Speaker 3 (01:47):
Rob Dibet a little NFL news and just the idea
that the Pittsburgh Steelers making some move. Dealless that's right
and break it down for us.

Speaker 4 (01:58):
That's right. The Pittsburgh Steelers made another move.

Speaker 5 (02:01):
This has been the off season of activity for Pittsburgh,
which is rare for them. Earlier on Monday, before NBA
Free agency kicked off, all the fireworks came out of
the NFL because the Pittsburgh Steelers executed a trade with
the Miami Dolphins that saw them send all Pro safety
Minka Fitzpatrick and a future draft pick to the Miami

(02:21):
Dolphins for all Pro corner Jalen Ramsey and do Everything
tight end John new Smith. The move reunites John new
Smith with their offensive coordinator ars Arthur Smith, and more importantly,
it helps bolster at defense, which was already the highest
paid in football, but now they add the All Pro
Jalen Ramsey. Appears that Pittsburgh is going all in around

(02:43):
Aaron Rodgers in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 3 (02:47):
You want to go first, you go ahead. I'm all
in for this. Pittsburgh hasn't won a playoff game since
twenty sixteen. We're going on ten years.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
That's crazy.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
Okay, just forget about getting to they haven't won a
playoff game out organization, the heat is on, I think
for the fan base, uh for Mike Tomlin, front office
ownership people are like, okay, and I'm cool with this
because the only reason you would go get an Aaron
Rodgers is you have to be all in. You're not

(03:16):
rebuilding one foot in, one foot out. That makes no sense.
So you put something together and you hope that you
can have a team that could possibly win a p
I'm not saying they're gonna win a championship or whatever,
but I do like, if I'm a Steelers fan, I'm
tired of the idea of finishing over five hundred. That
didn't mean anything to me. I never that whole streak

(03:38):
with Mike Tomin that doesn't do anything for me. Early
in his career when he won a Super Bowl like
that was good. This And then when they went to
the Super Bowl against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers and
they lost, you know what I mean, Like, Okay, they
won one, they went to another one like those were
the Pittsburgh days. You don't have to win all the time.

(04:00):
No one's gonna win all the time. But now you're
talking about twenty sixteen. I mean, my god, how long ago.
That's when I moved to la I mean, I've been
here forever. Now see his great hair. I didn't have
any of this in my goatee when I showed up
here ten almost ten years ago.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
So that's a long time.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
And it just makes sense to me to be all
in because after this, if you want to replace the coach, rebuild,
you know what I mean, tear it down or whatever,
or you think, hey, we made a run, all people
care about is all you in the mix. And can

(04:39):
I get to the dance and have a chance to win?
Like anything can happen. Guys could be injured, you get
somebody could throw a bad pic. Like there's so many
things that could happen to you that you could take
a look at the team that's supposed to beat you,
the Detroit Lions or the number one seed. They're nine
and a half point favorites. They're at home, and guess

(04:59):
what quarterback what's to bend those three interceptions in a
fumble right? And all of a sudden, the Commanders are
on their way and not the Lions.

Speaker 4 (05:08):
Like that's what can happen. So I'm cool with this.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
If Pittsburgh gets gonna go out of their way to
bring in Aaron Rodgers, they need to do these steps,
put the best people around, make some moves. You can't
go with what you had last year, you know what
I mean, and just say, well, the only difference is
we're just gonna change the quarterback.

Speaker 6 (05:28):
They've made moves, and for once, I'm cool with it.
I'm actually not mad at making moves. I just don't
like who they made the moves for as much as
as maybe you do or some other people. I feel
like it's a reshuffling of the deck. I feel like
it's you know you, if you got it. Rob g
always has a nice haircut he gives himself, and he
got the part on his left side. It will be

(05:50):
like getting the same haircut, but they're putting a part
on the right side and be like, yo, I did
something different.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
To me, it's the.

Speaker 6 (05:55):
Same car, different paint, same girlfriend, just got a different name.
She looked the same act the same, just got it
for name. And that's my thing, Rob I actually and
with the all in. To me, some examples would be
when the Bucks were all in, when they got Tom Brady,
they brought back Grunk, they got Uh, they got a
b and that team to me, was already Taylor made
Tom and a couple of other pieces, was ready to

(06:17):
do something, especially in a bad division as they were
in back then the Rams when they were like, man,
we just need a von Miller, we need an Odell
Beckham junior, We need a Jalen Ramsey as the Steelers
just got a younger Jalen Ramsey. So to me those
things made difference. Is when you had the quarterback who
was still willing and Dylan and you say, a couple

(06:37):
of piece here, one piece there, we should be good
to go. I don't think Aaron Rodgers, and again I
don't think he's gonna be bad. Let me be very clear,
but I don't think he gets you over the hump,
and I was looking at Crunch.

Speaker 4 (06:47):
I disagree with you when you.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
Talk about the hump. They won ten games with two quarterbacks.
They weren't happy with like.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
That, like that.

Speaker 6 (06:54):
So I'm glad you and I get what you're saying.
But my thing rob to that is Aaron Rodgers is
another year older, right, and that's just anybody we just
got up here to talking about the lebron last hour.
He's another year older, with a new offense, a new system,
and a team where he's already saying, yeah, this might
be my last. I guess this will probably be my last.

