(00:25):
this pun.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
It is The Odd Couple. I'm Chris.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
He's Rob.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
We are live from the tirerag dot com studios. Tirerag
dot com will help you get there. They've got an
unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free row hazard protection, and
more than ten thousand recommend to installers. Tirerag dot com
is the way tire buying should be. We've got j King,
(00:54):
who's a Celtics reporter for the Athletic joining us at
the bottom of the hour. Obviously he will get us
already for these NBA finals, so you want to keep
it locked for that interview. But Rob Let's kind of
recap and this Western Conference Final that ended last night
again five or four games to one, the Dallas Mavericks
(01:20):
take out the Minnesota Timberwolves, who a lot of people,
including myself thought were going to beat Dallas in that series.
You correctly picked the Mavericks.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
I wasn't. With the t Wolves. I just wasn't.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
I mean, I was impressed of what they were able
to do Chris in beating Denver and winning a game seven,
coming back from twenty points, and I get it. But
that's where a lot of people were like, Wow, this team, Okay,
they looked dead for three straight games, they lost three
straight games, looked like they would look like they were dead,
and they came back from the dead and won.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
But I just like Dallas better. Yeah, they I mean
they also were the top defensive team in the league,
even though they didn't look like it last night. I
should have. I mean, I knew this. I just was
willing to overlook it. But the history of you know,
I mean, what Anthony Edwards was trying to do had
(02:17):
never been done in the history of the league. Larry Bird,
Bill Russell twenty four years old, when they led teams
to championships. Tim Duncan twenty three, Lebron twenty eight, I
think when he won his first ring, Jordan twenty seven,
twenty eight, whatever it was, It just that's never happened
(02:38):
that anybody that young has been the best player on
a team that won an NBA championship. I thought, with
Towns and Gobert and the rest of their supporting cast,
that yeah, while he's the best player, they had enough
good players around him that they could get it done.
But they didn't, And over the course of the series
we saw much why. I know, when that young has
(03:01):
led a team to a championship, you could see he's
still learning. He's still figuring it out when to be aggressive,
when to get the teammates involved, when to try to
take over, even Lord when or Rob not, when not
to talk trash. You know, he kind of said, you know,
he wasn't really tried Zeng, but it's like I got Kyrie,
(03:22):
and Kyrie came out there and showed you what time
you got me? All right, come on, young pump right.
And I also think Rob he was I mean, just
looking at him. He said it number one, But you
didn't need him to say it to think it, because
he looked physically exhausted early in the series. He looked
fine in the last few games, but I think what
(03:45):
that was was just emotional fatigue, you know, going like
he never played this many games and especially this many games,
when so many of them you're playing at such a
high level. Emotionally in the entire density is off the charts,
and I think he was worn down and so ultimately Rob,
(04:06):
I think this will be good for him. I'm not
guaranteeing he's gonna win the championship. I think he's good enough,
but there are some great players in the league, obviously
Luka Jokic, Johannis Winby's on the way. I think he
will win the championship. I'm not guaranteeing it, but I
do think he'll be better for this and this will
(04:27):
help him kind of on that role to win a championship.
What are your thoughts on Anthony Edwards after this series? Yeah,
I'm not better to bury the kiddy.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
He's twenty two. It was an incredible run. People had
questions you even did. I mean, you didn't think so
all that year.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
It was more just about the youth of the team. No,
I know, and that's what I meant.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
That's what I met like that, not just him, But
you didn't think that they were younger. I mean, we
haven't heard from Mark from Sacramento, you know, since they
got knocked out, But he was a guy who was
we shure have high on them, Chris.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
I'm just right. He was high on them, a man.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
And you you don't know what you I'm watching them
every night, and you know all that.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
I just got.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
The last time he called in, I told he was
we don't watch the games, right, I said, don't call
don't tell us we don't watch games. You have no
idea what we do. And I don't know that we've
heard from him since.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
But he but but and that's fine, and and nobody
nobody's like disrespecting him or thinking Chris that he doesn't
have a shot. I'm talking about Yeah, I'm talking about
aunt man that that uh that that that there's an
idea that uh uh, mister Edwards won't get to where
(05:41):
he wants to go or win a championship or anything
like that.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
But I think it's a humbling experience.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
I'm sure when they felt like after they knocked off
the champs and they had the two home games and
they thought, my god, and then before you know it, Chris,
you look up and you're down O three.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
And it's like, wow, what what what happened?
