Uh, with the announcement of the they have a Hall
of Game class from a player and I'm getting an

And I want to say this, you know, a lot
of good stuff has happened to me, and you know
that that meant so much to me. It really really

part of the fabric of baseball, and for the Negro

League's Baseball Museum to say, hey, that was innovative, it
was much needed and we want to honor you. So
the big date is September twenty sixth, a Saturday night
in Kansas City, a big presentation, so I'm thrilled.

And because of that, we're going to have Bob Kendrick,
who was the.

President of the Negro League's Baseball Museum, later on in
this first hour, he'll tell us all about who else
is getting in the former players, and if you want

history and how great we were and how we didn't
get a chance to play for so long, so we
started our own thing dominated there and then of course
obviously gotten too the league and have been dominating there
as well. But we got to make sure it's important

I mean listen for those who just wanted any similars
of football, any football action, wanted to you know, have
that like oo football field, Well you got it, and
you got it in a surprisingly you know, good game.
The Carolina Panthers beat the Arizona Cardinals thirty three thirty
on the last second drive there from the Panthers.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
Their rookie quarterback Haines King.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
Haines King, I liked that name, ran it all the
way into the end zone to win that game. He
had one hundred and eighty yards, a couple of touchdowns.
Looked good, thirty nine rushing yards. Can he pick ittt
looked pretty solid and it start as well.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
Will not tell you need to know? Is that Kenny?
You can look.
Speaker 5 (09:35):
You already know about that house, so you can discount
the whole thing.
Speaker 4 (09:38):

And then big other conversation was rookie quarterback Carson Beck
obviously a big pick and a lot of people looking
at him, and Cardinals got rid of Kyler Murray like
this is supposed to be their franchise moving forward.

He he looked good.

Fifteen to nineteen Rob Buck eighty eight touchdown.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
He had let on three scoring drives for them. He
played into the third quarter, so good look for him.

But the walk away the conversation really is surprisingly a
lot of people like you.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
Know how it goes. I didn't.

Nobody was really texting about it. I didn't really get
too many crazy ooh you're seeing this. And the conversation becomes,
where are you with the preseason you in you're excited
just to take any little like I said, similars of football,
does it matter to you for you the teams? Or
is it a kind of a waste of our time
and effort.

I'm out on preseason football.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
I'm sorry the coaches are out on preseason football. Go
look at the Rams and these other teams where they
don't play their players.
Speaker 5 (10:35):
They don't even care.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
So if they don't care, and you could have a
regular season, and if the Rams are the favorite and
they're not playing their people, why in the world would
I care. I don't care. It doesn't mean that I
can't watch the highlights or we need to talk about
it or something. But I'm telling am I invested in it.
Am I gonna break my neck to watch preseason football.
(11:00):
I don't know, Kelvin. I've been covering the NFL since
nineteen eighty seven. I've been to plenty of preseason games
and they all boring. Football is a great, exciting game.
Preseason football is awful. No thanks, No, Moss not interested.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
I'm just not.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
It doesn't move the needle for me. And the only
people who have really got their eye on it. If
you're betting, if you bet last night, and if you're
in the gambling, they might have bet it last night
because they just want some action.
Speaker 5 (11:32):
They can't wait for the season to start.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
But Kevin, I you know, if you take something away
from it and you want to tell me that Kenny
Pickett now is a viable quarterback because you had a
great preseason game, or buy into any of that, I
just can't.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
No, I'm not big on preseason In fact, increasingly less.
I think when I was younger, you know, you're just again,
it was like you're cracked out right. I just take anything,
give me any football. But now again with obviously life
he grows old. I got, you know, life and kids
and jobs and all that. It's like, all right, I'll
catch in and check in in a little bit. And
I think also, Rob, we have too much evidence over
the years where teams used to go back when it
(12:08):
was remember it was four preseason games, and teams would
go four and oh and you're like, oh shoot, and
then it's the Lions and they ended up not winning anything.
Speaker 5 (12:17):
I would know why.
Speaker 4 (12:17):
I said, you had the lines with four and oh and.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
They went only sixteen age Yeah whatever, Rob, I know, Okay,
I know.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
So you see that, and then you see some teams
go on four and there and dag there and you know,
the super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (12:28):
So I don't take too much stock.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
I get the I get the desire to get your
big rookies in there, to get some young guys maybe
first year, second year guys, or even new maybe if
you got a new player that's young, and you want
to get am acclimate to get them some game, you know,
live bullets if you will.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
Totally get that.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
But overall, I think increasingly less we're gonna see guys
starting their starters playing, big time players playing because.
Speaker 4 (12:53):
It's a long season. Rob.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
We're now at seventeen weeks Dad going it. They're talking
about eighteen weeks before you know it, and I think
coaches are just saying, man, I got to have my
guys as healthy and as as ready for the regular
season as possible. Now, with that may come some rusty
week one in two games, right where teams get a
little more acclimated now later.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
Wouldn't you one hundred per right? So I think you're
gonna see.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
We've seen it over the last couple of years, teams
a little rusty, still working through the kinks. Offensive line
aren't quite as in sync as they normally would be.
I think you'll see that, and so, but I don't
pay much attention to it obviously. Uh you know, you
might get a game of the here too where a
starting group plays a couple of drives, and that'll be
fun to just see some bigger names. But for the

