And Kelvin as always remembered this. The Odd Couple was
filmed in front of a live audience.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
Sweet, that's right, and what a show we have for
you today on this TV theme song Thursday and man,
so much going on.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Man, uh, it's it's real rough.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
People are here at the station being evacuated from their
homes and man, it's just it's so much Kelvin and
people who don't know you do New Side on television
Spectrum one, Yeah, Spectrum News yep. And you know you're
dealing with this a lot.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Yeah, it's been a crazy couple of days and we've
been going wall to wall covers making sure everybody in LA,
in the Socau area, you know, knows what's going being informed.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
But it's rough right now.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
You're talking about over one hundred plus thousand people that
are under evacuation warnings. And to be honest with you,
did your phone just go off as well?
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Yeah? We did.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Yeah, all of our phones just went off maybe five
minutes ago, uh, telling us that hey, you know, there's
evacuation warning is not a mandatory one yet, so but yeah,
these fires are. There's another one that just popped up
as well. So this is for the again, we talked
about it yesterday. For those who don't quite get the
magnitude of these wildfires.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Uh, they're deadly. We've already had.
Speaker 4 (02:47):
People are watching on television, you know, you they see
it now, Yeah, they're watching and seeing the just the
pictures and the stuff on social media is just ie pop.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
It's out of it's apocalyptic Terminator five or something.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Yeah, you feel like it's Terminator five some new movie.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Instead, it's actually the folks reality here in southern California.
And I mean you look at the Pacific Palisades, an
entire community burned down. And I don't mean like one
block of eight houses that's bad enough. We're talking over
a thousand structures in a one small area. This isn't
the Greater Los Angeles. There one area the Pacific Palisades
(03:28):
alone over a thousand structures destroyed. And then there's other
massive fires tens of thousands of acres.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
This isn't. Again a lot of people listening.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
You know, if you're on your neighborhood in two or
three houses burned down, that's like horrific and the worst
thing to happen in like a decade, twenty years. We're
talking tens of thousands of acres. It's just it is
just frightening. But this is the reality what we're dealing
with right now, and there's an ugly truth of climate
change and no one wants to address as well. So
but for real, prayers up for everyone, sending lots of love.
(03:59):
And also, if you're in this area in so Calary,
I'm gonna post on my socials a bunch of resources.
You know, you got places like ubers giving free rides
for those who were evacuated. You got places giving free food,
places giving out free clothes.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
So I'll post those on my socials here at some
point here throughout our show.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
All right, let's welcome in the odd couple crew, because
you wouldn't be able to do this fine radio program
without them. Rob g is our producer, Alex is our engineer.
Moncey Bolanos is at the anchor desk. She'll keep us
updated throughout the program. Prayers to Mansi to her they
had to evacuate her home, which is just man.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
Yeah, so tough.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Uh. And of course Elijah who is our social media guru.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Even with the fires, we still ain't heard of him,
that's right.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
He handles that for us as always and does a
great job. So uh. It's a TV theme song. Thursday.
Speaker 4 (04:56):
We got a lot to do, including tyshirts, tower trivia
that's coming up later on in the program, and Weis's advice.
Martin Weiss he also had to evacuate, but he will
be here with Weis's advice in an hour and a
half or so. So a lot to do and a
lot to get to. All Right, we got the big
(05:17):
game coming up in what twenty five minutes, Yeah, big kickoff,
and it's Penn State and Notre Dame today. And here's
the big thing I guess that I want to talk
about today today is James Franklin, the coach of Penn State.
We know, we talk about Notre Dame all the time
(05:39):
that Notre Dame hasn't won anything a big Bowl game
or a national championship or anything in thirty one years
or whatever.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
But James Franklin.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
Has been at Ohio State and just hasn't won big,
big games, enough big games to feel good about him.
