(00:47):
ti irac dot com the way tire buying should be. Well,
you just heard a real quick bit from Isaac Loancron
a few minutes ago. Yes, the big breaking news tonight
in the NFL. It looks like the the quarterback Derby
and the forty nine ers we were expecting to see
this offseason. It's not gonna happen. Purdy was supposed to
have surgery tomorrow to replace his tour in ucl and
(01:10):
look there was no bigger story in the NFL last
seven weeks than brock Purty gets hurt in the NFC
Championship Game and tears his ucl and the Eagles have
an easy path to the Super Bowl. And Okay, well,
Purdie's got some time, he'll rehab and boy Purdy, Tray Lance,
what are the Niners gonna do again? Another off season
where the Niners are figuring out what to do? Figure
out what to do? Well, now their offseason plan just
(01:32):
got a lot more clearer because purdy surgery is now
going to be postponed until sometime next month. They're going
to reconvene in early March and figure out a day
because the swelling in his arm hasn't gone down enough.
So now you're talking about surgery in March or mid March.
Even if he has a pretty uneventful recovery, which is
(01:56):
what you want, you want an uneventful recovery, He's likely
not going to hit the playing field again until the
end of August. So guess what. Guess who's not going
to be starting at quarterback the beginning of the season.
Brock Purty. Trey Lance has the gig. Okay, Trey Lance
has they get guess he's coming back from injury himself,
but he's to be cleared for OTAs where a heap.
(02:16):
You know, he got hurt much earlier in the season.
So this is a case of we know who the
number one guy is gonna be it. It's gonna be
Trey Lance. Now when the season starts, if he has
a couple of bad weeks, he's done. They'll go back
to brock Purdy because the memory of what he's done
is fresh in everybody's mind. Look, we struggled a little bit,
we got by with Jimmy g the team kind of underachieved. Nope,
(02:39):
brock Purty comes in, gets the ball to the playmakers,
and Niners win eleven games in a row and they
make it to the NFC title game. So yeah, it's
gonna be a short leash for Trey Lance. But honestly,
Trey Lance is the starter. Now, I mean, this whole
big offseason story, what are they gonna do that? That
takes a huge amount of drama out of everything, because
(02:59):
Lance is gonna get all the reps if he's cleared
for OTAs, he gets all the reps, he gets everything,
and he's gonna start and brock Purdy's gonna come in
and he's gonna be just where he was last year,
except he's gonna be even closer to the starting gig
because if Trey Lance falters, brock Purdy's gonna get that
chance to go, and he's gonna get it really soon.
But this whole storyline this offseason, what's gonna happen? Could
they bring Jimmy Now it's over? Now it's over. Trey
(03:21):
Lance is a starter? Yeah, I mean we still have
intrigue because we get to watch every snap with a
whole other level of scrutiny on one guy as opposed to, oh,
there's splitting reps, and now we can make excuses on
the facts that while they're splitting reps, no no, no,
Now it's a one man band, and all the eyes
of the world go on, Trey Lance, can you continue
(03:42):
what the forty nine ers have done these last couple
of years? Can he become that guy? And look, I've
been very vocal on the show, and obviously the Purty
injury changes a lot of the equation, a lot of
the math as you go, and then adding a setback
to it certainly changes it to a whole other level,
because for a while I was like, well, you can
(04:03):
go draft another guy and keep the because if we're
gonna do this for other teams, it was fair to
do it for the forty nine ers when it looked
like they were gonna have both these guys back, and
especially after Trey Lance got on Instagram and said, hey,
ran Carthon, good job, right, So you know that that
open speculation of art is he salty about his place here?
(04:25):
What's going on? But the purty injury setbacks and eventual
recovery time being now lengthened, gives Trey Lance every opportunity
for us to do what we we now do with OTAs. Hey,
how many paths did we get to see him watching
the part that was open to the media, seven? How
many complete? Right? We do that? All right? He had
(04:48):
an out ten yard out that he didn't hit, and
we do we grade and try to do that living
vicariously through the reporters on site. What were the the
OTA number was throwing against air? What did we have?