most part, I'm not into it, and you're not gonna
see that. And last point, the interesting thing about it,
Rob is We've talked about this the last couple of
years that I've been on this show. You know who
acts like it is the regular season NFL teams because
they're charging you parking like this regular season. They're charging
you prices to get in dag near like as regular season.
For preseason games, and they're acting and they looking at

as a great opportunity to get some regular home season
game money. Because boy, if you've ever been to a
preseason game, you are like, wait, I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (14:12):
How much is sparking seventy five? What you must be dollar? What?
Speaker 5 (14:16):
Everything? It's ridiculous for bad football and.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
Right, and so I'm you couldn't give me one hundred
dollars to go to a preseason game.
Speaker 4 (14:26):
I'm serious, like, I'm not.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
Knowing dedicating, I'm not that thirsty for it's coming away.

Here for exactly, I don't need it.

But as far as what you saw Carson Beck, listen,
all he can do is when the coach says, go play,
go play.

He looked very, very good.

A guy who we knew, you know, who had twenty twenty,
he had six years rob as a a college football player,
six years turned down going last year because he was like,
I'm about to get this nil money from Miami, so
I ain't going.

To the NFL yet.

So he looked after all that experience, it's all those starts,
all those big games.
Speaker 4 (15:02):
But you will hope for him if you're a Cardio fan.

He looked good. That's the best you can do. They
asked you to play, we'll go play. Well, so he
did that, Hansking as well. But I don't put too
much dot in at this juncture, all right?

but would you really pay unless you're forced to pay
like sometimes it's part of your season ticket package. When

I had season tickets for the barbershop in Detroit, they
used to make us buy the preseason games. We had
no choice if you wanted season tickets. But I would
never pay any money for a preseason game. We want

now back the year Pablo Tory ain't playing around. So
Pablo Tory finds out his podcast on the latest episode
there that apparently that aspiration deal that Kawhi was you know,
had allegedly isn't the only one. So scoreboard manufacturer Daktronics,

they built that one hundred million dollar video boards. By
the way, I still haven't been to the into a dome.
I know you've been there a handful of times.

The clip into it just spectacular, like.

Well, so the company that built all those screens in there,
and they had apparently hired Kawhi to a multimillion dollars
sponsorship deal for which he has done, of course, no work,
and that is according to pablotry.

And of course he has some sources.

One at a high level source set under contract four
into a dome went on to say that he's a
thousand percent sure that they were circumventing the salary cap
when it comes to this, So people with it, Yeah,
And they went on to say real quick that they're
not a company that you would see a celebrity endorser for.

It wasn't coming out on their end.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
The Clippers were technically kind of funding it, and it
was funneling money from the Clippers to Dektronics back to Kawhi.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
I'll let you start.

Yeah, you on this because you know where I'm going
to make my deal. You know where you are, and
you get where you are. My main issue is just
a little bit. The contrast that I think of where
you're going to go is if you're Adam Silver, and
the whole point of the collective bargaining agreement, right, you
get to the owners, you get the players, they all
come together and we all agree. You'll say, all right,
(21:00):
we all agree on this, this certain amount of money,
certain amount of dollars is what you have to spend.
Think it's like nearly two hundred million or whatever it is.
And here are the rules, here's what you can do,
here's what you can't do. And the point is to
make it fair for all teams that everybody's on the
up and up and they all have a chance to compete,
and so you have teams that are circumventing that. And
to me, this is where I have issue with Kawhi.
(21:21):
If this was just a scenario where he said, hey,
I'm Clippers, want to come back to LA and from Riverside,
which is you know, right outside of LA.

And it helped me out and I will figure it out.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
Let's get you there, and oh we all we got
this thing some endorsement, and Kawhi is just kind of oh,
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
He and Uncle.

