Give us you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Hello and welcome inside our three of The Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. We're live from
the tire rack dot Com studios. Tyrack dot com help
you get there in unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free
road hazard protection, over ten thousand recommended installers, tiraq dot
com the way tire buying should be. Well. It is

(00:53):
now midnight on the East Coast as we celebrate with
you know, football is over. Baseball is over. We had
Halloween two on all four TVs. Man worst lit hospital ever, No, no, no,
we don't need lights in the hospital.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
Halloween two saves a lot of money on your production costs,
though well.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
It also saves time because you have to shoot less footage.
Because this is back when every sequel to a horror
movie opened up with the last ten minutes of the
previous one, So like Halloween two opens up with the
last fifteen minutes of Halloween. I get to see it
all over. I did that with Friday the thirteenth, We
did it. Yeah, where can we keep recycling some footage? Yeah,

(01:40):
you get to see the whole here. They do that
in other film industry. Yeah, portions as well. Yeah, but
it's my yes, sure, yes, but it is the most
famous and in horror movies, yes it is. It is. Yeah,
you said r movies, horror horror movies. That's what I said.
In horror movie making. Sure you are a movie. It
don't tell appropriately tell me what I'm not a nuncia.

(02:02):
I'm enunciate at correctly quiet numb skulls on broadcast.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
Broadcasting here, I mean anytime we get more uh more,
you know, video footage of Donald pleasants.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
We won because it is a very pleasant evening. It's
a very pleasant even you know.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
We we got to watch a big World Series game,
full slate of NBA action, big effort from Steph Kurry
against Zion Williamson and company. Sure, we watched the Lions
obliterate the Raiders, and and now that is looking like
a horror movie that is unfolding as we're hours from
the trade deadline, and everybody's angry and throwing bows.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Now, let me tell you this. The Lions win. And
I don't know if you know this or not. I don't
know if you know this or not, but I picked
the Lions to go to the Super Bowl. I think
I heard that from some thing with the guy in
the place. I remember that. So when everybody says it tomorrow,
you know, it's like, oh, yeah, Jason said that a
long time ago. If you are legitimately looking at the

(03:03):
NFC right now, who's better than the Lions. There's only
one team you can say, Hey, maybe the Eagles, But
you know what, quite honestly, the Eagles seem and they
play board right. That's my thing with the Eagles is that, yes,
they're seven and one, They're definitely a team that's saying,
we were within a hair's breadth of winning the Super

(03:25):
Bowl last year. We know we need to do in
the playoffs. We're a talented roster. They're just going out
and winning now with the they're going out of winning
just on talent. It's fine. I'll take that over the
ass hattery I'm dealing with with my squad. You don't
have as much talent, that's the whole thing. You don't
have as much talent as the do. No, you have nothing,
So you can't win on talent when you don't have talent.

(03:46):
You don't have enough talent to win on talent alone.
All right, just so you know you can't do that.
I think I'm gonna put that out a shirt. That
might have been John Heisman. I don't know, you don't
have enough talent to win on talent alone. And i'd
also been from Varsity Blues. I don't know. Wait, were
you quoting John Housman? Yeah, no, no John. If I
was quoting John Houseman, i'd be speaking like this. Uh No,

(04:07):
I don't know who that was. It could have been
Bobby Baffort. I don't know. I'm just saying I would
like to have that kind of problem. You don't have that.
We just keep waiting.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
They don't look like they're right, because that's that's the
most criticism we could lob at the Eagles at this point. No, No,
there's a obviously their defenses has been I mean, Sam
Sam Howell, Let's get all over.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Let look, let let let's seal. Let's seal this first.
The difference between the talent level of the Bears and
the Eagles is the difference between in quality terms, from
Halloween two to Halloween one. It's like the Eagles are
Halloween one, you're Halloween two. Wait? Why is this? Why
is the hospital so dark? Why does nobody work there?
Why is no one protecting her? Why are the police
not there? I made understanding. Look, we still have unanswered

(04:50):
questions in both what the hell ever happened?

Speaker 2 (04:52):
All?

