the All Star Game meant?

So today the WNBA All Star teams were picked, and
it's kind of fun. You have legends game, you have,
you have legends coaching the teams. It's it's a it's
a pretty cool thing. As GMS drafted the All Stars,
Teresa Weatherspoon, Cynthia Cooper picked the teams. Pretty awesome, right,
And the way it went was this, Paige Beckers was

the number one vote get her, so she automatically got
assigned to Cynthia Cooper's team the first pick. Then for
Teresa Weatherspoon, she took Caitlin Clark and then she took
Asia Wilson, it went back Brianna Stewart and back and forth,
and there's already some smack talk going on here ahead.
You know, it's you know, look, it's it's going to
be a fun event. But it's bigger than that. The

next few years, and I mean by basically, as long
as Caitlin Clark is in the WNBA, the WNBA is
gonna have the best all Star game of any sport,
of any sport, Baseball, whatever the hell they wind up
doing with the Pro.

Bowl, Pro Bowl games, man, come on.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Hockey, whatever it is, like once in a while, Hey,
we're gonna run USA versus the world. Okay, yeah, that's great,
but uh, I mean, you're stunt casting for the All
Star Games, right, You're stunt casting for it. You can't
get past the fact that, well, the games in all
of those leagues are less than competitive. There's there's less
than I feel like, Hey, you gotta find a way
to motivate people actually get to the games and play, right,

that's been the big thing. But why will the WNBA
All Star Game be the best All Star game of
the next few years? Two reasons. Number One, we talk
about the NBA being a star studded league. The WNBA
is even a bigger star studded league, whether it's Clark
or Wilson, Aliah Boston, Kelsey Mitchell, Stuart Becker's, Angel Reese,

Marina Maybrey. Like, these are all the best players that
you hear about and you read about every single day
on social media. Whether you see, hey, this is what
they did in a game last night. Here's the outfit
that so and so wartered were game before she dropped
twenty five and eleven, right, whatever it is. These are
the biggest stars, and the WNBA has big stars. They
are big stars that people read about and read about,

people fighting about every single.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
Day every day.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
It's a Caitlin Clark drama, it's an Angel Reese drama,
it's a Sophie Cunningham drama, whatever it is. And you're
getting all of these players together for one game for
one weekend. Right, this is this is something that the
average sports fan wants to see. Hey, I'm getting all
it's like, it's kind of like the first time you
saw I saw the Avengers get together. I still remember
(06:11):
seeing the trailer for the Avengers. After you had Iron
Man movies and four movies. All right, that's great, And
the first Avengers trailer and they're all back to back
in New York and I said, oh my god, this
is amazing. This is a comic book come to life.
Seeing them all in one movie like that was absolutely
mind blowing. And the success of the MCU, I don't
think people take that much of it into account. That's
(06:32):
seeing that was so groundbreaking that we went along with
that journey as long as they wanted to go with it.
Right now, you're getting all of these players in one place.
Was it all These players have been around for a while. Yeah,
but with Caitlin Clark coming into the league, now there's
fights physically, there's fights in social media, there's disagreements. Do
the players like each other? Do they not like each other?
(06:53):
Do they like Caitlyn Clark? Do they not like Caitlyn Clark?
Do they like Angel Rees? Do they can't stand Angel Rees?
Is there rivalry between these players? Do Page Beckers and
Caitlin Clark really respect each other's games? Do they get along?
These are all things that we want to see. I
want to see Paige Beckers matched up against Caitlin Clark.
I want I want to see Kaitlyn Clark against Kelsey Mitchell.
All right, I want to see star. I want to

see Angel Reese against Caitlin Clark in some sort of situation. Right, Like,
Kitlyn Clark again is the big common denominator of this
because you can argue whether or not she's the best
player in the league. You can't argue she's the biggest star.
So all of this is stuff that people want to see.
This is still new to us. It's new. We really hey,
I want to see what this looks like, you know,
over the course of next weekend. But the other thing

is this, and this is what the other sports cannot replace.
They cannot replace the fact that all of them want
to ball out against everybody else because they read the
same blogs, say the same blogs you're reading. They know
what's being said about them, they know what sort of
battles they're fighting with the other players, they know what
kind of vendettas certain players have against them, and they
(07:59):
want to go out and show I'm the biggest, baddest
on the block. So the competition level in this game
is gonna be better than any other All Star game
you could possibly want to see. This is gonna be
the most must see All Star game the next few years,
just because of this desire for both of those things,
the interest level in the players knowing that you're going
(08:20):
to get a game that you could see something crazy
you could see. Is there gonna be a fight? Is
Caitlyn Clark gonna play twenty four minutes to score twenty
four points hit eleven threes? Is Page Becker's gonna get
some kind of crazy dribble move that she's like that
he's starting to pat now during the season, like people
are gonna want to see that. The combination of the
desirability of the stars and the fact that you're gonna

get a game where they're all trying to kill each other,
that's gonna be the best All Star game.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Man. I don't think that. I don't think it's gonna
be close with this.
Speaker 4 (08:48):
In the other one, well, I don't know what the
Pro Bowl Game has become. But you know, hey, Benjamin,
I think we're just gonna play Madden and be done
with it. The NBA is interesting to a point in
the fourth quarter when everybody actually wants to play Major
League Baseball. Unfortunately, the advantage of the pitchers are great.

I mean American League Dominates. Take that even if they
can't win the Big One, they win the Midsummer Classic.
What is that eleven out of the last thirteen.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
So there.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
But when you get down to this, there's just so
many subplots, so many agendas, so many opportunities to make
a name, to make money. How do you not get
Sophie Cunningham into this game somehow?
Speaker 3 (09:31):
Right?

She showed up at the UFC event in Vegas. Yeah,
on Saturday for crying out loud, right, I mean as
a ring card girl for a minute. So break through
stars you always want to have them in. But there's
so much and so many subplots that you want to
see play out, and let's face it, it doesn't always

get to happen on the court. You use the Avengers.
I say, this is like the Andre the Giant Memorial
Battle Royale.

Everybody's in the You have no idea?

Has Baron von Rashke used to say back in the Awa,
friend will turn on friend and foe here.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
You go, Hey, Baron's still with us in Minnesota. By
the way, Now, I'm glad.

I'm glad you bring up this fight in faux versus
faux stuff, right, because this is this is one thing, right,
and this is part of this conversation. Is something that
I really love, I really appreciate. Maybe it's a you know,
an appreciation moment, but I really love and I'm being
serious about this. I love how everyone who is suddenly
a w NBA expert over the course of the past

couple of years, people that didn't watch a game, that
couldn't even tell you a team or anything else. And
I'm not sitting here tell you that, you know, I'm like, oh,
but I've been watched this, No, no, But my point
is that everybody who is suddenly a w NBA expert
wants to fight to the death on social media, on television,
on the radio with each other over the treatment of

Caitlin Clark. Is Caitlin Clark one of the top guards
in the game. They want to they want to go
down like it's a battle to the death over what
they think about Caitlin Clark and the WNBA and what
players are doing to her. I mean, again, this is
so many people that have no idea, that never watched
a game until CAITLINN Clark gott in the league and
probably don't watch any games now, But they want to
(11:18):
fight about it. They want to fight, They want to
go all the way down that rabbit hole and they
want to say no, no, no, no no. I know,
my cooler head should prevail and I should back out
of this, but I want to say that Caitlin Clark's
not one of the top ten guards in the WNBA.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
I want to say that. I want to make sure e,
I'm gonna fight with you about it.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
And I look and I see this, and I go, Man,
the number of people that just don't care how stupid
they look.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
They can say I got clicks, but you look stupid.
I don't care.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
I got clicks, And I want to fight about a
sport I know nothing about, and I want to fight
with you about it, like, uh, this is It's really impressive.
And I love that people want to go to these
lengths when they know nothing about this, that I'm gonna
really take this into the theater of the absurd. This
is really something, Mike, Well.