Here's his moment, and I'm gonna say it is two
if he doesn't win. And the point spread in this game,
they're only one in one point underdogs, so it's basically
(06:10):
a pick them right against Notre Dame. Yeah, you're not
ten point underdogs, or you're not supposed to win this game.
A one point spread is basically a pick them, pick
them right. But here are the numbers and they're horrific.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Are you ready? James Franklin Penn State.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
Seven and twenty five as an underdog as a head coach,
ohing too this season as an underdog. This is his
career versus top ten opponents three and nineteen versus top
five opponents one in fourteen. These numbers are scary?
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Am I right? Seriously?
Speaker 5 (06:55):
Right?
Speaker 2 (06:55):
The way around it.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
There's no way around it. You can't sugarcoat it whatever
you want to do. I think that the Penn State
should beat Notre Dame. I know Notre Dame has a
good defense offense I'm not so hot about right, And
we saw this in Notre Dame's last game. They scored
one touchdown offensive touchdown in that game, Calvin that was
(07:18):
on a turnover and a thirteen yard drive for the score.
That's all they got offensively. So here's what I'm gon say.
I'm a step aside. James Franklin needs to win this
game to save his job.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
I know people at Penn State will be like, we're
in the big game.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
Look at we had a chance to go to the
national championship, but his record is so abysmal that he
has to cash in. Here's the one when you get
your ticket punched. And if you can't get it punched.
If I'm Penn State and the people that run the
athletic program, I gotta say to myself, James Franklin can't
(07:56):
get it done.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
Look, I'm gonna tell you something, and I don't like
saying this too often, but you ain't wrong when you're right. Listen,
James Franklin has had a good coaching career thus far. Right,
He's done a really good job if you're comparing it
to every program around the country. The challenge is we
ain't comparing him to every coach around the country.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
We're comparing him to his contemporaries.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
And when you start to you hit on some of
the numbers about how he's fared against some of these
top teams.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
You know what I mean. You just mentioned one in
fourteen at Penn State. Fourteen top five teams.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
Yeah, right, So let's go even further in these numbers,
some of the coaches that you would hope a Penn
State coach is competing against. Listen to the success they've
had against similar opponents, top five teams that Nick Saban
could argue the greatest of all time twenty four and
eleven at Alabama against top five teams that Durban Bayer.
Speaker 4 (08:52):
Right, that's why he's considered, and I think Nick Saban
is the best college football coach.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
Right, I would agree.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
So you go to another one who had a heck
of a run and then they got a little crazy
and then went to the NFL got crazy too. Urvin
Meyer six ' to two while he was at who
A rivaled to Penn State and when he was at
Ohio State six and two versus top five teams is incredible.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
You go to Georgia and Kirby Smart.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
We've seen what he's done over the last five six years,
eleven and seven. They all have winning records, and not
even just like winning, like as if it's barely winning.
They have big time winning records against top five opponents.
And even Ryan Day he's five and six, that's not
above five hundred, but he has five wins against these
top five teams.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
And so you start to say, well, what's going on here?
Why aren't they winning?
Speaker 3 (09:40):
Now?
Speaker 1 (09:40):
The only other thing I would say, here's another interesting
one for you, Rob.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
All Right.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
I have said some other teams that we do this one,
including in this game Nordre Dame. You look at the
New York Knicks, you look at the Dallas Cowboys. Sometimes
there are some schools that we I believe put in
higher echelon than maybe deserve it. And I'll explain this
top five opponents. Joe pertona one of the greatest coaches
(10:07):
of all time. You know what he was against his
fifteen times he played against the top five opponent, three
and twelve.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
Rob, I get that.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
So what I'm going with this is maybe we have
put Penn State much loftier than it was warranted. Maybe
we have made Penn State more than they really should
be in the echelon of the top programs in the country.
Speaker 4 (10:34):
Now I hear you, And we do this all the time.
