Speaker 1 (00:29):
Greetings, Welcome inside final hour of the show tonight. That
justin Frostburg's allowed to stay for Hey, how about that?

(00:50):
Frostburg can stay because the Lakers gut out another big win,
a huge game. It looked like a big NBA Finals
preview until the end. Lakers win it one thirteen, one
oh nine over the Knicks. It was huge nights for
both Luca and Lebron. Thirty two and thirty one. Lebron
and Luca both the near triple double. Lakers got huge

(01:13):
threes off the bench from Gabe Vincent and Dalton connect. Meanwhile,
for the Knicks another night, it looked like it was
gonna be Jalen Brunson as the hero. However, with the
game tied in overtime, he leaves after what looks to
be a significant injury to his ankle. Nicks are down two.
Brunson trying to get to the hoop for the game

(01:34):
tying layup, he gets fouled. He gets a little bit
of a rake of the face from Luka Dantic, which
you know going back to ww oh and the the
freak in the face. So the fouls called on Luka Dantic.
But going up for the layup, he comes down on
Austin Reeves's foot and you can see the ankle turns
all the way to the inside. He stays in the game,

(01:56):
which has now been a thing the last couple of weeks.
I'm staying to the game and I'm shooting free throws.
He's sort of, I mean, you go back to Kobe
with the torn Achilles hitting two free throws, and coming
off we saw with Kyrie Irving torn acl hits two
free throws. Jalen Brunson goes down. He is an obvious
pain that looked like he was fighting back tears and
he stays on the court. He says, I want to

(02:17):
shoot the free throws, and he kind of just meanders
up to the line, not moving well at all. Hits
both free throws, stands the free throw line and doesn't move.
Now that the Knicks with because of the timeout situation,
they commit a foul in the back court so Brunson
can leave the game because he can't even move. They

(02:37):
commit a foul on Lebron James, and Brunson right away
just walks off court. He just lived under his own power,
but not walking well at all. The ankle really looked
to be bothering him really badly. We have not heard
any word from him yet. Again. He goes right to
the locker room, getting image and getting looked at. Right now,
when it comes down to the rest of overtime, it

(02:59):
is a Lakers. They hit the free throws. The Knicks
don't have anybody to make a shot. They try to
get the ball to Karl Anthony Towns. He gets called
for an offensive foul and the Lakers hit their free
throws and win it one thirteen, one oh nine. Ellok,
this is a fun game, you know, back and forth,
hard fought. Yeah, Barkley hat six. He's got to talk
about the Knicks and the Lakers, which we'll we'll get
to that in a few minutes. Yeah, but like, you know,

(03:20):
that's the thing is that you know, this game goes
on and it's an incredible game, and you can see
how big a deal it was, and both sides are
complaining about the officiating, and they're yelling at the other benches,
and Luke is always looking at the Knicks bench and
yelling stuff, and the Knicks are doing the same thing,
and Brunson's yelling at the crowd. And it's such a
fun game. And I go from hey, this will be fun,
oh man to get get it up over on Frostburg

(03:42):
here for tonight the last hour. And now I say, okay, now,
things just god really serious, because what's gonna happen if
the Knicks don't have Jalen Brunson. What's gonna happen if
this knee, if this ankle injury is really serious. He
looked like he was grabbing the upper part of his
calf when he reached down, which would be the high
dreaded high ankle sprain. Now I don't know. I'm not
a doctor, just saying what I saw on TV because

(04:04):
now you know people can say this on social media. Now, hey,
I'm not a I didn't examine Jalen Brunson, but I
saw this so reaching for the top part of his
CAF tells me it could be the high ankle sprain.
So now it's like, what are you gonna do if
Jalen Brunson can't play? And now suddenly all the hopes
and dreams is great starting five the Knicks have and
what they're gonna do and what they can get to
in the playoffs. Now suddenly it's man, I mean, I'm

(04:26):
not lying if I'm telling you right now, I'm hoping
Jalen Brunson can come back and get healthy for the playoffs.
Like that's where I'm att right now.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
After seeing that, Well, they're saying Luca before he went
over and this is where Lebron gets the extra win.
He can also just say, I'm not doing the interview,
go find Luca. He was asking people, hey, where's Jalen
as they were going and doing their handshakes and getting
the news, Hey he's not here he's going, so that
kind of things as we look at the aftermath of this,

(04:53):
just a huge game, back and forth, gutting it out,
and you know, we're trying to get the info.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
But watch the I made the mistake of watching the replay.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
Let me put it that way, Smith, because I hadn't
gotten to see all right, let's pinpoint it, let's zoom in,
let's see exactly what happens here. I don't want to
see it again. I've had a serious leg injury playing basketball.
Would never want to revisit that video, and certainly here
for Jalen Bronson, the countenance at the free throw line

(05:21):
as you laid it out, and then the Knicks clearly
affected right on the We watched them on the bench
as you had a time out, and just all the
energy I had drain and it played like an NBA
Finals game for that first fifty, you know, forty seven
minutes of it all because we had all the stars

(05:42):
and attendance. You kept going down the roads. All right,
there's another a list guy, there's another. I don't think
all of them got screen time. There were so many
of them. I went to the game. They didn't even
show me come on, man, God, call them my agent. Hey,
I went to the game. They didn't show them.

