like Wemby's going to the free throw line to cut
this to one. Driving on Carl Anthony Towns. He draws
the foul with a big push. Ooh, man, I don't know, Man,
I don't know. You didn't get a grab by Karl

Anthony Towns. Maybe it's gonna get challenged.

But this last couple of minutes, the Spurs looked like
they were on vapors. They looked exhausted. Wemby shot to
hitting the top of the backboard. The Spurs really did
not look like they had anything going on. The Knicks
had a six point lead, but Jalen Brunson misses another
bad miss, Champennie goes to the free throw line for

a couple and now Wemby going for a free throw
to make it a one point game with three and
a half left to go in the fourth quarter. I
felt like the Knicks really had a chance there to
finish the Spurs. They had a really wobbly couple of
minutes and there when it looked like they were spent
because they're exhausted. And this is the time when I thought,
this is what the Knicks need to do. You get
to the fourth quarter at the end when it's close,

execute like you've done all season long. Because the Spurs
are going to be exhausted. Well, they have it exactly
where they want it right now, one point game with
three minutes left to go, and the Spurs look exhausted
and they need to make shots. Jalen Brunson was on
a heater. He had eight points in a row. Now
he's missed his last three and now the Spurs can
actually take the lead with a bucket coming down floor.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
And that was another one of those shots.

He got his space, got his look square up just
inside the free throw line and missed it. But we
finally saw a little bit of the aggression from Wehm
Binyama we and multiple possessions for the Spurs where he
was getting bodied and where normally you'd expect a fall call,
no foul call. Frustrated, then had that weird looking three
point shot that hit the top of the backboard. If

that would have banked in, that would have made Duncan
and Robinson proud.

Yeah, I can tell you that.

But then he had that frustration drive on cat like
you said, got some extra body into him, did get
the fall call to the line. And here we said
at one point game, coming up on two minutes, Wemby
going to the free throw line again. Apparently Wemby's just
gonna go every other time down the floor. So a
little over two minutes left to go, Wemby at the
line could give the Spurs the lead. Right now again,

ninety four to ninety three lead for the Knicks with
two and a half to go in the fourth quarter. Now, meanwhile,
what we just saw a couple moments ago was absolutely insane,
and we have a little more details on and now, boy,
the picture going around is crazy. It was a little
bit less than ten minutes ago in real time, a

fan ran on the court.

In the middle of play and.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Stopped at the right about at the free throw line
and wanted to take a selfie of himself. This guy
runs on the floor, he's laughing, he's got his camera. No,
I don't know if there's gonna be video, because I'll
tell you what when it goes put online, this is
gonna be one hell of a selfie. He runs to
the free throw line and it's like he's trying to
take a selfie of himself with Wemby behind him. Security
runs out, one guy comes from behind, one guy comes

from under the basket, grabs him and pulls him off.
But the Frostburg just sent me a screen grab of
the guy taking the selfie, and it looks like Wemby
is smiling. But no, I don't know if he's smiling
because here's a guy that's come on the floor to
take a selfie, or if he's going, oh, i'll give you.

You need you give your guts, you ran on here,
I'll smile for the cell phone.

Because soccer matches, right, because we've seen plenty of stars
and soccer matches. They look around confused, how did someone
get all the way to the middle of the pitch.
But it's like, all right, appreciation for the effort, here's

But yeah, very odd circumstance. And if one of those
guys had terry taated his ass and run him into

that's such a foolhardy and jackassery move. But here's the
thing that's gonna go so viral, Like, what's the what's

when she took it and went viral, like the most

That was before everybody, you're not hosting the oscars if
people think they still hate you in public before, but
that in reality said it, that was before that. I mean,
you're not going back and getting rid of the clicks
that were there, you know what I mean?

But yeah, all that to say, it's he'll get his
run and someone will know his name. I'm gonna do
my best to just never see his stupid ass again.

I mean really, I wonder if he took video or
was trying to take a hopefully it's video, because it
really it looks like Wemby's finally.

Meanwhile, GMG, just bought the footage. No, just kidding.

A reversal of fortune in San Antonio. After Wemby free
throws have given the Spurs a one point lead, Jalen
Brunson hits a three from the corner for a two
point lead for the Knicks. They're able to halt them defensively,
and now mcal bridges at the free throw line for two.

He has made them both. It is a ninety nine
to ninety five lead for the Knicks with about a
minute left to go in regulation. This is a game
that started out. Each team had runs, the Knicks reeled
them in. It's been great back and forth. It's been
incredible theater. And this is just game one. It's just yeah,
we've still got a minute left to go. But it
(06:31):
has been some kind of fun up and down play.
It's exactly what the NBA wants. You have the Knicks
playing to their level. You have Wemby who has been
playing terrific and trying to take over in the last
couple of minutes. And so this is the NBA is
gonna say, Okay, we got what we want right now.
No one's talking about tanking now. He turned into the
Hulk a little too late, at least at this point.

Tweeted the night Elmo hopes both teams have fun or basketballs.
A guy named Evan responded with you live in New
York City, trader, so he had that Oh Jalen Brunson, Wow, okay, sorry,
here's what just happened. Cheering in the press box, Wemby
turns it over badly in the front court by the Spurs.

He was I don't know if he was gonna look
like he was gonna try to dribble back and take
a three, but Wemby turns it over. The Knicks go
down and Jalen Brunson hits a shot to make it
a one oh one ninety five lead. They also have
the basketball as Wemby has missed a three, so it's
a six point Nick lead with twenty nine seconds left.

Justin we were saying great things about wem Baby. That
was a bad turnover. It was it was an unforced error.
He just like looks like he lost control, looks like
he was trying to pull his dribble back and the
ball gets knocked out. Josh Hart picks it up, the
Knicks get in for a hoop by Jalen Brunson and
now Ogian Unobi at the free throw line. He has
made the first of two. A seven point lead. Now
for the Knicks with thirty seconds left to go, starting
(08:00):
to celebrate. Adam Silver is still excited because well we
got both superstars, got hurt and stayed in the game.
Not quite the Willis Reid moment. But Jalen Brunson, remember
all that time ago, if we hit the rewind, left
the game, knee hobbled, went to the locker room, sat
on the bench for the first four plus minutes of
(08:21):
the second quarter, and then he's put them on his
back here in the fourth quarter, as we've seen so
many times during the regular season and into these playoffs.
Twenty seconds left to go, it's a one oh three
ninety five lead for the Knicks. Ball out of bounds
to the Spurs again. Twenty seconds left and the Knicks
(08:42):
are that much away from a one game to none
lead in the NBA Finals. Nick Fans who made the
tripper going nuts. Tracy Morgan is going crazy. Look gonna
be another bad day for the Jalen Brunson's too small,
not good enough to lead a team to a championship.
That hoop he just scored, trying to draw the foul,
and I don't know why he's trying to draw the foul.
(09:04):
They're not going to put him at the free throw
line and not putting anybody else in the line besides
Wemby still is able to hit that tough jumper, that
ten to fifteen foot jumper, that he has become the
best guy in the league at hitting. You know KD
had that for a few years. The mid range jumper
was his the lost art was always fun to see.
No one hits that jumper like Jalen Brunson. Despite a

