(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Greetings and welcome inside
our three of The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. Hey about it, Where my goodness, my goodness,
the Los Angeles Rams pull out of victory where you

(00:48):
didn't think one was absolutely possible at all. It's one
thing to watch Tom Brady after sucking for fifty five
minutes and yelling at his teammates on the sideline like
he always does. Now he's mad all the time he
does these things. It's one thing to watch Tom Brady
take advantage of a lack of daisical Saints defense who

(01:09):
really didn't have the impetus to win. They thought they
had the game. It's one thing to see Brady go
down and have two touchdown drives in the final five
minutes to win a game. Because we've seen Brady do that,
it's quite another to see Baker Mayfield do it when
he's been with the team for a day and a
half and he's had thirty play Thirty plays is all
he had. Who I don't even know if he met

(01:32):
everybody on the team back tonight. Uh. And he goes
down in the fourth quarter with a sixteen to three
deficit and not only does he get a touchdown on
the board to make it sixteen ten, where you can say, Okay, hey,
there's a little bit of fire there at the end,
and maybe they can build on a little bit with
Baker Mayfield. Okay, that's fine, I get it. After the

(01:53):
Raiders can't get a first down and he takes over
from his two yard line, he leads the Rams with
no time him outs on a ninety eight yard touchdown drive.
There's a thirty yard touchdown to Van Jefferson with ten
seconds left to go to win this game. Yes, Raiders
gonna Raider, and oh my goodness, the Raiders, Raiders, Raiders, Raiders.
But I gotta give Baker Mayfield credit for winning this game. This.

(02:16):
When you see a game like this, you can see why.
This is why teams loved him. This is why everybody
wanted him, and he shot up draft boards with the
Browns five years ago. You get it after seeing this,
you see it. He just hasn't shown it enough. He
hasn't shown enough growth. He hasn't shown enough belief in
it himself as a quarterback to not want to weigh

(02:37):
in on stuff that didn't involve him being a quarterback.
He's had to learn, He's had to learn maturity, had
to learn a lot of things, and I don't know
that he learned any of those lessons. He lets let
go by the Panthers. But here he is with the
Rams and suddenly look at just all clicked in one day. Really,
if I'm Mayfield and I'm the Rams, look if I'm
Baker Mayfield, I have to understand at this point when

(02:58):
I'm with the team and I'm in a position to
see seed right. We talked about this with Mayfield in
the off season. What did I tell you was the
number one thing you should have done? Go to Tampa Bay,
get behind Tom Brady for a year. Get out of
everybody's consciousness. Is everybody's sick of you. Get out of
everybody's conscious We just watched you fail, you got replaced.
Learn what it means to be a quarterback. Know that

(03:18):
you can't weigh in on everything on social media. You
gotta just be a quarterback and be a leader and
lead by example. Not every time can you sit here
and say, oh, I don't know why Duke Johnson's complaining.
The way is, you can't just do that, right, Go
somewhere and learn, and then next year you'll get a chance,
whether it's with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of Tom Brady
Leaves or with another team that could give you a

(03:38):
Marcus Mariota type shot, where hey, you get most of
the season to show that you can be a starting
quarterback before losing your job if you don't play well,
which is what happened to Mariota today. But at least
you can go somewhere and get a chance to play
where you'll learn a lesson. Well, you'll learn a system,
and you'll be able to not just be thrown right
in and try to succeed. And that was the best
path for him. He didn't put himself in the best

(04:00):
position to succeed. Well. Here he is now with a
big as Bob Ross would say, it's a big happy accident. Oh,
there's no there's no mistakes, and it's just a happy accident.
It's a big, happy accident. He winds up with the
Rams and here he is with again about a day
and a half of football and thirty plays and he
orchestrates a win and it's all on his right arm

(04:20):
in the final five minutes. At this point, if you're
a Baker Mayfield, you have to stop and say, Okay,
this is where I need to be and it may
never get any better than this this. Maybe hey, let's
can can can we work on something where I'm the
quarterback here, not just for this year, but for next
year or two years. Let let me do it. Deal.
I am here now in a place where I really
want to be, So let's work on something because I