I used to say the same thing. The beau Chambck
Coller at Michigan, not the who's got a statue out front,
and they have revered.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
And you notice you grew up in ann Arbor.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
Yeah, dude, that dude never won a national championship and
celebrated like there's nobody's business. You better not say anything
about both Sham Beckler. Am I right or wrong?
Speaker 2 (10:58):
Hey listen, I just told you ain't wrong. When you're right,
you better not say none.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
Bo bo okay, And he never won a national championship.
And back then when Bo Sham Blackerler was playing, it
was only it was the big one, the Big two,
and the rest of.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
The average blue moon one other team, Right, that was it.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
And so the point is that was okay back in
the day when you had long term coaches and you
you know what I mean, and they used to pick
the national champion rather than you play it, and and
you had coaches were storied with programmed that just doesn't
is a bigger fish to fry today. Would you agree
with that? Yeah, he's got to come out win, and
(11:40):
he's got.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
To not only win, he's gotta look dominated he can't,
you know, he's gotta he has to start to create
something where I'm the guy taking his program in all
fairness where it hasn't been in quite some time.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
And this is it operation you mentioned. This is an
opportunity here for him to because all the.
Speaker 4 (11:55):
Stats are there and people are gonna look and go
when they lose. If they if Penn State losing and
go James, he can't win a big game.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
That and add to that rock real quick. Ohio State
has been losing the Michigan lately. Now they could mess
around and win a national championship and all of this
could go up and up and flames if they win
a national gym. You know that though, right, Yeah? But
what I mean is, you know Michigan is supposed to
be down supposedly the next couple of years. You got
Ohio State, who's been really good and obviously they look
incredible now, but you know they would look Michigan beat him,
(12:25):
and Michigan wasn't supposed to be a great team point
being Penn State, if there was ever time to kind
of creep up in here and and dominate or at least,
you know, become a real contender.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
To get to the national championship even if they don't
win it. Am I right?
Speaker 4 (12:38):
Like, like, if James Franklin can win this game and
they get to the national Championship, I don't everything, it
would be big for him and people could stop saying
he can't win a big game because that this is.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
A big game.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
I agree, all right eight seven to seven ninety nine
on Fox eight seven, seven, nine, nine, six sixty three
sixty nine.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
It is the Odd Couple. And here's a question.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
If Penn State loses tonight the Notre Dame, should James
Franklin be fired. I really believe he should be because
I would look for somebody.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
Else who can get you over the top.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
He's not like he just has been there for had
a cup of coffee in the sweet role. He's been
there for a long time. The track record and the
numbers are horrendous. He needs to win this big time.
We'll continue that conversation next with you. It is the

kind of agree that he's gonna have to. This is
his chance to really cement himself and get himself up
(15:44):
there in the upper echelone of coaching in college football.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
What say you? Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox,
We got all right, Alice in Pittsburgh.
Speaker 4 (15:51):
You're on the couple Fox Sports Radio on a TV
theme song Thursday.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
How are you, Alice?
Speaker 3 (15:57):
Mike, how are you?
Speaker 2 (16:00):
We're all right. We're hanging in with Deres. We're hanging
in Alice I'm.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
On my way to watch the Notre Dame and Penn
State game. And living in Pittsburgh by most of my life,
except for years I was doing traveler things. I've had
to listen to the Pit ten states back and forth.
James Franklin didn't want to play pit anymore. We played
them for years because we weren't good enough. It wasn't
good enough. Like you know, sometimes I'm a Pitts fan,
(16:26):
been a long time Notre Dame fan, except when Pitt's
playing them. But anyway, I think James Franklin really does
need to win this game to keep his job. They
wanted to get rid of him about a year ago.
Speaker 4 (16:38):
I think, right, Alice, at some point, you got to
win a big game, don't you right.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
He never wins a big game. And you know, I
watched his press conference yesterday, which really aggravated me. Marcus
Freeman is nothing but classy. He's a great guy, he's
a great coach. Players love him, he loves he loves
the game. He was really classy. And then James Franklin
picks that press conference to start bouncing Notre Dame for
(17:04):
not being in.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
A car, right right, no doubt, Danny has.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
To talk about Marcus Freeman's hairline, Like.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
What does that have to do?