bad night shooting, he now has thirty points and the
Knicks are twenty seconds away from a one game to
none lead. Mike Harmon, The Knicks are twenty seconds away
game one, long series to come, but a huge effort
here fourth quarter Brunson again the scare of the knee,
but odd running ragged right, He's finding open spots. And

even when he had that little cold streak, wasn't that
the Spurs were able to really come back and surmount
much of an effort. The Aaron Fox has had another
invisible game. Calden Johnson struggled as he did much of
the last series, and when Bin Yama you called for
him to be the incredible Hulk a couple of weeks ago.
He showed up at in different spots during that Thunder series.

Here passive, frustrated. Good job by Cat, good job by
Mitchell Robinson, bodying him up left and right. Here was
as we're watching a review and I think a challenge
on the play. Aaron Fox had an open land on
bridges for a layup, decided to throw it to the
corner and your guy Landry Shammitt.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
Yeah, it's under review.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
It looked like it was off of Shammitt when that's
why I said ball at a bounce of the spurs.
But replay looks like it might have gone off Champenny's hand.
So now they're looking at it. Right now, the play
is under review. This would now be nix ball with
twenty seconds to go in an eight point lead, so
they're looking at it. The angle they just showed really
made it look like it was off the spurs. But again,

you know, hey, who knows simultaneous Foster is officiating this game.

You never know what you're gonna get.

It might have an extra angle, know, but Champagney for
that to that point, he's five of ten from the field,
five of nine from three. He's got one point in
the second half. Yeah, right, he's been absolutely invisible. The
Knicks give them credit, only eight turnovers in the game.
They've done a great job of keeping control, keeping their composure,
and even with some of those bad shot selection, you

know you're you're getting good work on the glass, and again,
Karl Anthony Towns. For all all Brunson's fourth quarter was amazing,
but Karl Anthony Towns is the tale of the tape.
He has the best way both offensively and defensively. This
you could say it's the Karl Anthony Towns.

So that's it.

The defensive amazing aren't going to show in the in
the box score. That's the thing, right, You're gonna look
at Wemby's Wemby's shooting percentage and just say, wow, he
had an off night. He took a nine to three pointers.
He's six of twenty one, twelve to thirteen from the
foul line. But what Karl Anthony Towns did as a
as a primary defenser and just being an agitator, And

that's the thing we've seen with Wemby times, just like
Jokic earlier in that series against Minnesota, there's just a
point where he gets a little out of himself.

But the funny thing is you talk, Okay, Wenby's not shot, well,
brun'side shot Well, you know who's shot well in this game?

The Knicks are at forty percent and the Spurs are
at thirty six percent. Outside of Champagne, who hit all
his shots in the first half, he is scoreless or
he has one point in the second half. He was
five of six from the floor in the first half,
oh for four in the second half.

Nobody has shot well that.

This has been a one of those typical finals games
where Okay, you have a layoff for the Knicks for
a little while, you have the Spurs trying to come
back emotionally to try to uh, you know, try to
get game one, and it's become a bit of a fight,
and it's been a slog fest, and it looks like
the Knicks are going to come through here. The ball
on review was viewed to be off of the Spurs.

So the Knicks are going to the free throw line
up by eight with twenty seconds left to go and
a couple of free throws. That's gonna salt this thing away.
Look at you, I'm kids, Oh how excited I am?
Spurs scream I want to scream. I'm just just let
it out. Back away from the microphone so you don't
blow my ears. So excited because whenever I plug in here,
right we all need to have annual hearing tests added

to our are our things. But yeah, to your point,
these shooting percentages are awful. You look at the Spurs
for the game, sixteen assists on their thirty two makes
against twelve turnovers, whereby you've got the Knicks twenty assists
against eight turnovers, eight steals on the game. So one
oh five ninety five is the Knicks lead after two

free throws by Og and Unobi, and the Knicks are
gonna dribble this one out.

Go for the dunk, get the over, go New York O,
New York co. Oh yeah, give it to me.

Five second dance party, the Nicks run, Nicks in four.
The Knicks win it by double digits, one oh five
ninety five. Something is happening on the floor right now.
Jalen Brunson had words with somebody. I looked at the
scorers table, hard to tell who it was, but he

had to be moved away from the scorers table. Go
back and look and see that again. They haven't shown
a replay yet. Obviously they're you know, they're cutting around
different things, interviews with different players. It looked like he
definitely had something to say to somebody, don't know who
it was, don't know what, but a little chippy way
to end game one of the NBA Finals. Yeah, you

got an idiot running on the quarter earlier, he got
some chippiness, a lot of back and forth, a lot
of yelling at the officials and Scott Foster's crew over
the course of the night trying to figure out what
they were watching in and EBB, and a flow of
this game.

But for Jalen Brunston.

Yeah, a little little odd moment as he goes to
do the postgame interview, but fourth quarter, Brunson front and
center once again injury scare earlier, but finishes the job.
He and Kat on full display right carrying this squad.
And for those that paid the under seven hundred bucks
which was get in earlier today, I saw tickets at
six twenty eight or something like that, including all fees

they got, they got a hell of a game.

I mean, look, I'm shaking right now.

No, no, you're a little twitch now, like three games
away from the NBA title.

and it turns out to be a ten point win.
What are the Knicks doing the playoffs? They win by
double dis seven straight road games where they've won by
at least ten points. The winner of game one wins
the NBA title seventy percent of the time. You couldn't

made for a funny moment, especially as Jalen Brutson was,

how Game one is going to go. The Knicks are
going to stay close, the Spurs are going to be
exhausted in the fourth quarter, and the Knicks are going
to take over, which is what they've done all season long.
And that's exactly what happened. You could see, I mean
Wemby's jumpers are hitting the top of the backboard. You

could see that they just all of a sudden that
gas tank got to e and the Knicks were able
to pull away in another double digit win for the Knicks.

Yeah, I thought it was certainly they out executed.
Speaker 4 (20:33):
The Knicks did executed.

The Spurs down the stretch, turnovers by the Aaron Fox
by Wemby, partly.

In fatigue for sure. I also think just sort.

Of inexperience in the moment they played, and it's been
an issue with them even in the Oklahoma City Series
where they just play too fast at times.

And I've said it.

I've said it throughout the Thunder series, Like when you
get to this stage of the playoffs, it's not always
about just making the electric play. Sometimes it's just about
not beating yourself and giving yourself a chance.