But for Trey Lance, the opportunity is there to go
and claim the job and leave no doubt. And the
(05:11):
first thing is staying healthy, which he has not been
able to do jess yet. The second part is to
try to push back any of the negativity related to
the fact that we only have one year of football
in the last five. That's kind of a big deal, right,
As much as we can talk about, wow, this guy
hasn't taken a snap in a regular season game, it
(05:32):
shrug your shoulders like they all but said they were
going to give this guy the job. And what's he
done here? He is twitter at out about a fresca
Mike at swollen down the Jason Smith's Show with my
best friend Mike Carmen. So that story comes out late tonight.
Another thing is now with with looking ahead and now
we're looking ahead at the season before we get too
(05:52):
far ahead and Aaron Rodgers makes a decision and Derek
Carr makes a decision. If you remember it's a year
ago at this time, I said, Hey, next year, Eagles
are going to the super Bowl. Jalen Hurts is going
to be MVP. Yeah right, I told you that, And
boy did I How close did I get? Oh? You're crazy? Well,
the dude cut really close. Man, he got so close.
(06:14):
So do I have another Eagles Jalen Hurts team next year?
Is there another team that's gonna kind of come from
the not the back of the pack, but come kind
of team yeah, come out. Yeah. Everybody's in the playoffs now,
like can they Well, well, the Jets aren't in the playoffs.
(06:35):
Not not everybody. I knew it cut to the quick
for both of us. But is there is there a
situation where I could see Team X and the Super
Bowl and one of their players being MVP. Yes, I'll
give you this Bowl prediction right now. Next year, the
Jaguars are in the Super Bowl and Trevor Lawrence is
(06:55):
your MVP. Look at you. Right when they drafted him,
I said, hey, things look great and that maybe the
marriage of him and Urban Meyer is terrific, and the
Jaguars will be in the super Bowl in five years. Well,
the urban Meyer part didn't, didn't do but you bet
you better be damn sure. I know where that tweet
is where I said, hey, Jaguars are gonna be in
the Super Bowl in five years. They probably would have
(07:16):
beaten the Chiefs had they been a little more seasoned, right,
they had the big comeback to win and with Mahomes
being injured, but they just had a little too much
experience for the Jaguars, and the Jaguars were kind of
playing with house money and they he was one of
those cases where, hey, this team is a little bit
out of their depth and the lights might be a
little bit too bright in this case, but you see
(07:37):
the talent they have. They have an easy division, right,
just like just like when Bengals fans are wondering, ah,
are we gonna be great? Yes, I said it a
year ago. You're in the era of good feeling. You're
gonna be good for a decade. Joe Burrow, is it.
You're gonna dominate that division. Same thing for the Jaguars,
even more so because Trevor Lawrence has really taken a
huge step. He broke out the last half of this year,
(08:00):
and not only that, but his leadership capabilities. You heard
Jaguars players saying overwhelmingly great things about him. This is
a team in a quarterback that's about to just win
their division for the next decade, and we saw how
good they are. They'll go in as one of the
lower favorites next year, just like the Eagels. They came
and well, you know they're good, but boy are they
the Bengals? Are they the Chiefs? Are they the Bills?
(08:22):
All these teams? Are they better? But we saw how
good they were, and you see how good Trevor Lawrence is.
And he gets Calvin Ridley back next year, who applied
for reinstatement hasn't been let back in yet, but you know,
he kept he didn't get in trouble everything. I think
he should be able to get back in pretty easy.
So now you add a terrific wide receiver back into
the mix. There a team that's already really good. Yeah,
(08:45):
give me the Jaguars to go to the Super Bowl
and give me Trevor Lawrence as the MVP. Yeah. I
got on board the Christian Kirk bandwagon when everybody was
bashing him in his contract. That worked out really well
for me for fantasy purposes. Between him and I'm on
Saint Brown championship, He's just gotta say healthy ross Saint Brown.
