Yeah, okay, just make you make it sure. I listened

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Yeah right, yeah, that was it. Yeah right there. You
mean the guy from the Braves. Yeah, yeah, the guy
and the guy from Pocahontas Bitch.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
That's the Sorry, that's the Captain John Smith podcast. It's
the Captain John Completely different podcasts, a totally different podcast.
So uh we'll get to that big football story coming
up in a minute. But look tonight and really most
of today owned by Leonel Messi and Argentina after they
come from behind win over England to qualify for the

(01:55):
World Cup Final Sunday against Spain, once again, just like
the Knicks, proving that no deficit is too much to
overcome down one nothing. It looks really bad. Well, luckily,
enter Thomas Tuckle, England's coach. He decides, all I'm gonna
sub out a lot of my guys and put on
a bunch of defensive guys and allow you to have
possession for ninety percent of the rest of the game

(02:15):
park the mod park, the possibly we w we got
them right where we want them. Oh man, Well that
strategy did not work, as you know by now. Argentina
gets the equalizer and moments later, Messi sets up the
game winner, and here is Telemundo's Andreskant with the call
take a breath and take a listen Messy and tell you.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
Don't it.

Speaker 5 (03:05):
Godino p see fans the other nails se dono.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
You know who doesn't like his call? Most know who's
that Shatner because remember he yelled cod and it became iconic.
Oh yeah, it's only like eight seconds.

Speaker 6 (03:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
How many beers can you chug during a goal call?

Speaker 1 (03:51):
Like? You know, No, here's the thing. I'm not not
chugging a beer, but I wonder, like, if you gave
me a regular size hot dog, could I aren't the
hot dog and finish it? Before he's done with the
goal call, Not not the whole call, just the part
where he says the first goal to the end of
the last goal, because when he goes into describing the
play like that, that's out of it, Like could I

(04:12):
start and finish a hot dog in that time.

Speaker 7 (04:14):
You might get through a second.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
It was a full minute. Okay, well, but the whole
thing wasn't.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
But it was. I mean, you're going full Chicago dog
orre you just saying hot dog because it's a regular
size hot dogs you versus Joey Chestnut and a hot
dog eating contest. I mean that that's there's nothing to that.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Nothing. I mean, not like the hot dogs I like
to have, like where I like to have, you know,
a hot dog with some cheese on it, a little
bit of mustard. No, I just mean your your average
size hot dog with a bun and mustard.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
That's I easily could I kill a whole hot dog
from the beginning of his first goal until the last
l comes out of his mouth. They will try that
tomorrow night.

Speaker 7 (04:56):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
There's a lot of stuff I want to try with
this Tomorrow night.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
Yeah. I mean, I have a crock pot I can bring,
I can, we can we can make it hot dog Night.
Although Tim Conway and Petros will be mad at us.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Why why is that?

Speaker 3 (05:08):
Because they have hot Dog Night? They have a dispute,
They had lawyers involved. It got it got ugly over
at camp.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Wow, Okay, we can still we can't have an official
hot dog night, but it don't have the patent on
hot dogs. It could be Andre's cantor hot dog Night.
We do whatever we want to.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
I just I don't. I don't want to ruffle any feathers.
I don't need any lawyers in my face.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
You think people are gonna call it so you can't
eat hot dogs? Wait, we can't just call it hot
dog night. It's just I mean, we can say hot
dog night if we want. It's hot dog night. At ballparks,
it's hot dog night. Not dogs are fifty cents.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
I'm just trying to be respectful to my friends over
in the no idea our iHeart family.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
But no one's making money off of this. We're not
you know we did so we're not selling sponsors of
fans going, Hey, brought to you by cons cons hot dogs.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
Now what though, I do need to make a costco
run tomorrow, not a sponsor, but which means I could
probably outfit us fairly, uh cost effectively. Okay, I like
that because now from the food corn or in the interior, because.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
Now because after the last because after the last few few,
I really want a hot dog. Now I understand I
really want a hot dog, all right, I want your mind.

Speaker 7 (06:14):
Yeah you're there.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
So what do we need? Just regular mustard? We need
a uh, you know, a brown mustard like.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
Oh, I'm always we can get a we can get
a little extemporaneous with that, like that could be a
Dijon mustard, it could be a regular yellow mustard, whatever
mustard you want.