Speaker 1 (17:14):
It's Alice has got a distraction and distract them from
my losing record exact, Alice.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
I love it. Thank you, Alice.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
I have noted Dame Barry him go iris.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
All right, all right? Thank you.
Speaker 4 (17:27):
Dion in Texas. Thank you, Alice, Dion in Texas. J'rein
the odd couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Dion,
yoyou thanks for having me.
Speaker 6 (17:36):
I love this show. You guys listening us here in Texas.
We got some inclement weather and prayers to my people
in California.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
Thank you, buddy. Yeah, thank you guys out there too.
Speaker 6 (17:46):
Hey, I'll be real quick. Hey guys, James Franklin, Hey,
I will say he won't get fire up because I'm
not sure he was exactly on because he to be
on the hot seat at the beginning of the season.
So he guess what, he's been a beneficiary of this
key the playoff schedule that they had. They played yeah
in Boise State. Okay, they haven't really been tested, man,
(18:06):
I'm telling you right now not to dang will beat
the breaks off those dudes to make you hear it.
Here first, and he will be on the hot seat
for next year. I think he'll be gone after next
year if you don't get it done.
Speaker 4 (18:18):
Thanks guys, all right, appreciation age seven seven ninety nine
on Fox. If you want to jump in, we still
got time to jump in on this. It'll be interesting
only because you know getting there sometimes you know people, Oh,
we got to the big game.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (18:33):
We're in a big game. We had a chance to
get there. But to me, at some point you got
to punch your ticket. That's all. Richie in Ohio, you're
on the couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
What's up Richie? Hey man, how are you guys doing great?
How are you doing good?
Speaker 7 (18:50):
Doing good? Surviving the snowstorm out here? But I want
to talk about James Franklin. He seems like he's over due.
I agree with you guys listening to the show you're
talking about how you know he's overdue. He should have
been going last year. But who do you replace them with?
There's nobody out there, everybody that's a good coach or
either somewhere in the pros. They're already at a at
a bigger college, at a better college. But what do
(19:11):
you put James Franklin, you know, who do you replace
them with? There's nobody there.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
I hear you.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
And it's not like they're great coaches hanging out on
the side, you know what I mean. So I do
understand that. But Richie, how many years can you keep going?
If you're Penn State one in fourteen against teams top eight,
top five AP teams. Yeah, one in fourteen, Like like
if you're seven and eight, people could live with that, right, Yeah,
(19:39):
that's what I.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
Say that day.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
It's five and six. You can live with the greatest
behave we're competing with.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
It's Richie.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
Yeah, one in fourteen. It's terrible. What you're saying is
you automatically have a ceiling.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
Right.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (19:52):
We got Ethan in New Mexico. You're in the couple
of Fox sportsuating. What's up, Ethan?
Speaker 2 (19:56):
What's up?
Speaker 7 (19:57):
How's it going? Guys?
Speaker 6 (19:58):
I suit you every night. I just say, career limits
some mistakes.
Speaker 7 (20:01):
He's going to get to W tonight. Whoever doesn't make
the mistake is going to come out with a W.
That's for sure in my opinion.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
Does Franklin need to win? Ethan? I mean, yeah, you know,
I mean the record has been terrible.
Speaker 6 (20:13):
I do think he needs to win.
Speaker 7 (20:15):
I think he's had plenty of teams that could have
got it done and he just got out coached. I
think it comes down to tonight. If he makes the
right calls, he'll get it done. If not, he'll definitely
be on the hot because if he gets.
