Speaker 3 (00:22):
You're listening to the Best of the Odd Couple.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
I'm going to say this. For NFL America, it was
the greatest sight on earth to watch that football game.
We finally got Silence of the Rams. That's what that
game was, Silence of the Rams. Everybody and their uncle, oh,

(00:54):
it's the greatest team ever put together. It's a super team.
You actually had NFL analysts saying they had no.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Faults, that it was a team without faults.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Who are these guys who claim that they watch film
and they know the NFL and all this other stuff?

Speaker 2 (01:15):
It is embarrassing, man.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Even my guy Bill Plasky, the columnist for the L.A. Times,
wrote a column. They're going to.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Go undefeated and win another.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
Home Super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Yes!

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Homerville, everybody's in. Paper champions. Please stop it already.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
And I'm going to tell you, there's plenty of blame
to go around, including Sean McVay.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Oh, he's the boy genius. He's so smart. All the
Rams do is win. He's unbelievable. He's a culture guy.
He's the best guy out there. Jordan didn't look like
the best guy. He didn't look like a genius.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
He's the one who decided that this was just going
to be a business trip. That they're going to fly
to Australia, get off the plane and play a football game,
get back on and come back to Los Angeles.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
How did that work? Terrible.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
And most of the people who endorsed it have never
flown to Australia. Just because you have a seat that
reclines as a bed doesn't mean that it doesn't take
a toll on your body to make that kind of
a trip.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
14 hours nonstop over water. I've done it. It kills you.
And you watch the game.

Speaker 5 (02:40):
Oh, I don't know if it had anything to do
with the travel, but they do look sluggish. Sean McVay
left Aaron Donald back home in Los Angeles, right?

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Yeah, let's make sure he's cool. Miles Garrett was the
one who should have been left home. He's been banged
up all training camp, didn't do anything for the most part.
They bring him out there like you're supposed to just
all of a sudden jump in and you're good.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
Miles Garrett was so terrible. He was a zero. He
had nothing. Go look in the box score. His name's
not even in there. You know why?

Speaker 1 (03:19):
He didn't do anything. No pressures, no sacks, no tackles, nothing.
Not even a half tackle, nothing. I would have rather
had last night Mrs. Garrett from Facts of Life than
Miles Garrett on my football team last night.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
That's how bad it was. Embarrassing, and I love it.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
And now there's nobody Who's going to sit there and
act like the Rams can't be beaten?

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Oh, my God.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Look at the team they put together and all of this.
Did you watch Matthew Stafford? That's your Hall of Fame quarterback? Off.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Awful. Last night. Unbelievable. Bad all the way around. And
you know what? Go ahead.

Speaker 4 (04:10):
It's only game one.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
You're being a president at the moment. There's nothing wrong
with the Rams. They're going to win the Super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Have you seen the defense? Go look at it the last.
Go do your own homework, damn it. Go look at
the last four games. And look at the quarterbacks who
have torched them. The last four games defensively, awful. Did

(04:38):
you see Brock Purdy? I mean, Johnny Unitas? I mean,
Peyton Manning? Who was quarterbacking last night? Made it look easy.
It is the greatest thing that happened to the start
of the 2026 football season is after all the talk,
all the trophies they wanted to hand out to this

(05:00):
football team, all the boy genius ribbons they wanted to
give to Sean McVay. The San Francisco 49ers did what
we needed to have done.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
They performed an ass whooping.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
On the rams and turn that game into the silence
of the rams and i loved every minute of it.

Speaker 6 (05:25):
I can tell you did i ain't gonna lie i
ain't heard you this fired up i can't even remember
the last time you got this fired up about something
soon i i'll just jump in and add a little
bit to it no i i think first of all
i i'll say with the rams being hyped up i
do think You might have put a little extra sauce
on it. I mean, I remember some other teams throughout
the last 15, 20 years a little more hyped up

(05:46):
in the offseason. This one for sure is up there
without a doubt. But there have been others more hyped.
I mean, I think of the greatest show on turf
a little bit more hyped up than this. There have
been obviously some Patriot teams with Randy Moss there. There's
been some Kansas City Chiefs teams. There have been some
teams that were crazy hyped up. But I definitely get
your point about the Rams. And at the end of

(06:06):
the day, to me, what I saw– was Kyle Shanahan
and the San Francisco 49ers.

