You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Hello, Welcome inside to a wild hour three here on
Fox Sports Radio Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon. Moncia Belanio's my other best friend. I'm an
as man for Mike Harmon tonight We're both as man
where we are? We just watch an absolute thriller in
the Fiesta Bowl. Carson Beck runs for a four yard
(00:49):
touchdown with eighteen seconds left, a questionable non pass interference
call the final play of the game. The flag is
not thrown, Miami saying thank you for now, even for
two thousand and three in Ohio State, the Miami Hurricanes
head to the College Football National Championship, joining us now
in the hotline to break it all down. Nobody better
(01:11):
than the owner, editor, proprietor Grand Poobah of the best
college football website in the country, college Footballnews dot Com.
All the picks, all the prognostications, all the analysis you
want from longtime friend of the show Pete Feutag. Pete,
you okay after.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
That game, Yeah, I guess so.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
I mean, look by the way, watch it again. Watch
the Miami pass rushers get absolutely tackled like for yeah,
it was, it was passed it. I do agree that
it was kind of a non call, I mean because
they were both grabbing at each other. But I get
where you could have and should have called a PI
(01:51):
and it's it was. It was close enough or I'm
kind of glad they ate the flag at the end.
It was was close enough. But yeah, there was a
lot to that game. But you know what, thank you
Carson Beck, because without him and that drive, Mendoza or
Dante more would throw for four and nineteen yards in
(02:14):
the National Championship against this old we wouldn't get Georgia TCU.
But man, with that defense, just get eaten up by
whatever is coming out of that Peach Bowl tomorrow night.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
I'll tell you what, Pete, you brought up. Carson Beck.
We talked about a few minutes ago, counting everything that
goes along with being quarterback, which watching him tonight getting
Miami into the right formation on almost all the plays,
moving protections around. This was the best game I've ever
seen him play quarterback. Everything. He had control of everything,
even his touchdown run at the end. The scramble wasn't
(02:50):
something that was a panic run. This was going through
my progressions and nobody's opened the side of the field.
I mean, yes, he gain managed his way through most
of the season, but this is the best game I've
ever seen him.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
That was an NFL dude doing that. I mean that
was you know, we all forget that he was kind
of being thrown out there as a possible number one
overall pick a couple of years ago, and then it
wasn't great last year and kind of the shine was
off a little bit. But he's got it. He's got
all the tools. I mean, he's got the size, strength,
(03:23):
just enough mobility, and he's obviously you know, just you know,
be able to figure out defenses. And it was kind
of crazy to think about it because, like you're right,
I mean, thinking about that last drive with that offensive line,
First of all, what are you doing not running the
ball every play? Miami. I mean that ole miss defense.
I mean, we could have run for eight yards against that,
(03:43):
and they were just hammering away at it. But look
at the very end, they weren't going for the field goal.
I thought they were just going to keep running because
when they really wanted to run and power through, they
were powering away for ten yards of crack. I mean,
they were just blasting away. They had took time outs left,
but instead they let Beck throw and you had better
(04:04):
trust that quarterback because they had the field goal. You know,
the kicker's been a little shaky in the playoffs so far,
but they had the field goal right there, and yet
they still let Beck go after and keep firing it
in there and he's making some NFL reads and some
NFL throws.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
Now Miami is headed to the National Championships, so they're
happy and all. But what did you make of that
targeting call against Xavier Lucas that you know he ended
up being ejected because we kind of didn't like that
call over here.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Yeah, look, I'm all I get that. I get the targeting.
The letter of the targeting rule is really that you
are trying to hit the guy in the head with
your head or something some other way of excuse me
knocking that guy out. And if it's if you're supposed
to be able to pull off, you're supposed to avoid
(04:53):
those hits. You're supposed to get it. I am the
anti brain injury, you know, I'm before and that's more
going the other way and you know, making sure you
over call that. But that was a little bit rough.
So there are a couple of calls that you know,
kind of could have gone either way tonight. But for
the most part, there are a lot of penalties. And
this was this was Miami C plus game and they
(05:16):
got out, you know, and they got out alive. So
they still have the starting twenty two. Uh so I'm
not just assuming at tomorrow night's the National Championship. IAI
could absolutely win this thing.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
So, Pete, I need you to call people you know
in college football and make them change the rules so
the Jets can draft Malachi Tony at number two.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
He well, the problem is he's only fourteen years I know,
I know, I know, But that's okay.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
We have him for so much longer though, I'd be great.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
Yeah, I mean, this is a Pete.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
This is a guy that depending on what the quarterback
situation is coming to the draft in two years, Like
I can see him being the number one overall pick
in the draft, Like he is that special.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Yeah, Okay, Percy Harvin was Percy Harvin the number one
overall guy. I mean he's great, you don't get me wrong.
But yeah, look, it's it all starts with the lines.
I mean, that's Mario Christobal. That is the offensive front.
They've got some NFL dudes on that offensive front and
they were blasting away. And so, yes, Tony's absolutely special.
