it was really really funny and and uh, you know,
it put a smile on my face. And what's been
a really bad season for the Mets.

Yeah, yeah, which is what's most important, long long ago.
I almost got to say that as a part of it,
because that's been like my default is, hey, Jason, the Mets,

But uh, today, Pam and I and Zoe go out
for lunch and we go to a coffee company, which
is a place we love, uh in Westchester, near where
Zoe used to play softball in Litlely.

And we go there.

And I'm wearing my Mets T shirt and we go
there to order, and we order our food and I order,
I get an omelet, and so the the waitress comes back,
takes around okay, great, and then the waitress comes out
and then somebody else from the back comes out with
plate as well, and it's it's a guy from the
it's it's a guy from the back. He wasn't serving us,
so I did no, but he but everybody gets their
food that you know, they serve Pam first. They serve

zoe first, and the guy says to me, I know you.
I wanted to bring in your food like Jan sodo,
and I said okay, and he just you know, soda.
When he gets really wide, stands and he shifts his feet.
When he gets to the batter's box, he moves back
and forth. That's what he does. He gets over to
me with his food like the plate is the bat
and he starts shifting his weight from side to side

and moving the plate back and forth. And it's absolutely hysteric.
But I'm just going, oh my god. I didn't know
what to say. I really I was tongue tied. I
had no idea what to do. And my wife goes,
what is what is going on?

What's going on?

And Zoey goes, oh, I think he knows, he know,
he knows, daddy, he's doing Wan soda. And I was like,
baby girl, wait to know that, right, But he just
says here and he just moves it. He's doing the
Wan soda, which is awesome. I'm like, oh my god,
that is incredible.

the rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And I said, well,
funny you say that, I said, they used to be
called the Rockers. I go, they haven't had a team
that they're they're getting back at team having a team
in like twenty years because they folded. But they used

to be called the Rockers. She goes, wow, I thought
of that all by myself. I didn't know that I
had thought of a name that had been used.

I said, yeah, that's great, rock that's pretty good.

I mean the fact that you have the roller coaster

absolute sanity in the NFL today. No, I didn't say insanity.
I didn't say vinsanity. I didn't say lynn sanity. Absolute
sanity in the NFL today because the right player set
the market at the right position. Bjeon Robinson gets a

record running back deal from the Falcons, a three year
deal worth up to seventy five million dollars. He is
now the highest paid running back in NFL history. He's
getting fifty one million guaranteed. The deal was negotiated by
Clutch Sports. So congratulations, the holding is Overjon Robinson is paid,

and the best running back in the NFL is now
going to teach him how to play quarterback.

That's great. Now you got us money.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
But you know we're having trouble here, so we're just
gonna direct snap it to you.

We joked about the wildcat the other day when this
was becoming an issue at the quarterback position, and then
today when we're talking with Jason locking fora what did
he say?

I mean I want a thousand yards rushing, one thousand
yards receiving at one thousand yards passing from Jehan Robinson
this year.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
That's what I want.

Hey, you remember two hundred and fourteen carries in that
rookie year because they kept him in a box. Yeah,
three hundred four carries last year. I'm in twenty twenty
four to eighty seven last year. Again, James Wilder.

Has also go along with seventy nine.

Seventy nine sixty one fifty eight are the reception totals.
James Wilder of the Buccaneers in eighty four had four
hundred and ninety two touches. Now, if they direct snap
at wildcat style, that's not that that'll still count because
it's a rushing attempt. So maybe we could still get there.
But yeah, there's your standard. Let's go.

Yeah, but if he he's got to have a pass
attempt for it to count as.

