going to be a repeat division winner here. I'm easily
taking the Bills to win the AFC East. There's no
there's no reason to believe that the Patriots are going
to be able to maintain what they did, especially with
everything still going on with Mike Rabol on the side
and what I just I think there's distractions. I don't

know how much I believe in Drake may not that
they're a bad team, not that they're not going to
make the post of the playoffs. I'm just not taking
them to win the division.

season preview with the Straight Fire Podcast two weeks ago,
and the Cincinnati Bengals are actually favored. I think in

whole new coaching staff there, head coach, offensive coordinator. I
think they're going to be really good, but at the
end of the season, I think it's going to be
an adjustment period. So I don't see them winning the

but as far as winning the division, you got to
be good pretty much the whole year, and I don't
think that's gonna happen. So we both have the Bengals.

I'm gonna start off with this.

NBA schedule gets released and we find out that the
New York Knicks are going to kick off the season
with their banner raising, with the rings whatever they're getting.
But at the same time they are hosting Lebron James
and the Philadelphia seventy six Ers.
Speaker 5 (24:40):
Disrespect to New York or not, I.
Speaker 9 (24:44):
Think it definitely is disrespect.
Speaker 7 (24:46):
But the NBA.
Speaker 9 (24:47):
They're all about disrespect. They know that gets rating sodas drama.
So does Lebron James. So it's natural that they would
fit those two teams together because they are the ultimate
contrast the New York Necks any champions. They won the
NBA Championship because of continuity and it wasn't just star power. Yes,
Jalen Brown, Brunt in Corinthine Towns are all stars, but
(25:09):
it's about that total team. Philadelphia seventy six ers, they've underachieved.
Now they have a super team with Jalen Brown, Lebron
James and how do they make it all work. But
you know, I've talked to some people in the Knicks organization.
I think it's telling that they kind of brushed it
off their shoulder a little bit, like jay Z Like,
it's kind of one of those things that they feel
so empowered and confident that what they've accomplished that nothing
(25:32):
is really going to phase them.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
Well, speaking of those Sixers, we open the show talking
about how they don't play a Western Conference team until
the eighteenth game of the season. They don't play a
road game against the Western team till the twenty first game.
They don't have a Western Conference road trip until Christmas.
They have the least amount of three games in four nine.
They have the least amount of back to backs. Mark.
Why does the NBA keep cowtowing to Lebron.
Speaker 9 (25:55):
Because he still gets ratings. I mean, look, I thought
it was going to be Sixers Celtics Christmas Day game.
From a basketball standpoint, that is the best reunion game
because of Jalen Brown's trade. He actually had his entire
career in Boston, won a championship. It was a very
emotional fallout afterwards. But the NBA, it's not just about basketball,
(26:18):
it's what's going to move the needle in the soap opera.
So that's why they scheduled the Sixers to play the
Lakers for the first time on Christmas Day, as well
as maybe keive Lebron a solid that he can visit
his family in Lay. Now, I do add some caveats,
rob G. When it comes to Eastern Conference team Western
Conference teams, it's fairly typical that they don't, you know,
(26:40):
move coast until later on in this season.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
They haven't.
Speaker 9 (26:44):
They usually have some home heavy uh you know stands,
and then you know, some road games are usually on
the same coast or you know, at least in Central time.
But I am. I think it is very fascinating that,
you know, they're already tying the Lakers, the Spurs, the
Knicks for most national TV games, which is thirty four.
(27:06):
And I get it, they're talented, but look, the Spurs
got the finals last season, the Knicks won the championship.
The Lakers are the Lakers and they still have Luka Dacic.
The thunder have thirty one, you know, national TV games,
less than the Sixers, and they were in the Western
Conference finals last year. So yeah, when it comes to
(27:26):
Lebron and super teams, it's not always about the team
on the floor. It's you know, the soap opera that
comes with us.
Speaker 5 (27:33):
Let's shift gears a little bit.
Speaker 4 (27:34):
You mentioned the Lakers and Luka Doncic and all of that,
the selling of the Lakers that came out of nowhere.
Speaker 3 (27:42):
I don't know if the plan was always.
Speaker 4 (27:43):
To flip the Lakers like flipping a house, but what
what have you heard? What is the conversation surrounding this,
because I feel like it should be a bigger topic
of conversation and it's not.
Speaker 9 (27:56):
Yeah, moms, thee I think you're right. I mean, it
is a huge topic of conversation, to be clear, and
people around the NBA have a lot of questions. There's
a lot of surprise, but there's going to be even
bigger conversations once there's more details about the why. I mean,
I think a simple answer is that Mark Walter is
going to get a two and a half billion dollar profit.
(28:17):
It's hard to turn down that.
Speaker 7 (28:18):
Kind of money.
Speaker 9 (28:19):
Yep, I would get it if I had that opportunity,
but you know, with everything going on where he's under
federal investigation because of different expenses that he owes. You know,
we're not judged during an executioner, but I don't think
it takes a lawyer or a judge to connect the
dots and think there has to be some sort of connection,
and then wonder is he eventually going to sell the
(28:41):
Dodgers or the Sparks or any other properties so that
he can address those debts. As of now, the messaging
is that it's the Lakers and only the Lakers, but
there's a lot of questions with that. I don't think
that the NBA is going to disprove of this move.
It's going to be up for a vote board governors.
But I think it raises questions on a few things.
(29:04):
Did the NBA have any idea that there were some
business concerns with Mark walsher portfolio? And if so, why
did they still green light the purchase, you know, two
years ago and in this upcoming purchase. You know, there's
questions to be asked for philosophically, Even though the NBA
is in the business to make money, I think they're
(29:25):
also in the business to have ownership groups and owners
that look at the franchise as a trust and a
steward as opposed to something that you said, Monsie can
be flipped like a house. So those are a lot
of fair questions to be asked. And I think for
you know, the Lakers and their fans most in particular,
it's okay, how's this going to affect basketball? How much
(29:46):
are ticket price is going to increase even more? I
think it's inevitable even without new ownership, prices are going
to go up, up and up. But what's the severity
of it? And so there's going to be a lot
of things that we're going to learn in these next
month or two Fox.

