(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Greetings and welcome inside
the Jason Smith Show with my best friend Brett Brady
and l m v P. Brett Beatty. There it is.
I told you before the season Aaron Judge was gonna
win the a l m v P. Now Brett Batty
(00:44):
maybe the greatest player in baseball history, after his home
run debut tonight for the New York Mets in their
win over the Atlanta Braves. Well, now we have a
battle with the moms though, Beatty versus Wilson. Let's get
it on. Yeah, but Wilson is not playing well, else
is not playing for a while. I I think this
is gonna be Brett Batty. But Wilson's mom has the friends,
(01:07):
so that legend there. But now you got Beatty's mom
doing the Uh. I don't know if she was at
a Judas Prix show. Maybe some old time docking. I
don't know. What about Warren get a little bit of
Dick Tracy and while we're Atty, Yeah, like what about
Ned Beatty? What about now she does she? Now you
(01:28):
got a Deliverance reference. You just killed the whole the Dodgers.
I just made it. I could have been making a
Superman reference when he was Otis. He was Otis to
the great Gene Hackmanburg. It's Itty Batty Place, Mrs Luke
thor Otisberg Otisburg. Uh. Yeah, No, Brett Batty's mom with
(01:49):
the devil horns up when when he hits That was yeah.
And this on the anniversary of Ozzy Osbourne doing the
worst rendition of the seventh Inning stretch ever it all
comes together, Yeah, no it does. But she's got her
hands up like Dome do do. Yeah. That was the
next level stuff of legend. The moms taken over double
(02:11):
Hart before I get back to the dugout, look at me,
at me, Yes, we salute you. Happ inflate h dark
little to take me inaring trying to help to please
(02:54):
fake your own How how many years ago is that today? Oh,
I don't even remember the actual what year was that?
That was? Okay, nineteen years Because here's the thing is
(03:16):
that maybe I'm just throwing this out. There's a hot
here's an Ozzy Osborne hot take before we get into
Baker Mayfield. Here Ozzy Osborne hot take. You know, I
tell you that that that if Pitty Cent tanked his
his pitch because he knew, I'll get attention if I
throw a really bad first pitch. And now in Major
League Baseball, when guys throw out bad first pitch, as
(03:38):
you know, it's for attention because you know it will
trend on Twitter, it will get it too, it will
live as a jef for a meme, you know. So
they do it on purpose. So whenever somebody throws a
really bad first pitch, I know there's a reason behind it.
Do you think Ozzy sang like that on purpose because
he knew a if I sing it the odsy way
with the chat, that people would pay attention to it,
(03:58):
because at that was why the reality show would have
been on at that point, right and all that stuff. Uh,
And during the February of that year, he had released
the Essential Ozzy Osborne compilation album charted only as high
as eighty one on the US charts, number twenty one
in the UK. Wow, look at you, You're like you're
(04:20):
like Casey Kayson right there. Well, you know you gotta
do your best to bring some specificity to the world here.
I mean you started with Crazy Trained a little, Mr
Crowley Live, I don't know, Classic, Uh, Goodbye to Romance,
Flying High, Paranoid, all the songs you would come to
know and love uh and respect. And you find in
(04:42):
all the greatest hits of Ozzy Osbourne from the New millennium.
Now that's true. And then he showed up at a
big festival in the UK to close down like a
conference and that was his first live appearance since battling
all these health issues. So kind of a big deal
it d J Mike Harmon clearly taking a shot in
(05:02):
the dark. The last two minutes was good radio, d J.
You want to talk about my tooth some more? Is
that better? Buddy? You gotta get that tooth replace man,
it's been. It's radio. Nobody cares questions. No, Yeah, go ahead,
Frostburg without a tooth? Can you bite a bat's head off?
Probably no, I think you can't use your other two. Now,
(05:24):
if you don't have to, you just stick the bat's
head in the gap and then just to shoot the gap. No,
that's good, that's good. That would be hard. No, no,
no no, because then you you get it placed like
it's wedged in, like like you're setting up the guillotine,
and it bad. I got a bat caught in my mouth.
I can't get the bat out. The butt stuck in
my mother. Ah, there we go. Oh, that bat's head
(05:46):
was tough. Map that was that was furry. And you're
licking your fingers with the drink right now. I was.
You know what, he's actually eating a big mac and
now he's using this as an excuse to lick his fingers.