Speaker 4 (06:13):
Hear all the noise. See all the headlines and the
press clippings.

Speaker 6 (06:18):
And they said, we're going to be exactly what y'all
claim the Rams are going to be. Now, again, as
you just mentioned, if you're Sean McVay, if you're anybody
watching the games, you do have to say it's week one.
But the 49ers said, what we're going to do come
out week one is we're going to straight smack you
in the mouth.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
And that's what they did.

Speaker 6 (06:35):
The 49ers said, did what the Rams are supposed to
do on paper, did what the Rams are supposed to
do with the radio headline or the news head clippings
and what everybody's saying on radio and TV.

Speaker 4 (06:46):
And that is Kyle Shanahan out-coached Sean McVay.

Speaker 6 (06:49):
And you know those two guys are like the best
of friends and the most I-wanna-beat-your-brains-in guys as well. And
Kyle Shanahan out-coached, out-schemed, out-got-his-guys-prepared this Sean McVay. Absolutely factual.
And I don't care if it is. I don't know
if it's getting there a week earlier. Maybe that had
something to do with it. Or maybe it was just
the way he adjusted throughout the game. But Kyle Shanahan

(07:10):
absolutely out-coached, out-classed Sean McVay in all facets of the game.
So Sean McVay, who's supposed to be, as you know,
and he is one of the better coaches, but he
didn't bring it and have.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
His A game.

Speaker 6 (07:21):
You got the two MVP finalists and MVP winners in
Matthew Stafford and Drake May? MVP was for the MVP
was for please.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
MVP, please.

Speaker 4 (07:32):
Please play better. Please show me more.

Speaker 6 (07:34):
Please justify your MVP and being the finalist because Drake
May was terrible. two nights ago and Matthew Stafford was terrible.
He had a lot of throws to be desired. He
missed easy passes, easy layups.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
He looks sluggish.

Speaker 6 (07:49):
He looked like he just got off the plane as
opposed to maybe 20 hours earlier. And I don't know
if it's the age or again, obviously it's week one,
but he looked bad. He missed easy throws that he
normally would have. He led receivers. They almost got puking.
The cool was got his head clipped a few times.
And Sean McVay going for a fourth and one with
the quarterback sneak with Matthew Stafford.

Speaker 4 (08:10):
You and I both, you covering the lines, me living
in Detroit.

Speaker 6 (08:14):
Matthew Stafford has never been a guy you run and
want a quarterback sneak win. Now, I'm not saying he's
2005 Tom Brady.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
But you, that's not a guy you run a quarterback
sneak for.

Speaker 6 (08:24):
That was a huge pivotal play because you left points
on the board or you didn't call a better play
to get a touchdown and then obviously.

Speaker 4 (08:30):
See some momentum. So that was a terrible play call.

Speaker 6 (08:34):
Defensively, Myles Garrett, McDuffie, that whole secondary got torched and
beat up by guys that I thought Deebo Samuel was
supposed to be a has-been.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
I thought Mike Evans was supposed to be a has-been.

Speaker 6 (08:48):
And the guys who were supposed to be the old
and long in the tooth and not gonna do much
did a lot. And then Brock Purdy showed why he
got paid the money he got paid for them and
why he feels that he is, you know, an elite
and one of the best quarterbacks. And that's supposed to
be Stafford. And not to mention tough. Sean McVay prides
himself on having tough teams. San Francisco 49ers were by

(09:09):
far the toughest team. So everything that the Rams walked
into and thought they were, they thought they were supposed
to be the Super Bowl champs, but that was the Seahawks. Remember,
that was supposed to be our game. We're supposed to
win that.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
Well, you didn't.

Speaker 6 (09:22):
MVP, reigning MVP is Matthew Stafford. Well, you're not currently,
you're not playing like it. Myles Garrett, defensive player of
the year, well, show up. And everything that kind of
was just sitting there on paper for them, it did
not come to life. Maybe it was the sluggish. We'll
never know. You and I will talk a little further
about that on the show. But it was absolutely a

(09:42):
wake-up call for them that just because on paper, just
because you're the reigning MVP, just because you thought you
were supposed to be in the Super Bowl last year
and that Seahawks ring was supposed to be ours, you've
got to go out there and earn it. And they
did not at all. And credit to 49ers for coming
to play and punching them in the mouth.