(07:15):
To me, what it will take for them to win,
you need to have had something a massive shift and
if you look at me, to win a playoff game,
but they can't.

Speaker 4 (07:24):
That is embarrassing right now.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
It's not because you can't win a super Bowl when
you haven't won a playoff game, but you got to
first win a playoff game.

Speaker 6 (07:32):
But what I'm saying is I'd rather just win a
playoff game with my new guy, who is we're building
towards something, meaning okay, just winning the wild card game
with Aaron Rodgers and then you lose in the next
round and he's gone next year. It was like, what
was the point, Like, Okay, we won one wild card game.
To me, I would rather build. I'd rather have my

(07:52):
Jaden Daniels, you know, my young guy Michael Pennick junior
bow Knicks and we got there.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
Now we won. Okay, now we're trying to keep moving.
Maybe you don't, but maybe with that new guy, just
like Pennix. They the Falcons had a chance to go
to the playoffs. They put them in and they actually
didn't make the playoffs because they put a rookie quarterback.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
Because they're trying to build it.

Speaker 6 (08:12):
If the Falcons, man, you're excited about because you're excited
about what's the come. They saw Kirk Cousin throw more
interceptions than anything. But it's still about trying to get
into the play I'm saying it building towards something. I
think as a as a fan, have that quarterback. They
don't have that guy in place, and they didn't. They
were talking about this, and that's because they didn't want

(08:33):
to run.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
No, they didn't believe. No, they didn't believe that bros
got no, hear me out. They didn't believe that those
quarterbacks are that. They think there's a better quarterback uh
class next year.

Speaker 6 (08:44):
But if they're trying to win the playoff game, they
ain't gonna get him. Well, but you don't. That's what
I'm saying, Belding, you either suck. You look, you either suck.
Be building towards something where you this. They suck like
you think they ought and they could get their quarterback
and they're going to suck. That's the problem. Said, you
got eight to nine.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
I want to to be I think right here and
I want to do this today. I think this will
be your worst football take of all season. I've already
put it out there. You got them for eight wins.
I want to put a bet on that that you got.

Speaker 4 (09:17):
Wait to see what TJ.

Speaker 6 (09:18):
Why I got. That's a massive part of it. That's
the but you're telling me now that they're eight guys.
I'm gonna tell you why because if it's the only
move and I was gonna get to this, sir. The
only reason I bring that up is because if TJ.
White was telling Robby this, he's the one to me
that Obviously he's great, he's great, we know that. But
if they get a haul for him right now, you
all of a sudden you get another receiver, you get

(09:39):
a back, like if they get a Hall for TJ. Watt,
then we're having a different conversation. So I have to
say that's a massive part because now you might be
bringing in some very good pieces similar to what I mentioned.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
But I said, the team is not good even where
they are now.

Speaker 6 (09:52):
I'm saying, if you bring in how many people, yeah,
he's not good. So I'm saying if you get a
top receiver, say you get a number one or a
time said Aaron Rodgers is not right because I'm saying,
rob you need everything when you're not that great anymore,
you need everything around you. If this were Aaron Rodgers
six years ago, he good to go because he's that

(10:14):
Roger that.

Speaker 4 (10:14):
Six years ago.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
Patrick Mahomes won fifteen games with the same stats.

Speaker 4 (10:18):
He's not Patrick mahone.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
He won fifteen game with the six a great defense,
were lucky, and a lot of things went the three games,
a lot of they had a great, great defense.

Speaker 4 (10:30):
And then he went after and he made the I'm
glad you and then.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
And then they were able to get to the super
Bowl somehow, even though they weren't really good.

Speaker 6 (10:37):
Here's that they were really good. They just they definitely,
I'll give you a handful of games he was a
miskick or their kick hit the thing went in. But
the other part was that the officials they knew how
to win. And that's the difference of where Aaron Rodgers at.
It's not that he's gonna have horrible games every game.
It's that when it comes to making the play. If

(10:57):
if it's tied game and it's third and eight, he
might throw for six. Then they got a punt. And
where the difference is now At this point, Patrick Mahomes
can run for that third eight and they end up
winning the game by field goal. Wasn't a great game.
He didn't play his best. He made three to four
plays a game that won the game. I don't believe
Aaron Rodgers can do that for the bulk of a season.
That's the difference right there. And if you look at
their numbers total offense, they were twenty second passing offense,

(11:21):
they were twenty seventh rushing.

Speaker 4 (11:22):
They were eleventh that got rid of Nazi hears, hold on.

Speaker 6 (11:25):
To this where I'm going with this, rob They did
all that with Russell Wilson, who was essentially was slightly.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
Russell Wilson will that they had two quarterbacks last year.