Go ahead, good advice, tall players. You know what, that
might be my favorite thing that ty shirt plays. I
(06:08):
don't know. I love the stephen A. Smith Stay off
the Weed, Whitney Houston. But but that Bill Belichick like
licking his fingers as he's talking in the press conference,
that might be my favorite. It's like he's like he's
finishing food. Yeah, yeah, you caught me at snack time.
What do you want? Good advice? Good advice, steals from
(06:29):
Jimmy Dugan The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon on
Brett Batty night here on the show, Um, we had
big football news a little bit over an hour ago,
according to The Athletic, their NFL insider. Then the story
was picked up by Pro Football Focus. The quarterback derby
battle in Carolina is over and the winner is Brett
(06:51):
Batty and the winner is Baker Mayfield. He will be
named the starting quarterback for the season over Sam Donald.
If you remember, Matt had talked about right around now
being the time he wanted to make his decision after
the joint practices with the New England Patriots. That's when
he wanted to know who his guy was going to be.
(07:11):
And now this is right around the time they have
the game coming up on Thursday night, on Friday night
rather so we get the news now that Baker Mayfield
is the starter. Now let me let me let me
say this. When this first happened and the Panthers got
Baker Mayfield, I I feel shame because I told you
something that didn't come true. I told you Sam Donald
(07:33):
would start out being the quarterback and that would be Mayfield.
And yes, I feel shame. I feel shame because I
thought it was gonna be legitimate competition and it wasn't.
From the beginning, this was rigged for Baker Mayfield to
win it. Now, look, I didn't think Donald was going
to be the quarterback forever. But for Mayfield to get
(07:54):
in there and get caught up on the playbook and
and and and and win a starting job in pre
ce sason, when how do you really win that? Uh? No,
Sam Darlal would start the season as the quarterback and
then eventually Baker Mayfield would take over an early part
of the season, because that's why they got Baker Mayfield
after all, was to be the starter. But this clearly
was fixed for him to win. It was a competition
(08:17):
right away. There was no hey, Sam's our guy. Baker's
in and now he's got to learn. No, this was
we're throwing the guys in. It's a direct competition. And
the only reason they said it was a competition was
if Baker Mayfield took a while to learn the playbook,
they could dial it back pretty easy and Matt Rule
could say, hey, it's it's it's where it is right now,
(08:39):
both guys are good. Sam's probably a little ahead because
Baker's got some learning to do. He's got to get
the playbook down, he's got to get chemistry with the
wide receivers, and so it's gonna be a little bit.
But no, they made it a competition only because if
Mayfield slowed down, it would be easy to say, hey,
Sam's the winner. They wanted Mayfield to be able to
do this. And the fact that Mayfield's at the same
(09:00):
spot right now with Donald, it's not that he's out
playing Sam Donald. Everything we've seen so far, they've been
about the thing. Even today. They were the same in
the joint practice against the New England Patriots. So if
you're the same, what are you waiting for? You're gonna
make Baker Mayfield the starter. It was rigged for him
to win the job as long as he didn't fall
on his face or show that I need some time
(09:21):
to pick things up. He didn't, So now Mayfield's the starter.
Caroline is going forward and at some point in the
next two weeks, Sam Donald's gonna either get traded or
released because you can't keep last year's starter on the
roster when he's gonna back up a brand new guy
coming in. This is not a veteran had the job
and here comes a rookie. This is not a guy
(09:41):
had the gig and then he lost it because he
got hurt and a new younger player came in and
started playing well. So he doesn't get the job back.
This was last year's starter all season while he was healthy,
comes in again and loses a quarterback derby. He's not
gonna be around. They will try to find a trade
partner and get what they can form. If not, they'll
just release him. Because Matt Corral is a guy they
(10:03):
probably have curiosity about as well. He's gonna want to
get some reps. And if Baker Mayfield can't do it
and he stinks, guess what they want to see what
Matt Corral has. So the three guys on the roster,
those three players don't all work. Mayfield wins the derby,
he's the starter. Donald will be on another team by
September one. Yeah, there's no question about it. At this point.
You're talking about a guy. In the final year he
(10:24):
was with the Jets yards nine touchdowns, eleven interceptions. Going
now he shows up in Carolina yards nine touchdowns, thirteen interceptions,
bringing Baker Mayfield, you drafted Krall, and if Corral showed
out well enough, guess what Sam Donald was finding the pines.
