loaded and the game is over. Monsey to the wall

and right center field. Show Heyo Tani scores easily. The
Dodgers beat the Royals five to four. So a successful
return for Blake Snell, successful night for Edwin Diaz. He
didn't pitch, and the Dodgers win five to four, and
it's a Dodger victory. And they won a close one
last night against Casey after LA had lost eight of nine,

and we can update the Dodgers record since July first
is now sixteen and eighteen.

we were going to get the quarterback Derby, the biggest

quarterback derby, the most up in the air quarterback derby
of the preseason. We were gonna get this go all
the way to the beginning of the season. Nope, not happening.
Haven't even played an exhibition yet. No that the Vikings
have named Kyler Murray they're starting quarterback for the season.
Over JJ McCarthy. All these great quarterback derbyes you thought

we were gonna get are just peter out.

Michael Pennix Junior is weeks away from being cleared for
eleven on eleven. Yeah, it's too as long as he's healfy. Okay,

What about you Door Sanders and Deshaun Watson. You really
think Deshaun Watson's not gonna start quarterback for the for
the Browns, Jimmy Haslam Watson. Of course it's gonna happen,
but we thought we're going to get Kyler Murray and
JJ McCarthy.

I feel like we'd a Swiss guy for you. Yeah,
I was, you know, I was. I had something near
and dear to me that we're gonna spend a lot
of time talking about.

Get to the point where they give all the reps
to Kyler Murray and he is their name starter for
the season. This is not just for this week's exhibition opener,
but now we're gonna get to the actual Okay, is
he a real NFL quarterback with sparkle like he was
years ago? Because I saw a quote from his head
(03:54):
coach today that says Kyler's proven to be smart, very
hard working, and able to take in a lot of info.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Turn that out that nobody when the Cardinals said that exactly,
that seemed to like a direct trying to rewrite history.
I don't know how you would phrase that, but really
reframing the career of Kyler Murray and who he is,
and the reporter said, I'm sorry, I asked you about
Kyler Murray said, okay, all right, so in between the

video games, did you think, I said, Eddie Murray, I said,
Kyler Murray.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Oh, okay, got it.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
As soon as the Kyler Murray stories came out that
they actually had to put it into contract, like you
know you're going to study.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
This is like the quarterback reminded me when the number
one overall pick as well. Years ago, JaMarcus Russell was
with the Raiders, and I believe it was columnist Scott
Ostler who had the story that they were really suspicious
that he was not studying, like going home and going
through plays and the DVDs that they would send home with.
(04:55):
So one day with all the notes and things, they
sent home a blank de with JaMarcus Russell. And then
he comes back.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
The next day and they said, you get to take
a look at stuff with Oh, yeah, it looks good.
Yeah the eleven personnality. Yeah they're all good. I got
it all for you. Don't worry about it. Roof positive. Uh,
but there's a there's the quarterback point, and there's a
much bigger point about this story. First of all, Kyler
Murray over JJ McCarthy.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
This is the right call.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
They got Kyler Murray to come in and play, right,
because they were not happy with JJ McCarthy not productive
enough on the field, don't know how healthy he can be.
They went out to get JJ McCarthy to play. If
he does not start, they're just twiddling their thumbs waiting
for when do we put them in? Right, We didn't
(05:47):
bring him in here to challenge and oh we lost
the job and jet no, they brought him into play.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
That that's the thing.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
So this is the right call because you can go
back to JJ McCarthy, But the desire to see Kyler
Murray play is way bigger than the desire to see
JJ McCarthy play. They've seen him play. They had to
go out and get Kyler Murray. It's a much easier segue.
If Murray plays, doesn't play well, then they turn it
over to JJ McCarthy. Right that they can still do
that and look to think that McCarthy's not going to

