So I'll actually start to shuttling into the math here
on this to see if I can't find a more
definitive because the Spain one, really they were such prohibitive
favorites that the odds of that would have been fantastic
for you.

Now anymore, you know something, We'll get into a little
bit more tomorrow because tomorrow is a really big day, right,
Tomorrow's Tomorrow's the really big first star studied day, star
study of the World Cup. The United States playing their
first was a big deal, right for all of us here.
But tomorrow you got France, we got Holland, I mean
we have we have three big games, like you have
nine hours of great World Cup action coming coming your

way tomorrow. So tomorrow is gonna be a lot of fun, fantastic.
But like so far, I gotta say and look, you know,
and and so we'll say it tonight's people can steal
it for tomorrow, just really, just really quick. Uh, the
United States and Germany look like the two best teams
so far, and again we still have Argentina's got to
play tomorrow. Everything we saw, but so far it's early days.

You look at all the teams that have lost or tied,
you know, Spain, Brazil, and Belgium. Something, nobody's looked better
than the United States and Germany. And you can argue
United States has looked the best because Germany winning, yes,
seven to one, but you know, they're not playing They're
playing the team that's in the bottom five of the
World Cup, where whereas we're playing kind of a middle

you know, Perry is kind of a middle of the
pack team. Uh, you know, maybe a tiny bit lower,
you know, just below Argentina of those of that in
that gaggle of teams in South America that were just
you know, below Argentina. So you can argue the United
States and Germany the two they've looked the two best
teams so far in the World Cup. Just think about that.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Talk about cohesiveness and strategically all in alignment. Right with
the US, what was it thirteenrom returning players from the
last time out. The others were notified by email to
beat it. I still like that in PO. I mean,
there's just no U. It's a no nonsense kind of
approach to it. But yeah, that's been the curiosity, and

we've got a lot more to it when we're talking
about travel and everything else that flows into this in
terms of logistics. But thus far with those three heavyweights
tomorrow still to come, Yeah, I would have to agree.
Watching these matches, you've had the underdogs who've been able
to control or at least frustrate the hell out of
the heavy favorite. The Spain game was huge because they're

talking the entire time, well, we're probably not going to
see Jamaal, they're not going to need in he's coming
back off the injury, and they think they can wait.

quickly things change?

You still do the name game. Brunson, Brunson, bruns in

Oh Brunson bronze. All right, so it's appropriate that you
say fee five clearly. So look, here we are two
days after the greatest NBA Finals in the history of
the sport. In your opinion, I think it's documented. Uh,
And there's been so much on both sides. And boy,
(04:53):
I gotta tell you, the Spurs did a lot of
talking for a team that went out in five games.
They did a lot of talking, a lot lot of
talking about, Hey, we're good, We're good, We're good. The Knicks,
the team that was up, did no talking, which is insane.
A team from New York did no talking. The Spurs
did a lot of talking. Why did the Knicks win
in five games? Why did the Spurs lose a series