He's that. That's but but either way, they helped lead
(09:08):
me to a Best Ball championship and uh well guillotinely
so bully for me. The fact that the matter is
uh first, for addressing your tweet that was tied to
Urban Meyer, you can't try to claim that it was both.
It was but that was tied together. It was because
urban Meyer was there and anything you do to try
(09:30):
to soft you and around prediction and lying. The prediction
was Jaguars the super Bowl in five years. That it was.
It was predicated on Urbans. The prediction. That's the prediction.
It was, Yes, it was. It was okay Meyer and Lawrence,
but no, it was. That's the prediction was Jaguars. If
that happens, I got the prediction right. It doesn't matter
how we get there. It doesn't matter how how it happens.
If that's how it gets that's how it happens. It
(09:50):
gets there. Keep moving the gold posts, all right. That's
what I said. That was the prediction. The prediction was.
The prediction was Jaguars super Bowl. It was based on
they're pairing if if they get propelled to a super Bowl.
It's because he was so catastrophically inept here and hated.
I'm reading the tweet right now. I don't care what
(10:12):
I remember what was said on air. I was here,
got it right here. Don't care about your damn tweet.
It says, hey, it doesn't matter what Harmon's gonna say
about this. In two years, the prediction is the Jaguars
are going to the Super Bowl. I got the tweet
right here. Anyway, Jags, Hey, I was on board this year.
(10:34):
I mean you go back to the little board that
we have in the producer's studio. I had him as
a wild card. I think they didn't win the division,
but here we wild card wild card. Uh and here
is It's a nice squad, no question about it. I
jumped on board the Chargers bandwagon. Now that everybody's off
because if I learned anything, yeah, well, in doing all
(10:55):
the work I've done, UM in studying for the Aaron
Rodgers Darkness Retreat Real or imagine UM talking about the
different processes and procedures, part of it was, you know,
my own introspection and looking at you know, coming to
the moment of clarity. And part of that is also
(11:18):
not only your your mental well being, but your physical healing.
So I need to find some more people to come
with me and help make sure that locker room is healed.
Maybe I get a sage brush from Kyrie Irving, whatever
the case may be, because that's my only concern when
it comes to the Los Angeles Chargers at eleven to
one and Justin Justin Fields sitting out there justin fields,
(11:39):
justin Herbert. I moved him to mind, yes, because you
know he's gonna get traded, Because you know he's getting traded,
Like I told no, because you guys keep sending me
pictures of him and jet uniform and I've seen him.
What do you mean, you guys don't he looks good.
He looks good throwing that football the jet. They got
big muscles on him and everything. He only runs. Yeah. Wow, Well,
(12:01):
at least the picture for Herbert and company. I know
there's gonna be a lot of change, a rededication hopefully
to a run game that is more established. You can change,
can change, that's right. We need to change and so
get a little bit healthier. And that's always the big
problem for the Chargers on paper and what they've been
able to amass as a roster. It's it's impressive coming
(12:23):
in now. We just need to get the guys to
the finish line. I like your Jaguars a little deeper,
deeper cut there, and we look at between Lawrence and
Herbert to some value in those MVP odds. You know,
the thing is, I would like the Chargers if something
always didn't just happen to them, Right, There's something always happens,
like okay, what you should be great and should be,
(12:44):
but something happens, whether it's we get injured or we
can't close games the way we normally do. They just
find a way. What do you got, Frostburg, Keep my
team's name out your mouth. Look, I think a lot
of it is the radio broadcast. I think whoever's in
charge of the radio broad cast puts a lot of
negative vibes out there, and that's why the Chargers don't.
(13:05):
I think that's what happens, is that Isaac's fault. Then
that I think it. Well, listen, I'm not saying is
it the Shaker's fault. I'm just saying there's a couple
of people here that work on that on you know,
and maybe it's their fault. I'm just saying, maybe could
be doing a better job, could blame Blake, could be
But something always happens with the Chargers. It always does well.