Sports Rado Ambia Inside and Mark Medina is sitting in
with the odd couple now Jane and Daniels in college
football is not getting his jersy retired. That's a big hullabaloo.
Of course, we talked about it. But Kevin Garnet's jersey's
going to be retired by the Timberwolves later this season.
It was announced earlier today. Mark, do you think that
would have happened if Glenn Taylor were still the owner?
Speaker 9 (30:20):
That is a fantastic question, because you know, and alluded to,
Glenn Taylor and Kevin Garnett had a kind of a
falling out because Kevin Garnett thought he was going to
be some part of some ownership group. Glenn Taylor had
cold feet. I think, you know, there's a reason why
Kevin Garnett eventually was willing to accommodate a trade request
(30:42):
that he could win a championship. You know, he is
a player that's very loyal and he felt like, hey,
he's mister Minnesota, He's going to win there. They did
have six playoff success, but they couldn't quite ever get
over that home, partly because of ownerships. So I don't
want to say it would have never happened, but It
definitely made it easier that there is new ownership headline
(31:05):
by Alex Rodriguez for this to happen. And I think
it's very very fitting and right on point that they
did this when they're playing the Boston Celtics. So I
think for Kevin Garnett, he can really basket in as well.
I mean, I think you know, most people obviously in
Minnesota around around the NBA view him more as the
Timberwolves because he was that franchise guy. But understandably he's
(31:28):
also associated with Celtics because he did help deliver that
championship in two thousand and eight and that broke that
drought that they had since nineteen eighty seven. So it
is cool that they're able to make it full circle.

I do think it's a cool idea, and no, I
don't think any other league can do it.

There's something about baseball.

I don't know if it's because it's been around for
so long and it's America's pastime, or maybe that the
speed of baseball is just slower than the speed of basketball, football, hockey.
Even though hockey does an outdoor game, they kind of
do something very different. I don't as cool as Field
of Dreams. The Field of Dreams game is for baseball

and how much people enjoy it. I don't think another
league can do it. They can try, but it's not
gonna be as effective. There's there's a nostalgia that comes
with baseball, and so it works. There's so many I

think they're going to be really good, but at the
end of the season, I think it's going to be
an adjustment period. So I don't see them winning the

but as far as winning the division, you got to

Think it definitely is disrespect.

But the NBA.

They're all about disrespect. They know that gets rating sodas drama.
So does Lebron James. So it's natural that they would
fit those two teams together because they are the ultimate
contrast the New York Necks any champions. They won the
NBA Championship because of continuity and it wasn't just star power. Yes,
Jalen Brown, Brunt in Corinthine Towns are all stars, but

it's about that total team. Philadelphia seventy six ers, they've underachieved.
Now they have a super team with Jalen Brown, Lebron
James and how do they make it all work. But
you know, I've talked to some people in the Knicks organization.
I think it's telling that they kind of brushed it
off their shoulder a little bit, like jay Z Like,
it's kind of one of those things that they feel
so empowered and confident that what they've accomplished that nothing

is really going to phase them.

Well, speaking of those Sixers, we open the show talking
about how they don't play a Western Conference team until
the eighteenth game of the season. They don't play a
road game against the Western team till the twenty first game.
They don't have a Western Conference road trip until Christmas.
They have the least amount of three games in four nine.
They have the least amount of back to backs. Mark.
Why does the NBA keep cowtowing to Lebron.

Because he still gets ratings. I mean, look, I thought
it was going to be Sixers Celtics Christmas Day game.
From a basketball standpoint, that is the best reunion game
because of Jalen Brown's trade. He actually had his entire
career in Boston, won a championship. It was a very
emotional fallout afterwards. But the NBA, it's not just about basketball,

it's what's going to move the needle in the soap opera.
So that's why they scheduled the Sixers to play the
Lakers for the first time on Christmas Day, as well
as maybe keive Lebron a solid that he can visit
his family in Lay. Now, I do add some caveats,
rob G. When it comes to Eastern Conference team Western
Conference teams, it's fairly typical that they don't, you know,

move coast until later on in this season.

