Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Go New, Your Go, Go New, Your Go, Fox Sports Radio.
Jason Smith and my best friend Mike Harmon live from
the Fox Sports Radio studios. The Nicks one game on
that's become my favorite drop Now that's from a Nick
(00:53):
fan page put up all these reactions outside of Madison
Square Garden following watch parties, and Tyser finds this one guy,
Yellie win in the finals in the city to the.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
What's crazy?
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Was?
Speaker 4 (01:10):
I mean?
Speaker 1 (01:10):
That was the end of a mon dodge. You got
a lot of screaming, a lot of little scenarios that
are playing out. You're like, did I see what I think?
I's all there? Yeah, this guy's burning, got a little
burning thing, like he's got a little altar or whatever.
People are smoking, and yeah, one guy's just rinking an
entire bottle of Scotch and it's it's And then there
was a second one where a guy's doing a stand
up kind of thing where he's looking at into the
(01:32):
microphone going Jalen, you're my dad, and he goes thank you,
thank you. Guy next to him thank you. And it's
like pretty soon like coltish and then a guy dresses
the teletub he walks in the street. I'm like, what
the hell's going on here? You are? See that's the
thing is that we are getting to meet Nick fans now,
like the real Nick fans, right, And that's the thing
(01:52):
about that everybody's gonna learn. This is a big lesson
that everybody's gonna learn, is that up until now it's
been yeah Nick, Look at Nick fans. They're all, look,
how cute, how how much they're channing outside they want
mb'd or how we want the Celtics or we want
caves like it's kind of fun. Donovan Mitchell hate was
really next level in that video. Look, Knicks fans, it's
(02:14):
been a long time since they have to celebrate. But
what covers that up? Well, Ben Stiller, Marishka Hargate, Chalomey,
the NBA Communications put out the official list of celebrities
for today. They needed to show more of them at
the Jerry O'Connell than not. Yeah, Jerry O'Connell was there,
John Deturo was there in the throwback UI. But that
was great. That's the best looked all right. But that's
(02:35):
the but that's the thing is that is that you know, Okay,
so we see all these fans that the Knicks have,
all these superstar fans right now, we always see the
celebrities and then certainly plenty of you guys media media
folks many pointed out, you know, and they have fun
on social media and all of this. No, no, but
now now you're going to get to meet the real
(02:56):
Nick fans, the ones who walk around in jerseys awkwards,
you know, mote from the nineties, the spree Well jerseys
that you just you can't even read the number anymore
because it's worn off. U wear them in the pickup
games and every day where the Knick fans that that
just went, they're they're kind of like aggressive basketball vampire fans,
(03:19):
where something when the sun goes down, all of a sudden,
their aggressiveness just kind of like twenty eight days later
where it's something you get bit by the zombie and
you're okay, f little bit and all of a sudden
you turn like, that's Knicks fans. Those are the Knicks
fans you are now going to meet over the next
few days. Videos like this that are gonna now become
the norm. The guy yelling burn the city to the ground,
(03:40):
like these are the you're gonna go. Oh, man, I've
seen I've seen fans, and I I The Knicks fans
make Raider fans look like a boy scout jamboree, like, hey,
we're here making s'mores and telling fun stories and ghost
stories by the fire. Nick fans, No, we're the wild
boys on the way back from the fire. And in
(04:02):
the background they're saying it don't stop me. I have
such a good time. I think Raider fans, the Raider fans,
they're gonna look like just a but this looks like
Sunday school. Everybody's so quiet and they're just so well behaved,
and it's oh, it's that they're all well dressed. No, no, no, nick,
Nick fans, no, no, no, man, Raider fans got nothing
on it. So as they spilled out Madison Square, Garden
(04:22):
all these other watch parties. Can we get some economic
numbers based on the sales of alcohol and and late
night food and pub stuff tonight in the greater New
York City area. This is great for the local economy.
Now it's offset by the extra security and police hours.
So I don't know, but I don't know what if
(04:43):
it's it's a net positive, but it's but the city
wins from a general spill. We'll only just tell you this.
This is how politics works. It only needs to be
a deficit if you find the money. If the money
comes from a fund that people don't really know about,
the security gets out there. You got it. You gotta
be careful. You live in California. There's a lot of
questions about where money's have gone. But I'm just I'm
(05:06):
explaining to you that it doesn't need to be good money.
Did you did you pay tribute to your guy Dan
Houses twelve? And oh I think del okay? Dan Housen,
speaking of twelve, how about hang on a second. Dan
Housen may have overplayed his hand here a little bit, okay,
because Dan Housen, WW wrestler who was very famously tried
to uncurse the mets didn't work. Uh tried to Calves worked, right. Uh.
(05:30):
Talks today about how he wants his own TV show
or monies because you said human money and he wants moneies.