(06:17):
He was making some amazing plays. But yeah, give him
a couple of years and he's going to be up
there with everyone. But he is a absolutely electric playmaker
and they certainly rely on him the way too much.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
What about Carson Beck and Shudd Chambliss. Do you think
they have a path to the NFL?
Speaker 3 (06:35):
Oh charts to deck. Yes, I mean again, he was
He's not going to be a first rounder. This is
kind of a weird year for quarterbacks. And it's a
weird year where you do have teams like the Jets,
you know, like the Raiders, you know, depending on defeat,
the Browns really want to make that move. Definitely, the Steelers'.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
Every the Jets and the Raiders and get that high
beat every year.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Repeat yes, repeat, So you do have you do have to,
like you said, the usual stufspects looking for that. So
I don't think Beck goes bad, but like you know,
they NFL scouts fall for the latest thing. You know,
it's the whole industry is kind of who he's But
you know, they they see what they see and then
if they see a guy like Carson Beck in that moment,
(07:18):
you're thinking, wait a minute, like we just talked about,
that's a guy who was making NFL throws an NFL
reads in the most pressure pack situation he will ever
be in unless he goes and is fighting for a
super Bowl. And that is that was That was it.
That's what you want to see in your NFL quarterback.
Chamble is just too dangerous.
Speaker 5 (07:37):
I mean he is.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
He is a whole lot of fun and it'll be interesting.
He's trying to buck for like he's trying to be
on the Diego Pavia train here and you know, come
back for his you know, you know, you know what
are guys who staying in college for eight years, Well
they're called doctors.
Speaker 5 (07:51):
You know.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
It's so he's trying to come back. But yeah, he's
got He's certainly dynamic enough. The arm strength is just
good enough. But he is just one of those playmakers
who look, yo, there, but we're play in the end zone.
He almost pulled that thing out.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Pete Futech, College Footballnews dot Com insider with us Jason Smith,
Monsei Bolano's Fox Sports Radio. All right, let me ask
you a question that may not be able to be answered,
but your gut instinct, if Lane Kiffin is coaching this
team all the way through and he stays with them,
does ole miss pull this game out? Is there something
you saw tonight that that tells you that, boy, hey,
(08:30):
they kind of missed lane Kiffin here.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
Yeah, they didn't do anything. I mean, Goldie did just fight.
I mean, look, they shouldn't have been here. I mean,
as I kind of said all season long, the SEC
was just sort of eh. And I know they took
Miami down to the wire but still the ACC team.
But look, they should They got by Georgia that was
a good that was a good win for them, and
(08:53):
they hung around with Miami. I think they would have
gotten destroyed if they won't. They pulled this thing out.
But I don't think Kiffin did as much as he
could have done with this. I don't think Golding did
anything wrong by a chance vice stretch. So I know,
I don't think Kiffen pulls this thing out because this
is a flawed team. They were great, the offense was outstanding,
(09:16):
the defense did its job for the most part. But
the problem was that when you're going for field goal
temps like my ole miss did, you'll leave yourself open,
and they just couldn't quite punch it in when they
needed to.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
The other semi final game tomorrow Friday seven thirty Eastern
Oregon and Indiana, how are the Ducks going to handle
not having Jordan Davison.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
That'll be fine, you know again, they've got so much talent,
They've got so much speed across the board. Dante Moore
is still out there. They still have you know, I
still think he's probably the number one pick over Mendoza.
If not, he's number two. But looking through this playoffs
so far, the first two games, I know, James Madison
is Teams Madison and everyone kind of you know, looked
(10:00):
at the Texas Tech game. We're like, oh see, look,
Texas Tech wasn't real real. They weren't ready for frant times.
Yeah they were. Oregon was just better and I think
we're going to see that. I think the world is
kind of over loving Indiana because they beat Indiana. They
beat Alabama. That Alabama team wasn't very good. Again, SEC
wasn't very good. So, uh, Indiana certainly could win this.
(10:22):
They've they've certainly got the talent they've they've done it before. Look,
they're undefeated, they got here, They're the only understated team left.
They've been absolutely unflappable so far. I just sort of
think that until the Mark Cuban money really starts to
kick in. Uh, Oregon just has more talent, They've had
more guys, and I think Oregon pulls this off.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
So just like we expected Oregon and Miami for the
National Championship, I just go crazy.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
Though again, Oregon was Oregon was supposed to be good
and close. Miami was supposed to win the ACC. You know,
I was not the believer in Clemson from the start.
I said, who long, this is going to be Miami ACC.
But yeah, it's a little bit bizarre, it's a little
bit off. I mean it's not Ohio State, not Georgia,
but you know the crazy part about it is, now
(11:09):
this is a third straight year we're not getting an
SEC team in the National Championship. We went over a
nineteen year span. The Ohio State College Football Playoff win
over Oregon to start this whole thing off was the
only time in the last nineteen years we did not
have an SEC team in it until the Michigan TCU
and then last year obviously with Ohio State beating Notre Dame,
(11:33):
and now we're gonna have a third straight year without
the SEC. So anytime you don't have an Alabama, an LSU,
you know, Georgia or Clemson or an Ohio State, it
seems a little bit off.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
So let me get this straight. Betweet this out. Pete Fewtech,
says fire Greg Sankey, hang on, let me just get that.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
Well, you can't be the conference. Oh, it just means more.
