Tell you I've been in uh, Scandinavia when it's twenty
hours of daylight. It is a very odd people setting
up the volleyball courts at midnight. Oh yeah, yeah, I mean,
I remember going is a weird space man going to.

Alaska, you know, to visit It's like, okay, what what what?
What time is it? It's it's eleven thirty.

It's like being in Vegas casino. You have no idea
it's still light out.

I can't believe this, but I saw this video today. Obviously, Look,
the big story that potentially is, as long as it
passes the Senate, we're gonna have no more daylight saving time.
We're something we try to the seventies for a couple
of years, getting in a day in the seventies. Yeah,
lots of things, Yeah, some wild seventies stuff. Yeah, some experimental.

It what you will get.

But like I saw this graphic today of the United States. Okay,
if we adopt no more daylight savings time, here's what
time in the winter the sun would rise across the
United States, and like the earliest it would rise anywhere
would be like eight o'clock, like here in La with
the sunrise would be at eight thirty, like in North
Dakota at nine to forty, Like really, it's it's gonna

be dark until nine to forty in the morning in North.

Dako and then twenty minutes later you get kickoff of
an NFL.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Let's you know, let's go come. I mean, like I
would love to have it be a little bit lighter
at night. Yeah, that's kind of cool, right, that's kind
of cool. But like I think about I think about like,
you know, chilly morning traffic, well, and kids going to
school to chill, you know, taking the bus at seven
am and pitch dark, right, or people who are getting
up early in the morning to drive their kids to

school where they're tired, and and okay, you want to
make sure that the driving conditions are as favorable for
the early morning drivers as they can be when everybody's
just waking up. And I don't think you want people
to just go, oh, yeah, it's a night time out.
I can't really see that. Well yeah, and I don't
know about that, man.

I think it'll end up shifting school start times. I
mean there might be a lot of ramifications. School now
starts at noon and it gets done at six pm,
so I don't have to call it. You don't get
to call it sick for the prices right anymore. But
if we can get to go it after it's over.
But wait now, but what if we did standard time? Like,
can we do that?

Is it still a vote that we could either do
daylight savings or standard time, because standard would be you know,
an hour early. It's like it's seven o'clock between six
and seven, and that's you.

Know, six seven. That's a little bit more. It's a
little bit more doable.

It's okay, it's getting light out at seven o'clock in
the morning instead of you know, eight thirty.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Compromise with something we do really well in this nation
of ours, it'll be great.

I mean, I don't worry so much about the well
the effect on your body. You know, I've been working
nights since I was out of college. I don't care.
There's no difference between ten thirty eleven o'clock eleven thirty.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
I don't care. But everybody keep trying to crawl back
to daylight.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
I think the body clocks everybody would be Okay, we
do it all this time, cough, right, we do it
all the time. We do daylight saving time. We change
the clocks twice a year. Everybody's body clocks changes. We
do it all the time. I don't worry about that
so much when when I see scientists or or people
purport to be signed has gone, this is gonna be
the change? What is the moon gonna fall? Like, Okay,
that's not gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Let you also, I mean you do this just going
between time zones. If you get out a flight, yeah,
mom and dad in the car.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
But just trying to run early morning stuff and rush
hour in the dark, it's it's kind of difficult, man,
it's kind of tough.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
I mean then, and the coyotes are still out, so
if you're trying to walk your dog, yeah, I mean
this might be like when you're in Jaws and the
guys looking for his little dog.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
No, we got coyotes. And like our neighborhood's like wild Kingdom.
Like I go out to take the dogs, takes Benny
and Bailey out for a walk at night, like, oh
there's possums, there's so there's coyotes. It's like I don't
need to go to the zoo. I just walk outside
my house and see.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Whatever I need.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
And the jungle in the school near our neighborhood. The
geese own the big field for most of the day,
right The geese show up at like between three thirty
and four o'clock and they sit out there, and then
around six o'clock the skunks decide, hey, you guys are done.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
I'm looking at the time. You're wrap.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
You only have the field till six. The skunks come out,
the geese fly away. It's like, okay, that's what it is.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Swing shift.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
I mean, yeah, I don't like who gets the who's
down the third shift though, I don't know. The coyotes
teak out, man, all of a sudden, it's like everybody,
everybody scatter, everybody scatter out. I mean, I don't know
if I feel like, Okay, I don't mind doing, you know,
changing the clocks back, okay, And and and I like sometimes.

Having it be very light out at night.

I understand during the winter it's gonna be a little
bit dark, so it's gonna be colder because there's gonna
be no sun out.

Now. I just don't know how.

gonna be darkun it's gonna be eight am.

guy that I mean going to high school and he's

So I remember those days. I don't wish for the kids.

I had to ride seven stops. I'd have exact change

Twenty pitchers tonight, Yeah, pitched nineteen of them.