He wants something if he wants this uncursing of the
Knicks to continue. Now, this has been a great run
for Dan House in the last couple of weeks, right,
but I'm like, hmm, guy might be overplaying his head.
He's really putting all his chips in the middle because
(05:52):
if he doesn't get a TV show, Like he was
talking to stephen A Smith, I want you know, steven A,
I can curse you. And steven A's like I wasn't
even listening to what the guy was saying. Producer was
in our ear. I don't know. Uh, but Dan Housen
overplayed his hand because apparently I don't think he's got
a new TV show. I don't think anybody's given him money.
And the Knicks beat this first tonight. Right now, you
got to think, do we still need to worry about
Dan Housen or has he overplayed his hand and now
(06:14):
we don't need him anymore? Now? See, I think he's
he's played this brilliantly because he's getting a lot of airtime. Yeah,
but he's but he wants moneies. But he wants moneies,
Well he's he's the number two meal. He wants Spanier
wearing a you are uncursed Dan Housen shirt, but obviously
he's not because he needs money. No, no, this is
this is the big he continues, and they can't bringing
(06:37):
it back to dorm d steven A Smith because if
it does go against and the Nicks end up losing, yeah,
it becomes steven A Smith's fault. See. But here's the thing,
so he can just pass that off on him and
it becomes a bit on the next level. Yeah, but
the thing is he doesn't give a crap because he
doesn't want anybody to compete with him. He doesn't want
to have any sort of equal billing story. I know that.
(06:58):
That's how I stopped being a guest on Thursday Mornings.
So that's here on Fox. When you overplay your hand, right,
you overplay your hand? You know what you say? I
get Okay, The money's line is fun like him saying
money Like I'm gonna start saying moneys now because of
Dan Housen. But in the house forever you were doing okay,
(07:19):
and now you decided to go all in with it,
and it's like, dude, I don't know you need to
go all in because right honestly, I'm saying, okay, I
don't know that we need you, man. I mean, you
decided you were going to potentially say, hey, I'm gonna
hold out and I'm gonna hold you hostage or I'm
gonna not uncurse the Knicks. No, dude, I think you
you I don't think we need you anymore. I may
have overplayed your hand. You got to wait and and
(07:39):
hope something happens and the Knicks lose it. Hey, I
can come back. I can come back for some monies
in a TV show. I can come back, like I
mean really, sometimes you get a little bit too happy,
just kind of like look like kind of like Rick
Beker told us with the Spurs, sometimes the end of
games they want to make an incredibly great fun basketball
play instead of let's just set things up and make
the right basketball play. A little too happy, Dan Housen
(08:01):
got a little too feeling full of himself. And now
I don't know, man, I mean, maybe what do you
need to do for Dan Housen. We won tonight and
he had and he was basically saying, I'll not uncurse
the name, but he hadn't officially uncurved like he hadn't
cursed them again, doesn't matter. He threatened to do it,
but he didn't do it. He threatened them. Maybe he
got what he needs. But now, why do I need
to pay him? If I threatened to do it, he
didn't do it, Why do I need to pay him?
(08:22):
If he didn't do it. You don't mess with things
you don't understand. I don't think he understands. I think
it's a great bit and a character he's cultivated over
eight to ten years on the indie circuit. Listen and
he is enjoying his moment to where he is taken
over ESPN television. I see Dan Housen is his great
usage of the word Money's right, that's finally what he's
(08:43):
got been telling you for a long time, and need
the human monies. Before WrestleMania, he's sitting in a cart
with CM Punk and they're like, what do we do now?
And he goes, I think I want some coffee. Hey
coffee man, Punk. See I'm bunk if they drive. Yeah,
that's that's really got it. HiT's the Moneies. It's that
he's it's all about the Moneies. But like these are
(09:04):
like now you're seeing like Dan Housen, Like is Dan Housen?
Like I guess he would be a great guy to
stand for all the Knicks fans. I said, you're going
to meet like if I like if I said, okay,
if I said you after tonight, after you hear all
the videos that go out, you see what Nick fans
are doing and how insane we all are and uh
and all of a sudden, so what do you think
the average Nick fan looks like? I like, you think
(09:25):
the first thing that comes everybody mind would be a
picture of Dan Housen done up with the makeup. It's
looking really menacing. That's your average Knicks fan. Yeah, it's
Dan Housens.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
Is he's a little guy.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
Yeah oh yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah. For me, it's
it's now that guy leaving in the video I'm was
describing to you and the guy dancing in at the Tellton. Yes, yes,
so one of those uh guys that harasses you for
five bucks to take a picture with him. Dan Housen
kind of looks like a villain from Supernatural and I
don't mean like the first couple of seasons. I mean
(09:57):
like near the end. Sure, we're not spending a lot
of money on the on the show, Hey, who is
our baddie of the week that we can maybe get
to some you know, a three or four week storyline.