Speaker 4 (05:55):
I know.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
I called. I called the Lakers. I said you were coming.
They said they would show you at some point. I'm sorry.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
And then we were in the third row because all
these other guys showed up. You were not you were
not front row material. Fleet kept standing up in front
of me. Man, so I had to go stand behind
Spike Lee. They stopped showing Spike. If I can stand
up behind Spike Lee and people could see me. Yeah,
I don't think Ben Stiller really got the shout out.
He would normally get it one of these games. And
Larry David was off on the side. He was only
there when we talked about, you know, Brunson leaving for

(06:21):
the exits. But you know now it casts the rest
of the season like it was exciting, you two yelling
at each other.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
And this was great back and forth.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
And then all of a sudden like, oh, you know
the old adage from me, what was it Christmas story? Yeah,
it's all fun till someone lose it. You can shoot
your eye out with that thing. It's like all funny games.
And then Jalen Brunson goes down, So it cast the
Eastern Conference and what they might have been into a
little bit of a whirlwind here as we wait for

(06:51):
an official diagnosis for Brunson. But for the Lakers, another
huge win. Great work from your your stars. Except Lebron
kept wanting to shoot that dagger down the stretch. Oh yeah, yeah,
but look he still had it.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
Yes he was able to. Look. This is like we said,
I guys have been saying about the Lakers, It's gonna
be a boring rest of the season because they're just
gonna roll through teams right now. I mean, they are
absolutely still feeling the new relationship, the new everything with Luca,
and Luca and Lebron play incredibly well together. Their games
really just just just mesh right from one to the other.

(07:27):
And the reason is is because with Lebron, Lebron and Ad. Right,
when Lebron and Ad played together, they had to play
at the same time, they had to play in sync.
It was Lebron with the ball and it was either hey,
we had to find a way to get Ad involved.
There was no Hey, Lebron can dominate for a little while,
but you know they needed to be in sync at
the same time, right, How many games did they win

(07:48):
where they look good where they were both doing it,
but games where they weren't. It was difficult. But with
Luca and Lebron, it's like Lebron can be off the
court and not involved for minutes at a time, right, Like, yeah,
he can wait and get his Lebron James rest and
then still be Look how fresh he is in the
fourth quarter and when he needs to dominate in games

(08:09):
like in the same thing for Luca, Luca who you know, Still, Hey,
I get to the point where I'm tired. He rested,
He rested more tonight. He can get to the point where, hey,
you don't need me because now Lebron can take this.
Like they work well together. They work well when one
of them is running the team, and especially when you
have less of a burden on Lebron. This is something
that they're more symbiotic together. It's it's kind of weird

(08:30):
to say because you would think, well, Lebron being able
to handle the basketball and Ad playing down low is
gonna work. But hey, there was problems. Look as Lebron
better as a point guard, is Ad better as a four?
Is he better as a five? What works for the
Lakers have never really figured that out. But because Lebron
can play like that that stretch four and and do
a lot of different things, and Luca is such a
ball dominant guy, Lebron doesn't have to be that gun

(08:54):
Beauty doesn't need to be and Luca can get more
players involved. Ad doesn't get more players involved Luke. It
gets players involved.

Speaker 5 (09:01):
Right.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
He got Gabe Vincent involved tonight and connect with some
threes tonight. So this relationship works so well on the
court right away because the games mesh with each other,
and you've seen that right away. You've seen that takeoff
right away. And the big benefit for the Lakers is
as the season goes on, Okay, what would be their
problem they got to the playoffs. Okay, they'll get to

(09:21):
the playoffs because they were playing pretty well before the trade, right,
they were still eight games over five hundred, and the
big thing was gonna be when you get to the playoffs,
what happens, Well, eventually Lebron and Ad are going to
show their age. Right, you don't win with over thirty players,
with your two best players being over thirty, trying to
make it through a marathon of the playoffs. But now
you get to the playoffs, and it's okay, Yeah, Lebron

(09:43):
who's still playing well four, but now it's Luca at
twenty five who can carry you so much, and Lebron
will have a lot left for those spurts where he
has to take over the game. And Lebron, like we
talked about, Lebron, he's okay with it being Luca's team.
He's absolutely okay with it. But when it's winning time
and it's big moments, it's still my team. And I'm

(10:04):
going to show you it's still my team. Whereas before
when he tried to take over late, he didn't have
a lot because he was so spent from everything else
over the course of the game. But now he's got
less hectic minutes when he's on the court, and he's
got so much left for the end of the game. Again,
he's bouncing around, falling, flopping, falling down, trying to draw
serious fouls. Like he looked like he could have played

(10:24):
another quarter at the end of this game. And that's
the biggest part about Lebron and Luca playing again.

