Speaker 1 (00:31):
Hello, Welcome in side hour three The Jason Smith Show
with my bes friend Mike Harmon, where we'll get to
the Max Crosby traded in a second. But boy, I'll
tell you what. Sometimes Friday night sneak up on you
and they go here, We're gonna give you a plethora
of big time sports news and fun going into the weekend.
(00:52):
You know, coming in tonight, I'm like, well, okay, so
the biggest football story is gonna be Gino Smith is
getting cut. Nope, got one better than that. Okay, Well,
well the biggest basketball story is going nope, nope, got
one bigger than that. Oh well, the games tonight might
not Nope. We got big game results. Two of the
games from the NBA tonight. We haven't spent a lot
of time on just for a couple minutes, the Clippers
(01:14):
were absolutely boat racing san Antonio. Today we talked about
this game. In the first half, it was a twenty
point burial and it was Wow, look at the Clippers,
despite the fact they're trading their guys away. Kawhi Leonard
is single handedly keeping the Clippers in the playoff chase.
Here he had thirty tonight, Clippers were killing san Antonio.
(01:35):
San Antonio puts up a seventy point second half and
they come back to beat the Clippers one sixteen, one twelve.
And again, this is the scary part for the rest
of the NBA is that I still think the average
NBA fan Mike says, okay, well, yeah, san Antonio, what
did Wemby do? Because you know, once a week you
see a stat line from Wemby where it's forty two,
(01:57):
twenty seven, nineteen, twelve, nine and four, right, like, oh, Wemby,
but it's not this way. Wemby had a nice night tonight, right,
But Wenby is twenty seven and ten, all right. That
you see that how deep this team is. And they
go with with almost a ten man rotation that contribute
almost every single night right, Like Luke Corner tonight had
(02:19):
ten off the bench, right, So Keldon Johnson had ten
off the bench tonight, and and Daron Fox went for
nineteen to nine and it wasn't even a great night
from Steph Castle. Doesn't matter, right, This is a this
is a Spurs team that is so deep. It's not like, well,
you know they're gonna win because their superstar is gonna
lead the way every single night. Right. This isn't Jordan
(02:40):
in the nineties. This isn't Lebron James in the past
few years with the Cavaliers and with the Lakers. This
is a Spurs team that is really, really deep. And
the sooner people see that, the more they'll keep taking
them more seriously. As NBA title contenders.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
See six to eight players in double figures with regularity,
the bench getting heavy minutes. Here you're talking about twenty
plus from four different guys. And for the Clippers, it
was a fun run until it wasn't. You watch Kawhi
Leonard with another thirty point performance, Brook Lopez with twenty six.
You get some top heavy scoring out of them. But
(03:17):
for the Spurs in the second half was like they
were shot out of a Cannon. This is like we
used to watch the Warriors for all those years, Like
I kind of sleepwalked through the first Half's like, you
guys aret to play some basketball. Let's go play some basketball.
It also helps a lot of young legs. Their last
game they played against Detroit, right, so battle and a
team that they've dominated, no question, and kept Kate Cunningham
(03:40):
in check. But those are forty eight pretty heavy minutes
that you have to battle through, even if the final
margin of victory is pretty high. So to come back
with another big effort and close out this game, that
place just erupted. Watching it on the monitors here in
the studio just as they closed out the clips person
(04:00):
caught them. You could see the you know, the old
body language reading that we do uh for the Clippers,
like really, this is what's happening. And in the crowd,
just everybody on their feet until the final buzzer, just
watching just an amazing second half performance. They end up
shooting forty one percent from three point range for the night.
I think they had as many three point makes as
(04:22):
they did free throws because they didn't shoot many of them.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
Now I will see your seventy point second half by
the San Antonio Spurs, and I will raise you a
seventy seven point second half tonight by the Knicks. They
beat the Nuggets, and that's being kind one forty two
to one oh three on a night where Jalen Brunson
(04:46):
scores a grand total of nine points. It was a
thirteen point lead at halftime and Jalen Brunson had two. Now,
it was a rough night for the Nuggets because we
you know, we want to talk about the Nuggets. Maybe
they're at NBA Final contender and and look as much,
which is I like the Nuggets. The thing that you
have to worry about all the teams in the West
is that you're gonna have to get past and beat
the Spurs and the Thunder. And no one's doing both
(05:08):
of those things. All right. I could see a team
pulling one of those upsets, but you're not beating both
of those teams, and you're gonna have to do that. Tonight,
they get their starting lineup back finally for the first time.
They're feeling really good about things. Gordon is back, right,
he played for the first time in over a month.
