(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Hello, Welcome inside our
three of The Jason Smith Show with my big friend
Mike Harmon. Heyo, coming up, we have two quarterback battles
with big developments on. I'm gonna get to that coming
up in about twenty didn't think we'd have that present

(00:45):
going on tonight. Yeah. One of stories. I hate to say,
I told you so. The other story, Yeah, I hate
to say I told you so. You don't even know
what the second story is. I know what one of
them is. You know, but you don't know. Maybe you do,
maybe you don't. Maybe it's about the Jets, all right,
it's not about the Jets. Maybe it's about the jet
it was. It's not about the Jets because even then

(01:05):
it would mean Flacker was the lead. Again. Maybe maybe
that's the conversation is Joe White is taking dude. Dude,
I gotta be honest with you. Mike White may get
cut because he is not playing well Mike White. It
could be over for Mike White. It could be over.
He's not he's it's not been good. It was good
last night, Mike White. It's not been good. And it's
too bad because I bought a present that I thought

(01:27):
you were gonna love if he was gonna play. But
it doesn't work unless he plays, stays on your If
he gets cut and gets picked up by the Titans,
it's not gonna work. For it's trash and I just
burn it. It's gonna be awful. So again, a couple
of big NFL stories coming up in about twenty minutes.
But shock waves through the NBA today when it was

(01:50):
announced that Kevin Durant has made up with the Nets
and they're gonna try to go who He didn't make
up with anybody, he could still be mad. Sat in
a room with his agent and Joe Sigh and Shawn Marks,
and they decided we're going to go forward together. Do
you think they did so happily? It all right. It

(02:12):
doesn't matter how much they hate each other when it failed.
This is like he usually doesn't end well for you.
This is like War of the Roses acceptance about basketball.
I mean this is and I mean the movie, not
like all the way back in the you're giving a
history Lass, that's the next Las. Let's go back to
the year seventeen fifty seven. Uh it was something d

(02:36):
oo economics, voodoo economics. It was high. Uh So, Yes,
the the story today that Kevin Durant's going to move
forward with the Nets, despite the fact he said he
wanted out, despite the fact he wanted the GM and
the head coach fired Kevin Durant. Now, yeah, go forward

(02:56):
because mainly the Nets couldn't find anybody to trade. They
couldn't And this is the reality of Kevin Durant that
he's got to accept. That's got to piss him off.
You are now valued lower than Brandon Ingram, Desmond Bain,
Jaren Jackson Jr. All these players that teams you were

(03:20):
offered to said we're not giving them up in a deal.
Every trade offer that was out there for Kevin Durant
involved players, draft picks, a combination. The best one was
the Celtics because it involved the best player. They made
Jalen Brown available in a trade for Kevin Durant, and now, crap,
we gotta go back and make up with Jalen Brown

(03:41):
because now the Nets are keeping him. So that was
Jayson Tatum. I think did a good job of sucking
in the in the finals to take to take the
heat offer like you're wrong. Point was in the aftermath.
This is a guy who's spoken as highly of Jalen

(04:02):
Brown as he possibly can when that Brown had carried
because I need I need somebody else because I sucked
in the NBA Finals. I was trying to give the
guy some credit. I still feel good about that. I
still feel bad about the Jayson Tatums. I feel shame.

(04:23):
But Kevin Durant is not the prize that he was
a couple of years ago. He has done a lot
of damage to his reputation. He's not a leader, he's
not a guy that stays healthy, and he has not
been able to win in Brooklyn three years ago, Kevin
Durant saying I want out. Every NBA team that thought
they were a contender is coming up and they're breaking

(04:45):
up their team to get him. Who do you want
off our team? It's basically, you're going shopping and tell
us what you want. At the end we'll ring you
up and we get Kevin Durant and you can leave
it all that. But this, you know, all the teams
we've heard Phoenix said, yeah no, and we're not going
to make that trade. Ami Heat No, we're not gonna
make the trade. The Pelicans, Yeah, I know, We're not
gonna trade Brandon Ingram, the Grizzlies, Noah did. We're not