Speaker 4 (04:52):
And we once upon a time defensive coordinat you went
missing with a lot of speculations that really got weird,
and then we've never heard about him again.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
He was a story for Hocky Gone. And so there's
no talent. But if you're asking me right now, Lions Eagles,
I'll take the Eagles. Sorry, I'll take the Lions over
the Eagle. Your heart just said, I answer really fast
because you won't be able to think about it. You'll
tell me the truth. It's not like I'm a philip

(05:28):
Asonian pentafle, which I don't know if that really works Anyway,
if its good, I'll take the Lions because the Eagles,
like I said, the way they play right now, they
play a little boared. They're doing just enough. Jalen Hurts
is also prone to making mistakes. And I can see
the Eagles season ending in a game in which, boy,

(05:49):
they make a lot of mistakes and he's gonna make
and he's gonna make mistakes. He's going to force a
ball where he shouldn't. And defensively they can give up
the big game teams that shouldn't move the ball on them. Dude,
they had the best rush defense in the NFL. The
Jets had Zach Bleep and Wilson at quarterback, and they
ran all over the Eagles. Right. You look at Sam Howe?
Who was Sam how I? Like, I told you I

(06:10):
liked him more than more than a lot of people.
We we well, we liked him last year and kept
wondering why.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
Ron Rivera never pond says the quiet part out loud
even this week, talking about why why didn't you challenge that?

Speaker 1 (06:23):
We didn't? You know see it? I wanted we were
just we just we were just done. I wanted I
was hungry. I had a couple of ho hose waiting
for me. And some ding dogs and twinkies, and I
was just you know, jing do don't know. I love
ding dongs. Ding dongs are so good, especially frozen ding
dogs and ho hose, But ho hos kind of stick
to the bottom all the time, and I lose that
layer of chocolate. I don't want to buy something where

(06:45):
I lose a layer of chocolate. You know you can
use that as a base for a nice cake too,
Uh okay, sure, yeah, one of the like a bumpy cake.
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I did for you. I just
changed life. The Eagles. The Eagles are prone to the
egg game. That they're prone to the I'm laying an egg.
And defensively, maybe they're not quite what you think they were.

(07:07):
Because for Washington to move the football the way they did,
I mean that was something you had a great day
by McLaurin. You had the Dotson breakout game and not
Josh Dotson. Uh. You know, John Dotson had a big
game and it has best game as a pro. The
Eagles scare me a little bit with the fact that
they can't play with enough of a sense of urgency.
They couldn't put away the Jets. Yah, they had trouble

(07:29):
couldn't put away Washington. They fall behind in a lot
of games and then they play catch up. Now, luckily
they've so far been playing teams where offensively, well, we
can catch up because we have the horses. But you
play that way against the Lions, line's gonna run away
and hide because the Lions have The Lions have the weapons,
and you've seen it and and this is this is
a system that works with with seven guys the Lions

(07:52):
have that are dangerous they can get the football to
And so if you're asking me right now, if I said,
all right, who would I like more? I like the
Lions more. Right now. The Lions are. The Lions are
peaking a little bit more. They're playing, they're playing better defensively,
They're really aggressive. Haydon Hudginson has become a superstar player,
and so maybe taking him number one overall instead of
Sauce Gardener is going to work out for them. But yeah,

(08:13):
give me the Lions right now, especially if the Lions
wind up playing at home, because Lions at home. Yeah,
most teams are better at home. The Lions have a
little bit more of a comfort level. They kind of
remind me a little bit of how the Indianapolis Colts
were in the Peyton Manning era when they were playing
in the RCAA Nome Lucas oil field where he would
spray the ball over the place and they looked like

(08:34):
they were playing in their living room. So a little
bit more for the Lions, who were right on the
Eagles tail for best record. But I'll still take the
Lions over the Eagles just because I don't quite think
I'm getting the best product of the Eagles and playing
a really really good team. I can see them going
down and turnovers with Jalen Hurts and them going down
to defeat in Philadelphia, saying we didn't know what happened here.

