You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello, Welcome inside final hour tonight the Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Hippie Kaye. Tyrack dot com help you get there.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirec dot com is
the way tire buying should be. Well, you want a
great story that involves the NFL, the coaching carousel, the NBA,
(01:00):
Dion Sanders, Shadore Sanders, and a jacket.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
It's the most exciting thing to come out of this
game other than the performance of Jamal Murray was on fire.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
They just spoiler, don't spoil it. I'm teas that's setting
it up. What possibly talking about? We're talking about this game?
Just he Benoan Blanc just just give me a second. Okay,
I solved it, Edward Norton, I suspect foul played. Oh,
spoiler on glass Onion. Way to go there, you go
spoil it.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
If you haven't watched it by now, then you really
didn't give a dam. Let's just abbreviate this moment. Okay.
So tonight the Nuggets played.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
The Mavericks and the Mavericks did not play well. But
that that's irrelevant. So iro An Eagle and Greg Anthony
are doing the game for T and T and Greg
Anthony is wearing a jacket that is black and white
and it's got a it's a it's a white jacket,
right because at the base is white, but the blazer's
(01:59):
got a diamond, a black diamond pattern. It's a good
look at all over it. Now, it's one of those
jackets that I don't know if you wear it on TV,
because I think it's like, whoa, that might not look
like we got to do some stuff rippy. Yeah, they
well know that the technical side of TV is like, oh,
that jacket's gonna be really hot, the video levels are
going to be hot.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
We got to do stuff.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
So I don't know how friendly of a television jacket
it is. But it's a jacket and that's what It's
a white blazer and it's got black diamond decent good
sized black diamonds all over it. Back, Okay, Dion Sanders
tweeted out watching the game, apparently I need that blazer
that Greg Anthony has on tonight on NBA on TNT.
(02:40):
And this is the most mentioned that a either a
singular or plural Blazer or Blazers has actually gotten in
the NBA in quite a long time. Just just so
we know, this is the first time we've talked about
the Blazer or Blazers this much in a while. But
somehow that tweets only got three hundred and three thousand views. Well,
people don't dian, I don't know, man, I should he
(03:03):
get the blazer? Should he not? So he says, I
need the blaze. Are you sure it was black? He's
sure it wasn't blue.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Yeah, I was. Well here's the thing. It might be
some about the draft, might be silver, might be silver.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
So he tweets out, I really need that blazer that
Greg Anthony has on tonight, and people start paying attention
to it. It the the evidence of this tweet makes
its way to Iron Eagle and Greg Anthony, who decide
to help Dion in his endeavor to get Greg Anthony's blazer.
(03:35):
Here's what happened from the broadcast on NBA on TNT And.
Speaker 5 (03:39):
Apparently Jared is now taking your jacket.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
I think he'll give it to Shod to get his dad.
Speaker 5 (03:45):
He's giving it to Chadur. Chador is very perplexed. Jared
is not explaining to him, your dad tweeted that he's
gonna want that jacket. Jared is saying, take the jacket.
Shador said, for real, he said, yes, this is your
jacket now, Okay, I got.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
You, Yes, thank you.
Speaker 5 (04:08):
That happened. Shad Door now was looking at it like seriously,
I gotta now.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
So that's exactly what happened, Greg Anthony. Because Shador Sanders
is court side at the Dallas and maw about how
you feeling right now, Dak Prescott, you feel you're feel
ensconced as Dallas Dallas Cowboys quarterback next year with Hey,
Jerry is talking to Dion and here's Shador at the
game tonight.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
Huh, I feel like, what are you doing? Looked at
that jacket, that blazer like it was a jets Jersey.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Shaudor looks at this like he has no idea what's
going on, Like he's it's a time out on the court,
and Chador is on his phone and all of a sudden,
you know, the sideline reporter goes over and starts explaining
it to him, like like, this is what's going on?
Your dad tweeted he wants the jacket. Greg Anthony is
giving you this jacket so you.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Can see it.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Go over and explain to Shador what's going on. And
Shadur sits there and listens for a few seconds, and
then he just goes huh, trying to figure out what
the hell's going on?
Speaker 3 (05:08):
What are you telling me?
Speaker 1 (05:09):
And then they cut you a picture of a guy
wearing a beekeeper outfit. Uh yeah, he didn't want that outfit.