(05:06):
gonna trade Bane or jack and Jackson's out for like
half the year now, We're not gonna do any of that.
This is where Kevin Durant and how far he has fallen.
We told you a month ago, watch out. This Kevin
Durant trade sweepstakes isn't gonna be what you're thinking is.
And and congratulations to everybody else who's on during the
day on TV show saying hey, you know what, Kevin
Durant is not really sought after a rabbi like, yeah, gee,

(05:28):
we told you that a month ago. Congratulations, welcome to
the bandwagon. Uh, this is just the reality of Kevin
Durant being thirty four years old and injury prone and
not having a good last couple years and not being
a leader. All right, It's one thing to be a
hired gun. If you're gonna come in, you're gonna play,
and then you move on. When you're someone that's going

(05:50):
to sort of be involved enough that you could tear
the team apart a bit, that's tougher, right. And Kevin Durant,
you're giving him money to commit, dude, be a lead.
He's not a leader. He's never been a leader. And
and when he was young enough, and when he was younger,
and when he was better and healthier, you got away
with it because he was always on a team that

(06:10):
had other stars on it, he didn't have to lead.
In Golden State, he just had to be their best player, right,
So that's what he did. He was their best player.
Didn't have to lead. Draymond led, Steph led, Clay led.
The team was loaded. That was that he didn't need
to lead. But now here it is in Brooklyn, you
gotta lead. You and Kyrie, oh boy, those two guys
that would never pick to lead anything. So yeah, he's
he's took a hit. And when you can't be healthy

(06:32):
and you're not a leader, and we're wondering just what
your impact would be on a team. It's not the
teams don't want Kevin Durant, it's I'm only gonna give
you so much for him. Just because you think he's
great and you expect to get more doesn't mean I'm
crazy and and gonna do this. So that's why they
kept him. Because the Nets tried for a while and

(06:53):
they saw none of the offers they wanted. We're going
to be up to their satisfaction. So they said, okay,
let's try to go forward with Kevin Durant. Kevin, we
can't get you to a team you want to get to.
I'm sorry, but we can. So what if we went
forward together? Yeah, okay, Now it's gonna last forever. No,
but for now. This is why he's back, because they
couldn't find a trade because he's not sought after. Well,

(07:14):
it's run after running parallel. We we talked about a
lot of these different stories cross sports. Go into the
contract negotiations and fights that are happening across the NFL,
and everybody keeps framing it right. Wide receivers were all,
here's what Christian Kirk got, Okay, and then Deshaun Watson
got his deal. Well, this is what he got just
because those franchises decided to push in all their chips

(07:40):
to make sure they got a guy Jacksonville. They had
to after that disastrous Now let's let's bringing a guy
just shy of a thousand yards. We can roll up
after overpay because we're Jacksonville and we rolled through with
Deshaun Watson. He had crossed off the Browns on his list,
so to get him back in. Oh yeah, now it's
all guarantee to look at the crazy dollars. Same thing

(08:03):
here is you start getting into the trade market just
because the Nets decided to give him a new four
year deal which takes about the thirty eight. Not everybody's
Lebron is gonna age the same way. Dominant when you're
on the court. But are he's missing a quarter of
the season. Now you got Durant missing time. You've got
all this stuff they can say till they're blew in

(08:24):
the face. The back and forth on Twitter or whatever else,
doesn't matter. Not but it's gonna be enter into the
equation a little bit as to where he's at. And
we get into trying to make a deal. You've got
to make the salaries match up. You add all these
component parts, and if you are a team that thinks
you're close bringing in Kevin Durant, you've got to give

(08:45):
up too much going back the other way. So if
you think he's going to be the guy leading you,
what's what's around him? Because to your point, going back
several years ago, he had to go to a team
that had all those other guys to win and get
over doesn't mean you can't be I thing, doesn't mean
you can't be near the top of a conference. And
even with the nets a couple of years ago, if

