and I love doing this every single night. Now, Uh,
(01:12):
before we get into the big NFL story, an injury
that suddenly may affect this weekend's divisional playoff schedule. Uh.
I don't know if this is rock bottom for the Lakers,
but it's gotta be close. Not only did the Lakers
lose tonight to the Hornets, who came in twelve games
under five hundred, not only did they let LaMelo Ball
(01:33):
go for thirty he scored twenty seven in the second
in a half in a row.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
It seemed like it.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
Uh one thirty five, one seventeen is the final. The
Lakers never threatened in the second half. And while the
record still looks okay, remember this is a Lakers team
that looked great until Lebron came back and then then
we thought, okay, well they'll figure things out. No, no, again,
I don't know if this is rock but it's got
(02:01):
to be close. Every game you're watching, Luca have a
big game and the Lakers lose thirty nine tonight for Luca,
but they lose Lebron yet twenty nine, nine and six.
But this is a team that started out looking like
they were building themselves a certain way, and they were
building great without Lebron and not saying it's an addition
by substraction kind of thing with Lebron James. But if
(02:23):
you're looking to make a move to get your team better,
especially better defensively, right, like, how how close are they
or how close are they going to be to either
a big trade or a buyout? Now, I remember Austin
Reeves is hurt, So when Reeves comes back, that will
make things better for the Lakers. But you have to think,
did you really think they'd be this bad with Hey,
(02:44):
here Lebron comes back, and now it's Luca and Lebron, Like,
the Lakers have to be close to making something big happen.
And you know, I still think you can make a
trade with Lebron James, especially back to Cleveland, because in
the end, yeah, are you going to get something incredible
for him? But in the end, it's an expiring contract.
You know you're spending this money on Yeah, you're trading
(03:05):
some stuff away, but you think Lebron has enough in
the tank to help Cleveland in the Eastern Conference, maybe
the Path of Least Resistance or someplace else. But in
the end, yeah, you are acquiring an expiring deal. Right,
this is it Lebron's this is the this is the
last year for Lebron's contract, right, So you could do it,
but you could also buy him out, and that might
be something the Lakers are looking into. And Mark Walter's
(03:26):
throwing money around like crazy with the Dodgers, so I
got to think you can move some cash around and say, yeah,
we could buy Lebron out. But something bold has to
happen for the Lakers. And they were building the team
a certain way without Lebron, because you know they're building
a certain way behind Luca and Austin Reeves for after
this season. But now you're throwing the Rich Paul. Hey,
maybe Austin Reeves getting traded a thing, and Lebron doesn't
(03:47):
really distance himself from it. Something bold has to happen
for the Lakers, and whether it's a trade or a buyout,
I think both of those things could happen. And again,
it's hard for me to see Lebron the Lakers pass
the deadline, especially after this drama with Rich Paul and
Austin Reeves.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
Well, that was fun, A nice little side story for
us this week that just states into something bigger. The
the idea that you're you can move Lebron James even
with the expiring contract. I still got to make stuff match,
So I might have to give up a lot of assets,
you know what, that aren't expiring contracts to bring him on,
and I disrupt team chemistry.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
And I know Cleveland's not exactly killing it because that's.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
They're looking good. Lebron's not gonna go to it. No
one's gonna take Lebron on a team that we're championship ready.
But it's going to be a team that we thought
we were championship ready and we're not. And maybe Lebron
helps us, maybe it takes pressure off the other players.
That's why Cleveland works. He can sell it as I'm
going home for the end of my career. I'm going home.
I'm going home.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
Yeah, you keep selling it.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
That's one of those I'm gonna walk by it on
a odd sale and keep moving on. But what's funny
is as we talk about the Lakers and all the
woes and certainly losing to the Hornets, can Nipple and
all these having big nights, you talk about the game
that ball had that the Lakers are still nine games
above five hundred. So as miserable as it's been, as
(05:11):
awful as the defense is, you haven't had Austin Reeves
since Christmas. You're still nine games over five hundred. Now,
the Western Conference is awful crowded, there's no question about it.
And yes, the path of least resistance, which you are
also admitting includes your Nicks. That the opportunity made me there.
(05:33):
But I'm not disrupting anything. Even if I'm a middling team.