Speaker 3 (06:01):
Lucy?
Speaker 1 (06:04):
But I think that was there was an emotional letdown
after that. You know, it was almost like we felt
they felt like they won their championship. They took out
the team that everybody thought was gonna win it all,
you know, and they probably weren't robbed a little overconfident
in games, especially game one, maybe game two, but especially
(06:28):
game one, and that obviously came back to bite them.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
Yeah, it came back to buy them big time. And
it's a learning experience. That's what you have to do.
But there's no guarantee either, Chris No, that they're gonna
make it back. And Okay, next year, we hit that
all the time of our team. Oh yeah, we'll just
regroup and we'll be there next year. Really really like
(06:53):
it's not automatic.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
Okay, See he's gonna be better. New Orleans should be better,
Sacramento still be good.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
There's a lot of teams, there's a lot of the
you know minds everywhere.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
Chris out West, yep, no question. So they better get better.
But I believe a man will. He's got a new
commercial out rob that was interesting. He's talking about taking receipts.
We got it. We can play it as far as Adidas.
He got the AE Ones. Anthony Edwards one sneakers which
are pretty tight. But here's the commercial. Hey, what's up
(07:29):
with the machine?
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Though? That's for my receipts.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Receipts.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
Yeah, I hear all the hate.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
Yo. Ed Carmelo said, are you committed to really going
out there and being.
Speaker 5 (07:41):
The face of the league because they're doing that turn.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
Around too loosely.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
Okay.
Speaker 6 (07:46):
Camera said to me, he's an all star, but.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
Not a superstar yet.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Buddy, it is what it ain't. What else they say?
Speaker 1 (07:54):
Slip the most overrated athlete. Oh it's a good one.
Does he really love the game?
Speaker 6 (08:00):
Look like he's even I don't noticed that he complains
a bit happened to the next American product in the wild.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
But they're saying it's the brother y'all gonna.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
Get It's only the beginning because I'm not who they
think I am. I'm better believe that.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
How you like? My co host, Kevin Wilde's name is
mentioned in the I heard, I heard and camera Yes,
Cameron Carmelo, Anthony and Kevin Wilds. What are your thoughts
on the commercial? That's cool? Keep all those receipts.
Speaker 4 (08:35):
I mean, that's that's I mean, that's what kids say
it's the term Chris who keeping receipts.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
And all that kind of stuff. I don't know. Did
he have receipts after this series? What about those receipts?
Speaker 4 (08:45):
He should all right, so hold on to hold on
to those receipts too.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
Uh. And then it's all good. I like the commercial.
I like him because you know, you put that out there,
and you had you put you mentioned Carmelo's name. That's
an all time great. You're saying, bring it on. It's reminiscent.
Now it's backfired on Lebron Rob, but reminiscentce. Remember when
(09:11):
Lebron first went to Miami and he was gonna be
the villain like and I think there was a Nike
commercial where he was the villain and all that, but
that wasn't his personality. I do think this commercial is
in line with Anthony Edwards. But he's got to go
to work. He's still as great as he is already.
(09:32):
He still can work on his game. One thing you
saw Rob and look, these are just two gifted shooters.