start this year. Of course he is. There's so many injuries.
Quarterbacks are either hurt or they're ineffective. He's going to
start at some point, but the right call was made
for Murray to start now because it would just be
messy if it went the other way. The other thing
is I get them making the decision now because according
to all reports, McCarthy has looked okay, Murray has looked
(06:38):
spotty up and down, and they know that we need
to give him the majority of the reps with the ones.
They were splitting reps with the ones so far in camp.
Now Murray's going to get all of those reps, which
he needs because you want to put him in a
position to succeed week one and not just while I
spent the entire preseason splitting reps and maybe I don't
look as great and maybe McCarthy's the better option. Again,
(07:00):
it gets messy. So they're solving that problem now by
saying Murray's our guy. He's going to get the reps
with the ones in camp, and all of a sudden
his play will improve and it should the more reps,
especially in the preseason, he should wind up looking pretty good.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
So this was everything the Vikings did. I agree with.
It was smart.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
You got Murray to play and know that it's easier
to play him first, and to give him all the
reps now smart by the Vikings, not just reps, but
he's getting reps under center more apparently than he ever
was getting in Arizona. So a little bit different, and
you're gonna need a camp full of that type of
thing to be ready for the NFL regular season.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
You and I both agree that we were a bit
surprised eyebrow raising that JJ McCarthy was drafted out of
college in the top ten in the first place. His
rookie year was eliminated by injury, and then he wound
up getting ten starts last year, but eleven touchdowns twelve interceptions.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
So I'm not saying that's the sum total of his career.
We've seen enough, but as far as starting this year,
I've seen enough. It got bad last year. It's like,
this is an NFL quarterback that not only they wasted
draft capital on, and the guy who drafted him, of
course not in the front office anymore. There's a reason
for that. But you've got to go in another direction,
(08:17):
and I didn't think there was any other direction they
could go, and I'm glad they announced this early, But
go to Murray, you signed him. It's one year. You
can't franchise him next year.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
Go for it.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
And here's the bigger point, right, here's a bigger point
on this. McCarthy was overdrafted.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Again. I watched every.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
Game he had at Michigan. He has all the tools,
had all the tools. He certainly played well. He was
not the reason Michigan won games. They won the National
Championship because they lessened his responsibilities in the semi final.
In the championship game, I think.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
Could climb down opponents and famously wasn't at the Ohio
State game run the ball thirty two straight times.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
But this is just another benchmark of Kyler Murray being
named the starting quarterback and JJ McCarthy is the backup.
That illustrates that the Vikings made the worst quarterback decision
in the history of the league. In the history of
the league, going all the way back to in the
(09:14):
nineteenth before they even had the Super Bowl, when Ya
Tittle was playing quarterback for the Giants. This is the
worst quarterback decision that any team has ever made in
the history of the NFL. And I know, while you're
being a little bit over thet no no, because other
teams have made bad calls on quarterbacks. Right, Well, we
(09:35):
go with this guy or this guy turns out we
should have given the other guy a better opportunity turned
out to be a great player. Okay, all the evidence
the Vikings needed to stick with Sam Donald was there,
and they decided to ignore it simply because they drafted
JJ McCarthy. Right, so they draft McCarthy. He gets hurt.
(09:55):
They signed Sam Donald, who was never supposed to play.
But Sam Donald is thrust into a star position and
what does he do? He has a Pro Bowl season.
He's terrific with the Vikings. They win fourteen games, didn't
they start fourteen and two? He throws for four thousand
yards and thirty five touchdowns. This was an incredible year.
You found a quarterback as hard as he is to
do in the NFL. The only did you find a guy,
(10:17):
You found a guy in his seventh stop who couldn't
win the job and keep the job with the Jets,
couldn't hold off Baker Mayfield with the Carolina Panthers, and
here he is. Wow, you found a guy. And because
he has the last couple of games weren't great and
they had a sticky situation with McCarthy coming back from injury.
They decided we're going to ignore all the evidence we
(10:38):
saw that we have a good quarterback and stick with
the guy we drafted that we have no idea if
he's going to be any good. Tell me where that
makes sense in any world, in any world, because you
saw the evidence, you saw how good Sam Darnold was
in your offense, You saw the playmaker he continued to
make Justin Jefferson out to be. He was great, But oh,
we fall short in the playoffs, so we're gonna use
(11:00):
that as an excuse because we really like whether we
draft the JJ McCarthy, which is just a stupid, stupid
philosophy to have. Yet the Vikings had it. It's not
like that's the only emergency break that could have been
thrown for the situation. Okay, they could have franchised him,
could have brought him back for a year, franchised him.
Certainly he would have he earned the right to go
win to the next seasons number one quarterback franchise tagging
(11:21):
would be expensive, but only able to do it for
a year, and you're not paying a quarterback yet because
you know McCarthy's on his rookie deal that you've already
had that money for you could do that, right, especially,
you want to keep a quarterback that just again threw
for four thousand yards and thirty five touchdowns, and you said, no,
we're kicking this guy to the curb.
Speaker 4 (11:36):
He had about four to three indred year games and
did start. I looked it up fourteen and two that year.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
You could have kept him at least for another year.
You decided, no, we're not even gonna do that. We're
gonna let him go because we're gonna stick with this
unproven guy for reasons that pass understanding. Not only do
they let Darnold go, he goes to the Seahawks, he
signs a big contract, and he wins the bleep in
Super Bowl in his first year there as a starter.
(12:03):
The Seahawks win the super Now, is it an outlier
year for the NFL. Yeah, but it doesn't matter. Donald
wins the Super Bowl and the Vikings decision just looks
even worse. And now it's another benchmark day where the
guy you d you decided, no, we're sticking with this
guy over Sam Darnald despite all.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
The evidence we have seen that he's the better quarterback.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
We have no idea what we have in JJ McCarthy,
and now here's a day where they don't even have
the guy as their starter anymore. He's going to be
the backup, however long it is. Again, he'll probably start
at some point this year, but it doesn't matter. He
is now the backup quarterback. In Minnesota, they had a
Pro Bowl quarterback who had a great year, who went
on to have another great year and won the Super
(12:47):
Bowl with his new team. This is the worst quarterback
decision in NFL history. I don't know how anybody kept
their jobs after this. This is the story just keeps
getting worse and warts from Minnesota as time goes on. Well,
certainly did not keep his job after all of this.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
But also for those who said with Minnesota, Sam Donald
went fourteen and three, that'll never happen again. Sam Donald
literally went fourteen and three.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
It didn't happen with Minnesota.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Happened here again, now, JJ McCarthy and Michigan was so
good his final year there, he led the nation in
passer rating. But as you say, it was a let's
put it this way, carefully constructed path to victory. The
way that they won games. Yeah, certainly there was NFL
players on defense certainly they had, as it turns out
(13:37):
that NFL running back there, and yeah, the NFL wide
receiver yet NFL tight end game including the passing attack.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
So he's not a guy that first off, he not
only didn't win the Heisman, he was barely top ten
for the Heisman, and you draft him top ten.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
Yeah, in the top ten overall. Yeah, right, Like that's surprising.
I mean that that surprised me. But the loyal that
they felt they had to have towards him, like were
you just too close? Like if they brought in a
consultant into a room where they were deciding what to do,
the consultant would have said, David, what do you guys?
Speaker 3 (14:11):
Lunatics? What are you doing?
Speaker 1 (14:13):
You saw what you have here? Right, The guy's twenty
six years old. He's not a thirty eight year old
quarterback that put together an He's not Vinny Testaverdi who
shows up.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
At thirty eight.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
He's a twenty six year old quarterback man. And you
want to get rid of him and keep a guy
that you have no idea how good he is. That's
what we want to do. Okay, that makes sense, Like
in no world does that make sense? And so they
go through the McCarthy year with the Vikings last year,
and did you know Minnesota missed the playoffs by a
half a game. They finished over five hundred, which in
(14:42):
the NFL expanded playoffs, you can get in the playoffs
with roughly nine and eight, But in this case they
went exactly nine and eight and finished a half game
back of Green Bay, which had a tie on its schedule.
I every time there's new benchmarks in it where I
just go, Man, this just gets worse and worse for
(15:02):
the Vikings, worse and worse. I mean, all these different
times they could have stopped and made a different decision.
They had all the evidence possible. It's not like they
didn't know and they said, well, we drafted this guy,
we signed this and we had no idea. Oh, it
turns out this guy was pretty good.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
We let him go. He made the wrong decision. No,
you watched him for.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
A whole season, Man, whole season be as great as
he was.
Speaker 4 (15:24):
And the Vikings opener, by the way, for the exhibition
games not till this Saturday at the Giants.