Speaker 4 (20:25):
It done and gets into the National Championship game, that's
gonna buy him time.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 7 (20:30):
Yeah, yeah, he'll be able to say I got into
the big game, no matter what happens.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
All right, the call not only that he gets Robb,
he gets to get into the big game.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
Say we have momentum, we're heading sore somewhere.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
And if it ends up being Ohio State and you
mess around and beat Ohio.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
State, God, oh God, then he's got a job for.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
Beat me to it, you beat me to getting ready
to say he's set, he's set now. So and listen,
we're not saying anything that James Franklin doesn't.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
Already knows it. He knows it absolutely all right.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
We got Manzi Belanjos getting ready to give us what's trending,
because the part of what we got to talk about
is these fires Rob and how they're affecting the sports
world around LA.
Speaker 5 (21:09):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
Company, live from the tirag dot com studios. As Moncey
was just mentioning there, Rob, you know we're out here
and uh, southern California, and we're of course obviously dealing
with these wildfires, which I mean your phone has gone off.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
My phone's gone off. It's just been uh, there's.
Speaker 1 (21:33):
Fires everywhere, different fires and different sections of town. And
of course it ultimately would affect these sports teams as well.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
And uh, you got the Rams game trying to figure
out what they're gonna do.
Speaker 4 (21:45):
I know it's serious because I'm getting Texas from ex girlfriends.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
Now, that's when you know, you know, it's not humorous,
but everyone because people are just concerned, you know what
I mean.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
Yeah, But like this is the one where everyone keeps
saying I've gotten more than I've ever gotten. Like everyone's saying, oh,
I always get a couple of people. Hey, you guys
will get out there. Hey, I heard about this, heard
about an earthquake. Everyone has said, this is the one
where my phone has blown up, and you mentioned it.
I'm getting reached out from people I haven't heard from
in years. People I didn't even know that we were
(22:17):
that cool. In your case, ex girlfriends like it is
it is. It's really big out here. So you got
the NFL trying to has contingency plans in case the
Monday night game can happen. We talked a little bit
about that yesterday. Monty talked about the Lakers game. You
got the Kings game. So this is one of those
things where you know, you got sports teams that are
(22:38):
trying to push through disasters that have happened in their talent.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
And we've seen this before, Rob.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
You remember in New Orleans what it was like when
Hurricane Katrina and after that and obviously the big game back,
that first game back, the stadium was rocking. They win,
the right opening kick, you know, they score. I mean,
it's just certain moments that the sports team really uplifted
a city, uplifted the town.
Speaker 2 (23:03):
During a tragedy. We saw you were you know, you're
a New York guy.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
You remember with the uh you got the after nine eleven,
well not eleven, right, and everybody in America was pulling
for the Yankees that year.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
Yankees, yep.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
So this is just I'm not saying La all of
a sudden has become America's darling. But I'm more or
less saying how you know, sometimes we we we we
love our teams, we love our sports, and we get
caught up in and then we get in this weird
mix where real life hits real sports, and lives are changed,
and uh, we forget the humanity that these.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
Sports, uh, and these athletes have. I mean, think about it.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
You and I were just MONSI was just telling us,
You're Steve Kerry, got a game tonight, but I just
lost my family home.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
I'm JJ Redick. I got a game, but I just
lost my home. Uh.
Speaker 1 (23:46):
You know, they interviewed Russell Westbrook after the last NaN's game,
and he's talking about it.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
You know, I have friends who've lost their homes.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
He's from here, he's from LA And I gotta go
about my business, as do all of us.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
But it's a very difficult thing.
Speaker 4 (23:58):
But the thing is, and we've these kind of you know,
the tragedies whatever, and sometimes it sounds like it would
be like a great story Hurricane Katrina, right with New
Orleans had a chance to go to the Super Bowl
and they got beat by the Chicago Bears, right, Rex
Grossman and whatnot.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
The Yankees they lost with Mariano Rivera. That's the year
nine to eleven.
