its own way of doing things, and left to their

So this is the story, and again it's so unnecessary.
An attorney representing Jaden Daniels, Commander Star quarterback, informed LSU
it can no longer use his name, image and likeness.
Now wait a minute, what are they doing here? Well,
because they have given star sophomore cornerback DJ Pickett his

number five, So it's very well that the jersey Jayden
Daniels wore number five. Very famously winning the Heisman Trophy
a few years fantastic, no question.
Speaker 3 (04:30):

He has talked to the school about not giving anybody
number five. That was a conversation, according to sources, happened
a while ago. But now that someone is wearing five,
potentially you can start selling five jerseys again.

And no, no, no, we don't have to give you
any money.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
This is DJ Pickett and so Jaden Daniels has put
out a cease and desist. They can no longer use
his name, image and likeness. This according to a letter
they sent the school a couple of weeks ago. So
Jane Daniels doesn't want anybody wearing number five. Well, how
did this come up?
Speaker 3 (05:03):

Speaker 1 (05:04):
DJ Pickett wore number three last year, had a really
good year, and according to Pickett, he was promised that
he could wear number five. That was number in high school.
He wanted to wear it, and Lane Kiffin has decided, yeah,
I don't give a crap. Jane Daniel didn't with the
Heidsman Trophy for me, I'll give you number five. So
that's how Pickett wound up getting number five. Now, this
is a really ridiculously stupid story. It gets even more ridiculous.

When DJ Pickett actually met the media to talk about
this earlier today, here's what Pickett had to say about
the situation evolving Daniels the number five and him getting
to wear it.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
It's about the number situation. What a number my whole
life since I was four years old as a number,
I was promised. Yeah, and I wish Jadeen abyss good player.
And he did real good here, so that's all.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
Good player, good player, won the Heisman trophy, won the
heis patroll.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
He's only gonna kiss his ass so much trophy?
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Right if he's really gone through his resume and talked
about how great he was, you think it makes a
situation ain't better?
Speaker 5 (06:07):
No?
Speaker 3 (06:07):
You know soft Shewett. Hey, he was great, he was
good when he was here.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
And here's where he he was pretty good. Here's where
everybody is missing the story because all I have seen
all day was, boy, what a bad look for Jayden Daniels.
How petty does he seem? He's got a big contract
in the NFL. He made his money at LSU. It's
bad where he has to beg a team to not
give somebody his number, right, And I okay, and I'm like, Okay,

I see that, but I feel like people just wanted
to hate on Jayden Daniels because honestly, this is much
worse of a look for LSU, because this is a
guy that won the Heisman Trophy and should it be
a pretty blanket statement that if you win the Heisman Trophy,
no one get your number.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
I like that. I also like the fact that, well.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
Billy Cannon won the Heisman Trophy, they didn't give his
number to anybody, and Joe Burrow won the Highs haven't
give anybody Joe Burrow's number nine, but we're giving Jayden
Daniels his number.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Yeah. Giffin was asked about the Joe Burrow things as well,
and nobody's asked right, Well, so I don't know.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
And here's Lane Kiffin who was not there at this time.
But Lane Kiffen could give a crap about legacy, about
what's important about the school. Oh, this kid wants number five.
He wore his whole life.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
He's a I'm gonna give it to you.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
It's like whoa wow, man, I mean you you seem
like we don't care, Like they seem like we don't
care about what you've done for us. If you're not
doing it for us right now at this moment. Like,
I think LSU looks bad overall because you have Lane
Kiffin basically saying, yeah, I don't give a crap about
James dan where James Danils might have a point here.
More people are gonna, oh, I could buy five now
if they're gonna put this jersey back in whatever it is.

Like you see, Lane Kiffin doesn't seem to care. DJ
Pickett doesn't seem to care. This is my number. I've
worn this all the time. Meanwhile, there's a way you
could have easily tant this out by retiring the jersey
but still giving it out to people like this is
what other schools have done. Hey, we're retiring your jersey,
doesn't mean other people aren't gonna where we can retire

this right, there's ways this could have been ironed.

Out very easily, very easily.

They could have done this because was Jaden Daniels hurt
more about the money and more about the fact that
he asked them not to get out the number or
just to do something for him and they haven't. Right,
this is something that could have been handled better. LSU
could have handled this better. This guy's an absolute legend.
Do you really want one of your two most famous
alumni ever right now to be someone who doesn't do
stuff for the school doesn't help you talk call players?

