Rob and Kelvin debate whether the Los Angeles Rams should allow Aaron Donald to come and go (and play) as he pleases after they lured him out of retirement to chase a Super Bowl this season, tell us why they have limited sympathy for Western Michigan following their controversial loss to Michigan – even if they agree the Broncos got screwed by instant replay, and argue whether it’s worth it for Lane Kiffin and LSU to burn every bridge in the SEC in their quest to get NFL players on the roster.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
You're listening to the Best of the Odd Couple.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Aaron Donald, the big fish in the big pond here
in Los Angeles, the big acquisition this offseason. Step aside,
Miles Garrett. Aaron Donald's here. That's why the Rams are
Super Bowl favorites. But he's like, you know what? I
ain't going to make it there week one in Australia.
So I'm going to stay home. You guys take care
of that against the Niners. I'll be here holding it
down in L.A.

Speaker 4 (00:46):
And, Kelvin, I'm not even going to beat around the bush.
Aaron Donald.

Speaker 5 (00:53):
is worse than LeBron James. You want to talk about
a guy who's trying to hitch his wagon to what
he believes would be another championship team. And the worst
part about what's going on here is he's been flirting
with this whole idea. It's been going on for months.

(01:14):
He ain't ready to play the first game because he
don't want to fly to Australia. If I'm a teammate,
I'm saying, wait a minute. So here's the reasons he
came back. They got this team that is favorite to
be the Super Bowl champs. they get Myles Garrett in
the trade, so that means less work for him. So

(01:35):
chance to win another championship, less work because all the
concentration will be on Myles Garrett, not on him.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
So that makes his job easier.

Speaker 5 (01:43):
$ 20 million free, right? Because they just gave him $ 20
million for a guy who hadn't played in three years.
I get his career. No one's trying to demean what
he's done career-wise, right? And then you're not even going
to be a part of the team and go with
the team to Australia.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
You're going to take the easy way out.

Speaker 5 (02:05):
I'm not taking no 14-hour flight there and 16-hour flight back.
He's playing three-card Monty with the Rams. It's all about him.
It sounds so selfish for a guy who's that great.

(02:26):
If you're on the team, be on the team. Pat
Riley said, and I always brought it. I said it
to my wife before she became my ex-wife.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Oh, boy.

Speaker 4 (02:38):
Either you're in or you're out. I'm out. And she
said she was out. I'm just saying. If I'm Sean McVay.
Aaron Donald, are you in or are you out? What
is this?

Speaker 5 (02:58):
This chicanery is going to take place all year.

Speaker 4 (03:02):
Well, it's only the Browns. I don't need to play
this game. I can take off. I don't need.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
What?

Speaker 4 (03:08):
Are you on the team?

Speaker 5 (03:10):
Even if you're not flying, team camaraderie, you haven't been
around for three years. Everybody else, the ball boys, are
flying to Australia. You can't make the flight with your teammates.
You're not injured. I don't care if they say you're
not ready to play. Sitting on a flight.

(03:32):
With a bed-like seat to go to Australia, you can't
be a part of the team.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
I don't want a selfish guy like that on my team.
I'm sorry, Kelvin. I think this is a bad sign,
a bad situation. And you know what?

Speaker 5 (03:46):
He's worse than having LeBron James trying to hitch onto
your wagon.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
First of all, LeBron don't hitch on the wagons. He
is the reason the wagon did anything. Second of all, hello?
Let me go full ride. Is this thing on?

Speaker 4 (03:58):
Duh! You knew! Good and doggone well.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Listen, they paid that man $ 20 million. I think they
fully know what's up with Aaron Donald. They know good
and well where he is physically, where he is mentally,
and they knew there were going to be some weeks
they'd probably say, nah, don't practice this week. Nah, don't
come to this game. Or nah, sit this one out.
Or only play a few snaps. They know what they're doing.
They bought the big old mansion on the block. They

(04:25):
already had the mansion.

