you do, when this Aspire investigation is complete, whatever punishment

the league would be soft in this, not that the

But ultimately, Michael, he should skate. You know why, because
it's the by laws of what has to be done
with the salary cap or whatever lie with the team.

the group of thirty NBA teams that have set forth
these rules and said you cannot do this to circumvent
the cap. So if I'm going to come down on anybody,
it has to be on the people who own the

That's certainly the way I would interpret it, because yeah,

So I think, But I would go back to, like,
there's only one situation in league history that's kind of comparable.
You go back to Minnesota, Minnesota Timberwolves Smith. Remember that Smith,
and you know the Timberwolves got hammered like and and
by the way, that was a pretty cut and tried
case because there was two signed agreements in a drawer

saying you know one you know, you'll play the first
three years for this amount of money, which isn't very much,
and then there's another one signed, then we're going to
pay you this much because that's when we'll you'll be
able to to get it.

But do you have paperwork there? Right? There was a
patrol work and.

In that scenario, the Timberwolves got smashed. They were hit
with five first round picks, eventually dropped down to two.
But Joe Smith, uh the contract he was on was voided.
The previous two contracts that he was on were also voided.
They didn't take away his money, but the existence of
the contract was was voided.

You just said what they said. They didn't take no
money back.
Speaker 13 (27:55):
They didn't have the they didn't have the bird rights.
He didn't have bird rights, so he went he was
going to get eighty million getting signing for one year
for two. So I'm just saying it's happened before and
I'm not saying it's going to happen this time. But
uh so, I agree with you. I do think it's
a team issue and they're the ones that should bear
the responsibility and and whatever punishment comes down. But and

that's that's why this trade got the pause button, got
hit on this trade today is because there is a possibility,
however small, that Kawhi Leonard.

They probably could have should have beat Cleveland in the

You know, we've seen how he's getting down in terms
of how these things have frankly spiraled out of control.
Because I put the whole Lucas situation in with them
wanting to build a casino connected to the arena, I
think that played a factor, and then the gambling that's
going on.

Oh so far, that's definitely been the case. This will
be the final test of that. We're gonna find out
soon enough what the league's investigation has determined and what
the league wants to do about it and whether Kawhi
gets to skate one more time or not. But so

But ultimately, Michael, he should skate. You know why, because
it's the by laws of what has to be done
with the salary cap or whatever lie with the team.
I could ask you for anything, I could ask you
to break the rules or whatever, and as an organization,
it's on you, Michael. You're the one that belongs to

the group of thirty NBA teams that have set forth
these rules and said you cannot do this to circumvent
the cap. So if I'm going to come down on anybody,
it has to be on the people who own the
organization who did business doing knowing that what they were.

Doing was illegal according to the rules of the league.

Speaker 13 (26:41):
That's certainly the way I would interpret it, because yeah,
you're right. I mean, we all are in those kinds
of situations. Our kids ask us for stuff all the time,
and yes, you know it's on us, but not to
say Kawhi Leonards, you know, to draw direct comparison.
Speaker 5 (26:57):
No, but I know what you mean, right, right.
Speaker 13 (27:00):
So I think, But I would go back to, like,
there's only one situation in league history that's kind of comparable.
You go back to Minnesota, Minnesota Timberwolves Smith. Remember that Smith,
and you know the Timberwolves got hammered like and and
by the way, that was a pretty cut and tried
case because there was two signed agreements in a drawer
(27:20):
saying you know one you know, you'll play the first
three years for this amount of money, which isn't very much,
and then there's another one signed, then we're going to
pay you this much because that's when we'll you'll be
able to to get it.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
But do you have paperwork there? Right? There was a
patrol work and.
Speaker 13 (27:33):
In that scenario, the Timberwolves got smashed. They were hit
with five first round picks, eventually dropped down to two.
But Joe Smith, uh the contract he was on was voided.
The previous two contracts that he was on were also voided.
They didn't take away his money, but the existence of
the contract was was voided.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
You just said what they said. They didn't take no
money back.
Speaker 13 (27:55):
They didn't have the they didn't have the bird rights.
He didn't have bird rights, so he went he was
going to get eighty million getting signing for one year
for two. So I'm just saying it's happened before and
I'm not saying it's going to happen this time. But
uh so, I agree with you. I do think it's
a team issue and they're the ones that should bear
the responsibility and and whatever punishment comes down. But and
(28:19):
that's that's why this trade got the pause button, got
hit on this trade today is because there is a possibility,
however small, that Kawhi Leonard.

Sorry, that was just that anyway, but that there is
a possibility that that Kawhi Leonard will have some responsibility
to bear in this and if that's the case, the
Raptors will have to deal with it. And that's why
they said, well, we'd rather just wait and find out
exactly what we're dealing with continue with this trade.

I immediately say I want to go to the Major
League Baseball Players Association and have them fight on my behalf.

didn't know what what the terms were exactly. I'd never
agreed to this exactly, Which is I do think.

aging at the time. So there's a lot of gray
area there.

I think they're a top sixteen in the East. I
think the East has got better. I think because they

gonna be one of probably eight teams right now. They're
looking at the top four set spot in the East
and saying we should have that and the Rafts would

definitely be there. Doesn't make him an NBA title contender.
I think they probably would make it. Need to make
at least one more move to one more significant move
to make that happen. But they're a better team now
and they were they were fifteen and eight last year.
They probably could have should have beat Cleveland in the
first round. And they're a better team now with Kawhi
Leonard obviously than they were with brandon ingram uh.

And I also think, uh, when you win a championship
in a city like Kawhi, coming back is easy, like

the Commissioner's office is nearly as powerful as it used
to be, And the examples of you cite are are
would sort of suggest that. So I think, you know,
I'll be a little surprise. And again, as much as

He's an incredible you know, I want to pull it, serprize,
I didn't. So there's definitely I think that there's probably
enough gray area, enough wiggle room that you know, the
worst case scenario in terms of punishments, how it affects