What if someone's a huge Jayden Daniels fan, Hey, Jade,
can you give this guy a call for us?

You land him yourself. You go get him yourself. Like
this is so None of this had to happen. All
that had to happen was LSU understanding Jayden Daniels where
he's coming from. LSU calls and says, listen, Jaden, I
get where you're saying. Pickets more in this his whole career.
He's a really good player for us. We want to
keep him happy. What if we retire your number earlier,
but we still allow him to wear it. You think

Jade Daniels are gonna say, Okay, no, I need that
extra three hundred grand from the name, image and likeness. No,
he just wants to be treated well enough, like a
guy that won a Heisman Trophy for a school that
didn't give out the other numbers of guys that won,
But yet they're giving out this one. Maybe no one
want I can't believe no one's wanted number nine since
they've shown up in Joe Burrow's time, Right, can't believe
no one wanted to wear Billy Cannon's number twenty for

the past seventy years. Oh, by the way, how great
of a football name is Cannon?

I mean more guy than Cannon's one of the greatest
names ever. So, like, how many more guys were out
there that wanted those numbers that, for one reason another
LSU said no to. But Brian Kelly was there. I'm
not gonna do it. Lane Kiffin, you know, could give
a crap about anything that doesn't involve two words Lane
or Kiffin, so you know he's not gonna care about it.

So that's why this could have been solved so easily,
and I hope that it's solved more easily now that
because this is just so incredibly messy. And now you
have one of your two most famous alums that wants
to sue you and is now you're at odds with him,
and you look bad because anybody that goes to LSU,
that's the superstars going, Wow, this is how they're gonn
treat their former players here, Like it's like free agency

teams players go and say okay, because you get players
that are gonna say, hey, I like the fact they're
giving DJ picking his number. Many other players going, man,
I don't like the fact this guy won the Heisman
Trophy and they're treating them like, yeah, you're not doing
anything for us. Man, We're not doing So there's so
many things that could have been solved in this for
this not to be a stupid story. This is a
knucklehead story that became a front page story all day.

So ham handed on several levels. Wait hand and good, okay,
but we talk about institutional control and minding your p's
and q's, you know, handing down line of success or whatever.
It's like, hey, we made a promise to Jaden whatever
that might have been. Maybe you didn't, maybe it was

just an understood I'm a great what are you doing.
There's rings of honors all over so like I'm a
Heisman winner. It should be there because look, he won
several years ago. Like this isn't like ancient history here,
but look, you can still sell his jersey. He's like,
that's not You're not gonna be precluded from doing that.
But for him, I look at there was a video

that was circulated. It was Michael Irvin. It's a good
bit and I've heard him do it before, but it
was the bit he did with Jimmy Kimmel, and he
was talking about, you know, getting your flowers and your
number and retiring numbers whatever, and he goes, you know,
if it's up in the rafters, they don't talk about
me again except on like an old timer's day or
when I'm gone. I'm paraphrasing, obviously, he goes. But when
(11:29):
Cede Lamb goes up and make a catch, they talk
about Michael Irvin. If CD Lamb drops the ball, they'll
say Michael Irvin never did that, or Dez Bryant or
anybody else wearing the number eighty eight. He goes, So
I'm always getting my flowers, my recognition, I'm being remembered
for Jade Daniels. If it's something to that effect, it's

like you're a Heisman Trophy winner. You're going to be
celebrated every year at a minimum for the rest of
your life. Now again with LSU, I mean, Kiffin's one thing.
Brian Kelly not exactly warm and fuzzy and a guy
that a lot of people cheer for. Around the business.
So whatever promises and history he had, right, you take
(12:12):
it all in. Whoever's writing the checks and running the
institution needs to be mindful of these things, just like
you are with hiring all of these middle managers and
up to make sure your NIL is administered properly and
everything else. Here you're talking about Jade and Daniels and
(12:33):
making sure you don't burn that bridge because you've had
how many XLSU guys couldn't get to a microphone or
their headset or a podcast or video fast enough and
watching guys take sides on this. The cannibalization of it
is just terrible for the university.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
Yeah, I mean, look, you have two big famous alum
Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels.
Speaker 3 (12:53):
Those are your guys.