(13:25):
This year they and this is the most talented charge
the Jets every year. Hey, there's never any expectations for
them though. For us, the Chargers are just the Jets
three thousand miles away. You're the same team we are.
You're the exact same team. Hey, why do things get
so sideways so easy? Because we're the Jets, because you're
the Chargers. That's how it goes. Always happens, you're drunk,
(13:47):
go home. Something always happens you're drunk. Twitter and about
a Fresco might gets swollen down The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon. So Harmon's got the charges.
I'm telling you, Jaguars and Trevor Lawrence, It's all happening.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
(14:08):
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My big
friend Mike Harmon Live from the tire rack dot Com Studios.
This is you know, I feel I feel weird about this, Mike.
(14:29):
I feel really weird. You feel weird. That's a good
way to start. Yeah, I feel weird. A discussion and
I do analysis of a story in the sporting world,
I get weird. No, I feel weird because I don't
want Derek Carr to the Jets. You know, I don't
want that. But at the same time, I feel remiss
if I don't give advice to try to help. I mean,
(14:52):
that's me, that's my thing. I try to help, and
I shouldn't sometimes just let it go to let people
do their own thing. Yeah, okay, mister help bro, what
do you got? Oh? I need to I need to help.
I need to help um And this is not you know,
Derek Carr. Sorry, future first ballot New York Jets Hall
of Fame. There is that. There is that which came
(15:15):
out today, which I think we're going to have more
of that in a few minutes. But with the situation
with Derek Carr now in the rear viewer were waiting
for Aaron Rodgers to come out of his ayahuasca whatever
he's got going on. Derek Carr had a great visit
with the Jets, and okay, now what well. David Carr's
brother said today in an interview that Derek Carr's free
(15:37):
agency will be a long process. All right. Now, now
here's the first thing. Now he has gone from Hey,
it's pretty cool. He's Derek Carr's brother. He's on NFL network.
He was in the NFL for a while. He was
at number one pick Now. It's like he's his HiPE
man and that's all all in his ballot, that's all
(15:58):
he is. Now you want to say that about my brother, Well,
let me tell you something, smarty pants. Yeah, here's the
ten things that they did wrong during my brother's ten years.
Actually nine things. I got one for each year he
was there. I mean, like, David Carr has a gig
now only because he's Derek Cars time man. We'll we'll
(16:18):
take us all the way through the regular say you know, hey,
it'll be great to take us through the off season.
The minute Derek Carr signs, we can just dump David Carr.
We don't need him anymore. But he's gonna get us
through because you all you gotta do is say one
little thing. And suddenly he's now out front with everything
about Derek Carr. Like now now he's an agent now, Like,
well I talk on NFL now it could be an agent.
I'm done almost Derek Carr's agent. We're going through things.
(16:40):
I'm telling I'm telling you what's going on. I'm talking
about my brother's free agency tour and everything. Like he's
this hype guy, like he's at WWE being led to
the ring by the manager. I guess he comes out
and he's mister Fuji or classy Freddy Blassie or what
I mean. It's just bringing about it's. Yeah, everybody, look
who it is? What goo it is? He's Paul Barr
(17:01):
and he has the urn of all the former Raider
quarterbacks of years past. Oh, here's Jeff George is in here.
Oh you, Oh, Jeff Hastendler is in here. That's kind
of who David Carr has turned into. Just in a month.
He's gone from David Carr NFL network analysts too, Oh
hype man for Derek Carr. Here he is. Yeah, I've
(17:23):
been mocking him a while. I haven't even looked if
I'm blocked. I have to imagine word got back because
this is really what he's been doing for a while.
And look, you go with what you know, right, you
have access, you have information. But the problem for for
Derek Carr is the more David talks, the more it's like,
(17:47):
all right, your brother keeps complaining to you, and you're
you now using your position, your job as a vessel
for him to vent about his time with the Raiders.