Speaker 7 (06:29):
All right, I'll figure it out.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
I got some of that neon green relish.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
It's gotta be. It's gotta be. It's gotta be just
easy hot dog, hot dog bun mustard. Right, that's a
hot dog. Or if you're want of those people that
likes catch up on a hot dog. I mean, you're insane.
I'll never talk to you.

Speaker 7 (06:46):
But you know, hey, okay, you want and you got
on board.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
Good for you.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
So, uh all right that let's do this. Mary, play
it again. I'm going to time from the beginning of
the first goal until the last l Okay, So I
want to see it. See how long it is, how
long you'd have to eat a hot dog? Hold on, though, Jason,
before we keep that up. I think Mary wanted to
give you the l she threw her hands up in
disgust that the mention of no hot dog with with ketchup,

(07:14):
yeah and beef. Well, because hot dogs are made form
mustard that I made for ketchup. Who said you can't
have all three of them on it that that's the rule.

Speaker 7 (07:21):
Well, it's also the hot thing. I mean, that's just wrong.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
From Chicago look at hot dog rules.

Speaker 7 (07:27):
Yeah, Mary, I am just my sensibilities as.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
I put ketchup mustard animals on my hot dog.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
Okay, if you put all of them on that, I
get it, that I give. But just like a just
like a hot dog with with ketchup. No, but if
you put unless you're five, yeah, no, I can't do that.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
I'm on that grow up.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
I think it's weird if you put like a hot
dog just with Jess only ketchup or just only mustard
or just only relish.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Well, it's made to be with just only mustard. Like
it's a perfect food. It's it's it's meat in a
bun and there's there's a little yellow down the middle.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
Ew.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
Yeah, that's what it is. Mustard. Yeah, just mustard. Yeah,
you're not missing anything with the relish and that you
have to you put too much stuff on a hot
dog and you lose the taste of the hot dog.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
Yeah, but you get the job done with all three
of them.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
If you want to put all three on, that's great.
That it's gonna it's gonna be more to eat then,
And maybe I can't eat a whole hot dog with
all that stuff on it in the time it takes,
you know, Andre's cantor to.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
Say goal, we can. We can test it out, all right, Sorry, so.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
Play it again. I'm gonna time it and see exactly
how long I would have to eat a hot dog. Alright,
So go ahead, Mary, play that. Play the call again, Messy.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
And gonna tell you.

Speaker 7 (09:03):
Everybody cheer.

Speaker 6 (09:04):
Nancy, God, I'm starting to.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
Forty seconds. Forty seconds to eat a normal size hot
dog with a bun and mustard.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
Yeah, no, that forty seconds, I have no doubt.

Speaker 1 (09:35):
Dude that why why do you think they And I'm
not gonna dunk the mustard to dunk the bun in
water like they do in the competition. The toughest part
is the bun. Man, that's the hardest part.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
In a minute, come on, as long as long as
you've refrained from your afternoon snack.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
Oh, you could be just one hot dog, dude, I
could have I could a.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
Hot dog a bun, and I mean that's not gonna
do it?

Speaker 7 (09:58):
Like I can explay I.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
I could have three hot dogs for dinner and five
minutes later do this contest. I could have one hot dog, right,
I'm I could do it. But it's not like it's
a whole big competitivity eating a lot of hot dogs?
Can I eat one hot dog from the goal until
the end?

Speaker 7 (10:11):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (10:11):
I was gonna make it a competition before it was
all said and done. Okay, I'm saying right here is
this og on anobi card that I brought in.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
But yeah, I want to fie, you know. Okay, let's
and then if it proves to be too easy. Let's
say that I have one and it's like twenty five seconds, Like, oh,
could I could I jam that second one in?

Speaker 3 (10:33):
There?

Speaker 1 (10:33):
Could I go two hot dogs in forty seconds?

Speaker 7 (10:36):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (10:36):
Mondras can't from goal to goal?

Speaker 3 (10:37):
Oh, I have no doubt that if you put your
mind to it, you can get through aduce minimum.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Oh no, I get you're telling you know, hey, you
know reach for the stars. You know, never, you know,
never give up on your dreams. No I got, I'll
get you were telling me. I just say twenty seconds though,
I mean just the man. But if we get a reversal,
then you lose the math that goes along. Well, I
don't think they're gonna reversal with just two hot dogs,
Like if it was more than that, if no, then
you would get it. But I feel pretty safe that
there's no reversal with you.

Speaker 7 (11:05):
You know, really sad England fan today.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
Mick Jagger I saw you know caption have shattered for
him once upon a time. I look like Mick Jagger
after someone brought really cheap hot dogs to a family cookout.