(08:55):
We thought the Phillies were going to win. Now, now
we thought the Eagles were gonna win. Now, maybe wreck
some wings something for Rot mclaney, I don't know we're
gonna get you now with Philbelfia.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
Yeah, I mean I understand your point of Then you
took an l to the to the Jets, so that
kind of stands, and in every game they win, I
guess it looks a little bit better. But the Jets'll
go up in the power rankings because no, well sure,
you know whenever we have our fictitious power ranking meeting.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
We'll get to that. But they then came back the
next week and they bludgeoned what everybody was telling me
was a great team in Miami, right, and your Lions,
just because they beat up on the hapless Raiders who
got beat up on by the Bears. Right, let's not
let's not forget a week ago we watched the Bears
run all over them, and Deontay Foreman was a hero,

(09:42):
Tyson beagent all of a sudden, all these great narratives
with his two point five yards per average depth of throw.
Suddenly he was a hero. But we look at the
Raiders and watched them get bludgeoned with great regular Right,
their team under his hit every week this season, as

(10:04):
Steve pointed out in his update, you know, yet to
cross that twenty one point barrier this year. So you know,
last week they went and they stepped up in class.
And it takes nothing away from the season opening win
against the Chiefs. That was a good one, Right, that
was a good one. Didn't matter that you didn't have
Kelsey or Jones. You still beat the Chiefs. And now

(10:25):
you look at the Chiefs, go, well, they got warts.
They still have Mahomes who was sick this week, and
they lose to Denver whatever. But the rest of their schedule,
when they had the opportunity to go and show out
against Baltimore, they got slapped around. I mean just very
frankly defensively, they got worked and then the offense sustained nothing.

(10:47):
And I haven't heard you talk about Jared Goff's baby
hands once and all of your announces that wouldn't come
back to haunt them in a big spot later on
this season. Yeah, I'm concerned with the fact that Hurts
has been a little none shallant with the football. He's
got ten turnovers right, eight interceptions and two fumbles. Long
you can easily get the football. He likes to get

(11:07):
the football to you. So that is concerning to a degree.
I'll still take the Eagles. You know why, they've been
there before. There's something to be said for a team
that doesn't know and doesn't care. Sometimes October versus the
Lambs aren't going to go into a game going okay.
We want to make sure we start out and want

(11:28):
to survive the first quarter. We got to establish ourselves
slowly and import our will on the game. No, they
want to come out and go up and down the
field and put up fourteen points in the first quarter.
I mean, that's that's good.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
Saw the way the Raiders defense was able to limit
them to field goals a chunk, right, and Gibbs had
a huge game. I'm not trying to dismiss the Lions
as a contender at all, right because right now they
it's them and the Eagles. I mean today the forty
nine ers had a lot of things that need to
get worked out here right now.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
They threw for two seventy and ran for two twenty
to night. No, it's great. It's a night where they
just they should have scored more points. They didn't. But
but it's not like they got shut down by this
Raiders defense. This is one of those games red zone defense. Mad,
look at what the Raiders were able to do great
red zone work against your line's It wasn't perfect tonight,
But I'll take a team that's putting up five hundred

(12:19):
yards of offense and being able to run the football
the way they do, and that's what's gonna be just more.
Jared goff Troup Jared Jared Well The return of David Montgomery.
We talked about it's going to be a really big
thing the thunder lightning and and for whatever anybody thought
about and lightning with these guys, but with Montgomery right
power back that we watched the first couple of weeks

(12:39):
and people were mad about Gibbs and and we talked
about it on the shows, like why is an ec
in the ballmore? Because you don't need him to right
now right work him in the offense. Make sure he's
dancing in front of a mirror, getting pass protection down
so he can stay on the field when he needs to,
because we saw what happened Renelds with the with the fumble,
but the idea being that down the stretch if you

(13:01):
can run. I mean, look at the play differential today
right eighty one to forty five, controlled the ball, controlled
the clock. And that was with the speed guy in
We'll look, he's back Montgomery in three yards and a
cloud of dust at times, and hey, now you really
got something. Well, here's the other part of it is
you didn't have to go to Jamier Gibbs as much
because they like Craig Reynolds, who was a former shortstop