Speaker 3 (10:29):
Yeah, and we've watched it, you know, since he came
out with what is it, twelve and two, eight game
win streak all of these things, but the flow of
the offense and tonight you didn't get great returns from
your secondary players. As a team, they shot thirty three
percent from three point range. Started out pretty hot, and
then there was a stretch where I think there were

(10:50):
two of sixteen right where there was a lid on
the basket and bad shot selection all around. But you
go back and you look at a night where Austin
ree goes two for thirteen, pretty lost overall, one of
seven from three, Finny Smith, Jackson Hayes. They go and
combined four for ten. That's fine, but not terribly active.

(11:11):
But gave Vincent and Connect off the bench shooting well
why wide open looks and that ball distribution and being
able to work off the ball and next thing, Lucas
still trying to learn like Lebron had been able to
do that in spurts in the past, the Rick Bucker
termed Lebron minutes. But now you have the luxury of

(11:32):
being able to do that. Hey, you know what, you
had a tough six minutes, which means you've got more
energy to play a little bit of defense, which is
what you're seeing Luca commit to a little bit more
is it odd at times and he does just the
half assed swipe like he did on the play with
Brunson where it ends up where he gets hurt. He
could have been called for the file before bruns had

(11:53):
ever left his feet to be challenged by Reeves that
which would have been a sixth by the way, But
all of that to say, you're at least getting in
to step into lanes to challenge a bit, and for
Lebron coming back and the helping defensive thing that he's
able to do. Look, Anthony Davis still averaged over three
assists per game, and then you talk about well, making

(12:15):
the right basketball play and passing out to our guys
didn't hit shots, That's fine, it's not creating like Luca does,
like Lebron's able to do. So you get to guys
that get to just go to their spot along the
arc or open in the lane like Jackson. Hayes ain't
gonna get fed an awful lot of points just being

(12:35):
able to go down the center as the double collapses
on either Luca or Lebron, so opportunities abound, which is
a nightmare scenario down the stretch because you're able to
play into the forty minutes, but it's not the same
style of forty minutes.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
I know.

Speaker 3 (12:50):
We had a lot of debate after Kyrie Irving got
hurt and Jason Kidd was immediately Hey, it's not because
of the minutes he's playing. It's an unfortunate injury that
the felon. But don't try to claim it was because
he was up in minutes. But over the course of
a year, we we see tired legs, we see guys
wear down, and right now for the Lakers, they're in

(13:11):
a good spot where it doesn't look like we're necessarily
gonna have those concerns down the stretch.

Speaker 1 (13:16):
No. No, the only concern coming off this game is
Jalen brunts. That's it. And you got pretty good legs.
I would I might need your ankle for Jalens.

Speaker 2 (13:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
No, I'm just gonna come in with a saw and
just cut it off. I have a price right on
right here.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
Like Ted Dibias, he always said, everybody's got a price.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
Your price is gonna be chloroform and you wake up
with a stump. Yeah, but he's a problem. You just
now said this to the millions.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
And millions of adorning fans nationwide.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
They're gonna be okay, they're gonna say no, he never
said it. No, I never said it. But here's proof, No,
I never said it. They never said it was digitally altered. Yeah.
Oh man, Okay, we watch way too much Law and Order.
Incredible night for the NBA Lakers with a big win.
Will wait or anything about Jalen Brunson. But coming up next,
there is one big person who is not going to

(14:04):
be excited at all to.

Speaker 3 (14:06):
Talk about this game. One big person. That big person,
he's a big deal, big deal. Oh, I want to
talk about this game. I don't want to talk about
the Lakers. Probably don't want to talk about the Nicks.

Speaker 1 (14:16):

Speaker 1 (16:11):
Condition is in? Man, I'll tell you, uh, we've heard
me from Stop we don't know that. Stop stop setting
put good thoughts out there. Okay, you guys won the
you won the game. It's fine. Stop tight shirt, stop tysher.
We're gonna fight and I'm gonna win because I'm gonna
say no, no, no, dude, I'm not. I walk up

(16:32):

Speaker 7 (16:33):
Man?

Speaker 1 (16:34):
And boom, there'll be two hits, me hitting you and
you hitting the floor. That's that. So much violence in
the air tonight, that's what happens. You're putting out. It's
broke for Jalen, But come on, man, come on, I mean, look.