That's a day game exit.

Just to let it, just to keep everybody aware.

There was a cotton mouth snake found a football practice today. However,
everyone is fine, that's right, and the snake was was
moved away. Everybody is safe. Just to make you aware
of this coming home.

There's always that type of memo from the school. It's
there by the end of the memo. It's their version
of nothing to see here.

People always as oh, yeah.

He's return to your homes and houses of worship, like
whenever there's a fake alarm pulled at my daughter's school,
or like the the fire alarm went off and oh
it's more serious stuff to that now, just so you
know the yeah, but if even if it's something that
was innocuous, says the fire alarm went off and outside, hey,
just let you know when you talk to your child
after school today, the fire alarm went off of the

third period. It was erroneous. There was a bad bat,
it was fixed. Everything is fine. We went back in
a had a normal day learning. It was a few
years ago when you had a landline and they didn't
have the cell phone to notify you. They would notify
the landline, so anybody who had nothing to do with
the school in the house would still get the call

at six thirty seven thirty in the morning. Like Wall, Yeah,
I had no plans to be up this Yearly, I

Speaking of growing attention from we plugged this enough, there
was justifiable honor given to a handful of former pro
football players in Canton, Ohio. And yet after the weekend ended,
the lingering headline is that the MC yet again was
Chris Berman, a guy you used to work with.

