, because if we're we're you know, you
guys are out there, we're men of the pac twelve
of Because this is a time of year when Oregon
usually goes to Arizona and plays you know, one of
the Arizona teams that like, you know, eleven o'clock at night,
East Coast time and then they just just go in
the tank when they really shouldn't against the team that
they shouldn't. It just they're overdue to go Oregon and
(23:31):
have one of those games where it just doesn't work. Uh,
but you just just mentioned it. I don't know who's
playing quarterback. I guess for Michigan, I mean, like, how
how are you Michigan. How did the Indiana have Curtis
Rourke and Michigan doesn't like It's it's so inexcusable how
they did not use the portal after coming off a
national championship to get just a real quarterback who could
(23:54):
step in and just be competent because they can't grow
and the from gonna have to be unless they get
that offensive line lad up and they're starting to pound
away like they did against USC, they don't have a shot,
I mean, because they just can't get that offense going.
Oregon's defense is good. I mean, I guess Dylan Gabriel's fine.
(24:15):
He's probably gonna win the Heisman because no one else
is gonna be worth it. But I guess, but young
with you, I'm not. There's a couple of those games
this weekend, the double digit home dogs and conference play,
and this is one of them where if we're talking
next week and I don't know if Michigan wins, but
at least makes it closer than double digits, I would
not be shocked.
Speaker 4 (24:36):
How about the fact that we've got a ranked SMU
team battling against Pitt this week? Do we get to
see some Eric Dickerson highlights?
Speaker 5 (24:44):
No, you're not gonna see the game. Where is it
being played? It's like on the ACC network. Who has that?
I mean, I.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
Actually I have the ACC network. I watch AZC network
every week. Pete, you should come to buyouts.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
You stream it like did?
Speaker 5 (25:00):
I might have to? But look, this is this is
the equivalent if you look at the rest of the
SMU schedule. This is it. I mean, unless they whiff this,
they're gonna be favored the rest of the way after this. Now,
Pitt has a couple in nasty. I think Pitt has
Clemson to play. I think they have Clemson and somebody
else nasty that they have to deal with. I think
(25:21):
it ecues, but they have a couple of nasty games left.
SMU somehow misses everybody this year on the schedule. They
kind of did them a solid in their first year
in and lo and behold they win tomorrow, that's gonna
be an eleven and one SMU team probably. And this
is where it gets really funky is because with these
you know, conferences with forty seven teams in it, Miami, Clemson,
(25:44):
and SMU, they don't play each other, you know, so
you probably you might have like Clemson and Miami, you know,
playing for the ACC Championship, SMU going to eleven and
one and no way, no how, no chance. It's the
college Football Playoff Committee. And to leave out an eleven
wins Power five program. So this is kind of the
equivalent of when it those around a thirty two games
(26:07):
on the college football Playoff a little bit for SMU.
Speaker 1 (26:10):
Who knew last week and a game where I watched
the fourth quarter of it, And if people watch the
fourth quarter of this game, they would they would ban
SMU and Duke college.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
Football that fourth quarter and over.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Time that said college football back seventy five years that
was absolutely bare.
Speaker 5 (26:28):
Sometimes. Look, I'm not joking here when I say the
College Football Playoff Committee, It's made up of people who
have real lives and job. We're doing things other than
you know, watching the end of games like that, Bill,
they're gonna be locked in here going forward, but they
don't see everything. That's one of those where they'll see
it on paper. Oh, they'd be a duke team that
(26:49):
you know is still pretty much in the black. But
you're right, if you saw that, you're like, I don't
want anything to do with either of these, I don't
want to do anything with football, and if ever agains,
but hey, sometimes sometimes any landing what you can walk
away from is a good one. And hey, again we're
talking about SMU here. You know, we're not if this
if SMU pitch tomorrow was Miami Clemson, it would be
(27:13):
front and center, you know, than the biggest of networks
and you know, the night game and all that kind
of stuff. But sm you pit, we'll see, and it
turns out this might be for a college football playoff spot.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
Now I'll ask you this, Pete, that just not not
to have the team specifically, But if I said to
you right now, knowing how the college football season has
gone so far, we got about a month or so left.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
If I said to you.