(04:42):
want to stay. Because the Rams are happy as hell.
Look at this. We sign a guy off the street
who was a number one overall pick, and look at
what he's done. If Matthew Stafford's truly done, we can
go to Baker Mayfield. Be in a place where you
can succeed, envision that and recognize that. Recognize when you're
in a position to succeed, because that's the biggest thing
in anybody's career. Know when you're in a position you're

(05:03):
gonna succeed, No, when you're not right, and just that
sometimes has nothing to do with your talent level, but
it has to do with the belief they have in you,
where you are in a certain situation, and and and
where your co workers are, how your boss's value. You
understand what you are in a position to succeed. He
was not in one with the Cleveland Browns. They let
him go. Was he in one with Carolina? They put

(05:26):
him in one for a little bit, But did they
really because they put him in to start a quarterback
when he barely knew the playbook. So they liked him.
But let's get him out there. And what happened he
wound up failing. So he in the end, he wasn't
in a position to succeed. Now here's the Rams. He
wins a game, he's gonna play like me the rest
of the season. He's got the Rams believing in him.
The l A loves him now and people love Baker

(05:47):
Mayfield more they love Lebron and a D right now,
it's because you know, a D misless game. Uh, And
so you know what yeah, Hey, I like it here.
I know it's only been a few days, but yeah,
I want to stay and I'll stay behind. I don't
know what what the the future holds from Matthew Stafford,
but you guys like me. You brought me in when
you had no other answer at quarterback. So are you

(06:07):
gonna suddenly run to the draft if Matthew Stafford camp
play anymore? Or you gonna give the job to me.
I think you're gonna give the job to me. Let
me stay. I'll continue to learn the playbooks so when
I take over at some point, it's seamless. And I'm
twenty eight years old, twenty nine years old, and I'm
not And I'm gonna take over a starting quarterback in
the Rams, and I'll play another three, four or five
years playing at that level as long as I can

(06:28):
stay healthy. You've gotta understand when you're putting a position
to succeed. Baker Mayfield's in a position to succeed right now.
Let's take advantage of that. He should try to stay
as long as he can sign a lifetime contract with
the Los Angeles Rams. Go do it. Let's go through
a couple of things here. Number one, congratulations to Baker Mayfield.
It's the attitude, aptitude, opportunity, all those things have to

(06:52):
come together, a little bit of luck, some bad penalties,
some stupid penalties, right the moron Jerry Tillery, I'm greed.
Dumb penalty slapping the ball out of Baker's hands. You
get the unsportsmanlike it's fifteen yards, Okay, stipulate to that.
They still had to move the ball another seventy two yards,
so the hey, he lost the game for him, everybody

(07:14):
can kiss my big fat star spangled silver studded. You know,
you still gave up another seventy two yards to Baker
Mayfield and company in a minute and a half. So yes,
you can make him the fall guy. But he's not
the only problem you've got here in terms of closing
out a game. Also, go back and look at your

(07:35):
offense and the ineptitude, uh and the fact that Davante
Adams was on the side of a milk carton in
the second half. But for Baker Mayfield, yeah, you went
into a situation where what do they have to lose?
We talked about it last hour, We talked about it
on Tuesday. A right, not a lot of financial investment.
We have no idea what Matthew Stafford is going to

(07:56):
be going forward for all of the revisionist history stuff
of all, either tart or for the trade itself. Oh
this picks now going to Detroit, so ha ha, like
they wanted Super Bowl. Most of your teams, you're wishing
and grasping at straws. I'm a Bears fan, Okay, I'm
southside Chicagoan. They've gone back once since Night five with

(08:20):
Rex Grossman, and while it was not a pretty game,
the most notable thing was Prince doing his rendition of
Purple Rain and everything. The loss to Peyton Manning. You
got there, yeah, otherwise it's five. So look in the mirror.
Most of you have teams that haven't sniffed a Super
Bowl Ammurance, Now I did. I did Sexy, Rexy baby.