(09:06):
he's wearing different shoes, maybe you have a different tails. Legitimately,
think about that one shot might change some of how
this all falls out. The way the world works sometimes
man the the butterfly effect as it comes to shoe
size in the NBA. But where you have it now?
You mentioned Denver, you mentioned Phoenix in theory, the assets,

(09:29):
but also chemistry. The young team's Memphis and New Orleans
said well, we gotta get rid of good players and
upset the minutes, and now he's gonna be the focal point.
How does this really work? Because two days ago it
was the hot rumor of a Memphis could compare him
up and immediately became the No, they're not going to
give up these two players, so beat it. But it

(09:51):
became k d and John Moran. It would that work necessarily? No,
I don't think so. I don't know that that was
the match made in heaven other than for te V
ratings for opening Yeah, Christmas, okay, but for that big
thing that you know joh and Draymond talked into existence

(10:14):
going back and forth on social media. But just to
the point of, if you've got to give up considerable
present assets, draft picks, take the ball, here's a bag
of them, run wild. But if I got to give
up a couple of guys that are the nucleus of
the squad that I have that is competitive, I gotta
blow it all up. And then wonder if less than

(10:35):
six months later he still wants to be here. Like
that's the thing, Like you don't have a guarantee of
any kind of kind of continuity with him in the building.
Might be a great player, but the unrest of is
he gonna tired of my coach? By GM is ancillary players,
where he's living, how he's living, All of these things
becomes a headache A lot of teams are gonna say

(10:58):
I'm out on for that. Think about this part of it.
How it went from the big market teams that Katie
wanted to go to, Phoenix right top fifteen market, Miami,
top ten market now they said no. They bowed up
pretty quick. Boston, okay, top ten market, No, they couldn't
get it done. All right, New Orleans it's a little

(11:19):
bit lower market like around market twenty now, didn't work there.
Memphis that's a little bit lower than that, didn't work
their big market. All the way down, they're saying, hey,
we're trying. We're trying, Katie, we're trying, but we're not
getting anybody. We're not getting anybody for you, so we
can't do this. We went big market to the teams
you wanted to go to, they said no. Then we
went to teams that were interested, but basically said yeah,

(11:40):
I'll take it, but I'm not gonna I'll give you
a bunch of picks, but i'm not gonna give you
good players because because we want to keep our players.
We want to keep Baine and Jackson and and and
Brandon Ingram. We gotta keep these guys. Wait, but you're
getting me, Yeah, we know what we're getting. We're not
going to trade these guys, but we know what we're getting.
That is a very loaded statement. We know what you
are as a player. But all this other stuff, Brooklyn

(12:03):
did everything to accommodate him, right, It wasn't working with Harden.
What do they do? Ship him out? Then he can't
and the team can't And nobody could convince Ben Simmons
to play, whether he's injured or not. A whole secondary part.
But there didn't seem to be a push to get
back on the court at all. And I hope he's okay,
and I'd love to see him back on the court.

(12:24):
He was fun to watch and then it all went
asunder in the layoup. That wasn't right. But we we
look at every move that Brooklyn has done has been
to appease and placate him, and he's still not happy.
How many other franchise, right, how many other franchises that
are struggling to be relevant, struggling to try to push

(12:47):
to the upper echelon of either conference. They're gonna bring
on a bunch of question marks? Right? Is then maybe
turning the corner right Memphis, How excited were we were
watching Memphis. Have we ever been excited watching Memphis? No?
New Orleans. They had that run in the second half
of the year, and they get Zion back. So do

(13:08):
you want to upset that? Yeah? All right, you get
rid of Ingram and now you got Zion, who's a
big question, and you got Durant, who's a big question
for other reasons, if you make that trade right when
you're starting to become relevant and at least for the moment,
the whispers about needing to move out of town and
all those other things had been put to rest. Yeah,
we still talked about that crazy psychotic giant baby costume

(13:33):
that runs around and then horrid pelican they had years ago.
But the point was you were talking about them as
a team on the comb and then all of a
sudden it becomes a al right, do we blow this
up to bring in this guy who couldn't be happy
when he was given everything in Boklyn, He's given everything everywhere. Hey,
you're stay in Golden State, You'll win title aftertime. Nope,