Speaker 3 (16:47):
He's putting in his two cents as it would be
Twitter doctor. But he's got the board in front of him,
So instead of going to Twitter, he just put it
out there as a maybe, because that's all it is
right now, conjecture about this status of Jalen Brunson.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
I'm waiting for him to say, you know, if he
would just have, you know, eaten more vegan food and uh,
you know, not colliflower and not protein and blueberries, he'd
be fine. He'd be walking out to me, Okay, what
is the diet of Jalen Brunson? If he would just
have glucosamine, I'll tell your ankles and your knees to
be really great. This is just drink the glucosamine. It's
a fantastic all we do have to shake. I think

(17:26):
ty Shirt just drinks glucosamine by the by the gallon,
I do, do you really? Yeah, your joints must be awesome.
You have no idea. I'm gonna take you. I'm gonna
take your I'm gonna cut your leg off and give
it to br Just see me jump up and down
right now? Okay? Ah, good, well, well you're already cutting
mine off. So what happens to me?

Speaker 6 (17:42):
Now?

Speaker 1 (17:43):
I got it. He didn't even go to the intended purpose.
I got to give the doctor a choice. Here trade
take this ankle, take this ankle for Jalen Brunson, and
take one too. Oh man, So he rolls his ankle.
In the final minute of regulation a tide game, or
final minute of overtime a time game goes to the
Lakers one thirteen, one oh nine. Jalen Brunston being examined.

(18:04):
It did not look good. He hit two free throws
and walked off the floor. He's being examined. Tom Thibodeau said,
there is no news right now. If we hear something
in the next half hour, we'll let you know. But
now the Knicks may have to try to navigate some
time without Jalen Brunson. And look, let me be on.
We get we'll get to Charles bart Ty shirt. I
mean it, man, I mean it. I will shave your

(18:25):
head off, That's what I'll do. I'll not your head,
I'll shave your shave your head off, shave you. I'll
get a real powerful razor and just right at your neck,
just whoa, whoa, whoa.

Speaker 6 (18:34):
Jason was about to go in Glorio's bastards telling you, uh,
but here's the thing about the Knicks, and this is
this is this is what I saw coming here.

Speaker 1 (18:44):
Obviously, if there's no Brunson, it's a big deal. But
watching the end of this game is more of what
I have seen from the Knicks over the course of
this year, is that their starters play heavy minutes. They
have a tough time closing games anyway, right, they have
a tough time closing at the end. And in the
last few minutes of a game, they lose their offense.

(19:05):
Their offense becomes stagnant, and it's Jalen Brunson trying to
create something off the dribble and it's either an ISO
play or he puts up a three. And that's not
the way it works. Like all of a sudden, all
these all these other stars have nothing to do, Like
there's no Karl Anthony Towns down low, right, you can't
pass the ball to mckel Bridges. Boy, he has just

(19:25):
been a what he's been a waste of five first
round picks. I mean, that's that's Bridges. Whole season has
been that way. But the Knicks offense just gets stagnant
at the end of games, and you see they struggle
to score and unless Jalen Brunson can come up with
some really heroic shot or a big three or Josh
Hart does something big, the Knicks wind up blowing the game.
And when and now they're oh to eight against the

(19:47):
top four teams in the Eastern Western Conference. They're oh
and four against the top two teams in the East.
They're oh and four against the top two teams in
the West. Right, that's not gonna get you anywhere in
the playoffs. But really, when when I I see is
that it's at the end of a game and I
just watch their offense just grows stagnant, and really I'm
looking for more movement, more guys that can hit shots.

(20:08):
And without Jalen Brunson, now hey maybe the silver lining
might be well, somebody else got to step up and
they got to figure some kind of ball movement out
and get the ball done. Ready. Yeah, but I mean, really,
the end of a game is just okay, the last
two minutes suddenly it's yeah, we're not moving the ball
around anymore. We're not trying to get the ball into cat.
We're not gonna do this. We're gonna just be Jalen Brunson.

(20:29):
And the shot clock goes down and he tries to
create something. It's like going back to the mid teens
Knicks when it was Carmelo Anthony just holding the basketball
as the shot clock went from twenty four down to
zero before he took a three. Like that's kind of
that's kind of the deal with the Knicks, and that's
what's really wrong with them. Obviously the injury to brunts.
We wait and see, but they have trouble closing because
the starters play heavy minutes and at the end of

(20:50):
game the offense. The offense just just goes grinds to
a halt and you can't win games that way.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
Yeah, just the amount of standing around and waiting, I
don't know what you're parting of the seas or whatever,
like Brunson goes out, and the amount of shock, like
in the moment, I get it, you still gotta go
play basketball, Like you've obviously run sets against a Brunson

(21:15):
led to you do separate into you know, scrimmages in practice,
don't you so in theory someone someone's run and run
the offense and found open shots and looks just stagnant
possessions down the stretch. Once Brunson left the game, and
I get it, you know, shocking moment and you're stunned

(21:38):
into it, but you know someone needed to not physically,
because you can't do that. There's problems with that. Snap
out of it, the old share moonstruck. See I get
Nick Cage into this, Yeah, into the show however.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you gotta just make sure, yeah, sure,
get back out there and play.