Didn't want that out did not no, no, just want
just wanted this.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
I'm trying to lip read here, guys.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
So so he I feel like Shador even says to
him at the end, what what what do you want
me to do with this? Like I think he was
just so taken taken by surprising, what do you want
me to do with this? So I gotta give this
to my dad. What the he I think he says,
who the hell's Greg am? I think he say, wait
a minute, is this gonna be? Is this part of
(05:39):
my signing bonus? That's what he says. I see it
right there. So Shador, who just so happens to be
in a Dallas Mavericks game a day after Dallas Cowboys
owner Jerry Jones is talking to Dion sander is about
the head coaching job. Now, this is a nice moment
right here. This is this is a nice moment. But
let me just say this, because I've been doing this
(06:00):
for a minute, what are the odds that this is
something that completely happened out of the blue? Deon just
happened to be watching the game, and Greg Anthony just
happened to say, yes, I'll give this jersey. Oh, and
I can give it to Shador Sanders, who is here
at the Dallas Mavericks game. I mean, is this is
this kind of a foreshadow of Hey guys, I'm coming,
(06:22):
I'm coming, I'm coming here yet. Oh, Shador's at the game.
He's sitting in courtside. This is fantastic.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Yeah, Like I said, I've been doing this a minute.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
I know that This is just a suddenly Hey, what
an amazingly hey out of the blue story.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
This is Yeah, I don't know. Deon tweets it out.
They decide, yeah, how do we get it to you? Boy?
Speaker 1 (06:41):
It's like, oh, just lucky that your son is here.
While you're talking to the Jerry Jones about being the
head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (06:50):
Well, I mean it was a big game. I mean,
Denver's in town. You can see Nicola Jokic, you can
see greatness up close. Jamal Murray puts on a show.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
Everybody's asking me, how do I know that Dion's going
to get the job.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
And we set up a signal to make it know.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
And I said, okay, if you ask for Greg Anthony's
jacket on the game tomorrow night, then I know you're
coming to Dallas.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
Then I know it.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
That's the signal. And you figure out your business with Colorado.
We'll figure out our business here in Dallas, and we'll
have a contract to you in a couple of days.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
But you got to give me a signal.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
You got to give me a sign because I can't
have people taking my cell phone going, oh, here's a call.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
It says coach prime on it.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
And because it's right there with a picture of you
back when you were playing for us and I was
paying you a lot of money. So you let me know.
If you asked for Greg Anthony's jacket, I know you're coming.
If you don't, if you ask for Iron Eagles jacket,
I know you're staying in Colorado. So that's how we'll
do it. You ask for Greg's jacket, you're coming to us.
If Jack, we're gonna go.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
Okay. So that's how we do it right there, all right?
So now want why is jacket here?
Speaker 1 (07:51):
And if you ask for Noah Eagles jacket, that means
you're retiring, okay, So just don't do that.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
What if he'd asked for the black turtleneck, then Greg
Anthony had on under the jacket.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
I need the jacket. I need the turtleneck, and I
need that gold chain too. But like, shootres the look
on his He's like, I gotta carry this thing now? Yeah,
now the hell? Yeah, I'm surprised you didn't put it on.
I'm gonna put it on. If I was, I could
put this on, I could wear this. Why not? It
would have been nice?
Speaker 1 (08:19):
He hangs it over the back of his chair and
he finally gets what's going on. And I think he
finally gets what's going on. He puts on the back.
I'm sure the first thing he detect His dad is like,
what the hell is this man?
Speaker 3 (08:29):
What? What? What? What's going on? Dad? What are we
doing here? What are we doing? Well? We're really bringing
this to you, all right? Fun? Where are you dad? Hey?
Speaker 1 (08:36):
By the way, Dad, were if I'm bringing you this jacket,
you have to be close by, don't you. Where are
you Dad?
Speaker 4 (08:42):
You have a big meeting, you needed a new jacket
for it, and you surmised that you and Greg Anthony
wear the same size suit coat.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Well, I want to introduce you the new head coach
Dallas Cowboys. You may recognize the jacket from the game
the Mavericks got killed in. But right here, this is
the big moment, right and there's there's Deon O. Sorry,
it's Oler. It's him wearing Greg Anthony's jacket. The thing
is now, I got to pay Greg Anthony too, so
I had to buy the jacket from him. So instead
I made him the defensive coordinator. So you're all good.
(09:09):
D On Dion, Greg and the Eagle Kid can come
up too.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
He's gonna be a quality control special teams so uh
uh they got everybody coming in from the game. That
was the whole thing. It work and I'm trading back.
But right now here, here's a new head coach, Deon
Sanders coach Prime.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
He's back in.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
Well, they overlapped, right he and uh did he and
Jason Kidd over overlap when he was playing for the Mavericks.
Uh and he was playing for the Cowboys. So it's
an old friend. So I need to take a little
bit of heat because his team got its ass kicked tonight.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
So let's make it about the jacket.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
You know, let's let's let's since this is so ridiculous,
let's take let's really.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
Sure right five ninety five through ninety nine for Dion
and kid came into the league in the early nineties
and was with Dallas.
Speaker 3 (09:59):
Yeah, they would have over laughed a couple of years.
Let me let me throw this draft and rookie cards.