Speaker 7 (11:20):
Okay, my lips swelled up.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
Your lip swelled up, and you were just hopping around
and your you were doing high knees and putting your
hands up and down.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
I was doing a lot of finger pony, going yeah,
get it out of the desk.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
D Danner, I'm mad, h Harmon, what are you doing? No,
I look like Mick Jagger.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
Has anybody seen No I did that.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
I was just thinking the other day, you know, I
told you this story about how when I would in college,
when I would go out all night and have to
work at like seven o'clock in the morning at supermarket,
like I would have no voice because just be I'm
out yelling at a bar all night and talking and
everything else. And I had a really good Michael Bolton voice,
like I could really sing really well like him. At
like seven in the morning, I.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
Could hardly believe yeah, that raspiness that says yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
And how am I supposed to live without you? Came
on the radio the other day and I tried to
sing along to it, and I just like, I can't
do it anymore. It's like a skill that's gone. Like
I had it. I had it, you know, in the
in the mid nineties. But I don't have that anymore.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
I can't do it. Yeah. When I was young, drank
a bunch and was out, I could get the axl
Rose screech going things you cannot do. Years later, I
sound more like he does now, Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:35):
What what do you do for a living? I speak
for a living, so you can do stuff like that? Nope,
can't do it. Can't do any of.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
That in small doses. Nope, Nope, can't do it.

Speaker 7 (12:43):
I don't know, but we'll try it again.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
Well, we'll see if we can figure it out, not
only the hot dogs, but karaoke night to be determined.
So what do we call Tomorrow night then?

Speaker 1 (12:51):
Andres can't do or hot dog finish it like, we
gotta have some kind of title for it, though, there's
gonna be some kind of title for it, but no
catch the no ketchup, Andre's Canter, hot Dog Child the
Andre's Well, then we gotta pay Andres Canter the tell
them now, we gotta pay. Tell Themudo, this is.

Speaker 3 (13:08):
Better than the combine.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
Come on, we say it like the then people think
it's a different competition.

Speaker 3 (13:16):
Oh, god's gonna drink a whole forty in the time.
It's it.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
No, no, no, it's not that we can't do do that.

Speaker 3 (13:22):
Not on radio. But I mean that might be a
fun competition of our own, like.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
We'd have to get around, you know, of patents and
stuff by just calling it the Cup forty second Challenge
or something like that. So then we gotta work on
that title.

Speaker 3 (13:36):
I don't know. We got a couple of suggestions that
have come in Wow already, the Sausage Shindig, the Tubular
Meat Night It's tubular, or if we do it on Friday,
Frank Friday Okay, Frank Friday is good. Thank you to
UCLA dodger Frank who got himself into the mix with

(13:57):
that last suggestion.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
So wait, a guy who sent us a note on it.
His name is actually friend. Yeah, so Frank send us
a note about Frank's wow.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
But he got the yeah, he's got the first took
and then he got himself into the mix on the top.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
I'm all over this topic. My name is Frank. I
got about this is my topic.

Speaker 3 (14:15):
Man. I got someone else that has a question for
you that needs to be answered.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
All right, mister Helper, what do you got?

Speaker 3 (14:21):
Whatever happened to wing Gate?

Speaker 1 (14:23):
Oh dude, okay, okay wing Gate, I'll give you.

Speaker 3 (14:28):
We got a couple of you know, the friends in
the instagram the dinner way there at Swollen Dome. You're
at what the real Jason s I mean you find
us out there at five Found Radio. We are in
the process now of finding because supposedly there is video
that has taken that we have, like cameras, like say,
you know in Vegas there are cameras everywhere.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
How is there no video of the Tyler Herobam at
a bio fight? How are there no cameras that well, yes,
we're Fox Sports Radio, We're not Vegas. We don't have cameras,
but apparently we potentially do. And I'm way for the
right person to come back from vacation to talk to
them about, Hey, can we go back and find this
day and this was the this was the camera feed
and and uh who you know who came and took

(15:10):
all my wings out of eate them.