So David looks silly, and Derek looks like a petulant child. Well,
here's all the stuff that went wrong during my time.
I mean I was never and you know what, they
(18:07):
didn't let me use my superpower. That was the one
from yesterday that just made me laughed. And that he
didn't get to use his superpower being able to go
read a defense at the line of scrimmage because he
and McDaniels had not developed that level of comfort with
one another. So all of that you just end up
looking silly in that process, and I think it reflects
(18:29):
and on who you are going forward. It's like like
not everybody has the best of time in their jobs, relationships,
whatever else. At some point you just have to internalize,
shrug and move on. In this case, you got David
Carr that time and again it's been like, you know
how good he really was. Look at all the thing,
I mean, thirty five thousand plus yards passing man. Look
(18:52):
what he did and he had no defense play. I mean,
it's endless. And that's what he's been doing since before.
For car even before Derek even got benched, it was
already the excuse making and discussions. Right, they lost the lead, well,
but they had the lead and Derek and company did
the job. They didn't score any more points. Okay. The
(19:16):
fact that they caught up to you means you either
took your foot off the accelerator or now you were
in aptive close out of game and they made adjustments
to stiny your offense. Both can be true, okay, and
those lead to a lot of losses. You're partially responsible
as the quarterback for that. I don't know what we
(19:37):
do in terms of the pie chart of who's got
more blame than others. I'll leave other shows to do
that question. But the idea is that he's been doing
the excuse making tour for a long long time and
now it's all about the greatness of Derek Carr. What
way do you see when he gets away from that
squad man? Yeah, it's it's crazy and such an ambassador
(19:59):
and now but they did him wrong. Well, and here's
where my advice comes in, because right now, this is
the worst strategy you could possibly have. His free agency
process will be a long process, right, Derek Carr, If
that's what he does, this is going to end awful
for him because right now he and his team and
(20:22):
I mean team is in team Derek Carr, which is him,
David Carr. They are confusing being in demand with being
in demand because there's nobody else to fight with. All right,
it's it's it's one thing to win a battle royal
when it's you and twenty guys in the ring, and
it's one thing to win a battle royal when it's
only you. Well, of course you're gonna win. I still
want Yeah, but you're the only one in the ring.
(20:42):
Doesn't matter. I still won. Derek Carr has the landscape
to himself right now because of his contract situation. Everybody
else has to wait for the new year, new league
year to begin for free agency the beginning of March.
But because Derek Carr's contract was structured the way it was,
he gets let going now he's free to sign anywhere,
which is a stroke of genius because he's out there
before everybody else. But dude, if you think you're gonna wait,
(21:07):
have a long process and get where you're going, you're insane.
Look at the landscape. You're out there by yourself right now,
and there's a lot of conversation about you, which great,
but don't confuse that with legitimate interest. The teams have
two teams have talked to you. Two teams. One said, hey,
we want you to take a pay cut. The other
(21:27):
one is the only other one to talk to you
since you became a free agent. That's the Jets. That's it.
That's it. When any but any of these other quarterback
hungry teams in the NFL could sign you. This is
the only interaction you have had. It's been a week.
And if you were a really highly sought after guy,
Derek car would be in the middle of a string
(21:48):
of visits right now. Well, hey, why I promised that
I would go visit in Pittsburgh. I promised I would
go visit in Tennessee. I promised I would go visit. Instead,
it was a conversation and meeting the Saints and that
didn't work out because he wants too much money, and
they met with the Jets. That's it. That's been the
landscape for Derek Carr, which the NFL is telling you
(22:08):
what they think of Derek Carr. All the quarterback needy
teams are telling you what they think of Derek Carr.