Speaker 3 (21:57):
And for Tom Thibodau and company, I don't I don't know
how long he's out. Like we keep seeing the Twitter
doctors that don't want to breathe life into too much.
But it's like, all right, here are the different scenarios.
You know, we get the fracture, we get the high
ankle spray, and we get the hey, it's bad in
the moment, but that Brunson gets back on the court

(22:18):
and you know, nothing to see here, which I think
is really really the most optimistic of things, because you
want to put the good vibes out there, but realistically
you're looking to probably see him miss at least a
couple of games here. But for the Knicks, yeah, you've
got to figure out what your offense becomes from a
guy who's meant so much to it. And this is

(22:40):
where the Tom Thibodeau everybody plays forty minutes. You know,
no pause, and you saw your offense today, right, stagnant,
but bench minutes have not been good minutes.

Speaker 1 (22:54):
Right, it's just a warm body out there.

Speaker 3 (22:57):
Those guys are actually gonna have to play some substantive
minutes down the stretch here for your team to.

Speaker 1 (23:01):
Stay above the fold. In the Eastern Conference. Yeah, it's
been like watching the game to have a ten point league.
But eventually I know in the fourth quarter they're gonna
tire a little bit. The other team. You know, a
good team is going to get back in this game
and hit shots, and it's exactly what entirely predictable was tonight.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
Well, now you also have the noise starting to filter
out about hey, big Bodega didn't want to play against
the Warriors and Jimmy Butler, Chris Brussard, old colleague here
putting that up on FS one.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
So now you got that noise you need to filter
through as well. Good luck exit out about a Fresco
exit swelling down the Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Carmen live from the tirerack dot Com studios.
Time now to find out what's trending in the wide
world of sports. From someone who's been called the Tom
Thibodeau of Fox Sports Radio. She likes to wear black
and walk around with her arms folded. It's manti blagya.

Speaker 8 (23:53):
Sometimes I do, sometimes I do. No cap there again.

Speaker 7 (23:58):
All right, So Chris Haynes just literally tweeted right now
as I read it from my watch, there's optimism that
Nick star Jalen Brunson only sustained a sprained ankle.

Speaker 9 (24:08):
That is literally she's reading, you're reading it, inspect we're
we have like fifteen computers here, I know, televisions and.

Speaker 1 (24:18):
You're reading something on your watch.

Speaker 7 (24:20):
But when you cut to me, I found my wrist
vibrate and so I looked, and that's what it was.
Instead of changing my screens, I got it for a
real sour though Chris Mark as I say, chrismadino't because
I know Chris Medino. Mark Medina tweeted that there wasn't
any news yet a couple of minutes ago, and then
Chris Hanes just tweeted this. So there's optimism that it
was just a sprained ankle. We'll see, yes, Lakers one

(24:44):
in and overtime against the next one thirteen to one
oh nine.

Speaker 8 (24:47):
Lakers have won eight in a row.

Speaker 7 (24:49):
The Magic have lost five in a row after the
Bulls edged them today one twenty one, twenty three, but
Kobe White had a career high forty four points. Now
Dwight Howard will be inducted into the Magic Hall of
Fame on March twenty four. Sev Curry had forty points,
including seven threes, as the Warriors had a twenty two
point come back win over the Nets, final score one
twenty one to one nineteen. Golden State has won eight

(25:11):
out of their last nine games. Trey Young had a
double double twenty two points in sixteen assists as the
Hawks top the Pacers.

Speaker 8 (25:17):
Won twenty four to one eighteen.

Speaker 7 (25:19):
Jason Tatum at thirty five points as a shorthanded Celtics
crushed the seventy six Ers won twenty three to one
oh five, and the Rockets outscored the Pelicans.

Speaker 8 (25:27):
One on nine to ninety seven.

Speaker 7 (25:29):
One game in men's college basketball, while one ranked team
was playing tonight, Number eight Michigan State did come back
to beat Iowa ninety one to eighty four. A couple
of hockey scores. The Jets crushed the Flyers four to one.
The Panthers have won five in a row. They shot
out the Blue Jackets three zero, while the Stars edged
the Flames three to two in overtime. And in baseball,

(25:49):
outfielder Lawrence Butler and the Azer in agreement on a
seven year, sixty six point five million dollar contract extension
that includes a club option and is.

Speaker 8 (25:57):
Pending a physical.

Speaker 7 (26:00):
Let's hope his ankle is okay, guys, because that'll suck.

Speaker 1 (26:03):
That suck.

Speaker 8 (26:03):
That was just like ruined the season.

Speaker 1 (26:05):
I liked that you got any more news off your watch?
No more news was pretty good, all right.

Speaker 7 (26:09):
I can tell you how many steps I've got though.

Speaker 1 (26:11):
But here, if you just got what's over under? What
do you think it's going to do? What's he over under?

Speaker 10 (26:16):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (26:17):
Jason? Two thousand, two thousand? I agree.

Speaker 7 (26:22):
It's actually a little higher than I thought. But four thousand,
which is low for me. Wow, that's low for me.
I was like, it's probably like two thousand. But you know,
I did get in a small workout, so that's probably.