Speaker 4 (24:21):
Yeah, everybody in America was pulling for the Yankees and
Mariano Rivera was beat in the bottom of the ninth
right by the Arizona Diamondbacks. And there have been some
that have worked out, Right, I think the Lakers won
right when Kobe was killed.
Speaker 1 (24:38):
Yeah, that's a great when Kobe, they dedicated the.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
Rest of that season in him.
Speaker 4 (24:42):
And they wound up winning in a bubble. Yeah, but
you know what I'm saying. But there was also, Uh,
it doesn't always work out, but sometimes it can.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
Yeah, I mean it's listen, it it adds to it,
you know. And when you went back to the Saints,
it wasn't necessarily uh, they had a chance to go
to the super Bowl, but it was even just a
moment where they were able to get that big opening
kick and they were able to score and it just
win the game. And like at that moment that the
city was able to celebrate after all the hell they
had gone through.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
And uh, that's a great thing about sports.
Speaker 1 (25:13):
That's why we all love sports, right, It provides an
opportunity at time for uh obviously fandom, escapism, just a
camaraderie thing, the thing you do with your son, your daughter,
your friends, your father.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
Or people you don't even know or like. Like, that's
the thing about sport.
Speaker 4 (25:26):
You could go to a game and you know, the
person next to you doesn't look like you, doesn't believe
all the things you believe. But if you all pulled
for the same team for that for those two or
three hours, do you know what I mean, you're you're
locked up.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
You're you're you're you're locked in with each other.
Speaker 1 (25:44):
That's the one thing I will say, Rod, that drives
me crazy. Actually, uh, because you just mentioned it. It
drives me crazy because for three hours we'll high five.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
Well we got it, we go. We got breaking news
from breaking news from Fox Sports.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
This just in, guys, multiple reports that the Vikings Rams
wild Card game this Monday officially has been moved to Arizona.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
Wo yeah, so that's a listen serious, serious, I mean,
when you got the bohema for the NFL making these
kind of moves, obviously for safety.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
And the thing about it too, Robins, These fires are
some most of them are zero percent contained. So this
isn't like all right, we're passing now. It was a
rough couple of days. And also you.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
Don't want to even like chance it.
Speaker 4 (26:33):
I mean, I think someone was saying, well, they can
have the games without fans. Well, but the players will
be like, wait a minute, it's not safe for fans
to be here, but we are here, you know what
I mean. So now you can't do that, and you
don't want to wait. Today's Thursday, right, the game's Monday.
You can't make that decision Saturday night.
Speaker 1 (26:49):
Nope, you got all these things. You got to change
your location, hotels and all that good stuff. And now
it does become interesting if you're the Rams. I mean, now,
let's here's the one. Let's be real.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
Rams. Games aren't necessarily I was gonna say that, like.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
It's not an Eagles or being in Motor City, Detroit
or you know, some Pittsburgh or anything like that, so
it ain't that. However, you do lose potentially a home game,
another home game, boy, it wouldn't be if there were
the Lions, obviously, but you know, you get what I'm
saying that you lose this home game, so that portion
(27:25):
of it sucks from a just simply competitive standpoint as
far as playing your game, but obviously much larger things
are at stake with lives, homes, properties being burned down,
and it's the safety of everyone.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
So that's some big news right there.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
Monty just dropped on us because you know, the NFL
is king here in the States, and obviously the NFL
the postseason is the biggest thing smoking. Gosh, I gotta
stop with the puns. I keep doing that on accident.
It's the biggest thing happening, and and for them to
make this move clearly shows you how big this is.
Speaker 4 (27:55):
Yeah, I mean, I think it's the right decision when
in doubt, don't there's any doubt. You don't know what's
going to happen. And then you're in a bond, and
remember they need this game to happen because of the
next round. You can't you can't go like, oh well
we wanted to play it in LA. They didn't have to,
weren't able to do it on Monday. Now you're playing Wednesday,
(28:16):
and then you're gonna come back and play the next
game right with short Russ. How does that fair to you?