Yeah there you go. Yeah, that's how you figured out
because you're the rookie card. I knew rookie guard.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
You even know something about years. Just ask Carmon about
the rookie cards.
Speaker 4 (10:15):
He has jocks drops, so only the Giant for that.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
Let me let me throw this out there, right, this
is ridiculous. Here's Shadere at the Mavericks game, right, just
happens to be there tonight. Okay, all right, what are
the odds that instead of Dion having to choose between
I could be the Cowboys head coach, which should be incredible,
(10:40):
or I could be the Raiders head coach and we
pick high enough. And if I'm the Raiders head coach,
everybody's gonna steer away from Shador Sanders so we can
get him at number six. Already, he's falling a little
bit off the uh you know, off the Raidar out
of the overall number one.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
But a Geon's there.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
No one's gonna, right, we said, LeVar ball effect. No
one's gonna take Shador while Dion could have him. They'll they'll,
they'll clear the decks so the Raiders can take your
door Sanders itself.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
LeVar right now is the king? All right?
Speaker 2 (11:06):
Right?
Speaker 4 (11:06):
Lonzo's back and playing Pamelos could and LiAngelo he's got
a number one hit.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
Yeah, that's got a million dollars day. He's the father
of the damn year. I don't know about that. He's
a king.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
He's had a.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
Long already got on the merch. Oh yeah, I should
be getting them soon. I ordered him.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
I ordered him seven years ago, and he said, shipping
is slow, so I expect to get finally getting there.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
I expect to get him soon.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
It won't belong to your ship comes in. No, that's
Clint Black, not to be confused with Alan Jackson. You
gotta listen to the whole shows.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
To Aali parton nine to five, waiting for the day
a ship will come in, trying to come alive. So
let me throw this out there. Okay, So instead of
Dion having to choose between I can coach Cowboys or
and coach the Raid and probably coach my kid.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
What if he can do both? Okay?
Speaker 1 (11:51):
Because if you're the Cowboys, you have Dak Prescott. You
need a high draft pick to get your Dora Sanders.
Are you calling team saying, Dak Prescott for your number
three pick, your number four pick, you number five pick, Hey,
tennessee Dak Prescott for this whatever it is here? And
then you hire Dion and you draft Shador Sanders and Tadah,
Diona and shadeor are in Dallas together and not the Raiders,
(12:14):
where people won't care. If it's the Raiders, what do
we care, They're really gonna win it's the Raiders. But
all of a sudden in Dallas, that could happen. I
know it sounds crazy, but throw that out there. If
you are a quarterback starve team and you know that, well,
well we know cam Ward Chador, We're not sure about
(12:35):
these guys. Well, here's Dak Prescott who's thirty years old.
You know what you're paying them for the next few years. Okay,
we can have a really good quarterback, right because Dak
Prescott is really good. He's not great, but he is
really good. You solve your quarterback problems next five or
six years at Dak Prescott. Hey, Dak for your number three,
pit number four, pick number for whatever it winds up being.
And if that happens, Dion is there and Shador Sanders
(12:58):
is taken by the Cowboys because again, no one's gonna
get in the Cowboys way of that happening. No one's
gonna draft Shadoor with Dion coaching another NFL team because
no one's gonna want to be in for the drama
of he's he going to listen to the coach, or
he's gonna listen to Dion. He's gonna listen to our
coach with what's gonna happen if he starts off poorly?
Or we're gonna have to worry about hearing Deon say
they're not using my son. Right, that's not the right
(13:19):
offense for him. I told him that all this different time.
No one is going to get in for that. It's
gonna be Deon near the coat, right. Okay, if we're
really sold that Shador is number one with a bullet
and he's the best quarterback prospect, it would be a
different story. But he's already starting to slide down draft
boards a little bit, and I think teams would be
okay with letting him slide to wherever Deon Sanders is
(13:40):
the head coach, Dion and schadeuor in Dallas together.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
Think about that.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
Now, Dak Prescott has no trade clause, so you got
to trade him to a place where he would want
to go, and it would be one hundred and to
one hundred and five million dollars dead cap hit.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
How about the Giants? How about the Giants? What does okay?
Because you have your quarterback in the first round. So
it's you're not going out to pay for it.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
I get it. So a little bit of dollar cost
averaging against that. We're talking about signing bonuses and you know, rookie,
but these guys fit it. They fit into the too,
the salary cap. So it's funny.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
I just like the way you're doing this.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
I like that. Huh yeah, all because of you know, hey,
Dion wanted a jacket, and then all by the way,
we just wantpen to be able to give it to
his son.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
Oh okay, what if you could trace that back to
a Super Bowl party where it was previously worn by
Jerry Jones.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
Oh I like that. I like, we're on the Cowboys bus.
Speaker 4 (14:29):
I got a picture of Frostburg in front of the
Cowboys bus from years ago.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
I don't tell people what I was doing to it.