Speaker 1 (26:32):
I think of I have four thousand, and I haven't
run since twenty and sixteen.

Speaker 8 (26:36):
I didn't run today.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
I didn't strong, guys.

Speaker 8 (26:41):
Apparently apparently it's good to be strong.

Speaker 1 (26:43):
All right, I'm gonna need that watch if you get
nixed updates on it, I'm gonna need that.

Speaker 8 (26:47):
I got you.

Speaker 1 (26:47):
Thanks. That's a wrist Jason and Mike Lot from the
tire rack dot Com Studios. Uh, look, yes, I hope
that that Jalen Brunson is going to be okay, hope
he's able to come back. Uh, we really so. And
look I know that it's Charles Barkley who is probably
hoping Jalen Brunson comes back at some point because he
could talk about something other than the Lakers. Oh that's true. Now,

(27:09):
this has been a big deal tonight going into the
Knicks Laker game, coming off the first game tonight, the
Celtics win again inside the NBA on TNT went on
to talk about the Lakers, and while Knicks Lakers clearly
is a huge game, it wasn't as much to Charles
Barkley because he was not a fan and not a

(27:30):
fan of always talking about the same big teams. Here's
Barkley from earlier tonight on the NBA TNT, just before
the Knicks and the Lakers tipped off.

Speaker 5 (27:41):
I saw a fool idiot on TV talking about the
Lakers save the NBA saved him. Yeah, yeah, he's an idiot,
a fool, but he know he is. What's his name, Shack,
which when you're talking about.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
He said the Lakers.

Speaker 5 (27:54):
First of all, the Lakers have had a great two weeks,
he said, the Lakers say the NBA season, that's because
them foods on the other network, which we're gonna be
working for next year, that's all they talk about. Let
me tell y'all something. First of all, I want all
the smoke. I don't listen when I walk by the
grid yard or anything like that. I don't whistle with
I want by the great like they man still in

(28:16):
that one. The Lakers are doing great, got a long
way to go. But the reason the season has been
going great for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Oklahoma City
Thunder y'all just want to talk about the Warriors and
the Lakers. They're both doing great. Don't get me wrong.
If I turn out to be wrong, I got no
problem with that. But y'all are idiots because y'all talk

(28:39):
about the Lakers and the Warriors all the time. Y'all
know the Cleveland Cavaliers have won twelve straight games.

Speaker 2 (28:45):
O Oklahoma Sated.

Speaker 5 (28:46):
Have got the MVP and they are on fire, y'all
to talk about who's in shucking place.

Speaker 1 (28:52):
That's the reason I get pissed. Hey, the Lakers are
doing great. I don't mind being wrong. Okay, Charles Barkley's
been in television, been a big deal for thirty years,
and clearly he still has no idea how television works.
How can you sit here and he's gotta know. Okay,

(29:14):
the big market teams with the big superstars Lebron James
and Luka Doncic, people are gonna want to talk about
them more. The Knicks and Jalen Brunson and Karl Anthony Towns,
people are gonna talk about them more. Yes, it's a
great year for the Cavaliers, it's a great year for
the Oklahoma City Thunder, and we talk about them, sure,
but clearly we look That's the thing is that sports

(29:34):
we are a read and react business. Right. We don't
tell you who the stars are. The stars show up organically,
and teams that people care about show up organically. And
if you're on television and you're talking about the Knicks
and the Lakers, you got a hell of a lot
more people watching you if you're talking about the Cavaliers
and the thunder. I'm sorry, but that's just the way
it goes. I'm sorry they're not more popular, but this

(29:56):
is this is the rule of popularity people went. So
when you're on television and you're talking about something more
people care about, more people are gonna watch you lay
the hits, my man, play the hits. If you're listening
to the radio and you want to hear hit songs
that are out now, if the DJ keeps playing, hey,
I got this deep cut coming your way from this album,

(30:17):
people are gonna go next channel, next channel, next channel.
This is how television works. And he knows it. And
I don't know if he's just looking for attention, looking
for a hot take, or doing exactly what he says
he's mad about instead of just talking about the Cavaliers
and the thunder. No, I'm gonna call Kendrick Perkins an idiot.
I'm gonna make a whole thing about it. I'm gonna
use the word idiot, and I'm gonna do exactly what

(30:37):
I'm accusing everybody else is doing. Oh, y'all talk to
the Lakers just to get a detention to Warriors, all this. Yeah,
people care about the war people care about Steph Curry. Right,
So we talk about the Warriors a lot. They were
a dynasty. But here's Barkley doing exactly what he is
accusing other people of doing, just so we can get attention.
I mean, dude, Yes, the Calves, they're a terrific team,
and the thunder terrific team. SGA is gonna win the MVP. Yeah, okay.

(31:00):
More people care about the big teams and the big
stars in any sport. And he knows this. He knows this,
but apparently not, and he's branded a television even though
he's been one of the highest rated shows, one of
the best sports shows last thirty years. He's Frankie first year.

