of the night right now, stuff that we've seen unfold
over the course of the last couple of hours. The
Miller Maws story. No, well we did we did? I
just again, man, I just keep thinking about all the
bad things my roommate might have done to me in
my and now I keep thinking, okay, after that, when

I had roommates out of college, when I had roommates,
when I worked at ESPN, Like, did I really pissed
somebody off that much? Where that could have been done
to my you know, Mike Pillow could have been grabbed
and farted on allegedly. I mean, I don't know.

live your best life. I don't know, man, all of

and oh boy again. I always want my dad to
listen to the show. But there's certain times I understand Dad,
when you when you can't listen, you can't listen, Dad,

A walk off off of Clay Holmes, the Yankees looking
to win to stay in first place in the Al East.
Holmes blows his eleventh save of the season and the
Yankees lose seven to four.

Another fantastic start from Rodin that gets lost six innings,
eleven strikeouts, one herd run.

You know this is this is mine. This is why
the Yankees can't. I can't buy them. I can't buy them.
Really seriously, even though on paper they are the best team.
I can't buy them because it's not just about navigating
the ninth inning, right, It's not like serious. Do they
have a problem. Yes, no, no they do because Clay Oh,
you can't blow eleven saves and be the closer. Only

Edwin Diaz can do that. Well, that's like White Sox
Tarry can't. You can't blow a leve Oh you can
even blow eleven saves with the White Sucks. You're going
to the Ring of Honor as an individual. Yeah, no,
you're going in the Ring of honor. If you're in
the White baton, you get one. You blew one last Tuesday,
not your turn. Every pitch of the White Socks have
had this season has blown at least five saves even
the starting pitchers. But it's not just the ninth inning,

which is a difficult thing now for the Yankees. They
used to be so dominant in the ninth inning, whether
it was Rivera or Roaldas Chapman for a couple of years,
and now that's become an area of weakness. But this
is why it's hard for me to buy the Yankees
as big time contenders and hey, this team that should
get out of the americanly get to the World Series,
because every few weeks there's always something that comes up

that makes you stop and say, oh wow, they really
they really have to overcome this if they're gonna be good.
And sometimes it's their starting pitching just completely just plops
out on them. Sometimes it's the bullpen. Sometimes it's nobody
but Aaron Judge hits the ball, it's just everybody else.

Every few weeks something happens that makes you go, oh wow,
the Yankees are in trouble, and you know, they rite
the ship and they they've stayed twenty games over five
hundred for a while. They've been a five hundred team
for a while. Now they got out big and they've
been twenty games over for a while, but you need
to you know, you're into September now and it needs
to be Okay, we're getting to the playoffs where we're
battening things down. You're not a team that's trying to

squeak in with deficiencies, right, You're not the Mets or
the Braves with injuries, or the Tigers or the rooss. No,
you're a team that height. We should be a World
Series favorite. So what are our weaknesses. Let's start taking
care of them. But like every couple of weeks, something
new comes up. It's like the Yankees are a are
a car that you buy that is brand new and
it's great, but then oh I gotta go in. Oh

the breaks need to be aligned. Okay, we're all align
the brakes. Oh wait a minute, we got a tail
light that's out. Okay, we got to fix that. Oh wait,
we need a new battery. Like every few weeks, something
happens with the Yankees that really puts a break on
their advancement. And it's different all the time. And now
the ninth inning we talked to John Paul Morossi. These
things are not going away, so this is a big

thing to deal with. But like I can't say that
all the Yankee is gonna take care of their things
be an overwhelming favorite. That's what it's hard for me
to say, Yes, I see them in the World Series.
I can't. No. But that's that's the beauty and the
terror of this season for a lot of teams. We
could do. We could play that game with many of
the would be contenders.

Going on down the road, right because they're battling Baltimore
in Division Baltimore the last month and a half.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
Why of lackluster play.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
We have to talk lock and forward down on Monday
nights sometimes, you know, because of the way they've operated.
Again the bullpen being a big part of that as well.
But you know, in Yankeeville, you've got so many guys
on the il. You've got players that were once upon
a time great hitters like DJ Lemayhew who suddenly forgot

how to hit, and the organization didn't go to the
bullpen and say the figured in bullpen of course, to
say hey, Jason, you know you're you're the kid, you're there,
come on up and help this law offense right now,
he was the guy that was supposed to be coming up.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Dominge is right, you're not meeting the Staten Island kids
in the little league doing that. You're doing all everything wrong, Man,
everything wrong.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
Like he was supposed to be the guy coming to
September and then he doesn't get called up. So you
got a lot of ill will towards the organization as well,
just saying you got other things that might help help,
but your September and towards the playoffs. And this is
what we get. So a little frustration with Cashman and
Boon once again.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
I mean, every few weeks it's something that makes you
stop and and think that's not You're not going to
navigate October with this, and then something it gets patched over,
and then something else comes up. You're not going to
navigate October with this. And this is the because we're
talking about teams for the World Series. Is like if
this was squeaking in the playoffs, you squeak in the
playoffs when you have a lot of a lot of faults.