Dennis, specifically Uncle Dennis when you go back to the Raptors,
try to pull this move off with the Raptors, and
the Raptors said, no, we love you, we want a
championship with you, we want you to extend the contracts,
stay with us, but we ain't doing those shady stuff.
And then for them to just go to LA and
not just go on the up and up. But say he, well,
come only if you signed a regular contract with the

NBA on the up and up, and then we do
some shady stuff where you get into the Aspiration deal.
And now we're finding out allegedly about this Daktronic deal.
So I feel Kawhi Leonard is absolutely responsible because if
uncle didn't representing you, you're all in. You go for this,
you sign on, you're getting the reaping the benefits for it.
It ain't had to do no work. Clearly you're a
part of it. Now. Clearly Steve Balmer is a part

of this as well, and he and the organization for
being the ones funneling the money, you know, going with this,
you know that's paying Aspiration again, this random company which
looks like it might have been a shell company, and
now Daktronics, which yeah, we built your screen, but you're
putting a little extra do in there so that we
can get into Kawhi for another sponsorship and endorsement, which
he ain't did nothing for. This is where a you
(22:40):
gotta make sure you levered the hammer if you're Adam Silver.
My last point, but and it's a big butt were
talking maybe NICKI Mina's CARDI be Mega style.

I want to say Boshiba, but but Shiba it ain't
hating it, Rob.

Steve Balmer is not about to get in crazy trouble.

can't keep this up. Baseball is very very It balances out.
I can't give you and say, what for sure they're
gonna lose and this and that. But I'm I just
I'm watching this and I can't figure it out when
teams win on this pace, that there's an evening out

But at some point it is just simply what it is,
and it's becomes all right, Well, this team has turned
it around, and this team has become good. And what
makes this interesting is how they're doing it. Rob they
ain't doing it because all of a sudden, the bats
are on fire. I mean, you look at it. They're
at the fourth worst runs per game. They're only averaging

four point one. None of it adds up.

It's the fifth worst that they've had since nineteen seventy three.
So the offense isn't doing it their last right now
in the American League in home runs.

So it's like playing at Fenway Park one hundred.

So what's going on is the pitching right now has
really stepped up for them, and so that's keeping them
in games that maybe they had no chance or no,
they shouldn't be in. Uh, and all of a sudden
they're able to do that. So you talked about it.
They won fifteen straight games in mid to late July.
That was a franchise record. And what they're on right
(35:46):
now is a great streak where they're all of a
sudden able to be they're sixty three and fifty one.

You mentioned they're they're three games.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
Behind the Yankees, a game behind the Yankees, I have
to say for the wildcard spot, few games behind the
Tampa Bay Rays, and they got something going. And it
reminds me of me sitting next to you back our
first year that fall watching the Tigers, where it just
kept not making sense.
Speaker 4 (36:10):
We kept going, well, no, they got okay, Well man, well.
Speaker 3 (36:12):
Yeah, that's well, you know that's when Cleveland won the division.
Why are you talking about when the time kept losing
and they lost like fifteen out of seven.
Speaker 4 (36:19):
No, No, that was last Now all last year, you
mean two years ago, now, two.
Speaker 1 (36:23):
Years ago when they got on fire and got into
the postseason, and everybody was like, oh, last year was
the other way right, yeah, exactly, And it was everybody
it was two years ago.

Go oh man. The Tigers are supposed to be as good.
It's not supposed to.

Get this run, and they were able to get it done,
getting the postseason and really brought some life to the city,
as you know. So I feel like the Red Sox
are just on this run right now where they're believing
they got a change of mojo. The pitcher is keeping
them in games, and you know how important that is
because you can steal games that you're not supposed to win.
And right now they got a good thing going. And
so shoot, I mean, ride this thing out. Any Yankees

With out Aaron Judge?

Right, No, no, no, and and and and the whole
idea is them being able to which is incredible when
you think about.

Considering that that you don't have not only him, you
don't have Stanton. There's been a lot of injuries, Cody Bellingers.

Out of the lineup. I mean there's three guys right.

Bats, huge bats from two of them, right You know
that that you would obviously need to try to make
a run for this. So I'm just looking at it
as if you're the Red Sox just say, hey, this
is we've We've rided the ship. We got something going.
You know, the Yankees aren't necessarily world beaters. Now, the
pitching has been good for the not to the last
last few they'll go rounds with Yankees, but the pitching

has been good for them as well. That's kind of
been what a lot of us, even you and I
talked about. What makes them think that if they get
in the postseason, they got a World Series.