Speaker 3 (31:15):
Now, No, he knew exactly what he was doing, though
we haven't talked about Charles and since he's saved the network,
since he saved the show or whatever he was trying
to do in terms of you know, the first time
you tell the story of I saved everybody's jobs and
I got to talk about it was cool. The fifteenth time,
it's like, all right, now it's you know, give me

(31:35):
my flowers. This is the same thing. Here, show me
some love. We haven't been talked about for a while,
because look, this was enough that not only did Kendrick
Perkins respond and start talking about how look it I'm
from this. I'll have him up like you know the
numbers on a A house. Okay, that's great, and then
you activated Steven A. Congratulations on this one hundred million

(31:58):
dollar deal. I'm hopeful for a small portion of all
that when it's all said done.

Speaker 10 (32:05):
But he activated back if I run for president, that's
the whole thing. And why do you see the debate
when me and whoever else runs against me are going
to debate about the next playoff chances? Where do you
see that debate on television?

Speaker 1 (32:17):
I need more than one minute.

Speaker 10 (32:18):
I can't get my next take out at one minute
and someone else is gonna go back.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
No, I need more than a minute.

Speaker 3 (32:25):
But that's the beauty of it, right, he got him
activated and out of politics for a minute to talk about, Hey,
you know, when you're around these hallways, plenty of folks
are looking to call you an idiot. I'm obviously giving
you a little brief synopsis and paraphrasing, but all of
that to say, yeah, I got everybody activated and angry
and talking talking about you know what, you're an idiot

(32:47):
and that's an idiot and that's a hot take and
hot take nonsense or whatever.

Speaker 1 (32:50):
It's good for business. He knows exactly what he's doing.

Speaker 3 (32:53):
He poked the bear. So now you have this fighting
that gets everybody talking about Charles, gets everybody talking about
this side of the NBA. And yeah, we talk about
the thunder. We've talked about Alexander quite a bit. It
moves the needle. But where are the big hits? What
do we get one point eight million or whatever off

(33:15):
the Caitlin Clark stuff?

Speaker 1 (33:17):
Talking about Sam Darnold and where he might go.

Speaker 3 (33:21):
You know, you're talking tens of thousands. It's what moves
play the hits. Why people still talk about the Cowboys
as a team. They're five hundred at best at best,
but they move the needle and get people fired up. Right,
Hate watching is a real thing. That's what happens with
the Lakers. So what happens with the Knicks? Like, why
do you talk about the Nicks a lot? It's like, well,

(33:42):
people get upset about the Knicks. Right, we talk about
star power. We mentioned Spike Lee before. What did I
show you picture of him and Timothy Shallowmey who showed
up for this game. Stars everywhere.

Speaker 1 (33:57):
That's it.

Speaker 3 (33:57):
People getting fired up about star heavy teams and big markets.
We can talk about the others shut they have their spot.

Speaker 1 (34:05):
Shout him, Hey, shot him hey anytime. That's all I'm
gonna say.

Speaker 3 (34:09):
Now, Shout him, Hey, I got you activt shout him
May Jason Smith.

Speaker 1 (34:15):
Mike Harmon live from the tire rack dot Com studio.
So good luck Charles Barkley and television trying to figure
out how it all works. Coming up next, another big
story out of the NBA, and we celebrate the express
pros pro of the week Jason and Mike.

Speaker 2 (34:27):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox.

Speaker 1 (34:37):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My bes friend
Mike Harmon. Just everybody, have all good thoughts for Jalen Brunson.
All good thoughts, all good thoughts, all good things, all
good things, all good things. Okay, Well it depends. We'll
see uh Mark Medina who joins the show with us.

(34:58):
He's gonna come with this Monday night, Lake Insider said
coming off of the next locker room. Jalen Brunton receiving treatment.
Too early to know what his status would be for
the game against the Clippers, but I got to think
that's going to be out. But at least it's so far.
It's hey, it's not all doom and gloom. It's we're

(35:18):
waiting to see what happens.

Speaker 3 (35:19):
So okay, Yeah, brutal though, I mean, just yeah, great game,
back and forth, Lakers got that first lead, you know
since the early thirties in the in the the game scoring,
and then the brunts and injury.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
Just cast a pall at all of it. I mean,
we had all the eight listers there. I can't have
nice one after another. I can't have nice things. Well,
I mean the Mets season is common. Yeah, no, that's it.
I'm all in on the Mets. It's surely all you
can do. All in on the Met's all I have.
I'm all in on the mat. That's that's all I have.
All I have is the Mets.

Speaker 3 (35:52):
You got that gull, I mean the little victories, man,
you take you take it day by day.

Speaker 1 (35:57):
Now.

Speaker 3 (35:57):
Look it played hard for you though, So I mean
that's good. Yeah, Look, it was a great game.