(13:23):
of the Astros. They like Craig Reynolds. Even though he
fumbled to Night, he ran for seventy five yards. But
now this shows you that, Okay, hey, wait a minute,
all the calls for Jamier Gibbs earlier in the season,
why isn't Gibbs getting the ball? He's gotta get the
hell do you not do it? Dan Campbell's been around
for five minutes, and what do you see from a
running back in the NFL is rookie year. Regardless of

(13:44):
how good they are, regardless, they all hit the wall
because they get to week eleven, week twelve, week thirteen,
it's wait, my season's usually over. I got into the
month and a half, oh, man, and what happens? They
hit the wall And because the pounding is bigger in
the NFL, the season is longer, and they hit the wall.
So now when you're looking at Jamiir Gibbs just really
starting to get into play and get some responsibility, we're

(14:07):
midway through the season, man, this is where he should
be fresh all the way through into the playoffs. And
Montgomery when he comes back from injury, play he's going
to be fresh. But he's a guy that's played, so
you have to worry about him so much. But really
what they've done with Jamiir Gibbs has really worked in that. Okay,
now we need to give the ball to Jamiir Gibbs
because it's not like they held back and they still
holding back. Now it's okay, Now it's time to ride

(14:28):
Jamiir Gibbs. The last two weeks, twenty six carries Tonight
touchdown here. You know, he caught five passes to night,
they had thirty one touches and was in the end
zone for a big twenty seven yard run. This shows
you the plan is working. Like as much as we
talked about the Raiders not having a plan, this plan
in Detroit is working. Do you have a system? It
really comes back to that. It's you know, the Lion

(14:50):
system is let's get as many talented players as we
can on the field and let's let him go. And
that's kind of what you're seeing.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
And right now Ben Johnson pulling the strings and that's great.
Lions fans do have to reconcile the fact that he
probably moves on after this year.

Speaker 1 (15:05):
And becomes a head coach.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
Now you're lucky in the fact that neither the Raiders
nor Bears will actually fire their coach because they don't
want to pay them out. So those are two jobs
that won't open. So Ben Johnson doesn't have to worry
about that. You know, you don't have to worry about
Ben Johnson there. But it's just the steroid suspension that's
still hanging over his head for five years.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
Now. Well, you know, so I got explained to millennials,
who Ben Johnson?

Speaker 2 (15:28):
You want to do that?

Speaker 1 (15:29):
Go ahead? No, okay. Ben Johnson, Canadian sprinter, was the
fastest man in the world but got busted because of
illegal substances and now is more notorious. And when we
say Ben Johnson, we have lines like this. We do
love the big word notorious here on the show as well.
But no, look, Lions and Eagles are the class of
the conference right now. The forty nine Ers a lot

(15:51):
of great component parts. As we talked about earlier. You
need that healthy offensive line. Trent Williams cannot be replaced.
You see how big that is. And their defensive secondary
needs some help. We'll see how active when we talk
about Lynch and the forty nine ers brass are before
four o'clock tomorrow because they certainly need help on the
defensive side. Right now, the way they've been carved up

(16:13):
by Captain Kirk Cousins and Joe Burrow and back to
back weeks. Give me the Lions, best team in the
NFC Super Bowl. Lions can't do it, my Lions. I'm
the king a Ditro.

Speaker 3 (16:25):
I'm gonna have pictures of the people from It's Always
Sonny all over the studio.

Speaker 1 (16:29):
Look at me, said tormenting Ditro.