Speaker 6 (11:35):
You got no, I'm saying they were slightly better. Russell
Wilson was slightly better than Aaron Rodgers. Just I'm talking
hair on both tarchin jins. And so to me, if
I got thesentially same guy and one is five six
years younger, and if that's kind of how we're running
it back, why not running back with that guy instead
of the guy who's another year older and who's still

(11:57):
coming off that achilles injury from a year ago. Forgo
whatever it wants over. I mean to me, I'm just
I don't get that part of it. And they're all
in and I just see a bunch of swaps, okay,
Meeka Fitzpatrick, Jayalen Ramsey, maybe a slight hair to Jalen
at this point, Jalen ain't Jalen when he.

Speaker 4 (12:11):
Went to the Rams. At this point, you get George.

Speaker 6 (12:13):
George Pickens is really good, but little hot head, little crazy,
I'll give you that.

Speaker 4 (12:18):
So you go and leave him and get DJ me
Dk Metcalf.

Speaker 6 (12:21):
It's not as if you had pickings on the outside
and DK Metcalf then I'm like, oh.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
Yeah, but they thought that they got pickings because of
some issue.

Speaker 6 (12:29):
Right, But I'm saying you didn't. So now I only
got a guy. Though, you get what I'm saying. It's
not like you have a DJ Metcalf. You said he's
just a guy. No, I'm saying. I'm saying a singular guy,
mean I have one, just like you're not adding everything
you're doing.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
I think the idea you're talking about eight games, I
think your way off. I think whether they make whether
TJ the Ravens, that's loss.

Speaker 4 (12:53):
I'll split you with the with the Browns, split it
with him.

Speaker 6 (12:56):
They might beat win both games with the MIC, I
ain't for I'll splitch it for sure.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
With the Mangles, they ain't being the Mangles. They mean
the Mangles both.

Speaker 6 (13:03):
And so to me, they just did a bunch of
swapping out George Biken one they won more.

Speaker 4 (13:08):
They four and one with a quarterback who can't throw.
Last year to.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
Start the season, they all went down here after that, No,
it didn't they they won five in a row.

Speaker 4 (13:16):
How many they went after that rock five and after
that ruck?

Speaker 3 (13:19):
I said they went down many they went after that
they sixth trade. They knew what they were doing and
that the idea that the quarterback that they had wasn't
a guy that they wanted, that's why they didn't keep them.

Speaker 6 (13:29):
I don't agree with it. I'm agreeing with you, I
don't agree. I agree that that's what they chose because
clearly that's what they did. I don't agree with that.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
They watched them in practice and all the other reasons.
He's way younger, he's got an upside, all folly and
all listening.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
How long you've been covering this league?

Speaker 6 (13:47):
Since nineteen eighty six NFL, I thought a NFL was
eighty six, no Baseball SOA and NFL eighty seven, So
since nineteen eighty seven? You telling me teams ain't made
a mistake. Sure they have, but that's all I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
I agree, we want to win the quarterback like that,
it was drafted high. Who's been on his four team
in three and four years? Everybody's wrong, everybody's I just
feel like I want to everybody's you tell me about
a quarterback has been traded that much or not wanted
on his fourth was Bears, Steelers and that and the Jets,

(14:22):
And that's all in how many years?

Speaker 4 (14:24):
That's in four years?

Speaker 7 (14:25):
No?

Speaker 8 (14:25):
Three?

Speaker 4 (14:26):
Are you about the trade the last three years he's
been on three teams.

Speaker 6 (14:28):
Yep, and I just but to me, they're just doing
the same It's just a it's the same haircut part
on the other side, it's the same car, different paint.

Speaker 4 (14:35):
To me, they just swapped out guys. Eight seven seven
ninety nine on Fox.

Speaker 3 (14:39):
Are you a fan of what the Steelers are doing
going all in around our Aaron Rodgers or do you feel.

Speaker 4 (14:48):
Like they're just refreshing? Rob J I can't even see this.

Speaker 3 (14:51):
Are reshuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox? They're going down. Will continue
to com station next with you. It's the Odd Couple,
Fox Sports rad I want you to I want a
big bet with you on the TJ WAT. I gotta
make sure that Rob you remember we need a big
bet on this. The Steelers are the one that I'm

(15:13):
going to bet big on two pair of jewel.

Speaker 4 (15:16):
Then go big on the line too. We could go
big on the lumber Wins. Gotta buy Jordans for everybody
on the show. All right, that sounds good.

Speaker 2 (15:23):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Rob Parker and Kelvin Washington weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 4 (15:34):
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 6 (15:36):
Huh he is a Magic city Money with the Eye couple,
Rob Parker kelvin Washington to ride back in the building
after a nice vake.

Speaker 4 (15:42):
Is good to have our guy back.

Speaker 6 (15:43):
Hey, achy knees, stiff, back joints not cooperating.

Speaker 4 (15:46):
Is any of that you Rob? From the trip? Do
you have any of these ailments? No?

Speaker 3 (15:51):
No, no, I actually felt good on this trip and
all these different beds I was.

Speaker 4 (15:54):
In, I fol actually good.

Speaker 3 (15:56):
You know.

Speaker 6 (15:59):
It's not trying to hear that what you mean? Some
days your body's just like nah. And those days, luckily,
thankfully there is a lead. With just one pill of
the lead provides up to twelve hours of pain relief,
so you can keep moving, use as directed. You can
go ballpark to ballpark, or bed for bed like Rob
Parker all right, eight seven seven ninety nine one Foxes

(16:19):
Steelers reshuffling the deck, same old, same as what I say.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
Rob said, he's all and he loves it. What do
you say?