Speaker 4 (04:26):
It's beautiful. It's coveted. Everybody wants this amazing house. It's
got a rat in it. That's the problem.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
And then they said, we're going to add this amazing,
beautiful chandelier. And that's Aaron Donald. The house is already big.
The house is already nice. Everybody wants it. Everybody's talking
about it. That was the Rams pre-Aaron Donald. Then they
go get that nice chandelier that they spent a bunch
of millions of dollars on. You best believe we're going
to take our time to hang that up, right? You
best believe we're going to take our time to make

(04:52):
sure it is shining the way we need it to.
We're going to hire the best movers because, dang it,
that's what they brought him in for. So I don't
need him. We've been complaining about this Australia trip for
months now. The last thing I need is a dude.

Speaker 5 (05:04):
Calvin, the last time you were here, you were saying
he was going to be in Australia and play 20 plays.

Speaker 4 (05:09):
That's what you said. Rob G. sitting here is my witness.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
I've been saying for months he's only going to– I
thought he was going to start week four through six.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
That's not what you said when I asked you if
he's going to Australia. That's literally. I was shocked.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
I thought he would be there week four or six.
So nothing about this is shocking to me. They don't
need him in a sense of a necessity right now.
They're going to let him become the best version of
the Aaron Donald of all they can. They're going to
get close to that, which will probably be like 75
percent of that. which will be amazing. So this isn't
shocking to me. Nobody wants to, the Rams, Kyle Shanahan,

(05:41):
the 49ers, nobody wants to go over there, let alone
the guy who's been retired for three years. We'll pass
on that. You rest up, keep getting better, keep training.
And when we need you, we need you. He literally
is the break in case of emergency for them. He's
going to start rolling probably week two, week three, day four,
They came into the season not expecting him. Then they
were all of a sudden added him. All right, 877-99

(06:02):
on Fox. I don't even have to respond to this.
I'm just telling you, Kelvin, I get it. He's always
a pacifier. Nobody cares. If you're going to be on
a team, I told you, either you're in or you're out.
And Aaron Donald has already said he's out. He's not
a part of the team. He's his own man. He's
going to do whatever he wants. That's a selfish individual.

Speaker 4 (06:25):
On a team. It's selfish. He can still go there.

Speaker 5 (06:28):
He can still go there and embrace his teammates without
playing and be there a part.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Of the team.

Speaker 4 (06:33):
They are all professional. I think they'll say we're okay.
877-99 on Fox is the number. We're okay, Aaron.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
Michigan over the weekend, obviously, was just a huge, controversial
call to give them an extra second. A lot of people,
including Western Michigan and Western Michigan fans, and really a
lot of folks think they really won that game.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
Even Rob Parker. I saw multiple videos of him on
the Dan Patrick Show and the Odd Couple.

Speaker 4 (07:35):
Just unbelievable. I've always been a Western Michigan guy. You
know that. And for them to get hosed like that
was ridiculous. They got hosed big time. They really did.
They really did. Why you take it out on instant
replay like that? I heard you went in on them.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
He did.

Speaker 4 (07:47):
The entire structure of instant replay. Everything. I want it abolished.
He wants it abolished. Instant replay.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
So today, the MAAC, which is where Western Michigan plays,
has officially appealed the outcome of the game. And they
are looking to have the game switched either to a
no contest or to a outright Western Michigan win because
they believe it'll help them long-term for, number one, it's evaluation.

(08:16):
Number two, it's liberation. More likely than not, a potential
college football playoff berth.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
You know what? Too little, too late. I'm sorry. Like,
their first.

Speaker 5 (08:28):
response was, oh, okay, they explained it to us. Okay,
we'll just accept it. We'll take our million-dollar, million-and-a-half-dollar check and.

Speaker 4 (08:36):
Leave Ann Arbor and we're good. You know what I mean? Like, really.

Speaker 5 (08:39):
They should have been screaming bloody murder from point one. Like,
literally point one from.

Speaker 4 (08:45):
The very beginning.

Speaker 5 (08:47):
Because transparency is the most important thing. That's why we
talk about it all the time. If people don't believe
what they're watching is real, sports-wise, it takes.