And ultimately, you know, if.

You saw the Knicks down the stretch, it wasn't like
they were making every shot, but they were getting a
shot every time.

And when you get a shot, at least you have
the opportunity to get back and defend.

And ultimately that made the difference in terms.

Of the execution and so and then you.

Know, let's let's face it, you got Jalen Brunson, proven closer.
Who is the closer for the San Antonio Spurs. My
money would be on Dylan Harper, but you're talking about
a rookie and or Victor Weinbanyama, a big man who
you it's a little bit of a struggle to get

him the ball in places that he can be effective.
So certainly there's there's certain things that the nick have
an edge in and they came to four in this
particular game. I think we're going to have a great series.

I'm still not.

I went into it thinking the Spurs were going to win,
but that the Knicks had a chance, and a bigger
chance than most people were giving them. I'm going to
stick with that for now. I need to see I
need to see another game, simply because san Antonio has
been so good at making adjustments and learning from their
mistakes in short order, and they've got a few mistakes
(22:31):
that they need to learn from.

One of the things we pride ourselves on the show
is being ahead of the curve and being first to
say it. So let me start throwing flowers in the
general defensive effort that we got in that direction for
Karl Anthony Towns things that have never been said on
national radio before.
Speaker 4 (22:50):
No, I mean, he's still kind of goofy.
Speaker 9 (22:52):
Right, Yeah, after he took the elbow or he took
the shoulder to the chest in the final minutes from
Wemby and he's laying down, it was just gesticulation or suggesters,
I'm like, what is he doing right now?
Speaker 4 (23:05):
Like? But but that said, you know, I think it's
probably the.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
Best game of his career. I mean, not only offensively,
eighteen twelve and four assists and what he did because
Wenby was what what two for eleven something like that
with as a primary.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
Defender, like this is the game, this is the best
game of his career that he's had.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (23:26):
Well, and I've said it all year, what my feeling
is is that that Carl has been His numbers haven't
been as as good or as as robust as they
were in Minnesota or at other times even as a
nick but but he's been more efficient and he's been
willing to play that secondary role. And Jalen said something
(23:49):
afterward about how he felt that sort of their chemistry
and having each other's back was what carried them through
this game.

And I really think that that's one.
Speaker 8 (23:57):
Of the the under lying or the underrated elements about
this team, because there was so much talk at the
beginning of the year about it being a fractured team,
about guys struggling with their roles about and what I've

And what everybody the role that everybody has to play,
and the hierarchy is built. And that's what I really
loved about sort of watching these two teams right now.

You know, there's some teams usually when they have a
James Harden on them, where there's there's a there's a
battle of who's supposed to be taking the shot and
what are we supposed to be doing.

And I think with both of these teams, everybody's committed
to the game plan and uh and Karl Anthony Towns included.

And I don't know how many times we've felt that
way about about.

Towns and that he was all in for doing what
he needed to do in order for the team to win,
as opposed to doing everything that he thought he should
be doing in order for the team to win.

There's a difference there, but there's a big one and it's.
Speaker 8 (25:09):
Probably one of the biggest reasons why the Knicks are
in the finals in up one.
Speaker 1 (25:13):
L go ahead, Jesse, if you could put a finger
on because I have my thoughts, I kind of think
it's more of a Over the course of the last
month of the regular season, defensively, the Knicks really started
to get it.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
And you wouldn't look.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
At the floor and say, boy, you can't play Brunston
and Karl Anthony Towns together anymore. So it took him
a while, but the last month they started to get it.
When Karl Anthony Towns became more facilitator, that really opened
up the offense. It's one of those things where it's
a late breaking phenomenon, but it's still something that happened
over over a period of time where you could see
where the Knicks were with a month ago in the
(25:47):
regular season and then basically after Game three against the Hawks.

Yeah.
Speaker 8 (25:51):
No, and when you have you know, when you have success,
when you have positive results, that gets everybody buying into
what needs to be done. And let's face it, the Knicks,
when you look at all the guys on the team
and all they've been through, it reminds me a little

bit of the Boston Celtics when they brought Kevin Garnett
and Ray Allen and.
Speaker 4 (26:17):
Paul Pierce together.
Speaker 8 (26:18):
It's guys who've been around the league long enough to
know that your opportunities to go win a ring are
few and far between. Young guys, you know, the Anthony
Edwards in the league, think ah, you know I've got time,
I'm going to get one. And then you get guys
that have been around for a minute, like a Josh
Hart and have been in a couple of different places,
and they realize, man, we may never get.
Speaker 4 (26:39):
This chance again.
Speaker 8 (26:41):
And so it results in guys being willing to make
sacrifices and having a focus and putting what the team
needs first, that being.
Speaker 4 (26:52):
Defense as well as you can play it.
Speaker 8 (26:54):
Even if you're not a great defender, give me the effort,
don't quit on plays, do what you can, and let's
see if we're good enough.
Speaker 4 (27:03):
And I think that's that's the mindset of the Knicks.
It also helped that there was probably what Mike, what
would you say?

I would say probably at least five thousand Jason Smith's
in the building.

And Brunson hits that incredible lean in, lean back, and
I don't know why he's.

He hits that shot, it's a six point lead, and
that that was when I said, this is going this
is going our way, Like all of a sudden, I'm
thinking Wemby's going to hit a three. Wenby's gonna get
to the free throw line, and he just biffs it.
And I was it was stunning when I saw that happen,
and I said, oh my god, we're gonna win.

We're gonna win. When I saw that ball on the ground,
and heart picks up, so we're gonna win. We're gonna
win this game.

It probably would have been the It probably was the
exact opposite feeling of when Wemby came down and hit
that three over Mitchell Robinson.

You're like, oh no, yeah, yeah.

No, I've seen this. I've seen this movie before. Yeah no.

But I mean I think that was an example like
I don't I don't want Wemby with the game on
the line.

Him trying to cross over Mitchell Robinson at the three
point line because and I get this is what I
mean about not beating yourself, Like because if you do,
if you don't get it there, or if he does
turn the ball over and he's a seven to five guy,
I mean you can he dribbles low for a tall guy,

the opportunity for something to go wrong and for that
to be a live ball going the other direction is
just too great, Like you need to play more of fishing,
thoughtful basketball in those situations. And it's what I love
about about Wemby at this stage.

First time he's in the finals, he's pulling up and
shooting threes, no problem.

With you know, in a critical situation he's looking to
cross somebody over at thirty feet. But ultimately it's experience.

I mean, you looked at Jalen Brunson and was where

What he was trying to get.