Even if Matt rule Uh is on the hot seat,
(10:45):
you'd rather go down swinging with the guy that you
don't know how he's going to acclimate and what you're
going to see versus Sam Donald might have a moment
here and there, but he's not going to be consistent
enough to elevate you to any prominent status in the NFC.
So you bring in Baker Mayfield, who you've seen have success. Now,
is this team anywhere as close to the talent that
(11:09):
he had in Cleveland? Hell no, But you do have
a couple of big playmakers in DJ More and Christian McCaffrey.
If he can stay healthy, and then you hope that
some of those secondary receivers start to pop up and
give you a little bit of consistency. But for Baker Mayfield,
you know he's willing to go out and sling the
ball around the yard. For better or for worse. There's
(11:30):
gonna be some some games and some throws to confuse you,
but you can at least maybe find yourself into an
extra win or two. Is he a world beater? Hell no,
He wouldn't be out of Cleveland. Uh. If he was right,
they wouldn't even have gotten did the Deshaun Watson um
situation of signing him and bringing him in if Mayfield
(11:51):
had been more consistent uh and been elevate and able
to elevate on a consistent basis, Uh the roster that
was around him. So they make the the flip to
a guy they think is the top five when a
suspension is done for Mayfield. You've seen flashes, You've seen
opportunities in Matt Rule. You're gonna go with the guy
that at least gives you the hair standing up on
(12:15):
the back of your neck because you have no idea
what's gonna happen with Sam Donald. You're pretty sure you're
you're going to score your seventeen to twenty one points
and you're gonna have to grind out games. Maybe Baker
gives you just enough juice to get you over the
hump and save your job. Well, even if he doesn't,
he's gonna bring more excitement to the position and more
(12:37):
excitement to the Sure you know you know what you
have in Sam Darnald. He's not gonna suddenly be a
great quarterback in year six. Right, it's not gonna happen.
But Mayfield had some flashes he started, He's got that
it factor about him. You're bringing in a new energy,
and maybe Mayfield works better in this in this system.
It brings new amounts of hope and and potential for
(12:58):
this for this team. So I get that part. That's
why I thought Mayfie'll be the quarterback at some point.
I just didn't think he would catch up and and
and be able to take the job over in the preseason.
I told you what you got there and Sam Donald,
I told you Donald should retire if he loses his
job in the preseason. He's he's heading to a backup
quarterback somewhere. And don't say the Jets. Don't say the
(13:20):
Jets are gonna get him it don't don't say that
it's not gonna happen. I mean, a couple of days
ago it might have happened. But it's not happening now.
It's not it's not happening. It's not happening. None of you.
It's not happening. It's not happen. But yeah, with with
Sam Donald, you know what you have at this point, right,
that's it's a long laundry list of issues. And while
Mayfield may have only had that one year, he still
(13:41):
has that one year that you can say, maybe we
can recapture a little bit of that. And I hear
a lot of folks complaining he can't have a chip
on your shoulder anymore. You can have a chip on
your damn shoulder however you like. Just because you got
money in the bank or where you were drafted doesn't stop.
Haven't we paid, you know, honor to everything Michael Jordan was.
(14:04):
Aren't we celebrating Steph Curry as King Petty? Right? Isn't
that a new character that he's created in this whole
latest championship run, And we're gonna celebrate that. The Baker
can go do what he needs to do. He just
needs to go win and it will justify everything and
he can shut everybody up. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays

The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon
Hobo live from the Brett Baty Studios here in Fox
Sports Radio. Brand new sponsorship. If you know that, Mike,
but we had that new spotship today, just I didn't.
That's fantastic, you know what. I'm surprised though that game
(14:46):
has been over for a long time. At no point
have you begged, pleaded to hear that home run. Well,
Moncy plays it in every update, play every update, but
but he hears every update. But here's the thing. If
I say, let's hear it now, I'm gonna get the
butt fumble and I'm not going to get the bread
basin football season, Seela was gonna happen. You spoke that
(15:11):
in New Existence that Brett baty first at bad as
it met home run, Mets beat the Braves. Jacob deGrom tomorrow,
good luck everybody having fun. UH. In the National football
we talked a few minutes ago. Baker Mayfield. According to
reports from the Athletic Pro Football Focus UH, Baker Mayfield
(15:33):
is winning the and has won the Carolina Panthers job,
and he'll will be the starting quarterback of the Panthers
this year. Official announcement could be coming anytime soon, but
this is not a surprise. They play the Patriots on
Friday night. Matt Rule wanted to make his decision around
this time. That's a story we expected, the one we
(15:55):
didn't expect involves Aaron Rodgers. It was a day ago
that Aaron Rodgers was very upset at wide receivers not
catching passes at practice, angry, very angry, and he said
after practice that he really needed some guys to take
a step up. He was really upset. Take a listen
(16:17):
the young guys. You know, they gotta, especially young receivers,
we've gotta be way more consistent. You know, a lot
of a lot of drops, a lot of bad route decisions,
running wrong route. So we gotta we gotta get better
in that area. It's coming up. Yeah, it's coming up.