I'm not bringing that guy in.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
I'm just not.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
He's a guy that's still a triple double threat to
the guy that can score thirty. He's a guy, yeah,
but he's.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Given up thirty. On the other end, he was minus
seven to night against the Hornets.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
That's not something they will bring up in trade talks.
They will not bring up the defensive side.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
That's why I gotta be there with my megaphone like
I'm Jimmy the Mouth of the South.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
But for a team that is better defensively already. Okay,
we can fit Lebron James and the Lakers are not you.
You can't put now. You can hide him on another team,
you can't hide him with Luca. At the same time,
it's wow, you talk about talk about feet of clay
like that's what you know that you can't hide. But
it's like by the Knicks, you can't hide Brunton and
Karl Anthony Towns at the same time.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
Man, I'm watching this game though, because there was a
pass he made to la Ravia. I no look from
Lebron where La Ravia goes up easy two points. No
matter what happened the rest of the night that I
guarantee it Lebron brings that up. Or one of the
sycophantic reporters, a boy, that was a great passion.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. When I say it was
a I don't think it was a grind and say
it was a great pass, and it'll of course bring
the question back with that with the absolutely So yeah,
I'm telling you I don't know how, but the Lakers
are going to be close to something that close to
figuring side because hey, they see that clearly this year
might be good enough and maybe moving on from Lebron
James is gonna happen faster than you think. Look when
(06:59):
he's daring them to do it by saying, hey, maybe
ar gets traded.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
Wait what day he dropped the AR multiple times? What
are you talking about like that? Look, Rich Paul's his
own man. Yeah yeah, So like I've.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Got my hand and you know, he using him as
a puppet.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
Yeah again, happened now to talk about a guy that
I am good. It's weird because I'm glad to see
this response for him today, even though it was about
an injury okay.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
The big news in the NFL today in advanced the
playoffs this weekend, Sam Darnold, Seahawks quarterback, all of a
sudden was put on the injury report as questionable due
to a Latin injury. WHOA, WHOA? What's going on?
Speaker 3 (07:41):
Is he okay?
Speaker 6 (07:42):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (07:42):
Turns out he feels like he's gonna be okay. Can
when you put on his questionable? Okay, questionable guy? Especially
quarterbacks play he said today, Not a big deal. Guys,
he's got injections, things he can take. Not a big deal.
I'm okay. Seeing doctors talk about it on social media,
doctor David Chow, who is a Chargers team doctor for
a long time, said, let's and I would put this
on a two on a scale of one to ten. Okay,
(08:05):
Donald's gonna play. But it was really fun to see
the reaction to Sam Donald might not play this weekend
and see the reaction of people online like, no, we
need him. He's the best not where. Oh he's out
for Mono. Maybe he could be out for longer, because boy,
he's terrible with the Jets. It was fun to see
people go, no, we can't play without Sam Donald. Let
(08:26):
me just think about that for a second. We can't
play without Sam Donald. Your alternate is Drew Locke. Just say,
but I mean, just to see that. I don't need
to have a line there, I just need to left.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
I just let it hang out there. There you go.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
It's fun to see that for Donald. Right, I'm glad,
and I'm rooting for the guy because it's not like
he only stunk with the Jets. He's stunk with other
teams before. He wound up being good with Minnesota and Seattle. Okay,
So I'm okay, I'm okay with that. I'm rooting for
the guy. Good dude tried. Didn't work in New York
because we just ruined quarterbacks and he played with a
bad head coach. So okay, I'm okay with it. Right,
(09:07):
I'm okay with that part of it. But the other
but the other part of it, man, is that with
every passing day, the biggest fail in the NFL this
year clearly is the Minnesota Vikings and their epic biffing
of the quarterback position, which honestly is fireable for your
head coach and your GM because for look, Kevin O'Connell
(09:29):
has been has been pretty good, right, and I like
Adulfel Mensa. But when you are so stubborn that you
let a quarterback who showed to be one of the
top three in the NFC last year that you weren't
paying any money to, when you let him walk because
you're so stubborn that you felt you had to have
loyalty to JJ McCarthy, who now at the end of
(09:51):
the season we found out they're going to bring in
competition for him next year. How if the Jets did
something like that, it would be get rid of of
everybody who was in on that deay, get rid of
everybody who was ever in a room with either of
these quarterbacks. These guys can't have jobs that think about
how bad a decision this was, because not only did
(10:12):
they lose the guy, they lost the guy he signed
a big deal on the team and his new team
is the number one seed in the NFC playoffs. This week,
they're one game away of a game they should win
from hosting the NFC Championship game, like that's fireable stuff.