We talk on believable and the Knicks going up one
zip over the Spurs. We talked about Carl Anthony Towns
last hour. He's the reason why this has won nothing.
This was the best game of Karl Anthony Towns' career
right both ends of the court. Defensively, what he did
to Wemby offensively, being being the facilitator, being the second
(39:23):
scorer they needed eighteen twelve and six. He was terrific.
The Knicks win this game and they pull away because
Jalen Brunson does Jalen Brunson things.
Speaker 3 (39:33):
The end of the game. He's clutch. Again.
Speaker 1 (39:36):
I don't know that there's a guy in the league
that hits more clutch shots, not more clutch free throws.
That would be SGA, But I don't know there's a
guy at the end of games because consistently he takes
all the shots right still, the way the offense opens up,
there's room for other guys. And because the offenses open
up more, it's harder to concentrate just on Brunson, whereas
even last year at this time it was okay, four
(39:57):
guys standing around and maybe Jalen bruns can get his
own shot and he makes it. It's make or miss league.
He makes it that great. Sometimes he misses, the Knicks
would blow a big lead. That's how it goes. But
I don't know that there's a guy that hits the
sheer number of clutch shots down the stretch in a
tight game that Brunson does. And he did it tonight
thirteen points in the fourth quarter. And you know, at
(40:18):
the end, and this is what I've talked about the
Knicks all season long, even going back to the beginning
of the year, I said, the last four minutes of
a game, nobody out executes the Knicks, right. They have
figured out a way offensively to make it where it's
not the team it was a year ago. No one's
going to out execute them because now it's a little
bit different offense. Brunson's one of the most clutch guys
(40:38):
in the game. You're not going to out execute the
Knicks in the final four minutes. And when you think
about that, you think about the huge advantage they have
over the Spurs, because, okay, at the end of a
game like this is a tie game basically over the
course of the last couple of minutes, Okay, So it's
Brunson against two right, Like, Okay, the Spurs are a
great team, right, great young team. Wemby, Castle, Harper, Fox, right, champion,
(41:03):
he made shots tonight. But okay, where's the ball going
when you need a basket? I know Jalen Brunt is
going to take the shot. And if Jalen Brunson gets
doubled or he's gonna find a way to find the
open guy, whether it's og Or Hart or Bridges or
Karl Anthony Towns. But who's going to do that for
the Spurs? Right when it comes down to a close
(41:24):
game and the Spurs need a bucket? Where are you
gonna go? Like you need to go? And and and
Rick Buker talked to us and saying, you know, the
thing is obviously Wemby is someone you want to give
him the ball to, but being a big, that's kind
of hard to do. Even if you're a skilled big
like Wemby, it's hard to go to Wemby, right, So okay,
so if it's not Wenby, it's a guy with the
ball in his hands, Like, is Daron Fox making all
these shots that Jalen Brunson is.
Speaker 3 (41:46):
He's not Dylan.
Speaker 1 (41:46):
Harper's terrific, right, And he was a guy I told
you last night, who was I scared of having a
big series?
Speaker 3 (41:50):
Dylan Harper? He had a huge game tonight, right?
Speaker 1 (41:52):
No, No, No, he had a huge start to the game,
a huge court in the fourth quarter, and if you
look at his shot charged for the fourth quarter, he
took his many and you and I did combined. So
obviously you know he's not gonna get the shots at
the end of the game. Is it gonna be champion? No,
because he had one shot in the second half. Who's
gonna take those shots? Who's gonna be that guy? When
(42:14):
it's a close game and the NBA is a man's game,
it comes down to this. These are big These are
big decisions. These are big possessions where the entire season
rests on what you can do, and when you have
somebody that you know is going to take those shots. Okay,
I mean going back to the Thunder series against the Spurs,
(42:34):
like SGA was the only guy that could take that. Okay, great,
but SGA's game is not quite what Brunson's game is.
When it comes to what Brunson has at his disposal,
Sga is either making that shot and or nobody else's.
So when SGA's thing is to get into the lane, well,
guess what with Wemby being Wemby, he had a tough
(42:57):
time the entire series shooting.
Speaker 3 (42:59):
Right.
Speaker 1 (42:59):
So that's why I talk about the Thunder being a
great matchup for the Spurs, because, yeah, they don't have
that second score. There's nobody else where they can go
with the ball. You can just isolate on SGA, and
with Wemby being Wemby, you're gonna force him into bad shooting.
With the Knicks, Okay, you want to isolate on Jentlen Brunson,
there's other guys can make those shots. But still, you know,
when you come down to the end of the game,
you have clarity as to where the ball is gonna
(43:21):
go and how this offense is gonna run.
Speaker 3 (43:23):
Do the Spurs have any clarity? They don't know.
Speaker 1 (43:25):
The other thing when you look at the Knicks construction
is you've got guys, and I'll just say it in
its basis terms, you got guys with a lot of
ass that'll clear ways from brunts and to fine lanes. Right,
He's a small guy, great body, control all of that stuff.
But without Mitchell without Cat, that lane gets cluttered real fast.
(43:46):
Those guys clear a lot of space for him, and
Oklahoma City didn't have that guy, right, and Jet's not
moving any bodies. I mean, Hartenstein is to a point,
but he doesn't live down in the low post the
same way and create those same types of opportunities SGA.
A lot of it was body control, get to the line,
all of that stuff when we look at where the
spurs are. Darren Fox has been a great disappointment. Like
(44:09):
I know he was hurt to start last series, but
he was invisible tonight, shot poorly and in the fourth quarter.
The ball's got to be in his hands. Wemby can't
be eighteen feet from the basket. And then okay, let
me try to drive against now four guys that are
gonna just impede my way to the basket, and you
don't have the same level of rebounding.
Speaker 4 (44:30):
Right.
Speaker 1 (44:30):
The video that's making the rounds now isn't game related.
It goes back to Jalen Brunson. You and I were
on air when this started circulating, when Josh Harten got
traded to the Knicks and he was reunited with his
guy and he was at an airport and started running around.
He had to his phone trying to confirm to that case.
You got a guy like Josh Hart rebound no space whatever.
(44:50):
But again, you've got bigs that can create that X space.
Spurs don't have that guy. No, they don't have that
guy because they're not on the court at the same time. Right,
Cornett does that to a degree, but only do a
much smaller degree. He still has one of the great
rundown blocks since shot blocker himself waiting. But but they're
not on the court together a ton right, You're you're
(45:11):
mixing and matching. But the fact that Dylan Harper wasn't
around for much of the second half and that Darren
Fox played so terribly. Now he played well in Game
seven when you needed him. Keldon Johnson played well in
Game seven. They both were useless from a tactical standpoint tonight.
Both kind of shrunk away in the moment, allowing Jalen
(45:32):
Brunson to have one of those New York minutes once again. Look,
the Knicks seemed to be more in sync with each other,
which surprisers are right. I mean, they've been together a
long the time. The Spurs are a younger team, like,
you know, it's stuff that you expect. But really, I mean,
that's the big stark difference. It comes down to an
alternate possession game. I know, I know what the Knicks
are going to do, and they have confidence going.
Speaker 3 (45:53):
We're not.
Speaker 1 (45:54):
We're not playing slow when it comes down to the
end of a game, We're not. We know what's gonna happen.
Where the spurs do we God, do we try to
jam jam it into Wemby? Do we try to what
do we do? Like they don't have that? We get
him back to the basket, get him down low where
he's not playing point guard up at the top of
the heat. The other thing I have to say is
there's one more MVP we haven't acknowledged. Sure, Brunson's dad,

we did.