But that's why, like the Yankees all they look so intimidate. Yeah, well,
really it's Aaron Judge having that season and it's it's
a lot of patchwork and trying to think your things out.
I mean, is it's just too leaky. They leak every
few weeks. And that's the problem way too much that
we're able to do that while we're seeing them with
the record that they've been able to post, right when
you're talking about an eighty win team with a month

left in the season. Now they're not running away and hiding,
and Baltimore's been there step for step, but with so
many teams, like we're looking at the Dodgers right they're
having this run, but we're still worried about what the
rotation looks like, Like we were talking about a little
bit earlier of trying to figure out exactly who's in,
who's out glass now Yamamoto, Clayton Kershaw, whether he's gonna

be able to walk And literally as we say this, they're
they're battling one of those down the road series against
the Angels and Mookie Betch just hit a ball like
five hundred feet so in the tenth inning. Now they've
got a sixty lead.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
So every time we get nervous about them, it's like
they go on a winning streak too. That masks some
of those things. And then like a marine layer here
in southern California, it burns off in the middle of
the suddenly the sun's ass like, oh okay, here we are.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Uh.

And I think the Yankees, the Dodgers, and teams several
other teams have that same effect where you start going
to the sky is falling. Then they win a few
few games. So it's kind of riding a roller coaster.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
At this point. And it's and I can't I can't
see them fixing so much. They're gonna enter the postseason
with a lot of flaws and they'll be one of
X amount of teams that you think can win the
World Series. But it's gonna be a couple of team
to squeak and you go, Okay, they're gonna be out
in the first round. But they're not gonna be the favorite.
It's not like, well, the Dodgers get in, they fix
their stuff, they're gonna be a big favorite. Though. The
(08:37):
Yankees will be just like the Astros or the Guardians
or the Orioles or anybody else that gets into the playoffs.
And hey, okay that that they're they're on equal footing
with those teams. Yeah, September problem, Okay, now the other well,
he's good. If he just went to bed tonight and
he'll be fine, okaycause it'll wake up till in the morning. Yeah,
because the thing is the bullpen is always the worst
(08:58):
thing with him. Oh, I don't of Walt's obsession with
bullpens for a while. They could lose a game one
nothing where the run is given up by the starting
pitcher in the first thing he would say, Ah, the
bullpen was just terrible for us. Tonight is terrible for us.
The other big story of the night. Look, and this
is going to prove a really big point. The Aces
beat the Sky tonight WNBA ninety to seventy one. It

was a runaway for the Aces from the jump. The
Sky were never really in this game. The headline's going
to be another double double for Angel Rees right, twelve points,
sixteen rebounds, four for twelve from the floor. Okay, we've
talked that this is what she does. She can't shoot, right,
she can't shoot. And I'm going to say this because
I feel like I'm not picking on Angel Reese, but

just the way that we feel and people feel like
if I talk about Caitlin Clark, I have to talk
about Angel Reaes, right. But let's just say because watching
this game tonight like you and I did. You could
watch all of the games, or you could watch one game. Well,
you could watch the last Case Clark game, and you
could watch this Angel Reese game. And there is no

doubt who affects the game more between Caitlyn Clark and
Angel Rees. Caitlyn Clark affects the game three times as
much as Angel Reese does. Angel Reese gets a lot.
She's a great rebounder. She's a great rebounder. I'm not
even talking about you in the offense, no, no, Sometimes rebounds
come in there really not contested, and she grabs it.
Sometimes she goes in and she fights between three players

and gets rebounds. So she gets the rebounds, right, she does.
Whatever you want to say about the rebounds. She gets
more than anybody knows she is. She is a great rebounder.
But that's really what she does. Caitlyn Clark affects the
game so many other ways by scoring, by passing, she
also picks up rebounds and steals and assists, and you
have to you have to create your defense to figure

out and guard against what she does, which has really
opened things up for Leah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell. They're
terrific players too, and now this fever teams, I don't
want to play them. They got They're a strong, three
headed monster. And it's all because, hey, it's pick your poison.
Because Caitlyn Clark has turned into a point guard that
is not just a shoot first player, but she leads
the league and assists, and people forget about that for
(11:10):
every double double, fra injuries, Hey double doubles for Katelyn
Clark leads a league and assists. You just have to
watch one game and see I see exactly how Caitlin
Clark affects this game, the pressure she puts on the
team every time her team is on offense. Angel Reese,
that's not the case, that's not the case. You have
to be able to shoot. You have to be a
threat offensively. They don't run a lot of plays for
you can't when you shoot four for twelve, four for thirteen,