You have other famous one, but these are your guys.
And to treat him like this to the point where
you couldn't figure it out? Yeah, I wants how do
we get to a point where I gotta send you
a cease and desist letter on this? How did you
let it get to that point? You need to be
the adults in the room and this saying okay, he's
got a problem. How do we solve this and keep

one of our two most famous alums happy with the
school that will still do things for us. We still
look great. I mean, it's a worst look for LSU
than is for Jane Daniels, because I can say, does
David's look a little petty? Yeah, I get it, but
I also understand pettiness sometimes. Boy boy, you're really not
honoring me like you've honored these other Heisman winners. You're
really you really kind of treat me bad here, and
I don't like seeing go boy. They they didn't give

out the other numbers to anybody, but they'll give out
your number. So yeah, I get that that can be.
But I understand the pettiness from LSU. I don't get
any of it.

It's just yeah, sorry, you're not gonna have We're gonaive
hm the number. That's how it's going. But as you said,
you you inject Lane Kiff into it. It's the we
brought you in and we paid you a load of
money to come in and win games by any means necessary,
which means he's shown how many times Jason he's okay
with being the bad guy.

I could lame like it just brushes off Lane Kiffin
could be in a Superman movie and he could be
at the top of the Eiffel Tower and he could
be falling off, and Superman would could fly in, grab
him while he's midway falling down, bring him safely to Earth,

put him down, and Lane Kiff would look down saying
was safe, and he would say I was a crappy
rescue man. You let me fall halfway. You suck and
he would that flip because I'm not doing something for
you right at this moment. I'm gonna say, like I
could actually see him doing that, you suck it out
of here suit, and Superman puts his head down and
walks off real said Christmas time.

I can say, I can see that, I could see
like Superman. The next Superman uses the just sad Charlie Brownson.
I mean, here's mis d Superman. Are you okay?

the rookie quarterbacks and what you think of them going forward,
what you got to see them the last few years
in college football. We talked about the jayde and Daniel
situation a few minutes ago and how he's got a
big season desist with LSU over another player wearing his
jersey number. Pete, this whole thing to me, seemed like
it was so avoidable. You know, where do you come

down on this story?

The problem with.

The Twitter machine nowadays is that, like in the past,
you would go to Twitter and you would just say,
all right, there's some nuance here. You know, there's some
you know, arguments from both sides, all kind of stuff.

Now, I just.

Assume that everything on Twitter is trash and it's bad,
stupid people saying dumb, stupid things. So when I saw
the Jayden Daniels saying, I'm like, all right, this is overblown.
This is people overreacting or for some reason they don't
like Dingy Daniels, and you know, okay, so the poor
guy's getting trashed here, and then you start diving deep,
in deeper into it's like the dudes mad over the

number five, like like okay, like I really, Jayden like
got a lot of stuff to worry about there. I'm
sure it's his agents. I'm sure it's you know, people
are as handlers or things like this. But like in
the dumbest off season in the history of college football,
with every single story being more boring and useless than

the last, like this just took it to a whole
other level. This is just like who cares? Like really,
Jade Daniels, you're gonna sew lsu for like the heir
replica heisman and name, image and likeness and all this
other kind of stuff, which, all right, seriously kicked the
ball off already, Let's get this thing going.

I want my trophy back.

I want the Badger Harold at the University of Wisconsin
to leave the half of the back page open on
Fridays in honor of me. That's what I'm gonna I
think they should. I think they should. They should just

better anything I wrote when I was there, but like

don't want them to, you know, to honor me in

I just love the part of the story. And and
Jayson I were just talking about this a little bit earlier, Pete,
is that we we've got Brian Kelly and Lane Kiff
and are your principles uh, and the coaching side of
any promises or agreements like yeah, that's gonna work out great,

If Brian Kelly is the good guy in the argument
like Kiffin, the there're the white hat guys. There's a
problem with your little debate here. It's just it's just
come on, like all right, really we're gonna get that
teddy at this point. Like it's just we need sports already,
we need everything to get going.

So look, so as as we said, with the quarterbacks
making their debut tonight, guys, and you know, and and
they mostly played pretty well overall. Mendoza played well, Aller
played well.