Speaker 4 (08:58):
Away from them. Only real reality TV.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Right.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
You become the WWE, like you do. I'll start that again.
I know people don't want.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
I still get random mentions from that one conversation we had.

Speaker 5 (09:09):
But people don't want to hear that. But you get
my point. And my thing is, Kelvin, I've been watching
football since I was a kid. I've never seen this
other clock ever.

Speaker 4 (09:19):
Have you? You grew up in Ann Arbor. I never,
another clock? What other clock? I just, what?

Speaker 5 (09:27):
And then for them to have that response, and then
I think the national pushback and 98% of the people
on Western Michigan side, right?

Speaker 4 (09:39):
Am I right with that? You know where I'm from.
And I'm on Western Michigan side in that case.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
Right.

Speaker 4 (09:44):
Like, that was, dude, the game was over. The game
was over.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
You know, let me tell you my quick story of
how that happened. So I get a text. Shout out
to my homegirl, Erica, text me. Shout out to my boy, Vern,
who's a big fan of this show. He texted me.

Speaker 4 (09:56):
And it was WTFs and wows. Oh, my gosh. Wait,
did you go to Eastern or Western Michigan? I got
a few. I'm like, what? I'm with my daughter. What's
going on? Something happened. So I look at it. The
apps said... 12-7 final. 12-7 final. And I'm like, oh, snap.
How did we lose?

Speaker 1 (10:14):
Going back and forth. And I literally put the phone down,
get the girls in, get dinner settled. And then I
started to see the opposite text.

Speaker 4 (10:21):
I ain't going to lie. I guess we paid off
some rest. Ha-ha. And I'm like, well, why would we
pay for a loss? I'm like, what? Why'd they lose?
And they're like, wait, wait, wait.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
What?

Speaker 1 (10:28):
What? They're like, well, technically, they gave a second. So
then they throw it back. And I'm like, what is
going on? I said all that to say. I think
what happened with Western Michigan, Rob, is that they got
caught up in, first of all, you know, you know this,
you spent 20 plus years in Michigan. smaller school, directional school,
regional school there, and I think they were just flabbergasted with, like,

(10:48):
how do we handle this? I don't think they were
prepared for such a massive controversy like this. I think
they kind of went in there expecting, hey, maybe the
team wouldn't say this, but the university as a whole,
go in there, get our head bust, but, hey, dang it,
at least try and fight hard, we'll get our million
dollars and move on. You know, they do that every year.
You know, Michigan will play some small school. Right, they
give them a big payday.

Speaker 4 (11:06):
Give them a big payday.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
Exactly.

Speaker 4 (11:06):
Come on, be our whipping boy. Come on. Here's the thing, though.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
I think also they were trying to show sportsmanship to
their players and the fans. Like, everything isn't always going
to go your way, and sometimes life is going to
screw you over, but you've got to fight back and
just accept it and move on. And I think also
they were trying to assess what happened in real time.
So I'll give them a pass. I just think they
didn't know how to handle this. Like, we don't want
to look like poor sportsmanship. But dang it, it looked

(11:32):
like we won the game, but we're trying to show
how to get in, how to be good sportsmen.

Speaker 4 (11:36):
Everything doesn't go your way. So I think that's what
they got caught up in.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
And the reason why I'm okay with them pushing back
now and fighting back now is because you know this.

Speaker 4 (11:43):
This stuff matters.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
Now with college football playoff being expanded, If they win
the MAAC, they go now 11-1. What if it becomes
12-0 because they win some case or something? Or just
this could matter for them. But what if they lose
one more game and it's now 10-2, but it could
have been 11-1. That would have put us in a
college football playoff. So I think this matters. You know
it matters for coaches. If on my record I beat

(12:06):
Michigan in the big house, that's, you know.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
I get that.

Speaker 5 (12:11):
But my point is the original– it should have been–
The coach was way.

Speaker 4 (12:16):
Too— But you feel me? I think they were trying
to like, well, guys, sometimes life is going to throw
you a tough one.

Speaker 5 (12:20):
Not like that. It would be different if you lost.
If you lost and they threw a Hail Mary the
first time.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
Well, we did.

Speaker 4 (12:26):
Okay? The first time.