Cam Johnson is back from a sprained ankle. All right,
everything is good. It's their first night with their original
(05:28):
starting lineup since November. And what happens Jamal Murray sprains
his ankle right before halftime wouldn't have mattered. Tonight. The
Knicks just absolutely blew the doors off of the Nuggets.
But now here's Denver, who was getting healthy, and now
we're feeling good about ourselves and the Knicks coming to
Denver and just absolutely blow them away. And this is
the other thing about the Knicks, you know, this is
(05:49):
why I'm so excited about this win, because if the
Knicks won this game and Brunston had scored thirty eight
and you know, nineteen assists and it was okay, well,
Jalen brunts is great, but they won this game going
away where your MVP kind of sat around and watched
the rest of his teammates led up the scoreboard. Now
he played great facilitator tonight, right, he had fifteen assists,
(06:11):
but this was an Unobi had thirty four and Heart
had eighteen, and everybody off the bench was good, and
Robinson at thirteen and Shaman had ten, like this was
a complete total. This is what the Knicks can do
when they're firing on all cylinders. This is why I
said last night, there's five teams that can win the
NBA title. The Knicks are one of them because if
they can figure things out where Jalen Brunson doesn't have
(06:34):
to do it every night, look out, man, this is
like the next level they can hit. There's teams that
can hit next levels the last twenty games, the Celtics
getting Jason Tatum back like they did tonight. If the
Knicks can wind up winning games where Jalen Brunson doesn't
do this next level, we're seeing Spurs Wemby doesn't have
to carry them their depth, their nine to ten man rotation. Like,
(06:55):
there are teams that can hit that next level the
next few weeks, and we saw tonight. Man. That's why
I'm so excited, because the Knicks can be one of
those teams, because then maybe they don't need Jalen Brunson
to be Superman every night.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
I mean the real MVPs are the Lakers, which softened
up the Nuggets and really taxed them to set up
this game with.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
X squad. Clearly yes, and then they came out and
had the game of their lives.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
Yeah yeah, yeah, And I know Lakers are winning tonight
they're beating Indiana, So okay.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
You me Frostburg, Steve and Alex teichert might have a
good chance, but being competitive with the the.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Nuggets did have a couple of guys come back tonight
that have been pretty well rested because they were coming
back from injury. So like they played last night, So
you know it's you know, forty point burials. A forty
point burial, man, No matter.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
How I'm like, sell, sell your knicks.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
Man, I'll tell you this is a big, big win tonight. Now,
Jason Tatum comes back tonight for the Celtics, right, the
other big story of the night. And and you know
when we said, we talked about this last night, here
comes Tatum coming back. I said, look, this is so
great for this year because all the drama for the
Celtics is gonna be in the offseason. Is Jason Tatum
(08:08):
gonna want to stick around when it's really not his
team anymore because it's now Jalen Brown's team. But for now,
it's gonna be awesome the lift he is gonna bring
them because he's still that good a player. And you
know how much I love Jason Tatum. Yeah, it's gonna
be great.
Speaker 5 (08:22):
Now.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
I don't get a lot of the talk today that
I heard about how, oh Jason Tatum could screw the
Celtics up. I feel like, wow, man, that's just a
hot take for hot take sake. Really, one of the
best players in the NBA coming back and you're gonna
say no, that's like, I wonder if it's the if
I could look back and go the same pundits and
experts who said that today were the ones that saying,
you know, the Fever without Caitlin Clark is probably a
(08:43):
better team. I don't know that I would bring her back.
If coming back from Andrey that you're talking about one
of the best players in the NBA coming back, he's
gonna be nothing but bring a lift to this team.
And well, tonight he looked a little rusty but still
had a big night right fifteen, twelve and five. But
the one thing I could tell and sometimes there is
that emotional component to a return where, yes, when a
(09:07):
guy comes back for the first time, you're so glad
to have him back. You hear the players talk about
it after saying, oh, man, so great to have him back.