(08:43):
But the point being being made is just the the
idea of you may Yeah, you sold your soul, you
sold your team for that year, for that opportunity, and
now you've got to cobble something new together. And I
don't know that Matthew Stafford is going to come back
at the severity of his injury. Remember we were talking
about his elbow before the season. Now we're talking about

(09:05):
his neck, spinal stuff. All of those things have been
bandied about here over the last couple of weeks. Finally
put on injured reserve. His wife is penn things on
social media in the past, worried about his health, concussion protocol,
all those other things. So he's been in the league
a very long time. Would anybody be surprised if he
hung him up this offseason? No? So next step, Oh,

(09:28):
the guy you brought in from one point three five
million dollars, you put him out there. Obviously you didn't
have other options in the house that you could trust.
Wofford physically wasn't ready to go. Gave it the old
college try and started. Does he get a bonus for
the game started column? We always love those things in contracts,

(09:49):
so maybe you can look at that. But either way,
Baker came in and while it was a little uneven
at first, he made some big throws that make you
raise your eyebrows, going, well, that was the guy with
all the bravado, the swagger, the heisman, the commercials, and
why he got the Browns do a playoff a couple
of years ago. You're all your big thing for the

(10:09):
World Cup was why not us? That's what Baker Mayfield
run around looking right now? Why not me? Why can't
I take over Los Angeles? And he goes and makes
a big play here. Remember also, you you give a
guy an off season with Cooper cup as he recovers,
make a couple of other moves, and and dance as
this with the salary cap as you need to. I

(10:30):
don't know you can think of worse options out there. Well,
you don't have the draft picks right so you know
what's gonna be difficult? Where are you going to get
a quarterback? When you now know a quarterback is a
big thing, right a quart Because if Matthew Stafford was
just injured? Were three and nine? Okay? But they went
out and got Baker Mayfield so fast. They went out
and got him so fast, and they they put him.

(10:51):
We're gonna put you in the lineup right away. Whoa whoa, whoa, whoa,
whoa whoa, whoa, whoa whoa. We're gonna put you in
right now. Yes, we're gonna put you in right now. Okay,
So what do you expect from me? Don't worry about it,
Just go out there and play. Meanwhile, what the Rams
are thinking, is hey, maybe, just maybe we found a

(11:12):
guy that could fill a big hole for us. Maybe not,
but maybe, And so then we can go forward and
we can restart the dynasty. And maybe this would make
Sean McVeigh want to stay and not leave. This may
make other players, hey, we were still going here. We're
not starting over right, We're never gonna punt on the season,

(11:33):
We're never gonna give anything away. We went out and
got a guy and threw him in there right away.
So now other free agents sit back and say, boy,
they were in a big time losing season. They could
have easily tanked to get another draft pick, and they
went out and got a guy who thought they were
gonna come in and help them win games. And that's
how you keep the dynasty going. Because the question with
the Rams was never hey, or what about this season?

(11:54):
We told you, Look the Rams are done. Like a
month ago, look the Rams are done. They're not trending upward,
they're not playing. There's no one riding to the rescue
could tell. The way the season began it was gonna
be difficult for them. It was about how can we
keep this window open? Can we keep this window open?
Now and and keep it to the point where we
can bring in what we need, we can draft whatever

(12:15):
we need, we can get free agents to come in,
and then suddenly, hey, we're still going instead of the
door is closed and the dynasty is over and we're
gonna restart and maybe in two or three years, once
we get out of all that time we picked up,
we we sent our draft picks out, we start getting
our draft picks back. Hey, things can go well, uh yeah,

(12:35):
I mean this is a huge it's it's a it's
a I don't want to say it's a. It's it's
like a it's an educated risk, an educated gamble that
had nothing but upside and very little downside. And after
one night, one game, one night, you can see it's
all upside for the Rams. Right now, you're feeling right now,