Speaker 3 (16:32):
You hate Rob.

a while. It's coming up next right here, Keep it

King of Detroit. I'm the King of Detroit.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
Be sure to catch live editions of the Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven

Speaker 1 (17:24):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best
Friend Mike Harmon, live from the tire rack dot Com Studios,
and we'll get back into the NFL in a couple
of minutes. But look, I think everybody is still reeling
at the news from a day ago the death of
Matthew Perry, who was found dead in a hot tub
in his home here in Los Angeles. And look anywhere

(17:47):
you look today, there were any number of people that
he worked with. The Friend's cast put out a statement
today about losing him and how close they've stayed since
the television show apped a few years ago, and just
so many stories about him and how in the last
few years he had really been focused on helping people

(18:08):
with addiction. He had his own addiction difficulties that he
was able to overcome and you know to the point
where he thought, hey, he was he almost died and
he was able to get extra time and and and
trying to help people, and he has been doing that
the last few years. It's obviously it's it's it's something
still shocking to think about, especially if you're of a

(18:29):
certain age like you and I who who watched that
show growing up like that show especially. It's especially when
I think about how the show started when I was
twenty three, twenty four and these people were all twenty three,
twenty four and and you know, their twenties, late twenties,
thirties were my twenties, late twenties, early thirties, and the

(18:50):
show was a was was was one of my favorites.
I watch it every week, you know, and you know,
we had fun last week saying, hey, you know you
watch Friends, and you see how you see some of
them without a laugh, act what it is. But it
was it's still a a It's still just this common
touchstone for a lot of generations. And it's not just
you know, my generation, you and me who watch it,
but now other people are finding it in syndication. And

(19:13):
for Matthew Perrys is fifty four years old, it was
a real it was a real shock to see, you know,
thought he had been able to turn his life around,
but you know, we're still waiting to find out exactly
what happened. And you know, all I could think of
yesterday was the time I had an accidental phone call
with him about ten years ago. You want a great
story about accidental I phone phone call. Yes, it was

(19:36):
an accidental phone call. I was at a party with
friends of ours on a Saturday night and one of
my friends, good friend that I've talked known for a
long time. His job is to run a different arenas,
Like he ran Staple Center, he ran where the YouTube
theater is now, So that was his job. Michael Roth guyhu,

(19:56):
you know Michael Roth, Right, But it's I know, yeah, okay,
but not like I'd say, hey, I yeah, get it,
dial them up. But you know, this goes back to
the you know you you know, hang out with JJ
abrams and powerbackers. Man, that's just one step removed. So
his job is to he runs all the arenas. And
it was whether it was a concert coming in or
a game or something else. And I knew him for

(20:18):
a long time and he and I are both huge
West Wing fans. All right, big you know me West Wing?
How many? Yeah? Yeah. So we would do this thing
where if we had a trivia question, we'd call somebody, Hey,
what was the what was the line CJ said in
this one? What was the line that Sam said in
Celestial navigation like all this too. So he calls me
on a on a Saturday night answer phone. I go, hey,
what's going on? He goes, all right, no phones, you

(20:40):
got to tell me this answer without looking your phone.
I go what, He goes, friend of mine. We're trying
to figure out what was the name of Matthew Perry's
character in West Wing And Matthew Perry came on in
the middle of the of the Run and he played
a lawyer whose big character arc was he took down
the vice president who was involved in a scandal. And
he was nominated for Emmys for a couple of a
couple of Emmys for his role there. So I'm going, oh,

(21:00):
it was Joe, And I go, oh, it's Joe. It's Joe.
It's Joe something. It's Joe something. And Michael goes, all right,
let me put my friend on so you can so
you can figure it out. I said sure. So phone
gets on to here, so it's yes, yeah, you're right,
it's Joe Something. We're trying to figure out what it is,
and within a second I know, oh my god, this
is Matthew Perry. So now he and I are on
the phone trying to come up with the name of

(21:22):
his character, the last name of his character. Wait, he
couldn't remember his character. No, he couldn remember the last
name of his character. He goes, oh, I played Joe,
because this is no, this is not like ten years
after West Wing ended, and I go oh, and I
go and I go, oh, my god. I go it's
matt Oh my god. I'm talking to Matthew Perry. And
I try to get Pam's attention to go I'm talking
to Matthew Perry and she doesn't get it. And I
feel like that scene from Friends where it's I'm in

(21:42):
an atm vestibule with Jill Goodae. I had to go,
I speak Joe. Now, that one came up quite often
in the homage. So I'm talking to him and he goes,
it's Joe. What was what was the last name? It
was Joe. It wasn't Joe, it wasn't Jones, it wasn't
Joe Fox. I go, no, Joe Fox was Tom Hanks's character.
And you've got Pam and he goes and he goes, yeah.