Oh no, Dan house It. Dan Housen completely looks like
a villain from Supernatural. We're gonna say you are an
agent of Lucifer, al so I can do season No, No,
we can't get that actor. He's doing something else. You're
just be an agent of Lucifer and you're gonna come
(10:18):
in and you're gonna have curses and all kinds of stuff,
and you're gonna curse Padaluski to look like Jensen Ackles
and Jensen Ackles to look like Padluski and all this.
That's what we're gonna go. And I'm really going really
deep when I say Padda Lusky because that's from the
French Mistake season six. Uh, Like that's that's kind of
where I look at you host a Supernatural triviaan heighter.
I think I could. I think I could. They're starting
to really get more specific themes sce seasons I've seen
(10:41):
the Seinfeld one. I've seen the Breaking Bad one. Maybe
you can get on board there. Sixteen seasons of that man.
That was a long that was a long binge. When
Zoe said I want to watch Supernatural, I was like,
that's like a throwback when when network networks had like
twenty episodes, well twenty episodes a year, and then that
was what was the marathon when it wasn't charmed. Yeah,
(11:02):
if you fell yeah yeah remember TNT had Charmed run
for a long time. No, but just fell asleep to
Jenny and Charles and the and the Fellas. Then you
would wake up to charm. Now it's really supernatural and friends.
The two are the two, the offices all over the place. Yeah, yeah,
but no, But like Dan Housen is like, that's said,
that's what that's an average Nick fan looks like. I'm
(11:24):
sure people think that's what I look like. Yeah, painted
face black and white, painted face with a really red
tongue and red eyes, and and and and you have
your fingernails filed into points. Yoh yeah, yeah, yeah, slightly
bastardized version of the Gene Simmons kiss character be filed
into points like Taron Edgerton from that movie with Charlie Sarren. Yeah,
like they Oh yeah, that's what that's all Nick fans
(11:44):
right there, That's what they are right there. Yeah, that's
the entire city. I like that. Everybody's gonna meet these
Nicks fans in the next few days and they're gonna
be stunned, They're gonna be full of wonder, they're gonna
be scared, all of these emotions. If I had the time,
I'd go back and do it like we when we
first got together, right, I had already booked everything to
go go. Super Bowl Week was in New York, New Jersey,
(12:06):
and I was kind of doing man on the Street
stuff as we were trying to start the show and
and integrate things properly. But I'd already had all that
travel book so I did a few segments on the
street and then out in front of Broadway facilities. Rocky
was going to open on Broadway, all that stuff, and
I would love to do that with Knicks fans. And obviously,
time down distance my kids graduating there's no travel has
(12:30):
been a pain in the neck. But I think that
would be an interesting subculture to examine. What do you
do for a living? Fans is interesting Nix and Jets fans,
but like the Jets have been terrible work on Wall Street.
I'm I'm the mayor, I'm the Bronx mayor. All of
a sudden, you got all these civic leaders painted faces
(12:51):
screaming we're burning it down. It's like when it's like
when you see a movie and uh, it's it's one
of those movies that has like it's a it's a
thriller slash horror movie and you find out, you know,
all the political leaders are are are all you know,
they're all supernatural Carrot. I don't mean from the TV show.
I mean like they're they're not real, they're not humans. Well,
I mean aren't we finding that out by that may
(13:12):
or made out of the higher city council or all vampires? Right,
like the entire city council that's my kids principal made
up of Nick fans. Like that's what it is. Like
they walk out of the suit and they just tear
like their business suit suit and tie and everything, and
they just have tear away business suit and ties and
under it is like a Patrick Ewing jersey and you know,
the sneakers and they're ready, ready to go ready to
watch the game. Let's go. All that crazy uh craptastic
(13:35):
business stuff is done.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
Let's go next.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
Let's go. Hey man, when the clock strikes five, I'm
on me time. Yeah, hey are you? Are you done
in the bathroom yet? They come out? It's like, weren't
you just in a really expensive suit? Yeah? Now five o'clock. Now,
speaking of Knicks fans, ty, should you have another great
Knicks fans drop? Is it as good as if we win,
we're gonna burn this city down?
Speaker 5 (13:56):
Or so?
Speaker 6 (13:57):
That one is epic because it shows you the fear
you should have if you guys win. This one just
shows the Knick's ability to even be theatrical as fans.
Do you want to hear this one?
Speaker 1 (14:05):
Uh? It's okay to play, we'll find out. Okay, sure,
all right? I like, let's live dangerous. What's your message
for Cleveland?
Speaker 2 (14:16):
What are you sorry about?
Speaker 4 (14:18):
What?
Speaker 6 (14:23):
You guys are insane? What did they even say, Cleveland?
I'm sorry, like I said for what he said, for
absolutely nothing. You guys are insane.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
That was the old Connor McGregor, right, m oh yeah,
you're nothing, Okay, okay, yeah, now I have the right
viv it took me a while, right, it took me
a while to go from the from the I am
let New York will look like I am Legend meets
Escape from New York. How about the gangs in New York?