Whoever was the equipment guy or Brunson himself who decided
after the injury that he had to change his shoe

video making the rounds with Brunson and Josh Hart. This
other video is making the rounds tight shirt we got it.

But this last couple of minutes, the Spurs looked like
they were on vapors. They looked exhausted. Wemby shot to
hitting the top of the backboard. The Spurs really did
not look like they had anything going on. The Knicks
had a six point lead, but Jalen Brunson misses another
bad miss, Champennie goes to the free throw line for

a couple and now Wemby going for a free throw
to make it a one point game with three and
a half left to go in the fourth quarter. I
felt like the Knicks really had a chance there to
finish the Spurs. They had a really wobbly couple of
minutes and there when it looked like they were spent
because they're exhausted. And this is the time when I thought,
this is what the Knicks need to do. You get
to the fourth quarter at the end when it's close,
(02:02):
execute like you've done all season long. Because the Spurs
are going to be exhausted. Well, they have it exactly
where they want it right now, one point game with
three minutes left to go, and the Spurs look exhausted
and they need to make shots. Jalen Brunson was on
a heater. He had eight points in a row. Now
he's missed his last three and now the Spurs can
actually take the lead with a bucket coming down floor.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
And that was another one of those shots.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
He got his space, got his look square up just
inside the free throw line and missed it. But we
finally saw a little bit of the aggression from Wehm
Binyama we and multiple possessions for the Spurs where he
was getting bodied and where normally you'd expect a fall call,
no foul call. Frustrated, then had that weird looking three
point shot that hit the top of the backboard. If

that would have banked in, that would have made Duncan
and Robinson proud.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
Yeah, I can tell you that.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
But then he had that frustration drive on cat like
you said, got some extra body into him, did get
the fall call to the line. And here we said
at one point game, coming up on two minutes, Wemby
going to the free throw line again. Apparently Wemby's just
gonna go every other time down the floor. So a
little over two minutes left to go, Wemby at the
line could give the Spurs the lead. Right now again,

ninety four to ninety three lead for the Knicks with
two and a half to go in the fourth quarter. Now, meanwhile,
what we just saw a couple moments ago was absolutely insane,
and we have a little more details on and now, boy,
the picture going around is crazy. It was a little
bit less than ten minutes ago in real time, a

fan ran on the court.

In the middle of play and.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Stopped at the right about at the free throw line
and wanted to take a selfie of himself. This guy
runs on the floor, he's laughing, he's got his camera. No,
I don't know if there's gonna be video, because I'll
tell you what when it goes put online, this is
gonna be one hell of a selfie. He runs to
the free throw line and it's like he's trying to
take a selfie of himself with Wemby behind him. Security
runs out, one guy comes from behind, one guy comes

from under the basket, grabs him and pulls him off.
But the Frostburg just sent me a screen grab of
the guy taking the selfie, and it looks like Wemby
is smiling. But no, I don't know if he's smiling
because here's a guy that's come on the floor to
take a selfie, or if he's going, oh, i'll give you.

Because soccer matches, right, because we've seen plenty of stars

A reversal of fortune in San Antonio. After Wemby free
throws have given the Spurs a one point lead, Jalen
Brunson hits a three from the corner for a two
point lead for the Knicks. They're able to halt them defensively,
and now mcal bridges at the free throw line for two.

He has made them both. It is a ninety nine
to ninety five lead for the Knicks with about a
minute left to go in regulation. This is a game
that started out. Each team had runs, the Knicks reeled
them in. It's been great back and forth. It's been
incredible theater. And this is just game one. It's just yeah,
we've still got a minute left to go. But it
(06:31):
has been some kind of fun up and down play.
It's exactly what the NBA wants. You have the Knicks
playing to their level. You have Wemby who has been
playing terrific and trying to take over in the last
couple of minutes. And so this is the NBA is
gonna say, Okay, we got what we want right now.
No one's talking about tanking now. He turned into the
Hulk a little too late, at least at this point.

Tweeted the night Elmo hopes both teams have fun or basketballs.
A guy named Evan responded with you live in New
York City, trader, so he had that Oh Jalen Brunson, Wow, okay, sorry,
here's what just happened. Cheering in the press box, Wemby
turns it over badly in the front court by the Spurs.

He was I don't know if he was gonna look
like he was gonna try to dribble back and take
a three, but Wemby turns it over. The Knicks go
down and Jalen Brunson hits a shot to make it
a one oh one ninety five lead. They also have
the basketball as Wemby has missed a three, so it's
a six point Nick lead with twenty nine seconds left.

Justin we were saying great things about wem Baby. That
was a bad turnover. It was it was an unforced error.
He just like looks like he lost control, looks like
he was trying to pull his dribble back and the
ball gets knocked out. Josh Hart picks it up, the
Knicks get in for a hoop by Jalen Brunson and
now Ogian Unobi at the free throw line. He has
made the first of two. A seven point lead. Now
for the Knicks with thirty seconds left to go, starting
(08:00):
to celebrate. Adam Silver is still excited because well we
got both superstars, got hurt and stayed in the game.
Not quite the Willis Reid moment. But Jalen Brunson, remember
all that time ago, if we hit the rewind, left
the game, knee hobbled, went to the locker room, sat
on the bench for the first four plus minutes of
(08:21):
the second quarter, and then he's put them on his
back here in the fourth quarter, as we've seen so
many times during the regular season and into these playoffs.
Twenty seconds left to go, it's a one oh three
ninety five lead for the Knicks. Ball out of bounds
to the Spurs again. Twenty seconds left and the Knicks
(08:42):
are that much away from a one game to none
lead in the NBA Finals. Nick Fans who made the
tripper going nuts. Tracy Morgan is going crazy. Look gonna
be another bad day for the Jalen Brunson's too small,
not good enough to lead a team to a championship.
That hoop he just scored, trying to draw the foul,
and I don't know why he's trying to draw the foul.
(09:04):
They're not going to put him at the free throw
line and not putting anybody else in the line besides
Wemby still is able to hit that tough jumper, that
ten to fifteen foot jumper, that he has become the
best guy in the league at hitting. You know KD
had that for a few years. The mid range jumper
was his the lost art was always fun to see.
No one hits that jumper like Jalen Brunson. Despite a
(09:24):
bad night shooting, he now has thirty points and the
Knicks are twenty seconds away from a one game to
none lead. Mike Harmon, The Knicks are twenty seconds away
game one, long series to come, but a huge effort
here fourth quarter Brunson again the scare of the knee,
but odd running ragged right, He's finding open spots. And
(09:46):
even when he had that little cold streak, wasn't that
the Spurs were able to really come back and surmount
much of an effort. The Aaron Fox has had another
invisible game. Calden Johnson struggled as he did much of
the last series, and when Bin Yama you called for
him to be the incredible Hulk a couple of weeks ago.
He showed up at in different spots during that Thunder series.