And I just want to talk about this more because
it doesn't get enough attention that there's failures and there's wow,
(10:35):
and this is not a failure where the head coach
in the GM can say, you know, we know more
about football than you.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
No.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
I watched him win fourteen games for you last year.
I watched you get into the playoffs. Yes, his last
two games weren't great. I understand that, but he was
one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. You could
have kept him for cheap. You could have franchised him,
could have give him thirty million dollars a year. You
could have traded JJ McCarthy, who would have brought you
back a first round pick at some point. And let's
face it, your fan base wouldn't care. They don't care
(11:02):
how you find a quarterback as long as you do.
But no, no, no, we're so behold into a guy
who has never taken a snap in the NFL. We're
gonna let him go because of it and all the
other options we had. No, no, no, we love this guy,
and a year later, now it's we got to bring
in somebody else. I mean that's like fireable stuff for
like an entire front office and scouting department and head
(11:23):
coaching it. That's what this That's how bad of a
mistake this is. Again, this is the worst fail that
any NFL team had this year because the evidence was
right in front of you. Didn't have to go search
it for it like Benoi Blanc suspectful play. No, it
was all right in front of you, and you still
ignored it and said, no, we're going the guy that's
never taken a snap in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
Yeah, I think there's a bunch of things going on
here and it's all related to you. One you need
to prop Sam up because you can recognize and just
say he did and it's final.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
Either.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
The other is you never want to go visit Michigan again.
So now you're denigrating the good name of.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
JJ McCarry and every which way you get it's Kyle
Whittinghammer and now, man, nobody cares anymore. Nobody cares.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
We're moved on.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
It's gone.
Speaker 4 (12:06):
But just just the idea that you had the quarterback there,
to your point, could have franchised, could have traded McCarthy,
could have done something, whereby you kept Sam Darnold around because.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
You did the near impossible. You made Justin Jefferson disappear. Yeah,
that's the other part that came out of it.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
And he played good shoulder. You made the best receiver
in the NFL look like he played for the Jets, right,
He talked up McCarthy. However, he could but read between
the lines a lot of video evidence over the course
of games. Go watch the all twenty two and watch
the in between plays. That was an angry man by
the end of that season. So you got a lot
(12:48):
to remedy there, as well as trying to figure out
who that next quarterback is. Oh and by the way,
the division's not getting any any worse. This is like
like and who makes a decision like this. It's like,
let's just say you need an operation, right, you need
surgery in a year, and there's only two doctors that
can do it.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
Only two.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
You have doctor Sam and doctor JJ. Okay, so you
got central surgery scheduled for a year. Okay, get myself
in shape?
Speaker 3 (13:11):
Whatever is?
Speaker 1 (13:11):
He said, Yeah, okay, sure, so you have doctor Sam
and doctor JJ. Hey, doctor JJ. Great resident, We expect
great things to them. All great marks on his boards
everything else, and you have doctor Sam, who is okay
once but you're not sure. But doctor Sam has an
amazing year, so good of a year. He's nominated for
Doctor of the Year, Surgeon of the Year across the country.
It's like, wow, that's pretty good. Right, all right, I
(13:33):
have watched doctor Sam do it. Doctor JJ, well, he
was hurt, maybe had a couple injuries, couldn't perform any surgeries,
but he's learning, he's learning. Okay, so now you come
time for that surgeon. It's a really big deal, very
invasive surgery. Who says, now, I want doctor JJ. I
want the guy that's never done it before. I don't
want the guy just watched do it great for a year.
I want doctor JJ. Nobody makes that pick. Nobody makes
(13:54):
that pick. And that's what the that's what the Vikings did.