I got that jacket back yard.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
No, no, that's that's between you and me and the
night nineteen eighty seven, I had that jacket made.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
It was had that had a big silver power tie.
I was able to wear that. I looked. I looked
really good. That's that.
Speaker 4 (14:47):
That was now in the interest of the trading card,
uh and game used event Warn Memorabilia.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
How do I get a swatch of that jacket?
Speaker 1 (14:59):
I don't know, but I'm just remembered that I was
at a party with the casts of the Facts of Life,
and uh, that was kind of fun. Me in the
middle of all of them. I'm wearing a jacket and
there's the Tuty and uh Nancy McKeon, and then there
was Huh Clooney was there too, but they wrote him
off the show because I said, you know, this guy's
character is not working.
Speaker 4 (15:19):
So they wrote him off because if we can get
Kim Fields into the picture, we've all won.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
Sure at Nancy McKeon, the crush ated Nancy McKeon. Oh
my god, I'm about to write you off. Jason Smith
show is my best friend? Mike at Kim Field's official

they're very light pants, T shirt.

It's not I've not had McDonald's in a month.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
Not a McDonald's a month. It is weird, though, I
don't want to call you all healthy now.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
I'm not giving me no choice. I've not had McDonald's.
And when have you seen me eat McDonald's in the month.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
That's a lie.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
I have not. Wow.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
And I gave you my macaroni and cheese tonight from
a Pyo loco. Mary, Hey bites. I'm proud of you, macarony.
Speaker 1 (19:51):

macaroni cheese that Harmon bought for me, I gave to you.
And now you're doing this, now you do this is
I'm treating me like Fredo. Now all right, great, thanks,
I gotta explain Lena got out, Uh fank about Alfredo
(20:12):
and that'll be okay. And TJ clearly in this scene
hoping for Fdicini al Fredo but not working out for him. Uh.
Speaker 3 (20:22):
It was a sunny day earlier, but now not so much.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
Ground Ball handled easy by Alfredo, grip and ground ball
dropped as the toll as the toll booth guy leans
down to.
Speaker 3 (20:37):
Get it, Sonny yesterday my life.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
So look, Mike Tomlin had his end of season press
conference today, and as is Mike Tomlin, he is usually
very gruff and very full of himself as he goes
forward into the future, especially coming off another year where
Pittsburgh was just good enough to lose a playoff game. Now,
we talked about how Tomlin could have been coaching for
(21:08):
his job last week because the all in on Russell Wilson.
These are his groceries that he has bought for this team,
These are his quarterbacks.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
And the Steelers still.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
Show you that they are a limited team and they
get thumped by the Ravens in a game that wasn't
as close as the final score indicates. Now, since this
has happened, as you would expect, hey, teams start calling
the Steelers about Mike Tomlin.
Speaker 3 (21:31):
Would you trade him? Because, believe it or not, Mike
Tomlin has a no trade club. He's got a no trade.
Speaker 4 (21:36):
Well, you get to get your perks in and you
can only boost your salaries so much, So what else
do you want?
Speaker 3 (21:43):
I got a no trade now, no trade club. You're
not trading me to the Jets forget it.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
So teams have been calling the Steelers, hey, would you
want to part ways with Mike Tomlin because it's been
a while. Things aren't getting better. The Steelers have been
for the last few years. Hey, hey, we're just good
enough to get it and then we're gonna lose a
game and go home. And that's not good enough in Pittsburgh.
When Tomlin was asked, hey, what about teams calling to
get you as their head coach to trade, here's what
(22:10):
Mike Tomlin's two second response was time, save your time.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
Well he was concise, save your time. Don't call brevity.
It's the soul of wit. They say, save your time.
I read that somewhere. Did you read?
Speaker 1 (22:24):
Was that in AJ Brown's book? So here's the issues
with with Mike Tomlin. Right, you want to know why
Pittsburgh needs to go in a different direction, I will
tell you. And the number one is that he is
very stubborn and he can't pick a quarterback right. Sometimes
some things coach is really good at some things they're not.
(22:44):
And he is always stubborn in his ways. In fact,
when he hears the me, I guarantee you the reason
he every time he heard more Justin Field needs to
be the Steelers quarterback. He ran in the Russell Wilson direction,
because that's kind of Mike when someone tells him what
he thinks you should be doing. I'm not gonna do
it just because you're telling me that, right, And I
know people that that happens to it, people with highly
(23:05):
successful business practices that do that. But the more you
say things one way, he's gonna go the other way.