Nineteen can walk away from this game, going, man, I
had a great experience because I didn't give up a
run or even Lebress Robleski gave up a run for
the Dodgers, but he had five strikeouts two innings. Right,
he did walk away saying, man, nos, I struck out
five All Stars.

But he was also the guy just happy to be
there because they thought he was gonna get left.

Nineteen out of twenty guys pictures can walk away from
this game, saying I had a great time. The one
guy you can't the hometown starter, Christopher Sanchez.

Now, do you have any evidence that they lustill he
booed him at any point at first?

It's just it's just karma for Philly fans booing everything
the last couple of days. This is a baseball god, saying, yeah, okay,
you would watch what I do to your Christopher Sanchez,
he of the fifty innings scoreless.

Streak earlier this year. We're gonna get him lit up
like a Christmas tree. And you want a hot take,
I'll give you a hot take. He gave the fans
what they came to see offense.

Yeah, dude, yeah, because I do probably think there was
a good portion of Philadelphia fans that wanted him to
fail just so they could complain about it, because this
has been going really well for the Phillies the last
few months since maddingly took the fire Toms in the
World Act he wants a job. There are three games
back of the Brads are playing seven hundred ball. Now
the Phillies are three games back.

I mean, he at least got you out of the
gate strung going towards that over one hundred and eight

is a guy that should be getting a little bit
more of attention. And it's stunning, and it's again one
of your former guys. Dylan c starts the game for
the White for the for the White Sux starts the
game tonight for the American League for the Blue Jays
is having a really good year. And his first inning,
he looks like I walked away from that going, how

is this a guy with a barely five hundred record
over his MLB career with with an e RA that's
close to four?

When he threw that change up to Juan Soto in
the fan, Sodo looked at the catcher and just laughed, going,
come on, man, what are you doing to me?

Like when his array of pitches that he was out there,
and I get that he's emptying the tank in one inning.
He's only gonna go one inning, but three strikeouts and
you see his stuff, and I go, how does this
guy get hit right? That certain pitches? When I look
at this stuff, I go, I don't understand. When you
can throw a ball like this, how do you give
up any runs? Like Nolan McLain's a guy like he

throws a frisbee? How does he get out? He's pitching
better the last few weeks. Zra is like under two
and a half. But like watching Dylan Seeks tonight going
through the top of the National League border, I go,
how how does he give up a run?

No, he's been fantastic And then hell of a career.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
Ray was almost five. Last year was four, the year
before was four and a half. The year before that
it was up at four, you know, the first couple
of years of the White Sox, like he was supposed
to be one of the great pitchers in baseball, and
generally you can say he's he's he's been healthy the
last six seven years, right, he's been able to you know,
pick and I don't know watching that, watching this stuff,

I go, man, how does he give up any runs?
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Takes the ball every fifth day. You're looking at thirty
two or more starts, and what six straight seasons you
have the seven and nine season from twenty twenty three
before that twenty seven and fifteen for the White Sox.
He had that brilliant twenty twenty two season where it
was a two point two ERA fourteen and eight on

the season, but overall two point nine strikeouts per walk.
You look at his overall totals. Uh, he's been fantasy.

It's the you make give up hits, uh, the untimely right,
the one bad hit. And you played with the team
that also, uh didn't score a lot of runs for
a number of years. I don't know if you remember that,
uh with the White Sox these last couple of years,
because I mean we're in the the high times now,
we're living high.

We're living a high now. But he's had a two
five six ERA this year, three seven seven first career.
Remember we lost one hundred and twenty games a couple
of years ago.

kind of Caro, what happened yesterday? Maybe we are back,
but yeah, I mean he's had a three point six war,

year guy. Yeah, it's kind of been the Brett Saberhagen
brought up for those who don't remember Brett Saberhagen pitcher

for the Royals. Couple of Cy Young Award seasons. Uh,
not so great in between.

Them, No, I and and it's it really it's great
to see so well. We talked about Cody Bellinger last
hour on the show, Going Boy. Good for him winning
sure the All Star MVP, but his career really wasn't
what it was supposed to be. When you think about
him and Aaron Judge breaking in at the same time,
and all of a sudden, now he was Cody Bellinger
on his third team. Like it's been good, but it's
not been great, Like this is a great That's one

of the things I like to do the most at
All Star Games is take a look at specific guys
that that make headline. You look at their careers and
you and you see them in a very very small
sample size, and and you start to ask and answer
a lot of questions about their careers, what they've been doing.
And the guys tonight really are Cease and Bellinger, right,
the ones that are doing that well we have a
bigger point to make about the pitching overall. But like
(12:50):
the two big names coming out of the game tonight
when you go, man, Dylan Cees is just that kind
of dude. And and and I don't understand how is
e ra is near five every other year?
Speaker 2 (12:59):
Right?
Speaker 1 (12:59):
And Codyllinger, like you know here he is All Star
game MVP. And how is he not still a Dodger?
How is he not still hitting in the middle of
that lineup? How is it not still a West Coast
East coast rivalry with Aaron Judge? Like, how is that
not still happening? Like to me, those are the most
interesting things coming off the game.