four for fourteen. And she's got an opportunity this year,
even more of an opportunity for than Caitlyn Clark, because
her and Kamilla Cardoso came into this into this year saying, hey,
you're the stars of the team now, so going you
guys have carte Blanche, Right, this is what we have.
We drafted you two to be the cornerstones of this team.
And look, Camilla Cardoso and Angel Reese are going to
be superstars in WNBA and they're gonna and they help

carry the league for the next ten years. They've gotten
a lot more opportunity to do what they can with
it because they're the biggest players. Where Caitlyn Clark has
come in, Hey, we've got a couple of really good
players on this team here, and now fit your way
in and now figure out your way to dominate. And
she's done that. So someone who's had to come in
and kind of and kind of carve out her role
a little bit more like she doesn't get the the
(12:17):
respect for that because it's like, oh, you're joining a
team and it's just shot after shot because the team
is terrible, and it's a little bit of a different
circumstance for the both of them.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
Well, if Caitlyn Clark wanted to, I mean, and we
talked about it, and there have been certain games where
you just say, why are you not shooting the ball
in the fourth quarter? Why We've had a couple of
those instances. It's like she's taken one shot in the
final eight minutes of a game and done nothing but
the quote right basketball play. Okay, whatever we go through.

But there's no question if she just wanted to shoot
twenty five times a game, she can set scoring records.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
She can do that. Not gonna be a very good team.
I think he's the number nine leading scorer in the NBA.
WNBA aren't going to come, you know, round to her defense.
That's one of the criticisms.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
But they seem to have gotten a much better rapport
as the season's going on. And and this just came
through from the at w NBA Twitter account. With the
Chicago Sky loss and an Atlanta Dream loss, the Innana
Fever have secured their place in the twenty twenty four
WNBA playoffs.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
Now you saw their odds to win the title when
they had the Olympic break where they were out one
hundred to one as of this morning, eighteen to one.
Look out, hopefully got those odds. Did you get those odds?
They'll get those odds.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Look at that, those odds. I mean a lot of
excitement to it.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
And again, different styles, different players, but it keeps tongues wagging,
which is good.

For the league.

Right. We talked about it a little bit last night
coming out of the whole Dallas.

I'll call it a fiasco for lack of a better term.
As we got swoops. Liverman.

Leverman did all the media rounds earlier today again popping
up on a bunch of shows. But you know, you
had Wings players just being like, all right, this sucks
that they're coming into our house and cheering for her.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
But guess what, it's a packed house. Yeah, and now
we have to convert them by winning games, and there'll
be more Wings fans, right because what are they got
nine wins on the year if they had seventeen. Now
it's they're realizing that, oh okay, this is kind of
what everybody goes through when your team is bad. Not

as many people come. When your team is good, more
people come. That's kind of how it is.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
And if the circuit circus comes to town, it benefits everybody.
And that's what you have with Indiana coming in, and
if you're a Wings player or anybody else in the WNBA, like,
that's what we want. That's what we're trying to build
and over time, maybe as more players come in, I mean,
I saw Holly row was tweeting out before about looking

in advance for final four tickets of this coming year,
and the get in is forty five hundred dollars.

Right. The anticipation for the women's college season and the
players that will then move into the WNBA is great,
So that momentum keeps flowing and everybody wins, and in
the interim there's a lot of still speecious reasoning and
arguments that get made in our world as folks play
and watch. It's kind of like listening to folks talk

about football games that they didn't watch. Right, I saw
a quick highlight package, let's go. I saw it on
red Zone because I saw the touchdown, so I was
very excited about that. Played agree really good. Hey, you know,
I think Kyle Yuschek might be the best player in
all of the NFL. I saw him score that touchdown.

And did you know that their designer clothes made.

the worst thing because remember you start with the runner
at second base as well. But you know you're up,

walk Otani. That's going piss Mookie Bets off.

I don't pick I've ever seen that guy that fire
like he's an excitable here. He's a great energy guy
and one of one of the great ambassadors for the game.
Like his podcast is fun, like he gets the biggest guys.

you feared for his teammates as he goes and he

That was really and fun. Maybe this is what the
Dodgers need to get going. Walker Bula gave him a
good outing tonight, you know, and good five innings two
runs of Dodgers will take it. But you're walking Shootani

I'm gonna go get even with that sandwich, and I
got a sandwich for dinner. John was like, ah, all right,
I didn't like that sandwich. Ha sucking sandwich. I'm getting
a new sandwich. Sound like that one better?

Like I very rarely do two sandwiches my dead but
I was just so unhappy and I'm like, I can't

eat again in a few hours.

our big NFL preview couple of nights here by giving
you a surprise playoff team from each conference in the NFL.
Right tomorrow will make our super Bowl picks, and we
got divisions to look at everything else. But we'll give

you tonight a surprise playoff team from each conference. Why
don't you kick things off your AFC playoff team, Mike
harmon Is, I'm trying to remember who I picked.