And but this was a different level of return Tatum's
first couple of baskets. The garden exploded, the sideline exploded
for Jason Tatum. I mean, this is all and I'm like,
(09:28):
wait a minute. Tatum's a guy who, you know, for
the for the first few years of his career, he
was like a kind of arms length superstar, Like how
much did his teammates love him? How much did the
fans love him? All Right, they win the title, but
he's not the MVP. You know, there's still that little
bit of a Yeah, Jason Tatum, I'm not sure. But
when he came back tonight, he my goodness, man, it
(09:49):
was it was like if SGA was out for a
year and he comes back for the thunder and the
fans just take the roof off like That's what really
surprised me was the emotional lift that you you could
see was palpable in the arena for his comeback. And
I know it was the it was the the Mavericks,
and the Mavericks stink, but yeah, okay, you'd want to
come back against a team that stinks. But it was
(10:10):
just that visual and that optic and that intangible that
I saw from the Celtics tonight where I said yep,
I nothing that we talked about the last couple nights
is different. They are going to be a big problem
because his return now is even bigger emotionally than I
thought it would be. It's kind of like that scene
in Star Wars when when Obi Wan warns Darth Vader
and says, hey, if you strike me down, doth shall
(10:32):
become more powerful than you will ever imagine. Darth Vader's like, yeah, whatever,
old man, I've been wait since you chop my legs
off on Moostafar to get back at you. Ah now yeah,
now see guy, got'm all bionic everywhere. Yeah, you old man,
let's go. And then he chops obi wand wait a minute,
Oh wow, obi Wan is a force ghost. Now maybe
he is more powerful. I'm gonna be a force ghost
(10:53):
at some point too. Okay, great, Ah, maybe the old
man knew what he was talking about. That's kind of
like the lift and kind of what I saw to
the from the Celtics with Tatum coming back, Like this
emotion and this intangible now is immeasurable. You can look
at all the stuff on the court with Tatum and
I get it. But the other stuff that to me,
that's more valuable.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
Yeah, the back to zero shirts that they laid out
on all of the chairs as people came in the
expectation of what the rest.
Speaker 4 (11:21):
Of this run in.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
And you and I have a bit of a disagreement
in terms of a fracturing or any of that stuff,
and we'll wait and see how that plays out as
we get into the off season. But short term, I mean,
the thing for the league and certainly for the city
of Boston is you got a guy that worked his
ass off to get back onto the court for this year.
It would have been very easy to say, you know what,
I'll see you in twenty twenty six, twenty seven. Right,
(11:45):
We're seeing guys take their early exits on teams all
across the NBA. And for Jason Tatum, there's an injury
when he went down, like, all right, we'll see you
in a couple of years, and instead, here he is
to get back for the final twenty games of a
regular season, whatever minutes he's got to play.
Speaker 4 (12:05):
And yeah, it was an ease him in win over the.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
Dallas Mavericks, a twenty point burial over Cooper Flag and Company.
But all of that, for me is the excitement of
all right, this guy wants to be here when we're
talking about so many guys that would rather already be
into the second week of their Cancun vacations because they
know they're not playing for anything meaningful. It's a guy
who still has the fire in the belly, whether it's
(12:30):
the you know, as you say, in a battle for
the soul of Boston with Jalen Brown, or just to
say hey, I'm back and I'm still one of the
top players in this game. This is great for the
league right in to offset all of the negativity that's
been swirling and every fix that we've had for tanking
and the chaos it's wrought upon the league.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
I mean, really, it is the Celtics going without Jason Tatum, right.
You talked about if he wanted to sit out and
not play, because that could have been a thing. Right,
let's I'm gonna sit out. It says not my time,
it's it's Jalen Brown's team. I want to be healthy
for whatever my NBA future is. They would have petered
out of the playoffs. They weren't. They are. They are
not a first round blowout, second round win, third round
(13:17):
NBA Finals. They were not that kind of team. They
were not deep enough missing him to get all the
way to even the Eastern Conference Finals. Probably would have
lost in the second round. Now, Jason Tatum, that changes
everything again. Five teams go to the NBA Finals and
they are one of them. They are now officially a
problem for all the other teams in the NBA, all
the other top contenders. They're a problem. Exit out about
(13:40):
a Fresca exit swollen dome. Jason Smith Mike Carmon live
from the Fox Sports Radio Studios. Coming up next Game
one of the World Baseball Classic is in the books
the United States and wait till you hear the absolutely
eye popping stack coming up next, as well as accusations,

Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 6 (14:02):
No, those are not accuisations. Those are the truth.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Those are not what what word was that Frostburg acquisitions.

Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith's Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
That is not John Cena.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
We just watched not one, not two, Okay, seventeen walks
by Team Brazil tonight. Yep, the United States turns them
into fifteen runs they win their World Baseball Classic opener.
Aaron Judge is the hero. He also grounded into a
double play against a seventeen year old kid pitching in
high school. So you give it, you get for Team USA.
(15:26):
Joining us now on the hot line from Houston on
hand taking in the big fifteen to five win. MLB
Network insider extraordinary John Paul Morosi, who is going to
actually produce a documentary detailing all of the walks that
Team USA had tonight. John Paul, good luck, there.
Speaker 5 (15:50):
Were a lot of walks. There's no question about it.