Every all of a sudden, Kyle Pitts is going, hey man,
I was the Remember after eight years, I'm the breakout
guy at thirty five years old. But this is why
I love this story because and it doesn't make sense,
but at least this part makes sense. Nobody but the
best running backs in the NFL set the bar salary wise, nobody,
(08:57):
No running back gets paid the top salary unless you
are the number one running back in the game. Right,
Saquon Barkley had to run for two thousand yards he
got paid. It's great to see running backs getting paid.
We kind of coming back to running backs a little
bit after getting to quarterbacks because people realized, oh, okay,
running backs get hurt, let's go to the quarterbacks. But now, boy,
(09:19):
if the quarterback stink, we don't want them to have
the ball more. We want to be able to run
the ball. So we're coming back to running backs now.
I feel bad for all the guys that just had
the wrong time in their careers, but they're coming back
to running backs now, and the guys are getting paid,
and the.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
Game's changed, right because now we're talking, you know, with Robinson,
with Gibbs, with Barkley, I mean, catching the ball out
of the backfield such a big deal. I mean, Derrick
Henry is just such the outlier of the throwback style
of running back. Not to mention because he may be
on his last leg because of the substation Christian McCaffrey
(09:53):
there in San Francisco.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
But the whole thing is that, Okay, Robinson was a
hold in Jamier Bibs as a hold it. Okay, these
are your two best running backs, and now that Jon
Robinson signed, I'm sure Jamiir Gibbs will be a couple
of days a way. Okay, here's what the market is.
It's gonna be somewhere in that neighbor.

Give me a dollar more.

He's he's just as good.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
He's a little bit different guy, not quite the guy
that you can give him the ball as many times running,
but you can throw it to him more.

I mean, these two guys are amazing and so but
they're gonna set the mark right, and the running back position,
there's sanity to it because the best guys are the
ones setting the mark. Whereas you go to wide receivers
and quarterbacks and it's what the hell are you guys doing?
Like I get the a we're desperate, But like when
the Jaguars give Trevor Lawrence fifty five million dollars, suddenly
(10:42):
an average quarterback is gonna make fifty million dollars a year,
Like what the hell?
Speaker 3 (10:45):
Man?
Speaker 1 (10:46):
Like teams can't do that? And wide receiver wise, how
are guys who are not even in the top fifteen
getting thirty million.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
Dollars a year? Right? Like Zay Flowers is good.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
I like Zay Flowers, But there's a dozen wide receivers
I would give that money to before give that to him, right, Like.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
I you heard the stat and lock and board throughout right,
just in terms of red zone targets and touchdowns, like
he's a non factor in the red zone.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
Yeah, I mean, I I don't I don't get how
we have the abs and and and people are getting
paid now and then and the running backs you're getting
paid a lot of money. But I don't get how
we can do it at running back, but we can't
do it at quarterback and wide receiver. And that's why
you're seeing the wide receivers teams deciding, Okay, we're gonna
cycle through guys one year to the next because we

have a young guy we think we can get the
same production out of and someone we're gonna like, there's
there's no shortage of players you can draft this year
that you think, hmm, could this guy or and if
he if he's what we think he is, give us
z a Flowers like production.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Of course it can.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
And we got him on a rookie contract and maybe
it's a second round contract that we can do this
thing for five years whatever you want to do. Right,
there's there's no way the teams don't don't think. But
yet you still see at quarterback or see well, I
don't understand how it gets so and in the quarterback
especially has gotten so out of whack that team that
you know you got, we got thirty two teams going, hey, okay,
let's make sure the best players are getting paid and
(12:07):
they're setting the market. Let's make sure that Brady and
Mahomes and Josh Allen, these guys are setting the market.
The MVPs lamar Jackson's. I mean, when you get into
some of the some of the contracts you've seen the
last couple of years, I go, you, there's no wonder
why teams feel like I can't compete. I can't take
this percentage up in my salary cap for a guy
that's the twentieth best quarterback in the.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
NFL just because life could be a lot worse.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
I can't do that, right, Like, how do we have
it for running backs and we don't get it for
quarterbacks and wide receivers? Like we need some sort of
sanity to get in there at quarterback and wide receiver
the next couple of years.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
Well, with wide receivers, it's a strange phenomenon, right, that pairing,
as if you were playing fantasy football. All right, I
need to grab this guy's number one receiver, and now
I've got I'm locked in right because anything he does
I win twice. Okay, that's all finding good. What about
(12:59):
wide receiver two, three, four and the tight end? Oh
and the running back out of the backfield that you
don't get from that wide receiver production. And to your point, yeah,
I can find another guy with running backs. We see
it all the time. You can find guys now when
we're talking about b John Robinson, Jamier Gibbs, Barkley. And
(13:19):
that's just a cut above and for the quarterback position.
For as long as you and I have been doing
this together, it's not a function of whether I've got
the one. It's like do I have just above the fold?
As it were, It's like, what's my alternative? And we
were laughing a little bit about the rankings when you
(13:42):
get to the Jets, the Browns, and just history of
certain franchises, hell, the Bears until Caleb Williams showed up.
Outside of a year or two of Eric Kramer firing
the ball around and the wishing, wanting, hoping of what
the Jake Cutler era, It's it's a long time. I mean,
how many how many times can we reference Sid Luckman
(14:02):
in twenty twenty six or whatever you thought of Jim McMahon.
They generated a bunch of offense, a lot of it
on the strength of what the defense provided back in
the day. But all of that to say, it's always
been all right, it's your turn. Otherwise we've got to
shuffle up and deal with whatever the backup guy was,