(22:03):
Jay goes, well, that's random that you would know that,
And I go, oh, that's why. That's why my friend
calls me, I know, random stuff, and he goes, Hey,
that character we're talking about it is not a random character.
And I said, no, it's I said, no, it's not.
The guy won an Emmy for it too. He goes,
were nominated. And all of a sudden, I'm like, I'm
going back and from youth Perry with one of the

(22:24):
greatest comedic actors the last twenty years. I'm going toe
to toe with him. I'm going, Okay, wow, this is weird.
He is wasn't Joe Fox, It wasn't. So I go,
I'm trying to think, and I go Joe, and I go,
I'm trying to think of the big episode where they
but where he busts the vice president, where he's having
the conversation with Alison Janny and he's pointing to the
phone numbers in the office and and she they're both

(22:45):
listening to the phone call of the entertainment reporter. This
is all plotlines from West Wing. You listen to the
phone call the entertainment reporter and and and he's pointing
to the phone numbers to connect to the White House,
to connect to the reporter that connect back to the
entertainment reporter. I go and it's Joe and I go,
and they say it. The Vice president says, oh, they're
gonna build statues for you, Joe, and he goes, no,
keep going. I feel like, well, I'm shooting the movie.

(23:06):
I feel like I'm shooting the episode again. And I said, guy,
I said, okay, sure, I go, but they're gonna build
statues for you. And they go. And he was trying
to They called him and kept calling him a shyster.
And they go, no, it with sawbones they wanted to say,
and he goes, Okay, first of all, you're a freak.
I don't know who you are, but you're a freak
like that. I know all these lines. So I go, Joe,
and then it hits me Joe Quincy, go Joe Quincy,
Joe Quincy, Joe. He goes, yes, Joe Quincy. I heard

(23:29):
him say, Mike, Joe Quincy, Joe Quincy.

Speaker 2 (23:31):
Al Right.

Speaker 1 (23:32):
He goes, hey, thank you so much. You know, have
a great night. I said, you two. He goes, I'm
gonna give you back to Mike now. I said, all right, great,
and then the phone goes away and that it is
here freaks. And then then he gives the phone to
Mike and I go, oh my god, dude, what was
that all about? And he goes, I'll call you tomorrow.
So I'm like, how is he hanging out with Matthew Perry?
I have no idea. Well, I remember Matthew Perry's comeback
to TV was the show called Mister Sunshine, where his

(23:55):
danger was, Yeah, he ran a sports arena in San Diego,
and so what he was doing was he was following
my friend around just to kind of do research for
the role. So they were hanging out and that's how
the whole think, and they're talking about West Wings. We
talking about West Wing all the time. And so that
phone call came and and my nickname for a while
with my friends was that I told the story too
was freak freak, because I'm like, he called me freak twice.

(24:16):
I was like the freak, like before Javon Curse was
a freak, or maybe after Javon Curse was a freak.
So I'll never forget. I'll never forget how funny he was,
how nice he was, and he just seemed like a
fun guy that was like, yeah, let's call your friend
to find out the name of the character I played.
Because I can't think of it, and I'm like, okay, cool,
and it was just I hang up the phone and
I go I stuck to Matthew Perry because he couldn't
remember the name his character on West Wing, and Pam

(24:37):
goes Joe Quincy. I'm like, yeah, but you couldn't understand
what I was saying because I had to do this
whole thing and I'll never forget it. I'll never I'll
never forget it. It was such a he was such a
fun guy and was so into it, and you know,
the lines he's running off. I feel like I should
he even said to me one point when I said,
he goes, no, I feel like I'm shooting the scene,
and he goes, I should have some more popcorn, Mike popcorn,

(24:59):
Like like, he's doing these funny lines, and it was
just so much fun. I'm like, he just seems like
a regular guy that was having fun. And and this
phone call came and is, yeah, let's call let's call
your friend. And I never forgot about it, and anytimes
name would come up, I remember. And then the story
breaks yesterday, I go, I just you know, I'm just
stilling shock. I can't believe it. Happened now.