I really is. We're gonna play our best guys. Yeah,
when the season starts, and whoever those guys are, those
(16:39):
guys are gonna get the reps. And it's the guys
I trust the most, and the guys that's coaches to
have trust the most. And a lot of it is
just this simple responsibility in the offense way before you know,
body positioning and movement and throw and all that stuff.
It's are you doing in the right spot at the
right time? You know, are you run the right route?
So what happened after this, Well, we heard from some
(17:02):
luminaries at Packers practice, and then early this morning at am,
the wide receivers all went to the quarterback room and
all the quarterbacks were there, and coaches were there, and
Bart Starr was there, and Jerry Kramer was there, and
Paul Horning was there, and Don mckowski was there, and
everybody was there to tell these young receivers, hey, you
gotta catch the football. Aaron Rodgers didn't call the meeting,
(17:26):
but he was there and he spoke a lot um.
I don't know if this is just how I feel
every time Aaron Rodgers opens his mouth, But this story
is so irksome. It's just it's just irksome. And and
he just irks me now, And that's what I mean, Like,
I don't know if I could feel that I'm just
irked by him in general, that when he opens his
(17:46):
mouth to say something, I'm irked by it. Because we
went two years of him saying how horrible things were
in Green Bay and I could leave it. It was
so bad that he wound up staying and signing a
huge contract ext engine right, So now anything he says
I don't care about anymore. Every no, everything was so
bad for two years, but he realized he was able
(18:07):
to grab the news cycle whenever he spoke because he's
Aaron Rodgers. And now, well, wait a minute, people don't
really pay attention to me as much because I've stayed
So now I'm gonna make sure I say something because
this is just stupid, and maybe this is why it. Okay,
who is he mad at? This was not? Was he
mad at Alan Lazard number one receiver? No, he wasn't
mad at him? Okay, Sammy Watkins, No, we're mad at
(18:29):
Randall cop No? What about Romeo Dubbs, he's big training
camp sensation. Probably running is the fourth receiver? No, not
mad at him? Who the hell are you mad at?
You're only gonna keep five receivers on the roster, right,
and and likely Christian Watson when he when he gets healthy,
which I think he's just off the puplist now is
gonna be the other guy? So you're mad at guys
that aren't gonna make the team. What the hell purpose
(18:49):
does this serve other than to hear yourself talk and
to say, hey, I'm in the news. I'm upset because
our guys aren't catching passes. You're mad at people? Who
aren't going to make the team. So how does this
serve any purpose? Tell me any quarterback in the NFL.
I can't say Brady because he's not with the team.
But tell me any other quarterback any other crowd. I
can't say Zach Wilson because he's But tell me any
(19:11):
other quarterback, whether it's Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes or
Russell Wilson. Is anyone going to the media and saying, Hey,
our wide receivers need to catch the ball more young
wide receivers. No, nobody is. You know why, because this
is the NFL and all the wide receivers on the team. No,
if I don't catch the ball, I'm getting cut. I
(19:32):
don't want to get cut. I want to play in
the NFL. Well, I mean, what the hell I mean? Really,
Rogers is gonna tell you things that the coaches don't
tell you. We need to be sharper running routes. You
need to catch the ball. Um, Hey, wide receivers, coach,
Yeah that's me, Aaron. Don't worry about it, man, do
your thing, I got it. You worry about doing things like, hey,
putting touchdowns on the board in the playoffs against the
niners and then not saying just the offense failed. You know,
(19:54):
say I failed, don't just say the offense failed. You
worry about that. I'll worry about the wide receivers. I
get he's out of voice, But what purpose does this
serve other than to hear himself talk? Because none of
this here is anything that's going to be constructive. It's
just a story to have a story. But I realized
I may be just irked by him in general, and
(20:14):
maybe this is what's got me on it. So you
tell me percentage chance that this is me being irked
and me being on with Aaron Rodgers liking to hear
himself talk. What do you got for me, my Karmen, Well,
I got six irks, and I mean I get it
to that that I understand you being irked. Okay, So
(20:39):
not just opposed to it being understand what got it
as opposed to it being a big story. Let's face it,
it's the second week of training camp and our contender
for other big story is the Carolina Panthers quarterback job.