We're seeing this.

Mendoza is someone who you look for certain things and
and everything. He looked like he had tonight going going
for him.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
Are you on board that.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
Mendoza is you know? Is he the next great quarterback
of the NFL? Number one pick for a reason in
the sky's limit for him?
Speaker 7 (21:38):
When was not the top of your head. Give me
the last number one overall quarterback pick, which been just
totally awesome for the team that drafted him. I mean,
maybe Caleb, I mean to a certain except, but I'm
talking like like next level. This is the guy. If
you're to say, who are the top five to six, seven,
(21:58):
eight quarterbacks in the NFL right now, how many of
them went Number one to the team that drafted him,
like Stafford obviously went number one, but I was the
Detroit you know, Drake may No, he wasn't a number
one overall pick. Mahomes wasn't a number one. Josh Allen
was a number one. So you're really kind of fucking
history here to stay.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
Burrow is the only one. And he's the guy that
comes to mind. Yeah, and he was.
Speaker 7 (22:21):
Out for most of the last year, you know, but
even you know, but again keeps on going between Hurts
and Lamar and Jad and dangles obviously and like anyway,
but I think he's going to be one of those guys,
at least very early on, who's going to be like
awesome fantasy player as long as you don't need to
care about interception. Like he's gonna be the guy who
(22:41):
puts up a jillion yards of game and they lose
closed but you can see where he just can can
kind of light it up a little bit. I think
he's going to be just fine in this I actually
sort of like parts of this quarterback class. I don't
like Ty Stimpson. I wait to see what he's going
to do, but I was never a fan of his
come not Alabama, especially going as early as he did.
(23:03):
But I was a Carson Becks fan. I think he
showed it off in the Hall of Fame game. He
got his the River or whatever, and you know it
was out tonight. Felt like I kind of like he
was going to be the guy he was. There was
a time where he was the presumptive number one pick
versus his shoulder was a little bit off that arm strength.
But it would have been a different narrative if if
old Carson put another six inches under that throw in
(23:25):
the National Championship, Miami wins the national title, we probably
have a different narrative about Carson Beck and the Doza
just off on the one throw. But I liked him
a lot. And then look what we saw in that
Hall of Fame game again, James King, you know, out
of Georgia Tech.

He was great.

I mean, I know he was going up against guys
who are gonna be working at Appleby's next week, but
like he showed us the poise. And that's what these
college quarterbacks are because with nil in the extra years
of eligibility, they come in sharp. These are grown men
who know what they're doing and at the very least
they're going to be compotit right out of the gate.

Hey, I got sixty three points in that Hall of
Fame game. I'm I celebrated every damn one of them.

played pretty well. Though obviously his future is a backup
behind Daniel Jones. But he's still young enough if you

want to do the whole Sam Donald Young, Sam Donald Jung.
I mean, he just didn't play enough in college. Pete, like,
I look at Richardson and I go, man, that's a
decision that I look back three years ago and say,
who That's something that I think teams really should have
saw back then, that he didn't play enough football. I mean,
can he still be a guy that has some sort
of NFL future as a starter somewhere somewhere.

I mean, but that you kind of spoke to it.
I mean, first of all, it's really really hard to
be a good NFL quarterback.
Speaker 5 (26:56):
I mean, look at the just sometime you can you
can Google or whatever, and look it up and say
just say, you know, give me the first round draft picks,
you know, quarterback, and you're gonna see like name after
name a player.
Speaker 7 (27:08):
It's like, oh, well that didn't work. Well, that really
didn't work, and all got the blame gabbers and Blake
Bortles and you know, just you know, killing Smith and
just on and on and on. These guys who have
all the tools, and it's it's rare that you have
a superstar quarterback. That's why they keep he kept keep
trying to find them. You hope someone else can develop them.
And that's going to be the question this year about

Tie Simpson because he didn't play all that much and
the Rams are going to assume that, oh, you're one
back twins away from your super Bowl team meeting Ty
Simpson to be your guy. Well, you know, we only
played ten minutes a quarterback at Alabama. So when it
comes to Richardson, all the tools are just still there.
I mean, he's just got the the size to it.