Oh you break you guys that have been around and
get their long road back into an All Star birth
right Bellinger last was there in twenty nineteen. For Dylan Cees.
One of the other things trending about him the fact
that there was a two hundred and fiftieth USA patch
on those Toronto Blue Chasers.

Toronto has been around for I mean, the Canada has
been around for a long time.

it's a foul, but I still hated it. I still
hated it because what is the defender supposed to do? Right,
jam All comes from behind him. He's trying to turn
and kick the ball and get it out, and I
get that, Okay, it's a high kick and it's a
roundhouse kind of kick, but the ball is coming down.
He's in the spot for it, and Yamal doesn't really

make a play for the ball even though he touched.

He just goes in. He does the SGA. I'm going
in for contact.

I know what's in the space.

He gets kicked, Yeah, but where's he touched the ball?

This is this is four years of planning and playing
and here is a play where it's not advantage for
either team. I don't know what you expect the defender
to do, especially when when you All comes in and
just tries to create contact, right like SGA when I say,
you know, he goes into the lane, he's got no prayer,
but I'm gonna create contact. I'm going to the free
(22:08):
throw line, right like. That was the plan, And that
decided the semi final of the World Cup. That decided
four years for France and four years for Spain. That
one play. I get the call, but I hate it.
At the same time, I respect the hell out of
him all it's the best plays made in the World Cup.
He's had a disappointing World Cup overall, but again, he's
(22:29):
nineteen years old, but not many players would have the
wherewithal And I love when heady players can anticipate plays
and see things like I really appreciate that in the
game because many guys would have just hung back, would
have stopped running, would have tried to just get in
the way of it, to try to deflect the ball
after it's kicked out, or they you know, I'm not
gonna get involved in a physical play, and he saw
(22:51):
if I go and get involved here and I create contact,
I might get a penalty because it's in the box.
And that's exactly what happened, right. That's a play that
you know, seventy five eighty ninety percent of the other
strikers and other big forwards other players wouldn't think to
make but he goes to make it. So I give
him the nod because he makes an incredibly heady play
and he does that at the same time, like I said,
(23:13):
I get all of that. I hate that that was
a pedal. I hate that was a pedal. I hate
that that decided the game.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Yeah, I think ultimately you had ninety plus minutes to
do something else and France did zero, So you know,
he it is a play. Obviously, a goal is huge.
For as stingy as Spain's defense has been. I just
didn't like to play by the defender like it was.
(23:38):
It was a terrible decision to not play the ball
and wait, not having any spatial awareness, not looking, he
had no idea what go around.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
Thought he had Spain.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
He was by himself, so I could do this roundhouse.
I kind of went fruit and ninja kind of thing,
thinking he was gonna slice it in half was what
I was going for there. But he goes and he
turns and like, oh wait, this guy's body is suddenly there, Like, dude,
you played how many soccer games that how many times
can you legit in the box? Would you play a

ball like that? No, you don't ever like you bring
it down, you pass back to the goalie, you kick
it out about whatever the case is to think that
he that he in his mind would have enough space
to do that roundhouse do look tick? No matter how
many times I've watched, he's.
Speaker 1 (24:33):
Thinking, I can get this out of trouble. I have
to get it out of here, and this is the
way to do it. If I wait, if I try
to if I try to play it off the bounts,
if I try to trap it, if I try anything,
someone's gonna get on me. There's no time for me
to get this cleanly. Someone's then gonna get out. So
I need to kind of one time this to try
to get it out. So so I get what he
was thinking of. I understand what he was thinking on that.
(24:56):
I just don't know what people expect with you know,
if your back is to somebody and someone comes from
behind you to turn around, like I said, I get
it's a penalty.
Speaker 4 (25:06):
I get it away and I get it all.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
I just hate that that was a play because it
didn't give advantage if if it if it stopped an advantage.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
For Spain, I get it. Right.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
If if if Jamal had a clear path of the
ball and he was after the ball, I get if
he and Yamal were were jostling for position and that happened,
I get it. If it was such a play where
Spain wasn't gonna get control of it, and and they could,
and and you can see that that I'm sorry that
that that France wasn't gonna control it and Spain would
get in the box. I get, I get all of
(25:39):
those things. But there was no advantage there, There was
no play. It looked like it was gonna be a
play where the ball's gonna bounce high in the air,
someone's gonna grab it, and and that is what winds
up deciding the World Cup. And for for France, a
team that had run through everybody the way they did,
and for Spain, a team that, look, these are two
of the best four teams overall. And again this is
four years that comes down to a whistle where yeah,
(26:00):
here's a play that didn't really stop a scoring opportunity
and it winds up being something that is a penalty.

I just I didn't like it that way.

Well in the end, if you randomly kick a guy
again as a penalty.

Yeah, but I mean it's coming from behind.