Uh huh, And and this is now video that's gone
viral for the last thirty six hours, Berman signing autographs.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
I can't know, Ohio, and you.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
See him and it's Chris Berman and and then like
he's got no butt, like and his and his pants
are like around the bottom of of of of the
of the butt cheek like like young kids would wear
like like I know, like when that was the fad
like ten twelve years ago where kids would wear pants
and they were I'm like, how do you keep a

little more detail than I expect? I don't understand, but
that's what And this video is everywhere with Berman, this
video of Berman going, oh my god, how does he
how is he walking around with his belt around like that?
It's like a kid from the early twenty tens. How
they would be able to wear how do they walk
around with the belt's like you can get.

It famous as a sports center anchor, and sports center
anchors never used to stand back then, No, you would
always deliver the sports news seated. Yes, So what goes
on now quite commonly on that channel where the anchors
are standing and then the analyst they bring in is
standing and they're going and standing in front of a
videos That was never the case before now, So like
(26:15):
a lot of including your old anchors, local anchors in
the old days, I should say, they could have been
wearing shorts and you'd have no idea because they would
never stand. Only the weather guy was standing. Everybody else
was at the desk. Berman for decades was oh yes,
and that's whenever everybody was at the desk. Guys would
wear jeans. People would wear jeans, they'd wear sometimes they'd

wear shorts. Was really hot because they never had to
stand up. You never saw them. But now that you
see people stand all the time, they sit in chairs
like an NFL network.

I was there.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
I would love to be more casual, but it was
always okay, you're we're standing up. So we were wearing
entire suits and that's how it goes like that's that's
kind of, you know, the only way you're on TVNUS.
So he's wearing the khakis and he's yet again the
host the mc or Hall of Fame ceremonies, which means
you are walking back and forth to the microphone, on

and off the stage beca you see him so many
speeches again, it's like I feel like, did he wear
like because I really I don't understand and I want
I should have asked kids about this, but it was
it was, you know, fifteen years ago. Like, I don't
get how they could just walk regularly with their pants
with the front function of the belt at the normal
level and the back of the pants down below the

butt cheeks. Like I'm like, I understand how you can
walk and have your pants fall off. I don't get it,
Like I didn't get the physics with it. I didn't
get how you get it.

But that's what Berman looks like.

I just like, hey, I'm in the twenty ten's here, man,
as that's how kids like this, You like tolly bag
on somebody just for something physically that he probably you know,
can't do anything about.

He's in his seventies. For cranted, he's retired. Yeah, can
we use that word. This guy's retired.

Aside from this, he's not on the air, I mean,
like on a regular channel. I know he's got the
streaming and he's not on the air regularly like he
used to. He's he's a retired being. So you know,
maybe let it go for somebody in his seventies.

Also, people do this, by the way, with sports television,
specifically that if enough ex coaches, for example, appear on
sports television, they get the attention of teams who need
to hire a coach in the future, and they can
get back in the game just by being famous, just
by being televised. It makes no logical sense. Nonetheless, it

happens all the time. Similarly, you should not think that
the anchor, just by knowing sports or talking about sports
on television behind a desk, is somehow athletic.

Yeah, no, I hear you on that, because there's definitely
some people that I've worked with that I'm like, wow,
they love sports, but they know you can't even throw

Ball, or you know, like Phil Mickelson, people were calling
golfers athletes. And this is in his younger days. He
probably literally couldn't run from t de Green.

And when when someone said to your overweighting goes, hey, look,
I'm not an athlete. I'm a baseball player, right like
I can do that. I'm okay a specialist now. And

That And it's trending and its continues and it shows
up my timeline every two minutes someone's posting this out.

quarterback derby, the most up in the air quarterback derby
of the preseason. We were gonna get this go all
the way to the beginning of the season. Nope, not happening.
Haven't even played an exhibition yet. No that the Vikings
have named Kyler Murray they're starting quarterback for the season.
Over JJ McCarthy. All these great quarterback derbyes you thought

we were gonna get are just peter out.