or we go back into the draft and we hope
to get lucky. All right, We've been talking about that
with draft with prospects. In terms of the trade deadline
in baseball, it becomes the same thing. So if I've
got a guy, and this is a lot about the
sport as well, in terms of continuity and consistency, right
look at look at how much Jalen hurts year and

a year people wear on him. It's like, how about
you actually keep the same coordinator for more than a
season or two and there's something built in that you're
building on versus Nope, I don't like that. Throw the
those white boards out. We're starting from scratch. We're not
even gonna use that anymore. I mean, that's what he's

had to do year after year. Alex Smith, all those
years in San Francisco. Next guy, Next guy. Next guy
goes to Kansas City, better teaching continuity inconsistency in the approach,
and low and Baldy became a pretty damn good quarterback
before he got hurt, right, and then the Patrick Mahomes
era begins. But the quarterback position, and you and I
(15:28):
with felt it with our teams, Jason, it would have
been nice to at least have had that decision somewhere
along the way.

or fourth time John Harbaugh has had to say I
don't think I need to say anything when it comes
to Jackson Dart and Cam scattabo he should have stuck
the landing on that backflip. I don't think you say nothing,
But then it turned out he did talk to Cam
Scataboo and say, listen, dude, don't do this. But how

many times are you gonna hear this from Horrbor?

I have to worry about I have to talk to him.
I almost feel like he's scared, like he's scared of
really throwing down that I'm the head coach and this
is my way, because he's worried about how he gets
off to a start with a couple of players that
quite honestly, are already gonna be and will always be
way more popular than him, right because they came in
as icons and cult heroes last year with their style

of play, re energizing the Giants after years of not
playing well of boring football. Here come a couple of
guys who are incredibly talented and they're a lot of fun,
and I feel like Harbaugh doesn't know how to handle them,
and I'm backing off, backing off when really a lot
of other coaches would go, hey, don't do that, run
a lap or something else, whatever it is, Hey, don't
(18:10):
do that. You do that again, We're gonna get into
your coat. You do that back up again? Can We're
getting into your contract right, This is not gonna be
a fun Hey. We want you know, we're getting into you.
Gotta be a professional. Now, let me get your attention
as quickly as possible. I love you, man, and I
can't wait to see what you do. But you do
that again, we'll get into your contract.

Jackson. You do stuff like this, there's gonna be ramifications.
You can't.

You can't be a leader and piss off the entire
team by doing something like that. Like I feel like
he's bid off so much with this giant. Anybody would
have bid off more than they can chew with these guys,
and you would think that if anybody can handle it,
it's gonna be John Harbor, who'd been through a lot. Right,
been through. I have to say goodbye to Joe Flacco,
who won me a Super Bowl. I have to say
hello to Lamar Jackson. Have to deal with expectations every