Speaker 3 (25:17):
I want to sing that theme song, mister Sunshine. Yeah, no,
it's good, Joe.

Speaker 1 (25:22):
I enjoyed it.

Speaker 3 (25:23):
I was a big fan of his work all the
way through, even as a child actor. And one of
the things with friends and you know, you post and
you you just try to, you know, try to find
the right words. And there are characters that that cut
through and look for what we do for a living,
there's there's a lot, right you talk about comedians and
comedy born of experience and and sometimes pain trauma and

(25:47):
you do your best out there and that and that's
always been the line that's been associated with Matthew Perry, right,
is you know, whatever was going on, his addictions, deemed
his family whatever that it came through in those performances
and sarcasm. I mean they had a skit when he
was on Saturday at Live sarcasm one to one come
on in, you know, that kind of thing. And I

(26:07):
think we all, it may maybe not all, but a
lot of us that do this media stuff, we see
ourselves a little bit in that Chandler character of how
he dealt with situations that's been you know, as much
as I like parts of the show, dislike parts of
the show, that character always stayed as as true to

(26:30):
when you're in situations and you're uncomfortable, whatever it is, relationships,
whatever the topic might have been, that was your mechanism
of getting through it. And I certainly identify with that.
Holy And you know the quote that you started with
saw it was up from Mira Sorvino quoting you know,
part of his book that came out and the tour

(26:50):
that he'd done from it, you know, just saying, hey,
I want to be remembered. You know, friends is great,
right and all of that, but all the work I've
been doing. There was a great that was put up
from Hanka's area talking about how Matthew Perry helped him
get sober. Yeah, and that being a big part of
what he was trying to do. So hopefully, you know,
wherever we go in as we shed this this world,

(27:14):
you know that there's some peace to his soul for
those that are struggling. And obviously we don't know final
details of all this stuff, but you know, reach out
if you've got friends, family that I are dealing with things,
you know, just reaching out to say, hey, you know,
I picked the Lions to go to the Super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (27:31):
That's a good thing. Yeah, I reach out my opener,
that's my open you know what I mean. Like all
of those reach out, find and you know, find find
those folks, grab them, hold tight and if you need help,
plenty of places and reach out to your friends and
family because they want to help.

Progressive dot Com. So I'm gonna say something here, and
you know, this all falls into the category of what
do I know? But I think I know something. So
we've talked about the Jets win over the Giants yesterday
maybe the worst football game in the history of the NFL.
Oh No, it was not good for Addy. If the
Jets lost that game, it would have been on the

(28:39):
metal stand on the Mount rushmore of worst Jets losses ever,
because they would have lost to a team that didn't
complete a pass the final forty minutes of the game
and had minus eight yards passing overall. Yeah, but Tommy
DeVito would have been the winner. Tommy Tommy Well Illinois.
Yeah no, they're both claiming. But what happened? How did

(29:01):
the Jets suddenly go from fifty nine minutes and thirty
seconds of general suckiness on offense into suddenly, wow, here
they're down the field for two lightning fast field goals.
What happened? Zach Wilson was able to play fast. He
had to throw the ball down the field, he had
to react, and suddenly things started working. The defense opened

(29:24):
up a little bit. Two twenty nine yard completions in
a row, and then in overtime, same thing, had the
one on one, got the pass interference call, Jets kick
a field goal and win.

Speaker 3 (29:33):
His safety was so angry. I mean, yeah, so it
just turned your head enough, you're not getting called for it.