that seem like, well, the Spurs are the better team
coming in. All the best team we were told, all
the best teams are in the West, Becky Ammon, all
the best teams are the West. It's really simple, right,
because you want to take everything out, I'm going to
tell you something. You're gonna say, Oh no. That really
sums it all up one sentence. The Knicks were ready
for the moment, the Spurs were not. That's why the
(05:36):
Knicks won. That's why they won in five right, go
all the way back. I told you there was a
reason I wanted to play the Spurs. If they play
the Thunder, the Thunder are the experience champs from a
year ago going for another one. The Knicks are the newbies.
How do we make this work?
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Right?
Speaker 1 (05:50):
What happens? But you play the Spurs and suddenly the
roles are reversed because the Spurs they're in the playoffs.
They're ahead of schedule, right, they were all arriving, They're
doing everything at once. Nick had been through the Wars
in the Eastern Conference finals, and no, they hadn't been
to the NBA finals, but they have played much bigger
stages in the last couple of years, and the Spurs did.
Look from the Spurs side, they were up by double
(06:12):
digits after the first quarter of every game. They were
up big, so it's not like they didn't have the talent.
It's not like they didn't have the game plan going in.
They were up by double digits at the end of
the first quarter of every game. But the Spurs were
not ready for the moment because when the game counted,
because the Spurs are like the are the guy that says, well,
(06:34):
if the MLB games were seven innings, my team would
be really good. Yeah, but you know what they're not.
Games are nine innings. So if your bullpen's terrible, that's
part of the game. The last eighteen minutes is a
really big deal. And you watch the Knicks every single
game and throughout the play, Yeah, we're down big, doesn't matter,
we're reeling you in. I knew at halftime when it
was a five point game. I said, that's in fact,
(06:54):
one of the people at the restaurant says, ah, Spurs
are up by five at halftime, they win this all
of a sudden game six. Things get nervous. And I
turned to her and I said, and I really coldly,
I just said, this ain't going to six games. You're
a great said birthday dinner. Yeah no, no, this wasn't
her good way. It wasn't oh no, no, this was
just a guess it doesn't matter. It's still yours. Came
(07:15):
out to me and said, oh, if you lose this
game and then the Spurs go, they go back. Game
sixy go not going to be a game six. It's
not a five point lead at halftime. You probably scared
the room night. You've seen the games. The Knicks know
when they're down, they know the plays to make right.
You see all the cropped videos put together, all the
(07:35):
game stuff, all the same, They're gonna give it to us.
They're gonna get stick with what we have, stick with
what we have. They have one of the best closes
in the game in Jalen Brunson, who is absolutely phenomenal,
and look well lot more on Brunson, But the Knicks
knew when the moment got got to that point it
was not too big for them. Because there's no other
reason to explain how the Spurs, who were good enough
(07:56):
to be out to these big leads after thirty minutes,
gave it up in the last eighteen minutes And go
back to what the Spurs, their entire attitude the entire
finals has been, We're non in trouble, right, What did
I tell you about I think I would like the
Spurs to understand that you just lost the first two
games at home. You're in a lot of trouble. I
think you want to understand you're down three games to one,
but what did we get? Mitch Johnson saying we've been
(08:16):
the better team. You know, we've done it to ourselves
the first four games of this series. Dude, you're down
three to one. Okay, you need to have a little
bit more sense of urgency than that. Wemby saying we
all know we're coming back to win this series. Wenby thought,
we're just gotta go do our thing. What are you
gonna say we're done? Yeah, no, no, no. De Aaron
Fox saying we'll be all right. We didn't really have
a practice before Game five, but we talked about video stuff.
(08:38):
We know what to do. We got it. We'll be
all right. They never understood. They thought we can just
continue to do what we did during the entire season
and things are going to go our way. This is
the NBA Finals and you were playing the best team
in the league, a team that wound up sixteen and three,
that went hot knife through butter through everybody, including you,
(08:58):
and you never thought you were in trouble, right, even
to wind it out for Mitch Johnson. Dude, you gotta
put the ball in Dylan Harper's hands, right, I said
Friday night, I said, I'm gonna give Mitch Johnson some
free advice. Here, flip the minutes with Dylan Harper and
d Aaron Fox. Daron Fox has killed you this series.
Dylan Harper is ready for the moment. He's a rookie. Now,
he did miss the free throws at the end, but
they're not in the game without him. I mean, he's
(09:20):
the one guy that can make buckets. You got to
switch his minutes and give him Mitch john No, I'm
not gonna cut baite on Daron Fox. This is how
we've done it all year. And that's the whole thing.
The Spurs all thought, this is how we did it
in the first round, How he did in the second round,
how did in the third round. We don't need to
change anything. We just need to do our thing. Guys, Guys,
you see what's happening to you in the second half
(09:40):
of games. It's almost like the Spurs thought the second
half wasn't real basketball, Like the first thirty minutes when
they were playing great. Oh that was that was that's
what we needed to go. What happens when you get tired?
What happens when Wemby gets tired? What happens when he
plays way too many minutes and he can do anything
at the end of the game. What happened the last
eighteen minutes of the game of the biggest thing? Yeah,
but we need to do the middle of the third
quarter on it was now we're giving the game away
(10:03):
to the mix. It's like, well, well, we shouldn't have
done that. Nuh guys, you never thought you were and
you were not ready for the moment.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
Well, the biggest thing is I've got to separate between
on court and what they're giving you at a press conference.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
Right, what's what was the old ad?
Speaker 2 (10:16):
I don't even remember what the everybody's saying the same thing.
What are they gonna say that we're panicked? You know,
we wish through the graveyard.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
That wasn't. That wasn't. That wasn't. We all sat down
and talked on the plane and really understood each other
and got where we were coming from. This was just, Hey,
we had a we had a couple of services conversations,
but we're good.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
But the way you're stating it is after game one,
after Game two that they're they're supposed to immediately go,
I don't know, those guys are really good, And no,
you're not doing that until the series is over. You're
giving nothing. Even then they're not conceding anything. They're walking
off the court and telling you to beat it. Go celebrate,
uh and have a good time. But for for the Spurs,
(10:54):
and and look, I had the great conversation Ryan Hollins
with me ten years in the league, our old guy
with our you know, your cheap out competitions of who's
wearing less money on them in a given day, et cetera.
Working with the Rockets now even got them to say
it right that they were going to take the money
off the court. When it came to de Aaron Fox, right,
he was your experienced guy, Well how much experience did
(11:16):
he have? And he was the guy that Mike Brown
criticized twenty four hours before being fired from his job
after being Coach of the Year in Sacramento. So they're
gonna they're to love when that contract extension kicks in
for Daron Fox next year. Well, but yeah, you've already
seen like there's been a distancing, right the unfollowing of socials,
which take it all with a grain of salt. But
(11:36):
you also had the owner's kid chiming in on a thing. Yeah,
enjoy your last army supposed was mad mad one didn't
get the minutes he meets, but also bad clapping back
on socials there, so like there's there's some stuff behind
the scenes. That's jes dating, which means you have to
have the United Front as inane as it may have
sounded each and every time. Yeah, we're fine, we're killing ourselves.
(11:58):
There's no denying. They killed themselves repeatedly, right, everybody could
throw the stat out. Yeah they led for seventy two percent,
All right, that's all finding good. If you get obliterated
in the other twenty eight percent, it really doesn't matter, now,
does it. And we watched it time and time again,
the heavy minutes on dearon Fox. That's the other part
for San Antonio folks. Whichever camera I'm looking at, here's
(12:19):
the old rule of thumb. If your guy is in
between the white lines, I don't care if he's got
a power rating of six percent or ninety eight. Okay,
if he needs to go replenish on some fruit. It
doesn't matter if he's in between the white lines. We
can only evaluate his play and dearon Fox was terrible.
From dealing to Buddy, he made what one shot that
mattered the entire series Otherwise giveaways, bad decisions, turnovers all
(12:42):
the way through. And we could talk about Dylan Harper.
He was the best, most consistent player they had for
the entire series.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
Whatever.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
When ben Yama's final stat line was and the super
cuts of those are flying every which way, Mitch Johnson
wasn't ready for the moment? Would I be I'm not
calling for him to be fired, but would I be
surprised if they suddenly.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
Did a knee jerk thing?
Speaker 2 (13:03):
With all of this other stuff swirling in the background,
Aaron Fox's contract and all these you got a lot
of people you need to make happy, which is why
the ahead of schedule concept is also nonsense.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
There ain't no guarantee you're getting back. I don't care
how great this guy, but usually but this should have
been the quintessential because you used to hear that used
to be this way for a long time in the NBA,
but not really anymore, but it used to be the
longest time. Is you need to learn to lose before
you right, And this is what he used for Smith,
saying that in seventy one s Orton Jordan had to
learn how to lose before he learned how to win.
The Pistons, the Lakers, all these teams, and it should
(13:37):
be that way for the Spurs because they did everything
all at once. There was no We've been through some
playoff wars. It's been no playoffs, no playoffs, no players,
NBA Finals, right, so this should be that That's the
one silver lining I should say for him was that
the Knicks had to learn how to lose before they won, right.
We saw that the last couple of years. This should
be the same thing for San Antonio. But they got
a lot of problems. Man, they got And the fact is,
(13:59):
and when when you go into the offseason you're dissecting
this NBA Finals and now everything went wrong, it's leadership
on down, right. But forget, we haven't even gotten into
the wemby immaturity and dirty part of it yet. But
just think how it all collapsed for them on so
many levels. And now you have players are mad and
you don't know what's going on behind closed doors. This
(14:20):
should be a dynasty in the making, and instead you
wonder how many guys are going to be there next year, Right,
Dylan Harper's got to play, He's got to start. Okay,
Steph Castle's got to play, He's got to start. Okay.
I know you can in positionless NBA, but can you
start both those guys in the Aaron Fox don't think
you can. Right, It's a thing man like. It should
be one of those learned to lose before you win.
But with the Spurs, they were so not ready for
(14:41):
this moment. There's a lot of emotional baggage coming off
of this going in next year because all of us
just been no, we're good, we just have to play
our game. This is the finals. It's different, right, It's
absolutely different. And they never understood that. Lessons didn't grow
and certainly gamed the game. You'd think, all right, we've
done this before. What needs to be different? How do
we stop the bleeding?
Speaker 2 (15:02):
Because you don't need to play great basketball, And that's
the biggest thing of all of these collapses, Like you
didn't have to play great. You just couldn't be catastrophically bad.
You couldn't match the early inefficiencies in an aptitude of
the Knicks, which is what they did, right, I mean
as poorly as the Knicks plade. It's like, all right,
you're not distancing yourself. It's just hovering in that twelve
(15:24):
to fifteen as we've watched in a lot of these games.
Obviously the twenty nine is the outlier, but just talking
about the other games that you gave away, it's like,
that's nothing. That is two minutes of a game clock.
The fact that you kept getting caught in the Jalen
Brunson thing. And this is where you get into rules
going forward in terms of that landing halo thing and
what it's become.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
How many times do you go to the free throw
line for for these shots? At least three?
Speaker 2 (15:48):
Yeah, right, but every time you get him in the air.
And I know that's the old rule of hey, you
got the guy in the air, you can do whatever
the hell you want. You should not be able to
jump into the guy once he's he's off his feet.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
Well, am I.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
Really jumping towards the basket? No, I'm jumping towards him
who's off to the side of me, which is the
bruns of thing. And look, you take the rules as
they are and interpret them and get your advantage. I
don't fault a good strategy, but there's got to be
some some looking into how a lot of this stuff
gets work. Because that series, look knicks, we're gonna win
that series, regardless it was a poorly officiated series. By
(16:25):
the way, Scott Foster failed as the Extender again. The
Extender well eleven and O their last eleven games and
the playoffs with him is the I almost wanted investigation
at this if I.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
Saw, but after Jalen Brunson got the trophy handed to
Scott Foster, who held it up and then had I
feel like there's some questions that need to be answered there. Well,
they did show they did foul cut out. I mean,
what else you want that fouled cut out of the game.
He's in foul trouble the entire game. Again, he's scored
half a point, So I think, I think if you're
the Spurs, advantaged Spurs or Matt.