Trying to remember who you picked. I got a sheet
with a lot of names written on here. It's deep
and it's not playable. No, Well, look one that I like,
down the down the road comes south. There's a nice
good there's a nice one. There's a nice one because
I've got the Jacksonville Jaguars.

You like the Jags. I like the Jaguars.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
Trevor Lawrence and was banged up, missed a bunch of
time or tried to play through an injury down the stretch.
You missed Christian Kirk shuffle out some of that receiving corps.
I know Calvin Ridley is gone, we'll hear about him.
But you bring in Gabe Davis. You know my affinity
for Gabe Davis. She still got ETN in the backfield

and looking for them to recover as they try to
get the Patriots out of Matt Jones the backup if
need be.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
We got we had to know we had to knock
the Patriots out of him.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
But they're pretty deep, like people have handed the division
to Houston and kind of kicked everybody to the wayside.
So the odds twenty two to one for an AFC title. See,
I'm going different AFC South, Okay, to a team that
many think this.
Speaker 1 (22:16):
Will be the worst team in the AFC South. But
in an under the radar way, sometimes the right change
of an NFL team can cause problems, and this team
has made some adjustments in the offseason. I like what
they did and I can see squeezing into the playoffs.
Give me the Tennessee Titans. Okay, Will Levis flashed last year.
(22:41):
Wasn't great. Buddy flashed and showed, Hey, I have talent.
I can get this done. Brian Callahan's what he needs.
It's going to be a new offensive system, new offensive philosophy.
They brought in a couple of really good, solid players
and Tony Pollard and Calvin Ridley. They have the weapons
to be a nice nine to eight, ten and seven team.
And the division is not as strong as not anybody
(23:03):
that's gonna really run away with it. You have good
teams in it. But they overhauled their roster. Their defense
will be fine. They needed to help it defensive back.
They brought in a ton of help there, and this
is a team that will surprise. But it's gonna be
Levis to take that next step. But I feel good
that he will because anybody who flashes, I feel good
about a second year. You show me that you can
do something right. Even Trevor Lawrence, hey as bad a

first year as he flashed a couple of times. Okay,
so you know he's got a next level to them.
And it's not that Levis has suddenly turned into Patrick Mahomes,
but if he can turn into a league average quarterback,
then watch the Titans pile up wins because they have
enough weapons and they're gonna do it under the radar
now the first time out there. This is gonna be
a team that's gonna sneak up on people, and we're
gonna say, man, every time you look up, they're winning

twenty four to sixteen, twenty to thirteen, seventeen, fourteen, sixteen thirteen, Like,
how do they keep pulling out these games? They would
wait the other team played poorly. They seem to do
just enough offensively. There's a team like that every year.
In this year's team as the Titans.

Receiving Gore a little deeper, still trying to coake some
some out of some holdover guys from the last couple
of years, and then Spears in the backfield alongside Pollard.

You got two guys that can play.

of throw them out, was the Chargers.

Well, I know you like you like to charges more
than I do, but you like to try.

I don't love them, but like I think they're gonna
be just good enough to grind out games.

he actually put it there. He's going to be that

good right away. And the defense also is good right there.
You know, they they talk about wanting to be a
top five defense. They're already really good. The one question
they have had injuries and the defensive backfield, and they
need more time to play together. And that's one thing
the BEARSA hey, listen, we do so they'll probably struggle
with that a little bit out of the gate, but
that defense is going to get better as the year
goes on, as the weather gets colder. The Bears are

that may turn out to be the best NFL trade
of the last fifteen years when you think about it,
and william hasn't played Williams and you got stuck with Bright,
but you got DJ Moore, you got draft picks, you

got other players that that may be the best, sure
may end up playing well, but in the end, you
still got a hole that helped build this team. I'm real,
maybe the best trade in the NFL though maybe last
twenty maybe since since two thousand. Trying to think of
a bigger trade that affected I mean, you still have
to see the fallout of everything that happened in Seattle
with Russell Wilson. But I mean that's a that's a

what that trade like turns a team from Hey, we're
kind of figuring out to boom one more rough year
and now the good times are here.

Well, you know, mccaskey's trying to get everybody to tamp
down their expectation. Yeah, well yeah, well of course, but

out the Rockies three nothing, so New York still a

half game back of the Braves for that final wildcard
spot in the National League. As for the Al East,
that's also a tight race, as the Yankees led the
Orioles by half a game entering tonight's action, and Baltimore
Orioles got the win against the White Sox nine to nothing,
and the Yankees were ahead for much of that game,

trying to win to keep pay stay in that first
place spot. They were up four to three against the
Rangers in the bottom of the ninth inning, and while
Langford put the Orioles in first place and.

The Payoff pitch swung on in a deep drive the left.

Oh walk off slam for Wayan Langford. How about that

best roster in the NFL the last three years, because
that's what they've had, best roster the last three years.
This is it. Because they have eight guys making fifteen
million dollars a year. Next year, Brock Party needs to
get paid, right, and he's not. You can't just do

He's gonna get paid. He's gonna get sixty million a year.