(12:55):
Rams fans are like, oh, what a horrible season, But
oh my god, Baker Mayfield just came in and one
the game. For us, this is unbelievable. Now suddenly, hey,
our future is still right in front of us, and
it's it's we still we may have to worry about
going together. The biggest thing we have to worry about
as our quarterback. Maybe now we don't because if Stafford
is not healthy, we can have Baker and he's good.
And it's a big domino effect through the organization because

(13:18):
and I love the Rams, and I love the Rams
going going bold for what they wanted when they could
have easily just said, we're backing off. We're gonna lose
games the rest of the way. Aaron Donald's not gonna
play anymore. Everybody's out, and no, let's go out and
let's continue to try to do this and let's keep
it going. Man. I love this with the Rams, and
I love what they did because this is this is
a case of them going, hey, we stink, but look

(13:39):
why not. Let's let's let's try to keep it. No
one says we can, we can't do it, so let's
go do it. Awesome stuff. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays
at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio and the I Heart Radio app. Tisher did you
bring in like your keyboard to work? Mike can say, Oh,

(14:00):
it's so good. Would you like some sausage? You like
some sausages? Oh my goodness, it's that kind of night,
Come on Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harman live from the tirerac dot
Com studios. Really, I need to hear from Derek Carr

(14:21):
at some point soon. I really gotta know what what
kind of Southern accent did he put on tonight to
explain this loss to the Rams. He started to singing
in Southern accent by Tom Petty, as emotional as he
was the last time we played it with you. Just
that's just who I am as a quarterback. I know
the summers be Oh, he's gotta be even in worse

(14:42):
shape now he's got there's gotta be like tears coming
out of his eye. I mean really, it's it's gotta
be like a blue Christmas Elvis type accent. We're gonna
get Santa, bring my baby back to me. Santa maked
three minutes at fifteen, that's when everything did go to hell. Really,
I can't wait. I can't wait to see that. I

(15:04):
can't wait to see exactly what Derek has to say.
It's a startling game for all the UH Raider fans. Look,
I took the Rams plus the six and six and
a half. I didn't think that the Raiders were going
to run away and hide, but certainly at sixteen three,
look like you were in an opportunity, right the fact
that the Rams were settling for Super Toes sixty one.

(15:25):
You heard field goal attempts from mad Gay like, all right,
that's where we're at in this game. All right? So
I'm told we actually have Derek Carr from the press
conference that happened moments ago. We're gonna bring you a
little bit of that right now, and the where we
pick it up is is, uh, Derek, Hey, what happened tonight?

(15:45):
What happened tonight? Wait? Stop for a second, stop wait, wait,
stop stop, wait, we really have it. I thought it
was gonna get another Elements song. I really thought, okay,
what are we gonna get? Tight shirts? Found some reason
for where Elvis can answer. You seem to change. You
acted strange to hear it? Why I've never known, Honey,

(16:07):
you lied when you said you loved me? What happened tonight? Derek?
We cannot build Oh dreams? Who is suspicious? No? I
really did. I really thought it was okay, No, we
actually do have the press conference now, Okay, here we go,
Uh so here it is Derek Carr. The first question
you hear from the from Stephen the back. What happened tonight?

(16:27):
Here's Derek Carr. How about the big show with russwood
Box catch you before July for it? Johnson, truly, I
know want us to mention that, and we want to
mention it. I believe the postage from this show go
through the Cynthia Milk funds that right. O, Yes, that's right,
and uh, I have to say it to uh what

(16:48):
I have to say that we have a diamond ring
and we're gonna have as a door prize us my
initially for some time and cancer fourteen diamonds and we're
gonna give it welcome. How did you you just type
in Elvis talking? And is that the first Elvis interview?