Interestingly enough, I have a doctor Sam's chronologists. Okay, all right,
very good? All right? So is he good? Is he
dodger of the year. She got doctor of the year apparently, yeah.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
Could be there, Yeah, she could be doctor of the year.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
Did you have a great first sixteen weeks in an okay,
last two weeks?
Speaker 4 (14:14):
No, I think it's it's been pretty consistent, okay, and
I think her hands are healthy all right?
Speaker 1 (14:18):
Hey, because now you're talking shert. What are the size
of her hands? Are they at least nine to three quarters? Like?
That's got a measure? She got a baby to hold
that scalpel. See, now you're gonna bust out some Jared gofa.
You can't drop the scalpel in doctor Collins foot Like
what happened? Sorry? Is bus spoiler for the pit?
Speaker 3 (14:33):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (14:35):
You can't drop that scalp?
Speaker 3 (14:37):
What do you mean? Exit out a bout of Fresca?

Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with My best

two hundred and forty million dollars. We have four NFL
play off games, the National Championship Game coming up on Monday.
(16:04):
Kurt Signette's got four more days to eat Chipotle before
the game begins. Same thing every day for Kurt Signetti,
same Chipotle order.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
Can't fault a good strategy, you.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
Know, I will say, when you eat the same thing
every day, it takes a lot of you know, decision
making out of it, Like I know what I'm gonna eat.
Like it's like people who go, oh, I wear the
same clothes every day. I wear a gray T shirt
and black pants. Everything. It takes the guess work on it.
I don't. I don't. I'm not overwhelmed. I'm like, okay,
I get that, but I'm never overwhelmed with what I
have to wear. I'm like, Okay, I'll wear a hoodie
(16:36):
and pants and I'm dressed.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
Is dad every day ham sandwich and hard boiled egg.
That was his lunch. It's every day. It's like cool hand.
Speaker 1 (16:45):
Luke every day, hard boiled egg, hard dorn boiled egg.
As many as you want, simple man. I just I don't.
I get that. Well, you know, it takes a lot
of the guesswork out of the day, and I'm able
to focus on other things. I don't. I don't focus
on what I'm gonna wear for more than just like
the minute it takes to get dressed. Yeah, underwear and socks, great?
What pants am I gonna wear? What's your will I wear?
Speaker 5 (17:06):
Going?
Speaker 1 (17:06):
I'll wear this? Okay, I'm ready, I'm going out.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
I mean, once we get that full accompaniment TV show
with this right beyond the YouTube channel, you should subscribe
that Jason Smith show. Then I'll get a stylist and
we'll make that work. Yeah, I'll suit up every day.
And the signetty thing and squares and everything, signetty.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
Thing about having Chipotle every Who's a great story from
the Sporting News Today and Wall Street Journal. Like, Okay,
I understand where sit. It's difficult to figure out where
you want to go eat. Like my wife and I,
that's the whole thing, that's our whole relationship. But where
do you want to eat? I don't care. What do
you think? Okay, it's ten minutes figuring out. I get it.
But like I like eating different things, you know. I
mean again, if I was trying to make a runny
(17:46):
the same thing every day, I think a big mac
meal from McDonald's, I could do that for a long time.
I mean like, I can't see the end of where
I would stop. I could do that for a long time. Now,
that's if you make me do it. If you ask me, though,
is it not? I would want to dude. I want
to have pizza. I want to have a burger. I
want to have pasta. I want to have a salad.
I want to do what is something different every day?
(18:06):
I'm okay with that. I don't feel that paralyzed by
my decisions of where I'm gonna eat or what I'm
gonna wear.
Speaker 4 (18:13):
Yeah, I mean the only thing on your diet is
there's got to be cheese involved.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
Well, that's really some sort of cheese for everything. Yeah,
and the only place I don't have cheese is my coffee.
Would you like cheese your coffee? Wait a minute, you
can do that. Oh, hang on a second, Hang on
a second.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
You can probably sprinkle cheese.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
In your coffee. Cheese and your coffee, and so like,
when I hear those stories, I understand that, but I
really wonder what it's like for a person that feels
paralyzed that way. Like I'd feel like Patrick Bateman from
American Psycho wear the same clothes every day, the same suit,
the same everything.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
But it's funny because I have my older daughter, right,
so I take her off to college last week. She's
I'm boise and having a good time. So did the
check in earlier? She goes, Dad, I ate a hamburger
normal in between the bud like normally it's the bun
gets separated, cheese gets taken off, and then the burger
Patty's eating, and then go back.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
She goes.