Speaker 1 (29:39):
Yeah, but he didn't turn his head. And this is
where I say, you know, I'm not Nathaniel Hackett, but
I'll play an offensive coordinator. Because Zach Wilson's someone like
we talk about him every week. The Jets seem so
intense and set with we don't want him to make mistakes, right,

(30:00):
And I've told you this is why they've ruined him
from the beginning, because they've tried to turn him into
a quarterback who is a general game manager, and that's
not who he is. He's a guy that throws the football,
takes chances, goes downfield, has a big arm, and because
Robert Sala is a defensive coordinator, doesn't want to have
to win that way. But realize suddenly, oh man, well,

(30:21):
our offense thinks, let's go get Aaron Rodgers. Lets Aaron
Rodgers do his thing. But now that it's back to
Zack Wilson, it's oh wait, wait, Zach Wilson, don't make mistakes.
Let's just run the football win. Can't do it that
way in the NFL. And because he comes from season
game through a defensive lens, Robert Sala always thinks we
can run the football and we can play defense, and
we can throw only when we have to. Can't do

(30:41):
it that way. When does Zach Wilson look the best?
Right because he's been on national TV a bunch of
times now because it supposed to be Aaron Rodgers against
the Chiefs, against the Eagles, against the Giants. When what
when he has to go fast, when the Jets have
to allow him freedom to get down. You're never going
to be a great quarterback if you have to think

(31:03):
and if you're limiting what a guy can do at
this point, live with Zach Wilson. If he throws a
couple of picks, he throws a couple of picks, it's
gonna happen. But when is he succeeding when he's allowed
to throw the football downfield a little bit? Let him
do let him roll him out to the right, let
him throw back across his body to the left side
of the field. Let him do something because what do
I know? But I know seeing this team when they

(31:24):
let him go fast, when they have to guess what,
Zack Wilson moves the ball down the field, So why
not let him do that instead of this crazy ass
dumb let's keep it really dialed down and conservative, which
is not working and it's too much pressure and it's
not a formula to win, but you do it the
other way, you open things up suddenly, Hey, that's a
way to win.

Speaker 3 (31:43):
Well, look, because you want to talk about you, I
want to talk about me too. Throw some Toby Keith
in because the Chicago Bears are doing the same thing
right now with Justin Fields, right And it was evident
and apparent, and the quotes scene around the world as
to how they were describing Tyson, Agent collins Worth, and
Tariico clearly from the mouthpieces of the coaches of you know,

(32:06):
talking about getting the ball out, this, that the other, Like, Okay,
you've got this type of system you want to run
versus you have a special athlete in Justin Fields. And
for your guy, Zach Wilson, why are you not playing
and designing and altering your system to take the best

(32:26):
attributes they have and put them in a position of
success instead of saying, no, you're just gonna have to
learn on the fly this which is not who you are,
what you've learned, or how you play and how you're
most effective. Zach Wilson throws a pretty ball when you
just let him wing it right, when you just say
all right, we're opening up the offense and let's go.

(32:47):
You've made a couple of big throws and even the
ball where the interference penalty got called, Like that ball's
in a spot to make a big play, right, it's
a tight spot, but it's in a spot to go
make a big play. And that's what you saw with
the Bears and fields last year, running for over a
thousand yards and the big plays that he did make.

(33:08):
Now that that to be said. In yesterday's game with Pagent,
there were a couple of balls that should have been caught.
Joanes should have been cut on the site after dropping
that ball in the end zone. But you know, it's
the same thing. You're trying to fit pieces into a
puzzle of your design, recognizing, you know what, you got
the wrong puzzle in the box. It's not the one

(33:29):
that's on the back that you're trying to build lake. Wait,
what are we doing? Like, yeah, that's it.

Speaker 1 (33:33):
You draft the guy to be your franchise quarterback and
you don't build the offense around him. Right, I'm gonna
make him fit into my system. Which how do you
do that? I don't understand how that is still a
philosophy that works in twenty twenty antiquated way of doing
it in nineteen eighty I did it nineteen seventy five.
This is my system, and the players are interchangeable. No
to the case anymore, don't. I don't get how teams

(33:54):
still do that and they still think that's a good idea.

Speaker 3 (33:57):
But you draft a guy for who he is and
they say, I love you, now change, I'd be really,
I mean really, it's just going into all the dating
psychology or whatever. I was like, I like you for that,
Now I really want to mould you over here. Yeah, yeah,
I love you, but I want you to change after
the wedding. You better change that. Wait what Yeah, no,
you're gonna change after the wedding. I don't know why
teams do. I blame you is why would be a

(34:18):
great offensive coordinators?