But we saw this, you know, and it depends on
the quarterback. Sometimes these guys just aren't sharp from the start,
and that we saw with arch manding last year where
It's like he he needed the game to slow down
for him a little bit. And then as the year
went on, people kind of stopped watching Texas, but you
could see Arch starting to make better and better decisions,
and all of a sudden he got better as a
(28:11):
year ago. You only get those kind of things when
you're in college and you get those chances. At the
point of going to college to begin with is that
you know, you learn stuff and get better at your crap. Well,
but you know, if you're Richardson, yeah, if you're gonna
be a top top five, top ten picks, get in
the league, get paid generational wealth and all right, go on.
So like you thought, he just one, he got hurt
(28:31):
too much until he just wasn't quite ready. And so
either you're gonna you know, think or swimming in for
three years before everything slows down, or you get what
you got here where you know, Daniel Jones comes in
and he's just not going to get those rips. So
he's gonna have to get someone's gonna have to commit
to him somewhere to give him that shot.

An attorney representing Jaden Daniels, Commander Star quarterback, informed LSU
it can no longer use his name, image and likeness.
Now wait a minute, what are they doing here? Well,
because they have given star sophomore cornerback DJ Pickett his

number five, So it's very well that the jersey Jayden
Daniels wore number five. Very famously winning the Heisman Trophy
a few years fantastic, no question.

He has talked to the school about not giving anybody
number five. That was a conversation, according to sources, happened
a while ago. But now that someone is wearing five,
potentially you can start selling five jerseys again.

And no, no, no, we don't have to give you
any money.

This is DJ Pickett and so Jaden Daniels has put
out a cease and desist. They can no longer use
his name, image and likeness. This according to a letter
they sent the school a couple of weeks ago. So
Jane Daniels doesn't want anybody wearing number five. Well, how
did this come up?
Speaker 3 (05:03):

Speaker 1 (05:04):
DJ Pickett wore number three last year, had a really
good year, and according to Pickett, he was promised that
he could wear number five. That was number in high school.
He wanted to wear it, and Lane Kiffin has decided, yeah,
I don't give a crap. Jane Daniel didn't with the
Heidsman Trophy for me, I'll give you number five. So
that's how Pickett wound up getting number five. Now, this
is a really ridiculously stupid story. It gets even more ridiculous.

When DJ Pickett actually met the media to talk about
this earlier today, here's what Pickett had to say about
the situation evolving Daniels the number five and him getting
to wear it.

It's about the number situation. What a number my whole
life since I was four years old as a number,
I was promised. Yeah, and I wish Jadeen abyss good player.
And he did real good here, so that's all.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
Good player, good player, won the Heisman trophy, won the
heis patroll.

He's only gonna kiss his ass so much trophy?
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Right if he's really gone through his resume and talked
about how great he was, you think it makes a
situation ain't better?

You know soft Shewett. Hey, he was great, he was
good when he was here.

And here's where he he was pretty good. Here's where
everybody is missing the story because all I have seen
all day was, boy, what a bad look for Jayden Daniels.
How petty does he seem? He's got a big contract
in the NFL. He made his money at LSU. It's
bad where he has to beg a team to not
give somebody his number, right, And I okay, and I'm like, Okay,

I see that, but I feel like people just wanted
to hate on Jayden Daniels because honestly, this is much
worse of a look for LSU, because this is a
guy that won the Heisman Trophy and should it be
a pretty blanket statement that if you win the Heisman Trophy,
no one get your number.

I like that. I also like the fact that, well.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
Billy Cannon won the Heisman Trophy, they didn't give his
number to anybody, and Joe Burrow won the Highs haven't
give anybody Joe Burrow's number nine, but we're giving Jayden
Daniels his number.

Yeah. Giffin was asked about the Joe Burrow things as well,
and nobody's asked right, Well, so I don't know.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
And here's Lane Kiffin who was not there at this time.
But Lane Kiffen could give a crap about legacy, about
what's important about the school. Oh, this kid wants number five.
He wore his whole life.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
He's a I'm gonna give it to you.

It's like whoa wow, man, I mean you you seem
like we don't care, Like they seem like we don't
care about what you've done for us. If you're not
doing it for us right now at this moment. Like,
I think LSU looks bad overall because you have Lane
Kiffin basically saying, yeah, I don't give a crap about
James dan where James Danils might have a point here.
More people are gonna, oh, I could buy five now
if they're gonna put this jersey back in whatever it is.