Chance, they got three they got three great starters at
the time, I don't.

I don't look at any AL team for the most part,
I don't look at any of them as world beaters already,
Like you're your shook it, You're like, oh.

No, they're all teams have flawed. All the teams have flawed.

I agree with you, and the AL is open and again,
even the Red Sox is a lot of bad teams.
So people are saying well, they're just gobbling up all
these wins. They've bet some other good teams as well.
They just swept the White Sox, you know, and they
lead the division in the Central. But they've had their
own issues in the Central. If you look at the records,

like everybody over the last ten games are like under
five hundred. They're all playing poorly. It's something, and I don't.

Know, maybe it does.

It just feels like the other shoe is going to drop.
They got something, you got something going.

With you because we joke about it, we laugh about it,
but I also know we see this happen in sports
where we get on that. I mean, look at they're
twenty six and four since July first, twenty six for baseball,
that's ridiculous.

I told you. Yeah, they had that fifteen game winning streak.

I mean, and they've just they've got something going during
this that I've feel like for them. They bought it
opposite what we were saying about the Mets early on earlier,
Oh yeah, I don't know what's wrong with us. And
it was like, well no, it's like the first three
weeks of the season, it sounded like they mailed it
in then.

But what crazy is the Red Sox. They fired Cora.
You remember people were helping on, Oh what are you doing?
He's a great manager. And the Mets kept uh Calos
Mendoza and that didn't work out. The Phillies fired their
manager after they struggled early, right Rob Thompson, and guess what,

Don Maddley got that straightened out. It's just funny how
those teams look dead and buried and they made changes
at the manager's position and now they're off and running,
and the Mets didn't make a change, and obviously they're
off to it.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
Just an awful, just an awful. This has been a
bat two years Mets. You don't make the postseason when
you get Won Soto last year. This season has just
been abysmo like, it's just been rough for them. I
look at this too, you know, I always talk about
this when I sit there to the guys that sports
in La Jerry Harrison, Junior, Don Treill, Adrian Gonzalez, No,
Mark Garcia, par and the crew, and I get to
(40:09):
hear them and you know this, you cover the league,
you're on guys. Sometimes it's just good to hear these experts,
these playing former players, and like what they see. And
one of the things I've brought up many times with
you is that I always talk about man like the
game should be so much more simple. And right now
we talk it's just home run, a strikeout. And what
the Red Sox are doing right now they lead all
(40:29):
of baseball. They had thirteen sacrifice bunts since since July.
They got more than any other team. They're doing the
small ball station the station offense. They're not using the
power I told you the home runs where they're little.
You know, they're terrible when it comes to home runs,
and so they're just finding ways to kind.

Of small ball this thing.
Speaker 1 (40:50):
Just hey, just get the you know, advance a runner,
advance a base runner and get some point, you know,
get some runs. And it's working and depending on their pitching,
and we don't often see this. Right now, we know
the league has become where it's hall run or nothing,
you know, or or or a pitcher.

It's just amazing.
Speaker 4 (41:07):
And how long, like, like, why can't it be to
new them? Twenty six and four is crazy? Right?
Speaker 3 (41:11):
We sure like fifteen and three. I give you that,
we got six weeks to go. Really, this this is
they're gonna they're gonna run the table. They're not gonna
have a bad stretch during this with the low run
total and not hitting home runs and all that.
Speaker 1 (41:24):
I think the Bads into the earlier you know how
this goes. I think Dodgers are the Bats. They don't
have another one. They don't have another bad stretch coming
to Red Sox. Think there's relatively week if they lose
go six, one and six, that can alter where they are.
That's I mean, when you're when you're fighting an uphill battle, Yes,
you have no marginal era.

Because once you lose a few games, That's what I'm saying,
Like you put in all of his energy to try
to catch the Yankees and and and.

The the Rais and Rays, and then you have a
bad stretch.

And then I want to look at the the Yankee
schedule because just to kind of see, so the Yankees
play now the Braids is tough obviously, so that's gonna
be a tough series there. You're going to get one
of the best teams in the league. And then you
go to the Mariners. Uh, you got the Blue Jays
after that, Oilers Orioles Orioles. I say that to say,

I'm looking to see if you're the Red Sox, Like,
is there a run from the Yankees where they go
crazy and catch fire and you're just you know, you're
just too far behind. But I think this the Yankees
got a nice, little, you know, a little difficult run
coming up. So if you're the Red Sox, keep doing
what you're doing, keep trying to find ways to win.

was much needed and we want to honor you. So
the big date is September twenty sixth, a Saturday night

The Carolina Panthers beat the Arizona Cardinals thirty three thirty
on the last second drive there from the Panthers.