Speaker 3 (16:25):
A seven seven ninety nine on Fox Who we got
Caleb in Missouri. You're in the odd couple of Fox sportsuradio.

Speaker 4 (16:30):
What's up? Caleb?

Speaker 9 (16:31):
Hey, guys, how's it going good?

Speaker 2 (16:34):
Good?

Speaker 8 (16:35):
Hey?

Speaker 7 (16:35):
I don't call very often. Maybe once a year something
will catch my ear and I just had time today.
Mister Washington, you said that you're gonna give the Chiefs
a handfull of games, right?

Speaker 4 (16:44):
M hm uh?

Speaker 9 (16:46):
They had a one.

Speaker 7 (16:47):
Possession yes, here the Jets had ten one possession games
last year and the Steelers actually at nine one possession
games last year. So just this determination that you've landed
wait wait wait wait wait.

Speaker 6 (16:59):
Can going though? What was the Kansas City Chiefs record
in those right?

Speaker 4 (17:04):
Okay? So they clearly know how to win close games.
They've been a million very lucky left that lot. I
can see.

Speaker 6 (17:10):
I just can see that you and Caleb, I gave
you a few that a kick win few rest.

Speaker 4 (17:14):
They know how to win. You left to start out, Caleb, Caleb,
you know you're right.

Speaker 7 (17:21):
I thought I was going to get to finish my point, Caleb,
So real quick, Okay, if you're coming to this determination
that the Steelers are clearly a sub five hundred team, right,
what what are where are we at on the Chiefs?
Are the Chiefs coming back to be a thirteen win
team based on what they did last year, because they

(17:42):
win these club games.

Speaker 4 (17:43):
Eleven, twelve and up.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
Yes, okay, I want to bet on that Holmes retired.

Speaker 4 (17:49):
No, take his money. I'm doing it again. You know that, Caleb,
thank you? Hey g o'o. So all of a sudden,
the chiefs, oh, yeah, I could see them winning ten
games this year. So it's ten. They're ten and seven. Yeah, Like,
do you think they're going to the super Bowl again? I'm
asking you, No, I don't. I think they're I don't.

Speaker 3 (18:11):
I think there's a chance that they that Patrick Mahomes
and that team never goes back to the super Bowl.
That's how convinced I am. As time goes on, I'm
just saying, when you look at the AFC and the
other that's what I'm saying. I think I'm saying, I
think this is Lamar Jackson Jerared. But do I think
they win eleven and up, twelve and up?

Speaker 4 (18:27):
Yeah? They do? Andy got his receivers back.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
Eric in Austin, Texas, you're in they couple of Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (18:35):
What's up? Eric?

Speaker 2 (18:36):
What's up?

Speaker 4 (18:37):
Kelvin?

Speaker 8 (18:37):
How you guys doing what?

Speaker 7 (18:38):
I mean?

Speaker 4 (18:38):
Good?

Speaker 8 (18:39):
How are you I'm good, man, I'm good. So here's
the here's the problem. But now you're a problem because
I see we are both are coming from Kelvin. I
get would you say, because if you're biking on Aaron
Rodgers from one year, you don't have your guy. But
like you said, he didn't watching a holdout and we
just saw today. I'm kind of I was kind of
shot that they traded Minka. So if they're willing the
part with Minka, they might be willing the par TJ.

(19:00):
And if you can part with TJ, you can get
a couple first out draft his back. You're also right
they don't have a number two wide receiver. They need
a number two receiver, desc believe. And I also questioned
the move of traded for another tight end because they
already had two cable tight ends and Pat Bryant move
and Darne at Washington. So I'm assuming at this point
Steels are all in on trying to make moves.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
To win now.

Speaker 8 (19:18):
But I'm with Rob, I think the Steers will be
way better than you think, Kelly. Aaron Aaron Rodgers is
still Aaron Roddings, Like yeah.

Speaker 4 (19:25):
For three years, No, you're not.

Speaker 8 (19:27):
You just have Kelviyvin. Look, if you look at his
numbers on the Jet, kar Rodbers still put up numbers
on the Jets given despite everything.

Speaker 6 (19:36):
Yes, and I'm glad, I'm glad you mentioned that. You
know what those were. They're called pointless points. He gets
twenty points but can't win the game. And that's the difference.
K you want to do the end of the games?
I want rob g. I want us to figure this out.

Speaker 4 (19:51):
Go ahead.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
How many of those games did the opponent score against
the Jets to win the game at the end last year?

Speaker 4 (19:58):
I bet you it's about four? Why fo fourth? Yes,
go wi fo.

Speaker 6 (20:03):
Pat Mahomes teams always seen to find a way to
get it done. I told you, because they got the
Aaron Rodgers when it comes to comeback, especially the good,
good teams. Even when he was a packer, he struggles
to beat good teams when he if he's down five
or six or seven, he can't win those. Patrick mahonmes
with a whole that find it, because I used to
be my favorite. Find that when he's a five hundred

(20:24):
or above team and he's down.