Speaker 1 (27:36):
How many non Power five let's say teams, right, how
many not the old power fobacy with the conferences changing
every eight seconds, how many of the non power conference
playoff berths are there going to be?
Speaker 2 (27:48):
Is there two once? One? Oh?
Speaker 5 (27:51):
Just Boise State, Boise State or the less Boise State
whifts somewhere. Whoever gets Kulinari has got two losses, So
you'd have for this to forget two in, you'd have
to have It's not gonna be a little Easiana, you know.
If it's it's just not they're not gonna get high
en up. Now, with that said, if Boise State wins out,
they brottled San Diego State nights and for some weird
(28:12):
reason gave Ashton Jankee like fifty carries when they didn't
need to. But if if Boise State wins out and
they beat let's say UNLB again in the Mountain West Championship, okay, yeah,
the Mountain West schedule isn't that great. Boise State's one
loss was at Oregon. Everyone kind of forgets this. It
was a that was a firefighter, like, oh man, Oregon
(28:33):
must suck in. They got they beaten up by this
jant guy who ran for two hundred and forty yards
and I think it was thirty seven to thirty four.
I think was the final score at Oregon. If that's
Boise State's only lost and they're twelve and one Mountain
West champs, try what out, They're gonna be the four seed?
Speaker 6 (28:51):
I think.
Speaker 5 (28:52):
I think the Big twelve is gonna beat itself up.
I think there's a couple of losses in there for
Wiowa State and BYU. I think Kansas State probably rides
is up in all this, and you're gonna probably have
a two lost Big twelve champion. I think there's a
real shot that you're gonna have Boise State as the
four seed, and then your five seed becomes like the
Oregon Ohio State Big Ten Championship loser, your six seed
(29:15):
becomes like Notre Dame, your seven becomes the SEC team two,
and all of a sudden, you know your Power five
Conference champions Big twelve team might be an eight or
nine seed in this whole thing.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
He's on Twitter at Pete feutech That is at Pete
feu Tech. The website is college footballnews dot com. All
the analysis, all the picks you could want. Is there again?
A guy who has been called the Swede Risburg of
college football analysts wows Pete feu Tech Pete is always buddy,
enjoying the games, my friend, we'll talk to you.
Speaker 5 (29:45):
Not touching the end of that one. I have no clue,
but I'm just gonna let it go in there. Sim's okay.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
I mean Pete dropped the eight Men Out reference with
us a couple of weeks ago, so I thought I
could go back to him with Chicken. He's let me
look up chick gandle in Sweet Risburg. Oh right, those
guys are mating Michael Rooker, right, yeah, sure yeah. And
Don Harvey, a guy who I saw picking out a
Christmas tree a couple of years ago, and I got tungued.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
I wanted to say, I know, oh my god, dude,
you you were Sweet Risburg. You were in die Hard too.
But I was like, oh, I wasn't ready to meet
Don Harvey. I can't believe that.
Speaker 1 (30:18):
I'm not trying to mean, uh, Tom, not to find
out what's trending in the wide world of sports from
a guy who was actually an extra and eight Men
Out he played for the Reds.
Speaker 2 (30:26):
It's Steve de Sager. He's gotten much trend.
Speaker 6 (30:29):
And that was a best of nine series. I believe
here was the best. Here we were clamoring for a
best of nine this past week or so sweede Risburg.
By the way, for your Chicago White Sox apparently did
play the next year after throwing the World Series, and
then everybody was taken out. Then the eight men were
literally out. As for college football, we had three games tonight.