And then when you get you know, an atomic wedgie
pulled on you in the bold season, be like, oh, well,
we didn't really try that hard, and we had opt
outs and we had all this well, which is it?
You know, everyone had opt outs, Everyone had guys who
are transferring and coaches leaving, and you know what these
(12:11):
things they're cyclical. SEC probably goes like nine to zero
in the Bulls next year. I mean, you know how
this works. But look, it's it's kind of a bad
look for the conference where all right, this is this
is what's be your thing, and Big Ten all of
a sudden got more money and more talent, more national
championships coming. They're gonna about to make it three straight.
So uh yeah, it's kind of a kind of a
(12:34):
rough look in the SEC offices right now.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
He's on ex at Pete feu Tech. That is at
petefeu Tech College Footballnews dot com, your website one stop
shopping for everything college football. Pete, we had a double
shot with you. We'll talk to you tomorrow night after
uh the Jets Raiders ball with Dante More and Fernando Mendoza.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
Oh yeah, it's gonna be like Janis versus Marcus Mariota.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
Yes, right, Judge and Buddy have a good one better.
All right, there goes Pete feu Tech. Look, you know,
it's it's interesting to bring up that. You know, you
always look at these games and there and and theyre's
such a big deal for NFL talent evaluators because they
do look and say, who can perform under the brightest lights,
and sometimes an entire season of you are okay is
(13:19):
undone or is is a race? Because look at where
you did with it where the lights were brightest. And
now Carson Beck didn't play his way into the first round.
It's not a great year for quarterbacks. But did he
maybe play his way into the third round or potentially
up there where all right, hey, we can this is
someone who maybe can come in Like case you look
at a guy like Quinn you weres last year the
kind of similar and he went in the sixth round
(13:41):
and you would think, okay, you was probably would gonna go,
but hey, Texas kind of petered out in the in
the in the playoff, and here's Carson Beck, who plays
his best game with the lights the brightest. Yeah, I
can see Carson Beck suddenly being a third round guy
that maybe a year a team that needs a quarterback
has a bridge quarterback and he plays the final five
or six games of the season, kind of like what
(14:02):
the Saints did this year with Tyler Shuck, Like they
drafted him, but you weren't quite sure if they were
gonna give him a chance to be the quarterback. Like
if they were gonna tank and take arch Manning next year,
because you know, the whole Saints were Archie Manning, arts Man.
We're gonna get arch Manning. But you know, Spencer Rattler's terrible.
And then Tyler Shuck comes in. Who's gonna get a
ton of votes for Rookie of the Year because the
guy was really good. I mean he's thirty eight years old,
(14:23):
so you think, yeah, but you know, that's kind of
a situation. I think Carson Beck has played his way
into where he can come in and if you have
the bridge quarterback because it's not a great year, you're
not drafting your quarterback of the future. Hey, we see
how things go. Carson Beck picks things up. We give
him a shot midway through the season to see and
he has half the season to show us that he
can do it. Look, Shador Sanders did it this year.
(14:44):
Dylan Gabriel is given a chance to do it this year.
So that's kind of where Carson Beck has played his
way into.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
If anyone was watching this game and wondering if they
could trust Carson Beck at the position, I think this
game showed you can trust him at the quarterback position
and here's what's.
Speaker 6 (14:58):
Crazy, Jason.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
You love all those tattoos.
Speaker 6 (15:00):
I love all his tattoos.
Speaker 7 (15:01):
Okay, what if he goes off in the National championship
game like he's setting up his perfect draft queen playing
in the final two games like this, like he's literally
setting himself up for success.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
He's putting himself in a Jets jerseys.
Speaker 6 (15:17):
How do you feel about that?
Speaker 1 (15:19):
It doesn't matter. No matter whatever the Jets do, it
will be wrong. It will be wrong if they draft him.
It would be wrong if they don't draft him.
Speaker 6 (15:25):
It's gonna be wrong.
Speaker 4 (15:26):
He's gonna go else, and it's gonna go really well
for him.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
I'm telling you the Jets, here's what the Jets to do.
This is how the Jets figure out because whatever they
do is wrong. Instead of saying, hey, here's our pick. No, no,
we're gonna let America or Jets fans pick pick and
you send in, you know, you do some kind of thing,
likely take a number two online. That's so you take
it that way. Hey, we didn't make the choice you did,
and maybe that'll work.
Speaker 6 (15:47):
Listen, I don't think that's a bad idea.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
Athing else has worked for Why not?
Speaker 6 (15:52):
I feel like you can listen to your fans.
Speaker 4 (15:53):
Your fans have been paying so much attention, they probably
could give you a little hope.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
What do you think about that? Pick? That's wrong? What
about that that's wrong? That's wrong, that's wrong.
Speaker 6 (16:01):
No, they should absolutely do that.
Speaker 4 (16:03):
Fans tell us who to pick at number two one,
the one who gets the most votes.
Speaker 6 (16:06):
That's where we're gonna go.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
I think that's actually how the Clippers did it.