That's what we talk about all the time, right, Hot
take nonsense always be waere hot take nonsense and you
could usually smell it. It's like a storm coming or
you know a dump truck that you know it's gonna
stink and it's gonna get out of control fast.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
And we watched this.
Speaker 4 (12:17):
I mean, look at the last couple of weeks, it's
just been an absolute that's been disgraceful with some of
these conversations about where she ranks as a guard and
things of that nature.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
It's like, okay, this again goes back to, oh, you
can find some analytics.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
You could say you don't like her style, like today
she was yelling at the referee and you could see
her leg bruising as she was making her case.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
But all of that just.
Speaker 4 (12:49):
Where there's it's it's like any industry, right, if there's
the width that there might be a little bit of
money into it, right. I talk openly about the trading
guard memorabilia business and right now booming, which means there's
a lot more scammers creeping in as well, and a
lot more folks trying to figure out what the next
play on the con is. All right, of the I
didn't get the card in the mail even though it
(13:11):
says attracted my mailbox and there's a picture of it
being put in my mailbox. Like all of these things,
fake cards, whatever else. I mean, there's a million different
grifts that are going on, and that goes to any
other business. All of you out there, whatever you do,
you're figuring out where where there's some advantage to be had.
And it's the same thing here in the media. It's like, well,
(13:34):
I don't really know, but if I say this and
I say something terrible about her game, people are gonna respond.
And you go with that grift until it's the next season,
because right now, for a lot of people, it's a
very difficult time between the NBA Finals and the first
weekend of the NFL season.

No, there is.

It is that times, a lot of vacation, there's a
lot of lists, and there's a lot of hot take nonsense.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
Again, you know again, and I always default to this,
and I quote this all the time.

Uh. One of the best lines from thirty Rock was
when Tracy Morgan goes on Larry King Live to talk
about the Girly Show and some kind of entertaining I
forget what the plot was, but he goes on to
talk about entertainment, you know, and Tracy and and Tracy
Morgan plays an actor on a late night TV. If
you haven't watched thirty Rock, he's he's an actor. And
a comedian on a late night variety show, and right
(14:28):
in the middle of the interview that Larry King says,
and I'm sorry, Tracy, but we have to change courses
right now because England has just bombed whatever you know,
Lengland is just bombed China and we need to we
need to we need to talk about this. Do you
want to stay with us? And Tracy Morgan says, I'm
glad you asked, Larry, because I don't know anything about this,
but I have some strong opinions.
Speaker 4 (14:50):
I mean, that summarizes it perfectly. All Wait, what's the
name of the other person that we're supposed to be
talking about.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
I don't know. It's Clark, And who's the other one?
Speaker 1 (14:59):
I mean, I don't know anything about this, but I
have some strong opinions like that the number of people
in the media that that could count for that that
could be like what's on their tombstone, like there is
in the hundreds in the heart of people you.

Read about every day.

Yeah, I don't know anything, but I have strong opinions
about I'll tell you what though.

On the uh, just on that thought, they've banked enough
to make some really nice tobestones.

Off of their hot take concepts. Yeah, but everybody's got
to look in the mirror at the end.

And you got you know that, and and I hope
that you can. Right, That's your goal each and every night.

If you if you can look in the mirror when
you put out content and you're in and you're one
of those people that and you can you can still
smile and and say hey, God bless you. Man, if
you if you see if you can still do that.
But you know, in the end, you got to look
and go, boy, did did I just skate my way through?

Because I was successful at it and I got paid okay,
and I was able to get clicks. I mean, really,
you gotta you gotta be proud of what you do. Man,
you gotta have some kind of standard. Well, or at
the end of some kind of standard.

You give up the idea that you're a journalist, than
just declare yourself an actor and be done with it.

friend Mike Harmon, where today we watched England give away
a win to Argentina, mainly because of their coaching decisions.
And there's two big points in this conversation, because I
think we have an epidemic that's going on now in
the country, going back to the beginning of the year.
(17:59):
But first let's deal with the micro point before you
get to the macro point. So England loses to Argentina today.
We've talked about this from a bunch of different angles
and when the head coach, when when Thomas Tuckle decided
I'm going to start subbing out our players to go
with a more defensive lineup. You know, look, you're taking
(18:22):
out the goal scorer. Okay, fine, then you're swapping out
Reece James, You're swapping out Declan Rice. And when you
make these changes, England had just twelve percent possession the
rest of the game. Once England decided we're going to
try to sit on this game and win one nothing,
(18:42):
you knew that was playing into Argentina's hands. Because you
just want to go back to the Egypt game where
it's like, wow, they were down two nothing in the
eightieth minute and they didn't even go to overtime. They
scored three goals in the next twelve minutes. Why Because
Egypt decided we're gonna go defensive and we're going to
allow you to put pressure on it. And Argentina's pressure
(19:02):
is relentless, relentless. They decided we are okay absorbing pressure,
We're gonna put eleven guys back, We're gonna win this game.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
Won nothing.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
Not many people who even watched a second of the
World Cup, but look at that and go, yeah, that's
a great idea, that's a great strategy. But we've criticized
the strategy. We told you that was the point where
England got it wrong. Now to go back to make
the first Macro point about this is that Tuckle wants
to stay on as England's coach, and Harry Kane after
(19:32):
the game, captain very Upset said, once he went up
one nothing. We seem to try and just hold on,
which at this level is just not enough. Right Harry Kane,
who also didn't play well the last couple of games,
putting this out there, but he's still England's captain. You
go back to the win over Norway when they won
two to one, when Tuckle had no problem saying how