Speaker 5 (12:29):
But to give them another play when everybody, like, this
is NBC's broadcasting the game.

Speaker 4 (12:35):
Final. Final. This is not... How many times have you
seen that? All over the apps.

Speaker 5 (12:42):
But I'm saying you watch a game where they say
it was a final. The game is over. And then
they say, ooh, it's my bad.

Speaker 4 (12:46):
Hold on, wait. And they say, oh, wait a minute.
We got to check the other clock. And I'm like...
What other clock? By the way, Rob G. Do you
remember the other clock? Do you remember the other clock?
So that happens a lot of times. I've never seen it.
In NBA, you'll see it.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
We're like, well, the in arena clock is a hair
off of the one that's broadcasting. But that's supposed to
be fractional, not a second.

Speaker 4 (13:07):
Rob G., you watch football forever. You watch football forever.

Speaker 5 (13:11):
Kelvin, how many times does the referee go, put on
the clock, right in the NFL game, 12.3 seconds or
whatever it is. Just to make sure that the clock
is synced up to what his time is the official time.

Speaker 4 (13:27):
I'm with you on that. They've done it.

Speaker 5 (13:29):
Because the people in the building should know how much
time is left.

Speaker 4 (13:33):
Including players.

Speaker 5 (13:34):
It ain't fair. That's my point. And I've seen it.
It's not fair.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
I've seen the replay. You've seen it a million times.
I still don't get how it was the second at it.

Speaker 4 (13:43):
I don't either. I genuinely don't.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
I know now after they've ran it frame by frame
like an NBA game where it goes out of bounds
off a guy's finger and you see what happened.

Speaker 4 (13:51):
But it still wasn't a second up. There was still.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
Time for them to get a snap off.

Speaker 4 (13:55):
But not a second.

Speaker 5 (13:58):
And that's what I love about the NBA is they
even determine in those games You got to have 4.4
to get a shot up. And the other way is
just to tap in. Otherwise, there's no basket. So you
have a baseline.

Speaker 4 (14:13):
Am I right? So there's something that we all know.

Speaker 5 (14:15):
If it's. 3, it's got to be a hurl at
the basket, and you got.

Speaker 4 (14:20):
To tip it in.

Speaker 3 (14:20):
So in this specific instance, the way they got the
extra second was because they determined that the defender was
already stepped out of bounds when he touched it. So
they gave him, because they don't do half seconds in footballs.
They give him a full second. What I like that
they do now in the NBA, or they did at
least last year, we'll see if they keep moving forward,
is through the first 47 minutes of the game, if
you're holding the ball and I knock it out of
your hands, they're going to say, out on me. But

(14:42):
if you run it frame by frame, if I knock
the ball, it runs up your fingers, and Kelvin is
always going to be the last person who touched it.
And then this last season, like, you know what? That's
not the way instant replay was intended to be used.

Speaker 4 (14:53):
Thank you. So we're not going to do that anymore.
You know what?

Speaker 5 (14:56):
I wish they would do that in baseball with the steal.
The guy steals a base, right? He beats the ball
and the tag. Kelvin, the infielder, holds the tag on
the runner, right, the whole time. And then you see
on the replay, they slow it down, and his foot
comes up off the bag as he— One milli— Inch.

Speaker 4 (15:18):
You know, inch. Like, just barely— up during the whole process.

Speaker 5 (15:24):
That's not what instant replay, if we slow it down enough,
if you watch it, he's in. He beat the throw
and the tag and he didn't slide off. His finger hands,
one little millimeter.

Speaker 4 (15:36):
Right. He didn't slide off the bag. That's different.

Speaker 5 (15:40):
They look at that and they call a guy out.
That's not what instant replay should be for. He is, Steve,
the singer.

Speaker 6 (15:46):
Hello, and the Athletic did get a hold of a
memo from the NCAA that's due to go out to
conferences and official to clarify the replay protocol. And it
plainly states the official time for all college football games
is the time displayed on the in-stadium game clock.

Speaker 4 (16:04):
Thank you. Thank you.