(17:11):
First one? It's the first thing that came up. All right,
let's just play it. What if he was cursing up
a blue streak? What all of it starts going? Well,
I got a couple of clips I can play you
you blankety blank blankety blank that we can't play here.
I don't like anything here. I don't like it. I
don't like it. Okay, So now now we're gonna have

(17:32):
Derek Carr following the lass to the ramps. And yes,
the question coming from the back of what happened tonight?
I've been colin, you know, thankful better than a month
now crab back every time, and now you'll start. You
having to go twenty four hours nine and nobody ain't
tried you come after do anything about that? Do you
you don't get down computer, I'm gonna come over here
and did shut that dangle? Damn? He was pissed. You know,

(17:58):
I'm wondering going, I really I wonder if we're gonna
get boom Howard. Now, hey, there it is. Yeah, that
was a three to five favorite. I think that boom
Hower would make an appearance. Okay, so we had an
elvis interview. It's like just typed in Elvis interview and
that's what came up. All right, So we had Elvis,
we have boom Hower. What can we get next. I'm

(18:19):
trying to think, Oh, I think I think I know
we're gonna get next. I won't say it because you
have no idea. But how do I say no, I
think we're gonna get have no idea. If I say it,
will you tell me if that's what you have? Ready?
Okay Forrest Gump Nope, Oh okay, alright then alright, well
let's let's let's hear from Derek Carr and he was

(18:40):
asked a derk, what happened to night? Berd can from
d and making in it is a car funk damn
we go head? But any people without his helping on?

(19:02):
Is that from cars? To Mario? I think it is
a car And I got to hang out with him yesterday.
It was fun. You got out with mad Or Larry
the cable guy, Derek Carr? Okay Or and Derek Carr's
soul that was knocked out of him? Your name made
her two? Alright? Okay, oh boy, alright, so let's try again.

(19:28):
You told made Uh. Here's Derek Carr following the game
tonight when he was asked, Hey Derek, what happened? What
what do you think? I'm I ask you throw anybody
under the bus. Just yeah, as a team, we just
didn't finish the game right the right way. UM. You know,
its NFL, it's gonna be close, it's gonna be tough sometimes,
and this was one of those games where, um, I

(19:51):
think in the red zone we didn't execute how we
should have. Um, you know, we left some plays out
there and some points out there, and then at the
end of game, Um, I just didn't think we finished
it and how how we could have finished it too
to win the game. And you know, not not even
you have to you know, put the defense out there
or anything like that. We're just the next cute. This

(20:12):
is the fourth double digit lead this team is lost.
Is it a pattern that's happened or is it different
with each loss? No, it didn't feel that way, if
I'm honest. Um, you know, it didn't feel like something
like oh here, you know, here it goes again or anything.
It didn't feel anything like that. Um. You know, at
the end of the day, it's football and you're gonna
turn the film on and you're gonna see, well, oh
that's why that happened or why that's why that happened,

(20:33):
and you know coaches are correct it and that's it sucks, man,
no margin are you know? It's tough, Derek, obviously, just
a talent team you have to be to build those leads.
Why don't think there's been a disconnected you know, being
able to build those but not being able to finish them.
Getting you know, talent that you are. Yeah, you know,
I'm not sure on this one because I'd have to
watch it, you know, and once you watch it, it

(20:53):
tells a lot. Um. You know, for me, it didn't
feel you know, it didn't feel out of place or
didn't fit, something didn't feel off or anything like that. Um,
you know, I felt like, you know, we had a
good control of what we wanted to do, and UM,
I really think it just comes down to the execution
of the place. Um. You know that, you know some
of the stuff that hurt us in pass games. Um,

(21:15):
you know, that's just what it came down to at
the end. Offensively, you seemed like you guys kind of
we're having a more conservative approach today. A lot of runs, uh,
you know, and reads on set off the field, goals,
things that make sure you wanted you guys to be
more aggressive in some of those moments. Giving a success
you've had the last week's on office. Yeah, you know,
I'm not sure how that's a better question for Josh.
You know, Um, you know, whatever whatever it's called, we're

(21:37):
trying to execute at a high level. There's times where
there's run and pass checks and different things based on
looks that we get and all that kind of stuff.
So sometimes thinking end up that way too, you know,
but I you know, for me personally, you know whatever,
whatever Josh is calling like, we're just trying to execute
that and make it happen as you said, I mean
it's pretty much now Mark and error. Mean you can
said that coming into this one. Does it make it