Speaker 6 (16:09):
Back, I hate you so much.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
Sorry, that's okay, but they won last night. They beat
the Nicks last night. It's what does that mean?
Speaker 6 (16:17):
Worry about it?
Speaker 1 (16:18):
Oh, don't worry about it? Okay? You sure that's what
it means on Spanish English translator. Right now, I'm making sure.
Monty just said something in Spanish and want you to
tell me what I got dumb. I know you said
good no, she said no, good no.
Speaker 6 (16:40):
No.
Speaker 4 (16:41):
McKay is being yeah, like it's like I don't like you.
It's not there's no direct translation.
Speaker 6 (16:46):
Sometimes.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
This is why I struggled in Spanish when they thought
it was going to be a translator. I'm like, wait,
you're not teaching me.
Speaker 6 (16:51):
It's not exactly.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
You can't teach me conversation. You can't teach me Spanish
by the book, and then asked me to go out
in the world and do conversational Spanish. You got to
teach me how to Oh, well, that's how people talk.
Why are you teaging it that way? This big deal.
But I've let it go. Obviously.
Speaker 4 (17:05):
I see like Kaye is like to fall, and it's like, no,
that's not that's it's a different word, like even when
I go to Google Translate.
Speaker 6 (17:11):
No, this is the word. Mcauysbian.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
I don't like you, Okay, Jason Smith, Monty Bolano's in
for harmon Tonight Fox Sports Radio, Miami beats Ole Miss
thirty one twenty seven. We'll have postgame reaction coming up next,
more on Miami's big win and something huge said in
advance of the other national semi final tomorrow night between
(17:35):
Indiana and Oregon. Keep it right here, that's next. This
is Fox Sports Radio, Pardna Jason Elma, I don't like you.
Speaker 6 (17:45):
What says I don't like you on the internet. No, mccuisbian,
I don't like you.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
Wow, Okay, as long as that says long as that's
the truth. Did you hear mind Mancy?
Speaker 6 (17:53):
What is it?
Speaker 1 (17:54):
Pardna? Jason el no sabe Cooma managers. Pardon me, Jason,
the best looking guy in myself.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
Forgive Jason. He doesn't know how to handle himself.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
Handle him maneyhat to see that's what you were trying
to say. I was like, Manahatta say, okay, there's.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
Just not a good Spanish coordination. Mayamo, Jason, Mayomo break.

Shirt looked at chat GBT. We are okay, We're okay.
Manti did not yet.
Speaker 6 (19:14):
No, I'm good.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
I'm good, very good. Just want to make sure you know,
of course, okay, just but you know, I mean, because
you know, you could and I wouldn't know.
Speaker 6 (19:20):
It's true, it's true, but I wouldn't do that to you.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
Okay, No, I know, I don't want you.
Speaker 6 (19:24):
To know if I'm insulting you.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
No, I don't know. If no, I don't know, I
don't I don't know if if that's a okay, you
know what. Instead, let's just let's just.
Speaker 6 (19:34):
Move on, move on, move one.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
Yeah, uh you know, because you know, funny thing is
I coached you know, I coached soccer for a long time.
You soccer all these different.
Speaker 6 (19:42):
Levels, and so you were yelled in Spanish when I
was coaching.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
Well, well, here's the thing is that is that a
lot of the girls I coached, a lot of girls
were Latina, and you know, they knew Spanish and and I,
you know, knew a little bit of it, but didn't matter.
I mean that I could all talk to him. Everything
else But the thing was is that the parents when
they would yell something to their kid from the sideline,
(20:05):
they would yell at them in Spanish. And one time
and I turned out and it's turned this is how
this turned out. I turned out to be closest with
this family and their daughter who I coached her when
she was on the All Stars, like when she was
thirteen fourteen. She still texts us now and again, coach,
how are you. I'm here, I'm doing this like I
love her to death, and like the dad is yelling
(20:27):
at her and I'm going I'm pretty sure he just
yelled instructions to her from the sideline something to do
that I don't want her to do so, and I'm
sure he didn't think, oh, this guy probably doesn't know Spanish.
So I went over and I said, I was hope
I was getting it right. Walked over, I said, and
I said, hey, I said, don't tell her to move
the ball up the field at that point. I want
her to be able to do this or something. And
(20:48):
he looked at me like, oh, I just got caught.
I just got found out. He goes, okay, coach, okay, coach, okay,
like all right, but then from then on it was great.
I mean, his kid was phenomenal. I love coaching or
she's one of my favorite kids I coach time and uh,
but it was great after that, But that that would
happen where hey, I think, oh, you're yelling at in
a foreign language, so you you're really coaching your kid
when I'm do you want them to do something that
(21:10):
I don't want them to do because you want them
to do it? Okay, Okay, what a.
Speaker 6 (21:13):
Great moment for you.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
Yeah, it was good. It was just luckily that I
picked out Pelota and I picked out a field and
and I'm like, oh, he wanted her like normally it
was something where she was gonna like he was telling
her to uh for a through ball, and I didn't
want the throw ball at that point because the defender
they had a sweeper coming over and we weren't going
to get it and I'd rather have her move and
(21:34):
try to get into the middle of the field. And
so he was he was, he was al, I'm going, okay, no,
I know you want to throw ball there, but you
see the sweeper is gonna come up like they're they're playing.