Speaker 3 (15:11):
So that's kind of where we are right now. Yeah,
because I was off that night, So I came back
the next night and you were talking to Monsey and
doing a quick exchange of news items, and then you
came back open the fridge and started yelling and then
it all went down in from there.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
Or were you off that night? Did you come in
with some kind of mask on, knowing that the wings
were in there you could eat the people would say,
people think I'm off tonight, that I'm on. Then I'm
somewhere else and I'm at a concert and I got
a cardboard cut out of me in the pit when
I went to go see whatever band I'm going to
go see, and people think, I mean, look that's me
right there. Wait, that's your face is very flat and

(15:47):
there's no bet No, Oh that's me.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
I'm right there.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
I didn't I didn't come back and steal wings out
of the refrigerator.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
What are you saying? I'm walking in with a mask
like I'm a member of the Wyatt family.

Speaker 6 (15:57):
We're here.

Speaker 1 (16:00):
Came in from the WWE, and I think he took
all your witness.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
He kept calling himself the fiend. We didn't really know
what the hell was going on.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
Exit up about a fresca exit swollen down The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carbon. Yeah, we'll
have action on this tomorrow night too. Can I eat
one hot dog in the span it takes andres cant
to go?

Speaker 3 (16:22):
I have now charged. That is part of my outing
now as I've got a set hot dog.

Speaker 7 (16:27):
In the appropriate condiments.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
Very nice, Very That'll be the big night tomorrow. Uh
So coming up next, it's nearing the end of July.

wherever you get your podcast.

Speaker 1 (17:28):
As we count down to zero week in college football,
this story today, and you knew we were going to
get something about it because of the absolute blank show
it was last season where somehow Duke with five losses
won the ACC not getting into the playoff with that,
So you knew the ACC was going to fix their

(17:50):
tiebreaker for this year, right five way tie for second place,
putting Duke in the AC title game over Miami last year. Look,
that is a really horrible way trying to figure out
how to how to tie break things. I mean, come on, uh,
but you knew they were going to make a change,
and they did. Now I'm going to explain the change

(18:13):
to you. Okay, I try try to try, Truck, try
to keep up. Do I get need to bring out
my abacus or what do I need?

Speaker 3 (18:19):
You may? You may.

Speaker 1 (18:20):
The number one tie breaker is head to head.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
Okay, okay, all right, very good.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
No team will be overly rewarded or penalized based on
the number of conference games it plays.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
Okay, okay, all right.

Speaker 1 (18:33):
When head to head matchups can't separate the teams, the
ACC is going to use the team's success ranking provided
by Sports Source Analytics as a way to reward the
team with the strongest body of work.

Speaker 3 (18:44):
Those coaches that we talked about earlier were getting excited
their we were the better team for seventy two percent.
That means we're better, but you lost it. It doesn't matter.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
Mitch Johnson's right on this. Uh So, basically, it's head
to head and if that can't decide it, there's going
to be a committee somehow put together again team success ranking,
which apparently is a thing by Sports Source Analytics, which
also apparently is a thing, and that's going to figure
it out. Right, here's AEC commissioner Jim Phillips, who said

(19:18):
they worked with consultants and did ten thousand simulated season
outcomes to ensure the model fairly addressed a wide range
of championship scenarios. Okay, this is where I go, Oh
my goodness, what people will do to justify their jobs
in the world, right, Like, everybody's got bosses. Where why

(19:40):
are we doing this? It's just so this person can
justify their job. It's I have them working on this,
I have them making changes. Just doesn't make any sense.
What do you want to make sure you do? You
want to make sure you get the teams into the
AC Championship game that have the best chance of moving
on to the playoff. So if you have a tiebreaker,
how about you make it, Oh, I don't know, highest
ranked team. Hey, you pick AP coaches poll, whatever you want.

(20:03):
How about you make it highest ranked team. Guess guess what,
that's the team that's going to make it in after
it's all said and done, the team that is ranked
the highest make it. There. A team that's ranked outside
the top twenty five with five losses is not going
to get chosen. So I'm sorry that that was your
tie breaker.

Speaker 3 (20:19):
It was bad.

Speaker 1 (20:20):
All you have to do is say highest ranked team.
I could have saved them. Whatever the ACC paid, Sports
Source analytics iver the hell that is team's success ranking again,
which I think is made up. Whatever, whatever they paid,
I could have done it. I said, you know what,
I'll do this for you for five grand I don't
want to all right, maybe I'll be like Dan Housen.
I would just give arbitrary amounts of money. Something would
be a billion dollars. One thing would be four thousand dollars. Right,

(20:43):
what did what did he want? What did Dan Housen
want to uncurse? Jake Paul four thousand thousand dollars, four
thousand dollars? I want four thousand dollars. I do it
for four thousand dollars. Yeah, take the highest ranked team.
What do you want to do coaches poll or ap Okay, great,
there you go, there's your tiebreaker.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
It's that easy.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
It really is that easy. I mean, really it is
that easy. That's who you want being able to make
because that's who's gonna make it. The team's gon to
rank the highest.