Oh we got one in Atlanta. Yeah No.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
Michael Pennix Junior is weeks away from being cleared for
eleven on eleven. Yeah, it's too as long as he's healfy. Okay,
that's great. What else we got? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (03:09):
What about you Door Sanders and Deshaun Watson. You really
think Deshaun Watson's not gonna start quarterback for the for
the Browns, Jimmy Haslam Watson. Of course it's gonna happen,
but we thought we're going to get Kyler Murray and
JJ McCarthy.

I'm upset, Steve.

I feel like we'd a Swiss guy for you. Yeah,
I was, you know, I was. I had something near
and dear to me that we're gonna spend a lot
of time talking about.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
And now let's go on.

Now it's taken away from us. Well, now we.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
Get to the point where they give all the reps
to Kyler Murray and he is their name starter for
the season. This is not just for this week's exhibition opener,
but now we're gonna get to the actual Okay, is
he a real NFL quarterback with sparkle like he was
years ago? Because I saw a quote from his head
(03:54):
coach today that says Kyler's proven to be smart, very
hard working, and able to take in a lot of info.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Turn that out that nobody when the Cardinals said that exactly,
that seemed to like a direct trying to rewrite history.
I don't know how you would phrase that, but really
reframing the career of Kyler Murray and who he is,
and the reporter said, I'm sorry, I asked you about
Kyler Murray said, okay, all right, so in between the
(04:23):
video games, did you think, I said, Eddie Murray, I said,
Kyler Murray.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Oh, okay, got it.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
As soon as the Kyler Murray stories came out that
they actually had to put it into contract, like you
know you're going to study.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
This is like the quarterback reminded me when the number
one overall pick as well. Years ago, JaMarcus Russell was
with the Raiders, and I believe it was columnist Scott
Ostler who had the story that they were really suspicious
that he was not studying, like going home and going
through plays and the DVDs that they would send home with.
(04:55):
So one day with all the notes and things, they
sent home a blank de with JaMarcus Russell. And then
he comes back.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
The next day and they said, you get to take
a look at stuff with Oh, yeah, it looks good.
Yeah the eleven personnality. Yeah they're all good. I got
it all for you. Don't worry about it. Roof positive. Uh,
but there's a there's the quarterback point, and there's a
much bigger point about this story. First of all, Kyler
Murray over JJ McCarthy.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
This is the right call.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
They got Kyler Murray to come in and play, right,
because they were not happy with JJ McCarthy not productive
enough on the field, don't know how healthy he can be.
They went out to get JJ McCarthy to play. If
he does not start, they're just twiddling their thumbs waiting
for when do we put them in? Right, We didn't
(05:47):
bring him in here to challenge and oh we lost
the job and jet no, they brought him into play.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
That that's the thing.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
So this is the right call because you can go
back to JJ McCarthy, But the desire to see Kyler
Murray play is way bigger than the desire to see
JJ McCarthy play. They've seen him play. They had to
go out and get Kyler Murray. It's a much easier segue.
If Murray plays, doesn't play well, then they turn it
over to JJ McCarthy. Right that they can still do
that and look to think that McCarthy's not going to
(06:16):
start this year. Of course he is. There's so many injuries.
Quarterbacks are either hurt or they're ineffective. He's going to
start at some point, but the right call was made
for Murray to start now because it would just be
messy if it went the other way. The other thing
is I get them making the decision now because according
to all reports, McCarthy has looked okay, Murray has looked
(06:38):
spotty up and down, and they know that we need
to give him the majority of the reps with the ones.
They were splitting reps with the ones so far in camp.
Now Murray's going to get all of those reps, which
he needs because you want to put him in a
position to succeed week one and not just while I
spent the entire preseason splitting reps and maybe I don't
look as great and maybe McCarthy's the better option. Again,
(07:00):
it gets messy. So they're solving that problem now by
saying Murray's our guy. He's going to get the reps
with the ones in camp, and all of a sudden
his play will improve and it should the more reps,
especially in the preseason, he should wind up looking pretty good.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
So this was everything the Vikings did. I agree with.
It was smart.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
You got Murray to play and know that it's easier
to play him first, and to give him all the
reps now smart by the Vikings, not just reps, but
he's getting reps under center more apparently than he ever
was getting in Arizona. So a little bit different, and
you're gonna need a camp full of that type of
thing to be ready for the NFL regular season.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
You and I both agree that we were a bit
surprised eyebrow raising that JJ McCarthy was drafted out of
college in the top ten in the first place. His
rookie year was eliminated by injury, and then he wound
up getting ten starts last year, but eleven touchdowns twelve interceptions.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
So I'm not saying that's the sum total of his career.
We've seen enough, but as far as starting this year,
I've seen enough. It got bad last year. It's like,
this is an NFL quarterback that not only they wasted
draft capital on, and the guy who drafted him, of
course not in the front office anymore. There's a reason
for that. But you've got to go in another direction,
(08:17):
and I didn't think there was any other direction they
could go, and I'm glad they announced this early, But
go to Murray, you signed him. It's one year. You
can't franchise him next year.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
Go for it.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
And here's the bigger point, right, here's a bigger point
on this. McCarthy was overdrafted.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Again. I watched every.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
Game he had at Michigan. He has all the tools,
had all the tools. He certainly played well. He was
not the reason Michigan won games. They won the National
Championship because they lessened his responsibilities in the semi final.
In the championship game, I think.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
Could climb down opponents and famously wasn't at the Ohio
State game run the ball thirty two straight times.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
But this is just another benchmark of Kyler Murray being
named the starting quarterback and JJ McCarthy is the backup.
That illustrates that the Vikings made the worst quarterback decision