(13:54):
not good enough. Don't original desire to leave was because
he was called Mr Unreliable. How I wish I had
a copy of that newspaper to frame on my wad
ha been at Oklahoma City. Nope, gotta get out of
Golden State, Nope, gotta get out of Brooklyn, Nope, gotta
stay in Brooklyn. He's he's someone that in the pantheon

(14:15):
of superstars and and guys who have We talked about
this last night, the level of celebrity of players that
can dictate certain moves like Tom Brady, Roger Clemens, even
even Kyrie who can dictate but when they want to play,
when they don't want to play, where they want to
go to practice. He thought he was one of those guys,
and he's not. And and the reason he's not is
all because of him. It's not anything. It's not well,

(14:38):
the team didn't play with him. No, In the last
couple of years, you went from Kevin Durant best player
in the NBA to Kevin Durant not sure how healthy
he's going to be in how many games he's going
to play if he plays in fifty five games a year.
Now you're kind of lucky that that he's there. Has
he shown that he can lead when he's the best
player on the team. He is not, so immediately anyone

(15:00):
who interested in is trading for him, says we can't
have him be our best player, which means we have
to hold on to our best players. We can't trade
player X because we can't trade Jayson Tatum for Kevin
Durant because he would be the de facto leader and
he's not a leader. Okay, So so that hurts um
being able to to be a player that you can
rely on for the playoffs. He's just not He's just

(15:22):
he's just not. You talk Mr unreliable. It's a much
different opinion of him. But the very famous Oklahoma City
UH newspaper headline a few years ago that he got
them to redacte. Hey, I'm upset you wrote that about me. No,
but now he's Mr Unreliable for a different reason. We
can't rely on him to lead and be a great
player and be healthy. You can't do it. And it's
I've stated and I've been true to this all the

(15:45):
way through player agency, coaches, whatever, whatever you do for
a living out there, wherever you're listening, we appreciate you.
We love you. UH Evangelized, Tell friends, family about the show,

But if you want a job hop and you want
to chase your dream. Right my high school yearbook quote
I was the nerd. I quoted Elvis, you gotta follow

(16:08):
that dream wherever that dream may lead, and then I
sang it really loud as they put it in this
Elvis Costellos, and I started seeing Veronica's It's in your
favorite cheer ahead and still that was like his comeback,
come back, because I thought it was funny of Imperial Bedroom.

(16:30):
It's Veronica anyway, The point being chase all you want,
just recognize at some point the buck stops and that
there's going to be the future employer that says, why
do you why do you change a job every eighteen months?
Why what are you running? It says you left in
the spring of last year, and then you left another
job in the summer of this year. Why it's legitimately

(16:53):
at some point it becomes the alright, tell me why
you need the constant reinvention and changing and no, not
that your Madonna mixing decade to decade. No, no, no no,
tell me why you need this new job and to
hop between gigs in the same industry or bouncing around
trying to search for your soul. What's missing? And that's

(17:13):
where Kevin Durant is in this process. You've got a
lot of teams going. We don't want to be the

for a while. It's next Fox. Be sure to catch

the obvious question, Ronica or Betty? Oh? Ronica was she?

(19:05):
She was too? She? No, I wasn't a Veronica too
in your face? Oh uh? But he's not gonna like
that front. I don't know about that front um. But
Barney was always worried about Betty finding out schemes. So
I'm gonna say, Wilma, do you like my old Barney impression?

(19:28):
Like the very first Bart not know the very first Barney,
but he's not gonna like that front. I don't know
about that front. But it's like everybody Harry Carey impression
that Will Ferrell did as opposed to actually studying the
source material. I don't know about that front. I just
like when Fred and Barney were out having a cigarette,

(19:51):
they would smoke. Hey, we have cartoon characters smoked stones
for Wisden, Like cartoon characters are smoking. Yeah, that's a
different time, man, Different times. I do the bedrock twizt twig,
but it's not gonna like I don't know about the front.
I don't know front. Uh, I don't know about the front. Front.