Subscribe, hit that thumbs up icon, and comment away. But
we got some big football coming up this weekend. Week
one of the NFL is in full effect. And one
of the players and one of the teams when we
keep an eye on specifically is the hotly contested, the controversial,
the bane of our existence here on this show, none

(10:57):
other than Aaron Rodgers, who has let it be known
this is going to be his final season. And as
a result, he's Going on a lot of different media outlets,
making his opinion known very quickly, very eagerly, very succinctly
about a number of topics. This week, he went on
his teammates podcast, Cam Hayward's pod, talked about Dr. Fauci,

(11:20):
talked about Barack Obama, talked about Donald Trump. talked about
his ex-fiancee, talked.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
About his ex-girlfriend. Boy, did he ever talk about that. Oh,
my gosh.

Speaker 7 (11:29):
If you got two hours to kill, go and check
it out because Aaron Rodgers was letting his lips loose.
But one of the things he said. No, resume because
he said a lot of stuff.

Speaker 2 (11:38):
Yeah, resume.

Speaker 7 (11:39):
One thing he said and he was asked about, like, hey, Aaron,
who are some guys that you don't think get enough
love as quarterbacks? And during the course of his answer,
He shared some really interesting insight into how he views
the position. Take a listen.

Speaker 8 (11:54):
You know, I loved watching Randall growing up, too, because
Randall could just throw that thing, you know, and he
could move around.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
He was active.

Speaker 8 (12:00):
But I was always a Niner fan, so I would
say Steve. You know, there's, like, Dan Marino was a
really good player. Didn't win, so he's not kind of
treated the same. But I think for anybody like Dan,
even myself to some extent, like, there's a difference between
being the greatest player of.

Speaker 7 (12:15):
Your era and.

Speaker 8 (12:19):
Greatest winner of.

Speaker 2 (12:22):
Your era.

Speaker 8 (12:24):
Winning is a team sport. Obviously, it takes great quarterback play,
but the way that the guys you play against talk
about you is most important. Who's most difficult to prepare for?
I think that's what... Pat's already got three Super Bowls,
but I feel like for me, I was that guy

(12:44):
for a long time that was really hard to deal
with when I could really move around and run. And
then Pat came along and it's like, well, this guy
can beat you with his legs, with his arm, with
arm angles and doing different things. And, you know, obviously
we'd all love to win a ton of Super Bowls,
but you want to be regarded as the best player.

Speaker 6 (13:07):
Well, Aaron Rodgers is top three to five most talented
football players I've ever seen. I'm talking any position. Barry Sanders,
Deion Sanders, Lawrence Taylor, Tom Brady. I don't know.

Speaker 4 (13:21):
You name the position. I mean, just unadulterated. We all
watch him.

Speaker 6 (13:25):
And Rob, you know, covering Detroit and me being a
Lions fan, seeing him twice a year for however long
it was, 10, 15 years, whatever.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
I mean, my gosh.

Speaker 6 (13:33):
You talk about put fear inside you. Put fear inside
your team. Put fear inside your locker room. He was
that guy, without a doubt.

Speaker 4 (13:40):
He has been incredible. You're talking about what do you want?

Speaker 2 (13:44):
Long ball?

Speaker 6 (13:45):
Short passes, can run, accuracy on another level. I mean,
this guy had it all. And so I have no
argument with him there. And I think the one thing
I will say, what I found interesting is, can we
do that more in basketball where we have the comparisons, right?
Kobe or LeBron, LeBron or Jordan, or this guy versus
this guy, T-Mac versus Kobe. We do that a lot
more in basketball than we do in football. But I

(14:08):
think I heard something a little bit more interesting. And
it reminds me of if you make Kobe Bryant, Tom Brady,
And you make LeBron and Aaron Rodgers be the same guy,
where just talent, winning at a high level, MVPs, all
of that. We all know exactly what LeBron was. We
all know where Aaron Rodgers was, without a doubt. But

(14:30):
both of them, when you hear them talk about themselves,
I think there is something about where they ignore that
there was still left to be desired.

Speaker 4 (14:38):
LeBron, as great as he is, you know how I
feel about.

