So the Big Twelve Conference is preparing to announce one
of the most sweeping conference sponsorship agreements in college sports history.
They finalized a multi year deal with Monster Energy worth
around twenty million dollars annually to make the company the
entitlement partner of the Big Twelve Football and then men's,
men's and women's basketball regular seasons as well. So it's

gonna kind of include two things. One of those things
is going to be a jersey patch that all players
are gonna have to wear.

From New Yorkergy. Oh, I say, jersey, I got you,
not new jerseys, a jersey. You could be a old
jar rob with you, Alex. Oh yeah, just enough.

And then the other is that the conference itself is
now going to be known as the Monster Energy Big
Twelve Football, at least for the football and then men's
and women's basketball.

for me, like you knew these places. That's a big
deal living here. Let's call it what it is. People

were accustomed to Staple Center. They still call a lot
of people still call it Staple Center. I'm surprised you

out for the title. And I know it sounds crazy,
but so many things happen over the you know, over

course of decades where you would have said that that's
never gonna happen. Shoot, you can go back far. And
now they say it ain't not gonna be no black
guys playing baseball, you know what I mean? Like you
never know? And I think we're getting closer and closer
to where it's it's gonna be. If you're not in
the Big ten at the SEC, it doesn't even matter ymore.
But but this is because clearly desperation for money. But
but even even the Dodgers with all the money, Like
the Dodgers even knew we can't rename Dodger Stadium. So

emotional with all this happening. You know, he's he's nine
years older than me, and I came into this world
with him playing baseball, and I've never known to day
in this world where he's not a baseball player. You know,
I'm and I'm thirty four now. It's pretty crazy, and

I'm just I'm so proud of the career he's had.
And you know, I ended up with a burning passion
and desire for the game of baseball because of this.
So it's been it's been quite the ride.

You just told me, you know, told us you were
watching this Tiger game as well against the A's.

You know, you may not know, I'm actually I'm from Michigan.

I'm born and raised an Aubert you know, and got
to still got a crib in Detroit, and so I
grew up watching him as well.
Speaker 3 (29:35):
Dude, when you think of him, is that where home
is for him? If you pictured it?
Speaker 4 (29:40):
He goes in the Hall of Fame? What jersey is
at the astros? Like, where do you picture him when
you think of him?

I feel like that's a two part question.

Where do I have you home?

And where's he going? What happens he wear in the
Hall of Fame is a tricky one to answer, but
I do, I think because look, it's easy to have
recency by especially you know, in sports, but as someone
that has watched his career from the very beginning, so

many of those memories go back to Detroit. You know,
from five when he made his debut on the fourth
of July through twenty seventeen, he basically had two separate
Hall of Fame careers, which is crazy to even think about,
but you know, I just I think it's so fitting
to end his career back in Detroit. And I know,
(30:30):
at least to this point, it has not gone near
as the way he wanted, but you know, there's still
a chance he can get back out on the mound
this year. It's just so fitting to end back in
Detroit where it all began. And you know, I think
about it all the time, and I know Justin does
as well. I truly don't know what hat he'll wear
(30:50):
into the Hall of Fame, but it's a good it's
a good problem to have.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
I know, people would like it to be Detroit.
Speaker 1 (30:59):
He won two World Series with the end, That's what
I was saying, like, I mean, it's gonna be hard
not to and Ben, you know what I mean. I
know he started with the Tigers and he had a
great career there before moving on, but you know, you
cement your name once you win a championship and then
he's won two there.
Speaker 11 (31:17):
Yeah, and you you know in Detroit twenty eleven Cy
Young and MVP in that year. But then he goes
to Houston and kind of revitalized his whole career. Obviously
twenty seventeen the year he got traded over there and
winning his first one, but then in twenty nineteen to
win his Cy Young Award. Then to go through, at
(31:39):
thirty seven years old, his first ever major injury and
have to get Tommy John surgery at thirty seven. Do
you know how many people at that point were saying up,
time caught up with him, he's done. What a great
career he's had. And then at thirty nine to come
back and not just have a great year, to have
(32:00):
one of the greatest seasons for a starting pitcher ever
and to win another cy Young and another championship in
twenty twenty two. Yeah, it's tough to you know, it's recency.
Biases is a real thing. And I do think he's
had a career in two different parts, and he's definitely
more decorated in his Houston career.
Speaker 3 (32:21):
Now, now you know, I vote for the Baseball Hall
of Fame.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
I think it's a layup that he'll make it into
the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
But the thing that's changed differently.
Speaker 1 (32:29):
I always had three magic numbers Ben three thousand hits,
five hundred home runs, and three hundred wins. Now what's
changed is it's hard, almost impossible to get three hundred
wins with the way pictures and whatnot. So now what
works is the three thousand strikeouts. And everybody not tainted
(32:50):
by juice who has the three thousand strikeouts basically are
in the Hall of Fame. So that's the new number
for pitchers. So obviously Verlanda has that as well. Do
you agree with that, considering that it's going to be
hard for anybody to get three hundred wins?
Speaker 2 (33:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (33:06):
Now, Rob, I'm not trying to put the pressure on
you here, the younger brother. There's no bias here. But
I do agree with you. I do think. Look, obviously,
I think my brother is a Hall of Famer, and
I think most everybody does. And the numbers eighth all
time and strikeouts, he's going to be in the.