Their rookie quarterback Haines King.

Haines King, I liked that name, ran it all the
way into the end zone to win that game. He
had one hundred and eighty yards, a couple of touchdowns.
Looked good, thirty nine rushing yards. Can he pick ittt
looked pretty solid and it start as well.

the whole thing.

obviously a big pick and a lot of people looking
at him, and Cardinals got rid of Kyler Murray like
this is supposed to be their franchise moving forward.

He had let on three scoring drives for them. He
played into the third quarter, so good look for him.

But the walk away the conversation really is surprisingly a
lot of people like you.

Nobody was really texting about it. I didn't really get
too many crazy ooh you're seeing this. And the conversation becomes,
where are you with the preseason you in you're excited
just to take any little like I said, similars of football,
does it matter to you for you the teams? Or
is it a kind of a waste of our time
and effort.

I'm out on preseason football.

I'm sorry the coaches are out on preseason football. Go
look at the Rams and these other teams where they
don't play their players.

They don't even care.

So if they don't care, and you could have a
regular season, and if the Rams are the favorite and
they're not playing their people, why in the world would
I care. I don't care. It doesn't mean that I
can't watch the highlights or we need to talk about
it or something. But I'm telling am I invested in it.
Am I gonna break my neck to watch preseason football.

I don't know, Kelvin. I've been covering the NFL since
nineteen eighty seven. I've been to plenty of preseason games
and they all boring. Football is a great, exciting game.
Preseason football is awful. No thanks, No, Moss not interested.

I'm just not.

It doesn't move the needle for me. And the only
people who have really got their eye on it. If
you're betting, if you bet last night, and if you're
in the gambling, they might have bet it last night
because they just want some action.

They can't wait for the season to start.

But Kevin, I you know, if you take something away
from it and you want to tell me that Kenny
Pickett now is a viable quarterback because you had a
great preseason game, or buy into any of that, I
just can't.

No, I'm not big on preseason In fact, increasingly less.
I think when I was younger, you know, you're just again,
it was like you're cracked out right. I just take anything,
give me any football. But now again with obviously life
he grows old. I got, you know, life and kids
and jobs and all that. It's like, all right, I'll
catch in and check in in a little bit. And
I think also, Rob, we have too much evidence over
the years where teams used to go back when it
(12:08):
was remember it was four preseason games, and teams would
go four and oh and you're like, oh shoot, and
then it's the Lions and they ended up not winning anything.
Speaker 5 (12:17):
I would know why.
Speaker 4 (12:17):
I said, you had the lines with four and oh and.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
They went only sixteen age Yeah whatever, Rob, I know, Okay,
I know.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
So you see that, and then you see some teams
go on four and there and dag there and you know,
the super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (12:28):
So I don't take too much stock.

I get the I get the desire to get your
big rookies in there, to get some young guys maybe
first year, second year guys, or even new maybe if
you got a new player that's young, and you want
to get am acclimate to get them some game, you know,
live bullets if you will.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
Totally get that.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
But overall, I think increasingly less we're gonna see guys
starting their starters playing, big time players playing because.
Speaker 4 (12:53):
It's a long season. Rob.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
We're now at seventeen weeks Dad going it. They're talking
about eighteen weeks before you know it, and I think
coaches are just saying, man, I got to have my
guys as healthy and as as ready for the regular
season as possible. Now, with that may come some rusty
week one in two games, right where teams get a
little more acclimated now later.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
Wouldn't you one hundred per right? So I think you're
gonna see.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
We've seen it over the last couple of years, teams
a little rusty, still working through the kinks. Offensive line
aren't quite as in sync as they normally would be.
I think you'll see that, and so, but I don't
pay much attention to it obviously. Uh you know, you
might get a game of the here too where a
starting group plays a couple of drives, and that'll be
fun to just see some bigger names. But for the
(13:40):
most part, I'm not into it, and you're not gonna
see that. And last point, the interesting thing about it,
Rob is We've talked about this the last couple of
years that I've been on this show. You know who
acts like it is the regular season NFL teams because
they're charging you parking like this regular season. They're charging
you prices to get in dag near like as regular season.
For preseason games, and they're acting and they looking at

as a great opportunity to get some regular home season
game money. Because boy, if you've ever been to a
preseason game, you are like, wait, I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (14:12):
How much is sparking seventy five? What you must be dollar? What?
Speaker 5 (14:16):
Everything? It's ridiculous for bad football and.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
Right, and so I'm you couldn't give me one hundred
dollars to go to a preseason game.