(30:49):
They're now all three final because South Florida has just
won at Florida Atlantic forty four to twenty one, Yukon
six and three after beating Georgia State thirty four to
twenty seven and one half as one. At fifteenth rank
Boise State, Broncos rip San Diego State fifty six twenty four.
It was a twenty eight nothing lead in the second quarter.
Boise State seven and one on the season. This was
(31:10):
a Mountain West matchup. Boise State star running back Ashton
genty is up to twenty rushing touchdowns this season. He
has over fifteen hundred yards on the ground in eight games.
Thirty one carries tonight one hundred and forty nine yards
and two scores. Saturday on Fox TV, it's number three
Penn State hosting number four Ohio State noon Eastern time.
(31:31):
Penn State quarterback Drew Aller is expected to play after
last week's leg injury. By the way, Grand Canyon University
within two years will join the Mountain West Conference, which
is losing five members to the new PAC twelve, including
Boise State soon. The Phoenix school was going to join
the West Coast Conference, especially for basketball, but Gonzaga is
leaving that league for the PAC twelve to the NFL.
(31:52):
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was cleared to play Sunday. He'd
missed practice Wednesday and Thursday with back end knee problems.
Saints quarterback Derek Carr will return Sunday. He's missed three
games with an oblique injury, but was able to practice
all this week. New Orleans has lost six in a
row in the NBA. We have two late games, currently
eight minutes to go at Minnesota, it's the Timberwolves edging
(32:14):
the Nuggets one hundred to ninety six, and it's mid
third quarter at Portland Thunder at four and oh. This year,
leading against the Blazers eighty three seventy eight, New York
won easily at Detroit. Boston now five and one, was
a winner at Charlotte Cleveland six and oh beat Orlando
and the Lakers won at Toronto one thirty one, one
(32:34):
twenty five, Anthony Davis thirty eight points. Lebron James had
twenty seven points, ten assists and no turnovers.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve O.

Speaker 1 (33:01):
Fourteen and three record on the line now, Jason and

The Jason Smith Show with My best Friend Mike Harmon
Live from the tyrack dot Com Studios, Denver, Minnesota is
still six after go in the fourth quarter. The offense
has slowed down slightly, but Denver leads the t Wolves
one O six, one oh two, looking for a little
bit of playoff revenge, but again still six minutes left
(33:45):
to go the markeee Game of the Night on ESPN.
So Mike and I do this every single week, except
when something like Game one of the World Series happens
and Freddie Freeman hits a walk off home run. We
did not get to do our Upset Special Picks of
the Week left week, So here we are now Upset
Special Picks fourteen and three on the season. I'm feeling
(34:07):
the pressure. I got one in college, I got one
in the NFL. I'm feeling it. I'm feeling it, but
I'll kick things off. I'll tell you where I'm going
college football. I know I just made fun of this game,
but really, the fourth quarter in overtime was absolutely awful.
But I'm gonna take Duke getting twenty one at Miami,
all right, Manny Diaz, former sports under PA, terrific defensive
(34:32):
head coach. Right, his defense is really good at Duke.
They've played really well this season. They have overachieved. They
keep their games close no matter who the opponent is.
They were one two point conversion away or one made
field goal away in the fourth quarter when they missed
three of pulling the upset against SMU. It's a homecoming
(34:53):
for him, former head coach at Miami, and you know
his dad was the mayor of Miami. Twenty One points
is a lot of points to get up to a
team that has trouble putting teams away. As good as
Miami is, boy boy, they play a lot of close
games against a lot of teams. They should win by
one hundred. Yeah, maybe they're a little bit more motivated tomorrow. Hey,
the former head coach of the team is coming in.
But look these guys. None of these guys have any
(35:15):
history with him. Many Diez was gone before that happened.
But he's a good defensive coach. Twenty One points is
a lot. Gimme Duke getting the three touchdowns.
Speaker 4 (35:23):
Look at you and yeah, you went big game hunting there.