I'll pause for a second because, like the Brady situation,
we don't know what it is. Right. There's a bunch
(20:59):
of tabloidals, stuff speculating about his marriage and all these
other that we have no idea, and he at some
point in theory someone will give us better direction as
to what this is all about, other than he had
an agreement that he could walk away for a couple
of weeks. Okay, whatever that is. So in in the
void we have this, and we have Aaron Rodgers giving
(21:22):
us a little bit of coaching them up, a little
bit of passive aggressiveness to the front office, and and
I know they made an honest offer to Davante Adams
and he's gone. In the rest of your receivering core,
you've got a lot of question marks and guys that
were number twos or threes elsewhere or maybe once upon
(21:43):
a time where the apple of another quarterbacks eye and
another destination and you're trying on the reclamation project and
maybe it works. I gotta trust that Aaron Rodgers isn't
gonna suddenly fall flat on his face. But to his
point of, hey, you know, we we've got this, so
we we've got to mind our p's and ques. We
gotta get on the same page. And it's all stuff
(22:05):
that still being said on the practice field to see
being said in the meeting's room. But you know what
this does. It puts everybody on notice and it gives
him something where he can Depending on your point of view,
as opposed to just being irked, you could see him
as a good team guy saying I really still give
a damn Because for a lot of folks it was, well,
(22:26):
he's gonna retire now. He came back for the money, right,
that was a lot of the three year, hundred fifty
or three one year deals. However you look at it,
all he came back for was the filthy lucre. It
wasn't about winning. It's not his competitive drive. It's not.
And here he's saying, no blank that we gotta be good,
we gotta be ready and get after it. So you said,
(22:49):
filthy luker, like he's a pirate. Hay, filthy looker. I
was taking a little bit of the sex pistols mixed there,
and I mean, you know, we got a lot of it.
But the the just the idea that he's certainly not
rolling over because to hear the lamentation and people, uh
(23:09):
you might might very well hear the the fiddles, not
not necessarily fiddles, the violins playing and you know the
funeral dirges being sung the way Davante Adams isn't there?
Oh no, it all falls apart. Yeah, like this guy
was a stiff before I Adams showed up. Come on.
This allows people to get all mad and say, wow,
(23:32):
lowery expectations, jump on board the Vikings bandwagon. Then he
comes back over the top and gives you the discount
double check also known as the degeneration X crotch maneuver.
You know, and and maybe with him, had he taken more,
(23:52):
I would say responsibility after the playoff loss to the
forty nine is I'd say, okay, But it's like, you know,
when he said the defense played great, specially play great.
All the offense didn't play well, and we a team
a team, but quarterback is different. You're getting paid forty
million dollars a year. Yeah, I didn't do it. I
didn't do it. That's you are, and you're a quarterback.
(24:14):
Other positions I get we we we with a quarterback.
We That's the first thing you're taught when you know
you're gonna answer questions before and after games as a quarterback,
is that it's we after a win and it's I
after a loss, and you have the offense didn't get
it done. No, dude, you're the guy. You're the guy
they were expecting. You're the guy they're paying all the
money to man take responsibility. And now you're just gonna
lose it over a bunch of guys that aren't gonna
(24:35):
make the team. I mean, what do you think you're doing? Right?
If this was If this was the case, and I
would even go this far, if this was the case
of the entire offense playing poorly and Lizard wasn't running
the right routes and and Sammy Watkins having trouble adjusting
dropping passes, it was alright, guys, we gotta get our
act together here. Alright, all you guys, this is not good. Okay,
that I get because he's trying to make sure that
(24:57):
things for the team are going to stay on track,
because he says it's coming up soon, and yes, we're
three weeks from the regular season, he wants. But again
he's mad at guys that that people don't even know
their names, and he doesn't even know their names. It's
the young guys. Gotta young guys. Why who's gonna make
the team? Tell me, because I'll pick him up in
fantasy because all the all the Packers wide receivers, they're
all gone in all our leagues because people fake Romeo
(25:20):
Dubbs is gonna be great, and Alan Lazard is gonna
suddenly catch basses like DeAndre Hopkins. They're all gone. Tell
me that guy, Aaron Rodgers, Tell me that guy. You can't.