I'm going to turn it and all of a sudden,
oh here we are. Hey, you know what soccer works
that way? The guy may come up, but he ran
into the Let me ask you, this, is it an
unwritten rule that as an attacker you're supposed to quit
on the play? No, no, no, I look, I say
he made But that's what I mean is that as
a defender again, you've got to mind your space and

recognize objects and mirror maybe closing on you pretty fast,
but especially but he didn't.

Go for the ball.

He hit the ball hit him, I know, But he
just ran to run into the kick and the ball
happened to hit him. Like It's not like he ran
to where the ball is. I'm gonna stop, right know.
He ran into the kick like I'm gonna get kicked.
You heard of roughing the kicker. This was kicking the
rough I mean he right, So I mean that's what
you had.

Hey, you know, he wore one for the team and
he got to the ball before he got kicked.

After review, roughing the kicker has become kicking the roffer penalty,
red car, I don't to say that ruffing the kicker
is kicking the roffer penalty, right, and he points the
spot right there, right there. Now, the other part of
this is that, again we've said this a couple of times,
but now to have a wide angle lens of the

United States lost to Belgium, you can feel better about
the United States losing after today because what happened to
France and how France came out for this game is
exactly what happened to the United States. France came out poorly.
They came out they look nervous, right, they didn't. They
(27:47):
didn't look like they were the same French team that
we had seen throughout the first three and a half
weeks of the tournament. Right, okay Ola Sa was terrible. Right,
he had the worst game that he's played throughout the
entire tournament. He's one of their top three players.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
Right.
Speaker 1 (28:04):
You saw after the game and Boppe said, I disagree
with the tactics that we had. I don't think we
had great tactics and the you know, the French coaches,
his last game, and they were trying to become the
first team to go to three straight World Cup finals.
It's disarray for France after this game. But nobody is
saying this is it. We have to have sweeping changes
and we have to redo the entire youth system in
(28:24):
France to get better players in here. No, France picked
a bad time to have a bad game. All of
the things that happened to France today happened to the
United States going into the Belgium game. Now, am I
saying the United States and France are the same teams? No,
But United States coming into a game against Belgium that
should have been a toss up type game just like
France and Spain should have been a toss up type game.
(28:46):
But Spain dominie because France came out so poorly. The
United States all three goals were our fault. We came
out flat. Belgium knew and they give Belgium credit. They
played well, just like Spain played well. But we were
our own worst enemy. We had a bad game. That's
not the team we were the first two and a
half weeks of the of the of the World Cup,
so to But yet for us it's we need a
(29:07):
completely new youth system we needed, we need a new
head coaching all these things. No, you just need the
general changes that happen after a World Cup. Okay, the
coach is pretty good a right, Remember where we were
four years ago after Burhol Do you really want to
go through that search for a coach again. I think
the coach is good. I think we have the building
blocks of three or four players that are world class players,
Balligan and Freeman and Tillman, some of the gold the
(29:30):
Golden Generation. Yeah, I'm ready to say goodbye to because
one thing for them the last near decade is that
they come out flat way too often. And it is Polisic,
this is McKenny, this is this is a lot of
other guys, you know what. I've seen enough of them.
I've seen enough of them playing poorly because they come
out of a game flat. So it's time for new players.
I've always said it's easier to get them, to get
(29:51):
players that are more mentally tougher than it is to
get players who are physically tougher. Right, The physical stuff
we're okay with now we have to play. The physical
talent of the players is good. It's the men part
of it. It's just a natural progression of Okay, the
United States.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
We won our group.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
We don't usually win our group, right, we made it.
We want a knockout round game. We don't usually win
a knockout round. Okay, we did pretty well, but yet
we lose, and it's, oh my goodness, we had to
change everything. No, this is just in the light of
day again having this far, you know, another week back
going Okay, well, all right, Belgium really played Spain tough.
(30:24):
That was really difficult. Man, Belgium. If they didn't have
their backup keeper in maybe they would have tied Spain.
Look how good Spain is. And if we played our
normal game, we might have beaten Belgium. Now you have France.
The exact same thing happened. Sometimes teams come out badly,
even in big games, even in semi final games of
the World Cup. It happens this way in soccer. So yeah,
(30:44):
it's not quite the doom and gloom.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
Again.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
We had a bad time for a bad game, but
this is not Let's tear it all down and start over.
It's okay, what worked, and let's just move into twenty third.

I think I'm gonna try to use an analogy. We
were talking about manifest destiny and Mike Grades and all
this stuff. The French have gotten all the way west
and they got their gold right, they've won before. For
the United States, this was the hey, we're moving along.
Hey did we ever hear back from Ralph and his
group of people that we're heading out west? And then
(31:14):
they find him. I guess that's as far as they got.
And we're all feeling a little bit peckish and having
our issues here things about as far as we're gonna get,
and you're said, and it's leather rinse, repeat kind of
thing here and you fall, and that's where you set
up your tents and plant your flag, because that's as
(31:36):
far as you got. So for France, since they won before,
since they were runners up before, all that, you don't
have to tear it all down, because you know what
it's like to win. For the United States, we had
a couple of games where it looked good. We had
a couple of games it looked great. Ballagan talking today saying, yeah,
everybody seemed kind of rattled and we're out of sorts. Okay, cool,
(31:57):
but that's persistent. We have solved that issue.
Speaker 1 (32:01):
Yet we just fifteen team looking to be a top
ten and that's and that's doable.
Speaker 2 (32:06):
But that's the thing though, what's that gap? I don't know.
I don't because we played so miserable.