(20:12):
I don't know Front. I don't know Front. Do you
think Betty was overcompensating for the fact that she was
up to her own shin? Just try that out of head.
I don't know his friend, but he was out drinking
like last night. Friend. She comes up like two o'clock
in the morning, Front, so done, just grabs the grabs
the blanket, go sleeps on the couch. Front. I don't know,
And she's texting with these guys friend and just texted
friend on this on the stone phone front. I don't

(20:33):
know how she got it, but she's texting and I
saw and she said it like pictures of herself down
to these other guys. I don't know about the front
blow whoa, I don't know about that. Front just escalated quickly.
The new flint Stones. She's sending pictures out front. I
don't know even she send a couple to me, Bonny,
I don't know about that. I had a joke that
even would work in safe harbor. So we're just gonna

(20:55):
want to delete those pictures. Front. Don't me a favorite friend,
dont don't show him around the quarry friend friend front
my favorite And it's a little dude that's getting nice.
He's just link the picture out. What's he doing? And
he can't do what He's got a drawn crowd, So
he's chis linking it out on the giant stones. Yeah,
but he's not gonna like that front. Uh. Jason Smith

(21:17):
show with my best friend Mike Harmon, much different flint stones,
much different flint stones. Two quarterback decisions that could allegedly
be made soon. One looks like it is one. Yes,
that's always my favorite phrase. Mike Tomlin Steeler's head coach

(21:38):
said his quarterback battle will be decided after the last
preseason game. And I hate to say I told you so,
but this may be a the bold prediction I have
had this year that has had the most I don't
want to say facts, but I've told you exactly how
it's going to go a lot along the row, even

(22:01):
though I've had the shouldn't. Yeah, but look, hey, it
is what it is. A month ago, I told you
Kenny Pickett is gonna be the starting quarterback of the Steelers.
How they're gonna slow play it during camp. Drabinsky and
Rudolph are barely gonna play. It's a fixed competition to
see that. As long as Pickett can handle the NFL,
he's going to start. He was really good in his

(22:22):
first game with the threes. Okay, great, got a big ovation.
The fans love him. That's great. He performed second game
he played with the twos, he was just as good.
Other guys are getting very small opportunities because Kenny Pickett's
getting a chance to win the job. We know who Drabinsky,
as we know who Mason Rudolph is. I told you
this is how it's going to go. As long as

(22:43):
the game is not too big for him. Kenny Pickett's
gonna be the starter. And guess what, one more good game.
Kenny Pickett's gonna be the starter. And it doesn't matter
that you can go from Drubinsky to pick No, Pickett
can win the job. And if he needs to sit,
you can go with Drabinsky. Alright, you can do it.
This is not where ah it's gonna be too hard.
You don't have two great quarterbacks here that you're worried

(23:05):
about insulting one. You have one that's been a backup
that knows his job in the NFL is going to
be as a combo bridge quarterback backup. So if Kenny
Pickett wins the job, guess what. Kenny Pickett's gonna win
the job. Kenny Picket's gonna be the starting quarterback of
the Steelers week one. Yeah. I think it comes back
to the the flow, right. Do you go against the
defending a f C champions in week one when you

(23:28):
got the Bangles flowing in and you're on the road.
Do you put the rookie in and just be hey,
trial by fire as it goes, or do you want
Trabinsky in to start because that offensive line stinks, So
one part of the Steelers. Everything else is fine. Right,
you got weapons for days, You got a good defense,

(23:49):
maybe not a great defense in the pantheon of Steelers history,
but you've got a good defense, got a good running game,
Nag Harris is there, right, catch the ball out of
the backfield. All of those things are. But you've got
a guy who might be a pinata back there. That's
the only thing I hate. I caution because one of
the arguments people like, well, if you know pick it