Speaker 4 (20:26):
I watched him.

Speaker 3 (20:26):
I watched him beat the San Francisco forty nine ers
on a Monday night with thirty two seconds to go?
Did you watch that game or I saw him throwing
hell married to beat the Lions at the end of
the year.

Speaker 4 (20:35):
That weren't a good Lions team. Oh really? Yes?

Speaker 6 (20:37):
The five status against good teams five hundred or more
and I'll get the ne exact number. It actually gonna
be bothered. I didn't believe it. I was like, yeah, right,
Aaron Rodgers be coming back goal in Portland. We got
time to squeeze him and Michael Michael and Portland. You're
on the couple of Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (20:51):
Rob, How are you? What's up?

Speaker 9 (20:54):
Oh? I'm I'm wander fall sweat and sweating hard out here.
It's hot in Oregon today.

Speaker 8 (20:59):
I got a bone.

Speaker 9 (21:00):
I got a bone to pick with you, Rob. Yes,
you always are seeing Aaron through a little bit of
rose colored glasses.

Speaker 8 (21:08):
I think a little bit.

Speaker 9 (21:10):
I'm going to tell you it's about the playoffs, you know,
regardless if they're ten and seven, if they're nine, you know,
nine and eight or even eleven and six, and have
a great season again in the playoffs. Aaron Rodgers is
an all time underachiever in the playoffs. This guy, I
mean the last game he won thirteen to ten against

(21:30):
the Niners and then just lost it at home in Lambeau.
The next year, Jordan Love comes in. They just molly
wopped the Cowboys on the road right and over achieve.
Aaron Rodgers is a great quarterback, but he's old, and
I just don't see how many.

Speaker 4 (21:46):
How many, how many?

Speaker 9 (21:48):
How's he getting those start?

Speaker 3 (21:49):
Michael, Let me ask you to That's what I said, Michael, Michael,
answer me this question.

Speaker 4 (21:53):
One question.

Speaker 3 (21:55):
How many games playoff games did Aaron Rodgers play? What
a packer where the defense gave up forty or more points?

Speaker 4 (22:02):
Do you know? Do you? I'm asking no, no, no, no, no,
I'm asking you.

Speaker 9 (22:08):
Yes, you can tell me.

Speaker 4 (22:09):
At least six.

Speaker 3 (22:10):
Times he lost the game where the defense gave up
forty points. No, no, no, And it ain't forty points
off of three turnover, three one interceptions when they ran
it back. He had one of the worst defenses Tom
Brady in his whole career. Everytime the defense gave up
one forty points one time, one time. That's it, all right,

(22:33):
Just remember this day.

Speaker 6 (22:34):
We will just remember this day that you the defense
wasn't because when they.

Speaker 4 (22:39):
Locked seven starters out It didn't matter. It didn't matter.

Speaker 3 (22:45):
Lost that game, Jared Golf had you had to do
with the defense. They were nine and a half point
favorites at home with the injuries. The injuries didn't happen
due the game. Injury didn't because no, that wasn't why.

Speaker 4 (22:59):
They literally he looked like the greatest quarterback to walk play.

Speaker 6 (23:03):
Golf had three interceptions in a farm ad waiting on
not stop, Antonio.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
Nobody gonna win no playoff game in your quarterback has
four turns.

Speaker 6 (23:10):
Aaron Rodgers can do no wrong to you. No, I'm
just wineralistic. I'm just honest. We'll argue with you later,
Antonio Daniels. On the other side. NBA Champ Series ex
M NBA Radio right now, Steven Saga.

Speaker 2 (23:22):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Rob Parker and Kelvin Washington weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 6 (23:34):
Steve, Thank you so much, Hot Couple, Rob Parker Kelvin
Washington on a Magic City Monday. Rob is back. You
can tell because we're going at it. Put my glove.
I kept my gloves right here from when you come
back all I missed. I miss boxing with you. Man,
I'll tell you that the streets. The streets were like, man,
we're rob at, So y'all get back to scars scrapping.

Speaker 4 (23:54):
That's how we do it.

Speaker 6 (23:55):
Yeah, real quick, uh w NBA expanding. You were in
Detroit just like I was back in the It was
the early two thousands through the you know, mid two
thousands when the Detroit Shock were there. And I knew
when I read this story that the Pistons might be
getting the team back in the two thousand. I think
it's twenty nine year and I was like, man, you

(24:16):
know who's gonna be beyond excited? Rob Parker, the Shock
or Bags. They're gonna invite you back to Detroit, Honorrary,
You're gonna be all day Roger. They do you know,
do the first pitch in MLB?

Speaker 4 (24:27):
What are they doing to w me?

Speaker 6 (24:28):
It's not like a first tip you get you get
to throw the ball in the air, you get the
first half court shot or something. You're coming back for
the return of the Detroit shot because it's gonna be lit.

Speaker 3 (24:38):
I'm just it's gonna be lit. The WNB what Detroit shot?
Two times you couldn't sell chickens back in those days.

Speaker 4 (24:46):
And I just swing cast.