But he is extremely stubborn when it comes to his
belief of how he wants to win games. But when
it comes to quarterbacks, he's not good picking them.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
Right.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
Kenny Pickett was terrible, Mitchell Trubisky was terrible. Russell Wilson
is washed. Justin Fields he didn't even get a chance,
and he was a guy the Bears didn't want. And
before you say, well, look at what Mike Thomlin did
with the team that was assembled, No, Mike Tomlin has
a pretty big say in what he wants for his
team and who's coming in to play quarterback. Right, he
let's go get Justin Fields and Russell Wilson, which is, dude,
(23:41):
you want a guy that a the Bears didn't want,
not the Bears didn't want.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
But generally you want to do the opposite of what
the Bears do. So I can understand why Fields eventually
showed up there.
Speaker 3 (23:52):
But if yeah, but they showed up there and they
were terrible.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
But it's it's like if you you try, you want
a guy the Bears didn't want, and then you said no, no,
So we want a guy the Broncos, and Sean Payton,
who's a Super Bowl champion, says no, We're gonna eat
over eighty million dollars of money to be away from
this guy.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
No, he's the guy that's gonna be our savior.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
Right. Mike Tomlin is stubborn. He doesn't know how to
pick quarterbacks. It's not his wheels. He was given Ben
Roethlisberger wasn't always his favorite person, didn't always get a
long sunshine, lollipops and rainbows, but they made it work right.
And this gets into further issues with Mike Tomlin is
that offensively the NFL has passed him by. It has
passed him by. He wants to win a very specific way.
(24:34):
He wants to win like it's nineteen eighty five and
we have two running backs who give the ball to
a lot. We have a great defense in our quarterback
will make the veteran plays needed. That's not how you
win in the NFL. Now, man, you haven't won like
that in the NFL four years. But yet he doesn't
want to just win. He wants to win this way.
Ask Bill Belichick what it's like when you want to
win a specific way. It got him fired. Oh no,
(24:55):
Tom Brady's gone, I'm the Patriots' way. I'm gonna sign
a bunch of guys you don't. We're gonna get a
bunch of lunch pail guys in free agency, and I'm
gonna win without stars.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
On the team. To show you that I and the
real reason for this dynasty.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
And what happened he got fired, right, Mike Tomlin wants
to win Game sixteen ten like he overly wants to
win this way. And that's the mark of a coach
that Hey, dude, you have to adapt with the times, right.
The Billy being claps his had ed Grady, adapt or die,
and you need to change. And Mike Tomlin's not changing
his ways. This is how he wants to win, and
that's not how you win in the NFL. This strategy
(25:31):
is good enough to win during the regular season as
long as your defense is good enough. But you get
to the playoffs and you're going home because you're not
dynamic enough, you don't have a good enough quarterback, you
don't have a good enough offense, and just doing this
sledgehammer way that worked when you were playing Techmo Bowl
in the late nineteen eighties doesn't work in the modern NFL.
Speaker 3 (25:50):
So the issues with.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
Mike Tomlin where he needs to probably move on and
go someplace else. This is it because offensively, the game
is passed and by it. Anytime the game passes a
coach I on one side of the football or both,
it's time to go in another direction.
Speaker 4 (26:03):
We're talking about being bludgeoned repeatedly in the playoffs. And
there's great respect for the continuity and what they've built
in Pittsburgh. Most teams are highly envious, right, Bears fan,
Jets fan here very much.
Speaker 3 (26:20):
So I would love to have you see but it's
different but Pittsburgh. But again, it's perspective, right and where
you're at.
Speaker 4 (26:26):
And with Pittsburgh, you've got an awful lot of hardware
from years gone by that stare at you. You know,
folks might not remember this, but Terry Bradshaw won a
bunch of Super Bowls before he became part of Fox
NFL Sunday, you know, a different era of the NFL
that I don't think those guys get there just.
Speaker 1 (26:45):
Due right as to how good of players they were,
and that Pittsburgh once upon a time closed the job.
Speaker 4 (26:53):
And yes, Tomlin's got one. That's a long time ago, right,
We're going all the way back to two thousand and
eight at this point. And while I would like to
have some of that continuity and consistency thinking I'm playing
meaningful December football, part of me would believe if I
were in Pittsburgh, I'd know that the as I'm blowing,
(27:13):
you know, on the noisemaker for New Year's Eve, my
season's hitting an end real fast thereafter, if I didn't
have to already play a game depending on the calendar
in the playoffs for a wild card weekend still being
in December. But I think we've passed that, so now
we'll get into the new year if you make the playoffs,
which is all fine and good, but I know that
my season is ending shortly thereafter that I'm not anticipating
(27:36):
a big run.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
I gotta think I'd be kind of pissed.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
About that after a while, after eighteen years of that,
and certainly after all of these early exits, because remember,
they're not just losing these games in the playoffs, they're
generally getting smoked early. And I was like, all right,
what do we do now. Now they could learn a
little from from Baltimore. Let's bring back the fullback. I'm
all about adding to guys that we may have to
(27:59):
get consider for the Pro Bowl and all Pro hunters
at that position, getting us back more fully to nineteen
eighty five.