And sometimes you get those moments in a World Baseball
Classic where a team with praps a little less pitching
depth than what the Americans have end up having to
go to some relievers that can't locate the baseball. And
yet in the same night, you also get Aaron Judge
(16:12):
homering in his very first World World Baseball Classic at bat.
You get Lucas Ramirez, son of Manny Ramirez, homering twice.
You get young Joseph Cantreras getting Bobby Witt Junior or
or rather getting judged to ground into a double play.
You get Thomas Lopez from Columbia University striking out Bobby
(16:35):
Witt Junior. So you just have all these amazing moments
within the larger continuum. And at the end of the day,
of course, tem Usa with a rather emphatic victory on
the final score line, eve though there were some nervy
moments in the middle. So the US wins, Mexico wins,
and all things remain pointed to a pretty big showdown
in this tournament between the US and Mexico on Monday
(16:58):
night here in Houston.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
You know that that's what I like about the World
Baseball Classic. John Paul because watching the announcers say things
like and here is Joseph Contrera, seventeen year old out
of high school. He's missing ap English, a big test
this week to be here. He's got the big spring
bakeoff fundraiser coming up. Boy, what a what a great
(17:20):
time for him. His team is going to be in
the district playoffs when he gets back to high school.
Here he is against Aaron Judge with the bases loaded,
like it just it's just insane when you hear the.
Speaker 5 (17:31):
Like that, I love it and I love it. And again,
there's plenty of time. There's plenty of time for conversations
about games during the season. When they call somebody up
from Triple A, or they call somebody up from Double A.
We're calling up guys from high school that is turned out.
And again, by the time you get to the end
(17:52):
and it's maybe the US and the Dominicans or the
US and Japan, these are matchups that we're familiar with
and that won't be as much of a surprise. But
until that happens, you have to sort of accept that
there will be the equivalent of the number one seed
against the number sixteen seed in the in the NCAA tournament,
and and again you get you get your one shining
(18:15):
moment at the end to borrow the basketball March Madness theme,
and you get the same thing here. So this is
this was the one versus the sixteen today and and
yet there were some moments that Brazil could feel very
proud of and and hopefully helps them grow the game
a bit in their country because they get a chance
to play Team USA on this stage for the first time.
(18:37):
Of course, the last time they played in the Classic
they were over in Japan, so it's it's a different
story for them, and and winning for them, even when
you lose on the scoreboard, winning looks like the moments
that we saw tonight.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
Yeah, obviously I'm concerned with the lack of operational efficiency
even though they covered the nine and a half run
differential here. Yeah, turn more more of these into runs
here JP. But in all seriousness, all the legacy players, Ramirez,
Bishett Junior, Contreras, all of this stuff like, that's the
other part of it.
Speaker 5 (19:08):
One.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
It reminds me I'm old, But talking about the next
generation coming up and being put on the big display
as well.
Speaker 4 (19:15):
One of the other great subplots to this tournament.
Speaker 5 (19:17):
Yes, and Bobby Witt Junior, by the way, on the
American side, we were actually talking about that on our
world feed broadcast, uh and and how the rosters were
all coming together in the familiar names. Actually, tonight I
got a chance to speak to Manny Ramirez. I went
up to the crowd and talk to Manny. Uh. He
actually told me that it was his dream as a
(19:37):
kid to be a left handed hitter. Of course he was,
and he batted right hand and one of the best
right handed swings ever. And so he deliberately taught his
son to bat left handed because he wanted to do
it and didn't have a chance to. And he actually
told he told me is that I had my son
watch a lot of video of David Ortiz, so.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
His own video, but big five, that's awesome.
Speaker 5 (20:03):
And then when I talked to Jose, I said, hey,
what were you thinking when your son was facing Aaron
Judge And he says to me in Spanish, he said,
my heart was racing and I was praying. Those are
the two things he said. My heart was racing and
I was praying. And obviously it all worked out. He
got the double play ball, and he said, certainly, yeah,
you know, he would have liked to have seen maybe
(20:24):
a couple of different pitches located. But my goodness, Jose
was so proud of his son. He sounded like both
a pitching coach and a dad in that moment. Was
just really really thrilled to be able to congratulate Jose
in person. And of course they were like sitting one
section apart, like Manny was sitting here and then Contrell
was sitting there, of course on opposite side of the
(20:45):
Yankee Red Sox rivalry at one point in time. Just
a really special, special day all the way around.
Speaker 1 (20:52):
Now, John Paul am I okay, because neither Justin nor
Mike liked that. I'm going to say this, but my
dad is the biggest in the world. Me being the
Met fan, I always want to take a chance to
tweak him. I think I'm completely within my rights to
say to him, Dad, your air judge can't even hit
high school pitching. And I'm telling the truth. I'm not trolling.