I'm serious, like, I'm not.

Knowing dedicating, I'm not that thirsty for it's coming away.

Here for exactly, I don't need it.

But as far as what you saw Carson Beck, listen,
all he can do is when the coach says, go play,
go play.

He looked very, very good.

A guy who we knew, you know, who had twenty twenty,
he had six years rob as a a college football player,
six years turned down going last year because he was like,
I'm about to get this nil money from Miami, so
I ain't going.

To the NFL yet.

So he looked after all that experience, it's all those starts,
all those big games.

But you will hope for him if you're a Cardio fan.

He looked good. That's the best you can do. They
asked you to play, we'll go play. Well, so he
did that, Hansking as well. But I don't put too
much dot in at this juncture, all right?

used to make us buy the preseason games. We had
no choice if you wanted season tickets. But I would
never pay any money for a preseason game. We want

now back the year Pablo Tory ain't playing around. So
Pablo Tory finds out his podcast on the latest episode
there that apparently that aspiration deal that Kawhi was you know,
had allegedly isn't the only one. So scoreboard manufacturer Daktronics,

they built that one hundred million dollar video boards. By
the way, I still haven't been to the into a dome.
I know you've been there a handful of times.

The clip into it just spectacular, like.

Well, so the company that built all those screens in there,
and they had apparently hired Kawhi to a multimillion dollars
sponsorship deal for which he has done, of course, no work,
and that is according to pablotry.

And of course he has some sources.

One at a high level source set under contract four
into a dome went on to say that he's a
thousand percent sure that they were circumventing the salary cap
when it comes to this, So people with it, Yeah,
And they went on to say real quick that they're
not a company that you would see a celebrity endorser for.

It wasn't coming out on their end.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
The Clippers were technically kind of funding it, and it
was funneling money from the Clippers to Dektronics back to Kawhi.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
I'll let you start.

Yeah, you on this because you know where I'm going
to make my deal. You know where you are, and
you get where you are. My main issue is just
a little bit. The contrast that I think of where
you're going to go is if you're Adam Silver, and
the whole point of the collective bargaining agreement, right, you
get to the owners, you get the players, they all
come together and we all agree. You'll say, all right,
(21:00):
we all agree on this, this certain amount of money,
certain amount of dollars is what you have to spend.
Think it's like nearly two hundred million or whatever it is.
And here are the rules, here's what you can do,
here's what you can't do. And the point is to
make it fair for all teams that everybody's on the
up and up and they all have a chance to compete,
and so you have teams that are circumventing that. And
to me, this is where I have issue with Kawhi.
(21:21):
If this was just a scenario where he said, hey,
I'm Clippers, want to come back to LA and from Riverside,
which is you know, right outside of LA.

And it helped me out and I will figure it out.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
Let's get you there, and oh we all we got
this thing some endorsement, and Kawhi is just kind of oh,
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
He and Uncle.

Dennis, specifically Uncle Dennis when you go back to the Raptors,
try to pull this move off with the Raptors, and
the Raptors said, no, we love you, we want a
championship with you, we want you to extend the contracts,
stay with us, but we ain't doing those shady stuff.
And then for them to just go to LA and
not just go on the up and up. But say he, well,
come only if you signed a regular contract with the

NBA on the up and up, and then we do
some shady stuff where you get into the Aspiration deal.
And now we're finding out allegedly about this Daktronic deal.
So I feel Kawhi Leonard is absolutely responsible because if
uncle didn't representing you, you're all in. You go for this,
you sign on, you're getting the reaping the benefits for it.
It ain't had to do no work. Clearly you're a
part of it. Now. Clearly Steve Balmer is a part

of this as well, and he and the organization for
being the ones funneling the money, you know, going with this,
you know that's paying Aspiration again, this random company which
looks like it might have been a shell company, and
now Daktronics, which yeah, we built your screen, but you're
putting a little extra do in there so that we
can get into Kawhi for another sponsorship and endorsement, which
he ain't did nothing for. This is where a you
(22:40):
gotta make sure you levered the hammer if you're Adam Silver.
My last point, but and it's a big butt were
talking maybe NICKI Mina's CARDI be Mega style.

I want to say Boshiba, but but Shiba it ain't
hating it, Rob.