sloppy England was, how they were lucky, they needed to
play better, and it was like whoa, whoa, whoa, this
is the World Cup?
Speaker 3 (19:58):
What are you doing?
Speaker 1 (19:59):
And you telling who played great he was England's best
player for the entire tournament, said yeah, I don't know
about that. We won, were moving on.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
It's okay.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
There was a lot was made of, you know, Bellingham
and Tuckle's relationship and they had to clear the air
on it, but that's not the point. The point of
it is that Tuckle decided after a win to really
grind down on his players and say, yeah, this was
something that you needed to do better on.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
Well, you got really mad about the question about mentality. Yeah,
but I'm like, okay, you know what, Look, I get it.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
You know the team. If you don't feel the team
played well but they won, you're trying to find a
way to motivate them into the semi finals because the
games just going to get more difficult from you are out.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
So I get that.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
I get okay, I understand that. But now today, following
the game in which you can directly look at the
change of England's fortunes to when he decided to make
his substitutions, Tuckle was asked after the game, did you
get any of your decisions wrong? And he says, quote, no,
I believe that's just the nature of the game. I
(20:57):
thought this was one of our best games. Dude, you
gotta pick a lane.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
Man.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
It's hard to have respect for a coach who after
a win rips his players and says, we gotta, we gotta,
you gotta give more of an effort. You guys were
sloppy and after a game in which his tactics are questioned,
did you know that's the number one thing he won't
take any responsibility for it. Did you get your decisions wrong?
Speaker 3 (21:17):
No?
Speaker 1 (21:18):
As soon as you lose, you get criticized. No one
knows what would have happened if we made different decisions. Yeah,
but uh, Jason Smith, Fox Sports Radio, you made these
decisions and you lost, so I can tell you these
were not the right decisions. Your players are not happy
about them. You make you got it as a coach.
Just own it, man, that's what players want to see
when stuff like this happens. You protect them, own it.
(21:39):
But you want to go down the line of hey,
we were sloppy and it and we won, but yeah,
but they didn't play well. But now they lose and
suddenly oh no, no, no, I didn't do anything here.
I'm not questioning my decisions. That's just the way the
game went. Wow, dude, I mean this guy wants to
stay on as the coach. I don't know if you
can stay on after this, Like, you know, you got
to give some kind of responsibility, some kind of culpability
(22:00):
to go, hey, you know what I made. This decision
ends with me. It's not about you, it's about the players.
And you don't even take responsibility for that.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
Man.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
I see that, and I go, I got no use
for a guy like this as my coach if you
can't even say if you want to go out of
your way to criticize a team after win, but after
a loss where it's on you and you go yeah, no, no,
I didn't lose this game. Oh okay, so the players
lost the game. They didn't win that game, but they.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
Lost this one. Got it, got it way, we didn't
lose the game, they won it. What a great day.
Speaker 4 (22:32):
I liked him bristling at the mentality question and talking
about things that needed to be cleaned up. Motivational and
we saw the look they've got a bunch of discord.
I don't think there's any doubt. And it wasn't just
the animus between England and Argentina on display. I think
I think there's some fractures there. I think he might
(22:54):
might have some guys that don't quite get along, because,
let's face it, towards the end of the game they
got They got shippy throughout the game in terms of fighting,
but the Jude Bellingham thing at the end, he became unhinged. Yeah,
you guys are celebrating. He goes over, starts pushing guys around.
Slash looks like, yeah.

It looks like somebody said, so I have no doubt
they did right, And that's.

What it was like.

He just walked over and started hitting people like it
was a WWE battle Royal.

Not saying that, but it was enough to where instead
of just being like, all right, you're a jerky one whatever,
that he felt enough that he had to go do something.
So curious what comes out in the wash there, But yeah,
the coach clearly is an interesting character, and we watched
it all all tournament long, with some of his his commentary,
(23:43):
some of the interviews in postmatch quotes that he's had,
and certainly last round was the one that they got
a bunch of eyebrows raised, like, succeed and proceed. It's
doesn't always have to be pretty, but you had a
couple of decisions and a couple of players that truly
let you down last time out. This time it's on you.
(24:05):
But it's a lot easier to deflect, right everybody in
their own lives. I mean, did you eat that final cookie?
Speaker 3 (24:10):
Not? I mean, you know it was just one cookie?
Speaker 4 (24:14):
Hey, what the hell we I mean, you weren't going
to make a meal out of it anyway, So did
you eat the cookie?

Let's just get down to brass taxes, as Becky Hammond
would say that we we get to this point in
a tournament where you try to find your excuses, and
that seems to be the way it goes. Nobody's gonna
accept blame. No, no, no, no, that you guys can do that
in the media.

Here we're all good. Never let him see you sweat, Smith,
Never let him see you sweat.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
You know, and and the other part of it, it's
it's not just about this where you would like Tuckle
to be able to own his decision right thought to
be able to own that right you got to own
when you when you make a call and you lose. Oh,
not my fault, man, But like I feel like it's
an epidemic going back to the the Olympics in February
where when Canada lost to the United States and all
you heard was, well, the all start, the the overtime
(25:08):
format is bad. And you know, we had the best
player on the ice, Connor McDavid was the best player. No, sorry,
Connor Helibuk was the best player still on the ice.
Just he's goalie, doesn't mean he wasn't the best player, right,
But we're not taking any responsibility for this lot. We
were better than the United States for most of the game.
Then you get into the Eastern Conference Finals in the NBA,
where Kenny Atkinson gave his famous you know, looking at
(25:29):
it analytically, we should be up three to one most
of the game. We're doing we're doing better than the
NBA Finals, where Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson said, yeah,
you know, we're winning seventy percent of the games, so
you know, yeah, well we're doing really well. And then
you get to Sean Sweeney today, who you know, was
you know, now gets the gig, you know, gets the
head coaching gig in the NBA, but was the Spurs
(25:52):
assistant coach during the during the run of the NBA Finals.
Now he's the head coach of the Magic and he
goes on on a podcast today, goes on Rossolo's podcast,
and he says that, you know, yeah, what happened was, well,
a combination of bad luck and uh and and and
you know, we won for the first forty six minutes
of every game.
Speaker 3 (26:10):
Right.
Speaker 1 (26:10):
The bad luck was that, oh, we had a tough
run through the Western Conference to the finals and we
were kind of banged up, and the Knicks didn't have
as tough for a run. You know why the Knicks
didn't have his tough run because they won all their games. Business, right,
yeah for the Yeah, that's why I'm here now. Yeah,
I didn't see anybody that didn't that didn't play. I
(26:31):
didn't see anybody that was questionable. I didn't see anybody
on San Antonio was missing games. I didn't see any
of that in the finals.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
But does again, miss several games? What the hell were you?
Why here?
Speaker 1 (26:42):
Okay, being on the court and not playing well isn't
the same as missing.
Speaker 4 (26:47):
He might as well have been John Cena out there
because you didn't see him.
Speaker 3 (26:50):
I wouldn't say that anybody was missing him. Uh.