Speaker 3 (21:09):
No, we need to complicate this as best we can
and get to a random end.

Speaker 1 (21:17):
You're paying a group of people that are gonna analyze
the teams the same way the Associated Press, the College
Football Playoff Poll, the coaches poll, the same way everybody
else does it. So what you're telling me is you're
gonna you need a separate group of people to analyze
teams that are gonna spit out what they think when
somebody else is gonna do that for you for free.

(21:38):
And it doesn't matter what this group says. It doesn't
matter what team success ranking and Sports Source Analytics says.
It matters what the playoff poll says, it matters what
the AP writers say, it matters what coaches play. This
is what matters. Why are you getting Why are you
going by? Hey, well, if we put this team forward,
they're most likely to make it. Well, you know who
knows that. The rankings, the rankings. That's why you take

(22:00):
the team highs in the rankings, because that's who they
like the most. Yeah, I mean really, I feel sometimes
I feel like we're I live in crazy town. I
live in crazy I could have solved that for the
ACC for four thousand dollars and I don't know what
they paid brought. What do you think million dollars?

Speaker 7 (22:12):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (22:12):
I'm looking at a million dollars on much site here.
It's tracking football, three hundred and fifty seven thousand player profiles.
They say they've got over one hundred and fifty college
team clients, nearly half the NFL media members, and all
sorts of other things. Let's see, five point two million
plays were analyzed, two hundred and thirty four point two

(22:35):
million data points, and twenty eight thousan nine hundred eight
games covered since two thousand and five. So I mean
you want to crunch some numbers. Boy, they got numbers
for you.

Speaker 1 (22:47):
What did what did all your numbers tell you?

Speaker 3 (22:50):
Tell me?

Speaker 1 (22:50):
Gino Smith had a bad game with those three interceptions?

Speaker 3 (22:52):
Oh great, thanks, I appreciate that. Thank you, all right,
very good.

Speaker 1 (22:55):
Anything we couldn't see on film, No, nope, you guys
thought all okay, I appreciate that. Thank you for absolutely
just reinforcing what I already knew. Gino Smith threw three picks.
He had a bad game, and my team can see
why in the film.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
Thanks for four throws. So, I mean, it really could
throw it all off.

Speaker 1 (23:13):
I mean, you have a group that is telling you
what they think about the teams in your conference for
free that you're not paying any money to and the
playoff rankings come out again associated press. Whether you whatever
you believe in the right in the writers or the coaches,
and whether it's ads to take the ball, this is
this is public opinion. They do this for you for free,

(23:33):
and when you need, you need the College Football Playoff
or you need the Playoff committee to be able to
tell you this is the team we believe in the most. Right, Like,
let let's just let's just say this. Right, Let's say
for the ACC there's three teams that are in the
mix for UH or that that are gonna play that
could play in the in the in the playoff, right
you have you have Miami is in and then it's

(23:54):
either Florida State or Clemson. Right, let's just argue Florida
State or Clemson. So Florida State Clemson. Florida State is
ranked higher than Clemson. Right in the playoff polls, Florida
State is ranked sixteenth. Clemson is ranked twenty fourth. But
this crazy school supply thing, whatever it is, is, Hey,
you know, hey, you always got the stronger scuts, stronger
everything is Clemson. So let's go with Clemson.

Speaker 3 (24:16):
Clemson's a team.

Speaker 1 (24:17):
We're gonna put up there to play in that game. Uh, Clemson,
is they don't win, they gonna really still get in.
If they go up from twenty four, they're not going
to get in, but maybe if they maybe if they
but if they don't win, what's gonna happen. But a
team like Florida State at fourteen gets up and gets
in the play Like, I don't, I don't understand how
how you think that that that this is gonna be
something that you're You're you're redefining logic with where you

(24:40):
could spit out a team that is in theory lower
and lower ranked and has less of a chance of
winning and getting to the College Football Playoff because of
because you decide to go with this group rather than
the playoff committee that tells you what they think of
these teams. The playoff commte will be telling you, this
is what we think about Florida State. We think they're
the fourteenth best team in the country right now. This

(25:02):
is what we think about Clemson. Clemson's twenty fourth best team.
But the analytics came up that it was Clemson's were
putting Clemson in the championship game well if they don't win.
If they win, they might not make it up high
enough to get I don't understand how this isn't just
we're gonna take the highest ranked you know what.