single year, and expectations that didn't materialize with the Ravens
when I was the head coach. But now this is
something completely different, and I want to go. Man, you
talk about things can be great or can absolutely explode, right,
Like the seventy six ers, They could be great this year,
but it could absolutely be a firestorm and explode spectacularly.
Like I feel that's the same thing for the Giants.
(19:15):
This could be awesome because they have the talent up
and down the roster, especially if elite neighbors is healthy. Yeah,
the tight end you've wanted the last few years. Everything
is working great, man, the Giants talent wise, that job
is the envy of everybody across the NFL. But this
can also blow up spectacularly. I could see the players
feuding with John Harbaugh. Is Jackson dark gonna get along
(19:35):
with Harball if he absolutely has to start coming down
in and telling him things to do and not to do,
Like you could how many times you have to tell
a guy, Hey, you know, we want you to make
sure you slide. I don't slide, you gotta slide. I
don't slide, you gotta slide, I don't slide. Don't do
the backflips. I like doing the backflips. Don't do the backflips.
I like doing the backflips. Like, how many times can
you do that?
Speaker 3 (19:54):
Right?
Speaker 1 (19:54):
Like I as good as it could go, he could
go great for the Giants. I could see it going
spectacularly bad as well.
Speaker 4 (19:59):
No, that's right, you're riding the lightning with these two
guys in particular, but with with anybody in any field,
all of you out there, whatever you do for work
and and your family members, whatever. There there's that little
bit of chaos that has to come come aboard with
trying to be great at something right, and you have
(20:21):
to figure out how to measure it and keep it contained.
But it's also you know, when we go back to look,
Kyler Murray is a guy that is a lightning rod
right now. A lot of like a little passive one
liners about his video game acumen whatever. If everything always
comes easy for you, it's hard to have someone come
over at the top of go no, No, here's it's it's
not quite adjusting perfectly, and it's throwing everybody off because
(20:44):
you're you're playing on your own speed. We need you
to work with him. That's a tough thing. Likewise, with Harball,
he's coming in and for Jackson Darton's Camp Scataboo, the recklessness,
the Bravados, what's made them great and now trying to
get them to dial it down for their own good
and for the good of the team. Man. That is
that is a delicate balance you are trying to do there,
(21:06):
particularly when it comes to Scataboo. I mean the guy.
The guy is the Juggernaut from the the Marvel universe, right.
He just wants to run through walls, cursing people and
go on and do his thing. That's what he does.
Jackson Dart. He's gonna play recklessly, he's gonna put himself
in harm's way, and he's gonna make some great plays.
(21:26):
But there are gonna be a number of times, like
I don't know, go back to all the times you
and I would be sitting here watching a Lakers game
Anthony Davis is down again? Is he gonna stay down?
What do you think? And we're like putting odds on
it as to how many more minutes he's gonna play
for the rest of the game. That's Jackson Dart in
a nutshell. But when he's on the field, he's electric
and things can happen. So for Harbaugh, after all the
(21:48):
years of what was relative sanity and stable work, there
not that Lamar Jackson didn't give you some scares going
out of the hocket every once in a while. I
mean that was child's play compared to what he's walked
into here with the Jets.

I mean, this is good luck.

He's had a division full of chaos. You got the

you just can't get that Mets out of you. His
first start for Tampa Bay tonight, and I told you, hey, man,
he's gonna go like nine and one with an era
at two point two.

He couldn't pitch in New York. That was his thing, right,

I know it's one game, but wow, the Rays have
to sit here and say, man, we just watched the
Red Sox keep winning, the Yankees win, They've changed the
direction of their team. We got our big guy and
he couldn't even get out of the fourth inning.

Yeah, look at hits aloud. Seven earned runs, just absolute
Congo line around the Base's great work by those five
relievers before they got to Baker to close it out,
because Tampa comes back to win the game before it's
all said done in eleven innings. But you look at

the Rockies team batting average of two point fifty four.
They teed off on him though. Yeah, look he's still
shaking off the Mets right it takes it.

I can't shake the Mets off. I mean, look, we.

Meanwhile, the debut for Terry School, even though he pitched well,
not nearly enough. The Dodgers fall to the Cubs. They
lose five to one. It's their fifth loss in a row.
Dave Roberts even said after the game, we got to
find a way to win a game. All this talk
the Dodgers are never gonna lose again, noting baseball.

They're playing the Cubs. You know what you do? You
invoked something Mark Gray said long long time ago.