Speaker 3 (28:06):
Matt Sue shout out bears.
Speaker 4 (28:09):
But that idea of getting into this century, and he's
had plenty of guys that he's had to tolerate or
deal with through the years, George Pickens being the latest.
Speaker 3 (28:21):
That's part of the backdrop to this.
Speaker 4 (28:25):
And you have spurts where the offense clicks and you
win some games, but it's not been sustainable.
Speaker 3 (28:31):
Even back to the final years of Ben Roethlisberger. You
were limping to the end of that.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
Oh yeah, but look, but go back to the when
they won the Super Bowl, right, Roethlisberger fast Willie Parker
at running back.
Speaker 3 (28:42):
Will if you had sent Antonio Holmes in.
Speaker 1 (28:44):
His prime, Heinz Ward, Heith Miller, those were all better
players at the skill positions than Mike Tomlin has right now.
Speaker 3 (28:52):
And this is what he's trying to win with when.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
He really you won the Super Bowl with pretty good
skill position players like Willie Parker.
Speaker 3 (28:58):
Wasn't a top five running back in the NFL. Was
the top ten he was for that year? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (29:01):
Yeah, But Najia Harris is just a guy, right, Jalen
Warren doesn't get the ball enough. And the wide receiving
corps right now, George Pickens has more controversies than catches. Okay,
so you have that when you had Ward and Santonio Holmes.
I mean, you gotta understand these are the players. Your
best Super Bowl best receiver is Friarmouth. And even he
(29:22):
wasn't one hundred percent right because he dropped a couple
of balls that were pivotal in letting that thing Avalanche
keep rolling against the.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
Best receivers on the other team. Wow, wow, he hates Yeah.
Speaker 6 (29:39):
It is.
Speaker 1 (29:40):
You know, Russell Wilson is going to be out of
Pittsburgh as well as much as says he wants to stay.
And boy, how things change from six weeks ago when
it was oh, it could be a three year, one
hundred million dollar contract for Rus Wilson. No, but Mike
Tomlin we talked about the message being stale, the team
not getting anywhere, getting any further. But the but the
point of it is offensively, the game has passed him by,
(30:01):
and he wears the way he wants to win like
a badge. And I'm like, okay, And for me, I'm
all right with it because I know I don't have
to worry about getting through the Steelers to get to
the super Bowl because if they're going to try to
win that way, they're eventually going out.
Speaker 3 (30:12):
They're going out very early in the playoffs. Look who's
left all eight quarterbacks, they're all really really good. They're young,
they're dynamic.
Speaker 1 (30:21):
The only guy that's left it's over the age of
twenty eight, is Matthew Stafford. And what's Stafford's reckon in
November and December? The last five years, like eighteen and three,
eighteen and three we won a super Bowl, Like this
is how.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
You win, man.
Speaker 1 (30:32):
You don't win with retreads and try to say I
want to win a service, it must be very self
satisfying to say.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
We're winning my way, but you know what, I want
to win anyway. I don't want to win your way
and win less because of it. But the question is
what does winning mean? Right? Getting to the playoffs? Is
that good enough for you? Not it's dootn Pittsburgh, it's you.
But it should.
Speaker 1 (30:53):
But to this point, the roonies that everybody have just
kind of shrugged and said, all right, we're playing meaningful
football in December in January.
Speaker 3 (31:00):
Good for us.
Speaker 1 (31:01):
But it's a small W because you're not eating big
w's here exit out about a Fresco exit swollen dome.
So watching the Steelers move on?
Speaker 3 (31:10):
There you go, now for go trade, who actually coined
the nickname fast Steve de Sager was then given to
fast Willie Parker Italy Steve de Sager with what's trending
right now? You don't want that in media?
Speaker 6 (31:22):
There used to be an anchor in southern California Fast Eddie.
And it turns out he was well, let's just say
he earned.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
That with with.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
Come on now he was well he was a big
pool player, right, yeah, Okay, that's what happened.
Speaker 6 (31:35):
They have taken some money off of people okay, okay
as the NFL Divisional playoffs start this Saturday. By the way,
Kansas City hosting Houston Saturday an.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
Me fat for Minnesota as they are out of the
playoffs this weekend.
Speaker 6 (31:49):
TK Steve okay the forecast, you broke, you broke Steve.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
I broke Steve at Minnesota FATS, I was thinking more
p h A T. But okay at Kansas City. The forecast.
Speaker 6 (32:02):
Friday's high forty six degrees, Saturday game day high twenty
six degrees, and then Saturday night's game at Detroit is
indoors of course on Fox TV. Lions against Washington Saturday evening.