Steve Balmer is not about to get in crazy trouble.
We talk about all the time. Richard saw in the
league just built this beautiful into a dome. Adam Silver
doesn't come down on anybody about anything, and so it's
nothing's gonna happen. And I also think the owners, Rob,
I think the owners who would have to get involved
in this, I don't think they want you to make
a big fuss about it. If Adam Silver doesn't say

the owners, hey, what do you guys want to do?
Because I think they got skeleton in their closets. I
think they've got some things that they've done. And I
don't think Kawhy is the only one that is part
taking into some of this shady going on with some
extra money, some random endorsements, and I think they're like,
look just fine, Steve Bamber a couple bucks, he's got it,
he's good for it. Maybe Kawhi has to, you know,
miss a few games and then we move on, because

I don't want you to start come lifting up our rocks,
you know, lifting up our under our bed, looking at
our closets and finding out what we got going on.

Because I feel that there has to be some more
of this. Now. I'm not saying every team, but some more.

And if you, if you're the owners and you start
picking on Steve Barmer, he gonna start looking at y'all too.

See, here's my issue. This isn't about Kawhi. It just isn't.

Steve Balmer and the Clippers organizations are the ones who
have to.

Follow the rules.

They Kawhi asked for some of the monkey business with
the with the raptors. They said, no, thank you, but
no thank you. Thanks for the championship, but we're not
going down that road. It's just not about Kawhi. I
don't care what anybody says. I could ask for anything.
I could ask Fox Sports Radio to do something illegal.

Don't pay me, pay me under the table, Kelvin, so
I don't have to pay taxes, right And Fox Sports
Radio said, no, we want you on the air, We
want to pay you, but you gotta go through the
tax system and the government. No way, no, how are
we paying you under the table. Because they're the one

that's going to face the brunt of it right for
doing for doing the chicanery. And that's why I think
this is about out Steve Balmer. You can focus all
you want on Kawhi Leonard, Stop it ain't. He can't
make them do this. He can ask for whatever he wants.

it around, and this team has become good. And what
makes this interesting is how they're doing it. Rob they

are on fire. I mean, you look at it. They're
at the fourth worst runs per game. They're only averaging

four point one. None of it adds up.

It's the fifth worst that they've had since nineteen seventy three.
So the offense isn't doing it their last right now
in the American League in home runs.

So it's like playing at Fenway Park one hundred.

So what's going on is the pitching right now has
really stepped up for them, and so that's keeping them
in games that maybe they had no chance or no,
they shouldn't be in. Uh, and all of a sudden
they're able to do that. So you talked about it.
They won fifteen straight games in mid to late July.
That was a franchise record. And what they're on right
(35:46):
now is a great streak where they're all of a
sudden able to be they're sixty three and fifty one.
Speaker 4 (35:50):
You mentioned they're they're three games.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
Behind the Yankees, a game behind the Yankees, I have
to say for the wildcard spot, few games behind the
Tampa Bay Rays, and they got something going. And it
reminds me of me sitting next to you back our
first year that fall watching the Tigers, where it just
kept not making sense.
Speaker 4 (36:10):
We kept going, well, no, they got okay, Well man, well.
Speaker 3 (36:12):
Yeah, that's well, you know that's when Cleveland won the division.
Why are you talking about when the time kept losing
and they lost like fifteen out of seven.
Speaker 4 (36:19):
No, No, that was last Now all last year, you
mean two years ago, now, two.

Years ago when they got on fire and got into
the postseason, and everybody was like, oh, last year was
the other way right, yeah, exactly, And it was everybody
it was two years ago.

Go oh man. The Tigers are supposed to be as good.
It's not supposed to.

Get this run, and they were able to get it done,
getting the postseason and really brought some life to the city,
as you know. So I feel like the Red Sox
are just on this run right now where they're believing
they got a change of mojo. The pitcher is keeping
them in games, and you know how important that is
because you can steal games that you're not supposed to win.
And right now they got a good thing going. And
so shoot, I mean, ride this thing out. Any Yankees

Right, No, no, no, and and and and the whole
idea is them being able to which is incredible when
you think about.

Bats, huge bats from two of them, right You know
that that you would obviously need to try to make
a run for this. So I'm just looking at it
as if you're the Red Sox just say, hey, this
is we've We've rided the ship. We got something going.
You know, the Yankees aren't necessarily world beaters. Now, the
pitching has been good for the not to the last
last few they'll go rounds with Yankees, but the pitching

has been good for them as well. That's kind of
been what a lot of us, even you and I
talked about. What makes them think that if they get
in the postseason, they got a World Series.