I mean, really, I don't think you need any more
evidence than that. You know, teams don't clinch by getting
guys of the deadline in any in baseball at all. Right, Like, yeah,
the Dodgers are gonna be good. And the more players
you bring in, you buy contention, and you buy the postseason.
That's what it means to get a guy like schoobl
You buy the postseason. Maybe you buy better a better

path in the postseason as far as more town. But
everybody's got to play, and it's not like that all
of a sudden, Hey, the Dodgers are gonna be unbeatable.
Because this is the beginning of August. The Dodgers have
to play fifty more games and try to and try
to figure things out. Uh, and who knows where their
health is going to be. Is school gonna be the
same picture with the Dodgers? And even if he is,

are you gonna run into a team that's hotter? They
don't have the best record in baseball anymore the Brewers do.
And oh, by the way, uh, you know when when
you get to the playoffs, it is a crapshoot. The
hottest team wins. You gotta be hot. And the Dodgers
got bailed out in the last two postseasons by a
bullpen game in Miguel Rojas. So I mean, I don't
know any more evidence other than watching tonight in the
last few nights to go oh okay, So yeah, the

Dodgers will be there.

They'll be there.

But to talk about them ruining baseball and they're gonna win,
let's have that conversation if they do win the World
Series again and school Bol is the MVP because he

then instead of now where the Dodgers have to win
a game. And and really that's how baseball goes. It's
different than all the other sports.

they were breaking it down, and you look at the
Dodgers and one thing, they get a lot of guys
on base, but you know what they do, they erase

And you meet a pitcher and the way it works
with specialization, now you don't get to see a guy

But uh, today, Pam and I and Zoe go out
for lunch and we go to a coffee company, which
is a place we love, uh in Westchester, near where
Zoe used to play softball in Litlely.

And we go there.

And I'm wearing my Mets T shirt and we go
there to order, and we order our food and I order,
I get an omelet, and so the the waitress comes back,
takes around okay, great, and then the waitress comes out
and then somebody else from the back comes out with
plate as well, and it's it's a guy from the
it's it's a guy from the back. He wasn't serving us,
so I did no, but he but everybody gets their
food that you know, they serve Pam first. They serve

zoe first, and the guy says to me, I know you.
I wanted to bring in your food like Jan sodo,
and I said okay, and he just you know, soda.
When he gets really wide, stands and he shifts his feet.
When he gets to the batter's box, he moves back
and forth. That's what he does. He gets over to
me with his food like the plate is the bat
and he starts shifting his weight from side to side

and moving the plate back and forth. And it's absolutely hysteric.
But I'm just going, oh my god. I didn't know
what to say. I really I was tongue tied. I
had no idea what to do. And my wife goes,
what is what is going on?

And Zoey goes, oh, I think he knows, he know,
he knows, daddy, he's doing Wan soda. And I was like,
baby girl, wait to know that, right, But he just

called the Rockers. I go, they haven't had a team
that they're they're getting back at team having a team
in like twenty years because they folded. But they used

of that all by myself. I didn't know that I
had thought of a name that had been used.

absolute sanity in the NFL today. No, I didn't say insanity.
I didn't say vinsanity. I didn't say lynn sanity. Absolute
sanity in the NFL today because the right player set
the market at the right position. Bjeon Robinson gets a

record running back deal from the Falcons, a three year
deal worth up to seventy five million dollars. He is
now the highest paid running back in NFL history. He's
getting fifty one million guaranteed. The deal was negotiated by
Clutch Sports. So congratulations, the holding is Overjon Robinson is paid,

and the best running back in the NFL is now
going to teach him how to play quarterback.

That's great. Now you got us money.

But you know we're having trouble here, so we're just

We joked about the wildcat the other day when this
was becoming an issue at the quarterback position, and then
today when we're talking with Jason locking fora what did
he say?

I mean I want a thousand yards rushing, one thousand
yards receiving at one thousand yards passing from Jehan Robinson
this year.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
That's what I want.

Hey, you remember two hundred and fourteen carries in that
rookie year because they kept him in a box. Yeah,
three hundred four carries last year. I'm in twenty twenty
four to eighty seven last year. Again, James Wilder.