But for Sweeny to be the latest guy to say, yeah,
we won the first forty six minutes of every game, Like,
when did it become acceptable to say, yeah, we were
for a coach to say, yeah, we won the first
three quarters of the game and to shrug their shoulders
and say, I'm taking no responsibility for the rest of it, right,
Like for for Tuckle to say today, yeah I thought
it was our best game. No it wasn't, because you
(27:15):
lost and you played a good sixty five minutes. But
guess what Those last thirty minutes count a lot, man,
They count. You can say they even count more than
the first sixty five minutes, and I don't know when.
I don't know if it's just coaches there's a synapse
in their brain or they just they're gonna overload their
circuits and their brain's gonna overheat if they have to
take responsibility for something that's incredibly embarrassing that they should
(27:37):
be thinking about every day for the rest of their
professional lives. The Spurs blew a twenty nine point lead,
biggest lead in the NBA Finals ever, and it's like
they never thought they were in trouble that entire series
against the Knicks. They're still talking big when they're down
three to one, and I'm saying, Okay, I know they
don't believe it. They just don't want to address blowing
these leads because mentally they can't handle it. They weren't
(27:58):
strong enough mentally. And that's what tells me is that
you're not strong enough mentally as a coach, as a
player if you're saying things like I want to defend
that we played well for the first three quarters of
this game, and then all of a sudden that's become
acceptable and to see people run with that now as
a narrative, I go, do you really know what it
takes to win. I don't know that you know what
it takes to win. If you're gonna sit here and say, yeah,
(28:18):
first three quarters of the game, we were great, but
the last quarter you got out coached, your team got
out played. Yeah, I do't want to talk about that.
That doesn't matter, right, that doesn't matter. Like the Spurs,
if you ask them, hey, what happened this year, Well,
we beat the Thunder it was awesome.
Speaker 3 (28:31):
Seven games.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
What about the finals? Yeah, vaguely remember that we played
some basketball. I don't know how it turned out. I mean,
people tell me what happened. But yeah, ready for training
camp in a couple months, ready to go. Like this
has suddenly become a crutch that coaches are allowed to
fall back on to say, yeah, hey, bad luck first
forty six minutes. You are never going to win if
(28:52):
you can't face how you lost. You can't just crumple
stuff up and throw it away. You can't just sweep
up under the rug and say, yeah, you know, we
won't have to deal with that. Let's just come back
with a fresh outlook. No, because you haven't solved what
got you to that point. The Spurs blew a huge
lead in every single game. They have a double digit
leader for the first quarter of every game and they lost. Right,
(29:14):
England was up one, nothing, made bad decisions and they lost. No,
I'm not gonna own it one of our best games.
Speaker 3 (29:20):
Wow, man, Like I don't understand what goes with these coaches.
Speaker 4 (29:22):
Had Sometimes I love the fact that you're not giving
proper credit to the man who started it all.
Speaker 3 (29:29):
It's Doc Rivers. He's a man who making art forms.
Speaker 1 (29:35):
He is the godfather of doing enough for the first
three quarters of the game, end or series.
Speaker 4 (29:40):
But just it's proved positive as a coach that what
you outlined, what you and your team, your analytics guys,
your stats guys, what you put together, the matchup breakdowns,
you were on the money, and then your players just
didn't execute.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
It's a way of putting your players.
Speaker 4 (29:57):
Under the bus for not executing what you put out
without calling them out directly like dearon Fox or in
Doc River's case, it's.
Speaker 3 (30:06):
Not blake top Blake. Right.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
So like all of that to say that we've had
this around for a while, I mean it's a tried
and true experiment for coaches who also are trying to
what's that word phrase, keep their jobs, So that's part
of it as well. It's like, look, i mean, look
how effective we were early. Yeah, but you were terrible late.
But hey, seventy two percent of the time. Yeah, I mean,
(30:30):
look what we did. It's like today, right England, out
of the gate, go through the first half, you get
the one nil leads.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
Like, oh here we go. We got chaos, and then.
Speaker 4 (30:42):
You possessed the ball twelve percent of the time for
the final thirty seven and change.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
Tells you all you need to know.
Speaker 4 (30:50):
It's like, yeah, no, that the first fifty three was great,
and that extra three plus minutes at the end of
that first half, boy, we had them where we wanted them.
But that pesky thirty seven minutes when we went into
the defensive shell. No, no, no, no, no, the defense played
really well except for two shots. Okay, except for two shots.
And if you see here, Messi's offside. He spiked a guy,
(31:12):
the whole thing. And this is where you can out
blame the referees. That's what you do.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
It's not your fault, no of course, no, no, no, well
look we got the referee is a great conversation to
have tomorrow night. But referees, that's great, but like overall,
I want to say, dude, like like, really, what goes
through your head when you think about the NBA Finals
or when you think about this game?

And I know, maybe it's too early to process it,
like for.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
Tuckle's case, like Okay, it just happened, but for I
forgot Like Sean Sweeney, Dude, the Finals went over for
a month, man, and you still think you're not in trouble.
It was one thing for the Spurs that think we're
not in trouble down three to one, which was bad enough,
But now here's Sweeney a month going by.

Yeah, just bad. Wow, what are you gonna do?

Yeah, here's the thing with him, he doesn't have to
care anymore. So Aul's right with the world as far
as he's concerned.

Decided to rescind Josh Hart's invite. Yeah, yeah, I'll tell
you man. I mean that's.

These guys just love each other, man. I mean, I
mean we don't talk about again, That's the one thing
we don't talk about enough. We could talk about talent
and bringing guys in and making sure we get this
star at this shooting guard, at this three and D guy,
but you can't even come close to accounting for when
you have five or six guys just absolutely love each
other and love playing with each other. And that's the

nick starting five man like you. There's nobody with better
chemistry of that in the NBA, and we don't we
don't talk about that part of it enough.

go dubs. No, I'm gonna ask Steve Kerr a question.
And here's the audio that went out on social media
after these people just pulled up alongside Steve Kerr who
was driving his car, and decided to ask him a question. Yeah,
and when you get Lebron man, Okay, let's get put

Oh we got Lebron you No, no, we got it.

totally beginning it's gonna be the Cavaliers. But the Warriors
have to have something big in the next month or so.

They have to Steve Kerr.

Look when you saw at the end of the season
big hugs did Draymond Green and Steph Curry. Oh, he's
saying goodbye. Steve Kurrs done. He knows they're not winning.
He's not gonna show up and just get his butt
kicked every single night, which is what it's been the
last few years for the for the Warriors because they're
they're lucky if they're a team that gets in the plane.
At this point, they're not even close to competing. Steve
Kurr injury issues is back. Is he going to really
(36:02):
show up and just get his butt kicked? Continue to
have that happen in Golden State because they're not close
to the top. But he decides to come back. So
I have to still think I said it at the time,
and I still thinking now the Warriors have something big
that they're going to do sometime in the next month
that's gonna be a big influx of talent that's gonna
(36:23):
help them get back to the top of the Western
Conference because they don't want to sit here and just
give away the end of stea of Steph Curry's career.
Him and Steve Kerr don't want to just at the
end of their playing days. Go yeah, we're really happy
we finished with the same organization. But go, man, we
gave away eight years playing for a team, eight years
of your thirties and my fifties where we couldn't We
knew we couldn't win, but we were just wanted to
(36:44):
stay in Golden State because it was just this was
our home. Like, you're gonna want to compete. And I
can't believe that Steve Kerr came back just to put
out basically the same team again and think, oh, maybe
a healthy porzingis No. I gotta think the Warriors have
something big going on. Draymond Green opped it out of
deal for something. Maybe they have to wait for Lebron
to figure things out, and where Lebron goes, they're gonna
(37:04):
wind up getting a couple of players. But the free
agency period was too quiet for trades. They were too quiet.
There's a lot of talent out there that looks for
a new home, that's overpaid or a team that doesn't
want to pay somebody's salary. I gotta feeling the Warriors
are going to do something big in the next month.
Whether it might be Lebron, I'm not saying I know
anything you know about but it could be Lebron, it
(37:25):
could be somebody else, But I did they have to
have something big coming up.
Speaker 5 (37:28):
Yeah.

I think it just comes down to for Steve Kerr,
is it just he's riding it into the sunset and
decided he wasn't going to abandon Steph Curry in his
final year. Yeah, you deal with Draymond on your own.
Draymond opted out, of course, to create some chaos and
speculation about his whereabouts or whether he's bringing his buddy
Lebron in. But you got your your guy porzingis I mean,
(37:51):
we still have the two songs in the system that
we can unload at anytime. You drafted Lendenburg and you've
got some young talent that really hasn't panned out quite
so well for Steve Curry these last couple of years.
The last guy to add was really talented, he got
punched in the face and then they had to get
rid of him. So we'll see if this one's any better.
But the fact that he's joking around on social media
(38:11):
means either they've got something cooking or he's truly abdicated
responsibility and he's just having a good time.

Oh no, that that'd be great.