We had played so well up until we played and
we made our rock analogy.

We played a bunch of bumps. No, I don't. I
don't think it was.

I don't think Belgium did anything for Matt Freese to
kick the back of the ground like young wayku Okay,
I don't think that was Matt Freeze.

They were in his head. I don't.

I don't think it was.

I don't think it was Belgium where Tim Ream decided
to guard nobody and give away that first goal.

Right, They were smart enough to let us implode and
then just mocked us as we had possession of Belgium.

Belgium saw the first ten minutes. They're not ready for
this game, right, we heard, We heard that had a
really bad warm up, the United States bad warm up,
all the stuff. Yes, I get Belgium didn't do anything
other than no, okay, we control this game. They're not
ready for this, right, Okay, But this doesn't mean that
all of a sudden our talent is way that we
gotta we gotta just blow it up and start over again.
This is this is not a team that, this is

not an NFL. It's not like the Jets, where every
couple have just got to blow it up and start over.

passes the Senate, we're gonna have no more daylight saving time.
We're something we try to the seventies for a couple
of years, getting in a day in the seventies. Yeah,
lots of things, Yeah, some wild seventies stuff. Yeah, some experimental.

It what you will get.

But like I saw this graphic today of the United States. Okay,
if we adopt no more daylight savings time, here's what
time in the winter the sun would rise across the
United States, and like the earliest it would rise anywhere
would be like eight o'clock, like here in La with
the sunrise would be at eight thirty, like in North
Dakota at nine to forty, Like really, it's it's gonna

be dark until nine to forty in the morning in North.

Dako and then twenty minutes later you get kickoff of
an NFL.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Let's you know, let's go come. I mean, like I
would love to have it be a little bit lighter
at night. Yeah, that's kind of cool, right, that's kind
of cool. But like I think about I think about like,
you know, chilly morning traffic, well, and kids going to
school to chill, you know, taking the bus at seven
am and pitch dark, right, or people who are getting
up early in the morning to drive their kids to

school where they're tired, and and okay, you want to
make sure that the driving conditions are as favorable for
the early morning drivers as they can be when everybody's
just waking up. And I don't think you want people
to just go, oh, yeah, it's a night time out.
I can't really see that. Well yeah, and I don't
know about that, man.

I think it'll end up shifting school start times. I
mean there might be a lot of ramifications. School now
starts at noon and it gets done at six pm,
so I don't have to call it. You don't get
to call it sick for the prices right anymore. But
if we can get to go it after it's over.
But wait now, but what if we did standard time? Like,
can we do that?

Is it still a vote that we could either do
daylight savings or standard time, because standard would be you know,
an hour early. It's like it's seven o'clock between six
and seven, and that's you.

little bit more doable.

It's okay, it's getting light out at seven o'clock in
the morning instead of you know, eight thirty.

Compromise with something we do really well in this nation
of ours, it'll be great.

I mean, I don't worry so much about the well
the effect on your body. You know, I've been working
nights since I was out of college. I don't care.
There's no difference between ten thirty eleven o'clock eleven thirty.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
I don't care. But everybody keep trying to crawl back
to daylight.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
I think the body clocks everybody would be Okay, we
do it all this time, cough, right, we do it
all the time. We do daylight saving time. We change
the clocks twice a year. Everybody's body clocks changes. We
do it all the time. I don't worry about that
so much when when I see scientists or or people
purport to be signed has gone, this is gonna be
the change? What is the moon gonna fall? Like, Okay,
that's not gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Let you also, I mean you do this just going
between time zones. If you get out a flight, yeah,
mom and dad in the car.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
But just trying to run early morning stuff and rush
hour in the dark, it's it's kind of difficult, man,
it's kind of tough.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
I mean then, and the coyotes are still out, so
if you're trying to walk your dog, yeah, I mean
this might be like when you're in Jaws and the
guys looking for his little dog.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
No, we got coyotes. And like our neighborhood's like wild Kingdom.
Like I go out to take the dogs, takes Benny
and Bailey out for a walk at night, like, oh
there's possums, there's so there's coyotes. It's like I don't
need to go to the zoo. I just walk outside
my house and see.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Whatever I need.

And the jungle in the school near our neighborhood. The
geese own the big field for most of the day,
right The geese show up at like between three thirty
and four o'clock and they sit out there, and then
around six o'clock the skunks decide, hey, you guys are done.