(24:09):
starts and then you have to go to Trabinsky, you
might lose him. Then he was never your guy, right
if mentally a bad outing or two and getting the
hook pulled on him is the thing that's going to
destroy him. It wasn't gonna take long to destroy him anyway,
all right. He was always gonna be a guy that
you were going to struggle with and every year were

(24:30):
gonna be like, is he the guy the guy got
with Pittsburgh. We always know they're in the hunt. Do
they get over No, they'll settle for just above mediocrity
with some regularity that some teams aspire to that. No,
And I love the job Mike Tomlin does you've got
the streak, you've got all of those things. That's that's

(24:51):
all fine and good, but now you're trying to figure
out how do you get over And I don't think
either guy's a world beat or Trabisky intrigues me being
away from the Bears. But he's got the same issues,
same offensive line problems. They're in theory Canada can call plays,
But is he any better than what you had in Chicago?

(25:12):
Maybe maybe not, but picket starting if it fails, yeah,
you can go the other way. Just traditionally, and the
Steelers being a traditional kind of franchise and Mike Tomlin
being a traditional kind of coach in most respects, except
he's been able to handle how should we say, outlandish

(25:37):
personalities perhaps better and navigating those and knowing when I
don't know how well he's handled he's had to handle it.
No, no no, but it's every year somebody does something. But
the point is as well as you can And realizing
the cast of characters that you had led by Roethlisberger
and a declining Ben Roethlisberger that was getting too long

(25:58):
in the tooth to where you couldn't complete a forward pass.
Now that's the other thing with Pickett in terms of
his average depth on his completions five point five yards
or thereabouts, which is really where you were at with
Ben Roethlisberger last year. So you're not exactly advancing. However,
whatever the plays uh that you're running right now, the
success factor, at least in the preseason has been an

(26:21):
awful lot of Yet, and if I could just throw
it up and let George Pickens go get it, I'm
gonna have myself a couple of times where I get
to just raise my hand in victory as he sprints
to daylight. But it doesn't matter how far he throws.
It just matters. I'm gonna win the job. And it's
it's it's happening. And it's like I said, every every
competition is fixed to a point. And because the coaches

(26:43):
desire a certain outcome now, they're not married to it.
And Mike Tomlin's not married to well, I really want Kenny. No,
it's if Kenny Pickett's not good, we're not gonna go
with him, right, We're gonna go with with Mitchell Trabisky
and he's gonna be the guy. But if we expect
Kenny Pickett to play all and if he does play well,
it's kind of how we're pushing it. We're we're we're
because if they really wanted dr Whisky to be the quarterback,

(27:04):
he'd be playing more. He's in a new offense, he's
in his first year. You'd think he would want some
kind of playing time. But instead, what's happening during it
Picket's getting all the time and the other quarterbacks are
getting split. None of them are getting a chance to shine.
And that's part of the fixed competition because if Drabinsky
plays with the starters and plays the first quarter plus
and leads two touchdown drives, and then Kenny Pickett comes

(27:26):
in and plays well, well, guess what, it's hard to say,
Kenny Picket out played Mitchell Drobisky. So that's why, Hey,
you're only gonna get to go three out of six
for twenty five yards and that's it. Your work is
done for the night. Now let's get a long, extended
look at Kenny Pickett is. Now, with that going on,
we have what's happening in Seattle, which is nothing. Because

(27:48):
Pete Carroll said today the Seahawks will take quote all
the time. We need to settle on a starting quarterback
Geno Smith is in the lead right now. But Drew Lock,
Who's gonna get to lay a lot in Friday's preseason
finale against the Cowboys. Uh, he says, we have all
the time. We have two and a half weeks between
that game against the Cowboys and the season opener against

(28:10):
Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos. This is yet another
bit of evidence that shows you that the Seahawks are
completely tanking, because at some point you want to be
able to say, this is our quarterback, we're going forward,
we're game planning, you're in with the ones we're going for. Look,
you had Mike tom Will going all right, this is
gonna go as far as it can. But right after
the preseason finale, that's when we're gonna name our quarterback