I'm not saying he'll get to this level of jump shot,
but Kyrie and Luca, it's all At times, it's like
you're surprised when they miss. You know, especially in the
mid range threes. You know, come and go. Forty percent
(09:56):
is great on threes, but in the mid range, those
two they get a little space. They bump, you move
and fade and they got that space and then they
hit it like and he can improve that. He obviously
can go to the bucket. He is a good shooter,
but keep working on that, Jay, because you saw with
(10:17):
Luka Kyrie and Kyrie Rob, they they're I mean, they
can do it all offensively. They can go to the
rim and finish, they can handle, they can pass, they
can score in the mid range, and they can shoot
the three. And there are a lot of guys in
the league that they're great three point shooters, don't use
the mid range much, or they can drive and score
(10:41):
and maybe shoot the mid range, but not the three
like these two have it all. And Anthony Edwards should
take that and learn from it because Rob Jamichael Jordan
wasn't a tremendous shooter when he entered the league and
when he left the league, he was arguably the greatest
mid range shooter ever and he's one of them still
in that conversation, and so uh, he needs to just
(11:02):
put in that work if he wants to be the guy,
because dudes are coming. Rob. We mentioned Luca, we mentioned Yok,
we mentioned Giannis, you got Sga Wimby. Eventually is gonna
be be out there. It is, Jason Tatum and the
Celtics aren't going anywhere, you know. So that's just to
(11:22):
mention a few that's not even mentioning the old heads.
So it's good for him. I think he'll learn from
it and be better for it. So I think we
we'll look back at this, Rob and maybe there'll be
another series we add to this, but we'll look back
and say this was him going through his growing pains,
(11:44):
like Jordan did with the Pistons, like the Pistons did
with the Celtics, like Lebron did at times, you know,
with the Spurs being swept. This this will be you know,
his his even Luca has had his playoff disappointments, and
so we'll see if he's up to the task. Robert,
(12:04):
I think he is, but he just got to keep working.
Speaker 4 (12:07):
Yeah, But the fire has definitely like been put out
a little bit. Like people were ready, Chris, they thought, well,
my god, twenty two. You know, there was all this
talk buzz, the Michael Jordan stuff. I mean, he was
on fire and everybody was raving about him and thinking,
look at what this twenty two year old kid the games.
(12:27):
He was putting up forty points and was like, wow,
look at the hero. He's breaking through all these things
that we thought you had to do, you know, to
get to that point. Everybody was ready to pick him
to go to the finals. Yes, oh, look at the Timberwolves.
Look at that man, My god, he's aarrived. No, not yet.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
Do you think that? Because I think with the Michael
Jordan comparisons, in my mind, certainly my thoughts, but I
think with mo others it was more stylistic, you see.
But I don't think I personally, and I've said this
(13:10):
from the first day I mentioned him and Jordan in
the same breath, I don't think he'll ever be like
in the conversation or top ten player like that. So
I don't think. I don't think. Maybe I'm wrong. I
don't think people were saying he's going to ever be
like as good or arguably as good as Jordan. But
I think they're saying the game is has similarities. Even
(13:33):
Jordan said that texting.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
I get that, but whenever you mentioned that guy's name
with anybody, Chris, people gonna have extremely high expectations.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
Oh and they should for him. I just don't think
there as high as like top ten player of all time,
That's all I'm saying. Yeah, no, I hear you.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
The chances of that are pretty slim, just because of
what it is you have to do to.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
Make it happen. That's right. I think he's more of
Dwayne Wade love, which is great. I think Dwayne Wade
is one of the top five shooting guards of all time.
And if Edwards can get in that discussion, then he's
had a phenomenal career. But he's got a long way
to go for that. So we will see, all right,
(14:20):
eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox You'll turn the
way in. Do you think this series will wind up
this series loss will wind up being good for Anthony Edwards?
And what do you see for him in the future.

the NBA Championships MVPs? What is it your thoughts next?

what the doctor ordered? Your thoughts? What's the future hole
for ant?
Speaker 3 (16:11):
Chris?
Speaker 4 (16:11):
Let's kick it off with Josh and Arizona. You're on
the eye couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (16:15):
What's up, Josh?
Speaker 7 (16:17):
How y'all doing. It's always a pleasure to be on
here with y'all. I'm okay, I'm okay. Two things. One,
Anthony Edwards, nobody should say a damaging thing about him.
Obviously got to take his medicine.
Speaker 8 (16:32):
But he is the future.
Speaker 7 (16:35):
He's bringing basketball back to what I used to watch
when I grew up, being that competitor, not being so
buddy buddy, playing defense and wanting to rip your heart
out out there. That's what I like. That's what I'm
behind him one hundred percent, So I don't you know,
I'm not shooting down on the kid at all. The
second thing I would say is, Chris.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
I love you.