So what's gonna happen when free agency starts? When Jimmy
Garoppolo is available and Ryan Tannehill is available, and Lamar
Jackson's franchise tag says, I don't want to play here,
and the Ravens look to trade him. When Aaron Rodgers
comes out of his retreat and says, hey, guys, I
(22:29):
want to be dealt. You think there's gonna be more
of a market for Derek Carr, There's gonna be less
of a market because part of it is, all right,
Is Derek Carr in a vacuum better than Ryan Tannehill? Sure,
but teams are gonna sit there and go, hmm. Do
I want two years of Ryan Tannehill, who I think
can still be pretty good at twenty million dollars a year?
Or do I want three years of Derek Carr for
(22:50):
one hundred and thirty million. Yeah? I don't know that
I want that. Hey, Ryan Tannehill, you're gonna come in
and be our quarterback. Boy. Jimmy Garoppolo has been to
a Super Bowl, been another NFC Championship game. Him, he's
got to stay healthy. Hey, you know him At two
years and forty million, that's better than three years and
one hundred and thirty million to Derek Carr. That's how
teams are gonna think that's how teams are gonna win
a season. Hey, we go get Garoppolo, we go get
(23:12):
Ryan Tannehill. We draft a quarterback. That's how we're going
to solve our position. Right now, there's lots of quarterbacks
available in the draft. So I don't know where Derek
Carr thinks having a long free agency process is going
to help him. I don't see how. I don't see
how you think suddenly things are going to get better
when there's more people to compete with. Right, if you
own the only butcher shop in twenty city blocks, everybody's
(23:37):
gonna go to your store, Right, But when you're the
only butcher block and only a few people go in,
and then more butcher blocks come up, like every five,
no one's coming into that store. Man, Derek carrs is
lives on Mars. If he thinks things are going to
get better for him, he's got to sign before free agency.
He's got to find that team if the Jets wanted you,
(23:58):
and you got to figure it out, and you got
to not say, hey, this is my contract demands. Because
you can say, well, I want three years on undred
and twenty million dollars. But if you don't get it.
What's the reality gonna be for you when free agency starts. Hey, Derek,
we like you, but not at three and one twenty.
We like you for a little bit less than that.
And suddenly what's going to happen. He's gonna sign for
a lot less than that, which is which is how
(24:18):
it's gonna go. If you sign right the Jets would
sign you right now, and if you take less money
then you want, or for whatever reason, you could sign
right now with the Jets and they would bring you
in because they would want to say he's our guy.
But no, if you want to sit here and wait
and not sign, that money's gonna come down anyway. I
ran No one's people could offer you whatever they want
(24:39):
to right now. You're not gonna get that offer in
the beginning of March, just because so to say this,
this whole strategy of we're gonna wait, we're gonna take
our time. No, man, you gotta sign. If you don't
sign before the beginning of free agency, he's gonna regret it.
He's gonna wind up be in a place he doesn't
want to be, where they're gonna have to shoehorn him in,
and maybe they don't have as much confidence him to
be the starting quarterback where you could sign someplace now
(25:00):
and he can be a starter. Take a little bit
less money, don't go absolutely crazy. I know you turned
your back on thirty million a year, but you weren't
going to start anymore. So you kind of have to
figure out the new normal. Do you want to keep
playing in the NFL. Maybe it's three years and eighty
million dollars or three years and ninety million dollars what
you're getting instead, But you're getting three more years and
ninety million dollars. Maybe you get it all guaranteed and
you're able to figure that that out. But this is
(25:22):
where you have to understand the landscape, and I don't
think Derek Carr and his people understand the landscape. What
I think is interesting right is we had the transparency
of so much of the coaching process. We've talked to
this guy and this guy, and this guy and this
guy and Jim Ersey. Every time they finished one, they
had to get the nicest, sharpest photo possible that could
(25:44):
get in. He's been really cheeky on social media with it.