I'm looking at the time. You're wrap.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
You only have the field till six. The skunks come out,
the geese fly away. It's like, okay, that's what it is.

I mean, yeah, I don't like who gets the who's
down the third shift though, I don't know. The coyotes
teak out, man, all of a sudden, it's like everybody,
everybody scatter, everybody scatter out. I mean, I don't know
if I feel like, Okay, I don't mind doing, you know,
changing the clocks back, okay, And and and I like sometimes.

Having it be very light out at night.

I understand during the winter it's gonna be a little
bit dark, so it's gonna be colder because there's gonna
be no sun out.

better the last few weeks. Zra is like under two
and a half. But like watching Dylan Seeks tonight going
through the top of the National League border, I go,
how how does he give up a run?

No, he's been fantastic And then hell of a career.

Ray was almost five. Last year was four, the year

it was up at four, you know, the first couple
of years of the White Sox, like he was supposed
to be one of the great pitchers in baseball, and
generally you can say he's he's he's been healthy the
last six seven years, right, he's been able to you know,
pick and I don't know watching that, watching this stuff,

I go, man, how does he give up any runs?
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Takes the ball every fifth day. You're looking at thirty
two or more starts, and what six straight seasons you
have the seven and nine season from twenty twenty three
before that twenty seven and fifteen for the White Sox.
He had that brilliant twenty twenty two season where it
was a two point two ERA fourteen and eight on

the season, but overall two point nine strikeouts per walk.
You look at his overall totals. Uh, he's been fantasy.

It's the you make give up hits, uh, the untimely right,
the one bad hit. And you played with the team
that also, uh didn't score a lot of runs for
a number of years. I don't know if you remember that,
uh with the White Sox these last couple of years,
because I mean we're in the the high times now,
we're living high.

We're living a high now. But he's had a two
five six ERA this year, three seven seven first career.
Remember we lost one hundred and twenty games a couple
of years ago.

to see so well. We talked about Cody Bellinger last
hour on the show, Going Boy. Good for him winning
sure the All Star MVP, but his career really wasn't
what it was supposed to be. When you think about
him and Aaron Judge breaking in at the same time,
and all of a sudden, now he was Cody Bellinger
on his third team. Like it's been good, but it's
not been great, Like this is a great That's one

of the things I like to do the most at
All Star Games is take a look at specific guys
that that make headline. You look at their careers and
you and you see them in a very very small
sample size, and and you start to ask and answer
a lot of questions about their careers, what they've been doing.
And the guys tonight really are Cease and Bellinger, right,
the ones that are doing that well we have a
bigger point to make about the pitching overall. But like
(12:50):
the two big names coming out of the game tonight
when you go, man, Dylan Cees is just that kind
of dude. And and and I don't understand how is
e ra is near five every other year?

Right?
Speaker 1 (12:59):
And Codyllinger, like you know here he is All Star
game MVP. And how is he not still a Dodger?
How is he not still hitting in the middle of
that lineup? How is it not still a West Coast
East coast rivalry with Aaron Judge? Like, how is that
not still happening? Like to me, those are the most
interesting things coming off the game.

Oh you break you guys that have been around and
get their long road back into an All Star birth
right Bellinger last was there in twenty nineteen. For Dylan Cees.
One of the other things trending about him the fact

second half in the fifty ninth minute, but they would
have won one nothing without that because France just did
not play well.

It was not their day, no question about it. But

And that's the thing is, like I get that, it's
a foul. I get it right. The ball was coming
down the defender Dnie tried to clear it out. Jamal
comes from behind him, doesn't really try to go for
the ball, just runs into where Dinie is kicking, and

of course he draws the foul. Now, I get it,
it's a foul, but I still hated it. I still
hated it because what is the defender supposed to do? Right,
jam All comes from behind him. He's trying to turn
and kick the ball and get it out, and I
get that, Okay, it's a high kick and it's a
roundhouse kind of kick, but the ball is coming down.
He's in the spot for it, and Yamal doesn't really

make a play for the ball even though he touched.

He just goes in. He does the SGA. I'm going
in for contact.

This is this is four years of planning and playing
and here is a play where it's not advantage for
either team. I don't know what you expect the defender
to do, especially when when you All comes in and
just tries to create contact, right like SGA when I say,
you know, he goes into the lane, he's got no prayer,
but I'm gonna create contact. I'm going to the free