Speaker 7 (16:56):
But Dwayne Wade is not top five, he is top three.
You're not gonna name another guy.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
Jerry West Jordan's Jars.
Speaker 7 (17:07):
Jerry West went to the finals eleven times and one one.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
He went nine times in one one. He kept losing
the ball us. He's a guard in that day, and
age in that day, and Age Guards didn't win. Oscar
Robertson didn't win until he got Korea. Him getting to
the finals that often. Look at his numbers, dude was bad.
Speaker 7 (17:28):
I'm not taking you taking Darry West over d Wade. Yes, absolutely,
I kind of hurt my heart, but I got look at.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
Go look at the numbers, google them. But even even
d Wade, even d Wade, look and the look d Wade,
I got him top five. He's great, but he won
it with Shaq. Shaq was at the end of his prime,
and d Wade was great in those finals and then
outside of the one until Lebron got there. And even
(17:58):
after Lebron left, d Wade was struggling in the playoffs.
There's getting me in the first round, maybe the second round.
I mean they were struggling. So yeah, d Wade's great,
but nah, definitely Jerry West in my mind.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
All right, appreciate that call. Thank you so much. Odd couple,
Fox Sports Radio. Let's go with Elvis in Alabama. You're
in the eye couple.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
What's up?
Speaker 8 (18:22):
What's going on?
Speaker 5 (18:23):
Guys?
Speaker 8 (18:23):
They wanna jump right to it because I need just
a minute. Look, man, preface this with two things. I'm
not trying to disc aftery Edwards at all. He's a
fine player, fine young player, and I feel like he's
gonna end up being certainly a great player. But we
need to stop bringing up Jordan's name and comparing this
dude to Jordan's or anybody to Jordan's when they have
(18:45):
a six week run where they have a few nice
dunks and come on, man, let's just call it what
it is. The dude jump Himes. He's got a pretty jumper, right.
Jordan was so much more than that, even at this
stage of his career, even I mean he's dropping sixty
three on the Celtics with no help. Let's stop trying
to bring in the next Jordan. It's an upfront to
(19:07):
Jordan's and his legacy to bring things like this up,
saying who is he?
Speaker 1 (19:12):
The next Jordan?
Speaker 8 (19:13):
Might be the next Jordan's forget it, man, Jordan is
the man.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Well, look, comparing people to Jordan used to be the
kiss of death. No Jerry Stackhouse, Harrold Minor Baby. His
nickname was Baby Jab Jordan rob. It is littered with
guy and someone went on to have good careers, but
a lot of them disappointed in that not only were
(19:37):
they not Jordan obviously, but not didn't live up to
being quite as good as people expected. So yeah, I
mean I hear where he's coming from.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
Rob.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
It's tough and Anthony Everards, Rob even said, don't compare
me to Michael Jordan.
Speaker 4 (19:51):
Yeah, it's just that because whenever you hear that name,
it's just the lofty goals and what you're trying to say,
and then anything short of that, Chris, your disappointment, you know,
I mean, it's just it's not a comparison you want.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
If you can can do without.
Speaker 4 (20:05):
Scott in North Carolina, you're in the couple Fox Sportuitio.
Speaker 1 (20:09):
What's up, Scott?
Speaker 3 (20:11):
What's up?
Speaker 9 (20:11):
My guys? How y'all done? Don good Man? I mean
I think this is this is what he needed. I mean,
no twenty two year old ever got it done like that.
I mean, I'm twenty two. I can't imagine my stuff
winning the championship. I mean he was a croud nah,
you know, everybody was on the top. I mean with
(20:31):
his game wise, I think he should improve on the post.
I mean he brought it out a little bit against Denver.
I mean I think he should prove on that and
maybe kind of spriggling some pick and roll with Cat
kind of taking to take both of the games in
this level. But I mean I can see him winning
the MVP.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
I mean, he.
Speaker 9 (20:49):
Plays all you want to play, He played both sides.
I mean I can see him maybe getting the championship
in there. I mean he got a bright future.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
No, that's a good call. That's a good call. All right.