Speaker 6 (14:41):
Him, there are still games, there are still actual series
where he should have won. You can't lose to Dallas.
You can't lose a Dallas in the finals if you're
LeBron James. You can lose maybe one or two other ones.
You can't lose that one. There are some games you
had to have won. There's some shots you have had
to have taken and won. And I think LeBron, even

(15:01):
as great as he thinks he is, he thinks he's
the best. Part of him knows, man, I left some
to be desired. I personally, not just the team. I
could have done this better. I could have won this.
And I think he knows it. And I think Aaron
Rodgers knows that. I think he knows that's the reason
why people are a little like, ah, man, because they
know how good he was and is. And they know
how incredible he was and is.

Speaker 4 (15:22):
And they expected a.

Speaker 6 (15:23):
Little bit more from that guy because I think they
look at it and say there were some games in
the postseason that where you could have finished that thing off.
There were some games to be had where you could
have won it. You singularly, it's a game winning drive.
It's a game winning just, hey, get a first down.
And he didn't have those. And sometimes it didn't match
the talent. And I think that's all. I think people

(15:44):
look at a Tom Brady. We know he's not as talented.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
As Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 6 (15:47):
In fact, Tom Brady recently said that when he asked
about it. He said, Aaron Rodgers is that guy, the
best passer of the ball I've ever seen. And I
think that's partly why people feel like there was something like, ah,
I wanted more out of Aaron Rodgers because he was
so special, because he was so gifted. I don't think
anybody argues that. But when it came crunch time, there
were games where he let you down or let Packer
fans down.

Speaker 4 (16:07):
And you wanted more from him.

Speaker 6 (16:09):
And I just think that's a similar thing with LeBron,
where even, like I said, you know how I feel.
LeBron's that guy. But there were games, or there were moments,
or there were series where you say, dang, I needed
you to make that happen, and he didn't. And I
think that's different. And you look at Tom Brady. I'm
not as gifted. I'm not as that, without a doubt,
benefited from Bill Belichick and that special teams and that defense.

(16:29):
But he took full advantage, and there were games where
he found a way to win no matter what, And
I think there's a handful of times with Aaron Rodgers,
specifically in the postseason, where we needed him to maybe
let that pass go.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
I know it's not perfect.

Speaker 6 (16:42):
It might get picked up, but you got to do
it because sometimes that's how you win games.

Speaker 4 (16:46):
And he left something to me to be desired.

Speaker 6 (16:48):
And you want it more winning from a guy in
a very stable and good organization.

Speaker 4 (16:53):
He's not like he was the Panthers quarterback.

Speaker 6 (16:56):
He's with the Packers, who had plenty of good teams,
plenty of good seasons, 14-2 when it was 16 games,
and so many times he dominated his division, dominated the conference,
and you thought, oh, this clearly is the time where
he gets it done in the Super Bowl again, and
he didn't.

Speaker 4 (17:12):
So that's the only thing.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
He is remarkable.

Speaker 6 (17:15):
I still believe he's one of the top five most
talented football players ever, any position.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
I don't give a dang.

Speaker 6 (17:21):
He is remarkable, but I wanted a bit more in
the winning from him And that's okay. And that's why
it reminds me of LeBron, where LeBron has to sell
you on himself. LeBron has to kind of cover up
to his tracks, if you will, kind of overly state,
because I think even both he and Aaron Rodgers know,
I myself could have did a little bit more, could
have done a little bit more to allude to winning

(17:41):
the ultimate prize, which is a championship.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
Yeah, I think Tom Brady said it best, that he's
the greatest thrower of the football that he ever saw.
I mean, I think it's different about accomplishments. And the
thing that I think is comical is, you know, the
act like Tom Brady.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
Defensively, he.

Speaker 1 (18:02):
Had a top 10 defense, top five defense for all
those years they won a Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
They cheated.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
They had a couple of cheating scandals, but people act
like none of it happened. And then you look at
Aaron Rodgers' career, and these aren't like making excuses. I
just give you the raw numbers. 2009, the defense gave
up 45 points.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
2011, gave up 37 points. 2012, gave up 45 points.
This is the gist or the meat of his career.
You ready?

Speaker 1 (18:36):
2013 led the Packers to a game-time drive, never got
the ball back, and overtime was sudden death. The next
year led the Packers to a game-time drive, right? Never
got the ball back. The next year, 2015, led them
to a game-tying drive.

Speaker 2 (18:55):
Guess what?

Speaker 1 (18:56):
Never got the ball back because the defense always gave
it up. 2016, the defense gave up 44 points. 2019,
they gave up 37 points. Like, these are real numbers.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
Here it is.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
Times a defense allow 43 points or more in a game.
three times for Aaron Rodgers in 10 playoff losses. Tom Brady,
zero times in 381 starts.