But that not the butcher. Yeah wait, it's a great
(14:56):
day for America. Not in the throwback throw back hear
now the giant mustaches and everything. You know, you know
what it's gonna look like, what the city is gonna
look like? Is this? Do you remember in uh World
War Z? Right? I forget whereas did they go to?
Did they go to Israel? And they were trying to
figure out why the city was they were able to
keep everybody out because they had the walls were really high,
(15:18):
and so Brad Pitt goes there and they and they
and they were figuring out like like why they were
able to stay safe for so long because they're trying
to figure out answers. And they kept playing the music
really loud, and he kept saying, stop playing the music,
it's gonna draw it. And then they just started. The
zombies just started crawling over each other to get to
the top and get everybody in, like they were sacrificing
themselves like just to get to the top, and then
(15:40):
Israel just it fell to the zombies obviously, Like that's
what New York is gonna look like. It's gonna be
the nick fans pouring out of Madison Square Garden like that.
And stop playing the music.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
Stop playing the music.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
I want to say, I saw that first feature that
kind of effect in a Bugs Bunny cartoon. Oh okay, yeah,
well roll it up over the top of each other.
Guess up, come from somewhere. You know the scene I'm
talking about. I know exactly. Yeah, they can't get up there,
but then because the music was so they had to
get there, they had to get they just start using
each other as ladders to crawl up and get go
(16:15):
New York Go, New York Go.
Speaker 7 (16:17):
Yeah.

Now I'm getting scared because I we should win the finals.
Make care for man?
Speaker 2 (18:00):
Should win?
Speaker 5 (18:01):
Man?
Speaker 1 (18:01):
Matt, didn't you you were up on the Spurs before
another ten point win. It's all the Knicks do is
win by ten. That's what we do in the playoffs.
That's all we do. Chris seventh straight road playoff games,
ten points. Chris Carter. All he does his catch touchdowns.
All the Knicks two is win by ten. That's what
we do. We win by ten. He also reminded you, yet,
you always have to have a fall gut. That is true.
That is the That is Chris Carter, the Alpha and
(18:23):
Omega of his of his career. But folks forget that
he was actually a pretty damn good receiver. He's up
for the College Football Hall of Fame this year, So
congratulations there to get on that short list. But yes,
gave us that gym all those years ago. So why
did the Knicks win tonight? Why are they up one
to oh over the Spurs. Jalen Brunson an incredible fourth
(18:45):
quarter thirteen points, finishing with thirty, which we will get
to coming back after getting down by fourteen the Knicks
intestinal fortitude. Whatever wwe reference, you get a little gorilla
mont soon. But to have an appreciation moment. The reason
the Knicks are up one zip is because of one
(19:07):
player who picked the best time of his career to
have the best game of his career, and that's Karl
Anthony Towns. Both ends of the floor, the Knicks won
because Kat had the game of his career. Offensively, no,
it wasn't a forty point game, but offensively, he was
(19:29):
aggressive to the rack. He was aggressive against Wemby, which
in and of itself is incredibly valuable because it's not okay,
are we scared of Wemby, He's gonna alter these shots. No,
we are gonna go right at this guy. And the
Knick strategy from the beginning of the game was we're
gonna exhaust Wenby. We're gonna go at him. We're gonna
make him run, We're gonna make him work. And Karl
Anthony Towns was absolutely fearless. He played with a chip
(19:52):
on his shoulder tonight that it's good to see that
he still has that club in his bag. Because the
Knicks had become a great team when what when he
he turned into more of a facilitator, right, It's not
suddenly where he's gotta go twenty four and twelve every
night and be the second option. The Knicks kind of
hit the wall with that. But because he's a great
passer as a big man. Once the Knicks made that move,
(20:14):
that opened up the offense. And now you see it's
not just Jalen Brunston at the end of games and
we stand around and watch, it's not just if Karl
Anthony Towns misses. There's nobody else. Carl Anthony Town's becoming
this kind of player has opened things up for Bridges
to make big shots and nobody to make big shots.
And Josh Hart and the Knicks offensive versatility is a
huge deal. It's a huge mismatch for the Spurs. But tonight, offensively, yes,
(20:37):
the numbers are there, from eighteen to twelve and six,
he was terrific. But defensively, you know we're gonna hear
from Wemby in a couple of minutes. Wemby was terrible
when he was matched up one on one against Wembin Yama. Look,
they threw the stat up there midway through the or
end of the third quarter when Wemby was one on
one with Karl Anthony Towns. He was one for eight
(20:58):
with three turnovers. Like I was worried last night, boy
and Steph Castle puts Jalen Brunston in a blender, we
might have some problems. Didn't think about if Karl Anthony
Towns had Wemby in a blender, because he did and
he didn't get the ball where he needed to. And
Karl Anthony Towns, think about this from last year to
this year, we're now talking about the defense of Cat
and to an extent, Jalen Brunson where last year was.