Speaker 6 (16:06):
Sentence number two, when the replay review requires time to
be restored. Your replay official's decision will be based on
the embedded game clock contained within the program feed, the
network video.

Speaker 4 (16:19):
It's that simple.

Speaker 6 (16:20):
So if replay had an unsynced video, something that wasn't
being shown, NBC wasn't being shown score, they need to,
as Mike Pereira has been saying this week, defer to
the network feed.

Speaker 4 (16:33):
That wasn't done.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
Okay, so basically you're saying what we saw was triple zeros.

Speaker 4 (16:38):
Should be over. That was the game.

Speaker 5 (16:41):
That's the integrity and the transparency, and that's why I
was bringing up, Steve, the NFL when the referees put
the time on the clock. Hey, clock operator, put 12
seconds inside the bill.

Speaker 4 (16:53):
That's what I have on my hip.

Speaker 5 (16:54):
We got to be synced, and everybody in the building
has to know how much time is left on the clock.

Speaker 6 (17:00):
So the MAAC conference today appealed the Western Michigan last-second loss.

Speaker 4 (17:05):
I mean, good luck.

Speaker 6 (17:05):
Go ahead with it, the game at Michigan. But they
say replay protocol was not properly followed, and apparently that
part is true from this NCAA memo with the Athletic.

Speaker 4 (17:15):
So just to clarify again, it wouldn't make any sense.
You're saying.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
What we see, whoever's airing a game, NBC, ABC, Pick
a Sea, it doesn't matter, that– Is what needs to
be the default when you're making a decision.

Speaker 4 (17:27):
The program feed. Not correct.

Speaker 1 (17:28):
Program, because that's going out to millions, potentially, not the 50, 60, 100,000.
And theoretically, the scoreboard as well. Yeah, but the scoreboard
should be synced with that, not whatever a play clock
may have.

Speaker 4 (17:39):
In the arena.

Speaker 6 (17:39):
Yeah, so during the game, the time on the scoreboard
is the official time, and then if time needs to
be restored, it's the program feed, TV feed, that needs
to be followed.

Speaker 5 (17:48):
One hundred percent. I just I don't even know how
it could have been anything other. When they said that,
I swear to you, I had never heard of another clock.

Speaker 6 (17:57):
There isn't another clock. It's just like their own private
unsynced feed. So this is a memo tonight that The
Athletic got straight from the NCAA secretary rules editor. OK,
like to to reemphasize sending it out to everyone this week.

Speaker 4 (18:13):
This is the protocol. We have rules. Follow them.

Speaker 5 (18:17):
And the referees who were involved in this debacle, they
should be suspended?

Speaker 6 (18:21):
Those would be conference employees, not Michigan employees.

Speaker 4 (18:26):
Right, right.

Speaker 5 (18:27):
They didn't know what they were doing. They didn't follow protocol.
And I'm not saying fired.

Speaker 4 (18:31):
They did know. I didn't say fired, but they could
be suspended for one game.

Speaker 1 (18:35):
And the appeal is going to be interesting, too, because
I'd have to check to see.

Speaker 4 (18:39):
They're not going to check. It's never happened.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
It hurts you if we got it wrong, if to
say that we got it wrong.

Speaker 4 (18:46):
They could say that they got it wrong, but they'll
never change the winner.

Speaker 6 (18:50):
I noticed that the MAAC conference didn't just appeal to
the NCAA. The appeal to the college football playoffs saying,
can you take this into consideration when you think about
our season later?

Speaker 1 (19:00):
Because if they're as good, I mean, I don't think
Michigan's going to be great, but they were ranked, and
if they're that.

Speaker 5 (19:05):
Good— For them to win Western, like, it doesn't matter
how good Michigan is.

Speaker 4 (19:09):
Go to the big house and win Michigan.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
No, no, no, what I'm saying is, but it might
show how good, to your point, how good they might go.
They could have potentially gone undefeated, and that's huge for them,
for a school like the Mac, to try to get
into the college football player.

Speaker 4 (19:20):
Maybe they get smacked up by some other big school,
but it doesn't matter.