Like you see, Lane Kiffin doesn't seem to care. DJ
Pickett doesn't seem to care. This is my number. I've
worn this all the time. Meanwhile, there's a way you
could have easily tant this out by retiring the jersey
but still giving it out to people like this is
what other schools have done. Hey, we're retiring your jersey,
doesn't mean other people aren't gonna where we can retire

this right, there's ways this could have been ironed.

Out very easily, very easily.

They could have done this because was Jaden Daniels hurt
more about the money and more about the fact that
he asked them not to get out the number or
just to do something for him and they haven't. Right,
this is something that could have been handled better. LSU
could have handled this better. This guy's an absolute legend.
Do you really want one of your two most famous
alumni ever right now to be someone who doesn't do
stuff for the school doesn't help you talk call players?

What if someone's a huge Jayden Daniels fan, Hey, Jade,
can you give this guy a call for us?

You land him yourself. You go get him yourself. Like
this is so None of this had to happen. All
that had to happen was LSU understanding Jayden Daniels where
he's coming from. LSU calls and says, listen, Jaden, I
get where you're saying. Pickets more in this his whole career.
He's a really good player for us. We want to
keep him happy. What if we retire your number earlier,
but we still allow him to wear it. You think

Jade Daniels are gonna say, Okay, no, I need that
extra three hundred grand from the name, image and likeness. No,
he just wants to be treated well enough, like a
guy that won a Heisman Trophy for a school that
didn't give out the other numbers of guys that won,
But yet they're giving out this one. Maybe no one
want I can't believe no one's wanted number nine since
they've shown up in Joe Burrow's time, Right, can't believe
no one wanted to wear Billy Cannon's number twenty for

the past seventy years. Oh, by the way, how great
of a football name is Cannon?

I mean more guy than Cannon's one of the greatest
names ever. So, like, how many more guys were out
there that wanted those numbers that, for one reason another
LSU said no to. But Brian Kelly was there. I'm
not gonna do it. Lane Kiffin, you know, could give
a crap about anything that doesn't involve two words Lane
or Kiffin, so you know he's not gonna care about it.

So that's why this could have been solved so easily,
and I hope that it's solved more easily now that
because this is just so incredibly messy. And now you
have one of your two most famous alums that wants
to sue you and is now you're at odds with him,
and you look bad because anybody that goes to LSU,
that's the superstars going, Wow, this is how they're gonn
treat their former players here, Like it's like free agency

teams players go and say okay, because you get players
that are gonna say, hey, I like the fact they're
giving DJ picking his number. Many other players going, man,
I don't like the fact this guy won the Heisman
Trophy and they're treating them like, yeah, you're not doing
anything for us. Man, We're not doing So there's so
many things that could have been solved in this for
this not to be a stupid story. This is a
knucklehead story that became a front page story all day.

So ham handed on several levels. Wait hand and good, okay,
but we talk about institutional control and minding your p's
and q's, you know, handing down line of success or whatever.
It's like, hey, we made a promise to Jaden whatever
that might have been. Maybe you didn't, maybe it was

Heisman winner. It should be there because look, he won

bit and I've heard him do it before, but it
was the bit he did with Jimmy Kimmel, and he
was talking about, you know, getting your flowers and your
number and retiring numbers whatever, and he goes, you know,
if it's up in the rafters, they don't talk about
me again except on like an old timer's day or
when I'm gone. I'm paraphrasing, obviously, he goes. But when

Cede Lamb goes up and make a catch, they talk
about Michael Irvin. If CD Lamb drops the ball, they'll
say Michael Irvin never did that, or Dez Bryant or
anybody else wearing the number eighty eight. He goes, So
I'm always getting my flowers, my recognition, I'm being remembered
for Jade Daniels. If it's something to that effect, it's

like you're a Heisman Trophy winner. You're going to be
celebrated every year at a minimum for the rest of
your life. Now again with LSU, I mean, Kiffin's one thing.
Brian Kelly not exactly warm and fuzzy and a guy
that a lot of people cheer for. Around the business.
So whatever promises and history he had, right, you take

it all in. Whoever's writing the checks and running the
institution needs to be mindful of these things, just like
you are with hiring all of these middle managers and
up to make sure your NIL is administered properly and
everything else. Here you're talking about Jade and Daniels and

making sure you don't burn that bridge because you've had
how many XLSU guys couldn't get to a microphone or
their headset or a podcast or video fast enough and
watching guys take sides on this. The cannibalization of it
is just terrible for the university.

jersey number. Pete, this whole thing to me, seemed like
it was so avoidable. You know, where do you come

The Twitter machine nowadays is that, like in the past,
you would go to Twitter and you would just say,
all right, there's some nuance here. You know, there's some
you know, arguments from both sides, all kind of stuff.