It is the Odd Couple, Chris and Rob. As we
said earlier, Jay King is around the corner.
Speaker 2 (21:06):
But first be sure to catch live editions of The
Odd Couple with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at

Speaker 1 (21:19):
Next guest covers the Celtics for the Athletic We welcome
in Jay King.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
Jay welcome, Thanks for having me, well, so.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
Good to have you on. Man, let's get right to it.
I think this is this looks like a great finals
matchup on paper. But the Celtics are you know, not
like overwhelming favorites, but pretty solid favorites. Are you surprised
by that?
Speaker 10 (21:45):
No? No, I wasn't surprised by that. They've they've been
so good all season. You know, they won sixty four
games during the regular season, took care of business, never
lost three straight games. Their net rating was about eleven,
which is one of the best in NBA history. And
obviously they've had a pretty fortunate playoff path.
Speaker 7 (22:04):
They haven't faced anybody fortunate.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
How about the easiest in the history of the league.
You know what in some places.
Speaker 4 (22:12):
In some places they might call it NBA welfare.
Speaker 10 (22:15):
I'm just saying, but they taken care of business in
the playoffs too, and going twelve and two and sweeping
the Pacers, although three of those four games are really
close in the conference finals. I'm not surprised, just because
just because of everything they've done throughout this run, just
because at every turn they've they've been great this season.
Speaker 1 (22:38):
I'm with you, Chris.
Speaker 4 (22:40):
I don't know what game was that when I finally
said they're going to win the NBA Championship we were.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
I think it was like after maybe Game three or
something like that, where they don't Sometimes they.
Speaker 4 (22:50):
Look really bad and you get frustrated. You watch them
and you can't understand why they're not blowing out some
of the opponents, and the games are so close, but
good teams win games that even when they don't play
their best, and all they've done, as you said, is win,
And I just think that their time has come, a good,
easy path, you know, to the finals, twelve and two,
(23:14):
undefeated on the road. I just think that their time
has finally come. And if this team doesn't win a championship,
then I don't know when they will win a championship,
probably never, because I really believe like this is their year.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
Are you with me?
Speaker 3 (23:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (23:29):
It feels like everything led up to this moment, right
Like Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown had to fail deep
in the playoffs to get to the level where they
are now. The previous score had to fail so that
they felt urgency to go out and get Chris Topsporzingis
and Drew Holliday. I just feel like the way they've
(23:49):
approached this whole season, they've done it with another level
of maturity that they never had in the past. I
think Joe Miszula has really come into his own during
his second seas and as a coach. He's far more
comfortable in what he's doing, and it was just a crazy,
crazy circumstances for him last year. After the suspension of
Emi Udoka. So I just think it was the right
(24:13):
time for this team to come together, the right time
for all those players from Tatum Brown Orzingis, Drew Holliday,
Derek White, where they're still in their primes, but they're
also willing to commit fully to the team and not
have any individual agendas. So I kind of agree with you.
If they don't win with this team, if they don't
(24:34):
win with this opportunity, you wonder will they ever do it?
Speaker 1 (24:39):
You saw how good Luca and Kyrie were against Minnesota,
and that was the top defense in the league. How
do you like the Celtics matchups with those two, Like,
what do you think they do? I mean, obviously they're
going to get their points, but to slow them down
and not let them own the series the way they
did against Minnesota.
Speaker 10 (24:58):
Yeah, I think obviously. You know, Luka is the key
for them. He's the one who sets up everything orchestrates everything.
And Kyrie is fantastic, he's mesmerizing, he's as good as
it gets, basically as a second scorer. I think the Celtics,
like to me, a lot of this series will come
(25:19):
down to how they're able to help off the the
Mavericks non shooters, and whether the Mavericks can make them
pay for that Ken porzingis guard Derek Jones Junior and
be in the paint, protecting the rim, limiting Luka Doncic
and Kyrie Irving, or will the Mavericks find counters to that,
whether it's Jones hitting threes or some other method to
(25:41):
just loosen that up a little bit. Because the other
side of the ball, the Mavericks defense has been incredible
since since early February, they were stopping tops in the league.