We need to push and she needs to be up
the field more on that last defender's shoulder, and he
was like, oh, okay, okay, there's a reason I'm coaching
all Stars, you know, just so you know, there's.
Speaker 6 (21:52):
A reason why I've got caught by the teacher.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
Reason why I'm called Yeah. Then it was like, oh,
then I'm like, yeah, don't you yell at your kidding
Spanish on in English? Yeah, unless it's words I don't know,
in which case then you'll get away with it, okay.
Because sometimes I would say to the girls, Hey, what
did your dad yell at you? And they would go,
I don't know. Good answer, what he does yell at you?
(22:15):
I don't know. He was five feet away and he
was standing talking. Yeah, I don't. I don't know. I
don't know. I don't know any I would. But the
big question now here Miami beats Ole Miss thirty one
twenty seven and an absolute thriller. We have a crazy
quote from Carson Beck coming up in a few minutes.
You're gonna hear just let you know. We have to
bleep it out in Spanish. No, but the big question is,
(22:43):
right now, Ole Miss loses thirty one twenty seven, what
does your gut tell you what emotions are going through
Lane Kiffin right now?
Speaker 6 (22:52):
Pure joy, pure joy, pure joy.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
No, no, ham a little upset. I feel bad for
the players at all. No, you're pure joy.
Speaker 4 (23:00):
Pure joy because the rebels were in it. So he
can go out and say, you guys did such a
good job. You put up a good fight, you were there,
you were so close. You just ran out of time.
As Michael Jordan used to say, I didn't lose, I
just ran out of time. You ran out of time.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
The Jets went out of time too, if the game,
if they would maybe maybe.
Speaker 4 (23:23):
Uh So I feel like this is like best case
scenario for him because he can say how good they were.
Speaker 6 (23:29):
And then at the same time, but you'll get them
next time.
Speaker 4 (23:32):
Good for you, good for you, exactly exactly.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
See. I look at it this way again, coming at
it from a coach's perspective, and and and you know,
every great athlete, every great coach is selfish, has an ego.
They all do. They all know, they all think in
my idea. This is why they're head coaches.
Speaker 3 (23:53):
Right.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
My ideas go through. My ideas are exactly what's going
to win players the same way. I need to take
the shot at the end of the game. Why Because
I'm the best player on the team, right I need
to be control of the ball. I need this, I
need this. There's always a bit of selfishness in all
great players. So I understand Lane Kiffin because this is
this is more what I think it is for him.
I don't think he's a completely evil guy where it's
(24:15):
all he's you have him like he's Rupert from ted Lasso.
You know, he's he's the Emperor walking around going Eh,
I'm gonna, I'm gonna punch my guy on the sideline
and you're gonna. You know, he's wearing shorts without underwear.
Uh you know, Oh, look at that. You don't want
to see that on the sideline. Uh, Like you have
the evil Lane Kiffin is. As much as he gets
(24:36):
the the he gets the tag of boy. He can't
say any place for more than a long time. He
took the quick, easy fix here. I've gone as far
as I could at all miss this is where I
think he's at quite honestly. Uh, during the game, you
are really conflicted because you did coach with these guys.
These were your coaches, this was your staff. Basically they
(24:57):
all stayed to coach Ole Miss, and he was okay
with it, which is which is a cool thing. And
some of them left and came back to coach because
it was a big deal and I'm glad that you
recruited these players. They've been with you for a long time. Yes,
they may hate you now, they may hate you. However,
they're in the semi finals of the college football Playoff,
which you're at all Miss. You're not going there thinking
we're going to the semifinal of the playoff. So there
(25:18):
is that bit of for lang Kiffin, I'm sure is
you know, Hey, look, I love these kids, I love
these guys coaching. I'm happy for them. At the same time,
you're sitting there saying, boy, if they win, that's really
tough for me to swallow. I got to find a
way to get right with it because they found a
way to win without me, And if I was there,
would we have been able to win or would we
(25:40):
have lost earlier? And something else might have happened, right,
like did they galvanize themselves because I left and they
won a couple more games they would have had I
stayed there, Right, So it's a really tough thing to
reconcile yourself with where here's my team I left, and
they're even getting to bigger heights than they were with me.
(26:01):
I mean, that's a human things. It's not a bad thing.
It's a human thing. And I would think that's more
Lane Kiffin because I can see that, right. I mean,
I go back to fantasy, where if if I need
a big game from a quarterback and he's playing against
the Jets, like I want the Jets to win, and
I want them to win, and I want the quarterback
to throw four picks and everything else. I want to win.
I want to win. But when you know Tom Brady
(26:24):
or Josh Allen whatever it is, you know, goes for
three fifty and four touchdowns and the Jets lose. Okay,
the Jets are gonna lose anyway. And I also feel like, well, okay,
I'm okay with that, like that result, even though it
didn't work out for the Jets, which has been my
I've bled for them for you know, forty five years
whatever it's been. Well, Kin, I kind of wanted to
(26:44):
win in fantasy. So Josh Allen was gonna do that anyway,
or Brady was gonna do that anyway. So yeah, I'm
alright with that. I'm okay with it.