(21:19):
You can't have these guys on the floor at the
same time. Now it's look at what they've done Carl
Anthony Towns. I mean they won this game tonight. He
kept them in it. They outscored them in the paint
fifty to forty two. They out the team with Wemby,
they outscored him in the paint. They were more aggressive,
they were more physical, they were more everything, and they
didn't wilt at the end. And Kat was the guy
(21:40):
that was the fulcrum of both ends of the floor
for four quarters of this game. Brunston had a terrific game,
right He had a great fourth quarter. His first quarter
was terrible. He made bad decisions, he got hurt, he
came back, took him a while to get back in
the game. He would get hot for a few minutes
and it would miss, like five or six shots in
a row. But beginning to end, this was Karl Anthony
Towns and he's the guy that has the Nix up
(22:02):
one zip, best time to play the best game of
his career. We talked about it a lot last night.
We played some of the clips, read some of the
quotes from the players. Obviously we had some fun with
the Mike Brown who let the dogs out and whatever else,
and we talked about that level of calm that was there,
but certainly for Karl Anthony Towns, a guy we've talked
(22:23):
about a lot going back to the days in Minnesota,
and he had some let's just call it what it is,
some subpar efforts. And I underscore the word effort, And
that was written and bandied about quite a bit during
his time with the t Wolves. When it came to
the playoffs. You got a guy with that size, with
that heft, and that played much smaller than himself tonight,
(22:47):
and what we've seen through these playoffs. He's a guy
that's taken ownership. We talk about that connection to the city.
All of those different quotes, but there were a couple
of things that stood out in his post and one
that's making the rounds from very early in the game.
This is when it was still in the high forties. Look,
we got to keep playing defense. Our offense will catch up.
(23:09):
It always does. And defensively, we watched them work. Jalen Brunson,
we can he gets in the way. He's good, he's
giving you effort. But with Karl Anthony Anthony Towns, you
know the joke in the NFL as always, Hey, this
guy doesn't like people run his feet. He doesn't like
who the hell light's getting hit. Psychopaths that get into
the UFC ring or wrestling, right, those are guys in boxing.
(23:33):
Those are the guys that like get hit. Quarterbacks don't
want to get hit, and big guys don't want to
get hit either. One of my biggest complaints about when
Binyam on a night to night basis is he's more
than willing to go hang out on the perimeter and
not fight down low. And not only did he get
cat he had to deal with Mitchell Robinson. We still
have no idea how he got hurt, but he gave
you thirteen solid minute. But here was a quote from
Kat when he was talking to Barkley and Kenny Smith,
(23:56):
et cetera. And maybe he kind of puts this all
in perspective. Don't know what it was, but I felt
a calm and a piece that I don't know had
to be coming from the woman above. Now he lost
his mom during COVID a couple of years ago. I
felt really confident. I felt like a kid. It was
just fun out there, something that you always dream about
as a kid, to be in the NBA Finals all day,
(24:16):
weird feeling. I felt like I was getting ready to
play in my Saturday and Sunday AAU games and he
goes on. It felt like I saw her in the stands,
and I felt that piece. It was really comforting. Game
one of the NBA Finals, you're told how the pressure's
gonna be. I don't know. I felt like there was
a certain presence here that was very comforting, very loving,
and I felt like I could have fun out here.
(24:38):
In Game one of the finals and he's saying that
he's leaning against the scorers table and just kind of
looking at the arena that's emptying out and there's just
this calm in him now that you admire. We all
aspire to those moments, but to kind of put it
in perspective of how he was able to just clear
the mechanism and just go play basketball like when he's
(24:59):
a kid again. Is is a testament and a love
letter to this game, and it shows you that finally
he's fit in where when the Knicks got him they
expected immediate results. It was really rocky right under TIBs.
It was really rocky, and there were times when it
looked like things are gonna be great. Other times it
looked like what's Kat doing? I remember when I wanted
(25:20):
to drive him to the airport for Joannis. Wow, that
sounds insane now, well, you know he wanted to do
that in the Hawks series, by the way, let go.
But you can just tell over the last few months
he's become a player who now fits in with New
York and fits it like because it's like you know,
the new kid at school when you show up. Sometimes
(25:42):
you assimilate really fast. Sometimes it takes you a while.
And you see him having fun with Josh Hart in
the postgame press conferences now and way he plays tonight
and being okay with being a facilitator and having this
conversation like he did with the guys on inside the NBA.
You okay, Karl Anthony Towns is a nick now he's here,
he fits, he gets it. There are They're all on
the same page. They all seem like they love playing
(26:03):
with each other. And I don't know that that was
always the case, even last year. I don't know that
that was the case. But now they seem like, hey,
we are all together. We all understand what we are
playing for and what we can put aside and what
we do. But they've all felt like they've come together
now and it's a moment in time for this NIXT
team and Karl Anthony town is the guy that stands
for that.