(21:57):
more frustrating to see some of those kind of smallest
it's goos to be telling these or other things that
kind of tribute into the well, absolutely it hurts, um,
you know it hurt you know it hurts. But we
put ourselves in that position, right, Um, you know we
you know we won you know, however many games in
a row, but it doesn't mean you win the next
one and you try and talk about it, preach about it,

(22:18):
you know, um, you know work so that doesn't happen. Uh,
but it happened to us today and it's it's hard,
it's tough, but we put ourselves in that position like
it's nobody else's fault, you know what. I like? I
like Mike when when when? Now it's become the go
to thing whenever someone gets a question they don't want
to answer, Hey, what do you think happened. You just
played in the game. You were the guy under center

(22:39):
the entire what happened? Oh, I don't know. I don't
know until I go back and look at the film. Wait, well,
you just played in the game, man, what do you mean?
I I don't know until I I don't know until
I go back and look at the film. Now I
get it when a coach is asked for some player
and you go, well, I gotta go back and look
and see what he's like on every play. I you know,
I don't know what our right cornerback did you know
on the vast majority of plays. I know we got
beat a cup all of plays he had the pass

(23:01):
interference penalty. But yeah, I get there. You don't know,
But I love what I guy, you just played quarterback
the entire game. You could't hear? Well, I will go
I don't know until I go back and look at
the film. I'm sorry, guys, I can't tell you, and
you can't ask me another follow up, because boy, that's
a really strong answer that I gave you that I
can't answer until I go back and look at the film.
To become the default for for every NFL player. I

(23:21):
don't want to answer question because we really disappointed and stunk,
So I'm just gonna blow it off until another day. Well,
I think there's some level to it, right of all, right,
I didn't get to see the AL twenty two of
what broke down, But I'm also not going to give
you a full accounting of what I thought I saw
for a play that went awry, or nor am I

(23:41):
gonna throw Josh McDaniels under the bus for play calling
uh down distant selections? Right, they had three three, three
and ounce in the second half, three plays nine yards,
three plays eight yards. You had the eleven play thirty
one yard drive in the middle, and then another three
play nine yard drive. Those are your four drives before
the final interception. So clearly, philosophically everything changed and you

(24:07):
decided to not try to push the ball down field
of Davante Adams, that would be the bigger question. I
would have gone specifically to that. So why was Davante
not a part of the second half? How did they
erase him after a strong first half? Yeah, I mean
he had two targets. He had one in the middle
of the in the middle of the second half, he
had one of the final play of the game when

(24:27):
he got picked off. That's it. You're just throwing it
up in the air. But yeah, yeah, you know it's
and and and to bring this back to the you know,
the other comeback we saw the other night. All right,
just think about this for Derek Carr, a right, Tom
Brady playing for his NFL life over the course of
the next few weeks. Right, he's he he wants to
play next year, and he is playing for his NFL life.

(24:49):
He needs to show that yes, I can still get
it done. There should be a team that wants me.
Derek Carr is also playing for his NFL life, albeit differently.
You see how badly he wants to stay a Las
Vegas Raider. He has said many times, I've been a Raider,
I want to stay a Raider. Well, this is a
guy playing for his Raider life because if the Raiders

(25:11):
continue to fall and look there five and eight, if
they finish out of the playoffs again after this year,
in a year in which you had Davante Adams and
Josh Jacob is one of the top three running backs
in the NFL. Uh, if you don't win, here are
you really a year away? And Derek carrs do thirty
million dollars for his contract next year. Is he really
gonna see that? Or if you're the Raiders, you're saying,

(25:34):
you know what, it's time for us to start over,
and we're gonna make a deal. We're gonna trade Derek
Card to somebody else, somebody who needs a quarterback. Maybe
the Jets, maybe it's gonna be the Steelers, something. Somebody's
gonna need a guy that like Derek Carr because he's
very functional, and he's someone that's gonna complete a high
percentage of his passes. He'll push the ball downfield a
little bit, but he's someone that is you can be

