So the Big Twelve Conference is preparing to announce one
of the most sweeping conference sponsorship agreements in college sports history.
They finalized a multi year deal with Monster Energy worth
around twenty million dollars annually to make the company the
entitlement partner of the Big Twelve Football and then men,
Men's and women's basketball regular seasons as well. So it's

gonna kind of include two things. One of those things
is going to be a jersey patch that all players
are gonna have to wear from New York Ergy.

And then the other is that the conference itself is

I was very disappointed with the Dodgers name in the

how I was. Tiger Stadium was Tiger Stadium, and obviously
co America Park and at least it's been that now

like Tiger Stadium was that, then they moved on to.

They built something else that's different.

some of the things of sports great, the legacies, the
landmarks that you know that you can pinpoint, that you identify,
like you'd be growing up in another city, another state,
and you knew the feeling the blank, you knew the
Rose Bowl. You know, you're all the way in Michigan,
and for me, like you knew these places, that is
a big dealivering here, let's call it what it is.

People were accustomed to Staple Center. They still call a
lot of people still call it Staple Center. I'm surprised
you didn't say it's no time, that's Stay Bowls.

To my point is people everybody's like, wait, what is
statement now? Now it's crypto and had to get used
to that, and I think it just you lose something
with that. And here's what you know what they say

station locally here somebody.

That, that to me is another side of recession when
they're just selling out the whole okay, and just give
us some money Monster Energy, Big twelve.

ten and the SEC takeover because they're the dominating force.
You let me tell you what conference you couldn't get

That's and that's a sign of the recession. How many
sign how many teams doing the Big twelve? Ian You
gotta remember the twenty million is separate.

It's just like a million and a half. It ain't
like just paying your nil bill. You gotta have some
donors that could be like, hey, all this looks bad.

Sixteen teams in the Big twelve, sixteen teams whatever a million,
one million and fifty, Yeah, here you go, here you go,
and you know, once do they get taxed?

For that, because now you're looking at like seven hundred thousands.

I just real that's bad to sell. The name of
your conference is where are we?
Speaker 4 (08:36):
You're getting closer robed to the Big ten SEC takeover.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
I'm serious.

This shows me how tight it is, how bad, how
down bad they are. They're desperate for any kind of money,
will even take twenty million for sixteen teams. And this
is just showing me the SEC and the Big ten
are getting closer and closer to complete dominance where you
either get down or lay down.

You either join us or you're you know.

Or you're gonna it's gonna end up being these two
conferences battling out for the title. And I know it
sounds crazy, but so many things happen over the you know,
over course of decades where you would have said that
that's never gonna happen. Shoot, you can go back far.
And now they say it ain't not gonna be no
black guys playing baseball, you know what I mean? Like
you never know? And I think we're getting closer and
closer to where it's gonna be. If you're not in
the Big ten at SEC, it doesn't even matter. But

but but this is because clearly desperation for money.

But but even even the Dodgers with all the money,
Like the Dodgers even knew we can't rename Dodger Stadium.
So they came with this side.

all of these patches on it, like they held out

Who and and then what's crazy is they don't sell
the uniforms like that because they know fans wouldn't buy it.
So even they know it and they would they still
would wear all of these crazy things. And what are

know what company that is. You know, like Miami might
have had waste management on the heat or whatever it was,

or is that Indiana Pacer one of them, Yeah, waste management.
It just seems like like like it's red Bull, is
it it might be red bulling and I couldn't see
looks like rays have nobody showed up to the game.

Seventeen strikeouts back to back nights. What the heck? Rob,
I don't know how many they have the night, but
they won one. Get one of the two games.

had that many tonight? He said, Hey, I know we
had it last night. I didn't feel like it tonight.

But anyway, my point is what every is everything for saying,
now the fan, are you cool with it?

I just think when I think of like the ballpark
talked about in San Francisco, that's not Oracle. Yeah, it
was packed Bell when they opened it. That's what I
still call it, pack Bell. And then it went to
a T and T and the it was at and
T part and now it's Oracle like like it's had
three in uh Houston that that place has at least

three names, maybe four.

Like as a fan, I just think it's awful. We
just get used to having those things.

You lean on the things that's familiarity with a team,
like the team logo or you know, obviously the name
of a team. You know, you know you don't typically
like the Dodgers have been the Dodgers for eons, Like
there's not all of a sudden that's just change it up.

And become the La Knights, you know what I mean.

You get used to the name of the team, the arena,
of the logo, the jersey kind of that's what it is.
It's a comfort field. That's my squad. I know what
it is. That's where I go to the ballpark and
changing it to me. We they say all money ain't
good money, and I just think we are getting to
a point where sports is getting to because it's getting
so bohemoth is so much. The money is huge in
sports really, as you know, I talk about the time,

so only thing making money in TV, you know, to
everybody else hemorhagry, you know. But but if you can
get you know, and even airing the games because you
got to spend so much. These these networks are spending
billions of dollars and they're like, we can't even barely
make money.

Contracts are crazy.