(21:13):
I'm telling the truth when I say.
Speaker 5 (21:14):
Something, well, hey, listen, it's it's a round bat and
a round ball, and you never know where it's gonna
go from here to there. He did at a home
run that just landing in my hotel room in the
first inning, So that was pretty good, I thought. In
the nearly homer the center field as well, So I
thought judges that baths overall were really good. Again, like,
(21:36):
what's the probably talking about that double play for a while,
it'll it'll be something that people mentioned. But in general,
I thought Aaron had excellent at bats and and and
again he's the captain of this team. He's he's the
one that Mark Torross is looking to to set the
tone and I think he's done a great job of
that so far. You could really tell how much the
players are enjoying being his teammate. And that includes Harper,
(22:00):
that includes Schooble. These guys all love being together. And
I do think that they've become a true team in
a very short amount of time and that bond certainly
it gets stronger when you win, and that to me
is the is the next big question. What can they
finish this off? Can they win one more game? And
they did last time around, and I think that will
(22:22):
be the true test of the success of this team
USA At the twenty twenty six classes.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
Pull back obviously the greatness and excitement of each nation,
the crowd as they're walking in and you're experiencing the
folks there, they're in Houston. What's the general atmosphere there
at JP out panning?
Speaker 5 (22:42):
I thought that, and honestly, the first crowd for the
Mexico Great Britain game was fantastic. Certainly very very pro Mexico,
which will be the case, I'm sure when Mexico plays
the US. I think that's going to be probably a
fifty five forty five matchup, maybe sixty to forty in
favor of Mexico. But I thought both crowds were excellent.
(23:04):
I think that the crowd was up in the upper
midter upper thirties for the US game, not quite a sellout,
but loud, really engaged. Houston's a great place to play
this and I've been in Houston a lot over my life.
The people here are amazing, and they do a very
good job of hosting big events, Final Four, Super Bowl, obviously,
a lot of World Series. It's almost surprising it's taken
(23:27):
this long for a World Baseball Plastics to come here
is of course, it's the sixth edition, but I think
that Miami is a phenomenal place to host it. The
ballpark here in Houston is I think it's the amenities
for the fans really good. I think it's a great
place to watch a game, really great atmosphere. So there
are a lot of wonder the ballparks that you could
(23:49):
host this event at. Certainly we've seen it in California before,
San Francisco, La San Diego, been in Arizona. I just
think this is one of the better atmospheres to play
it in, and I'm really glad Houston's got its opportunity
and it's it's gonna have that great blend. When you
get Mexico in the US at Saint Pool, You're gonna
really draw well for both teams. And I think those games,
(24:11):
especially when Mexico plays at night on Sunday against Brazil,
when they play against the US, when they play against
Italy and which should be a really important game, I
think both get three great crowds out of those Mexico
games that are all happening in the evening.
Speaker 1 (24:25):
John Paul Morose, the MLB Network insider from Houston, as
he took in the United States his fifteen to five
win over Brazil. Now looking at the one game, right,
would obviously have the one game to look at tonight.
The lineup looks incredible. The lineup looks locked in. They
didn't chase bad pitches. They took what was there for them.
If I said to you, hey, your biggest concern for
(24:46):
the United States is it the bullpen? Is it the
lack of depth starting pitching wise, especially if school's gonna
play one game and out, Like, what would you say
would be the biggest the biggest thing for the United
States going forward?
Speaker 5 (24:59):
It's a great question. I'll say this, there is nothing
roster related that worries me. I really, I don't. I
don't have a worry if if if there's any if
they don't win, it's not it will not be because
of there's that there's a flaw on this roster. This
the roster is about as well constructed as you could
(25:21):
possibly imagine. I like, there's some youth there. Terrang is
a little younger, Anthony is a little younger, and then
the rest the rest of the group. There's just there's
no way that anyone could argue with really any of
the selections in my opinions, and even pitching wise, It's
interesting the you know, walk up pitch so well. Web
I thought was really good. Of course, he gave up
(25:43):
the early homer, but that was it. Uh, It's like
no hits after that. So I think in general, you know,
maybe they're still a way for schoobl to to stay
around for one more start. I'd love to see it.
I know a lot of people around the game would
love to see it. Certainly he has started. He's starting
early in enough to be able to come back. So
I'm not gonna say starting pitching is a concern because
(26:04):
I thought Web was really good. They've got really good
piggyback situations. Now I like what I'm seeing, and so
I really have no I have no concern just outside
of the randomness of baseball and how the best team
doesn't always win. There's nothing to really be worried about
with this team. And I thought Miller tonight, you know,
maybe wasn't the most efficient inning to start, but he's
(26:26):
able to rescue it though. I think Team USA checked
a lot of boxes. It was a really successful first
night for them.