Has also go along with seventy nine.

Seventy nine sixty one fifty eight are the reception totals.
James Wilder of the Buccaneers in eighty four had four
hundred and ninety two touches. Now, if they direct snap
at wildcat style, that's not that that'll still count because
it's a rushing attempt. So maybe we could still get there.

Every all of a sudden, Kyle Pitts is going, hey man,
I was the Remember after eight years, I'm the breakout
guy at thirty five years old. But this is why
I love this story because and it doesn't make sense,
but at least this part makes sense. Nobody but the
best running backs in the NFL set the bar salary wise, nobody,

No running back gets paid the top salary unless you
are the number one running back in the game. Right,
Saquon Barkley had to run for two thousand yards he
got paid. It's great to see running backs getting paid.
We kind of coming back to running backs a little
bit after getting to quarterbacks because people realized, oh, okay,
running backs get hurt, let's go to the quarterbacks. But now, boy,
(09:19):
if the quarterback stink, we don't want them to have
the ball more. We want to be able to run
the ball. So we're coming back to running backs now.
I feel bad for all the guys that just had
the wrong time in their careers, but they're coming back
to running backs now, and the guys are getting paid,
and the.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
Game's changed, right because now we're talking, you know, with Robinson,
with Gibbs, with Barkley, I mean, catching the ball out
of the backfield such a big deal. I mean, Derrick
Henry is just such the outlier of the throwback style
of running back. Not to mention because he may be
on his last leg because of the substation Christian McCaffrey
(09:53):
there in San Francisco.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
But the whole thing is that, Okay, Robinson was a
hold in Jamier Bibs as a hold it. Okay, these
are your two best running backs, and now that Jon
Robinson signed, I'm sure Jamiir Gibbs will be a couple
of days a way. Okay, here's what the market is.
It's gonna be somewhere in that neighbor.

Give me a dollar more.

He's he's just as good.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
He's a little bit different guy, not quite the guy
that you can give him the ball as many times running,
but you can throw it to him more.

I mean, these two guys are amazing and so but
they're gonna set the mark right, and the running back position,
there's sanity to it because the best guys are the
ones setting the mark. Whereas you go to wide receivers
and quarterbacks and it's what the hell are you guys doing?
Like I get the a we're desperate, But like when
the Jaguars give Trevor Lawrence fifty five million dollars, suddenly
(10:42):
an average quarterback is gonna make fifty million dollars a year,
Like what the hell?
Speaker 3 (10:45):
Man?
Speaker 1 (10:46):
Like teams can't do that? And wide receiver wise, how
are guys who are not even in the top fifteen
getting thirty million.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
Dollars a year? Right? Like Zay Flowers is good.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
I like Zay Flowers, But there's a dozen wide receivers
I would give that money to before give that to him, right, Like.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
I you heard the stat and lock and board throughout right,
just in terms of red zone targets and touchdowns, like
he's a non factor in the red zone.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
Yeah, I mean, I I don't I don't get how
we have the abs and and and people are getting
paid now and then and the running backs you're getting
paid a lot of money. But I don't get how
we can do it at running back, but we can't
do it at quarterback and wide receiver. And that's why
you're seeing the wide receivers teams deciding, Okay, we're gonna
cycle through guys one year to the next because we
(11:31):
have a young guy we think we can get the
same production out of and someone we're gonna like, there's
there's no shortage of players you can draft this year
that you think, hmm, could this guy or and if
he if he's what we think he is, give us
z a Flowers like production.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Of course it can.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
And we got him on a rookie contract and maybe
it's a second round contract that we can do this
thing for five years whatever you want to do. Right,
there's there's no way the teams don't don't think. But
yet you still see at quarterback or see well, I
don't understand how it gets so and in the quarterback
especially has gotten so out of whack that team that
you know you got, we got thirty two teams going, hey, okay,
let's make sure the best players are getting paid and
(12:07):
they're setting the market. Let's make sure that Brady and
Mahomes and Josh Allen, these guys are setting the market.
The MVPs lamar Jackson's. I mean, when you get into
some of the some of the contracts you've seen the
last couple of years, I go, you, there's no wonder
why teams feel like I can't compete. I can't take
this percentage up in my salary cap for a guy
that's the twentieth best quarterback in the.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
NFL just because life could be a lot worse.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
I can't do that, right, Like, how do we have
it for running backs and we don't get it for
quarterbacks and wide receivers? Like we need some sort of
sanity to get in there at quarterback and wide receiver
the next couple of years.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
Well, with wide receivers, it's a strange phenomenon, right, that pairing,
as if you were playing fantasy football. All right, I
need to grab this guy's number one receiver, and now
I've got I'm locked in right because anything he does
I win twice. Okay, that's all finding good. What about
(12:59):
wide receiver two, three, four and the tight end? Oh
and the running back out of the backfield that you
don't get from that wide receiver production. And to your point, yeah,
I can find another guy with running backs. We see
it all the time. You can find guys now when
we're talking about b John Robinson, Jamier Gibbs, Barkley. And
(13:19):
that's just a cut above and for the quarterback position.
For as long as you and I have been doing
this together, it's not a function of whether I've got
the one. It's like do I have just above the fold?
As it were, It's like, what's my alternative? And we
were laughing a little bit about the rankings when you
(13:42):
get to the Jets, the Browns, and just history of
certain franchises, hell, the Bears until Caleb Williams showed up.
Outside of a year or two of Eric Kramer firing
the ball around and the wishing, wanting, hoping of what
the Jake Cutler era, It's it's a long time. I mean,
how many how many times can we reference Sid Luckman
(14:02):
in twenty twenty six or whatever you thought of Jim McMahon.
They generated a bunch of offense, a lot of it
on the strength of what the defense provided back in
the day. But all of that to say, it's always
been all right, it's your turn. Otherwise we've got to