Every week we go, who's this guy is now making
fifty million dollars a year. So sports has just become huge,
and I think it becomes why not get an extra
couple of bucks?

just I'm so proud of the career he's had. And
you know, I ended up with a burning passion and
desire for the game of baseball because of it. So
it's been it's been quite the ride.

I grew up watching him as well. Do when you

Is he wearing the Hall of Fame is a tricky
one to answer, but I do, I think because look,
it's easy to have recency bias, especially you know, in
in sports, but as someone that has watched his career
from the very beginning, so many of those memories go

back to Detroit, you know, from five when he made
his debut on the fourth of July through twenty seventeen,
he basically had two separate Hall of Fame careers, which
is crazy to even think about, but you know, I
just I think it's so fitting to end his career
back in Detroit. And I know, at least to this point,

it has not gone near as the way he wanted,
but you know, there's still a chance he can get
back out on the mound.

This year.
Speaker 13 (30:35):
It's just so fitting to end back in Detroit where
it all began. And you know, I think about it
all the time, and I know Justin does as well.
I truly don't know what hat he'll wear into the
Hall of Fame, but it's a good it's a good
problem to.

Have, I know, while people would like it to be Detroit.
He won two World Series with the end.
Speaker 4 (30:57):
That's what I was saying, like, I mean, it's gonna
be hard now, and Ben, you know what I mean.

I know he started with the Tigers and he had
a great career there before moving on. Well, you know,
you cement your name once you win a championship, and
then he's won two there.
Speaker 13 (31:13):
Yeah, and you know in Detroit twenty eleven Cy Young
and MVP in that year. But then he goes to
Houston and kind of revitalized his whole career. Obviously twenty
seventeen the year he got traded over there and winning
his first one, but then in twenty nineteen to win
his Cy Young Award. Then to go through, at thirty
(31:36):
seven years old, his first ever major injury and have
to get Tommy John surgery at thirty seven. Do you
know how many people at that point were saying, uh,
time caught up with him. He's done. What a great
career he's had. And then at thirty nine to come
back and not just have a great year, to have
(31:56):
one of the greatest seasons for a starting pitcher ever
and to win another cy Young and another championship in
twenty twenty two. Yeah, it's tough to you know, it's recency.
Biases is a real thing. And I do think he's
had a career in two different parts, and he's definitely
more decorated in his Houston career.

Now, now you know, I vote for the Baseball Hall
of Fame.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
I think it's a layup that he'll make it into
the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
But the thing that's changed differently.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
I always had three magic numbers Ben three thousand hits,
five hundred home runs, and three hundred wins. Now what's
changed is it's hard, almost impossible to get three hundred
wins with the way pictures, elea and whatnot. So now
what works is the three thousand strikeouts, and everybody not
(32:46):
tainted by juice who has the three thousand strikeouts basically
are in the Hall of Fame. So that's the new
number for pitchers, So obviously Verlanda has that as well.
Do you agree with that considering that it's gonna be
hard for anybody at three hundred wins?
Speaker 14 (33:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (33:02):
Now, Rob, I'm not trying to put the pressure on
you here, the younger brother. There's no bias here. But
I do agree with you. I do think. Look, obviously,
I think my brother is a Hall of Famer, and
I think most everybody does. And and the numbers eighth
all time and strikeouts, he's going to be.

In the Hall of Fame. I don't even trying to
try to sell us on some you never know.
Speaker 13 (33:25):
No, what I'm trying to talk about is the is
the accolades, because I had an interesting conversation with John
Smoltz today a little while ago about it, and he said,
you know, as a baseball fan, it's kind of a
sad time because there's going to be a line in
the Hall of Fame, and and that line is going
to be drawn at Justin Berlander and Max Schur's are
(33:48):
getting in on just a longevity perspective, and and you know,
it's kind of as a baseball fan and and myself,
that is kind of a sad reality. But as a
younger brother to the guy it is.

It's cool to.
Speaker 13 (34:04):
Think about the fact that pitching has changed. The game
of baseball has changed. But for Justin to rack up
the number of innings and the number of wins and
the number of strikeouts, it is going to We're going
to look back in fifty years and there's going to
be a line of the in the Hall of Fame,
and that line's going to end with with Justin in
terms of a true workhorse in baseball. And I'm not
(34:26):
saying I want that. It's just the way the game
of baseball has trended. And you know it's it's both
sad as a baseball fan and cool as a younger brother.

Man, I tell you what you may not know. I
do some pre and post game here in LA with
the Dodgers. I get to sit around some of these
guys or Seize or No mar garci Park Doctro Willison
to hear them off camera talk about just the way
in which the game has changed and how you know
their signs that they're disappointing, like just keep the guy in.
We just talked about the other the other day, somebody
robbed of a perfect game.

so bohemoth is so much. The money is huge in

years older than me, and I came into this world
with him playing baseball, and I've never known a day
in this world where he's not a baseball player, you know,
and I'm thirty four now. It's pretty crazy, and I'm

just I'm so proud of the career he's had. And
you know, I ended up with a burning passion and
desire for the game of baseball because of it. So
it's been it's been quite the ride.

When you when you think of him.