throw line, right like. That was the plan, And that
decided the semi final of the World Cup. That decided
four years for France and four years for Spain. That
one play. I get the call, but I hate it.
At the same time, I respect the hell out of
him all it's the best plays made in the World Cup.
He's had a disappointing World Cup overall, but again, he's
(22:29):
nineteen years old, but not many players would have the
wherewithal And I love when heady players can anticipate plays
and see things like I really appreciate that in the
game because many guys would have just hung back, would
have stopped running, would have tried to just get in
the way of it, to try to deflect the ball
after it's kicked out, or they you know, I'm not
gonna get involved in a physical play, and he saw
(22:51):
if I go and get involved here and I create contact,
I might get a penalty because it's in the box.
And that's exactly what happened, right. That's a play that
you know, seventy five eighty ninety percent of the other
strikers and other big forwards other players wouldn't think to
make but he goes to make it. So I give
him the nod because he makes an incredibly heady play
and he does that at the same time, like I said,
(23:13):
I get all of that. I hate that that was
a pedal. I hate that was a pedal. I hate
that that decided the game.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Yeah, I think ultimately you had ninety plus minutes to
do something else and France did zero, So you know,
he it is a play. Obviously, a goal is huge.
For as stingy as Spain's defense has been. I just
didn't like to play by the defender like it was.
(23:38):
It was a terrible decision to not play the ball
and wait, not having any spatial awareness, not looking, he
had no idea what go around.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
Thought he had Spain.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
He was by himself, so I could do this roundhouse.
I kind of went fruit and ninja kind of thing,
thinking he was gonna slice it in half was what
I was going for there. But he goes and he
turns and like, oh wait, this guy's body is suddenly there, Like, dude,
you played how many soccer games that how many times
can you legit in the box? Would you play a
(24:12):
ball like that? No, you don't ever like you bring
it down, you pass back to the goalie, you kick
it out about whatever the case is to think that
he that he in his mind would have enough space
to do that roundhouse do look tick? No matter how
many times I've watched, he's.
Speaker 1 (24:33):
Thinking, I can get this out of trouble. I have
to get it out of here, and this is the
way to do it. If I wait, if I try
to if I try to play it off the bounts,
if I try to trap it, if I try anything,
someone's gonna get on me. There's no time for me
to get this cleanly. Someone's then gonna get out. So
I need to kind of one time this to try
to get it out. So so I get what he
was thinking of. I understand what he was thinking on that.
(24:56):
I just don't know what people expect with you know,
if your back is to somebody and someone comes from
behind you to turn around, like I said, I get
it's a penalty.
Speaker 4 (25:06):
I get it away and I get it all.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
I just hate that that was a play because it
didn't give advantage if if it if it stopped an advantage.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
For Spain, I get it. Right.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
If if if Jamal had a clear path of the
ball and he was after the ball, I get if
he and Yamal were were jostling for position and that happened,
I get it. If it was such a play where
Spain wasn't gonna get control of it, and and they could,
and and you can see that that I'm sorry that
that that France wasn't gonna control it and Spain would
get in the box. I get, I get all of
(25:39):
those things. But there was no advantage there, There was
no play. It looked like it was gonna be a
play where the ball's gonna bounce high in the air,
someone's gonna grab it, and and that is what winds
up deciding the World Cup. And for for France, a
team that had run through everybody the way they did,
and for Spain, a team that, look, these are two
of the best four teams overall. And again this is
four years that comes down to a whistle where yeah,
(26:00):
here's a play that didn't really stop a scoring opportunity
and it winds up being something that is a penalty.
Speaker 5 (26:06):
Right.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
I just I didn't like it that way.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
Well in the end, if you randomly kick a guy
again as a penalty.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
Yeah, but I mean it's coming from behind.

What do you expect, right, You're coming from behind and
I'm going to turn it and all of a sudden,
oh here we are. Hey, you know what soccer works
that way? The guy may come up, but he ran
into the Let me ask you, this, is it an
unwritten rule that as an attacker you're supposed to quit
on the play? No, no, no, I look, I say
he made But that's what I mean is that as
a defender again, you've got to mind your space and

recognize objects and mirror maybe closing on you pretty fast,
but especially but he didn't.