Speaker 2 (19:22):
Not postseason games.

Speaker 1 (19:24):
Zero times did Tom Brady's defense give up 43 or
more points in his career. That's an astonishing number. And
here's the last part. Percentage of season with top 10 defenses.
Tom Brady, 72% his career, he had a top 10 defense.

(19:48):
15 out of the 21 seasons he played. Peyton Manning,
four times out of 17. Aaron Rodgers, 12 and a
half seasons. two times in 16 years. And, and I
just think you have to take everything into account. No
one's saying he's perfect. No one said he never made

(20:08):
any mistakes. No one said he played great all the time,
but you have to take a look at it. And
most people, if you're just looking at it, if you
strip away the Superbowl, just look at talent and what
he did in the numbers or whatever the, the, The
greatest quarterback rating of any quarterback in the history of
the NFL. The greatest touchdown to interception ratio than any

(20:31):
other quarterback in the NFL. There's a lot of meat
on the bone that's hard to look at it, and
it would be different. If he never won, then I'll
buy into that argument. You could dismiss him if he
never won. Won a Super Bowl, was a Super Bowl
MVP when he got there, and I still think... Tom
Brady's the most accomplished quarterback, but I think the best

(20:54):
quarterback I ever saw play in the National Football League,
and I'm talking about skill-wise, was Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 6 (21:01):
That's why I don't think there's many would argue with you.
I mean, obviously he mentioned him. Patrick Mahomes might be
now in the case. A lot of people might throw
him in the mix. John Elway might raise his hand
and say, hold up, your boy got something to say.

Speaker 4 (21:15):
But as far as just pure, unadulterated talent, Absolutely.

Speaker 6 (21:19):
I still– my one pushback on that is there have been–
you mentioned a lot on the defense, but if you
go through some of those NFC in the playoffs games,
there were multiple times where he had a chance to
win it and he didn't. And, again, I think that's where–
I think he would know that. I think if he
honestly would be like, yo, that was on your bull.

Speaker 2 (21:38):
Those numbers there are ridiculous. Like, seriously.

Speaker 1 (21:41):
And the last part, if you really want to be honest–
that at no time during his career with the Green
Bay Packers did they draft a skilled position.

Speaker 8 (21:48):
In the first round.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
Not once. Like, not once. That's because he was so good,
they thought they could get away with it. But he
had an amazing receiving core.

Speaker 6 (21:57):
No, no, no.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
Probably 80% of his career. No, no, no.

Speaker 1 (21:59):
I'm talking about, but they still never drafted another... They
never drafted a skilled position in the first round when
he was there.

Speaker 6 (22:06):
I mean, I don't know. Draft the first round or
give me receivers. No, that's my boggling. You think Jordan Love?
Look at what they did for Jordan Love already. I mean,
it just doesn't make any sense. And their receiving core
is no way near as good as what he had
all those years. Man, he was loaded up on offense
with receivers. Are you kidding me? But I'm just saying,
I look at the 2021 against the 49ers. They lose 13-10.

(22:28):
They only score the early drive in the game, and
they can't get the offense going the rest of the game.
You look at the 2014 NFC Championship versus Seahawks. They
lose in overtime. They got four turnovers for him, and
they couldn't do anything.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
Did he tie the game? That's the game, right? Didn't
they lose that game in overtime? He never got the
ball back.

Speaker 2 (22:48):
I gave you four interceptions. That doesn't mean you don't
know where the interceptions are.

Speaker 4 (22:52):
You've got to find a way to win this game.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
They can be on your side. That's all I'm saying.
That's all I'm saying. It doesn't automatically mean it. It
doesn't automatically mean it.

Speaker 4 (22:59):
I hear you. But what I'm saying is for how
talented he is.

Speaker 2 (23:02):
We all agree.

Speaker 5 (23:03):
No, no, no.

Speaker 2 (23:04):
That's the thing. We all agree.