Speaker 3 (26:32):
Now, I used to watch Chinese TYPEI dominate the Little
League World Series on ABC's Wide World of Sports as
a kid. They got drubbed thirteen to show Heyo TODDI
with the Grand Slam. I are we going for the
crash course eventually to meet up with Japan in.
Speaker 5 (26:47):
The final, Not necessarily, because I think that Venezuela's got
a really good team. The Dominicans have a really good team.
Mexico is a scary team, I think for a lot
of people. So I actually I do agree with the
premise that the US probably has the best roster in
(27:08):
this tournament, the second best. I think. Again, Japan plays
in this tournament so well, they've got the best player
in the planet. Maybe not quite as dominant as starting
staff as they had last time, but still really good.
But I put the Dominicans right in the same class,
and I thought Venezuela had a really really impressive first
first game as well, So for me, I don't look
(27:32):
at it as inevitable at all. I think it's important
to point out that we've had five classics in the past,
and US versus Japan has been the final game exactly once,
and that was last time, So I don't see it
as being inevitable. I think it's possible, maybe even likely,
but not inevitable because of the quality of the Dominicans,
(27:53):
the Venezuelans, the Mexicans, a lot of teams that I
think we have not even heard the best from yet
that could potentially be spoilering. And you mentioned the struggles
of the Taiwanese team against Japan. I think the one
team that could emerge from from that pool, it's gonna
be a great matchup between Korea and Australia. More than
(28:13):
likely that will decide the second bid out of out
of the Tokyo pool. And I think those are two
really good teams that are that are I think that
have taken big steps since the last Classic.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
He's on Twitter at John Morosi, that is at John
Morosi from the World Baseball Classic in Houston. John Paul
enjoyed the weekend. We'll talk to you next week where
maybe the United States will be facing a fourteen or
fifteen year old pitcher at some point.
Speaker 5 (28:39):
I think it's this mark my words, my friends, this
will be the easiest game the Americans play all tournament.
It will only get harder from here.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
Take it easy, buddy, enjoy the weekend. We'll talk to
you next week.
Speaker 5 (28:52):
Every weekend, guys, all the best.
Speaker 1 (28:53):
Thank you, JB. There goes John Paul Rossi and look
and also Mike, you know you can't you can't. You
can't tamp down the advantage the United States have getting,
you know, getting all the pitches beforehand like they do
in Houston. You know, when the buzzer's going off, the
drums getting beaten like you. Oh okay, I know what
pitch is coming. It's just Brazil couldn't get it over
the place.
Speaker 3 (29:12):
Hey, home field advantage, man. That and the railroad coming through.
I mean, you got a lot going on.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
Railroad's coming, Railroad's coming.
Speaker 7 (29:22):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
Time now to find out what's trending in the wide
world of sports from Special Delivery Steve de Sager, who
walked No. One tonight so he could have pitched for
Team Brazil and done just fine, Steve, O, what do
you got?
Speaker 7 (29:32):
You know?
Speaker 8 (29:33):
While Brazil's pitchers walked seventeen against the US, Brazil's batters
had sixteen strikeouts and drew just one walk in Houston
fifteen to five Team USA. The final. By the way,
Chinese type A just played another game. We'll get to
that final in a moment. But US captain Aaron Judge,
a two run homer in the first did I'm sorry,
(29:54):
but he grounded into a double play with based sload
in the second against.
Speaker 6 (29:57):
A high schooler.
Speaker 8 (29:59):
That's just did somewhere in the story Years from Now.
Bryce Terrag had three hits, including a gift three run
double in the fifth inning. Logan Webb from the Giants
the winning pitcher.
Speaker 6 (30:10):
He was the.
Speaker 8 (30:11):

that that home run by Lucas Ramirez, who also homerd
for Brazil in the eighth. The American second game is
Saturday night in Houston against Great Britain, also on Fox TV,
and then Monday night it's USA Mexico on Fox Mexico.
Today one it's opener against Great Britain. It was tied
(30:32):
one to one in the eighth, eight to two Mexico.
The final Jonathan Ronda of the Rays a three run
homer in the eighth. Jazz Chisholm of the Yankees zero
for five is Britain's leadoff hitter. Attendance thirty thousand for
that game and then thirty one thousand for the US
game in Houston. Japan won its opener in Tokyo thirteen
nothing over Chinese type shohe Otani hit a grand slam
(30:55):
in a ten run second inning. He went three for four.