Yeah, the Lebron thin clearly might be him just having
fun with us.

behind all those teams.

a pretty cool thing. As GMS drafted the All Stars,
Teresa Weatherspoon, Cynthia Cooper picked the teams. Pretty awesome, right,
And the way it went was this, Paige Beckers was

the number one vote get her, so she automatically got
assigned to Cynthia Cooper's team the first pick. Then for
Teresa Weatherspoon, she took Caitlin Clark and then she took
Asia Wilson, it went back Brianna Stewart and back and forth,
and there's already some smack talk going on here ahead.
You know, it's you know, look, it's it's going to
be a fun event. But it's bigger than that. The

next few years, and I mean by basically, as long
as Caitlin Clark is in the WNBA, the WNBA is
gonna have the best all Star game of any sport,
of any sport, Baseball, whatever the hell they wind up
doing with the Pro.

Bowl, Pro Bowl games, man, come on.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Hockey, whatever it is, like once in a while, Hey,
we're gonna run USA versus the world. Okay, yeah, that's great,
but uh, I mean, you're stunt casting for the All
Star Games, right, You're stunt casting for it. You can't
get past the fact that, well, the games in all
of those leagues are less than competitive. There's there's less
than I feel like, Hey, you gotta find a way
to motivate people actually get to the games and play, right,

that's been the big thing. But why will the WNBA
All Star Game be the best All Star game of
the next few years? Two reasons. Number One, we talk
about the NBA being a star studded league. The WNBA
is even a bigger star studded league, whether it's Clark
or Wilson, Aliah Boston, Kelsey Mitchell, Stuart Becker's, Angel Reese,

Marina Maybrey. Like, these are all the best players that
you hear about and you read about every single day
on social media. Whether you see, hey, this is what
they did in a game last night. Here's the outfit
that so and so wartered were game before she dropped
twenty five and eleven, right, whatever it is. These are
the biggest stars, and the WNBA has big stars. They
are big stars that people read about and read about,
(05:45):
people fighting about every single.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
Day every day.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
It's a Caitlin Clark drama, it's an Angel Reese drama,
it's a Sophie Cunningham drama, whatever it is. And you're
getting all of these players together for one game for
one weekend. Right, this is this is something that the
average sports fan wants to see. Hey, I'm getting all
it's like, it's kind of like the first time you
saw I saw the Avengers get together. I still remember
(06:11):
seeing the trailer for the Avengers. After you had Iron
Man movies and four movies. All right, that's great, And
the first Avengers trailer and they're all back to back
in New York and I said, oh my god, this
is amazing. This is a comic book come to life.
Seeing them all in one movie like that was absolutely
mind blowing. And the success of the MCU, I don't
think people take that much of it into account. That's
(06:32):
seeing that was so groundbreaking that we went along with
that journey as long as they wanted to go with it.
Right now, you're getting all of these players in one place.
Was it all These players have been around for a while. Yeah,
but with Caitlin Clark coming into the league, now there's
fights physically, there's fights in social media, there's disagreements. Do
the players like each other? Do they not like each other?
(06:53):
Do they like Caitlyn Clark? Do they not like Caitlyn Clark?
Do they like Angel Rees? Do they can't stand Angel Rees?
Is there rivalry between these players? Do Page Beckers and
Caitlin Clark really respect each other's games? Do they get along?
These are all things that we want to see. I
want to see Paige Beckers matched up against Caitlin Clark.
I want I want to see Kaitlyn Clark against Kelsey Mitchell.
All right, I want to see star. I want to
(07:14):
see Angel Reese against Caitlin Clark in some sort of situation. Right, Like,
Kitlyn Clark again is the big common denominator of this
because you can argue whether or not she's the best
player in the league. You can't argue she's the biggest star.
So all of this is stuff that people want to see.
This is still new to us. It's new. We really hey,
I want to see what this looks like, you know,
over the course of next weekend. But the other thing
(07:36):
is this, and this is what the other sports cannot replace.
They cannot replace the fact that all of them want
to ball out against everybody else because they read the
same blogs, say the same blogs you're reading. They know
what's being said about them, they know what sort of
battles they're fighting with the other players, they know what
kind of vendettas certain players have against them, and they

want to go out and show I'm the biggest, baddest
on the block. So the competition level in this game
is gonna be better than any other All Star game
you could possibly want to see. This is gonna be
the most must see All Star game the next few years,
just because of this desire for both of those things,
the interest level in the players knowing that you're going

to get a game that you could see something crazy
you could see. Is there gonna be a fight? Is
Caitlyn Clark gonna play twenty four minutes to score twenty
four points hit eleven threes? Is Page Becker's gonna get
some kind of crazy dribble move that she's like that
he's starting to pat now during the season, like people
are gonna want to see that. The combination of the
desirability of the stars and the fact that you're gonna

get a game where they're all trying to kill each other,
that's gonna be the best All Star game.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Man. I don't think that. I don't think it's gonna
be close with this.
Speaker 4 (08:48):
In the other one, well, I don't know what the
Pro Bowl Game has become. But you know, hey, Benjamin,
I think we're just gonna play Madden and be done
with it. The NBA is interesting to a point in
the fourth quarter when everybody actually wants to play Major
League Baseball. Unfortunately, the advantage of the pitchers are great.

I mean American League Dominates. Take that even if they
can't win the Big One, they win the Midsummer Classic.
What is that eleven out of the last thirteen.

But when you get down to this, there's just so
many subplots, so many agendas, so many opportunities to make
a name, to make money. How do you not get
Sophie Cunningham into this game somehow?

on Saturday for crying out loud, right, I mean as
a ring card girl for a minute. So break through
stars you always want to have them in. But there's

get to happen on the court. You use the Avengers.
I say, this is like the Andre the Giant Memorial
Battle Royale.

and this is part of this conversation. Is something that
I really love, I really appreciate. Maybe it's a you know,
an appreciation moment, but I really love and I'm being
serious about this. I love how everyone who is suddenly
a w NBA expert over the course of the past

couple of years, people that didn't watch a game, that
couldn't even tell you a team or anything else. And
I'm not sitting here tell you that, you know, I'm like, oh,
but I've been watched this, No, no, But my point
is that everybody who is suddenly a w NBA expert
wants to fight to the death on social media, on television,
on the radio with each other over the treatment of

Caitlin Clark. Is Caitlin Clark one of the top guards
in the game. They want to they want to go
down like it's a battle to the death over what
they think about Caitlin Clark and the WNBA and what
players are doing to her. I mean, again, this is
so many people that have no idea, that never watched
a game until CAITLINN Clark gott in the league and
probably don't watch any games now, But they want to

fight about it. They want to fight, They want to
go all the way down that rabbit hole and they
want to say no, no, no, no no. I know,
my cooler head should prevail and I should back out
of this, but I want to say that Caitlin Clark's
not one of the top ten guards in the WNBA.

I want to say that. I want to make sure e,
I'm gonna fight with you about it.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
And I look and I see this, and I go, Man,
the number of people that just don't care how stupid
they look.

sport I know nothing about, and I want to fight
with you about it, like, uh, this is It's really impressive.
And I love that people want to go to these
lengths when they know nothing about this, that I'm gonna

That's what we talk about all the time, right, Hot
take nonsense always be waere hot take nonsense and you
could usually smell it. It's like a storm coming or
you know a dump truck that you know it's gonna
stink and it's gonna get out of control fast.

And we watched this.

I mean, look at the last couple of weeks, it's
just been an absolute that's been disgraceful with some of
these conversations about where she ranks as a guard and
things of that nature.