But okay, I don't know the way Kat was playing,
don't know how much of an advantage you gave.

was in for the layup, but they didn't do the
proper at it because that's when you show the stumbling
newborn giraffe, stumbling.

Bumbling fun sumbo, which is what that kind of looked like,
stumbling bumbling fum. Now, I tell you what, though, I
just real quick, I'm just the bruns and method to
the madness. I want the videotape of him practicing that
hard stop pullback and how many I would love to
see if he had a counter of how many times

he's done that, say just since he became an NBA player,
because that is unstoppable. It's like, right, you're a moment,
your momentum as a defender, you're just in no man
slap because either you get caught and you reach back
and you fall, or he's got ample shooting space and
now he's got a clear lane to throw it up.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
Yeah, crazy again. You know, not a great day for
the Jalen Brunson is too short to win a championship.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
But but to be fair, Jay Wright said that you
go all the way through. He was a second round pick.
I mean there's a lot of gms. I counted, no
fewer than at least what we got two, four, six,
eight nine guys.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
Including the New York but still it's a still tough run.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
Executive just saying we've got about a third of the
league where guys that were employed of as GM's have
been in their positions for at least eight years in
the NBA that all the didn't didn't grab him as
the number one guy, So you know, that seemed to
be a consensus. So if that becomes the thing that
you want to put on your back to where most
folks can't do that for eight years.
Speaker 1 (22:16):
Now, the thing is to really, you know, help put
a bow on this. As we are into parade week here, yes,
say goodbye my lover. Look, you want to take a
look at the two superstars in this series, right, Jalen
Brunson and Victor wembin Yama, and you have one guy
who came through this with all sorts of criticism on
(22:37):
him and carried him And I would say this about anybody,
you can't argue with this who carried himself with an
incredible amount of class. And Jalen Brunson didn't do any talking,
I mean until this this video came out about the
party afterwards, I mean Lemby okay, but during the finals,
like right right after Game four when the Knicks won
that incredible comeback where you know he had the tip
(23:00):
in the first thing Jalen Brunson said was I want
to talk about a kid that I got to talk
to I'm in the Make a Wish program who passed away,
and he first thing he wanted to say was I
was thinking about him talking to him, you know, out
to his family, all the talking, all all the criticism,
and and you know that's something that he that he
talks about first coming off that game. When the end
(23:21):
of Game five happened, you see it, he's not in
the game because with a defensive lineup break, Jim Brunson's
on the bench. The Knicks win the bleeping title, which
he came to New York for and he gave back money.
He's the guy that gave back money, you know, gave
back human moneys, lots of human moneys to millions of
human money. And what's the first thing he did was
I walked over to shake Mitch Johnson's hand and hug him,
(23:44):
right and now, so you take a look at that,
because that's what people, you know, to talk about the
the court stuff for Brunson. A lot of the haters
a lot of that. I go, well, you know, obviously,
you haven't watched the Knicks. You haven't watched them play.
You haven't watched him do absolutely everything for this team
for the better part of the last four years. You
haven't seen him make unstoppable shots in the final three
minutes of games when he shouldn't be able to get
(24:04):
his own shot off. Yet he's shorter than Steph Curry
and he gets his own shot off and Curry doesn't.
But the amount of class with which he's carried himself
is something that is not talked about enough.
Speaker 4 (24:15):
Right.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
Just look today on Good Morning America, right, the five
of them are on there, and you know they all
haven't had any sleep. Oh Gianna Nooby just looks like
a zombie. I felt bad. So what happened? Who had
to answer all the questions? Jaalb I'm the captain, I'll
answer the questions, right. Jameen bruns is answering the questions
like mccal bridges did a live stream that was insane.
We can't even play it back up. The problems. There's
a lot of problems. This guy. You can tell not
(24:37):
only forget about the on the court stuff, but the leader,
Like he's going to be a legend in New York forever.
It's it's Brunson Jeter Eli Like, that's that's the the
that's the level he has gotten to. Now you can
trust that with Wemby, who walked off the court at
the end, didn't shake hands, right, none of the Spurs
shook hands. Way to be classy, san Antonio Wemby, A
(24:57):
couple of the backups did well. Yeah, Luke Corney stayed
on the court to shake hands. He was like the
only one that I saw like, hey, this look Cornett
hicking hands, but like most of them walked off, wouldn't
shake hands at the end, And you got the crazy
ass press conference room at the end where he talked
about I learned a lesson. I learned a lesson. What
did he learn? He wasn't really sure, but he learned
a lesson. And then he ends with this really bizarre ending,
this Wemby out that he says that we're all kind
(25:19):
of scratching our heads, still wondering what it was like
two days later. Appreciate it all. See y'all never Preacha,
See y'all never went through the entire finals. And you
saw that Wemby's a dirty player. You saw some of
the plays he makes. Right, if there was a Game six,
the biggest conversation we'd be having right now is Webby
(25:40):
going to be able to play because that was a flagrant.
If you're gonna call Brunson for the flagrant earlier in
the series, the play from Game five where Wemby comes
down and sticks his foot and Brunson's landing spot, uh,
that's a flagrant. And that's the big conversation. We're having.
A guy who was the face of the league coming
into the NBA Finals. Now we're having more discussions on
whether he should be allowed to play because he's dirty.
(26:02):
He showed two things in the NBA Finals. That's that
he plays dirty and he's really immature, and that's it.
You can't really argue that, right because all the stuff
with Wemby and all the different things that went on,
he went from the people's choice to be the next
face of the league to now Wemby's a villain. Right,
So okay, let's see what kind of player Wenby be
(26:23):
comes out of this. Let's see what lesson he does learn,
because right again, those are the biggest things. Dirty and immature.
So if this was the real I have to learn
how to lose before I have to learn how to win.
I am hoping Wemby, who's going to be hopefully a
great thing for the league for the next ten plus years.
I mean, you're talking about a guy who's going to
be the hood order of the league. Like, hey, this
is Wemby's NBA, right, the guy is that good? He's
(26:46):
got to learn a little more class, and I hope
you he's a little bit more keeping his body, keeping composure,
because I would say, dude, do you want to be
Draymond Green or do you want to be Jason Tatum?
Or do you want to be Luca Do you want
to be SGA? Who do you want to be. Do
you want to be a guy that has dirty plays
all the time and not even a borderline banging dirty plays? No,
(27:07):
these dirty I'm Bruce Bowen sticking my foot out so
you can you can sprain your ankle. I'm gonna kick
it O Giano Nobi and maybe Hurd his name. Do
you want to be that guy? Is that the guy
you want to be? I get you're frustrated. I get
you were losing, but dude, you got to grow up
because this is if you if you want to say, hey,
I'm ready for this, I'm this is a man's game.
And and he looked like a young kid who just