Taiwan is a team one for twenty two with five walks.
But Taiwan has just played again and shut out Chechia
fourteen to nothing in a game shortened to seven innings,
similar to the seven inning loss they had in Tokyo
early this morning.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
Are time they made them come back so early because
they got blown out. You have to play again right away.
Speaker 6 (31:20):
That's right.
Speaker 8 (31:20):
They didn't exactly put in a full nine inning effort,
and therefore Okay. Venezuela won six to two against the Netherlands,
which was held to four hits. Luisa Ria's two RBIs.
Cuba beat Panama three to one. It was three nothing
in the third Yuan Moncata two run homer. The rest
of his team went four for twenty seven. Puerto Rico
scored five runs in the fifth and won five nothing
(31:41):
against Columbia. The win to seth Lugo with four scoreless innings.
Edwin Diaz struck out three in the ninth, and the
Dominican Republic was tied with Nicaragua, whose manager is Dusty Baker.
The game was three to three in the sixth Dominicans
with that star studded lineup did win twelve three, three
RBIs each Vladimir Guerrero Junior and Julio Rodriguez. In the
(32:03):
NBA's late game in La, Lakers lead with under five
minutes to go one nineteen ninety eight against Indiana, forty
four points for Luka Doncic. This would be the eighth
straight loss of the Indiana Pacers. New York Final was
one forty two to one oh three at Denver despite
thirty eight from Nikola Jokic. Phoenix Edge New Orleans won
(32:24):
eighteen one sixteen Devin Booker thirty two points by the
Way Suns injured forward Dylan Brooks was arrested overnight for
duy At San Antonio, the Spurs trailed the Clippers by
twenty five in the third quarter and still came back
to win one sixteen, one twelve despite thirty points from
Kawhi Leonard of La Houston over Portland one oh six
(32:46):
ninety nine the Blazers Denny Avdia out again with a
bad back. Kevin Durant twenty points, eight turnovers for the Rockets.
Miami won at Charlotte, ending the Hornets six game winning
streak one twenty eight one twenty Tyler Hero three thirty
three points, he'd have won four straight, and Boston sent

assists for Boston to college basketball number nineteen. Miami Ohio

eighteenth ranks. Saint John survived at Seaton Hall seventy two
(33:29):

for the year after thumb surgery and h.
Speaker 1 (33:36):
Easy, Steve, You're gonna You're gonna Harmon's gonna have a
heart attack. If you'd say Caleb Williams is out for
the year, just man, you gotta get that name right, man.
You know, Harmon's gonna just He's just gonna fall right
off the chair.
Speaker 8 (33:46):
Is this thumb does not have a painted nail. If
the NHL shootout wins for Anaheim and Colorado, the Raiders
traded edge rusher Max Crosby to Baltimore for two first rounders.
The Raiders are cutting quarterback Gino Smith.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
Thank you, Steve. Coming up next, Yes, hey, we got more.
We got a big NFL Power Hour on the way.
We're gonna kick things off next with not one, but
two big quarterback stories from today. One I just want
to shake my head and just say, please make it
go away. That's next Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 6 (34:19):
And I'm sure Jason instill hate America.

I made sure to take out all Jason Smith's hatred
of Team USA just because the podcast, So make sure
you get it, just.
Speaker 1 (35:09):
Because I can revel an Aaron Judge grounding into a
double playoffs very anti captain America right now he is no,
not after you ground ass.
Speaker 4 (35:21):
But I mean it's the same kind of idea here.
Speaker 1 (35:24):
I could do this all day and I know.
Speaker 6 (35:26):
It is Jason hate Proof downloaded.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
No no, no, I I am I. I did not
root against America tonight. I want us to win. And
everybody says healthy and I am okay that Aaron Judge
grounded into a double play against the kid who you're
I am okay with that. That Oh, because my dad,
my dad, my dad's not going to come over to
the house for like months now. After after that, like
(35:49):
as soon as I sent him that text, Dad, Eric
Judge can't even hit high school pitching. I didn't even
get anything back. I did. I just saw Walt has
notification silenced. It's like, all right, Dad, I'll see you tomorrow. Well,
if he would have answered the phone, I would have
called him, but I was also I was also getting
(36:10):
ready for the show. Uh now, we'll have more on
that coming up next hour. But we'll got Mix Crosby
in the Big Trade coming up in ten minutes. But
quarterback news ahead of that, And I don't know which
is the more depressing, more us a bigger story. Geno
Smith is going to get waved by the Raiders. We
found it out earlier today. So the Raiders now waving
(36:32):
goodbye to Gino Smith and Max Crosby. And uh so
you think, okay, well, Geno Smith, the Jets are going
to be in on him. The Jets seem like they're
in on Tua. The Jets are in on Kyler Murray,
the Jets are in on Derek Carr like they're in
on everybody.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
Have you ever thrown a pass in the National Football.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
But when I saw this today, I said, okay. I
got upset for about five minutes, and then I said,
you know what, We're gonna stink anyway. Why this is
just full tank? This is full tank because Frank Reich,
new Jets offensive coordinator, according to reports, may prefer Carson
Wentz to be his quarterback because hey, he knows how
(37:14):
to execute his system. All right now, When I saw this,
I said, man, are you kidding me? Then I said,
but how are we gonna be? Whoever we sign, it
doesn't matter, We're gonna stink. I'm all in on the
tank for twenty twenty seven for Arch Manning or Dante Moore,
whoever it is. But I'm all in for that.