Speaker 4 (19:10):
I eat it like a quote normal person. I'm like, buddy,
eat your burger.
Speaker 3 (19:14):
How you gonna be eat your burger? I don't care.
Speaker 4 (19:17):
I mean whatever she goes, but you'd be proud of me.
I'm like, okay, but to that point, like regimented person,
and now mix it all up, just like you and
the Mets. Speaking of the Mets and odds to win
the World Series, yeah, if any team has odds besides
the Dodgers. We head to Vegas right now for a
Las Vegas insider. Check him out on CBS Sports Sports
(19:39):
Line TSN. He's on Twitter at Todd Ferman, former odds
maker at Caesar's Palace.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
It is Todd Furman. Todd, what's happening, man? How you doing?
Speaker 5 (19:50):
I'm doing well to night, gentlemen. You know what, Look
at the Mets. I mean they're odds to win the
World Series go from eighteen to one down a five
to one with the big Kyle Tucker signing earlier today.
If I got my news correct, Oh.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
Good, I like that. That's good. Not spending money, not
spending sixty million on a guy who's a twenty five
and ninety guy. Okay, the odds go down. I like that.
Speaker 5 (20:08):
Look. I didn't think it was a value proposition by
any stretch of the imagination that the Dodgers are proning
up sixty million dollars annually for a guy who dealt
with a hairline fracture in his risk last year and
didn't exactly contribute in the most high leverage spots for
the Cubs. But this is the world we live in,
and apparently the next step for Steve Cohen is going
to be giving up major equity stakes in this casino
project around City Field might be the only way to
(20:29):
lure free agents to Flushing.
Speaker 1 (20:30):
All Right, So Todd, if I ask you this now,
the Dodgers go get Kyle Tucker. They now, I have
believed six everyday players who are at least two time
All Stars. What would you say their odds to win
the World Series again are at right now after this
move tonight, they're right.
Speaker 5 (20:44):
Around two to one. They're the only team right now
in Major League Baseball listed in the single digits to
win the World Series. So get excited for twenty twenty six,
and you'll understand exactly why we're headed towards a labor
stoppage in twenty twenty seven because the economic model that
we're seeing in Major League Baseball right now isn't sustainable
for the long term. And that's coming from someone who
used to love what George Steinbrenner did with the Yankees,
(21:06):
overpaying every team in Major League Baseball to try and
bring championships to the Bronx Todd.
Speaker 4 (21:11):
One of the big stories from the day before we
get into the title game and playoffs, the point shaving
scandal that goes down all these schools, involved the Chinese
League and everything else. The thing that was eye opening
for me is not that it existed, not how many
players are involved, was the fact that we were seeing
half million dollars being bet on a bunch of these games.
(21:31):
That was what kind of took me back on, Wow,
I've been missing zeros on some of these lowerhead college games.
Speaker 5 (21:38):
The logistics that takes to move that kind of money
on some of the games in question really what makes
this story so fascinating. Now, there are scenarios in play
where you have big time casino customers with large lines
of credit that are often extended courtesies to bet larger
than what you could if you walk into a casino
and try to bet any of these games in question
(21:58):
over the counter. But at the same time, I don't
care who you are. No casino should be giving players
six figure limits on these Chinese basketball games, regardless of
what they're putting through the baker ra, the roulette, or
the blackjack tables. And when you look at the other
college games, and a lot of people on Twitter pointing
out to me as if I don't understand these things,
love to use the term beard to try and get
(22:19):
people to come in bet these games, but I don't
think they realize what you need to do to be
able to move this kind of money and have it
fly in under the radar. Look, there are risk and
trading teams that are responsible for a lot of these games.
I have no idea how you're behind the counter any
major national book and suddenly you go, you know what.
I came back from launch, we had forty six dollars
(22:40):
waged on the first half of the thousand game. Now
suddenly we have four hundred and sixty eight thousand. In
terms of liability, that kind of thing just doesn't happen overnight.