Speaker 1 (23:05):
You also got to look at, and that's where Tom
Brady comes in, defensively. Like, it's not enough to come
back from 28-3. Your defense has to shut down the
Falcons the rest of the way in order to even
give you that chance. Like, you could make a comeback.
Your defense has to sometime get you a stop. They
had Arizona. They had Arizona. He came back, got him

(23:26):
a touchdown, right, to tie the game. Arizona gets the ball.
That was the year that Arizona went to the Super
Bowl against Pittsburgh. That was a time right there. If
they get a stop, the defense, right, if they get
a stop... They got a chance. There's three years in
a row where he didn't get the ball back.

Speaker 6 (23:43):
The greatest example is the 2020 against Tom Brady, where
Tom Brady, they had, he gave him multiple interceptions. They
couldn't score themselves. Three second-half picks, and you got to
ice that. You have to win that game.

Speaker 1 (23:57):
Where were the picks is what you're saying. You got
to always, were the picks a punt? Were they way downfield?
Were they at the three-yard line?

Speaker 6 (24:03):
You have the ball, Rob. I don't care if I
gave it to you to one. Go down and score.
And that's all I'm saying. In the postseason, Tom Brady
has the ball, all of us go, oh, shoot, it's
a wrap. Patrick Mahomes has the ball, you go, oh.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
That's a wrap. Aaron Rodgers for all of his talent.
Tom Brady won two Super Bowls with one touchdown. He
won two Super Bowls. No, no, no. He won two
Super Bowls with one touchdown. I know, Rob. So how
did that happen? No, how did that happen? How did
he win two Super Bowls throwing one touchdown?

Speaker 6 (24:36):
That happens all the time. Even Aaron Rodgers talked about
it in that podcast.

Speaker 2 (24:40):
No, I'm asking.

Speaker 1 (24:40):
I'm saying, how many Super Bowls did Aaron Rodgers win
without throwing a touchdown?

Speaker 2 (24:45):
Come on. This is what I'm trying to tell you.
He only got one. No, but I'm saying Tom Brady
got two Super Bowls with throwing one touchdown.

Speaker 6 (24:52):
That's a big advantage because defense.

Speaker 4 (24:55):
Let's say you took those away. He's got five.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
And he cheated. And he cheated the other ones.

Speaker 6 (24:59):
All right.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
Aaron Rodgers, when it's.

Speaker 6 (25:02):
In the postseason, He was unlike when Patrick Mahomes has
the ball, everyone goes, oh, it's a wrap. When Tom
Brady has the ball, you go, oh, it's a wrap.

Speaker 1 (25:11):
How when he tied three postseason games to force the
game into overtime?

Speaker 4 (25:16):
Because he just didn't get enough done for how great
he was.

Speaker 2 (25:20):
That's all I'm saying. You mentioned it.

Speaker 6 (25:22):
If you're talking about throwing the ball on talent, absolutely.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
He mentioned it. But when it came to getting it
done as a quarterback.

Speaker 1 (25:27):
When I think of the failures of Green Bay, I
think of, A, that their defense was never good enough.
Like if he had Tom Brady's defense that they had
with Bill Belichick, he might have won 10 Super Bowls.
If he had that kind of a defense, it was
unbelievable what Bill Belichick did.

Speaker 7 (25:57):
But one team we want to discuss.

Speaker 2 (25:59):
Can you say whitewash? I'm sorry.

Speaker 7 (26:01):
One team that is getting a lot of love in
these streets in the NFL. Kind of unexpectedly, you mentioned
the Los Angeles Rams getting glazed. What's going on with
the Dallas Cowboys? ESPN surveyed league executive and scouts to
see who they think would take home all the hardware
this season. MVP, Offensive Player of the Year, so on

(26:21):
and so forth.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
Coach of the Year.

Speaker 7 (26:25):
They settled on none other. and Cowboys head man, Brian Schottenheimer.
And that's because folks around the league expect Dak Prescott
to have a huge season. They believe that offense is
going to be dino might. The defense is going to
be better than they were last year. All eyes are
on the Cowboys making noise in 2026. And I.

Speaker 4 (26:46):
Hear on paper. Here we go again. They have a
great offense, right?