Over the last twenty games during the regular season, they
have surrounded Doncic and Kyrie with nothing but long, athletic,
(26:02):
defensive minded pieces. Derek Lively for a rookie is just
insanely polished at that end. Doncic and Kyrie, those guys
have really bought in in a way that they probably
haven't in Kyrie for Kyrie maybe in years, Dodges maybe ever.
And and so I think on both ends, like I'm
really looking forward to the matchups in this one.
Speaker 4 (26:23):
How about the people of Boston. Do they love this
team or are they frustrated by this team? Where is
this team on the Richter scale or on the scale
in Boston, you know, because nationally it seems like a
lot of people are frustrated with the Celtics. Are fans
in Boston that way too.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
No, I don't think so.
Speaker 10 (26:43):
I think they're enjoying the ride. I think they've watched
these guys grow up. They've watched Jason Tatum and Jalen
Brown for their entire careers. They've watched those guys from
when I don't want to call them selfish players, but
they hadn't learned yet how to maximize themselves for team ball,
and so they've watched them go through all of that stuff,
the growing pains. They watched them go through the tough
(27:06):
season with Kyrie Irving when there was all sorts of dysfunction,
and now I think everybody in Boston loves this team.
I think a lot of other places maybe like the
reaction has been different. But in Boston this has been
a team that takes care of business, beats teams, and
beats teams by a lot. So I think the Celtics
(27:31):
fans I really appreciating this. Although now in the finals
it's going to be a totally different challenge. I don't
want to say this playoff run has been boring, but
it has not felt fully like the playoffs yet. And
with Kyrie back in Boston, with Luca against Tatum, it's
going to be an incredible matchup in the finals.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
I think, well, Tatum is a guy that's been criticized.
I think it's gotten unfair, you know what I mean.
I mean, the dude was average. He averaged thirty ten
and five or thirty ten and six actually against Indiana,
and at times people were saying he wasn't playing well,
you know, when he played when he had the ten
points in the overtime of Game one against Indiana, people
(28:15):
were saying Jalen Brown saved him, you know, with that
big shot at the end of regulation. But that said,
that is kind of the narrative out there. He didn't
finish top five in the MVP voting. I thought he
should have. He was in my top five on my ballot.
But do you think how much does that get to
(28:36):
Jason And is there any chance of him going out
there trying to kind of, you know, show people that
he's that guy that he's clutched and maybe getting outside
of the offense a little bit, trying to you know,
quiet his his haters.
Speaker 10 (28:55):
Yeah, I think early in his season that would have
been a fear for the Celtics. Will he get out
of it himself? Will will he try to go one
on one ball? Will he try to prove everyone wrong
instead of just winning the game. And now, one of
the most impressive things to me throughout this whole Celtic
season has been how they've ignored all of that stuff.
(29:17):
And they know it's out there, they realize it's out there,
but they've put it aside and just focused on team basketball.
I think that's probably the biggest maturation in their rosters
that no matter what's happening around them, they've been willing
to sacrifice. They've been willing to make the right play.
And it hasn't always been that way, and I think
it's tough for young guys. You know, you hear all
that stuff, you see all that stuff on TV, and
(29:39):
the instinct must be I've got to go get mine tonight.
I've got to change the conversation around me. And they've
really stayed away from that, and I think in a
lot of cases the conversation has kind of been formed,
not so much this year as much as over the
last few few seasons. You know, people still remember how
poorly Jason hay And played in the finals in twenty
(30:01):
twenty two. People still remember Jalen Brown's Game seven last
season against the Miami Heat, how he had eight turnovers
and and so a lot of the conversation. He keeps
that in their minds and keeps that fresh, and the
only way to beat it, the only way to beat
the allegations is to win a title. And I think
that they've realized that it's not about how.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
They play anymore.
Speaker 10 (30:24):
It's let's let's go do this together. Let's let's win
as a as a team. And I think Joe Mizula
deserves some credit for that. But I think the players
are in the right place in their career and they've
always been about the right stuff, but I don't think
they always knew how to go about it, and now
I think they do.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
Before you go, how's porzingis? We assume you'll play game one,
but you know, how's his health? And how ready is
he to go?