And I think for those folks who aren't familiar with
the inner workings of how the industry goes it is
a real problem. And look the reality of it is
one of these books that apparently was taking some of
these large bets. Guys. I can tell you it's a
(23:01):
group that I work with. We can't get down thirty
seven dollars on an NFL player prop in the playoffs,
let alone trying to bet an NCA and T first
half under or can State Buffalo?
Speaker 1 (23:12):
So all right, Ken State Buffalo in the first round
thirty seven dollars. So let me let me let me
go with this here, Todd, because a lot of the
stuff has come up with different prop bets. Now, you
don't have to get rid of all prop bets, you
cause all have prop bets on a hey, a big
d one score is you're gonna score twenty points a night.
But if you got rid of these prop bets on
(23:32):
these games that are such low level like this, would
that take care of seventy five percent of the problems?
Like how much of it is these prop bets that
people go to that are smaller off the radar, where
a player can, hey, I can I can gack it
for tonight. I don't need to get four and a
half rebounds. Whatever it is like, would you be able
(23:53):
to really cut into these problems by just getting rid
of those prop bets.
Speaker 5 (23:57):
Well, in this situation, it's a little bit different than
a Terry year scenario that played out. I mean these
are more or less over unders and sides for full
games and or derivative markets. And when I say derivative markets,
I mean first task quarters, that sort of thing that
are a little bit different. But look, I'm going to
be the biggest proponent of trying to eliminate some of
the player props for guys six through ten on an
(24:18):
NBA roster. I understand why sportsbooks have to try and
increase that inventory so people can add different legs to
their single game parlay. But if it's not a household name,
the only thing you're doing is opening yourself up for
a scenario that we've seen unfold. And while I know
no one is going to be immune to it and
there's always going to be outliers. Look, we've created this world,
(24:39):
and I think there's a lot of finger pointing that
needs to go on. But at the same time, even
in the regulated space, if these sports books aren't opening
some of these markets for larger limits, you know we've
seen the wild Wild West. It has largely become the
prediction markets that are out there where there are apparently
no rules whatsoever. So we're going into a little bit
of uncharted territory as it pertains to wagering our sports contracts.
(25:00):
Whatever card of vernacular or parlance you want to use,
the bottom line is that sports betting and unregulated markets
are going to create heaps of problems. And while they
may be isolated incidents, there's still things that I think
the NCAA and professional sports to some extent need to
be cognizant of and make sure they can do their
best to try and police any nefarious behavior that might
(25:21):
be taking place.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
Todd.
Speaker 4 (25:22):
This weekend NFL Divisional Playoffs, we start things Buffalo, Denver.
It's Josh Allen and a band of Merriman trying to
take down Sean Payton, who's getting haughty and chesty with reporters.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
And this is a.
Speaker 5 (25:36):
Bill's team to your point, the band of Merriman, I mean,
I'm not sure most diehard Bills fans could pick out
their wide receiver room from a police lineup if they
were asked to do so. Going into this weekend, I mean,
you go through their depth chart, irr ir, Tyrell Shavers,
Joshua Palmer, Gabe Davis. We're not sure if Ty Johnson
will be out there, nothing like Keon Coleman, who's been
suspended for multiple games without our I mean earlier this year,
(26:00):
if from the team or healthy scratch, depending on what
terminology you want to use, being leaned on against this
Denver bronco secondary and Brandon Cooks, who feels like he's
one hundred and seven years old, suddenly becomes a de
facto number one option opposite Khalil Shakir. So it's going
to be on josh Allen. But I do think the
Bills will find a path to run the football with
James Cook and establish some physicality there. This is a
(26:21):
Bill's defense that I know has been a little bit
leaky against the run, but they're slightly underrated against the
pass and have done a good job in terms of
eliminating some of those big explosive plays against them. And
on the flip side of things, this Denver defense is good.
I don't think it's necessarily as good as advertised, and
I think there are still a lot of questions we
all have about bo Nix and his ability to win
games entirely on his own, and we'll see what Sean
(26:44):
Payton alects to do. But I do think points could
be at a premium, especially early in this game. I
actually like the first half total under more so than
trying to pick the team they'll let advance to the
AFT Championship.
Speaker 1 (26:53):
Todd, how concerned are you? Sam Darnold added to the
injury report this week with his lad injury. It doesn't
look like it's but still he's on the injury report.