Speaker 4 (26:50):
I'm a right yeah, But I feel like I hear
what you're saying, and I think he may feel that right,
but he feels that ten percent of it, And if
ole Miss would have won, he would not have felt
that at all, Like no sweet feelings for his I
feel like he is so into himself, more than a
selfish athlete. I get what you're saying, like, don't play
(27:13):
volleyball with me. I'm such I'm a tough person to
play with because I want to win.
Speaker 6 (27:17):
I don't care. I don't care if this is just
for funsies. I'm here to win. Takes oh, I'm pissed.
I'm pissed. I'm here to win. I'm not here to
just you know, screw around. I'm here to win. Went
to a game, ask her, I get really into it. Okay, okay, So.
Speaker 1 (27:32):
How much cursing do you do during a game? A lot?
A lot?
Speaker 6 (27:35):
And I tried to not curse at the opposing in English.
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (27:40):
And if you miss a serve, oh, I don't even
I'm just gonna stare at you.
Speaker 6 (27:42):
Then what are you doing here?
Speaker 4 (27:44):
Serve?
Speaker 6 (27:46):
So I get what you are saying.
Speaker 4 (27:48):
But I feel like at the same time, I'm fighting
for my team to win, Like I'm not looking for
my personal glory.
Speaker 6 (27:55):
I want my team to win.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
Right with Lane Kiffin, he's looking for himself. It's like
person little glory that he wants. We just saw him
go to an LSU Bowl game, make a TV hit
and then leave.
Speaker 6 (28:07):
Jason, what are you talking about? This guy sucks, okay,
and so he needed All.
Speaker 4 (28:14):
Miss to lose because he would not have been able
to swallow that bill that they went that far without him.
The fact that they even beat Georgia without him, I
think that was huge because I don't know if they
would have won with him on the sideline.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
Well, no, I agree with you. I think overall he
is happy. But still, you know, you bleed a little bit.
But maybe maybe it's like sixty forty Yeah, well sixty
percent happy, forty percent you're disappointed, but you're more than
like eighty twenty. I don't think you can coach these
kids and and just completely move on.
Speaker 6 (28:43):
He did though he did.
Speaker 1 (28:45):
Yeah, but I mean, but any any coach knows that.
You know, Look, you have to be real with the kids.
You know that that's how you're gonna get by, and
that's how it's gonna happen. Look at is a business.
But no, I think right now he is. If you
said odactic, where is his stack he is.
Speaker 8 (28:58):
No.
Speaker 1 (28:58):
I don't think he's extatic. I think he's relieved. And
I think there's a difference between being ecstatic and relie
the out and out rooted, because it's got to be
a because you look like a bad guy if you're
out and out rooting against the team you coached, right,
I can't do that. He's not going to be hanging
out with Michael Irvin taking selfies together.
Speaker 6 (29:17):
He just face tied him and they took a shot together.
It's to celebrate it. That's what just happened.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
No, I think it's more. It's it's more relief of Okay,
they played really well and they didn't They got far,
but they didn't win, and that's as good of an
outcome for me as can be. And that's gonna piss
people off because while Lane Kiffin winds up winning because
well he left, they got to the Semis, they didn't
get far enough. Now he's got all that money at
LSU and now we have to figure things out and
Chambers is trying to, you know, subpoena, or is trying
(29:49):
to appeal for his subpoena. He's trying to appeal for
his six year in college football. But no, I think
it's it's a relief because it's I don't have to
worry about how I'm going to feel with them winning
the New Actional Championship because I don't know, like that's
an every day for the rest of my life thing
that I think about making this move the right move,
and it hangs over every single day, And I think
(30:10):
that that's why. I think it's more, Hey, it's a relief.
I don't have to worry about this anymore. They played great,
they acquitted themselves. No one thought we'd get this far.
I still have a big hand in that. Yes, they
all hate me, I understand that part of it, but
it's more relief that we win th out and now
it's celebrating.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
Yeah, the relief is that they didn't win because he
couldn't have them win. Jason, Yeah, he could not, Like
you just said, it would have been something he would
have lived with forever. And then he gets to LSU,
which is expecting immediate success They're not gonna give him
a long leash though. You wouldn't come in here and
you better make us win. We're at it to the
playoff next year. LSU, you know, has already planning for
playoffs next year and we haven't even started the next season. Relief,
(30:49):
but relief out of like out of just pure selfishness.
Not relief of like, all right, like it's over now
I can go to LSU and kind of start this
new chapter. No, it's relief of I am not embarrassing
embarrassing myself leaving a championship caliber team for another team
(31:09):
after I said they couldn't get there.
Speaker 6 (31:11):
That's the problem is that he said that he didn't
think he could get there with the Rebels.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
So you would never leave your volleyball team if you
thought they weren't gonna win. But another volleyball teams and hey,
come play with us, will buy you dinner after the game.