This could be awesome because they have the talent up
and down the roster, especially if elite neighbors is healthy. Yeah,
the tight end you've wanted the last few years. Everything
is working great, man, the Giants talent wise, that job
is the envy of everybody across the NFL. But this
can also blow up spectacularly. I could see the players
feuding with John Harbaugh. Is Jackson dark gonna get along

with Harball if he absolutely has to start coming down
in and telling him things to do and not to do,
Like you could how many times you have to tell
a guy, Hey, you know, we want you to make
sure you slide. I don't slide, you gotta slide. I

guys in particular, but with with anybody in any field,

and and your family members, whatever. There there's that little
bit of chaos that has to come come aboard with
trying to be great at something right, and you have

to figure out how to measure it and keep it contained.
But it's also you know, when we go back to look,
Kyler Murray is a guy that is a lightning rod
right now. A lot of like a little passive one
liners about his video game acumen whatever. If everything always
comes easy for you, it's hard to have someone come
over at the top of go no, No, here's it's it's
not quite adjusting perfectly, and it's throwing everybody off because

you're you're playing on your own speed. We need you
to work with him. That's a tough thing. Likewise, with Harball,
he's coming in and for Jackson Darton's Camp Scataboo, the recklessness,
the Bravados, what's made them great and now trying to
get them to dial it down for their own good
and for the good of the team. Man. That is
that is a delicate balance you are trying to do there,

particularly when it comes to Scataboo. I mean the guy.
The guy is the Juggernaut from the the Marvel universe, right.
He just wants to run through walls, cursing people and
go on and do his thing. That's what he does.
Jackson Dart. He's gonna play recklessly, he's gonna put himself
in harm's way, and he's gonna make some great plays.

But there are gonna be a number of times, like
I don't know, go back to all the times you
and I would be sitting here watching a Lakers game
Anthony Davis is down again? Is he gonna stay down?
What do you think? And we're like putting odds on
it as to how many more minutes he's gonna play
for the rest of the game. That's Jackson Dart in
a nutshell. But when he's on the field, he's electric
and things can happen. So for Harbaugh, after all the

years of what was relative sanity and stable work, there
not that Lamar Jackson didn't give you some scares going
out of the hocket every once in a while. I
mean that was child's play compared to what he's walked
into here with the Jets.

of big pitchers here, number one boy, Freddy Peralta. Sometimes

you just can't get that Mets out of you. His
first start for Tampa Bay tonight, and I told you, hey, man,
he's gonna go like nine and one with an era
at two point two.