Speaker 3 (25:15):
I kind of dig this though, don't know, because what
it does is it raises the flag to say I
vote no confidence red card. That's exactly what you just
did here to all the processes have been in place,
like you know what, we're going away from this because
we don't want the information director to be voting. We
don't want some random guy into the bench. It's like, hey,

(25:39):
you did a good job in the equipment area here,
you vote this week. I mean, I don't know. And
so here is saying we trust these folks and all
the data that they can analyze that'll make it come
out in the wash.

Speaker 1 (25:53):
You are going full Princess Sambi Dala. You're with I
vote no confidence in Chancellor Valorum. The turn stamped. Oh
he just almost falls off.

Speaker 3 (26:01):
The and then he's saying, good night, my angel. It
was great. I have no confidence in here.

Speaker 1 (26:06):
Like I mean, college football, I don't sometimes I don't
get how it's still it's still a sport that gets
on TV every week and we have rankings and games
in championships.

Speaker 3 (26:16):
Well the two really people know how it really does
money and make that work. I really know, the only
thing that needs to happen for the colleges is to
show up.

Speaker 1 (26:24):
Well, I mean, when there's no rules, eventually, it's gonna
you run into anarchy. It's like Lord of the Flies, right,
like nobody calling the shots. You can you get decisions
like this, we're gonna have a this company is gonna
do it. Oh okay, great, all right, that's that's.

Speaker 3 (26:38):
This is how you pay some consultants. You abdicate responsibility
and say, if you don't like the data, I mean,
it's their data, don't play for us.

Speaker 1 (26:46):
Data told us for the codos, the data told us Clemson. Yeah,
but Florida State was ranked higher. Eh, I'm sorry Miami,
and it's gonna be Miami and Clemson. All right, thanks
thanks for making that happen for us. We really appreciate that,
I really because that could happen right. You're talking about
doing that.

Speaker 3 (27:03):
Are you just trying to get some dary and MENSA reps? TJ?

Speaker 1 (27:10):
Clearly not many MENSA candidates in the ACC, TJ. I mean, like,
is this like I see this as something where here's
the ACC and here's Jim Phillips. They take a meeting
with this group and they come in and just blow
them away like a PowerPoint presentation, going We're gonna do this, this, this, this, this, Hey,
what did you have for lunch?

Speaker 3 (27:30):
Well?

Speaker 1 (27:30):
I had a turkey club with coleslaw salad and a
cherry coke.

Speaker 3 (27:34):
This is what you had. But this is how good
this was for you.

Speaker 1 (27:37):
You had seventy eight percent of your calories are been,
are gonna be A're gonna be eating away in the
in the first hour if you get up and walk
thirty minutes.

Speaker 3 (27:44):
Oh, this is amazing. I want to hire you for something.
What a great presentation you did.

Speaker 1 (27:48):
And meanwhile the college Football Committee standing outside going these
guys are beating this out like they want to listen
to them instead. Okay, all right, I guess okay, well
we'll leave now you can evaluate our parking.

Speaker 3 (27:58):
All right, great, thanks appreciate. It only comes down to
one thing. You want to be in the room where
it happens. You want to see made to what I hear.

Speaker 1 (28:07):
I mean, they have a comprehensive.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
Three parts we came up with. Okay, great. I mean
it's like, uh yeah, it's it's not what's that word good?

Speaker 1 (28:21):
Yeah, and not even that right.

Speaker 3 (28:22):
Let let's just let's just say I'm not casting a
dispersion over this company and what data they produce.

Speaker 7 (28:27):
No, No, I know the fact that you got here
is really.

Speaker 1 (28:30):
You're right, right, because let's just say, let's take the
other side of it, right, Jason, You're just gonna point
out if they get it wrong, if they get it wrong,
Let's say they get it right right.

Speaker 3 (28:37):
Let's say they get it right right, and okay, well, hey.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
Miami is in the conference championship game and Florida State
is is the team we expect to put in there? Right,
they're ranked fourteenth at the next highest ranked ACC team,
but they have X, Y, and Z to go through here. Okay, great,
they say Florida State. Florida State makes ino the conference
championship game. Again, you spent money on something for them

(29:01):
to do something where you knew who you were gonna
put in there. Anyway, the team you had to put
in there was the team ranked highest, So like, why.