It makes my three and a half point spread seem
so small and insignificant. I feel so weak and ineffective.
But I'm still I'm gonna tex South Carolina to spring
the upset on Texas A and M A and M.
Coming off the big emotional win over LSU and a
(35:44):
lot of peacocking thereafter by Elcoing Company. I'm gonna look
for Shane Beemer. They not had a monster season and
only four and three on the campaign, but a home
date and a big spot on a Saturday night. Yeah,
give me the game.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
Cocks with you, Oh boy? College football Texas A and M.
They're falling out it to the NFL now.
Speaker 1 (36:05):
And I can say this because Justin Frostburg's not here tonight.
You're traveling with traveling with the Chargers. Although maybe I
don't know. Frostburg usually gets upset when I picked. I
don't know why he gets upset because I'm usually right,
but he would be upset about this because my upset
special in the NFL. Give me the Browns getting two
over the Chargers. Browns are at home. They are feeling
really good after last week. It's a new era. They've
(36:27):
unleashed an offense that has really underrated weapons. Jamis Winston
made it work. Cedric Tillman looks like he's a dude.
Elijah Moore Suddenly you know why they gave up a
second round pick for him. He had a team high
in targets. Oh, by the way, he don't forget they're
paying Jerry Judy thirteen million dollars a year. They have
a lot of underrated weapons.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
They get chubbed back. The good times are.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
Going to continue for the Browns until the NFL gets
about a month worth of tape on Jameis Winston in
the new offense what he likes to do. And the
Chargers still have trouble scoring. This is still an offense
that finds it differenticult putting points on the board. This
is a really good defense in Cleveland. They are at
home and it's going to be a struggle for the Chargers.
It'll be close, but I won't need the points, but
(37:10):
I'll take them because you know, why not give me
the Browns. They upset the Chargers, they win at twenty
three to seventeen.
Speaker 4 (37:15):
Look at you getting after And I got a couple
on the board that really intrigued me. One of them
is the game that got flex to Sunday Night Football.
Forty six and a half is your total Minnesota minus five.
Joe Flacco under center for the Colts, and we've seen
the last few weeks and over the course of the
season the back end of that Minnesota defense can be had.
And I think the veteran savvy and the weapons being
(37:38):
deployed with Jonathan Taylor back in the backfield, gives Indianapolis
the opportunity to go in sting Florenz in company, you know.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
And that's the thing is that that's a great point
about the Vikings defense. As good as they have played,
they are vulnerable, vulnerable to to big games and past
their vulnerable in the secondary. And I can see easily.
I can see the Colts put up a lot of
points there. Colts have some really good weapons too, man.
I mean you're talking about the happiest guys in the world.
You know, Josh Downs and Alec Pierce and and and
(38:09):
and you know Mitchell.
Speaker 4 (38:11):
Worked Mitchell and you know he's not that he's the
fourth guy.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
And yeah, yeah, I mean finally, you know you're able
to unveil these four really good wide receivers with a
threat of somebody you can actually get them the football.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
I mean, Josh Downs is terrific.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
And there's a week Look Reggie Wayne said, hey, he's
the best wide receiver in the draft last year. And
now something when you have somebody can throw the football
to him, you see why? Oh no, I love I
love this game. You know, want to love more is
I love the over? I love the over more than
forty six and a half. Yeah know, I'll take the
over in a big way on this one.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
I'll give you one more, uh one more as a
bonus seven point dog on the road. The crumbling Cincinnati
Bengals fall to the Raiders.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (38:50):
That that's getting out on a limb right there.
Speaker 4 (38:53):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (38:53):
They You think the season can't get works for the Bengals,
just wait till they lose to.
Speaker 4 (38:57):
The injuries in both of the running back room and
the receiving room. Not expected to have two principles there.
Give me the Raiders because they'll be able to get
after Joe Burrow behind a bad offensive line.
Speaker 1 (39:11):