in the history of the league. In the history of
the league, going all the way back to in the
(09:14):
nineteenth before they even had the Super Bowl, when Ya
Tittle was playing quarterback for the Giants. This is the
worst quarterback decision that any team has ever made in
the history of the NFL. And I know, while you're
being a little bit over thet no no, because other
teams have made bad calls on quarterbacks. Right, Well, we
(09:35):
go with this guy or this guy turns out we
should have given the other guy a better opportunity turned
out to be a great player. Okay, all the evidence
the Vikings needed to stick with Sam Donald was there,
and they decided to ignore it simply because they drafted
JJ McCarthy. Right, so they draft McCarthy. He gets hurt.
(09:55):
They signed Sam Donald, who was never supposed to play.
But Sam Donald is thrust into a star position and
what does he do? He has a Pro Bowl season.
He's terrific with the Vikings. They win fourteen games, didn't
they start fourteen and two? He throws for four thousand
yards and thirty five touchdowns. This was an incredible year.
You found a quarterback as hard as he is to
do in the NFL. The only did you find a guy,
(10:17):
You found a guy in his seventh stop who couldn't
win the job and keep the job with the Jets,
couldn't hold off Baker Mayfield with the Carolina Panthers, and
here he is. Wow, you found a guy. And because
he has the last couple of games weren't great and
they had a sticky situation with McCarthy coming back from injury.
They decided we're going to ignore all the evidence we
(10:38):
saw that we have a good quarterback and stick with
the guy we drafted that we have no idea if
he's going to be any good. Tell me where that
makes sense in any world, in any world, because you
saw the evidence, you saw how good Sam Darnold was
in your offense, You saw the playmaker he continued to
make Justin Jefferson out to be. He was great, But oh,
we fall short in the playoffs, so we're gonna use
(11:00):
that as an excuse because we really like whether we
draft the JJ McCarthy, which is just a stupid, stupid
philosophy to have. Yet the Vikings had it. It's not
like that's the only emergency break that could have been
thrown for the situation. Okay, they could have franchised him,
could have brought him back for a year, franchised him.
Certainly he would have he earned the right to go
win to the next seasons number one quarterback franchise tagging
(11:21):
would be expensive, but only able to do it for
a year, and you're not paying a quarterback yet because
you know McCarthy's on his rookie deal that you've already
had that money for you could do that, right, especially,
you want to keep a quarterback that just again threw
for four thousand yards and thirty five touchdowns, and you said, no,
we're kicking this guy to the curb.
Speaker 4 (11:36):
He had about four to three indred year games and
did start. I looked it up fourteen and two that year.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
You could have kept him at least for another year.
You decided, no, we're not even gonna do that. We're
gonna let him go because we're gonna stick with this
unproven guy for reasons that pass understanding. Not only do
they let Darnold go, he goes to the Seahawks, he
signs a big contract, and he wins the bleep in
Super Bowl in his first year there as a starter.
(12:03):
The Seahawks win the super Now, is it an outlier
year for the NFL. Yeah, but it doesn't matter. Donald
wins the Super Bowl and the Vikings decision just looks
even worse. And now it's another benchmark day where the
guy you d you decided, no, we're sticking with this
guy over Sam Darnald despite all.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
The evidence we have seen that he's the better quarterback.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
We have no idea what we have in JJ McCarthy,
and now here's a day where they don't even have
the guy as their starter anymore. He's going to be
the backup, however long it is. Again, he'll probably start
at some point this year, but it doesn't matter. He
is now the backup quarterback. In Minnesota, they had a
Pro Bowl quarterback who had a great year, who went
on to have another great year and won the Super
(12:47):
Bowl with his new team. This is the worst quarterback
decision in NFL history. I don't know how anybody kept
their jobs after this. This is the story just keeps
getting worse and warts from Minnesota as time goes on. Well,
certainly did not keep his job after all of this.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
But also for those who said with Minnesota, Sam Donald
went fourteen and three, that'll never happen again. Sam Donald
literally went fourteen and three.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
It didn't happen with Minnesota.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Happened here again, now, JJ McCarthy and Michigan was so
good his final year there, he led the nation in
passer rating. But as you say, it was a let's
put it this way, carefully constructed path to victory. The
way that they won games. Yeah, certainly there was NFL
players on defense certainly they had, as it turns out
(13:37):
that NFL running back there, and yeah, the NFL wide
receiver yet NFL tight end game including the passing attack.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
So he's not a guy that first off, he not
only didn't win the Heisman, he was barely top ten
for the Heisman, and you draft him top ten.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
Yeah, in the top ten overall. Yeah, right, Like that's surprising.
I mean that that surprised me. But the loyal that
they felt they had to have towards him, like were
you just too close? Like if they brought in a
consultant into a room where they were deciding what to do,
the consultant would have said, David, what do you guys?
Speaker 3 (14:11):
Lunatics? What are you doing?
Speaker 1 (14:13):
You saw what you have here? Right, The guy's twenty
six years old. He's not a thirty eight year old
quarterback that put together an He's not Vinny Testaverdi who
shows up.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
At thirty eight.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
He's a twenty six year old quarterback man. And you
want to get rid of him and keep a guy
that you have no idea how good he is. That's
what we want to do. Okay, that makes sense, Like
in no world does that make sense? And so they
go through the McCarthy year with the Vikings last year,
and did you know Minnesota missed the playoffs by a
half a game. They finished over five hundred, which in
(14:42):
the NFL expanded playoffs, you can get in the playoffs
with roughly nine and eight, But in this case they
went exactly nine and eight and finished a half game
back of Green Bay, which had a tie on its schedule.
I every time there's new benchmarks in it where I
just go, Man, this just gets worse and worse for
(15:02):
the Vikings, worse and worse. I mean, all these different
times they could have stopped and made a different decision.
They had all the evidence possible. It's not like they
didn't know and they said, well, we drafted this guy,
we signed this and we had no idea. Oh, it
turns out this guy was pretty good.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
We let him go. He made the wrong decision. No,
you watched him for.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
A whole season, Man, whole season be as great as
he was.
Speaker 4 (15:24):
And the Vikings opener, by the way, for the exhibition
games not till this Saturday at the Giants.