Speaker 6 (26:50):
We know that Dak Prescott is going to be throwing
a George Pickens and CD lamb on the outside. They've
got weapons. They've got tight ends. And the expectation is
for Dak. A lot of people think this could be
Dak MVP year. It could be that. And I look
at the Dallas Cowboys. They don't make the playoffs the
last couple of seasons, but they had a stretch where
they were 12 and 5, 12 and 5, 12 and 5.
We know Rob and I have talked about it. And

(27:12):
Dak is putting up crazy numbers. He was MVP candidate
a couple of those times and They've had spectacular runs
where you're just like, man, this team is blowing people
out the water. But at the end of the day, they,
for whatever reasons, cannot get it done in the postseason.
And it reminds me of, again, the NFC version of
kind of where we are with the AFC when it
comes to with the Baltimore Ravens. We already know the

(27:34):
offense is going to be potent, especially they was potent
before Derrick Henry, right? They're already getting busy. Then they
went and got Derrick Henry. King Henry looked great the
last couple of seasons. They're putting up points and Their
score in Lamar is Lamar should have been an MVP
last few times. Obviously, last year was standing with injuries
and all that. But my point is where you just go, okay,

(27:54):
I already know they're going to be prolific offensively. I
already know Lamar is going to be an MVP candidate
if not win it. And I already know that they
got King Henry.

Speaker 2 (28:02):
He's going to do what he does.

Speaker 6 (28:03):
Can they finally get it done in the postseason?

Speaker 4 (28:05):
Because Rob and I have talked about it.

Speaker 6 (28:07):
Sometimes it's been some Lamar Jackson plays to be desired.
You know, he missed some opportunities. Sometimes it's been tight
ends not catching easy ones. Kickers not making easy kicks.
Coaches not coaching out there are using wise decisions, not
running the ball in the second half against the Kansas
City Chiefs. So you look at it and say it's
always something why they can't get it done. And that

(28:28):
is the Cowboys with their playoff runs under Dak Prescott.

Speaker 4 (28:31):
They've been good. They've been very good.

Speaker 6 (28:33):
They've been dagging their great offensively at times but there's
always something that blocks them in the postseason so I
expect them to have a good season I have them
winning their division I know the Eagles fans and Eagles
can say hold on don't don't count us out and
I totally respect how good they've been over the last
four or five years so I totally get that and
credit the Cowboys for tightening up that defense on all

(28:54):
levels defensive line help linebacker help and and DB secondary
help as well so hopefully they can right the defense
so it matches the offense. So I expect it to
be better, but they have reached that point, Rob G, where, again,
we've seen 12-5, 12-5, 12-5. We've seen Dak be MVP candidates.
We've seen CeeDee Lamb be incredible. George Pickens, folks thought
they would never work there. He had an incredible year

(29:15):
last year. They say they got the number one wide
receiver group.

Speaker 2 (29:18):
They made it.

Speaker 6 (29:20):
But I need to see it come late December and January.
I need to see it then because at this point,
I've seen all versions of it.

Speaker 2 (29:28):
I've seen the offense.

Speaker 4 (29:29):
I've seen the scoring.

Speaker 2 (29:30):
I've seen the great record.

Speaker 6 (29:32):
Find a way to get to the Super Bowl, NFC
Championship game, dang it, at least there, let alone the
Super Bowl. So that's where I am with them I
do expect them to have a good season I do
expect them to have to win that division but the
idea that we've seen this before over the last five
six years with Dak when he's at the helm I
need to see you get it done later.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
Yeah, I'm not buying it. I'm not buying the Cowboys.
They're not winning the division. I'm not buying them with
this Super Bowl talk, coach of the year. None of it.
None of it. Because Dak is 3-11-1 in his last
15 games against teams with winning records. His numbers are
gaudy because he beats up bad competition. I've seen it
a million times. They pile it on. They score all

(30:13):
these touchdowns and points, and then they get in the game.

Speaker 2 (30:16):
How is that?

Speaker 7 (30:16):
3-11-1?

Speaker 1 (30:16):
Right? 3-11 and one in the last 15? That's the
team that's going to win a division this year and
they got everything and the coach and all?

Speaker 2 (30:29):
I just, I don't buy it.

Speaker 1 (30:30):
I just, I'd have to, the Cowboys to me are
definitely a team that has to, you know, you talk
about Missouri and the show me state and.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
All that kind of stuff. They got to show me.

Speaker 4 (30:43):
They got to Sam Darnold you?

Speaker 2 (30:45):
They have to.

Speaker 1 (30:47):
I just can't buy into the Cowboys and what they've done.
Because we already know Dak has all those numbers that
he's piled up.

Speaker 2 (30:54):
I get it.