Speaker 4 (26:22):
Well.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
And your analogy did to being the new kid in school, right,
because think about all the games that this corps had played. Yeah,
Deevin Chendo's off and doing other things with other teams,
but you look at this corps, hundreds of games together,
many road hours, many practices whatever. Karl Anthony Towns comes
in and he's the big the big ticket guy. Yeah, right.
The rest of these guys are not. And Jalen Brunson
(26:44):
was the cast off. He talked about that a little bit.
He goes, you know, I was not that guy, right
because as soon as Lucas showed up, wasn't the guy
there New York. They didn't necessarily love me because they're
looking at me as a well, my dad played here, cool,
but I'm the guy that people are saying is overpaid
to come here. Then he takes less on the contract
to help facilitate things and he's become the fourth quarter hero.
(27:04):
One of the stats of the day was he's now
got as many thirty point playoff games as Shake Gilders
Alexander Or he's got more than Shay. He's tied Luca now.
So speaking of the night, the Karl Anthony Towns had
on both ends of the floor. Putting Wemby in a
blender was one big thing he did. What did Wemby
have to say? Following the Spurs game one loss, Let's
(27:26):
hear from Victor webbin Yama.
Speaker 5 (27:27):
Right now, it's first to four series, so we're going
to have time to work on it.
Speaker 7 (27:33):
Third on the.
Speaker 5 (27:34):
Right, Mike Finger Santona Express and is Mitch was just
talking about the need to get inside more to establish
more of a presidents inside.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
Did you feel like you did what you.
Speaker 1 (27:44):
Needed to do in that regard.
Speaker 5 (27:45):
And how can you improve on that in game two?
Speaker 4 (27:48):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (27:48):
No, of course not.
Speaker 5 (27:49):
I agree with the coach, and I mean say, is
the same every team guards differently. You know, I'm going
to figure it out. It's a yeah. I mean I
was bad tonight. It's not more complicated than that.
Speaker 7 (28:05):
Fourth throwing the right tim to mental associated press Victor.
You guys were up twelve or fourteen or whatever it
was midway through the third. When did you feel like
things were slipping a little?
Speaker 1 (28:17):
What was it? Was it quick or.
Speaker 7 (28:20):
Was it just simply just they just started making march hots?
Speaker 1 (28:22):
Was it something just simple?
Speaker 2 (28:24):
It was quick?
Speaker 5 (28:24):
I think.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
I think we let that one go first right here
on there?
Speaker 1 (28:31):
All right now, Here's why as a Nick fan, I
love hearing what Wemby just said. We got time, We're
gonna figure it out. I was bad, That's all it was.
You know what, Hey, what I would expect to hear
what I want to hear if I'm a Spurs fan,
is that, Hey, we gotta go get Game two all
this time, we blew the we get on my back.
(28:51):
We are going to get game two because this is it,
because this is a series now and Wemby makes it
ser and for everybody else. I'm starting to see some
analysis on ESPN. Oh, it's gonna be a long series.
It's got this now. The Knicks have gotten in the series.
The Knicks are one game away from basically clinching the
NBA four Whoa, whoa, whoa. Because you really think the
Spurs are gonna lose the first two at home and
come back and win the series. That's not happening. This
(29:13):
series comes down to game two. Game two is the
must win of the season for the Spurs, and I
love hearing Wenby saying, yeah, we'll figure it out. We
got some time. You think you got time. Great, I'm
glad you think you have time, So glad. If suddenly
he's fiery guy, I think you have to say he's
only fiery when he's throwing we dobos in the low post.
(29:34):
We gotta get game two. I don't know what to
tell you, but with this didn't get our attention. I
don't think anything else. We just lost Game one at home.
I understand this deep thinker, guy, I understand that you
never want to make it seem like, hey, it's panic time,
but this is, like, this is the season. Right now,
you're talking about losing and going home. It's not just hey,
winning one game, we're down three to two, we win
(29:56):
game two. We all got to think about game six
winning that okay, Like I wanted a little bit more
of just understanding the stakes because it's still where the
Spurs the media thing. This is gonna be a long
series and belongs to Spurs. Lose Friday night, guess what man?
Game four is it? And the next and New York
City is gonna be lit on game Fend's gonna burn
it down. And I mean I mean it's physically going
(30:18):
to be lit physically. I don't mean like it's gonna
be lit like literally like I'm in high school. Go
and that party is gonna be lit. No, No, it's
gonna be lit like the entire city. It's gonna be lit.
Three forty five. Last call. Yeah, yeah, there'll be no
last call, just like there's no no, no no. Once you're inside,
they just shut the door and you can stay. There's
just nobody else can enter the part. There's no bedtimes
in New York. There's gonna be no no. I mean,
(30:41):
I told you he's already got those young voters roped in.