If they did restructure a bunch of demas and freed

It's like you have no idea whether that all the
good fortune, health, everything that needs to go right is
going to do so again. So, yeah, you make the
moves here for the forty nine ers. We've got the players,
figure out the money, get everybody back in camp and
ready to go. Are you even admitted I made it
a lot harder than it had to be? Now the

other part of this now, so of course there's only
one holdout left. Of course, that's the Jets Son Reddick. Now,
I'll tell you two things. One because the Niners just
signed Trent Williams, so there's a bit more of an
impetus to get it done for next Monday night. But
seeing him signing autographs today, Rob talking about talking about
a Son Reddick today. The Jets move some money around.

Now, Yes, they did give money to Michael Carter, their nickelback,
who they wanted to get one of the best nickel
cornerbacks in the game. Look, the Jets defense is loaded.
This was something that was on the books for a
long time. They're moving money around by this time tomorrow. Ha,
Son Reddick is a Jet and he's going to play
a handful of plays next Monday night. It's I have
no doubt in my mind as to how effective he's
going to be. It's ridiculous, but this is what's gonna happen.

They'll give him some more money for this year, however,
it's going to be to get him into play, and
he will be a jet by this time tomorrow night.
He will be in, get three practices in, four practices
in before Monday night, and be ready to go again.

Make them sweat figure out where that happy him is.
Maybe you get some stuff that's not in the contract
per se by NFL and union, CBA agreements, et cetera.
But yeah, I would fully expect again another veteran recognizing
all right, I'll play it out to its end and

to figure out this whole Jamar's Chase thing. Yes, can
take it, Zach Taylor and really made him.

I can't buy them because it's not just about navigating
the ninth inning, right, It's not like serious. Do they
have a problem. Yes, no, no they do because Clay Oh,
you can't blow eleven saves and be the closer. Only

Edwin Diaz can do that. Well, that's like White Sox
Tarry can't. You can't blow a leve Oh you can
even blow eleven saves with the White Sucks. You're going
to the Ring of Honor as an individual. Yeah, no,
you're going in the Ring of honor. If you're in
the White baton, you get one. You blew one last Tuesday,
not your turn. Every pitch of the White Socks have
had this season has blown at least five saves even
the starting pitchers. But it's not just the ninth inning,

which is a difficult thing now for the Yankees. They
used to be so dominant in the ninth inning, whether
it was Rivera or Roaldas Chapman for a couple of years,
and now that's become an area of weakness. But this
is why it's hard for me to buy the Yankees
as big time contenders and hey, this team that should
get out of the americanly get to the World Series,
because every few weeks there's always something that comes up

that makes you stop and say, oh wow, they really
they really have to overcome this if they're gonna be good.
And sometimes it's their starting pitching just completely just plops
out on them. Sometimes it's the bullpen. Sometimes it's nobody
but Aaron Judge hits the ball, it's just everybody else.
(04:00):
Every few weeks something happens that makes you go, oh wow,
the Yankees are in trouble, and you know, they rite
the ship and they they've stayed twenty games over five
hundred for a while. They've been a five hundred team
for a while. Now they got out big and they've
been twenty games over for a while, but you need
to you know, you're into September now and it needs
to be Okay, we're getting to the playoffs where we're
battening things down. You're not a team that's trying to
(04:22):
squeak in with deficiencies, right, You're not the Mets or
the Braves with injuries, or the Tigers or the rooss. No,
you're a team that height. We should be a World
Series favorite. So what are our weaknesses. Let's start taking
care of them. But like every couple of weeks, something
new comes up. It's like the Yankees are a are
a car that you buy that is brand new and
it's great, but then oh I gotta go in. Oh
(04:43):
the breaks need to be aligned. Okay, we're all align
the brakes. Oh wait a minute, we got a tail
light that's out. Okay, we got to fix that. Oh wait,
we need a new battery. Like every few weeks, something
happens with the Yankees that really puts a break on
their advancement. And it's different all the time. And now
the ninth inning we talked to John Paul Morossi. These
things are not going away, so this is a big
(05:03):
thing to deal with. But like I can't say that
all the Yankee is gonna take care of their things
be an overwhelming favorite. That's what it's hard for me
to say, Yes, I see them in the World Series.
I can't. No. But that's that's the beauty and the
terror of this season for a lot of teams. We
could do. We could play that game with many of
the would be contenders.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
Going on down the road, right because they're battling Baltimore
in Division Baltimore the last month and a half.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
Why of lackluster play.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
We have to talk lock and forward down on Monday
nights sometimes, you know, because of the way they've operated.
Again the bullpen being a big part of that as well.
But you know, in Yankeeville, you've got so many guys
on the il. You've got players that were once upon
a time great hitters like DJ Lemayhew who suddenly forgot
(05:48):
how to hit, and the organization didn't go to the
bullpen and say the figured in bullpen of course, to
say hey, Jason, you know you're you're the kid, you're there,
come on up and help this law offense right now,
he was the guy that was supposed to be coming up.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Dominge is right, you're not meeting the Staten Island kids
in the little league doing that. You're doing all everything wrong, Man,
everything wrong.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
Like he was supposed to be the guy coming to
September and then he doesn't get called up. So you
got a lot of ill will towards the organization as well,
just saying you got other things that might help help,
but your September and towards the playoffs. And this is
what we get. So a little frustration with Cashman and
Boon once again.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
I mean, every few weeks it's something that makes you
stop and and think that's not You're not going to
navigate October with this, and then something it gets patched over,
and then something else comes up. You're not going to
navigate October with this. And this is the because we're
talking about teams for the World Series. Is like if
this was squeaking in the playoffs, you squeak in the
playoffs when you have a lot of a lot of faults.
(06:52):
But that's why, like the Yankees all they look so intimidate. Yeah, well,
really it's Aaron Judge having that season and it's it's
a lot of patchwork and trying to think your things out.
I mean, is it's just too leaky. They leak every
few weeks. And that's the problem way too much that
we're able to do that while we're seeing them with
the record that they've been able to post, right when
you're talking about an eighty win team with a month