You can't. He's just mad to be mad and to
hear himself talk. If there was a purpose to this,
I would give it to him. I'm not unreasonable, I'm
very reason I'm a reasonable guy. I am calm, cool
and collected twenty four hours a day. I would absolutely
(25:41):
give him that benefit of the doubt. Mike, Well, now
now you're irked, That's what I mean. And I and
I mean how much? How much? How much irking am I?
How irked am I really with this? I mean, that's
kind of where I'm at. But you gave me seventy
percent that it was legitimate and just me being worked
by himself? Okay with that? Well, yeah, because I think,
(26:02):
like I said, a lot of it, I think is
is inflated by the fact that we don't have a
lot of stories going on. The the thirty percent and
depending on I'm feeling generous. You know, I was off
a couple of days. I did some soul searching, had
a lot of like bad bad news, bad issues, uh
and whatever. But you know what, we're back together, so
it's all good. Uh. And and you look at the
(26:26):
the thirty percent wherever that sliding scale is, I think
more related to your lumping Rogers into your Belichick Patriots
Brady hate. No, no, no, you're getting close, because there
there's a lot of it was on the field that
the Jets couldn't beat them, but eventually it became personal
(26:46):
and now you want them in this grudge match for
all time, that your your hell bent, that everything they
do is a calculated employ only to one up the other,
which is an interesting concept. And if I could do
the inside out thing there you go kids movie and
just go and lounge around your mind, I'd love to
watch those different factions battle related to that story. But
(27:09):
I think Aaron Rodgers over the last couple of years
is vexed. You irked you to the point where you're
pretty close to being right on par with your hatred.
Uh no no, no no, it's and and everything that
was about them. Notice how I talked about it being
an inflated story and immediately transition to the patriots wordsmithing
people one on one. Uh but but I think that's
(27:32):
where we're at now. Hang on, I'm I'm not. You
can't say for two years I was fine. You hated
until no, no, no, I was fine until he decided
to stay. When I told you, he wasted our time
for the last two years waiting, Yes, he did. I
could go, I could go, I could go, like, no,
(27:52):
I'm not gonna go on with this. But there's the thing.
He did exactly what I said he was going to.
So it was just fine for those two years for
me because I was but that's me, and I was
irked by it because he wasted our time. That's when
I got upset with him. That's when I started getting irked.
I wasn't irked until he decided to stay. That's what
That's when he started getting You're up to double digit.
I don't know what the penalty is. You may have
(28:13):
to eat ten big Max. Is that a penalty really?
To get to the sixth one? I'm gonna guess the
gastronomic problems will start to set in. They tie your
shirt what's the over under No, no, no, bubble guts
you giving me no, no, no, you don't tell me
I got to eat like ten within within like five minutes.
I can just No. No, I'm not saying you gotta
scar from that, but I mean with the yeah, reasonable eating,
(28:38):
I don't know if I could do that. I think
I could do ten in four hours of the show. Yeah,
I think if I don't eat most of the day
one and you can't do ten in four minutes, No, no,
Frostberg's really got my back point in four minutes. No,
I think I could do ten. A fraud. How do
(28:59):
you feel if I eat? You've been training for thirty
years and you can't do ten in four minutes and two, three, four,
that's like one every half hour. I think I could
do ten, big Max, You're going to start counting like Frances,
I might be able to do that. I might be
able to Let me think about that. And I do
(29:20):
one at seven, seven thirty eight o'clock. That's three. It's
way too much time in between, all right. I do
a couple right at seven, then one at seven thirty,
then one at eight. Then I'll I would go to
the last time you ate two back to back, two
back to back. What's today? There's no way you have
(29:46):
a deal right now on your app? Well sometimes well
sometimes where you can get to the second one for
twenty nine cents. He's man, yeah, yeah, you know, I
just won't get anything else. I'll just get two Big
Max and a and a I coke because you don't
diet coke. That really what makes them. How many times
have you gone through the drive through, picked up your
big mac ate it and drove right back around and
(30:08):
got another one? I know I haven't done that, liar
to say? How many times have you gone to the
McDonald's near work and finished the big back before you
got to work. Be sure to catch live editions of

We got sniff Out. It's gonna be glorious, but a
lot of Trevor Simeon. It could be a ton just
every Northwestern player possibles were playing in that game. Um
(31:40):
Earlier today, Albert Brier Sports Illustrated put out a report
that last year Lamar Jackson was not gonna play this
week in the in the Ravens preseason game, Lamar Jackson
was offered a contract with an average yearly value of
forty three million dollars a year. Now, this is a
(32:01):
year ago when Mahomes had the most at forty five,
and then Josh Allen was at forty three and the Ravens. Hey,
we understand that Lamar is at that level. Uh. Lamar
Jackson still doesn't have a contract extension entering the last
year of his rookie deal, and Lamar Jackson says, I'd
like a contract by the beginning of the season, and
I'm cutting off any kind of negotiation then, and considering
(32:24):
he's his own agent, that's probably a good idea. The
Ravens have said, hey, we want to give Lamar money.