Speaker 10 (30:49):
Yeah, he's getting better. After practice today we saw him
shooting some jump shots. He did some drills in practice.
The good thing for him is he's had a lot
of time it's it's been a lot of time. He's
got time to ramp up, time to kind of take it,
take it cautious. Because of how quickly the Celtics took
(31:10):
care of business in the Eastern Conference Finals. He didn't
have to rush back to come back and help them
in that series. With with still a week more to
until the finals begins, I think you'll see a pretty
good version of Chris STAPs early in the finals.
Speaker 4 (31:24):
All right, all right, going to the NBA Finals game
in Boston. Should I wheel my earl plugs when Kyrie
steps out on a court in Boston?
Speaker 10 (31:32):
No, you should not wear your ear plugs. You should.
You should soak it in.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
It'll be fine.
Speaker 1 (31:38):
A lot of four letter words I've been saying. I
know that I still hate Kyrie in Boston.
Speaker 10 (31:46):
Yeah, it's funny because a lot of that stuff kind
of died down over the last few years and.
Speaker 1 (31:51):
A championship because they were.
Speaker 10 (31:55):
All coming back, right, all coming back. It's gonna be
like his two thousd nineteen again. Yeah, and it's the
first time he's come back, so it's gonna be a
charge up p D Garden on Thursday night.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
All right, that's Jay King Boston Celtics report for The
Athletic Thanks man.
Speaker 10 (32:11):
Great stuff, Thanks for having me on, guys, yeap.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
Shop Talks next A couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
All right, it's The Odd Couple live from the Tirerag
dot Com studios. It's time for shop Talk.
Speaker 11 (32:35):
That's right, it is shop Talk here on the ot
Couple of Fox Sports Radio. Seme where we talk about
something happened outside of the world is sports. This week's
topic once again comes to us from Hollyweird, where the
new trailer for the latest George Clooney Brad Pitt movie
came out yesterday. It's called Wolf's looks pretty good. Check
it out if you hadn't Wolves, not Wolves, the vies
(32:55):
Wolf and then added s so wolves dramatically about. It's
a two guys who look like they're both fixers in
the underworld. So if you've ever seen the movie Pulp Fiction,
they have an accidental shooting and a guy comes in
called the Wolf and he cleans it all up and
nobody knows the wiser. Well, these two guys both do
that and they kind of get tricked into doing the
(33:16):
same job and having to work together. So it looks
good if you haven't checked out the trailer looks good.
But it got me thinking, guys, this is their gonna
be their seventh movie that they've made together in their career.
The previous sixth so far, adjusted for inflation, have made
over two billion dollars everything they touched with the b
(33:36):
So it got me thinking, who is the best or
your favorite duo in Hollywood history?
Speaker 1 (33:41):
With are you Christopher Sard? Well, I'm gonna go back
to my childhood and this probably won't be a lot
of people, so it might be a lot of black people's,
but rob you, Bill Cosby and Sydney Portier Uptown Ninetown Saturday,
not Let's do it Again A piece of the action
(34:03):
that Triumvirate. The piece of the action wasn't nearly as good.
But the first two were classics and I loved them.
And I'm gonna throw another one at you that I
just enjoyed. There this stuff. How about Burt Reynolds and
Sally Fields smoking and the band did and all that.
(34:24):
Remember that stuff. Rob, They were in a few movies together,
But I like, I liked them too, So, I mean,
I know that's not the those aren't the most popular names,
but so so Rob g. It's the duos who did
a few movies together.
Speaker 11 (34:40):
If you think they did one that was so outstanding
that it overlaps. But it's kind of hard to make
that argument, ro.
Speaker 4 (34:46):
You know what, And I don't know, Chris, I know,
I'm just a stretch because it's right, there's Will.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
Smith and Martin Lawrence. Right, they made a few movies too.
They got what is it? Bad Boys? Like four coming
to Bad Boys nineteen is coming out? Bad Boys were good.