Speaker 3 (24:47):
I'm just ready to swing on right Cheryl fo Karl
Malone's daughter, about to swing on you.

Speaker 4 (24:52):
I don't. I'm just I'm shocked.

Speaker 3 (24:53):
Like these three teams what in the next five years
or something like that. Yep, it just seemed like those
are in Cleveland, they couldn't even sell a team either.
Nobody wanted it. Detroit they had to move. I was told,
you know, from some playoffs guard what like, those two
cities already failed at the WN.

Speaker 6 (25:11):
But the shock were weird just because they had when
winning and they were like determined.

Speaker 4 (25:14):
They couldn't sell tickets though.

Speaker 6 (25:16):
Also you know, they were in the biggest uh arena
in the NBA, the Palace Auburn Hills was but still
they was twenty something thousands, but they still couldn't sell tickets.

Speaker 3 (25:28):
And even people showed up for the championship, like because
people just want to be around a winner and have
some fun. But they weren't actually selling tickets. And that's
it'll be interesting. Want to we want to bring back
all those sports? It would have been no, I'm not
going to me. It would have been just nice to
form up the league that you have. But I get it.
You just got an expansion team in San Francisco and

(25:50):
not just seemed like they didn't They didn't turn a
profit this past year.

Speaker 4 (25:54):
They still lost a lot of money.

Speaker 6 (25:55):
Rob, businesses. You know, this is a business owner. Sometimes
it takes time to finally start making busy. How many
business you know?

Speaker 4 (26:02):
I many years of wnbad? Did it start three years ago?
Thirty years?

Speaker 3 (26:06):
I couldn't hear just that. Yeah, okay, what you say?
Did it start three years ago? And thirty years? You know?

Speaker 6 (26:11):
Sometimes hey, listen, you know what they say that thirty
seventh year, that's the year, Rob, that's when you turn it.

Speaker 4 (26:18):
Just jumping here real quick. I know we're gonna wait
on it.

Speaker 3 (26:20):
Antonio Daniels, that's what he's working. Man in show business,
I mean the w NBA. We saw this when Caitlyn
wasn't playing and everything.

Speaker 4 (26:30):
Went back to normal.

Speaker 3 (26:31):
And there are a lot of teams why it can't be
a new normal, Rob everything. There are a lot of
teams that still sell six thousand tickets. I'm not dude,
I'm not saying they gotta sell out every night. Three
expansion teams. I was just shocked by that. That's just
the big bet on Kaitlyn Clerk.

Speaker 4 (26:46):
I mean she well, I.

Speaker 6 (26:46):
Would argue and a handful of like you know, Juju's
come in pre dominantly.

Speaker 5 (26:50):
It's on one person, like she has moved the needle
in a way that what maybe Tiger Woods is probably
the closest comparison where it's like that singular person can
elevate these I.

Speaker 4 (27:01):
Would and those who are great, and I would just
add probably Serena to them.

Speaker 6 (27:04):
Yeah, maybe Serena gig where it's just like you have
to stop, hold on, this is big you're talking about.

Speaker 5 (27:08):
Yeah, And and there have been reports in the Athletic
that said that her value to the league is like
a billion dollars.

Speaker 4 (27:17):
I don't think that's right.

Speaker 5 (27:18):
And and if that's the case, then why not strike
while the iron is hot and add these expansion teams? Well,
because new marketing money and new commercial money and.

Speaker 4 (27:25):
New especially areas like San Francisco.

Speaker 3 (27:27):
But that's that's nice, like that, like it sounds great
until you actually you know, like like have to do
the business of it, Like you're right, oh, just take
the money from the own new ownership or whatever. But
now you're going to these places when she's not there,
they're four thousand people in the house. I'm just saying,
like they can take the league to where it was

(27:50):
and try to prop it up to continue to build
on it, rather than just trying to run with it
the other way.

Speaker 8 (27:55):
I do.

Speaker 6 (27:56):
I do think there's an element where they do both,
where we know absolutely like a sellout for us is
only eight thousand, so like, let's not make it the
you know, fifteen thousand in the.

Speaker 4 (28:09):
Numbers when she was injured held up you know what?

Speaker 3 (28:11):
And I don't mean exactly like didn't bottom out that
maybe I would feel a little bit better.

Speaker 4 (28:17):
But what the game did almost two million? That was
the game that wow. At the beginning of her injury,
they thought she was still now the w NBA. As
soon as they realized she wasn't playing, they.

Speaker 6 (28:32):
Went home halftime, they went off the cliff stop it.

Speaker 4 (28:36):
So I do.

Speaker 6 (28:37):
And I also think Robbie, to add to this, I
know you put a lover, how many games have you
gone to zero?

Speaker 4 (28:44):
All right?

Speaker 5 (28:44):
How many games that illustrative of whether or not I'm
just asking you, like, because I would rather watch a
game on TV than go to the arena. Ron play
in person and he's been in the league just twenty
eight years.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
I just know a lot. I talk to people. Nobody,
I don't know anybody will goes to the game, but
they but they talk about it and they watch Rob G.
I'm a sports person. I don't know anybody.