So they got to kind of keep the schedule right
in order to make it legit.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
On everybody's end, it makes sense.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
It does make sense, and good for them, like you said,
getting this done in early. And obviously, if you're the Rams,
you've been already thinking about this. If the Vikings, you've
already been thinking about this. I hurt Kevin O'Connell talking
about it already there. You know, you've already had your
players locked in and kind of ready. Hey, this is
a very likely thing to happen, so let's just prepare
for that anyway.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
So but yeah, this is what And in the.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
Press release they just said it in the interest of
public safety, that's all plain and simple.
Speaker 1 (28:56):
Yep, you don't want the liability. Look, you don't want
the liability. Have fans try to get to this game.
Craziness is happening, and you know, all for the sake
of getting to this game, and you know you don't
want to be liable for that some tragedy happens or something.
People trying to chance it going around a fire, you
know what I mean, and now you seem to be
responsible for it. So yeah, they don't want any of that.
They don't want any liability when it comes to that.
(29:18):
So kudos to the NFL for making the right decision
when it comes to that.
Speaker 2 (29:22):
Yep, no doubt. You know what, I didn't even know.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
I don't Notre Dame had a storied history, but I
didn't know they won eleven national championships.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
But that's when they were voting on it, right, I
mean that was yeah, that was nineteen twenty two, thirty five,
forty one.
Speaker 4 (29:36):
Yeah, but even then, And I'm just this is your
school that you grew up around the corner from. Yeah,
you know, they didn't win, they only won two, and
you gotta.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
To bring them up. I'm just saying you.
Speaker 1 (29:48):
Ain't got You ain't got to bring Michigan down a big.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
Un nor day.
Speaker 4 (29:51):
But when you're like, you're making fun, Oh that was
nineteen twenty two, Like, think about it. Before this last year,
Michigan had won one national champion which is incredible to me.
Don't you think Penn State hasn't won since eighty six.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
First Football championships? Okay, Michigan won a bunch of Consootball Championship.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
What are you talking about? They haven't won the Dean
the way.
Speaker 1 (30:13):
We have it now national championships when they want a bunch.
If you want to go back in back in the
back in the day, you want to go back in
the day with me and you couldn't even vote, that's how.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
Far back you want to go. We don't want to
go that far, all right. You want to go.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
Back to when I had a dream, That's.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
How far back you're trying to. It has been a
long time.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
It has been all right. Eight shekel city on the way,
looking forward to that. And also some sad news with

What that Miami vice? That's what it was?
Speaker 4 (31:20):

Speaker 2 (32:11):
No? Just to play? And the third? And what was
that second?
Speaker 4 (32:14):
And nine?
Speaker 2 (32:15):
Just a quarterback through it. The receiver never saw it.
That's all. That's all. Hey Rob, well you know what
time it is. It's time for Shekel.
Speaker 5 (32:22):
See look two Shekel City the whole base for Rob Parkers,
Dally Dix against the Scrats.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
It's definitely a bumpy start to the new year.
Speaker 4 (32:38):
I got off to a great start one and two
last night. Eight and ten is the total, Kelvin and
tonight I'm taking Penn State plus one. That's my best bet.
James Franklin gets it done. Penn State plus one. James
Franklin gets it done, Penn Stay plus one.
Speaker 1 (32:58):
Day, Jane Franklin gets it Okay, I like that, im no.
Speaker 2 (33:03):
I know.
Speaker 4 (33:04):
And Miami minus five and a half they're taking on
the Jazz in Utah, and I got all right, Kevin,
you're gonna be mad. Golden State plus two and a
half against the Pistons won a.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
Lot of games. They won a lot of games. I
think that Golden State is.
Speaker 1 (33:22):
Just that would mean you would want to go with him,
and especially no nose saying you were making fun of
Steve Current the words. Now you don't want to go
with the Pistons, see what I mean?