couldn't control his emotions, didn't know how to lead, and
and and came through again with more dirty plays that
we're talking about being called and not called because the
NBA can't ignore that, right, it's too public to say, oh,
we're protecting when protecting Wemby, because you're gonna see an
avalanche of teams and stars saying you can't do this.
This is been and it's gonna be another big, bad
(27:49):
headline for the NBA. Oh we're protecting Wemby. It's one
thing to protect a guy like Jordan or sga, I'm
getting to the hoop. You're getting a beneficial foul call,
like a lot of superstars get those. But Wemby's going
out of his way to make dirty plays, not like im.
I'm banging down low with Karl Anthony Towns and here's
a bunch of elbows. He says, Oh that was That's
(28:10):
one thing. This is I'm going out of my way
to potentially you know injure Jalen Brunson or Anunobe, you're
throwing elbows and Mitchell Robinson whatever. It is like this
is where you know, you look at Wemby and you
see that the two way the stars carried themselves and
Brunson's one way and Wemby you go, wow, dude, you
got to really have a moment where you got to
figure out what kind of player do you want to
want to be? I mean, the autonobi was odd.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
Nothing happened, there's no contact there, but just it's it's
a video that goes into the montage in a lot
of those cases. I think you know, we talked about
it last week, Jason. A lot of retaliatory stuff like
you'd watch if you were I don't know, if your
kid's on the mound pitching and is getting racked, what
happens the next time you see someone maybe he catches
one in the ribs or you're throw or if you're
(28:55):
playing soccer, you feel like you got folled?
Speaker 1 (28:57):
What do you do?
Speaker 2 (28:58):
Immediately turn and you do the cat down? All right,
there's the bad play, and you watched it happen, and
that seemed to be the thing with Wemby. It's like
he was coming back in a lot of those cases
and giving back for what he thought he got. Now,
part of it is you're not strong enough. Probably watched
Mitchell Robinson and again we still want to know exactly.
Speaker 1 (29:17):
What happened to him out of the way for that
offense rebound.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
But but I mean that was a great play of like,
you're not playing the basketball, you're trying to hug the man,
and you never bothered to look for the basketball because
that should have been an easy Wemby rebound and instead
it goes straight into Mitchell Robinson's hand and he just
looks at him and like, ah, you didn't get me
off the spot and I got the ball, Like both
things you failed at the smell You later comment see
(29:41):
you never. I don't know if that's a translation thing.
I don't know, look i'm old. Maybe that's phraseology never
like what but maybe that's as it.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
Was all bizarre. His behavior was bizarre for him in
the final like all the quotes whatever.

And I know there was already the criticism before this
series of you know, he's only twenty two.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
He doesn't have to pretend he's smarter.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
It's like, look, man, there's a there's a language barrier,
there's a composure, there's a not given too much credit
because in some respects you might be giving away the
farm the more you're looking and saying, Wow, that guy's
really good and that guy's great. But the stuff on
the court, right, there were those one time that you
didn't even get the file call. Karl Anthony Towns did
(30:22):
the clear out up at the three point line and
elbowed him in the chin, clear as day, bloodied his lip.
No call, no intention. You know, nobody's calling for a
flagger there. It's like, all right, it's two big guys
play on, but everything else just gets magnified. And you
know why it gets magnified even worse because you're losing,
you're winning it becomes the well he does everything within
(30:45):
the order and the line. And this goes back to
again talking about that landing zone thing, which I think
really needs a very hard look at the way guys
get into and come down in space, because as soon
as you've got a guy committing no law longer are
you going straight up for a shot. You're either diving
into them, diving to the left, to the right, kicking
your legs out to draw some sort of contact. So
(31:08):
don't I don't think it's it's as easily adjudicated. And
when you're as big and gangly and odd, maybe still
growing into your body, maybe he might come back at
seven nine.

I don't know.

But like where you're coming down, you know, there's the
one where he looks down to the space that is
very damning, right, that's the one, and that's the bruns
and play that gets circled in all this, But it's
the curiosity coming forward. How much muscle does he put on?
You were able to bully Chet. This ain't Chet, No,
it's not Chet, This ain't Jet. Mitchell Robinson will beat

you down in the low post. And there's plenty of
other guys that are looking around in the NBA going
I'm about to get paid because I got a big
ass and I can beat this guy down low.

I just take one superstar the way they carry themselves,
the other one the way they carry themselves. I'm telling
you you can see the difference between the NIXT winning

won the title, James Dolan, Nick's owner, gave a big
speech to the team prior to the playoffs and talked
about how, hey give me the next ten weeks and
we walk out champions and it will change your life forever.
And you know, we'd heard about this over the course
of the weekend, and then the video went live a
few hours ago, and it's really inspiring to hear him,
(33:00):
a guy that's been much maligned. Owner of the Knicks,
James Dolan, was pretty I never thought, I said, wow,
look at Jim's a really good speech. Yeah. Now, but
one thing he focused on is something that there is
no way that this actually happened. Now. He asked the
Knicks to do something as part of the Hey give
me the next ten weeks, but yeah, there's no way
(33:22):
the Knicks actually did this.
Speaker 5 (33:23):
I had this idea that maybe you should give up
sex for the next ten weeks. You don't have to
give up sex for the next you.
Speaker 1 (33:32):
Know what spartans are. They denied themselves right so that
they could have an edge. Get the edge. Go home,
talk to your wives, tell them. Don't tell me you're
not gonna have sex, and don't tell them it was
my idea.
Speaker 5 (33:46):
But let them know what this is going to be like,
what are your commitment it's going to be like, and
how they're going to have to sacrifice to those concerns
at home. They can't come on the court, they can't
come into the practice for the next ten weeks. This
just gotta be all about us and about how we

in the NBA.

talking about how special it is. But as soon as

I need full commitment. So where is this gonna go?

do it as part of the team, as opposed with
your independent guy, whatever the case may.

another part difference between the two teams. Look the Knicks,
they're older families, Understand the moment, Understand what's at stake.
The Spurs are all young in their early twenties, how
much they understand the moment, right, So there's a bit

lot of these guys. Hey, there's another difference there, but overall,
like you're not telling you're not like an athlete in

his late twenties and early thirties. Hey, no sex for

so extract incrementally that actually seems pretty high. Yeah yeah,
yeah yeah, but.