It's like, okay, this again goes back to, oh, you
can find some analytics.

You could say you don't like her style, like today
she was yelling at the referee and you could see
her leg bruising as she was making her case.

But all of that just.

Where there's it's it's like any industry, right, if there's
the width that there might be a little bit of
money into it, right. I talk openly about the trading
guard memorabilia business and right now booming, which means there's
a lot more scammers creeping in as well, and a
lot more folks trying to figure out what the next
play on the con is. All right, of the I
didn't get the card in the mail even though it

says attracted my mailbox and there's a picture of it
being put in my mailbox. Like all of these things,
fake cards, whatever else. I mean, there's a million different
grifts that are going on, and that goes to any
other business. All of you out there, whatever you do,
you're figuring out where where there's some advantage to be had.
And it's the same thing here in the media. It's like, well,

I don't really know, but if I say this and
I say something terrible about her game, people are gonna respond.
And you go with that grift until it's the next season,
because right now, for a lot of people, it's a
very difficult time between the NBA Finals and the first
weekend of the NFL season.

It is that times, a lot of vacation, there's a
lot of lists, and there's a lot of hot take nonsense.

Again, you know again, and I always default to this,
and I quote this all the time.

Uh. One of the best lines from thirty Rock was
when Tracy Morgan goes on Larry King Live to talk
about the Girly Show and some kind of entertaining I
forget what the plot was, but he goes on to
talk about entertainment, you know, and Tracy and and Tracy
Morgan plays an actor on a late night TV. If
you haven't watched thirty Rock, he's he's an actor. And
a comedian on a late night variety show, and right

in the middle of the interview that Larry King says,
and I'm sorry, Tracy, but we have to change courses
right now because England has just bombed whatever you know,
Lengland is just bombed China and we need to we
need to we need to talk about this. Do you
want to stay with us? And Tracy Morgan says, I'm
glad you asked, Larry, because I don't know anything about this,
but I have some strong opinions.

I mean, that summarizes it perfectly. All Wait, what's the
name of the other person that we're supposed to be
talking about.