They usually have some home heavy uh you know stands,
and then you know, some road games are usually on
the same coast or you know, at least in Central time.

you know, they're already tying the Lakers, the Spurs, the
Knicks for most national TV games, which is thirty four.

And I get it, they're talented, but look, the Spurs
got the finals last season, the Knicks won the championship.
The Lakers are the Lakers and they still have Luka Dacic.
The thunder have thirty one, you know, national TV games,
less than the Sixers, and they were in the Western
Conference finals last year. So yeah, when it comes to

Lebron and super teams, it's not always about the team
on the floor. It's you know, the soap opera that
comes with us.

Let's shift gears a little bit.

You mentioned the Lakers and Luka Doncic and all of that,
the selling of the Lakers that came out of nowhere.

I don't know if the plan was always.

To flip the Lakers like flipping a house, but what
what have you heard? What is the conversation surrounding this,
because I feel like it should be a bigger topic
of conversation and it's not.
Speaker 9 (27:56):
Yeah, moms, thee I think you're right. I mean, it
is a huge topic of conversation, to be clear, and
people around the NBA have a lot of questions. There's
a lot of surprise, but there's going to be even
bigger conversations once there's more details about the why. I mean,
I think a simple answer is that Mark Walter is
going to get a two and a half billion dollar profit.
(28:17):
It's hard to turn down that.
Speaker 7 (28:18):
Kind of money.
Speaker 9 (28:19):
Yep, I would get it if I had that opportunity,
but you know, with everything going on where he's under
federal investigation because of different expenses that he owes. You know,
we're not judged during an executioner, but I don't think
it takes a lawyer or a judge to connect the
dots and think there has to be some sort of connection,
and then wonder is he eventually going to sell the
(28:41):
Dodgers or the Sparks or any other properties so that
he can address those debts. As of now, the messaging
is that it's the Lakers and only the Lakers, but
there's a lot of questions with that. I don't think
that the NBA is going to disprove of this move.
It's going to be up for a vote board governors.
But I think it raises questions on a few things.
(29:04):
Did the NBA have any idea that there were some
business concerns with Mark walsher portfolio? And if so, why
did they still green light the purchase, you know, two
years ago and in this upcoming purchase. You know, there's
questions to be asked for philosophically, Even though the NBA
is in the business to make money, I think they're
(29:25):
also in the business to have ownership groups and owners
that look at the franchise as a trust and a
steward as opposed to something that you said, Monsie can
be flipped like a house. So those are a lot
of fair questions to be asked. And I think for
you know, the Lakers and their fans most in particular,
it's okay, how's this going to affect basketball? How much
(29:46):
are ticket price is going to increase even more? I
think it's inevitable even without new ownership, prices are going
to go up, up and up. But what's the severity
of it? And so there's going to be a lot
of things that we're going to learn in these next
month or two Fox.
Speaker 3 (30:01):
Sports Rado Ambia Inside and Mark Medina is sitting in
with the odd couple now Jane and Daniels in college
football is not getting his jersy retired. That's a big hullabaloo.
Of course, we talked about it. But Kevin Garnet's jersey's
going to be retired by the Timberwolves later this season.
It was announced earlier today. Mark, do you think that
would have happened if Glenn Taylor were still the owner?

That is a fantastic question, because you know, and alluded to,
Glenn Taylor and Kevin Garnett had a kind of a
falling out because Kevin Garnett thought he was going to
be some part of some ownership group. Glenn Taylor had
cold feet. I think, you know, there's a reason why
Kevin Garnett eventually was willing to accommodate a trade request
(30:42):
that he could win a championship. You know, he is
a player that's very loyal and he felt like, hey,
he's mister Minnesota, He's going to win there. They did
have six playoff success, but they couldn't quite ever get
over that home, partly because of ownerships. So I don't
want to say it would have never happened, but It
definitely made it easier that there is new ownership headline
(31:05):
by Alex Rodriguez for this to happen. And I think
it's very very fitting and right on point that they
did this when they're playing the Boston Celtics. So I
think for Kevin Garnett, he can really basket in as well.
I mean, I think you know, most people obviously in
Minnesota around around the NBA view him more as the
Timberwolves because he was that franchise guy. But understandably he's

also associated with Celtics because he did help deliver that
championship in two thousand and eight and that broke that
drought that they had since nineteen eighty seven. So it
is cool that they're able to make it full circle.

Wanda lost. They just cared that there was a game
played in the cornfield and everyone was very excited about it.

cool idea and do you wish other leagues would do

I do think it's a cool idea, and no, I
don't think any other league can do it.

There's something about baseball.

I don't know if it's because it's been around for
so long and it's America's pastime, or maybe that the
speed of baseball is just slower than the speed of basketball, football, hockey.
Even though hockey does an outdoor game, they kind of
do something very different. I don't as cool as Field
of Dreams. The Field of Dreams game is for baseball

and how much people enjoy it. I don't think another
league can do it. They can try, but it's not
gonna be as effective. There's there's a nostalgia that comes
with baseball, and so it works. There's so many I
was like thinking, there's so many baseball movies, just an
endless amount of baseball movies.