To get them, well, especially with getting a draw in

pretty high.

So I'll actually start to shuttling into the math here
on this to see if I can't find a more
definitive because the Spain one, really they were such prohibitive
favorites that the odds of that would have been fantastic
for you.

Now anymore, you know something, We'll get into a little
bit more tomorrow because tomorrow is a really big day, right,
Tomorrow's Tomorrow's the really big first star studied day, star
study of the World Cup. The United States playing their
first was a big deal, right for all of us here.
But tomorrow you got France, we got Holland, I mean
we have we have three big games, like you have
nine hours of great World Cup action coming coming your

way tomorrow. So tomorrow is gonna be a lot of fun, fantastic.
But like so far, I gotta say and look, you know,
and and so we'll say it tonight's people can steal
it for tomorrow, just really, just really quick. Uh, the
United States and Germany look like the two best teams
so far, and again we still have Argentina's got to
play tomorrow. Everything we saw, but so far it's early days.

You look at all the teams that have lost or tied,
you know, Spain, Brazil, and Belgium. Something, nobody's looked better
than the United States and Germany. And you can argue
United States has looked the best because Germany winning, yes,
seven to one, but you know, they're not playing They're
playing the team that's in the bottom five of the
World Cup, where whereas we're playing kind of a middle
(02:52):
you know, Perry is kind of a middle of the
pack team. Uh, you know, maybe a tiny bit lower,
you know, just below Argentina of those of that in
that gaggle of teams in South America that were just
you know, below Argentina. So you can argue the United
States and Germany the two they've looked the two best
teams so far in the World Cup. Just think about that.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Talk about cohesiveness and strategically all in alignment. Right with
the US, what was it thirteenrom returning players from the
last time out. The others were notified by email to
beat it. I still like that in PO. I mean,
there's just no U. It's a no nonsense kind of
approach to it. But yeah, that's been the curiosity, and
(03:31):
we've got a lot more to it when we're talking
about travel and everything else that flows into this in
terms of logistics. But thus far with those three heavyweights
tomorrow still to come, Yeah, I would have to agree.
Watching these matches, you've had the underdogs who've been able
to control or at least frustrate the hell out of
the heavy favorite. The Spain game was huge because they're
(03:54):
talking the entire time, well, we're probably not going to
see Jamaal, they're not going to need in he's coming
back off the injury, and they think they can wait.
Speaker 1 (04:01):

Hey, look who's up and running in the mid sixties.
Hey you all enters the games like, ah see how
quickly things change?
Speaker 1 (04:09):
It was the Spain game. Surely Shirley Shirley fo furly

know the name game? You everybody did the name game.
Even if you're a parent you have kids, name game.
You know the name game. I know you the name game.
You still do the name game. Brunson, Brunson, bruns in

Oh Brunson bronze. All right, so it's appropriate that you
say fee five clearly. So look, here we are two
days after the greatest NBA Finals in the history of
the sport. In your opinion, I think it's documented. Uh,
And there's been so much on both sides. And boy,
(04:53):
I gotta tell you, the Spurs did a lot of
talking for a team that went out in five games.
They did a lot of talking, a lot lot of
talking about, Hey, we're good, We're good, We're good. The Knicks,
the team that was up, did no talking, which is insane.
A team from New York did no talking. The Spurs
did a lot of talking. Why did the Knicks win
in five games? Why did the Spurs lose a series
(05:14):
that seem like, well, the Spurs are the better team
coming in. All the best team we were told, all
the best teams are in the West, Becky Ammon, all
the best teams are the West. It's really simple, right,
because you want to take everything out, I'm going to
tell you something. You're gonna say, Oh no. That really
sums it all up one sentence. The Knicks were ready
for the moment, the Spurs were not. That's why the
(05:36):
Knicks won. That's why they won in five right, go
all the way back. I told you there was a
reason I wanted to play the Spurs. If they play
the Thunder, the Thunder are the experience champs from a
year ago going for another one. The Knicks are the newbies.
How do we make this work?
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Right?
Speaker 1 (05:50):
What happens? But you play the Spurs and suddenly the
roles are reversed because the Spurs they're in the playoffs.
They're ahead of schedule, right, they were all arriving, They're
doing everything at once. Nick had been through the Wars
in the Eastern Conference finals, and no, they hadn't been
to the NBA finals, but they have played much bigger
stages in the last couple of years, and the Spurs did.
Look from the Spurs side, they were up by double
(06:12):
digits after the first quarter of every game. They were
up big, so it's not like they didn't have the talent.
It's not like they didn't have the game plan going in.
They were up by double digits at the end of
the first quarter of every game. But the Spurs were
not ready for the moment because when the game counted,
because the Spurs are like the are the guy that says, well,
(06:34):
if the MLB games were seven innings, my team would
be really good. Yeah, but you know what they're not.
Games are nine innings. So if your bullpen's terrible, that's
part of the game. The last eighteen minutes is a
really big deal. And you watch the Knicks every single
game and throughout the play, Yeah, we're down big, doesn't matter,
we're reeling you in. I knew at halftime when it
was a five point game. I said, that's in fact,
(06:54):
one of the people at the restaurant says, ah, Spurs
are up by five at halftime, they win this all
of a sudden game six. Things get nervous. And I
turned to her and I said, and I really coldly,
I just said, this ain't going to six games. You're
a great said birthday dinner. Yeah no, no, this wasn't
her good way. It wasn't oh no, no, this was
just a guess it doesn't matter. It's still yours. Came
(07:15):
out to me and said, oh, if you lose this
game and then the Spurs go, they go back. Game
sixy go not going to be a game six. It's
not a five point lead at halftime. You probably scared
the room night. You've seen the games. The Knicks know
when they're down, they know the plays to make right.
You see all the cropped videos put together, all the
(07:35):
game stuff, all the same, They're gonna give it to us.
They're gonna get stick with what we have, stick with
what we have. They have one of the best closes
in the game in Jalen Brunson, who is absolutely phenomenal,
and look well lot more on Brunson, But the Knicks
knew when the moment got got to that point it
was not too big for them. Because there's no other
reason to explain how the Spurs, who were good enough
(07:56):
to be out to these big leads after thirty minutes,
gave it up in the last eighteen minutes And go
back to what the Spurs, their entire attitude the entire
finals has been, We're non in trouble, right, What did
I tell you about I think I would like the
Spurs to understand that you just lost the first two
games at home. You're in a lot of trouble. I
think you want to understand you're down three games to one,
but what did we get? Mitch Johnson saying we've been
(08:16):
the better team. You know, we've done it to ourselves
the first four games of this series. Dude, you're down
three to one. Okay, you need to have a little
bit more sense of urgency than that. Wemby saying we
all know we're coming back to win this series. Wenby thought,
we're just gotta go do our thing. What are you
gonna say we're done? Yeah, no, no, no. De Aaron
Fox saying we'll be all right. We didn't really have
a practice before Game five, but we talked about video stuff.
(08:38):
We know what to do. We got it. We'll be
all right. They never understood. They thought we can just
continue to do what we did during the entire season
and things are going to go our way. This is
the NBA Finals and you were playing the best team
in the league, a team that wound up sixteen and three,
that went hot knife through butter through everybody, including you,
(08:58):
and you never thought you were in trouble, right, even
to wind it out for Mitch Johnson. Dude, you gotta
put the ball in Dylan Harper's hands, right, I said
Friday night, I said, I'm gonna give Mitch Johnson some
free advice. Here, flip the minutes with Dylan Harper and
d Aaron Fox. Daron Fox has killed you this series.
Dylan Harper is ready for the moment. He's a rookie. Now,
he did miss the free throws at the end, but
they're not in the game without him. I mean, he's
(09:20):
the one guy that can make buckets. You got to
switch his minutes and give him Mitch john No, I'm
not gonna cut baite on Daron Fox. This is how
we've done it all year. And that's the whole thing.
The Spurs all thought, this is how we did it
in the first round, How he did in the second round,
how did in the third round. We don't need to
change anything. We just need to do our thing. Guys, Guys,
you see what's happening to you in the second half
(09:40):
of games. It's almost like the Spurs thought the second
half wasn't real basketball, Like the first thirty minutes when
they were playing great. Oh that was that was that's
what we needed to go. What happens when you get tired?
What happens when Wemby gets tired? What happens when he
plays way too many minutes and he can do anything
at the end of the game. What happened the last
eighteen minutes of the game of the biggest thing? Yeah,
but we need to do the middle of the third
quarter on it was now we're giving the game away
(10:03):
to the mix. It's like, well, well, we shouldn't have
done that. Nuh guys, you never thought you were and
you were not ready for the moment.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
Well, the biggest thing is I've got to separate between
on court and what they're giving you at a press conference.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
Right, what's what was the old ad?
Speaker 2 (10:16):
I don't even remember what the everybody's saying the same thing.
What are they gonna say that we're panicked? You know,
we wish through the graveyard.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
That wasn't. That wasn't. That wasn't. We all sat down
and talked on the plane and really understood each other
and got where we were coming from. This was just, Hey,
we had a we had a couple of services conversations,
but we're good.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
But the way you're stating it is after game one,
after Game two that they're they're supposed to immediately go,
I don't know, those guys are really good, And no,
you're not doing that until the series is over. You're
giving nothing. Even then they're not conceding anything. They're walking
off the court and telling you to beat it. Go celebrate,
uh and have a good time. But for for the Spurs,
(10:54):
and and look, I had the great conversation Ryan Hollins
with me ten years in the league, our old guy
with our you know, your cheap out competitions of who's
wearing less money on them in a given day, et cetera.
Working with the Rockets now even got them to say
it right that they were going to take the money
off the court. When it came to de Aaron Fox, right,
he was your experienced guy, Well how much experience did