friend Mike Harmon, where today we watched England give away
a win to Argentina, mainly because of their coaching decisions.
And there's two big points in this conversation, because I
think we have an epidemic that's going on now in
the country, going back to the beginning of the year.
(17:59):
But first let's deal with the micro point before you
get to the macro point. So England loses to Argentina today.
We've talked about this from a bunch of different angles
and when the head coach, when when Thomas Tuckle decided
I'm going to start subbing out our players to go
with a more defensive lineup. You know, look, you're taking
(18:22):
out the goal scorer. Okay, fine, then you're swapping out
Reece James, You're swapping out Declan Rice. And when you
make these changes, England had just twelve percent possession the
rest of the game. Once England decided we're going to
try to sit on this game and win one nothing,
(18:42):
you knew that was playing into Argentina's hands. Because you
just want to go back to the Egypt game where
it's like, wow, they were down two nothing in the
eightieth minute and they didn't even go to overtime. They
scored three goals in the next twelve minutes. Why Because
Egypt decided we're gonna go defensive and we're going to
allow you to put pressure on it. And Argentina's pressure
(19:02):
is relentless, relentless. They decided we are okay absorbing pressure,
We're gonna put eleven guys back, We're gonna win this game.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
Won nothing.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
Not many people who even watched a second of the
World Cup, but look at that and go, yeah, that's
a great idea, that's a great strategy. But we've criticized
the strategy. We told you that was the point where
England got it wrong. Now to go back to make
the first Macro point about this is that Tuckle wants
to stay on as England's coach, and Harry Kane after
(19:32):
the game, captain very Upset said, once he went up
one nothing. We seem to try and just hold on,
which at this level is just not enough. Right Harry Kane,
who also didn't play well the last couple of games,
putting this out there, but he's still England's captain. You
go back to the win over Norway when they won
two to one, when Tuckle had no problem saying how
(19:52):
sloppy England was, how they were lucky, they needed to
play better, and it was like whoa, whoa, whoa, this
is the World Cup?
Speaker 3 (19:58):
What are you doing?
Speaker 1 (19:59):
And you telling who played great he was England's best
player for the entire tournament, said yeah, I don't know
about that. We won, were moving on.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
It's okay.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
There was a lot was made of, you know, Bellingham
and Tuckle's relationship and they had to clear the air
on it, but that's not the point. The point of
it is that Tuckle decided after a win to really
grind down on his players and say, yeah, this was
something that you needed to do better on.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
Well, you got really mad about the question about mentality. Yeah,
but I'm like, okay, you know what, Look, I get it.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
You know the team. If you don't feel the team
played well but they won, you're trying to find a
way to motivate them into the semi finals because the
games just going to get more difficult from you are out.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
So I get that.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
I get okay, I understand that. But now today, following
the game in which you can directly look at the
change of England's fortunes to when he decided to make
his substitutions, Tuckle was asked after the game, did you
get any of your decisions wrong? And he says, quote, no,
I believe that's just the nature of the game. I
(20:57):
thought this was one of our best games. Dude, you
gotta pick a lane.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
Man.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
It's hard to have respect for a coach who after
a win rips his players and says, we gotta, we gotta,
you gotta give more of an effort. You guys were
sloppy and after a game in which his tactics are questioned,
did you know that's the number one thing he won't
take any responsibility for it. Did you get your decisions wrong?
Speaker 3 (21:17):
No?
Speaker 1 (21:18):
As soon as you lose, you get criticized. No one
knows what would have happened if we made different decisions. Yeah,
but uh, Jason Smith, Fox Sports Radio, you made these
decisions and you lost, so I can tell you these
were not the right decisions. Your players are not happy
about them. You make you got it as a coach.
Just own it, man, that's what players want to see
when stuff like this happens. You protect them, own it.
(21:39):
But you want to go down the line of hey,
we were sloppy and it and we won, but yeah,
but they didn't play well. But now they lose and
suddenly oh no, no, no, I didn't do anything here.
I'm not questioning my decisions. That's just the way the
game went. Wow, dude, I mean this guy wants to
stay on as the coach. I don't know if you
can stay on after this, Like, you know, you got
to give some kind of responsibility, some kind of culpability
(22:00):
to go, hey, you know what I made. This decision
ends with me. It's not about you, it's about the players.
And you don't even take responsibility for that.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
Man.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
I see that, and I go, I got no use
for a guy like this as my coach if you
can't even say if you want to go out of
your way to criticize a team after win, but after
a loss where it's on you and you go yeah, no, no,
I didn't lose this game. Oh okay, so the players
lost the game. They didn't win that game, but they.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
Lost this one. Got it, got it way, we didn't
lose the game, they won it. What a great day.
Speaker 4 (22:32):
I liked him bristling at the mentality question and talking
about things that needed to be cleaned up. Motivational and
we saw the look they've got a bunch of discord.
I don't think there's any doubt. And it wasn't just
the animus between England and Argentina on display. I think
I think there's some fractures there. I think he might
(22:54):
might have some guys that don't quite get along, because,
let's face it, towards the end of the game they
got They got shippy throughout the game in terms of fighting,
but the Jude Bellingham thing at the end, he became unhinged. Yeah,
you guys are celebrating. He goes over, starts pushing guys around.
Slash looks like, yeah.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
It looks like somebody said, so I have no doubt
they did right, And that's.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
What it was like.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
He just walked over and started hitting people like it
was a WWE battle Royal.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
I'm just outswinging you know I'm.
Speaker 4 (23:22):
Not saying that, but it was enough to where instead
of just being like, all right, you're a jerky one whatever,
that he felt enough that he had to go do something.
So curious what comes out in the wash there, But yeah,
the coach clearly is an interesting character, and we watched
it all all tournament long, with some of his his commentary,
(23:43):
some of the interviews in postmatch quotes that he's had,
and certainly last round was the one that they got
a bunch of eyebrows raised, like, succeed and proceed. It's
doesn't always have to be pretty, but you had a
couple of decisions and a couple of players that truly
let you down last time out. This time it's on you.
(24:05):
But it's a lot easier to deflect, right everybody in
their own lives. I mean, did you eat that final cookie?
Speaker 3 (24:10):
Not? I mean, you know it was just one cookie?
Speaker 4 (24:14):
Hey, what the hell we I mean, you weren't going
to make a meal out of it anyway, So did
you eat the cookie?
Speaker 3 (24:18):
You 're not.
Speaker 4 (24:20):
Let's just get down to brass taxes, as Becky Hammond
would say that we we get to this point in
a tournament where you try to find your excuses, and
that seems to be the way it goes. Nobody's gonna
accept blame. No, no, no, no, that you guys can do that
in the media.
Speaker 3 (24:39):
Here we're all good. Never let him see you sweat, Smith,
Never let him see you sweat.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
You know, and and the other part of it, it's
it's not just about this where you would like Tuckle
to be able to own his decision right thought to
be able to own that right you got to own
when you when you make a call and you lose. Oh,
not my fault, man, But like I feel like it's
an epidemic going back to the the Olympics in February
where when Canada lost to the United States and all
you heard was, well, the all start, the the overtime
(25:08):
format is bad. And you know, we had the best
player on the ice, Connor McDavid was the best player. No, sorry,
Connor Helibuk was the best player still on the ice.
Just he's goalie, doesn't mean he wasn't the best player, right,
But we're not taking any responsibility for this lot. We
were better than the United States for most of the game.
Then you get into the Eastern Conference Finals in the NBA,
where Kenny Atkinson gave his famous you know, looking at
(25:29):
it analytically, we should be up three to one most
of the game. We're doing we're doing better than the
NBA Finals, where Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson said, yeah,
you know, we're winning seventy percent of the games, so
you know, yeah, well we're doing really well. And then
you get to Sean Sweeney today, who you know, was
you know, now gets the gig, you know, gets the
head coaching gig in the NBA, but was the Spurs
(25:52):
assistant coach during the during the run of the NBA Finals.
Now he's the head coach of the Magic and he
goes on on a podcast today, goes on Rossolo's podcast,
and he says that, you know, yeah, what happened was, well,
a combination of bad luck and uh and and and
you know, we won for the first forty six minutes
of every game.
Speaker 3 (26:10):
Right.
Speaker 1 (26:10):
The bad luck was that, oh, we had a tough
run through the Western Conference to the finals and we
were kind of banged up, and the Knicks didn't have
as tough for a run. You know why the Knicks
didn't have his tough run because they won all their games. Business, right,
yeah for the Yeah, that's why I'm here now. Yeah,
I didn't see anybody that didn't that didn't play. I
(26:31):
didn't see anybody that was questionable. I didn't see anybody
on San Antonio was missing games. I didn't see any
of that in the finals.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
But does again, miss several games? What the hell were you?
Why here?
Speaker 1 (26:42):
Okay, being on the court and not playing well isn't
the same as missing.
Speaker 4 (26:47):
He might as well have been John Cena out there
because you didn't see him.
Speaker 3 (26:50):
I wouldn't say that anybody was missing him. Uh.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
But for Sweeny to be the latest guy to say, yeah,
we won the first forty six minutes of every game, Like,
when did it become acceptable to say, yeah, we were
for a coach to say, yeah, we won the first
three quarters of the game and to shrug their shoulders
and say, I'm taking no responsibility for the rest of it, right,
Like for for Tuckle to say today, yeah I thought
it was our best game. No it wasn't, because you
(27:15):
lost and you played a good sixty five minutes. But
guess what Those last thirty minutes count a lot, man,
They count. You can say they even count more than
the first sixty five minutes, and I don't know when.
I don't know if it's just coaches there's a synapse
in their brain or they just they're gonna overload their
circuits and their brain's gonna overheat if they have to
take responsibility for something that's incredibly embarrassing that they should
(27:37):
be thinking about every day for the rest of their
professional lives. The Spurs blew a twenty nine point lead,
biggest lead in the NBA Finals ever, and it's like
they never thought they were in trouble that entire series
against the Knicks. They're still talking big when they're down
three to one, and I'm saying, Okay, I know they
don't believe it. They just don't want to address blowing
these leads because mentally they can't handle it. They weren't
(27:58):
strong enough mentally. And that's what tells me is that
you're not strong enough mentally as a coach, as a
player if you're saying things like I want to defend
that we played well for the first three quarters of
this game, and then all of a sudden that's become
acceptable and to see people run with that now as
a narrative, I go, do you really know what it
takes to win. I don't know that you know what
it takes to win. If you're gonna sit here and say, yeah,
(28:18):
first three quarters of the game, we were great, but
the last quarter you got out coached, your team got
out played. Yeah, I do't want to talk about that.
That doesn't matter, right, that doesn't matter. Like the Spurs,
if you ask them, hey, what happened this year, Well,
we beat the Thunder it was awesome.
Speaker 3 (28:31):
Seven games.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
What about the finals? Yeah, vaguely remember that we played
some basketball. I don't know how it turned out. I mean,
people tell me what happened. But yeah, ready for training
camp in a couple months, ready to go. Like this
has suddenly become a crutch that coaches are allowed to
fall back on to say, yeah, hey, bad luck first
forty six minutes. You are never going to win if
(28:52):
you can't face how you lost. You can't just crumple
stuff up and throw it away. You can't just sweep
up under the rug and say, yeah, you know, we
won't have to deal with that. Let's just come back
with a fresh outlook. No, because you haven't solved what
got you to that point. The Spurs blew a huge
lead in every single game. They have a double digit
leader for the first quarter of every game and they lost. Right,
(29:14):
England was up one, nothing, made bad decisions and they lost. No,
I'm not gonna own it one of our best games.
Speaker 3 (29:20):
Wow, man, Like I don't understand what goes with these coaches.
Speaker 4 (29:22):
Had Sometimes I love the fact that you're not giving
proper credit to the man who started it all.
Speaker 3 (29:29):
It's Doc Rivers. He's a man who making art forms.
Speaker 1 (29:35):
He is the godfather of doing enough for the first
three quarters of the game, end or series.
Speaker 4 (29:40):
But just it's proved positive as a coach that what
you outlined, what you and your team, your analytics guys,
your stats guys, what you put together, the matchup breakdowns,
you were on the money, and then your players just
didn't execute.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
It's a way of putting your players.
Speaker 4 (29:57):
Under the bus for not executing what you put out
without calling them out directly like dearon Fox or in
Doc River's case, it's.
Speaker 3 (30:06):
Not blake top Blake. Right.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
So like all of that to say that we've had
this around for a while, I mean it's a tried
and true experiment for coaches who also are trying to
what's that word phrase, keep their jobs, So that's part
of it as well. It's like, look, i mean, look
how effective we were early. Yeah, but you were terrible late.
But hey, seventy two percent of the time. Yeah, I mean,
(30:30):
look what we did. It's like today, right England, out
of the gate, go through the first half, you get
the one nil leads.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
Like, oh here we go. We got chaos, and then.
Speaker 4 (30:42):
You possessed the ball twelve percent of the time for
the final thirty seven and change.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
Tells you all you need to know.
Speaker 4 (30:50):
It's like, yeah, no, that the first fifty three was great,
and that extra three plus minutes at the end of
that first half, boy, we had them where we wanted them.
But that pesky thirty seven minutes when we went into
the defensive shell. No, no, no, no, no, the defense played
really well except for two shots. Okay, except for two shots.
And if you see here, Messi's offside. He spiked a guy,
(31:12):
the whole thing. And this is where you can out
blame the referees. That's what you do.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
It's not your fault, no of course, no, no, no, well
look we got the referee is a great conversation to
have tomorrow night. But referees, that's great, but like overall,
I want to say, dude, like like, really, what goes
through your head when you think about the NBA Finals
or when you think about this game?
Speaker 3 (31:32):
And I know, maybe it's too early to process it,
like for.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
Tuckle's case, like Okay, it just happened, but for I
forgot Like Sean Sweeney, Dude, the Finals went over for
a month, man, and you still think you're not in trouble.
It was one thing for the Spurs that think we're