I'm glad. Oh yeah, you think you think you have time.
That's great, Wenby. I'm glad you think you have time.
I'm glad you think that everything is fine. We just
have to fit the next I'm glad you think that way.
And the Knicks are going one more and we're going
home to party. We're gonna he might have just met
the next forty eight hours to figure it out. I mean,
I don't know, Okay. I have a lot of questions
(31:02):
for miss Mitch Johnson about other guys not named Wenby,
one that sat on the bench a lot after being
a leader for them in the first half, well Harper
and then Darren Fox, Yeah, darreon Fox. And we're seeing
a lot of people put in the chet Hoolmegren Jersey. Yeah, yeah,
that's not great. It might be next Yeah, that's not
great when they put you in the chet Holmgren Jersey.
(31:24):
Right now, that's not a term. It's no, no, it's
not not really trying out to find out what's trending
in the wide world of Sports. So someone who's been
called the Chet Holmgren of Fox Sports Radio. Much like
Chet is a one named star, Monsey.
Speaker 9 (31:37):
Is a one name superstar.
Speaker 1 (31:40):
All Right, I guess I'll take it. I'll guess I'll
take it. He just signed a million dollar deal. Yeah,
you're like shit or Madonna.
Speaker 4 (31:47):
I understand. But Chet Holmgren is a punching bag of
jokes right now.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
Well, okay again, I under forty one million guaranteed was
coming in. I think I'd take a couple of jokes.
Say that.
Speaker 4 (31:58):
You say that, but have you seen what people are saying?
And when I see people, I mean me like, like,
let's be real here, let's be real.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
But Monsey, they want to be real. I know what
you like. And do you know how many T shirts
you can buy for two hundred and forty million dollars?
Speaker 8 (32:14):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (32:15):
My god?
Speaker 1 (32:15):
So many? Yeah?
Speaker 9 (32:16):
I mean yeah, two, three, four five, that's twenty one.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
Define exactly. This is Monsey counting how many shirts you're
putting her cart tonight three Nike. Oh, you have no idea,
You have no idea?
Speaker 5 (32:31):
All right?
Speaker 4 (32:32):
Yes, as the Fellas have been talking about the nixt
one Game one, shut up, nix one Game one against
the Scars one O five to ninety five. We already
heard all that, so let me give you some.
Speaker 2 (32:40):
Other fun stories here.
Speaker 4 (32:42):
Chipotle, once the series is over, in honor of the
number fifty three, fifty three years since the nixt won
their last NBA championship, fifty three years in honor of
how long the Spurs have been around. Fifty three is
the number of ingredients Chipotle uses. So once the series
is done, the final game, whenever it's gonna be, Chipotle
(33:02):
is going to post on social on X a text
to win code. The first fifty three thousand people to
text that code to the number that they're providing, you're
gonna get a free entre.
Speaker 1 (33:12):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (33:13):
So it's a lot.
Speaker 4 (33:14):
Whenever it ends, whenever the last game, to go to
X on Chipotlet, they're going to give you a text
to win code. The first fifty three thousand people to
text that.
Speaker 1 (33:23):
Code free entre. All right, all right, all right, you're
welcome back to you And I'm just kidding.
Speaker 5 (33:28):
No.
Speaker 4 (33:28):
Stanley Cup Finals Game A Game two is tomorrow Thursday
between the Golden Knights and the Hurricanes.
Speaker 2 (33:32):
At eight Eastern.
Speaker 4 (33:33):
Las Vegas leads that series that series one zero all
of baseball has wrapped up except for the Dodgers and
the and the Diamondbacks.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
Dodgers are up seven zero, bottom of the ninth inning.
Speaker 4 (33:43):
In Arizona, Angels defeated the Rockies eleven four, Astros came
back to take down the Pirates eleven nine, as held
on five to four against the Cubs in Chicago in
ten innings, Arnold's defeated the Rangers five to three, and
the Giants took down the Brewers on the road one zero.
In NFL news, the Steelers in tight end Darnell Washington
reach an agreement on a four year, forty two million
dollar extension.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
Back to you guys, Thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (34:05):

Speaker 2 (34:58):
Part of Do you Know Who's Wearing it?
Speaker 1 (35:01):
Even more than most of the players and coaches of
the San Antonio Spurs, TIBs the Air Corgi nos to win,
He's now being labeled a fraud. Luckily dogs can't read.
You don't have to tell a dog's day offline.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
Shame.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
I don't think you want to get online. Don't you
have a shame? The activate your Twitter account. But if
you're that dog's owner, you let down a city. No,
no one likes me anymore. Whoa, whoa, Maybe I picked
the knicks.