he have? And he was the guy that Mike Brown
criticized twenty four hours before being fired from his job
after being Coach of the Year in Sacramento. So they're
gonna they're to love when that contract extension kicks in
for Daron Fox next year. Well, but yeah, you've already
seen like there's been a distancing, right the unfollowing of socials,
which take it all with a grain of salt. But

you also had the owner's kid chiming in on a thing. Yeah,
enjoy your last army supposed was mad mad one didn't
get the minutes he meets, but also bad clapping back
on socials there, so like there's there's some stuff behind
the scenes. That's jes dating, which means you have to
have the United Front as inane as it may have
sounded each and every time. Yeah, we're fine, we're killing ourselves.

There's no denying. They killed themselves repeatedly, right, everybody could
throw the stat out. Yeah they led for seventy two percent,
All right, that's all finding good. If you get obliterated
in the other twenty eight percent, it really doesn't matter, now,
does it. And we watched it time and time again,
the heavy minutes on dearon Fox. That's the other part
for San Antonio folks. Whichever camera I'm looking at, here's

the old rule of thumb. If your guy is in
between the white lines, I don't care if he's got
a power rating of six percent or ninety eight. Okay,
if he needs to go replenish on some fruit. It
doesn't matter if he's in between the white lines. We
can only evaluate his play and dearon Fox was terrible.
From dealing to Buddy, he made what one shot that
mattered the entire series Otherwise giveaways, bad decisions, turnovers all

the way through. And we could talk about Dylan Harper.
He was the best, most consistent player they had for
the entire series.

When ben Yama's final stat line was and the super
cuts of those are flying every which way, Mitch Johnson
wasn't ready for the moment? Would I be I'm not

With all of this other stuff swirling in the background,
Aaron Fox's contract and all these you got a lot
of people you need to make happy, which is why

There ain't no guarantee you're getting back. I don't care
how great this guy, but usually but this should have
been the quintessential because you used to hear that used
to be this way for a long time in the NBA,
but not really anymore, but it used to be the
longest time. Is you need to learn to lose before
you right, And this is what he used for Smith,
saying that in seventy one s Orton Jordan had to
learn how to lose before he learned how to win.
The Pistons, the Lakers, all these teams, and it should
(13:37):
be that way for the Spurs because they did everything
all at once. There was no We've been through some
playoff wars. It's been no playoffs, no playoffs, no players,
NBA Finals, right, so this should be that That's the
one silver lining I should say for him was that
the Knicks had to learn how to lose before they won, right.
We saw that the last couple of years. This should
be the same thing for San Antonio. But they got
a lot of problems. Man, they got And the fact is,

and when when you go into the offseason you're dissecting
this NBA Finals and now everything went wrong, it's leadership
on down, right. But forget, we haven't even gotten into
the wemby immaturity and dirty part of it yet. But
just think how it all collapsed for them on so
many levels. And now you have players are mad and
you don't know what's going on behind closed doors. This
(14:20):
should be a dynasty in the making, and instead you
wonder how many guys are going to be there next year, Right,
Dylan Harper's got to play, He's got to start. Okay,
Steph Castle's got to play, He's got to start. Okay.
I know you can in positionless NBA, but can you
start both those guys in the Aaron Fox don't think
you can. Right, It's a thing man like. It should
be one of those learned to lose before you win.
But with the Spurs, they were so not ready for
(14:41):
this moment. There's a lot of emotional baggage coming off
of this going in next year because all of us
just been no, we're good, we just have to play
our game. This is the finals. It's different, right, It's
absolutely different. And they never understood that. Lessons didn't grow
and certainly gamed the game. You'd think, all right, we've
done this before. What needs to be different? How do
we stop the bleeding?
Speaker 2 (15:02):
Because you don't need to play great basketball, And that's
the biggest thing of all of these collapses, Like you
didn't have to play great. You just couldn't be catastrophically bad.
You couldn't match the early inefficiencies in an aptitude of
the Knicks, which is what they did, right, I mean
as poorly as the Knicks plade. It's like, all right,
you're not distancing yourself. It's just hovering in that twelve
(15:24):
to fifteen as we've watched in a lot of these games.
Obviously the twenty nine is the outlier, but just talking
about the other games that you gave away, it's like,
that's nothing. That is two minutes of a game clock.
The fact that you kept getting caught in the Jalen
Brunson thing. And this is where you get into rules
going forward in terms of that landing halo thing and
what it's become.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
How many times do you go to the free throw
line for for these shots? At least three?
Speaker 2 (15:48):
Yeah, right, but every time you get him in the air.
And I know that's the old rule of hey, you
got the guy in the air, you can do whatever
the hell you want. You should not be able to
jump into the guy once he's he's off his feet.