left in the season. Now they're not running away and hiding,
and Baltimore's been there step for step, but with so
many teams, like we're looking at the Dodgers right they're
having this run, but we're still worried about what the
rotation looks like, Like we were talking about a little
bit earlier of trying to figure out exactly who's in,
who's out glass now Yamamoto, Clayton Kershaw, whether he's gonna

be able to walk And literally as we say this, they're
they're battling one of those down the road series against
the Angels and Mookie Betch just hit a ball like
five hundred feet so in the tenth inning. Now they've
got a sixty lead.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
So every time we get nervous about them, it's like
they go on a winning streak too. That masks some
of those things. And then like a marine layer here
in southern California, it burns off in the middle of
the suddenly the sun's ass like, oh okay, here we are.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Uh.

And I think the Yankees, the Dodgers, and teams several
other teams have that same effect where you start going
to the sky is falling. Then they win a few
few games. So it's kind of riding a roller coaster.

to squeak and you go, Okay, they're gonna be out
in the first round. But they're not gonna be the favorite.
It's not like, well, the Dodgers get in, they fix
their stuff, they're gonna be a big favorite. Though. The

Yankees will be just like the Astros or the Guardians
or the Orioles or anybody else that gets into the playoffs.
And hey, okay that that they're they're on equal footing
with those teams. Yeah, September problem, Okay, now the other well,
he's good. If he just went to bed tonight and
he'll be fine, okaycause it'll wake up till in the morning. Yeah,
because the thing is the bullpen is always the worst

thing with him. Oh, I don't of Walt's obsession with
bullpens for a while. They could lose a game one
nothing where the run is given up by the starting
pitcher in the first thing he would say, Ah, the
bullpen was just terrible for us. Tonight is terrible for us.
The other big story of the night. Look, and this
is going to prove a really big point. The Aces
beat the Sky tonight WNBA ninety to seventy one. It

was a runaway for the Aces from the jump. The
Sky were never really in this game. The headline's going
to be another double double for Angel Rees right, twelve points,
sixteen rebounds, four for twelve from the floor. Okay, we've
talked that this is what she does. She can't shoot, right,
she can't shoot. And I'm going to say this because
I feel like I'm not picking on Angel Reese, but

just the way that we feel and people feel like
if I talk about Caitlin Clark, I have to talk
about Angel Reaes, right. But let's just say because watching
this game tonight like you and I did. You could
watch all of the games, or you could watch one game. Well,
you could watch the last Case Clark game, and you
could watch this Angel Reese game. And there is no

doubt who affects the game more between Caitlyn Clark and
Angel Rees. Caitlyn Clark affects the game three times as
much as Angel Reese does. Angel Reese gets a lot.
She's a great rebounder. She's a great rebounder. I'm not
even talking about you in the offense, no, no, Sometimes rebounds
come in there really not contested, and she grabs it.
Sometimes she goes in and she fights between three players

and gets rebounds. So she gets the rebounds, right, she does.
Whatever you want to say about the rebounds. She gets
more than anybody knows she is. She is a great rebounder.
But that's really what she does. Caitlyn Clark affects the
game so many other ways by scoring, by passing, she
also picks up rebounds and steals and assists, and you
have to you have to create your defense to figure

out and guard against what she does, which has really
opened things up for Leah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell. They're
terrific players too, and now this fever teams, I don't
want to play them. They got They're a strong, three
headed monster. And it's all because, hey, it's pick your poison.
Because Caitlyn Clark has turned into a point guard that
is not just a shoot first player, but she leads
the league and assists, and people forget about that for