Speaker 4 (35:33):
Of it.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
Have a big game, bro, bro brogram. Someone's having a
little too much fun here. But is that really such
a thing? The way you know, talk about things like
in movies, they call it a button where they show
you one scene in the beginning of a movie and
then they show you kind of the same scene near
the end. And it's different right in Miracle when the
(35:55):
United States plays Russia right before the Olympics and they
get drubbed like ten to three. The face off with
Mark Johnson and uh and and the best player in Russia, Uh,
Johnson wouldn't look at him and because he was scared,
and and uh you know the the you know, they
won ten three, And then they show you at the
end coming for the face off of the game, Johnson
(36:17):
stares at him and and and and he's the guy
to look away, right, So uh, you know it was
that was you know, Boris mckhloff. So that was a
you know, they do a button like that the beginning
of the show when the Spurs were up at halftime
and it was the Champanee Show, right, I mean, he
comes up with the first half that no one had
(36:37):
ever seen. He was five out of six from three
point range and it was single handedly keeping the Spurs
in the lead in this game. Great spacing by the
Spurs at that point, offensively, right, we saw a lot
of collapse into the lane leaving wide open and a
lot of it was too because Brunson didn't play a
lot because he was injured and sat out. So you
(36:57):
had guys like Alvarado playing a lot of minute and
Clarkson and there was a lot of running around and
Champion was the guy left open, right, So the Spurs
taking advantage of that. So and what do we always
say all the time NBA? Every NBA series turns where
you can point to a game and say, it's not
about the superstar, it's about look at this support role
player and the game they had that was so unexpected
(37:19):
and we were never able to come back from that.
Right at halftime, I said, this is the Champanee game, right,
I mean, the guy's got fifteen, he's the only guy
hitting threes for them. And then the game ended, and
now it turns out it's the Landry Shammitt game. Another
and for him thirteen points off the bench, five out
of nine, he made three threes. He and Ananobi the
only guys hit more than two threes on the Knicks. Shammitt,
(37:42):
I mean, you're not expecting this from even though he's
had this run. Like, Okay, he's a bench player, but
bench players play better at home, and his big games
against the Cavaliers were at home. But he comes off
the bench and he has to play a lot of
minutes tonight because of the Brunton situation the first half,
and Shammitt's the guy that helps lead this comeback where
they clawed all the way back by the time we
(38:02):
got to the midway point of the fourth quarter where
they started to take control again. All sometimes that big
game in a series that flips because a role player
has an incredible game. We say it. Sometimes it's game three,
sometimes it's Game five, sometimes it's game seven, sometimes it's
game one, and you there's always you can always look
back at the end of the series and go, that's
where that team took momentum. And you know what happened
(38:23):
in the Knick series with the Caves when they came
back down from twenty two in game one, and you
can be able to point to this game in a
few days ago. Boy, when the Knicks came back from
down fourteen. We didn't think they were good enough to
come back from down fourteen against the Spurs because the
Spurs are so much better than the Caves and all this.
They get down fourteen, forget right. PJ Carlesimo saying before
the game on ESPN, if they get down twenty against
(38:44):
the Spurs the second half. That's a different story. That's
a different story. I think it was PJ. I was
listening to the ESPN. I think he was the one,
and now I'm like, gonna love PJ. Carlesimo and I
agreed with him. I'm like, okay, but now here you go.
This is a fourteen point lead and the Knicks ate
it away and wound up winning by ten. Like you
have to wonder, is this the game that really breaks
the Spurs backs? Like are they going into Game two going, Hey,
(39:06):
we don't know what happened. We just have to go
out and try to figure out something some way around it.
And the Knicks are going to come out and say,
we're playing full of confidence. I told you last night.
I liked how loose they felt coming into this game,
Like it's all Nicks right now. Man, the Knicks are
playing downhill. Yeah. The Karl Anthony Towns thing I read
before when he was talking to the post game with
Charles and Kenny and company, I mean that that's a
(39:28):
nice little microcosm of where you're at. But Landry Sham
at big minute, Josh Hart got in fouled trouble, didn't
get rattled made his bones in and around thee. Only
what one of five from the field didn't have it
scoring but played his role. But the most important guy
is a guy named Brunson, and it's not Jalen. Thirteen
(39:49):
points in the fourth quarter, thirty points overall. Mike Brown
crediting Rick Brunson, Jalen's dad, for telling him and the
team to shut the hell up in the second quarter
when all they were doing every possession was complaining and
chasing down Scott Foster and the crew, saying that ain't
gonna win you anything. Shut up and go to work.
(40:10):
Exit up out of Fresco, Exit swollen Dove, Jason Smith,
Mike Carmon live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. Again,
sometimes those games at turn a series come in game one,
which is why I said I love that Wendy thinks
all there's time and all kinds of time. Okay, keep thinking,
you got time. He just lost Game one at home.
Damn it, sham it.
Speaker 2 (40:26):
I love you.
Speaker 1 (40:27):
Coming up next, the big difference between the Knicks and
the Spurs and Game one. Jason and Mike Fox