Assume that everything on Twitter is trash and it's bad,
stupid people saying dumb, stupid things. So when I saw
the Jayden Daniels saying, I'm like, all right, this is overblown.
This is people overreacting or for some reason they don't
like Dingy Daniels, and you know, okay, so the poor
guy's getting trashed here, and then you start diving deep,
in deeper into it's like the dudes mad over the

number five, like like okay, like I really, Jayden like
got a lot of stuff to worry about there. I'm
sure it's his agents. I'm sure it's you know, people
are as handlers or things like this. But like in
the dumbest off season in the history of college football,
with every single story being more boring and useless than

the last, like this just took it to a whole
other level. This is just like who cares? Like really,
Jade Daniels, you're gonna sew lsu for like the heir
replica heisman and name, image and likeness and all this
other kind of stuff, which, all right, seriously kicked the
ball off already, Let's get this thing going.

Mendoza is someone who you look for certain things and
and everything. He looked like he had tonight going going
for him.

Are you on board that.

Mendoza is you know? Is he the next great quarterback
of the NFL? Number one pick for a reason in
the sky's limit for him?
Speaker 7 (21:38):
When was not the top of your head. Give me
the last number one overall quarterback pick, which been just
totally awesome for the team that drafted him. I mean,
maybe Caleb, I mean to a certain except, but I'm
talking like like next level. This is the guy. If
you're to say, who are the top five to six, seven,

eight quarterbacks in the NFL right now, how many of
them went Number one to the team that drafted him,
like Stafford obviously went number one, but I was the
Detroit you know, Drake may No, he wasn't a number
one overall pick. Mahomes wasn't a number one. Josh Allen
was a number one. So you're really kind of fucking
history here to stay.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
Burrow is the only one. And he's the guy that
comes to mind. Yeah, and he was.
Speaker 7 (22:21):
Out for most of the last year, you know, but
even you know, but again keeps on going between Hurts
and Lamar and Jad and dangles obviously and like anyway,
but I think he's going to be one of those guys,
at least very early on, who's going to be like
awesome fantasy player as long as you don't need to
care about interception. Like he's gonna be the guy who

puts up a jillion yards of game and they lose
closed but you can see where he just can can
kind of light it up a little bit. I think
he's going to be just fine in this I actually
sort of like parts of this quarterback class. I don't
like Ty Stimpson. I wait to see what he's going
to do, but I was never a fan of his
come not Alabama, especially going as early as he did.
(23:03):
But I was a Carson Becks fan. I think he
showed it off in the Hall of Fame game. He
got his the River or whatever, and you know it
was out tonight. Felt like I kind of like he
was going to be the guy he was. There was
a time where he was the presumptive number one pick
versus his shoulder was a little bit off that arm strength.
But it would have been a different narrative if if
old Carson put another six inches under that throw in
(23:25):
the National Championship, Miami wins the national title, we probably
have a different narrative about Carson Beck and the Doza
just off on the one throw. But I liked him
a lot. And then look what we saw in that
Hall of Fame game again, James King, you know, out
of Georgia Tech.

He was great.

I mean, I know he was going up against guys
who are gonna be working at Appleby's next week, but
like he showed us the poise. And that's what these
college quarterbacks are because with nil in the extra years
of eligibility, they come in sharp. These are grown men
who know what they're doing and at the very least
they're going to be compotit right out of the gate.

Hey, I got sixty three points in that Hall of
Fame game. I'm I celebrated every damn one of them.

Tell me you are not that is you talk about

It took a very very last place, and if we
saw it. You can have ties in the post in

You know, and Allerer he was fine too. He was
starting to look okay. Last year and then he got
her and it got.