Here passive, frustrated. Good job by Cat, good job by
Mitchell Robinson, bodying him up left and right. Here was
as we're watching a review and I think a challenge
on the play. Aaron Fox had an open land on
bridges for a layup, decided to throw it to the
corner and your guy Landry Shammitt.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
Yeah, it's under review.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
It looked like it was off of Shammitt when that's
why I said ball at a bounce of the spurs.
But replay looks like it might have gone off Champenny's hand.
So now they're looking at it. Right now, the play
is under review. This would now be nix ball with
twenty seconds to go in an eight point lead, so
they're looking at it. The angle they just showed really
made it look like it was off the spurs. But again,

you know, hey, who knows simultaneous Foster is officiating this game.

It might have an extra angle, know, but Champagney for
that to that point, he's five of ten from the field,
five of nine from three. He's got one point in
the second half. Yeah, right, he's been absolutely invisible. The
Knicks give them credit, only eight turnovers in the game.
They've done a great job of keeping control, keeping their composure,
and even with some of those bad shot selection, you

know you're you're getting good work on the glass, and again,
Karl Anthony Towns. For all all Brunson's fourth quarter was amazing,
but Karl Anthony Towns is the tale of the tape.
He has the best way both offensively and defensively. This
you could say it's the Karl Anthony Towns.

So that's it.

The defensive amazing aren't going to show in the in
the box score. That's the thing, right, You're gonna look
at Wemby's Wemby's shooting percentage and just say, wow, he
had an off night. He took a nine to three pointers.
He's six of twenty one, twelve to thirteen from the
foul line. But what Karl Anthony Towns did as a
as a primary defenser and just being an agitator, And

that's the thing we've seen with Wemby times, just like
Jokic earlier in that series against Minnesota, there's just a
point where he gets a little out of himself.

But the funny thing is you talk, Okay, Wenby's not shot, well,
brun'side shot Well, you know who's shot well in this game?

at thirty six percent. Outside of Champagne, who hit all
his shots in the first half, he is scoreless or
he has one point in the second half. He was
five of six from the floor in the first half,
oh for four in the second half.

Nobody has shot well that.

This has been a one of those typical finals games
where Okay, you have a layoff for the Knicks for
a little while, you have the Spurs trying to come
back emotionally to try to uh, you know, try to
get game one, and it's become a bit of a fight,
and it's been a slog fest, and it looks like
the Knicks are going to come through here. The ball
on review was viewed to be off of the Spurs.

So the Knicks are going to the free throw line
up by eight with twenty seconds left to go and
a couple of free throws. That's gonna salt this thing away.
Look at you, I'm kids, Oh how excited I am?
Spurs scream I want to scream. I'm just just let
it out. Back away from the microphone so you don't
blow my ears. So excited because whenever I plug in here,
right we all need to have annual hearing tests added

to our are our things. But yeah, to your point,
these shooting percentages are awful. You look at the Spurs
for the game, sixteen assists on their thirty two makes
against twelve turnovers, whereby you've got the Knicks twenty assists
against eight turnovers, eight steals on the game. So one
oh five ninety five is the Knicks lead after two

free throws by Og and Unobi, and the Knicks are
gonna dribble this one out.

The Knicks win it by double digits, one oh five

Jalen Brunson had words with somebody. I looked at the
scorers table, hard to tell who it was, but he

back and look and see that again. They haven't shown
a replay yet. Obviously they're you know, they're cutting around
different things, interviews with different players. It looked like he
definitely had something to say to somebody, don't know who
it was, don't know what, but a little chippy way
to end game one of the NBA Finals. Yeah, you

got an idiot running on the quarter earlier, he got
some chippiness, a lot of back and forth, a lot
of yelling at the officials and Scott Foster's crew over
the course of the night trying to figure out what
they were watching in and EBB, and a flow of
this game.

Yeah, a little little odd moment as he goes to
do the postgame interview, but fourth quarter, Brunson front and

the Knicks Game one winning the NBA Finals, it is

I'm actually off tomorrow, which is kind of funny. Look,
it's like we said last night, here's gonna be. Here's
how Game one is going to go. The Knicks are
going to stay close, the Spurs are going to be
exhausted in the fourth quarter, and the Knicks are going
to take over, which is what they've done all season long.
And that's exactly what happened. You could see, I mean
Wemby's jumpers are hitting the top of the backboard. You
(20:22):
could see that they just all of a sudden that
gas tank got to e and the Knicks were able
to pull away in another double digit win for the Knicks.
Speaker 8 (20:30):
Yeah, I thought it was certainly they out executed.
Speaker 4 (20:33):
The Knicks did executed.
Speaker 8 (20:35):
The Spurs down the stretch, turnovers by the Aaron Fox
by Wemby, partly.
Speaker 4 (20:41):
In fatigue for sure. I also think just sort.
Speaker 8 (20:44):
Of inexperience in the moment they played, and it's been
an issue with them even in the Oklahoma City Series
where they just play too fast at times.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
And I've said it.
Speaker 8 (20:56):
I've said it throughout the Thunder series, Like when you
get to this stage of the playoffs, it's not always
about just making the electric play. Sometimes it's just about
not beating yourself and giving yourself a chance.

And ultimately, you know, if.
Speaker 8 (21:14):
You saw the Knicks down the stretch, it wasn't like
they were making every shot, but they were getting a
shot every time.
Speaker 4 (21:21):
And when you get a shot, at least you have
the opportunity to get back and defend.

And ultimately that made the difference in terms.

Of the execution and so and then you.

Know, let's let's face it, you got Jalen Brunson, proven closer.
Who is the closer for the San Antonio Spurs. My
money would be on Dylan Harper, but you're talking about
a rookie and or Victor Weinbanyama, a big man who
you it's a little bit of a struggle to get

him the ball in places that he can be effective.
So certainly there's there's certain things that the nick have
an edge in and they came to four in this
particular game. I think we're going to have a great series.