Washington's won six in a row. Great news for the
Lions today that running back David Montgomery participated fully at
walkthrough after last month's knee injury. Washington linebacker Bobby Wagner
(32:26):
missed practice with an ankle injury. The Texans waved wide
receiver Deontay Johnson. He played for three teams this season,
Houston Widers.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
He catches for any of them?
Speaker 6 (32:36):
Yeah, barely, honestly barely, And remember the Ravens suspended him
before cutting him.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
So tells you all you need to know.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
You would have led the jetson cotches, hang on, hang on.
We have two really bleeping good wide receivers. Okay, jerk,
we got two really good ones.
Speaker 3 (32:51):
What are they good for? If your quarterback can't reach them,
They're still really good. It doesn't matter. They're just still
really good.
Speaker 6 (32:56):
Zach Wilson might be available in the offseason. Yeah, And
wide receiver Robert Woods mispracticed today with a hip injury.
Full practice for Chiefs running back Isaiah Pacheco after the
rib injury. Rams tight end Tyler Higbee is expected to
play Sunday at Philadelphia despite being hospitalized during Monday's game
with a chest injury. The Eagles officially placed linebacker Nacobe
(33:16):
Dean on injured reserve. The Browns promoted Tommy Reese to
offensive coordinator. Packers quarterbacks coach Tom Clements is retiring. The
Bears are due to interview former Cowboys head coach Mike
McCarthy on Wednesday, and the Saints are expected to talk
to him next week.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
So TJ clearly there will be no clemency for Jordan
Love next season should be foul.
Speaker 6 (33:38):
That's pretty good as long as you include the tea
in the NBA wins again for Cleveland and Oklahoma City.
Atlanta got forty three points from Trey Young in a
win over Phoenix, and Denver won easily at Dallas one
eighteen ninety nine Jamal Murray forty five points, College hoops
Old miss won at number four Alabama. Missouri held on
to win at number five Florida eighty three, eighty two
(33:59):
and seventh ran More can't won in overtime at De
Paul the late game to Arizona over number twenty five
Baylor eighty one seventy.
Speaker 3 (34:05):
Back to you, Maga, Steve O.
Speaker 1 (34:06):
Coming up next, we stick with the NFL and the
greatest controversy I've seen this year continues to rage as
one team gets ready for their playoff game this weekend
Jason and Mike Fox.
Speaker 2 (34:19):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon. This is wilda Power from nineteen eighty seven.
Mary is holding her phone up waving it with a
light on in the other room. What was Wilde Power's
other big hit? This is it?
Speaker 3 (34:47):
I don't think that another one, you sure? I think so?
Oh No, they did that, baby, I Love your Way,
Freebird Medal, Oh oh, the Medley. Yeah, they're all yeah,
the remake. Yeah yeah, okay, all right, yeah yeah, okay,
I'm with you there, all right, get that neat.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
So the best story of the last few days continues
to have legs today because Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni
went on ninety four to one WIP in Philadelphia and
was asked about the controversy surrounding Aj Brown, wide receiver,
who was caught reading during the Eagles win this weekend
(35:23):
reading a Power of Positive Thinking type book.
Speaker 3 (35:25):
The book went viral.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
Philadelphia newscasters opened their shows that night the next morning
reading the book. The books become the number one seller
on Amazon, and it's been a pretty big story. And
Nick Sirianni had to go on WIP today and say, listen,
anybody who criticizes Aj Brown as lazy, I have his back,
and I just I just shake my head left I go,
because this is the this is the most quintessential on
(35:48):
brand story with the Eagles. Here's a controversy that's not
about the head coach and the quarterback not getting along.
It's not about something on the field that isn't going right.
This is about reading books. Controversy at Philadelphia with the
Eagles that revolves around should they or should they not
read books? That this is so on brand for the
(36:08):
Eagles because they get involved in the most knuckle headed
stuff every single.
Speaker 3 (36:13):
Year they do.
Speaker 1 (36:14):
They're always one foot on the banana peel right, one
step away from disaster. And this is no, no, not
about Hurts or siriality getting the football. No, no, no, Barkley,
no no, This is about should they not have someone
reading books? Yeah, it's just crazy though, Right, you had
a couple of weeks where everything quieted down. The only
big consideration was what if Jalen Hurts can't go?
Speaker 6 (36:36):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (36:37):
Right, and he gets back to practice and he plays
and whatever passing game has had, it's.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
Me aj Brown would have to read what do I
do if I'm missing my quarterback Power of Positive Thinking?
Speaker 3 (36:47):
Is that a chapter of that book? Or is that
one we need to write?
Speaker 1 (36:50):
Demand from the backup you get the ball and you
will give him money at the end of the game,
because backup quarterbacks are not highly paid.
Speaker 3 (36:58):
Spot bonus.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
I got money in my locker room for you in
my locker if you throw me the football in the
second half.