Chance, they got three they got three great starters at
the time, I don't.

I don't look at any AL team for the most part,
I don't look at any of them as world beaters already,
Like you're your shook it, You're like, oh.

No, they're all teams have flawed. All the teams have flawed.

I agree with you, and the AL is open and again,
even the Red Sox is a lot of bad teams.
So people are saying well, they're just gobbling up all
these wins. They've bet some other good teams as well.
They just swept the White Sox, you know, and they
lead the division in the Central. But they've had their
own issues in the Central. If you look at the records,

like everybody over the last ten games are like under
five hundred. They're all playing poorly. It's something, and I don't.

Know, maybe it does.

It just feels like the other shoe is going to drop.
They got something, you got something going.

With you because we joke about it, we laugh about it,
but I also know we see this happen in sports
where we get on that. I mean, look at they're
twenty six and four since July first, twenty six for baseball,
that's ridiculous.

I told you. Yeah, they had that fifteen game winning streak.

I mean, and they've just they've got something going during
this that I've feel like for them. They bought it
opposite what we were saying about the Mets early on earlier,
Oh yeah, I don't know what's wrong with us. And
it was like, well no, it's like the first three
weeks of the season, it sounded like they mailed it
in then.

But what crazy is the Red Sox. They fired Cora.
You remember people were helping on, Oh what are you doing?
He's a great manager. And the Mets kept uh Calos
Mendoza and that didn't work out. The Phillies fired their
manager after they struggled early, right Rob Thompson, and guess what,

Don Maddley got that straightened out. It's just funny how
those teams look dead and buried and they made changes
at the manager's position and now they're off and running,
and the Mets didn't make a change, and obviously they're
off to it.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
Just an awful, just an awful. This has been a
bat two years Mets. You don't make the postseason when
you get Won Soto last year. This season has just
been abysmo like, it's just been rough for them. I
look at this too, you know, I always talk about
this when I sit there to the guys that sports
in La Jerry Harrison, Junior, Don Treill, Adrian Gonzalez, No,
Mark Garcia, par and the crew, and I get to
(40:09):
hear them and you know this, you cover the league,
you're on guys. Sometimes it's just good to hear these experts,
these playing former players, and like what they see. And
one of the things I've brought up many times with
you is that I always talk about man like the
game should be so much more simple. And right now
we talk it's just home run, a strikeout. And what
the Red Sox are doing right now they lead all
(40:29):
of baseball. They had thirteen sacrifice bunts since since July.
They got more than any other team. They're doing the
small ball station the station offense. They're not using the
power I told you the home runs where they're little.
You know, they're terrible when it comes to home runs,
and so they're just finding ways to kind.
Speaker 4 (40:47):
Of small ball this thing.
Speaker 1 (40:50):
Just hey, just get the you know, advance a runner,
advance a base runner and get some point, you know,
get some runs. And it's working and depending on their pitching,
and we don't often see this. Right now, we know
the league has become where it's hall run or nothing,
you know, or or or a pitcher.
Speaker 5 (41:06):
It's just amazing.
Speaker 4 (41:07):
And how long, like, like, why can't it be to
new them? Twenty six and four is crazy? Right?
Speaker 3 (41:11):
We sure like fifteen and three. I give you that,
we got six weeks to go. Really, this this is
they're gonna they're gonna run the table. They're not gonna
have a bad stretch during this with the low run
total and not hitting home runs and all that.
Speaker 1 (41:24):
I think the Bads into the earlier you know how
this goes. I think Dodgers are the Bats. They don't
have another one. They don't have another bad stretch coming
to Red Sox. Think there's relatively week if they lose
go six, one and six, that can alter where they are.
That's I mean, when you're when you're fighting an uphill battle, Yes,
you have no marginal era.

Because once you lose a few games, That's what I'm saying,
Like you put in all of his energy to try
to catch the Yankees and and and.

The the Rais and Rays, and then you have a
bad stretch.

And then I want to look at the the Yankee
schedule because just to kind of see, so the Yankees
play now the Braids is tough obviously, so that's gonna
be a tough series there. You're going to get one
of the best teams in the league. And then you
go to the Mariners. Uh, you got the Blue Jays
after that, Oilers Orioles Orioles. I say that to say,

I'm looking to see if you're the Red Sox, Like,
is there a run from the Yankees where they go
crazy and catch fire and you're just you know, you're
just too far behind. But I think this the Yankees
got a nice, little, you know, a little difficult run
coming up. So if you're the Red Sox, keep doing
what you're doing, keep trying to find ways to win.