Hall of Fame. I don't even well, trying to try
to sell us on to some you.
Speaker 11 (33:29):
Never know, no, No, what I'm trying to talk about
is the is the accolades. Because I had an interesting
conversation with John Smoltz today a little while ago about it,
and he said, you know, as a baseball fan, it's
kind of a sad time because there's going to be
a line in the Hall of Fame, and and that
line is going to be drawn at Justin Berlander and
(33:51):
Max Shr's are getting in on just a longevity perspective,
and and you know, it's kind of as a baseball
fan and myself that is kind of a sad reality.
But as a as a younger brother to the guy
it is. It's cool to think about the fact that
pitching pitching has changed, the game of baseball has changed.
(34:12):
But for Justin to rack up the number of innings
and the number of wins and the number of strikeouts,
it is going to We're going to look back in
fifty years and there's going to be a line of
the in the Hall of Fame, and that line's going to.

End with with Justin in terms of a.

True workhorse in baseball. And I'm not saying I want that.
It's just the way the game of baseball has trended.
And you know it's it's both sad as a baseball
fan and cool as a younger brother.

Man, I tell you what you may not know. I
do some pre and posted game here in LA with
the Dodgers. I get to sit around some of these
guys or Seize or no Marcarci Park doctre Willison to

signs that are disappointing, like just keep the guy in.
We just talked about the other the other day, somebody
wronged a perfect game. They're taking out guys with person

the end of the season. Just talk about your brother,
and man, what a career he's had, two hundred and

I was there, I covered his very first game.

I'm just thinking about how many years has gone by,
what a impressive resume.

How proud of you or your brother.

Yeah, it's tough not to not to feel a little
emotional with all this happening. You know, he's he's nine
years older than me, and I came into this world
with him playing baseball, and I've never known to day
in this world where he's not a baseball player. You know,
I'm and I'm thirty four now. It's pretty crazy, and

I'm just I'm so proud of the career he's had.
And you know, I ended up with a burning passion
and desire for the game of baseball because of this.
So it's been it's been quite the ride.

When you when you think of him.
Speaker 4 (29:21):
You just told me, you know, told us you were
watching this Tiger game as well against the A's.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
You know, you may not know, I'm actually I'm from Michigan.
Speaker 4 (29:28):
I'm born and raised an Aubert you know, and got
to still got a crib in Detroit, and so I
grew up watching him as well.
Speaker 3 (29:35):
Dude, when you think of him, is that where home
is for him? If you pictured it?
Speaker 4 (29:40):
He goes in the Hall of Fame? What jersey is
at the astros? Like, where do you picture him when
you think of him?
Speaker 11 (29:45):
I feel like that's a two part question.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
Where do I have you home?
Speaker 11 (29:49):
And where's he going? What happens he wear in the
Hall of Fame is a tricky one to answer, but
I do, I think because look, it's easy to have
recency by especially you know, in sports, but as someone
that has watched his career from the very beginning, so