Speaker 6 (29:09):
People watch people. I'm not saying the WNBA's NFL. Come
on now, that's ridiculous. I didn't say that, but what I know, No, no, no,
I'm just saying so we know it's never gonna be that.
But honestly, dude, the last two to three years, even
starting in college basketball, like three years ago, this is
the dude with South Carolina with obviously U Khan, with
Andrew Rees and that LSU team and then Caitlyn Clarker.
We've been talking more women's college basketball for the last

(29:31):
four or five years into the w NBA.

Speaker 4 (29:34):
It's been shocking. And I'm telling you, Juju is coming.
Page is there.

Speaker 6 (29:38):
They got a couple other players coming, and I just
think Rob that's why Rob park G. That's why I think, yes,
Kaitlyn is the snake, the head of the snake, but
I think they see what's coming, like Juju is gonna
be a phenomenon as well.

Speaker 5 (29:51):
And I think that they're banking on her being able
to bring so many eyeballs so that once they're there,
they see, oh man, Paige Beckers is incredible. Oh Juju's
watch might be me the best player I've ever seen.
Kind of a thing.

Speaker 4 (30:02):
And so they've they've had great players. I mean, none
of them have capt imagine.

Speaker 3 (30:08):
There's only one Caitlyn, I agree, but the other ones
you're talking about that right, But she's not gonna be Kaitlyn.

Speaker 4 (30:15):
She's not gonna be can give you that. But but
I don't have to everybody don't have to be Tiger.

Speaker 3 (30:18):
But what I'm saying to you is that there were
Sheryl Swoops, and I know that there have been great
women's basketball players, So don't act like there's never been
any into w n B A and now all of
a sudden, this is the new one. Here's what I say,
Kaitlyn Clark, which is put this on a different That's
all I'm setting.

Speaker 6 (30:35):
If I'm the NBA and I gave you your magic
and your bird, and now you would say, oh never,
we ain't never gonna see nothing like this magic bird.

Speaker 4 (30:42):
And then Michael Jordan comes in.

Speaker 6 (30:45):
Like there can be where all eyeballs are on, like
oh shoot, this is a real thing, and then you
and so meaning Juju can come in and be right
there where like, yes, Caitlyn put the eyes here in
the mark really high. But then Juju and Paige and
a couple other young players gonna be bigger.

Speaker 4 (31:01):
Than Kaitlyn Clark. I'm just asking you, I don't.

Speaker 6 (31:04):
Think she'll be the phenomenal the way she's gonna be
bigger than Kaitlyn Clark. I know, because I think Caitlyn's
like the ceiling was so high, but when you played
at USC, the numbers weren't like as good as just
telling everybody was at them games. I'm talking about the
TV numbers that Caitlyn put up for the national championship
on national television.

Speaker 3 (31:24):
I'm saying she was a different animal. And I'm not
saying that Juju is not a great women's player Kaitlyn.
It was people got caught up on her because you
didn't play like a typical women basketball player.

Speaker 4 (31:37):
That's that's that was the No, that's a fact. What
I'm saying.

Speaker 6 (31:41):
All I'm saying, Rob g and I are saying is
now that the eyes are there. The retention of some
will be greater than normal. Meaning if you just had
Caitlyn and then she became kind of normal, you just
used to her and you had nothing else to offer.
I agree that it's gonna drop, but I think the
goal is to have the attention so high in and
then you retain some of those eyes because you got

(32:02):
a Jews, you gotta page backers, you got Asia Will,
you got some other and then you uh, and then
you start to reel in and people stick.

Speaker 4 (32:08):
That's all I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (32:09):
I just think it's a phenomenon. Doesn't happen all the time.
I know what they're trying to do, and I get it,
you know what I mean, Like, I get it. But
I'm just telling you, when she's not around or heard
or whatever, those are the things that should scare you.

Speaker 6 (32:23):
So it's either loudest ec or crickets which aint meting between?

Speaker 4 (32:28):
Aint know between? All Right, we have the rockets making
some moves. What have they done?

Speaker 10 (32:34):
Next?

Speaker 6 (32:34):
We will tell you it is The Odd Couple, Rob Parker,
Kevin Washington, Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (32:38):

Speaker 11 (33:16):
Listen to The Fifth Hour with Ben Maller on the
iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.

Speaker 6 (33:22):
Ache knee, stiff, back joints not cooperating. Some days your
body is just like nope. You know on those days,
luckily there's a lead with just one pill. A lead
provides up to twelve hours of pay relief so you
can keep moving. And by the way, please use as directed.
So you weren't here rob you were on vacation. We

(33:42):
had of course some obviously co hosts were filling in
a couple of days, two days, and the conversation as
Kevin Durant comes to the Rockets and some other things.
We had some guests on Eddie House, Rasha Phillips. We
were talking about the Rockets and the move they made
with Katie and some other moves that they were making.
And I said, you know, I've been saying I thought
that was a great move them getting KD before he came.

(34:03):
Then he gets there, and now, man, they're winning the offseason,
or at least today, obviously there's still some time. You
get Kevin Durant, you keep Fred Van Vliet, You keep
Shangoon who is twenty and ten guy different and can
give you a different punch than Kevin Durant. Kenvin Durant's
mid retch range and three pointer and free throws where
Shangun is bruiser down there on the post.