Speaker 5 (19:23):
If you're the— people looking into putting teams in you
got to take that in consideration they went to the
big house this was yeah and and and.

Speaker 4 (19:32):
Be the rank michigan team yes i'm sorry that's a
big win.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
Without a doubt all right steve thank you it is
the odd couple on a trash talking tuesday which by
the way you want to jump in 877-99 on Fox.

Speaker 4 (19:43):
What do you think?

Speaker 1 (19:45):
I know it's a few days later now, but how
many people will trash either Michigan or the ruling, the referees?

Speaker 5 (19:53):
Yeah, I'm sure people are going to be trashing the
referees and the people who were involved.

Speaker 1 (19:58):
Nobody, I told you, I'm from Ann Arbor. Nobody texts
everybody else from home or went to Michigan, even if
they're from other states. The alum, no one is like, woo, yeah, ha-ha.
Everybody's like, yeah, man, I actually feel bad for Weston. Right.

Speaker 4 (20:13):
Like, fans of the alum, nah, are like, nah, man,
Weston got that, man.

Speaker 5 (20:17):
If you like sports at all, it's an ultimate underdog story.

Speaker 1 (20:22):
100%.

Speaker 4 (20:22):
They beat them legitimately. In their house. And then to
have it taken away because they're going to some other clock.
And we're all sitting there going, what? That what? Like,
I was dumbfounded.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
Dude, everybody took off headsets, ran on the field, coaches
were done.

Speaker 4 (20:38):
And that's why I'm against instant replay. You know why?
Because they take away moments now.

Speaker 1 (20:43):
Now you get... Like, that was a... A magical, Appalachian
State type of moment. I know they're not that small,
but you know what I mean?

Speaker 4 (20:50):
You know what I'm saying?

Speaker 5 (20:50):
Like, it's a moment that was taken away from them,
and they'll never be able to really relive it or
feel good.

Speaker 4 (20:57):
About what they were able to do. And I think.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
That's what I'm okay with human error.

Speaker 4 (21:02):
You know, once in a while it happens. I like
a little human error.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
No, I don't like a little human scamming.

Speaker 4 (21:09):
Rob G.

Speaker 5 (21:10):
you're a human error. Sometimes you make a mistake and
you're on the rundown. I put on the rundown. I
put Shop Talk instead of Sheckle City.

Speaker 4 (21:16):
Exactly. And both of y'all read it verbatim. Nobody caught it.

Speaker 1 (21:19):
Well, listen, I thought maybe it was already the 8.30 hour.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
What's interesting about this whole thing is Michigan ends up
winning the game off of a Hail Mary, which should
have been, I think they stormed the field.

Speaker 4 (21:28):
It was terrible.

Speaker 3 (21:29):
Yeah. The quarterback who threw the Hail Mary to win
the game is now in danger of being benched. That
shows you how bad it was there.

Speaker 4 (21:35):
It was bad.

Speaker 1 (21:36):
No, big fact. By the way, we'll talk to maybe
later about that. But I'm okay with him getting benched because–
I said it last year.

Speaker 5 (21:45):
They were 27 and a half point favorites. You can't
turn in a stinker like that. And it wasn't fluky stuff.
It wasn't pump returns or kick returns or you know.

Speaker 4 (21:52):
What I mean?

Speaker 1 (21:52):
Things where you're like, we dominate them 500 yards to 100,
but they just happen to get these fluky plays. He
looked bad. The team looked bad, but he looked bad
last year. Number one recruit, quarterback, in the entire country.
And everybody's kind of like, well, you know, he's just
a little this, give him some time, you know, he's just,
and I'm like, oh, Rob.

Speaker 5 (22:13):
And he's making $ 3 million a year, the NIL deal.

Speaker 1 (22:16):
And every time I watch him play, and I mean
this sincerely, Rob, every time I watch him play, I
walk away, I go, I don't like it.

Speaker 2 (22:22):

Speaker 3 (22:34):
Big movement in the SEC, or at least they're trying
to make some movement. You guys have been talking about
Lane Kiffin for, what, about a week now?