We saw it with the Texans on down the line
with Derek Carr. It's I'd like to think we'd have
to some level the same level of transparency. Cool, and
maybe we do, and maybe to your point that that's
what we've got historically. It's the all right, not necessarily
(26:06):
going all white Sox Bears Mystery team nonsense, but the
idea is that you'd be having these conversations behind the scenes. However,
since we are talking about Derek Carr, I think we'd
have every we have perfect knowledge of the situation because
David would be telling us everything. Oh yeah, he talked
(26:26):
to them, He talked to them. I don't think he
can help himself as hype man and trying to say, hey,
we're generating interest, because I think part of the hey,
it's going to be a long process is maybe the
waiting and hoping. Maybe it's a wink and a nod
that there are other teams that have at least made
contact or their secret option C, which is just hey, hey, hey,
(26:49):
it's gonna get real here pretty soon, so you want
to give us a real offer right now if you're
in So all of that is to say that I
find it fascinating that we're talking about the free agency
market for the quarterback position, We've got the three guys
that could be traded, and who knows, there's always potential
(27:11):
for another. We talked about the lack of excitement. I
think it's the nice way to put it related to
Dak Prescott and stuff in Dallas. Not that he's going
to be dealt with what's going on with his contract
for this year, but you've got other potential pieces that
will be on the board as well. But when it's
all said and done, in terms of free agent guys
(27:33):
that are going to be able to sign, Derek Carr
is by far the leader in the clubhouse. And yet
even in this new age with quarterbacks moving around, I'm
supposed to get excited about that. I'm hard man, I'm
trying ringo. I think that's exciting. That Shepherd is tough, right,
Seeing him in that jet uniform really does get you
(27:56):
excited because of what it might mean for you, but
and for the show obviously, Otherwise the rest of the
musical chairs, there's not a lot of excitement there, I
gotta say, right, But but still, when when teams are
weighing how do we want to proceed with our future?
Do we want to go all in on Derek Carr
(28:17):
teams are telling you, yeah, we don't know they want
to do that. The Jets are clearly the most desperate.
Of course, they're using desperation out of every pore of
their body. That's that's because they're so desperate and anything
is better than Zach Wilson. But nobody else is saying, hey, man, no,
we want Derek Carr. We want to know. They're more
than happy to play the landscape as it is. We're
(28:38):
we're gonna wait till free agency will wait to figure
things out, and then we'll go from there. Oh, Derek
Carr wants too much money he wanted. Yeah, no, we're
fine because there's not that much of a difference between
Car and Garoppolo to say we want to give him
an extra ninety million dollars. So, yeah, I'm sorry, that's
not going to happen. So it's not just about who's
the best quarterback. Derek Carr is above this guy, above
(28:59):
this guy. Yeah, but everybody comes to their own issues
and it's not like Derek Carr is a is a
slam dunk guy. Like like if Aaron Rodgers said, hey,
I'm gonna I'm gonna avoid my contract I'm out there
for whatever forever team. Hey, how many teams are gonna
line up? Try to get Aaron Rodgers seven eight? Oh
we want are we aren't? We weren't Aaron because that's
kind of who Aaron Rodgers. Guys won MVP two of
(29:21):
the last three years. And you see even at thirty nine,
he's still a phenomenal quarterback. But Derek Carr, no, not
the same man, not the same and he thinks he is,
and they're confusing that. All you got to do is wait.
And I could sit there and say I told you so.
I hate to say I told you so, but I
told you so. But I know him when he's saying
I told you so. When Derek car signs to the Jets,
(29:41):
so I know there's gonna be a Jets. It's gonna
be there. Be sure to catch live editions of The
Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific and TJ. Clearly for the Jets. Something
happened on the Way to Heaven or the Super Bowl?
T J Man, I don't know the last time I've
(30:04):
heard this song, Bump Bump, something happened on this is
like nineteen nine. This is like peak Phil Collins, like
nineteen nineties Phil Collins. Something happened Fox Sports Radio. The
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harman. I'll tip,
I'll tell you Phill nineteen ninety Baby, is that what
(30:24):
it was? That song is thirty two years old? My goodness,

just mentioned some of the teams that are interested in him,
and in terms of that visit with the New York Jet,
I heard it went really well from both sides and
in terms of what New York trying to sell him,
because let's face it, that's what they're doing at this point,
they were pretty clear of them. They told him he's
a great quarterback. They believe that he's got a legit.