He's got to be great.

He can't.

He couldn't pitch in New York. That was his thing, right,
He couldn't pitch, and he could. There's no reason why
he struggled.

Andy Green, Mets manager, talked about how he you know,
he felt the pressure. Yeah, some people can pitch in
New York. Some people can't. Well, apparently he can't pitch

Peralta was like three top thirty prospects and not like, hey,

was to be expected.

I know it's one game, but wow, the Rays have
to sit here and say, man, we just watched the
Red Sox keep winning, the Yankees win, They've changed the
direction of their team. We got our big guy and
he couldn't even get out of the fourth inning.

Yeah, look at hits aloud. Seven earned runs, just absolute
Congo line around the Base's great work by those five
relievers before they got to Baker to close it out,
because Tampa comes back to win the game before it's
all said done in eleven innings. But you look at

the Rockies team batting average of two point fifty four.
They teed off on him though. Yeah, look he's still
shaking off the Mets right it takes it.

I can't shake the Mets off. I mean, look, we.

Talk about Sam Donald's Super Bowl champion. It took years
to get the Jets out of him.

It's like the Mets. They're following me everywhere I go.

Now, I would just be thrown up. I mean, you
know how hard it is to throw it A Galaraga
and Bishett Ellis Burks, Vinny Castilla and all these heavyweights
come on.

Man, Bingo, Maverick's dead. You're out of there. Kid.

Meanwhile, the debut for Terry School, even though he pitched well,
not nearly enough. The Dodgers fall to the Cubs. They
lose five to one. It's their fifth loss in a row.
Dave Roberts even said after the game, we got to
find a way to win a game. All this talk
the Dodgers are never gonna lose again, noting baseball.

They're playing the Cubs. You know what you do? You
invoked something Mark Gray said long long time ago.
Speaker 3 (27:25):
Okay, that'll be covered on other shows. I think other
shows might.

Okay, I'll just say, but like this shows.

I mean, really, I don't think you need any more
evidence than that. You know, teams don't clinch by getting
guys of the deadline in any in baseball at all. Right, Like, yeah,
the Dodgers are gonna be good. And the more players
you bring in, you buy contention, and you buy the postseason.
That's what it means to get a guy like schoobl
You buy the postseason. Maybe you buy better a better

path in the postseason as far as more town. But
everybody's got to play, and it's not like that all
of a sudden, Hey, the Dodgers are gonna be unbeatable.
Because this is the beginning of August. The Dodgers have
to play fifty more games and try to and try
to figure things out. Uh, and who knows where their
health is going to be. Is school gonna be the
same picture with the Dodgers? And even if he is,

are you gonna run into a team that's hotter? They
don't have the best record in baseball anymore the Brewers do.
And oh, by the way, uh, you know when when
you get to the playoffs, it is a crapshoot. The
hottest team wins. You gotta be hot. And the Dodgers
got bailed out in the last two postseasons by a
bullpen game in Miguel Rojas. So I mean, I don't
know any more evidence other than watching tonight in the
last few nights to go oh okay, So yeah, the

Dodgers will be there.

They'll be there.
Speaker 1 (28:41):
But to talk about them ruining baseball and they're gonna win,
let's have that conversation if they do win the World
Series again and school Bol is the MVP because he
throws two shutouts in the World Series, Let's have that
then instead of now where the Dodgers have to win
a game. And and really that's how baseball goes. It's
different than all the other sports.

Funny listening to a little bit of the radio broadcast
on our AM five to seventy LA Sports affiliate. As
they were breaking it down, and you look at the
Dodgers and one thing, they get a lot of guys
on base, but you know what they do, they erase
them swinging over the top of the ball they get
they get induced to into a lot of double plays

along the way. So you know, get them on, get
them over, get them in, get thwarted time and again.
And you meet a pitcher and the way it works
with specialization, now you don't get to see a guy
a second or third at bat. So yeah, I mean,
they're going to be cold spells in a long season.