Speaker 4 (22:41):

Speaker 3 (22:42):
What he's doing, trying to get the pros in the college,
couldn't get him in for the Clemson game, still whooped
that ass by 40 points, even said during the halftime speech,
imagine if we had our NFL players, what we would
have done to them. Shout out to Lane Kiffin. But
in any event, the SEC is not going to take
this lying down. In fact, they filed an amended complaint
on Tuesday regarding their plans to add former NFL players.

(23:05):
And they're going to schedule a vote of the conference
presidents on whether or not they can expel LSU from
the conference altogether according to the SEC rules. They need
at least two-thirds of the presidents to require a termination
of the school's membership. LSU has declined to comment. Nobody
actually expects it's going to come to this, but they're

(23:27):
flowing it out there. Like, if you guys do not
fall in line like the rest of them.

Speaker 4 (23:31):
You mean like the state of California? Then we are
going to kick you out of the club.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
You don't want to get kicked out of the club.
That's a bad feeling. You want to enjoy yourself. You
ain't get dressed, put on a cologne and all that
for nothing. Rob, I feel this way. Well, you know
how I felt about with Lane. I feel like something
bad is going to happen eventually. It always does with him.
It's always something a little slimy, something a little off-putting.
From your hero, and I'll say this, when it comes
to the SEC and what's happening here, I do find

(23:56):
it interesting that this is the hill they're willing to
die on for two guys that they didn't even play.

Speaker 4 (24:00):
Like, and that.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
Who knows when they'll play if they choose to. But
I'm making it... If you're Lane Kiffin, you have LSU
behind you. You know the players, the recruiting. Obviously, you
have a big name. You should be confident in what
you have and how good your team is. And obviously,
he smacked up Clemson, which we'll find out if that
was a good win that big or not, if Clemson's
any good.

Speaker 4 (24:21):
But my point is... Is it really worth the lemon
worth all this squeeze?

Speaker 1 (24:25):
If you got the SEC, the conference as a whole,
and what you coach and your team is in, you
have all the college footballers come out. You got the
Big Ten, other big conferences that said, we don't want this.
Other conferences, even smaller conferences, come out and say, we
don't want this. I'm just wondering what's the battle to
win when you don't even necessarily need them, not to
mention you even threw it in their face because at

(24:45):
halftime they asked him about it when he was up 51-10.
During halftime of the game, and he goes, yeah, imagine,
as Rob G was saying, imagine what we had if
we had pro players. Like, I think he almost can't
help himself throwing extra jabs, throwing extra darts at people,
and making people even more upset.

Speaker 4 (25:03):
Because, again, you got a whole conference that is saying, we.

Speaker 1 (25:05):
Don't want this, you're doing it, then you're trolling us
about it, and I think this is something that they
will try to take to court, and you want to eventually...
is this something he's going to go through or not?
And I don't think it's going to ultimately be worth it.
Burning the bridges all the way up. We might get
to where it's a two-league system, where it's the Big
Ten and SEC, and that's pretty much it when it

(25:25):
comes to college football and the playoffs and whatnot.

Speaker 4 (25:27):
We might actually get there.

Speaker 1 (25:28):
I know they're expanding, but that very well could be
where those are the only two conferences that ultimately matter.

Speaker 4 (25:33):
And you don't want to be on the outs of that.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
In your own conference, you don't want to be on
the outside, them to make maybe something ultimately kicking you.

Speaker 4 (25:40):
Out because you want to have a couple of players.
That won't make that big of a difference, Rob.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
I just don't see the upside in continuing this battle
if you're laying Kiffin and the Tigers, but specifically him
and the way he's handling it.

Speaker 4 (25:55):
Kelvin, I'm going to disagree, and I'm going to say
this to you.

Speaker 5 (25:58):
I already brought up one example, which was NIL and
the state of California, right, which made it into law. College,
the NCAA and college football fought against it and said
that they would not allow California schools to participate. And
I just feel like Kelvin, you have to fight and

(26:19):
stand up for stuff.

Speaker 4 (26:20):
You can't always look for the easy way out.