Speaker 3 (29:07):
Are you to do anything I do? It's fuzzy, man,
oh man, I'll tell.

Speaker 1 (29:13):
You, man, I'll tell you there is Fuzzy Man exit
out about a Fresca exit swollen Dome. The Jason Smith

Now coming up next, we get back into the World
Cup and yes, a huge day from Argentina today as
they beat England two to one to move on to
the championship on Sunday. Don't hate me, don't take a

(29:58):
swing at me once again. After today, I'm gonna tell
you just how the United States soccer problems aren't as
bad as you think they are, and what happened today
to England is proof of it. That's next, Jason and
Mike Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (30:14):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show.
With Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
So we watch today England fail miserably in the final
half hour trying to protect a one nothing lead against Argentina.
Thomas Tuckle decides, Hey, gonna go defensive, gonna give up possession,
going to invite pressure, gonna keep eleven guys behind the
ball and win this game this way. And what did

(30:45):
we see? What did we know about Argentina? At least
in this World Cup, anybody who's even watched a game
is gonna be able to say, well, that strategy sucks because, uh,
Argentina's offense is unbelievable. It's not just messy. Look at
what happened to Egypt when they decided we're gonna sit back.
They scored three goals in twelve and that's it. It
just takes them eighty minutes to get warmed up. Their

(31:08):
pressure is unrelenting, and England decided we're gonna give you
the ball, We're gonna give you possession.

Speaker 3 (31:14):
Two of their best.

Speaker 1 (31:14):
Players are on yellows like what are you thinking?

Speaker 3 (31:16):
Right?

Speaker 1 (31:17):
Like I don't get Tuckle's decision. And this absolutely killed
England because Argentina had eighty eight percent of possession the
rest of the way. Once once he started taking his
making his changes right, takes a goal scorer out of
the game too, Like everything was going fine, you were
playing extremely well, and then you decide, oh, we're gonna
hold off Argentina and you know that doesn't work. He

(31:38):
spent the entire post game defending his tactics, wouldn't really
take responsibility for it. And now England is sitting there going, man,
we were up one nothing with a half hour to
go and we couldn't close this out again. Don't take
a swing at me. You're gonna curse me under your breath,
or you're gonna agree with me. Me or the collect
I say the collective. You the collective collection. And I

(32:01):
know you're not going to be crazy about this either,
but it's the truth. Look at the United States and
the World Cup now from an even wider lens than
we did a week and a half ago when we
lost to Belgium. Right, we lose to Belgium, and it's embarrassing.
We came out flat. We made a lot of mistakes.
Every goal that happened was because we made a mistake,
not because Belgium did something unbelievable. But because we made

(32:24):
a mistake, right, that's what it was. That's why we
lost the way we did, and it was awful, and
it was this is the worst thing.

Speaker 3 (32:31):
We need a new head coach. We need to be
able to.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
Tear down whatever youth system that we don't like, whether
it's the AYSO system or the club system in the
United States. We got to start over again and build
it just like Germany did. Right, That's what we got
to do, right, right, right. But now what's happened in
the ensuing week and a half. We watched Brazil go
home early. We watched Norway with Earling Holland, the big

(32:55):
breakout star of the World Cup, when they are fifteen
minutes away from penalties and the best striker in the world,
and he's got to come out of the game. What
do you mean you got to come out of the game.
You got to come out of the game.

Speaker 3 (33:04):
Is he injured? Well not really.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
Is he tired, yes, sort of? And you gotta watch
him sit and not get worked on. Just sit there
and drink water. Wait a minute, how is the best
player we have, the best striking world just coming out
of the game. How's it coming out of the game.
But nobody said Earling Hollin's got to go. Nobody said
Norri's got to redo their entire youth system there. But
Norway they got problems. France comes out just like the
United States come out against Belgium. They came out flat,

(33:26):
They came out nervous. A couple of their best players
look terrible. They questioned the coaching philosophy throughout the game
and bope did it after the game is over. France
had problems, man, and this is the best team in
the world that ran hot knight through better through the
World Cup. Just like the United States. The first few
games they look great and then they had a bad
time to have a bad game. France has problems. Now
England is going to sit back and go do we

(33:47):
keep tuckle, do we go get a new head coach?

Speaker 3 (33:49):
What do we do?