We think we are a moncey setting away from winning
the championship here at the YMCS.
Speaker 6 (31:31):
So here's the thing I feel.
Speaker 4 (31:32):
I feel like I'm not gonna leave my I've been
playing this team for thirteen years.
Speaker 6 (31:37):
I'm not gonna leave.
Speaker 4 (31:38):
You want a lot of titles, a few, not as many,
not as many as we should have, but we have one.
Speaker 6 (31:44):
We have one.
Speaker 4 (31:45):
Throughout the years, this team, I've played with my brothers,
I've played with my sorority sisters.
Speaker 6 (31:50):
Like it is, like, you know what I'm.
Speaker 4 (31:52):
Saying, I would not leave this team and I've been
playing it in it for thirteen years. I feel like
somebody who's actually making money in a different scenari then,
are you gonna offer me money?
Speaker 6 (32:02):
I guess I would.
Speaker 4 (32:02):
I would entertain it, but I feel like with with
Lane Kiffin's history, he has no loyalty to anybody.
Speaker 6 (32:10):
That's what I don't know, Like, I don't this guy
just is not Like I don't want to have a
drink with this guy. You know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (32:15):
Was that on the table? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (32:16):
Oh many people?
Speaker 4 (32:18):
You know?
Speaker 6 (32:18):
Okay, I rather have a drink with so many other people. Okay, sure,
even I don't want to have a drink with you. Okay,
Kurt Signatti, let's have a cocktail.
Speaker 4 (32:26):
Let's have a cocktail and discuss things, please, you know
what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (32:32):
Jason Smith, Monty Vols, Fox Sports Radio, Monty's got more
drinks or no drinks what's trending right now in the
wide world of sports.
Speaker 4 (32:39):
I mean, the Miami Hurricanes are headed to the national
championship Jason, after defeating the Ole Miss Rebels thirty one
to twenty seven. What's crazy is that they're gonna play
for the national title on their home field.
Speaker 6 (32:50):
It's like meant to be hard Rock Stadium. It's gonna
be nuts. I want to go. I'm gonna be like
this all game. You up, yea, you time.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
Michael Irvin will have you on his shoulders and you
will be Yeah.
Speaker 6 (33:04):
We could absolutely do that. Carson Beck delivering for the Canes.
Speaker 4 (33:09):
Not only did he throw for two touchdowns, he threw
two hundred and sixty eight yards, he had an interception
that was a deflected pass, but he also gave the
Canes the lead with the rushing touchdown that left about
eighteen seconds on the clock and it was almost enough time,
which is even crazier that Trinidad Chambliss needed two throws
to get the Rebels into the what thirty five yard
(33:29):
line of Miami to give them a chance, but it
was not enough time. Chambliss threw for two hundred and
seventy seven yards and a touchdown. But again Miami is
headed to the national championship. Also, that was Carson Beck's
first rushing touchdowns since Week three of college football, so
it's been a minute. When it comes to the NBA,
(33:50):
the Bulls and Heat game was postponed. It was supposed
to happen in Chicago, but there was condensation on the
court from a hockey game the night before. The weather
the whole thing. A makeup date was not immediately ann
so we don't know yet. The Jazz outscored the Mavericks
one sixteen to one fourteen. Cooper Flagg had twenty six points,
ten rebounds on eight assists in the loss. Julius Randall
had twenty eight points, eleven rebounds and eight assists in
(34:11):
the Timberwolves win over The Cavaliers won thirty one to
one twenty two, and the Pacers top the Hornets one
fourteen to one twelve, snapping their thirteen game losing streak.
Pascal Siakam led the way with thirty points and fourteen rebounds.
In the NHL, the final two games just literally wrapped
up Wild and Kraken went to overtime. Wild just won
at three to two. The Golden Knights outscored the Blue
(34:31):
Jackets five to three, and the Avalanche crushed the Senators
eight to two. When it comes to base ball, I
don't know you saw this, Jason. The Tigers were not
able to come to a salary agreement with two times
al saanng Award winner Trek Scuble. So now they're going
to an arbitration hearing. Trek Scoubole filed for thirty two million,
Detroit filed for nineteen million. This is the biggest gap
(34:55):
in arbitration MLB history. The thirteen million.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
Future met to read Schooble's future met No get ready, No,
get ready?
Speaker 6 (35:06):
You gonna be a Dodger?
Speaker 1 (35:07):
No, no, come on, come on, come on, come on.
Thanks a bunch bonsee coming up next way. Do you
hear what Carson Beck had to say? Directly follow it?
Speaker 8 (35:19):
You?
Speaker 2 (35:20):
You're cool?
Speaker 4 (35:23):
You, I'm out.

So Miami beats ol Miss thirty one twenty seven, and
there's there's a lot of things to get to with this.
We're gonna preview tomorrow night's game coming up a little bit.
But Carson Beck here of the night for the Miami Hurricanes,
a big three yard touchdown run. Again, we talked about
(36:09):
it this hour. Best game ever seen him play quarterback.