Speaker 5 (26:23):
I can just imagine Kelvin being on that bus in Montgomery, Alabama,
telling Rosa Parks to just go to the back and don't.

Speaker 4 (26:35):
And don't.

Speaker 1 (26:36):
I can't believe you would bring Lane Kiffin, Rosa Parks,
rolling around in heaven right now, that you would just
bring up Lane Kiffin with her. Lane Kiffin, who always
doing something scandalous, salacious, and leaving.

Speaker 4 (26:51):
Martin Luther King Jr. is sitting here. I can't believe
you right now.

Speaker 1 (26:56):
The Freedom Riders are looking at you right now like,
I know good and daggone well you didn't just bring
up Lane Kiffin and us. My point is— You better
hurry up and get to your point. Kelvin would be
on the— The NAACP about to give you a thumbs down.
Kelvin was on the bus saying, hey, just come on
back here. Don't cause a stir. Don't say nothing.

Speaker 4 (27:14):
And you know what? Something— You can't even say it
with a straight face.

Speaker 5 (27:18):
Sometimes you got to stand up and you got to
fight for what you believe in.

Speaker 4 (27:22):
We're going to fight, all right. And Kelvin. I can't
believe you. Lane Kiffin, bless you. Amen. I can't believe you.

Speaker 1 (27:30):
Fight.

Speaker 4 (27:31):
John Lewis rolling around in heaven right now. He's got
two black players there. He's trying to get them paid. Oh,
my gosh. He's trying to get them paid. They don't
have a job in the NFL. There's money on the table.
James Baldwin is rolling around. He has eligibility. Amen.

Speaker 1 (27:47):
In heaven.

Speaker 4 (27:48):
Amen.

Speaker 1 (27:49):
Fred Hampton is rolling around in heaven right now. Malcolm
X is rolling around in heaven. I'm mad at you
by any means necessary right now.

Speaker 5 (28:00):
Calvin, you got to stand up for what you believe
in sometimes. Even if you go against the grain, you
could just automatically pay your nine cents and get on
the bus, or you can stand up and fight and say,
I refuse to do it.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
I'm going to fight you like Muhammad Ali right now,
who rolled around in heaven right now. I can't believe
you put Lane Kiffin with him. Lane Kiffin is going
to blow like the wind. In three weeks, he'll change
his mind.

Speaker 4 (28:28):
You know what? I never wanted him in the first place.
I thought about this was illegal. Muhammad Ali, trailblazer. Lane Kiffin, trailblazer.
I'm sorry.

Speaker 1 (28:37):
Elijah, take the camera off of me. The NAACP going
to give you the thumbs up. The ACLU about to
give you the thumbs. Matter of fact, NABJ might give
you the thumbs down. But you know what I'm going
to get? A thumbs up for the Marconi Award.

Speaker 4 (28:51):
How's that? You can have it.

Speaker 1 (28:52):
The SEC ain't even going to give you one. LSU,
the only thing you're going to get is a free
Smedium t-shirt from LSU.

Speaker 4 (29:00):
You think any cars crashed today? Muhammad Ali. Malcolm X.
Martin Luther King. Rosa Parks. Detroit Zone. Lane Kiffin. Hallelujah.

Speaker 1 (29:11):
I have a dream that one day on the red
hills of Georgia, football players can come back to college.
Sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners.

Speaker 4 (29:23):
Hey, Elijah, beam me off. You want to go Star Trek?
Beam me off. We don't have to be stuck in
the not promised. You know what would have been even worse?
What was that, lightning? Yes, lightning struck you. Did you
see that? Elijah had lightning strike in me. Look at that.
He was trying to beam you. Lightning strike, there you go. Hey, look.

Speaker 1 (29:47):
The only thing worse would have been if you did
that in February. They're in Black History Month.

Speaker 4 (29:51):
Maybe June. Did you want to do it in June?
June teeth?

Speaker 5 (29:54):
My only point was that sometimes you have to fight,
and it's not an easy road. I believe it's a
fight worthwhile. The kids have eligibility, and they should have
a chance to make money. They're not on a team.
They have eligibility, and I think it's worth the fight
in all seriousness.