Speaker 1 (33:49):
We're questioning the tactics. We blew this? How did we
blow this? Were we were thirty minutes away from playing
for our first World Cup since nineteen sixty six and
we blew it? All of these these are five or
four of the best six or seven teams in the world,
and look at the problems they have that they have
to get out of the World Cup and solve. They

(34:11):
all have problems to solve. England's got problems, France has problems,
Norway brasilt. They all have problems to solve for the
next World Cup. Suddenly the United States, Oh, our issues
don't look so bad or they don't look as dire.
Now I'm not saying the United States does it. We
don't need to make some changes for the next World Cup.
We've talked about it, right, the guys to build around Balligan, Freeman, Tillman,

(34:33):
maybe a couple of others. But we move on from
the Golden generation because as we've seen, hey, they show
up flat too many times. They're not quite what we thought.
But this isn't a tear it all the way down
to the studs. It's not working. You would think that
that's what happened in the United States the way people
are talking about this. The last couple of weeks. We
won our group, right, we don't do that. We won
a game in the knockout round. We haven't done that
in a long time. The head coach is the right

(34:55):
head coach. Everything is okay, Yes, we need to adjust
for the next World Cup. We need new players, just
like every other country needs to do right. All of
a sudden, it's not where it's doom and gloom for
the United States and we need to just just break
it up and start over again, like we're the Jets
every two years. Oh, yes, we have some things, but
it's just normal adjustments and changes and personnel decisions to

(35:17):
make from one World Cup to the next, or from
our World Cup and to the Gold Cup, and we
move on from there. When you look at the United
States and when you take the World Cup into totality,
our problems aren't nearly as bad as they've been made
out to be the last couple of weeks.

Speaker 3 (35:31):
Well, but there are problems. It's like minor surgery. Minor
surgery if you're having it, eh, I'll talk to you tomorrow.
Minor surgery if I'm having it, is the will in
the right place? Did I clean up here? Did I
delete my browser history? Did I make sure I mean
all of these things I have to attend to. But
if you're having minor surgery, not a big deal. May

(35:55):
I'm thinking it's the end rights same thing here. Look,
Norway does belong in the category with the rest of
these guys. I mean, they were just happy to be there.
They were happy with their consolation. Drunk rack won stuff
tags a dermy thing. They hadn't been there in twenty
eight years since Alfie Holland was running around, and even
that he had some choice words for the officials on

(36:16):
his way out. And yes, and still have questions about
why Holland wasn't on the pitch, although I guess he
has now reached out to Tom Holland about that dinner
date now, so it looks like maybe that'll actually happen
and hopefully there'll be some great footage that flows from
there for everybody.

Speaker 1 (36:32):
Tom Holland's not going to go If Earling Holland pans
The Odyssey, because Tom Holland is very upset in anybody
that doesn't like that movie, well, I have no doubt.

Speaker 3 (36:40):
I mean at ninety nine percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Yeah, so,
I mean, you know, and it'll be the precursor and
the preview of Lebron James announcement either tomorrow or Friday
at Fanatics Fest. But all of that to say, right England,
I think I'm going to put on I'm sure on
our iHeartRadio app and the inner webs. I can find

(37:01):
some British sports breakdown where people are calling in and
losing their minds. I have no doubt that that is
the case, because the drought continues. We saw the clever
headlines making fun of Harry Kane all of those things,
well because he was invisible two straight games too. But
all of that to say, right, Brazil has it one

(37:23):
thin two thousand and two. But those are their problems.
We're worried about ours.

Speaker 1 (37:28):
And we're trying to get from a top fifteen team
into the top.

Speaker 3 (37:31):
But I'm trying to figure out how good that gap is, right,
because again, the teams we beat, we're not good. If
we're going to go to the rankings, And again I
call those sports source people and they can tell me
how good. Gotta listen to the whole show man, get
those people on it. I'll get them on it so
they can tell me how good these squads are. And

(37:53):
then the Belgium game, pressure diamonds, all of that stuff,
the pipes burst right when whenever you add it all together.
But no, I like your positivity. I think I'm gonna
try to adopt that. No bad days.

Speaker 1 (38:07):
I want to tell him you mad, We do have it.
We do have things to worry, but it's not the
doom and gloom you think it is.

Speaker 3 (38:13):
Just get Pochatino resigned.

Speaker 1 (38:15):
That's first thing. Paying what he needs, right, you don't
want to go back to I want to do that.
Coming up next, we got a great basketball hot take
coming your way, and it's got to do with the
All Star game.