He was absolutely phenomenal tonight. This is Carson Beck post
game on the field following Miami's victory. So the game's over,
Let's go down to Holly row on the field with
Carson Beck. And here's Carson Beck's reaction to putting the
Hurricanes in the National championship game.
Speaker 6 (36:30):
That's all it'll We got three.
Speaker 1 (36:31):
Minutes for the rest of our life. Bro matters.
Speaker 5 (36:33):
Sorry, I mean NICUs about since a Rowland, but nothing
else matters. We got three minutes to go through this, man,
I mean, everything we've worked for since January everything we've
been through, all the adversity that we faced, all comes
down at three minutes in a semi finals and we're
able to drive it down and finish it.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
That's very m and MS. I think for me, he
kind of sounded like getting ready. You know, three the
rap battle against Papa Don.
Speaker 4 (36:55):
Just threw up spaghetti on his mom's spaghetti on his sweater,
like off.
Speaker 6 (36:58):
To the side.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
National TV curs.
Speaker 6 (37:02):
Yeah, no, he got excited. I mean, come on, it's impossible.
Speaker 4 (37:06):
To try and keep it together in that moment, especially
because the Rebels were up. They were up, like you
had to score, there was nothing you could do.
Speaker 6 (37:18):
And they were up by four.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
Or n by three.
Speaker 4 (37:20):
They're by three, so they could have hit a field
goal to maybe tie the game. Maybe, but no, wait, no, no, no, no, no,
hold on, when Miami scored, they went up by.
Speaker 1 (37:28):
Three, Miami went up by four, Miami, they were down
by three, they scored a touchdown.
Speaker 4 (37:33):
Sorry, I was like, wait, because at the end it
could have been that. Yes, that's right, at the end,
the Rebels had to get the touchdown. They couldn't get
the kick.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
Was already hit.
Speaker 4 (37:43):
All of that, all that they had to score, and
so it was just I can't imagine the emotions for
Miami in that moment, for those players and also for
Ole miss Yes, but in that moment, because you you
were losing. With three minutes you were losing, it was
like almost out of your grasp. And Carson Beck, Carson
Beck is like, oh, look at that lane right there.
Speaker 1 (38:04):
Life is no movie, there's no Makai Piffer, right. Look,
this is this was a case watching this game that
you saw the offenses open up in the fourth quarter
and and you know the pass interference with which we'll
get to coming up in a few minutes is a
big deal. But listen, Miami was a team that they
had that really rough middle of the season. But watching
them early on, I just said, Okay, this is the
(38:26):
best Miami team I've seen in a long even better
than team last year. And they had cam Ward who
went number one overall in the draft. And and you know,
I think people were sleeping on Miami a little bit
because they're one of those Miami going to the National
Championship Game. Despite the fact, what are you looking for
superstar players?
Speaker 3 (38:43):
Right?
Speaker 1 (38:43):
Malachai Tony is a superstar. They run the football really well.
You have you have Carson Beck and and look, you
know the sledgehammer game they have running at Fletcher's really good.
But this is one of those and they don't give
them credit for it. But they're kind of like in
Ohio State Light in which they do every thing really well,
but you know, their game breakers are not quite at
(39:05):
the highest of the highest level at least right now.
Like Tony will get there in a couple of years
because he's that talented. But I think overall, people were
sleeping on Miami way more than you expected, because this
is a solid team all the way around. Their defense
is greade all the way around. They get enough on
offense from the quarterback, they have enough playmakers, like you know,
I know that they're looking at them as well. They
(39:25):
were the ten seed coming in. How good are they really?
But that difference between ten and six and ten and
four is really not that big a deal. I mean,
you see, it seems like a big upset, But overall,
I just think everybody was sleeping more in Miami than
they should have been.
Speaker 6 (39:39):
Well one hundred percent.
Speaker 4 (39:40):
They didn't even get to compete in there in the
ECC Championship game, right, Like nobody thought that they should.
I feel like there was controversy of them even getting
into the college football playoffs, and it's just like, no,
because of that two to three weeks that we mentioned
earlier on in the show where they lost to Louisville
and SMU, I feel like people just put them off
to the side, and then that's just carry over until
(40:00):
the end of the season, even though they ended up
with the winning streak by the end of.
Speaker 6 (40:03):
It, because I was like in the middle, I agree
with you.
Speaker 4 (40:05):
I think people were not taking them seriously, maybe because
of what you said that they didn't have all of
these big names like other schools do. And then of
course Carson Beck, which I jokingly said to you that
I was like, when.
Speaker 6 (40:16):
I pick my bracket, I was like, no way that
Carson Beck is gonna beat Ohios Day. Stupid me.
Speaker 4 (40:21):
Yeah, you know what, But I feel like that's how
a lot of people just there's no way Carson Beck's
gonna be Ohio State.
Speaker 6 (40:26):
It's Ohio State.
Speaker 1 (40:27):
Yeah, there were sexier teams, there were sexier choices in Miami.
Here they are in the National title Game. Jason Smith
Moncy Belanos Live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios. Coming
up next, we break down the play of the game
that everybody is talking about, the non pass interference call
on the final play Fox. It was p I