(28:33):
and here's and here's Pete Carroll going we can wait
as long as possible. Why Because they don't care about winning.
They don't care about winning this year. They care about
tanking and picking high enough where if they don't finish
in the top one or two to get Bryce Younger
c J. Strout, they can use some of those picks
that they got for Russell Wilson to be able to
move up to get their next quarterback in the decade.
If they had any desire to win, this would be

(28:57):
something that would be taken care of by now. But
he said, well, the time in the world doesn't matter.
They both stink, so it doesn't matter, and I can
play both at the same time. It's not gonna matter.
They both think we have nothing to rush into you.
You circle back to the point I was gonna make.
If you really wanted to win, these would not be
your quarterbacks in camp. It's really no one other analysis

(29:20):
needed as as it were. You're looking at a squad
and I've seen some people really do their man. This
is the reach. It's not hot take nonsense, because they're
not just screaming and scream but trying to create and
fabricate nuance to say that the Seahawks could be solid
where DK Metcalf breaking all receiving records, Rashad Penny is

(29:43):
gonna stay healthy, Kenneth Walker is gonna get a new
groin or whatever the hell's going on with him, and
suddenly they're gonna be Marshawn Lynch next level combined. Are
we putting together voltron at the quarterback position where these
guys are the lay and and you build on top.
You bring back Gino Torretta had to verify because I

(30:05):
remember him as a member, but he's there. Maybe Warren
Moon comes back, Steve Largen is gonna pair up with
DK Metcap on the outside and with Tyler Lockett there. No,
they're a flawed squad in so many respects, and for
Pete Carroll, it's pretty obvious what they're doing. But you've
got a number of skill position guys that are pretty good.

(30:25):
And that's the thing that if you're a Seahawks fan,
you've got to be looking around going, hey, wait what
I mean? I don't know how great the running backs
are gonna be, because right now health is a huge issue.
Carson retired and you move forward, and so it's clear
they want to start rebuilding in the vein of those
two thousand eleven, two thousand twelve teams as they can

(30:46):
pile up picks and start rolling and show that they
still have the acumen and ability to do so. But
in the interim, you've got one lost year coming up.
No matter how they want to tap dance and spin it,
you know, give him the old razzle dazzle as it
were because Pete Carroll could pull that suit off. M
he could be sure if he couldn't notice how his

(31:08):
mouth never moves. Almost Dun dun, dun, dunt dun dune.
Where did you come from? USC? Will you win? Now?
Not at all? Why did you lead USC? The sanctions
were coming and I had to run out because things
were getting hot. Uh, they should, you know, the Seahawks,
they should just drive a tank onto the field before

(31:28):
every game this year. Just have it, just so everybody knows.
We're just driving this tank on the field. We're tanking.
We're taking this year. And the tank, you know, has
some has some explosion, shoot some cannonballs up in the air.
It would be fun. Well, photo ops outside so she
can still generate some cash. Oh yeah, pictures with the tank.
Here's the Seahawk tank. So it's still be kind of

(31:49):
like cars ye series. The tank exactly would be like
Sorge from Car. There you go. Now you're talking it
all ties together? People coming up next. Somebody's for sale.
I'll tell you what the future means for a couple

slash redeem rewards terms they do apply. I've got more
than a feeling that Brian Fenley's Padrectis are gonna lose again.
D J. I see that wild card spot slipping away. Uh,
the Angels are for sale. Probably woke up today and

(32:52):
saw the news and Artie Marino was on the team
since right after they won the World Series, proving there
is a bad time to buy a team. Buy some
right after the World Series, and they've been really irrelevant
since they made the playoffs a couple of times. Mike
Trout has like six postseason at bats and now he's
had enough and he is selling the team. Now, don't
cry for Artie Marino. He bought the team for hundred

(33:14):
and forty three million dollars and now it's worth about
two and a half billion, So he'll do just fine.
I'm not crying for Artie Marino. The price of beer
is gonna go up, though, whoever the new owner is,
parking is gonna be more difficult. I'm not gonna get
that sandwich to your seat in five minutes without Yeah,
that's gonna be tough. I really like going to Angels games.
But this is about more than just the Angels being