You just told me, you know, told us you were
watching this Tiger game as well against the A's.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
You know, you may not know I'm actually I'm from Michigan.

I'm born and raised in at Albert you know, and
got to still got a crib in Detroit, and so
I grew up watching him as well. Do when you
think of him? Is that where home is for him?
If you pictured it? He goes in the Hall of Fame?
What jersey is at the astros?

Where do you picture him when you think of him?

I feel like that's a two part question.

Is he wearing the Hall of Fame is a tricky
one to answer, but I do, I think because look,
it's easy to have recency bias, especially you know, in
in sports, but as someone that has watched his career
from the very beginning, so many of those memories go

back to Detroit, you know, from five when he made
his debut on the fourth of July through twenty seventeen,
he basically had two separate Hall of Fame careers, which
is crazy to even think about, but you know, I
just I think it's so fitting to end his career
back in Detroit. And I know, at least to this point,

it has not gone near as the way he wanted,
but you know, there's still a chance he can get
back out on the mound.
Speaker 2 (30:35):
This year.
Speaker 13 (30:35):
It's just so fitting to end back in Detroit where
it all began. And you know, I think about it
all the time, and I know Justin does as well.
I truly don't know what hat he'll wear into the
Hall of Fame, but it's a good it's a good
problem to.

Have, I know, while people would like it to be Detroit.
He won two World Series with the end.
Speaker 4 (30:57):
That's what I was saying, like, I mean, it's gonna
be hard now, and Ben, you know what I mean.

I know he started with the Tigers and he had
a great career there before moving on. Well, you know,
you cement your name once you win a championship, and
then he's won two there.
Speaker 13 (31:13):
Yeah, and you know in Detroit twenty eleven Cy Young
and MVP in that year. But then he goes to
Houston and kind of revitalized his whole career. Obviously twenty
seventeen the year he got traded over there and winning
his first one, but then in twenty nineteen to win
his Cy Young Award. Then to go through, at thirty
(31:36):
seven years old, his first ever major injury and have
to get Tommy John surgery at thirty seven. Do you
know how many people at that point were saying, uh,
time caught up with him. He's done. What a great
career he's had. And then at thirty nine to come
back and not just have a great year, to have
(31:56):
one of the greatest seasons for a starting pitcher ever
and to win another cy Young and another championship in
twenty twenty two. Yeah, it's tough to you know, it's recency.
Biases is a real thing. And I do think he's
had a career in two different parts, and he's definitely
more decorated in his Houston career.
Speaker 2 (32:17):
Now, now you know, I vote for the Baseball Hall
of Fame.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
I think it's a layup that he'll make it into
the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
But the thing that's changed differently.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
I always had three magic numbers Ben three thousand hits,
five hundred home runs, and three hundred wins. Now what's
changed is it's hard, almost impossible to get three hundred
wins with the way pictures, elea and whatnot. So now
what works is the three thousand strikeouts, and everybody not
(32:46):
tainted by juice who has the three thousand strikeouts basically
are in the Hall of Fame. So that's the new
number for pitchers, So obviously Verlanda has that as well.
Do you agree with that considering that it's gonna be
hard for anybody at three hundred wins?
Speaker 14 (33:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (33:02):
Now, Rob, I'm not trying to put the pressure on
you here, the younger brother. There's no bias here. But
I do agree with you. I do think. Look, obviously,
I think my brother is a Hall of Famer, and
I think most everybody does. And and the numbers eighth
all time and strikeouts, he's going to be.

In the Hall of Fame. I don't even trying to
try to sell us on some you never know.
Speaker 13 (33:25):
No, what I'm trying to talk about is the is
the accolades, because I had an interesting conversation with John
Smoltz today a little while ago about it, and he said,
you know, as a baseball fan, it's kind of a
sad time because there's going to be a line in
the Hall of Fame, and and that line is going
to be drawn at Justin Berlander and Max Schur's are
(33:48):
getting in on just a longevity perspective, and and you know,
it's kind of as a baseball fan and and myself,
that is kind of a sad reality. But as a
younger brother to the guy it is.
Speaker 14 (34:02):
It's cool to.
Speaker 13 (34:04):
Think about the fact that pitching has changed. The game
of baseball has changed. But for Justin to rack up
the number of innings and the number of wins and
the number of strikeouts, it is going to We're going
to look back in fifty years and there's going to
be a line of the in the Hall of Fame,
and that line's going to end with with Justin in
terms of a true workhorse in baseball. And I'm not
(34:26):
saying I want that. It's just the way the game
of baseball has trended. And you know it's it's both
sad as a baseball fan and cool as a younger brother.

Yeah.
Speaker 4 (34:35):
Man, I tell you what you may not know. I
do some pre and post game here in LA with
the Dodgers. I get to sit around some of these
guys or Seize or No mar garci Park Doctro Willison
to hear them off camera talk about just the way
in which the game has changed and how you know
their signs that they're disappointing, like just keep the guy in.
We just talked about the other the other day, somebody
robbed of a perfect game.

He's got eighty two pitches or whatever, ninety two pitches,
just like, what are we doing right now? So you