Well, am I.

Really jumping towards the basket? No, I'm jumping towards him
who's off to the side of me, which is the
bruns of thing. And look, you take the rules as
they are and interpret them and get your advantage. I
don't fault a good strategy, but there's got to be
some some looking into how a lot of this stuff
gets work. Because that series, look knicks, we're gonna win
that series, regardless it was a poorly officiated series. By

the way, Scott Foster failed as the Extender again. The
Extender well eleven and O their last eleven games and
the playoffs with him is the I almost wanted investigation
at this if I.

feel like there's some questions that need to be answered there. Well,
they did show they did foul cut out. I mean,
what else you want that fouled cut out of the game.

was in for the layup, but they didn't do the
proper at it because that's when you show the stumbling
newborn giraffe, stumbling.

Bumbling fun sumbo, which is what that kind of looked like,
stumbling bumbling fum. Now, I tell you what, though, I
just real quick, I'm just the bruns and method to
the madness. I want the videotape of him practicing that
hard stop pullback and how many I would love to
see if he had a counter of how many times

he's done that, say just since he became an NBA player,
because that is unstoppable. It's like, right, you're a moment,
your momentum as a defender, you're just in no man
slap because either you get caught and you reach back
and you fall, or he's got ample shooting space and
now he's got a clear lane to throw it up.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
Yeah, crazy again. You know, not a great day for
the Jalen Brunson is too short to win a championship.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
But but to be fair, Jay Wright said that you
go all the way through. He was a second round pick.
I mean there's a lot of gms. I counted, no
fewer than at least what we got two, four, six,
eight nine guys.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
Including the New York but still it's a still tough run.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
Executive just saying we've got about a third of the
league where guys that were employed of as GM's have
been in their positions for at least eight years in
the NBA that all the didn't didn't grab him as
the number one guy, So you know, that seemed to
be a consensus. So if that becomes the thing that
you want to put on your back to where most
folks can't do that for eight years.
Speaker 1 (22:16):
Now, the thing is to really, you know, help put
a bow on this. As we are into parade week here, yes,
say goodbye my lover. Look, you want to take a
look at the two superstars in this series, right, Jalen
Brunson and Victor wembin Yama, and you have one guy
who came through this with all sorts of criticism on
(22:37):
him and carried him And I would say this about anybody,
you can't argue with this who carried himself with an
incredible amount of class. And Jalen Brunson didn't do any talking,
I mean until this this video came out about the
party afterwards, I mean Lemby okay, but during the finals,
like right right after Game four when the Knicks won
that incredible comeback where you know he had the tip
(23:00):
in the first thing Jalen Brunson said was I want
to talk about a kid that I got to talk
to I'm in the Make a Wish program who passed away,
and he first thing he wanted to say was I
was thinking about him talking to him, you know, out
to his family, all the talking, all all the criticism,
and and you know that's something that he that he
talks about first coming off that game. When the end
(23:21):
of Game five happened, you see it, he's not in
the game because with a defensive lineup break, Jim Brunson's
on the bench. The Knicks win the bleeping title, which
he came to New York for and he gave back money.
He's the guy that gave back money, you know, gave
back human moneys, lots of human moneys to millions of
human money. And what's the first thing he did was
I walked over to shake Mitch Johnson's hand and hug him,
(23:44):
right and now, so you take a look at that,
because that's what people, you know, to talk about the
the court stuff for Brunson. A lot of the haters
a lot of that. I go, well, you know, obviously,
you haven't watched the Knicks. You haven't watched them play.
You haven't watched him do absolutely everything for this team
for the better part of the last four years. You
haven't seen him make unstoppable shots in the final three
minutes of games when he shouldn't be able to get
(24:04):
his own shot off. Yet he's shorter than Steph Curry
and he gets his own shot off and Curry doesn't.
But the amount of class with which he's carried himself
is something that is not talked about enough.
Speaker 4 (24:15):
Right.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
Just look today on Good Morning America, right, the five
of them are on there, and you know they all
haven't had any sleep. Oh Gianna Nooby just looks like
a zombie. I felt bad. So what happened? Who had
to answer all the questions? Jaalb I'm the captain, I'll
answer the questions, right. Jameen bruns is answering the questions
like mccal bridges did a live stream that was insane.
We can't even play it back up. The problems. There's
a lot of problems. This guy. You can tell not
(24:37):
only forget about the on the court stuff, but the leader,
Like he's going to be a legend in New York forever.
It's it's Brunson Jeter Eli Like, that's that's the the
that's the level he has gotten to. Now you can
trust that with Wemby, who walked off the court at
the end, didn't shake hands, right, none of the Spurs
shook hands. Way to be classy, san Antonio Wemby, A
(24:57):
couple of the backups did well. Yeah, Luke Corney stayed
on the court to shake hands. He was like the
only one that I saw like, hey, this look Cornett
hicking hands, but like most of them walked off, wouldn't
shake hands at the end, And you got the crazy
ass press conference room at the end where he talked
about I learned a lesson. I learned a lesson. What
did he learn? He wasn't really sure, but he learned
a lesson. And then he ends with this really bizarre ending,
this Wemby out that he says that we're all kind
(25:19):
of scratching our heads, still wondering what it was like
two days later. Appreciate it all. See y'all never Preacha,
See y'all never went through the entire finals. And you
saw that Wemby's a dirty player. You saw some of
the plays he makes. Right, if there was a Game six,
the biggest conversation we'd be having right now is Webby
(25:40):
going to be able to play because that was a flagrant.
If you're gonna call Brunson for the flagrant earlier in
the series, the play from Game five where Wemby comes
down and sticks his foot and Brunson's landing spot, uh,
that's a flagrant. And that's the big conversation. We're having.
A guy who was the face of the league coming
into the NBA Finals. Now we're having more discussions on
whether he should be allowed to play because he's dirty.
(26:02):
He showed two things in the NBA Finals. That's that
he plays dirty and he's really immature, and that's it.
You can't really argue that, right because all the stuff
with Wemby and all the different things that went on,
he went from the people's choice to be the next
face of the league to now Wemby's a villain. Right,
So okay, let's see what kind of player Wenby be
(26:23):
comes out of this. Let's see what lesson he does learn,
because right again, those are the biggest things. Dirty and immature.
So if this was the real I have to learn
how to lose before I have to learn how to win.
I am hoping Wemby, who's going to be hopefully a
great thing for the league for the next ten plus years.
I mean, you're talking about a guy who's going to
be the hood order of the league. Like, hey, this
is Wemby's NBA, right, the guy is that good? He's
(26:46):
got to learn a little more class, and I hope
you he's a little bit more keeping his body, keeping composure,