Go for the ball.
Speaker 1 (26:44):
He hit the ball hit him, I know, But he
just ran to run into the kick and the ball
happened to hit him. Like It's not like he ran
to where the ball is. I'm gonna stop, right know.
He ran into the kick like I'm gonna get kicked.
You heard of roughing the kicker. This was kicking the
rough I mean he right, So I mean that's what
you had.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
Hey, you know, he wore one for the team and
he got to the ball before he got kicked.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
After review, roughing the kicker has become kicking the roffer penalty,
red car, I don't to say that ruffing the kicker
is kicking the roffer penalty, right, and he points the
spot right there, right there. Now, the other part of
this is that, again we've said this a couple of times,
but now to have a wide angle lens of the
(27:26):
United States lost to Belgium, you can feel better about
the United States losing after today because what happened to
France and how France came out for this game is
exactly what happened to the United States. France came out poorly.
They came out they look nervous, right, they didn't. They
(27:47):
didn't look like they were the same French team that
we had seen throughout the first three and a half
weeks of the tournament. Right, okay Ola Sa was terrible. Right,
he had the worst game that he's played throughout the
entire tournament. He's one of their top three players.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
Right.
Speaker 1 (28:04):
You saw after the game and Boppe said, I disagree
with the tactics that we had. I don't think we
had great tactics and the you know, the French coaches,
his last game, and they were trying to become the
first team to go to three straight World Cup finals.
It's disarray for France after this game. But nobody is
saying this is it. We have to have sweeping changes
and we have to redo the entire youth system in
(28:24):
France to get better players in here. No, France picked
a bad time to have a bad game. All of
the things that happened to France today happened to the
United States going into the Belgium game. Now, am I
saying the United States and France are the same teams? No,
But United States coming into a game against Belgium that
should have been a toss up type game just like
France and Spain should have been a toss up type game.
(28:46):
But Spain dominie because France came out so poorly. The
United States all three goals were our fault. We came
out flat. Belgium knew and they give Belgium credit. They
played well, just like Spain played well. But we were
our own worst enemy. We had a bad game. That's
not the team we were the first two and a
half weeks of the of the of the World Cup,
so to But yet for us it's we need a
(29:07):
completely new youth system we needed, we need a new
head coaching all these things. No, you just need the
general changes that happen after a World Cup. Okay, the
coach is pretty good a right, Remember where we were
four years ago after Burhol Do you really want to
go through that search for a coach again. I think
the coach is good. I think we have the building
blocks of three or four players that are world class players,
Balligan and Freeman and Tillman, some of the gold the
(29:30):
Golden Generation. Yeah, I'm ready to say goodbye to because
one thing for them the last near decade is that
they come out flat way too often. And it is Polisic,
this is McKenny, this is this is a lot of
other guys, you know what. I've seen enough of them.
I've seen enough of them playing poorly because they come
out of a game flat. So it's time for new players.
I've always said it's easier to get them, to get
(29:51):
players that are more mentally tougher than it is to
get players who are physically tougher. Right, The physical stuff
we're okay with now we have to play. The physical
talent of the players is good. It's the men part
of it. It's just a natural progression of Okay, the
United States.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
We won our group.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
We don't usually win our group, right, we made it.
We want a knockout round game. We don't usually win
a knockout round. Okay, we did pretty well, but yet
we lose, and it's, oh my goodness, we had to
change everything. No, this is just in the light of
day again having this far, you know, another week back
going Okay, well, all right, Belgium really played Spain tough.
(30:24):
That was really difficult. Man, Belgium. If they didn't have
their backup keeper in maybe they would have tied Spain.
Look how good Spain is. And if we played our
normal game, we might have beaten Belgium. Now you have France.
The exact same thing happened. Sometimes teams come out badly,
even in big games, even in semi final games of
the World Cup. It happens this way in soccer. So yeah,
(30:44):
it's not quite the doom and gloom.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
Again.
Speaker 1 (30:46):
We had a bad time for a bad game, but
this is not Let's tear it all down and start over.
It's okay, what worked, and let's just move into twenty third.
Speaker 2 (30:54):
I think I'm gonna try to use an analogy. We
were talking about manifest destiny and Mike Grades and all
this stuff. The French have gotten all the way west
and they got their gold right, they've won before. For
the United States, this was the hey, we're moving along.
Hey did we ever hear back from Ralph and his
group of people that we're heading out west? And then
(31:14):
they find him. I guess that's as far as they got.
And we're all feeling a little bit peckish and having
our issues here things about as far as we're gonna get,
and you're said, and it's leather rinse, repeat kind of
thing here and you fall, and that's where you set
up your tents and plant your flag, because that's as
(31:36):
far as you got. So for France, since they won before,
since they were runners up before, all that, you don't
have to tear it all down, because you know what
it's like to win. For the United States, we had
a couple of games where it looked good. We had
a couple of games it looked great. Ballagan talking today saying, yeah,
everybody seemed kind of rattled and we're out of sorts. Okay, cool,
(31:57):
but that's persistent. We have solved that issue.
Speaker 1 (32:01):
Yet we just fifteen team looking to be a top
ten and that's and that's doable.
Speaker 2 (32:06):
But that's the thing though, what's that gap? I don't know.
I don't because we played so miserable.

We had played so well up until we played and
we made our rock analogy.
Speaker 2 (32:19):
We played a bunch of bumps. No, I don't. I
don't think it was.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
I don't think Belgium did anything for Matt Freese to
kick the back of the ground like young wayku Okay,
I don't think that was Matt Freeze.

They were in his head. I don't.
Speaker 4 (32:30):
I don't think it was.

I don't think it was Belgium where Tim Ream decided
to guard nobody and give away that first goal.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
Right, They were smart enough to let us implode and
then just mocked us as we had possession of Belgium.

Belgium saw the first ten minutes. They're not ready for
this game, right, we heard, We heard that had a
really bad warm up, the United States bad warm up,
all the stuff. Yes, I get Belgium didn't do anything
other than no, okay, we control this game. They're not
ready for this, right, Okay, But this doesn't mean that
all of a sudden our talent is way that we
gotta we gotta just blow it up and start over again.
This is this is not a team that, this is

not an NFL. It's not like the Jets, where every
couple have just got to blow it up and start over.