I'm still not.
Speaker 8 (22:11):
I went into it thinking the Spurs were going to win,
but that the Knicks had a chance, and a bigger
chance than most people were giving them. I'm going to
stick with that for now. I need to see I
need to see another game, simply because san Antonio has
been so good at making adjustments and learning from their
mistakes in short order, and they've got a few mistakes
(22:31):
that they need to learn from.

One of the things we pride ourselves on the show
is being ahead of the curve and being first to
say it. So let me start throwing flowers in the
general defensive effort that we got in that direction for
Karl Anthony Towns things that have never been said on
national radio before.
Speaker 4 (22:50):
No, I mean, he's still kind of goofy.
Speaker 9 (22:52):
Right, Yeah, after he took the elbow or he took
the shoulder to the chest in the final minutes from
Wemby and he's laying down, it was just gesticulation or suggesters,
I'm like, what is he doing right now?
Speaker 4 (23:05):
Like? But but that said, you know, I think it's
probably the.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
Best game of his career. I mean, not only offensively,
eighteen twelve and four assists and what he did because
Wenby was what what two for eleven something like that
with as a primary.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
Defender, like this is the game, this is the best
game of his career that he's had.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (23:26):
Well, and I've said it all year, what my feeling
is is that that Carl has been His numbers haven't
been as as good or as as robust as they
were in Minnesota or at other times even as a
nick but but he's been more efficient and he's been
willing to play that secondary role. And Jalen said something
(23:49):
afterward about how he felt that sort of their chemistry
and having each other's back was what carried them through
this game.
Speaker 4 (23:56):
And I really think that that's one.
Speaker 8 (23:57):
Of the the under lying or the underrated elements about
this team, because there was so much talk at the
beginning of the year about it being a fractured team,
about guys struggling with their roles about and what I've
seen down the stretch is a team that's come together
(24:17):
and has come.
Speaker 4 (24:17):
To understand who and what they are and.
Speaker 8 (24:21):
And what everybody the role that everybody has to play,
and the hierarchy is built. And that's what I really
loved about sort of watching these two teams right now.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Is that you don't get.
Speaker 10 (24:32):
You know, there's some teams usually when they have a
James Harden on them, where there's there's a there's a
battle of who's supposed to be taking the shot and
what are we supposed to be doing.
Speaker 4 (24:43):
In a given situation.
Speaker 8 (24:45):
And I think with both of these teams, everybody's committed
to the game plan and uh and Karl Anthony Towns included.
Speaker 4 (24:53):
And I don't know how many times we've felt that
way about about.
Speaker 8 (24:56):
Towns and that he was all in for doing what
he needed to do in order for the team to win,
as opposed to doing everything that he thought he should
be doing in order for the team to win.
Speaker 4 (25:06):
There's a difference there, but there's a big one and it's.
Speaker 8 (25:09):
Probably one of the biggest reasons why the Knicks are
in the finals in up one.
Speaker 1 (25:13):
L go ahead, Jesse, if you could put a finger
on because I have my thoughts, I kind of think
it's more of a Over the course of the last
month of the regular season, defensively, the Knicks really started
to get it.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
And you wouldn't look.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
At the floor and say, boy, you can't play Brunston
and Karl Anthony Towns together anymore. So it took him
a while, but the last month they started to get it.
When Karl Anthony Towns became more facilitator, that really opened
up the offense. It's one of those things where it's
a late breaking phenomenon, but it's still something that happened
over over a period of time where you could see
where the Knicks were with a month ago in the
(25:47):
regular season and then basically after Game three against the Hawks.
Speaker 4 (25:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (25:51):
No, and when you have you know, when you have success,
when you have positive results, that gets everybody buying into
what needs to be done. And let's face it, the Knicks,
when you look at all the guys on the team
and all they've been through, it reminds me a little
(26:12):
bit of the Boston Celtics when they brought Kevin Garnett
and Ray Allen and.
Speaker 4 (26:17):
Paul Pierce together.
Speaker 8 (26:18):
It's guys who've been around the league long enough to
know that your opportunities to go win a ring are
few and far between. Young guys, you know, the Anthony
Edwards in the league, think ah, you know I've got time,
I'm going to get one. And then you get guys
that have been around for a minute, like a Josh
Hart and have been in a couple of different places,
and they realize, man, we may never get.
Speaker 4 (26:39):
This chance again.
Speaker 8 (26:41):
And so it results in guys being willing to make
sacrifices and having a focus and putting what the team
needs first, that being.
Speaker 4 (26:52):
Defense as well as you can play it.
Speaker 8 (26:54):
Even if you're not a great defender, give me the effort,
don't quit on plays, do what you can, and let's
see if we're good enough.
Speaker 4 (27:03):
And I think that's that's the mindset of the Knicks.
It also helped that there was probably what Mike, what
would you say?
Speaker 8 (27:10):
I would say probably at least five thousand Jason Smith's
in the building.

Like say, they always show up. They show up more
than the Knicks over the past couple of decades, but

Now, what the question I have is why do they
always show up and they look like they're dressed exactly
the way they would if they were taking the subwave
and they're unshaven.

But what was interesting watching, uh, you know Jason here,
I wish I had another camera on him here in
the studio from like the side of watching his eyes
get wide with each big shot or recoil a little bit.
If we put a heart monitor on him, it might
have been really extra extra century viewing here for us
ring oh Man, next level star. I'll tell you I

I felt odd and weird all day and and it
really hit. It's it's uh its peak. Honestly, when Wemby
just turned it over it with with a minute left
to go and they're down for it, he's got and
he just it's an unforced error.

And Brunson hits that incredible lean in, lean back, and
I don't know why he's.

Leaning in for contact. They weren't putting it the free
throw line.

He hits that shot, it's a six point lead, and
that that was when I said, this is going this
is going our way, Like all of a sudden, I'm
thinking Wemby's going to hit a three. Wenby's gonna get
to the free throw line, and he just biffs it.
And I was it was stunning when I saw that happen,
and I said, oh my god, we're gonna win.

We're gonna win. When I saw that ball on the ground,
and heart picks up, so we're gonna win. We're gonna
win this game.
Speaker 8 (29:06):
It probably would have been the It probably was the
exact opposite feeling of when Wemby came down and hit
that three over Mitchell Robinson.

You're like, oh no, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (29:15):
No, I've seen this. I've seen this movie before. Yeah no.
Speaker 8 (29:20):
But I mean I think that was an example like
I don't I don't want Wemby with the game on
the line.

Him trying to cross over Mitchell Robinson at the three
point line because and I get this is what I
mean about not beating yourself, Like because if you do,
if you don't get it there, or if he does
turn the ball over and he's a seven to five guy,
I mean you can he dribbles low for a tall guy,

the opportunity for something to go wrong and for that
to be a live ball going the other direction is
just too great, Like you need to play more of fishing,
thoughtful basketball in those situations. And it's what I love
about about Wemby at this stage.