Speaker 4 (37:06):
Here are my incentives in a playoff game in which
I have escalators at three, five, seven, and ten receptions.
Should they get a percentage? Should we or should we not?
Read books in Philadelphia? Eight seven seven? That's the phone number.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
Call it right.
Speaker 4 (37:20):
Come on, man, nobody reads books in Philadelphia reading over RT.
Speaker 3 (37:24):
No, I watch Abbot Elementary. They read on that show
all the time, all the time. None, they don't. It's
not real. There's a documentary that's not real. She's not
really the principal. Janelle James not really the principal on
that show. Superman's fake.
Speaker 2 (37:38):
No, whoa, whoa wow?
Speaker 3 (37:40):
Whoa really fraud?
Speaker 6 (37:42):
Whoa?
Speaker 3 (37:43):
Well, Gotham does not exist. No, Gotham is New York City. Yeah,
Gotham is. Gotham is New York. Yeah we don't got that.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
Uh I uh I really I love this story, and
I love the fact that Nick Sirianni has had to
come out and defend aj Brown. Of course you're gonna
defend your player into something stupid like this when people
are saying.
Speaker 3 (38:03):
You shouldn't be reading.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
But like, he's never gonna say anything anti one of
his players because he's the first guy out the door
if they don't win and they say coach has to go, right,
he's gonna whatever.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
Jalen Hurts and A. J.
Speaker 1 (38:16):
Brown and Saquon Barklay, they could be saying, you know
what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna get the keys
to every one of my teammates car and I'm gonna
put a cinder block on the on the accelerator and
I'm gonna let it go into a ravine and all
fifty guys on that. I'm gonna do it for every
single one. And and Nick sire, you want to get
that answer, he can and he can say, well, I mean,
I'm with him. I think I think that might work.
(38:37):
There might be a motivational tactic. If Jalen wants to
do that, or if Saquon wants to do that. I
think that's fine. I think we could. We can ruin
all the cars and you can take mine first, right,
take mine first. I'll help him put the cinder block on,
let it go. Like he's gonna say anything, because again,
the Eagles are always one step away from disaster.
Speaker 3 (38:53):
I'm gonna be some important for whatever any guys want
to do.
Speaker 4 (38:57):
What a year they've had, right, we had all the
controversy in the off season and questioning getting along and
if they got off to a slow start after a
rough twenty twenty three, would Sirianni be out of a job?
Still many speculating if they were to lose this weekend
that he could find himself out And if it came
(39:18):
down to it was about a book and power to
positive thinkings about whatever.
Speaker 3 (39:23):
Yeah, reading, you know what you should have been read?
Don't read? Don't read? Reading is over it. I thought
I thought, I thought you read. Everybody can read. I
thought reading was fundamental. No, reading is overrated.
Speaker 1 (39:39):
We don't want to you want to raise a bunch
of kids that can read books or kids that can
catch footballs?
Speaker 3 (39:44):
What do you want?
Speaker 2 (39:44):
Can't have them.
Speaker 4 (39:45):
But this is where you get the knucklehead fringe of Yeah,
you should have been looking at uh, you know, the
pictures that they could print out.
Speaker 3 (39:53):
Maybe we would have had more than one catching a game. Hey,
you know how you know you know how you honestly
do you know how? You avoid all this? Just win baby?
Put it on a kindle. So it looks like you're
looking at plays.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
Oh that's a good movie, I mean, and then eventually
you have to smash it, because that's usually what happens
to make people know you're reading an iPad.
Speaker 3 (40:09):
The iPad gets smashed, but put it on a kendle,
no one will know. You can read whatever you want. Think, think,
think none. This was a great out.
Speaker 1 (40:15):
The kid need to display that partnership with whatever. That laptop.
Is that the right surface? Yeah, yeah, there's the surface.
I'm aj Brown form Lenovo. When I want to read
during a game, I don't go to those old paper copies. No, no, no,
I read on this Lenovo spectacular. Do you think it
has a stamp from a library in the greater Philadelphia area? Hey,
(40:36):
that book is way overdue, way over and they said
bookman after him, way overdue.
Speaker 3 (40:40):
I could just a joy boy. How parandoim I was?
Speaker 1 (40:42):
When I was in like third grade, I went to
the library when his library day, and I took out
a basketball book on like the best the ten best
centers in the NBA, and I lost it and I
thought i'd after It was gonna be like thousands of
dollars to return that book. My mom had to pay
like ten dollars. How many times did you use that
for a book report?
Speaker 3 (41:00):
It wasn't.
Speaker 1 (41:01):
It was more like pictures and stuff. Okay, hockey did
the Dodgers day? Guys, It could be as soon as today.
It could be in the morning, coming up next. My
buddy Ben Mallory, he'll be all over it. This is
Fox Sports Radio reading yo.