That's a day game exit.

back to distance learning because the snakes are taking over.

Or you could just not move and pretend you move
and then register to be on a team in another district,
kind of like the Tulsa Little League thing.

something like that would happen, the school would send home
an email. So I can see the people who are

I get email from my kids school, was it say, uh.

Just to let it, just to keep everybody aware.

There was a cotton mouth snake found a football practice today. However,
everyone is fine, that's right, and the snake was was
moved away. Everybody is safe. Just to make you aware
of this coming home.

There's always that type of memo from the school. It's
there by the end of the memo. It's their version
of nothing to see here.

whenever there's a fake alarm pulled at my daughter's school,
or like the the fire alarm went off and oh
it's more serious stuff to that now, just so you

was innocuous, says the fire alarm went off and outside, hey,
just let you know when you talk to your child
after school today, the fire alarm went off of the

third period. It was erroneous. There was a bad bat,
it was fixed. Everything is fine. We went back in
a had a normal day learning. It was a few
years ago when you had a landline and they didn't
have the cell phone to notify you. They would notify
the landline, so anybody who had nothing to do with
the school in the house would still get the call

at six thirty seven thirty in the morning. Like Wall, Yeah,
I had no plans to be up this Yearly, I
don't care what's going on. It's your school, it's not
my school. Can we do something about that? How about
bet a memo on that? Hi, this is Principal Johnson. Yes,

I see okay, quick search. While this incident is notable
for safety events, the Mirimaile High School also faces academic
performance challenges. In twenty twenty six, they are the bottom
fifty percent of Arkansas schools, OH saying they're trying to

bring funding. So now they're going to get more exposure,
more comfort, the d POS exposure.