(25:54):
comfortable with him at quarterback. But is he a next
level guy? Other teams are gonna say maybe in our
system he is be with our team is but the
Raiders where you want to stay. You can't give that option.
You You can't pay a guy thirty million dollars if
you stink, and if the Raiders finish out of the
playoff hunt and and because then you're not trending up,
you're trending down from a year ago, it's hard to say, yes,

(26:15):
we are buying in with Derek Carr again if they
if they if they fall to the rest, he's playing
for his Raider life because if they have a bad record,
guess what, Derek cars on a different team next year.
He's and and and suddenly he becomes one of the
most sought after guys after the season is over as
far as quarterbacks, because there's not gonna be a lot
of guys out there, right Gino Smith will be there,
and but he's probably gonna wind up staying with Seattle.

(26:37):
Brady will be there, but who knows what kind of
interest level he's gonna have. It takes a big trade
to get Aaron Rodgers. Hey, Derek Carr is available. Alright, alright, alright,
let's go. Let's go get Derek Carr. I mean, if
he wants to be with the Raiders, this is the
next few weeks. If they finished poorly, he's on a
different team. One of the things I would say that though,
is Davante Adams went there for him. So it's it's

(26:58):
a complicated u s when it comes to what's the
next iteration is in a situation whereby the wide receiver
actually gets to have a say of the quarterback that
gets brought in, and we normally talk about the quarterback
and what they want quarterback, maybe picking the groceries, picking
the coaches, coordinators, etcetera. We've been talking about it quite
a bit of late, going on a month plus of Denver.

(27:23):
If Nathaniel Hackett is bounced at the end of year,
the year as many would expect him to be, that
you know, how much of the decision making is all right, Russell,
we gave you a giant bag, Now you pick your guy. Likewise,
here with the Raiders, if they do decide to bounce
McDaniels or if they decide to bounce Derek Carr. I

(27:45):
think in both scenarios, how much power does Davante Adams
have in this kind of space in terms of how
you can maximize the time that because you convinced him
to show up there, and if you suddenly tear it
apart by sending Derek car out of town, what's that say?
We we always talk about the the logic and the

(28:06):
flow of free agents and trust of an organization. I
gotta imagine that that that would do some damage to
that type of process and that pipeline as glitzy and
glamorous as Vegas. Maybe, by the way, and four uh
losing games when leading by ten or more points at halftime.

My best Friend Mike Harmon. Any first responder will tell
you never try to beat a train after breaking and
take a mile for a train to completely stop. So
when you come to a rail crossing stop, because trains, well,
they can't. I got a big fat hot take for

(28:50):
your Mike Harmon coming off ready, big fat, big, big
fat hot red, A big fat hot take for you.
You know what I mean, screwed up there? I got
a big fat hot take for you. Looking at tonight's game,
we watched the Raiders again. It's the fourth blown lead

(29:12):
of thirteen or more points in the season. Right, Josh
McDaniels is not making it past this. Right. They had
a nice little run to get back in it. Now
here's another loss, another abysmal loss to go along with
losing to the Colts and Jeff Saturday's first game and
that thirty eight point lead they blew with three minutes
left in the fourth quarter to the Cardinals where they
lost in overtime. I know we're spending a lot of time,

(29:34):
and he's talking about coming back. Sean Payton wants to
return sooner rather than later. And whoever wants to get
Sean Payton is gonna have to figure out whatever draft
compensation needs to go to the New Orleans Saints. But
you'll figure that out. The guy wants coach is gonna
come back. The two plays he's been mentioned with most often,
or Dallas and Denver. Dallas is nine and three. Dallas

(29:55):
is making a pretty good run. They're gonna be in
the playoffs. Are you're really gonna say, Okay, Mike McCarthy,
you're gone. I don't see it. Not if the Cowboys.
Not if the Cowboys continue to win and they get
in the playoffs, they win a game. Denver is a mess,
all right. Russell Wilson may wind up being washed and
that's it. So you're gonna walk in and go, oh boy.