How does that affect Seahawks forty nine ers?
Speaker 5 (27:04):
You know, we all love to make jokes about Sam
Darnold and what he doesn't have on his resume so
far from Week eighteen performances to playoff victories. But the
fact that people were serious when they saw this injury
news break earlier, that they thought that Drew Lock could
somehow be an upgrade makes me laugh and cry all
at the same time, because I've seen enough of the
Drew Locke experience going back to his time at Missouri
(27:24):
that unless you're playing a team from a group of
five conference, Drew Lock's not the guy that's going to
be able to navigate through a Roberts slid defense, It's
going to be a steady dose to Kenneth Walker and
of course Zach Sharboney as well. This Seattle Seahawks defense
will be up to the task. This game opened at six.
We saw it get his highest seven and a half.
A little bit of dog money came in with that
Donald News some under money as well. I think the
(27:46):
forty nine ers, to see how they're going to move
the football offensively will be worth watching. Because Christian McCaffrey
largely bottled up week eighteen, I think that can repeat
here and brock Perty's going to have to do a
little bit more with his arms. So fascinating game for me.
They have a strong opinion. Would lean still towards Seattle
looking to lay that seven. I think the defense can
capitalize on a short field or two, and the Seahawks
(28:07):
left plenty of points out there in the regular season
finale up there at Santa Clara.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
Bears in the Pope plus three and a half all day.
Speaker 5 (28:13):
Right, Yeah, I'm not sure I'm going to that particular direction,
but frigid temperatures will be the cooldest game that Matthew
Stafford has apparently played in his illustrious career. We're still
not sure that severity of the finger injury. I know
the X rays came back negative. At the same time,
we'll see how his accuracy is impacted by six degrees.
But look, harm you and the rest of the Bear
(28:35):
fans out there have to cherish this moment before you're
driving across the state line to Indiana, where the Bears
will be playing their home games beginning in twenty thirty two.
Speaker 3 (28:42):
Let's go all right, Todd.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
Lastly, we have the National Championship game on Monday night, Miami,
the underdog, Kurt Signetti powered by Chipotle. What do you
think I think.
Speaker 5 (28:52):
That people are buying into this Indiana hype a little
bit too much here. And the reason I say that
when you look at this number that opens seven and
a half, it's been one way. Indiana closed a seven
point favorite in the Rose Bowl against Alabama. I'm pretty
sure that all of us would be willing to back
up our Brinks truck and bet Miami plus one and
a half against that current version of Alabama that we
saw laying egg. Look, this is a Miami team who's
(29:14):
relished the underdog role, not just this season, but our
Mario Christobal's leadership. They've consistently raised their level of play
and we're able to upset Ohio State is a seven and
a half point dog in the Connon Bow by playing
a perfect football game. They have to be air tight
to win a game like this. They can't play as
sloppy as they did against old myths, but win a
spot where they're very familiar. No pressure on the Hurricanes.
(29:35):
They've waited twenty plus years to get revenges more than
a touchdown underdog against the Big ten Fox. Given what
didn't go their way against the Ohio State Buck, guys,
I think Miami covers. They're extremely live and quite frankly, guys,
I think you can make a lot worse best than
backing the Canes on the money line to win this
game outright at hard Rock on Monday night.
Speaker 1 (29:51):
He's on Twitter at Todd Ferman, That is, at Todd Firman.
Check them out CBS Sports Line, TSN. Todd as always Buddy,
appreciate it and enjoyed the games this weekend.
Speaker 5 (30:01):
I appreciate his always, guys. I'm going to go back
to learning the phonetic pronunciations of all the teams in
the professional Chinese basketball asso season going good bad.
Speaker 1 (30:10):
There goes Todd Furman. Now time to find out what's
trending in the wide world of sports with someone who
told me, hey, I bet the Chinese Basketball Association every night.
It's Steve Desager, by.
Speaker 6 (30:23):
The way, when he referenced on the Rams and Matthew Stafford,
I have read that Stafford, twelve seasons with Detroit has
never played in a game with game time temperature under
twenty degrees, only played at Soldier Field in December twice.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
In his long career in that division.