you guys can win best team at the SP's and

Did this, we did this with this years. You know,
I feel like, analytically we should win this one. Nicely done.
Speaker 4 (32:54):
I do also like he gave the shout out, and
he continued joking back and forth, saying and he was
happy that the SP's.
Speaker 3 (33:02):
Decided to rescind Josh Hart's invite. Yeah, yeah, I'll tell
you man. I mean that's.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
These guys just love each other, man. I mean, I
mean we don't talk about again, That's the one thing
we don't talk about enough. We could talk about talent
and bringing guys in and making sure we get this
star at this shooting guard, at this three and D guy,
but you can't even come close to accounting for when
you have five or six guys just absolutely love each
other and love playing with each other. And that's the

nick starting five man like you. There's nobody with better
chemistry of that in the NBA, and we don't we
don't talk about that part of it enough.

Now, speaking of the NBA, potentially these lucky fans maybe
unearthed a big breaking store in the NBA. This video
making the rounds again, great stuff on social media. Just
a couple of people driving down the road today pulled
up and found themselves next to Warriors head coach Steve
Kerr and in true hey, I'm not gonna let this

moment go by. I'm not gonna just yell hey go dubs, Yeah,
go dubs. No, I'm gonna ask Steve Kerr a question.
And here's the audio that went out on social media
after these people just pulled up alongside Steve Kerr who
was driving his car, and decided to ask him a question. Yeah,
and when you get Lebron man, Okay, let's get put

that on Twitter. We got him.

Okay, put that on Twitter.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
Oh we got Lebron you No, no, we got it.
I'm talking to him, right, now you want to talk. Yeah,
we got Lebron put it on Twitter, go ahead, go ahead,
and did that. I dig that about Steve krr having.

A good laugh, creating some chaos, creating some change in
the Calshi market as we saw a little bit of
Who's to Golden State once again. Still several percentage points
behind the Cleveland Cavaliers. But it's fine because you know
what opens tomorrow, The Odyssey and fanatic.

I'll tell you he's not gonna share with the with
with the Odyssey, He's not gonna.
Speaker 3 (35:05):
Do it well, but I mean he will even if
he's not, you know.
Speaker 4 (35:09):
Wearing armor or whatever, because he's gonna do that podcast
with Haliburton.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
Yeah, okay, one and then he does on Friday. Okay,
you know, all right now.

But here's something that gets even a little bit more
fun than that is that here's Steve Cursey. Yeah we
got Lebron. Okay, great, Yeah, I got Lebron. I don't
know if it's gonna be Lebron. And mean, look, I've
totally beginning it's gonna be the Cavaliers. But the Warriors
have to have something big in the next month or so.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
They have to Steve Kerr.
Speaker 1 (35:39):
Look when you saw at the end of the season
big hugs did Draymond Green and Steph Curry. Oh, he's
saying goodbye. Steve Kurrs done. He knows they're not winning.
He's not gonna show up and just get his butt
kicked every single night, which is what it's been the
last few years for the for the Warriors because they're
they're lucky if they're a team that gets in the plane.
At this point, they're not even close to competing. Steve
Kurr injury issues is back. Is he going to really
(36:02):
show up and just get his butt kicked? Continue to
have that happen in Golden State because they're not close
to the top. But he decides to come back. So
I have to still think I said it at the time,
and I still thinking now the Warriors have something big
that they're going to do sometime in the next month
that's gonna be a big influx of talent that's gonna
(36:23):
help them get back to the top of the Western
Conference because they don't want to sit here and just
give away the end of stea of Steph Curry's career.
Him and Steve Kerr don't want to just at the
end of their playing days. Go yeah, we're really happy
we finished with the same organization. But go, man, we
gave away eight years playing for a team, eight years
of your thirties and my fifties where we couldn't We
knew we couldn't win, but we were just wanted to
(36:44):
stay in Golden State because it was just this was
our home. Like, you're gonna want to compete. And I
can't believe that Steve Kerr came back just to put
out basically the same team again and think, oh, maybe
a healthy porzingis No. I gotta think the Warriors have
something big going on. Draymond Green opped it out of
deal for something. Maybe they have to wait for Lebron
to figure things out, and where Lebron goes, they're gonna
(37:04):
wind up getting a couple of players. But the free
agency period was too quiet for trades. They were too quiet.
There's a lot of talent out there that looks for
a new home, that's overpaid or a team that doesn't
want to pay somebody's salary. I gotta feeling the Warriors
are going to do something big in the next month.
Whether it might be Lebron, I'm not saying I know
anything you know about but it could be Lebron, it
(37:25):
could be somebody else, But I did they have to
have something big coming up.
Speaker 5 (37:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (37:28):
I think it just comes down to for Steve Kerr,
is it just he's riding it into the sunset and
decided he wasn't going to abandon Steph Curry in his
final year. Yeah, you deal with Draymond on your own.
Draymond opted out, of course, to create some chaos and
speculation about his whereabouts or whether he's bringing his buddy
Lebron in. But you got your your guy porzingis I mean,
(37:51):
we still have the two songs in the system that
we can unload at anytime. You drafted Lendenburg and you've
got some young talent that really hasn't panned out quite
so well for Steve Curry these last couple of years.
The last guy to add was really talented, he got
punched in the face and then they had to get
rid of him. So we'll see if this one's any better.
But the fact that he's joking around on social media
(38:11):
means either they've got something cooking or he's truly abdicated
responsibility and he's just having a good time.
Speaker 3 (38:18):
Oh no, that that'd be great.
Speaker 1 (38:21):
Yeah, the Lebron thin clearly might be him just having
fun with us.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
Now you having a laugh? Are you having a laugh?
You have a laugh? Like it may be him having
a laugh.

But I got to think whether it's or something else
is going to be coming in the next month, some
kind of trade before we get to training camp where
the Warriors are going to be able to say, Okay,
now we can go toe to toe with the Spurs
and the Thunder and the Nuggets and maybe the Lakers,
and you know, because right now they're like eight miles
behind all those teams.

You just wanted to get eight miles in.