Speaker 1 (30:54):
You're just looking at numbers or you're looking at who
you've beat and when did those numbers come and the
situations and circumstances. That's why I have a problem with
the Cowboys. Will they be improved? Will they be better? Yeah, okay,
I'll give you that. I think they made some good
moves in the offseason. I think they have a solid team.
I still like Philadelphia better. I'm just not ready to

(31:18):
give up on, Philadelphia for Dallas not yet and you
know I'm 100% prove it to me and then I'll
believe it when it comes to the Cowboys it's just.

Speaker 6 (31:34):
That simple yeah I still don't know Rob G I
will say I don't know about Schottenheimer yet meaning I
don't know you know obviously with great coaching you kind
of know what guys can become right what their schemes
are well maybe they're great defensively maybe they're great offensively
maybe they're just more of a galvanizer I still don't
quite know who he is. Obviously, this is year two,
so I think this is going to be huge for him.

(31:55):
People putting a little bit of extra. I'm with Rob
on the coach of the year. It's kind of like,
all right, hold on now. I don't even know if
it's just simply because of the improvement, then okay. But
a lot of that goes to GM Jerry Jones, at
least in the sense of, they've been able to get
some defensive help.

Speaker 4 (32:09):
I don't know about Schottenheimer yet. I still have to
see what that looks like.

Speaker 7 (32:13):
But, I mean, Schottenheimer's an offensive guy, right? And so
when you're judging these coaches, you know, obviously you judge
wins and losses first and foremost, but you usually say,
Sean McVay better have a good offense, right?

Speaker 2 (32:24):
Conversely.

Speaker 7 (32:25):
Yeah, but my only issue is Mike McDonald better have
a good defense.

Speaker 1 (32:28):
Yeah, but they've already had a good offense when Mike
McCarthy was there.

Speaker 2 (32:34):
Like they've already done that. So I don't know.

Speaker 1 (32:37):
Is it really him or did he go from a
dormant offense to him showing up and turning it into
a juggernaut offensively, Rob G?

Speaker 7 (32:45):
Just last season, Dak Prescott, fifth in the league in QBR,
fourth touchdown passes, third in yards. The second in the
NFL total offense, seventh in scoring offense. So they're definitely
holding up their end of the bargain. I could see
the defensive issue. You say, I'm worried about the defense.
You know, Quentin Williams is good. You know, Overshawn's back.
Caleb Downs is there.

Speaker 1 (33:05):
I'm just saying that the Cowboys offensively have been good
for years.

Speaker 2 (33:09):
Offensively. Rob G.

Speaker 4 (33:11):
And that's where I agree with Rob in that.

Speaker 2 (33:12):
Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 6 (33:14):
And that's where I agree with Rob that I mentioned
it earlier. Dude, they were 12-5, 12-5, 12-5. Jack was
an MVP candidate. Mike McCarthy had them going. So my
issue is going to be, are you able to be
the finishing.

Speaker 2 (33:28):
Touches, right?

Speaker 6 (33:29):
Great call here, whether to kick a field goal or
do this.

Speaker 4 (33:33):
Coaches, sometimes it isn't just in the status. I decided,
watch this, Rob G.

Speaker 6 (33:38):
Sometimes it might be, yo, we're going to run the ball,
even though that's not our motive typically, because against this
other team, it's going to be better served if we
run the ball. And next thing you know, maybe Dak
only throws it 18, 20 times, and they win a
game where they ran it. That's great coaching. Sometimes it's
in the play call. It's when you call something. It's
the way you.

Speaker 4 (33:55):
Approach a game every year.

Speaker 2 (33:57):
Every week.

Speaker 6 (33:57):
That's what made Bill Belichick, when it came to defensively,
he was like, all right, who are we playing this week?

Speaker 2 (34:02):
What do they do?

Speaker 6 (34:03):
That strength is gone. And Rob always brings up the
Super Bowl, you know, when the Patriots play the Rams.
All right, y'all averaging 35 points a game.

Speaker 2 (34:12):
You get three. You get three. That's all you get.

Speaker 6 (34:15):
That's what I mean. So it's not just that the
offense has to be good, Rob G. It has to
also be that you put personnel in the right position.
Did you kick a field goal when you might? Dan
Campbell could have been coaching here a couple times, kicked
a few field goals every now and again, Rob G.
You get what I'm saying? So it isn't just simply
the offense was good. I expect that already. And they
have been good at times over the last five years.