First time he's in the finals, he's pulling up and
shooting threes, no problem.
Speaker 8 (30:11):
With you know, in a critical situation he's looking to
cross somebody over at thirty feet. But ultimately it's experience.
Speaker 4 (30:21):
Tells you this is not the shot we want.

I mean, you looked at Jalen Brunson and was where
he was going and.

What he was trying to get.

He was still his same methodical self in looking for
his shots and getting to his spots, and ultimately that
made the difference.

We talk on believable and the Knicks going up one
zip over the Spurs. We talked about Carl Anthony Towns
last hour. He's the reason why this has won nothing.
This was the best game of Karl Anthony Towns' career
right both ends of the court. Defensively, what he did
to Wemby offensively, being being the facilitator, being the second
(39:23):
scorer they needed eighteen twelve and six. He was terrific.
The Knicks win this game and they pull away because
Jalen Brunson does Jalen Brunson things.
Speaker 3 (39:33):
The end of the game. He's clutch. Again.
Speaker 1 (39:36):
I don't know that there's a guy in the league
that hits more clutch shots, not more clutch free throws.
That would be SGA, But I don't know there's a
guy at the end of games because consistently he takes
all the shots right still, the way the offense opens up,
there's room for other guys. And because the offenses open
up more, it's harder to concentrate just on Brunson, whereas
even last year at this time it was okay, four
(39:57):
guys standing around and maybe Jalen bruns can get his
own shot and he makes it. It's make or miss league.
He makes it that great. Sometimes he misses, the Knicks
would blow a big lead. That's how it goes. But
I don't know that there's a guy that hits the
sheer number of clutch shots down the stretch in a
tight game that Brunson does. And he did it tonight
thirteen points in the fourth quarter. And you know, at
(40:18):
the end, and this is what I've talked about the
Knicks all season long, even going back to the beginning
of the year, I said, the last four minutes of
a game, nobody out executes the Knicks, right. They have
figured out a way offensively to make it where it's
not the team it was a year ago. No one's
going to out execute them because now it's a little
bit different offense. Brunson's one of the most clutch guys
(40:38):
in the game. You're not going to out execute the
Knicks in the final four minutes. And when you think
about that, you think about the huge advantage they have
over the Spurs, because, okay, at the end of a
game like this is a tie game basically over the
course of the last couple of minutes, Okay, So it's
Brunson against two right, Like, Okay, the Spurs are a
great team, right, great young team. Wemby, Castle, Harper, Fox, right, champion,
(41:03):
he made shots tonight. But okay, where's the ball going
when you need a basket? I know Jalen Brunt is
going to take the shot. And if Jalen Brunson gets
doubled or he's gonna find a way to find the
open guy, whether it's og Or Hart or Bridges or
Karl Anthony Towns. But who's going to do that for
the Spurs? Right when it comes down to a close
(41:24):
game and the Spurs need a bucket? Where are you
gonna go? Like you need to go? And and and
Rick Buker talked to us and saying, you know, the
thing is obviously Wemby is someone you want to give
him the ball to, but being a big, that's kind
of hard to do. Even if you're a skilled big
like Wemby, it's hard to go to Wemby, right, So okay,
so if it's not Wenby, it's a guy with the
ball in his hands, Like, is Daron Fox making all
these shots that Jalen Brunson is.
Speaker 3 (41:46):
He's not Dylan.
Speaker 1 (41:46):
Harper's terrific, right, And he was a guy I told
you last night, who was I scared of having a
big series?
Speaker 3 (41:50):
Dylan Harper? He had a huge game tonight, right?
Speaker 1 (41:52):
No, No, No, he had a huge start to the game,
a huge court in the fourth quarter, and if you
look at his shot charged for the fourth quarter, he
took his many and you and I did combined. So
obviously you know he's not gonna get the shots at
the end of the game. Is it gonna be champion? No,
because he had one shot in the second half. Who's
gonna take those shots? Who's gonna be that guy? When
(42:14):
it's a close game and the NBA is a man's game,
it comes down to this. These are big These are
big decisions. These are big possessions where the entire season
rests on what you can do, and when you have
somebody that you know is going to take those shots. Okay,
I mean going back to the Thunder series against the Spurs,
(42:34):
like SGA was the only guy that could take that. Okay, great,
but SGA's game is not quite what Brunson's game is.
When it comes to what Brunson has at his disposal,
Sga is either making that shot and or nobody else's.
So when SGA's thing is to get into the lane, well,
guess what with Wemby being Wemby, he had a tough
(42:57):
time the entire series shooting.

Right.
Speaker 1 (42:59):
So that's why I talk about the Thunder being a
great matchup for the Spurs, because, yeah, they don't have
that second score. There's nobody else where they can go
with the ball. You can just isolate on SGA, and
with Wemby being Wemby, you're gonna force him into bad shooting.
With the Knicks, Okay, you want to isolate on Jentlen Brunson,
there's other guys can make those shots. But still, you know,
when you come down to the end of the game,
you have clarity as to where the ball is gonna

go and how this offense is gonna run.

The other thing when you look at the Knicks construction
is you've got guys, and I'll just say it in
its basis terms, you got guys with a lot of
ass that'll clear ways from brunts and to fine lanes. Right,
He's a small guy, great body, control all of that stuff.
But without Mitchell without Cat, that lane gets cluttered real fast.

Those guys clear a lot of space for him, and
Oklahoma City didn't have that guy, right, and Jet's not
moving any bodies. I mean, Hartenstein is to a point,
but he doesn't live down in the low post the
same way and create those same types of opportunities SGA.
A lot of it was body control, get to the line,
all of that stuff when we look at where the
spurs are. Darren Fox has been a great disappointment. Like

I know he was hurt to start last series, but
he was invisible tonight, shot poorly and in the fourth quarter.
The ball's got to be in his hands. Wemby can't
be eighteen feet from the basket. And then okay, let
me try to drive against now four guys that are
gonna just impede my way to the basket, and you
don't have the same level of rebounding.

mixing and matching. But the fact that Dylan Harper wasn't
around for much of the second half and that Darren
Fox played so terribly. Now he played well in Game
seven when you needed him. Keldon Johnson played well in
Game seven. They both were useless from a tactical standpoint tonight.
Both kind of shrunk away in the moment, allowing Jalen

Brunson to have one of those New York minutes once again. Look,
the Knicks seemed to be more in sync with each other,
which surprisers are right. I mean, they've been together a
long the time. The Spurs are a younger team, like,
you know, it's stuff that you expect. But really, I mean,
that's the big stark difference. It comes down to an
alternate possession game. I know, I know what the Knicks
are going to do, and they have confidence going.