Those were good movies. But I was thinking, you're gonna
watch the fourth one. I probably I enjoyed the first.
I know I saw at least the first two. The
first two were great and might as well as well
(35:14):
the third one. I thought the third one too, that
was good too.
Speaker 11 (35:17):
Yeah, it George four because it came out during the COVID,
so it didn't get as much fanfare.
Speaker 1 (35:23):
How about Richard Pryor and Jean Walder? Did they do
more than one movie or crazy? And was it busting
not not busting lose, was it busting Stir Crazy was
the first that was great, and that was that was
really funny. I thought that. I thought they worked together.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
Robers.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
You ever see that. I've seen part of it.
Speaker 11 (35:43):
I've never seen the whole thing beginning done.
Speaker 1 (35:45):
I remember going and I think I was in eighth
grade and it was an R rated movie and what
are you doing this?
Speaker 3 (35:51):
I know no.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
My parents took me and my brother and my uncle
and my uncle was like, what are y'all doing here?
And were just like sat there, like, don't.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
Say nothing, don't blow up right?
Speaker 1 (36:04):
What are you doing? Exactly? But that was I don't know.
There was one more rive that they did. I thought
it out.
Speaker 5 (36:11):
I just don't remember. I know that they had some magic.
Though Google has four movies for them. They see no
Evil Here, No Evil, Silver Streaks, Stir Crazy, another You.
Speaker 1 (36:23):
Another You. I don't remember, but the other three I do.
I don't know. What do you got?
Speaker 3 (36:29):
Well?
Speaker 11 (36:29):
See, this is a tough one because I tried to
eliminate like franchise movies because if that's the case, then
it's like Stallone and caral Weathers, you know, but that's
just all one fri so it's hard, right, So for me,
and it's a tough one, it's de Niro and Joe
Pesci because I think that they're I mean, they did
several movies together, but if you go Fellas, Fellas Casino
and then most recently The Irishman, and all of those
(36:51):
are like Academy Award winning performances. When those guys are
together for whatever reason, no matter what the storyline.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
Is it was, it's usually usually right.
Speaker 11 (37:02):
But but it's like they just got a certain chemistry
with each other that that works.
Speaker 1 (37:07):
Now that that's fair. I mean, the neuro obviously is legendary,
and Patty's great too, So that's a good one. That's
a good one. Mary Mary, Mary, Yeah, got anything? You
got any favorite duos in Hollywood? Anything with the Rock
and Kevin Hart. I'm not gonna lie that they're really
they're pretty good. They're pretty good.
Speaker 10 (37:27):
Be Google.
Speaker 1 (37:29):
I googled, you know, like best Hollywood duos or something,
and they came up. I mean their movies. I kind
of thought, what but I don't even like Kevin Hart,
but their movies together are really good. Like I lough
at them all the time. Did they have one central
intelligence Jilang.
Speaker 3 (37:47):
Jiang.
Speaker 1 (37:48):
That comes on all the time. I can't get into that.
Speaker 11 (37:51):
Well, Rob, you don't watch anything that happened after like
ninety five.
Speaker 1 (37:54):
That's ninety five, about seventy five, like twenty five? Wow,
what was this pylon?
Speaker 5 (38:01):
Rob?
Speaker 1 (38:01):
Friday Night?
Speaker 11 (38:02):
It's not piling on if it's true, though, So what
if I'm watching Pluto TV?
Speaker 1 (38:06):
And would you guys leave me? She wrote? As a classic,
that's a great I have never even seen. I don't
even know what that is. So yeah, bits and pieces.
I probably saw a few whole episodes. I bet you
your wife watched murder, she wrote.
Speaker 4 (38:23):
Angela Lansbury, Angela Lansbury is a great actress, Angela lan.
Speaker 9 (38:28):
Yeah, so I think that, and Ice Cuban, Mike Epps
there always the movies are really good too.
Speaker 1 (38:33):
Yeah, I mean yeah, but everybody can't be great.
Speaker 3 (38:38):
Mary.
Speaker 1 (38:39):
We gotta comment from the barbershop duo? Yeah only did
one though? Together? All right, keep it locked at our
left