Speaker 6 (30:39):
For what it's worth, the Rams as a team since
nineteen ninety one only two games with a game temperature
of twenty or lower, and both of those were losses
at lambeau Field Green Bay many years ago.
Speaker 1 (30:49):
I thought you were going to say Matthew Stafford's entire
career in Detroit never played in a playoff game. I
thought you're going to say, Well, that kind of goes
without saying.
Speaker 6 (30:57):
Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold says he will play Saturday night
despite an oblique injury. Forty nine Ers linebacker Fred Warner
is still out this weekend after October's bad ankle injury.
Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen will play Saturday despite foot, knee,
and finger injuries. He's practiced fully this week. Wide receiver
of the Texans, Nico Collins mispractice again today with a concussion.
(31:18):
Houston's at New England Sunday, and then the Rams play
at Chicago and Yes, temperature under twenty degrees the current
forecast for that game.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
The New York Giants are.
Speaker 6 (31:25):
Reportedly finalizing a contract with head coach John Harbaugh. College
Football's national title game is Monday, Indiana at Miami.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
The late NBA game went.
Speaker 6 (31:34):
To Charlotte beating the Lakers in LA one thirty five,
one seventeen despite thirty nine points from Luca Donsig. At Dallas,
Cooper Flag of the MAVs was out with a sprained ankle,
but Dallas beat Utah one forty four to one twenty two.
San Antonio pounded Milwaukee. Portland beat Atlanta. At Golden State
Warriors over New York one twenty six, one thirteen. Jalen
(31:56):
Brunson and the Knicks was out with a sprained ankle.
Jimmy Butler the Warriors thi thirty two points. Boston got
thirty nine off the bench from Anfreny Simons and one
at Miami won nineteen one fourteen. Detroit edge Phoenix one
o eight one oh five, although the Pistons kid Cunningham
three of sixteen shooting from the floor ten points. Oklahoma
City's won five straight. Its record is up to thirty
(32:17):
five and seven. OKC one at Houston won eleven to
ninety one. And there was an NBA game in Berlin today,
first ever nb regular season game in Germany. Orlando came
back to beat Memphis one eighteen one eleven Franz Wagner
eighteen points for the Magic. They'll play each other again
on Sunday I in London. By the way, John Morant
did not play today due to a Bruce cav Demantus
(32:39):
Abonis of the King's practice fully today could return from
injury Friday, but Anthony Edwards and Minnesota will miss another
game on Friday with a foot injury. Men's college hoops
Gonzaga won at Washington State. Women's hoops South Carolina edged
Texas in a top five matchup sixty eight sixty five.
The Dodgers are signing Ray fielder Kyle Tucker, reportedly a
(32:59):
four year deal with an opt out after year two
and after year three, and longtime baseball writer Bob Ningale
USA it says, excuse me, you can choke.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
Up on the Mets.
Speaker 6 (33:13):
And if that ever happened.
Speaker 3 (33:15):
The Mets and Yankees, he says.
Speaker 6 (33:16):
Will now be a bidding war for out outfielder Cody Bellinger.
Speaker 1 (33:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (33:20):
Great, and the Phillies are overwhelming favorites to sign bobad
end quote back to you.
Speaker 4 (33:26):
Yeah, the Mets finally got him after all these years,
Thanks Evo.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
That's right.
Speaker 6 (33:34):
There's still a three hundred million dollar payroll and a
tax to pay, but I'm sure everything is fine.
Speaker 1 (33:38):
Don't have a game tomorrow. We're fine. When we trade
for Freddy Peralta and Tarik school Ball and we and
we and we and we trade for Babe Ruth, will
be fine, will be fine.
Speaker 6 (33:49):
So the Mets will just be scouting the World Baseball
Classic and picking off one talent after is available.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
You might as well get Bobby Bania's jerseys.
Speaker 3 (34:00):
You're gonna burn that million this year.
Speaker 1 (34:01):
And I started the whole defferred payments thing. Coming up next,
we get back into the big Kyle Tucker story, the
story of the night and a favor. I'm going to
ask of the Los Angeles Dodgers that I favor a
favor they need to do for every baseball fan. But
it's not what you think. That's next, right here, Jason
and Mike Fox Sports Radio.