many of those memories go back to Detroit. You know,
from five when he made his debut on the fourth
of July through twenty seventeen, he basically had two separate
Hall of Fame careers, which is crazy to even think about,
but you know, I just I think it's so fitting
to end his career back in Detroit. And I know,
(30:30):
at least to this point, it has not gone near
as the way he wanted, but you know, there's still
a chance he can get back out on the mound
this year. It's just so fitting to end back in
Detroit where it all began. And you know, I think
about it all the time, and I know Justin does
as well. I truly don't know what hat he'll wear
(30:50):
into the Hall of Fame, but it's a good it's
a good problem to have.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
I know, people would like it to be Detroit.
Speaker 1 (30:59):
He won two World Series with the end, That's what
I was saying, like, I mean, it's gonna be hard
not to and Ben, you know what I mean. I
know he started with the Tigers and he had a
great career there before moving on, but you know, you
cement your name once you win a championship and then
he's won two there.
Speaker 11 (31:17):
Yeah, and you you know in Detroit twenty eleven Cy
Young and MVP in that year. But then he goes
to Houston and kind of revitalized his whole career. Obviously
twenty seventeen the year he got traded over there and
winning his first one, but then in twenty nineteen to
win his Cy Young Award. Then to go through, at
(31:39):
thirty seven years old, his first ever major injury and
have to get Tommy John surgery at thirty seven. Do
you know how many people at that point were saying up,
time caught up with him, he's done. What a great
career he's had. And then at thirty nine to come
back and not just have a great year, to have
(32:00):
one of the greatest seasons for a starting pitcher ever
and to win another cy Young and another championship in
twenty twenty two. Yeah, it's tough to you know, it's recency.
Biases is a real thing. And I do think he's
had a career in two different parts, and he's definitely
more decorated in his Houston career.
Speaker 3 (32:21):
Now, now you know, I vote for the Baseball Hall
of Fame.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
I think it's a layup that he'll make it into
the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
But the thing that's changed differently.
Speaker 1 (32:29):
I always had three magic numbers Ben three thousand hits,
five hundred home runs, and three hundred wins. Now what's
changed is it's hard, almost impossible to get three hundred
wins with the way pictures and whatnot. So now what
works is the three thousand strikeouts. And everybody not tainted
(32:50):
by juice who has the three thousand strikeouts basically are
in the Hall of Fame. So that's the new number
for pitchers. So obviously Verlanda has that as well. Do
you agree with that, considering that it's going to be
hard for anybody to get three hundred wins?
Speaker 2 (33:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (33:06):
Now, Rob, I'm not trying to put the pressure on
you here, the younger brother. There's no bias here. But
I do agree with you. I do think. Look, obviously,
I think my brother is a Hall of Famer, and
I think most everybody does. And the numbers eighth all
time and strikeouts, he's going to be in the.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
Hall of Fame. I don't even well, trying to try
to sell us on to some you.
Speaker 11 (33:29):
Never know, no, No, what I'm trying to talk about
is the is the accolades. Because I had an interesting
conversation with John Smoltz today a little while ago about it,
and he said, you know, as a baseball fan, it's
kind of a sad time because there's going to be
a line in the Hall of Fame, and and that
line is going to be drawn at Justin Berlander and
(33:51):
Max Shr's are getting in on just a longevity perspective,
and and you know, it's kind of as a baseball
fan and myself that is kind of a sad reality.
But as a as a younger brother to the guy
it is. It's cool to think about the fact that
pitching pitching has changed, the game of baseball has changed.
(34:12):
But for Justin to rack up the number of innings
and the number of wins and the number of strikeouts,
it is going to We're going to look back in
fifty years and there's going to be a line of
the in the Hall of Fame, and that line's going to.

End with with Justin in terms of a.

True workhorse in baseball. And I'm not saying I want that.
It's just the way the game of baseball has trended.
And you know it's it's both sad as a baseball
fan and cool as a younger brother.

Man, I tell you what you may not know. I
do some pre and posted game here in LA with
the Dodgers. I get to sit around some of these
guys or Seize or no Marcarci Park doctre Willison to
hear them off camera talk about just the way in
which the game has changed and how you know their
signs that are disappointing, like just keep the guy in.
We just talked about the other the other day, somebody
wronged a perfect game. They're taking out guys with person

I hate two pictures or whatever, ninety two pictures. It's like,
what are we doing right now? So you know I'm
with you on that. Hey, wish and your brother all