Speaker 4 (33:29):
No, because you, it's not always the obvious teams to win.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
You know that.
Speaker 4 (33:33):
Otherwise it's when had the Pistons been obvious? This ain't four, no,
but they won a lot lately. They have Golden State
plus two and a half. Remember that when we talk
about a Golden plus two and a half, Miami minus
five and a half on the road at Utah and
again Penn State plus one. James Franklin gets it done.
That's the best bet. And remember, Kelvin, I'm not telling
(33:56):
you who to bet on. I'm telling you who I
bet on.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
All right, well you're telling me that. We'll see how
it all fans out.
Speaker 1 (34:04):
Did you hear that story man about Frank Wichik remember
the tight end for the Tennessee Titans who passed away
about the year literally year and a half ago, give
or take. And it has now been confirmed that it
was actually his family has said it was Cte. And
it's just another stark reminder.
Speaker 5 (34:21):
Man.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
It's just one of those things where you know, we
kind of all forget sometimes or at least in the
back of our brain, and because we love the sport,
we all want to watch the sport, but it's a
very difficult sport.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
To play in.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
There's been tragedies, you know, for so many young people.
He passed at the age of fifty two last December December.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
December twenty twenty three, so lo over a year ago.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
And but his family did confirm that that is what
is how he passed away. He died of a fall initially,
then they studied the brain and find out that it
was It was obvious, said, you remember he was the
one with the Music City miracle where.
Speaker 2 (34:59):
The through the pass back. He threw the pass back
and then they ran it all the way in the
end zone against the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 1 (35:05):
Oh yeah, yeah, he was the one who threw that
sure pass yep. So, but just another tragedy, man where
sometimes you know, it's a difficult sport. And the only
thing I'll say about this he had chronic stage three
chronic CTE. They found that out. But the one thing
I'll say, and it sounds crazy, rob but at least
(35:29):
now the league has had to admit some things. At
least now we have all these studies. At least now
we have the information where we can at least go
to the players and say, hey, here's what it is.
Nobody's saying you're going to get it. Nobody's saying you're
likely to get it, but there is a chance. We
know that it's happened. It happens a lot to people
who've played you know, pee wee, high school, college and
(35:52):
all the way up. You know, but at least you're informed.
You remember, the league denied it for so long. They said,
there's no correlation, there's nothing, there's no this.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
No that. Yeah, they want to be responsible.
Speaker 1 (36:02):
That's all right, and so to me, at least now
we're giving the players the information so that they can
decide for themselves and say, hey, I still choose to play,
but at least they're not being lied to or misled
or misguided.
Speaker 4 (36:14):
Yeah, and they were forced into that, but there's no
doubt about it, and it's going to be more.
Speaker 2 (36:19):
As you know, as players.
Speaker 4 (36:22):
How many players we talk about all the time who
commit suicide, drop dead at fifty five years old. It's
not pretty. And I get it. People know the you know,
the the risk involved at playing, but they still play.
(36:43):
And you know, for some people it's it's real tough.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
You and I both know. I've said it a million times.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
I've not spoken to one former NFL player that said
they wouldn't do it again, knowing everything they know, limping
around broken fingers, back.
Speaker 2 (36:58):
Pain every day they get up.
Speaker 4 (36:59):
But I've also talk to plenty who say, man, they
don't want their sons to do it, they don't want
their kids.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
No way, no.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
Way, one percent. You're right about that. So again, so
rest in peace to Frank Whitchak. Just you know, the
news came out from his family giving us to all
that today.
Speaker 2 (37:14):
So again, it's an inherent danger with the sport. We
love the sport.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
We're watching some college football right now, some big, huge
NFL games over the weekend as well, so we're all
going to be part of it. But you know, at
least they know now and have a chance to make
the right decision for them and themselves. Coach Prime, he said,
they'll go where if what We'll tell you