Speaker 1 (36:01):
It was an NBA final, Sorry, Barkley, he's an NBA
Finals preview. If Brunson is out right, there's twenty games
left in the regular season. The worst the Knicks can
do is really dropped to sixth because they have too
much of a lead on Miami. At seven they have
a ten game lead. You're not going to drop that
with with twenty games left. But I can see them

(36:23):
dropping out of the top five and suddenly things get
a lot more difficult. Though we drop out does matter
you're getting the Calvs or the Celtics in the second round.
But I can see them dropping out a losing home
court advantage because it's going to be difficult. You would
have to look at the sunny side and say, Okay,
we got to learn to play without them, and other
guys need to step up and mcal Bridges. You need
to start making shots. You can't take six shots. We

(36:45):
can have five number one picks. You got six shots
to night's game. Come on, man, Karl Anthony Towns, come
on mat So in the end, could you find a
silver lining? Maybe yeah, remaining strength to schedule.

Speaker 3 (36:57):
You're at about a five hundred record, all right, So
if you're about if if you finish about five hundred
other teams would have to play really well done, but
they could.

Speaker 1 (37:05):
But conceivably, the worst case scenario for the Knicks is
that they fall the sixth, not that they're going to,
but they would probably get They would probably get passed
by at least one team. Maybe the Bucks pass them, uh,
trying to play without Brunson. But that's about as far
as they'll go, which it doesn't matter. Okay, So then
you're playing one of these teams. You know, you're playing
either the Bucks or you're playing the Pistons, or you're

(37:25):
playing there. And then in the second round is the
big one where it's it's it's one of the two
unbeatable team. Yeah, you saw what the Celtics did today.
There was no Jalen Brown today. Yeah, it doesn't matter.
Welcome back in damn. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (37:36):
It's like they're a tag team match today. Yeah, I
mean not all good all good s. Richard's still at nineteen,
I know, yeah, but he's flashing the pan. He had
forty three last night. Come on wait wait, I'm sorry,
Like we've got to inform everybody they played the Sixers.

Speaker 1 (37:52):
Yeah, sixers show. If you're ready for a new job.

(38:15):
eight times you stare over at the other team's bench
after you make a big shot, you get to be
the Express pros Pro of the week. Lakers in front
cannot to it now it's had it ob on Doci.

Speaker 2 (38:31):
The switch again, dotchich.

Speaker 4 (38:33):
Over time, Luka dodgic wor is it a twenty seven footer?

Speaker 1 (38:46):
Uh? Nicks had Karl Anthony Towns out on him. Nicks
had Ogander Noobi out on him, and it just didn't
matter TNT on the call. Uh, congratulations, Luka Donci, you
are the Express pros Pro of the week.

Speaker 3 (38:59):
And you got to do the post game interview too
because Lebron's told Taylor Rooks to beat it.

Speaker 2 (39:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (39:03):
Yeah, it looked like that, Hey Lebron, can we okay?

Speaker 3 (39:05):
He just walked away, He just kept going. He just
and then they said, hey, you gotta do this. Meanwhile,
he's going, where's Jalen because he wanted to dap him
up at the end of the games. Yeah, he's out there.
We did answer a question that we had in terms
of celebrity row okay, who was hanging out with Bob
Costas and company?

Speaker 1 (39:20):
Who because Bob Costas was hanging out with a force him.
It was Bob Costas, It was John McEnroe, and it
was who else was who was next to John McEnroe? Uh,
somebody remember I said it was the eighties. It was
John McEnroe and it was it wasn't Rob Low with
somebody Don Johnson, Don Johnson, Johns Johnson or maybeybe. They

(39:43):
were going to do a Captain Odyssey promo. I don't know,
I know what it made good? This Shirk who was
the fourth guy?

Speaker 3 (39:48):
Wait Warner CEO David Zaslove so like out of context,
I'm like, all right, no, it's not that actor.

Speaker 1 (39:56):
It's not that guy.

Speaker 3 (39:57):
I know that guy's face because I read a lot
of the business articles I've I love Front office sports
and all of that stuff. I'm a big nerd when
it comes to that, and obviously the business of television.
It's like, oh, that's who Costas is talking, all right,
So there we go.

Speaker 1 (40:10):
So we answered, We answered that. And the big thing
for Luca right to talk about this, The one thing
we've talked about a long time is how Luca Hey,
he's got to start hitting more threes.

Speaker 5 (40:19):
You know that.

Speaker 1 (40:19):
Earlier this hour we talked about how he gives Lebron
a break and that allows Lebron to stay fresher because
he's so ball dominant, and Lebron can dominate like he
has in the fourth quarters. But Luca's three points made
in a game with the Lakers one three, one, four,
one one the last three games five, six, and four,

(40:41):
he started to hit his three.

Speaker 3 (40:42):
You see big Bedega trying to chase him out on
that three, and the smile that he had on his
face as they started ot.

Speaker 1 (40:48):
Exit out about a Fresca X It's swollen dome from Mike,