Surrounding Castle players, they went through the top d the
(31:12):
strong young skill guys, the explosive run game. They ran
through top to bottom of why Derreck Carkin step in
here and take this team not just to the playoffs
but to the Super Bowl. And they made a really
personal too. They said, we believe if you come to
New York and win, you could be a first ballot
Hall of Famer. Right, so they went full in on
(31:34):
Derek Carkin a letter to play for the New York Jets.
Diana Rassini on ESPN earlier today tell relaying the story
that the Jets told Derek Carr he could be a
first ballot Hall of Famer if he comes and plays
for the Jets. That is your maybe that that might
(31:56):
be the play of the decade, if that would be
the play of the Centurything like that happens. He comes,
he wins two Super Bowls with the Jets, and the
Jets all the Jet because he will be a first
ballot Hall of Famer. He wins two Super Bowls with
the Jets. It's the Jets look at that from hey,
get off of my field. I don't need you getting hurt.
And then you go and playing a Pro Bowl and
(32:17):
show off your great accuracy in the in the skills competitions,
and then you go on to win two Super Bowls
with the Jets. Boy, you want to talk about an
epic fail for a franchise. We had that guy for
nine years. We threw everything at him. He was supposed
to lead us to the Promised Land. It would be
(32:38):
so just to hear Las Vegas Talk sports Talk radio.
How do we let Derek Cark go? How did we
let him go? We let him go to the Jets,
and the guys want two Super Bowls? How do we
do it? Yeah? But here's the problem. All the people
that have been doing all the excuse making for him
would be right, Yeah, no, that's true. But that's okay.
I would like to hear that as well. How do
(32:59):
we let him? We let him go to the Jets.
We gift wrapped him for the Jets and they won
two Super Bowls with the guy. Yeah, but think about it,
if all, after all these years of ineptitude, problems, false starts,
the literally and figurally, the butt fumble and everything else,
that suddenly you would be that many more levels above
(33:22):
the Raiders. Right now, you're kind of in the same
swimming in the same waters. Yeah no, no, you are.
This became a first ballot Hall of Famer, first ballot
man first bat. Not just the hall of very good guy. Well,
you know, Derek Carr was very good. Nuts, it's the guy.
The guy won two Super Bowls with the Jets. Yeah, yeah,
I got no with the Jets. The Jets one not
(33:45):
one super Bowl, but two. I don't care who the
quarterback is. You're going to the Hall of Fame. Zach
Wilson would go to the Hall of Fame. If he
won two Super Bowls with the Jets and he retired
right after twenty six, he would go to the Hall
of fam. Come on, man, the guy won with the Jets.
There's certain things that absolutely impossible. This is an impossible thing,
so we gotta put the guy in the Hall of Fame.
(34:05):
You just went from a guy, you know, your Derek Carr,
wanderlust and all this fun and excitement too. And Zach Wilson,
who I've been trying to give away from bucket of balls. Man,
he'd be a first ballot Hall of Fame. Anybody would
harmon you would be a first ballot Hall of Fame.
If to a couple of suits, I mean, I know
you can't really throw anymore, but if if you could
(34:25):
just hand off and the Jets would like if Bruce
Hall gets healthy, he just handed the ball to him
like thirty five times a game and the Jets won,
I'd vote for you for the Hall of Fame. Look
at him, He got the ball from the center, he
handed to Breeze Hall. He won two titles with the Jets. Hey,
the two step is a very underrated move with any
guys have executed it brilliantly through the years. We still
(34:46):
talk about Nameth. Super Bowl three is the biggest super
Bowl of all time because the bleeping Jets wanted. What
would we talk about if Derek Carr won two of
them with the Jets. Come on, man, just think about it.
And I don't think it's because was the Jets, of
course chancing going through. But you want to you want
to go and simplify it to that it was your