(33:36):
for sale, because there's gonna be a couple of big
things in a ramifications of this story. The first one
is this team is now worth about two point two
billion dollars, So someone or a conglomerate's gonna buy this.
Are they gonna want to come in with a team
that's not very good? And hey, wait, we're paying Mike
Trout five million dollars and we're paying show Hey o,

(33:58):
TONI no not doing now. Remember this is a theoretical
two point two billion dollars went for four point six
And I know the NFL is the you know, the
eight pound gorilla when we talk about these things, but
ball clubs don't come up for sale very often. I
think two point two is your starting point. I think
it'll go significantly higher. It'll be worth it'll, it'll, it'll

(34:21):
go from more. There's a bidding war for the Angels,
but no new team is gonna want to come in
saddle with a bad team and paying guys that kind
of money within the next calendar year. Sho, hey o,
Toni and Mike Trout will both be traded if the
team is sold, they will both be traded because no
one wants to come in with that kind of debt

(34:42):
when they're not going to be good. Don't you want
an asset? Don't you don't you want? I mean, and
I'm not talking about hey, we hold the the deed
to this over this bloated overdrawn account related to Anthony
Ren Don't I mean I'm talking or show heyo, Tony,
I'm talking box office. Uh, you allegedly would, but you

(35:06):
have a pretty good attendance and right now, but you're
gonna have to pay a lot of money to keep
these guys, and you're not you're not gonna say, well,
if this team and let's say you get two point
five billion for it, Hey, a billion dollars in salary
for the next fifteen years is on, you know, is
on these two? You only got a little time left
with Otani before he leaves. Anyway, if you sign him,

(35:28):
if you sign him, you because obviously I'm not paying it, no, no,
and he's he already told me he hates me. So
what they're gonna do is they're gonna get rid of
both of those players. So if just think about this,
you will be able to trade for Mike Trout and
show Heyo Tani in the next year. If this team
is sold, they will rebrand as a farm system team

(35:49):
where they're gonna try to bring players up and home
grow them and maybe compete that way. They're gonna be
like the A's South. That's what they're going to do.
And then sometime in the next seven or eight years
they will move because the new owner is gonna want
to come in and not be the number two team
in the market, always in the shadow of the Dodgers,
especially with the bright lights of Las Vegas beckoning. And

(36:11):
if I buy this team for two point five billion,
here I move in to Vegas, is it worth five billion?
All owners want the value of their franchises to go up.
And what's better if I stay in in l a
or in Anaheim, or if I somehow get to Vegas,
which they can't do till. Yeah, they could move any
they could move in southern California in the next few years,

(36:34):
but they can't move out of out of southern California
area until nine at least. So this will be a
slow play where they're just gonna exist as a as
a farm team type team for the next few years
and then they'll move when they can, because that's what's
gonna pump up the value of this team. I know
they have good attendance and and and that's great, but
you're talking about all right, forget about a tendance for

(36:57):
a second, what do I What am I going to
do to prove the I'm a great owner that I
can take this and make this kind of money on it. Yes,
it's about improving and maybe doubling the value of this franchise. Well,
as soon as you start picking up the prices, you know,
revenue in theory going up, you're looking at three point
two million people per year or they're about come through.

(37:17):
I think it's a fascinating case study to see who
comes to the table that wants to be part of
the bidding process, right, because then you'll start seeing something
perhaps about motivation just based on their geographic locales, as
it were Bryan Reynolds and Rob mclaney, they did. They
bought Wrexham, Now they're gonna buy the Maybe Disney gets

(37:39):
back in. I'm just kidding. They've got other things they
need to fix, but but it is a curiosity for
for that and and for those dominoes to fall in
Vegas is what Los Angeles was for football a few
years back, before the Rams and the Chargers eventually took
over l a UH and the Raiders moved off to Vegas.

(38:03):
There's your next ten years for the Angels. No Trout, Noahtani.
They're going to move. Big NBA story next on Fox