Speaker 7 (37:31):
Then.
Speaker 1 (37:31):
Remember back when Frank Reich was the head coach and
he started Sam Hellinger those few games going, He's got
that special sauce. I'm like, oh, no, they're tanking there
for a big draft pick. Okay, No, Frank w Reich
knows what's going on now. I'm like, okay, if we could,
if we signed Carson Wentz to be our starting quarterback,
you know, we are officially just tanking all the way
until next year. You know, we are just thinking twenty
(37:53):
twenty seven. And and you know, obviously Aaron Glenn is
gonna still be the coach because if he's okay with it,
you know that he's gotten the he's gotten the nod
that Yeah, no matter what you do this year, you'll
be here next year. Aaron, you got an A on
the NFL p A grades. Everybody loves you. I gotta
b I'm withde Johnson. I'm happy. But if we signed
Carson Wentz, you know we are absolutely tanking for next
(38:15):
season on.
Speaker 4 (38:16):
A former MVP contender.
Speaker 1 (38:18):
Yeah, dude, that was that was pre that was pre pandemic.
He was an MVP can that was.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
Pre pandemic by like three years. Yeah, it's a lifetime ago.
It's a decade again.
Speaker 6 (38:30):
And he's gonna be the best Jets quarterback since Nameth.
Speaker 3 (38:33):
Yeah, but what if he actually accidentally wins you a
couple of games.
Speaker 1 (38:38):
I'm not worried a I'm just putting that in the
Carson Wentz. I'm not worried about that. No, No, I.
Speaker 3 (38:42):
Mean, because look, if you're gonna be anti America, I'm
gonna root for the Jets' si he's.
Speaker 6 (38:47):
Gonna win them one more game, then they should win
to cost the March Manning.
Speaker 1 (38:52):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, it'll be it'll be a a wrestling
match with the Jets and the Dolphins because they're gonna
absolutely stink this year. And then it's gonna come down
to like Week seventeen, Wentz versus quinn Ewers, and we're
gonna win like fourteen to ten, and the Dolphins are
gonna pick first and get arch Manning and Dante more
will say, no, I'm not even going to the NFL.
(39:12):
I still don't want to go to the Jets. I
didn't want to go last year, I'm not going this year.
I'm pulling a rocket Ismael and I'm going to the CFL.
I am I'm done, and the Jets saying, well, we
tank for no reason because now we're not getting a
quarterback now either.
Speaker 4 (39:25):
Jet Show. Yeah, yeah, it's been setting up quite nicely.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
But this was a nice, delicious add on to the
Geno Smith paranoia that's out there all my life circle.
Speaker 1 (39:36):
I kind of think it would be better now instead
of these quarterbacks all going to different places, that the
Jets get all of them and it's a big it's
a it's Derek Carr and Tua and Carson Wentz and
and Kyler Murray all battling it out to be the
quarterback for the Jets.
Speaker 3 (39:53):
Really would just be an extension of that reality show
that we pitched on the show about a decade ago,
and we talked, we saw that out of on day
three you don't take anything but quarterbacks.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
Yeah no, but but now think about this, what if
you did this talk about reality show. The Jets signed
all four of those guys and everybody got four games. Everybody,
no matter what, everybody gets, no matter how you're doing. Hey,
what a great four game stretch for Kyler Murray thirteen touchdowns,
no picks up, that's up, Nope. Two has gonna play
now now I know we're four and oh we're going
into two. Is gonna do it?
Speaker 4 (40:25):
Next?
Speaker 1 (40:26):
Man up? Exit out by the Fresca exit Swolling Dome
coming up. Next, we get into the biggest move of
the offseason. Max Crosby is now a Raven