(30:15):
I know I've succeeded with every single quarterback I have,
But is it really gonna work for me here with
Russell Wilson and Denver? Is? Is this really gonna be it? Oh? Man? Well,
and you're already blanked by trade annoy draft picks and
what you're into him, you're gonna salary wise, you don't
have a lot of wiggle. Sean Payton will be the
head coach of the Raiders next year, but let him

(30:37):
hand pick his new quarterback. Maybe it's I think I
can win with Derek Carr, so let's let's uh, let's
keep him around. Or it's no, no, no, I want
somebody else. Let's go in the draft, let's let's trade
for this guy, Let's bring Drew Brees back. Whatever it is.
But the Raiders have a pretty decent base, and now
it's time for them to turn what they're doing into winning.
You have Davonte Adams. Maybe you bring back Josh Jacob,

(31:00):
give him money because clearly he has earned it. He
has performed extremely well this season. You have a great
tight end and Darren Waller when he's healthy. You have
some pretty good building blocks and you've seen what it
can be. This is where you go. You want glitz,
you want glamour. Hey, Vegas is kind of like New
Orleans a little bit man, when you have that nightlife
and you have that twenty four hour city, Hey, without

(31:20):
it being a New York or a CHICAGOA. Uh, that's
a pretty big deal. And going and winning in Vegas.
That's a pretty sweet location when you can go there
and know, hey, as long as I don't fail miserably,
I'm going to have pretty good autonomy to do what
I want to do here. But I know I can
win because I know quarterbacks and I know offense. Sean
Payton to the Raiders, that's gonna be wind up where

(31:42):
where he ends up next season. He'll be the head coach.
It will happen in the off season. The Raiders will
trade a draft pick or whatever it is to make
it happen, and they'll want maybe they trade Derek Carr
to make it. He would trade you, Derek Carr. How
do you feel about that? There? And oh yeah, we
love that, love that, Dennis Allan, Yeah, yeah, give me
Derek Carr. Great. But Sean Payt head coach of the
Raiders next season. Yeah, I would rank them maybe third

(32:03):
of the likely available spots as it stands right now. Bears,
Oh sorry, bud now, Bears are Bears. Bears are fine.
I think they're they're building something that could be interesting,
whether it's eber Flues or they fire him and give
gets the job, so he doesn't leave town. No, um,
the Chargers quite obviously. I said this very early in

(32:26):
the season and now it's it's come to be kind
of the the baseline of things. If Staley when State
Staley is eliminated, uh and voted off the island here. Uh,
you look at having Justin Herbert having some of those
offensive weapons. Yeah, obviously he's not a medicine man that's

(32:46):
gonna be able to keep people healthy. That's one of
the one of the things you have to look at.
You got Lombardi on staff and he obviously likes it
here in l A. So you got that. The other is,
maybe he's the guy that can battle the East on
the number of pelts on his wall and make Kyler
Murray understand what it takes to be a quarterback in

(33:06):
the National Football League because in the end he wins
out over Kingsbury when they have to make the choice
the soft season. Uh and part ways. So Sean Payton
to Arizona, see I I can see you on on
l A a little bit. Arizona is tough though, because
that boy, you know, Murray's a real wild card. Is
he gonna be there. Is it a big enough step up?

(33:28):
What would you want a little bit bigger market to
go in? Do you want a little bit more attention?
Because you know, they made a movie about the guy,
so I'm pretty sure he likes the attention. That's how
I'm gonna go in. You get attention wherever you are.
You can be in the middle of nowhere. Look at
the amount of attention we give the Jets. If he
gets well, that's New York. Yeah, But I mean, like,
do you use your stuff? It's like, I don't know.
Is there a signal in New York? Yeah, the bat signal,

(33:51):
the bat signal? Come on, come on, John Payton, Twitter
and out about a Fresca Mike and swollen Dome. Up next,
the story I've been waiting to do all night. This
is Fox.