We're waiting, We're trying to figure it out. Um. Yeah,
time for reality with this. We are probably less than
a year away from the Ravens training Lamar Jackson. All right,
he's gonna play this year obviously, but the Ravens would
(32:46):
have to franchise him next year. And franchise is gonna
be a lot of money. Is gonna be forty million dollars.
And if both sides wanted a deal done, they would
have done it. They would have done it by now.
And and neither side wants to seem like they're the
bad guy because Lamar is saying, hey, I want to
get paid, the Ravers saying hey, we want to pay you.
But it doesn't matter because the bottom line is that
(33:08):
hasn't happened. And whether it's Lamar Jackson wanting so much
money the Ravens aren't ready for it, or Lamar Jackson
wanting out, or for the Ravens they either hey, we're
ready to give Lamar Jackson whatever he wants, he doesn't
want it, or we don't want to go that high. Right,
there's those are the four possibilities. It doesn't matter because
if there was a desire for both sides to come
(33:29):
to an agreement, they would have had an agreement. All right.
They know what the money is going to be, they
know what it's going to be about. We don't know
what the yearly value of the contract was that that
was on the table last year. Could have been a
three year deal at forty three million year. We don't
know what the guaranteed money was at all. But the
fact remains at Here's Lamar Jackson is one of the
m v P and he's really really good. He's a
(33:49):
top five, top seven quarterback, and he hasn't had a
contract extension yet and he's going into the final year
of his rookie deal. You don't let guys go into
the final year that rookie you'll if you don't have to,
you want to lock the guy up and keep him
around for a long time. So the fact that that
hasn't happened tells me that we are a few months
away from Lamar Jackson getting traded because if they franchise
(34:11):
him and keep him, well, eventually when they trade him,
they're not gonna get a lot of value for him.
So they're gonna trade him when they can get a
Russell Wilson type package for him, which is a couple
of star players, two or three first round draft picks.
That's what they're going to do, and they'll get more
for him because he's a younger player than than than
Russell Wilson is. So we're probably a few months away, Itch,
(34:31):
and I by that, I mean when we get into
the next offseason of Lamar Jackson being the crown jewel
of the off season, because they're gonna open up and
say we are trading Lamar Jackson. Who's got the best offer? Yes,
certainly the curiosity, right, what's that average yearly salary? He does?
He wanted to eclipse now what Kyler Murray is at right?
(34:52):
That extra tick so he says forty six point two
per year. But I question about the the year, right,
what's the length of the contract guaranteed money, him, Watson Murray,
all of those things, but also perhaps a philosophical shift
of do I want to run my body through this
offense for another couple of seasons? Right? We talked about
(35:15):
this a lot with Deebo. Samuel is one of these
sticking points with the forty nine is before he got
his deal, the idea that he didn't want to be
a running back essentially at times for that offense in
the end to what makes him special. Likewise, Lamar has
been used to that same level. But you can see,
and history has shown this that the end comes a
(35:36):
little faster for quarterbacks playing that type of style. So
maybe on some level, even without the advice of agents,
you've got people around that maybe you're telling you, hey,
you need to go somewhere else to maximize twitter at
how about a fresco Mike gets swollen down The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Harmon. We're just a few months
away and you're gonna see Lamar Jackson be the apple
(35:56):
of half the league's i because they'll all want to
trade for him. Coming up next, my buddy Ben Maller,
This is Fox Sports Radio. Happy d grom Day,