It got lost in the shuffle too, because his meltdown
games were always kind of seismic in on massive stages,
Like he was really good two years ago, but he
had a one really bad throw against Notre Dame and
the playoffs, and that was that's kind.

Of what you remember. And you know, the scouts are
human just like everyone else.

For as much as they can kind of attach themselves from.

Uh, you know, one play here or there and see
the bigger picture, and it's hard to kind of do
that and see all right in the much moment of
his career. He missfires like that and the fact that
he was around for forever and he got hurt and Pence,
they faltered. It was just kind of bad energy around
at her. But he remember, there's a he's got all
the tools, he's got the size, he's got his arm strength,

he's got everything else in place. And yeah, he showed
like he's all right a little. But again, these early
preseason games, they're going against guys who aren't going to
be in the league again. So you know, as long
as they're just okay and just chow at the moment,
not too big from them, they can complete their mid
range passes. Yeah, that's what they're supposed to do.

he's been in college. But I mean he hasn't played
in many games. But we watched tonight that Anthony Richardson
played pretty well. Though obviously his future is a backup
behind Daniel Jones. But he's still young enough if you

want to do the whole Sam Donald Young, Sam Donald Jung.
I mean, he just didn't play enough in college. Pete, like,
I look at Richardson and I go, man, that's a
decision that I look back three years ago and say,
who That's something that I think teams really should have
saw back then, that he didn't play enough football. I mean,
can he still be a guy that has some sort
of NFL future as a starter somewhere somewhere.
Speaker 7 (26:49):
I mean, but that you kind of spoke to it.
I mean, first of all, it's really really hard to
be a good NFL quarterback.
Speaker 5 (26:56):
I mean, look at the just sometime you can you
can Google or whatever, and look it up and say
just say, you know, give me the first round draft picks,
you know, quarterback, and you're gonna see like name after
name a player.
Speaker 7 (27:08):
It's like, oh, well that didn't work. Well, that really
didn't work, and all got the blame gabbers and Blake
Bortles and you know, just you know, killing Smith and
just on and on and on. These guys who have
all the tools, and it's it's rare that you have
a superstar quarterback. That's why they keep he kept keep
trying to find them. You hope someone else can develop them.
And that's going to be the question this year about
(27:29):
Tie Simpson because he didn't play all that much and
the Rams are going to assume that, oh, you're one
back twins away from your super Bowl team meeting Ty
Simpson to be your guy. Well, you know, we only
played ten minutes a quarterback at Alabama. So when it
comes to Richardson, all the tools are just still there.
I mean, he's just got the the size to it.
(27:50):
But we saw this, you know, and it depends on
the quarterback. Sometimes these guys just aren't sharp from the start,
and that we saw with arch manding last year where
It's like he he needed the game to slow down
for him a little bit. And then as the year
went on, people kind of stopped watching Texas, but you
could see Arch starting to make better and better decisions,
and all of a sudden he got better as a
(28:11):
year ago. You only get those kind of things when
you're in college and you get those chances. At the
point of going to college to begin with is that
you know, you learn stuff and get better at your crap. Well,
but you know, if you're Richardson, yeah, if you're gonna
be a top top five, top ten picks, get in
the league, get paid generational wealth and all right, go on.
So like you thought, he just one, he got hurt
(28:31):
too much until he just wasn't quite ready. And so
either you're gonna you know, think or swimming in for
three years before everything slows down, or you get what
you got here where you know, Daniel Jones comes in
and he's just not going to get those rips. So
he's gonna have to get someone's gonna have to commit
to him somewhere to give him that shot.

Pete, are you you know in the best shape of
your life. You got two weeks until we get to
kick off of North Carolina TCU. I mean, what's the
training regimen at the computer? And uh, you know, don't
skip leg day.

Actually, the God's honest truth, I am used to staying
up till three am in the morning. I've gotten in
that groove. Now I've got to sleep, prove on and
yes that I am working out now because the football
season fifteen is going to hit very very fast, and
I'm trying to keep it off as dave it off
as long as humanly possible. And I'm trying to get
the mental part about this now. The guy I'm trying

to speak of quarterbacks, I'm really trying to get Jerron
Caave so go pol it tellity because he's going to
be the number one draft pick overall in twenty twenty seven,
so it's actually twenty eight, not just next year, the
year after, so I'm trying to get his name down.