Or they're trying to take you away from the academics.

Speaking of growing attention from we plugged this enough, there
was justifiable honor given to a handful of former pro
football players in Canton, Ohio. And yet after the weekend ended,
the lingering headline is that the MC yet again was
Chris Berman, a guy you used to work with.

Uh huh, And and this is now video that's gone
viral for the last thirty six hours, Berman signing autographs.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
I can't know, Ohio, and you.

See him and it's Chris Berman and and then like
he's got no butt, like and his and his pants
are like around the bottom of of of of the
of the butt cheek like like young kids would wear
like like I know, like when that was the fad
like ten twelve years ago where kids would wear pants
and they were I'm like, how do you keep a

little more detail than I expect? I don't understand, but
that's what And this video is everywhere with Berman, this
video of Berman going, oh my god, how does he
how is he walking around with his belt around like that?
It's like a kid from the early twenty tens. How
they would be able to wear how do they walk
around with the belt's like you can get.

It famous as a sports center anchor, and sports center
anchors never used to stand back then, No, you would
always deliver the sports news seated. Yes, So what goes
on now quite commonly on that channel where the anchors
are standing and then the analyst they bring in is
standing and they're going and standing in front of a
videos That was never the case before now, So like

a lot of including your old anchors, local anchors in
the old days, I should say, they could have been
wearing shorts and you'd have no idea because they would
never stand. Only the weather guy was standing. Everybody else
was at the desk. Berman for decades was oh yes,
and that's whenever everybody was at the desk. Guys would
wear jeans. People would wear jeans, they'd wear sometimes they'd

wear shorts. Was really hot because they never had to
stand up. You never saw them. But now that you
see people stand all the time, they sit in chairs
like an NFL network.

I was there.

I would love to be more casual, but it was
always okay, you're we're standing up. So we were wearing
entire suits and that's how it goes like that's that's
kind of, you know, the only way you're on TVNUS.
So he's wearing the khakis and he's yet again the
host the mc or Hall of Fame ceremonies, which means
you are walking back and forth to the microphone, on

and off the stage beca you see him so many
speeches again, it's like I feel like, did he wear
like because I really I don't understand and I want
I should have asked kids about this, but it was
it was, you know, fifteen years ago. Like, I don't
get how they could just walk regularly with their pants
with the front function of the belt at the normal
level and the back of the pants down below the

butt cheeks. Like I'm like, I understand how you can
walk and have your pants fall off. I don't get it,
Like I didn't get the physics with it. I didn't
get how you get it.

But that's what Berman looks like.

I just like, hey, I'm in the twenty ten's here, man,
as that's how kids like this, You like tolly bag
on somebody just for something physically that he probably you know,
can't do anything about.

He's in his seventies. For cranted, he's retired. Yeah, can
we use that word. This guy's retired.

Aside from this, he's not on the air, I mean,
like on a regular channel. I know he's got the
streaming and he's not on the air regularly like he
used to. He's he's a retired being. So you know,
maybe let it go for somebody in his seventies.

I mean when I saw that, I said, how, And
every when I'm watching and every video was the same
where you see him he signs the autograph and it
turns and his pants are that way, and every time
he's gonna take another step and his pants are gonna
fall down. But it always cuts off in the sand.

Also, people do this, by the way, with sports television,
specifically that if enough ex coaches, for example, appear on
sports television, they get the attention of teams who need
to hire a coach in the future, and they can
get back in the game just by being famous, just
by being televised. It makes no logical sense. Nonetheless, it

happens all the time. Similarly, you should not think that
the anchor, just by knowing sports or talking about sports
on television behind a desk, is somehow athletic.

Yeah, no, I hear you on that, because there's definitely
some people that I've worked with that I'm like, wow,
they love sports, but they know you can't even throw

Ball, or you know, like Phil Mickelson, people were calling
golfers athletes. And this is in his younger days. He
probably literally couldn't run from t de Green.

And when when someone said to your overweighting goes, hey, look,
I'm not an athlete. I'm a baseball player, right like
I can do that. I'm okay a specialist now. And
I saw this, I'm like, oh my, I can't believe it.
That And it's trending and its continues and it shows
up my timeline every two minutes someone's posting this out.