every double double, fra injuries, Hey double doubles for Katelyn
Clark leads a league and assists. You just have to
watch one game and see I see exactly how Caitlin
Clark affects this game, the pressure she puts on the
team every time her team is on offense. Angel Reese,
that's not the case, that's not the case. You have
to be able to shoot. You have to be a
threat offensively. They don't run a lot of plays for
you can't when you shoot four for twelve, four for thirteen,

four for fourteen. And she's got an opportunity this year,
even more of an opportunity for than Caitlyn Clark, because
her and Kamilla Cardoso came into this into this year saying, hey,
you're the stars of the team now, so going you
guys have carte Blanche, Right, this is what we have.
We drafted you two to be the cornerstones of this team.
And look, Camilla Cardoso and Angel Reese are going to
be superstars in WNBA and they're gonna and they help

carry the league for the next ten years. They've gotten
a lot more opportunity to do what they can with
it because they're the biggest players. Where Caitlyn Clark has
come in, Hey, we've got a couple of really good
players on this team here, and now fit your way
in and now figure out your way to dominate. And
she's done that. So someone who's had to come in
and kind of and kind of carve out her role
a little bit more like she doesn't get the the

respect for that because it's like, oh, you're joining a
team and it's just shot after shot because the team
is terrible, and it's a little bit of a different
circumstance for the both of them.

Well, if Caitlyn Clark wanted to, I mean, and we
talked about it, and there have been certain games where
you just say, why are you not shooting the ball
in the fourth quarter? Why We've had a couple of
those instances. It's like she's taken one shot in the
final eight minutes of a game and done nothing but
the quote right basketball play. Okay, whatever we go through.

But there's no question if she just wanted to shoot
twenty five times a game, she can set scoring records.

She can do that. Not gonna be a very good team.
I think he's the number nine leading scorer in the NBA.
WNBA aren't going to come, you know, round to her defense.
That's one of the criticisms.

But they seem to have gotten a much better rapport
as the season's going on. And and this just came

Chicago Sky loss and an Atlanta Dream loss, the Innana
Fever have secured their place in the twenty twenty four
WNBA playoffs.

they had the Olympic break where they were out one

be more Wings fans, right because what are they got

as many people come. When your team is good, more

And if the circuit circus comes to town, it benefits everybody.
And that's what you have with Indiana coming in, and

and over time, maybe as more players come in, I mean,

Right. The anticipation for the women's college season and the
players that will then move into the WNBA is great,
So that momentum keeps flowing and everybody wins, and in

arguments that get made in our world as folks play

about football games that they didn't watch. Right, I saw
a quick highlight package, let's go. I saw it on
red Zone because I saw the touchdown, so I was
very excited about that. Played agree really good. Hey, you know,
I think Kyle Yuschek might be the best player in

and looking for them to recover as they try to

But they're pretty deep, like people have handed the division
to Houston and kind of kicked everybody to the wayside.
So the odds twenty two to one for an AFC title. See,
I'm going different AFC South, Okay, to a team that
many think this.

Will be the worst team in the AFC South. But
in an under the radar way, sometimes the right change
of an NFL team can cause problems, and this team
has made some adjustments in the offseason. I like what
they did and I can see squeezing into the playoffs.
Give me the Tennessee Titans. Okay, Will Levis flashed last year.

Wasn't great. Buddy flashed and showed, Hey, I have talent.
I can get this done. Brian Callahan's what he needs.
It's going to be a new offensive system, new offensive philosophy.
They brought in a couple of really good, solid players
and Tony Pollard and Calvin Ridley. They have the weapons
to be a nice nine to eight, ten and seven team.
And the division is not as strong as not anybody

that's gonna really run away with it. You have good
teams in it. But they overhauled their roster. Their defense
will be fine. They needed to help it defensive back.
They brought in a ton of help there, and this
is a team that will surprise. But it's gonna be
Levis to take that next step. But I feel good
that he will because anybody who flashes, I feel good
about a second year. You show me that you can
do something right. Even Trevor Lawrence, hey as bad a

first year as he flashed a couple of times. Okay,
so you know he's got a next level to them.
And it's not that Levis has suddenly turned into Patrick Mahomes,
but if he can turn into a league average quarterback,
then watch the Titans pile up wins because they have
enough weapons and they're gonna do it under the radar
now the first time out there. This is gonna be
a team that's gonna sneak up on people, and we're
gonna say, man, every time you look up, they're winning

twenty four to sixteen, twenty to thirteen, seventeen, fourteen, sixteen thirteen, Like,
how do they keep pulling out these games? They would
wait the other team played poorly. They seem to do
just enough offensively. There's a team like that every year.
In this year's team as the Titans.

Receiving Gore a little deeper, still trying to coake some
some out of some holdover guys from the last couple
of years, and then Spears in the backfield alongside Pollard.