because I would say, dude, do you want to be
Draymond Green or do you want to be Jason Tatum?
Or do you want to be Luca Do you want
to be SGA? Who do you want to be. Do
you want to be a guy that has dirty plays
all the time and not even a borderline banging dirty plays? No,
(27:07):
these dirty I'm Bruce Bowen sticking my foot out so
you can you can sprain your ankle. I'm gonna kick
it O Giano Nobi and maybe Hurd his name. Do
you want to be that guy? Is that the guy
you want to be? I get you're frustrated. I get
you were losing, but dude, you got to grow up
because this is if you if you want to say, hey,
I'm ready for this, I'm this is a man's game.
And and he looked like a young kid who just
(27:28):
couldn't control his emotions, didn't know how to lead, and
and and came through again with more dirty plays that
we're talking about being called and not called because the
NBA can't ignore that, right, it's too public to say, oh,
we're protecting when protecting Wemby, because you're gonna see an
avalanche of teams and stars saying you can't do this.
This is been and it's gonna be another big, bad
(27:49):
headline for the NBA. Oh we're protecting Wemby. It's one
thing to protect a guy like Jordan or sga, I'm
getting to the hoop. You're getting a beneficial foul call,
like a lot of superstars get those. But Wemby's going
out of his way to make dirty plays, not like im.
I'm banging down low with Karl Anthony Towns and here's
a bunch of elbows. He says, Oh that was That's
(28:10):
one thing. This is I'm going out of my way
to potentially you know injure Jalen Brunson or Anunobe, you're
throwing elbows and Mitchell Robinson whatever. It is like this
is where you know, you look at Wemby and you
see that the two way the stars carried themselves and
Brunson's one way and Wemby you go, wow, dude, you
got to really have a moment where you got to
figure out what kind of player do you want to
want to be? I mean, the autonobi was odd.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
Nothing happened, there's no contact there, but just it's it's
a video that goes into the montage in a lot
of those cases. I think you know, we talked about
it last week, Jason. A lot of retaliatory stuff like
you'd watch if you were I don't know, if your
kid's on the mound pitching and is getting racked, what
happens the next time you see someone maybe he catches
one in the ribs or you're throw or if you're
(28:55):
playing soccer, you feel like you got folled?
Speaker 1 (28:57):
What do you do?
Speaker 2 (28:58):
Immediately turn and you do the cat down? All right,
there's the bad play, and you watched it happen, and
that seemed to be the thing with Wemby. It's like
he was coming back in a lot of those cases
and giving back for what he thought he got. Now,
part of it is you're not strong enough. Probably watched
Mitchell Robinson and again we still want to know exactly.
Speaker 1 (29:17):
What happened to him out of the way for that
offense rebound.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
But but I mean that was a great play of like,
you're not playing the basketball, you're trying to hug the man,
and you never bothered to look for the basketball because
that should have been an easy Wemby rebound and instead
it goes straight into Mitchell Robinson's hand and he just
looks at him and like, ah, you didn't get me
off the spot and I got the ball, Like both
things you failed at the smell You later comment see
(29:41):
you never. I don't know if that's a translation thing.
I don't know, look i'm old. Maybe that's phraseology never
like what but maybe that's as it.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
Was all bizarre. His behavior was bizarre for him in
the final like all the quotes whatever.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
And I know there was already the criticism before this
series of you know, he's only twenty two.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
He doesn't have to pretend he's smarter.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
It's like, look, man, there's a there's a language barrier,
there's a composure, there's a not given too much credit
because in some respects you might be giving away the
farm the more you're looking and saying, Wow, that guy's
really good and that guy's great. But the stuff on
the court, right, there were those one time that you
didn't even get the file call. Karl Anthony Towns did
(30:22):
the clear out up at the three point line and
elbowed him in the chin, clear as day, bloodied his lip.
No call, no intention. You know, nobody's calling for a
flagger there. It's like, all right, it's two big guys
play on, but everything else just gets magnified. And you
know why it gets magnified even worse because you're losing,
you're winning it becomes the well he does everything within
(30:45):
the order and the line. And this goes back to
again talking about that landing zone thing, which I think
really needs a very hard look at the way guys
get into and come down in space, because as soon
as you've got a guy committing no law longer are
you going straight up for a shot. You're either diving
into them, diving to the left, to the right, kicking
your legs out to draw some sort of contact. So
(31:08):
don't I don't think it's it's as easily adjudicated. And
when you're as big and gangly and odd, maybe still
growing into your body, maybe he might come back at
seven nine.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
But like where you're coming down, you know, there's the
one where he looks down to the space that is
very damning, right, that's the one, and that's the bruns
and play that gets circled in all this, But it's
the curiosity coming forward. How much muscle does he put on?
You were able to bully Chet. This ain't Chet, No,
it's not Chet, This ain't Jet. Mitchell Robinson will beat
(31:41):
you down in the low post. And there's plenty of
other guys that are looking around in the NBA going
I'm about to get paid because I got a big
ass and I can beat this guy down low.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
I just take one superstar the way they carry themselves,
the other one the way they carry themselves. I'm telling
you you can see the difference between the NIXT winning
Spurs in so many different way. By the way, Blank
Wemby is what he said.

speech to the team prior to the playoffs and talked
about how, hey give me the next ten weeks and

of the weekend, and then the video went live a
few hours ago, and it's really inspiring to hear him,

a guy that's been much maligned. Owner of the Knicks,
James Dolan, was pretty I never thought, I said, wow,
look at Jim's a really good speech. Yeah. Now, but
one thing he focused on is something that there is
no way that this actually happened. Now. He asked the
Knicks to do something as part of the Hey give
me the next ten weeks, but yeah, there's no way
(33:22):
the Knicks actually did this.
Speaker 5 (33:23):
I had this idea that maybe you should give up
sex for the next ten weeks. You don't have to
give up sex for the next you.
Speaker 1 (33:32):
Know what spartans are. They denied themselves right so that
they could have an edge. Get the edge. Go home,
talk to your wives, tell them. Don't tell me you're
not gonna have sex, and don't tell them it was
my idea.
Speaker 5 (33:46):
But let them know what this is going to be like,
what are your commitment it's going to be like, and
how they're going to have to sacrifice to those concerns
at home. They can't come on the court, they can't
come into the practice for the next ten weeks. This
just gotta be all about us and about how we
play I'm just it's not who we play, it's how

we play. Because I believe this team could be anybody
in the NBA.

We've already shown that we can. So it's not who
we play, it's how we play. We claw with our
fingernails for that inch.

kids in school or parents, that's got to take a
back seat to what's going for the championship. And I'm