Speaker 4 (34:24):
You need that kind of guy.

Speaker 6 (34:25):
Then they keep Jabari Parker, I mean Jabari Smith Junior,
who is a really nice.

Speaker 4 (34:31):
Streaming winning championship.

Speaker 6 (34:33):
What are going to I have them in the Western
Conference finals, you know, let me yeah, yeah, I said,
this is where I was going. Rishon Phillips, who I
didn't like because he's you know him.

Speaker 4 (34:41):
He's right.

Speaker 6 (34:41):
A lot of times he had the MAVs going to
the Western Coverage Finals thought I was crazy for the Rockets.
I'm like, dude, they kept the key players that matter,
including I'm and Thompson.

Speaker 4 (34:51):
And now you're at KD. And now what KD are
you getting?

Speaker 6 (34:55):
All I need is twenty three game shooting fifty forty ninety. No, no, no, no,
I got i'm in Thompson. I kept Jabari Smith Jr.
I got Shangun, I got frev Evliet. They got they
just got Finney Smith to be a role player. They
got Clint Capella, who can run the round. You know,
you didn't know, and I'm not mad. You know he's
still in the league.

Speaker 4 (35:15):
Of course I did. He was in Atlanta.

Speaker 3 (35:18):
Was down there with there you go, catching them out
three game No one, I didn't know because he was
in Atlanta.

Speaker 4 (35:25):
Mister matic City roll his grave right now. I did
not know.

Speaker 6 (35:28):
You adn't know that league. No, we got Limon Pepper
Wings and Clint Copella.

Speaker 4 (35:31):
Remember Clint Capella when he was what what what the
Rockets before? Yeah?

Speaker 6 (35:35):
He yeah, And now he's been in Atlanta the other
red team for quite some time. Uh, and now they
got Clint Compella. Dude, the Rockets ain't playing around. Kept
your coach. Nothing crazy happened there where you know, you
lost some stability. Yeah, he just got a new contract
to say he learned his lesson. You know he's good
now he locked in. So man, you I'm in I

(35:56):
like what the Rockets are doing. I think you know
how we're talking about Lebron This could be his last KD.
This is a great chance to get a RIND. I mean,
my goodness, this is this is the best chance since
you know, hardened Kyrie and on he you know, says
for COVID, maybe they get one if the COVID didn't
because you know, Kyrie wouldn't get the shot, and a
whole bunch of things happened in injuries. But this is
a really, really good team, this Rocket team. You talking

(36:17):
about a team that was second in the West and
then somehow find a way to get better.

Speaker 4 (36:22):
Kudos to them right now. I like what the Rockets
are doing.

Speaker 3 (36:24):
Yeah, I'm not there. I'm still not convinced that they're
going to be the team in the West. I don't
know what Kevin Durant, you know, injuries, I don't. I mean,
he gets hurt.

Speaker 6 (36:35):
But I'm talking about the rest of the team took
but without Kevin durant I mean, you think even without
Kevin Durantyre gonna go to the championship.

Speaker 4 (36:42):
No, they need him, but they got some nice pieces. No,
I mean goodness. Last year people.

Speaker 3 (36:48):
Looked at them and thought they were going to make
a run and they got knocked out.

Speaker 4 (36:51):
Right, A young team.

Speaker 3 (36:53):
I understand if you look at Kevin durant if he
can stay healthy, that's always a sixty five games. To me,
it was just weird how bad things turned out. And
Phoenix yeah, and Phoenix no.

Speaker 4 (37:04):
But all knew. I knew.

Speaker 3 (37:07):
Let me say that a lot of I promise you
I knew. I said what a lot of people will
agree with that. I want to go back. We could
go back when they put them together.

Speaker 6 (37:16):
Why though, that would be like me having you know,
k and yo kids, Like okay, that's great for scoring rebounds,
but like who's playing d or who's hitting threes or who?
Like you need some versatility. I only say that because
they're showing yokis and the moves that the Nuggets have made.
They made some nice moves to me and Robb Gi
was just talking about they got Bruce Brown back, who
was part of that championship team, even.

Speaker 3 (37:36):
After firing Michael Malone, Right.

Speaker 6 (37:38):
Yeah, and they I mean they got the game seven
and you know the with the thunder, you know you
win that you never know. But they made some nice
pieces like Bruce Brown coming back. What's gonna be fun again? Yeah,
Michael Porter Junior.

Speaker 3 (37:52):
I'm not just ready to nab to turn everything over
to the Rockets, even though they're making moves.

Speaker 4 (37:56):
And I get paper is different from.

Speaker 6 (37:58):
Actuary, but it's rare that you're a number two seed,
had a good season, won a bunch of games, and
you know, especially for how young they are, and this
is only e Mays at the time, the second year,
and for you then to turn around and get KD
and get some other nice pieces.

Speaker 4 (38:11):
The Rockets are rocketing right now.

Speaker 6 (38:12):
They taking off, and I like that might be my
fun team in the West next season.