Oh, Josh Palmer was a guy that was valuable for
fantasy owners at different points.

They have Pete Ladd. Oh no, no, Ladd McConkey. That's
pretty good. Now, I'll bring you some Pete Ladd baseball cards.

The running back position, a couple of veterans that are
that are paranically perennially hurt is a bit of concern.
But you did add a couple more bodies, young opportunists,
perhaps for Jim Harbaugh, because if he gets the offense
he wants to run with Roman, then you're gonna have

an opportunity for balance and maybe some shots for Herbert downfield.
So they're also a little bit of a price shot. NFC,
I'm gonna make you happy.

I mean, maybe I don't know, maybe I'm to make
you really really upset, but I think I'm gonna make
you happy. The Bears are going to the playoffs. Your
Bears are going to the playoffs. I'm excited about. The
Bears are good with the less talent they had last year,
still winning seven games. And you overhauled a lot, but
you brought in a lot of guys, all right. You

brought in help for Dj Moore and Keenan Allen and
Roma Doons and DeAndre Swift. No matter what happens at
running back, you're covered. You have a really good tight
end in Cole Kmet And this is not gonna be
Cheryl Swoopster. I'm not gonna mention Caleb Williams. Caleb Williams
is the dude. He's the guy I told you era
of good feeling, a perennial big threat for the next decade.
We're gonna talk about him right away. He's gonna make

wow throws every week. Where it's gonna be. Boy, look
at him on the run, running to the left, stopping
off his back foot, throwing to the right, and there's
Dj Moore opened by himself. Because nobody thought he could
throw the ball back across his body, or here's somebody
in the back of the end zone doing a tiptoe
and Williams puts in a spot that I can't believe
he actually put it there. He's going to be that

good right away. And the defense also is good right there.
You know, they they talk about wanting to be a
top five defense. They're already really good. The one question
they have had injuries and the defensive backfield, and they
need more time to play together. And that's one thing
the BEARSA hey, listen, we do so they'll probably struggle
with that a little bit out of the gate, but
that defense is going to get better as the year
goes on, as the weather gets colder. The Bears are

going to the playoffs, man like it or not, Mike Harmon,
your Bears are going to the playoffs.

Oh, you bring in Taylor from Iowa. So you've got
a punter who is a weapon to steal from Bill

all of these adjustments in that division might not result

you're gonna get well passed nine ten wins. You're gonna
be up at like twelve wins.

were that bad. There was a trade because they made
a great trade in retroceit had a fantastic that trade
that may turn out to be the best NFL trade
of the last fifteen years when you think about it,
and william hasn't played Williams and you got stuck with Bright,
but you got DJ Moore, you got draft picks, you

got other players that that may be the best, sure
may end up playing well, but in the end, you
still got a hole that helped build this team. I'm real,
maybe the best trade in the NFL though maybe last
twenty maybe since since two thousand. Trying to think of
a bigger trade that affected I mean, you still have
to see the fallout of everything that happened in Seattle
with Russell Wilson. But I mean that's a that's a

what that trade like turns a team from Hey, we're
kind of figuring out to boom one more rough year
and now the good times are here.

Well, you know, mccaskey's trying to get everybody to tamp
down their expectation. Yeah, well yeah, well of course, but

out the Rockies three nothing, so New York still a

half game back of the Braves for that final wildcard
spot in the National League. As for the Al East,
that's also a tight race, as the Yankees led the
Orioles by half a game entering tonight's action, and Baltimore
Orioles got the win against the White Sox nine to nothing,
and the Yankees were ahead for much of that game,

trying to win to keep pay stay in that first
place spot. They were up four to three against the
Rangers in the bottom of the ninth inning, and while
Langford put the Orioles in first place and.

one holdout left. Of course, that's the Jets Son Reddick. Now,
I'll tell you two things. One because the Niners just
signed Trent Williams, so there's a bit more of an
impetus to get it done for next Monday night. But
seeing him signing autographs today, Rob talking about talking about
a Son Reddick today. The Jets move some money around.

Now, Yes, they did give money to Michael Carter, their nickelback,
who they wanted to get one of the best nickel
cornerbacks in the game. Look, the Jets defense is loaded.
This was something that was on the books for a
long time. They're moving money around by this time tomorrow. Ha,
Son Reddick is a Jet and he's going to play
a handful of plays next Monday night. It's I have
no doubt in my mind as to how effective he's
going to be. It's ridiculous, but this is what's gonna happen.

They'll give him some more money for this year, however,
it's going to be to get him into play, and
he will be a jet by this time tomorrow night.
He will be in, get three practices in, four practices
in before Monday night, and be ready to go again.

Make them sweat figure out where that happy him is.
Maybe you get some stuff that's not in the contract
per se by NFL and union, CBA agreements, et cetera.
But yeah, I would fully expect again another veteran recognizing
all right, I'll play it out to its end and
